What is Instant Checkmate?
Instant Checkmate lets you look up a person’s information by typing in their name, age and location in the search console. Instant Checkmate asks you questions about the person as it searches databases to narrow results down to the right match.
Once you have a match, you purchase a membership subscription to access the report. A subscription gives you access to unlimited reports for as long as you are enrolled.
You can look up the following information and more using Instant Checkmate:

- Sex offenders registration
- Arrest records
- Census data
- Social media profiles
- Bankruptcy history
Strict guidelines dictate how and why you can use a public records search service. Instant Checkmate is not a consumer reporting agency, and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) prohibits using Instant Checkmate to look up any information governed by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Before using Instant Checkmate, make sure you review the guidelines of what you can and can’t do with the information found on its site.

Instant Checkmate offers two subscription plans. Both plans give you access to unlimited reports. The company bills one-month subscriptions every 30 days and three-month subscriptions every 90 days.

The service is great! It just doesn’t help me with my situation. It’s not the software’s fault … Or the company’s either. You can’t get what the government won’t give you. But if you want to find out a lot about someone this the app that’ll help you! I did find the guy we're looking for … We found out a lot about him! Just not the information we were hoping for. And he is either dead or had broken contact with my family.

When I subscribed for the basic 30-day service they automatically charged me an additional $4.99 for an upgraded service i did not subscribe to. I had to call in to get that service cancelled and get a $4.99 refund. They did refund my money promptly.

I really can’t leave a review because I didn’t do it, or I don’t remember doing it. I think one of my kids might have. I tried to leave a review for customer service but it would not let me do it, just kept saying that my answers weren’t correct or something, but I just wanted to say that customer service was amazing. They were very patient, listened to all my questions, and answered all my questions to the best of their abilities. So I was very, very happy with the customer service.

I felt deceived with the information on what I was expecting to learn or gain. I was looking for marriage information on my father in law, knowing he had two. All the info showed was a location name, not multiple. It didn’t provide name of wife(s) or marriage date(s), of which I was looking for. Also, his known addresses and dates associated to his name were incorrect and didn’t align with my mother in law’s report - they both lived together the whole time they were married. There was even an out of state address on one of their records. Neither parent lived out of state. I would not recommend this service or any like it.

The report I needed was all the places we have lived in the past, in my wife's name. The report confused my wife's addresses with another person who lived at the same address, but on 35th Avenue COURT, while she lived on 35th Avenue.

I also want to address the customer service I received during my recent calls. I have been an Instant Checkmate customer for several years, and one of the reasons I remained a customer was because your support team had always been professional, courteous, and willing to help resolve issues. Unfortunately, my recent experiences have been the complete opposite.
The representative I spoke with today was, without question, the rudest customer service representative I have ever dealt with. Rather than listening and trying to understand the issue, he repeatedly dismissed my questions, interrupted me, and made me feel as though resolving my account concerns was an inconvenience. During a previous call, another representative became impatient while I was locating my payment information and disconnected the call before I had the opportunity to finish.
That level of service was shocking, especially because it does not reflect the high standard of customer service I have come to expect from Instant Checkmate over the years. I sincerely hope this experience is not representative of your company as a whole. I would appreciate having this matter reviewed by a supervisor or manager who can fairly evaluate my account, address the billing issues, and restore my confidence in your service.

I canceled my subscription with Instant Checkmate, but they continued to secretly charge my card without my knowledge or consent. Because these unwanted charges were hidden on a credit card statement I didn't actively monitor due to assuming the account was closed, a small recurring fee turned into a 90-day late payment. This single error dropped my credit score by 100 points, completely destroying a 7-year perfect credit history. As a direct result, I was hit with a denial on my mortgage application at the absolute worst time. Their sneaky recurring billing practices and lack of transparent cancellation confirmation do real, lasting financial damage to consumers. Avoid this company at all costs.

This is the most horrible experience I’ve ever had with regards to an app that was supposed to be helpful and finding information about interesting persons in my children’s past, and then every time I tried to sign on, which was only three times I had to change my password, I had to change my sign in and still no help and as far as history and actual reports on people negative information, unbelievable.

Becoming more and more dissatisfied and I am considering dropping the subscription (and I am a long-time subscriber!). First, the new format is not that user-friendly to me. Secondly, the phone numbers provided are extremely out-of-date. In one recent case, there were 7 phone numbers shown, and none of them were still in service. So, I STILL cannot locate the person I'm searching for. Thirdly, I am not happy that birthdates are not given any longer--just month and year. Until very recently, the primary was not shown the exact birthdate, but "Timeline" occasionally showed a relative's date of birth. Now, even that avenue is closed off. Your website is coming to be much less useful to me than before.

I received no more information on this service than what I could get from my state's public records for $1. They also try to repeatedly upsell you for more info. Very disappointed and do not recommend.

Buyer beware. This company has details in fine print at the bottom of the page in a disclaimer that they can’t get all public records that are offered. Normally when purchasing a background check, I wouldn’t go to the fine print to make sure what they offer is truly available. Public records wouldn’t be something I would have thought would be hit or miss. Customer service manager was pretty condescending. Lesson learned.

The representative was very helpful, and after I declined the upgrade offer, she proceeded to cancel my account. I was quite disappointed that I could not locate any information regarding the phone number. Please note that refunds are not issued; usage is permitted for a 30-day period. I informed her that I would not be utilizing the service and wished to cancel. She processed the cancellation and requested that I remain on the line to complete a survey, which subsequently disconnected. My phone number is within the 702 area code, not 802.

Time-consuming to get basic info. Regular monthly subscription rate is high. I wish I could pay on an individual search, rather a monthly subscription. In the past I have paid for a search with a one-time fee of $1.95.
