What is Instant Checkmate?
Instant Checkmate lets you look up a person’s information by typing in their name, age and location in the search console. Instant Checkmate asks you questions about the person as it searches databases to narrow results down to the right match.
Once you have a match, you purchase a membership subscription to access the report. A subscription gives you access to unlimited reports for as long as you are enrolled.
You can look up the following information and more using Instant Checkmate:

Strict guidelines dictate how and why you can use a public records search service. Instant Checkmate is not a consumer reporting agency, and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) prohibits using Instant Checkmate to look up any information governed by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Instant Checkmate offers two subscription plans. Both plans give you access to unlimited reports. The company bills one-month subscriptions every 30 days and three-month subscriptions every 90 days.

No, Instant Checkmate does not notify any search subjects.
Is Instant Checkmate legal?

Checkmate is a great resource for looking up public data. It was pretty easy to use. Used it to check if a long distance friend was still alive because she went dark on me for a couple of month without notice. After I was done using the service I needed to reset my password & cancel my membership but the automated numbers I called were no help at all. I tried calling each twice and each time it either would not send me a link to update my password or would not take my login info to cancel my account. This is the reason for the minus 1 star. I called back and got a person on the line and that went wonderfully! Lucy was the one who helped me. She was very polite, efficient, and helpful!

I used this last year while trying to verify someone who was supposedly had some sort of working relationship with my deceased mother. Once I got the information I needed, I thought I'd cancelled the subscription. However, I did not and was charged a nominal fee over the next few months. Once I realized this, I called Instant Checkmate and the customer service representative was extremely helpful and cancelled my subscription while I was on the phone. Very helpful and was easy to do.

I see that you had a different phone number when you sent me this email. This explains why when I called your main phone number, they did not acknowledge my real phone number. I have listed my real phone above. It was a bit of a run around to get charges dropped for services I did not authorize. I will give the young lady on the phone credit. She was able to get things straightened out. Unfortunately, I did use your services in June and July. I was unable to find up to date information on a long lost friend. Based on my experience, your company does not have up to date info.

I was going to cancel my subscription and my phone has biometrics plus it saves all passwords to my phone. It’s an Apple iPhone 14 and it should not have an issue. Your system would not allow me to change my password. It wouldn’t even allow me into my account when I never changed the password in the beginning so then I clicked need to reset my password and then it became a problem. I couldn’t get in there and it wouldn’t allow me in there at all. Even downloading the app no matter how many times you sent me the link the link would not work so I’m canceling because I’m not gonna play that game. I’m not going to do it. I don’t need a reason. It’s a personal choice.
Not that your company didn’t give me what I needed when I first paid for whatever little report I got, which is appreciated, but I wanted to cancel and literally refused to let me in to be able to cancel. That means I had to physically call the 800 number and speak with somebody to cancel my subscription and I shouldn’t have to do that. It makes me feel harassed and I don’t appreciate it. Fix your system. Make it easier for people to change their passwords if needed and you might not have this problem. I shouldn’t have had to call the 800 number. Otherwise, your company does exactly what it says. It does provides background checks on people. Again I appreciate that but some people need to cancel. They have no reason why. They just have to cancel and it’s not fair to me as a customer that I had to go through any of this.

Instant Checkmate was a fast and easy transaction for me. I found what I needed the first time. It is a good resource to find out what personal information is out there for the world to see. I am very dissatisfied with the outcome. I provided all the detailed information requested, yet I did not receive the information I was looking for. I was unable to obtain any details about his employment history, educational background, or family records. Essentially, I paid for a service that failed to deliver the results I expected, and I feel that my money was spent for no reason whatsoever.

I would give 0 stars if possible!!! I just purchased one month service and just needed to review the report that I just purchased... Instead, you guys designed your website to take me to the next screen to sell me another $4.99 per Month service to download the report to PDF; so, when I called your customer service number, the girl tells me to log onto the Instant Checkmate website on another tab to access my report and what continues!!?? It opens up to ANOTHER page telling me to pay ANOTHER $35.47 to access my report that I ALREADY PAID FOR, BUT CANNOT ACCESS!!! You guys are CONS!!! How dare you try to manipulate your site to have your customers keep signing up for ADDITIONAL, PAYING SERVICES, when they already paid Once and don't even allow your customers to Access WHAT THEY ALREADY PAID FOR!!! I am reporting you to the BBB!!!

I NEVER received any services I attempted to sign up for and was still charged and then my subscription charged me again. When I contacted your company they couldn’t find may account with any information I gave them until I provided the card information. I was told the sign in information would have been sent via email yet they had no valid email account for me. I requested a full refund and was informed I could only get a refund for the current payment. I still want a FULL refund for all monies paid out but I am sure that will not happen as per the way companies conduct business nowadays.
I will NEVER recommend you to anyone and will be going to the BBB as well as my credit card company. What an absolute rip off and your customer service representative admitted that I didn’t get the information simply because she could not find an email address or my phone number. Yep she most definitely found my credit card information. What a waste of time and money. Thanks for absolutely nothing.

I was not able to locate the marriage license certificate I was seeking, as your rep informed me there is no public record of it that is available. In terms of my experience I was confused at being unable, once I pulled up my records page, to simply input the document I was searching for. I had to call a rep, which, it seems to me, should have been unnecessary with a user-friendly design.
