Nothing but excuses! Same problem over and over, 'convenience' ends up being a huge waste of time with me being out of meds for over a month...'prior authorization is required.' Ok fair enough, they send a form my doctor has to fill out and fax back, they refill after a 45-day delay. I go to refill again, and it's the SAME STORY... Never had this problem with CVS... They keep blaming my insurance plan and after speaking with Anthem, they tell me it's NOT... POOR management at Express Scripts! After my numerous phone calls to Express Scripts and chronic 'surveys' all with the lowest ratings, they don't do anything to rectify...my last call to them I cancelled ALL my medications through them and will have my doctor go back to refilling all through local CVS which also isn't great, but I can see now a HELL of a lot better than this crapola Express Scripts!

They took over 1 month to refill the medication, I paid for expedited shipping and they did not provide that and still charged me, both sons take exact same meds, my older son was out of meds. They let him be out of meds for over 2 weeks saying they didn’t have the medication in supply but turned around and filled my other son's prescription for exact same med and he wasn’t even out of medication, so how did you fill my other son's RX and not my oldest son's if it was out of supply, never again, they don’t communicate, my Dr appealed their substitute they provided for their meds and they refused to approve it even when they DR employed by Express Scripts agreed. Meds they substituted was not comparable, customer service is rude and hang up on you after waiting an hour several times, they don’t send any notices when there are changes to meds, do not use them!! You have been warned!

Accredo, which is a subsidiary of Express Scripts, has provided very poor service via their Customer Service Department. Express Scripts needs to get that staff TRAINED! Accredo staff reads so fast from their pre-written script I cannot understand them. They keep reading after you tell them to stop...STOP...STOP! The same questions are asked repeatedly...4 times I had to confirm my home address with the agent AFTER they had it written down and verbally repeated to me at the beginning of the conversation. It took 45 minutes to place my first order for 1 medication. All very frustrating. Obviously, Express Scripts has done a poor job training the people at Accredo. Probably to save money in the Express Scripts budget.

August 18, 2023 - About abuses, traps, and tricks from pharmacy Express-Scripts, a CIGNA company. Express-Scripts causes me more high blood pressure than anything else. Every new prescription is a nightmare to get approval for and to get it shipped. Typical trick: "there is a conflict with the way the doctor prescribed the medication." When the fabricated conflict is resolved, then "this medication is not approved." There are many other excuses by this pharmacy. I'm beginning to think that CIGNA, the parent company, reimburses a portion of the price of the medication if Express-Scripts succeeds in finding an excuse not to dispense the medication. Why else would a pharmacy refuse to fill a prescription? The question is: how far are CIGNA and Express-Scripts going to be allowed to continue their abuse? How far?

I hate that I am forced to use Express Scripts. You can't even get an Express Answer from them even when you finally get to talk to a “First Name Only Manager” to explain the seriousness of them causing me to go days without my diabetic medication. I even had a Case Number ready. They are horrible. They should be forced to take the Express out of their name. I cannot wait until they are exposed and out of business.

I have spent hours trying to get a prescription that I have been on for years. They said I never had it, my doctor cancelled it and it would be express mailed. FedEx lost it, ES when notified said they would resend, they didn’t, I went 4 days without it then got it from Walgreens for 30 days. Now they have it listed twice for different delivery dates. I’m going out of the country on the 31st but they can’t get it to me in time.

I’ve used Express Scripts three times since my Cigna LocalPlus plan became effective on June 1st. My first prescription was not even filled until 6 days after they received it. They did not get around to filling my second prescription also until 6 days after receipt; then they failed to email me about a delay despite promising me three days before to give me free overnight shipping. My third prescription was transferred to them on August 4th. They shipped it this morning, August 15th, after emailing me on August 12th that it was about to ship. Their name is a total joke. Do NOT use them for ANYTHING you need soon. Only use them for Rx you will not need for 2 weeks or so.

Since my company switched to their service, I have not had one good experience. Even talking to customer service, they sound like they don't want to be there. They wanted me to do their job, sending me to contact my doctor or pharmacy, etc. The errors are bad. The automated system and app notify me so many times and switch back and forth between authorized, processing, hold, cancelled, etc. I call and get different answers from the live agent than the app shows. The app gave me an arrival date. App shows processing. It just shipped finally, but now it is late and I don't have medication. They didn't care. I called, they did not send me overnight one dose or anything.

It's near impossible to find someone who will answer your question. They skirt around the issue and provide information that I am not asking for. Good luck obtaining your medication on time. They blame the DR, but I didn't have any issues picking up when I was able to grab my medication from the pharmacy. I am being forced to switch to mail order and Express Scripts told me it's my problem to get the DR to send them more information. What information could be needed, it's the same prescription I have been using that's been 'filled' by express scripts via the pharmacy. They make this complicated for unknown reasons.

Express Scripts, owned by publicly-traded Cigna, is one of the three largest pharmacy benefit managers in the U.S. In theory, their mail-order fulfillment business should run just like Amazon.com—medications are automatically delivered to patients timely. The reality is half this. If you have a basic run-of-the-mill prescription that doesn’t require refrigeration or is some sort of medical supplies, you may find success with Express Scripts. However, if you have more complicated medications, such as a diabetic supplies or insulin, you would be better off avoiding Express Scripts. The support agents are always cheerful, but the moment an issue comes up they turn into agents demonstrating a Comcast-esk level of incompetence.
I used Express Scripts for multiple years until I realized that like clockwork, every time there was a complication it would be incumbent on me to act as the middleman between the doctor’s office and Express Scripts to resolve very basic things. My doctor’s office noted that Express Scripts puts up inane bureaucratic hurdles for them, often devolving into faxes (FAXES?!?) having to be signed and sent, and then daily calls by me to make sure Express Scripts processed them so I wouldn’t die. Other issues involved them inappropriately sending medications costing over $1,000 via methods such as UPS’s SurePost which explicitly states it is not for use for “non-urgent” and “low-value” shipping needs. It took over five calls and two escalations for them to stop shipping expensive medications using this method to me.
Additionally, Express Scripts prices are no longer the most competitively priced after the acquisition. It’s worth shopping around using your health plans Rx pricer or GoodRx.com. Bottom line is that unless you have non-urgent, basic pill-based medications, you and your life will be far better off working with a local pharmacy, and ideally one that your doctor’s office regularly works with.

They should rebrand as Snail Scripts. My Dr. sent in a prescirption on July 20. By July 31, no meds had been received. I called and they said it would be filled on August 4 but would take 7 to 10 days. So basically a month wait time for my meds. I called to cancel the prescription so I could fill at my local pharmacy and they said it would take three days to cancel the prescription! Pathetic. Had to call their customer disservice department three times to even cancel the script. TERRIBLE service.

I've spent the last several months and many hours lost from work dealing with both Aetna and Express Scripts. I've lost income as a result of having to call Aetna and Express Scripts over and over again. Aetna's website, as well as its Customer Service agents, have informed me many times that my annual deductible had been met as of several months ago. Express Scripts, on the other hand, informed me that my deductible had not been met and thus it would cost me $884 for one prescription.
Express Scripts does not provide an email address or provide a secure member portal to contact them. Members have to call Express Scripts but the customer service representatives are never able to understand the issue. Thus, I have been UNABLE TO REFILL ANY PRESCRIPTIONS for months due to the exorbitant costs that Express Scripts would have charged me. I’ve made NUMEROUS calls and emails, including a 3-way call that I set up with Aetna and Express Scripts.
Aetna finally called me back yesterday and informed me that because Express Scripts had not updated my records, my deductible has not been met and "since the medical providers have already been paid, you will need to keep going to medical appointments for the rest of the year and pay out of pocket." That is an UNACCEPTABLE solution. I do not need to go to medical appointments for the rest of 2023 FOR NO REASON. Express Script's mistakes and incompetence are not my fault and I should not have to pay for those mistakes.

Express Scripts time and time again refuses the prescriptions that my doctors order. They force the doctors to prescribe alternative meds and make them write justifications. Then they finally approve the alternative and it turns out nobody has the meds and Express Scripts tells me to ask my doctor for another alternative. Hey how about not getting between me and my doctor and just give be the meds he prescribed in the first place. On top of that incompetence they shut off doing business with all the independent pharmacies in the country. This means my mother has to travel 20 miles now to get her meds when she used to just go a couple miles to her local pharmacy. This company is literally killing people with their incompetence and greed. Anyone that says gov't healthcare is great never had private insurance. I understand their model is to move people to mail order and make things a nightmare. What blows my mind is that if you attempt to move to mail order and it fails and you don't receive your prescriptions, it's on you. The first time I tried, it sat in pending status for over a week and never provided a reason for the failure. I still had a few refills left thankfully. So I tried again a month later, this time they claimed they tried to reach my doctor and they never responded, but when I asked for the method of contact, the story kept changing, because I've never had my doctor fail to respond. So was skeptical of the story.
Ultimately, despite never having asked for an exception, they refused to give me one and basically told me my only option with them was to wait. So Express Scripts considers going off your meds an acceptable option. Ultimately, thank God there is GoodRX, and I will say that the recent ads showing why people with coverage still use it hit the nail on the head. Express Scripts is a garbage carrier, and if you don't want to just go off your meds, you best not be relying on Express Scripts.
I think when they talk about Medical Crisis, this kind of stuff needs to be folded in there, Express Scripts doesn't care whether you remain medicated and healthy, or if you have to skip meds for weeks. They are just concerned that you strictly adhere to their boneheaded processes and don't expect small accommodations, and basically their bottom line.

This company is a plague to humanity. If I could give it 0 stars, or negative stars, I would. The amount of times my family and I have had to go without our medication because ExpressScripts insists on mailing it, so that's going take a few weeks, and I can't get them locally because Eff me, right? I can just die. Thanks ExpressScripts. Then they have the audacity to show me how much money I'm saving. That's how much I was paying before ExpressScripts got involved. I'm not saving any money, they just charge me more if I don't buy through them. The worst part is, you call them and you speak with people who have absolutely no experience in the medical field, they're not pharmacists or pharmacy techs, they're just random call center workers.
At least when I go to the local pharmacy I deal with pharmacy techs who know what they're talking about. Typically an issue that would take 5 minutes to resolve at my local pharmacy requires that I spend 2 hours on the phone with ExpressScripts, getting put on hold, transferred, hung up on, over and over. The billions of dollars this company is making from regular hard working Americans' suffering is ostentatious! The fact that I can't switch to an insurance that doesn't use ExpressScripts, is a violation of anti trust laws. I'm appalled that they have not been taken to court over this yet.

I have no choice but to use this company for my employer sponsored healthcare plan. Out of the blue, with no notice, they denied a prescription I have been taking through them for the past several years. They claim I need to try generic, when there is no generic equivalent. Basically, they are forcing me off a doctor prescribed medication that I need to function, with no recourse. Funny thing is, I was involved in selecting them as our large company's PBM. I was trying to split my order so I could pay with my HSA but even though I selected the 3 months plan they wouldn't fill without me calling since the total order was over the authorization limit. I cancelled the order and tried to start over since I'll have to use my credit card now, and the two meds I cancelled are no longer available to select.
I called twice and got stuck in the hell that is their automated answering system, the third time I finally got a person! Got through everything until she had to verify my shipping address (the only one I've ever had on file) and the call dropped. I give up. I have had the sorrow of being forced to use Express Scrips as a result of being a military dependant. I am a type 2 diabetic with the condition having worsened over the last several years. About 6 weeks ago, my doctor prescribed “**” in addition to insulin and metformin to treat my diabetes. Express Scripts declined this medication but suggested ** instead. This was agreeable to me and my doctor and we requested this prescription.
Express Scripts has filled one month of Trulicity for me. My doctor informed me that she gave to Express scripts specific and standard instructions for titration of ** dosage for monthly renewal prescriptions. This order is in accordance with best medical practices and as suggested by the manufacturer for best patient results. Express Scripts refused to do this and is currently requiring a new prescription each month - a complete waste for all parties.
I am utterly appalled that Express Scripts denied a prescription for **, but suggested ** instead and then caused a 5 week delay in filling this prescription all the while harassing me with e-mails and my doctor with requests for unnecessary requests for information and clarification on a standard prescription. This is typical behavior from the PBM giant that serves only them to increase profits while leaving patients hanging without necessary medication for their health issues.
This is not the first time I have encountered negative and irresponsible behavior from Express Scripts. Several years ago, Express Scripts refused a pill for diabetes, prescribed by my doctor in Colorado. Instead, Express Scripts insisted that I be prescribed “**” from which I had a serious reaction causing a ROARING UTI which required antibiotics to clear up.
All PBM's have special deals with Pharma companies for special pricing and reimbursements. Further the PBM is encouraged by financial compensation to favor one drug over another as demonstrated in the above paragraph. I recommend that all patients avoid Express Scripts Pharmacy entirely even if your prescriptions cost a bit more.

How many fake reviews are there for the rating to be over 3? The expression "Misery loves company" comes to mind when looking through these reviews. I hate that everyone else is dealing with this joke of a company, but it's nice to know I'm not the only one. I had some major health issues beginning in November 2019. Since then, I have been prescribed the same medication. Somehow, every time I had to order a refill on one particular drug was difficult. The others were nice and easy, but they are also cheap, so that makes sense. The one medication is expensive, so of course there are difficulties. Strange that the expensive drug is the one you have to jump through hoops for.
This year has been on another level. I had been out of this medication for 3 months. Express Scripts blamed my doctor, as they always had, so I went out and found a new primary to remedy the situation. That doctor's office also sent in the prescription, then 2 weeks later, the order was cancelled because they had no response from the doctor. I had them send it again, nothing. I finally had a specialist send in the order and it was finally completed. Two doctors in a row have issues with communication with this company, the problem is the company.
Now I've been dealing with the side effects of missing my medication for that length of time. It's time I'll never get back and it has without questions shortened my life, but at least they saved a few bucks. If having this insurance was up to me, I'd have quit it in a week. They get away with this because employers pay for it and they don't care either. I'm researching legal action, however I know how the track record of suing insurance companies looks. I am not hopeful.

At the beginning of all this, their site stated his meds were covered. However, when I finally found a compounding pharmacy that would bill them, the coverage was rejecting it. After the third call I finally found out it was ONE ingredient they were refusing to pay for--the base material for the dissolving sublingual. Although it's not something the average consumer can buy, They classify the base as OTC and refuse to cover it. So much for the med being covered. I need for less than $200 through Good Rx., while my copayment for the same medications through the Express Scripts process ends up costing me more than $600. Not only is it a 3rd as expensive, but I can accomplish it without having to argue, appeal, pre-authorize, or have either my Dr. or pharmacy make numerous phone calls or fill out written justifications to this 3rd party bureaucracy. Purposeful or not, what Express Scripts seems best at is to find ways to deny or overcharge for medications so that insured individuals will simply pay for their medications themselves, as I have chosen to do. If I could rate them a -10...I would!

My company switched insurance providers, and ES was the "recommended" on-line partner. I created an account online. No matter what medication I requested, it was refused. Told me it wasn't covered. Not true. Spent a couple of hours being passed about on the phone. Finally found someone who told me that the refusals were either because the insurance said it was too soon to reorder, or because I didn't have a prescription on record. Turns out the only way to get one is to have the doctor fax it in. Pills arrived a week later than they promised. Website has no record of my order, so I can't refill or check next due date. Worst online prescription site ever. Full of lies (they do *not* contact your doctor) and misinformation. Half of customer services is clueless.

There was a time that Express Scripts was reliable and they really lived up to their name. Those days are long gone. On more than one occasion, my insulin orders were delayed for days. In the most recent incident, I ran out of insulin (4 days ago). I spoke to five different reps (from June 5 to today), and they all gave me different stories. The insulin order was placed on May 28, 2005. They told me I had to wait until June 5. It is now June 12 and my insulin order is still "processing." The reps showed me no concern for my dire situation, just an update that proved that nobody did anything to expedite my order. At this point, it would appear that a trip to the E/R will get me some insulin. I would advise anyone who needs life-sustaining medicine to avoid Express Scripts completely.

I really hate Express scripts and I’ve had nothing but bad experiences. Our new insurance company insists that we order through them so I really don’t have much choice. They are impersonal, do not know me, and many times a foreigner with minimal English skills is your only contact in that as your play ring around the Rosie with their automated system. They don’t really want you to talk to anybody. If your medications get too low and you don’t notice tough luck because it could be two weeks before you get a refill.
Recently I ordered a refill one week before I ran out. At the end of seven days I had to travel to another city. I was out of this medication and couldn’t sleep the first night. I called my doctor and ask if he would approve an emergency Prescription for five days until I got back home to get my mail. He did, but Walgreens wouldn’t fill it saying that the insurance company wouldn’t approve it because Express Scripts had already billed them for the same prescription. When I spoke to someone there, they made sure to hang up on me so that I couldn’t leave a review of their service. These people are playing with our health and our lives. But you know what? They are making so much money they don’t care. Woe to you if you have to use them!

I've tried using Express Scripts for several years now. Each time I come back to test the waters, they mess up my medications. I have an autoimmune disease, cancer history, and I'm often unwell. They just quit shipping me one medication with no explanation, and since I moved that prescription to them from another pharmacy, I could no longer have it sent back to original pharmacy. Spent 2 weeks without medication that time. This time, I decided to have them delivered and paid for 1 day shipping. We are now over 24 hours since I placed my order and it hasn't even gone to processing yet. I cancelled the order and leave town in 5 days. If I have trouble using my regular pharmacy again getting my meds, it'll mean I'm leaving the country for a week without blood pressure medication. This place should not be allowed to continue to do this at the expense of my health.

Multiple problems with Express Scripts. Lost mail-order. When refilled again, the app showed order cancelled due to system issue, twice. Each time I was promised that meds are going to be dispatched the same or next day. But every time, I ended up calling back. I told the rep I will run out to meds. And the response was to speak to their pharmacist about side effects of missing doses. Why would I want to miss my dose???
I didn’t want to wait for a third time, assuming they would not mess up, but mainly because I didn’t have enough time for meds to arrive by mail, which could take 7-10 business days. I called my doctors and asked to transfer my meds to local pharmacy. I’ll fill every prescription I can at my local pharmacy and only use Express Scripts for those meds where I would get penalized if I don’t buy from them! Yes, that’s how they make money!

After 9+ calls AND having the doctor call in a different prescription for an "approved alternate" medication, that "approved alternate" medication was also DENIED. I had a previous prescription for ** (asthma inhaler) which I took for several years prior to moving to Costa Rica. At that time, I had no problems filling the prescription.
Now I returned to the U.S. for medical care (especially for asthma) and get the doctor to write a new prescription. Not surprisingly, he wanted me to take the same medication as the Asthma/Allergy specialist I was seeing previously had me take. So, after getting an initial denial, I received an email from Express Scripts indicating they wanted to prescription changed to either Advair HFA or Advair Diskus which were the "approved alternates". I called the doctor asking them to change the prescription to one of the "alternate approved" meds which they did. Now I find out that the "approved alternate" medication was also DENIED! So, now they want a "prior approval" call from the doctor. The requirements change every time I call Express Scripts.

I was struggling with getting my script on time. Every time I made a phone call they would promise to take care of the problem. The app that they use kept changing the dates to push it further out. I even resorted to 1 day overnight delivery at my own expense. The reality is that they lie every time I call. One “supervisor” even gave me a phony tracking number and said my order was on its way. I then found this site and read all the reviews and found that the phony tracking number was common practice. They kept telling me to get a script from my doctor to fill in the days that they were late even though they had at least 4 weeks to process my order.
Avoid this company at all costs. Every single call I made was a liar on the other end. It’s a waste of time to call them. I can’t believe they have not been charged criminally. Unlike a regular retail pharmacy, you cannot refuse the shipment. Express Scripts just fills the Rx & do not request confirmation from the Patient. If a Provider prescribes a medication & then changes the dose or directions, you are stuck paying for something you don't need. Also, a 30 day supply cost the same as a 90 day supply but they state there re no shipping costs!
Meds are sent through the mail with absolutely no regard to the temperatures during the shipping process or at the receiving end. We received a cream that was supposed to be below 85 degrees F. The day it arrived was a very hot day & the temp in the mailbox was closer to 95 degrees F. Since the mail arrives around 10am & we don't return from work till 4pm it is going to get hot. If meds are going to be shipped in extreme weather, they need to have some kind of packaging that will offer some kind of insulation. What if it was Insulin? Of course, you call & no-one can do anything you have to accept that the med is now non-effective or not as effective & it cannot be returned. This is a disgraceful system & extremely disappointing to the consumer.

I have used Express Scripts Mail Order Pharmacy for many years. It is also the chosen Mail order Pharmacy for Those with Tricare and various other insurance companies. I reached out to Express Scripts last Thursday because of a medication I have been on for years that had not made it to me via UPS 2nd day air (all my meds come UPS 2nd Day air). I always get notifications of when I need my meds filled (I forget sometimes). Express Scripts every time they fill and ship, I always get a notification about it and can track if need be. This medication happens to be a controlled substance (currently I am prescribed 3 medications that are Controlled).
There has also been a medication shortage over the past year, but this is not the issue at hand. My provider has not changed for many many years also. I’ve never gotten early fills and just recently received my first emergency fill of this controlled medication for a week’s supply to hopefully hold me over until my medication comes via UPS 2nd day air. (Much less any emergency supplies at all.)
Express Scripts states that they shipped my medication in question on April 27th. I had another medication filled the same day and it looks like it shipped around the same time and that one made it to me no issues. Now this second one has not made it, no tracking information besides “Label has been created.” No scans no Nothing. It is now 5/9 and it still hasn’t been scanned or made to me. I contacted Express last Thursday because usually my medication especially controlled get here within a day or two of me needing them which is perfect and has been great. When I first called about this inquiry, I was told it was potentially lost. They started to contact my doctor to contact them so they could get the medication filled out to me, because it should of made it by now and hasn’t. So I contacted my provider and they proceeded to tell her it is not lost but taking longer than expected.
I had spoken to another representative from Express Scripts on 5/7. She was kind, understanding and polite. It did not make any sense it hadn’t arrived either or had not been scanned besides it saying “Label was created at xx time”. I was asked to contact UPS and contact them on that status the next day. I called UPS and they stated they don’t have it in their possession and that only a label was created, no nothing. No scans. Nada. I called back on 5/8 like I was advised to do and I was put on with a Express Scripts rep who was rude, nasty and flat out said, "No. I won’t read the notes, this medication is controlled" and told me I’d have to wait it out until it comes. She made me feel like it was an inconvenience to call about this issue because this medication is a controlled substance.
Now while I did receive an emergency supply for 7 days … I will be in the same boat again at the end of this week. This isn’t a new medication for me, I’ve been on it for some years now. I felt uncomfortable calling to address this issue to begin with because of the stigma behind certain medications especially. She kept telling me UPS had to have it because it was scanned. No lady, it had NOT been scanned at all and hasn’t moved at all since the label was created. She offered to provide me with a tracking number because it seemed like I was getting the run around and she kept saying that she was correct and what I was saying was not the case.
I asked to speak with someone else because the rep on the phone just kept deflecting saying there was nothing she could say or do. I did speak with a gentlemen after that diabolical, none of this had made sense to him either as to why it has been at a stand still for 12 days now, has not been scanned or nothing. Obviously this is not my fault, but it is a problem.
There are some people who seek out certain medications, but obviously this is not the case here. I am just trying to get what the next steps are so I can get my medication and receive it. Because right now I am waiting for a rep to hopefully call me back but hasn’t happened yet. I’m upset at how these reps treat people like addicts. It is their job to make sure I receive my medication, and right now no one knows what’s going on, and it’s uncanny. Ups says they don’t have it. I don’t have it and Express Scripts is saying UPS has it but cannot prove it was scanned in or at all much less.
I switched to mail order because it is convenient due to the number of medications we pick up from the pharmacy and my doctor can also fill 90 day supplies for most of my medication. It keeps me out of the pharmacy a dozen plus times a month also. It is also a cost savings for my family. Plus it is also a struggle talking to people in general, much less something of this matter.

Express Scripts is a pharmacy benefit manager that provides prescription drug coverage to millions of Americans. The company advertises its services as being convenient, time-saving, and money-saving. However, many customers have found that the reality is quite different. One of the biggest complaints about Express Scripts is that it is difficult to get in touch with customer service. Customers often have to wait on hold for long periods of time, and when they do get through, they are often met with unhelpful or uninformed representatives.
Another common complaint is that Express Scripts is often slow to fill prescriptions. Customers have reported waiting days or even weeks for their medications to arrive, even when they have a valid prescription and have called ahead to ensure that the medication is in stock. In addition to these problems, Express Scripts has also been accused of overcharging customers for their medications. Customers have reported paying significantly more for their medications through Express Scripts than they would if they were to purchase them from a local pharmacy. Overall, many customers have found that Express Scripts does not live up to its promises of convenience, time-saving, and money-saving. If you are looking for a pharmacy benefit manager that will provide you with the best possible service, Express Scripts is not the company for you.
Recommendation: If you are looking for a pharmacy benefit manager that will provide you with the best possible service, I recommend that you look for a local pharmacy that you can trust. Local pharmacies are often more responsive to customer needs, and they are more likely to be able to fill your prescriptions quickly and affordably.

If I have a prescription from my doctor, that should be the enough to get my medicine. Unfortunately, ExpressScripts has caused multiple issues for myself and my doctor by needing to call the prescriber to manually approve a prescription. Keep in mind, this prescription was written by the doctor, but they find the need to require even more manual verification. This was not adequately communicated by the company, causing me the immensely stressful job of playing "middle man" between a ExpressScripts and my doctor's office. This has caused a 2 week delay in my medication from the date of the initial prescription, and has required the office to re-prescribe my medication. On top of this, the prescription is more expensive than competitors and requires signing. I don't care if my prescription is a controlled substance. None of this is necessary for other companies. If you have the choice, choose a competitor.

I got an emergency supply of meds from my doctor for seven days. Yesterday afternoon (2/16/23), I got a message from Express Scripts that my shipment was "delayed".
On calling them, I was put on hold, repeatedly, for more than 45 minutes while the CSR searched for someone who could or would help me. Finally I told him I wanted to cancel the order and I wanted documentation from them that said they were unable to fill my prescription as written in a timely manner. By the way, they were NOT out of stock on this medication - the CSR checked. Finally he came back on the phone again and said the "pharmacy tech" said the order had been shipped out yesterday (2/15/23) via DHL, even though on their website the prescription was still showing as "delayed". He gave me what was supposedly a DHL tracking number, ending in 703-3, which I repeated back to him accurately. I had written the number down as well, so I could track it myself. Well, surprise, on entering the number on the DHL site, it returns an "invalid tracking number" message!
This organization simply does not care what happens to its customers - they are strictly in it for the bucks. Never again. Then another medication last year I called them and they were a fraction of the local pharmacy. No issues until just recently when I went to refill this same medication. It went from $150 to $457 for a 90 day supply due to my deductible. But, I’ve had to call my doctor 5 times now, as they wouldn’t fill it without multiple calls for pre-authorization. And I kept calling and getting a different agent and they would seem confused.
Last week I was told they would expedite my medication as I’ve been out now for over two weeks and I had a refill from last fall. Today the agent said that is not true and I don’t and it’s going to take another 7-10 days. Then the agent told me today that everything has finally been cleared on their end and they are processing payment right away for $1,429.00. WHAT!? Hold on, for my medication? What happened to the $457 from last week? The agent explained that this is the deductible and there is nothing he can do, that is the cost. So I canceled everything, closed my account and dealing with my local pharmacy again thank goodness. I’m now three weeks without my medication, been playing the phone game for a month now and they have no idea on their end what is going on. It seems it depends on the agent you get on the answer you will receive. I advise against using them at all.

I am required by my insurance company to get this particular drug from Express Scripts. Every time it is ordered it is never shipped right away. I have gone without medication on several occasions. I have called to have them overnighted. Customer service lied. Said it was. I received it five days later. Again, without medication. Call center is in another country trying to understand what they are saying. Every three months I know I will not get my medication, so I have started taking less so I at least have something. If you do not have to use them, don't. You will be disappointed.

Worst online mail order pharmacy ever. I thought Optum was bad. Their IVR system is determined not to let you through on the phone (hint: hit a million random numbers that include # and * and don't answer the automated questions or you will never reach a human being); they make it impossible for my doctor to send them a script, so that instead I have to try to call them to send HIM a request or it never goes through; they demand pre-authorizatons for every two-cent pill, unlike every other provider in the universe, thus making my life and my doctor's life utterly impossible -- and then the cash prices they charge before your deductible kicks in are significantly higher than Walmart -- so why bother?
You might as well just go to Walmart and pay full price there and skip all this hassle. I am strongly considering cancelling the orders that are currently out there and just getting scripts for Walmart instead. (My pills are all cheap.) I have spent two weeks trying to get my scripts handled and I still can't get it straight and now have to make a wholly unnecessary doctor's visit to get it straightened out in person because XS is so insanely confusing, no one knows what they want, ever. Including XS, since both me and my dr have been given totally contradictory information over and over.

After a week of waiting on the one that was processing ES then tells me they aren’t filling that one either…the person I talked to told me to go to therapy…he is not a doctor and doesn’t know my history or anything about me…I have had alot of therapy, injections that are painful and expensive and major back surgery just so I could walk…ES treated me as a drug addict who is just seeking pills…that is very insulting to me…I will never ever use them again…they have caused me immense stress…they really do not care about your health at all…Pharmacists are not doctors …I can’t believe they think they know better than your doctor. They should be put out of business..They don’t deserve any stars but I had to give them one so I could submit my review…,.

Where do I start? My Dr sent prescriptions for my 6 meds to Express Scripts on 01/30/23. The next day, E.S. contacts me needing payment in order to process the order... no problem, so I immediately handled it. On 02/02, I checked the App and saw the order was being processed. I decided to call and see if I could get a ship date because I was down to my last week of meds on one of the prescriptions. First, I was informed that I needed to pay - I looked and my Bank showed the transaction with E.S. from 01/31 - so we finally got that one fixed... then I ended up spending 2 hours on the phone being transferred back and forth between reps and pharmacists to find out my order was scheduled to ship on 02/06, so they recommended I call my Dr for an emergency supply... but one nice lady said she talked to the pharmacy and was assured that they could probably ship my order by 02/4.
Well, here we are on 02/06 and still no order has shipped... I called back and as of today, my order shows that it will not ship until 02/16. I was told I have the option of going to my local CVS and having the meds transferred for local pick up, but It will cost me a few dollars more... I won't be receiving the benefit of the E.S special pricing and convenient home delivery... but I also will have my meds that I need and I won't be frustrated with the IMO unacceptable service I have had to tolerate from this company.
On a positive note - I've learned a lesson - the peace of mind on knowing my meds will be waiting on me for pick up later in the same day of my Dr visits is worth more that the few dollars I'd save from using E.S. CVS was more than happy to help me transfer my meds. Now, pardon me while I rest for a bit before I tackle the mission of trying to get my $300 refunded.

I have had nothing but trouble with customer service since the beginning of this whole transition. After finally getting to switch from Robo call to a live agent after repeatedly asking 3 times telling robot, "I need live person." The customer service was about as useful as the robot. If I asked Pill Pack for immediate refill they would have at my doorstep the next morning. After going to my doctor my meds were changed. Express Scripts received my new script the same day. After checking online they said it was filled but will not be shipped until April. This is what I needed to change. Agent said to call my Doctor and have him call into local Pharmacy. If I need to call and pick up at Pharmacy, what do I need them for? This company has been terrible in my short term of dealing with them.

I have spent almost an entire month battling with Express Scripts. 1/1/23 I switched my benefits to my husband's plan to save money. I previously had CVS Caremark and they were wonderful. If name brand was out- they automatically replaced. If you wanted to pay for name brand you could. The generic version of my medication is out nationwide.
My doctor was proactive putting my new prescription in for an increased dose that I needed before I ran out. Well now it's been 25 days of back and forth with express scripts to get an approval. My doctor submitted a pre authorization for the name brand- denied. They did an appeal -denied. They basically cornered me into using their mail service and swore they had the generic in stock. It's now been a week since they said I'd receive it and guess what, they are out of stock.
Now they told me my doctor has to submit ANOTHER PRE AUTHORIZATION to get the name brand approved due to a nationwide shortage. THEY KNEW THIS!!My medication is not supposed to be stopped cold turkey. I am suffering when there is 0 need for it. They should be investigated. I have no idea when or if I'll ever receive my medication.

Our state government uses them as one of several prescription medicine suppliers. Years ago I tried to order from them and it was ridiculous process which I ended up cancelling. Accidentally my doctor's office send a prescription renewal to them instead of Walgreens (my preferred) and when it showed up I sent it back unopened. Since then they’ve been billing me and have turned it over to collections. I informed them that I didn’t order it and it was returned. Apparently they don’t accept returns and it is now ‘refusal to pay’ and unresolved. Annoying, uncommunicative, and predatory in my book - I would not recommend using this ‘service’.

Express Scripts fills several Rx's for my wife and myself. In general, the process is smooth and predictable. Recently, I have spent multiple hours on the phone with my Dr. and Express Scripts working through a Rx requiring Prior Authorization. While the phone representatives are polite and knowledgeable, they lack authorization to make the required action happen. In fact, they have to put me on hold in order to bring in another representative to the issue (a pharmacist, the direct clarifications line, a referral to another Express Scripts 800 #, etc.).
Please trust that my Rx is not that difficult. My Dr. office is responsive and provides the information required, however it seems the information is not entered into Express Scripts data base adequately for the next steps in their process. My most recent hour on the phone where I conferenced in Express Scripts and the Dr. office ended with a dropped connection (tech breakdown, miskey from Express Scripts with the 4th person I talked to, I'm not sure.). My doctor office called back. Express Scripts did not. If you need an Rx for something routine, Express Scripts seems to perform ok. If you hear the words "Prior Authorization", my advice is to stop and take your Rx elsewhere. That is what I am doing after spending hours on the phone with them.

I have been using Express Scripts for mail order prescriptions for 20 years. In the past they were reasonably reliable and efficient. Starting about two year ago, their service has become extremely poor. They now seem to go out of their way to make the process of filing a prescription as painful as possible. They are slow and nonresponsive. They are now requiring preauthorizations for almost all prescriptions. The preauthorization process involves the doctor, who is prescribing the medication, having to justify why he thinks the medication is really appropriate for the patient. This involves substantial additional time of the doctor and his staff. Given that the doctor submits the prescription in the first place and therefore obviously thinks it is the correct medication for the patient, it is unreasonable to add this extra bureaucratic roadblock.
For one medication, I spent 7 hours on the phone with Express Scripts representatives and the doctor's office spent several more for a generic drug for which Express Scripts was charging $9 but which I found I could get through Good RX for $13. The $4 savings is not worth the hassle of dealing with Express Scripts. I have also found that almost all of the representatives that I speak with at Express Scripts are incompetent. They don't understand their own systems and they can't actually help with any issue. I have found that they often just make things up. I have caught several of them in outright lies.
I have also had representatives hang up on me in the middle of a phone call. This is especially annoying because it takes at least 10 or 15 minutes to navigate through their Bot menu to get to talk to a real person. Also, why does the Bot ask for all of your identifying information and then the live representative, once you finally get to one, asks for all of your identifying information again?

As USAF Retiree I receive the majority of my meds from Express Scripts (ES). Having 20 plus years in the pharmacy field I am appalled at the TOTAL LACK of Customer Care Service displayed by the folks at ES. On 16 January 2023 My physician selected to keep me on eye drops that were originally filled at my local pharmacy. Therefore, I requested thru ES this script be transferred from my local pharmacy to ES. Today is 24 January 2023 and I was called by ES to notify me the med is on backorder. From the 17th to the 24th no word from ES and without the much needed meds for my Detached Retina. And now back-ordered. How convenient!!!! Plus, when ES was questioned today the Supervisor I spoke with was extremely Rude & Obnoxious. Didn’t care whether I had my medication or not. On my ES account the request for this script to be transferred on 1-17-2023 conveniently disappeared. Again, how convenient!!!!
Then when I requested to speak with a person above this bottom line supervisor she refused my request and put me on “terminal hold”. I waited for over 56 minutes and finally gave up. Now I’m calling back. ES needs a total overhaul and many of the employees I’ve dealt with on this issue need employment elsewhere. It is my firm belief the “Care with Compassion” standard n this pharmacy organization has COMPLETELY disappeared if they ever had it.
How many other Vets and/or patients in extreme need of possible life threatening medications are given this same “dog & pony show”? A complete review of personnel is warranted.

I've been taking a brand-name prescription for the past 4 years. The generic was made available at the beginning of 2022. Last year, I had to transfer the prescription to another pharmacy because I moved. The nurse sent a prescription saying that brand name is preferred but generic is ok. Because of this, Express Scripts didn't pay for that occurrence. Later I had to ask the doctor to prescribe brand name only. I understand the active ingredients are the same but I didn't want to switch because it could be life-threatening.
This year, they completely rejected the brand name coverage. My doctor sent out a prior authorization for the prescription but got denied. I asked my doctor to send out an appeal, it seems they were so confused and opened up a new PA every time. I've been calling them every day for the entire week and spent lots of time on it. I know that the insurance company just doesn't want to pay for the brand name unless I have an accident on the generic drug. They don't care about patients well being at all, just care about the money. This is a very traumatizing experience. I can't make changes to my insurance plan anymore this year. But next year, I would definitely find somebody else rather than Aetna and Express Scripts. The doctor's nurse even told me that they have never dealt with some company like this before.

Express Scripts is by far one of the most horrible organization when it comes to handling your medications. The only concern this company concerns themselves with is how much money they can make off you. They can care less of the concerns you have or what the cause of you not having your medications could cost you, when I say cost I do not mean money but mean your health and well being. My doctors are all very good in their fields of study, and have absolutely outstanding bedside manners. They all listen to my concerns, attempt to make the best medical decisions and are always looking out for me as their patient. In regards to Express Scripts they have failed to fill my scripts and are charging me a $700.00+ for not having it delivered to my home address.
In numerous phone calls to them, as well as multiple attempts to explain to them that with my travels I am not always home they have still failed to fill my scripts. In many of my conversations, I have been told that an override had been completed so I would be able to pick up only to find, like many others, that they are just telling you this to get you off the call. As many know already, Express Scripts will express themselves to know more than your own medical team and have more knowledge than them when it come to your own personal care. They would rather make as much money off of you as they possibly can no matter the cost and no matter your health or well being.
It has finally gotten to the point that I want to write this review so we as consumers can do everything in our power in order to rid us of all from companies such as Express Scripts. They are a false company who pretends to be medical professionals. In some cases they will even claim to know more about your medical history than your own doctors. When asking who makes the decisions on whether or not you get your medications or not they will claim that is our insurance company that does but yet we cannot speak to that individual nor can we even speak to them in general about our medications. They will also try to pass you off to their pharmacist so you can even find out what to expect if you don't use them to get your medications in order to scare you in doing whatever they say.
They truly are not a care provider that has the patient as the most important but yet they themselves are the most important. If you are someone who travels a lot and find it difficult at times to be home, stay away from Express Scripts, inform your doctors to file appeals, save yourself the headache or you will be in for a world of hurt not to mention you could end up in the hospital due a to a decision someone on a phone decided to make.

I contacted them on the same day and elected to have them contact my doctor for a suitable alternative. The customer support person said that a tech would email me when my doctor was contacted. By 1/4/23 I had heard nothing so I contacted them through their email form. I received an email confirming receipt and stating that most emails are responded to within 24-72 hours.
By 1/7/23 I still had heard nothing so I emailed them again. As of today (1/11/23) I still have not had a response to either email. However, on 1/8/23 I received an email stating that my order, including the med that was not available, had been shipped. But when I clicked on the tracking icon I received a blank page except for the message, "Bad request." On succeeding days I have tried multiple times to get tracking info with the same result.
It is now 14 days since the prescriptions were submitted by my doctor and I have no meds and no way to verify if they have even been shipped. I have written a letter of complaint to the Defense Health Agency who administers their contract (I think) for Tricare but I have little expectation that it will produce any change. Their customer service is essentially non-existent and it does not appear that they care.

I was informed by my insurance I had to use Express Scripts for a difficult to get medication. My doctor sent the prescription in and after a week delay I called and was told it was processing. After a few days I called and then they couldn’t find the prescription. My doctor sent it again. A few days later I called and was told to use Accredo, which is the infusion pharmacy owned by Express Scripts. So my doctor sent the script there. Another week and now Accredo can’t find the script. Finally they locate it and start arguing that Express Scripts has to fill it. Luckily a very helpful employee sent it to a resolutions team who determined Express Scripts was responsible. So then Express Scripts insists on another prescription which my kind doctor sends in. As I’m trying to order it I notice the quantity is now incorrect and it’s three days worth versus thirty.
I called and the employee on the phone said I would have to get another new prescription AGAIN to fix their mistake! At this point I’m desperate and had to stay in the ICU over Christmas because I was out of medication so I ordered the three days of medication and paid for the three days shipping. A week later and I still haven’t gotten the medication and it says processing. Despite trying to resolve all this their answer was the offer for me to speak to a pharmacist to talk about what happens if I stop the medication. Worst company ever. I’m not the type of person to complain but other people need to know about this company so they don’t end up dead waiting for medications. I plan on filing a complaint with my insurance.

I was contacted by them the beginning of October stating that I can no longer fill my prescriptions at CVS otherwise I will pay a higher retail price. I said okay I will transfer my prescriptions over. It has been a nightmare ever since. The first prescription I transferred was ** and that was October 4th. I was told it was backordered even though CVS has it on hand. I asked them if I could just pick it up from CVS. I was told I could not and I should ask my doctor for an alternative. They advised it would be in stock on 11/15. I went over 2 weeks without it and fortunately when I told my doctor he quickly reached out and gave me a sample.
I called Express Scripts on the 15th of November they still did not have it in stock and I also asked them about the other 3 prescriptions I had that needed to be filled since I did not want to run out of those. They said they would put the order in and they would ship within 3-5 days. I waited 3 days no update. I checked online and saw it was still processing. At this point I have no faith so I contacted customer service and was told they were waiting on approval from my doctor to have the prescriptions transferred over.
I contacted my doctor's office via the patient portal and sent them an email letting them know Express Scripts would be contacting them and I provided the contact number I was given by Express Scripts. The front desk advised they would reach out if they did not receive anything. I also have an in person appointment with them every month so I know they are always on top of things. I've been a patient at my doctor's office for over 3 years and this has never happened before so I know the issue is not on their end.
Here it is over 3 weeks later and I don't have my three prescriptions and 2 months later I still don't have my ** which is now in stock. Four days this week I was told it will be overnighted as an emergency need. Nope, nothing. We are so done with this company. Has ruined our week. They do not care. All about the money. I was advised by the express scripts team that they will send the medications after 7 calendar days. They had no concern that I was almost of one med and totally out of another. On day 8 I had to pay for extra shipping and force them to send the medication. They do not care about patient health and the government needs to step in to govern the actions of this company. I checked online and again deleted credit card, no checking account number listed as I deleted that several years ago. On the mobile app on my husband's account the checking account number still shows thus the eCheck not authorized. We never selected auto pay. When I place an order I always select to have a bill sent. But it seems that even though you delete all your payment info, Express Scripts still finds a way to take money out of your account. Isn't this fraudulent???

Express scripts has been our prescription insurance for several years, with $10/90day copays for my depression medication. However they changed the copays right before open enrollment to $20/90 day copay. Open enrollment for our employer started November 1st (as well as most places), the term of our insurance changes every January. I found this out October 6th. When I called, I was told that they could change copays during open enrollment (which was a month after this conversation), and there was nothing they would do, despite the insurance contract had for that year.
Apparently, the company is switching prescription providers this January 2023, and this was the way that Express scripts decided to handle this. The end consumer, the average Joe gets to pay because of a retaliatory response by Express Scripts for a decision they don't have control over. I wouldn't be mad if this had happened after open enrollment when the contracts change anyways, but they decided to strike at people who need prescriptions refilled between their contract not being renewed and it expiring.

I have been using the Express Scripts pharmacy for over a decade for my ** medication. I have been using ** for over 15 years initially the instant release then around 4 years ago I switched to the extended release. I experience extremely uncomfortable withdraw effects if I am even an hour late taking this medication. I cannot stress the severity of the withdraw other to say the effects are terror inducing at the possibility of not having my medication.
For the past 2 years my ** medication has been inconsistent in its effectiveness. Initially, I thought I was forgetting to take the **, but as time flowed the frequency of withdraw symptoms exceeded the days the medication was actually working. After 18 months I asked my doctor to switch back to the instant release, and to my horror the outcome was even worse. At least 80% of the time the medication was clearly not working.
I had my doctor begin the extended release again, but rather than use the Express Scripts pharmacy I had her send it through the CVS pharmacy, but I no longer trust the quality of the medication provided through the Express Scripts pharmacy. When I picked up my prescription I was floored when I had to pay $339 dollars for a generic medication, because Express Scripts only covered 15% of the prescription cost. The medication from the CVS pharmacy is working, unfortunately I cannot afford to pay over $339 a month for my medication.
I do not have the resources to send the medication I receive through Express Scripts to a lab to determine the quality of the medication, but I am convinced Express Scripts is selling low quality medication, while providing inadequate coverage to purchase from another pharmacy. I do not know if Express Scripts is unaware, they are providing poor quality medication or not, but I do know the ** is inconsistent in effectiveness and I worry the poor quality is not exclusive to the ** and might result in tragedy if this extends to critical medications resulting in death. My complaint is both the poor-quality medication from the Express Scripts Pharmacy as well as the absurdly low Express Scripts coverage when using another pharmacy. I have no idea how I will be able to obtain quality medication, but I will likely have to stop taking ** altogether.

So, I no longer have a way to monitor my blood sugar. They were not able to override the denial because my monthly allotment had been allocated even though I have not received my prescriptions from them still, and it has been over two weeks since they promised to fix their mess and they are telling me there is nothing, they can do to fix it.
They have been told several times that they are putting my life in jeopardy and that I am going to file a complaint with the Board of Pharmacy, and they just don't care that without a monitor I could go into shock and die. Run! Away from them and pressure your insurance provider to not use their service, they are a rip off, and simply don't care. I informed them that I was aware that had done so because I was present. They then suggested I try a steroid cream which is out of the question due to I cannot use steroids in a any form so I just gave up which I am sure is what they wanted. That was a year or so ago. Now, they will not pay for anything because my deductible is like $300. I am transferring all my scripts to a different pharmacy and using a discount card instead. So four more times my dr sent it over and they still didn't get it. They eventually had to do it over the phone.
I waited two more weeks, at this time I've been out for a month because this is taking so long, after two weeks I called Express Scripts and the pharmacy informed me it's no longer available so they canceled it without telling anyone!! Really? Genius!! Now I've been out for 5 weeks. My dr sent over a generic form of the injection a couple days ago and I still don't see it in my active orders. I've been getting this since 2006. If I ran my business like Express Scripts ran theirs, I would be out of business within a week. If I could rate them with ZERO Stars, I would. Express-Scripts consistently gives me a hard time about getting my prescriptions filled, especially when they are controlled substances. Your PreAuthorization process is nearly impossible to navigate. When contacted, Express-Scripts says they have contacted my doctor, but there is no evidence that they have done so. The doctor consistently says that no one has reached out to them. When the doctor does fill out the PreAuth form, Express-Scripts OFTEN says that the form/process wasn't followed correctly and declines the prescription without contacting the doctor's office for follow-up. Instead, I get a declination letter weeks later telling me that the PreAuth has been declined.
Express-Scripts first level customer service is generally empathetic, if you can reach them (sometimes I've been on hold for an hour, and often I'm on the phone for more than 30 minutes at a time), but rarely can they assist very much. It's not their fault - they have to read from a script and can only assist with what they can see on a computer screen. It is very difficult to get to 2nd level support. To be frank, with the prescriptions that I am on - I am usually calling Express Scripts WEEKLY to try to get something rectified.

Through my work insurance, I have Express Scripts. Several times now, they've sent emails saying that a medication I've been on for years is not covered. When I call them and call my doctor eventually it is covered again. One time they required me to order a different med, then let me go back to the original one. The reps on the phone don't know or won't say why. And this is not as a new year starts either, where you might expect something in coverage might have changed. Just spent a long time on the phone yesterday; another one for the same drug in process now, waiting to see if they accept the dr's new prescription for it.
At one point the rep brought a pharmacist on, though I'm not sure she really was. She told me the prescription in question (**) was already a generic, true. But then she said that the brand name of mometasone was another medication altogether, **, another generic. The two meds treat similar conditions but are different and have different effects. I was shocked that a pharmacist didn't know and didn't even feel uncertain enough to check the info. The rep didn't help, told me later that no one there says anything on the phone that they aren't looking at on the screen and that there was no way the "pharmacist" would have said what she did unless she was reading it. So that's even worse, if Express Scripts has incorrect info about drugs in their system and aren't fixing it. It was a long, time wasting, annoying slog working with Express Scripts on the phone.
At one point the rep gave me a number for Benefits, said they might know more. Number didn't work, connected and then cut off, every time I tried it. When I called back another rep said she had no record of a dept called Benefits, and she had no record of the number I had been given, Closest she had was a number for a dept called Eligibility, she gave me a third number for that. I didn't bother to try it; was too burned out on it all. I suspect they just randomly select drugs to not cover in the hopes that the patients will just give up and not take the meds anymore, or pay for them themselves. The whole vibe from them is awful.
I am due to retire probably next year, been researching Part D drug plans. I now know that Cigna sells Part D plans and Express Scripts is part of Cigna. All sorts of complaints here and on the net in general from the poor souls who selected one of those plans and have then been stuck for the year till they can switch away. Not going there; picking a plan that gives me options and doesn't have tons of complaints. Life is too short. Posting this because I am glad others here posted, was just now valuable to me.

And if the prescription is written for 30 day for more than 3 months they start charging you a higher price as a penalty for not getting a 90 day prescription. They call you constantly to push you to use their online service. I finally used the online service and the prescription was there and processing.
All of a sudden, a week later it disappears off the site as if it was never there. I called and the person said it was cancelled. When I asked why and why was I not notified, they put me on hold for 15 minutes. Only to come back on and tell me that they are on hold with the department that can tell me why. I'm stuck with ES through my husband's employer and it's an absolute disaster every time I try to get my medication. I have to call EVERY TIME because there is always an issue with them and my medication is usually late. I used to fill my prescription anywhere in the country, as long as there was a Walgreens - very convenient if you are traveling frequently. If you are stuck with ES, you don't have that flexibility - you have to call them way in advance to make sure your medication arrives to your address on time.
And who uses USPS for anything Express? We know USPS routes are bizarre and packages get lost all the time. I once ordered a product that was filled in NC, to be delivered within NC, and it traveled to Midwest, then to PA, then to the same place where it was filled, and then finally - to me. Go figure. This ES business will go out of business eventually. In the meantime, I'm switching to another insurance carrier through my own job, that doesn't use ES. Can't wait to be back to Walgreens.

This company refused to give me Diabetic medications until I received a pre-authorization from them when we switched to this (unfortunate) third party prescription insurance. I spent hours on the phone with Express and my doctor's office simply trying to receive Diabetes medication! I spent almost a month trying to sort this out. Not acceptable. Still ongoing.
*For context, when a Diabetic is put on a new medication, the doctor starts at a low dose and works up to a higher dose. Each and every time, the SAME medication that has already been approved must be REAPPROVED by Express. So, for a medication they already approved, the dose must be RE-APPROVED! I had the pre-authorization fall through the cracks several times.
Some of the customer service employees at Express are helpful, but that does not help me when I do not have continuous access to the medication that my doctor deemed necessary, and prescribed! How is this allowed, to deny my lifesaving and necessary medication, because Express has too much red tape? One of the Express employees obtained an override, but I assume this will happen again, and I can only have one override.

They further stated it would be 30 days before they could provide a refund and stated their policies prohibited them from overnighting a new supply of medication and that my dr would have to write a new prescription and it would take another 8-10 days to process the prescription and I would be charged again.
I could provide 100 more details bc I have spent hours in the last 5 days attempting to rectify this situation and am still with no medication and no resolution to the problem. This situation is beyond poor customer service- it is dangerous for people who rely on their service for prescription medication. They even went so far as to accuse my doctor of turning in a “forged” prescription for a non ** psoriasis medication to avoid having to pay for it. If all the rest of the folks that are having trouble with this corrupt, passive aggressive, and most of all highly incompetent company want to start a class action lawsuit against them, I will gladly do whatever I can to shut their doors forever! If I had known this beforehand, I would have stayed with CVS. This is a terrible company and, someone will die trying to or, waiting to get their meds. Avoid.

I'm to the point of nearly being fully depleted on a necessary and daily medication that was ordered nearly two weeks ago, and when I finally got some dimwitted agent on the line she said "Mmhmm...well we're experiencing issues right now, so maybe call back in like, I dunno, two or three hours?" There is not one single part of this process that is beneficial to users, and the "help" they offer is negligible at best. Genuinely the worst prescription service I've been forced to use in 33 years of diabetes care.

You will have to call because you will constantly have problems with them for some reason. You won't know the reason, they will just text you or email you to tell you you aren't getting your meds, and tell you to contact your doctor. This will waste your time, the doctor's time, and whoever eventually you talk to at Express Scripts. Then they will say you have to call the doctor and the doctor will have no idea what the problem is because they already sent the prescription in. They were supposed to make a decision on my case appealing their decision of not reimbursing me since I used an "out-of-network" pharmacy which happens to be the only pharmacy making the specific suppositories my specialist had prescribed me. After receiving my application, a lady called me and said that since she "was on a long hold with" the other pharmacy to verify the NDC number that she "could not see " in their system, she had to cancel my "internal" appeal. I had to call the other pharmacy and verify the number they were looking for and I obtained that number.
However, when I called Express Scripts pharmacy to give them the number they were looking for. I was told that I need to start the entire appeal application all over again. In other words, their "policy" is OKing to quit trying to reach third-party pharmacies and yet it is not OKing to accept the information they are looking for from patient (which they can attempt to get it anyway if they want to bother to re-attempt). Not to mention that they are recording your voice and there is no need to worry about you lying to them. I would never recommend this pharmacy to anyone unless you are stuck with it through your employer choice of pharmacy.

Updated on 07/09/2022: Yesterday I marked my review of Express Scripts as "resolved", based upon direct communication with a pharmacist and two ES system generated webmails thanking me and saying that it as was pleasure to serve me. So to recap, a brand name medication was orded by a doctor in Nov 2021 and shipped. A series of endless loops between May and July 1st led me to post an initial review about the incorrect and misleading communication between express scripts and myself. Basically I was informed at the start of a 3 day holiday weekend that I needed to contact my doctor.
Then after posting my review, I was contacted by an ES rep who supposedly resolved the issue yesterday. So now it's, today, a Friday, after hours when I get another call that the issue is not resolved. And I can do nothing about it until Monday! Another 3 day delay added to the three months this has been going on. Here's is what the ES rep told me tonight: Express Scripts can request a renewal and a reorder from a provider except when it concerns a brand name. Express Scripts can substitute a generic medication at will for a brand name that was ordered.
Although I was told by a pharmacist 2 days ago that a note was entered into the system to supply the brand name and although there is an existing order in the system for a very specific Brand Name, I find out on a Friday night that it still cannot be shipped. The call tonight informed me that ES can only ship a RX for a brand name if the RX contains the words "do not substitute generic".
To complicate matters, the orders go electronically from the doctor's office to ES so I have no first hand knowledge nor the ability to confirm what order was transmitted. I have no ability to know if the transmission included those specific words or even if there is a field on the transmission form to enter those words. Only ES knows how "the rules" and can monitor the compliance. I have dealt with many a pharmacy with a pharmacist who is more than willing to request a specific order of a provider. As a retired provider myself, I have had a pharmacist contact me to write a very specific order that they can then fill in accordance with policies.
I asked the ES representative who called me tonight is she could contact the provider to request the order that needed specific wording and was told no, ES is not permitted to do so. She went on to explain that Tricare changed a requirement back in Jan that prevented them from filling my existing brand name order without those specific words. That may be, however it is now July 8. Seven months have gone by since Jan 1st. Hours of multiple calls and webmails and messages and log ins over days, weeks and months.
There are too many pieces to the Tricare-ES communication system and there seems to be no one who is able to manage, coordinate and communicate the various pieces of this one order. This is the 4th time I have been told that if I did, "XYZ", that they could ship the medication and on 3 past occasions of me doing "XYZ" I was told it was resolved.
This company needs create policy to allow direct ES pharmacist-provider communication. There is absolutely no need for me, an elderly customer who uses a computer speech program, to speak to my provider and request him/his staff to place an order with very specific Tricare-ES criteria. I have no oversight as to the order being correctly transmitted. I have no way of knowing if the transmission was successful or not.
One solution may be to ask for a handwritten RX so that I can see that the words, "do not substitute generic" are written on the script and I can capture an image before taking it to my local pharmacist. After filling, I could then go online and request ES to transfer it. However, since a transfer is basically an request for an order and since I was told they cannot request an order that has the words, "do not substitute generic", this solution is also likely to fail. A second solution would be to ask for 2 handwritten scripts. One for my local pharmacist and one to mail into ES, (taking a photo before mailing). I am terrified of the future. I have lost my ability to swallow and talk. As I age further, I will lose more abilities. I am terrified of not being able to physically or cognitively be able to get the medication I need to breathe.
Original Review: Despite a call by me to Express Scripts on June 17 and reassurances by the ES representative that my non generic medication was corrected in the system and would be shipped automatically as ordered, that did not happen. Instead the generic was processed and ordered. It arrived on July 1, just prior to the start of a 3 day holiday weekend. I then used the ES site to compose a message in order to establish documentation. The ES message reply to me contains information directly in conflict with the phone call information I was given 3 weeks earlier. This is not the first time I have had to spend significant time resolving my prescription issues. ES has been placing access to mediation barriers more frequently as the years go by. I am elderly and it is no longer easy for me to deal with message documentation.
I need a company who will not only accept phone communication but will document those phone conversations and act upon the information they provided to me in the phone conversations promptly. I need a company whose system is able to accept and retain resolutions reached during phone conversations. The other issue is the Express Scripts screen display of my medications. After the doctors enter in a medication, I can see the name and confirm it is correct. However, at some point, the ES screen display at a future log while change and show a different medication. In the past, I have added the specific brand name to my cart, checked out and received an email of ES processing my order. Instead of receiving that I will receive a generic.
Last month, I saw a new generic medication has been received and was being processed for delivery. Six days later I received an email to log in. I did. The medication reverted from "being processed for delivery" to "we are contacting your doctor". Another week went by and I received an email to log in. This time the medication was removed altogether and I was advised to contact my doctor for a lower tier medication. Despite the fact that I had already tried lower tier medications and could not tolerate them.
I need a company that displays on the history of ordered medications on the screen. It is confusing to see a medication displayed one time and then disappear another time. It is confusing to see a medication being processed for delivery when in fact it cannot be because the system stumbles along for weeks until it can inform me that it is a higher tier medication. Finally, I need a company who will provide me promptly (3-5 business days) with the criteria they use in regards to approving a medication. Express Scripts will not do that. I am instead directed to write a letter to them to request their criteria. It has been 5 weeks since I requested their criteria over their messaging system and 3 weeks since I mailed the letter to them asking what criteria they use to approve a higher tiered medication. They I have received their reply.
I do not understand why approving criteria cannot be displayed on the screen when I am logged in. What is the purpose of having to request approving criteria in a letter? What is gained by me suffering for months with symptoms that cannot be controlled using lower tiered medications? Ironically, I log into the Express System before my doctor appointment, am satisfied by the screen display, keep my Appointment and inform my doctor what I saw in the system only to discover that a week or more after my appt when I again log in to check a status or respond to an email from ES to log in, that the screen is displaying something different and that I need to again contact my doctor!!
I need a company that offers prescription filling within 2-3 business days not weeks of delays. If such a company does exist, I would be most grateful to learn of their program costs. I am retired military and for the past 18 years have been forced to use Express Scripts due to congressional policy and military directives that prevent my promised lifetime access to free prescriptions being filled at the base medical facility. I am reaching my limits with Express Scripts and I cannot find a way to disengage from their services because it is linked in a unique way with Tricare For Life.

Mind you they received the same information that I did and not only that, they had set up 2 separate accounts for me as well which made the situation even worse. Express Scripts (ESI) has a terrible practice of contacting a physician to circumvent the "automatic refill" process. When a refill count is low, they will contact the physician's office to obtain a new order. Upon receiving this order, they automatically process and ship as quickly as possible. In this way, I've accumulated hundreds of unneeded pills, despite having automatic refill turned "off." There is no way to return the pills, no way to dispute. There is one department -- A customer service person who has no authority but to tell you the policy and that they have no authority. This company is scamming the insurance industry, in my opinion, and over-filling prescriptions. If this can happen to me, it can happen to others. And that's millions of dollars wasted on unused prescriptions.

Express Scripts denied the claim because it was not mailed. We mailed the forms Certified Mail, Return Receipt - they claimed they never got them. They literally signed for them.
We mailed them again, they refused to reimburse because we didn't send the original receipts. The original receipts were sent in the first time. We tried uploading on the portal. Again denied. We tried to call and were placed on hold for hours - not once, not twice, but every time we called. We had since discovered other employees going through similar problems. Read their BBB reviews. It was a lot of work that on the best note shows a breakdown or lack of investment in high velocity IT practices or process issues. A gap if you will. At worst it shows the possibility of budgeting getting in the way of a medically certified doctor assisting their patient. I doubt every ending is satisfactory in nature.

The other products have caused lots of discomfort, personal damage and inconvenience all the while not actually helping with the condition. I spent two and a half weeks getting bounced around pharmacies, running around to get forms filled out only to have CVS "lose" the paperwork. They seem to be partnered.
I transferred to another covered pharmacy network and they made sure the forms got filled out and sent in over the course an entire day. Finally I thought, results for what we pay them for. No. No, results. They auto denied the claim and explained alternatives do exist and that this medication was too expensive for them. Well, why am I forced to pay you then? What good are you. I did not want to use Express Scripts from the beginning but decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. WRONG!!!! Each and every refill has been a marathon of problems. The straw was I called in a script and was informed it would arrive on a particular day. No medicine. I called to check on it. OH. "We tried to call you yesterday (one time) to let you know you would not get your medicine for another 3 days." I have one pill. That means two days without my cancer medicine. Going to change to a military facility. This medicine is $28,000. Their stupidity is going to cost them. Somebody needs a counseling session. Stay sane, order from somewhere else.

I have this company through work and they are literally the worst. Please review their BBB profile before purchasing for yourself or your employees. They offer as few drug as humanly possible and do not communicate that you must ask your doctor for a 3 months supply of meds and have it shipped. You have to jump through a million and one hoops to get what you need. It's abhorrent.

Once again, I am amazed at the poor customer service from Express Scripts. This is even more embarrassing as I am an Express Script retiree. I contacted Express Scripts to report that they were mailing confidential medical information to patients who have not lived at this address for five years. Contacting Express Scripts I was told there was nothing that the person on the phone could do to help and they could not provide any information as to someone to contact to help resolve the situation and help their patient. Unfortunately this reflects the same type of service that I received while an employee and patient. Fortunately I am no longer either.

If you have to take meds for mental health, stay away from them as they don't want to cover them. I have been taking the same meds for 20 years, and just switched to Express Scripts. the prescription was called in 2 weeks ago, and today I found out that Express Scripts does zero follow up on prescription submissions, and zero follow up with their client so they can follow up on their own. I have not had my meds for 3 days, and now they are saying 8-10 business days to review a very common anti-depressant/anti-anxiety medication.
Anyone who suffers from depression or anxiety know that this can cause extremely horrifying effects, and this company apparently does not believe mental health issues are a real thing. They don't think these medications are necessary. If you are looking to use Express Scripts as an employee benefit, steer clear if you believe that mental health issues are real, and not some make believe construct. Insurance companies should not be anti-science. Facts.

My experience with Express Scripts has been nothing short of frustrating. From Day 1 in 2 years, it has been a nightmare dealing with them. Every prescription has been an issue. Customer Service is virtually non-existent. I continually receive conflicting information. My providers also have issues. Apparently, patient health needs are not a priority. Prior authorizations are a nightmare. Continually receive denials. Express Scripts also has incorrect information on me that is impossible to correct. Denials are usually based on the incorrect information. Would never recommend Express Scripts to anyone.

It's unlikely your prescriptions will be filled or shipped on time. Then when you contact customer service they are NO help and even lied to me. Our insurance switched us to this service in January and it's been a headache ever since.

If I could give these careless incompetent people a zero I would. My husband is diabetic. I placed an order on 3/6. Still not here. No reason. Was not processed. Was assured by 2 supervisors it would be overnighted. This morning it's in Kentucky going regular DHL. They keep offering to let me speak to a pharmacist. No accountability. No competence. They should be sued and put out of business immediately. These are medications they are playing with!

I've been trying to have a prescription transferred to Express Scripts for several days. I've spent many HOURS already on the phone with their customer service reps who don't seem to understand or aren't trained well enough to know that when they take ownership of prescriptions they are obligated to contact the former pharmacy. Express Scripts does not provide any kind of form or information to its patients about how to transfer prescriptions, and when I called (multiple times) for help they pointed the finger back at my old pharmacy and told me to call them and have them call Express Scripts.
Pharmacies will not and cannot transfer prescriptions without talking to the pharmacy that is taking ownership. Why Express Scripts is telling patients to do this leg work themselves is baffling, one pharmacist I spoke with used the word "shocking." I've already poured 5 hours of my time into something that should be a simple request and haven't gotten any further. I will not be using Express Scripts going forward even if it saves me money -- it's just an awful customer service experience from start to finish and they won't take responsibility for anything. Their practice in this regard feels like it should be illegal if it isn't already.

Express Scripts has a responsibility to send prescriptions in a timely manner - They fail miserably! They do not fill prescriptions timely, they use the cheapest postage which can take 10 to 14 days. I am still waiting two weeks after fill date. Summary: They are late to fill Rx on refills, take their time sending out critical drugs using insufficient postage. Therefore critical prescriptions arrive extremely late, if at all. Twice I Never received my prescriptions. Critical medications are NOT treated with proper lead time or sufficient postage to arrive when needed. And they make excuses trying to shift responsibility. That adds to the frustration and stress. Express Scripts is a shamefully inept operation. Each person you speak with tells a different story. That suggests someone is not telling the truth. Cigna is the insurance company that controls/owns Express.

For the past four months—since I switched to Express Scripts—they have failed to deliver my prescription on time. All I asked, after talking to a supervisor, is that they deliver my prescription before I run out of my medication. Apparently, that proved to be too difficult a task, even though I had my prescription in their system way ahead of the scheduled fill date. If you don’t care if you run out of medication every month, then use Express Scripts. Otherwise, I suggest you find other ways to fill your prescriptions.

I spent a lot of time searching online for the best deal on my medication, and finally settled with Express scripts, who had my prescription for $115 for a 3-month supply. I asked several times for the 3 month supply, and received only one month, for $45. When I finally arranged to have the other 2 months worth delivered, the price was $560. It just said my order would be delivered in a few days. Luckily, I was able to notice and cancel before the sent it.
When I called they first tried saying it was because I hadn't met my deductible. I told them I just got a 30 day supply 5 days ago for $45. Then they just said, "Well the prices of medication fluctuate." Yeah, I'll say. Basically I got my prescription set up, they sent the wrong amount, then, magically, the cost of my medication went up immediately after my first order, by almost 1000%. No notice, no warning. Just started to send my order. I guess the third week of January is when their price increases kick in? Seems like a weird time for that to happen. This place should not be allowed to exist.

I have been on the phone with Express Scripts and Cigna Medicare on 6 occasions in the past 30 days, 4 just today holding in some capacity for 4 hours. My physician mailed a prescription to an address given to him and after 10 days I had not received my medication. Today I called Express Scripts, who transferred me to Cigna who transferred me to Cigna Medicare who transfered me back to Express Scripts. After explaining my situation on numerous occasions, sometimes twice to the same individual, I received 4 different addresses where prescriptions should be mailed. Nevertheless, I am without my medication and it looks like I will need to obtain it at a local pharmacy for a much higher price. I completed a complaint with the organization and will complain to Medicare. I can't wait until October to sign up with another pharmacy benefit provider. This reminded of the Keystone cops.

I have been dealing with Express scripts since January 11 trying to get my scripts delivered. Literally I have been on the phone with them at least ten times and I still don’t have my medicine. Now apparently it is lost in the mail and no one wants to be responsible. I have spoken to USPS numerous times as I did with express scripts. No one seems to know a thing about where the meds are. Now express scripts is telling me I can wait 30 days and they can fill them again for a charge or fill them now using my remaining refills! None of the options are reasonable! I have important medicine to be delivered and they take it as if it’s not a problem! It is a problem because I need those meds!
I will be taking my business somewhere else. The supervisor informed me of that when speaking with him saying, "If you're not happy you can take your business somewhere else!" I will be doing that and you will be losing me and everyone I tell as to how poor a job express scripts does for their customers!! So stinking frustrated!!!

My name is Claudia **. I was doing great in terms of communication and receiving medical supplies through my insurance before they decide to join forces with Express Scripts. It has been four months and I have not been able to get my supplies. They will sometimes answer their phones but do not have the brain capacity to understand the patient. They have no concern what you need. If you are ill and are in desperate need of any medication to save your life do not use Express Scripts. Their sole purpose is to frustrate you.
