What is Instant Checkmate?
Instant Checkmate lets you look up a person’s information by typing in their name, age and location in the search console. Instant Checkmate asks you questions about the person as it searches databases to narrow results down to the right match.
Once you have a match, you purchase a membership subscription to access the report. A subscription gives you access to unlimited reports for as long as you are enrolled.
You can look up the following information and more using Instant Checkmate:
- Phone numbers
- Email addresses
- Age
- Location history
- Job histories
- Criminal records
- Sex offenders registration
- Arrest records
- Census data
- Social media profiles
- Bankruptcy history
Strict guidelines dictate how and why you can use a public records search service. Instant Checkmate is not a consumer reporting agency, and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) prohibits using Instant Checkmate to look up any information governed by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Before using Instant Checkmate, make sure you review the guidelines of what you can and can’t do with the information found on its site.

Instant Checkmate offers two subscription plans. Both plans give you access to unlimited reports. The company bills one-month subscriptions every 30 days and three-month subscriptions every 90 days.

Yes, Instant Checkmate is safe. The company has a verified Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificate and uses 128-bit encryption. Instant Checkmate also runs malware checks with Norton Antivirus software daily.
Does Instant Checkmate notify the person you’re searching?
No, Instant Checkmate does not notify any search subjects.
Is Instant Checkmate legal?
Yes, it is legal to use Instant Checkmate, but it is illegal to use the service to look up any information governed by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), including screening someone for employment, a lease or credit eligibility. Make sure you follow the search guidelines when using Instant Checkmate.
Is Instant Checkmate free to use?
No, Instant Checkmate is not free. You must sign up for a membership. Memberships start at $35.12 a month and give you access to unlimited reports.
Is Instant Checkmate worth the price?

Even though the information on Instant Checkmate comes from public records, you would have to search through each individual federal, state and county database to find the information. As far as retrieving info on my relatives this site does a great job. I was mainly looking for military records which the site didn`t have. I did call the customer service number, the assoc was very helpful and checked also on his end and could not locate. That`s why I gave a rating of 4.

The service is great! It just doesn’t help me with my situation. It’s not the software’s fault … Or the company’s either. You can’t get what the government won’t give you. But if you want to find out a lot about someone this the app that’ll help you! I did find the guy we're looking for … We found out a lot about him! Just not the information we were hoping for. And he is either dead or had broken contact with my family.

Extremely disappointed with your company. I was attempting to access my father’s military service records. Your website indicated I could obtain that information. When I could not locate the information on my father’s report I contacted customer service. Rodrigo was extremely helpful. But, he said your company was unable to provide that information. Also, I feel your purchasing obtains are extremely deceiving. I purchased the 1 month option. Apparently in the fine print I would be charged on a recurring monthly basis. I only wanted the service records period. I believed I was being charged for a “one shot” deal. Obviously that is not the case.

Reports may include available details such as contact information, address history, possible relatives or associates, criminal or traffic records, military records, social media or online profiles, and other public record information when available. Because the information comes from outside sources, certain records, including military service records, may not always be available or included in every report.
We also want to clarify that Instant Checkmate is a subscription-based service. The recurring billing terms are disclosed several times on the billing page, in the Terms of Use and billing agreement, and again in the welcome email sent after enrollment.

I canceled a subscription July 27th. Only to find out if had 2 and was charged 4.99. The gentleman helping me cancel today was very efficient and professional but this service was supposed to be canceled!

I called to get a refund and I only got one for 1 charge instead of of 2. I never knowingly subscribe to this service. I believe this was a terrible injustice to me, especially in my book during my bereavement time.

As outlined in our Terms of Use, availability of this information depends on what's publicly accessible for that number, so results can sometimes be limited.

Josie took care of refund immediately. I cancelled this service the same day I ordered because I couldn’t easily obtain a printable copy. I was told I would get a refund. I never received until I called back today and spoke to Josie.

I actually knew more than the information I found. It was very old information. Not worth the money. Plus, Instant Checkmate gave me an email to cancel my subscription. They immediately charged me and then sent an email saying I could not cancel that way. After they had provided the email address for cancellation. Very poor business ethics.

I had previously requested a cancellation months ago. When I called today, I was informed that the cancellation was not processed, so Customer Service canceled it today. It appears the employee responsible for the initial cancellation several months ago chose not to honor my request. Consequently, not only did you continue to bill me due to her incompetence, (she did not cancel as requested) but you also refuse to issue a refund. Scammers.

You fooled me. You signed me up for a subscription when I did not join after my 1 month free trial. I tried several times to cancel. Each time you said you cancelled in December of 2024. You lied and I have the bills to prove it. You also lied when you said the error was due to an incorrect EMail. That's odd since today using the one I used when I signed up, the correct one, I was able to change my password and sign in and chat with someone who discovered and corrected your issue in 10 minutes. You stole hundreds of dollars. You are crooks.

We want to note that we do not create accounts on behalf of customers — all accounts are created directly by the customer during sign-up. The account you were able to log into and change the password for had previously been canceled back in June 2023, and there have been no charges on that account since that cancellation.
During your recent chat, the agent located the second, active account and canceled it to prevent any further recurring billing. We also want to clarify that we do not offer any 1-month free trials — we don't offer free trials of any kind. Our trial option is for 5 days, after which it renews at the full subscription amount unless canceled beforehand.

The website and client/customer experience is riddled with ambiguity. I’m fairly good at traversing the web, but I’ve never seen a site so filled with so many deep rabbit holes that would confuse any visitor there. I will be canceling as soon as as I can find the mechanism that is hidden below the confusion that defines this experience.

I felt deceived with the information on what I was expecting to learn or gain. I was looking for marriage information on my father in law, knowing he had two. All the info showed was a location name, not multiple. It didn’t provide name of wife(s) or marriage date(s), of which I was looking for. Also, his known addresses and dates associated to his name were incorrect and didn’t align with my mother in law’s report - they both lived together the whole time they were married. There was even an out of state address on one of their records. Neither parent lived out of state. I would not recommend this service or any like it.

The report I needed was all the places we have lived in the past, in my wife's name. The report confused my wife's addresses with another person who lived at the same address, but on 35th Avenue COURT, while she lived on 35th Avenue.

I also want to address the customer service I received during my recent calls. I have been an Instant Checkmate customer for several years, and one of the reasons I remained a customer was because your support team had always been professional, courteous, and willing to help resolve issues. Unfortunately, my recent experiences have been the complete opposite.
The representative I spoke with today was, without question, the rudest customer service representative I have ever dealt with. Rather than listening and trying to understand the issue, he repeatedly dismissed my questions, interrupted me, and made me feel as though resolving my account concerns was an inconvenience. During a previous call, another representative became impatient while I was locating my payment information and disconnected the call before I had the opportunity to finish.
That level of service was shocking, especially because it does not reflect the high standard of customer service I have come to expect from Instant Checkmate over the years. I sincerely hope this experience is not representative of your company as a whole. I would appreciate having this matter reviewed by a supervisor or manager who can fairly evaluate my account, address the billing issues, and restore my confidence in your service.
