I am dissatisfied on 2 counts. I have tried to find my account & settings with expiration date, & I am unable to locate my account info online. Your info is outdated & people have not resided @ addresses you provide for years. If you pay for a service, we should receive the most updated info, not charge an additional fee. That is almost like a scam, & I will not be renewing my account upon expiration.

This "service" purported to be compiling a record, when in effect it was simply a way to convince a consumer that information existed when it did not. After charging me over $20 for a "report" that simply said no records were available, I was then asked to pay more for "premium" content--about which there was no mention before the fee was charged to my credit card. Please save your money and DO NOT use this company.

Tried the 5 day search for $1.00 and got report but to get all the info was asked to sign up for more options for additional costs. Called customer service today 3/23 to cancel before they charge for the monthly charge and told too late it expired yesterday (Sunday) but will cancel it so it won't renew again next month but basically I am screwed for a whole month of useless service. Just seems like another scam job to get money for useless info.

I had been looking for my three brothers for over 18 years. I located one of them through Instant Checkmate. Although, sadly, he had passed away, the information on Checkmate gave me what I needed to get in touch with my other two brothers as well as my nieces and nephews. They promise complete reports and personal lookups. They say they have your reports and charge you $22.95 for a month. You look at the report and they only have phone numbers and address. If you want to other stuff, the stuff you thought you were getting for the $22.95, you have to pay another $19.99 each time. So, I think it is a rip-off. They promise you in-depth reports, but give you a phone number. If you want the real information, you have to pay another $20 for it. And I'm not sure that would be any better. Who knows what they would charge you after you paid for that?

I signed up and canceled my account the same day as I opened it. However they still took the $22.86 and $1.99 out that same day. Two weeks passed and I had not received a refund so I contacted them and after a lot of run around and numerous holds they finally agreed to give a refund. I do not understand when there is a free trial why they would take the fee out immediately but not refund it immediately. First they said some rigamoro about not canceling with them, however I did, then they offered to refund 1/2 of what was taken. I was not satisfied with that and after my third hold they agreed to refund the full amount. Not good customer service in my opinion.

My credit card company just called me and warned me of an illegal charge from Instant Checkmate yesterday (as of this writing) and wanted to close down my account number and issue me a new account credit card number to protect me. At first I did not agree to a new credit card number as it creates a lot of problems to me but they insist on doing it and I had to agree to a new card number. Apparently this company Instant Checkmate has illegally charged their customers so many times that it triggers the credit card companies to verify with their customers about the online charge. So beware. This company illegally charges your credit card if they get your number themselves or by any companies associated with them.

I was wrong about Instant checkmate, they immediately contacted me and apologized that I was dissatisfied, I didn't even ask and they refunded my money and I didn't have to do anything. This is a good company, and they care about their customers being happy with the service. The nice thing is they have real representatives who want to resolve your issue and they do it quick. I recommend this company a hundred percent.

I was linked to this to do a background check on myself looking for something specific. I put in all my information then waited as the site says they do a nationwide check on everything. This took awhile, then the site required a fee, I paid for a month which was over 20 dollars. What I received is nothing you can't pull up on the internet for free just by putting your name in. If you want more info they require another 19.99 dollars in order to access this info which they don't tell you upfront. This is a very misleading site and it's not worth paying for unless you want to spend over 40 dollars.

Lots of uncertainty and incomplete information. Provides a lot of information that may or may not be for the specific individual being searched for. Also this "Input Box" interferes with doing a better evaluation because it can't be moved to the side. Also, opening an associate's report does not open in a separate window. It is clear that it is all about mo' money, mo' money, mo' money.

I linked to instantcheckmate.com from another site ad and was able to go through the many steps to run an extensive background search, only to be presented with required billing to access the report. Most businesses are required by governmental regulations to stipulate such fees, upfront. This site technique is to require substantial time and resource of the user before presentation of fees, such that the user is obliged to pay for service.

I believe your ad is extremely misleading. I know the county I'm from in FL makes most of the information you're charging for, free because it's public files. Not happy at all with your site. I am seriously disappointed with your site. The information you charge for is old and nonrelevant. And it feels like all you really want to do is trick me into buying a premium report, which is a joke. All you did was repeat the information from the standard report and add a lot more graphics and nonrelevant people. Your site feels like it is riddled with a used car salesman creepiness like i should check my pockets when i leave. WHY CANT YOU JUST CHARGE A FAIR PRICE AND FORGET THE WHOLE ** PREMIUM Reports. I would rather pay thrice the regular price and get all the info you have upfront instead of being hounded and badgered every second to buy a pdf or pay for updates or whatever. It really is disgusting. I hope all the sites arent like this. The second my subscription is up i am going to try to find a place that doesnt feel so slimy. Geez.

I'm thankful I only paid $1 for your services! I'm angry at myself for being suckered into paying for the pdf. Your site is so slow I wish there was a way to turn off the "junk" I'm not interested. Please give us a way to exclude "Sex offenders" and Horoscope. Having to scroll through sex offenders in the same zip code to get useful information is a real pain.

I checked to verify info on myself and close family members $22.86 +1.99 (pdf) to join for unlimited "reports" for 30 days. All I received was my NAME, ADDRESS AND TELEPHONE NUMBER. They continued to bait me with more "reports" that could be accessed for additional money. Each and every report that was offered was an additional $19.99. This may not be a SCAM but it is certainly very expensive WHITE PAGES. I want a refund.

Ran a report on myself, the only thing that was accurate was address, birth date, and 1 out of 3 phone numbers. They didn't even have either of my two marriages, or one divorce listed. They lead you to believe that you get the whole report for the $21/month fee, but after paying inform you that if you want the report in pdf it is $2, and if you want any other records, (arrest, tickets, etc), it is another $20. Ran my wife and all the information was just as bad. It's a scam, will be canceling, and just eating the cost.

A local number has been calling me and I wanted to know who it was; googled reverse phone lookup and found this website. I typed in the phone number, and it took me through a pretty awesome visual where it was zooming in on the place in Oklahoma where this call was coming from. After it did all of the processing and telling me the "Contact Information was found!" it took me to a page where on the left side it listed the number, location, what kind of phone it was (landline), and at the top, there was a name but it was blurred out. I looked over to the right hand side and it said "Only $1.00 for 5 day FREE TRIAL! " I'm like... okay I'll pay $1.00 to see who this is!
Went through the pay process, paid the $1.00 and clicked to view profile. To my not so much surprise... I get a big fat "Unfortunately, this phone number is not in our database." EXCUSE ME?! YOU JUST TOLD ME THE CONTACT INFORMATION WAS FOUND, and you even had a "name" blurred out!! What a scam!! I know it's only a dollar, but that's MY MONEY that I wasted on this horrible website. DO NOT USE.

I find it difficult to click into other related names. In one case I'm told that there is difficulty with my account. I'm told to notify someone else about it, but no instructions are given for notifying this person. I find that some of the information is outdated or just plain wrong. I couldn't find the amount of the extra charge. The arrest reports are not mine.

After you sign up any useful info has an upgrade fee attached to it. What you get is a name and address for $22/month. You are also signed up for monthly charges permanently until you call and cancel the subscription. Customer service was argumentative and did not honor the 100% guarantee. If you want your money back you specifically have to ask for a refund or they try a 50% refund deal and keep you signed up.

All the info that comes with their "regular" membership is information I could find on Google, I didn't sign up so I could know their Horoscope, what bs! Then they tell you to get X information you need to sign up with a "premium membership" to get that information which isn't anything new either. What a waste of money. I am so disappointed. When I searched a person who I know for a fact has a criminal record it showed that there was nothing. So in conclusion this site is a ripoff and I wish I didn't waste my money!

I am a former PI and the info you provide is basic at best. I purposely looked up individuals with records and ones I knew a lot of information on. Not once did it show any criminal record on anyone. The service is good for location but that is it.

I'm trying to call to the number 1 (866) 490-5980 to cancel the service the same day that starts my 5 day trial and there is a message that the number is unavailable from my calling area. There's no other number to call, no email, no other form to contact them. And I need it to be canceled as soon as possible.

I joined Instant Checkmate tonight at their monthly fee of $22.86 knowing I would cancel before the month is up as I only required one report. I was running a report on a cousin who is sitting in jail at this moment. I wanted truthful details of why she is in jail as I intend to help her if I can. The report showed me nothing I couldn't find out on my own and NO arrest records were located BUT if I paid an additional $19.95 more information could possibly be found!! When I called customer service to express my feelings of being ripped off as there were "no arrest records found" even though it's a fact she's sitting in jail, I was told arrest records aren't provided until the person goes to court and is convicted. Didn't say that anywhere when I requested the report! This outfit is a scam and I'm embarrassed I fell for it! I have of course cancelled my membership after only 15 minutes at a cost of $22.86. SCAM and RIP OFF.

I have been in a position where I needed to find out information on someone that affects my child. I came across your site promising to give information for whatever amount you pay per month. So I did a background check on myself that connected me to this person, which said he had a criminal record. However, I could not access ANYTHING relevant or needed without paying a PDF one time charge and a premium upgrade cost. I'm a single mom, trying to make ends meet and now I'm out money and my time, and my hopes for help is gone. And I can't afford to pay anymore. I really wish I could get my money back. $23+ may not seem much to some but for me it can mean the difference at the grocery store.

I've been an avid user since I signed up and I have definitely had my money worth out of this product. I absolutely love IC and added the phone searching for an enhancement. Now I find what I need and am done in half the time. There was a complaint filed on ** from a user who said he got swindled into monthly payments and such so I jumped right in there and said Instant Checkmate is a great service and its website makes it very clear in several different locations on how your card will be charged and when it will be charged. I implied that this person just started clicking through and wanted their report so they didn't read anything before they agreed. That's your own fault! So I hope the rebuttal did you some good for keep your reputation and again, Thanks!!!

Being in charge of locating people for our 50th class reunion was a daunting task, but with the help of Instant Checkmate it was much easier. It found both those living, and a few that had passed out of state that we never would have known about. I also found myself using it for genealogy look-ups for people that are cousins. I feel like a sucker. I paid for information that is readily available in a Google search. Much information provided is incorrect. It was a pain in the ass going through all the different payments. Why don't you have one flat rate? To be continuously stopped and to put in payment info was extremely frustrating. The information I cannot rate yet as I was not able to get to all of it, with all payment delays, and read it at the time your survey popped up. If you want to survey and continue to interrupt people, you'll not get a very accurate rating, give us a little time.

Instant Checkmate runs an ad for one month unlimited background checks that include all types of info on a person. They recommend the one-month deal for $22.86. I used my credit card and signed up. The first person I checked, there is no information except name address and birth date, which gives you the astrological sign. No traffic violation, no employment, no nothing UNLESS you pay another $19.99. I called customer service right away less than 20 minutes after I signed up and paid. They first denied the lack of info and said they would "look into my account." They left me on hold for 10 minutes (felt like 15) and then disconnected me. Ripped off!

I expected more information other than horoscope or signs. Disclosures about additional charges and fees should be clear and before purchase and before charging the credit card holder's account. Fees about PDF use, fees and charges about obtaining more information other than name, birthday, zodiac sign and address, should be posted clearly in the advertisement, and not after credit card charges are final.

Your service should include some of the services you charge extra for OR you should give your customers that information up front & give them the choices. 3. You weren't accurate or fair in your description of your services, but now you want your customers to extend you truthful comments. OK, I can do that. You didn't warn people that they would get little more information paying you than if they stopped with the first step. Data is so inaccurate when not missing completely. I wish I could get a refund. People that I know are married or married/divorced have no records. People that I know are doctors have no license listed. Wherever you're getting your data leaves everything to be desired. The site itself is visually unbecoming and very annoying to use.
The "buy $20 worth of more information" sales screen interrupts the viewing of what little information is available. This really isn't right to convince people into paying $23 for a month of your service, then tell them they need to spring for another $2 if they want to read or store the file, then top that off with $20 more for each retrieval, and you still don't give anywhere near complete or accurate information. I couldn't be more disappointed. I want a refund. I do NOT want my card charged for another month. I'll never get family searches done with your service as it is presently.

Incorrect info on gun permits, social media, some relatives are there and other are not which is a sibling. Seems very sketchy information for the price one is charged and then if you want more info there's another fee, of course. Seems more like a bait and switch scheme to me. Don't be surprised if I call in a couple of days and ask for a refund. Will do some more searches to see if the information (correct or not) is what I'm willing to pay for.

Some searches fail to show accurate search detail, in other words, no information that person existed. But other information was accurate. Some information on searches were not available, such as, divorce records. Other information could not locate person or that they even existed.

I would like to update my review with I'm happy to say a good outcome. Checkmate was very professional and refused all my money that was charged to me. Credit card. I no longer have an issue with this comment and appreciate them handling my dispute fully and professionally.
I hope others will still use their website for information. I just want able to find what I was looking for. I'm sure others, may have better luck.
My main issue though was being charged without my consent, but checkmate was very quick and professional and as I said they refused me in full. Thank you Checkmate for resolving my issue completely. :-)

I was looking for court records of divorce and marriages and addresses. I was directed to this site and was supposed to be a free trial. I did a search and found nothing. The information on myself was over 30 years old and my husband's even older. I tried to cancel but found I was charged now 3 times 20 something and also another 9.95 I believe for as I said I have NO IDEA what it was for. I never gave consent for these charges. This was supposed to be cancelled. I continued my search I believed was on another FREE site but it appears instead was related to Instant Checkmate and I was charged on my bank statement recently for I have no idea what.
Besides the monthly fee that was supposed to be cancelled another charge from this company? I never found anything on Instant Checkmate. It did its long saying it was gathering information then went to done and have your report but no way to get this report? Or would only give the name and possible relatives, which were such old ex wives or others from over 30 years ago? No other information. This site claimed you would receive all kinds of information such as background info, divorce and marriage records, sex offenders, etc. I never was able to see any of this so wanted this cancelled before it was charging me. But it has now, been I believe charged to my account 3 times 20 something dollars plus an extra charge of I believe $9.95 for I have no idea what?
I never received anything but a name and possible relatives and very old outdated information, but not anything I needed or didn't already know. I would like my money back for a service I never wanted after seeing it did not really provide you with all these things it claimed to provide. Then to see I was charged even more than the monthly fee which I didn't even want was shocking. How do I STOP these charges and receive a refund for all these charges already made? If I go on to try searching what I THINK is ANOTHER search site that says it is FREE, I seem to keep getting the same search information, which is nothing more than names and old addresses from AGAIN Instant Checkmate.
My search seems to be defaulted to them or they have a lot of aliases you don't realize you're on their site. I just want to have the charges refunded that I never should have been charged and have my searching stop automatically going to this company. And no further charges made on my bank account. It would be very very inconvenient to have my bank stop the charges and refund those already charged as they would have to cancel my card and send me a new one, which I don't want to have to do, but I will have no choice if that is the only way to stop the charges and refund all the charges already made.
I cannot recommend this company as their claims you can receive all this information on anyone, is simply not true. This is crazy I believe I've been charged over $50 dollars now for nothing. Don't use this site and careful you don't get on their search site by accident. I would be happy to update my review to say Instant Checkmate took care of my complaint and refunded my money. As they certainly should. But I don't know if that will be the case as of yet.

One thing I never did was go over my bank account statements and yesterday I just happened to be browsing through them. I noticed an unauthorized wireless transaction from "CHKMATE*INSTANTCHECKMA". My first reaction was Instant who??? I do NOT recall making any wireless purchases never the less did I authorised any type of payment or purchase to this provider or whatever it's best to call "it"...
My complaint isn't about phony advertising, fake promotions etc... etc... I'm here because I want my money back, I'm sure that the services you provide to the public are worth paying for or not, I don't know and don't care to know either. Just do what ever stupid "Process" needs to be done to prove it was an unauthorized transaction so I can have my money back. The sooner the better since my car runs on gas not water, and I put myself in a budget in order to save not to give it away.

I ordered a report from Instant Checkmate and was not really happy with the information provided. I paid $22 initially, then another $19.99 for the premium report. Not much I did not know already and most of the info was inaccurate. Additionally, if I wanted to look up any other person that may be connected to the one I searched, I had to pay another $19.99 for each additional person. It is not clearly stated what you are going to receive up front, as far I am concerned.
There is a note that there are no hidden fees. However, I was unaware that I had to pay an additional $19.99 for premium service, then small fees here and there to obtain current telephone numbers or current address information. You also receive lots of information about strangers, which I did not want to see. I think you should have an option to see "possible" other matches for the person you are researching. Finally, I was not given a receipt or order number for my purchase. This was not at all what I expected and I think the cost was much more than it should be. I would like the $19.99 refunded as there was nothing premium about this information.

I was very disappointed in the service. I was searching someone that I KNOW has a criminal record and it shows absolutely nothing in the way of any type of criminal history. Example of how I know is that in 2009 this person filled out a job application and left out that they were convicted of any felonies. About one week later this person was let go because they were told that the company's background check came back and it showed their felonies. Also there are a lot of other missing information and what is there is very vague.

This is a pretty lame site with minimal information. And even when I have upgraded for more information it was equally dissatisfying. This is basically information I could get for free if I felt like searching. And it's so minimal. No marriage records, no divorce, minimal criminal. Incomplete and incorrect addresses, etc and so on.

I am trying to find information on my great grandmother that gave my grandmother up for adoption. I tried Instant Checkmate and forked over the monthly fee to view any information that is not already easily found on the internet. Once it went through the search process, I received the easy info and the request for $20 more to the "Premium" report. Seems like a rabbit hole to keep you paying. Provided me with complete and total dissatisfaction.

I ended up setting up two separate accounts because it does not save your information, you put the email address in you know you used and it says no such email exists. So every time you are logged out you have to start all over and re-pay the same fee. There is no email from them or anything and no way to go back in to your account. I am not impressed.

On Feb 13, 2015 I subscribed to Instant Checkmate for $22.86. Then I was told to pay $1.99 for PDF and then $19.99. Within a matter of a couple of hours I changed my mind. I was told I could only get 50% of my money back. I did not get any information on the person I was looking for. The rep I spoke with had a nasty attitude. I was told I could use it for a month since I had paid for it. I told him "I didn't want it. I want a refund of all payments." He said I could get $22.86. I want the whole amount that I paid $44.84 refunded to my account. No information was received, plus I didn't even keep the services for 5 hrs. I hope this issue can be resolved soon. Thank you.

I signed up for a 5 day trial on Feb. 7 for $1.00. Silly me thought Feb. 12 was day 5 and I had to call to cancel (a huge inconvenience in itself). Anyways she said it was cancelled and I would get a confirmation email in an hour. I call 2 hours later after no email and discovering they charged 25 dollars to my PayPal account. The woman that answered basically told me the transaction was complete so it was a done deal. I had to request a supervisor 4 or 5 times before she would transfer me (after telling me I didn't have to be rude...... well lady, get me your freaking boss!)
Anyways he gets on the phone and just spouts off their terms and conditions blah blah blah. My point is I don't want this service for the next month because it is utterly useless, I can find more info searching Google, so I had to argue with this guy for 10 minutes to only get a 50% refund! Seriously! 50%? So I just wasted $15 on NOTHING! I am livid and will let anyone I know to steer clear of these idiots!

I received an email inviting me to find out about myself. No mention of any fee or charge. Well I spent too much time filling out the forms AND THEN never received the report about myself. If I were a cussing man I would utter some very disruptive words about how I feel. DON'T BOTHER! Signed up and looked info available for $1. Nothing! I get more from Google. Based on that, I decided not to upgrade for $20+ for more info. Had a feeling, I would be disappointed again. Checked my CC statement today and this company dropped a reoccurring charge of $29.63. It was not clear, and I looked, that they would do this despite the "customer service rep" saying it was. This site/service is not worth $1. Their business practices are designed by lawyer to be just on the legal side of a scam.

I agreed to help my reunion committee search for missing classmates. Our 50th reunion is a few months away. Using this site mainly, I have found over 100 classmates. Other committee members are doing the actual contacting. I have so far called a few people where graduation information was sketchy. I would highly recommend this site for reunion planners. Men are easier than women; I have found that Ancestry.com provides excellent marriage records. Then, I take the new information back here to complete the search and obtain addresses.

I've done several searches so far and each set of results came back within seconds, with the person I needed was always within the top 5 names. Enough data for date safety or babysitter check if needed, or can be used to monitor self or family in case of fraud. Also could be helpful in family tree research when dates are needed. There is one slight problem if you use Mozilla Firefox to access.. some reports will list same date for marriage and divorce, but not all of them. Overall it's a good value and in a format that is easy to read and/or skip through.

I have been using instant checkmate for some time now. When I enrolled, I mistakenly signed up for the monthly at 22.86 when I should have selected the 6-month plan. I am working on an ancestry project and this site is helpful in locating people. I planned to continue using this site for a long time; however, not at the monthly rate. That is just not cost effective. When I called customer service today, I was told they could cancel me effective tomorrow so I won't be charged for another month and then I could log back in and sign up for the 6-month option. I was hoping to get some fees waived so that I could continue on with instant checkmate. I probably will not based on this and will look for another site online.

The information they provided was outdated by years phone # addresses. It showed that my wife was married to my daughter. Just lots of inconsistent information. I recommend being careful with info you get from this site. I was unable to get a refund after cancelling my recurring billing.

The website gave very little information and wanted me to pay even more for more information. Then, I had my credit card charged for six months before I realized what the $22.86/month charge represented. The customer service line is well trained to talk in circles, refuse to answer questions and tell you tough luck, you're out the money. They are deceptive con artists, in my opinion and their whole operation is a SCAM.

What a scam! I tried to get an exact marriage date for my former marriage, and it said I could access that on my report if I paid a fee which I did then it asked for an upgrade charge to further access it and they charged me several times. All in all they charged for things I did not ask for as well as what I asked for that was not delivered. They apologized after cutting me off and talking to four different customer service reps on a long distance international call and said they would return half the money on everything but they still during the 30 minutes they had my credit card abused it and me. Don't use this service!

I signed up for Instant Checkmate less than an hour ago and was very disappointed in with the service. First of all they lure you in with the original pricing scam, excuse me "scheme" for a complete background check. The information that they give you is so basic that anyone can find this out on their own. Then they start to bombard you with various other prices for what they consider to be premium information. Now this is what they lead you to believe that you paid the first fee for. I called to cancel with no hope for a refund. They told me that they had put in a cancel order in and would mail me a confirmation within 24 hours. The customer service rep. also told me that I still had access for a month since I had paid for it. This company may not be a scam but it is so close to being one that it should be flagged. Never Again!!!

I am very impressed with your service, although I am very disappointed in one aspect. When I did a premium search on myself, I was dismayed to discover that almost no new information was provided. So as a basic report, it gives a few pearls but in general, there's little of use. The telephone numbers have not been accurate at all for contact, in fact, free White pages shows more. Doesn't inspire me to pay the $20 bucks for premium data.

The search results yielded nothing more than I could find on google. The site had constant pop ups to upgrade or pay for advanced search features. If you really need a background check, it's cheaper to hire a professional. Also, their 5 day trial period apparent includes the day you signed up, so you effectively get 4, not 5 days. At least when I called to cancel and complain, the rep was very nice and they refunded the crazy monthly charge since my interpretation of 5 days was different than theirs.
This site might be useful for people who are too lazy or too inexperienced to do basic searching on their own. The search results were nothing outside of what I could easily find using google, the only potential benefit I could see is that it provided those results in one shot. But given that it would take me only a few minutes to find the same results and given how annoying the pop ups were and how they seem to nickle and dime you for everything, I can't recommend this at all. Also hard to take seriously when part of the search results include your astrological compatibility...

Convicted murderers have a clean report from you. Pamela ** has numerous felony convictions, a marriage and divorce from Francis **, and there is ABSOLUTELY no note of this. Public records can be googled on the internet - for FREE - that have this BASIC information.
Alexander ** of Kingston, PA (who you correctly stated lived in Staten Island, NY - has SEVERAL PUBLIC CONVICTIONS reported in the New York Times, Daily News, etc.). He plead guilty to Manslaughter in Staten Island, NY (He killed his own child). Convicted of failure to pay child support in Kingston, PA and was put in jail for a 2 year sentence. Then just recently, he was convicted of aggravated assault and sent to prison by PA State and served his time under the auspices of Luzerne County PA.
I would like a refund. You failed to find ANY well publicized convictions in well known and well documented states that keep EXCELLENT PUBLIC RECORDS!! You are TERRIBLE, I WANT MY CARD CREDITED BACK IN FULL!!

Amazed at the company's responsiveness! I received an email offering a refund which I didn't need because I certainly got my money's worth. I just thought they should know that site navigation was difficult.
Want to add that the search engine is extremely fast and the information given (age, past cities, related people) is very helpful in deciding which person to choose for more detailed information. That detail includes previous addresses, phone numbers links to social media. Very helpful in determining if this is the person you are seeking, especially when tracking down old friends and past co-workers.
Upgrading to four stars based on the company's responsiveness and quality and quality of information that you can find there. Will take it to five stars when site navigation is more user-friendly.

They advertised all records - criminal - marriage - divorce. I ran a friend with several marriages and divorces on other sites but not on Checkmate! One divorce is where he lives now couple are where he lived previously, they have the residence record. He is on several public sites, again didn't pick up. I paid extra for my personal record..... didn't pick up records in Denton County, Tx where I was a Deputy and/or residence there!!!! Didn't pick up residence in Coalgate, Coal County, Oklahoma where I lived most of my life..... nothing on foreign travel/living for about 10 years.....

I have used your site to locate people for a 50-year class reunion. I have had good luck finding many. Also, sometimes I need local addresses for a church group or an old work group. This site is the most expensive that I have used but has also had the best consistent results. I also signed up for your reverse phone look-up because of my curiosity factor. I never answer my cell phone with a number that isn't recognized. So I look here to see who has called. I have had primarily good results. Some that it can't find are probably blocked calls of advertisers.

Even though the promotion I accepted was to be for one month only, there was recurring billing. As a professional, I needed specific information about specific people in order for the service to be worthwhile. It fell far short. It might be helpful in finding out if your neighbor is a sexual offender, but anyone can go online and get that information without paying a monthly fee.

Overall, the service is fair: i.e. About 5 or 6 out of 10. Too many obvious items are inaccurate or missing. "No hidden fees" and the first thing we see is 19.95 for "premium content". Right. Could have stated that more clearly at first. I would pay for "premium content" if I were sure it had some real added value. I'm reluctant to try at this juncture, have been cheated by info sites before.... At least there is a bit of info available. Not what I expected. Additionally, the site is very hard to use with an Ipad IV from Apple.

I've searched for many people I know, and even those with criminal backgrounds, divorces, etc. show no information. I think you need to be more upfront that you're only able to provide a small % of what is out there. Your initial advertising is extremely misleading; approaching the point that I am considering a chargeback.

I signed up hoping to see a full report only to find out into the process that you need to sign up for the premium with additional charges to see the whole report. I basically paid 22 dollars to see only my basic personal profile which is not even updated, ridiculous. You cannot even cancel online. You need to call to be able to do that, which I did immediately 20-30 minutes after signing up. Horrible experience. I feel duped.

I have changed my review on this company from one star to three. Their customer service response since I posted this complaint has been stellar and I have been given a full refund. I give them (and Ashley G., Dir. of Member Services) high praise for being so responsive and concerned with my satisfaction. I would probably give them four stars except for all the time I had to spend getting to this point.

I was pulled in by their ads and even went for the additional charges for the PDF printable report ($1.99) and "Premium" report (Basic report $22.86, Premium an additional $19.99). What I got was page after page of blank paper, information easily found on the internet by any amateur, terribly outdated information, missing information that should have been easy for them to locate, and associates and other information about people who have absolutely no connection to the person's background I was checking.
The address given is from years ago and is of a relative of my subject, not my subject, and no marriages or divorces were found - although there has been at least one of each and maybe more. There was also only one criminal charge found although there have been more. I paid $44.84 and got absolutely nothing of value - nothing new, and pages of information about people I care nothing about. I feel totally scammed!

The main thing I wanted was marriage records and this only worked on one search because the name was so unusual. Therefore, I am very disappointed in the service. Lot of information. However, I am a long time computer person (over 50 yrs) and use to set up systems. Most of the info is too general and most info was worth nothing. I have difficulty understanding what you can get the Middle Initial and age and bring up someone with name of Miller and then cannot use this info to check Marriage and Divorce and Criminal records except to ask for more and more money from your customers.

The site is nicely set up to make you think they are searching for information. Then they tell you click here for more information, then another wait for search ensues. Then after a few minutes of this, once they think you are attached enough to see the reward for your time, they try to charge you some money in the teens. When I decided to leave the site, a popup window says be a member for $1 for 5 days. So I pay with PayPal. I get my info (a search on my name to test), but it is just links to Facebook and other media that may or may not be mine. Over half the links were not even about me and any time it looked like they had some useful info, I got the screen to pay for the premium data.
So beware! Smooth looking site, good web programmers, and maybe good support, but no accuracy and lots of tricks to harvest your money, just like other commenters mention.

When I checked a certain person I was given a first initial and last name and city. But when I purchased the premium I received no information that pertained to that person. I feel ripped off.

Had good success because with the class commencement program providing full names & knowing all are same age, helps with hit rate. Plus identifies deceased. Be nice if more had the email, only occasionally is that provided. I have recommended to several other classes & even found a few of their lost to show the benefit. There was a key one (class officer) - I found city, but recent marriage did not produce new husband's name.

This is by far the worse use of money I ever spent. The info you get is at best minimal and it will cost you $20.00 just to find out there is not much more if anything. So far I spent $65.00 in a matter of hours and got nothing of use. Simply put I was robbed.

There's nothing that the report stated that I couldn't discover by simply completing a "Google search". Wasted money on this sham. Showed me ZERO criminal record results, even when searching someone I know personally with an extensive criminal record. This is misleading in its advertising and you get hit with a 20 dollar fee if you want to know what you paid for initially. Fool me once....

Even after you make a purchase, they keep harassing you to buy the "premium package." Also, despite the fact that they clearly say that they "don't believe in trial packages," they will offer you a $15-day trial if you try to close the website just before purchasing. No one likes a company that says things like "we don't believe in trials" just to get more money and then offers a trial the second a customer might leave.
Also, the information is often EXTREMELY outdated (my mother was divorced in 2001, it shows the record (only for the divorce) but keeps her marriage name as her official name). It also fails to include her two other marriages and subsequent divorces and her traffic violations. All in all, I can easily say that I could have gotten all of this information myself for free by doing a few searches of google and yellow pages (which is where they get a lot of their information from).
Despite the fact that they say we have to pay so much is because they have to pay a lot to get the information, this is not the case for most of it. Sure, they pay some employees, but they use a lot of free websites to gather info (from what I've seen, but I admit that I may be wrong). You also have to pay an "administrative fee" to be allowed to get the PDF of your report, which is just ridiculous. Administrative fees are supposed to be charged only when it adds to a company employee's workload, which auto-generating a PDF does not.

I feel like this was a complete waste of my money. I searched for information on several people and I did not find out anything I had not already found when searching on my own. In fact, I found far more information doing my own searching than I found using this site. I was hoping that this site would have more detailed information but it does not. I am very disappointed.

When ordering the service, I was under the impression that I would get reports about the people I looked up. This is not true unless you buy an upgrade. I can't even print off the little bit of information that I do get. I have looked up several people and their marriage and/or divorce information is not available. It doesn't tell you if they are an offender, it just says that there are offenders in the area. I looked someone up today and it said it found 5 matches that live in Kansas, but none of them had any Kansas information at all. I looked myself up and it had me living in houses I've never been to, let alone live there. There is nothing given that constitutes calling this a report of any kind. I would love to have a refund, but live and learn.

I thought I was being charged 22.98 and was charged more than $44, for nothing. I have read the report and it is incomplete, I know some of the criminal history and none listed!!! What a waste of money and time!!!!

Extremely disappointed that I had to pay TWICE for the same information. The initial report indicated you had criminal records on the individual I was searching and when I paid an additional $19.95 the report I obtained did NOT HAVE criminal records. I think Checkmate is a tool you can use to start a background search. However, the amount of detail and accuracy of data is limited. I understand some of the nuances of this challenge. However, to the inexperienced researcher, the feature creep pop ups are just horrible. One screen of information leading to another pay as you go screen. Before you know it, you have spent around a 100 dollars and for what? When I compare checkmate to my own ability to research using free or comparative products, I can only use it as a starting point. It is not worth the cost for the inaccurate information that is received. I decided to try this service and tested it on myself. I have been married and divorced twice and I had to use my maiden name and both married names and it still did not associate me with my first ex-husband. It did not give any info on either of my marriages or my divorces (which was explained to me that not all information is public record). It did not show any of my social medias. I was able to go straight to my social media through Google. So this should have been public record which did not come up on any of my three names search.
You can cancel your membership but you still have to pay upfront for the services. So I suggest if you are curious enough to try the membership I suggest only for 1 month membership even though more months are cheaper in the long run. You do not get your money back at all. This is an expensive lesson learned. I used the site for maybe at the most 1 hour and found nothing more than what was already known through searching through Google for free and cost me $60.00.

If all you want from this sham of a company is an address and social media info go to the Internet and get the info for free! This is all you get for your $22.86. They leave out the detail that in order to get the important data like criminal, credit etc. you'll need to pay another $19.99. But they do not tell you this until after you pay the $22.86. This company performs outright deceit and should be banned from doing business on the Internet and the FBI should take a look at any company that is in the business of duping the consumer.

On their sign up page they say no hidden fees. I signed up for the PREMIUM package. Silly me, I thought I'd get the information I wanted. If you know a person's name it will give you an address and a bunch of junk you didn't ask for. In order to get a phone number or do a reverse phone number check (if you don't have a name) they want you to pay more. It's only 1.99 at first glance but if you read on, they bill you at a rate of monthly so it's 1.99 a day. Very deceptive indeed. So in essence it doesn't cost 25 a month it costs about 50 a month. In my opinion it is a big time rip off. Paying for premium should mean exactly that. They don't tell you about the extra fees up front. As the saying goes buyer beware. And because you aren't happy sorry they still nail you for a month of nothing.

I purchased a premium background check on myself before applying for a job working for a friend. The application requested any criminal records be listed. Having gotten into some minor trouble as a young adult, I enlisted Instant Checkmate to be sure of accuracy. Nothing turned up on my background report that I paid the premium report price for, so I figured I could check no to the criminal history box. Months later I received an offer contingent upon a background check. No problem, I pre-screened myself with Instant Checkmate right? Well, turns out Instant Checkmate was inaccurate and I had the job offer rescinded - my fault I guess, but I went off of information I paid good money for, and ended up losing a $72,000 a year job offer with the largest University in Michigan. I paid them $43 to lose $72,000.

I ordered a background report from this company on a person I know has a criminal record. The web page advertised you could get access to police and criminal records. I performed a search and selected the report for the person I was looking for. I paid the $22.98 fee and viewed the report. It was rubbish, riddled with errors and inconsistency. It contained records of the person I was looking for mashed in with records of other people with similar name. It did not even pull up the arrest records of the person in question.
The report told me the person I was looking for did not have a record existing, although I know there are at least 2 this year - they are in prison now. They gave me the arrest report of someone who didn't even have the same race or name as the person I was looking for. When I got to the arrest records, a pop up came and told me that it did not find arrest records for her but for $19.99 the database would do a premium search.
Frankly after paying $22.98 to find out incorrect information and silly information like astrology sign and amazon wish list settings, I was not about to put down more money for more incorrect information. I do not recommend this service. It did not provide me with the information I was looking for and worse, is providing information on unrelated persons. That might lead to libel or slander charges if I acted on any of the information in this report.

I recently used the service for the background check called: Instant Checkmate. At first I could not understand the information that was shown as it appeared to be a compilation of two or more backgrounds. I made this known to the service and a "general" explanation was offered as to the accuracy. I was skeptical and concluded the conversation.
I was therefore surprised to receive a phone call from a customer relations individual who took the time to explain the procedures to follow. He immediately offered a refund as he understood the problem and made every effort to determine that the issue had been settled to my satisfaction. It was, and I commend the follow-up and the professional manner in which the issue was handled and would recommend the site and suggest, as was indicated, that any user should use the premier service for a complete view of a background.

I signed for a one time view of a record and after providing the required information, I received a report with a address that had not been used in twenty and a location that had not been lived in for that time. Half the report concerned another individual who is half the age of the individual being sought. The entire process of the site is to have a "come on" for a premium service--or the basic information that you believed you had paid for. When the company was contacted the only explanation was that they had limited access to information and could not tell if it was timely or accurate and perhaps extra money should be paid... "to see other information." This site is bogus in its representations and not recommended unless you want to continue to put coins into "their information slot machine." You will only receive lemons to view.

This company promotes personal information about individuals on their complete background. However when you click to start the process it makes you believe that you will get the accurate information so you pay and then the report is a complete joke. Most of the information cannot be determined if it's actually the individual or someone else with a similar name and doesn't give you any more information then if you just Googled the individual for background information. Don't pay for this service! You will be sorry!

This is a joke. I just purchased the one-month membership. Since there was nothing there of any use, I had to pay the additional 19.99 for more information. Again, there was no information that I hadn't already gotten from FREE public records. I requested information on a person that I know for a fact has a long and active criminal background and yet nothing but the last 2 recent arrests was there. Again, free public records. What part of "background" did I miss here? A waste of money and time.

After a response from Instant Checkmate and an unexpected phone call from my last review I am changing my rating. They have excellent customer service. Their are many people that have same name and I can see where there can be some confusion in compiling records.
As they said in their response to me some jurisdictions do not release certain records to the public, so they are unable to provide records for people living in certain areas. Users of this website should use their own judgment to determine if the information they receive is about the person they are searching for or if it for someone else with the same name.

From what I have seen most of the information on this site is wrong. The names and date of birth were correct. Some of the phone numbers are also correct. The rest of the information they give is a guessing game if not just plain wrong. Their site is putting up information from other people with the same name and misleading people letting them believe it is for the person you are looking up. The worst part is after paying $22 for a subscription they want you to pay another $19.99 to view the information they said they were going to show you for the $22.

Evidently due to a problem with the company's technical set up, an account was never created for my application. HOWEVER there was no problem taking my money ...TWICE...within seconds of each other. Of course I am told that a refund has been issued and that I should have my 90.00 in 5 business days. No report though. And the only way that I can get one is to pay yet another 45.00. Hmmm.....
