I wanted to see if my dogs would like a change and to be able to feed them something better than the other foods I've fed them. I also wanted to see how their stomachs did with the new dog food. I read and enjoyed the ingredients and Nutro Grain Free Dog Food was more natural and didn't have as many bad things in it as other dog food that I have tried before. However, the price seemed way too expensive and didn't have a lot of great overall reviews so I was a little nervous about the new dog food not being as great.

I had originally been unsure if I would go with Nutro or Blue Buffalo. My veterinarian gave me a sample bag and after 1 week I noticed such a difference in my dog's energy level that I decided to buy it. I like knowing my dog is getting authentic ingredients without grain fillers. With this food my dog has more energy, he's not laying around and a beautiful shiny soft coat. However, I do wish the price was a bit lower. I get that this is a premium item but as a single mom and pet owner I need the product that's affordable and nutritious.

I had a coupon that made the bag free and my dog loved the Nutro High Protein-Grain Free so we continued to buy it for him and he seems to be doing very well on it since then. His coat and body seem to be very healthy. I like that it had a lot of ingredients that I could read on the label and clearly showed what was in the food. There were also pictures of the ingredients on the bag. However, the only thing that I didn't like was the sort of bland colors that were on the packages. I wish that more flavors came in the bigger bags so that I wouldn't have to buy a bunch of smaller bags to please my dog.

The reason I decided to choose to buy Nutro dog food is because I seen that the pet stores were using it to feed animals that they have there before selling them and they told me that it was probably the best choice and dog food that I could make so I decided to get it and they were right. It is natural and a very healthy choice for my dog. It must taste good because he really likes it and it's at a reasonable price. However, it can get a little expensive if your animal doesn't like the flavor of it and I myself haven't ran into that issue but a friend of mine has so. I would suggest making sure they sell it in smaller sizes so people can make sure their animal likes it first.

Nutro is organic. Nutro has been the highest quality product for dog nutrition consistently in my experience. I pet sit and would recommend it to my clients for their dogs. Purchased through Chewy.com - as with other reviews my 11 year old black lab has been eating this food (original formula) for years and never had a problem. My brother dog Sat her on Friday and within 5 minutes after feeding her, she vomited all up immediately. I thought maybe she was just nervous not being home so a while later he fed her some toast which she kept down. As soon as he fed her this food for dinner she vomited again. The next morning foam and bile.
I racked my brain - what could it be?? And then realized that the only thing different was that it was a new bag so I decided to Google it and found these reviews. I had him stop the food immediately and he fed her Blue Buffalo grain free food that his dogs eat and she has been perfect since. If my dog had been a smaller size I'm sure it would have been much more serious.
I have been feeding my two dogs this food for 7 years since they were puppies. The last bag purchased was last weekend and I used this food as of Tuesday, Sept. 20th 2016. It was purchased at Petco in Marysville Washington. The dogs became lethargic and immediately started throwing up yellow bile. They had diarrhea and now one of them has constipation. I am taking them to the vet today and feeding them chicken and rice that I am making myself. I called a friend who advised me about this dog food and the information that has been posted currently. This product is not what it once was. Its quality has been compromised. Please do something about this before others lose their precious pets.

I received a free sample of Nutro High Endurance at the pet store for my dog to try and he loved it so I continued to purchase the brand. His coat stays shiny and he barely sheds now. I like that it has all natural ingredients. It gives them lots of energy to be able to play and it's not high in sugar. It also doesn't have a lot of filler instead of nutrition. It's a great food for your dog. It cost a little but more than some brands but you do get what you pay for.

The dog liked Lite & Weight Management. He had less gas (one wants to be in the same room with the dog) and I experimented with several other high-end brands. It seems to work well with him. I prefer dry dog food. It comes in sizes that this old lady can carry, it provides the nutrients that the dog needs, the vet approves of the quality. Maybe more variety for my picky older dog. Pricing is better for larger sacks but they are now too heavy for me to handle. Yes it met my expectations.

I heard good things about Nutro Original formula dog food and it was recommended by several other dog owners that I know. I decided to give it a try and sure enough, my dogs loved it. I also like that it is a high quality brand and at a reasonable price. I wish maybe that I would be able to find it in my local grocery store instead of having to make a special trip to a pet store.

My Chihuahua was rescued from a shelter. She was shedding a lot, I changed her food to Nutro Toy Breed Adult. It is small kibble and fits her mouth. Since she is now about 6 pounds +/- , I feed according to their guidelines. She now has minimal shed, & the vets say she is healthy. To be honest, she also gets treats & small bits of scrambled eggs & some boiled hamburger or boiled chicken at breakfast.

I was intrigued by the packaging of the Nutro grain free dog food and the health claims for the product. I wanted to switch my dogs to a healthier product that didn't have several recalls. However my dogs were uninterested in it. I also disliked the dog food due to cost. It was very pricey compared to other choices and my dogs did not want to eat it. I would improve the overall taste of the food without losing the health aspect. I would not purchase the food again unless the taste factor changed but I would be willing to try again.

As my dog gets older I have discovered how important grain-free dog food is and I have tried other higher-end dog foods but my dog seems to prefer the texture and flavor offered by Nutro Dog Food. I found a site thru Google which does comparisons on all available dry dog foods. The dog foods are evaluated based on content, percentage of protein and if it has filler or not and Nutro was given a very high rating.

I like the overall quality of the NUTRO High Protein Grain Free Dog Food. It is high in nutrients and my dog seems to love it and thinks it tastes really good. It's really not that expensive either. Good value. I think that it is perfect just the way that it is. Don't change anything. It surpasses a lot of other name brands on the market today in terms of taste and overall quality and definitely combines all of that at the best price.

My dogs love Nutro and always finish every scrap, and always seem to appreciate it more than the other dry foods in my 'rotation'. I buy the food (original formula) twice as often as any other brand, but my initial purchase was just to try it. I always rotate brands but seem to come back to Nutro more often than others. Keeps my quadruped friends healthy and happy! However, it might be nice to vary the size of the kibble in each bag, but not the color, as only humans could tell about that.

I initially chose this brand because it looked extremely appealing in the ads placed around the store. I also saw a television advertisement that made me feel this way about Nutro dog food. Like the texture and ingredients, this product has a great consistency and my dog seems to enjoy it the most of all the brands I have purchased thus far. It has way more positives than other brands of dog foods that are available in stores.

Wild Frontier - The benefits that come with the product to improve the animal's health and maintain their longevity. That you can also for the most part find food tailored to meet your dog's health needs. Offering snack treats as well as making it affordable to purchase so anyone can afford to purchase this product for their dogs. Also maybe including it in some of the chew toys as a flavor option that they dogs would enjoy. Our pets seem to enjoy the flavor options that are offered and we also had found a discount so we could afford to purchase this brand of pet food for our dogs. As we are a low-income family anytime we can get nutritious food for our pets at a good price.

Wild Frontier - The person I bought my dog from had started him on Nutro Dog Food so I continued that. My dog liked Nutro and it had good solid ingredients in it. They had many flavors to try which was nice since I could buy a couple different bags and split them for each bowl so my dog enjoyed it even more. However, it still was not as healthy as many other alternatives for my dog especially so I ended up switching. I want the best for my dog to make sure he remains healthy and lives a long, good life. I would improve on having all natural ingredients and making more of a high-quality line.

Nutro brand came highly recommended to me from several dog owners I have encountered. They spoke highly of the quality, but equally important was that their dogs actually ate the food and never had any stomach upsets or adverse reactions to it. I love that the product contains real vegetables from a farm. The nutrients and oils contained in this product are high quality and I feel very confident feeding my dog this. Whole grains are excellent for the digestion, and the meat added the flavor my dog looks for. I use the dry food, and sometimes my dog has trouble chewing it. The pieces are quite crunchy, I usually have to soak them with a bit of water to help soften them up for her. I would maybe suggest a more chewy version of the kibble.

Nutro Dog Food is healthy for my dog and it is supposed to give him energy to run and play. It has been great for him so far and he loves the taste so that's even better. I love that it is healthy for my dog. I especially like that it is made with all natural ingredients to give my dog strength and energy. He is a part of our family and we want what is best for him. I dislike the fact that there aren't many flavors to choose from in the high endurance line. I want there to be a large variety of flavors, but I guess I can just choose a different line of product.

Nutro Dog Food has no grain, meat is the key ingredient. It's supposed to be a more natural choice and easier to digest. However, it doesn't smell very good, actually it smells rather stale and moldy. I've bought 5 bags and they all smell funny, and my dog isn't very fond of it. But, my dog's digestion does seem better, though I don't think I will buy more. So I'm currently looking at other options.

The High Protein-Grain Free dog food has met my initial expectations and is slightly better. I chose it partly for the ingredients and partly for the price, and I am satisfied overall that it's not harmful to my dog. It smells good, it has high protein, no grains which can be harmful to my dog like corn and there are lots of good nutrients included. However, I don't like the artificial colors, even the natural looking colors like dark brown or reddish, and I wish it came in more meaty flavors.

I chose this brand because it is the best bang for my buck and normally I have a coupon to get the dog food, but I also trust feeding this to my dog. I like that it is better for my dog in general, there are no mystery ingredients and I know what I am feeding my dog is healthy. I wish they would make all the dog food one color and not a bunch of different colors. That makes me feel that it's part artificial and not full of crap like most other stuff that's in food for dogs... but really the best food for animals is human food. That way I know exactly what is going into my pet's mouth and not wondering.

I buy the Nutro dog food original formula because it’s got hormone-free, also with natural ingredients and my dogs love the taste. Love the way my dogs chew with this passion. I think they thank me for this product being at my home. Improve the bag. It’s so heavy and seems to be wimpy and if I go to the supermarket or any other store like a pet store and get rain the bag seems to break and the product to fail in its taste, so it will need another type of bag. The meat needs to be more ground since my dog also choke several times. The price is excellent. Also the food convinced me it’s the best for my dog and I always gets the best products for my pets. The vegetables and meat union are one of the best and I know the Nutro dog brand is recommended by veterinarian.

This lead me to believe this is the brand for me to continue purchasing. Very happy with my purchase and decision to switch. Price is a little much but the quality outweighs the price. I read reviews that this was a very good food to feed your dog and it came in a big bag specific for large breed dogs. There is nothing that I really disliked except that you have to go to certain stores to buy it since it is not available everywhere. The price was pretty good. I was very happy with it until the price raised to the point I didn't purchase it anymore. I would buy ultra large breed again if the price went down.

I had a lot of issues with vomiting and bad bowel movements with the cheaper foods. We needed something that was healthier and that didn't go right through her. She was so skinny no matter how much she ate before and now she is healthy and full of muscle. All of my expectations have been met with Nutro High Endurance and beyond. I like that it is for dogs that are on the go a lot. The natural ingredients and the choices of flavors are great too. We never have problems with vomiting like we do with some other dog foods. Since our dog is very picky with her food, I'm always looking for variety of food that she can try. I've read good reviews online about this Nutro Dog Food, so I decided to purchase the original formula. And good enough my dog liked this food. There were other brands that I tried on her that gave her soft stool, but with Nutro she did not have any problems. So I believe Nutro is keeping her healthy. What I like about the it is that it uses real chicken and has natural ingredients. I also like it is formulated especially with DHA which is essential for a healthy growth.

Nutro dog food is better than most cheap dog foods in quality and price. And also almost as good as most of the expensive dog foods. Their food is organic and healthy for the dogs which is perfect. It keeps the teeth healthy and it is available in most of the stores so it is easy to buy. They have a lot of different varieties of dog foods. Dogs find them tastier as well and they finish the whole food once they start eating it. I like feeding my dog healthy food, prepared dry food that contains all the nutrients that my dog needs. Farm's Harvest keeps the dog's teeth clean. It's an all-natural dog food that contains more protein and less filler.
Wet dog food can lead to increased tooth decay. The quantity of the dog food is quite low and a little more would be perfect considering the price and the quality. It's not as good as Pedigree dog food but still good enough. The meat content in Nutro Dog Food is not high enough. It's near-average protein, near-average fat and near-average carbs when compared to typical dry dog food. When we consider the protein-boosting effect of the pea protein, this looks like the profile of a kibble containing a moderate amount of meat. The brand is a 3.5 stars dog food brand which is not quite good.

A representative in the store recommended Nutro. I read the package and it was an easy to read package so you could see the percentages of ingredients. It seemed to have quality ingredients although it was not grain free. It was healthy and seemed to have a good percentage of meat. It came in several flavors. My dog liked it and was easy for him to eat. The kibble was a good size, not too large. I like kibble to be very healthy. However, the store sometime didn't have enough package sizes and I couldn't always find the larger packages.

I chose Nutro High Endurance, because I wasn't always a fan of the food but now with them looking out for the pet and pet owner (as far as what they want), it's nice to know that they listen. I like that they're starting to supply the pet owner with "healthier" versions of their brand of food (ie. grain free, organic, real meat). My dog needs weight management for health and Nutro Lite & Weight Management provides everything I need to keep my dog in a healthy weight class. The reason I choose this food is less fillers and digested better for my dog. Also a better quality product. A lot of breeders and such that I know highly recommend Nutro dog food for healthy dogs and maintaining weight. They have used it for a lot of other reasons.
Nutro has a wide range of products, but they could include more meat types for my other dogs not on a diet at this time. Also they could lower the price a bit to make it more affordable for everyone. It's a great food, just out of range for a lot of folks maybe on a lesser budget than I am. I think more folks would buy this if just a little cheaper.

But it smells funny, may be too filling at times, and does not have all the vitamins, minerals and nutrients for my dog. Also not great variety of flavors.

I choose to purchase Nutro Original Formula because on other brands my dog was always acting hungry after eating. I wanted something with a lot of meat to keep him full for a period of time. However, I think that the dog food is expensive for a small bag. I could buy a bigger cheaper brand on the same shelf and that the bigger bags make it harder to carry out of the store and at home.

I initially purchased Nutro Original Formula because my neighbor gave me coupon. We tried and Chuck liked it so I continued to purchase it. It's supposed to be nutritious for a dog his age and as long as he's satisfied I'm happy. However, it smells horrible and that is really the only thing I would change if I could.

I like it’s healthy and all natural. I read too much on dog food out there and this is one that doesn't have negative reviews. I think it met my initial expectations since I didn't have the bar raised high so it didn't disappoint at all. I'm happy we tried and so are my dogs. I feel safe feeding my dogs this Wild Frontier dog food. I can find it at local stores which makes it convenient as well. I would like to see soft morsels in the mix. I do mix some hamburger or chicken in her food to help her out. Makes it easier for her to eat. My small dogs does better with chewy pieces better than the hard ones.

Nutro Wild Frontier is closer to nature than a lot of other brands I looked at. The cost was cheaper with higher concentrations of minerals and vitamins, plus the protein than the other brands without fillers or by products. I looked at the ingredients on the bag and I was sold because it included everything I think should be in a dog food that I feed to my Lady. I expected my Lady to snub the food but she really liked it which surprised me.

Nutro Farm's Harvest Dog Food provides a all in one healthy diet. My dogs really enjoy it although it is more costly than other brands available and I can never find coupons available. They should have sealable bags in many sizes. Also maybe tubs too? Small bite and also moist bites would be many more flavors too since I have a senior dog and a new puppy.

I chose to purchase Nutro Dog Food based on reviews from friends who also use them. I bought a small bag to allow my dogs to try it and they love it. I like that the food uses real ingredients and not fillers, and the makers use natural ingredients. It is a premium, high end dog food and I like that my dogs also like it. However, I would lower the price somewhat because it is a great dog food but it is quite expensive especially if you feed it to more than one dog. Although it is a natural dog food it surely doesn't have to cost so much to purchase.

Nutro High Endurance fills my dogs up more than any other brands and my dogs doesn't have a reaction to it. They have protein allergies and Nutro offers proteins they can have. It's a good food for my picky dogs that seems to be allergic to everything. It also has a wide variety of flavors they enjoy so they don't get bored with one flavor. However, it's harder to find and I have to drive at least 20 miles to a pet store to buy it and sometimes that's not practical. It would be easy if they at least offered free shipping.

I have fed my Labrador Retrievers Nutro for over 20 years. I fed my large Lab Nutro lite but he didn't care for it so I started feeding all of my Labs Limited Ingredient Lamb Meal and Rice. My oldest male lab currently 4 years old started vomiting yellowish green bile. I thought he may be eating something outside that was causing it because it only happened about once a week. This dog also seemed really lazy and just laid around. I changed his food to Fromm weight control and he no longer vomits the bile and has a lot more energy. He goes for 1/2 mile walks and does 1/2 mile on the treadmill. This dog did not have the energy to do anything while eating Nutro. I also have a 7 month old Lab puppy and he refused to eat the Nutro large breed puppy food. I used to consider Nutro to be a quality food but it is not the same as it used to be. My dog had a very sensitive stomach and we finally found a food that seemed to treat her well. We bought about 5 or 6 different formulas of Nutro natural before we found one that didn't make her throw up. My lab did live what I consider to be a long life of 12 years. We just had to put her down 3 days ago. I thought it was normal. However this is where I started to question her becoming sick with cancer.
2 months ago my sister's dog (retriever) who was 2 months older than mine had a very sudden stroke. As it turns out she was riddled with bone cancer and a piece broke off and went to her brain. She had to be put down. My dog and my sister's dog both ate this brand of dog food. I feel it can't be a coincidence that 2 dogs who did not live together died at the exact same age both of cancer after eating the same brand of food for most of their lives. I would like for there to be some studies done into this company's food. For most of us our pets are family members and to watch them die painful deaths of cancer is heartbreaking. The only common denominator between my dog and my sisters was the food.

Please do not brush this review off to the side. You will be thankful, and it will save you expensive vet bills. It might be lengthy but the stress this brand has caused my wife, dogs, and I is unbelievable. I'm just glad our dog and puppy are still alive! My wife and I purchased a large bag of the Nutro Ultra Large breed puppy food on Nov. 21st 2016. We did extensive research on the brand and it seemed to be a well respected and trusted brand. We were fairly happy with the ingredients listed and figured we would give it a go. We started incorporating the food slowly into our 1 yr old dog's diet. We noticed that she started becoming a little lethargic. Once we switched her over completely (we assumed she was fine, really dumb I know) she began vomiting and had diarrhea. She began sleeping way more than normal and we became very worried.
One night when I was playing with her I noticed her eye looked a little puffy. Then after 10 minutes the other eye did. We called our vet and we were told to give her **. Initially it stopped the swelling, but then she started vomiting again. We woke up at 3 am because she (luckily walked on us to wake us up). My wife flipped on the lights and my dog's face was COMPLETELY swollen! Her breathing was now labored. We left and took her to the animal hospital that night so that they could control her swelling. We took her off the food, and her poop went back to normal and she has not thrown up even once. The vet said that it was probably a spider bite or a sting of some kind, but this perplexed him because it is the winter time. So we kept the $40 dollar bag of food we bought for storage, and began making her meals to ensure that she would be okay.
Fast forward to Dec. 30th. We bought my dream dog! Purebred German Shepherd with health guarantees from a reputable breeder, and champion bloodlines. Once we returned home from our long drive from picking him up, my wife gave him some Nutro Ultra (we figured at this point our other dog was either stung like the vet said, or that she had a specific allergy). The poor little guy began having diarrhea around 12 am that night, and spent most of the night vomiting. I set up an early vet appointment and we set out to see what was wrong. While waiting for our appointment I decided to see if anyone else was having problems. Lo and behold! TONS of reviews of similar, if not identical symptoms! The vet tested my dogs for parvo (which came back negative), and then said that it was likely the food that was responsible. All in all vet bills totally around $300 to ensure the health and safety of our dogs.
I see these reviews, and a lot of them are from the past few months. Yet, no recall yet? Really? Avoid this brand of dog food. Do your research, or if you have the time make the food yourself. It's not worth the risk to see your puppies suffer because you want to give this food a try. I beg you! If I could give this product 0 stars I would. I will be contacting the manufacturer to let them know that their product shouldn't be sold. Period. I hope they have some more information as to why this is happening!
We bought our food from Chewy.com and they said that they would also begin researching this issue, and get back to us about this. Side note: Chewy seemed genuinely concerned, and I would still recommend them to anyone. Sorry for the long winded review. You want a happy healthy dog? Look elsewhere, because if you buy this food, you will have some expensive vet bills coming your way. Possibly even a dying dog on your hands. Do not put yourself through it.

I have 3 dogs and two of them have been on Nutro Lite Adult 1+ Chicken, Whole Brown Rice & Oatmeal Recipe (the 30 lb bag) for 12 years now with the 3rd being on it for over a year since we adopted him. My dogs have always loved this food and I have had no problems and I have always felt they were healthy because of this dog food. My dogs are almost 13, just turned 12 and 4 years old. I purchased the last 30 lb bag from PetSmart on November 21st of this year and all 3 of them seemed to just not want to eat the food. It was a first and I wondered why none of them seemed to have an appetite. In the time since, the two younger dogs now seem to eat it and seem to not have any issues but my older dog has just stopped eating. I have put rice in the food and he literally picks out the Nutro food and sets it on the floor beside his bowl so he can more easily get to the rice.
I felt at first that he was sick and just wasn't eating but when I now give him a bowl of only rice and now chicken, he gobbles it down. In the last 3 weeks, because of his lack of eating this food, he has lost several pounds (35 lb dog to start with) and is now very boney. I discovered this forum and saw so many others having the same or worse problems that had also used the food for years before with no issues. Because of this, I have now called the Mars company and have put in a formal report and if this is truly a problem with this food (which is made here in the U.S.) they need to know and they want to know, in my opinion, based on my conversation with them. Their number is 800-833-5330, Monday-Friday between 8am & 4:30pm CST... Thankfully, I still have the bag the food in question it came in and I was able to give them the batch number and expiration date (November 2017) off the bag along with the SKU number.
I believe that, unless the problems are reported, they simply won't know there is a potential problem. I would encourage you all to call the number and make the report. This company wants to hear if there are problems popping up and I hope this may save other folk's pets from health issues and heartache for their owners. We need to let them know our experiences.

First of all, I wish I had seen these reviews several months ago. I started my dachshund on Nutro senior dog food at the beginning of this year. After several months, she started vomiting, rapidly losing weight, developed a "funny" walk and urinating uncontrollably. I have taken her to the vet several times only to be told her issues are mostly related to her age (she's sixteen). She did have blood work done that showed she has early stage kidney disease and has developed chronic pancreatitis.
It wasn't until I recently started feeding the same food to my daughter's dog that I started to suspect that something was wrong with this food. She immediately started developing the same symptoms as my dog and after going to the vet and having blood work done, also has developed a case of pancreatitis. I started to feed my dog fresh, homemade dog food and her symptoms have reversed. She isn't having accidents anymore, is gaining weight and is no longer vomiting. My daughter's dog is currently on antibiotics and a prescription dog food but I expect that her symptoms will also improve.
After Googling the name of the dog food and reading all of these complaints I am very upset that this has been going on for a while and the company has been able to continue to manufacture and sell the food.

We have a 25 lb pug, Bo and a 6 lb pomeranian papillon mix, Red. I have been feeding them Nutro brand since we got them 6 years ago. About a week ago we opened a new bag and they started eating it. I noticed that they were not eating very much and would actually walk away from it. I thought they were being picky and wanted treats instead.
On Wednesday of last week Red started acting stranger than normal. He was lethargic and was eating very little, but drinking lots of water. Bo was not eating very much either but drinking lots of water. On Thursday I came home and discovered that Red was vomiting, and would not eat at all. On Friday we took him to the Vet. The vet ran blood test and said his kidneys were shutting down. He was hospitalized with a IV drip to give him fluids and is still in the hospital. He was very sick. The only thing he knew in his system was the new bag of Nutro. The Pug has refused to eat the Nutro. After reading these reports, I do believe that the Nutro Dog Food is the culprit. I called my vet and let them know what I think it is. I will never feed this food to my dogs again. I cannot trust it. Looking for a new food that I can trust.

Nutro Large Breed Chicken, Whole Brown Rice and Oatmeal Recipe. We have been feeding our dogs, Dottie (17 yrs) and Bear (1 1/2 yrs) Nutro dog food since we have had them both as pups. Our Lab, Bear gobbles down his food like a typical Lab. Just recently after opening up a new bag and we noticed that he would wake up in the middle of the night throwing up yellowish bile. After reading all the other reviews that were the same, he would stop eating and look up at my wife with sad eyes. He always eats his food and he was trying to tell us that we were killing him by giving him this food.
We have been using this product with our other Lab Moose without any problems till recently. There is something wrong with this dog food. We changed his dog food last night and his poop is pretty normal. It will take a few days for the gas to stop. We are NOT EVER going to use this food EVER. Very DISAPPOINTED that this company for not doing more after reading ALL these same problems caused by their food.

I purchased the Nutro Dog Food for my dog because they claim to be natural. I ended up with a dead dog. My dog stopped eating, became lethargic, started vomiting and diarrhea. And died a horrible death. This food is no good. I can't get my dog back and it's heartbreaking that I thought this would be a better choice in food. That happy dog would have been 1 on the 10th of September and I got his shots. Didn't change anything in his life only the dog food. My biggest mistake??? I emailed Nutro and haven't heard from them. They are the worst with all these complaints. They should recall the food.

We'd been feeding our 11 yr. old chihuahua Nutro Ultra Small Breed dog food for about 18 months as recommended by the folks at PetSmart. We recently bought a new bag of the same food and within days, our dog developed diarrhea, lost her appetite, and became very lethargic. Not even thinking it could be her food (as it was what she'd been eating for 1 1/2 yrs), we took her to the vet. They said her stomach was very hard, and gave her antibiotics and something to help stop the diarrhea. After two more weeks, she still hadn't recovered and we were about to go back to the vet when we thought to check for info on her food. That's when we discovered this website, and that all reviews of this brand back to Dec. 31, 2015 seemed to be 1-star ratings!
We immediately researched to see if we could find some unbiased info on pet foods, and finally came up with 8-10 recommended brands. Armed with these, we visited a different pet store (Mr. Pet's, I believe), where we seemed to get very educated, sensible advice about a number of these brands that they carried; also some others, and what they recommended for our particular age and breed of dog. We ended up switching to a brand made in Canada, which is free from fillers, and one which does not use antibiotic-fed meat in its production. (I'd be more than happy to share the brand, but not sure if that's allowed on this site.) Because we didn't want to do the usual gradual food switch due to the detrimental impact the current food was having on our pet, the store recommended that mixing a spoonful of cooked pumpkin would aid digestion and help ease the transition.
Our dog LOVED the new food (including the pumpkin), and within a couple of days was back to her normal self, and then some! She's regained some of the vigor she'd lost over the past 3-4 years. We figured she was just getting old, but it's AMAZING what a difference her new food has made! I should mention that PetSmart did accept return of the big bag of Nutro Ultra that we had recently purchased, without raising an argument; something we really appreciated.

I just was reading about Nutro dog food. I have been giving this food to my dog for years. About 2 years ago my dog got very, very sick, vomiting, diarrhea and not eating. Almost died. Took him to the vet numerous times and they could not find nothing wrong with him. They gave him antibiotic and I made him homemade chicken and rice until he got better. He got better and went back to the Nutro dry dog food and again started with the throwing up bile, gagging and diarrhea again. Would have never guessed it was the food because he had been taking it since he was a baby. Since I switched brands of food my dog is doing great.

I, like the rest of recent posts have used Nutro Large Breed Puppy in the past and it has been okay. Then I used Bil-Jac for a couple of months and my Weimaraner puppy loved that. The Nutro was on sale at my local pet store so I bought it again and it has been a disaster like others have described. My dog's stool has been consistently loose and it turning into diarrhea this past week. I tried mixing in pumpkin and rice to help and nothing did. He has also been foaming at the mouth and throwing up bile. Being that he tries to eat everything I thought maybe he got a hold of a frog or toad without my knowledge. He has also been urinating in the house after being previously fully house trained. The final straw last night was when he soiled himself in his kennel. I am returning it today and letting them know about the problems so they can think about pulling it.

I WISH SOMEONE WOULD HAVE TOLD US ABOUT THIS BEFORE WE GAVE IT TO OUR PUPPY!!! My wife and myself recently added to our family and new member. He was a adorable little "Ozzie-Doddle", full of energy and just as lovable as could be. He was jet black with little white paws with just a touch of white just below his chin. He was the most adorable thing you have ever seen. He would run thru the house and play with our 9 year old "She Po". My wife and I are in our mid 60's and it was like watching two little children play. Everything was perfect up till approx a couple of weeks ago when my wife changed dog food for the our puppy Maxamus to Nutro Puppy Mix from the brand she had been feeding him since we purchased him.
We noticed immediately that Maxamus just started nibbling at his food instead of eating what he was given. He would just would pick at it throughout the day. Then all of a sudden this past Wednesday, July 13th, 2016, my wife looked down and Maxamus had eaten his entire food bowl of food. Within minutes of eating the food our puppy starting running thru the house vomiting severely and pooping (which he had never done) because he was housebroken. He also became very disoriented, had a problem standing up or walking straight. He started crying out loudly and having seizures as he suffered in severe pain. None of which these problems were presented until he finished eating the Nutro Puppy Chow.
The day prior to this incident, our other dog had also eaten small amount of the Puppy Chow from Maxamus' bowl before my wife caught her and she also became violently ill, causing her to also become violently ill and to vomit violently throughout the night and go to the bathroom. Luckily for us, our other dog (Lexus) was older and larger than Maxamus, which we believed saved her life otherwise we believe she also would be dead. I wish someone would have told us about this "dog food" before we gave to our puppy, maybe then my wife and myself would not be going thru this heartache. I wish somewhere, someplace in the store where we purchased the dog food, there would have been a warning telling people, "Before you give this food to your dog, please check out current customer complaints concerning our product".
We have turned over customer complaints to our local vets in our area in hopes that the next dog that comes into their offices with symptoms matching our puppy's symptoms if they have been feed Nutro Dog Food. Maybe they can save that dog's life. At least they will know where to start to look liver damage and neurological damage. Our puppy Maxamus did nothing to deserve to die a excruciating and painful death that he suffered due to what we believe was "BAD PUPPY CHOW". DON'T GIVE THIS TO YOUR DOGS.

He also developed shakiness. He stumbled when he walked. He's recovering now but he refuses to eat his food. He sniffs it and whines until you feed him something else. I switched my 7 month old Husky mix slowly to this food (Nutro Large breed lamb puppy food) over the last 2.5 weeks mixing it with the blue Buffalo he is currently on. I upped the mix of Nutro to approx. 75% from 50% on Monday evening and he threw up Tuesday evening then on Wednesday at 3am. I could not sleep because I was so worried about my baby dog. He threw up most of his dinner after eating it like 9 hours ago. Then I decided to look at the reviews and saw a lot of other people saying the same thing and that Nutro was making their dog sick. I wanted him off the food immediately.
I went and bought him Orijen Puppy food Thursday and pretty much switched him cold turkey (I mixed the little bit of the Blue Buffalo I had left in with it) and he has had no problems. He was mostly fine on the Blue Buffalo except he would have loose stools sometimes. I did some Research on Nutro looking at Reviews on Pet Smart and everything seemed fine, but apparently I did not research enough! Do yourself a favour and skip this food! Not worth the risk!

Our 6 yr old Lab/Retriever Cross just spent 3 very sick days in & out of the vet's office. (Not to mention over $1000.00 in vet bills.) It started when we purchased a new bag of Nutro Ultra Large Breed food. Within a few hours of eating from this bag he was vomiting, this went on for a couple of hours. Later that evening we tried to give him a very small amount of food, he ate it and again an hour later was vomiting.
For the next 12 hours, he was continuing to be sick, he refused to lick ice and we were concerned with dehydration. The vet took him in and immediately put him on an IV. Then the tests began. It took days for our dog to accept even a little food. (NOT Nutro!) For a time we were worried that he might not make it thru this. Thankfully, 4 days later he is now eating and drinking again, his energy is still low, but he'd on the mend. There was no other reason found for his condition other than it was likely diet induced. I send Nutro an email informing them of the situation, with the bar code from the bag of food, hoping that they will do the right thing and recall this food before more dogs get sick.

While this food may be good for your dog the packet I bought for my dog contains pellets that are ROCK hard and even after one hour in water remained in the same way. If possible avoid giving this food to your dog as it will block up their colon and could lead to serious digestion problems.

My Boston Terrier developed red eyes (with thick discharge), was very lethargic and began urinating uncontrollably throughout the house - which is completely out of character. In addition his fur became dull and began to fall out. My other dog, a Boston Terrier/Pug Mix began vomiting yellow foamy bile multiple times a day and was also extremely lethargic. Her eyes became bloodshot as well. This continued for almost a week before I realized that the food may be the culprit. I switched them back to their old food (Whole Earth Farms) and within a day they both regained energy. Their skin, fur and eyes looked significantly better and there were no more vomiting or urination issues. I'm confident, especially based on other similar accounts, that the food was to blame. Half way through the bag now, one of my dogs began panting uncontrollably, shivering, staring at the ceiling, drooling and had a fever. The vet said she was in pre-seizure and could go into one at any time. This is the 3rd case I know of just with coworkers! A Week ago another girl's dog seized after starting the farm harvest. A few weeks prior to that another dog seized so badly that it died, and this is just after switching to Nutro. Coincidence? I have no hard evidence to say it's the Nutro, but that's the only commonality and it's just too odd that 3 dogs with no history of seizures all had issues after being put on Nutro.

He then claimed every batch is tested before it even makes it into bags or to the shelf, so they already know the food I bought is fine. I asked him, "then you don't need my food sample?" to which he stated, "well they may take a look at it." A few days later he brought my food back stating I needed to call the 1-800 number and file a complaint, and that they refused to check the food as I may have tampered with it. Really people?
