I increased the amount of my reverse mortgage, and it didn't take very long for the application process. It works well. There was some training that took a while, but that was not Finance of America. That was some other agents who had to do that. I ran into some health issues during the process, and the rep I worked with was very patient with the problem I was having trying to get the information together because it involved my eye, and I couldn't read very well. She was very helpful too. She told me that I had to hurry along and try to get it done as fast as I could because changes in the marketplace might be occurring. Finance of America did a good job, but the reverse mortgage is too expensive, and I didn't get as much money as I wanted.

The gentleman that I negotiated with had a very good attitude about all my questions. He was a friendly fellow to speak with. He was willing to help me and be understanding of my situation. I've gotten my initial payment from Finance of America Reverse, and it allowed me to pay off a lot of outstanding bills that I had.

Finance of America Reverse was very responsive to my needs. I doubt I could have gotten any better support than what I got from FAR, from the guy that I originally contacted. Every time I put a call to him, if he didn't answer the phone, I'd leave a message, and he would get back to me quickly. He would send me texts instead of calling up when he was trying to update me on where things stood and when to expect something. He was very attentive. Even when he was out of pocket for a short period of time and something came up regarding my mortgage application, another individual from FAR contacted me.
I ended up getting two appraisals of the property and went with the lowest. They sent me a printout of all the evaluations to review. We went ahead and they set up somebody out for closing. The underwriting was done by somebody other than my main contact at FAR. It took a little longer than I anticipated though. I thought it was gonna be dragged out more than it was, but all of a sudden, they were ready to go.

The process could have gone faster than it did had I kept the process moving. I took time off to do some thought. But it was fast enough. I enjoyed the work with the rep. She was friendly, helpful, and had a good sense of humor. And Finance of America was very swift in responding. The terms and rates were on the market and timely, so very competitive. Finance of America made me go through the education process again. And the person that I chose was also very helpful and pleasant, answered all my questions, gave me some things to think about, and was timely.

The lady that I was talking to was very sharp. Then she called me back and we got along very good. She was very nice and I liked her from the start. Everything went well. It was a good deal for me.

I've got flood insurance with my association where I live. We're all covered for flood insurance. It was a lengthy process, and the young man was very efficient. Any questions I had, he was upfront about it. He told me about this monthly fee I would pay, and he was excellent. The only thing I'm disturbed with is the appraiser appraised my property at 270. And they were selling for over 300. So, I don't know where he got that figure from. However, I got a $15,000 payout from reverse mortgage. I'm happy to get the money. But I'm shocked that every month, the interest is $1,400. I should have checked into that a little more. I know the interest rate was 9% or 8.5%. But at my age, I didn't do the proper arithmetic. So although I get $15,000 from mortgage within a year, they're getting that back at $1,400 a month. After they get their money back, I would start paying a mortgage.

The process was a little hectic because my rep Scott is so far away. But everything went smoothly and I've been really happy with them. The counselors were very knowledgeable and tried to help with any questions I asked. Scott is the best thing that ever happened in reverse mortgage. He has a great voice and he knows how to get things done.

The lady who did my loan, Nicole, was fantastic. I didn't have anything to worry about. She did a wonderful job and listened to my needs. She worked with me to make sure everything got done in a timely manner. She instructed me on what I needed to do every step of the way. I really sensed that she cared about helping me and the questions I asked her. She always got back to me with my information. The rate I got was a really good deal. I'm very happy with them. I'd definitely recommend Finance of America and Nicole.

I've been very pleased with Finance of America. Josh, the loan officer I worked with, put things together for me and he was awesome. We started on all the proceedings and went from there. We never had a timeline, but everything progressed as it should have in a very timely manner. In the beginning, I did not take all the funds that were available to me for the first year, and now, I've decided that I would like some more of them. To find out if I can withdraw some more, I tried to contact Caroline with Finance of America yesterday, but we weren't able to make contact. She and I were busy. Hopefully, I'll be able to make that happen today.

I contacted the number on their site and spoke with a young man who told me that at that time, the interest rates would be around 9%. So I decided to wait a few months and then he contacted me again and told me that they'd dropped down to around 6. We didn't know where property values were going to go because it's always iffy. So I decided it was the appropriate time for me to go ahead and I trusted the rep. He was a very knowledgeable young man and worked for a company that I trusted. It went very well. The whole process took just a few weeks. I'm 84 now and I feel confident that I did the right thing. It’s impacted my life to the extent that I'm not stressed about it.

This company continues to increase its fees and interest for an 80 year old woman, now $2250 when it was $300 initially. Our country's interest rates are decreasing and when asked customer service to justify I receive no response. I know she has an adjustable rate but Fees and interest have increased EVERY month sometimes as much as $200 each month without ANY explanation/justification. I'm hiring an attorney. Do NOT let seniors sign up for this, total scam. When asked to produce legal binding documents my mother signed, received no response! They are stealing my mother's money! No wonder why they receive 1.8/5 stars. They are crooks who poor seniors fall prey to. Please help stop this senior abuse. This company is unethical charging 7.8%. My mother has no idea what is happening and how much she owes or why.

I liked the person that I was dealing with at Finance of America Reverse better than any other company I dealt with. I dealt with about five of them at the same time. The application process was fine, timely, and simple. The person that represented them was very knowledgeable. If I had a question about something, Johnny-on-the-spot, they answered it. They followed up on everything. The stuff they wanted was reasonable and easy for me to produce. It was just an easy process. I only wish I had done this earlier. The rate would have been a lot lower. But it was better than what I was quoted from anybody else. I’d give others the Finance of America guy's phone number and name that took care of me. If they just call him, things will be taken care of.

As a customer, I'm shocked by what has transpired on my mortgage with Finance of America Reverse LLC. I received a letter stating my loan was in default and headed for foreclosure....over $85.00. My insurance is current as are my taxes, so??? After contacting the lender, they explained my insurance had lapsed for 28 days (??) IN 2021! The $85 was lender coverage they added. I said "If I didn't pay the $85 the bank would move to foreclose". I asked if I could pay it now over the phone? No, I needed to go to the website and fill out a form to confirmed I live in the home (they would foreclose on for $85) and then I could call back and pay.... Thanks for making it easy.
As a veteran Realtor, I was angry that I had a loan like this and WORSE, have promoted many reverse mortgages to my clients, not knowing that a few bucks out of a loan could cost them EVERYTHING! The biggest hurdle I have heard when bringing up a reverse mortgage to my clients is "The banks will try to steal your home!" Well?
++++ THIS IS AN UPDATE TO MY CONTINUED TREATMENT OF FINANCE OF AMERICA REVERSE MORTGAGE!!!! It's almost April (2023) and Rev Mortgage was sent a check for $24999.00 for partial payment from my insurance company. The instructions (per your company) were that they would hold the money and send that money back to me to give to my roofing contractor to replace a damaged roof. I sent the check Feb 17th express mail. The said it would take 5 days. Its March 20th and NO ONE at the loss draft department can tell me anything or transfer me to anyone who does.
I've been told several times I would receive a call back from a supervisor, never happened. I even received a letter from you stating what would happen if I didn't get my roof fixed!!!! When (or if) this gets fixed, I will 100% refinance my home with a company who can perform correctly and with competence. Two opportunities to retain a customer (A REALTOR) and two opportunities lost! <5 STARS.

Finance of America Reverse sent us an email with information that started the process for us. We communicated by email and telephone and did a lot of signing with DocuSign. Later on, we met with a person and did the actual signing. We had a great experience. They were there for us when we needed some guidance. We don't know anything about reverse mortgage, and they were able to guide us through the steps, explain the program, and assure and reassure us about the program and what happens after so many years. I'm glad we decided to work with them because everyone that we had dealt with over there are very knowledgeable, patient, and thorough, and we appreciate that.

I worked with Rich and he was terrific. He was prompt, kind, personable, and helpful. He made it work and got through all the hoops and stuff we had to go through. He did it with some class and dignity. It was a hard process but we got the reverse mortgage. It wasn't as good as we had hoped for but the big pitch for me is that I get to live in my house, which I dearly love, until I pass away. That's a significant change in retirement.

The representative that I worked with at Finance of America, Jonathan, was fantastic. He always kept me informed. If he asks for something, I got it to him and he's thankful. I could call him anytime. The counseling was good. I've been studying these for a couple of years, so if I didn't know so much, it would have been really a lot of knowledge but I loved listening to it. I really had a good experience and we're very happy, and we had our money there if we need it.

It went great with Finance of America Reverse, although the process was kind of a long, complicated thing. I made a phone call and I was told to call a counselor. I got counseling and I talked to my agent and it went very smoothly. She tolerated my ignorance to the loan process and she was very understanding. Everything went perfect.

The reps gave me all the information I needed and helped us a lot through the process. It took a while because we had some things that had to be ironed out but we got there. Finance of America Reverse is very good though I'm not happy with the rate. But they said maybe down the road, something could be done about that.

There's a big difference between Finance of America and our older reverse mortgage. There is more communication. The counseling was fast. We're dealing with Ali who is a very nice person. He is consistent. But when my husband has a question for him, we ignored the question because it seemed we already knew the answer.

So far, everything's been great with Finance of America Reverse. John was excellent. He was so nice, very personable, and I felt very comfortable. He never pushed me about trying to do the loan. The application was also simple. I just gave him my information. They were really quick.
However, when you get the loan, they make you pay the property taxes and the mortgage upfront for one year. There was some extra money that was going to be taken out that I wasn't expecting, but that’s not anything on Finance of America Reverse.

Getting my mortgage through them was a long process. They gave me some preliminary information and then I had to take a one-hour certification course online on understanding reverse mortgages. My wife and I did that and sent all the information to Finance of America. For the closing, they got a notary that worked with reverse mortgages and we signed all the papers with the notary. A month after that, we were notified that the paperwork was incorrect. We requested to have my wife as a non-borrowing spouse because she was below the minimum age. Otherwise, if something were to happen to me, she would not be able to stay in the house. It was the bank's fault. They had the wrong box checked. Unfortunately, you can't just go back and amend that because it's government-financed. So, we had to go through the process all over again.
Turning in the application was pretty much run-of-the-mill as far as other applications I've done online. But it was a pain ‘cause some things I have to ink-sign, scan, and then submit. Other than that, my rep was very communicative and worked with me really well. He was very helpful and friendly. I was very comfortable working with Finance of America. They were open about everything and they talked to me when something needed to be done. Whenever they found errors, they called those to my attention and assumed the responsibility and the financial burden. We got our reverse mortgage and we're in our house. So, we're happy.

Finance of America Reverse was very good about getting back to me and answering all the questions that I had. They were okay with me taking it at my pace instead of trying to rush me into it. The process was fairly easy. You just let them know you're interested then they start sending you the paperwork. It took some time because we had to get an appraisal. There was some work that needed to be done before that was cleared. But the rep was very good about following up on questions. If he couldn't answer, he would find the answer then call me right back. He was very knowledgeable about all the numbers that were on the papers that they were sending me and could explain everything. He was personable and was willing to listen to situations in my life and say, "That's not a problem. We'll work around that."

The application process was fairly easy. We were in a special circumstance, so the whole took about 4 weeks. The loan officer was understanding and easy to deal with and responsive. The rate was outrageous, but it's adjustable. But I don't hold it against Finance of America Reverse.

The reverse mortgage was for a friend of mine and I assisted him. The application process was lengthy but it was simple enough for what we were doing. Overall, it was workable. The interest rate got a little higher than we had hoped it would be because the country has gone to where it has gone in recent months so it was not the fault of Finance of America Reverse.

After dealing with a couple of people that gave me trouble, Finance of America explained the whole process to me and what I needed to do. The process was very smooth. My bank account got hacked and cleaned out but they were able to go around that problem to complete the mortgage. My rep was marvelous. She explained things to me in detail, showed me how much money I would be getting back, and how it was best to work. I had some business loans outstanding, and it was best to leave those in place and pay those off a little at a time so as not to damage the equity I had in my reverse mortgage.

We contacted Finance of America Reverse directly and they assigned me a rep. Heather was fantastic and she streamlined everything, which is what we needed. She was organized and persistent in a good way. We started before my dad died, and it was too hard right after to finish. There was too much going on. She was patient with us, and we had a couple of false starts getting going, but once it was time to get it done, she helped me help my mom.

They had the best program for us. There were lots of paperwork as usual, but it was manageable. The loan officer was really good. She was responsive, got back to me quickly, and had full access. I was happy. Everything is cool. They're required by law to call a third-party consultant and have them help you review all the documents. So calling the third-party consultant and paying for that was a big help too.

I called Finance of America and talked to Adam, and it was a great experience. My deal took quite a while because I had some problems with my credit account through no fault of my own. I had helped my son buy a pickup truck and I was on the note. He was making the payments but the bank that held the note sold the note to another bank, and we weren't told about that. In the first loan, they were automatically withdrawing payments for that truck. When they sold it to another bank, that bank didn't inform us that anything had changed and they weren't taking out those automatic payments. My son's wife who pays the bills didn't notice on the bank statement that those automatic payments were not coming out. All of a sudden, we get a letter saying, “We foreclosed on that truck ‘cause three payments hadn't been made.” My credit rating went from 750 to 605.
Adam had to work through that. Then there were a couple other glitches too that he had to work through, and they were very good about it. They consistently persevered and worked all through that and finally got it done. So, I was very pleased with the service I got. In fact, Adam would say, “Okay. I need some information.” I said, “Well, it's gonna take me a little while to get it.” He said, “That's fine.” He would call me about every week or 10 days. “Well, how are you coming?” He kept prodding me along to keep after the information that I needed to get to him. So, he was excellent.
Since working with Finance of America, I don't have to make those monthly mortgage payments anymore. All I need to do is keep up my insurance and my taxes. Then I got some cash upfront out of it, which I did need. So, it was a real benefit to me. Their communication was excellent and they kept me apprised of how it was going. I didn't have to chase after Adam. He communicated with me without being prompted to do so. He did it as a matter of course. So, the communication was good all the way through. It took over 10 months to get it done because of some problems, but he stuck with it and got it done.

I called over Finance of America Reverse and got information from them and figured that it was a good program. I wanted a line of credit and it seemed to be the kind of the thing I could do without having to qualify. They appraised the home and sent me a term sheet, I agreed to those terms, and they moved forward to get me the loan. Once I filed the application, it was approved quickly. I was gonna reach out to the rep and thank him for everything he did. He was amazing. He just told me straight up what he needed and it was just that. He didn't make any promises that couldn't be kept. It was easy. He explained everything to me well. He undersold it and over-delivered.

The agent we worked with was very nice and on top of her stuff. She made it very easy to send her what documents she needed, and she did everything on our behalf. Some of the documents, she pulled from the Fairfax County public records. We had to prove that my mom currently lives there, which she has lived there for 30 years, and that wasn't very difficult.
We did the counseling over the phone, so they just called my mom. She thought it was helpful to ask questions, but I also remember her saying it was fast, because for the whole reverse mortgage process, you get 45 minutes. She almost wanted a second session to talk through it again. Overall, Finance of America was easy to work with. I had a lot of questions related to a reverse mortgage. Even though we ended up going through with the process, there are so many options so it's hard to say whether or not we made the right choice 100%. However, they were always ready to answer the questions we had.

The process was fairly simple with Finance of America Reverse and it took four weeks to complete. It was straightforward and we did the closing in my home. We had an attorney. There were some questions, they got answered, and we proceeded with them. There were closing charges which were acceptable and the rate was acceptable, too. The loan is for the short run while we want to stay in the house that we're in in New York for another couple of years, then we're going to be selling that house and paying everything off and coming down to Florida where I am now. Our rep, Monica, was nice and very helpful. She answered my questions and she was a good communicator.

Finance of America Reverse tried to make the process as easy and automated as possible. Everything was done mostly online except for a couple of things where they sent me a FedEx envelope to put information in and send back. The rep I worked with, Dana, was really wonderful. She explained everything and walked us through it. I was doing this for my aunt and it took a long time for her to make up her mind but Dana was very patient and knowledgeable. The only thing is I would have preferred if the lady that came to the house when we closed worn up her mask. My aunt is 97. Also, I'm not happy with the rate. So much changed from February and March and towards the end, it started to increase so we ended up with a different product just to get my aunt the same amount of money. The interest rate is much higher than we wanted.

These are historic times, and we've never seen rate increases like this in such a short amount of time, which are largely determined by the FED. I had a relationship with Finance of America one other time years ago and their service, attention to detail, and customer relations are fantastic. I dealt with Ernie and if I can say years ago and remember his name off the top of my head, that must mean something. That's a good sign. This time, Scott handled our reverse mortgage and he was every bit as perfect as a banker relationship guy could be. Both of them were really very professional in what they presented to the customer and how they helped the customer through various issues.

The whole thing had me pissed and stressed out. It was aggravating. If I sit up there at closing, they say, “Everything is done. You don’t have to worry about the insurance. Everything is fine.” But when I sit up there and thinking I'm about to lose my insurance, and my insurance company called and telling me to pay out of my pocket, I had a problem with that. I didn’t like that one bit.

I liked the agent I worked with at Finance of America Reverse. I got along with the agent. Primarily, the process was done over the phone. I faxed and photocopied a few documents, but it was much simpler than I anticipated. We own our home outright, and we were about to start having issues with paying our property taxes. The reverse mortgage was the best way to go. It's helped immensely.

Finance of America was very good, professional, and responsive. It was a lot of information, but it's necessary if you wanna go through it. A lot of redundancy is included. It's a big pain in the neck. It could have been done more efficiently. But the rep was efficient almost to a point of excess. He was right there for us. He made sure we understood exactly what we were doing, and he explained it in a very thorough and quick response way. I was happy with him.

Finance of America Reverse appeared to be the best deal. The application process was rather easy. I put in everything that I needed to do and there was a callback. I talked to the agent and he was very upfront with everything. Everything sounded good. The agent that I had was based out of New Jersey and closer to where I live, Pittsburgh. He was excellent. It was a little rough on the rate. I still have to contact Finance of America back because I would like to pay back what I can when I can. Other than that, everything was on the up and up and satisfying.

I had a very positive feeling with Finance of America Reverse, and the people that I dealt with were very professional. They did their due diligence and they were always there for me. They responded quickly if I left a message and I like that because, normally, with any other company, you have to wait for 25 minutes. You're lucky if they call you back the same day. So, I was very pleased with that. The application process wasn't that difficult. It was very specific. I was glad when it came to fruition.

The beginning was easy and fairly quick, but when it got down to the underwriters, they seemed to find a T that wasn't crossed or an I that wasn't dotted. That was a fairly long process somewhat, but it was still done within the time frame that they said they would do it. Barry was the man representing the company, and he was very efficient. Overall, Finance of America Reverse accomplished what we were trying to do. The property was appraised at far more than what the value is but everybody else seemed to say the appraisal was good. The only strange thing was I got a phone call from someone that was handling the complaint that had been filed against the appraising company. They asked me some questions about who and what.

I hated the little nitty things that I could prove that this has been my major residence during the period of the loan being active. They were snots. When you deal with people especially if they might be in trouble or compromised, don't come on like a bully and over-threatening. You start off with a little sympathy or politeness. They were saying, “We're gonna cancel your account in two days if you don’t do this.” I would suggest a little more polity and decency in dealing with customers. They were also cursory during the counseling. They talk in a few short sentences per question. But I have recommended Finance of America Reverse and resorted to them a second time. The paperwork was such that even though I went through the mill to satisfy all of their information needs, they got it ready to go. But my first check was supposed to have been delivered on the first of this month, and I didn't even know that. I called and told them I needed the money.

The application process was difficult and frustrating. It could have been made a lot easier. There were some things that were not covered by the initial consultation and it should have been more thorough on the what-ifs. Also, Finance of America seemed like they had multiple departments there that weren't talking to each other. One would send me a letter saying I didn't do something but another would say I did it fine. It was not a pleasant experience. At the very end, they said that the whole thing would be canceled if I didn't quickly run to the bank and pay $100 in fees. They didn't know that I had paid the taxes on the property, so they went ahead and paid the taxes, which went over the estimated amount and the estimated amount of fees. It was so disorganized.
The primary guy helping me through did a pretty good job but it seemed like he was hostage to the departments. The whole thing made it seem like I was the only person in the universe who was paying off a reverse mortgage with a reverse mortgage and that totally confused them. Another problem was that our city took longer than usual, delayed to transfer, and I was constantly getting letters that I was overdue. Even though this guy was guiding me through and I kept him informed, the other departments kept sending me threatening letters. I'm used to frustrating, convoluted processes, but even this pushed me to the edge. Going back and thinking about it, I still would have done it because it's right for my very rare situation. But I can see an elderly couple who's intimidated by weird things happening getting totally frustrated and giving up. Finance of America needs to really look at the whole process.

Rather than the HUD loan, I took a proprietary product that they offered. I truly didn't know what I was doing but I trusted Alex and talked to my counselor about it. So, it went well for me.

I was trying to refi with Finance of America Reverse a couple of times and called in. The person didn't return calls and then, this woman got ahold of my information and called and explained everything. She said there was a little confusion in the turnover of the position but now she’s there and she’s not leaving. She was going to do everything from start to finish. Everything was perfect with her. She checked in with me constantly and answered every question. She was nice, easy to talk to and made sure I understood everything. She was very patient. Doing loans are never fun and all things considered, she made everything easy and organized. She was fantastic. The process was surprisingly smooth and simple.

Linda, the lady who worked with us, was a go-getter. She got back to us and was courteous and interested in our business. She was excellent and was probably the main reason we decided to go with Finance of America Reverse. The rate and terms were very competitive with everything else. They were supposed to be a little less expensive than some of the other companies. I looked online and they were highly recommended. The lady sold us on it plus the research. We knew everything they asked us and counseled us on but it was fine. It was short. The guy was very competent and did a good job.
The application process was a lot longer and more difficult than we thought. We've never tried to do something like this before and we didn't know anything about that process before we jumped into it. But it was a lot like buying a house. The DocuSign worked most of the time. But it was just towards the end, for some reason, it wasn't getting both of our signatures. It was just one of those weird things that just happens every now and then.

Finance of America didn't communicate. My questions were not answered. They just wanted to hurry up and close it. I had to have a counselor help me fill the application form out. They should go through the whole thing, line by line. They're the financers, not the person that's getting the financing. They need to explain their terms in a lot more in detail than just saying, “Are you stupid? Are you deaf? Are you blind?” They should not talk down to their clients.

The lady that worked with me to get everything set up was very good. They solved the problem at the end of the closing for me right away. The communication was excellent. It was in the middle of the pandemic and the lady I was working with got COVID. She mentioned that her phone was available and sent somebody else to get it if I needed it. My experience with Finance of America Reverse was very different from my first experience with my first reverse mortgage. It was very nerve-racking. When I first got my first reverse mortgage, it was very easy and everything was good. This time, I had to refinance with somebody that's not even in California. I've also got bazillion pieces of paper that absolutely don't mean anything because it's written in a language that most people like me don't understand. They also sent somebody over for me to sign all this paperwork, even though I've already signed all the paperwork, all I need to do is get access to some more money. The lady was here for almost two hours.
There was also no help at the beginning with the people that were here. I was withdrawing a lot of money because I had lost my job and I wasn't eligible for Social Security yet. Then, when I did get Social Security, I didn't even think about reducing the money I was getting. That was my fault, but somebody should have said, "Do you wanna cut back on this?" I would have liked that to have happened. I wouldn't recommend them.

I had a difficult experience with Finance of America Reverse because I was trying to do my current home and at that point, they didn't handle that level of property. They couldn't go up to the numbers I needed, so it wasn't very helpful. Had they gotten back to me, I would have been able to do it in the house that I was in and they also didn't get back to me fast enough. I used their service, eventually, but to do a purchase. The person I worked with directly was fine, but the rest of the staff was just awful and difficult. I have refinanced homes multiple times. I've never gone through anything as crazy as their system. The fact that they wouldn't get the paperwork over to the title company and then they wouldn't do this. That was not pleasant at all. There were three different departments and it was like they might as well have been in different countries. It was horrendous. The fact that it ever got closed, I'm amazed.

My experience with Finance of America Reverse was positive. It took three months but that was mostly because it took a while for my folks to get their stuff together. The communication was great. The gentleman that we worked with was wonderful. He was very helpful and followed up on everything. He made sure that we had all the information we needed. He even let me know when rates were going up. I was very pleased. They had to do the credit counseling part which was great but that wasn't very clear as far as how we could set that up or how that information got back to them. That took us a little longer. My situation was a little different though. My folks are older, so I was doing it for them and we're in different states. Our situation was a bit more complicated which makes it even more impressive that they give such high reviews.

We worked quite a bit with Cecilia and she was very clear on what we were to do and why we had to do it in terms of filling out paperwork. She was very friendly and she worked with a local gal here that also helped guide us who was a representative of FAR for a while. So, Cecilia was a reverse of what you always hear of loan officers can be. We had numerous conferences and she helped us battle the red tape, which, unfortunately, FAR has quite a bit of. Eventually, we finally got approved but they should improve the timeliness. They took quite a while to get our reverse mortgage approved. We're also having a terrible time with them right now.

I asked a thousand stupid questions, and the lady I was talking to from Finance of America answered. She was very nice, very knowledgeable, and patient. I could call her with questions even when she wasn't at work. I got her a couple of times at home. The application process was more of a red tape. It was a 1-inch folder I have of them. I read the stuff. I went through it about three times. I think it was more legalese than for a normal person.

When I refinanced this last time, the appraisal was a hassle. I got an appraisal at 700,000 and they didn't like it. They had another appraiser come in and he appraised it for 600,000 and they liked it. But that didn't seem perfectly fair to me. I would have averaged the two. But the rep I worked with was Mark and he was good. He said, “My role is to answer questions and make you comfortable. Anytime that's not working, let's hang up the phone.” That is a sales technique not taught in school, but it worked for me. His skill was recognizing I was the sort of person who want to be dealt with that way. You can't come at everybody the same way. You have to read your prospect.

The process with Finance of America Reverse went fairly well. The experience has been good, so far. I get a report every month. The agent was really good. The rates were okay, except the Fed is raising their rates all the time now. So, it's a variable rate. Sometimes it's gonna go up.

There were some situations that had to expire before we could move forward. So, from the time that everything was set to go, the application process with Finance of America Reverse was a reasonable period of time. It was totally what I expected. I've been on a reverse mortgage for seven years and the refinance went through because of the appreciation of my house. I was happy with it. The individual I worked with was very helpful.

The process with Finance of America Reverse was interesting because I'd never been through that before. I had to go through the credit counseling and they wanted to make sure that this is what I wanted to do. When they sent a notary out to my house to notarize all the paperwork that I signed, the final paperwork, all went very well.
The notary told me I would be getting a copy of all the signed documents in the mail but I never got it and I kept contacting Finance of America and they sent me a paper here and there. I finally came across the notary's name and I went to them online and they sent me the file and I'm printing it right now. That took months because I didn't get any help from Finance of America on that. They acted like they didn't know what I was asking for. I said I wanted copies of all the notarized documents and they didn't know what I was talking about. But the rep was very helpful. Anytime I contacted him by email or left him a message, he got in touch with me right away.

It was a long process. A lot to do. But Finance of America Reverse helped me all the way. There were some hiccups. But overall, it was very good. Having to get the appraisal was difficult. I wasn't happy with how the appraiser worked. They didn't tell me that there were a couple of things that they could have told me right then that I could have repaired, like a socket plate missing. I found out about that later on and they said they would have to do a reappraisal because they couldn't approve it with that. So, the appraiser, after much pushing from me, agreed that, since I sent her a picture, I could replace the socket plate. She agreed to waive the reappraisal. But that took a while. But she's the reason that I stayed with it, because she was very helpful all the way.

Amber who was my contact was excellent. She kept me informed of everything that was going on. And it went very smoothly. Finance of America Reverse emailed me forms whenever I needed to go over and sign them. It was a very good process. The title searches were delayed at the most, but it was not very long. It was done in a month. Also, the rate was higher than we initially talked about. But they have no control over that. The Fed raises rates and the rates go up everywhere. Other than that, it was a professionally done, pleasant experience.

We did a reverse mortgage some time back, and because of real estate values skyrocketing and the interest rates still being extremely low, we felt it was a good opportunity to do a refinance of the reverse mortgage. The process went quickly since so much of the information was already there, especially the stuff that are painful to do, like the basic information, names, addresses, and phone numbers. Also, I was guided through the process by one of the representatives. We took it in stages, the first things we had to do, then we needed to get an appraisal, which I didn't have to pay for. Because of us being on a fixed income, putting out money upfront was a concern especially how much it might be.
The key to anybody that deals in services for people, especially this kind of thing, is people skills. If you have somebody who's a little curmudgeon, they're gonna make the process more difficult and alienate people. The representative from Finance of America Reverse was personable, friendly and professional, as well as stayed on purpose, not being derailed or sidetracked by any various miscellaneous distractions.

I called Finance of America Reverse and they gave me the plan, showed me the brochure and sent me an analysis. That was good enough for me. I liked what they sent. They were very easy to work with. The guy was great and the process was seamless. It’s always difficult putting stuff together and finding it but they were very helpful and did it as fast as they could. The person who I dealt with just asked me for documentation, and that was all I gave to him. I sent it to him and then he handled whatever the underwriter requires. I would recommend Finance of America Reverse.

Jason ** is a reverse mortgage specialist who did the impossible! He enabled my elderly mother to stay in her own home and avoid the heartbreak of being placed in a memory care facility. She has 24/7 care which is prohibitively expensive. I really had no place to turn until a mortgage broker gave me Jason's name. During our initial phone conversation, Jason explained in detail what a reverse mortgage is, exactly how it worked and dispelled my fears. He was endlessly patient every single step of the way--from loan application to closing. He laid out exactly what I needed to do and was ALWAYS available, by phone or email. A girl had me all set up. We filled out the applications and was about ready to fund it until I found out that we couldn't qualify for the program until my wife turned 62. So, we had to wait until her birthday to close. In the meantime, the girl who got me set up left the company so I didn't hear anything for a long time. Finally, I got a hold of Finance of America and the supervisor was very helpful and took me through the process. But the interest rate changes so what I was told it was going to be up front wasn't what it ended up being. They were a little high but they weren't too bad. Other than that, once we got done, it was fine.

My rep Alex was a really fine gentleman. There were a couple of things that I was having a problem with and he helped me. My wife's ID was expired and we didn't know that 'til the papers were going through. They had to have her ID and I had to have people come over and witness for her ID because she has COPD and I didn't want her to go outside to do anything. Alex was so kind and he kept calling back. He would say, "Don't worry, Jack. We got your back. Everything's good." I thought everything was gonna fall apart and I was worried at the time because the economy was going crazy. Everywhere I turned, Alex and the bank, they were so kind. They said, "We understand what you're going through. No problem. We'll get through." I couldn't have had a better experience.

Finance of America's process was a little confusing. I had refi-ed about less than a year before and realized I should have just done a reverse mortgage. That was what I wanted to do anyway. You got to wait for a full year between one refi and another for the reverse. It took a little longer than we wanted it to but it wasn't Finance of America's fault. It was just the calendar. That aside, I'm happy with Finance of America. My rep was great. I got my own counselor too.

We had a reverse mortgage with Finance of America then we refinanced. The process was very good. I had put the refinance on hold so it took more than a few weeks. I finalized it in April. The price we got was good. We have been very happy with the experience so far. Finance of America has always taken good care of us when I talk to them. We had not much to do and just do the monthly statement. Once in a while, I talk to the loan officer who is very kind.

Ryan from Finance of America sent me the paperwork and I got a good idea of what it would cost. Ryan was excellent. Any questions I had, he answered. I had things I was worried about and he gave me all the time in the world to find out what it was all about. Everything worked out beautifully. It was just a great process. I deal with anxiety and I had no anxiety throughout the process. That says a lot.
I started the process around the beginning of November. There was too much at stake and I had to have a definitive answer about certain situations. Ryan understood and he was so patient with me. From start to finish, it took about six months or more. That was all on me as I procrastinated. There was also some confusion with the rates and terms. When I started out, the rate was low and it was very acceptable. Rates are volatile now so I'm taking my time figuring out everything. But with the laws in place, Finance of America will not be taking advantage of me. I'm content.

I called different reverse mortgage companies to get some information and several of them sent a few things back. Finance of America Reverse did it quickly and I liked what I read. I went with them quickly and what they had to offer was standard. They had a good process and the people were friendly. They got to me right away and if I had any questions, they found the answers for me. They followed through with the program that they were offering and they knew what they were talking about. They were professional the whole time. There were some things that I did online and later they sent me another one. Everything online was good. The walkthrough was simple and computer-friendly.

I called up a lady with Finance of America and she wanted some paperwork and went through it. They sent me the paperwork and I signed it off. A notary then came to the house. The application process was easy. This one took a little bit longer. Somehow FHA bounced it out because they wanted a second appraisal on it. They told me they don't give any reasons and they just do it. That aside, my loan rep was good and I used her before. She made things easy and I had a good experience. The rate and terms I got were much better.

I interviewed five companies and Finance of America Reverse stood out amongst them all. We started off really well. But then we got a shady appraiser and in my 45 years of real estate, I've never heard of an FHA appraisal being invalidated. I had a total of three appraisals and that took me close to three months because of the first appraiser. It shouldn't have taken that long but it wasn't Finance of America's fault. It was just circumstances. They can't pick an appraiser and I can't either. They're all pooled. My rates went up twice during the three-month period that I was trying to get the loan. Again, Finance of America had no control over that. On the whole, they was fantastic. The service and the devotion to me and to my needs were phenomenal. My rep didn't quit and she backed me up all the way. I was very comfortable working with her.

Improper Appraisal Delay. The direct reverse lender Finance of America Reverse LLC., delayed the appraisal. After refusing to take any responsibility and falsely claiming that they had not delayed or cancelled the appraisal, without apology, they eventually agreed to honor only the original loan application terms-- even though they caused the 120 day HUD terms and rates lock to expire. The exact words from the manager Tobiah via email were, “We will honor the terms executed when the application was signed.”
Scam. However, not surprisingly, the closing paperwork that they snuck in and we signed had completely different terms than our original application or quote, with a higher rate, added fees, etc. Even after mentioning the above bait and switch tactics, they still refused to correct their shady behavior, selectively ignoring numerous emails asking for clarification. While they eventually responded, they did not answer all of our specific questions. The evidence indicates that they used deceptive tactics and affected the delay and cancellation of our first appraisal, despite their fabrications made to the contrary. Furthermore, the last fixed rate quote they agreed to within our 120 lock period was for better terms, including a low fixed rate, which they refused to honor.
Trust. They also improperly refused to accept our Certification of Trust, instead demanding the entire trust. This action unambiguously violated California Probate code 18100.5., stating that “(a) The trustee may present a certification of trust to any person in lieu of providing a copy of the trust instrument to establish the existence or terms of the trust.”
I provided numerous opportunities for both the loan officer Rich ** in Carlsbad, and his manager Tobiah (Toby) ** correct their actions. However, it is clear that they have been getting away with these and other tactics for a long time and think that they are above the law. While they are nice salesman in the beginning, after rates went up, they scammed us to lend at the higher rates. It seems obvious that they do not have sufficient staff, including having a resolutions team to solve problems, as most other direct lenders. But it is the lack of honesty that is most problematic.

The application process at Finance of America Reverse was grueling and a little lengthy. I didn't know if I was a special case or not, but it took forever to get things approved through the different channels. The one thing I didn't like was the multiple appraisals I had to get on the house, because they were pretty far apart in appraisal amounts. That wasn't very pleasing. Just all the questions I had to answer, all the financial stuff I had to get. I'm retired so it seemed like I had to get a lot more than the average person. It got done, though.
Had I not needed that money, I would not have gone through it. It was just too cumbersome. We started in February, and we didn't even end up until the end of April. To me, that was uncalled for. The rates were also a little high. But the loan officer that I worked with was a really great guy. He bent over backward for me. He explained everything very well. He got the documents sent to me that I asked for. He was always there when I had questions and was easy to get ahold of. Always returned my calls if I had to leave a message.

My experience with Finance of America Reverse went great. It took a very long time, but it was not their fault. I got COVID and I was sick for two months from it. The agent, Julie, was the nicest person I've ever dealt with in my life. Helpful and answered all my questions. I don't think it could have gone better. I got what I consider a very good rate and I’m very happy with the whole thing. However, with the amount of paperwork that they have, they could kill a quarter acre of forest to make all those pages. It was repetitive stuff. But I guess that's the process. That was what they told me.

We were going to go with another company, and they were taking so much time and when the Finance of America guy called us, he had the same rate but a little bit better deal. Also, he said you can get it done as fast or faster. The process was professional. It took a little bit more time than we thought. It took at least two months. There were a lot of little things that they wanted that underwriting really didn't need, but the agent was able to take care of them and really get through it. We got through and it finally worked out.
Our loan officer, Dave, was very good. He knew the answers and he was very informed. I felt pretty good once we got confirmed that the loan was going to be done. Their rates were excellent. It was a reverse so the terms are set and it didn’t really matter to us if it took a week or a couple of weeks. We were satisfied. Finance of America is excellent for people that are looking for reverse mortgages in retirement to get an understandable product and good service.

I wasn't completely happy with the process at Finance of America Reverse. But when I really sat down and looked at it, it wasn’t Finance of America's fault. We had some issues with the appraisal getting done because I live in rural South Montana. There are not a lot of appraisers out this way. The appraisal wasn't done right the first time so he had to redo it. Then at closing, the first gal that was here went back and faxed all of the papers back. Half of the page was cut off. So that had to be redone. They sent a different notary, and we were sitting there signing papers, and I said, “The date changed.” They had changed the date. After that, it took three times to close, finally got it done.

For a period of two years, other people have been trying to do the reverse mortgage, but they wouldn't do it and these people did it. Everything was fine. Working with them was great. I liked her ability to seem really interested, just calling me everyday on the phone about seeing if I wanted to do the reverse mortgage. She was good. But once we pulled the trigger, she fell off the face of the earth. The lady that was in charge doesn't have a clue what she was doing. It took five months to get a reverse mortgage. I got ahold of her assistant about three times, and then she fell off the face of the planet too.
Finance of America is like this nebulous cloud. I tried my best to call the corporate to complain but I can’t get ahold of them. It’s like the corporate office doesn’t exist anyplace. All I could get is, if I have already started something, it automatically routes right back to the same person. So, I had to go and look up local phone numbers of Finance of America and talk to people there. Finally, someone in Winnemucca said, “Well, this is insane. Here, let me make a call.” She was on top of it. She wouldn't give me the phone number, but she made a call. Somebody else called and asked me what was going on. They never said who they were. The next day, that lady called with a bunch of excuses. And I didn't hear from her again for another five weeks.
Once she fell off the face of the planet and I started researching Finance of America, I realized that the BlackRock owned the company. And the BlackRock basically destroyed the housing market in Reno two years ago to a year and a half ago. They swept in, bought up all the houses, flipped them around for rentals, raised the cost of rentals, [unclear 0:07:40] people sleeping in trailers and crap now because everything’s so high. And that's all BlackRock. There are some evil companies around that don’t care about anything but money, and BlackRock is one of them. Had I known that they were a large owner of that, I would not have went with Finance of America.

I enjoyed working with Andrew a lot. He made everything easier. However, I wish we had been able to get it done at the time we first initially did it. The reason we couldn't was because of problems with appraisers. We had two horrible, incompetent appraisers. Unfortunately, we ended up having to wait to do it for a year. It took for another three months and that was unfortunate, but it's not something I blame the company on. They put up with a lot of stuff too.

The process took a little long though because the appraiser couldn't get there sooner. I live in Florida, and real estate is moving so fast. We decided to choose Finance of America Reverse because it was the more efficient process. It was fluid. The only concern was that the communication with the underwriters’ section wasn't necessarily conveyed that a valid unexpired driver's license was required. It's just an ID that was required. We got all of that fixed for my mother. But that threw a little wrench and delayed the process a week. The communication with the underwriters could be improved in terms of what they require at the final stage of the process. Jackie was my rep and she was great. I liked knowledge, skill set, her personalization, and her follow-through. She was able to give us options. I was overall satisfied with the experience.

I went through a very detailed, lengthy process because I understand HELOC and HECM mortgages and I selected the HECM for all the right reasons. I got everything I needed. It was a lengthy process, primarily because, on Finance of America's end, they require so much because of the FHA. That is two appraisals then the difficulty was that as soon as we had two appraisals in, we've got to have the process completed within 60 days of the first appraisal. Otherwise, we have to do another appraisal.
Over a course of 18 months, we did approximately four appraisals, of which I paid for everything except for the two that were required. I will not totally that put on Finance of America though. They were being fairly slow in getting things completed, but we were also not available when necessary to be able to move things along quickly. However, in the last four months, I was pretty adamant about making sure that the process was thorough, completed and timely. I was very happy with the way everything went and the final closer.
I found the people were knowledgeable. The one I was working with wasn't always available, but he would respond if I texted. If I left voicemails, never, or if I try to call, I could never reach him. If he referred me to contact the office manager, the office manager went right back to voicemail. That was frustrating, but other than that, the experience overall completed. I got the first statement three days ago.

I was going by a Tom Selleck commercial and got hooked up with Finance of America. I started off, got the information and got back to them in a year. I found out that they were Finance of America and not the Tom Selleck company. Before I continued, I did some research and it seemed like Finance of America had better reviews for customer satisfaction, so I just kept it. I'm glad I did. It worked out and that really helped me.
Cindy was the person who helped me, and she was awesome through the whole thing. I got a little nasty when I found out it wasn't the Tom Selleck company and she walked me through previous customer stuff and I stuck with her. She answered all my questions that I needed, and she was good, prompt, and got back to me. Cindy speaks volumes for Finance of America as far as what she did for me.

Finance of America Reverse was good. I had thought about it with my husband when he was living. But we didn’t want to go with them because at that time, nobody told us about there was one near us. I didn’t want to get anything, because we’re used to doing banking where we see people. Then, I had a lawyer and he suggested Amber to me. He said that he used her when he was refinancing his house. That was where we got the ball rolling. Amber followed through, and we got it done. She was very helpful and I was very pleased with her. I'm glad I got in when I did.

Tyler was my go-to man. Whenever I needed something, I would ask him and he’d say, “No, that's not a problem, or “Let me see what I can do.” He was on the ball. There was a checklist of things that had to be done and he helped me get through that. However, there were a lot of little irritations. Finance of America Reverse wanted a proof of address. I had already mailed out my bill for the water or gas or electric. They need to come up with something a little more a streamlined. I've had a reverse mortgage and it seemed harder to get this time There was more paperwork. The first time, the loan officer who was a broker just automatically answered the few questions that came up.

The process was very good. One of the problems Finance of America had is I'm 83 years old and they forget I need to be talked to at least once in a while. I sat here and wondered what was happening. At my age, I like to hear from someone once a week so that they know I'm still living and I know they're still working on it. Apart from that, the person who helped me, Ollie, was really wonderful through the whole process. He made me feel like he was working very hard for me to get this through and in a good time. We got things paid off, and everything is so much easier now. It was wonderful.

The refinance process took longer than expected. Normally, it would have been in a very short time, but because of my husband's health, it wasn't. Apart from that, Jason, my loan officer, was fantastic. He was always there. He always got back to me very quickly and he was always concerned about me, made sure that I understood everything. He made everything go very easily. The only thing that I have against Finance of America is I never got any final papers. I had to contact Jason to ask him to have someone send them out to me.

Dana with Finance of America Reverse was super to work with. She was responsive, anytime and any day of the week. She was fair. I told her my home's valued more and she said we could do this other plan. We decided to go with that and I had to get counsel again. It was another $135 so that was a little bit of an irritant. I had a couple of quotes from a couple other folks, but between her and the fair quality of the product, it felt good. The process went very smoothly. At a time, I thought it was being dragged along a little bit. But it was because I'm on property with a well and a septic tank and there were some questions about the underwriter taking that on. But it was closed within 60 days after I started, so I was happy.

I had a loan with Finance of America Reverse and they had this maintenance insurance which I didn't know anything about. I got a bill that was around $1,400. If they would have told me they had that, I would have been a lot better off. They wouldn't move my amount of money that I could get up to where it was appraised at. That left me short of money later and I still don't have that settled. I don't like them at all. They are always wanting something and I'm in the process of doing that now. It's terrible. It was a long process and I didn't get to read anything. They throw those papers at me telling me where to sign. They rushed it through once I filled out about three different books of papers. I was impressed with the man that did all this and he sounded like he was interested in helping me but I haven't heard from him ever since.

My specific need was to have a high payout upfront and Finance of America Reverse was able to do that. Plus, they were able to give me a higher total payout that is altogether. I spoke to the agent, and she guided me through the process. She saw that rates were going to change and she managed to get things through so that things were signed and put into place so that we didn't have to start all over again and that I did not lose the better rate that she had secured for me. She went above and beyond.

They were fantastic, particularly Chuck, the person that was the initial loan officer. At the very beginning of the process, he made a comment about the fact that they never sell any of their loans. That struck a chord in me because when I was a young man and my wife and I bought our first house, I went to a local bank and it was fantastic. But then, about two years into the mortgage, they sold it to a loan company and it definitely wasn't local and it was a pain in the butt company to deal with.
The process at Finance of America Reverse was one of those things that surprised me with how easy it was. They were upfront about the fact that it's gonna be based on whatever the appraisal comes in at. 60% of the appraised value is the max that you could borrow. I told the rep, "If it's less money, that's fine with me because I know it will still be enough."

Finance of America's reps were aggravating. They were not responsive and weren't returning phone calls and emails. When they did, it was like, "I'll get back with you." I would wait and wait and had to get back to them. Things didn't really start turning around until I contacted another company and the people were very gracious, very efficient, very fast, and did what they were supposed to do. When Finance of America was informed of my going with this other company that they get on the ball, the young lady started telling me about why it would probably be beneficial to stay with them and they could do the same thing. So, they got a little bit more responsive but that was almost towards the end when I said, "Look, I'm going with somebody else." I got an apology and they did do better. So, it worked out favorably for me. So, I'm glad I decided to look into it.

Finance of America went out of their way to make me feel comfortable with the process. They explained my options and showed me everything in writing. It was very clear. Also, they answered all my questions. They gave my attorney all the documentation on a timely basis. They offered to close in my house. They coordinated everything, ordered my title and appraisal. They did everything. They were a good organization to deal with. They did a good job. And John was very knowledgeable and patient.

The process with FAR went very smoothly. There were a couple of hitches along the way just getting paperwork in and getting it signed off. But we were able to get the rate locked before everything started jumping. Had to do a second appraisal, which was understood. They had explained ahead that they might have to do that. It's funny that it came in even higher than the first one. But everything closed. The rate lock was honored. We were very pleased with the whole process. We had to change loan officers in midstream. The young lady we first worked with who was quite pleasant left the company. But the gentleman who took over was very efficient, personable and did a great job. Essentially, it moved along seamlessly. We were very impressed. It was handled extremely well.

I was the representative for a friend doing a reverse mortgage. His wife passed away and he really needed to get into a reverse mortgage. Almost everything ran through me. We started with AAG but it was a nightmare of just starts and stops. I did some research on companies that I thought were good and ended up with Finance of America. The representative was unbelievable. We had some other issues that were really not necessary but the rep we worked with was absolutely fantastic.
The application process was fine and fairly easy. But the underwriting process was a nightmare. I sell real estate so I work with a lot of firms. We ended up having two appraisals because one came in and because of FHA, they required another one. One of the appraisals had a condition on it. They became completely unreasonable with how to determine that condition. I had two firms tell them that it was a minor problem but they insisted that I get a structural engineer. If I had not been in the real estate business, I wouldn't have had access to somebody to get that done at anything close to a reasonable cost. I would be told one day something was okay then I'd come back and the poor rep would say, “No, they told me it's not okay.”
Underwriters don't have skin in the game and neither do appraisers. I'd been in business for a long time. When you don't have skin in the game, you don't have a reason to do your job as effectively as possible. I wish that this was a limited experience but I experienced some of the same problems with underwriters everywhere. It's their job to generically view stuff and it doesn't make any difference to them whether the loan goes through or not.
We did the counselling and the one that Finance of America used did a better job compared to AAG. The gentleman I was working with, Ron, had been a lifelong real estate agent and it was somewhat useful. He did a much cleaner job. I would recommend Finance of America. If it hadn't been for our agent Barbara, it would have been a very bad experience.

In the beginning, our agent that sold us the product was nice. We jumped through all the hoops. But all of a sudden, there were more hoops. Every time we did something, it seemed to be something else had to be done. Finance of America came in, did an assessment on the house and it was low. We live in a neighborhood where a house sold across the street from us for a million dollars. And ours is a beautiful home. It needs a bit of renovation, which we're doing. We just did all new windows. We're putting a new garage up. So our house is easily $750,000 to $800,000 but they came in at like 525,000. It was bad.
We were promised that once we do all the repairs, that in 13 months, we can refinance again through them with no fees and get the rest of the equity that we would have gotten. My optimism for that happening as they said is not very high. Once we jumped through all the hoops and everything cleared, and we got the money, everybody disappeared. The broker wasn't returning my calls. And I got a lot of, “Oh, we don't do that. You have to talk to these people.” I said promises were made. “We don't have anything to do with that. That's between you and the person who sold you the loan.” So, we're not filled with confidence over the way things were conducted. We were railroaded a little. We were taken advantage of.

Finance of America was horrible. I wanted to reduce the interest rate and they ended up adding almost $70,000 to what I owe on principal. They promised that there would be no closing cost but there was over thousands of dollars in closing cost. I paid $750 for an appraiser then they charged me another $1,400 on top of that for the appraisal. Their rep kept telling me not to worry and that this would all be straightened up on the final thing.

Finance of America Reverse was great. The guy that helped me answered all my questions. I was going to take and do it about six months ago, and I didn't like the way it felt. So, I told him that I would think about it for a while. About six months later, I decided and he's picked up right where we left off and walked me through everything. I would tell anybody to go to him.

My Finance of America Reverse loan officer was great. The originator was ridiculous though. It took weeks to close, and we were not notified of what was needed until the very last minute, and then we were scrambling to get what was needed as needed. It dragged for months. Even my lawyer was up in arms because she was asking for things at the very last minute, and we had deadlines to close. So, I can’t stress enough that it was a horrible experience. We had one appraisal in October. Then, things took longer. We had to get another appraisal at the end of January. The numbers were really down from where they were in October. We had other people evaluating the appraisal, and they came up with higher numbers than the appraisal we did in January. So, we were upset about that. The originator wouldn't consider it.

I called Finance of America because we're doing business with them and I just asked them about the possibility of doing a refinance. They referred me to Reggie and I talked to him. He explained things to me very well. Reggie was very helpful. I was impressed by the fact that he always had the correct information to give me and he returned my calls. He wasn't hard to get ahold of. Whenever I had a question, he had the answer. He gave me phone numbers of people I had to contact such as the one to get counselling since we had to do that again. A notary came to our home and signed the paperwork. We never had to go out of our house or do anything. It went really quickly and was very painless. It was a very good experience. Finance of America was excellent and we're very satisfied.

I did a reverse mortgage and the money was for a few little projects but nothing major. My loan rep was a nice man and he was really helpful. He answered all my questions and walked me through everything. I was really happy with him. The process could have gone faster but my husband and I got sick with COVID so we had to slow it down a little bit because we just weren't up to filling out the paperwork when we got it. Other than that, it went really fast. Working with the company was good.

I felt comfortable with her knowledge from the beginning of our journey. She kept us informed step by step without us having to ask “what’s next”? She was an absolute professional through our entire process and excellent with details. Never once did she appear frustrated with my (silly questions) and she always had the correct answer. I called Finance of America Reverse and the girl that answered had a lot of knowledge and I felt safer doing things with the company. The process was long, about two months, but there were a lot of mortgages being refinanced at the time. The rep sent me the policy and I sent everything that she needed and everything was fine. My loan was processed very efficiently. The rep got the appraisal done quickly. It just had to go through the process and it took longer because of that. Other than that, it was very smooth.
I had good service on the whole. My rep was as sweet as she could be and I loved her. She was very friendly, kind, and efficient. She kept me informed about everything and she explained everything to me really clearly. I understood the process. Working with Finance of America Reverse helped me because it lowered the interest rate on my loan and I have more money available to me if I need it.

I contacted Finance of America and they reached back and sold me the mortgage, and the pricing wasn't that bad. I think that I was a little frustrating to them because I knew too much. Normally, when people don't have an understanding, they just get an answer and that's all they need because they don't know that there's a deeper answer, and I wanted that and that was very frustrating to them. I was able to say, "Let me see it. You're holding it. Show it to me. I wanna read it." "Well, it's telling you what it is in an email." So then, they would send me the item and say, "Oh, gosh, your email is completely wrong. You've interpreted this completely wrong." So, I found them somewhat frustrating, but I got what I wanted. It wasn't smooth like I expected it would be, but it was okay.
The application and underwriting process were pretty efficient. I closed in five weeks. The loan officer could have taken the bigger picture and supervised my escrow closing so that I didn't have my taxes paid twice. That was a little frustrating to me. My property taxes got paid twice. The prior lender paid them out of my reserve impound account. FAR sent escrow instructions to escrow to pay my property taxes. They could have verified that they were paid already. In the end, I got what I wanted. FAR is as good as any of the companies and they are maybe better than most. I stay with FAR and I wouldn't do it if they weren't a good company.

The process with Finance of America went really well. They tried to change things several times during the process after they had made guarantees but when I brought that to their attention, they backed off and kept with what they originally said. It's just that it was surprising. It was like a bait-and-switch deal. Also, their appraiser came in and lowballed us and was about $1,000 less than what the market actually was. They would not make an effort to change that, which cost me a lot of money. So, that was disappointing. If and when I did this again, I may go someplace else. Our loan officer pretty much just blew me off and gave me rehearsed speech on why that wasn’t true. For the most part, she was there. She made a lot of mistakes along the way that had to be repaired that caused the process to go longer than it should have.

Unfortunately, the appraiser is an independent nonaffiliated third party. They do not work for us and due to compliance regulations we do not communicate with them or contract them ourselves. We are not allowed to communicate with them directly, only through another third party so we have no influence on their results. They are certified to inspect and evaluate your property in adherence with FHA guides.

My first experience with my personal encounter with Finance of America was not very good. The rep wasn't helpful. She talked incessantly and it was difficult working with her. The second guy was very good and he was very professional and I got the basic answers. In both cases, they were very guarded and tried to be protective of the company, and it was unnecessary. I think it is necessary for a lot of their clients, but it took me going all the way through closing to really understand it. I did not understand at all what constituted a good loan for me after the first lady, but then the second guy put the light in my cubicle about the margin. When I asked the first rep about things like that I got a two-hour explanation that meant nothing. The second guy better explained things to me and that was when I tumbled to the fact that, "Hey, this is all about the margin in reality."

The process was very lengthy. I was already one of their customers. I refinanced, so we started off with zero. Everything in my life, they went through over and over again. The lady that took care of me was polite and very thorough. I’d do business with her any time of the week. But there were too many questions for something that should have been convenient.
I was in it, from when I started to when I closed, about three months. COVID had something to do with it. The people were working from all over the places. They're very thorough, though. If I didn't cross the T where it was supposed to be crossed, they would send the document back. And I would have to scan it back to them. But it was good. I got what I asked for in a timely fashion. If I need to draw, I draw it out. It's very easy to do. And it's a simple process. If you're gonna move, you gotta pay your loan off. If you're gonna die, the person that inherits the house pays your loan off. If I had to do it again, I’d do it again. Same company.

I liked what FAR was offering to me. Everybody also seemed to be pretty well above board. The application process was a pain, though. There were problems at times. But I had some help from the rep. But she's no longer there. If my girl hadn't left right before it closed, I would have felt more comfortable. The interesting thing was that I thought it was completed. But the person who took over didn't really think it was completed.

Everything worked out great with Finance of America Reverse. The whole experience was good and the process was simple. I made a phone call, got in touch with the rep and he handled everything. He also answered phone calls and returned phone calls. He was awesome. I got the appraisal, signed the paperwork, and that was it. It also didn't take that long. The second appraisal was a pain in the butt. But I understand that it was a high valuation, they required a second appraisal and that was the only thing that was a bit of a niggle.

I'm disabled and I was having some financial problems. I had looked into the reverse mortgage a few years back, but I was getting a lot of negativity because they were saying they were taking your house and that type of thing. Based on the product that Finance of America was selling, you could still make your payment if you wanted to. You could pay interest if you wanted to. The only obligation you would have would be to pay your tax and insurance. I was having my mortgage payment taken out of my checking account, so that wouldn't be a problem to pay my own tax and insurance. It was a benefit for me because that's money that I leave in the savings and then I earn interest on it. When the time comes up, I pay my tax or insurance. Based on the information they explained to me, I decided it will be a good choice.
The process was very smooth until the close to the end. I had a reconveyance that was not processed and recorded from another bank, Citibank. Once they did the reconveyance and sent it to them for recording, it took almost a month. But it wasn't their fault. Citibank should have done it in the beginning and they didn't. The rep I worked with at Finance of America Reverse was very polite. He called me back when I had issues or questions. It was smooth-sailing. I was pleased with their service.

Working with Finance of America Reverse was good. The service person that I was working with was helpful and kept me informed all along the way. He was very friendly, engaging, and never talked down if I ever asked a question. He was very free and answered everything very honestly. Also, when they needed things, they tried to do things as easily as possible for me. I was very satisfied. However, I did a reverse mortgage a year and a half ago and then I was doing a refinance. I knew they needed some updated figures, but there were a couple of things that they could have done without since they've already worked with me.

The application process at Finance of America Reverse took a very long time. Things would get misplaced and it made it more frustrating. But all in all, it was a good experience. I had an exceptionally good representative that helped me. She was very friendly and professional. She could answer almost every question I had. I also had so much paperwork that they gave me to discuss all of that, and it was fantastic.

It seems to take too long once I request to draw my line of credit. It almost takes five days before I get it. I was used to the one I had before. I can get used to it, but I didn't know upfront that it would take that long. And I was buying a car and trying to get the money into the bank so I could get it to buy the car. The first one, I lost, because it took too long. I just got another one, and I haven't finished with it, but I got the money because I was planning on it first. So, the money is in the bank. And I got the car. It has been paid for and it's supposedly on its way.
Finance of America Reverse may have a better and faster way. I just need to figure it out from this end. The last time, I used to just call whoever it was I got the numbers on. And within two days, the money was in the bank. Finance of America Reverse probably has that service. At my age, I get far more confused with the way everything works than a real problem. It was tough. I thought everything would be exactly the same as the last company I was with, and it didn't work out that way. But it's all done. All I have to do is get it here. Finance of America Reverse has something I can do over the internet. The problem for me with that is I'm not used to that stuff. But they are nice. It's just me learning how much time it takes to do some of these things.

We had an old Finance of America Reverse mortgage and we started the process in November of 2021. It's one of the worst experiences we've ever had. It took from November of 2021 for Finance of America Reverse to get the paperwork straight so we could close around March the 21st. They couldn't even get the names right in the contract. They had the Social Security numbers wrong too. We finally had to get rid of the person we were working with and start working with his boss. They have so many silos in and they don't even know what each one is doing.
When we thought we were ready to close and the notary came in, their lawyer was at a whole different silo and they even created the names wrong again. The lawyers went to someplace and didn't even have the title correct on the property. The property description wasn't correct and we had to turn around and send information back to Finance of America Reverse. We had to send them documents for our tax records to show what we were saying correctly and even had to make a copy of what they had in their current file out of the old mortgage that they had with us.
We told the mortgage originator about this problem three weeks after we originally filed the application, which was taken by phone. Nothing ever got changed. Come January, we were supposed to be closing, but nothing happened. February. There were over 60 errors in the document. They kept insisting it would all be fixed later when the paperwork came through. That paperwork came through with the same mistakes on it, plus additional ones. We have never seen anything that was so incredibly mismanaged.
They sent us documents originally to sign, a whole set of 180 pages. We had never seen them ahead of time. That happened throughout the whole procedure until finally, when it was evident that this had happened so many times, they started sending us some of the documents in advance so that we could go through them and find the errors so they could correct them. But that was only after months of sending them corrections anyway that they ignored. It was crazy. It only went through because we stood on them. We sent it up to one of the directors and we were following up insistently. What's interesting is they don't even have a follow-up process to see how they did. We're pleased with the mortgage product but the processing of the mortgage was horrendous. For something to take four and a half months, for us to have to work five months and for us to have to work as hard as we did repeatedly have them correct mistakes was stunning.

I worked with Melissa. She was very helpful and she walked me through all the steps. The process went reasonably smooth and everything was fine. It ended up taking a little over six months. But it was because I was involved in the court proceedings, and I had to wait until certain things took place in court so that I could proceed with the reverse. Overall, the experience was good.

I contacted the top three reverse mortgage companies. The rep who I dealt with from Finance of America Reverse was the most responsive. She responded whenever I tried to call, even after hours. She also kept me better informed. She was very knowledgeable. The process was easy and it also happened a little faster than I even thought.

The entire process with Finance of America was long. Took me about two months to get it locked in. Things kept coming up and they kept missing forms and sending them back to me that I had to sign. I also logged online. I had one with AAG and they were fewer years. The only thing I don't understand was that I thought that the money would be carried over from the HUD program, where you get the insurance to cover your house in case at the end of it, you don't have enough. But I don't know if it did. I really don't understand. It looks like I was charged with this again. The rep was really good. Except she didn't explain that to me so I’d understood it.

We had a very easy experience with Finance of America. We had a refi of a reverse mortgage. Their customer service was very good. The only difficulty that we ran into was I didn't know which agency required smoke detectors in all the bedrooms. So, we had two more smoke detectors put in and it delayed things. But everything went well. There were no glitches. The rep we worked with was super and professional. Everybody we dealt with was fine.

I liked talking with Katie May, the rep. The process started two years ago but the appraisal came in too low, so I held off and then I waited a year. Then the appraisal came in strong so I proceeded. But it went well. Reverse mortgage from the onset had a bad reputation. But now, that's changed. Finance of America Reverse educates people. They make sure they understand what they're getting into.

I had a wonderful experience with Finance of America Reverse. Every step of the way, the rep was right there. He was also putting it in an email. He was really thorough. It wasn't hard getting the documents to them. But I was really surprised at the documents that they required for my trust. They wanted everything, and that's very personal. This is the second time we've refinanced with Finance of America and we're happy with them. Working with them was wonderful. The rep was right on it and kept us up to snuff on what was going on. If she needed something, she called me immediately. I immediately got on it and sent it back to her. But we're not happy with the appraisal department. They screwed us over. The appraiser came out and he appraised the property at 410,000. We had three or four different things that needed to be repaired.
They sent out a second appraiser, and the second appraiser said she didn't understand what their problem was, that what he said needed to be repaired was nitpicky. She appraised it at 430,000, a little bit more than what the guy did. But they went with the guy. My deck that the guy says needs painted is underneath a roof. The guy told them there was paint flaking. There's no paint flaking because it's not painted. It's stained.
The gal that helped us told us to write them a letter and let them know what was going on. I did, but it didn't change a thing, even though it's under cover. It irritated us because it didn't make sense to us, when this is the second time that we have dealt with them. I never had a bit of problem the first time. The second time, FHA created the biggest bunch of ** for us that anyone could imagine. We still have to do these repairs before we get all of our money. We have six months to make these repairs then they'll send somebody out to check and make sure that they're done right. If it's done to their expectations, then we'll get the rest of $950 back that they've withheld till we get the repairs done.

They do not work for us and due to compliance regulations we do not communicate with them or contract them ourselves. We are not allowed to communicate with them directly, only through another third party so we have no influence on their results. They are certified to inspect and evaluate your property in adherence with FHA guides.

It was amazing with Finance of America. The people carried me across the finish line. I knew nothing about that but they really worked hard. Everything was very well done. My first point of contact was Nicole and she was phenomenal. She knows her stuff about reverse mortgage and we got to know each other almost on a personal level. I had a lot of anxiety just going into this but she immediately put me at ease. That sort of made me keep going, taking the journey with her further until it became a reality. The house is fragile and needed a lot of work, and she got me through that too. It was a terrible experience with Finance of America Reverse. They kept wanting more and more things and this wasn’t right, that wasn't right. It was a long, long process and they could have done things quicker. The rep was personable and that man’s enthusiasm was wonderful at the beginning but by the time it was getting on towards six months, the enthusiasm kinda wore thin. But he was real knowledgeable and took the time to explain everything.

I'm upset with Finance of America Reverse. They did such a terrible job. What they offered was $20,000 more than the other company. That was why I picked them. But then they're taking more. I'm only ending up with 6,000 more rather than 20,000 more. I'm really disappointed by how I'm getting screwed by them. I've had three reverse mortgages. This was the third one and this was the worst experience I've ever had in my whole life. I was being ripped off all the time.
The application process was tough, signing so many papers. I felt I couldn't trust them. They were sacred to me, yet all of a sudden, they made me jump that I had to do this or that, and they never mentioned any of this stuff to me prior to going with them. It became a problem always because they wanted something right away from me and I didn't even know where it was. I also didn't know what was going on. They never communicated much with me, and I always had to call them and then I would always get bad news from them. I was told I'm going to get $120,000 but I'm only going to end up with $93,000. There should be somebody enforcing and seeing what's going on to make sure it’s all correct and not everyone's putting their hand and pulling money out of my pot. They're the worst company I've ever dealt with. I've never been treated so poorly in my life by any company anytime as I was in this situation.

Working with them went quite easy once they got all the paperwork they needed. But would have been good to have better communication by paperwork explaining how the process was done. Also, it would have been really wonderful to know what is really going on with the loan officer. There was a three-week blackout there and we didn't know what was going on. Then all of a sudden, the district manager called me and said that the loan officer I started working with was fired.

I looked at several companies and it came down to a negotiation with them. I had one offer for the reverse mortgage that was better as far as interest rates. Finance of America Reverse came back and they matched that so I chose them. The application process was easy. One of the reasons I chose them was because some of the other ones that I looked at didn't want to roll all the different types of costs like appraisal to the end of the loan. They wanted to have me pay stuff upfront.
I filled out the application, which took about an hour, and the process took just a few days. Things started out good and my rep was Melissa. It was very difficult to get ahold of her at times. There were times when I was asking questions. If she wasn't in the office, she didn't leave an out-of-office message on the phone or I would get out-of-office messages on my email 12 hours later. I didn't understand that. That led to some confusion. There was a point in time when information was needed and she should have told me. I emailed her back and asked what was going on and she said, “I'm glad you emailed because we need this now.” There were different documents and she could have been proactive and more informative to me about what was needed instead of me contacting her and asking how things are going.
My appraisal came in higher than the estimate and it was great. But I had upped my homeowner's insurance and that was the issue. Melissa said, “Oh, by the way, you have to do this.” I said, “Well, why didn't you tell me?” I got upset with her and at one point in time after that, she shut me off and turned me over to the branch manager, Eric. She couldn't deal with this anymore. When I would ask her for things, she thought I was out of line. Eric took over and when that happened, it was fine.
When it came time to fund the loan and send the wires to my mortgage company and to my bank, they went to the wrong title company in California. They were in California and I'm in Oregon. I told them to get this straightened out and when I came back and asked what the process was, they sent it to the wrong place again. It took three times to get the wire transfers done right. It was very frustrating. Eric apologized and I told him that he should have been on top of this. They could send me a $100 gift card for my inconvenience but I would rather have it done right the first time.
I can excuse one time since things happen. It was a situation where things have changed in the lender. Eric should have known about that change. In the end, it got taken care of. If I sell this house and do another reverse mortgage on another house, I will use Finance of America again because of their willingness to work with me. They were very flexible. But I would probably ask for a different loan originator.

With Finance of America, we had a better rate, better money back, better everything, wonderful customer service, and they were always there whenever we needed them. They said the application would take 45 days, and it took 45 days. We got it all done and everything went smoothly. It was easy to go through. So, we recommend Finance of America to anybody.

Finance of America Reverse called me back promptly. I had this one lady named Dana. They didn't move me around to different people. She hung in there with me from the first conversation to the last. And I like that. She told me, I had to get online so I will be educated on the different types of mortgages that they offer. I listened to that. And I had to take an exam to see if I understood it. And I had to get the certificate in to her. Once I followed that procedure, she made sure that I understood my options. After that, we went through all the processes. I didn't have to explain myself over and over to different people. I was satisfied with her.
I had excellent credit. A lot of them don't consider that for some reason. Finance of America did. And she got me right where I wanted to be. I was pleased with my interest rate according to my credit rating. But one thing I didn't understand was, I had been late paying my taxes a couple of times on my home. So, they wanted to build in there where my taxes be paid every year out of the money I get, which was fine. But they projected my life expectancy to 93 years old.
I went online and saw the average life expectancy was 79 years old, and that 90 something to be extravagant. Because not only did they include my homeowners insurance, they paid my taxes too according to that. So, that affected the amount of money that I received. 93 was extreme far as my life expectancy. I didn't understand why they went so high when you take out that amount and put it in like a prorated program. I just had to go with it because they didn't give me room to go down on that. That threw me off a bit. They were right in the range on everything else. So they paid that. Everything else I was satisfied with. They did an appraisal on my home, and their appraisal went up with the appraisal, which was good. So all in all, they were on top of it. It was really a good process.

Finance of America Reverse got right on it. It was very good. They offered us the best rate they possibly could. What we really liked more than anything was the counseling that was required. Finance of America reached out to one of the local counselors and we started working with her. Also, we got approved in three weeks, which was fast. I did some research with the help of Franchesca. She warned me about AAG and gave me articles about them, and defended Finance of America, which I appreciated. Because I read the articles and AAG showed up themselves to be greedy, because they wouldn't let go. And they kept sending information. They were like a Pitbull. They would continually bother me when I was already working with Finance of America.
Franchesca started out with us. She was such a big help, and actually became a friend. And she loved Finance of America. I have never met her or known of her before this. And when I found she was let go, I was shocked. She could talk on and on and maybe not get things done. She stayed on the phone too long. Because I had other things to do, and she talked about things that weren’t really relevant. I got to know her a lot better, and she got to know me. That quality of person, of being personable, is gone. And she was personable, and very sharp with figures.
Toby came along and took over, and he was stellar in helping us too, along with Franchesca. I liked Finance of America so much. I already told a friend about it and gave her Toby's number. I appreciate Finance of America. And I hope that it stays that way, because I found a gem amongst all these businesses that are corrupt. It’s hard to find a business that stays honest.
There's only one little glitch that happened, and that was when the guy that had us sign papers. The amount was not the same that was told to us by Toby that we would get. So, I got upset, because nobody explained to us that the amount was would be lower. We got ahold of Toby. He was on the phone with someone else. He got right back with us after half an hour and he explained that the property taxes were taken out automatically from the amount we would get back. I didn't know that. He didn't explain that to us. He apologized profusely for us not knowing that. I was not ready to sign because I thought, “Here we go again, another dishonest business. Not telling us.” But no, it was all on the up and up. It just was not explained to us.
Toby probably had so much on his mind. I’m gonna limp for him, because he was a great guy. And I called him another time afterwards about something, and he got right on it. He even said, while he was working with us, “If there is a problem or you have a question, I don’t care if I’m even on vacation, you call me.” That was impressive. It was refreshing working with Finance of America.

Instead of people calling and just telling how great they were, Scott from Finance of America sent me the full package, everything I needed to analyze it to see if it would work for me. And I was very impressed because he was very professional. He said, "I’m gonna send it to you, FedEx it." And it wasn't cheap. But he spent time and the money to get the product out to me to take a look at. And from that point on, I contacted him back, and we were off and running. I was very impressed with the way he handled business. And I told him. It was straightforward. Scott followed up better than any of the people I use on a daily basis when I'm doing real estate. I know Scott is busy, but he always had time, answered my questions, and checked in with me to make sure that everything was okay. Not only did Scott answer the questions that I had at the time and during the process, but the counselor also added to that.
It took two weeks to sign up with the counselor. But he was very informative. And I misinterpreted some things, and he let me know that, "No. This is what it means. You still own the house." But the longest part was the appraisal. That took a week. But during the interim, I waited on other people more than anything. And once the appraisal came in, we closed within a few days. I had a notary come out and that was done in no time. I was impressed and I would recommend Finance of America, anybody that was interested in doing a reverse.

I sent the documents, Finance of America didn't get them. I sent them again. They would request one thing, I would send it. And they would say, “Oh, no. That's not what we needed. We needed this.” The whole process took almost six months. And it didn't go well. Also, the second gentleman's appraisal was substantially more than the first appraisal. So when I complained, my representative said, “Well, there's nothing we can do. That's a third party. So we have to take the lower appraisal,” which was very upsetting. I lost thousands of dollars because of that.
Once I've read reviews of Finance of America, they had numerous bad reviews of the same thing that I had. And when I brought that attention to my representative that I was very concerned about that, his reply was, “Oh, well, we have a lot of good reviews.” Which is the most ridiculous thing to say when someone brings up bad reviews. And I know some bad reviews are not actual real reviews. They are just people who are trying to make a point. But numerous of the reviews were exactly the same complaints I had, just over and over things I had to do, like it was my fault. And most of the reviews, so it's not like I'm making it up. It’s happening to other people too.

Unfortunately, the appraiser is an independent nonaffiliated third party. They do not work for us and due to compliance regulations we do not communicate with them or contract them ourselves. We are not allowed to communicate with them directly, only through another third party so we have no influence on their results. They are certified to inspect and evaluate your property in adherence with FHA guides.

When Glen called, it was a prayer answered because he was so kind, understanding and helpful. And I decided to go ahead and do the reverse mortgage with Finance of America. So, it went forward and we just got closed a few weeks ago. Glen explained everything to me. And he would call and check up on me to see how I was, and went through the process. He called me constantly to update me with what was going on. And I chose to get some money out because I'm looking to buy a new car. He helped me with that. Also, we had several times when the FedEx people would drop something off for me to initial. I would take it back in when I was shopping, and take it to the FedEx office in Cedar City. He would call and tell me that he got the information with my signatures. He couldn't have been better for me.
I'm here by myself in Utah. My children are all in California. Glen took his time to call my daughter in California and discuss everything that was happening with the reverse mortgage that I was applying for. It was so awesome of him. I can't thank him enough. My daughter knew everything about my situation and discussed everything with him so that she was aware of what was going on with this reverse mortgage that I was applying for. That was very thoughtful of him.
I had two people come out and do a walkthrough with me of my home. And they gave an estimate of everything that I have here. It was very smooth. They were very nice people. One was a young woman and the other was a man. They were very thorough. I have a dropdown ladder in the garage from the top of the ceiling. They both climbed up there and took pictures of what the upper part of the garage looked like. And they both took outside pictures and took good ones. I have five acres. And they took really good pictures. I appreciated their ability to take a walk through for my home.

Miranda from Finance of America Reverse was the one who contacted me. She gave me her idea of what was what. And we just looked into everything. Miranda was the one that I decided to go with with my wife. I liked her knowledge and patience with us when we had to get stuff done on the internet. We’re seniors. She took her time with us. She walked us through everything, where the other ones were a lot harder and weren’t as patient as she was. She was right on the ball. She stayed up with everything. If we had any questions, she would stay up to answer it. And it was 100%. She was the best. So, I would recommend the person right down to the end.
She had originally said, once we were all done with the paperwork, it would probably take 90 days but it turned out, it was 30 days. It was a lot quicker than she thought. It worked out well. We tried to get a regular mortgage, and because we’re retired, and even though we had a lot of equity in the house, they gave us a hard time. “You got to have this. You got to have that.” And I gave Miranda everything that she asked for, and it was a lot easier with her. We were very happy. And very happy with the whole process. It took a big weight off of my shoulders because I was semi-retired, my wife is retired. So, every month, coming up with $1,750 was hard. And now that that is taken care of, hopefully I’ll live another 20 years because of that.

I called Finance of America and I talked to Ryan. He was very good. He and all the people I talked to were very nice. The application process was long, but it wouldn't be any shorter with anyone else.

Finance of America gave me a better rate. They are a good company and I liked them. They were honest and quick on whatever they did. I appreciated that. from beginning to end, the process took two months and that was fine with me. Ryan was my loan rep and he was really good. He was honest and every time somebody called, he would respond quickly. He kept me informed and updated.
The end part with the title company should, however, be improved. I had to pay additional money for closing. They screwed up on who it was made off to and they made me do some hoops. I had to do a cashier's check three different times for different names. That was bad. That aside, I enjoyed the appraiser. He did a good job.

I went with Finance of America and had a really good experience. My loan officer's name is Glen and he's a very pleasant guy to talk to, kept me in touch with everything that went on, and usually touched base with me sometimes at the beginning of a week, or at the end, sometimes both, either by phone or email. So, I was kept involved with the process, which I liked. He made everything fully understandable for meAnd everything went smooth. I'm very pleased with everything, because it enabled me to have more money to maintain my lifestyle with at the end of every month. I'm very pleased with being able to have better finances.

Julie was the one that handled our loan. We were real pleased with her. She's fantastic. My wife took over the process for me right towards the end. She told me today that she talked to Julie who said in two weeks, we were going to receive a package telling us how to do direct line contact with Finance of America with their underwriters when we need the money.
The application process was nothing overly taxing. It was very good. So far, I like the rate and terms. Julie was real good about addressing all of the negative stuff out there. We had good discussions all the way through. She was very honest and upfront. She gave us time in the beginning. She told us, “Make sure this is right for you. Make sure you don't have anybody that you want to be an heir. Because if you don't find a way later to pay it back, or whatever, then of course, the company gets the home.” We understood that. I understood both the pros and the cons, and what can happen. She also told us we need to always keep our property tax paid up. Julie went over that major checklist with us, and others have too since.

I was very satisfied with my loan officer. He was professional and knowledgeable. He handled things in a timely manner. I’m very pleased with the way Finance of America Reverse worked out for me.
