My 4.5-year-old dog has been eating Beneful Healthy Radiance for several years with no problem. This week I opened a new bag of food and she's had diarrhea ever since. This morning I thought to search to see if this product had been recalled and found links that scared me to death. Nestle & Purina have known that this food is poison for years and have done nothing to take it off of the market. Dogs are dying and pet owners are left feeling sad and guilty. I'll fast her this morning and change her food tonight to see if that helps. I will never buy a Nestle or Purina product again, and I'll do everything in my power to let everyone know exactly what products these companies manufacture so they can avoid them. How many pets have to get sick and die before Purina pulls this deadly product?

We opened a new bag of Beneful Original last week and have a sick 4-year-old Goldendoodle. I filed a complaint with FDA and encourage all of you to do it. Our Bailey has diarrhea and vomiting as of yesterday. Please go to the FDA site and report yours.

I have a 12-year-old doxie who had been ill; so when she first got out of hospital, I started cooking her meals. She has really improved, but I was getting some dog food for my other two, and noticed the new meals from Beneful and got them for her. I had fed her a couple (one will last several days as she gets 3 oz each feeding) and on the third one, I noticed a bright blue "object," which I pulled out of the food. It looks like aquarium gravel - for lack of better description - and had a very sharp edge to it. I have set it aside, mentioned it to PetSmart, who said I need to report it, but didn't say where. I am lucky in that none of my animals are showing signs of illness; but in finding foreign objects in the food, I tossed the rest of them. I will go back to cooking meals for her. I will watch her closely for any signs of kidney issues, but think I may be a lucky one. Never again will I buy Beneful though, and it is going on my Facebook page to warn others.

Our family lost one of our beloved members almost 2 years ago now. I am just learning of all of this Beneful being toxic and all the people who have lost a family dog. We fed Koda, our German Shepherd, Beneful for years before his death. We noticed he didn't seem himself weeks before he died. When it did happen, his whole body shut down. His kidneys failed; it was horrible. The vet could not give us any explanation and we could not afford to look into more, but the only thing that makes any sense is the food we were giving him. He was a very healthy 90-lb, 5-year-old beautiful boy. There was nothing else wrong. I feel all these complaints need to be looked into and get this food tested and taken off the shelves. It's horrible to think that what our family went through will continue to keep happening to other families. These poor animals being a victim to the corporate money hungry **, they didn't deserve this. Something needs to be done now!

I want to add my story. One month ago, my 10-year old shih tzu was fine and then out of nowhere, he fell over and pooped all over himself. He could not get up. We rushed him to the vet and by then, his temp and blood pressure were low and he had bloody diarrhea. The vet said he was in pain and had no idea what was wrong. We decided not to put him through invasive tests and sadly, we had to let him go.

My dog Sam has been experiencing the growth of nodules or bumps all over his body for the past two years. My family has searched for an explanation for this phenomenon, especially because the nodules appear cancerous. Luckily, none of them has come back as positive for cancer. However, they keep returning, even after we had them surgically removed. Sam frequently bites at them because of pain and discomfort. Recently, I read a post from a friend on Facebook discussing similar experiences with their dog. They also feed their dog Beneful, and their dog is not older like my dog. Since then I've found hundreds of other accounts on reliable websites about this reaction. Beneful needs to be held responsible for their negligence.

We have 3 dogs: 2 cavaliers and a poodle. Our poodle has eaten Beneful for a long time without any problems. We adopted the 2 cavaliers just before Christmas and started feeding them the same food. Last week, one of the cavaliers became very sick. She could not keep anything in her stomach. We took her to the vet, and he immediately asked what we fed her. When we told him that she has eaten Beneful, he ran the blood test. He confirmed that it has to be the food. With the medication and a bland diet, she is better now. The upset stomach is gone, and the blood in her stool has finally stopped.

I have been feeding our dog Bella Beneful dog food for several years now. I bought it because it was cheaper than a lot of other brands. She, in the last few months, has lost weight and is not as energetic as she used to be. We chalked it up to her getting old and didn't think anything of it. I took her to the vet about 2 months ago for a check-up and to get her looked at as she has developed a large lump about the size of a baseball on her chest area. The vet told me that this was normal and that it was not a concern. Okay, I thought great. Recently, she has been vomiting although not a lot. I have noticed that she has been drinking a lot more water than normal. Another thing is she is losing her hair even during the winter. It is falling out in clumps. I saw all these complaints on Facebook and the light went on.

After noticing my dog having trouble urinating, I took him to the vet. The x-ray revealed 40+ stones in his bladder and urethra. There was nothing they could do, and my dog was in pain. We decided to put him out of his pain. The vet said that, in her experience, dogs eating Beneful are getting bladder stones.

I wrote a previous review about Beneful Original causing liver failure and the death of one of my Great Danes a few weeks ago. As it turns out, my other Great Dane is also in liver failure from having eaten that same poison! We need to be notifying the FDA of the problems we are having so they will investigate. Otherwise, people will continue to have the same problems we are having and nothing will be addressed! I read that although this site has had over 325 complaints, the FDA has only received a handful, not nearly enough to warrant an investigation. Please do right by your pets and fellow pet owners and report what's going on to the proper authorities. They request that you fill out separate reports for each animal affected. If you need to do that, there is a "clone report" option.

All I feed my dogs is Beneful Wet and Dry. Over the past few months, I have noticed them losing weight. My pit had huge knots all over her body, skin peeling off her nose. My terriers have been vomiting a lot. This is disgraceful that this company is being allowed to kill and harm our family members. They need to accept responsibility for what they are doing. This is horrible. I trusted in you and your products! You have failed to do what your ads claim - very disappointed dog lover from NY.

My dog, Mclovin, was fed Beneful by my dog sitter while I was gone over the holidays. When I came home and picked him up, my sitter said he would vomit occasionally. I didn't think much of it, he is a dog. His appetite was fine and he acted normal, he would just vomit on occasion. I took him to the ER after a couple days (my vet wasn't open on New Year's) of this and they did blood work and looked for an obstruction with X-rays. Nothing looked abnormal.

My peekapoo was 8 years old and healthy. I have always fed my dogs this food. Then one day, my baby girl started acting funny. She quit eating and then slowly started to where she would only drink and acted like she was dying of thirst. This went on for over a week, but I did not have the money to take her to the vet. I never thought it would be the dog food because my other dog acted fine. Then she got worse and her tongue turned purple in color. I finally got the money up and took her to the vet. She was in severe kidney failure. That was after several test and one week of being on antibiotics with not knowing. What was wrong with her? I then go online and research on what could have happened to my baby. I put two and two together and realized it was the dog food. I could of never imagine the food she loved is what was killing her.

Please do not buy Purina Beneful Prepared Meals, Simmered Chicken Medley, scan no# 1780010964, 10 oz. I gave just a small amount to my 5lb and my 8lb yorkies. This stuff made both very sick. Had I given them the 10 oz, I would not have them here today. Why are you stocking the shelves with this poison? Do you feed your pets this crap? Probably not! Chances are you don't even have pets! Because if you did, we the consumer would have no worries! Our fur family members are just that, our family! They are a part of our life! I hope you all sleep well at night knowing that your poison you are putting on our shelves is killing precious babies that we love and care about!

I accidentally came across this article about Beneful. All comments are exactly what happened to my 7-year-old Min Pin that should have lived twice that age. I fed him Beneful his whole lifetime, but when he got older I switched to Beneful Healthy Weight. Within 2 years, he gained weight and I only fed him twice a day and not as much as recommended on the feeding instructions. He was a very active dog until switching to this product. He went from a healthy 9 lbs. to 18 lbs. within two years.

My 7-year-old Akita, Sadie, ate Beneful for many years. We started when Sadie was still a puppy. He was playful then and finally, had a healthy weight. We noticed last summer, sometime in September 2012, that she developed what looked like a sun burn on her nose. All of her fur fell out, and she had blisters all over her snout. We treated her with triple antibiotic ointment and it only helped heal it to the point that it scabbed over; but it never went away. We then noticed a very foul odor coming from her, even after bathing her, the smell would not go away. We have seen her go from playful to lethargic, and she refuse to get up and go outside in a snap of a finger. She then started having an awful odor in her urine, along with pure blood and large blood clots when she went to pee.

I have been feeding my dogs Beneful for quite some time, but I think something is wrong with this latest batch bought in January 2013. My dogs got sick after eating it, diarrhea and vomiting. I hope I caught it in time. They will never eat Beneful again!

My mother and I owned a black Lab named Max. We feed him Beneful and found out he died of kidney failure. Now, she has a new dog and always stuck behind Beneful till her new dog ended up having kidney failure just like her last. So, I would never purchase Beneful again and will continue to put mine and other’s stories all over Facebook. They may not have recalled it, but if all my friends share then theirs do the same thing, you will eventually end up bankrupt. And we can forget about you altogether. And tell me, what you plan on doing to help these people who have lost a member of their family? Because let’s face it, that's the way dogs are; they're like your kids. So, how are you going to compensate them for their losses?

My German Shepherd was suffering and being treated for a degenerating nerve disease. At Christmas time, I wrote to my son who was in Air Force Basic Military Training and told him how well our boy was doing. Less than two weeks later, January 5th, he had grown lethargic and we rushed him to the vet. The vet explained that he had all the appearances of being poisoned and was quickly slipping away. Sabre passed that morning. We were feeding him Beneful Healthy Radiance and until today, I was unaware of any possible issues with this food. It is nearly 4 weeks later now and we have an appointment with the vet in a few hours for our Pekingese. She is now acting lethargic and hasn't eaten in 2 days. I am changing my dogs' food today and ask that something be done immediately to get this food off the shelf until it can be confirmed it is definitely safe. These dogs are more than just pets; they are much loved family members.

I fed Cooper (my full bred Corgi) Beneful his whole life. (I had him since 12 weeks old.) I started with the puppy brand, then the regular healthy weight brand and then about 1 year before all of his issues, I switched him to the Healthy Radiance. Prior to the horrible issues we endured for 4 months, he had skin tags that had to be removed and ear infections all the time. In September of 2011, he started to fly-bite. In November of 2011, he started having diarrhea consistently, not eating and getting really sick. Right away, we changed his food but it was way too late. We did everything we possibly could and over $5,000 later, I had to put him to sleep when his ulcer ruptured in his stomach and his kidney wasn't processing his urine causing him to basically pee pus and go into kidney failure.

I was feeding Wellness dog food to my 2-3 year old doxies. I lost my job and switched them to Beneful. Two days later, they were both at the vet with kidney failure. Both did not make it. Purina killed my dogs. Why is this company allowed to sell this dog food when it kills our pets? My dogs were my life. The Purina company will go down for this. I will do everything in my power to see that my dogs will get justice. After reading all the complaints, how are they allowed to do this? This company is pure evil and full of greed. They care nothing about our pets. This is why they use all these chemicals that are not necessary in the dog foods. Stop buying Purina. Boycott these animal killers, cheap crap filled with poison. Never again.

I am so glad I stumbled upon this from Facebook. We usually feed our Frenchie Science Diet only. But one afternoon, we ran out and were in a bind, so we ran to the supermarket and picked up a small bag of Beneful to get us by until we could get back to the pet store. Thank God, it was a small bag! After about a week, our li'l guy Bosco was not himself. We then picked up the Science Diet and he still wouldn't eat it. He was already so sick by that point. He wouldn't eat and was very lethargic. We waited another few days to just see if it was some type of little bug or something, but then he started with the vomiting and diarrhea.

Shame on Purina for knowing for quite a long time that Beneful was poisoning dogs. I nearly lost mine after only 5 feedings. Her coat went dull, started to fall out & she started vomiting. She became lethargic. As soon as I changed her food back to Pedigree, she recovered in only a couple of days & has had no further problems.

I have never used Purina products before and I wanted to try something different to try and help with my dog's gas problems. I bought a 42-lb. bag of Purina's Beneful Original from Sam's Club on January 8th. I started feeding it to her around the 10th or 12th. By January 20th, she started acting a bit lethargic and just not being her normal self. She vomited the first time on January 26th. On Sunday, January 27th, she didn't eat or drink anything.

On occasion, I would feed my dog as a treat a little wet dog food. I always used the Beneful Wet Foods. I had a very healthy long hair Jack Russell Terrier, Skippy, who had just been to the vets and was in perfect health. I also have an 8-year old Yorkie, Spike, but he did not eat wet food at all. On Sept. 8, 2012, I decided to give my Skippy a little wet good as a treat. So I gave him a couple of spoonfuls of the roasted chicken one and he ate it right away. My Spike would never eat any of it. A little while later, Skippy didn't seem himself and had some diarrhea. It wasn't like him to make in the house, so they went to sleep.

I have been feeding my three dogs Beneful Healthy Radiance for several years. Last week, my oldest, who is 7 years old, started throwing up and having diarrhea. I took her to the vet and she was diagnosed with pancreatitis. She spent 4 days in the hospital with IV's and meds. She is home now and is on the special Hills ID food. Today, I had to take my middle dog who is 6 years old. Same diagnosis. They have all had many of the same symptoms listed by others: lethargy, not eating and they were chewing at their feet, not realizing the feet were possible signs of allergies. I would never feed my dog a Purina product again.

Approximately a week and a half ago, my sweet Freddie became very ill. I took him to the vet last Tuesday. After doing blood work, he was found to be in kidney failure. His kidneys were 75% shutdown. The doc worked on him, but he just got worse. He passed away the next day. My heart is broken. The day after he passed, I discovered there had been numerous claims concerning possible contaminated food. I have filed a complaint with the FDA.

Our 5 year old healthy dog became violently ill one night and into the next day. She was vomiting constantly for most of the night and morning. I took her to the vet and hospitalized her. She was released after a day of fluids and meds. She had to be hospitalized 2 more times and never ate again after that night she became sick. She had liver failure, bloat and could barely move. The vets said it was like she was poisoned. We lost her 1 month after my mother-in-law died. This was a most devastating time for us. I read an article on Facebook about Beneful and it was all the same symptoms. We lost her October of 2012. My 4 children can't stop talking about her. I will stop people in the store and tell them to never buy Beneful!

My name is Erica ** and I would like to file a complaint about Purina Beneful Dog Food causing my dog to become very ill. My pit bull is a year and a half old and has been eating Beneful for the past year. In December of 2012, he became very ill. He was vomiting, lost control of his bladder, stopped eating and was drinking water excessively. All my little boy wanted to do was crawl in a ball and sleep; he had become very weak. We took him to the vet who informed us that he was extremely dehydrated, and that he was in kidney failure. He was immediately admitted to the hospital where he was given fluids and antibiotics. He stayed at the animal hospital from Tuesday, December 19th, to Saturday, December 22nd, 2012. During this time, he had his kidneys flushed, multiple tests ran and was provided with antibiotics.

First off, everyone leaving comments on this site, also go directly to the FDA and file a formal complaint with them. I spoke with them this morning and said until they see a large number of similar, formal complaints about a product, there is nothing they can do. I have been feeding my soon to be six-year old golden retriever Beneful almost exclusively since he was a puppy. He's always thrived and done well on it, until this month. We purchased a new 15 lb. bag of original Beneful at Wal-Mart in Rome, NY. Shortly after we started feeding Scooby the food from this bag, he developed some new habits. He began foraging around the house for food. He was getting into cat food and picking out of the trash. Here, we assumed it was just that a new, bad habit. We blocked his access to cat food and trash and only allowed him his own food, no table scraps either.

I have been feeding two of my dogs a Purina brand food and they are both vomiting. Both usually have high energy but have been barely getting up. I also feed my cats a Purina brand cat food. I have five cats; four will eat the food and one does not care for it. The four that have been eating it have all been vomiting after every meal. I am switching their food. Never again will I buy anything associated with their food especially when they refuse to admit there is a problem.

Back in June of 2011, my little girl, Raven, who is half Italian Greyhound and half Min Pin started getting sick. She was very healthy and had a vet visit the month before which was all good. The vet said she was really healthy and all her tests were negative at that time. Then in June, Raven started getting what the vets call wheals but I called them hives because I didn’t know what they were. To me, it looked like an allergic reaction to something. She had it all over her head, face, down her neck and onto her back. It didn’t seem to bother her but I knew something was wrong. After a while, she started acting funny and little did I know that this was the beginning of a very long journey for both of us.

This is the second time I've had trouble with Purina pet foods! I will not buy them again. First Purina Cat Food caused my Bombay cat to lose half of his fur. Not funny. Our vet said it was probably the corn gluten meal (listed first) in his food. It was! He eats Blue Buffalo cat food now and is fantastic! All of his lovely black fur grew back softer and shinier than ever. Now, I have to throw away an entire new bag of Beneful Radiance that my beautiful Great Pyrenees (2 years old) has been eating! She has been losing weight and sometimes just stares at her food. I just pray that she is fine! This is a really big deal for all of us who love our pets. They are family! Why is this obvious major problem with Beneful not on the news? Why has it not been recalled (immediately!) with dogs that have died?! How does Purina keep getting away with products that kill dogs and cats, make them very ill, cause huge vet bills to clients and cover up and treat their customers like trash?! Boycott Purina and have a class-action lawsuit started ASAP.

On January 15, 2013, I lost my 11-year-old beagle mix dog. He was my therapy animal as well. He had been eating Beneful Playful Life for about a year. On the 13th of January, he started throwing up and then having diarrhea. Then he lost control of his bowels and bladder that night. On the 14th, we took him in to his vet. They didn't know what was going on and put him on an antibiotic. We got home and all he wanted to do was sleep. When he was awake, he drank like water was going out of style. Then he got to the point that he couldn't walk to potty, so he had to be carried out. The next morning, he had a seizure. We rushed him in and his vet put him on IV fluids. His liver tests were way up and at 3:30, his heart stopped and he was gone. My whole family is devastated and wants to know if there is anything that can be done, and why there hasn't been a recall.

I just stumbled upon this site today, and I am appalled. I have a small Chihuahua terrier mix named Ceaser. Last summer of 2012, we thought we'd upgrade his food to Beneful. He might have eaten 1 or 2 small bags. One day, he suddenly broke out in hives on every inch of his body. He had slight diarrhea and gagging. We took him to the vet and they wanted to do all sorts of tests, which we couldn't afford. They also wanted to put him on prescription dog food, which we couldn't afford, either. I also never knew that diet could cause problems; the vet never told me that. I took him home. He was barely eating and was listless. We thought he was allergic to something unknown in the house. They said to give him Benadryl, which seemed to make him vomit. After about a week of him suffering, his dog food ran out, so we just picked up the generic, cheap, dog food at the store I was at by chance, not even connecting his diet to his illness. After about a week and a half, one morning he was all better! We were so relieved. Since then, he never had Beneful again. My daughter buys Kibbles n' Bits now or generic with table food, and he has never been sick since then. I feel terrible about all the people who lost their loved ones to Purina!

My 6 year-old Yorkie Bichon has been sick numerous times over the past month. There was a span of several days that he was completely out of it. He seemed to be in a complete daze. He had no energy or playfulness, and gave us no indication that he was hungry, thirsty or needed to go outside. His eyes were glazed over and he just stared into space. Thankfully, he bounced back after a couple days. I thought he may have just had a virus. Several weeks passed, and he seemed okay.

We learned about the issues with Beneful from our kennels owner a week ago. We have fed our dog this food for several years and were shocked to learn that there was a problem with a Purina product; this is a name associated with pets as long as I remember. As soon as I got home, I started doing some research and determined we would suspend use of all Purina products until further notice. We are not sure if this is a coincidence or what, but the following day, our Molly started with severe diarrhea. We immediately stopped feeding her Beneful and have now changed her over to a natural pet food. Her symptoms seem to be diminishing, but we are worried about the damage that might have been done before we knew. Had we not seen the notice posted at the kennel, who knows how long it would have been before we knew of the problems? Something needs to be done.

My dogs and my sister's dogs had been eating Purina Beneful and they all became very sick in the last week, starting with throwing up, gelatinous (jelly) like stools with blood and they have been very down and not their usual playful selves. I am so angry with Purina because of the way they are handling these complaints. I feel like everyone is being given the same line of bs so that the company can try to cover up the big problem here. Why do they continue to refuse to provide more information, statistics, etc. in regards to how many people have complained about the same food/bags/batch/lot numbers, etc. and where they source their food from? Nobody at Purina seemed to really care about our dogs getting sick from the food and were quick to offer us coupons for free bags of dog food. No thanks, Purina!

I am writing in regards to my little Teacup Poodle, Cheeto, who died on Monday morning, January 21, 2013, of renal failure. My daughter has submitted one review about this but I have information to add. Cheeto had a skin infection along with the other problems that my daughter mentioned. We took our dog on several trips to the vet to discuss what was possibly wrong with our little Cheeto. We had no idea that it could be the food he was eating which was Purina Beneful. But as soon as we thought he went blind and gained weight all at the same time, I yanked him off the Beneful and put him on EN (also made by Purina), a gastrointestinal special food. His bowels had also become bloody and slimy. The damage had already been done and apparently he was still getting poisoned by what he was eating. He began to throw up; another trip to the vet and he appeared fine for about 4 days and then began throwing up profusely and lost energy. We went to the vet again, blood tests, and more shots to comfort our boy. He did not recover.

We just bought a new bag of Beneful Weight Control for my 6-year-old Boxer a few weeks ago. As he started to eat it over the past few weeks, he became lethargic; then started to have diarrhea; vomiting; loss of appetite; weight loss; excessive water drinking; and urination/accidents in the house. We took him to the vet and his liver enzymes were extremely high. He was slightly anemic. The vet asked what we were feeding him and we said Beneful. She said to discontinue it immediately. She told us about the recent reports of Beneful incidents logged from November 2012 through January 2013 and said that she thinks the Beneful could be causing it due to Aflotoxins in the food, which is mold. She said he has all the symptoms.

I don't remember how long I fed Gus Beneful dog food. He liked it and at first, he seemed to be thriving on it. Suddenly, he began tearing at his skin and before long, he was scratching himself raw. Right to the vet he went. I was told, by the vet (at that time), after skin scraping, Gus had a yeast infection. Although his skin was red, itchy and flaking, I wasn't believing that was the cause. Still, I used the costly antibiotics and shampoo they prescribed because, after all, they were the experts. There was no improvement despite my efforts and expense. Gus continued to eat, and enjoy, his Beneful.

Our beautiful 11-year-old Chocolate lab Chester has eaten Beneful for many years. In October, we found a small growth on his neck. After a biopsy to confirm, it was benign, so we decided on surgery the following week. For the first time in his 11 years, he had diarrhea the day before surgery and again that morning of. There was also blood in his stool as well, so they cancelled the surgery and put him on meds to clear it up and rescheduled for the following week. He was somewhat lethargic but I attributed that to the diarrhea. He was not a big drinker for the most part but we all noticed that he was drinking so much more than ever during that time. Two years ago, we had him tested as he had low liver values and was put on medication for it.

My 5-pound dog has been eating Beneful for almost a year, and until a month ago, we were not having any problems with this food. We opened a new bag 4 weeks ago, and just after feeding this to my dog, he threw up his entire meal. He has never thrown up his food before. Thinking that the lot of dog food was contaminated, I threw the entire bag away and repurchased another bag from another store in a smaller quantity. In between purchasing the new bag of dog food, I was feeding my dog canned dog food that he was not throwing up. Again, once feeding him the dry Beneful, my dog was throwing up his entire meal! Obviously, something is wrong with this food! Thankfully, he is still alive.

I have lost both my cocker spaniel and rottweiler in 2012. Both my dogs were very healthy, and out of nowhere, they both started having serious health issues after eating Beneful dog food. They both became very lethargic and just wanted to lie around and be left alone. Both had unexplained diarrhea issues. The cocker spaniel had an unexplained blood disorder, weakness in his back legs, uncontrollable urinary issues, and excessive thirst. My rottweiler went from being very energetic and happy-go-lucky, to lying on the couch and sleeping a lot. Then out of the blue, she started having seizures. Our vet could not find anything that would cause the seizures. She was put on medication, which did not stop them. She also became very disorientated and also had urinary issues. Both my dogs could not control their bladders and started urinating in the house.

Please read. This past December, we lost our 7-year-old Beagle to kidney failure. I strongly believe Beneful caused her to fall ill. She and our Lab began throwing up frequently after they ate. I went online and researched their food and read about so many dogs becoming ill. Immediately, I changed their food. Our Lab bounced back but our beagle continued to decline. At this point, we took her to the vet; she had a very bad infection. Once her blood test came back, the doctor told us she had aggressive kidney failure. Within 3 weeks and $5200 in vet bills, she passed away. I will never forgive myself for feeding her this food. She was a wonderful dog who deserved a full life. Please do not feed your dog this food.

We lost our lab mix in 2006. She had been eating Beneful for several years and developed liver problems. Her last few months were a nightmare of trying to feed her homemade chicken and rice. I still feel a lot of guilt over this. Check your ingredients. Very poor nutrition, dyes and flavoring meant to entice your dog to like this product. Dogs do not need the color cues to make them enjoy food. There are several sites out that point out which foods are more nutritional with better processing procedures and facilities. It is well worth it to spend more money for a better product.

Is anyone else's dog breaking out in big knots all over their body? I am reading all of these posts about what happened to their dogs while eating Beneful, but I'm having different problems. My dog has been on Beneful for a couple of years, and 4 days ago, he broke out in huge knots all over his body. The vet said to give him Benadryl and see what happens. I did and it went away; but when the Benadryl wears off, the knots come back. What's going on with my dog?! The vet said to bring him in if it doesn't stop in the next couple of days.

I was an employee at Purina that makes this food. You have no idea what conditions are involved at that plant. I saw some nasty things. If you only knew, you would never buy anything from them. The rats are so bad there - big as house cats. They kill them with a gun and leave them laying around to rot. Sometimes the rats end up in the food while being made. Yep, dead rats. I was told by a manager that it was just free protein. I can't tell you everything, but someone please have this food recalled. Others probably need it as well. They make a lot of crap dog and cat food. I have dogs that I love dearly. I will never feed them that crap. Someone needs the FDA involved, but I'm sure they are paid to look the other way. It's a huge company. They cover up these things very well. I can never get involved as I worked there. So someone do something.

I need to file a lawsuit against Purina. My little teacup poodle Cheeto died of kidney failure on 01/21/2013 between 3am-430am. We used to feed him the Beneful brand of dog food made by Purina. Last week, I found out from my mom that Beneful causes blindness, seizures and kidney failure in dogs. My mom found out from a friend that a number of people have complained about the dog food to the FDA and to Purina because they had to put their dogs down because of the illnesses the food caused. They refuse to take the food off the market. My little baby Cheeto went blind in December of 2011 and got depressed. He didn't want to do much but he was eating and drinking just fine. A couple months later, his poop started having blood in it and was runny and slimy, so we switched his food from Beneful to EN which is a vet prescribed diet that one of my other dogs has to have because her digestive tract is messed up. The EN seemed to help Cheeto for a good few months.

My adult Golden had been on this food for years. This week, we started noticing some seizure activity that the vet had no real explanation for. We thought it was a side effect from an antibiotic for a urinary tract infection but the vet said, although possible, this is quite rare. I abruptly stopped giving her Beneful just in case. She has had no seizures and is more energetic than I've seen in a while.

Our dog has eaten Beneful Playful life for at least a year now, with no problems, until about a week ago, that is. He started having to go out more often and I noticed his stool becoming soft. This morning when I took him out, I noticed a small amount of blood in his stool. My mother told me something about a recall on Beneful, and I found all of the other posts, but no recall! I'm glad I caught this when I did because I had a friend lose her 3-year old Beagle to kidney failure a few months ago and she always fed him Beneful! I am a very disgruntled consumer and doggy mom, right now, and will no longer be using Beneful or even Purina from now on!

My 8-year-old dog, Ruby (Lab/Chow mix), has many allergies so we kept her on Natural Balance. She has hypothyroidism and is on medication. However, about a week ago, I sent my son to buy dog food. He picked up Beneful and I decided to try it anyway. Little by little, Ruby was showing signs that she was not feeling well. She became lethargic, drank an excessive amount of water and had some diarrhea. On Monday. January 21, 2013, my son called me at work to tell me that Ruby was acting "weird." She cried in pain a couple of times while she was laying down even though no one touched her.

In January of 2013, we buried our eleven-year-old dog. We didn't realize that we were the problem. You see, we had been feeding him Beneful for years and we didn't understand when in October of 2012, he started vomiting after eating his breakfast and drinking large amounts of water. We didn't think too much of it until he started losing his energy and then losing weight, becoming dehydrated and vomiting all the more. Then he started snubbing his nose to the food and stopped eating and drinking.

After receiving a link to this site, I was in shock. Like most posts, we had also put our Yorkie on Beneful dry food. She had developed excessive thirst and was getting skinny. She was vomiting all the time. We took her to the vet and testing was done with negative results. We were put on a sensitive diet and she got better. We started her slowly back on her Beneful and she was puking again. Mostly, she would be doing her thing and just puke. She was always eating grass. We took her off the Beneful and she is back to her normal fun self. Although, it cost a lot of cash and worse than that, we felt bad for her because she relies on us as her family. I am sorry for all of you who lost their pets due to this food we had fed our pets. Never again.

My Lab, Abbey, died in July 2012. Abbey died of liver failure! This was like losing one of my kids! I did not make the connection to Beneful until I read a post on Facebook. Consumer Affairs has over 284 reports ... The symptoms are alarming: vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, kidney failure and even death. You need to do something. Our pets are like family members!

My 5-year-old Great Dane died this past Sunday of cirrhosis of the liver caused by long term repeated exposure to an unnamed toxin. He was a perfectly healthy dog until he began having urinary incontinence. At first, we thought this may be due to a urinary tract infection. But after a thorough veterinary examination, no disease processes were found. Later, he began losing his hair. A follow up vet visit and subsequent lab work showed his thyroid to be slightly low, so we started him on Levothyroxine. His problem continued and actually worsened when he lost his robust appetite. Over the next 4 weeks, my 150 pound dog lost 13 pounds.

We lost our 2-year-old Pitbull on 1/9/13. He died in his sleep and I had the horrific experience to find him still on his bed. He was raised on Beneful from a puppy. He had many of the symptoms I've found on several sites and found in other people's posts, vomiting several times a week, mild lethargy and excessive water drinking among others. We assumed that the vomiting was caused by the excessive water drinking so I never thought much of it, just cleaned it up and carried on. Now after our research, the light has come on. We have since changed our 7-year-old Rott's food and she has not vomited once and appears to be on the mend.

We have a 1-year-old rat terrier (pure bred, no papers). We adopted her at age 9 months from another family - friends of ours. She is a small dog, only 9lbs. Her legs are too tall for her to classify technically as a miniature rat terrier, but as she is not 10lbs, she doesn't fit the typical rat terrier physical expectations for her breed. She is full grown. She is a beautiful girl. She is/was house trained. She let us know when she had to go potty when we got her and would hold her wet and stool until we took her outside. She would have occasional accidents when she first moved in with us and joined our family, but she learned very quickly with rewards and regular schedule. She got to where accidents were rare to never.

Purina fiesta needs to be recalled.. It made my dog sick - puking and diarrhea! Never been like that until he ate that food. Something is causing it. Figure it out and recall. And actually post my whole review honestly.

My dog has never had problems with other foods or been ill. He's up to date and healthy. But my 3-year-old shorkie pup didn't seem to be acting like himself a few days ago after I fed him the Purina fiesta dry dog food. I thought maybe he was just sluggish that day. The next day after he ate, he got sick and puked up his dry food. I cleaned it up then he had bad diarrhea and pooped on the floor which he never does and he can control his bowels. I fed him other food and thought he was sick from something else.

My two dogs became ill after eating Beneful. My first dog began having diarrhea that was dark and eventually turned to solid red. We took her to the vet after she became lethargic and refused to eat (12-8-12). They did blood work, stool samples and tested for a variety of parasites. Everything came back normal. They noticed her stomach area was swollen and wanted to do an x-ray. After taking about cost and having to take her to a specialist, we decided we would try the gastrointestinal dog food, probiotic and antibiotic that they were going to use to treat her. They also gave her an IV because she was dehydrated. We decided to feed both dogs the gastrointestinal food for ease.

Saturday, following Thanksgiving 2012, my very healthy 11-year-old Maltese fell ill. He would not eat or drink, could not walk straight and vomited. On Monday, I took him to the vet. She did blood work and found he had severe pancreatitis and severe kidney failure. She wanted him admitted to the hospital, so we did that for one night. Then she allowed me to bring him home where my family and I administered fluids via IV and antibiotics with immunizations of anti-nausea med and pain. We did this for two weeks. He passed away on Dec. 15, 2012. I had him for eleven and a half years. I loved him so much. He was a member of my family. All I did was feed him a good product, take care of him, and love him. He loved me too. We were also out vet bills, but that would have been all right if he could have gotten well and lived.

We started feeding our registered Yorkie Sarah Beneful dog food about two years ago. She started having occasional seizures, which the vet could find no reason for. She suddenly stopped eating and having incontinence. (She was only 8 years old.) We took her to the vet and blood work determined she was starting to experience kidney failure. She stayed at the vet overnight for observation, 2 nights to receive intravenous fluids to try to jump start her kidneys. She seemed to improve but almost as soon as she got home, she started wandering around aimlessly and evacuating her bowels on the floor.

My German Shepherd/Lab was only able to eat Beneful original brand. She had a sensitive stomach and could only eat this brand with no side effects. I did have her and my other dog, a Maltese, eat the Healthy Fiesta brand for a few months between August to September because she was putting on some weight, but I switched back to the original brand because family members felt the other regular brand was safer (don't switch up her food). However, in October 2012, I noticed a big weight loss - enough that her ribs were showing and the area around her nose, eyes, and mouth became extremely bony. I thought the family members were not keeping her fed enough, so I took the responsibility of feeding both dogs morning and night. She put on a little bit of weight, and then in November and December she was showing signs of a urinary tract infection.

I purchased Beneful dog food from Family Dollar Store (zip code area 73096). After eating it, our dog became very ill. He vomited, and had diarrhea for hours on Jan. 13, 2013.

I have been feeding my pug Beneful Fiesta for almost 6 months. I recently bought a new bag of Beneful with expiration date 10/13 at Walmart. My pug who normally gobbles his food didn't want to eat. He actually shunned his food. When I got him to eat his food, he threw it up. After reading the recent reviews, I will never subject any of my pets to Purina products again. I am returning this product to Walmart and switching his food immediately. I am very disappointed there has not been a recall of this product.

I began feeding my dogs Beneful about a year ago. Other than the occasional upset stomach, nothing was wrong with either of them, until they shared a new type of Beneful food - Beneful Healthy Radiance. Within days, my family found themselves in a month-long struggle that cost us nearly $1,500 and the life of a beloved friend. My first dog, an 11-year-old chow/German Shepherd mix, became sick first. He began to have excessive diarrhea, having accident after accident in the house. Then one day, he stopped going to the bathroom completely. We took him to the vet and he determined that my dog had an enlarged prostrate, though the cause was unknown. For the next week, we paid for every test possible, only to be told that they were stumped. They wanted to send him to a specialist, but considering that he had not been able to urinate/defecate for days, we decided to put him down on 12/14/2012.

We had a puppy on Purina dog food, who inexplicably when eating Beneful and the ProPlan, became incredibly ill and was forced to be put down because of seizures. We didn't make the connection until after the fact but he was fine until we switched his food to Beneful (we were out of town and didn't have his normal Fromms) which is when he had bloody stools and his first seizure, losing almost all muscle function. Then after putting him on a chicken and rice bland diet, he started regaining his ability to walk and our vet recommended ProPlan. We began incorporating it into his diet and he began getting very lethargic and sick again.

I came across the article regarding the Purina Foods by chance. All the while I was going through the same things these other few hundred people were experiencing. My 4-year-old Bulldog was stricken suddenly with kidney failure, directly after we tried a couple new foods including Beneful after the store we shopped at stopped selling our prior brand. Izzy stopped eating. She started throwing up, lost weight and became lethargic. Blood panels showed her BUN at 220. She is currently managing chronic kidney failure and we are only buying time with her. Purina needs to re-examine and try to find out if there is something to these claims.

In 2011, my 12-year-old Bichon Frise had to be put down due to seizures. He had a lot of blood tests run on him, and a lot of other tests but nothing(!) came up. He was put on meds, but that didn't help. He still had the seizures and he just didn't look happy. He was suffering; he kept having seizures. The whole time while he was suffering, he was still getting fed Beneful. Back then, I did not know about any of the complaints that Beneful had because if I did, my dog would have still been here if the food was recalled. He was eating Beneful for a good 1 or 2 years before his seizures started to occur.

After reading your report on Purina's Beneful dog food killing dogs nationwide, I felt the need to report. My cat has had the exact same problems in the symptoms list. We have spent $1,500 in emergency vet bills to find out we need to change my cat's food. For years he has eaten this and it came upon him fast. He started vomiting, vomiting with extreme diarrhea, and excessive water drinking. I noticed him with lethargy and getting weight loss. The vet told me to feed him only wet cat food, so I found a gluten-free, grain-free brand called BFF. Due to all this trauma, he has developed mild diabetes. But it seems to be controlled by the food change, which has been a struggle. I also only give him Orijen dry cat food now. He just has not been the same since this problem. He was always so healthy until this rapid onset.

Our 3 dogs have been on Beneful Healthy Weight for a good 4 years and never had a problem. Until recently, we purchased a bag of Beneful probably about 1 month ago from our NEX. We started having diarrhea issue with our two smaller dogs and couldn't figure out what was causing it. We took the dogs to the vet to see what it was. They alerted us when we told them what food they eat, and that they have seen a couple of dogs eating the same dog food with the same problems. Luckily, we caught it early but won't be buying Beneful anymore. Our dogs are our kids and won't put them in harm’s way.

I have a 6-year-old registered female Sheltie. Two years ago, the vet stated she was worried about the dog being overweight, so I started her on Beneful Healthy Weight. In one year, she lost 10 pounds and seemed to be on track. Recently, she started having problems with her kidneys and seemed to be suffering from excessive thirst. Then I found out that Purina is having a problem with Beneful, making dogs sick namely kidney failure. I immediately removed my dog from Purina Beneful and will never again purchase a Purina product - neither dog food or dog treats. I also will never purchase another dog food or dog treat that is not manufactured in the USA (which is almost next to impossible).

All I've ever fed my dogs was Beneful. I never had a problem with it until I noticed my dogs looked like they were losing weight! Our female Boston Terrier ate so much and looked like we starved her for days. Our male didn't look as skinny. On October 31st, we came home and noticed that our female dog wasn't really moving and she looked really ill. She didn't want to get up to go to the bathroom and had massive diarrhea. She died within 30 minutes. We had no idea what had happened to her and unfortunately didn't have money for an autopsy. Never did we think the food had anything to do with it. During the next couple of months, I still kept feeding our male dog the food and he started looking very skinny as well. My husband kept asking me if he was being fed and my answer was always yes, I feed him!

My dog Gizmo was a very healthy 9-year old mixed terrier that for the past few months started having seizures. The vet lab reports did not indicate seizures were due to tick bites and all tests came back normal. After being prescribed Phenobarbital and taking it for two months, the symptoms did not improve. Two weeks ago, he started to not eat and became even more lethargic. He died soon after and I can't help but wonder if this product Purina Beneful is responsible. By recent stories I have read, I believe this product killed him.

My husband purchased a bag of Beneful at a local home improvement store on Sunday, 1/13. I fed it to our 8-year old Pomeranian and 1.5 year old Chiweenie. The Chiweenie didn't eat much of it, but the Pom ate normally. That night, the Pom had large amounts of stool including diarrhea. Dogs get that sometimes, so I didn't think anything of it. Then he had it again for the next 2 nights. I found the article regarding the Beneful dry food on 1/16, and I immediately got different food. The dog was fine last night and today. We have used Beneful before with no adverse reactions. So, either they changed ingredients or an ingredient was contaminated.

I have been feeding Beneful Healthy weight Formula to my two dogs for 6+ years now and never had a problem. I chose this product because of the reviews and the trusted (?) company Purina. Recently, my Basenji Sadie started vomiting. She stopped eating almost entirely. (This girl loved to eat, would fall on her food and try to steal what she could from our other dog, Skip a Chow mix). She started drinking and urinating excessively (for her) and had couple of accidents in the house. She's ten now and hasn't since she was house broken. This went on for two weeks or so. I took her to the vet as this was something that was not getting better and the weight loss had become quite evident. After approximately $800 of tests, it was determined that she had liver failure. All of her enzymes were excessively high; one so high it could not be measured. I was told she may not make it. We would put her on some meds to improve liver function and hope for the best.

In September 2012, our 7-year-old Lab Bella, who has been eating Beneful all her life, suddenly became lethargic, complacent and just not herself. She was walking into walls, falling down steps and would bury her nose in your leg. She didn't want to eat and drank excessively and would miss the water bowl like she couldn't see it. Just a few days after noticing the change, we took her to her veterinarian. They ran all kinds of blood work and tests. They put her on antibiotics and steroids to try and save her because she was declining rapidly. We spent thousands of dollars and shed many tears only to find out that she had developed this liver disease, out of the blue, that was poisoning her brain. All the while we kept feeding her the Beneful.

I bought a small bag of Beneful dog food because we were out of our regular food; just to get by for a couple of days until my husband could buy the usual food at the local feed store. Our 3-year-old German Shepherd died unexpectedly and we were racking our brains trying to figure out what happened to our precious dog. I want to know why this product has not been recalled?

I just heard about the Purina Beneful food being the cause of seizures, kidney failure, weight loss, vomiting,diarrhea and sometimes death. I was appalled to hear that this has been ongoing since October 2012. One of my dogs has lost weight, is vomiting and has diarrhea. She is going to the vet and I will be sure to let them know that I had been feeding her Beneful Playful Life. To think that the food I am feeding my beloved pet could have harmed her, is making me furious! I never buy food or treats from China because they have been tainted in the past. Who would have thought an American company would be so neglectful as to leave food that can harm our pets, on store shelves? Purina, shame on you! Recall this crap now!

About 6 months ago, I introduced Beneful healthy weight dry dog food to my 8-year-old terrier mix. At first, very few signs of problems. She started getting sick after just a few weeks. We took her to the vet and they said that it is most likely not the food. After 3 months went by, we noticed our dog's hair falling out in clumps. She started vomiting every other day and not acting normal. About a month later, we took her back to the vet and they did blood work. The blood work found that she was having kidney failure. The vet prescribed an antibiotic and IV fluids. She then became better for about a week, then suddenly became ill again. Symptoms included vomiting, shaking, poor appetite, excessive water intake, lethargic and hair falling out. A few day later and $1,100.00, we decided to put our amazing loving dog to sleep. If you are feeding your dog Beneful products, beware!

We ran out of our dog's usual brand, Natural Choice Lamb and Rice that we purchase at Petco which is a 45-minute drive for us. So we purchased a bag of Beneful. This wasn't the first time they ate Beneful but they acted like they didn't really want it. I thought they were being picky. All four of our dogs have had issues with vomiting and loose stools (dark stools, almost black) and darker urine. I thought our Pomchi had a seizure and stopped breathing one night. We finally got to Petco and bought their regular dog food. The health issues seem to be letting up. We are done with Purina. After the issues with Waggin Tails, now this. If our dogs' symptoms continue, we will take legal action. They are our babies.

My dad and I switched to Beneful 5 months ago. My dad mentioned that his dog wouldn't eat a few times in the morning, which had never happened to him. He is very health conscious with his dogs. I also found vomit once in the backyard of his house. Keep in mind, we just saw the story on MSN and it all clicked. Now to the more serious issue. My dog is eating the Beneful as well - the prepackaged meals in the containers. My dog has puked up the Beneful 4 or 5 times. He has also puked bile a few times and eats grass every now and then. I just tacked this up to a few unlucky random events until I saw this article. This has never happened before with other dog foods. The days that he puked, he would not eat at all that day. 4 or 5 times is quite a bit in 6 months, but some dogs puke every now and then so I thought nothing of it.

On December 30, 2012, my 8-year-old Labradoodle, Butters, stopped eating and vomited a couple times but otherwise was acting fairly normal. He had been eating Beneful for a few months, then switched to Diamond Chicken and Rice but the Diamond appeared to be causing itching so I had just changed him back to Beneful Healthy Weight since he was a few pounds overweight. We were planning to drive south the next day and, despite reservations about traveling when he wasn't feeling well, decided to make the trip. During the 14+ hour drive, he refused to eat but drank large amounts of water and urinated large amounts of dark urine as well.

I recently discovered the numerous complaints of dog illnesses and deaths surrounding this brand food. My dog recently and unexpectedly died. After being forwarded an article regarding this brand food and researching the complaints regarding Purina Beneful, I have strong reason to believe my dog passed away as result of this toxic food. My dog experienced several symptoms prior to her death, which seem very closely matched up with reported symptoms. I do not understand how a company can be so irresponsible to not place a recall on its food after so many consumer complaints. My dog was always a healthy and vibrant dog. Purina is acting negligent with regards to its Purina Beneful foods. This food must be taken off the shelves. I have lost my best friend, protector, joy and love in my life because of Purina's corporate irresponsibility and negligence.

I just watched my normally healthy 3 year old dog have a seizure. He's also been eating less, excessive water drinking, and vomiting. He’s been exclusively eating Beneful Healthy Bites for over a year now. He never had a problem until just recently. I will be switching foods. I don't know if it's related or not, but I'm not taking a chance.

Our 2 labs used to eat Beneful until one started getting sick with frequent vomiting and diarrhea. It should be noted that corn mash is the #1 ingredient and corn in the US has been heavily, genetically modified over the past few years. I'm not an expert in this field, but think there could possibly be a connection. To those who have lost a pet that was fed Beneful, you may just want to seek legal advice. No, I'm not a lawyer either. Just a concerned pet owner.

On Thanksgiving Day, I had to put my 18lbs foxypoo to sleep because he had been bloated. I had him at the vet twice and they couldn't find the reason. I have tried to find out what happened to a very healthy and active dog like Frankie. I feel like I know the reason why he got so sick. I lost my best friend and I thought I was feeding him something that was good for him. Shame on Purina for putting something the equivalent to antifreeze in the food. Now I can cry my eyes out over the loss of my little friend Frankie. All that's left of him is a little box of his ashes. Purina is to blame. Please do something about this, for me and Frankie.

I bought Beneful Original on January 3rd, opened and fed my dog this food on January 9th and 10th. On the 11th, she experienced severe diarrhea and vomiting for two days and would not take water. Fortunately, I took her off the food after the second day and put her on very small portions of rice and chicken. Symptoms remained for another day and a half but now are hopefully under control. This bag is going back to the store for a full refund. Since I have purchased this product before with no adverse issues, I am wondering what has changed. No more Beneful for my pup.

I have fed Beneful to our 7-year-old Pekingese for several years and didn't have a problem. However, for about the last 4-5 weeks, he has been having lots of accidents in the house and drinking lots of water. I find myself refilling his water bowl frequently, but hadn't thought much about it until I read about the recent problems experienced by dog owners and Beneful. He has also thrown up. Since he is not an outdoor dog and is on a leash during his potty times, I wasn't worried that he had gotten into something bad. I just assumed it wasn't something serious. Now I am going to have him checked out asap.

My 2-year old German Shepherd crossbred with Japanese Akita recently passed after switching to Beneful. We had to have her put down due to a serious none savable case of bloat. She was a very healthy dog till we switched to Beneful. It was not expensive and she liked it. After a few months, she became very ill, gray oily stools, gassy and runny stool. Vomiting started the day we put her down. After a trip to the vet, we found out she wasn't digesting food properly so we switched food to an expensive duck blend. The runny stools had stopped but sadly we were too late with the food switch and she had gotten bloated. We went to the vet asap, but the vet had said this was a rare case and had killed 75% of her intestines already in a matter of 10 minutes. My beautiful healthy baby girl had to be put down. There was only a 5% chance of survival during surgery and a 15% recovery chance afterwards. After reading all these other statements I now wonder if this food is what caused my dog to become deathly ill. If so, I too am interested in suing. This is terrible for all these wonderful pets to be killed by something meant to help them survive.

Propylene Glycol - Beneful has this in its ingredients, as well as many snacks and other dog foods. This stuff is used in antifreeze. Why is it being put in our food and our dogs? It's lethal and this needs to stop!

After Christmas, my beautiful healthy 5-year-old Golden Labrador fell sick. He began by breaking into shivers for about a week and then around New Year's day, he got really sick and started to go into kidney failure. I had to put him to sleep on January 4th, and the vet said the blood work, and from his experience, it looked like antifreeze poisoning. Only my dog was a very loving and loyal inside dog. I chose to feed him the top of the line most expensive dog food for his health, and his stomach always came before mine if I was broke and needing. This gives me some closure but I'm sick and disgusted. Do not feed your dogs this food or stop feeding them this food immediately.

My 5-year-old Cairn terrier developed an abscess in her anal gland which burst within 2 weeks of changing to Beneful dog food. The vet said she had no liquid in her anal glands, just solids. I don't know if this is related to the food or not, but thanks to everyone that wrote in. No more Beneful for her; it is better to play it safe.

My 8-year-old Lab mix has never been sick a day in her life. In September, she was not eating and was urinating excessively (as if she couldn't empty her bladder completely) and very lethargic. 2 rounds of antibiotics, multiple tests to make sure her organs weren't failing and lots of dollars later, she was diagnosed with a "raging" bladder infection. She seemed to be better, but in the last few weeks she has been showing the same symptoms. I'm wondering if it is related to her food. Needless to say, better safe than sorry! I am switching her to another brand today.

After opening a new bag of Beneful food, my two Shiba Inus (a 3-year-old and an 11-month) became very, very ill. They both had diarrhea everywhere. I took them to the local emergency animal hospital. They had to get an IV and tons of test and meds, $700+ in medical bills. The findings were there were no parasites. The only thing that was new was the Beneful Dry Food. The doctor told me to throw away the food. Since they haven't eaten the food, they are getting better. This food needs to be recalled immediately!

I too have had the same exact problem with Beneful dog food. I have called the customer service line and got the same ** that others have gotten. It is not Beneful; it must be something else. My issue started back on Wednesday before Thanksgiving. I have a 7lb Chihuahua and a 85lb Doberman. On that Wednesday at 9:00AM, my chi started having a violent seizure. It lasted a good 5 minutes. I did not freak out immediately because I am in the health field and sometimes, dogs get into things and so on. Well at 1:00PM, bam! Another even more violent seizure that lasted about 7 minutes this time. This time, we jumped in the car with him and took him to the vet. Since it was the day before the holiday, the vet clinic was closing but I was able to talk to the doctor on the phone. He advised me on what to do. OK, I gave him 2mg of Valium and back home we went.

My two year old shepherd mix was full of life on New Year’s Eve. By January 3rd, she was dead from some "environmental source". I had purchased a bag of Beneful Dry Dog Food on Christmas Eve. We fed her from the bag exclusively. On January 2nd, she became lethargic. By the time she saw the vet on Jan 3rd, she was having difficulty breathing. She died at the doctor's office. The vet said it was an environmental cause but was very vague as to how a completely healthy young dog could decline so rapidly. I can only attribute this strange occurrence to having ingested Beneful Dog Food.

My healthy 7-year-old Lab got very sick last fall. He was eating Beneful dry food. He just stopped eating one day and then started vomiting and had uncontrollable diarrhea. He was lethargic and we took him to the vet the next day to get him checked out. The blood work showed very high liver enzymes. It was several days before he got better but would not touch his Beneful. He is a very healthy dog and has not been to the vet for any illnesses. We switched to another brand and he has been fine ever since. Honestly, I always wondered what happened to him and after reading the testimonials about possibly Beneful causing problems, I am thinking this could be the same issue with our Sammy.

We were giving my dog the regular Beneful dog food for two months. I had noticed she had been vomiting and was losing her appetite. We took her in to the vet where she was kept for dehydration and stomach issues. The vet still does not know what was causing this, even after surgery. We have switched to Purina dog food and neither of my dogs have had any more problems.

My dog is 2 years old and has been on Beneful (bag food, chicken and rice, lamb and rice, beef, etc). The symptoms I noticed with him were vomiting; white foaming around the mouth; loose and at times, extremely smelly stools. Sometimes the vomiting is just a foamy white substance. I have stains on a dark brown carpet from his vomiting that a commercial carpet cleaner has been unable to remove. I attributed it to oh maybe he ate something outside while being walked, or maybe the food in the bag was old and expired. I also recalled a couple of months ago, I came across a patch on his back where the hair was gone and looks as if it had been removed via wax. My dog has regular doctor visits and yesterday, he had blood work done. I have called his vet to check specifically for the condition of his liver. I am sad for everyone who have lost their pets, but extremely grateful to hopefully have found this information in time to save mines. Purina products are gone from this house.

We started using Beneful in the summer of 2012 after using Nutro from October 2011 (when we got the dog) through 06/2012. After a month or so on Beneful, my 1 year old black lab started having grand mal seizures lasting 1-3 minutes, and coming about every 12-17 days. We consulted with the vet who told us that we could start on Phenobarb and start a battery of tests. We opted not to start the meds and instead looked for toxins in the environment. Was he getting into something? Was he allergic to something? It was just so odd that these appeared out of nowhere and without warning.

My miniature schnauzer has been dealing blood in her urine since December 2012 and accidents in the house which never happened. She has been on different antibiotics, numerous injections and the vet changed her food. She was eating Beneful Playful for numerous years. Why are they still selling Beneful? My pet is a member of my family and I would not feed my child a food in question, so why my pet?

I have a 6-year-old English Bulldog and a 4-year-old Rottweiler. Both have been on Beneful. I got up one morning a month or so ago to both dogs vomiting, diarrhea with blood, and no energy. I went back and forth to vets, finally getting them on antibiotics and it was a bacterial infection caused by the food. As soon as I stopped feeding them the food and getting them on boiled rice and boiled hamburger, their symptoms improved. I kept them on that for a week and giving them their meds. Thankfully, both of them recovered. But it was a week of them both so sick. I have put them on Wellness and they are doing wonderful - no skin issues, no getting sick. I will never feed Purina to my animals again. My two co-workers both fed Beneful to their dogs and both of their dogs also got sick. They too have switched.

I lost my 5-year old, 9 pound, toy fox terrier, 6 years ago from pancreatitis. It was during the time of the 'dog food scare' when several products were being removed from the shelves. My doggies were eating the dry Beneful at that time, which was not on the list of pet foods to be concerned about (I double checked!). Nicky was always healthy and active, and as a responsible dog owner, I was up-to-date on all of his vaccines. But he came down sick very quickly, lethargic, not eating or drinking, and I thought perhaps he just had a flu bug if there is such a thing for doggies. I took him to our vet on the second day of having the symptoms since he was not improving, having no idea how serious his illness was. That morning, he went into a coma and passed. I had our vet confirm her suspicions via an autopsy and it was, in fact, his pancreas.

My dog (3-year-old poodle) fell very ill during December 2012. He was lethargic, so I carried him outside to use the bathroom. He squatted and buckets of blood poured out of his behind. I come to find out that his body was sloughing off his intestinal system. He has intestinitis, pancreatitis, and an inflamed liver. His red blood cells were through the roof (his white blood cells were normal). The vet said that either the intestines, liver, or pancreas became inflamed and then it spread to the other two. The liver took the longest to heal. He has eaten nothing but Beneful for the last year (Fiesta blend). Hopefully it's a coincidence that he was eating Beneful, and that's not what almost killed him; however, I'm not willing to risk my dog's life by continuing to use this brand of dog food.

I have been feeding my dog with Beneful for over a year and a half now. He has a very weak stomach thus, gets no table food, only dog food. Here in the past few months, he has been very indifferent with his food. He will let it sit a while (which is not like him) and sometimes not eating at all. Lately, I have noticed that he has had very bad gas and just a few days ago, was vomiting. I think I will try a new food and believe Beneful could be to blame. :(

My 6-year-old Bichon/Cairn mix has always eaten Beneful and has always been healthy with no medical problems. We bought a new bag of Healthy Weight from Walmart around Christmas (22931085 2047L08 October 2013). She has been plagued with vomiting since opening the bag. We have been trying to figure out what is causing the vomiting which happens after she eats her food and continues as just bile. I am now reading that this problem is not just isolated to my pet but is widespread for pets consuming Beneful products. In addition, I have noted that Beneful has been associated with pet illness due to mold in 2007. I am extremely angry that you, as a company, have taken no action to notify pet owners of the widespread complaints or to reasonably address this matter. I will no longer be purchasing or feeding my pets any Purina products until this issue is addressed with more than lip service telling owners how great your product is. I will also be arranging to have the food tested whether through our vet, the ASPCA, or any other independent organization. I am very disappointed in your attitude toward these concerns.

I've been feeding my 7-year-old Shepherd/Husky mix Purina products (mainly Beneful Healthy Weight) for several years. In the past few months, he began to exude a bad smell and needed a grooming session (more frequent than normal). The groomer stated he appeared to have a food allergy and she needed to give him a skin treatment (black flecks on his skin). She also stated to switch him to a dog food that was free of corn and had meat as the main ingredient. I heeded her advice and he has been doing much better. No more corn-filled Beneful Healthy Weight for him! I find it ironic he had issues with Beneful around the same time as so many others. I can only hope there is no internal damage.

My mother has a Silky Terrier that almost died after eating this food. In June, Scrappi had her usual check-up with her vet and my mother was told that she was in perfect health. In July, my mother had to rush her to the vet. She was vomiting, had severe diarrhea, was very lethargic, constantly thirsty, refused to go near her food, and was not steady on her feet. After rounds of tests, scans, medications, etc, it was determined that she now has pancreatitis. My mom is doing everything she can to get her healthy again but the reality is, she'll never be the way she was again. Too much damage has been done to her little body and my mother is heartbroken. Scrappi went from a 10lb, healthy, rambunctious dog to a 4lb dog that does as little as possible now. Also, according to the vet, this is not the first case she has had come into her office. The common factor? Beneful! Something needs to be done! When my mother called Purina to tell them what was going on and what the vet had said, Purina told her, "Really? This is the first we've heard about anything like this. We'll send you some coupons to try another bag."

A week ago, my 11-year old German Shepherd became extremely sick. She began vomiting excessively and couldn't keep anything down even water, which was difficult as she became very thirsty. I took her to the vet after 2 days of this. The vet believes she had a bacterial infection, high fever, and dehydration. He immediately put her on antibiotics and fluids for dehydration. He also put her on a bland diet of medical soft food. She is getting better each day, and soon will be back to the dog park. When I was reading the other complaints, they sound so familiar. My heart breaks for those who lost their precious family members.

I just lost my 9 year rottie boxer mix last week. She was a perfectly happy and healthy girl until 2 days before Christmas. She has been eating Beneful Healthy Radiance for the past two years. On December 23, we opened a new bag of Beneful Healthy Radiance and fed it to her and her brother. Within 2 days, she was acting very strange. She wouldn't eat, drank water like there was no tomorrow and threw up at least 7 times a day. It was filled with mucus and bile. I tried feeding her rice and beef and she wouldn't even eat that. All she would do was lay around and look sad. It was heart breaking. On the third day, she started with a stuffy nose and felt warm to touch.

I almost became physically ill after a friend sent me a link about the Beneful issues. My previously healthy Sheltie died less than 5 days after starting a new bag of Beneful. I must say, however, that my dog has exclusively eaten Beneful for the majority of her life. The day after she began eating from the new bag, she exhibited excessive thirst and she did not want to walk as far as usual. Within 3 days, she was having trouble breathing and did not want to walk at all. A visit to the vet and blood work showed a lung infection, but definitely something seriously wrong with her liver. The vet wanted to get the infection under control before perusing and treating any liver issue. My dog died the next day and the vet was completely at a loss as to why she died. Could it be that there was a very bad and lethal batch of this food? It saddens me beyond words that this dog food may have contributed to the death of a previously healthy dog.

My dog became very ill with weight loss, hot spots, lethargic, watering eyes and itching until she would bleed. We took her to the vet, switched her food and now she's doing much better. The vet was not sure what it was but thought maybe allergies. We switched her food and gave her allergy medication. At her worst, we thought we were going to lose her. After reading about other dogs becoming very ill and some dying, I can't help but wonder if it's connected to the other complaints.

I bought a bag of Beneful about 1-2 months ago and found it full of a grain fungus (looks like threads mixed in with the food). I called Purina. They told me what it was and sent me a coupon for another bag. They also told me to remove the bag from my house right away. So, this time I bought Purina One with the coupon, and I found the same problem with the added bonus of little grubs in the food. This seems to tie in with other complaints I saw on this site about moths in the bag. They were purchased from different chains, so the problem seems to be with Purina and not the store's storage. Fortunately, I recognized the problem before giving it to my dog. I have not bought any Purina products since.

We have been feeding one of our dogs Beneful for a few years now (our other dog is on a special food due to urinary stones). We noticed that she was only eating about 1/2 of a serving and all of her Cesar (1/4 cup only). Since she is already little (15 lbs.), we cut back on the wet food, hoping to encourage her to eat more dry food. No luck. Beginning of December, we called our vet and switched her to Purina Pro Plan. She is now eating her full 1/2 cup of dry food. Hope this is only a problem with Beneful!

We are trying to figure out what is wrong with our dog. She suddenly fell ill, stopped eating or drinking. She's weak. I took her to the vets, and it is unexplained without further tests. He gave her two antibiotic injections in hopes that they would work and she would be well enough to regain appetite, etc. She has been exclusively eating Beneful.

I have fed my dog that is a Lab mix Beneful just recently and she became sick to her stomach, throwing up and diarrhea which we said enough because we didn't want to chance it. We ended up switching her food to Purina Little Bites which is making her sick too. I am scared. My dog is eleven years old and if something happens to her because of their dog foods not being recalled, I will sue.This isn't right. I read all the complaints and they all say the same thing or worse.

My dog & my brother's Husky got sick from Beneful. I noticed right away when my dog ate some of the Husky's food while he was visiting. My dog normally eats Nutro Natural Choice with no health problems. Within hours of eating Beneful, she started having runny stools, gas, vomiting, peeing in the house, & excessive drinking. His dog was sick for weeks with runny stools, vomiting, peeing in the house, excessive drinking, & lethargy. My brother had continued feeding his dog the food after he returned to his home. He had to take him to the vet, too. I have warned him about the complaints I read about Beneful so he would switch food. I still have the bag with food if it needs testing.

I had 4 Doxies, 3 senior Minis and 1 two-year-old Tweenie. I'd been feeding the 3 seniors Purina One Vibrant Maturity 7+ Senior Formula and the younger one Beneful Playful Life. One of my little ones developed sudden kidney failure about 2 months ago. One day she didn't finish her food; next day she wouldn't eat it. I didn't worry too much because sometimes dogs don't eat. (I'm a long-time dog mom.) But then she began vomiting. Again, I didn't worry a lot because sometimes dogs vomit. I didn't offer Purina One again; rather I tried some baby rice cereal. She only ate a little. I waited a few hours then tried a small bit of very high-end wet food, and she still wouldn't eat. And she vomited again, twice. Then I found her hiding behind a pillow on the bed, which she had urinated all over, something she had never done before. In fact, the only time any of my dogs have had accidents on the bed is when they get very old and senile. My little Pie was only 9 years old. My dogs have a doggie door so they can go out whenever they want, plus I always have a pad on the floor near the door because doxies can be very fussy about going out in the rain or snow.

I had not heard of any issues with Beneful dog food until I saw a friend's post on Facebook tonight. I immediately read the short article and am sure that Purina Beneful killed my dog just two months ago. Wylie was a 110 pound wolf/shepherd/malamute mix that I rescued in Alabama 2 years ago. He and my Jack Russell terrier had been getting fed Purina Little Bites most of the time and Beneful occasionally when my local grocery store was out of the Little Bites. A few days before Thanksgiving, we opened a new bag of Beneful and began feeding it to both dogs. They both acted normally until Wylie suddenly fell ill on Thanksgiving day. He was fine when I played with him at 10:30 in the morning. But when he came in from playing outside at around noon, I knew he wouldn't make it much longer.

I fed my Lab Beneful Healthy Weight to keep his weight down. He used to eat grass and throw up, but it wasn’t constant so I didn't think much of it. Then in October 2012, he started vomiting more consistently and was not eating his food - which for a lab is definitely not normal. I brought him to the vet, and the only thing they noticed wrong was his liver values were sky high. We put on bland diet, Pepcid, liver enzymes, antibiotics, etc. A few days later, he was so week and dehydrated, we brought him back to the vet. No one had a clue; but since he was an older dog, they assumed that maybe that was what was going on.

I fed my four-pound Chihuahua Beneful, and she got pancreatitis and almost died. She had to be admitted into the ER vet. She had not eaten anything except her dog food so this has to be a factor in her sickness.

My dogs were itching, getting bare patches, licking paws, etc. so I decided to take them off of Purina One Lamb and Rice - hoping that Beneful was a good second choice. I started seeing vomit spots in my carpet after I switched but didn't put two and two together. I couldn't figure out which dog was sick. By the time I found out it was my little baby, it was too late. He had begun to dehydrate, wouldn't eat, and finally, we caught him vomiting. Then I knew for sure it was him. Long story short, he died three days later of pancreatitis, kidney failure and renal failure. I was also told that his bowels were full of bad bacteria. I changed their food around the second week of December to Beneful and he died three weeks later.

One night, my dog began drinking water excessively. I noticed in the morning that his stomach was bloated, round and hard like a basketball. He was hunched over when I got him to walk, which he didn't want to do. He was shaking and clearly in pain. The vet had me watch him, massage his stomach, give him Mylicon Drops every half hour, and if there was even the slightest negative change, to rush him to ER immediately because bloat can be fatal to dogs. He came out of it and I continued to feed a grain-free wet food diet with pumpkin in very small multiple portions for a few days, until the bloating went down and he was acting more normally. He still drank far more than he used to though.

My dog was becoming picky with his food. He is a 5-year-old lab and on the heavier side. We started feeding him Beneful Healthy Weight to cut back. We noticed scabs on his belly (our vet said heat scabs, so we said OK), and then he started vomiting more often. He also had no energy to go outside and didn’t seem all around happy. One day I read a bad review about Beneful, and we switched him to Merrick Grain Free food because we thought he was allergic to the corn or grains. Well, needless to say, now he’s scab free and hasn’t vomited in months. He’s more energetic and seems all around happy.

My 5-month-old puppy was eating Beneful puppy food. I knew it wasn't the healthiest choices. I had bought Eukanuba and my puppy wouldn't eat it. If he did eat it, he would not finish his food. I bought the Beneful without having any experience with it. My puppy liked it; he would finish his bowl. Halfway through the second bag, he then began to not finish that food. One morning he didn't wake up. I went to his cage and he was unresponsive. I took him to the vet immediately. His blood sugar was 21. He was in liver failure. He died the next day. We will never know what caused the liver failure, but just reading this article makes me concerned.

I purchased a new bag of Beneful healthy weight food. On the second day of feeding from that bag, he vomited after his morning feeding. I'm so glad I was at home all day as I then could see he wasn't very energetic after that. Then all he wanted to do was drink water (wouldn't want to dehydrate). By very early the next morning, I called an emergency number for a vet as he was very weak after drinking and bringing the water back up on an off. Before they could meet us there to see him, he passed. That was 24 hours from the time he showed any sign of not feeling well. I called Purina so that it was on record. I thought possibly it could have been a batch of food that should be recalled. I was told nothing has changed with the formula. At that point, I just wanted to prevent someone else going through that. This occurred in October 2012. A friend who volunteers at an animal shelter led me to this link.

I was on vacation when I purchased Beneful dog food. The dog has had just a little added to her food, just a little extra. Today she was vomiting and diarrhea all over the house. This is a bad dog food. Stop feeding your pets this food as soon as possible. I’m back to Eukanuba; I never had a problem with that brand. My dogs that eat Eukanuba live to at least 14 years old.

A consumer review from this site was put in our local newspaper yesterday, and I just read it from a friend on Facebook. I am extremely concerned because my beloved Pitbull mix has eaten Purina Beneful since he was able to start eating hard food. After reading all of these horrible responses, I am calling my veterinarian first thing tomorrow morning and scheduling an appointment for a checkup and changing his dog food immediately. Shame on Purina, and I sincerely hope they go out of business. I will definitely be doing my part in telling every single person I know about this.

On the 19th of December 2012, my 10-month-old dog, Lulu, died suddenly and unexpectedly. On the 24th of December, her older sister, Leela (14 months old), died also. After stumbling across an article on a friend's Facebook page, I am positive that Purina Beneful is what killed my dogs. They had been eating it for almost a week when they both died. Thankfully, I have switched my current dogs' food brand and they seem to be fine but I am very sad to say I will never get the image out of my head of my dogs' deaths. They both were very happy and seemed fine on the days they had died. They were more than animals. They were my family! The FDA needs to ban Purina before more people have to experience what others and myself have gone through!

I have 5 dogs and 3 became really ill when I switched to Beneful. The other two dogs are on a special diet due to allergy and did not become ill. One of the dogs that became ill is a service dog and extremely picky; gobbled the food up and within a few hours, was barfing up his insides and was listless for days. The other two did not eat as much and were not as ill and bounced back more quickly. The service dog was in excellent health prior to this incident and it has been a challenge the last few weeks to get him back up to par to have him out working again. This all began on November 26, 2012.

About a year ago, we encountered the mist of a horrible nightmare when we realized our closets were infested with moths chewing through everything expensive we had in there. Nothing cheap, no cashmere, wool, organic cotton, you name it. We were infested with a moth colony that had taken over our house. I was horrified and nearly went crazy throwing out thousands of dollars in clothes. I took everything out of the closet, etc; you get the picture. Pesticide guy was sure that it had originated in the pantry but I was sure I hadn't seen anything in there.

My husband and I would like to express our condolences to all those who have lost their loved ones and prayers to those that are suffering. We lost our "little man," Cruise this morning, diagnosed with liver failure. We always fed him Science Diet small bites, and lately because of dental issues, we were adding water to soften the nuggets. I had made a choice on December 17th to change to a softer food that still had substance to help prevent tartar buildup; I chose Beneful. He was eating the Beneful up until December 24th, when he started vomiting and had very loose bowels. We immediately admitted him into the Animal Emergency Center with a temperature of 104.

My friend decided to switch her 5-month-old pit mix puppy to this food. She ate it for breakfast on Dec 23. She went outside and played then came back in and just laid on the floor for the rest of the day. She refused her dinner that night and the next morning. We tried chicken soup around noon, and she would not touch it. She died at 8:30 on Dec 24, 2012. She was a wonderful puppy, very healthy and active until she ate this food. Please help stop the deaths of other animals.

I have an eight-year-old Golden Retriever Tiger. She is generally in good health. She loves to eat and has gained some weight. I have been purchasing Purina products for years. I decided to try the Beneful Playful Life. This is the 1st time my dog refused to keep eating so much. She also started looking sad and lethargic all of the time. She started drinking a ton of water, excessive amounts of water. Then last night, she stopped touching the food altogether. I put out a bowl of my cat's food and she gobbled it down. I am taking her to the vet this morning. I thought she may have been bitten or something. Only after seeing these posts I am sure it was the food. I am going to take the rest to the vet to see if they know why this might be making these poor dogs ill. They say Golden Retrievers are really smart dogs, so I am glad she helped me figure it out.

Daisy, an 8-year old mutt, woke up on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 6:00AM. She ate a full bowl of Beneful and went straight into my room, and vomited. She continued to vomit all day until there was nothing left but bile. She didn't eat much for the next week. Wednesday, Nov. 14, she vomited all day (4-5 times). Empty tummy and bile. We tried Science Diet, but she still didn't eat for a week. We took her to the vet on Wednesday, Nov. 21. She had fever, high WBC, high neutrophils (bacterial) and high alkaline phos (possibly liver). We went home with antibiotic, a prescription stomach med and a $227 bill. Saturday, Nov. 24, she was deathly ill. We could feel her raging fever and she was lethargic. She wouldn't even drink water from her bowl. We drizzled water into her mouth with a pipette and let her lick a wet wash cloth. I removed her collar, stopped giving meds and told the kids to love on her today. She was going fast.

I have been feeding my dog, a 4-year old, 10 lb. Havanese, Purina Beneful dog food for over the past year. I gave her the original variety initially, and then switched her to Healthy Fiesta. Approximately, three weeks ago, I purchased another bag of Healthy Fiesta Beneful dog food from Target (11160 Veirs Mill Road Wheaton, MD 20902); 10 lb bag, best by: Aug 2013, Lot #: 224010850246L09; QC: 017800141956. I began noticing changes in my dog’s behavior after opening the new bag and feeding it to her. During the course of the week she was on the new bag of dog food, she was listless, barely eating her food, and vomited twice on Friday, November 16th, 2012.

I just bought Beneful Playful Life as a change for my dog. She ate it every night for 3 days. On the 3rd night, she ate as usual, but a couple of hours later she began to vomit a lot and it was only the dog food that came up (put a glove on and inspected it to make sure she didn’t get into anything she shouldn’t have). She continued that night until it was only dry heaves. I looked on this website and found over 200 of you with similar problems with Beneful. We stopped feeding it immediately and I went to the FDA website and submitted a report about the food. You all should do the same!

November 30, 2012, our Siberian Husky, who is normally so playful, suddenly showed signs of lethargy on November 21, 2012. She has been on Beneful Dry Dog Food for a few months now. In early November, she had a bald spot on her leg and it was red. We took her to the vet, and it was treated it with a topical ointment but no real explanation. Then we started to notice that the one step into the house was suddenly a slight problem, and she started to slip while even walking on level floors every now and then. I attributed it to her always rushing around, hopping and bouncing her body around, since she is normally very active. Then she started to get mopey, and I thought maybe she had a stomach virus because she stopped eating and had diarrhea and threw up some bile. She would eat a bit and throw it up, and then she started drinking water profusely. She refused to eat anything, even if it was hand-fed to her. I couldn't get her to eat a scrambled egg, a piece of American cheese...nothing.

I have a 6-year-old Chihuahua/Daschund hound mix. She was perfectly healthy, actually at one point overweight at a whopping 8 1/2 pounds. One and a half years ago, I decided to switch up her dog food because the Beneful looked appealing. The first time she ate it, she devoured it but three days later, she started vomiting with blood in her stool and diarrhea. She was treated for inflamed bowels and GI issues and we have been dealing with it ever since, vacillating between boiled chicken and rice and Rx dog food.

I've been feeding my beautiful 2-year old black Lab Beneful since he was 8 weeks old. He always seemed to have dry skin and dandruff. Around six months old, he started developing skin irritations, sores, lesions, and hard dry patches of skin on his elbows. I tried everything the vet prescribed and then some. All the while, he had a great appetite, never refused his food. A few months later, he started having episodes where he would lose control of his hind legs. I thought maybe he was fetching things to hard.

I opened a new bag of Beneful this morning, and my dog gobbled it up. I came home from work, and he's definitely not feeling well. I tried feeding him this evening and he wouldn't go near it. I've even tried a little hand feeding and he spits it out. I'm buying a new bag of food, first thing, and throwing this out. A new brand - any recommendations?

My Golden Retriever, who will be 8 years old on November 28, got sick on November 5, 2012. She had diarrhea and was vomiting. I took her to the vet on the 9th, they gave her antibiotics and acid controller. And they put her on a bland diet of rice and chicken she was starting to do better. So, I put her back on her dog food which is Beneful. She would not eat it, so I mixed the rice and chicken in and she ate it and got sick again. I stopped the dog food now and I'm feeding her the rice and chicken, until I know all is better - then I'm changing her food to a natural dog food. I hope that will do the trick because my dog, Brook, is a part of my family and I want her to be here for a long time. I hope Beneful will do the right thing and take this poison off the shelves, so no more animals get sick or even worse die!

Not happy with this dog food. My chihuahua's stomach has bloated so much that she can't walk completely normal. She is also unusually hot and unbalanced. This didn't start until we opened up the new bag of food. We are keeping an eye on her and then taking her to the vet and I'm terrified to know what's wrong with her. I am absolutely disgusted at the quality of this product. Is it really that difficult to make a quality and dependable dog food? I know which one my dog will never eat again. Is anyone else's dogs experiencing bloating and fever?

My father purchased a 31.1lbs bag of Beneful original dog food. His 2 year old, very healthy, neutered male Pomeranian became severely ill, was vomiting and lethargic. He took him to an animal hospital where they administered an IV and two stomach meds, and he said he was dehydrated from vomiting. Two days later, his 2 year old cat also became ill (yes, she likes dog food). Today, his 8 month old, healthy Beagle became ill. The only food they have eaten is the Beneful original. Please look into this matter before any more people lose their precious animals.

On October 22, 2012, my 10-year old terrier/labrador mix fell ill. It appeared to be a stroke. The blood work showed massive infection and possible Hepatic Encephalopathy. Poor Keaton, just wandered all over the house, endlessly hitting the wall and getting stuck under chairs. She had almost no cognitive skills. She would not respond to her name. She could barely walk. After 7 days of a special dog food, an antibiotic and milk thistle, she is at 90%. Her sister Buster did not get sick, but Buster would not eat the dog food. She stopped. It sits there and neither will touch it. They are both very happy to eat the low protein KD dog food. Given the time frame, I now wonder did a lot of dogs get sick on this dog food? There are a host of complaints on this page all basically the same and same time frame. I will look into getting the dog food tested.

I am thankful to the other people who wrote in a review about Beneful dog food. You may have saved my dog’s life and I hope I might do the same by adding my own review. I have a five-and-a-half year old Sheltie/Beagle mix. He's beautiful, smart and well-behaved. We have been feeding him Benefuls pretty much his whole life, so when he got sick earlier this week, I didn't think that it could possibly be the dog food. However, we recently opened a new bag. (We purchase the large bags from Sam's Club.) He threw up Sunday after eating his breakfast and Tuesday after eating dinner. He just threw up his undigested food, so I didn't think much of it.

We have a year old chiweenie. She's been eating Beneful for about 6 months. A couple of months ago, she had a bad seizure. Then on Saturday night, she had another and today another. She did throw up a few times. I am convinced now it is the dog food. Nothing else is wrong with her except for being little. I sure wish they would take it off the shelves before it kills another pet. Bad product. I'm shocked.

I have a puggle about a year old. He was on Puppy Chow before Beneful. I've had friends who had good reviews with Beneful, so after my dog nearly died on Ol' Roy, I went with Beneful. I wanted to know if there was a good dog food out there. He became sick after about a month on the Beneful. Not as sick as with the Ol' Roy, however, he was vomiting every other day and had runny stools. He also had ear infections, dry skin, etc. I had no doubt that if we continued with the Beneful we would have killed him. He is currently on 4Health. I will not go by what my friends say anymore, and I will research every single aspect of each food out there.
