Coverage is available in all 50 states and throughout Canada. Wellness coverage is only included in a separate add-on plan, but you can expect emergency coverage for accidents and illnesses, as well as treatment for eligible conditions and select rehab therapies. How does Pumpkin Pet Insurance work?

You can choose to take your pet to any veterinarian of your choice throughout the U.S. and Canada. After you pay the vet, you can submit your claim online with a photo of your vet bill and any relevant medical records.

Most insurance claims are processed within 10 to 14 days. While it may take longer, it does offer reimbursement of up to 90% after your deductible is met.

Pumpkin Pet Insurance coverage

Pumpkin Pet offers coverage for both dogs and cats at different annual coverage limits and annual deductibles. Choosing the lowest annual coverage and the highest deductible will result in the lowest per-month plan for your pet.

The company offers a 90% reimbursement rate once you have spent 100% of your insurance deductible. It offers 100% reimbursement back for preventive wellness exams for dogs or cats.

Additionally, you can add optional coverage to any plan, such as the preventive essentials package for an extra $20.95 per month. This add-on plan refunds one annual wellness exam fee, four vaccines, and one fecal test for intestinal worms.

What Pumpkin Pet Insurance does not cover

Not all vet expenses are covered through Pumpkin, including care for pre-existing illnesses or injuries. Pumpkin will not cover any elective surgeries or procedures, including spaying and neutering costs.

For example, an 8-week-old puppy in California can cost between $32 and $101 per month. On the other hand, a mixed breed, four-year-old cat in Arizona can cost between $19 and $77 per month.

I got my 8 week old corgi puppy in late August 2025. As new corgi parents we took her to the vet to get her shots and everything. Everything was great, the vet has asked us if she has ever had diarrhea or threw up, we said yes once for both within the 2 weeks we have had her. The problem came in December when she contracted Parvo, we took her to the emergency vet because she threw up and was having bloody stools, she tested Negative and said if this persists then take her back to our normal vet or them. 3 days later we took her to our normal vet and she tested Positive for Parvo. For a week our pup had bloody stools and diarrhea.

With ~2k in bills we sent the claims to Pumpkin. To my shock they denied us, on PRE-EXISTING conditions. They reasoning was: Since when we told our vet she pooped and threw up once in September, that the parvo was pre-existing. and that 180 days have not gone by (I wish I was joking, that is there honest to god reason) They blatantly ignore the fact that there's blood now and that she tested positive for Parvo. Now I have to file an appeal, go through the State insurance department, get statements from both Vets. . . They do not care about you or your pet, they only want your money.

I was recommended to try Pumpkin by our vet in Reno NV. While traveling in Montana, our pup Rosie suddenly developed food bloat and we rushed her to emergency where they treated her at a cost of $500 approx. I sent the invoice to Pumpkin and a couple of days later received a response that the claim was accepted and that the remaining balance on our deductible was $500. It was easy to make the claim, the service was prompt and courteous, the coverage was quite adequate for Rosie. I recommend you consider Pumpkin.
