My wife and I shop at Target every few months to stock up on health and beauty products, laundry products, paper goods, etc. Even though we live in Greenville, SC, we have liked the Target on Wade Hampton in Taylors and have been willing to drive the extra distance. Our experience today, however, has changed our minds.

We had over $300 of items in two carts and were ready to check out on a Thursday morning. Even though the store had around 10 check-out lanes, only the self-checkout lanes were open, and they were labelled 10 items or less. When we arrived, there was already a long line forming. We questioned a few employees as to why there wasn't at least one regular lane open, but they just smiled and said the self-checkout was open. My wife and I were tired and knew it would be difficult to go through the self-checkout with two carts full of supplies. The self-checkouts give space for bagging and placing only a few items at a time, and the machine disciplines you when you remove items before paying. How on earth would we be able to stack two full carts of items on that one little tray?

Finally, an employee told us to go to the Exchanges and Returns counter, where the employee there would help us. When we were finally waited on, the employee was surprised to find we were at her counter for a purchase. We told her another employee had told us to go to her. She tried to be cheerful, but seemed a bit hassled and was not compassionate to our dilemma. Whatever happened to customer service at Target? No employee had offered to open one of the regular lanes or get a manager. They just smiled and shrugged. Our opinion of Target has been shattered.

I visited the Target nearest me in Belton, Missouri to make an exchange. They did not have the proper item in stock. They did look on the computer and found it at the nearest store. I asked for a refund since I bought it there. The customer service person said that the other store would exchange it. I went to the other store in South Kansas City and they wouldn’t do it. I returned to the prior store and asked for a refund. They gave it to me in a gift card, which I used at the store in South KC. To buy the correct item. The person at customer service was so rude to me at the South KC store that I will not ever go to a Target store ever again. This lady gave me such problems and caused me time and gas that she made me not want to shop at Target!

I am very disappointed in the checkout changes. Self check can only be used if you purchase with a credit card. If I have less than 10 items and want to use cash I am forced to wait on a line to have a cashier check me out. And there are never enough cashiers. So the line is usually long. Very inconvenient!

An order I made from a bridal registry, was charged to my cc and shipped from California. It was damaged in shipment and returned to shipper. The order was made on 1.20.2026 with no updates since 1.27.2026. After multiple (10+) attempts to resolve online with Chatbots and AI, I called the local Target store. No assistance. Finally got a phone number to corporate. The Target system does not track these situations so if I hadn't persisted, I would have paid for the order with nothing delivered. The rep could only refund my cc (after I asked) and I am back to reordering it on my own. No one knows how it will affect the bridal registry and if the bride will get 2 instead of 1 of these items.

My question is right to the point: Why are nurses excluded from getting discounts? Here’s a definition of Public Service: Public service is defined as any service, commodity, or action provided or facilitated by government—or authorized non-profits—to meet the essential needs of the community, often funded by taxes. It aims to support the public good, protect rights, and improve quality of life, ranging from infrastructure like roads to services like police and healthcare.

I received a message back basically saying, "Thank you for your comment, we’ll keep it under review however you could join the Target Circle Program for discounts." This is my message back: Thank you for your response. While teachers, students, Military and Government Assistance qualifies for a discount without paying $99.00 I think this list should also include nurses. I just purchased curtains yesterday for $265.00. And so you think I should spend $99 for the Target Circle program to get a discount of $ 16.00 or 26.00 dollars on the curtains. Really! I will be aware of this the next time I need to make a large purchase and look elsewhere.

This experience has been unbelievable. Target is keeping my money and the item because I missed the return window, and instead of helping, customer service told me to dispute it with my bank. That is not customer service. I feel completely ripped off and ignored. I expected much better from Target.

2 months ago when I went to checkout, the cash register woman suggested to open a Target card and said I would receive a $50 bonus back. So figuring that was a good idea, I went ahead and applied for the credit card. No bonus appeared on the statement. I emailed customer service and explained my issue and the response I got back told me the purchase had to be over $50.00. So I went ahead and made another online purchase for about a little over the $50.00 and successfully used the $50.00. When the new items arrived, I then went into the local store and returned the first order I had placed. Now my new bill has arrived and the ** sales girl at the return desk - I realized credited me back off of the 2nd purchase I had ordered and only received the $9.23 credit. So basically, I never received the correct credit for the items I bought.

Bottom line is that I am now being forced to pay double for 2 items I bought. Target customer service totally stinks - not even in the United States and couldn't understand a anything they were saying on the phone with their accents. I am being forced to pay approximately $47.00 over what I calculated I actually owe. I will NEVER step into a Target store again for the rest of my life!!!! Target is nothing but a Rip off Company!!!!

Bought an expensive appliance from this Target in Bellingham last week, and they did not offer (and I forgot to buy the extended warranty at the time of purchase). I looked on Target website and could not find the phone number for the insurance company (Allstate Insurance). Therefore, I called Target in Bellingham today trying to get the phone number. First, I called the Target appliance department. The phone rang and rang until it got disconnected. I called again, and same thing, rang until disconnected.

Second, I called Target back and select the customer service desk. It rang for a long time, and finally a lady picked up the phone. I explained that I would like to add extended warranty for my purchase since I bought it about 10 days ago. She at first said I can't do that, and I must return the item (since it is less than 30 days) and buy it again & add insurance. I then asked her for the phone number for Allstate insurance and I can call them directly. She told me to look it up on Target website. HOWEVER, before I was able to tell her that I did but no phone number listed, she said "have a good day" and then she left. She did not disconnect me because I could hear her and someone in the background talking and laughing. I kept saying "Hello! Hello!" but no answer. After a couple minutes of no response from her (background noise still going on), I had no choice but hung up.

Third: I called back right away to same department. Same thing, rang a long time before a lady picked up the phone. I think it is the same lady that had answered my call before. I explained my issue and asked her for her name. She then said "Hello, hello.... I think it is a bad connection......." and then same thing happened. No more response from her despite I can hear the background noise clearly.

Fourth: I called back again at same department. Again, rang awhile before a lady answered. Not sure if the same woman, but I right away asked to speak a manager. She put me on hold and got her manager Lindsay (so they claimed).

I explained to Lindsay my frustration, and the reason for my call. For the first time, at least Lindsay did not rush me off and did not put me in the "black hole" again.

    a) Lindsay did not apologize nor mention anything about her staff's handling of the my calls.

    b) Lindsay said her staff is correct that I must return the appliance, and purchase it again with insurance.

I said it does not make sense because :
    1) All I need is the phone number for Allstate insurance:
    2) it is a big inconvenience for me to pack everything in the box and bring it back to target to return

    3) If I return it, they will have an "open-box " item, and they (Target and the manufacturer) will lose money as they will have to resell it as an "opened item".

Lindsay said no, because I have to re-purchase the same unit!!! I said if I go thru all the hassles to return the unit, I WILL NOT RE-PURCHASE IT AND I WILL TAKE MY BUSINESS ELSEWHERE! She said it's my choice, but she will try to get me the phone number. After a very brief hold, she came back and said there is no phone at all on the insurance pamphlet, no phone number for sales, customer service nor claims. I advised I will escalate this experience to Target corp., as this is UNACCEPTABLE CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Apparently customer service is an outdated concept. Went to Target in Amsterdam NY, first stopped at the in house Starbucks, where the girl behind the counter walked back and forth making drinks, it was a good 5 minutes before she even acknowledged my existence. Then proceeded to mess up the entire order. Next shopped in the store when we went to check out there was one person at a register and when we stood in line she proceeded to tell us she was not open and we would have to use self checkout! I have never received training on the register nor do I get paid to be a cashier! How hard is it to provide basic customer service? If I treated my customers this way I would be out of business in no time flat!

Well, after taking a while to be acknowledged, along with others waiting for pick up, I waited 30 minutes to get my item!! The worker had to go in a distant part of the store to receive the items. These items should be in that back room, by their desk, waiting for customers to pick "fast, easy".!! While waiting staff had no smiles or full understanding of handling customers. This is really poor service. Improved speed, location of purchases, and worker training greatly needed here!!

I purchased a Nintendo Switch through Target, and the experience has been nothing short of frustrating. The package was left in an unsecure, highly visible spot at the edge of the sidewalk instead of a safe location near my front door. Unsurprisingly, it was stolen. Despite reporting the issue immediately, Target has been unhelpful. I was bounced back and forth between Target and my credit card company with no resolution. This was clearly a result of poor delivery judgment, and yet Target refuses to take responsibility. As a long-time customer, I expected better. This experience has been incredibly disappointing, and I won’t be making any major purchases through Target again.

Terrible customer service I received today by calling the 1800 number. The associate was very kind and nice. I called and waited the first time about 15 mins to be connected, I explained that I ordered an item that was supposed to be delivered on December 20th. Today is the 22nd and no sign of the item. I go to check my app and delivery has now been changed to Jan 2. I am upset as this is a Christmas gift. The first rep is trying to help me out, but when he realizes he cannot, he decides to transfer me to their heads department. I get disconnected. I am very upset now, but call back and nicely explain to the next rep (also very nice) everything about the item and also what happened in the first call.

She had already read all the notes and knew I was telling her the truth. So now, after I waited another 15 mins to be connected to a rep, she tells me only someone from the head department can help with this situation. Places me on hold, I wait another 10 mins and finally get connected. This terrible person picks up the call named Heber. He is not nice at all and telling basically that I am out of luck and he will not do anything about it and the only thing I can do is to wait till Jan 2. I asked him a bunch of times if he was sure that he was not going to help me and over and over he was saying “No I can’t help”. I will make sure to contact the headquarters department tomorrow morning about this!

I did not go back to review if the remaining gift was received or not. Due to several different circumstances that happened, I did not become aware of the lost item until October 2025. My fault for not checking back. However, when I used the chat feature with customer service, I was told that they would be refunding the money back to my Target card. I went on today, 12/22/2025 and the credit never applied. When I called customer service, I was told it was too far past the return date and I was out of luck. No willingness to help at all. I understand that they may not be able to credit the money back, but the attitude from the representative was horrible. I had the option of picking up this television within two hours and it was only 2 miles away. After reading the reviews how they come damaged I called a couple of hours later if I could pick the television up. Hannah at Target customer service said, "No. Your order it’s still in process and pending. There is no assigned driver but once you paid, we cannot cancel it. Feel free to return it if you want." Four days later, a message from FedEx that they’re looking to get me a replacement and a new delivery date. Another 24 hours no delivery date set. Two customer service reps continued the lie by saying, "I see that your account is closed." If that's the case, why can't you email me that it has been closed? It took two more phone calls and finally reaching a supervisor who admitted that my account had not been CLOSED. I asked the supervisor to repeat what she said to be sure that I heard her correctly. She confirmed that my account had not been CLOSED but that she would close it right now. This was a deliberate tactic of the two customer service representatives to keep my account OPEN. I'd like to tell you about my most recent visit to a Target store. This was in Glen Allen, VA, across from what was once Virginia Center Commons Mall but for all I know is representative of ALL Targets. I walked in and there were no cashiers, only self checkout available. Major red flag. I kept going, because I was looking for something specific and I'd already checked Wal Mart. Not having any cashiers to ring me up was something I could worry about if I found what I was looking for. Place your bets at this point whether I did or not.

I wandered about a bit, looking for the specific section the device I was looking for -a vacuum sealer- was likely to be in. On my way, I passed the music and movies section. Since movies and electronics are the only thing of personal interest to me (with a single exception) in the entire store, I stopped to look. There were a few vinyl records. NO cd's. NO movies. Only books. I love books, but not THOSE books, and not when I'm looking for movies. Strike 2.

I finally found the section I was looking for(and it wasn't easy) but not the item. To be fair, a lot of stores carry items on their websites but not in stores these days and it was just as well because by that point I wasn't thrilled with Target anyway. But if I'd wanted to shop online I would have stayed home, not driven half an hour up the road. So strike 3.

On my way out, I stopped to see if I could find the one item I DO occasionally come into Target to buy, or at least I once did, because I could only ever find it at Target: Icebreakers duo in grape. This really isn't Target's fault, because I just now discovered that those aren't MADE any more. No one has them. Target couldn't have them in stock even if it wanted to. But this little detail did not mitigate my disappointment while ensuring that I found absolutely NOTHING I came in looking for or interested in. There was a huge lego tuxedo cat I found, which was cool... and I'll give Target that. If you have a mountain of money there are a few cool things to buy that you know you don't need... but it was way out of my price range as a non-essential item.

I ended up ordering said vacuum sealer from Wal Mart's website. It wasn't really any cheaper than it would have been on Target's website... but the important thing was that it didn't come from Target, if you get my meaning. I suppose I don't blame Target per se... The world is changing and all that. But they have nothing I want and no one to ring me up and I really don't want any of my money supporting that state. And, frankly, I haven't forgotten about the bathing suits for "trans kids," either, and I was none too happy about that even though that happened a while ago now, which is precisely WHY it was Target I checked last. Obviously I left without making a purchase. Take this as you will.
