ManyPets is a dog and cat insurance company that offers accident and illness coverage with 70% or 80% reimbursement and a $500 starting deductible. Pet owners can add on an additional wellness plan that is not insurance but covers up to $150 per year in each of these four categories: dental cleanings, exams and vaccinations, testing and parasite prevention, and vitamins and supplements.

ManyPets also covers pre-existing conditions if your pet has been symptom and treatment-free for 18 months.

Keep in mind that ManyPets is only available in 45 states, Sweden and the United Kingdom. If you are traveling with your pet outside the U.S. or Canada, your vet visits will not be reimbursed.

To sign up for ManyPets, you will need to fill out a short survey about your pet, your pet’s age and breed, and your ZIP code. You will then get an instant quote for both the accidents and illness coverage and the add-on wellness plan.

Waiting periods before coverage goes into effect vary by state. In some states, there is only a waiting period for illnesses, while in others, there is a waiting period for both accidents and illnesses. The wellness plan waiting period is only 24 hours.

Once your coverage begins, you can visit any licensed vet for care. You will pay the vet directly and then submit a claim through ManyPets for reimbursement.

ManyPets offers two coverage options, though the wellness plan can only be added on; it is not a stand-alone product.

• Accidents and illness coverage: Coverage includes unexpected accidents or illnesses, blood tests, X-rays, any vet-prescribed medications and hospital visits. It does not cover spaying and neutering or cosmetic treatments.
• Wellness coverage: The wellness option covers vaccinations, exams, dental cleanings, vitamins and supplements, and testing and parasite prevention. It does not cover grooming, spaying or neutering, or microchipping.

You can expect to pay a monthly premium beginning at $15 for cats and $20 for dogs. Monthly premiums depend on variables such as the age and breed of your pet, your location, the deductible, the co-pay and any add-ons.
