I tried to enter a dispute online and was locked out and then suspended. I called to correct this situation and was told to try to create a new account. That did not work and then I was asked the answer to my secret question. Well, that didn't work either. I was told there was no other way to verify my ID and I would have to send a copy of my driver's license by fax or scan it on email. I told them I didn't have access to either one and then they said, "Well that's all we can do, so your account will stay suspended until we have that information". I asked if I could provide another answer on something only I would have on a report and they said no. "That's all we can do. Have a very nice day!". After wasting my time and giving all my personal info to them , date of birth, social security number which is used by them illegally as they ask for your SSN before even asking for your first and last name, it's in clear defiance of Social Security's rules, I finally said I am not sending anything to them.
In my report they have not corrected disputed items from 2006 that I wrote to them about. They didn't even spell the name of my workplace correctly and gave my occupation incorrectly and that wast just the first page out of 10. I will never use them again and will cancel all info. I will write again and they'd better clean up their act.

I contacted Trans Union as well as Experian and EquiFax credit reporting agencies concerning my FICO score in May 2011. I received credit reports in June 2011, but no explanation for a lowering of the FICO number.
I received a free FICO score from my account with Sears Solutions - HSBS card services where I have a Mastercard account **. The service reported my FICO score as 627 in March 2011. Now in Sept. 2011, it is 583.
I have missed no payments. I only have three accounts--Sears Mastercard, Chesapeake Bank and Suntrust Bank.
As I stated above, I have sent letters to all (3) credit reporting agencies and also phoned FICO, who said they have no control over the FICO number, that the number is based on the information that comes from Trans Union, and the other (2) credit reporting agencies.
If my FICO score was 627 in March, then by God it should be even higher than 627 now, as all bills have been paid ahead of schedule, not late or missed. So something is wrong and I would appreciate your assistance in getting this corrected.

I have filed four different disputes with TransUnion trying to get information corrected/deleted from my credit report. They removed a paid judgment from my husband's account but the same account shows it is unpaid on my report. They insisted that they have done the investigation, but I have made at least 40 phone calls that proved that they have done no investigation. I sent them satisfaction of judgment papers, but they said it doesn't meet the criteria.
"What does?", no reply. They refused to investigate even though they claim they do. I have provided phone numbers for the original creditor and provided documentation. They will not remove it from my report. I am trying to purchase a home, and this has been going on for 3 months. Every time I call, they say 30 days. It's been 3 months. What can I do?

I applied for a job and I agreed for a credit check, and requested that a copy be sent to me. On the first page after "subject name", my name is incorrect. There was a woman, that lived where I do, that shares my first and last name, however she has a different middle initial. I called TransUnion at the number they gave out to report disputes.
This number is routed to India, and the man I got was rude and useless. He spoke so fast, I had to keep asking him to repeat himself, and it annoyed him. I explained the issue with my name, and he said "There is no middle initial.” I told him that I was looking at a copy of the report. He said his screen didn't say that. I offered to fax it to him so he could see it. He said, “You can do whatever you want.”
I asked to speak with his supervisor and he again said, "You can do what you want", and before he transferred me he said, "He's going to tell you the same thing", he was right. Clearly TransUnion settles disputes by denying they exist. As consumers, what recourse do we have?

I needed my annual free credit reports and went through AnnualCreditReport.com to get them. I was able to view and print Experian and Equifax quite easily; however, with Transunion it was a completely different story. I entered the required information and was able to view the first page of the report at which point their web site locked up. I called Customer service and was told that there was nothing they could do, no recourse whatsoever except I could sign up for a paid service. No thanks! Any ideas of any recourse available? I was not able to retrieve my "free credit report" as required by law?

I ordered my credit report through AnnualCreditReport.com. I just received a letter stating, “Unable to locate credit report. Send copies of many items.” The same thing happened last year! At that time, I sent them copies of my social security, driver’s license, work and et cetera. Now here we go again. I just wrote them a letter with copies of this year's letter, and they sent me last year's letter and first page of last year's report. I enclosed a letter stating I want my report as soon as possible with their apology letter, and that I am reporting them to the Consumer Affairs and the Business Bureau (BBB). However, I asked, “What happened to all the copies of my personal information you received?” With everything that is going on, I'm very worried about my information!

It was since Jan.'11 that I have been trying to get my annual free credit report. I requested the form by mail (I don't trust internet w/ my personal info). I filled it out and attached everything they requested to establish my identity. They have not sent me my report, instead, they keep sending me more forms and asking for copies of paid bills, cancelled checks, etc. which I already provided them more than once. About three weeks ago I mailed to them the last ''proof'' and told them that if I don't get my report within 2 weeks that I would report them to the FTC.

I tried to obtain my free annual credit report from Transunion. After I put in my personal information, it asks me to login. I cannot figure out my password and after three wrong attempts I'm blocked out of my account. I try the same process the next day and now I am told that I have received my annual credit report already which is false. It is impossible to call Transunion and ask for help because all their numbers are automated computer systems. If you even go so far as to order your report from them on the phone (which is what they want you to do and why they make it impossible to get your free report) you never get the opportunity to discuss with a representative.

In early December, I had contacted the company at (800)493-3292 to tell them that I wanted to cancel my subscription. The customer service representative had confirmed on the phone that this was done and that no further action was taken. On the 01/04/11, my bank account was debited again for $14.95, and this time, there was an overdraft fee of $10.00. I was not expecting this fee to be drafted from my account any further. I would like the $24.95 to be credited back to my account, and my account canceled, closed, and deleted. Looking at their history and complaints, they are notorious for this. I will also be filing a complaint with my bank.

Even with a copy of my report, I could not get anyone to help me. He told me they did not discuss credit issues via phone and that you could either do that online or via slow mail. Well, I don't use the mail service and I tried online, and apparently missed a question that was 30 years old. Fact is, they have a perfectly good account in the negative accounts. There is no reason to have it there as it is obviously a good account, but it is in the negative. Arrgh! They are the lowest of the bureaus. I have excellent credit of late. They did give me another number to call, and they told me it was not possible to speak to a person at all!
So tell me, what is our world coming too? They have addresses on my credit report going back to the 1970s. I am very disgusted with this.

TransUnion refuses to remove derogatory information from my credit report even when being instructed to do so from my mortgage company. I called them with my mortgage company on the line; they refused to discuss any information about my credit report with a third party on the line. I was told to disconnect the conference call and they would then speak to me. I faxed a letter from my mortgage company that the report was incorrect, and they should remove the derogatory information. They would not accept the letter stating it did not meet criteria, but would not tell me or my mortgage company what the criteria is! Not only would they not accept the letter, they had added more derogatory information! Experian and Equifax have corrected my report within 30 days.

Transunion has a dept under the supposed name of priority handling. However it is a dept which targets anyone who has ever complained about TransUnion. What this department does is violate the Fair Credit Laws of our nation. The way this is done is by making it more difficult for anyone who complained against Transunion. When the customer disputes, something they try to illegally place the burden of proof on the customer when it is on the company. Example to dispute an inquiry, they Chris & Ms. ** stated the customer must provide a letter of proof.
The Fair credit reporting act states the burden of proof is on the company. It is yet another way for major credit reporting agencies to hinder credit repair for customers. TransUnion priority handling is illegal in it's activity. Caused inaccuracies in my credit report, causing possible loss of any benefit tied to a credit report.

I did however find a person with my same first and last name, but different middle initial listed as living in Birmingham, AL. I have contacted Birmingham police twice, to no avail. I have spoken with the Jefferson County Court, in Birmingham, and they could not recognize or verify in any way the docket number's on my credit report. I asked for a credit limit increase from my Discover Card account. All went well until they tried to pull my credit report from TransUnion. A possible new employer or law enforcement or an insurance company has access to my file even though it’s frozen. Also, any current or open financial account on my file can view it whenever they want. TransUnion has blocked Discover Card from viewing my account, this violates the law. Their customer service in India actually told me to tell Discover Card to call them and they would discuss why they are blocking Discover Card. I would like to sue for this violation. It seems they are doing so to force me to pay their fee to thaw the file so they make money instead of following the law. Any help would be appreciated. I have the letter from Discover Card telling me they cannot access my file. I am third year medical student. Currently, I have a monthly membership with one of the credit reporting bureau's so that any alerts on my credit get emailed to me directly as soon as they are posted to my credit history. The reason I signed up for such a service was because the last time I looked at my credit reports, there were numerous discontinuities which I reported and fought to get taken off as they were inaccurate reflections of my financial actions. At the time, it was the first time I had looked at my credit report in 4 years. So I guess expecting some sort of discontinuity was expected. But since then, I have been watching my credit alerts on a monthly basis.
As it so happens, the last time a civil judgement claim was filed against my credit, it came from TransUnion. I went to the courts where the case had been decided and got a letter of good conduct and clean history from the county clerk's office. After I sent that to TransUnion, the fraudulent reportings were taken off. What I would like to highlight is that the burden of proof lay on my shoulders during this procedure as TransUnion in no way helped me to clear my name. Now again, TransUnion has falsely reported another civil judgement on my credit report. Again, there are no telephone numbers provided, no name for the county where the judgement was passed, no case or docket number for me to trace the judgment. Again, the burden of proof is on my shoulders.
Now I understand that credit companies are supposed to bring forth such judgements when necessary. But out of the three credit bureaus, only TransUnion has reported these fraudulent charges on my credit reports and this is not the first time this has occurred. This is my 2nd time in almost as many months that I have to fight these false charges back. I don't expect much, but the least they can do is give me a way to at least talk to the people they got their information from so I can get proof of my innocence. In a perfect world when we (the consumers) file a dispute, usually the credit bureaus go and re-evaluate the problems. But I tried that last time and nothing got done. So I know that I need to get proof myself again, but I don't even know which county/state the civil judgement is from. I am sorry to say but that to me does not look like good business practice, it's just frustrating to fight the same company over again over a similar issue.
The first time such a fraudulent claim was reported against me, I lost my credit cards (one of which was a good standing account of 7 years). Additionally, I also had problems applying for loans as I am a student in Medical School. This time, I had applied for another credit card so that I could start another account to build my credit again, which got denied no doubt based on the reporting of TransUnion's false civil judgment. My next trimester starts in a week and a half. I have no idea how this is going to affect my loans this semester, but quite honestly, if I haven't done the crime I should not have to worry about the time. Yet I may have to face the consequences of someone else's actions, which might lead to me not getting my financial loans this trimester.

I was reading the most recent incident on the consumer affairs website and saw that her issue was identical to mine and this was dated just 3/27/10. I have been making attempts to obtain my credit report from Transunion since I was 18. I am 28 now. My 3 or 4 attempts in the past were meager to say the least. My first response from Transunion was that there was a "Hawk Alert" on my account. Outside of that notice, that was the only information I received. Not an explanation of the alert or my 17 dollars back. Other tries included 3 internet request with which led to a request for more information that I had already provided. Vicious cycle system that beat me for 10 years. I had pretty much given up on trying to get the report just and simultaneously given up on my credit.
Here I am now older, wiser, and ready to work on all the mistakes I made and this is still a barrier even with all my experience in document preparation. This month, I sent color documents of all the necessary information and then some. It even included a color copy of my social security card and just as the woman in the aforementioned article, I receive notices with multiple reasons for me to guess on which it is because I knew I had already sent these documents. I have never laid eyes on my Transunion report. I really need this information to amend my bankruptcy. I have been waiting for the report for so long this year that my chapter 7 was discharged. Once I receive this report, I will have to re-open the case specifically for the information on that report. That is customer abuse for sure. I am spending unnecessary money in a very tough time. I purchased the 3in1 credit report with credit score. I noticed it didn't look the same and discovered the credit bureaus are using a new scoring system. Three months ago when I checked my credit, my score was 775 out of 850 or good to very good. Now, my score was 795 out of 990 and rated the letter C for average. Nothing on my report was different from three months ago.
Then I noticed where it says pros and cons of your report. I only had cons where three months ago I had 1 con and 3 pros. Now my con was accounts not old enough same as three months ago but also my credit limits were too low. I have 20,000 in available credit and no debt and for the first time because I have no real estate loans they are reducing my score. Have they not heard that the banks aren't lending to most?
Three months ago, they were praising me for no late payments and very low debt to credit ratio and consistent use of credit cards. Now, these factors no longer are used to determine score. As stated in many of the other complaints before mine, the TrueCredit website is a maze of attempts to sell unwanted features, in fact, I was only once able to log on and find my actual credit report and then never again. It is like playing a game of Mousetrap. I must believe at this point that the business model is set up to deceive and extort.
As stated by others, no phone numbers are given for cancellation. One must navigate throughout the company to attempt to reach the correct person in order to cancel. They will tell you, you are trying to cancel the internet account, but you have the mail account and vs. versa. When you get to the point of cancellation with the potential correct offshore representative, mysteriously the connection will be lost. The person will say, "Hello?", "Hello?" over and over, pretending they can no longer hear you.
After several instances of this at different times and different phones, the truth is that this is a scam. When asked why I was cancelling, I said, "Because I have tried to cancel over 5 times with no luck." They try to convince you to stay, but all I want is out! I finally received a cancellation #, but my credit card is still being billed and I am still receiving notices when something on my credit changes 3 months after cancelling. I am so ready to contact my attorney. If they bill me one more time, consider it done. I am researching how to have this company investigated for fraudulent practices. TransUnion refused to send me a credit report, though I have lived in the same place and house since 2004 (with a name like Lavonne, how likely is it that another woman of that name would live in the same location?!). The other 2 credit agencies assisted me and very politely I might add. Now, TransUnion is still denying me access to my credit report! Okay, this information belongs to me, affects my life, yet I cannot gain access to it because they want to "play games!" My next contact is the Federal Trade Commission. When enough people complain about this company that is denying 1,000's of people access to their credit report, someone in our government agency will take notice and put an end to their shenanigans! Let's ban together to put an end to TransUnion's business tactics!

When I tried to contact them, I could not pass the security questions because they still have the wrong name. I don't have a printer at home and I thought I had 30 days to go back to the website and print it out. When I returned to the Trans Union website, it was today, July 25, 2009. It would not let me view the report. The person I spoke with said that since I originally signed up on July 23, it has been 30 days! I tried to explain to him it had not been that and I could send him the email with the date to prove it, but he did not want me to do that. So, I asked him if I could receive my credit report in the mail. He said I would have to buy one.
Funny, "my credit report" with my information on it and I have to buy it even though they were the ones who made the mistake in the first place! There should be some sort of law against this. I was refused a report because my address was not updated in their records (1st time it was listed as one from when I was 6 years old, the 2nd time none was listed, 3rd time it had a one from 2 residents prior to where I currently live.). This was a major problem because each time I requested the report, I had to send in a copy of my ID with a bill; and I was still unable to obtain a report.
The last time I called, I was still told that I had an online account (which I never setup) and that was the only I could obtain the report, but I still had to send in a copy of my ID with bill just to get that information. Here it is, 9 months later and I still have not been able to get the credit report. I finally got a customer service person to give me access to an online account that I never setup, which had an email address that I no longer had (this was explained 9 months ago) and I still can't get the report.
All the site does is give address where it can be requested, which this information could have been given out the first time I called. The consequences that I have experience is negative information on the TransUnion credit report (address and debit info), which has kept me from getting a home and a job.

Yet, every time I try to get my free report from TransUnion, they can't seem to produce it online. But if I want to pay for one, they can produce it in a hot second. If I printed something about you or made a statement about you that was not factual then there would be consequences. But not for these guys, nope. First, if you can actually talk to a person and not a recording, it's a miracle. And when you do, it's like filling out a government form in triplicate to get them to consider reviewing your complaint. If they do review your complaint, how long does it take for them to take action? Pretty much when they get around to it.
What ever happened to getting a letter of recommendation from your bank or God forbid, you actually having a savings account, showing that you have the means and ability to earn and save money. These companies have basically no responsibility for what they report about you, and worse yet, to see what they are saying they can charge you a fee to see. Isn't that like extortion? At a bare minimum, you should be able to call a real live person during normal business hours in your time zone and talk to someone who can tell you what your credit score is; tell you how that value was derived; and if there are issues, tell you how to resolve them. If the report is factual then tell the client how to contact the creditor in question. These companies, in my opinion, are the reason we have a credit crisis at this time. I would bet that they are profiting from these high loan rates that they help manufacture by their report techniques.

After talking to the representative, she told me that because I did not have a mortgage or a car loan (heavens forbid, I paid off that also), this is hurting my credit score. Is this reality?
In the face of our economic climate with record foreclosures, defaulting on credit cards and repossessed cars, I am punished because I paid my house off plus my car and I pay my credit cards? Please tell me where to go, to get an accurate picture of what a person should do. My son and I have basically the same name which can be confusing sometimes. We do have different SS#'s, different birth dates, and different middle names. When TransUnion received credit information on my son they searched their database found a similar name that had a matching address (10 years old for my son, current for me)and COMPLETELY INORING the current address and birth date differences they just changed my information which combined the credit for my son and I. Now, according to them, I have an alias. He has access to all my information and I have access to his. How inappropriate and illegal is that?
When I contacted TransUnion, their solution was that I had to dispute all the things that weren't mine and then they asked me to mail to them in the standard US mail service a copy of my Drivers License along with my complete name address and Social Security Number to PROOVE who I was. All that in an envelope through the US mail service - How stupid do they think I am? I complained up the chain of command at the TransUnion telephone customer service department, wouldn't take NO for an answer, until I finally got someone that was actually in the United States and could speak English without an extremely thick Indian accent.
The policy of TransUnion is if they find a match in their database like mine and my son's the information like birthdate will automatically update to the new information regardless of the obvious discrepancies. I was told that that is how their system works and there was no one higher that I could speak with, ARRGH! Their solution of updating the information to current was only temporarym they couldn't guarantee that the same thing would not happen again tomorrow. I was just suppose to suck it up and pay them money and check my credit constantly to see if they screwed it up again.
The ONLY way I can prevent TransUnion from changing my information is to freeze my credit. TransUnion has a system-wide global problem and I have top freeze MY credit because they can't fix their problem! Anyone else see a problem with that? If you are interested Equifax report seemed to be accurate and Experian recognized their error and addressed the problem INSTANTLY! I'm frustrated!

I spent an entire day calling all of the collectors in fear I was another victim of identity theft, but to my surprise, I came to find out I wasn't. There is another person with my exact name who's information TransUnion just stuck on my report! The creditors said they only report the debt to TransUnion. They are the ones who put the information on the report. So if I have access to this other Joshua's account numbers and local address, then it's fair to say he has access to all of my credit card numbers and address! Isn't this a violoation of the Privacy Act?
The SAME thing has happened to my girlfriend. ALL of her mothers decades of bad debt is now reported ALL over HER credit report. How negligent is it of TransUnion that without verifying the SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER, that someone having just the SAME NAME is enough reason to put confidential information on their credit report?
It's taken up so much of our time, and I have a bad feeling that once we report it ISN'T our debt, and we go through the process of sending out an accumulation of at least 100 letters (literally) that it will get taken off ONLY momentarily, because if the same name is their filtering system, what's to keep them from the reporting it BACK on our report 2-3 months from the correction? HOW ARE THEY ABLE TO GET AWAY WITH THIS? This is OUR LIVES we are talking about here.
We are now unable to apply for a housing loan, and are just now finding out that most of the information was already reported when we got a car loan, so we are just now realizing our interest rate COULD HAVE BEEN even lower.

I was introduced to ads of every credit type imaginable, things I could have googled to find, but wasn't interested to find on TransUnion. I was not able to see the individual creditors on my so-called credit report. So, after visiting the incredibly user-unfriendly site, I decided to cancel my trial and call TransUnion tomorrow, then couldn't find the option to cancel anywhere!
The web site used to be professional and usable. Now it's ridiculous. This was not a site to help consumers. It was a site set-up to sell products. If there is another site for TransUnion, please let me know! I will not go back to that one.

I had a collections against my credit show up recently, from a debt I had discharged some years ago. The number of the collections "agency", when I called to ask about this, was an individual who offered to clear my credit if I sent him a POA and $375. He did not have a file on me. When I called TransUnion to tell them that the phone number they had associated on this 'debt' did not even belong to a collections agency, I was treated to a long, rote answer that had nothing to do with the fact that they were reporting a debt that did not exist; with a number to a person who was not a collections agency. I was offered NO explanation nor offered any options for clearing up this problem.

I received this letter from Transunion at my address, but obviously they want to collect personal information from me that I do not want them to have - such as my the name of my financial institution and bank balance! Since credit agency information is used to judge consumers, it stands to reason that the agencies ought to be working and providing accurate information.
We all know they do not do this, else consumers wouldn't have to "correct" credit reports, which is done every day. The consumers do the work, and Transunion exploits them and markets their personal information. When www.listclassaction.com goes live on June 16, 2008, consumers are supposed to be able to get credit report/scores for free, since a court found that Transunion violated consumer privacy. I signed up for a 3 in 1 credit report and analysis thru an online website. They were supposed to supply me with a credit report that had all 3 credit reporting agencies in it. This was supposed to be good for 1 month and then I paid an additional $9.95 for a monthly reporting to my email. Despite my many attempts to log in to my account, I was unsuccessful. I called daily to their customer service and was told that the issue would be resolved and I could log into the account in 5-10 minutes. I tried many times, but was still unsuccessful.
On day 3 I called back and explained that I signed up for this service 3 days ago and was unable to log in. The lady then told me that she would forward the complaint to a technician who would fix the problem and that I would be able to log into the account in 24-28 hours. I felt like she was reading a prompter.
I then called my bank and requested a dispute on the initial charges of $44.90 and to block all future transactions. I also called the customer service back and requested a cancellation. The only confirmation that she would give me was her employee ID #. I have a feeling that this is a hoax and would recommend staying away from the website.
The consequence to this issue has been my time and the charge of $44.90 and possibly more charges if they try to process more on my debit card.

I signed up for the free 30-day credit monitoring service through TransUnion. At the time of setting this up, you provide a credit card for the 9.95 charges for the months after the free trial is over. This was fine, as I thought the service would benefit me in some way. After the first couple of months that I paid the 9.95, I realized that I really didn't need to continue with the service. I went to the website to find a phone number to call and cancel the service, however, I couldn't find one. I looked on my bank statement and found a number that way. The initial call took forever as you have to go through several automated prompts just to get to Customer Service. Once I finally got someone on the phone, the rep didn't even speak English well and read from a screen. Be careful..... if you ask a question that is not on their computer screen with an answer they can read off to you, they hang up the phone.
Needless to say, I was very frustrated. Once I finally got to someone that could understand and speak English well, I proceeded to tell her that I wanted to cancel the service. She said okay and asked why I wanted to cancel the service. I told her that I wasn't getting any use out of it. She went on to supply multiple reasons as to why she thought I should keep the service. I finally said Just cancel the service, I don't want it, period. She said okay and indicated that the service was cancelled. I said So I will no longer be charged 9.95 correct? She said No, there will not be a charge to your card after today. I said okay and thank you. Then to my surprise, on April 12, 2008 there was a 9.95 charge to my debit card. I called the number I previously called to ask why are they charging me for a service that was cancelled. The woman on the phone told me that the 'offline' service was not cancelled. I said that when I signed up for the service, I wasn't asked Do you want online and/or offline service?. I simply signed up for one service and cancelled the one service. She continued to read off the screen indicating that the offline service wasn't cancelled. I said that this is not my problem as a customer. This is a company process and lack of training, which I should not be responsible for.
I let them know that I contacted my bank and the credit has not gone through from TransUnion. The rep indicated that it can take 3-5 business days to credit it back. I told her this was unacceptable as the service was cancelled and there should never have been a charge to begin with. She indicated that 3-5 days is policy. I asked to speak to another manager that could tell me a specific date and time the credit would be sent to my bank. She said that I would need to talk to someone in 'upper management' as she did not have that information. Once I finally got to an 'upper managment' rep, he simply indicated that the credit could take up to 2 billing cycles to be credited back to my account. And as for the overdraft charges, I would need to provide a statement from the bank showing the 9.95 charge and the 20.00 charge associated with it. He then said to fax it to them requesting reimbursement and a brief description of the problem. During this conversation, there was no apology or any sign of concern for TransUnions bad training, bad processes, or lack of admission of wrong doing. For those of you out there thinking that the Free Credit Monitoring is a good thing, it isn't.

This is the first time I have studied the credit reporting aspect of finance. I purchased a report and score from Transunion and received a score of 865 (B). I could not imagine anyone having better credit than mine. I learned that part of the problem was that I had no real estate accounts (I own my house outright) and the other problem was that I did not have large credit limits. I do not need large credit lines! I used to be a Credit Manager, a Business consultant, and a Statistical analyst and based on the info from a phone conversation with Transunion I have concluded that the formula does not generate a determination of creditworthiness and they can't inform me how my report would be different from one who had a score of 100 above mine except to say something incredibly stupid and incriminating, It would be a hundred points more than yours. I have concluded that Transunion is guilty of fraud and slander. They can't produce anything objective and concrete to prove otherwise. I plan on being very noisy about this.

Now I have always chosen the pin number route. It has never worked since the first time. Once before it was automated, I received a pin number that was short by two digits and just recently after getting a pin number the creditor told me the pin number for them was not sufficient and required the release to be creditor specific. (not an option on the automated phone system)
Just a pain. One always has to follow up and call around to get the mess straightened out. Trans Union released my file to NCO Financial without matching my name to the information they received.
When I saw the inquiry on my file I could not believe that something so simple as matching name and address was so difficult. When I called Trans Union I was told that Trans Union will only send a credit file to a company that identified me by name, address or social security number. Not long after I made that call to Trans Union I received a letter from them that gave me a description of various items on my credit file. I also sent Trans Union proof of their mistake and they once again sent the description of item on my file letter. Trans Union refuses to acknowledge their mistake and they tell me I have to fix it. I also stated to Ron that if NCO was really looking for me why didn't I get anything in the mail from them?

All bureaus except TransUnion accepted my correct answers of provided information and let me see my reports. The maddening thing about TU is that I got to a web page on which they said I had correctly answered all questions, but they still would not let me see my report. After logging out--the only option--and going back in, and turning down the option to pay $10 to see my supposedly-free report, I ended up back at the same page that said I had answered everything correctly but logging out was now the only choice. It's especially annoying because I suspect that TU has incorrect information in its file on me.
Seven years ago I had similar maddening problems with TU. I wrote them six times in four months to try and get a correct and complete copy of my report. After about the third letter they sent me a short report that had only a fraction of the information on a report I got from them nine years before that. It took three more letters over several months to finally extract a much longer, full report from them.
This time I'm not playing games with them. Yesterday I sent a letter to the Federal Trade Commission; they oversee the credit bureaus. It's obvious from the log of complaints at this site that TU is a slovenly corporation that only complies with the law when they feel like it, get around to it, or are faced with legal action. I recommend that everyone bombard the FTC until these weasels start toeing the line like the other two bureaus. Here is the FTC's address: Commissioner, Federal Trade Commission, 600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington DC 20580. If we all take action maybe we can turn the situation around.
