I really wish your advertising people would seriously stop and think before actually putting these commercials out there that we have to listen to. I don't even have a dog. I've been a cat owner throughout my life, so the actual food product isn't what this complaint is about. Why would you choose to have the announcer say the word "butt" in your commercial rather than something that's not insulting and much more decent for us to have to listen to blaring at us all over the house? I mean, please. What happened to decency in something so seemingly innocent and endearing as a pet commercial? But of course, nowadays, everybody and every ad agency thinks it's cool to just say anything and everything - like the people who have to listen to it either agree with that or don't care. But I care and I think you should be ashamed.

I bought a bag of Pedigree large breed dog food from Walt's 3 weeks ago. Since my dog ate this crap, he began throwing up. He stopped eating altogether. He stopped drinking water also. I took him to the vet and they couldn't determine what was wrong with him. He lost a lot of weight, slept all the time and could barely walk. He passed a black mass of stool, then blood, then he died. Pedigree killed my Sumo. He was only 2 years old. RIP buddy. If anyone reads this, please tell me what I have to do to sue these **.

My dog, my best friend, who I bought in the beginning of my 8 years as a military wife, has been through 2 deployments and a loss of his daddy and my husband due to TBI. He is now 10 and has been through the worst times of my life with me. I went through his worst times last year when he spent 2 1/2 months on the vet floor without coming home, fighting for his life. Three surgeries later and almost dying from sepsis, he came home with me (after me sitting on the floor from open to close at the vet, syringing homemade pureed food to him). The only thing I could get him to eat was a Pedigree wet dog food.

Approximately May 1, I purchased a large bag of Pedigree Adult Complete Nutrition Dog Food, 20 lb. bag, proof of purchase ** at Target, scanner#231001471-2, Mars Petcare USA. I've fed my dog 2 meals from this and she immediately got sick, diarrhea, throwing up and fever! What do I have to do to get this researched to be recalled? I looked online and there are several other dogs getting sick from this. It needs to be recalled. Please help. Molly is going to the vet today. I am hoping she doesn’t get any worse!

My husband bought some Pedigree dry dog food. We have 2 dogs, a lab retriever mix and a much cocker mix. The lab is about 4 and ate the dry food right away, but the cocker was much more hesitant. He got to the point where he would just sniff it and walk away. After 2 days, our lab was no longer happy or moving around. All she would do is lie around and eat grass to try to vomit (which was yellow bile). She stopped eating and even drinking. I told my husband it had to be the food. We immediately stopped feeding them that food and bought what we have been feeding them. They both started eating like they were starving! Within hours, the lab had explosive diarrhea!

I purchased about 3 weeks ago, a large bag of Pedigree dry dog food and within 2 days, all three of my dogs got very sick. I stopped feeding immediately and switched to another brand and within a day, the dogs were well again.

I am having some financial problems, as so many are, these days. My income has dropped drastically in the last three years. I am now forced to buy less expensive food for my yorkies. I had puppies and older dogs all inside, so I mixed the puppy chow I bought with the 40 pound bag of Pedigree. In the past week, I noticed they didn't seem to be eating as much as usual and then the pups began vomiting and having diarrhea with blood (the largest pup and the biggest eater had a huge bloody stool). I immediately began treating them at home with fresh garlic, brown rice and hamburger, as advised by a vet, a long time ago, for Parvo. I personally have treated over 15 dogs over the years with vet confirmed Parvo and within a day, they begin eating on their own and within three days, they are back to normal. So, when they didn't improve and I lost three of my yorkie puppies. I was also hydrating them with a syringe. They should have gotten better, if it was Parvo or Campylobacter (sp?).

Around a month ago, I switched my dog's food from regular adult Pedigree to Pedigree nutrition. My dog seemed skeptical of the new food, but he still ate for the first 2 weeks. Then he suddenly stopped, but still begged for human food. I figured he was being picky because this new food was supposed to be "healthier.” Well, it got to the point where he wouldn't eat anything, was acting lethargic/depressed, lost a lot of weight and would throw up. He would barely even eat human food. So we took him to the vet and they did a full blood work up (after running other tests and coming up with nothing) and he found out he had a serious liver issue. They ran more tests to try to pinpoint it, but were not able to and referred us to NC State University Veterinary Hospital because our poor Chewy was getting sicker and sicker and losing weight.

My husband bought a bag of Pedigree New Healthy Weight food last weekend and within 2 days, our Lab-Rot mix began having explosive diarrhea. The second day, it contained blood and mucous. We stopped feeding the food to her and began feeding her rice and boiled chicken. Our smaller beagle continued to eat the food. Today, she vomited blood all over as well as the food from her breakfast. Our larger dog is still having diarrhea, but it is much less frequent and explosive. I took the beagle to the vet as soon as we got home and discovered the bloody vomit. We should get the results of the blood test tomorrow. This was the first time we have ever purchased Pedigree food. I am really scared now that the food may have done permanent damage. Is there something going on? My dogs got sick after eating Pedigree dry dog food. I have seen multiple posts like this in this month alone.

I have found multiple pieces of very very sharp plastic pieces in my puppies' dog food. They have been hesitant to eat it and while I was trying to mix the food up, I noticed the plastic pieces. It would have caused serious damage to my puppies! I am so not happy with this product! I am very disappointed and scared for other puppy owners that they might not find the plastic in time.

I went and bought two large packs of Pedigree dog food which more than half of them had gone off. I found the lids was not sealed properly. I have four large pedigree dogs and always found this dog food was suitable but after spending nearly $14 and only got three good tins, I'm very disappointed.

I purchased Pedigree Adult Complete Nutrition for my 2 adult dogs. Within 24 hours of their first feeding, one of my dogs began to have diarrhea. By 36 hours, she was out of control, diarrhea, puking, and then more diarrhea with blood. My other dog has not been as bad but he too, is having very loose stools since the transition. I have never purchased this brand before and, after I throw away the remaining food, I will never buy it for my dogs again. This has been the worst experience I have had with any food I have ever purchased for my dogs.

Be very careful of Pedigree dog food. Yesterday, I opened a can of their dog food and it was rancid. I mean rancid! Please, if you love your pet, beware of this product. Oh by the way, the seal was not tampered with.

After I bought a bag of Pedigree dog food 3 weeks ago, my male boxer started having violent seizures! I have never seen a dog have a seizure before and it scared the hell out of me! Since the 1st seizure, he has had back to back seizures now and it's tearing me apart to watch this healthy dog go through this! I also have a female boxer who is sick now and a corgi that is sick as well and my vet bills are getting out of control now. All of this since that big bag of Pedigree dog food. I need answers and won’t stop until I get them. I feel that I bought a tainted bag of dog food and want to get to the bottom of this ASAP!

My dog quit eating her dog food for about 10 days, so we thought we would mix some wet food with his normal food to get her to eat it. She still ate her treats and always wanted our table food. We added two table spoons of Pedigree can food and within 4 hours she was dead at the pet emergency room. What the hell is going on here?

We have tried your dog food in the can (a variety of flavors) with 2 of our family dogs and the both had seizures after they ate your brand of food. Our Sheltie has passed away about 1 and 1/2 years ago. This just happened to our 5-pound Chihuahua last night. It is very hard to watch. He is our family dog. We do not want to see this happen to any other family pet.

Our 3-year old St. Bernard has been eating the Pedigree caned dog food for only a few weeks and just in a days time, it has made this dog so sick that he can't even get up. Our vet and I are trying everything to keep this dog alive! IV fluids and stomach mess - this is costing us in the $1,000s so far. Has anyone contacted the feds in this matter? Also, does anyone know what is in this food that makes them this sick?

I am starting a lawsuit against Pedigree/Mars Petcare. If your dog has had these symptoms, please contact me. My dog is 2 years old, and up until now, he's as healthy as can be. His whole life, he has eaten Pedigree dry dog food. About a month ago, he began to not eat as much as usual, but as any house dog will, he begs when I eat, so I give him a little of mine. So I just passed it off, as if he simply didn't want his dog food anymore.

Our 8-year old choc. lab became unexplainably very ill. She started hacking and couldn’t breathe. She was vomiting and chewing on my oak staircase, eating grass, pacing around the yard and licking everything. You could tell she was very uncomfortable in her skin. I went to vet and he couldn’t pin it down to anything. After blood work, nausea meds, and $400 later, there’s still no explanation. Since the dog obviously had a throat problem, we put her on rice and tuna, chicken, and turkey diet. Guess what? She became her old self again. I gave her 1 bowl of Pedigree dog food after she was better and she instantly got sick again. This product should be pulled from the shelf and a class action suit filed to recoup damages from sick and dead animals.

I have three dogs--a Rottweiler/black Labrador (Lucas), a yellow Labrador (Jaxx) and a Chihuahua (Kika). Lucas and Jaxx have both been on the adult dry (52 lb. bag) for almost two years since getting off puppy chow. Until two weeks ago, they were the picture of perfect health. Last week, 03/23/12, Lucas started hacking and coughing like he had swallowed something and had it lodged. I thought he would cough it up and out eventually. Then, Jaxx had the same symptoms starting yesterday.

My two dogs (one golden retriever, the other a shepherd lab mix) became very ill after trying Pedigree dry dog food. They drank extreme amounts of water, passed soft stool frequently, were very lethargic, and panted continuously. I thought they were in kidney failure. After two days, I thought I would try just changing the food. I am grateful to report that my pets are recovering. Since I am on a limited income and do not have pet insurance, I could not have diagnostic testing done. I was scheduled to have my pets euthanized 1 day before they got better after taking them off the Pedigree. This food needs to be checked for possible contamination.

We have fed our dogs Pedigree wet and dry for many years and we also moved and noticed our dogs were having accidents in the house which they have never done before. Both are 70 to 80 pound dogs so we stopped using the wet, thinking it was that since they do not have a doggy door at our current residence. They are both females, one is a pure bread black lab, 11 yrs old and the other is a Rhodesian Ridge Back, she is 6.

I purchased a 625g can of Pedigree dog food. Expiration date on the can is 021414. However, when I opened the can, the top of the food contained large amounts of mold! There is obviously a problem with the canning process. I was disgusted and feel a recall is in order. Other numbers on the top of the can are BB 021414 21 1, 207EKKCD 1246BB.

My Boxer became unhealthy. He had fever first time he ate Pedigree adult dog food. Cost for the vet was $260.00.

Two weeks ago, we picked up a St. Bernard to foster while she waited for an adoptive family. The rescue gave me a bag of Pedigree dry food and several cans of Pedigree canned food. She had severe diarrhea, and the whites of her eyes were totally red. We had to return her to the rescue. We exchanged her for another Saint that had no history of medical problems and had been eating Dog Chow with his previous foster. Again, the rescue gave us a bag of Pedigree dry and 3 bags of canned food.

I purchased Little Champions in the packets to go with the Pedigree dry food for my Yorkie/Westie mix. The last box I bought was from Big Lots. When I opened the pouch, the food had nearly liquefied. The smell was so bad that I had to wash my hands 4 times to remove the stench. Needless to say, I didn't give my dog any of the food. I kept the proof of purchase label and wrote to Pedigree to complain. So far, I have had no response.

On Saturday, I gave my 8-year old Bichon Frise two Pedigree Dentastix for small dogs. Saturday night/Sunday morning, she was not feeling well. I gave her another Dentistix later on Sunday for a total of 3 over a 24-hour period. On Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, she would not get out of her bed and join the family. She would not go for a walk. When she did move, she ran low to the ground and acted very weird. She felt warm. She would not eat and took minimal water. Luckily, yesterday she started to feel better and today she is doing well and back to her normal attentive self following us around the house and eating/drinking normally. I plan to complain directly to Pedigree, tell all of my friends and family, and you to beware!

Pedigree Canned Dog Food - My dog is at the vet's right now and may not make it. He has been eating Pedigree for 2 weeks now because I stupidly switched him to this. He is diagnosed with Pancreatitis that is probably from feeding him this fatty dog food. God forgive me and please let my little friend live.

I don't know what happened but my husband and I were shocked to find all these bad reviews. We've been at wit's end the past month or so trying to determine what was making our two labs sick. We just moved into a new house and having kennel messes has not been fun! Let alone what it's been doing to our poor dogs. Our labs (one yellow, one chocolate) have been on Pedigree for years since they were both puppies (they are 4 and 7 now). Typically an issue happens when hubby forgets to pay attention to the bag and bought the large breed Pedigree dog food vs the regular adult Pedigree. But he's been very careful the past month or so and made sure to buy the regular smaller version. Our yellow lab wouldn't touch the food for about a week and only drank water. Then would drink so much water, she'd vomit. Our chocolate was having diarrhea in his kennel. Hubby hopped on the internet and you can imagine our dismay in reading all of these comments. Natural Choice is now our brand of dog food and Pedigree should be ashamed of themselves for doing this.

I have been feeding my German Shepherd and terrier Pedigree dog food for years. On two occasions, I purchased the Pedigree dry food and open the bag and my dogs refused to eat it. I figured they weren't hungry, which is never the case. They would smell it, and simply walk away. My friend convinced me that something must be wrong with the dog food (stupid me), so I returned it back to Costco. After the first experience, I switched to another type of dog food for 6-8 months, then returned to the Pedigree dog food, and things seem to be fine. After a while using the Pedigree, the same thing happened again, but they ate if for a couple of days. This time my terrier got sick and would not eat it anymore, and came down with diarrhea and bloody stool. So I immediately returned it to Costco. I feel bad that I took a chance and put savings over the health of my dogs. I will be notifying Costco tomorrow, that they should look at the consumer reports and strongly consider discontinuing the sale of the Pedigree dry food!

I have fed my dogs Pedigree dry and wet food for years and had been very satisfied. In December of 2011, my 7 year old lab started having major skin and hair issues. We had just moved into a new house and I thought maybe the problem was in the backyard. She was bathed, dipped, and had her flea meds but the problem worsened. Then, my 5 year old mixed breed started throwing up at least twice a day. He has always been an energetic, happy little dog but now he is lethargic. My lab started drinking gallons of water every day and her hair has fallen out and she has massive hot spots. She cries all the time. I have thrown out all my Pedigree food after reading all the other complaints on this site. I have sterilized their food bowls and am hoping that I caught this problem in time. Had it not been for the other postings I saw this morning, I would still be feeding my dogs this stuff. We are hoping and praying for the best at this point.

About 2 months ago we bought our normal 52-pound bag. We have an Australian shepherd and a lab/chow mix. They normally eat like pigs (especially the lab chow). They were out of small crunchy bites so I bought the next size up. They would pick at it and eventually basically refused to eat at all except the bare minimum to not starve. I thought it was the size, so we returned to the store and purchased the usual small crunchy bites. Same result. They have been on Pedigree since they were pups. It is the only food they have ever eaten and it has never been a problem. Finally becoming very concerned, we grabbed a bag of a different brand. Poor things woofed it down like they were starving, which I now realize they were. Been on the new food for 2 days now and not a speck left in the bowls. I'm so sorry I didn't realize sooner. Lab/chow also has hair loss which we just attributed to a flea allergy. I wouldn't be surprised if it starts growing back soon. There is something seriously wrong with this food! Something must be done before more pets are hurt!

Pedigree 12-pack 13.2 oz cans has caused my bullmastiff to lose weight. He has had diarrhea and has been vomiting. He has been eating this brand for about 5 months and I am hoping I can get it out of his system and it hasn't damaged his liver or other organs. He has had hotspots on and off due to the low quality of food it is as well. I am making him homemade food from now on.

I have 4 dogs, a Basenji, Dingo, Australian cattle dog and St. Bernard. I started this new bag of the "improved formula" One Lamb and Rice approx. a week ago. We thought it odd that the dogs almost instantly started to itch and were not as active as they normally were. They refuse to eat the food now and all have IBS. The Basenji is as flatulent as anything and the St. Bernard just won't eat it. He has gone from 220 to 198 in just a week. I do not recommend this food to anyone who cherishes their relationship with their pet.

My dog has just came through a horrible cancer ordeal and I had decided to give her Pedigree dry dog food. She ate it for about a week now and then she wouldn't eat it anymore, started throwing up which scared me thinking her cancer was back! Then our other dog started the same thing. She usually will eat anything. So I went on the website to see if there had been any recall and I saw all the posts. I was shocked! I went to town and bought Purina and they inhaled it! The vet said it hopefully hadn't done unrepairable damage!

Our family's 2-1/2 year old purebred Newfoundland female has been eating Pedigree kibble for two years. About 90 days ago, my son began noticing that the dog was looking thinner and that her hair was falling out. In looking online, we all found shocking information about similar complaints in other dogs, same food in common. Our dog should weigh between 90 and 115. She's down to 68 pounds, is still missing substantial hair, and was recently tested and discovered to have pretty serious concerns with her liver even though she's been off Pedigree for three months. These are the same concerns I am seeing online from others.

I purchased Pedigree Choice Cuts Beef & Liver at Walmart for my 14-year old beagle. I have been feeding him this food for over a year without incident. I opened a new can and it looked normal but within six hours, my dog had vomited and had liquid diarrhea. This continued for 24 hours before I took him to the vet for IV fluids. Two days later, he is still there and it is still touch and go. I don't know if he's going to make it or not but I attribute his condition to this food. I know it is going to cost a small fortune for his vet care and I plan to complain to Pedigree about their food, especially with all these other complaints here about the Pedigree both dry and wet food.

I have been feeding my 2-year old yellow lab Pedigree dry dog food ever since he was a puppy and have never had a problem. Last week I bought my usual 17 lbs. bag of Pedigree dry food and fed my dog after which he soon became ill while vomiting and having diarrhea. I thought he was sick with a virus yet no one could explain to me what was going on with him. After refusing to eat for three days, I thought he was going to die. I was desperate so I decided to try another brand of food, which he loved and is now recovering. I will never go back to Pedigree again. I think they need to take responsibility for what they did to our pets by refunding vet bills and other expenses.

My daughter opened a can of beef flavored ground/loaf type of food and mixed it with some bread cubes she was preparing for our two dogs. It smelled so bad it almost made both of us sick. I quickly disposed of the food. I had bought the can within the last week. I use this brand all the time. The can did not look perforated or deformed in any way. Now I am concerned about continuing to buy this brand of dog food. I have never smelled something so rancid/bad in my life. I am just glad that it smelled so bad so we didn't feed it to them. I am going to all homemade food from now on. This is just not right.

I bought a can of Meaty ground dinner- with chunky beef,bacon and cheese. I usually stick to the chicken and rice or beef and rice kinds, but, changed it up with a couple cans of this. I have 4 small dogs, all under 20lbs, whom I feed by mixing dry dog food and wet together in a bowl before transferring to their individual bowls.

I discovered a triangular piece of floor tile, approximately 1 x 1 triangle, in our dog food. It was dry food. Unfortunately, we do not have the bag to give you the lot number. I suggest you check the quality control of your product.

Fed my pet Pedigree (can). He got really sick and had most of the same symptoms as others on here are reporting. He was in vet hospital for 2 days on IV. The vet bill is nearly a $1,000. I will never ever again feed this brand to my pet. One minute my dog is just fine. By morning he was very ill. Me and my husband were in total shock of the complete change. Don't know what company to trust anymore. I thought I could trust Pedigree. By the way, how I found out it may be Pedigree food is that my cousin had just started feeding her pet same thing and hers got sick around the same time and she sent me this link. I'm so shocked to read these stories and so sad for the ones whose pets have died. I'm passing this link to everyone on FB and to the vet hospital.

I fed my English bulldog Pedigree and bought a new bag Sunday. Since then she had diarrhea and vomiting. My husband came home and found her dead. We are getting tests ran on her and the food.

I have been using little bites for over 10 years. Friday, I bought a new bag and all 3 of my terriers are very sick. Vomiting, diarrhea, and lethargy. I can't keep anything down. I took it back to the store. They gave me my money back and told me to toss it and call Vons’ corporate office. They said I am not their first complaint of this. I will never use Pedigree again. I know I am going to end up at the vet with all 3 dogs and this will be quite costly.

After using Pedigree canned and dry for years for my 7 dogs, I have had to cremate 3 of my healthy dogs in the past 29 days. I am dumping the rest of this bag and changing brands. I strongly recommend everyone do the same until Pedigree reformulates or recalls the food they have on the shelves. It is a hurtful way, too bad to loose the 4 legged family members!

I had two dogs, one wolf hybrid and one miniature schnauzer. I began feeding them both Pedigree Adult Complete, the 52-pound bag from Sam’s Club, about eight months ago. Both of my dogs are now dead from the same symptoms: lethargy, vomiting, liver damage, and finally kidney failure. The dogs died about six months apart. I thought that the wolf had been poisoned since he frequently was able to get loose from the back yard. When the schnauzer died of the same symptoms I began to look for common factors. It was the dog food, the same bag that killed the wolf eventually killed the schauzer as well. Both dogs were 3 years old.

After feeding half a can of Pedigree Choice Cuts in gravy with beef & liver to my 14 year old lab, he became very ill and started vomiting. He couldn't even keep water down. We had to take him to the vet. He was given an IV to rehydrate him, meds, and after an abdominal x-ray, it showed a blockage. He will not eat, and this has been for 5 days. He does keep water down, but has been extremely ill, since I fed him this. It has been a costly situation, not to mention, harmful to my pet. He still has not recovered. Something in this food is deadly to our animals. This needs to be investigated soon, before more animals end up seriously ill.

I recently started buying Pedigree Wet Dog for my 11-year old dog. I have found the strangest odor when opening the cans; it has a spoiled smell. I have even found rocks and big giant parts gristle. I will never buy this dog food again. Their customer service number on the side of the dog food can is 1-800-525-5273.

I fed my Pomeranian the Pedigree with chunky beef meaty ground dinner and found a tooth in the can. What are they feeding my dog? This is the last time he will be eating this brand! I tried calling customer service and found no answer on regular business days and hours. This company needs to have some accountability!

I would rate 0 stars if it were possible. I bought a big bag of Pedigree large breed dog food two weeks ago. I opened the bag and dumped it into an air tight sealed food bin in my laundry room closet where I have always stored it. We have seen little worm/caterpillar looking things in the dog's water bowl, on the walls, and so on and could not figure out where they were coming from. We pulled everything out of the laundry room, including the Sealed container of dog food. Lo and behold. the food was infested with these larvae. I'm talking a massive amount squirming around in my dog's food. We immediately took the entire container and threw it in the garbage outside, along with her food dish and water bowl.

I have fed my chihuahuas Pedigree dry and canned food mixed since they were old enough to eat. I changed to small breed dry, when they came out with it, and it worked well, until the recent changes in the ingredients of the dry food. In the last few months I've had problems with my 5 lb chihuahua throwing up a great deal, as well as not eating for a couple of days at a time.

I have four dogs and feed them all pedigree for several years now. Recently, I have had to take my dog to the vet because we noticed she kept frequently vomiting white to sometimes yellowish mucus like substance. The vets found nothing and recommended we change her food. After while, we noticed the other three dogs had the same reaction to the food as well. There has to have been an obvious change in the manufacturing of the food. They all immediately stopped throwing up after we changed their food gradually. I'm truly upset that these dogs entrusted us and we were not informed enough to know how this could have even been allowed on the shelves at Costco.

I have fed my two Boxers dry and canned food for years as well as the third pair of Boxers with no problems. In September 2011, the male began throwing up a white mucus filled vomit and quit eating. I took him to the veterinarian for test. After $800, absolutely nothing was found. The veterinarian said to feed him with canned only and the vomiting stopped. I started dry and wet again then both dogs started vomiting. This was on a new bag of Pedigree. I have changed to Purina One dry and finishing up with Pedigree canned and will change to Alpo for canned. It appears that the latest ingredient change made by Pedigree wasn't for the better or they have put out some really bad batches of dry food. In any case, I'll not be back and the balance of dry food left is garbage bound.

While feeding my 3 dogs this morning, about a dozen pieces of plastic like things were seen and removed from the dish. I have saved the pieces and would like to have you identify what they are! I am concerned that they have eaten some of this in the past now that it has been discovered. It is the same color as the food and was just by luck it was found. I have recently had a very sick small dog. I am now thinking it could be caused by more of whatever this is she could have ingested. I’m not a happy customer.

We have been buying Pedigree dog food for our three dogs every three weeks. Just recently we have noticed a change in bag size. The original bag was a 52-pound bag at $21.23; the new bag is a 32-pound bag at $21.23. This is clearly unacceptable as a consumer. After 20 years of buying your product, I feel very deceived. I guess the end result will have to be, that we will be looking for a new food for our dogs.

I opened a new bag of food and it had bugs. Not just one or two bugs, but it was infested with bugs. Also, it looked like some of the nuggets had mold on them. Petsmart did replace the bag, but I am very hesitant to buy this product again.

I have a 6-year-old peke-a-poo, which I bought as a puppy for my elderly Mom who I cared for until she past away 3 years ago from ovarian cancer. We lived together, so when she passed, the dog was left to me. He means the world to me, as now I am alone with him. My dog ate Pedigree moist dog food and the dry for small dog food.

Wow, after reading these many complaints, it's become clear to me that Pedigree is a problem in our household also. We have three dogs, ages 13, 9 and 7. The middle dog and the smallest one have gotten ill for the past many months. The common factor is Pedigree wet and dry. Diarrhea, white spit up, the little one has stopped eating at all and lost weight. She will eat out of desperation at times but basically she turns her little nose up. I'm attempting to change her diet and will also do so for the other two dogs. If Pedigree is killing our pets, we need to make them stop!

I have been trying to locate Pedigree Small Breed dog food in Henderson, NV and Las Vegas, NV. Petco, Walmart, Smiths, and PetSmart no longer stock this food. My two dogs are healthy and enjoy this food. I've used Pedigree for my dogs for the last 20 years and prefer the Small Breed dog food. Why are you no longer stocking it?

We have been feeding our dogs over the past 10 years with Pedigree dry food. Just recently, I noticed when feeding our great dane/Rottweiler, the food looked moldy. It had white and green on it. I was so disgusted and worried how long did we feed her this without noticing. Luckily, she has not been sick, but I will not purchase pedigree anymore.

We have been feeding our 2 adult labs dry food with 3 tablespoons of Pedigree Wet Choice Cuts food purchased from Costco mixed in with the dry. Both Labradors got sick with bloody diarrhea and vomiting. All their blood work has come back okay. It seems that the Pedigree canned chicken is worse than the beef. I don’t know if it is old or what the issue is. But my babies are too important to us to put them through this or risk losing them. Their diet will definitely now be changed!

I purchased the Dentastix for my 8-pound shorkie tzu and after eating the one stick given to him, he began to vomit and have diarrhea. He was lethargic and refused to drink. Due to the offices being closed on the week ends, I called on October 24 and told them about the incident regarding their product and that the rubber band had a what appeared to be a UPC code in addition to the writing, product of Peru.

My dog nearly died from eating canned Pedigree. I started feeding my 4 month old puppy canned Pedigree and noticed that he was having diarrhea. I continued to feed him the cans for about two months (along with dry food) but the diarrhea would not subside. I later tried feeding him only dry food but still could not get the diarrhea to stop. By the time the dog was 7 months old, I was seeing blood and mucous mixed in with his feces. I took several fecal samples to the vet and they tested it for parasites, etc., but the results were negative.

I have fed my dogs canned Pedigree food for years (at least 10). I buy the Weight Maintenance type. I've noticed that the "meat" weight maintenance food smells weird, and it contains lots of what seems to be bits of veins, stomach lining, etc. It's disgusting. So far the chicken kind seems OK.

I have been feeding my Black Lab Pedigree dry food for about one year. I am on a very limited budget and buy his food at the first of every month. I buy one 15lbs and one smaller bag. When I opened the large bag and put it down for him, he would not touch it no matter how hard I tried to get him to eat from that bag he would not. So on the 3rd day of not eating, I opened the smaller bag. The same thing happened, he refused to eat! By this time, I was getting very worried. Zuse is not just a pet. Since my husband died 2 years ago, my Lab has become my best friend and I love him dearly!

I purchased a large bag of Pedigree dry dog food on a Saturday and by the following Monday, I had to rush my American bulldog to the emergency vet. When she started vomiting heavy amounts of blood, she had an abdominal radiography as well as blood test to see if she had an infection. All came back to normal. Once I took her home and changed back to her regular dog food, she showed a major improvement. She had lost a lot of body weight, hair, and still breaths heavy but she's now showing new hair growth. If this product was not allowed for sale, it would never have happened to my Sarah and so many other beloved family pets.

I have fed my dog Pedigree Complete Nutrition since he was a puppy. After that last "new and improved" formula came out, he began to vomit and diarrhea. I purchased some dog treats for my 3-yr old, male Lhaso Apso a couple months ago. They were Pedigree Good Bites oral care treats. Well, I didn't give them to him everyday and he didn't seem to like them very much. He started acting funny. Laying in his bed a couple of times over the last two months for no reason only he wouldn't move around very much. Then I noticed 3 to 4 weeks back and stopped jumping all together. Wouldn't jump on the couch or any of the beds which was a daily routine for him. I checked to see if he was hurt feeling his back legs and pressing the muscles but he didn't flinch or whine. But still no improvement. I kept thinking what could have caused this. I basically eliminated everything but these treats. So about 8 to 10 days ago I stopped the treats. Their was no improvement until 2 days ago.

I have a 14-year old Jack Russell that was losing weight, getting lethargic, passing out bloody stool, and frequently vomiting. He was eating the Pedigree dry dog food with the Jack Russell picture on the bag. I switched to Iams dry dog food three weeks ago and he is back to his normal weight and health. My 11-year old German/Australian mix shepherd had been eating adult dry Pedigree for years. In one week she became weak, lethargic, and would not eat. I took her to the vet and all blood work came back normal. She continued to drink large amounts of water, but was not incontinent of urine and had to be lifted to get her outside. I started feeding her canned food which she ate, but the incontinence and lethargy with weakness continued. I ended up putting her down. No mention was made to me from the vet regarding food or possible poisoning. I just heard a brief mention of Pedigree brand dog food being recalled on the local news. My dog’s illness was on the last week in June and first week in July. I heard the news August 8. This caused out of pocket expenses for blood work and ultimate euthanasia of my dog.

I started a new bag of Pedigree Adult chunk food on about June 8th 2010. My 8-year-old Weimaraner started getting classic signs of poisoning, bloody stool, slight fever, bloating, and she died within about eight days. Do not use! Pedigree is covering up a huge problem.

I bought a large can (22 oz) of Pedigree Chunky Beef with Bacon and Cheese Meaty Ground Dinner to mix with my two elderly dogs' dry food. Normally, I make chicken for them to mix in but I was out of that. I only gave them a quarter can a piece, but they have been sick with diarrhea since the following morning after eating it. One of my dogs has been vomiting as well.

I purchased a 44lb bag of the small crunchy bits. The same I have been buying for 18 years now. I pour the bag of food into an air tight container. Towards the bottom of the container I noticed what looked like asphalt. It turned out to be hard moldy dog food chunks. I called Pedigree. They did not only explain to me how it could happen (at the facility where it was made) but sent me out coupons for a free 44lb bag of food and $5.00 off coupons for further purchases. I told the manager at the store I purchased the moldy food at and he replaced the bag free of charge. I have been feeding my large and small breed dogs this food for over 18 years. Never have they had digestive problems. My suggestion is switch to Pedigree.

My dogs have been eating pedigree for years. Four days ago, the two of them became ill, vomiting and diarrhea. June 3, 2010, I purchased one 32 lb. bag of Pedigree New Tastier Wholesome Recipe (adult dog, small crunchy bites, best by 03 07 11 22 2; 010A2KKMO7 01:27) and one Pedigree New Tastier Wholesome Recipe (large breed, large crunchy bites; best by 02 12 11 22 1; 006F1KKMO8 17:26). My dogs refused food of any kind for 4 consecutive days after eating the above mentioned Pedigree dog food for 5 consecutive days. Initial symptoms were: refusal to eat, frequent vomiting, low intake of water, foul yellowish-brown and mucoid diarrhea to putrid dark brown and tarry diarrhea, lethargy, dry nose, dull coat, blood-shot eyes and dry mouth.

My 13-year old dog has eaten Pedigree Small Crunchy Bites for several years. 2 weeks ago, I purchased a bag which was not marked as being a new formula, but evidently is. My dog has had the runs, waking me up several times a night since the new bag was opened last weekend. Ruined carpets, lack of sleep, money wasted in the purchase of Pedigree and a replacement brand which may or may not help. She is too old to deal with this issue, all because a company decides to try and improve their brand.

In March, I purchased a 40-lb. bag of Pedigree small crunchy bites dog food. I have a blue heeler and a black lab mix. Both dogs began vomiting and had diarrhea. They also stopped eating and lost a considerable amount of weight within two weeks. They also had a very strong odor coming from their mouths that smelled similar to the diarrhea. The vet took stool samples and did blood tests. All he found was bacteria in their stomachs that was in excess and of a different type than what he expected to see. They would eat boiled chicken, rice and pasta. He put them on injectable antibiotics for 10 days. There was some improvement with the antibiotics and boiled chicken, rice and pasta. 7 weeks later, they are eating canned dog food if it is chunky. There is no dry food and they are putting a little weight back on. If your dog is going through this, try the boiled food to keep them going asap. Don't wait until they stop eating completely. Get them to a vet quick. Others in this area are having the same problem. The food was purchased at WalMart. Calls to the dog food company went unreturned.

We purchased a German Shepherd puppy and a lab puppy back in March of this year. Since that time, the lab has been sick with vomiting and diarrhea and our German Shepherd just recently passed away after being sick with vomiting and diarrhea. We purchased another German Shepherd, only to have her now vomiting and diarrhea. The only thing these dogs have in common is the Pedigree puppy food. We have bleached the pen, dog house, feed and water bowls and still they are getting sick. We paid very good money for these dogs only to have them get sick from their dog food. Why is there not a recall after all of these complaints?

I purchased a 40-lb bag of small crunchy bites of Pedigree dog food for my 10-year-old rat terrier. He ate it for a couple of days then vomited it all up. Maybe he ate too fast or too much. A couple of days later, he vomited in my bed twice that night. The next morning, he ate his food; and again in the house, he was vomiting! My son's dog came over and had some of the same food; he vomited in the car before he got home. And the dog doesn't get car-sick. No more Pedigree dog food for my dogs ever!

My 2 year old Boxer has been on Pedigree canned dog food for a year without any problem until April when she suddenly started vomiting and had extreme diarrhea. I took her off the canned food until she got better and then tried it again. She immediately got ill again. She does fine on other foods.

I have been feeding my lab and mastiff pedigree large breed dog food for their entire lives. They are both 10 years old. Suddenly, both dogs have diarrhea and are vomiting. They do not get along so they are never together. They have nothing in common except their dog food. I am most concerned for them and am thankful that I found this site. However, I do not believe I will be feeding her Pedigree canned food anymore. I opened a brand new can tonight and put it in her bowl. I usually break up the food before giving it to her, and as I was breaking it up, I started noticing that there was movement in her bowl. We have been loyal customers of Pedigree dog food since rescuing our Staffordshire Pit. Noticeably in the last two months, which is normally one 20# bag/month, he simply refuses to eat it. Each time he does eat it, within 30-45 minutes he is vomiting and diarrhea.

I have a 9-year old golden and 3-year old Lhasa. I have never fed them anything else but Pedigree canned dog food in the a.m. and p.m. For the last two months, they have both been vomiting and diarrhea off and on. We have been loyal Pedigree Dog food consumers for many years with no problems until recently this past year. We have a 2 year old Yorkshire terrier and a 3 year old AKC Boxer who had a litter of pups in late 2009. The pups were all healthy and checked by a vet. The pups grew fast. We decided to keep two of the female Boxers simply because they were inseparable, and we also felt attached since we have a soft spot for animals. Once they were big enough, we switched them to Pedigree. Shortly after, they both begun to vomit; one vomited uncontrollably until she vomited blood and before we knew what was happening, she died in our arms.

I've been feeding my dog/ dogs this product over the years(since the 80's) and never had a problem, but all of a sudden I buy of course a jumbo bag from Costco and my chocolate lab won't eat it. Pedigree foods are rated "one star", simply because there is nothing lower. Please read labels and understand what the ingredients are! We have the power to make a change!

My yellow lab as been diagnosed with a kidney disease and has a short time to live. Right now at the age 12, she is dying. The vet said it's too late to change dog foods now. So what did she really mean by that statement? It most likely means that the damage has already been done, feeding my lab Pedigree. She is still alive and good using dialysis. Is the pet food company willing to pay for this and any other vet bills to try to turn things around?

This just happened so I haven't spoken to anyone at Pedigree yet, but after reading these stories, I'm not expecting much. I feed my two dogs (a yorkie and a miniature poodle) Pedigree canned food everyday and I haven't had any issues with it until this week. I bought the 12-pack and each dog gets a half a can a day. So I purchased the food nine days ago. This morning, when I went to feed them, I found that the remaining three cans of food were completely moldy when I opened them. I have sent an email to Pedigree to let them know. I don't know if this is their fault or the store I bought them from (Walmart), but it was disgusting and I'm not sure if I want to continue feeding them Pedigree after reading all of these problems.

I have fed Pedigree dog food to my dogs forever and never had a problem. I fed my mini pin dog the food for the last ten years since she was a puppy which made her 10 years old. I have been feeding Pedigree canned dog food for 5 years to my Siberian Huskies. I haven't experienced anything like described in the previous complaints. My dogs receive one full can a day (large can). I think people are trying to find a reason for their dogs' death and this is the easiest thing to blame. I own a kennel and breed these dogs. I have had no problem. I think you should look elsewhere for an explanation.

After reading all of the stories from people who have lost their dogs while they were using Pedigree dog foods, I had to write. From November 2007 to August 2008, my healthy 5-year-old boxer experienced three separate episodes of diarrhea, not being able to keep any food or water down, and lethargy for 5-plus days at a time. The vet diagnosed chronic kidney disease. Each time, she got sick she had been eating Pedigree dry and canned foods. When she got sick and refused to eat, I would buy another brand of food and eventually, after losing a lot of weight from not being able to keep anything down for a week at a time, she would begin to eat again. I have not fed my dog Pedigree for almost one year and she has not been sick during this time. After reading all of these testimonials, I will never purchase Pedigree dog food again. I can only hope that others using Pedigree see these related stories before it is too late for their dogs.

We lost two beautiful female boxers recently in the exact same violent, sad way after they consumed Pedigree moist canned dog food. Our oldest, Dixie, had been on the moist food for several months until I purchased her last batch from Wal-Mart. Dixie began having what looked like dizzy spells which turned into constant exhaustion. She then stopped eating and consumed huge amounts of water. Within a day, Dixie lost complete control of her bladder, passing blood. We sought help from our vet early on and were waiting on the results when we noticed that Dixie went yellow in her eyes, skin, and lips and went into distress. We had to put her down that night.

After reading these articles on how people's dogs were dying from kidney failure and all sorts of other things, it comes to the conclusion as to this is how my sweet puppy Zeus got really sick. About a month ago, we decided to switch Zeus over to Pedigree, and then on June 12th we noticed he became very sick. He could barely breathe, walk, or wouldn't eat anything. So, by Monday we took him to the vet and they did a bunch of tests on Zeus to see what was wrong, they concluded he had some sort of kidney failure. We were all so heart broken, how could Zeus go from being a perfectly healthy dog who was full of energy, to being very sick. My reasoning tells me it's this food! I was determined to find out how my little puppy Zeus, who was six years old, died. After my mom had read these articles as well, she knew this was exactly why. If we would have known this sooner, Zeus, to this day would still be with us. He was such a wonderful puppy who will be missed. I hope all of you who read this are touched in some way and don't have to go through what we did.

In February 2009, we switched our dogs from Nutro dry dog food to Pedigree dry. It was less expensive and my husband was swayed by Pedigree's warm and fuzzy TV ads. Within 48 hours, all five of dogs developed severe diarrhea. After two more days of trying to feed them Pedigree, four of my five dogs went on a hunger strike and refused to eat! One of my dogs was very ill and had to be taken to our Vet. He could not find anything abnormal in her fecal test but treated her for 10 days with Endosorb. She lost weight from the severe diarrhea. She still has not regained any (3 months later), although the diarrhea is all gone.

I received an email this morning from my sister regarding Pedigree dog food. That email linked me to this Consumer Affairs site and I am horrified at what I have found! On May 4th, 2009, my 1 1/2 years old Siberian Husky, Juno, was diagnosed with kidney failure. She was young, sweet and full of life. She was absolutely fine one day and two days later, I was being told I had to put her to sleep. Since this came as a huge surprise (and I love my dogs as if they were my kids), I have been completely devastated by the whole experience. She was so very young. I just couldn't believe it. I still cant!

I purchased several cans of Pedigree Chopped Beef dog food from Walmart in Savannah, GA. The can numbers were 840CCKKCCO 0606CB with the expiration date of 10/2010. We lost two dogs in a matter of three days due to some problem with their food which is the only thing they had in common. I had my dog named Moca since 1996 which I had to take to the vet on Friday, October 31, 2008, because his hind legs could not hold him up. They saw his kidneys had stopped working and decided it was best to put him down. Then we noticed our Pedro which we had for 10 years started acting funny. We thought he was just depressed since Moca did not come back home.

I fed my dogs Pedigree Puppy Chicken & Beef Dinner wet food Lot # 1106936 (4 cans of a 6-pack) that I bought at Target in Bozeman, MT. My dogs were extremely sick, feverish, and lethargic with extreme diarrhea for almost 2 weeks.

The dog food is being sold under weight per bag. I have noticed the difference from 40 lb. to under 30 lb. for the last several bags I bought at Kmart Webster, Mass. Are they selling half bag for full bags?

My 5-year-old dog abruptly died from Kidney failure. She was vibrant and energetic one week and lethargic and had lack of appetite the next. We took her to the Vet and she was found to have Kidney Failure. We had to put her down because she was suffering. I searched the internet and found out that the food that I give my dog (Pedigree dry & wet) could have been the cause of her death. She was the best pet we have ever had and she brought joy into our lives every single day and she will be missed. We don't want anyone else to have to go through what we experienced. Our home is so sad from the loss of what we considered a family member. We feel as though we lost a child and it has saddened our home so deeply. We want to keep this from happening to anybody else. We would like to become a part of a class action lawsuit and possibly getting the cost of the Vet bills refunded.

I purchased at Sam's Club and Raley's Yuba City, CA, Holiday Market in Penn Valley, California. I am uncertain regarding the exact bag or bags of dog food that could have contributed. Some of the dogs consuming Pedigree Brand Dog Food have gotten sick or dogs that have (unfortunately puppies do this) eaten poop from these dogs have tested positive for Clostridium Perfringens and one dog - who was not in the treatment group for the above - has now developed Pancreatitis. Pancreatitis is usually associated with dogs that have been given table scraps or treats or high fatty meat supplements - this dog has received none of these.

My small dog became ill with vomiting and diarrhea and has been diagnosed with acute pancreatitis. Currently, he is hospitalized, on IV fluids with current hospital bill estimated at nearly $1000. He is 15 months old, and has been eating Pedigree Small Crunchy Bites (small bags, 5-7 lb., bought in NJ at ShopRite) since 6 months of age. He is a house dog, and the dog food is the possible cause of acute pancreatitis. His story is so similar to others posted on this website. I have always given Pedigree to my older dog (who died at 15 years of age in 1998), so I thought this was the best pet food to use. I no longer think so. I am very concerned re lack of action or further investigation by Pedigree (Mars Company).

On 1/13/2009, I opened a can of Pedigree Chopped Beef dog food, 13.2 oz. can purchased from Walmart and found in the can foreign material that looked to be plastic wrapping material. The information printed on the can was as follows: Best used before 12/2010 with a production code of 851FCKKCF0 2056CB. I have retained the can and the foreign material. Finding this foreign material in this can of Pedigree Dog Food was so alarming that I immediately decided to not feed my pets this food. I currently have on hand 43 cans of Pedigree 22 oz. canned dog food, 16 cans of Pedigree 13.2 oz. canned dog food, 5 bags of Pedigree MarroBones and 48 tubs of Little Cesars Dog food, all products made by MARS. I appreciate your input and evaluation of the unfortunate situation I have found myself in.

Within two months time (9/26/08-11/26/08), both of our dogs died from kidney failure. They were Miniature American Eskimos and their names were Peanut and Baby. Our first pup, Baby, wasn't even 5 years old when he suddenly became very sick. He stopped eating and was vomiting any time he even drank water. We brought him to the vet and they said his kidneys were failing and there was nothing they could do. He was suffering so we put him down. The same week he became sick, there was a recall on the dog food we fed him. I called Pedigree and even though we had the exact brand and type of food they recalled, they told us that the numbers did not match and that the food was fine.

Purchased Pedigree dry dog food from BJ. My dog was sick, throwing up, diarrhea and broke out with some kind of red hot spots. The company contacted me to advise me to seal in plastic bag and throw away the remainder of the food 2 1/2 months after the purchase of the bag. MESSED UP SOME FLOORING AND MOLDING IN THE APARTMENT I RENT. THANK GOD MY DOG LIVED.
