My local pharmacies do not have my husband's medication in stock, and he is never able to get it filled when needed. We were happy to find out that Express Scripts keeps this medication stocked, however every month since we have been getting it filled here, I have had to call every day for at least a week to ask the same questions, 1. Can it be overnighted? and 2. Can it be expedited because he ran out of his 30 day supply? The script was sent over on 3/13 and it is now 3/21 and I spoke to someone for at least 30 minutes every day since it was sent over and I still have no idea when they are going to send it out. Dealing with this company is very frustrating because no one knows what is truly going on and you cannot get a straight answer, even when asking for a manager. They also tell me that I need to get an emergency stock from a local pharmacy, but our local pharmacy does not have it.

Forced to use them by insurance. They are sending refills that I did not order, do not need and of course can't return but are billed for. They repeatedly deny one of my meds and I have to appeal every year. They make it so much harder than any of it needs to be. They want to mail out antibiotics and inhalers as if they are not needed right away. Hold times are ridiculous and customer service is lacking at best. No one there has the authority to make any decisions and you are played the pass around game every time. I know I am stuck with them but I have to say if you can avoid them do so.

I sent in a refill online, and the site stated it would be delivered on March 15th. This date comes and goes, and still no medication has been delivered. Mind you, the medication is for migraines. Express Scripts cannot resend my medication, they won't refund my $20, AND I have to call a local pharmacy to have them to call Express Scripts to fill the prescription for me, and I'll have to pay out of pocket again! This is a very poor business. They're supposed to be taking care of their Service Members, families, and Veterans, but I don't see it that way. Now I am stuck without my much needed migraine medication until who knows when! Hopefully, the local pharmacy will be able to transfer the prescription and fill it without charging me an arm and a leg! I see my Neurologist next week and I'm going to ask him to switch my medication to a different pharmacy! No more Express Scripts for me!

What happens when your employer mandates a provider? The provider can be horrible because they know you can't go anywhere else unless you pay exorbitant prices. Express Scripts is so terrible that I am considering paying out of network pricing so my family no longer is forced to use this company. Customer service is not empowered to help you. I've been overcharged for meds and then have to call for a refund. At least I get the refunds but do not get back the 30-60 minutes of my life that it takes to make things right. The customer knows more than their agents do. If you can avoid using Express Scripts and still pay your rent or mortgage, I encourage it.

Express Scripts is the worst company in the United States to get your prescriptions filled. The very first prescription that is filled, is normally fast. After the first refill, they have taken an average of 2 weeks to complete and ship a prescription. Evan if they have it in stock, it still takes them 2 weeks to complete your order. I highly recommend that no one uses Express Scripts to fill any medication. Trust me, it is easier to get your medications locally.

Unfortunately, I have two accounts with this Express Scripts, which is not a choice but enrolled as NYC retiree. My prescriptions went to the limited coverage account, most were cancelled instead account with broad coverage. I have called many times to have this problem fix, have been given different stories to being told transfer of prescriptions was done and will send medications via express mailing which never happened. I am left with none of some of my medications. No phone calls were made to me of prescriptions being cancelled or transfer of prescriptions to the account didn't go through, that I will not be getting medications I needed. No one had called me also for bad reviews made to further investigate or show willingness to correct poor customer satisfaction.

My local pharmacies have issues stocking my medication so because my insurance company prefers Express Scripts, I made the switch. The first order had some delay issues which made me nervous, but the issues seemed ironed out. I received my prescription and then it came consistently for a couple of months. Last month, express scripts cancelled my order due to a supply issue. Every week, I tried contacting them, but my calls kept being disconnected so I used the online chat. Every time I thought I was getting a resolution for my prescription to be filled, it would be disconnected. In my opinion (and original understanding), this company should automatically contact a customer regarding out of stock medication when it becomes available. I should not have to chase the pharmacy that I have chosen to give my business to about stocking issues. I am not psychic so how would I know when to call.

The process is just as frustrating and abysmal as it was with local pharmacies and when the prescription is shopping as it ought to everything is fine, but what I thought might be a one week delay in a prescription that keeps me safe.& healthy has turned into a month and they need to do better. I don't know if it is their phone system, chat code, or other issues, but being disconnected over and over on top of the frustration of the issue is unacceptable. It should not take hours of my time to do something that should be happening when my doctor sends a prescription and the pharmacy receives it. I'm supposed to receive it and pay, not play detective and psychic.

Where to begin, we were forced to switch this company after our insurance stopped taking Smiths. It's been ridiculous to put it nicely. I have fought with them for multiple days straight trying to get them to fill a prescription. A controlled substance for a child to be specific. The most recent...they started processing the order on February 1st. We didn't get the medication until February 13th. (Almost 2 weeks) that is 2 weeks without a medication. Then the next prescription comes to fill March 2nd. They cancel the order stating supply issues. I call and find out what dosage they have in stock and call our doctor to send in a different prescription.

We are now March 6th because of weekends and turn around time. They cancel again because payment hadn't been made so I call on the 6th and make the payment. They put it back in processing. I get a text on March 7th order cancelled. Call in they manually push it through to processing... March 8th get another text canceled again. Call in they don't know why so they manually push it again. March 9th same thing. March 10th I finally demand to speak with a supervisor. They request it to be pushed again and 1 day shipping. March 11th check the app and there is nothing in processing. Call in and the supervisor says they don't know why and that it is in processing on their end. They are full of excuses and no answers. I would bet my salary that I will get another cancelation and another round of excuses. Mail order pharmacies should not even be a thing if they can't fill prescriptions AND get them out in time.

Customer service acted like being on medication was my fault. They couldn't be bothered. First, they are my script plan administrator as well as a pharmacy....so that's a conflict....When I tried to use my preferred provider, the price magically tripled. $20 went to $60. But only because I was using my insurance. Second when I tried to get approval for non-generic meds they declined (even though generics cause a serious side effect that I have well-documented). Third, they received my files from another claim administrator and promptly lost them so customer service told me to get the approval process started. I had just received approval from the other admin for a year's worth. I called my doc and they started the process over.

ES kept asking for fax numbers...What? No one uses fax.. but it was a convenient excuse .. They told me they could not do anything without a fax number. I guess they can't call my prescriber either? So I gave in and ordered my meds through them. I don't have the time to go through this. It took two months for them to fill the order. And despite entering payment info at the time of the order they keep sending me collections notices. It's like they can't do anything properly. They can't save records, they can't bill, they can't remember if you've paid and they just can't be bothered. I'm actually complaining to my HR. 4000 1 star reviews? I wish I had known....but BCBS shifted to them without asking our input and BCBS won't accept complaints.

Every time I come to this place the workers and the manger Chris is very nonchalant and rude. No good customer service at all. Answer questions very rudely and walk off. Every time I come for an oil change they never have a filter for my car. The last time they told me if I go but the filter they’ll give me something off. $5 off and the filter was $13 plus the gas it took me to get there. The workers are rude and think it’s funny when you’re treated rude. Since the manager really don’t want to perform a tedious task of refilling coolant he always finds a reason why his workers doesn’t have to or can’t stop. 2 cars go before a 2 minute job of pouring coolant? “Oil changes first?” Wow. I told him my coolant light was on and I didn’t feel safe pulling off. Well you’ll have to wait nearly 30-40 minutes after 2 oil changes. Please work on your all customer service skills. Don’t take your bad days out on the customers.

Then Even made a smart remark after I nicely said, "I feel like every time I come here I get treated rudely." “Well you need to see why you need coolant so often.” Then walked off. Don’t even know a loyal customer but I remember him from every time I come get a oil change. I come here for the convenience but I think I’ll be more than willing to drive a few miles down from now on. This furthers my anxiety and very embarrassing. I’m definitely reporting this to the BBB and Consumer affairs.

Despite requesting to speak with a supervisor, they outright refuse to engage with me. To top it off, they abruptly hang up the phone without resolving my issue. As a result, I'm unable to refill my prescription, leaving me without medication for a whole week—this is incredibly frustrating. Even when I asked them to override the system and allow my local pharmacy to provide a few days' supply, they adamantly refused. Dealing with their customer service is beyond irritating; it seems like they're either intentionally causing these problems or are simply incompetent.

I gave them a second chance hoping the long processing time was due to being a new customer.. Nope.... Still currently 10+ days stuck in just processing status.. Whenever it does ship, it will be at least another 2-3 days. If running out of a medication will cause you problems.. DO NOT USE THEM.

I can NOT take a generic form of this medication-**. It is my heart medication and keeps me from forming clots. I've had 5 heart attacks. She said it would be shipped it 3-5 business days. Monday comes and nothing so I call. Well they bumped my order out and sent Dr a fax trying to force him to sign a generic med for Mr. He replied "She can't take generic. I've made pre authorization until year 2039!". Ok they said we'll get it filled and ship overnight.

On the 14th I had 10 days of meds left. Tues comes nothing I call back. They are filling Generic!!! I said NO! CANCEL THAT! Again go through ALL the same info, this time I talk to supervisor AND pharmacist with my Wellcare rep on phone also. Ok they got it all straightened out. Filling that day and shipping overnight. Wednesday repeat, Thursday repeat, Friday repeat, Saturday repeat. And NO MEDS!!! I HAVE SPENT 9 HOURS AND 38 MINUTES ON THE PHONE WITH THEM!! I CANNOT not take this med. No one in Oregon can get it hence why I had to switch that one med to CVS (they were great).

Wellcare switched to Express Scripts in Jan. Horrible, horrible outfit. Every single person is like a trained robot saying exactly the same practiced script. I have everything documented Wellcare reps on phone during conversations stating the seriousness of me not having this medication. Faxes from my Cardiologist stating those same facts- "she can NOT be without this medication". They will most likely see a lawsuit. DO NOT use them if you don't have to. If your Medicare Part D plan uses them complain and ask them to find you a different mail order. If this has happened to me I am sure it's happened to thousands trying to get their meds filled with Express Scripts. If I die I hope they feel the weight on their shoulders

Since the switch only 8 months of using their service I was charged 3 times the amount for on medication that I would of paid way less at a local pharmacy. The company's pharmacists choose what manufacturer's to mail out so because of this issue I have had nothing but health complications and having to visit the ER due to the wrong manufacturer of my heart medication and suffered a hemiplegic migraine.

So I had to go to the ER for relief that they can only give with this type of migraine attack. Was on the phone for over 57 minutes explaining I need to be in the ER but they kept me on the phone, everything was hold on. The employees must work in a call center outside of the US due to the lack of understanding and grammar with the pharmacists and customer service agents. I've been trying to get my prescripts refilled since 2/3 and I'm now out of medication. My insurance switched to Express Scripts so I couldn't continue getting fills from Fred Meyer Pharmacy. On 2/3 it took a bunch of calls back and forth between Fred Meyer and Express scripts because Express refused to call the pharmacist at Fred Meyer in order to transfer the Rx over to them. Finally they said they would expedite a phone call to them in order to get it transferred. I also explained that I was running out of meds and that I wanted to pay extra for 2 day shipping. Then I decided to look online at my order on 2/8 - still processing so I emailed them. They told me to call member services because asking for an update on the process was considered a clinical question that only pharmacists could answer and pharmacists don't email. I call and they said it's still in process.

I look online again on 2/12 and It showed as cancelled at my request. I did not at all cancel. So I called and they said that Fred Meyer had sent them a blank Rx so they cancelled the entire order without notifying me at all. 2/16 I call and they said it's now in process again and will be delivered over the weekend. I also email and the response I get via email on 2/19 is that it won't be shipped out until 2/21. It's 2/20 and I'm completely out of meds with no idea when I will be getting my order. I've been trying to get my meds for weeks now. Customer service has been ridiculous. I've been given very different information from every person I've talked to via email or phone. I have a debilitating neuromuscular disorder that I now have to figure out how to make it through work without very necessary meds. There was a message left on our phone to call regarding signing up for Auto Delivery. I thought I already had it. I tried to sign in to my account and could not get my password to work. I tried entering date of birth, social security number as ID, but nothing worked. I then called a service #. Talked to one representative and she said she was not experienced with what I needed, transferred me to 2nd rep. She was pleasant also but... could only provide me with a member # (This # did not appear on any of my cards or paperwork). She said they did not do Auto Delivery (?).

I dialed a second # which could not help. I finally called the # on the medication label. This time I was connected to a lady who was able to get me into the account. She said I already had auto delivery on 2 meds. She set it up for the 3rd med. This took me the better part of the day. The last lady was very calm, found the problem, and got me into the account. Not sure what the difficulty is, but it certainly was frustrating. Hopefully if I need to access online account it will work.

I have struggled with my weight for years. I have tried so many weight loss plans including Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem, Optavia, **, and Noom to name a few. I am 65 years old, 6 feet tall, and weighed 271 pounds. I also have an afib heart. After consulting my primary care physician and cardiologist, I was prescribed ** in December, 2023. I didn’t want to take any of the diabetic medications which have become popular weight loss meds. I am not pre diabetic and was concerned with the effects they can have on the pancreas. When my doctor sent the prescription to my pharmacy, my Medicare Advantage prescription plan was CVS Care. This plan has always been amazing and went above and beyond to take care of all of my prescription needs.

I picked up my first month’s supply of 2.5 mg injection pens ($50 copay). The pharmacy said there was also a one-month supply of 7.5 mg pens which would be returned if I did not take those also, which I did (another $50 copay). I took my first dose on January 3, 2024. In my opinion, this is a miracle drug! After taking all four 2.5 mg doses, I discussed using the 7.5 mg supply. 5 mg dosage should have been my second step, but somehow the prescription was submitted for 2.5 and 7.5. She said to try it and discontinue if I had any negative side effects, which I didn’t experience.

Meanwhile, my Medicare Advantage prescription plan switched to Express Scripts. This change has been a nightmare. Their “Customer Service” and their supervisors were extremely rude and said that Express Scripts does not cover ANY weight loss medications. I find this to be ludicrous and extremely concerning when considering the obesity epidemic in this country. The cash amount for a one-month supply is $1,200+. Even Good RX is over $1,000 per month. The $550 that Eli Lilly might provide it for would be a hardship. My wife and I are retired teachers, and because I am over 65 and on Medicare, I don’t qualify for the $25 Savings Card from Eli Lilly. This is so disappointing.

As of this morning, I have been on ** for 7 weeks. I also exercise and have changed my eating habits. I HAVE LOST 35 POUNDS!!! I still need to lose at least 35 more pounds. Because Express Scripts will not cover **, I find it highly unlikely that this will happen, and ultimately I will at some time be diagnosed as diabetic. They will then have to cover diabetic medications which I am trying to avoid. This is such a travesty. If given then choice of prescription plans, do not use Express Scripts.

More waiting, more botched refills, more anxiety, when I used to walk to a pharmacy and pick up my order the next day. I am new to Express Scripts this year. The pricing sounded too good. I have one medication that was transferred somehow and have received. I tried to transfer another online and could not figure the process out. Therefore, I called customer service. When they finally came on the line it took me nearly 15 minutes to get a straight answer that I cannot transfer a prescription, that still has refills, through their online system from another pharmacy to them.

Also, during this phone call, the customer service agent raised his voice to me more than once and kept telling me he had told me. I can hear well but he did not explain, he double talked telling me THEY had called and gotten my previous prescription. I asked how their procedure went since I am new and want to transfer current prescriptions. Never a straight answer. So, I informed him I will do it the old fashion way and contact each individual doctor to fax a new prescription to this company each time. He said yes. Finally, this could have been so much simpler with better communication. Sadly, it was such a simple online procedure with the previous online pharmacy I used; but their costs went up too much. I hope this gets easier so I do not have to call in again.

Nobody at ExpressScripts Canada speaks English. Well they do, but a) accent is so thick it's hard to understand and b) there's obviously a cultural difference that creates misunderstanding with the simplest things. They were to contact my doctor for a refill. Said they did several times. I'm friends with the receptionist - no they didn't. It's an important medication. After 5 months, I'll pay the extra 10% (my insurance company covers 80% at local pharmacy, 90% through ESC), so I can at least communicate AND get my medication.

I switched insurance recently and Express Scripts is our preferred pharmacy. First off, always add at least 1-2 weeks to the ETAs. I've waited over a month for extremely important medications. Also, if they are schedule II, like certain painkillers. It will be difficult to get a local pharmacy Refill if it's already on order. I don't know why they just don't give legitimate ETAs. When calling, you will receive all sorta of information. In my experience, most of it will be incorrect. Just remember.... there is nothing "Express" about Express Scripts.

I have been a Type 1 Diabetic for years and have never experienced problems with getting life saving medication as I have with this incompetent group. Every single time I have spoken with Customer Service I have gotten different responses on what needs to be done to get through the pre-authorization process just to get insulin or Dexcom sensors and transmitter. I do not understand why ANY type of insulin that a doctor prescribes you would be considered not covered. Each type of insulin and brand works differently in an individual's body in regards to blood sugar control so do you not think a dr and patient knows better than some 90 day supply company? I was only given two choices to use. The generic form of ** which by the way a lot of generic medication even though they have the same primary component in them do not work the same as the brand name.

** does not work well for me and I was not as in control with my diabetes even using an insulin pump. Or an insulin that I had never even heard of before and when I looked it up it was not even FDA approved for usage in an insulin pump. Which my doctor would have known but I guess this company knows better than a physician. I am really considering complaining to my representative about the process and this company for restrictions on life saving medications. So you go though the preauthorization process and it takes weeks to get things pushed through.

When you call you get told they do not send anything to the doctor in order to facilitate the process after a prescription is placed. Unless a local pharmacy gets the prescription and then they send a form to the doctor for preapproval which baffles me why Express Scripts would not do that as they require this. It then takes weeks to get this pushed through. Last time for my Dexcom sensors the hold up I was told was they were waiting on determination if I was diabetic. Really? No, I just put myself through having an insulin pump and taking insulin over 30 years for nothing. And as I have been forced to use this prescription service through my employer for several years they would have record of me ordering this during that time frame. I guess they can not bother themselves to verify their own records.

I finally got a customer service rep to tell me that their is a number for the dr's office to call but they do not provide that to the physicians upfront when a prescription comes in or a prescription request is sent to them. Why is this? To once again prolong the time period to get medications? Medication to once again prevent harm or even death without taking them? This really is unacceptable!

One bottle of insulin without using insurance is close to 300 dollars and a family might not be able to afford that in case of an emergency situation such as this. You guys should be ashamed or yourself for preventing retrieval of medications that could dramatically affect someone’s health and well being. If my employer did not require you I would NEVER use you. But I guess you are the cheaper option for them and I guess with less money spent you get what you get. It angers me that you would prevent this for those of us suffering with chronic illnesses that will not go away and are only controlled through daily intake of medications. Shame on you!

I can't even begin to describe the absolute nightmare that this company has put me through. The stress they've caused me is off the charts. After nearly a YEAR of dissatisfaction I finally filed a claim after multiple follow-up calls about my medication that has been stuck in processing for 10 days (in the past, it’s been 2+ months). And what do they do? They won't even admit that it's not in stock, they just keep saying it's in processing. Like, come on, can you be any more unhelpful? This makes it nearly impossible for me to get another prescription from my doctor and find a different pharmacy. It's like they're deliberately trying to make my life that much more difficult.

But wait, it gets better. During one of my delightful conversations with a customer service rep (who I've had the pleasure of speaking with countless times before because my medication is always ridiculously delayed), this genius decides to tell me she knows my place of work. She straight up asks me to confirm that I work at (insert job here). What kind of invasive nonsense is that? Now I’ve been in the customer service realm, and I understand that 90% of complaints may be out of their control. But what I’ve experienced with Express Scripts has reached has reached a whole new level of insanity.

I’ve called them at least 20 times over the past 10 months, politely inquiring about their glacial-pace processing and their garbage generic products that wouldn’t even show up on a urine test, and never once has anyone asked me about my place of work. So, naturally, when I question her about it, she clams up and refuses to give me an answer. When I bring up my concerns to the manager, she apologizes and admits that the question was inappropriate. But that's where it ended. No real action taken, just a templated apology.

When I requested the employee's ID to file a formal complaint, she conveniently "forgets" to give it to me. The manager then offers to "assist" me with escalating my prescription. Well, it’s been 6 days since then, and I still haven't received my prescription. Really top-notch service they’ve got going on here. So, naturally, I take matters into my own hands and file the complaint online. And what do I get in response? A generic reply saying they'll file it with my account and that's it. No follow-up, no details, just a big fat middle finger to my concerns. This company has access to our private information, and just expect us to be okay with the consistent misuse of it. Unbelievable, but all considered, not surprising.

At this point, I have absolutely zero faith in Express Scripts. My personal information is clearly not safe with them. That customer service rep clearly thought she had the right to intimidate and invade my privacy by revealing she knew my workplace. How is that relevant to filling a simple prescription? And don't even get me started on the quality of their medications. I swear, the junk they've sent me in the past might as well be placebo pills. Someone needs to investigate their so-called "medicine."

My three-month prescription is still floating somewhere in the abyss either in, around or outside of their shipping center in St. Louis, for all I know, according to the tracking #. Not only are they incompetent, invasive, and dismissive, they can't even get their shipping right, but were happy to take my money when I asked for it to be expedited. I couldn’t even imagine if I needed something like insulin from these people. Bravo, Express Scripts. Your spot right next to the rest of these big pharmaceutical tyrants has been cemented and well-deserved. I look forward to this class action lawsuit.

I was prescribed a new medication and my insurance company recommended Express Scripts to save money. It has been a month-long nightmare. I needed a pre-authorization and that came through right away. Then they needed some questions answered by my doc, but never sent them the form. So that took another week. I don’t expect my doctor to drop everything right away for a form! My doctor sent over a 3-month prescription, Express Scripts put it in as 28 days. Then cancelled the order, I called and was told it had to be more than 35 35-day prescription. So their screw-up cost me another week. Then they required the doctor to send an entirely new prescription. Why? The original one they had was correct! Finally, it seemed like everything was in order.

Today I see on the app it’s “delayed”. They need to speak to my doctor. So again I called and inquired as to why. They said, they need more info from my doctor to see if it will work safely for me in this case. WHAT??? They had the pre-auth with ALL of the necessary info on it, that my insurance saw and approved, they had the script from my doc. Who the hell are they to determine that my doctor, THAT KNOWS ME, could perhaps be wrong in prescribing me this. Or my insurance approving me because I meet the criteria could be wrong in approving this. Express Scripts is supposed to fill the orders and send them on their way. Who the hell are they to need more clarity that I actually need it? Who are they to play doctor in determining what is best for my medical care? I wish I had done more research before using them and see they have TERRIBLE reviews. Not worth the 40 bucks I would have saved.

They flat-out refused to approve the medications I've depended on for so long, opting instead for a cheaper alternative with unpleasant side effects. What's even more frustrating is that they've approved my medication before. While it's been a battle in the past, they've eventually come around. But this time, they're standing firm.

Even after my doctor spent considerable time advocating on my behalf, they wouldn't budge, simply directing us to their complaint department. Now, I'm faced with the daunting prospect of having to spend over $1,000 just to maintain my health because they've left me in a precarious situation. It's not just about the financial strain; it's also about feeling overlooked and undervalued as a long-time customer genuinely in need. Considering my history with them, I doubt sharing my experience will lead to a resolution. I think they will dismiss it as a mere "complaint". My hope is that one day, Express Scripts will recognize that every shared experience on this platform is not a "complaint". Rather it's a plea from their customers for understanding and assistance. And honestly, writing this negative review is a first for me. I never imagined I'd have to resort to this, but the frustration has reached a boiling point.

Express Scrips is one of the worst and most crooked insurance companies out there and no surprise given they are owned by Cigna - another of the worst. Also no surprise they are in the middle of a lawsuit and scandal. I hope it is enough to get them put out of business so that my prescription coverage can change. Government oversight into their practices at the very least. And this is why I feel this way: My doctor prescribed specific medication for a specific reason. Express Scrips thought they knew more about me and my health than my physician and refused to pay for this medication until I took older, outdated medication to prove that the cheaper option does not work for me. Surprise, surprise - it does not work and I will have to do a 'full trial' through a specific time period determined by Express Scrips, not my physician, before I can even try to get the original medication paid for.

They refused to pay for a GENERIC medication just because there is an older generic medication in the same classification that works differently and is cheaper. This is why health care in the United States is so appalling and people cannot get the care they need. Health care is being driven by what insurance companies will pay for, not what the individual needs to maintain their health and wellbeing. WHY IS NO ONE OVERSEEING THIS OR PAYING ATTENTION?? If there is a medication prescribed by a licensed physician for a specific diagnosis, there should not be any question about coverage. Even my state's Medicaid pays for this medication. Why does Express scripts get to do this? How is this legal and justifiable?

I had had a bad experience with Express Scripts a number of years ago, so had stopped using them. But as they were my only option to use in order to get a 3-month prescription, I had no choice but to try them again recently when I was to be going on a long trip that would require me to need more than 1 month of medicine at a time. My biggest concern with Express Scripts in the past was that they shipped using the US Postal Service. In addition to the fact that the postal service in our area is unreliable as well as mailboxes being prone to theft, I also have major concerns about my prescription medications sitting in a hot mailbox for hours... so I wanted my meds shipped via a door-to-door delivery service rather than USPS. This shouldn't be an issue...and I was willing to pay extra for this.

My original 3 month supply was ordered, using what I was told would be a service other than USPS. It took longer than expected to arrive, and arrived via...you guessed it...the USPS, left in my mailbox. When it came time to reorder, I decided to do so via telephone so that I could make sure that my request was crystal clear...that I needed my meds shipped via a carrier other than the USPS, and one that would deliver to my door rather than leaving a package in my mailbox. The first customer service agent I spoke to was stumped by this request, and "couldn't find" the list that showed different shipping options.

Completely incompetent and unable to figure out what should be a basic request, she said she needed to transfer me to another department. She did so, and after waiting about 15 minutes on hold on what seemed to be a dead end line (no hold music or any other indication that I'd actually been transferred to a live department), I hung up. I called Express Scripts back and got a different customer service agent.

This one actually seemed to understand my request, and stated that she didn't understand why the previous agent "couldn't find" the list of alternate carriers and their costs, as she had it right there in front of her. I was very clear in stating my reasons for wanting a service other than USPS; I let her know that while I wasn't in a specific rush, and thus didn't need the Rx expedited, I DID need it to be shipped by a door-to-door carrier such as FedEx or UPS. She told me this was no problem and that there would be an $18 charge for this shipping upgrade, which I agreed to.

I then asked her which shipping service they'd be using...she said she wasn't sure...but confirmed that they would definitely NOT ship it through the postal service. Soooo...my package from Express Scripts arrived today and guess what...wait for it...it arrived via USPS, in a plastic bag shoved in my mailbox. Unbelievable! I spent around 45 minutes dealing with Express Scripts solely about this ONE issue...shipping carrier...and they still managed to screw it up...and charge me $18 to do so. The utter incompetence of this company is shocking.

They literally have only ONE job... ship out prescriptions... and they can't get it right. This really is not rocket science... I have a prescription through another mail order service and they have NO PROBLEM shipping to me through non-USPS carriers... They get it right every single time... as opposed to Express Scripts, which is now zero for two with me. Fool me once, shame on you... fool me twice, shame on me. I will most definitely NOT be using Express Scripts mail order again.

With 5 of us in our family, we receive several letters EACH MONTH from Express Scripts, suggesting we switch our prescriptions to their mail order service. They clearly spend a significant amount on this excessive marketing material. Given that they have an average of 1 out of 5 stars reviews on this site, it sure seems their money would be much better spent hiring and training competent people who could do their job correctly, rather than on marketing materials. Do better, Express Scripts.

My daughter has been provided the diabetic meds and supplies that she requires. It is a shame that it takes involving a congressmen (who happens to be on the Armed Services Committee) to get the issue resolved. I will say that additional issues have arisen (sensors shipped but not received) that Express Scripts resolved in a prompt and professional manner. If the other issues had been handled like this past one they would receive a five-star rating.

    Original Review: Jan. 23, 2024

I have to fight to get life saving medications to treat my daughter's type 1 diabetes. I am thankful that Congressman Banks helped resolve one of three issues I have experienced. I have had to buy needles from an online diabetic supply store when Express Scripts cancelled a script that they "did not have". I had to contact the Endocrinologist office to have the script changed, one would think that they could have substituted to begin with. I had to rely on handouts from the Endocrinologist for 30 days worth of Dexcom G6 while Express Scripts put hurdles in place through their prior authorization process. It took Congressman Banks to get this resolved.

Now that the script was moved into their hands vs a local pharmacy we are down to one Dexcom and our order sits in processing status. I phoned on 18 January and was assured that it would ship as early as 19 January. I just got off of the phone late on 22 January because it still says processing and was told that the estimated ship date is 23 Jan with 7 day shipping. The life saving insulin that was transferred to Express Scripts was listed for 15ml. They shipped a vial of 10ml and stated that the could not meet the requirement and would not send more than was prescribed somehow believing that it is better to short an eleven year old her medication than to ship an extra 5ml. This company is a national embarrassment but has been chosen to support our service members. If I knew that this was my reward for my 21 years of service I might have chosen another path.

I needed a prescription for Vyvance, which is a controlled substance and Express Scripts will only pay for the generic. The generic is not available anywhere around me so on Jan 3 I had the doc call it in for mail order. I had 14 left at that point. Long story short, the first person put the info in incorrectly so I was never going to get the Rx. I found that out when I called to see where it was on 1/10. They said they would expedite it. When I didn’t get it four days later I called again. There was an issue with my debit card. I confirmed the info and thought they put it in and I’d get the medication the following week. When I didn’t, I called again and it still had not been ordered! Today is 1/19. I asked my doctor to change the Rx to something I can get locally because the mail order is inefficient and worthless. Their solution was to speak to a pharmacist to learn the effects of missed doses. I know the effects, I’m living with it! If you can avoid this company, by all means, find another way!

The fact that insurance companies force us to deal with mail order pharmacies has been a disgrace and a terrible disservice to consumers. It always takes forever to get medication and there are always gaps. My poor child has to keep going on and off medications which is very destabilizing because the medications never arrive on time. And it's like a full-time job staying on top of the medication and trying to order it just in time. You can't order it too early because insurance won't pay for it but by the time you're able to order it it arrives too late. And I have like three pharmacies within walking distance but getting the medications there costs a fortune. What a terrible and shameful system. I spend hours and hours of my life on the phone with this company.

They refused to tell me that they could ship it out on Thursday so that I could have it Friday. They lied and said that they overnighted it. That’s not the case because it was still gonna be two days before I could get it before they even delayed it. All you get from these people are excuses and that they can’t do nothing about what they should do or could do. This is the worst pharmacy I have ever dealt with in my life. Two orders. I've spent the better part of my morning on the phone with 6 different Express Scripts representatives. The 1st one, Aubrey, was in training and didn't know how to execute a refill. He cold transferred me to Donna. She was able to fill one of my kids' Rx before she erroneously transferred me to someone in the Tricare dept. Neither that new rep nor I knew why. 7 minutes later she was still trying to figure out who to transfer me to. I chose to hang up and call back in.

I was on hold for 17 mins when the doorbell rang. I hung up and called back and got another new hire who could only see that one Rx was in process but couldn't see any other pending Rx for my child. I asked her to help refill cartridges and sensors for another child's insulin pump and CGM. She said sure she could help and asked if that was the thing called Humalog...no, that's insulin and we have plenty. I'm on hold, 19 minutes into this call while she is looking for someone to help. Still on hold, 24 mins now.

That's just today's scenario. Yesterday, I spent nearly 2 hrs on the phone regarding my one Rx. On Jan 11th, an ES rep called to tell me the auth had been approved and the Rx would be shipped shortly. I've been awaiting this auth since Nov. The next day I got an email stating the Rx would arrive by Jan 20th. Friday, I got an email stating they couldn't fill the Rx. No reason given. Apparently ES no longer fills Rx ordered for less than 35 days. The folks working there didn't even know, hence no mention of it during the phone call on the 11th or the email that followed. No one there reached out to my MD to get a longer Rx nor did anyone call me like they did to tell me it was approved?! They lack skilled cust svc reps, follow through, accountability and integrity. I hate that I am tied to this Rx vendor via our employer group health plan. I feel like we are all at risk having to use them. Oh, and by the way, still on hold now 32 plus minutes

My family has been using Express Scripts for years - not by choice, but because my employer's medical plan requires it for maintenance drugs. Both my wife and I have chronic conditions that require multiple medications to treat, and we rely on these drugs to survive. By and large, Express Scripts had a history of processing reasonably fast and delivering reliably. This has all changed in the last 6 months or so. For starters, they now frequently use a delivery method that entails having DHL do the "long haul" shipping and handing it off to the USPS for the local delivery.

On two separate occasions now, my medicine has been "lost" in the handoff between DHL and USPS. In both cases, DHL insisted it had been handed off to USPS, and USPS insisted they were waiting for the handoff. In both cases, Express Scripts made this MY problem to resolve. This never happens/happened when shipments come through a reliable shipper like UPS or FedEx. This is people's HEALTH here - shipping needs to be reliable, and when it DOES break down, someone needs to be accountable. It is unacceptable.

Now then, recently, on top of these problems, fulfillment times have gone through the roof. These are IN HOUSE delays, not shipping. In the past, when a prescription was received by Express Scripts, it was filled, typically, within 3 days at MOST, and sometimes quicker. As of right now, my family has FIFTEEN prescriptions waiting to be filled, some of them now two weeks old, with no sign of being filled. They have been in a "processing" status for weeks. When you call to inquire, the "customer service" agents simply say there's nothing they can do and if you need it quicker to see if your provider can "call in a temporary emergency supply" to your local pharmacy. For starters, this defeats the entire purpose of mail-order pharmacy. And on top of that, the insurance company won't PAY for that temporary supply because they've already PAID for the mail-order supply.

Finally, as a diabetic, I receive insulin through mail order delivery. In early December, my insulin was "out of stock" and delayed. This is not a problem, because I always have 30 days or more of emergency backup. However, Express Scripts put my prescription in a "delayed" status for about ten days, then simply CANCELED IT OUTRIGHT. When I called, it took me well over an hour to have it "reinstated", only to be told it would be placed "on hold" until it was back in stock, and the onus was on ME to "call periodically" to see if it's back in stock and request to remove the hold. How can a pharmacy simply "cancel" a prescription because it's temporarily out of stock?

Something has to be done about this. Express Scripts' service is getting progressively worse. Someone is going to get seriously ill (or even die) if they do not get their medications when they are supposed to.

    Original Review: Jan. 15, 2024

Express Scripts. I am so frustrated, disappointed, saddened and angry with insurance companies in the main. Express Scripts errored in my mail order of 90 day supply of a needed prescription. In mid December I had my primary physician send a prescription to Express Scripts. In December 14 I called to notify ES of a change of address and that I had a pending order. The representative did not indicate any issues and changed my address change. Unbeknownst to me, the order was “processed” and the representative didn’t inform as such.

On December 19, I called and then the string of suggestions to “help” remedy the situation. All of which I had to do footwork. Express Scripts never took ownership or accountability. It was suggested for me to go back to my former residence, which I could not. It was suggested I call my primary physician to send a new prescription. Here they never gave any stipulations of what that would entail. I called my primary doctor to send a new prescription. However, my physician’s office said there may be an out of pocket expense because the prescription are so close to each in filling the prescription.

I called Express Scripts trying to mitigate the cost for us. However, representatives were not trained to help in such a matter so I asked her to supervisor. Having to explain the situation three times because the representative is less than par is. The representative kept talking about the old prescription and that it was already “delivered”. 4-5 times it kept saying the same jargon and excuse. My request is for them, Express Scripts, to be proactive and I’m helping them avoid another erroneous mistake. The representative can’t get out of the mode, “I can’t fill a prescription until I have the new prescription.” He thinks that’s what I’m asking him to do. I’m asking him to note my account somehow that a prescription is coming

Finally, dismissed him and asked to speak to a supervisor. Why on earth do people get jobs in a call center without the basic listening skills is beyond my comprehension. Each time calls (total of 5) lasted over 39 minutes. Supervisors I spoke to were Maria and Veronica. Each time told me they’re going to escalated to the appropriate account manager and I would hear back in 48 hours. Not once did I receive an email or a returned call. Being without my medication for now four weeks. Express Scripts passed the blame to the insurance company. Stating since they never got back to Express Scripts, they cannot fulfill the prescription because too much time elapsed.

Loopholes to absolve companies who are supposed to be conduits of healing. Spending five weeks to correct this only to have the prescription unfulfilled and being without prescription that is needed, is the brand they have. The erroneous steps that they have is systemic to the greater problem for this company. Choose another pharmacy to fulfill your prescriptions and for mailing. There is not as strategic plan to help the customer when mishaps happened on either side. In this case, the onus was on Express Scripts, though they never admitted it, they only gave excuses.

If you're like me, you likely had the misfortune of your national pharmacy administrator moving to Express Scripts. First and foremost, I offer you my condolences. After each interaction, I think to myself that surely the customer service cannot be any worse and each time I am proven wrong. It took my husband weeks, literal weeks, before everything was finally resolved and his medication was delivered. Weeks of going back and forth with Express Scripts, Accredo, and his doctor's office.

No one in this company is on the same page. You, your care coordinator, your pharmacy, and your doctor will all be given different information depending who you're speaking with and when you speak with them. My most recent experience took over 24 hours before the issue was solved. Multiple times I was told that they were faxing a prior authorization form to my doctor's office.

Spoiler alert: They never sent one. But unbeknownst to me, despite what we were told all day, a prior authorization wasn't even needed! It took a different supervisor, the following day to give me the correct information. No one until Day 2 was willing to call my doctor's office or my pharmacy despite several different customer service reps on Day 1 taking down the information. They didn't even have my PCP's name correct until Day 2 despite me also giving that information to them multiple times.

It should not take over 24 hours to get a customer service rep or supervisor that knows what they're talking about and can give a correct answer. The customer service reps either lie to customers or are woefully undertrained and inadequate. As a pharmacy benefit administrator, both are inexcusable. Medication plays a major role in health and well-being. And yet, their customer service and sense of urgency is worse than a retail store.

We used Express Scripts many years ago and it was a horrible experience. We avoided it for over a decade. This year our insurance offered no preferred pharmacies with drive-throughs, so I thought...how bad can it be? ...maybe it's become more competent. BAD CALL. I have been trying to get my daughter's anti-convulsants filled the past five days. At present, and after about five hours on the phone, I am afraid our order of four new RXs is no closer to being mailed than it was when the RX were sent to Express Scripts.

First, just getting through to a live person is a five-minute chore. Lots of "screens" and auto voices must be tripped through first. Ridiculous. Once to a live person, no one seems to have general knowledge. I ask a simple question about timing or an expedited shipping speed and am told "I must transfer you for that..." or "I will need to send you to your designated rep for that..." Then I'm transferred and that new person who has no clue what to do or say. Then I'm transferred again and again. Absolutely appalling. There are typically at least 20 minutes on hold between transfers.

I tried to use the website to track progress on my order. For a day or two most RXs showed "in process" and I assumed all was well. Today I logged on and saw that things had been on hold waiting for me to put the items in the cart. Note that the web did NOT indicate this previously nor does the general on-line how-to- order mention that you must do that to activate the processing. My daughter's meds incur no costs to us, so the cart is rather a non-issue typically. Had the add to cart showed up initially I would have done so then. It did not. It took me a long time to find the link that activated add to cart, but I did hit the magic spot and added three RXs to cart. That changed nothing and still stated "action needed."

Hence I called. After two hours I learned that they had to call me and authorize the medications before they'd start filling. NOWHERE do they tell a customer this evidently critical step. One rep told me, someone should have called you to authorize....well, no they didn't. This meant that my rxs were delayed a minimum of FOUR days before even starting to fill them. Then I tried to find to how to expedite shipping. More transfers. More holds. More answers... "Can't do that, need to talk to (fill in blank) and I'll transfer you..." More holds, more I can't do that. Sigh. And one RX showed in process four days in a row then suddenly it seems they decided to call the doctor for a prior authorization--calling AFTER the doctor's office hours, meaning it will be Monday at the earliest when they can BEGIN to fill that RX.

In sum, tired of typing, but it was much worse than that. Rep finally found to expedite shipping and the filling, but I am not confident that this will happen since I got messages saying to expect my orders by January 21st, TWO weeks after my physician sent the scripts to them. My local pharmacy can fill them in under twenty-four hours... So, here's the bottom line. After about six hours on hold Tuesday-today, and no medication in sight for a loooong time...it would have made more sense to go into a pharmacy and wait in line. It would have saved me about 5.5 hours and I would not have the meds that we will greatly suffer not having. Of course, since they are in process, that means I can't fill them elsewhere locally because insurance has already been claimed on the Express Script fills.

Call this a lesson learned. Express Scripts is awful. They kept saying, "Things are very backed up. It's January." What a surprise. January came again next year. Give me a break. Express Scripts: quit piling up the $$ into fat cat owner accounts at the expense of the customers. I am one customer not willing to tolerate the incompetence at the expense of my daughter's health. I'm outa here.

I recently had the misfortune of trying to deal with this company. Due to a change in my insurance policy, I was informed my current pharmacy was no longer honoring my insurance, but that Express Scripts was an option. Because one of my medications is listed as a "controlled substance", I needed to get approval from my doctor to receive a 90 day supply. I called Express Scripts and was told that they would send a fax to my dr to get approval, and that we should know something within 72 hours. This was at 3:30 pm on Wednesday.

At 10:30 on Thursday (18 hours later) Express Scripts called to say that they had denied my claim because they were not able to get in touch with my doctor. When pressed, they claimed that they called once at 6:30 pm, and again at 7:30 am - both of these times are not my doctor's office hours. They also said that since they weren't able to get in touch within 24 hours, they denied the claim. I pointed out that 1) 24 hours had not elapsed; 2) I made it clear that 72 hours was fine, at no point did I ask them to expedite; and 3) they had called at times that it was not reasonable to expect the office to be open. Too bad, was their response, but they did let me talk to the Appeals Department. The phone call took almost an hour, and now they are telling me that they will "try" to get in touch with my doctor and that "hopefully" they would have a response in 7 days or so.

Meanwhile, I'm in limbo on my prescriptions. This company is a joke. I think I'll just go with a local pharmacy, if Express Scripts can't perform a simple approval, I shudder to think how badly they would likely mess up my prescription order. Don't waste your time with this company. Wish I had read the multitude of one-star reviews before I even considered trying to give them my business.

My child has only ever had one insurance in her 17 years since we're military. When I called and asked why they think she has another insurance company I was told they only show the one in their system but could not explain why they denied it saying to use my other, non-existent, insurance. I also asked why they needed a new prior auth for a med she was already on and already had a prior auth for... They said they see no history of a prior auth ever for that med. Interesting since it's a controlled med that, according to the insurance, that med has ALWAYS required a prior auth and she's been on the initial drug for 3 months and shouldn't need a new prior auth until the 1-year mark.

Everything they've told me goes against what the ROEs state, meanwhile my child had her meds abruptly halted and has been off her meds for 1 month now due to these delay tactics. They don't seem to care these are actual people on the other end of these prior auths. I just switched to Express Scripts because my insurance cancelled the contract with my nearest retail pharmacy. I had to scramble to get all 15 of my medications into them. I only found out about the cancelation last Wednesday, the 3rd. I immediately requested a refill for one of my major heart medications the morning of the 4th. I paid $26 and requested overnight delivery. It showed "Processing" by the afternoon of the 4th. I tried calling the morning of the 5th to see if I could bring it to their attention that I only had a few days of this medication left and ask it to be expedited. I held for over 30 minutes and kept trying to call only to hold for 30 minutes each time.

I finally requested a call back through their automated system. Almost an hour later they called back, I answer to a recorded voice telling me to hold and when someone picked up, they immediately hung up on me. I finally got hold of them today, Monday morning. It still shows as "Processing". I explained to the woman that I needed this because today is my last day, I only have 2 pills left. She said there was nothing she could do, no one she could talk to even find out when it would ship.

I asked if no one thinks that if the patient is paying for overnight delivery, that it's needed urgently? She said she wasn't sure. All she could suggest is that I get another prescription from my doctor to get a partial refill and pay out of pocket. However, this particularly medication is very expensive and even just 8 pills costs $100.

So now I am without this medication, which helps keep my heart beating. Waiting for my doctor to send a prescription to the nearest pharmacy and for them to fill it. But there's still no guarantee or no way of knowing when my meds will ship or if they will even get here by the end of the week. Then I'll have to go through the whole thing and put out another $100!!

Where is the urgency in getting people the medications that are keeping them alive and healthy? What is the use of their representatives if all they can do is look at a computer to see all the same information I see on their mobile app. If I hadn't been forced to use them, I wouldn't but I don't have a choice. I certainly hope they do better in the future. My health is in their hands and right now, I don't have much confidence in them.

The first time I called to inquire about delay in my prescription being processed, I was informed that they received a shipment of my medication that morning and that it would be filled right away, my prescription was not filled. The second time my husband called on my behalf, he spent hours on the phone, he was okayed on hold and transferred to multiple people who made him reexplain the situation each time. The call ended with a promise that the prescription would be refilled and expedited. After several more days of waiting he called again, went through the same process, he was told that there was no notes made of his previous call. He was informed that my only option was the non generic, much more expensive version of my medication, I need it, so it was agreed that we’d pay for the name brand. Again, the call ended with a promise to expedite.

Here we are 2 days later and my prescription still hasn’t been processed. The discontinuation syndrome that I am experiencing is miserable (happy holidays to me). We’re going to complain to plan administrator, but it won’t get me medication or help me to feel any better. This practice of lying to consumers is terribly frustrating and cruel.

I even spoke to a supervisor today (12/28/23) and she backed up all the other employees I’ve talked to about this 90 day supply. Just for kicks my doctor went ahead and sent in the prescription for 90 days and of course it was rejected. Why isn’t anyone at Express Scripts understanding of the laws regarding controlled substances? Someone from the DEA needs to investigate exactly where these employees and supervisors are getting their information. Because they actually believe you can get a 90 day supply when under the law only 30 day supplies are allowed. They should not be playing roulette with peoples much needed medications. Please DEA step in and retrain the Express Scripts supervisors and employees on the laws related to controlled substances.

I have been with Express Scripts for six years. For the most part, I was happy with them, they had fulfilled my blood thinners. I usually call about 10 days ahead so I would have them on time. But they did have their scruples, like calling and writing a letter because I had filled a prescription at a local pharmacy. And my husband had done that as well, but my blood thinners had always came from Express Scripts. They told us that if we continue at the local pharmacy they would discontinue us at Express Scripts. So we transferred everything to them. Recently, my husband exchanged jobs, which required us to enroll into the new job insurance program. So it came to time for me to order my prescription and my blood thinners. I go to sign in online and find out all my history is gone and my last refill. I called them up, they said, "Oh you’re a new member?"

I said, "No, I’ve been with this company for six years and that’s what I’m calling about. I need my last refill to be ordered. I’m calling to update my insurance." There was nothing that they could do to retrieve my refill. I had to go visit my doctor and get a new order but I told my doctor I am no longer using an Express Scripts to send my order to Amazon pharmacy. We’ll see how that goes but I will never return to Express Scripts. I think they just went over the line and can compromise one’s health. I don’t know, maybe for their own personal benefit? Seems like maybe somebody’s making sales commissions and if you’re not a good candidate, then they delete you. One more thing, Express Scripts please do not reply with…I’m sorry this happened to you. I am no longer interested and nothing you can say can change that. I hope you learn as a company how to treat customers and act like a pharmacy.

I have a required medication that needs to be refilled 1x a month. I started with 2 weeks left on my medication before I ran out thinking things would go quickly. There was some delay because my doctor took a few days to approve my refill. From that point on, it took Express Scripts another two weeks before finally processing my medication. Now they are sending it to me another week late. So now I am 3 weeks without my required medication. To top it off, they are sending it to me when I am on vacation and away from home. This is refrigerated medication. They send me the email today that it was going to be another week. I tried to call them to delay it a few days until I am back from vacation, but they said it is out of their hands. They told me that once I receive the medication, to call their pharmacist to discuss the issue.

I am not sure what the point of that is as the refrigerated medication will be sitting for several days until I return from vacation. I risk losing the effectiveness of a very expensive medication. If you try to order earlier than allowed because of their slowness, you are denied until you are allowed to refill the prescription per their requirements. Having said that, I have used them for another medication that was shipped last week and arrived this week, which took 3 ways from ordering to arrival, but that doesn't need medication and it was in my mailbox waiting for me.

I would say to avoid Express Scripts if you have either medications that need to be refrigerated or need refills 1x/month as it will be cutting it too close. I am very unsatisfied with Express Scripts and will stick to using my local pharmacy which is only took days vs weeks. One other thing to note. I have been paying $0 out of pocket with Costco for the same medication but Express Scripts is charging me a small out-of-pocket price. I am not sure why as it is all through my same medical insurance provider.

If you require anything other than formulary generic medications, be prepared for a stressful, red-tape, bureaucratic nightmare trying to get it filled through Express Scripts. Have been dealing with ES for years and it has gotten progressively worse, year-over-year. It is to the point that dealing with them is as stressful as some of the health conditions we require medications for. Part of it is the design of medical/drug plans to eventually get everyone on generic medications.

Another problem is trying to speak with a human in ES customer service. If you get through the extremely long hold time, more times than not, I am then connected to a noisy, foreign call center. The agents can only deal with standard 'cue-card' type questions and are not knowledgeable on complicated issue you might have. And there is no way to call and get a USA based agent that speaks your language and can help on complicated issues. The ES patient portal messaging email functions is worse. You get a cryptic answer that parrots your questions with some pablum added on, not addressing your issue. All this goes away if you simply take only the meds they say you can take, i.e., formulary generics.

I am a police officer who was shot in 2021 on duty and will probably have to be on pain meds the rest of my life. Workers comp moved my prescriptions to Express Scripts for a more permanent long term pharmacy. I take two medications and have been since 2021. My Doctor has now sent the prescription three different times (Nov 28th, Dec 7th, and Dec 14th) and every time it has been a different excuse by the pharmacy as to why they can't fill it. I am now out of the medication as of December 1st, was forced to withdraw cold turkey, and now have been in immense pain for 15 days with no end in sight.

Nov 28th my Dr sent in a 30 day script since I was running out on December 1st. Showed processing online and I was told by Express Scripts since it was mail delivery it would be at my house on December 4th. I called December 5th because it never showed up and I was told they needed to speak with my Dr office before they could sent it.

I called my Dr and he was told by Express Scripts to send a new prescription. Dec 7th my Dr resent the prescription and it showed processing. It was authorized by work comp and "Ready for shipping" on December 8th when all the sudden it showed "Cancelled" with a message saying my Dr called and cancelled the prescription. I called Express Scripts and they said sorry your Dr called and cancelled it call them. I called my Dr office and they had no record of anything being cancelled and set me up with an appointment on December 14th to see him again.

December 14th my Dr sent the script a third time and agreed to speak with the pharmacist with me in the office to make sure there was no issues. After 15 minutes of talking to the Express Scripts pharmacist, my Dr was so frustrated he gave me the phone and said "I don't know what they want I don't have time for these people." The pharmacist was asking questions about my diagnosis, medical plan, history, asking the Dr if he tried different treatments for the pain. My Dr even told the pharmacist during the call "That is none of your business you are a pharmacist not a Dr." After leaving the office I called Express Scripts and they said everything looked good and the script would be shipped within 24 hours.

Well here we are the end of day on the 15th (Friday) and it is still processing. Express Scripts now wants to ask my Dr questions again and claiming they don't have a prior authorization for the medication! Funny the script from the 28th and 7th was authorized all the sudden this one isn't? They are now saying to call back Monday the 18th since they are closed on the weekend.

The bottomline is this pharmacy does not care about their customers and they will waste your time. I half think they aren't even a pharmacy and scam people. I have contacted an attorney after reading all the reviews on this website and hoping to get some sort of class action against them. This is wrong the amount of suffering they are causing me with no explanation. They will lie and blame everyone else for why your medication hasn't shipped.

Since this change, I have encountered a myriad of issues that were nonexistent with our previous provider. Express Scripts has consistently denied prescriptions that were previously approved without any complications by our prior service provider. Furthermore, they have inundated my doctor’s office with a ceaseless barrage of preauthorization requests, stipulating specific language requiring home delivery for medications that are essential for everyday use, such as blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetic medications—none of which are narcotics.

Despite obtaining approval for certain prescriptions, Express Scripts has continually bombarded me with subsequent approval requests, claiming they have reached out to my doctor for additional information. However, they then assert that the prescription cannot be filled due to the lack of response from the doctor. Adding to this frustration, the call center utilized by Express Scripts employs customer service representatives who struggle with English, making effective communication and resolution nearly impossible. Despite investing extensive time on the phone, I have been unable to resolve these issues and obtain the necessary prescriptions. Given the endless hours spent conversing with incomprehensible representatives and the ultimate failure to obtain required medications, I strongly advise against using Express Scripts unless one desires to endure an exorbitant amount of time and frustration.

Updated on 05/30/2024: Here I am again. Still trying to get reimbursed for meds that I had to pay for out of my pocket in 2023. I paid premiums for this insurance starting August 1, 2023 through current. I have tried to file electronically to get reimbursed for prescriptions from October 1, 2023 through December 31, 2023. It is telling the people that are trying to file that my ins was terminated. Not by me. They kept my premium and I got no coverage. Last fall I called both Billing Services and Express Scripts once or twice a week. I thought this was solved but I was mistaken just more lip service. Would love to hear from you again to finally get this solved.

Original Review: I chose to use our company’s COBRA plan when retiring. The medical side has been great but Express Scripts has absolutely provided no coverage that I have been paying for since August 1, 2023. I have had to pay for roughly $700 worth of meds out of my own pocket and the premium I pay Express Scripts. Many, many hours on the phone and hold (would estimate close to if not over 40 hours) I was finally told I had coverage starting November 15, 2023.

I received an email that I would be receiving my prescriptions in the mail on December 1, 2023. It is now December 4, 2023 and no prescriptions. Again was on the phone this am for another 3 hours with a call center that was so loud you couldn’t understand the person. That person again told me I didn’t have coverage… Oh I had coverage but it ended November 30, 2023 but lo and behold they took money out of my account for December. I question this whole company. Accounting - if I don’t have coverage where’s my money you took? You should be sending it back. I think the government should take an internal look at this company and their business practices. Our company conducted audits every year. I couldn’t image being an older person trying to deal with this and the loud call center. Think of all the people that aren’t posting.

NO ETA, NO DRUGS, NO EXCUSE for a company.

They ROUTINELY deny diabetes medication, cancel orders, or ask you for more authorizations. They said there's a worldwide shortage of this medication in the reply I received - yet I filed the order SAME DAY at the local WALMART. No problems. (They do not mediate complaints - do not believe any of the reviews that say they do). If you have ANY other options to get your medicines you need, PLEASE try elsewhere. The fact they are still in business is not only unbelievable, but unconscionable. And I think routinely denying diabetes medication as a company, is also ILLEGAL, but they're still doing it. Daily.

Customer service reps aren’t trained properly.. Each manager has a different answer for the same issue. Changed my medication for something comparable, but that medication wasn’t in stock! And not sure when it will be in stock. So I’m still receiving meds at the local pharmacy.. so I’m paying 2 different pharmacies monthly for meds.. why doesn’t that make sense to me? Who changes a medication to something new, that’s not in stock? Keep in mind it took weeks to get the meds from the local pharmacy because of so much miscommunication from express scripts.. insanity!

Once you scream at it enough and you get someone online, they pull up old discontinued scripts that they have told me before they have “archived” but they haven’t. You have all of your prescriptions put on automatic refill but when you are down to three pills of a drug with very adverse discontinuation side effects, they tell you that none of your prescriptions are on auto-refill. Your doctor writes a superseding prescription for a higher dosage and they send you the prescription with the lower dosage. My very health is at the mercy of this inefficient company!

Worst company ever. This company has denied my medication for over a year. Medication I’ve taken for years has been denied. Tried another medication didn’t work. The life saving medicine I need denied. My doctor has wasted countless hours filling out their paperwork still denied. How can they deny a medicine you have to have to live? My company did a huge injustice to their employees changing to this company. There is nothing EXPRESS about this company. The employees that are denying these life saving medications are not qualified to decide if your life saving meds are approved.

We pay experienced doctors with many years of schooling. Then we are forced to go thru this company because they are the only option. Horrible horrible company. If I could give this company a -10 rating I would. Do better Express Scripts. Approve the medications people need so less hospitalizations happen. I just want to scream, they have literally ruined my life. I cannot leave my house because I am so sick from not receiving the correct medication I need to live.

No one knows what they're doing, they're always transferring me to different departments, takes over 10 minutes to get help on 1 claim. They always hang up the phone. This is just the worse ever, they really need to go back to the automated system to get refill too soon information, regarding when and where the medication was last filled. HORRIBLE!

I have finally figured out what it is that they do wrong, and should be illegal. I want to see if there is any legal organization that can help me fight them. I take insulin for diabetes. I use a pen injector. My prescription insurance company requires me to fill prescriptions for 90 day supplies. For me that equals 18 pens. FYI. A box of insulin pens = 5 pens. My doctor, trying to be helpful, writes the script for 3 boxes. But that is 72 days.

So when the pharmacy tries to run the prescription through, the Express Scripts denies the claim with a message says they will only cover a 30 day supply (according to the Express Scripts they can only choose one limited message for the response and for some reason..I think because it misleads everyone and they make money on the penalty fees, they choose this one.) So then my pharmacy runs it at 30 days (which is really 26 days) and it comes back as a $409 copay. But that's REALLY $200 for the 26 day supply and $210 as a penalty fee for not filling it for 90 days (but I should ONLY be liable for $68 as a copay). But since it is called a copay, my pharmacy can use my HSA to pay for it. And also, it does not count towards my deductible or out of pocket max because it's a penalty fee, not a copay from the insurance side.

So If the message said 90 days, then the pharmacy would do the right thing, and I would pay the right amount. But I have to then argue with the Pharmacy that Express Scripts' message is a lie. This seems to me to be a nefarious, maybe fraudulent policy here? Definitely predatory the consumers. And if you have not spent enough time talking to everyone involved and hearing the words that are used, you miss where the fraud is. Because MY HSA should not legally be able to pay for non-refundable penalty fees that are fraudulently presented as a copay for medications that are covered by their policies AND are life threatening to not have access to. I spent HOURS and days on the phone fighting to get my money back last time, and I got the $200 med fee but not the penalty fee. (I was out of my insulin and had no choice but to pay or die.)So now I want to fight the policy. This is wrong, and I know I am not the only one they are doing this to.

I have a chronic illness that not only requires daily medications, but specialty infusions every 8 weeks, as well. Countless times over the last 3+ years I’ve been working with Express Scripts through my employer, I have spent hours on the phone trying to get a medication shipment expedited because of a delay (often times, more than a week since placing the order) at the fault of Express Scripts, leading to days without my medication that is essential to my wellbeing.

To me, this is unacceptable and should be taken seriously, as it has not only impacted the condition of my chronic illness, but has caused many sleepless nights and days filled with anxiety due to Express Scripts’ incompetency. These are scenarios that could easily be avoided by using a more trustworthy local pharmacy option. There is no reason people who rely on daily medications should run the risk of missing dosages due to a pharmacy issue when there was more than enough time between ordering and running out of medication.

As seen on their ConsumerAffairs review, Express Scripts has been rated a 1.2 among 3,575 customer reviews due to poor service, indicating that this is a widespread issue for thousands of customers. As recently as this past Thanksgiving weekend, I had ordered a medication the week prior, allowing for 10 days before I was due to run out, and after multiple progress check-in calls on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, I was finally told on Saturday that my attempts to get the order expedited never went through and my only hope was to get a short-term supply (which required a new prescription, something that was not possible to acquire from a doctor over Thanksgiving weekend) or to transfer my prescription entirely to a local pharmacy since I had 1 day of medication left, and that they could put me on with one of their pharmacists so I knew the risks in going without my medication.

Thankfully, there was a local pharmacy that had my medication in stock, but Express Scripts blocked coverage so I had to pay out of pocket for it. Additionally, the lack of communication at Express Scripts is just as harmful as their shipment delays. There have been several times where I was not notified that I needed a prior authorization or that a previous PA had expired until the day before my infusion was scheduled to get delivered, resulting in me missing/delaying dosages that was imperative to my health. Each time this happens, I raise the issue to Express Scripts and request that I am notified of any potential shipment delays prior to the week of delivery, all to no avail. I have done everything in my power to try and raise my concerns, filing complaints to both Express Scripts directly, as well as to the Better Business Bureau to open an investigation. So far nothing has changed and, unfortunately, I doubt it ever will.

Prior Covid I hadn’t had any issues with Express Scripts. However, for the past year there has been an ongoing hassle in ordering my specialty prescription. First, they wouldn’t archive a doctor that was no longer in practice (died) and kept processing the old prescription from that doctor instead of acknowledging a prescription submitted by a new doctor. Multiple phone calls later of my prescription being canceled because they need authorization from a doctor who has died, I had to request that they archive that prescription to notice the new prescription submitted. Of course this delayed my order on a time sensitive medication.

Currently despite changing my shipping address under my account and getting confirmation of that shipping address over the phone, Express Scripts sends my time sensitive syringe medication that needs refrigeration to my former address. They wouldn’t refund or replace my order until management was requested. They told me because it’s a holiday week they probably wouldn’t be able to ship my specialty medication until I miss a dosage. I have continuously ordered my prescription more and more in advance trying to prevent these sorts of mismanaged delays but there’s even a limitation on how soon I can order. I’m fortunate that my life isn’t dependent on my medication however Express Scripts practices can be dangerous for those who do depend on their life saving medications.

Do they simply run the cheapest lowest quality possible prescription mail order pharmacy (that appears to run on foreign call centers and robocalls) and win the 'lowest bid' for companies that wish to spend as little as possible on employee prescription benefits?

They call you via robocall, provide no information, pass you to a offshore call centers with non-native English speakers who then ask you for your PII (Personally Identifying Information), again without context. At this point, I am thinking, "is this an identity theft scam?". After providing your information to someone who knows nothing about your account or medications, you get transferred to another department where someone (again) asks you for the same personally identifying information (full name and date of birth).

This person is at least able to pull up your account and tell you (sometimes) what the call is about (e.g. counseling with a pharmacist for a new medication). This 2nd person you speak with (3rd if you count the robocall) cannot do anything either except verify who you are (why didn't they get that info from the 1st person you spoke to?) and pass you to the pharmacist. Once you get to a pharmacist (after 2-3 other people plus an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) automated phone system) they may actually be able to help you, if you are lucky.

Express Scripts has been on time for the past half year. It also seems a bit simpler on the refill protocol. Perhaps they are trying to resolve the issues in that process.

    Original Review: Nov. 6, 2023

I have had issues with Express Scripts on more than one occasion. Years ago when I first attempted to use them one of my heart medications was incorrectly bottled (I cannot remember what was in the bottle now, but I confirmed with another pharmacy). When I had first called ES to inquire they told me to take it; it was the correct pill just a different look. So imagine my surprise when I was told I was lucky I did not. This was years and years ago, I might add, and I decided not to use them again. Several years pass and they tell me I have no choice with certain meds but to use them. So I switched those meds. I receive one from them that is normally individual pills in a solidified clump at the bottom of the pill container. I call and they advise me to try and break them apart. I said there is no beginning or end. They advised me to cut them into equal pieces and take them. I say no, send me a new one. They did not want to do that.

I reverted back to my local pharmacy after finding out at that time I did not have to switch after all. More years go by (I receive some cold calls from ES trying to get me to switch). I end up on a drug that is a specialty and only ES covers. No problem, but it is. They do not send it on time after starting (this is crucial to taking this medication). There is no perfect timing. You cannot call early to refill because they cannot process it until a certain time. If you call on time then they put it into a process queue. Where it appears to stay for several days (perhaps a week - even if this is a weekly med).

Now after the processing queue is up they have to call you with a delivery date. Here is the weird part. They call you probably 2-4 times, but I have found out that until you get the call for the actual date none of the other calls matter. Then if you call to ask about your meds and let them know you are waiting for the delivery or you are out because of this timing issue. They want to give you to the pharmacist to see if there are over-the-counter things you can do (at least that is what three of the reps have done so far). I have refused the counseling by the pharmacist so I cannot say for sure what they would advise. I do not trust Express Script's remote work-from-home office model to replace my walk-in pharmacy where I see smiling faces and am greeted genuinely not to mention the pharmacist is nearby, if there is a problem it can be addressed immediately and my medication is being filled THAT day.

It is dangerous to make the claims that they do and that the medication will arrive.

As of October 16th the order still shows processing. When asking the representative on October 16th when it will be shipped I was told "I don't know". When I asked why it takes so long to fill this order the representative hung up on me. This happens every time a representative can't answer my question. In my opinion hanging up on a customer is a sign of a dishonest company. Don't ever use Cigna as a provider of any kind.

I have to use Express Scripts per insurance now. So far I have spent 15 hours of my time trying to get 2 medications filled and sent before I run out, one being a medication for cancer. I have spoken to numerous managers, supervisors, and Rphs. It shouldn’t take over a month for medication to get to my home. I work in a call center and there is no clear communications going on in this company. No one updates anything, they’re a lawsuit waiting to happen. They have violated my HIPPA rights twice now by calling my husband and my info has been updated 3 times now but they just do not add or keep notes correctly.

I’m currently on the phone with them now on hold, again and being sent to the backend pharmacy. It’s sad when after only a few months I know all of their terminology. I was without my medication for 19 days last month and hope this isn’t the issue for this one because I will have seizures without it. They tell me I HAVE to use this company but then a representative will say, “oh you can go to your local pharmacy.” So which is it? Terrible, terrible company. If you call the corporate office, no one calls to you back. I’ve not just explain what a DUR is to a supervisor. This isn’t my job. I wish I could give them zero stars.

When I change insurance companies I always get a "We did not cover this as there are less expensive alternatives." First off do they think my Doctor and myself are stupid? I am paying over 300.00 for a name brand drug when a 30.00 generic would work just as well. The other part is if I went thru the whole process where my doctor had to justify to them that the name brand drug was needed they still cover very little and so there is no need to even bother. But the automated system just sends out the mail without any thought. Additionally the drug is in short supply so since there is now a generic no one has it in stock. Nothing gets me more upset than a form letter that is sent out without a human even looking at it. I know many people that have missed important emails or letters due to all the junk that is also sent out.

The most recent representative asked me if I needed to speak with their pharmacist to discuss issues regarding not taking my prescribed medication. I pay the difference for the full month. My pharmacy tells me this is what most people do while also using GoodRx. There is no way for me to stop paying for pharmacy coverage under my retirement plan without stopping medical coverage for me and my daughter. Seems like a scam.

In the appeal process, the clinician recommended a drug that was the main source of the complaint. If they actually read the appeal, they would not have embarrassed themselves. I was told my condition was not life or death (which it is) and was told about how I should file a tier reduction even if my appeal is denied. The next person told me I should have never been told about tier reduction as it is for medicare patients only. No one has consistent information. I filed a grievance asking the company to pull their "recorded" phone conversations to verify the unprofessionalism and misinformation and get back with me to explain how this is happening.

If your HR has foisted Express Scripts onto you, know that you are in for a serious headache. Express-Scripts does one thing - complicate the Doctor-Patient-Pharmacy even worse than it was before they got involved. If your doctor prescribes a drug and calls it into the pharmacy, the pharmacy MAY be allowed to fill that under your coverage. If it is what E-S deems a "maintenance drug" they will NOT fill it at all at a non-CVS or Walgreens pharmacy. You MUST use one of these high-cost pharmacies.

Then, if it is a maintenance drug, if you get it in the prescribed quantity (usually 30 pills), you will be assessed a punitive fee by E-S for not getting it in a quantity of 90 pills. Unless you check this against their online formulary, you will need to return to your doctor and ask them to rewrite the script for 90 pills. The language they'll use is "preferred." This is the "preferred" quantity. This is the "preferred" pharmacy. What they mean is "required." Also, they "prefer" that you order your drugs through the mail, and use these punitive fees to cut out the other pharmacies.

My wife spent half a working day trying to get my son's scripts filled. What they did is they tried to charge my wife $75 for a month's supply of a drug, that would cost $20 for a 90-day supply. There was no explanation at the register -- she needed to know this -- that her drug insurer was assessing her a fee GREATER than the cost of the drug. And how do you know you are buying a "maintenance drug?" That's what I asked when I called on 10/10/2023. The first agent hung up on me. The second agent said I needed to check their online formula OR download their app. DON'T let Express-Scripts rip you off. Demand that your HR contract with another provider. Express-Scripts doesn't want to make you healthy. They want your money -- it's plain and simple.

So he chose a different medication that should do basically the same thing, maybe not as well, but it should work. He asked me to reach out to Express Scripts to find out what their coverage policy is before he submits the prior authorization. He just wants to make sure he's not wasting his time. If there's no chance they'll cover me, he won't even bother. He just wanted to see the document describing the situations in which they cover the medications...Every medication has one.

I have tried calling literally 6 times during their business hours and either it connects me to someone and then immediately hangs up on me, or I sit there waiting for an hour until I finally give up and hang up the phone. I finally resorted to email, and the person who answered me did not listen to anything I said. I asked for the coverage policy. They explained to me what a prior authorization is.

I told them, "I know what it is, and I know I need one before I can get the prescription. That's not what I'm asking for. I'm asking for the document that describes in what conditions you will cover the medication. Every medication has one." They respond 3 days later with "Your doctor has to submit a prior authorization. Here's how to do that." NO, I DON'T NEED TO SUBMIT A PRIOR AUTHORIZATION TO SEE THE COVERAGE POLICY. I gave up and googled it. Found it in 5 minutes. Don't even bother with their customer service. They are useless, and they take forever.

Clearly their policy and guideline is to repeatedly deny prescriptions with the hope that people get so fed up that they give up. Either that or by delaying again and their number crunchers have calculated that they get some saving. Probably both. This is all about money and all at the cost of the consumer. They clearly do not take into account the medical history. I’ve had them deny a medication for prior authorization again and again - even one month since the last time the dr sent in their required authorization. They claim they reach out to my dr to no avail but he refutes that as a bold-faced lie. My dr is beyond frustrated with when - which I think is their idea again to save money by getting people to give up - when the dr can finally chase them down and get them what is “required”, they then deny it for a completely different reason. Delay and deny. Policy and money over people.

They are terrible to work with- they have all the power- and there is no reasoning or logic. If I had any choice I would never use them. I’ve never dealt with a company that is either this incompetent or corrupt in their policies. I believe it’s the latter. They know what they are doing to screw the consumer and save a buck and it’s simply wrong.

Updated on 09/20/2023: Tried to respond on this app, but it says WAITING FOR RESPONSE - but won't let me type more. So now that I posted a bad review, Express Scripts reached out THE SAME DAY while I've been waiting for help on their app for a week. I sent the email they requested - still only received an email saying they're researching. Well, they sent the RX once already, so how do I need prior authorization when my insurance covered it the first time? Also, they just delay and say they're waiting for additional information so they can cancel the order. I scrolled down on my order history -- RX from doctor, they say they're investigating coverage or waiting for doctor reply -- then they say they never hear back and they STOP or CANCEL the order. They have done this 3 times for this rx for Dexcom 7 sensors for my diabetes -- 3 times my doctor sends the RX, 3 times they have stopped or canceled the order.

Original Review: I have Type 2 Diabetes. Express Scripts KNOWS this as they've been charging me for my medicine for years. Yet, when I got the Dexcom Sensors prescribed, they asked for PRIOR AUTHORIZATION to see if my plan pays (yet, they have already filled the RX 90 days prior). NOW, they're doing it again, dragging on the approval that my doctor has sent in to them THREE TIMES NOW and I'm out of sensors and unable to check my blood sugar. SO, all the progress I made in the past 90 days (when they sent the sensors that NOW they want to authorize YET AGAIN) is gone, and I have no idea what my sugar levels are.

They do not care about the customer, and they routinely "can't reach my doctor" so they can cancel prescriptions. Yet, my doctor sends them and they get into the system somehow....But then get cancelled or delayed. Then when I use the local WALMART (cheaper and faster, but not 90 days supply) they routinely send me emails saying they'd save me money if I'd switch to mail delivery -- and then when I try, this is what happens. FAIL.

The doctor's office will turn in a prescription, and then they want a follow up call or email from the Doctor stating that they did indeed want the patient to get the medication. Now why would they need the Doctor to do this on every medication, even when Express Scripts has been providing this medication for several years! They owe me hundreds of dollars due to their mistakes, and they deny all correspondence by mail. We set up a tentative shipment date of March 8, 2023, reassured that I could cancel. No one was able to provide me with this information. Sometime after June 6, 2023, I received a bill from Express Scripts for $1,563.32.

After countless communication between myself and Express Scripts, The Portland Clinic, and Regence, Express Scripts found me not at fault for the amount owed on July 31, 2023: saying that the employee I spoke with should not have said that the amount due could be adjusted after it was shipped, because once it is shipped, an invoice is created, the claim was sent to the insurance company, so the amount quoted to me would be my copay and I would be responsible, but failed to let me know, only continued to send me bills and ask for payment every time I called. As of September 8, 2023 I cannot get a turnaround time for when the amount will be charged off, and I keep receiving bills in the mail.

I would rather go without than to give Express Scripts a cigna company a single dollar of my money. Reading through these reviews, it seems that express scripts and cigna treat a lot of their customers the same way. I just can't even process how awful this experience has been or how cruel that representative was. I tried to call back and speak to a manager and was just left on hold for 28 minutes.

I have attached my denial letter for your review and I will keep emailing and posting reviews about you and Express scripts until someone cares enough about the person instead of the written protocol that has stripped the human factor away from the doctors. While I do not expect them to care about one person who is upset and suffering because of this ridiculous policy, I would hope that they would care enough to not want an email everyday from the crazy menopausal woman needing some relief in the form of a patch that her doctor prescribed for her.

The representatives are also rude and make comments that your Rx isn't actually urgent. For me it is worth paying for Rx's out of pocket w/ GoodRx. August 18, 2023 - About abuses, traps, and tricks from pharmacy Express-Scripts, a CIGNA company. Express-Scripts causes me more high blood pressure than anything else. Every new prescription is a nightmare to get approval for and to get it shipped. Typical trick: "there is a conflict with the way the doctor prescribed the medication." When the fabricated conflict is resolved, then "this medication is not approved." There are many other excuses by this pharmacy. I'm beginning to think that CIGNA, the parent company, reimburses a portion of the price of the medication if Express-Scripts succeeds in finding an excuse not to dispense the medication. Why else would a pharmacy refuse to fill a prescription? The question is: how far are CIGNA and Express-Scripts going to be allowed to continue their abuse? How far?

Express Scripts, owned by publicly-traded Cigna, is one of the three largest pharmacy benefit managers in the U.S. In theory, their mail-order fulfillment business should run just like Amazon.com—medications are automatically delivered to patients timely. The reality is half this. If you have a basic run-of-the-mill prescription that doesn’t require refrigeration or is some sort of medical supplies, you may find success with Express Scripts. However, if you have more complicated medications, such as a diabetic supplies or insulin, you would be better off avoiding Express Scripts. The support agents are always cheerful, but the moment an issue comes up they turn into agents demonstrating a Comcast-esk level of incompetence.

I used Express Scripts for multiple years until I realized that like clockwork, every time there was a complication it would be incumbent on me to act as the middleman between the doctor’s office and Express Scripts to resolve very basic things. My doctor’s office noted that Express Scripts puts up inane bureaucratic hurdles for them, often devolving into faxes (FAXES?!?) having to be signed and sent, and then daily calls by me to make sure Express Scripts processed them so I wouldn’t die. Other issues involved them inappropriately sending medications costing over $1,000 via methods such as UPS’s SurePost which explicitly states it is not for use for “non-urgent” and “low-value” shipping needs. It took over five calls and two escalations for them to stop shipping expensive medications using this method to me.

Additionally, Express Scripts prices are no longer the most competitively priced after the acquisition. It’s worth shopping around using your health plans Rx pricer or GoodRx.com. Bottom line is that unless you have non-urgent, basic pill-based medications, you and your life will be far better off working with a local pharmacy, and ideally one that your doctor’s office regularly works with.

I've lost income as a result of having to call Aetna and Express Scripts over and over again. Aetna's website, as well as its Customer Service agents, have informed me many times that my annual deductible had been met as of several months ago. Express Scripts, on the other hand, informed me that my deductible had not been met and thus it would cost me $884 for one prescription.

Express Scripts does not provide an email address or provide a secure member portal to contact them. Members have to call Express Scripts but the customer service representatives are never able to understand the issue. Thus, I have been UNABLE TO REFILL ANY PRESCRIPTIONS for months due to the exorbitant costs that Express Scripts would have charged me. I’ve made NUMEROUS calls and emails, including a 3-way call that I set up with Aetna and Express Scripts.

Aetna finally called me back yesterday and informed me that because Express Scripts had not updated my records, my deductible has not been met and "since the medical providers have already been paid, you will need to keep going to medical appointments for the rest of the year and pay out of pocket." That is an UNACCEPTABLE solution. I do not need to go to medical appointments for the rest of 2023 FOR NO REASON. I understand their model is to move people to mail order and make things a nightmare. What blows my mind is that if you attempt to move to mail order and it fails and you don't receive your prescriptions, it's on you. The first time I tried, it sat in pending status for over a week and never provided a reason for the failure. I still had a few refills left thankfully. So I tried again a month later, this time they claimed they tried to reach my doctor and they never responded, but when I asked for the method of contact, the story kept changing, because I've never had my doctor fail to respond. So was skeptical of the story.

Ultimately, despite never having asked for an exception, they refused to give me one and basically told me my only option with them was to wait. So Express Scripts considers going off your meds an acceptable option. Ultimately, thank God there is GoodRX, and I will say that the recent ads showing why people with coverage still use it hit the nail on the head. Express Scripts is a garbage carrier, and if you don't want to just go off your meds, you best not be relying on Express Scripts.

I think when they talk about Medical Crisis, this kind of stuff needs to be folded in there, Express Scripts doesn't care whether you remain medicated and healthy, or if you have to skip meds for weeks. They are just concerned that you strictly adhere to their boneheaded processes and don't expect small accommodations, and basically their bottom line.

I'm not saving any money, they just charge me more if I don't buy through them. The worst part is, you call them and you speak with people who have absolutely no experience in the medical field, they're not pharmacists or pharmacy techs, they're just random call center workers.

At least when I go to the local pharmacy I deal with pharmacy techs who know what they're talking about. Typically an issue that would take 5 minutes to resolve at my local pharmacy requires that I spend 2 hours on the phone with ExpressScripts, getting put on hold, transferred, hung up on, over and over. The billions of dollars this company is making from regular hard working Americans' suffering is ostentatious! The fact that I can't switch to an insurance that doesn't use ExpressScripts, is a violation of anti trust laws. I'm appalled that they have not been taken to court over this yet.

They should not be allowed to decide over people’s medication nor should my union's medical plan allow it but will have to continue to get it approved. Bad situation.
