Tesla has the worst costumer service I have ever encountered. I had a leak in my attic due to the solar panels that were installed by Solar City now Tesla. After months of waiting, I was finally able to get the panels removed and had a new roof installed. As suspected all the contact points were showing signs of water damage along with the two active water leaks that initiated the complaint. Tesla was given pictures of the inside and outside along with statements from two different roofing companies stating that the leaks were caused by the solar panels. They at first stated they were partially at fault but know have rescinded any offer to cover damages.

Horrific customer service, not to mention the lack thereof becomes costly in the long run. As others have mentioned. Summer 2024 I noticed a huge jump in my true up (Nem-1 contract) with PG&E in July. The opposite should be happening in July! Turns out the system was offline. I checked the old solar city box and sure enough I had red lights. The Tesla App did not notify me, nor did Tesla repair dept. (They have told me that they monitor the system.) No, they do not. It is difficult to speak to a person when troubleshooting the system. They do not have a repair department that is large enough to accommodate onsite troubleshooting. We reported this problem in late July/early August 2024. The first available appointment for an assessment Oct. 25th!

The tech said the panels are in fact shorting out on the roof. He went on to tell me that this type of panel is notorious for this exact problem. (He was an installer for several years before switching to the diagnostic dept. several years prior.) At any rate he put in a request for new panels in October. Our next appt. For an actual repair does not arrive until early Feb 2025! Needless to say, our system has been on and offline for 7 months now! This is unacceptable and the only thing I can do is wait and pay both Tesla & PG&E. BUYER BEWARE!

Be very cautious if you plan to sign an existing lease, new lease or purchase solar panels from Tesla. Tesla has so many loopholes that they include within their contracts that if you have any issues at all the contracts are written to avoid any liability in many different ways. Not to mention they will unapologetically treat you like it’s your problem. Please read, I would hate for this to happen to any other hardworking American.

Summary: I had to have my solar panels removed due to water leaks in my roof. The water leaks were cause by the holes that were drilled in the incorrect spots when the solar panels were originally installed back in 2012 by a company Called Solar City. Shortly after the installation, Tesla took over the lease and Solar City went out of business.

I bought my home in 2021 and inherited the existing lease for the Solar Panels. Two years later I discovered there was water leakage due to the roof holes that were created by Solar City’s installation job in 2012. I immediately called Tesla, they said there was nothing they could do. So I got a roofer to replace my roof shingles and repair all of the damage caused, I also got my insurance company to take care of all of the water damage and paint damage inside of my home. Then I asked Tesla for a quote and I was emailed a price for how much it would be to take off and how much it would be to have them put back on after the roof was done.

It took me about a year to save up all of my money. But after I had what I thought was enough I set up a time and date with Tesla to have my solar panels removed. I then scheduled my roof replacement appointment with my local roofer. I paid Tesla the amount requested to take the panels off - $2,596.86. Then I paid my roofer over $11,000 for my roof replacement. Then when I went to set up the date and time to have them reinstalled when they told me that it was going to be $7,455.50. And that the original quote that was shared with me a year prior was not valid, which was only set for $ 2,442.77 to have the panels reinstalled.

In addition to this very stressful news, I was also told that although my roof was done that Tesla could not reinstall the solar panels right away and that I would have to wait 5 months to get them reinstalled. I was also told that I still have to pay my lease payment for the panels, which is $231.69 a month, although I have not been able to use them. Meanwhile my electricity bill is around $500 a month. I was told by Tesla that I could hire a third party to reinstall the panels but that the third party company would be held liable for any accidental damages and if they did happen to damage it then my warranty would be voided.

I was told that If I hired a third party that would not sign the reinstallation waiver then my warranty would be voided and I would still have to pay for the lease until it was concluded at the 20 year termination date - about 7 years from now.. I tried to find a third party company that could help me. No one was willing to take the risk after reading Tesla’s third party waiver agreement.

After sending in multiple complaints and not hearing much back, I received an offer from Tesla to give me a “25% discount” from the original price of $7,455.50. This would mean that I still have to pay $5,591.63 + the amount it will cost to get the panels cleaned + the amount it will take to repair the damages done to my grass while the panels have been sitting for the last 5 months (which Tesla also told me that cannot come out and move) + my lease payments and outstanding electric bills.

I am a single mother, a newly retired Air Force member of 25 years and a 100% disabled veteran. Although I believe in taking responsibility for my own expenses and responsibilities, I do not agree with how Tesla has conducted business with me and I do not recommend this company to anyone! It is very clear that Tesla doesn’t have to care about its customers or the quality or lack of customer care provided.

I cannot speak for the product itself. I went through the initial process of a phone consultation and an initial design. Was asked to sign off on the design with the understanding that an in person site review was necessary and would likely result in changes. I made it very clear to sales guy that I had to have a site inspection before we left on a 2 week vacation.

Within 5 minutes of confirming design I received an email appointment for two days after we already leave the country. I immediately expressed this to sales guy and he said he would work on getting it rescheduled. He came back with a date after we returned from our trip. They say it could take 4 months to complete after the site inspection of which means the install could happen while we have already packed up and left town for our summer home. Furthermore, the purpose of installing the solar was to heat our pool. We don't need pool heat in May in Arizona. This was all crystal clear with Conner (sales guy), before I signed off on initial design.

Now that they cannot fulfill the site inspection and installation in the timeframe that I expressed needed to happen, they are now keeping my initial deposit and closed my account. I am in utter shock that Elon Musk would be affiliated with a company that treats its customers like this. I even expressed that I still wanted to do the $78k project in the fall when we returned to AZ for the winter. So, for a minimal deposit they just lost a $78k job in the fall and we were down to two EV's - Tesla or Mercedes. Guess which one we are purchasing - IT IS NOT A TESLA. So, now they have lost almost $200k in business because they lied and could not fulfill their promises by stealing my deposit. Shocking business decision, but glad it happened now and nothing after I bought their solar and EV.

Tesla took over my solar energy account from Solar City, who I purchased my solar system from. My Tesla solar panels did not produce any energy for four months over last summer. I had to call them multiple times to get service out to fix my controls/inverter. They charged me differing amounts over four months while my panels did not work? It has been a nightmare to talk to someone in billing and they refuse to provide a credit or reimburse me for services they did not provide. We will have to litigate to get the $760 back from them. No wonder Musk is going to be the first Trillionaire. His company bills whatever they please without providing services.

This has to be the worst company I have ever dealt with. I paid a lot of money for this system. I have had it a little over 3 years. Close to 2 years of that it has not worked at all or half functional. My current issue took 3 months to come out to see what issue is and now 4 months for a crew to come out and fix it. Prior issue they didn’t wire correctly in an area known to have snow, had to pay another 2000 for them to rewire and this time wire so snow sliding off panels doesn’t pull the wires. This ordeal took 8 months to get fixed. Do not use this company. Unfortunately I'm at their mercy. All I can do is tell everyone to avoid this company like the plague

I’ve been a loyal Tesla customer for years—I’ve owned four Tesla vehicles, use Starlink, and even hold hundreds of thousands in Tesla stock. But the Tesla solar panel experience has been nothing short of a complete nightmare. Since the day I bought them, the panels haven’t worked. It takes months for anyone to come out and service them, leaving me stuck paying both the loan on the panels and my electricity bill. And every time I call, Tesla’s customer service couldn’t care less. They act like it’s not their problem. After waiting months, they finally came out just to say I needed a part they would cover. But again, months passed, and now they’re telling me the entire system is defective, not covered under warranty, and that I’m on the hook to pay out of pocket to fix it. This is a system I just purchased, and I’ve never even seen the promised benefits!

When I tried to escalate the issue, Tesla’s response was basically, “Tough luck, sue us if you want.” It’s insulting and infuriating that a company I once trusted treats its customers this way. The solar side of Tesla is an absolute scam. They do not stand by their product, their customer service is a disgrace, and the whole experience is a waste of time, money, and effort. If you’re considering Tesla solar, DON’T DO IT! Save yourself the frustration and go with a company that values its customers. This has been a massive letdown from a brand I once respected. Never again.

Very disappointed with Tesla solar customer service. They are very quick to schedule an appt to when you are ready to buy the solar system, but once you have an issue you can't speak with anyone and they don't fix the problem as fast. I had solar system installed and rain season came and I have a leak. Waited 3 months for them to come fix the issue, now it's raining again, still having leaks. Consider that when they initially came to check if it was their fault, they removed the solar panels, placed them in my garage without telling me I would have to wait 3 months. 3 months without producing energy, now I'm stuck paying 3k to PG&E. Frustrated is understatement, we still have a leak. Now, my carpet is also damage, ceiling fan. And I can't talk to anyone. They want to handle everything through the app and emails. Very unprofessional and inconsiderate.

I'll never use another Tesla product again in my life. I've used Tesla/Solar City solar panels on my home since late 2017. In mid-2024, my roof suffered extensive damage due to high winds and hail. So, I had Tesla remove my solar panels prior to the roof being repaired. It cost $1,640.00 to have Tesla remove my solar panels.

I was informed that the cost of $1,640.00 was the total cost to have the solar panels removed and replaced. But, after my solar panels had been removed, which was unavoidable, only then was I informed that it would cost me $4,160.00, out of pocket, to have the solar panels reinstalled on my roof. I find that to be deeply dishonest. It reminds me of what scam artists do. Paying customers should be informed, up front, as to all costs incurred in a transaction. Tesla did not inform me of the total cost until after my solar panels had been removed. Tesla lost a customer. For life.

By the way, since I had the solar panels installed, Solar City was bought out by Tesla, the customer service phone number ceased to exist, and all...ALL...communication with Tesla had to be done via an online chat through Tesla's website. That meant you had to be stuck at your desk, for upwards of half an hour, while the Tesla employee took minutes to respond to each inquiry I typed in. Now, even the website online chat is gone and a customer has to download a Tesla app onto his or her phone just to communicate with someone at the company, but still only via chat. People use solar panels to save money. Tesla apparently doesn’t agree.

There were clips and holes in the walls afterwards. The crew said someone would contact us to remove the clips and plug the holes. (That didn't happen). After many emails, and phone calls, a crew came out and left 44 holes in our shingles, many with the substrate exposed, if it rains, we'll have leaks!. (Today is May 8, 24) I have had solar panels for 10 years now. Previously they were owned by another company and Tesla bought them. We have not had any issues physically with the panels. They are monitored online and when an issue arises, they notify us and send someone out. BUT.... due to storm damage, our roof was damaged and needed to be replaced.

Contacting Tesla is ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE! I never got to speak to a human, I was referred to use their app (which is worthless), then when I got a Project Manager for the uninstall of the panels, she said it would be 3 to 4 MONTHS before they get removed! She said most of the hold up would be getting permits, well that was not going to happen! We called our twp office and let them know the request was coming and to let us know when Tesla got the permit. 3 days after applying they got it so we called the PM and told her to move up the date we were getting more storms and more damage every day we couldn't replace the roof.

We were then told to hire a 3rd party if we wanted it done faster but we would have to pay their price! We called around, the cost was astronomical. So we waited and got put on waitlist. Finally the panels were down and the roof was replaced the next day. The Tesla workers told us we would have to use the app to schedule the reinstall. OMG what a PIA!!! I go to do that and I get to a chat where they transfer me...over 2 hr wait! I email the PM...she is no longer available since the uninstall was her job, not the reinstall!!

I'm currently on a chat now with "someone" (45 minutes) to get scheduled for reinstall. "They" keep asking me questions that they should already have like the material used on the roof, etc. Now being told next available time would be sometime in JULY!!!! OF COURSE during the HOTTEST months when the AC will be running 24/7 I have NO solar panels to offset my electric bill!!!! They also are telling me I'm responsible for the impact this has on the performance of the power/panels! This is the 1st I'm hearing of this as it was NOT mentioned in the uninstall work contract. Reviewing my original contract from 10 years ago, which was never renewed under Tesla, they are out of contract. I'm probably calling a lawyer and just having the contract voided and they can come pick up their panels that are lying in my backyard!

My inverter is faulting and says external error. I have been trying to reach Tesla to fix it but can't speak to a live person. The web site tells be to call a number, and the number says to go to the web site. In the mean time I have no solar and no apparent avenue for a solution. I wish I hadn't bought from Tesla.

I had Tesla put solar panels on my home in July 2023. During the first year the panel were fully or partially not working for five months out of the year (May to September). After five repair appointments they returned to full output. After one of the appointments the roof began to leak, though Tesla says it is not their fault even though their workers spent a lot of time walking on the roof. The panel became operational in September. It is now April 2024 and they failed again about a month ago. I just waited over half the day for a service crew, to be notified they have cancelled. Tesla has made it impossible to talk to anyone. You can only "chat" on their app. This is the worst major purchase I've made for my home.

Cannot Recommend - solar panels installed into our roof caused a leak. Cannot get Tesla Solar back to remove the panels to have a new roof put on. Tesla staff won’t respond to phone calls or emails. I will have to file suit as well as complain to the state. Unprofessional and dishonest. Go with a company that has at least average customer service…. This company is flat out terrible!!

The Tesla team that installed our whole house solar system led by Brock did a fabulous job. They were very efficient and wrapped everything up in a timely manner. After the 1st install (we decided to get more panels), the electrician demonstrated the energy coming from the panels based on just being installed that day and it was later in the day and it was out producing our power need at that time. Looking forward to getting approval to turn the system on.

I reached out to Tesla after using their website to get a quote on my home. I decided to go with them for the price. After talking to a sales rep, they confirmed the price on the website. I was then contacted by a project rep - months later. They up-sold me on more panels, increasing the price (first of many). It took 3 more weeks to add the 2 panels he sold me on, except, he added 6, with a greater increase in cost. I requested he provide a design based on what we had already agreed on. He took 1 month to get back to me.

Although I was not happy, I had waited long enough, so I signed the purchase agreement. He then followed up and asked me to sign a new purchase agreement with $500 added for painted conduit. He explained I was not allowed to paint it myself. I refused to sign the new agreement because this was the 3rd occurrence of cost increase. Tesla canceled my order and has not refunded me my $100 deposit. It is impossible to get ahold of anyone at Tesla.

Tesla removed my solar panel in order for a new roof installation in August of 2023. They were to come out and reinstall my solar panels a month after the roof installation. However, that did not happened. Instead, I am getting the run-around. They scheduled several appointments to complete the job only to cancel the day before the scheduled appointment. Due to my binding contract I am paying for services that are not getting. I have made several calls to the company that took greater than 2-hours at a time. The last conversation I had with a representative she reassured me that they would not cancel my appointment that was scheduled for 02/16/2024.

Today, at 3 p.m. I received an email stating that my appointment was rescheduled yet again for 04/01/2024. I don't believe they have any intention of reinstalling my solar panels. I am forced to have to file a litigation against Tesla for them to complete the job. I would not advised anyone to use Tesla for solar energy. If knew what I know now. I would have went with any other competitor. They are stealing people hard earn money and boasting about the profits earned. I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE USE TESLA FOR SOLAR ENERGY. YOU ARE GOING TO REGRET IT.

I already own a Tesla Model Y and it was a pretty easy decision for me to go with Tesla Solar vs another company. Yes the price was better than the others, and all the specs were extremely comparable to other companies but for me it came down to 2 things. #1 Tesla isn't going out of business anytime soon. #2 I love that I can use 1 app and see everything for my car AND see everything for my house in REAL time, LIVE. (other companies you couldn't see the data in real time, you could only see it from the day before)

Just like purchasing my car, the process and paperwork is all done online, it's all added to my tesla account to see any paperwork, appointments etc. It's a very streamlined process. The initial inspection for my project plan with the drone was very thorough and all that info was added to my account. A truck arrived the day before the installation with 1 large pallet that included the panels and hardware that was needed for my project. I actually liked this process so that it was ready to go the morning of the install.

Install Day - Kevin ** (Crew Lead) and his team "HighRollers" (you gotta love that name since I live in Las Vegas) Lead Install on the roof was Randy accompanied by Tony and Greg. The team arrived on schedule, was professional, I think they went above and beyond with roping off the area with yellow tape (like police do) organizing the supplies, checking roof tiles for damage etc. They stayed on schedule throughout the morning, they never made a mess and anything that was lying around at the end was cleaned up and swept as well (driveway/sidewalk). Throughout the entire day they were professional, friendly, great attitude (didn't show up acting like they hate their job or anything like that). Kevin was fantastic at answering the few questions I had, and showing me the completed work at the end/doing a walkthrough.

Now I just have to wait for a final Tesla inspector and then NvEnergy to come and do their inspection and give me permission to power on the system. I really like that each process inspects the previous team to make sure nothing is missed. I also like that someone in an office at Tesla monitors my system in real time (just like a security company) for any errors/system outages and will notify me to have someone come out and fix the issue.

Everyone so far has EASILY earned a 5 star rating. So far up to this point I'm EXTREMELY happy with every step of this process from receiving a quote to completed installation. It's also rare to have a great team as well and not have anyone act lazy/untrained etc. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you to Kevin and his entire team and to the others that work behind the scenes in the office.

They still bill me and my local power company bill us 400+ every month. 2-3 month wait for parts and 1-2 month wait to schedule service. Rude customer service agents get loud and obnoxious. They live to argue and try to be condescending. Poor quality. Do Not Get A Tesla Solar System. The company should be shut down and the management should be put behind bars.

There must be organization, a leader, a sense of ownership/responsibility, or ethics. I assumed a lease when I purchased a home in 2020 that was in year 6 of the 20-year lease. Totally frustrating people to work with. Customer service is so disconnected that when they transfer you from one group to another, you must select your language again.

I called them several times, and they were pleasant over the phone but did nothing. I was in the process of getting a new roof. They canceled my uninstall appointment three times, and now I can't get an appointment to have them re-install. This company is the worst! I wish to withdraw this contract and never use it again.

I have had a solar roof for eight years. I see offers for solar roofs with free batteries. Although I have tried to find a way to speak to customer service rep to see if there are any updates or deals for previous installations. I can't find any way to contact people on their site. Don't expect anything after the installation happens.

Pros: When I bought my Tesla solar and batteries, in August 2021, they were the cheapest. The app works well and lots of control, and something that appeared to be unique to Tesla. Nice feature such as the virtual power plant. Thanks to the 2 batteries +21 solar I can actually function normally off grid forever as long as I limit my consumption to what my solar can produce + batteries.

Cons: This said, the installation and design process wasn't that smooth. Where they wanted to install the panels at first wasn't making too much sense, they favored east over south. but at least they listened to my input. It took 1 month to be done with the installation due to all kind of glitches, they would roughly come 1~2 days a week to work on the installation. My biggest issue is that the system is highly unstable and customers service seriously failed to address the problem. I'm an electrical engineer.

The power generation is glitching and I end up producing 10% and sometimes up to 30% less than expected. Sometimes it works fine for weeks and rarely for months, then it starts glitching and producing less during a perfectly sunny day. Soft or hard reset of the system usually works. The customer service has been trying to dismiss the problem, but even when I succeed to show them it's not a normal behavior (why would reseting your system that often be normal anyway), they fail to follow up. Also, during the storm last winter where I was out of grid power for 9 days, the system worked but needed a reset once or twice a day (the power from the batteries would suddenly go down).

It was taking just 2 min to get the power back, so just an annoyance but why so unstable? I had to help my neighbor as she didn't know what to do and Tesla wouldn't answer (they were probably overwhelmed because everyone was complaining). I also sent them a complaint about this issue which they never answered. Note that I own 2 Tesla cars and I'm very satisfied with the customer service and the cars. My first car bought in 2016 had a lot of software glitches but they were updating the software once or twice a month and within a year it became very stable and the car still work wonderfully since then (2023). Tesla Energy is a completely different experience from the stability and service standpoint. I rate the service and stability as poor.
