Beware of the scam that Banfield Pet Hospital / Pet Smart in Ann Arbor Michigan is pulling. I cancelled our pet wellness plan before we moved away from Ann Arbor because they are not available at our new location. Even if they were available I was not impressed by their incompetence of record keeping - trying to double bill us in the past and different people working there insisting on double vaccinating our dog (when she was just vaccinated) and other weird issues that showed their people were having issues with accurate record keeping & trying to double bill us on many occasions. Our bill was paid in full and I cancelled the service so that no money was owed when we moved far away from Ann Arbor Michigan.
Many months later they started phoning me with pushy demands to send them more money and claims that they never cancelled the pet wellness plan. They continue to phone me with claims that they keep billing us more & more while refusing to acknowledge the plan was cancelled & paid in full many months ago. They are now phoning my work, harassing me and refusing to acknowledge our plan was cancelled & paid in full -- while attempting to scam me into sending them hundreds of dollars for a pet wellness plan that was paid in full long ago just before being cancelled long ago. Beware of these scammers, they waste a ton of time with rude long winded harassing phone calls and office visits that obviously do nothing to stop their scams.

My dog was injured in an accident and needed emergency surgery. The staff at Banfield Pet Hospital were attentive and very caring. Even though they were not able to do his surgery they were able to quickly get us to a hospital that could. They even loaned us their stretcher to transport him safely to the next hospital. Thank you for helping Shadow.

2016 Dr missed 1-2 of the mammary lumpectomy removals, B said they'd put it in the dog's chart: next dental cleaning they'd remove the masses without charge. 2017: teeth ok, cleaning not required. 7/14/2018 wellness visit requested pre-op dental cleaning, spay and mass removals review. Dr said, here were no lumps. Scheduled dental cleaning and spay, "before plan renewed". Non B vet-tech examined dog; found the masses, said dog really didn't need a dental cleaning. 8/19 called B to make sure they scheduled enough surgery time for the mass removals too. They said yes they had, and come at 0815 to discuss with Dr. 8/21, 0815, Dr said she was only scheduled to do a dental cleaning. She read the chart: "dental cleaning, Spay, mass removals". She said she was "not comfortable doing the mass removals" and "spay and dental cleaning could not be done at the same time".
On examination, Dr could not find masses; and suggested my vet-tech friend come to the spay appointment too, or mark the dog prior to surgery. On rescheduling, found the plan had renewed 8/15. Left without further treatment. Called corporate to complain, and cancel plan for this dog. They will call me back in three days. Also called another number to remove my credit card from the account. The account is my daughter's name, they cannot remove my credit card without having her on the phone (even though they can see it is not her credit card). **, not only incompetent Drs, receptionists making appointments, but fraudulent billing?

Because of the superior customer service support I received from a manager at a local hospital, he reached out to corporate and was able to resolve my issue to ensure my contract was cancelled as promised back in February. I wish he could help everyone else, but he's local to AZ. He would make a great customer advocate to corporate based upon his superior listening skills and ability to close the gaps towards resolution. Thank you.

On June 19, 2018, I posted an extensive review on the deceptive practices of Banfield Pet Hospital in continuing to bill me for a plan that I cancelled. I wrote Corporate a letter, spoke by phone with numerous reps at the 800#, yet they continue to leave rude messages on my phone and won't stop calling me. As a senior this is very upsetting and impacting my health. I refuse to answer their calls anymore.

I have been a loyal Banfield customer for 10 years. The service has deteriorated to the point that I am closing my accounts for my three dogs and going to pay out of pocket going forward - Reasons Why: I live in a metropolitan area with 3 Banfields in less than 30 miles from each other. Not ONE of them can see my pet sooner than 2 to 3 weeks out. The excuse always is "We are short Doctors". If you have a semi emergency or concern and want to take advantage of the free visits, again, waste of your time...they never have availability for last minute appointments or give priority to a possibly sick or injured animal. Instead, they send you the very expensive 24 hour emergency care vets.
Tell me, what is the benefit to paying 42 per month per Dog (I have 3) if I can never get a reasonably timed appointment AND Banfield does not make room to see one of pets when I tell them they may be sick and/or injured. Case in point, today - Aug 20th, 2018. I have a dog at home with neck pain and light bleeding from her gums. when I called, Banfield tells me to bring her in on Aug 30th??? Please tell me they are joking?! 10 DAYS to see a vet for an animal that is coming in possibly injured? The receptionist did not care (btw, they all know my name and my pets) and even with that, did not try to assist. So there you have it! They will take your money but you better hope you never need to get in there in a hurry...good luck and keep shopping, there are far better services out there than this joke of a company.

I took my cat to the vet to get his updated vaccinations and he came back with fleas. When I called the animal hospital to try to get it fixed they refused and said I would still have to pay the normal charge even though he got it from them. Fleas are a pain in the ** (as most pet owners know) so I would recommend not going if you plan to keep your animals flea free!

We read SO many bad reviews about Banfield's Wellness plan, but we knew we needed to find a wellness plan to save us money with our new puppy. Our local Banfield had good reviews. (You should check the reviews for YOUR location before deciding on them as your vet.) After doing thorough research, it seems most people are dissatisfied due to the fact that you cannot cancel your plan within your first year. To be clear - you are paying for a service and are essentially being set on a payment plan, NOT a monthly payment to cover everything for that month. You have the option to pay the full amount up front or break up into monthly payments over the next year - which is what most people do.
If your dog dies or if anything happens to where you wish to cancel - you STILL OWE money for services already rendered. We have saved over $1000 in the first 6 months of our puppy's life between vaccines, free unlimited check-ups/visits, 5% discounts, etc. Bills that consistently add up to $150-$300 end up being $0-$50. It WILL save you money and has been great for us. Highly recommend.

Here is our sad story. I just attempted to cancel our dog's wellness plan that we first obtained in July, 2015. They said we could get out if we paid the lesser of their inflated charge, $221 for a single visit this wellness plan year or continue to pay the monthly fee until it satisfies this "obligation." Now let me tell you about this recent visit. We were robocalled to bring our dog in. When we arrived, the receptionist wanted us to leave our dog until it was convenient for the staff to see her. On every single visit in the past, we insisted to stay with our dog during her visit. We left after rescheduling a visit. You would think there would be notes in our dog's file since we have crossed this bridge with every other visit.
Now we enter the room with our dog. The tech tells us what would be done today with us then announced that the Vet would see Bella in the back. Obviously, we said "no way". So, later rather than sooner, we meet another new Vet. The ONLY thing that she did was shoot some fluid up her nose. It was the fastest and simplest exam ever. She asked us where we obtained the dog THEN and when she learned that it was from a private owner/breeder, she asked if it was a "puppy mill"! AND THIS WARRANTS A $221.OO CHARGE. I DON'T THINK SO. I know there will be others who complain about this pompous new Vet. Vote NO on Banfield Wellness Plan.

We have a sheltie and took him to Banfield for a checkup and have been using them ever since. Our groomer noticed a rash on his belly so we took him to Banfield and they said it was nothing. Lo and behold it got worst and we cut most of his hair off. His problems were constant hunger, a lot of water, fatty tumors and weak hind legs. Banfield then sent us to a skin doctor. Make a long story short, our grand-daughter suggested her vet in Rosarito, Mex. Took her only 2 HOURS to tell us our dog has Cushing's disease, gave him a tablet and he was walking okay, but could only give him limited pills as it would affect his liver. Had it been detected earlier he would have been alright by now, we have spent over $3000 at Banfield's. WHAT DO I DO???

I joined this program on the recommendation of a relative. I thought it sounded great to give my two-year-old miniature schnauzer a program that would ensure his well-being as I was concerned with giving him the best care available. On the first visit which was required for a physical, I ended up putting out additional money for exams on top of the monthly payment. When I inquired about flea medication they ended up giving me something besides what I had been giving my dog stating they didn't have it available. This particular internal flea med made horrible blisters on my dogs nose and ears. They recommended a biopsy. I asked if it could be due to the flea meds and they said absolutely not.
Upon doing research I realize this could be a side effect of this internal flea medication. I decided not to go with the biopsy but instead to take him back to my regular vet who confirmed that this was not a serious issue and should resolve itself in a few days. I feel that if I had continued with Banfield they would have ended up killing my dog. I would never recommend them to anybody. On top of everything I ended up with about a $550 bill because of supposedly breaking the contract. I got fleeced.

I have had Banfield for a few years now. This seem to be great in the beginning. Walk-ins were welcomed and I wasn't paying an arm and a leg for service. I find that they have switched tactics. I can't remember the last time I went in there for a routine checkup where they were not trying to charge me for something. Almost as if they force the purchase by "highly suggesting" that you have this item for your pet. Lots of unnecessary pressure to make more purchases. I pay the highest premiums and yet I have to wait a month to be seen only to pay more after the visit for somethings I don't need.
Example: A cone for my dog that comes off that was $20. I have been back and forth with changing premiums because they keep telling me I need the highest one for my dog's medical needs such as to cover the cost of dental cleanings. But after I enroll they tell me they can't do it because her blood levels show it would be unsafe to do it. Now I am stuck with a 1 year contract paying the highest premiums for services I can't get. Well I have cancelled my dog's plan here and will be using local vets that actually care about the well-being of my dog and not just the money for shady service.

When I first purchased this plan for my 8 week old puppy it seemed worth it due to the vet visits having to be every 3 weeks for vaccinations. Now that she's almost 2, I've come to the hard realization that it's a TOTAL SCAM. I tried to cancel my plan last November because I knew the 1 year mark of me signing up for the plan had passed but when I tried to call, they told me it was 3 days past the expiration date and they automatically renew the plan without notifying you! They said I could wait another year, and pay $25 a mo., or I could cancel and pay the fee of what the plan is actually worth aka around $500. Please do not get sucked into this, it's 100% a scam and their vets will do anything to get money from you without actually giving accurate care to your pet.

She’s very calm, knowledgeable and genuine. She took the time out to first assess my chihuahua thoroughly from head to toe, then educate me on her findings. After prescribing her a treatment plan, my chihuahua was much better within two days. The worlds need more veterinarians like Dr. **. I would highly recommend friends and family to Banfield to see Doctor ** and staff. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My pet recently cut herself on her side while playing with her brother. It was about a 4 inch cut so I immediately called Banfield at 5:40 pm to let them know I was coming. The lady on the phone said not to bring her to Altamonte location because the doctor was leaving in 20 minutes. I told the lady that it was 5:40 and you are open till 7 pm and you still can't see us. The lady said that I needed to go to the emergency Vet. I then called the Banfield in Orlando and she said they couldn't take her either because they only had one doctor. They also said to take her to the emergency Vet.
At this point I'm trying to figure why am I paying Banfield 144.00 dollars a month to tell me to go to the emergency vet. This is not the first time that I have run into this type of problem with Banfield. I already set all my Banfield plans to not renew at the end of each of the contracts. Thank God my pet wasn't dying because Banfield sure wouldn't have helped. You take $1728.00 a year just for shots and I had to spend another $660.00 on emergency vet bills. Thanks for nothing Banfield.

This is a total rip off, starts seemingly as a good plan, they make it look as if your pet is fully covered until you try to use it. The only time I took my dog for checkup I still had to pay about $60.00, when she got “fix”, that was the only reason I got the coverage, I still had to pay a $160.00 extra. Do the math $41.95 monthly =$503.40 plus 49.95 membership =553.35. If that was all, it is reasonable. Is a little more than what I have paid at other places to get female dogs spayed but then they hit you with additional $220.00 in my case, so the total is $773.35 to get a dog spayed and to make it worse if you don’t cancel 30 days before the contract expires they get you with another year contract @33.95 for 12 months. The total cost of plan $960.75.

We took our 10 week old puppy to this clinic on 06/30/18 because of him having difficulty breathing and seemed like a cough. The vet stated that she did not see anything of what we were saying as the puppy was excited. She stated that his lungs and breathing sounded fine. He was given his second set of puppy injections and we went home. We returned again on 07/06/18 for the exact same issues but it had progressed. Our puppy was not breathing right, a lot like "gasping" for air. We dropped our puppy off for them to observe him for a bit. They performed some xrays and had state they had to place him on oxygen because he was not breathing well.
About 40/45 minutes after we dropped him off the vet called me and stated that she was concerned about the amount of gas that was in our puppy's stomach and was afraid that it might turn so that she recommended for us to take him to Mission Vet Specialty for it. With no explanation on this so called issue we decided to take him. Not only because we were worried about our puppy but for a second opinion on what was actually wrong. We did not believe this vet at Banfield was right from the beginning. When we arrived at Mission Vet Specialty I gave them the xrays that Banfield took of our puppy and the vet looked at them. Yes our puppy had a gassy stomach but that was far from what was wrong.
Our puppy was suffering from pneumonia and a collapsed lung. These are secondary issues of pneumonia and collapsed lung because of issues with his trachea. The vet and radiologist at Mission Vets Specialty advised us there was nothing that can be done for our puppy. Our puppy passed away that night at Mission Vet Specialty. The vet at Banfield failed to diagnose our puppy's breathing issues, failed to hear his lungs correctly and FAILED to see the pneumonia on the xray that they took. She was just concerned over the gassy stomach than his lungs. Our puppy lost his life because of human error at the hands of the vet at Banfield at 1604/Bandera in San Antonio Texas.

I went to the Banfield in Lady Lake Florida with my 5 month old puppy I had adopted one week prior from a shelter. The shelter required that I go to a veterinary office with in 10 days so PetSmart gave out a coupon book for adopting a shelter dog which has a free Office visit coupon in the booklet. I made an appointment for 5:30 this evening. A girl came in and said she was going to check all the records to make sure that the puppy had everything. I said the dog was just adopted and the shelter did all the vaccinations. They would not release the dog without everything. She said, "We would like you to purchase a wellness plan." I said that I was not interested. She left the room, came back in and said that I should probably get a Lyme disease shot and some other shot I never heard of. Neither of which was applicable toward my dog and his lifestyle. I said I don't feel those shots are needed so she disappeared again for 25 minutes.
I watched her and the veterinary staff including the vet talking through the window of the door from which she exited. There was no crisis that some other dog was badly injured or coming in and a stretcher. For that I would understand the delay but waiting all that time because I didn't jump at buying this scam plan which covers nothing unless you pay through the nose for the expensive plan was not something I was going to do. The basic plan virtually covers nothing. You're throwing your money away purchasing it.
I've been down this road before and never used anything I was paying for monthly. You're better off just to go to the vet and paid the bill if and when your dog ever get sick. I was so furious I got up after waiting 30 minutes and left. They never even called me to apologize or to see why I left which I'm sure was blatantly obvious to them. I highly do not recommend Banfield and from the reviews I am seeing throughout the country and all over the Internet my opinion seems to be the predominant 1. A total scam with rude doctors who if they're not making their quota deliberately leave you sitting in a room. All I wanted was for the dog to be checked but he was in perfect health and only a 5 month old puppy so they knew that this was going to be a non money maker for them.

I was sold on the Banfield Optimum Wellness Plan 11 years ago for my sick puppy and have been a member since then. They said I had unlimited office visits and would accommodate me as my dog has medical complications. The past 2-3 years they will NOT accommodate me! WHAT IS THE POINT OF THIS MEMBERSHIP IF I CAN'T EVER GET AN APPOINTMENT WHEN MY DOG NEEDS IT? I sometimes live in rural areas far from a Banfield and need to order my dog’s prescription food, flea prevention, etc. All the vet has to do is sign the prescription.
I had to call myself 3 times and explain the situation just to get the food that was prescribed by a Banfield vet and that was clearly in my dog’s record. They wouldn't even allow me to order the flea meds online because they would only give 1 month’s worth and you can't order only 1 month's worth online. I cannot recall the actual locations as it was some time ago, but the vet office has recommended inappropriate items that I later found out were inappropriate. Exhibit A: Selling pills for arthritis and when I returned home reading contraindications, which included urinary problems which my dog is prone to forming crystals and is on special food for this purpose.
Exhibit B: recommending Seresto collar and when reading side effects there is a risk of skin irritation which my dog already has to everything. Her first initial vet visits made us feel like family, but now they treat us terribly! I am deeply disappointed in the service I was sold on and the type of service I have now. Your company has turned into a corporate giant with poorly trained vets, stressed techs, understaffed clinics and poor overall care. I wish I could get out of my membership, but at my dog's age, no one will take her. I will not make the same mistake with my next pet and be sure to warn everyone AGAINST the Banfield wellness plan.

Banfield Wellness Plans are a big push with Banfield. I like others I'm sure got suckered into signing up back in 2008. The first time I had the plan was back in 2008-2013. My dog died of cancer in 2013. I canceled and they obliged the cancellation in writing due to dog's death. Rescued another pet 2 years ago in 2016 and opted into another plan based upon that experience. My experience has been awful this time around. They are understaffed with doctors at all of their clinics (the regular theme weekly) so you can't get your pet in for weeks at a time should you require care outside of regular shots.
I canceled with them back in Feb of 2018 and they automatically renewed me in March without my permission which I saw in my online checking account and have continued to bill me monthly since. I kept calling them to stop and they said I had to buy out the contract because someone did not notate I canceled in Feb. So I took my dog back in April 2018 for some shots to try to recoup some of those unauthorized funds they took from my account. Have not been back since. I told them I have documented proof of their lack of willingness to care for my dog due to lack of doctor headcount and that I had to take my dog to 1st Pet Emergency 4x for care through their recommendation due to their inability to schedule my dog on multiple occasions.
The cost was exorbitant at the vet they recommended. I finally had enough and called my bank today to request they please stop the ACH monthly withdrawals from my account with a stop payment fee absorbed despite their threats they will pursue funds on the remainder of the contract through March of 2019. They won't stop billing me or cancel my contract per my request. So I am putting all of this evidence in writing and sending to their Client Advocate Dept. in Vancouver WA today 6/19/18. I don't have confidence I will get results, but hoping it will at least stop the ACH's coming out of my bank account.
I'm a senior citizen and I'm very disappointed to report the business practices at Banfield are highly unethical with no one will take accountability for their actions and poor customer service. The knife cuts both ways in a contract. If you do not deliver the services promised, we should not have to pay for services not received. They want me to buy out the remainder of my contract when I didn't approve renewal? I think not. If I have to, I will seek legal help. Based upon the 1725 consumer complaints about this company to date, I'm not surprised they are fighting so hard to continue to charge us and threaten us to pay out our contracts based on contract language. This is highly unethical and I do hope they take responsibility for their errors and do the right thing. Shame on you Banfield Pet Hospitals!

The staff at front desk at Jackson, MS location is very rude and unprofessional. Got a call for appointment scheduled and the person mentioned that the appointment was scheduled for today instead of tomorrow. I was surprised but quickly changed my plans and took the pet there. They refused to accept the pet and did not accept the mistake they made in scheduling. I was delayed by more than hour at work and had to drive extra 45 miles just because of this miscommunication. The least they could do is keep the pet (who is on their Early Care Plus plan) for few hours so that I could report for work and pick during lunch. Very unsatisfied.
When I tried to cancel the plan, after half an hour wait on phone, they told me I owe them more than I would have paid in installments anyway (what a scam). They tell you that there are no commitments and you can cancel any time. Reason of review: Return, Exchange or Cancellation Policy. Preferred solution: Full refund. The Banfield location at 305 N. Marketplace Blvd., Lansing, MI, had us give 2 tranquilizer pills (one on Friday evening and one that following Saturday morning), to my mother's 18 month old Puggle, prior to us being able to bring him in to have his nails groomed. Something I felt reluctant about from the start and now I definitely regret that we did. Once checked in, Mickey was taken into the back for what seemed like 10-15 minutes, then returned to us in a most disturbing and highly unprofessional manner. As we greeted the Banfield Rep that brought him out to us, I was taken aback by the way she greeted us by asking if we had checked out yet, almost sounding as if we would be expected to walk out without paying.
But the insult was even worse than expected. It turns out that Mickey had given the folks in the backroom a struggle, or so they said and supposedly it took 3 people to hold him down while weighing just under 30 pounds and drugged. Therefore, they proceeded to charge us $30+ for the service, which was almost double the cost of what we have usually been charged. When my Mother mentioned to me in front of the receptionist that she was going to change service providers for Mickey, the receptionist seemed to take pleasure in chiming in that if my Mother decided to do so, just let her know and she would be happy to forward his records.
The main thing that I find unconscionable about all of this is; 1) They charged my mother $11 for supposedly tranquilizers and if they weren't working well enough when we arrived, why didn't they say so upfront? 2) If they were struggling with him, why didn't they tell us before proceeding that he was too much for them to handle and that it would cost nearly double for them to groom him, particularly when my mother was sitting not more than a few feet from the doors they took him through?
To add the icing on the cake, they were still chatting about my mother's reaction when I went back to ask for information on the management of the place. I'm sure there was a sense of pride in treating us the way they had. We may even be one less customer that they don't mind not having to deal with anymore. Rest assured, I won't mind sharing this incident with as many people as I can as well. Lastly, in addition to recommending that the entire Banfield staff at that location go back to school for some common sense, they might try putting down the fork and doing more push-ups so they don't have to traumatize anyone else's pet the way they did ours. It's a good thing for them that they did it behind closed doors.

Just had an amazing experience on a heartbreaking day. We had to put our angel Lucky down and were fortunate to have the outstanding care of Dr. ** in Banfield’s Palm Beach Lakes location. Her compassion & skill for Lucky as well as those of us in despair, was truly amazing. Hope Banfield knows what an incredible gem they have in her!

We had a very disappointing and heartbreaking experience at this location. My mother took her sick dog to Banfield @ Fontainebleau in Miami. Our dog had a very acute medical record and slim chances of survival. Instead of support and consideration, the treatment we received from Dr. Enzo ** was quite cold and blunt when talking to us. My mom and I were involved in pickups and drop off with our dog while she was on liquids and when I picked up my mom's dog the first night the dr. was very short with me while explaining our dog's critical medical record.
He shrugged me off immediately when I made a question, without even listening to what I had to say and once he figured out what I was asking him he retracted himself. Our dog need IV liquids to get better and 2 days in a row the dog was not fed by their admission. When questioned, Dr. said "we didn't feed her because if she dies, I don't want it to be my responsibility" and later proceeded to give me discharge papers to get treated elsewhere as he didn't want to deal with. The dog was keep in a cold room despite her temperature being very low and the state she was in. No effort was made to keep her warm and at least give her quality of life during her last days.
It seems like he had no empathy of what we were going through and operated mechanically with no consideration of what the stress this could lead you to. When we took our dog home, a nurse walked over to us and in a low voice told told us "you are better off taking her elsewhere than keeping her here". Shameful that one of their own could feel this way about their own place of work. Being in a medical field, whether it is treating people or animals should require you to not forget the human factor. We took our baby to another hospital this morning and the empathy and consideration we received was night and day. Sadly, our dog will not survive but we assured that whoever is watching her is not a cold heart individual like Dr. **.

My fur-baby loves Dr. Sam ** & his team! My fur baby is Frutista Taco Bell-a who has been cared for by Dr. ** for the past 10 years. Based on the length of my relationship (and that of Frutista) with Dr. **, I am in a position to provide an accurate, uninflated review of Dr. ** and this Banfield location (#1954). Frutista is a rescue cat that I took to Banfield for an exam prior to finding her a permanent home. As it turned out, my fur-baby and I are inseparable. My experience with Dr. ** & team was excellent so I elected to stick with Dr. ** ever since.
Frutista experienced a bout with cancer early on and Dr. ** performed surgery. Today, Frutista shows no sign of a recurrence and remains exceptionally healthy. She receives excellent care from Dr. ** and the team. I have never had a bad experience at this location; the staff knows my cat, her story and her behavior. The staff and Dr. ** love my little fur-baby and treat her very well during her visits. Frutista is very well-behaved during the visits and this is directly attributable to the manner in which she is treated. The team always makes arrangements for Frutista to be seen even upon last minute requests. If a new staff member suggests an appointment on another day, I simply ask the member to speak with Dr. ** and without exception, Dr. ** accedes to my request.
Never once I have I sensed that this location/team has ordered or charged for unnecessary procedures/products. In fact, when my fur-baby required surgery for cancer, Dr. ** found a way to combine the surgery with her dental cleaning; the cost to me was $150.00! The care and value of the care received has been exceptional - always. Several Banfield facilities are much closer to my home but I am so confident in Dr. ** that I continue to visit this facility. I cannot speak to the experiences of others who have posted on this site and I do not question the accuracy of their statements, however, I can without reservation, recommend Dr. **, his team and this facility based on a long 10-year relationship with Dr. **.
If you are considering visiting Dr. ** but have doubts, Dr. ** has my permission to provide you with my contact info. This will give you the opportunity to speak with me and determine the level of my veracity. Dr. ** has been at this location for 12 years and has treated at least 10,000 precious pets during this time. In assessing the weight of the posted comments, consider the number of negative reviews against the number of patients served. Thanks for letting me share.

I have faithfully paying Banfield since 2007 for services to my dog. On May 29, 2018, my dog died. I have been going back and forth to Banfield since January 2018, because my dog has peeing blood, hard to do a bowel movement without straining. They have run many test and could never tell me why. In the beginning of May 2018 I took my dog back to Banfield because he was not eating and straining to pee. They charge me $239.00 for a X-ray and said that it look like he had cancer and they needed another $150 to do a cancer test. No, I told them, "I have been bringing my dog to you with a problem since January 2018 and you still have not told me what is wrong". Then as I was getting ready to leave another doctor came out and said, “Please get the test done, because if you did not bring your dog today he would have died on you in 3 days, and we will only charge you $50 and will have the report in 3 days.”
Banfield called me the next day and said that he did not have cancer, but keep giving him the inflammation and infection medication and bring him back in 3 weeks. After giving my dog the meds I noticed he was always having an reaction, so I would give him ** later. Then my dog started licking himself like something was bothering him real bad below and he started dripping pee bad, still straining with a bowel movement with blood. I continue to give him the infection med and inflammation med and then he started drinking a lot of water, vomiting white foam, then he completely not eating, but he was still drinking. Then he started to vomit brown stuff, along with not wanting to walk. I continue to give him the infection med and then I stop drinking and laying around all the time but would bark and respond. I decided to call the vet and have them check him out. But before I could get him in, he died at home.
I called Banfield and told them if I could bring him in to have him cremated, they said yes for a fee. I took my dog body to them and I ask them, “Are you concern what went on with him before he died.” I was told, “No, but if you wanted to know why he died you would have to pay a fee and to call the company and have your wellness plan cancel.” On May 30, 2018, I called to cancel my plan and was told, “You owe us $500 for previous treatment.” I said, “What previous treatment, I thought that was completed on that day and you charges me almost $500 for X-ray, medicine and still could not tell me what was wrong with my dog. I was told to call you and cancel my plan, they did not say I had to continue paying for a dog that had died.”
What kind of business is the company running with doctors and employees that don't have a clue to what is wrong with our pets, but can constantly keep overcharging us. I thought a wellness plan keeps the pets from getting sick, not making them worse and cannot tell them what the problems are. I will never take another pet to this hospital again in my life. If I would have known the problem long time ago I could have planned.

On 5/1/18 I took Moto to Banfield Pet Hospital, I have been using this vet since I got Moto in 2009/2010. Typically I never ever do drop offs because I do not trust anyone, however this time I did drop off at 720 am due to having to work. Moto went to the vet for a simple upper respiratory infection. I called the vet several times that day for updates and finally was told we can pick up at around 5. When we got Moto back home we realized that it seemed that she had some lameness in her backend, we thought it was her legs. I called the vet the next morning after getting the runaround the vet told me that it’s just probably stiffness from laying in her legs to call back in 24 hours if it continued and that they couldn’t have done anything to her. On 5/3 we took her back to Banfield and they didn’t even want to touch her.
They said we have two options take her to New Mexico or start a steroid trial. We let them know we could not afford option A so we would like to do option B. They would not allow us to do anything, they did not help her at all. They basically brushed us off. We spent 5/4 going to other vets and the vet Moto is seeing now informed us since she is healthy the only realistic answer is that Moto has trauma in her spine. Moto is healthy, her blood panel is great her urinalysis is great. My cat is healthy, well taken care of. I put trust into Banfield Pet Hospital and due to their negligence my cat is facing the end of her life. I reached out to corporate and they didn’t seem to care besides tell me someone will contact me in 5-7 business days.

I had to pay $125 to cremate my best friend. Now calling this company to cancel this program which I've been consistently paying $36.18 for 7 months. They said I accrued over $600 in charges past the plan. The only thing they ever did was his 4/5 shots which probably cost 10-20 a piece. Which THE WELLNESS PLAN is supposed to keep your puppy alive! They slacked on giving him a 6 month booster and doing any follow up. Yet I was told they did a fecal test and other tests within the first visit! Not true! They never disclosed any tests.
I was told with the wellness plan they do those test but nothing was ever performed. They micro chipped him (which I paid out of pocket) then sent us on the way! I paid a lot out of pocket. They are liars and thieves! Don't make my mistake! After he passed I was told they would call and follow up! Never heard a word from them. I had to call them! When I did talk to someone they said there was an invoice of all these tests which were never performed! Stay away! Share My Story So No One Else Can Be A Victim. So of course I’m nervous and so is my puppy. Nurse was so rough with thermometer. My puppy cried then the vet came in put a muzzle on her and told me pretty much in order for them to check her it would be 698.00 or I can purchase meds which came out to 40$. And I pay 63$ a month for plan. I waited 3 1/2 hours so she can tell me to go get the glue removed by a groomer or I can TRY RUBBING ALCOHOL. Mind you my puppy has a open cut. They are only interested in money. Then the vet told me if my puppy bites her she had to call animal control. I’m not a vet and I explained that my puppy was very nervous and in pain. The “VET” said, "I barely touched her."

Like many others, joined the Wellness Plan to have discounts on regular services. In reality, a payment plan. If you move out of the USA, they just continue to bill my card the monthly fee. Of course I have asked where I can get their 'World Class Service' in my part of the world, but their 'World Class Service' applies in the USA. OK, so cancel my plan if you can't provide the service. Aaah and that's where the THEFT comes in. Because I have signed a wellness plan, where they claim they are merely recouping costs, they can keep charging me and not provide services - because I was so stupid to move my dog from the USA within three months of the wellness plan rollover.
They claim they are saving me money by not providing services. Yeah right. is it a wellness plan? Heck no - it's a payment plan like a college plan. Apparently I have nine more payments to go. The dog had a stool test done and was prescribed antibiotics that I had to pay for out of pocket. This “wellness plan” is a scam! He goes in once a year for an exam and rather than taking him and seeing the vet, spending an hour or so, you must drop them off at 7 am and leave them for 10-12 hrs. It's a terrible system. You never have the same vet twice. I cannot persuade anyone enough to NOT USE this company! They are there to strictly make money, not for the care of pets.

Over this second year this service has been horrible. Every month I call I’m to see if there’s any available appointments and there’s none that fit my schedule. I’ve called several locations here in Pheonix Az, nothing!!
Last month I finally had a appointment made only to make it to the appointment and it was canceled due to them being understaffed and underpaid basically. So I’m continually paying them monthly and when I take my pup to the boarders to be up to date on her shots. So I’m just stuck paying for a service I can use. Then I spent 30 mins talking to a corporate rep about this issue because my pup needs her wellness vaccinations to be up to date so she can go to the border facility next week, I was floored when the rep the to BORDER was the BORDER of MEXICO, I was wondering why she continually asked why she needed shots to go to the border... outdone then to make the comment “oh, Sir you’re confused.” This has been a terrible experience... never again Banfield.

Two days later I'd get calls saying we never paid. Multiple times the card info was taken, no payment made, as well as also having a payment taken and not applied to the account. The last payment of our plan was just made and of course we get a call saying we owe them still. The money has been taken from our account.
Call, ask to speak to a supervisor. First time ever, the representative says I need your info and one will call you back. Never got a call, think that was BS. We call back, get a supervisor on the line, imagine that, she tells us my family has been very difficult to deal with, we asked how she would like us to send proof of payment being received. She tells us she is just canceling the account so they don't have to deal with us. Get a call two days later, account is still active, money still not applied, and the supervisor we spoke with this time said they need to look into the matter because they don't just close accounts. It's not our fault. We've given you the info you need every single time and no one can get it right. I just want to be done with these people, but they're making it impossible.

I brought my nine month old kitten, Tuna, (adopted from a PetSmart Charity I volunteer for) to a Banfield Pet Hospital to get an initial checkup. I wanted to ensure he had all of his shots up to date and to begin a Wellness plan for him. The doctor examined Tuna and suspected that his red gum inflammation was due to stomatitis. She recommended to have x-rays done to gauge the extent of the damage/disease. This location did not have the necessary equipment to perform that test, so I was referred to the closest location that did—over 45 minutes away. At my first visit with this second location, the vet gave me similar information about stomatitis—all of which I had researched on my own prior to the appointment. He told me that they would need to remove all of Tuna’s teeth to cure the stomatitis—as the disease is congenital and would not improve.
He recommended a biopsy of the gum tissue, to ensure that his theory was accurate. When he told me how much it would cost, I asked if we could do a treatment plan in stages. We decided that on this visit we would run blood work, test for leukemia, and FIV—all of which are actually covered in the plan, and fortunately all blood work was normal and he did not test positive for either! However, the steroid and antibiotic injections he recommended were $85 (with member discount).
I scheduled a follow-up visit for a week later. At that point, the doctor would perform a second exam to see if there had been any improvement and to retrieve the tissue for the biopsy. This procedure required anesthesia and nothing was included in the Wellness Plan benefits (I did receive a “discount” on the services). When I returned to pick up Tuna, I was asked to speak with the vet in an exam room to talk about what had been done. Tuna looked like he had been involved in a war. They had shaved the insides of his back legs completely, claiming that they had trouble drawing blood and attaching an IV. The vet also said not to be alarmed when I saw that his legs were bruised, as there had been minor issues with injection sites.
Tuna was hostile, growling/hissing, and clearly traumatized. We removed him from the carrier, because it was clear to me that he had used the bathroom inside of it. The carrier was cleaned and disinfected, but getting him back inside was a huge issue. I was asked if I could help, as Tuna was more likely to respond positively to me. Unfortunately, he bit me very hard on the hand... He was so scared and stressed that he seemed like a different cat. The vet and vet tech grabbed a big orange fleece blanket to restrain and force him into the carrier. It broke my heart to hear the screams and growls he was making. I performed first aid on my own hand and then checked out. My bill for this visit was $365.53. The invoice stated that if I were not a member I would have been charged $611.25, seems like a great deal right? I cried when I got to my car.
I waited to be contacted about the results of the biopsy, at which point we would make an appointment to have a dental cleaning, x-rays, and teeth extraction. When I received the call, it was from a third vet, who would be the one actually performing the procedure. He informed me that the results of the biopsy were as expected and that he recommended a full extraction. He then gave me a quote of $2,300. This was beyond devastating news. Not only is that an incredible financial burden, but it would mean that our nine month old kitten would be toothless for the rest of his life. Not to mention, this was actually the third time a price estimate had been given since my initial visit—each time it increased roughly $600. Banfield charges per tooth. That is not a joke. They literally charge for each tooth they extract.
I made the appointment, trusting the opinion of these doctors that there simply was no other option. It was their belief that getting this done sooner rather than later would be the best course of action. I was not fully convinced. I asked a coworker if she had a vet she liked taking her cats to, and she referred me to a local, private office. When I called this office, I asked how much a full extraction typically costs. The nurse said that it varies depending on how much anesthesia is needed, but the maximum it would ever cost would be $800. I was blown away and overcome with emotion. When I told her that I had been quoted $2,300 by Banfield she was flabbergasted. Needless to say, I made an appointment to visit this new vet office for a second opinion and cancelled my scheduled surgery with Banfield immediately.
I then called Banfield’s national customer service line to speak about my experience and to see what my options were about cancelling my plan. I already knew that Banfield has a ridiculous cancellation policy. If you wish to terminate your contract, you must either pay the remaining monthly payments upfront, or pay for the full cost of services you have already received at a discount. They graciously allow you to select the cheaper option, which of course is to make the remaining payments on the plan. Therefore, it is silly to actually cancel the plan—you might as well utilize the services that are included.
The customer service representative I spoke to, was actually very helpful and courteous. She listened to my concerns, answered my questions, and said she would send an 8 month supply of flea medication for each of my cats. I got off the phone feeling very positive. When I looked up the brand she was sending, I was less enthused. TrueShield, a PetSmart/Banfield exclusive product does not have good reviews on the Internet. If other customers who have filed complaints and left reviews are to be believed, the side effects can be horrendous and potentially life threatening. I have not decided what to do with the poison yet; I will not use it on my cats and I feel bad donating it to a shelter without doing more extensive research.
This story does have a happy ending though! The new vet was wonderful. I had all of the records faxed to his office and in his initial examination of Tuna he said that he did not believe that he would need to have all of his teeth removed. The inflammation in the gums was isolated to the outside of the back teeth only and in his opinion, removing all of them would be premature. He prescribed an antibiotic to see if that would reduce the inflammation and to call back in a week to report progress/schedule a second appointment.
Skipping ahead a little, yesterday was our appointment with the new vet for teeth cleaning, x-rays, and potential extractions (approximately two months after my first Banfield visit). The doctor called me in the middle of the exam, while Tuna was under anesthesia, to discuss the situation. He believed that the best course of action was to just do a deep clean to remove the plaque and flush the gums, provide a steroid, and a second round of antibiotics. His exact words, “We do not need to yank teeth, just for the sake of yanking teeth. Especially since his teeth look healthy on the x-rays and aren’t even fully developed.”
When I picked up Tuna, he was clearly a little anxious, but he did not seem like he had been through a traumatic experience. He had no teeth removed and he may never need to have any taken out. Best of all, the bill was only $300. Not that this is an insignificant amount of money by any means, but it was less than $2,000 than the quote from Banfield AND I still have a kitten with a full set of teeth. I have two cats currently on Active Prevention Wellness Plans. In theory, the services offered should save money and provide excellent care. Unfortunately, Banfield offers these plans to lock pet owners into a yearly contract to ensure returning customers.
The services that are provided are preventive only (not surprising, that’s the name of the plan...). However, the free vaccines, unlimited office visits, and routine lab testing only scratch the surface of what they will charge you for services they will recommend. For some pet owners, the Wellness plan may seem like a great idea. In fact, I will keep my plan (as if that were even a choice) and utilize the included aspects, but I will not renew. I do not believe that my experience is atypical. It is very clear that Banfield makes a large percentage of their profits from tooth extractions. Their second and third tier plans include a yearly dental cleaning with x-rays. Which means, they have the ability to call you when your pet is already under anesthesia to ask if they can pull out teeth due to an infection.
This is not to say that in some instances, cats (and other animals) do need to have teeth removed, but I hope that anyone who reads this review will be as fortunate as I was to avoid this trap. Always, always, always get a second opinion. I support a PetSmart Charity and volunteer weekly at an in store adoption center. I buy a lot of my pet food and other supplies there as well. Overall, I believe that this is a company that does a lot of good things; however, their system of Banfield Hospitals seems ethically questionable at best and potentially illegal at worst.

Receptionist with attitude problem and vets don't want to speak to the pet owner to give a more precise report on pet's condition. The only good Veterinarian there was Doctor ** and she quit working for Banfield Pet Hospital. After they closed down Olympic facility, my dog's file was send to Culver City location. When Jake need to see a Vet due to rectal bleeding due to constipation, I have a horrible experience with the receptionist at that facility. The male at front desk was rude, hold my dog who was experiencing horrible pain like he was a bag of potato.
When I ask him to be more gentle with my dog he say, "You are not happy how we handle things here you are welcome to take your bleeding dog back home." I left Banfield Pet Hospital and went straight to another Veterinarian seeking help for my poor dog. I called Banfield and send a letter canceling the service and they still deducted 2 months payment from my bank account. I need to go to my bank and speak to the manager, tell all about why I MUST place stop payment with Banfield Pet Hospital. Thank God I was able to stop Banfield from getting my money, but they keep calling saying that they are taking me to collection and ruin my credit. I had this pet insurance for over 30 years with a number of pets. They always got their automatic withdrawal until December 2017. Something got mixed up and I have 3 pets on the plan. Money was short then. Each plan hit with the same bank account number. All were unable to process. They did this 4 times with each hit costing me 29.00. I had close the account for it to stop. Banfield never called me to tell me that there was a problem for 3 months. I would have liked to have got a call after 1 or 2 hits that were returned. Instead I got a bank fees for over 250.00. BEWARE. The bank said since I set up the automatic withdrawal I am liable for the fees. When I contacted customer service the agent were rude and telling me that I was lying. I asked her for a supervisor to call me back. I am still waiting for the call. It has been a week. It the statement of my account from the bank. Now they say if I don't pay the monthly fee I have to pay for all services my dogs received. They automatically take money out of my account. I never received a renewal notice and you can not stop them. Finally my card expired and they can no longer take money out of my account, now I receive threatening letter. By the way my one plan was for 4 years then I added a dog for 1 year. The cost increased every year and you never get notifications. It has doubled from the price I was first quoted.

I took my cat to the Banfield Hospital in Cape Coral, Fl. She went in to be spayed and a few vaccines since she was a kitten. After her surgery she came home drowsy and unresponsive. She was a very playful cat so I assumed it was the anesthesia that was still in her system. A few days later she still had not bounced back. I called the vet and they told me to bring her in. They gave me a special food to feed her and after a few days she was getting worse. I went back a third time and the vet said, "We had tried everything. We just have to wait it out." I was blown away because at this point I didn’t think she was going to make it and they had no answers for me.
Later that day I decided I wanted to get a second opinion so I took my cat to my dogs veterinarian. Viscaya-Prado vet ran a few test and within 30 mins she was hooked up to an IV for fluids and given some medication. Within 24 hours she was back to her playful self. I would never go back to Banfield Hospital. If I left it to them, my cat would be dead. I tried to contact someone regarding the situation and I never got a response back. Now that I’ve seen other people’s reviews I should have read them prior to deciding on a vet for my pet. Seems like many people have had similar issues.

This hospital did not get proper authorization to add an animal to an account because their vet techs do not do their jobs properly to check for the right account cause all they care about is just get the money and charge money for services that were suppose to be added to another account. Charge for services that were not needed cause the plan included those services already and refuse to transfer retro refunds for services that the plan already included.
Do not use Banfield. They do nothing but steal your money and try to fraudulently not check all accounts for authorization. Make sure you have the proper account before you run your credit card. They steal your money. Beware of corporate when trying to settle your dispute. They are on the side of the hospital. They put a dog on my daughters account without her authorization instead of many account moms plan cause they just could not find mom’s account so the vet tech just assumed my daughters account was the right account. My son's pet whose name is Pancho was taken (March 8) with symptoms such as: diarrhea, vomit, the dog was there all day to be checked, and examined his feces, blood, urine, all results of the lab work were negative, they also took x-rays of the dog, and found that he had a swollen prostate, when my son picked up the dog the physician said apparently the dog ate something out in the yard or might have picked up some drug. However the physician observed that this dog did not eat during the day and prescribed ** because observed that the dog had pain and **. The dog was picked up and the physician said that if the dog does not eat any food the dog needs to go back to the clinic the next day. When the dog arrived at home he did not walk anymore and his jaws were locked (this the reason the dog could not eat) and that situation was due to extreme pain he had.
We forced him to take one ** mixed with some yogurt, put it through with a syringe and also he was given one ** which actually we know this is used to treat parasites, which the dog did not have. Next day early morning my son carried him over to the clinic, as he could not walk anymore and took the medicines back to the clinic for their administration. The person that received the dog was instructed by my son to give him the medication and an IV because he had 2 days without eating. The whole day the dog was there, they did not administer an IV to him, he did not eat at all or drank water during the day, a call was received from the clinic around 3:30 to inform that the dog had passed away.
Every dog will pass away, sooner or later, the important thing here is that they abandoned the pet and during its last hours they did not alleviate their pain at all. When we saw the dead body we noticed the dog's mouth was closed tight with his tongue which shows us he died in an awful pain. I believe that this clinic should dedicate maybe to wash and groom pets instead of dealing with their health. This pet was a customer of this clinic, he had a policy with them, and the treatment received was far from being humane. At the end they were not able to tell us what was the reason, or cause of his death.

The wellness plan is excellent, for them and their bank account. You are far better off just paying for the services as they are performed. They make it beyond difficult to cancel and require you to jump through countless hoops to do so, all the while smiling all the way to the bank charging you $35 a month. It took us over two months to successfully cancel, and conveniently the cancellation was approved two days after they took another non-refundable payment. They also allow minors to sign contracts but then use that as an excuse to not cancel the plan because you will need to provide various types of proof that the person who signed it is in fact a minor. Long story short, it's a great business model. They collect hundreds of dollars per year and provide minimal service for the plan. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR IT. Unless you like to put money in the pocket of a shady business without getting any value in return.

I brought my pup to the Banfield in Stroudsburg and couldn't be any happier with the staff there. Unfortunately, after this past snow storm, I was forced to go to the only other Banfield close to home (Whitehall location) because Stroudsburg's servers were down. My 4 month old puppy has been dealing with an on and off UTI and after being fine for 3 weeks after taking her meds, the UTI came back full force again (bleeding and discharge coming from her lady parts). Both my boyfriend and I called in a panic once we saw blood and asked if we can bring her in as a walk in. The receptionist (I believe her name was Tricia) was VERY sweet and helpful, she explained since the servers were down in one location, another location cannot download the files from that downed store.
After hours of going back and forth with the store, we finally got an appt for the following day. I dropped my dog off at 9 am that morning with a urine sample in hand (the Stroudsburg location told me to bring one with me last visit and supplied me with the kit). I received one call from Dr. ** (not exactly sure of her name) explaining how my dog is just leaking puddles of urine and they cannot do a urine culture if she keeps acting like that. I explained to her my dog never did that and if she did that would've been one of the concerns mentioned to them when they checked her in/that I wrote on the check in sheet (the reason she was doing that was because she was so scared of them and she had to endure the pain of being pricked repeatedly in her stomach to get a urine sample straight from her bladder and being away from us for 6 1/2 hours).
After 6 and a half hours of my puppy waiting there, I stopped in to make sure everything was okay, since I was not sure if I missed their call or not. The rude older receptionist there told me if I didn't get a call then my dog was not ready. I understand everyone is working and Im not the only customer there, but I wasn't sure if I missed their call and my dog was there for 6 1/2 hours just for her urine to be checked and possibly have some X-rays taken. Finally, the doctor brought me to a private room. The doctor had no personality whatsoever.
She told me my 4 month old puppy "attacked" her head tech and they had to keep her muzzled for their staff's safety. Not for nothing, but why would you have to keep my 4 month old puppy muzzled for such a long period of time and maybe the reason why she was nipping was because she was being pricked over and over with a needle that extended into her bladder for a urine sample (EACH TIME THEY MANAGED NOT TO GET ANY SAMPLE). I offered to hold her down if it were necessary and they informed me they would still have to keep her muzzled. I don't understand why anyone would have to be afraid of a puppy when you work in the animal field! Then the doctor explained that the urine sample I brought in wasn't a good batch and that when they tested it, it gave what she thought was a false reading.
Long story short, my dog left in the same condition she came in, I left with ZERO meds to help my dog with the bleeding or any discomfort, the tech that was helping the doctor along with the rude old receptionist gave me an attitude when I asked why I was being charged for a urine sample that she claimed was a bad batch but tested anyway, the tech said that it was a pain to go back and ask the doctor about pricing (VERY UNPROFESSIONAL), I was still charged $250 for absolute no results or progress, and I was then asked to come back the next day to try more urine samples. When I asked would I be charged again for the same tests, the nurse replied YES! Why should I have to pay for the same tests to be done?! SUCH A RIP OFF!
I called corporate to complain about my experience and to ask why I was charged for the same exact tests that were already done 2x (blood work that was $188 and urine tests), why I was charged $40 for a urine test at one location and $75 at the Whitehall location, and I cannot be reimbursed when this was supposed to be a follow up on how her UTI was holding up. I don't understand how one location can overcharge so much! Mind you, I am on their wellness plan for my 3 dogs. I pay a total of $200 for their wellness plans for absolutely nothing! If it weren't for the Stroudsburg location, I would've stopped using Banfield all together. Dr. ** at the Stroudsburg location is a pleasure along with the rest of her staff.
My 3 dogs love them at the Stroudsburg location. Today, I brought Quinn to see Dr. ** and my dog was so nervous to go into the private room to speak to the doctor she peed all over herself twice. I was also informed the head of the Whitehall Banfield was at the Stroudsburg location and she received my complaint to corporate, she didn't even have the nerve to come out and apologize for her staff's behavior or to hear my side of the story. She stood in the back part of the Vet. If you're the head of that location, I would've at least appreciate a phone call considering you did receive my complaint NOT have the Stroudsburg staff ask me questions about my experience and then have them relay my message to you. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT LOCATION TO ANYONE. NOT EVEN MY WORST ENEMY! VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND A RIP OFF! I wish I can give them 0 stars!

This time Doctor did not put her up on table, just bent down and said she had a heart murmur and her lungs was full of water. She had no symptoms of this. Gave me 250.00 of medicine for her to take.
She suddenly started getting really sick, could not breathe, in pain. Called Banfield, they said wait 2 days till her doctor came in. What??? They did not do blood work or x-ray or EKG or anything to check her out. This little girl was my baby and she was in pain. Called previous vet and took her right in, she died on the table. Location- American Fork Utah. Date- 2/13/2018. I visited this branch of Banfield yesterday 2-13-2018 and was very much not pleased with my experience. My dog has had a lump growing on his eyelid for a few months that has recently been changing rapidly. I explained the situation before making the appointment. Within four seconds of the vet seeing my dog, literally as soon as we walked in the door from a distance of feet away he told me, "Yep, we are not going to be able to help you as we do not have any sort of equipment allowing us to deal with masses of the eyes." First of all, I should have been informed of this information before making an appointment and then being forced to pay for the service. Keep in mind there was no actual service.
Also during our visit since the vet was not going to be able to help with the actual issue, the eye mass, I figured I will at least have him perform a basic routine exam of my dog while we are already here. He told us a few things he found and gave us an updated rating of the dog's previous heart murmur and dental disease levels which he only was able to give after asking what the previous vet had rated them, and then rated them exactly the same. When asked to explain in further detail the information he was giving me after the examination of the pet he was unable to. His only response was, "I do not know. I would have to look that up or research that."
To top it off the whole time we were in the office from about the second we walked in and he saw that they could not deal with the eye mass, he was trying to rush us out. I will likely never return to Banfield because of the service we received on this occasion plus many others. I have visited this office a few times and the service has been the same every time, rushed and very limited options/information given. Vets here do not seem to have an affectionate side to them.

When I questioned why I was never assessed this fee in the past, I was rudely told, I would be paying it this time.
I told them to not touch my dog and I would return to get him. When I picked him up, I was told not to bring him back to Banfield. I later called to be refunded the money paid since October since NO services were rendered and Banfield terminated the agreement by telling me not to return with my dog, and I was declined. Neuter gone wrong - I took my 5 month old Pitbull/Mastiff to Banfield in Chula Vista, CA and joined the Puppy Optimum Wellness Plan, thinking I was doing the right thing. I picked him up after their standard 6 hour window, and he was covered in urine. I figured accidents happen and just disregarded it. So I cleaned him up when I got home and put him in his crate right away which I had fully bleached and had lined with potty pads to keep everything sterile. I also lined the seats of my car with pads as well to make sure his incision site stayed clean. Everything was normal the next two days until we woke up 3 morning after and he was hiding in the corner wailing in pain, so I checked his area and found a softball sized "scrotum" that had black and purple pus pockets all over it and it was DRIPPING BLOOD.
So naturally, I took him to a different vet in San Diego and they took him back right away and told me he had a strep infection. They had to do a procedure to cut out all dead tissue and sew in a drainage port. This procedure cost me $1100. On top of the nearly $400 Banfield charged me for medications, cone, etc. prior to taking him to the other vet, I actually took him back to Banfield and they said it must've been my fault for letting him be active and said it was a hematoma and made me wait 6 hours to pick him up, again when I picked him up, he was soaked in urine.
When I called the vet who performed the surgery and asked her why she didn't run tests that she CHARGED me for, to see that he had a strep infection when the other vet found it within minutes. She said to me with absolutely no remorse, "I'm not a miracle worker. There's no way I could've predicted this happening". No apology, did not accept responsibility, and I still haven't heard a peep from them and this was in September 2017. No call, no email. They sure do get their $50 a month though. The only reason I haven't sued is because I don't have picture proof of their filthy holding area conditions. I know for a fact he got Strep there.

They told me to take him to a 24 hour hospital rather than keep him there and when they handed me him I immediately noticed something strange with his eyes.
As soon as we arrived to the 24 hour animal hospital they told us that he had turned blind. My dog turned blind under the supervision and care of banfield and they did nothing about it!!!! They did not even tell us, they truly are the worse animal hospital ever. Please do not bring your animal there. They are more concerned about your money rather than the care for your animal. My dog was neglected by them, their services are the worst. My family is truly devastated for the tragic loss of our pet but we are at peace that he is no long suffering. Our anger and frustration is with banfield animal hospital due to their lack of care and sensitivity towards our fellow animals. I am truly baffled and in shock with their poor services and their lack of attention to my poor dog who was suffering all these years and they did nothing to help.
Please be aware and do not go to any banfield hospitals! When I called the doctor at the banfield location the next day prior to putting him down, the doctor had the nerve to read me the report from the 24 hour animal hospital and tell me that she had told me this when I picked my dog up from them! Which all was a lie, she did not tell me anything at all besides the fact that there were some abnormalities with his blood and that he was dehydrated and she had felt something abnormal within his abdomen that he more than likely would have to stay at a 24 hour animal hospital for a day to get rehydrated. Not once did she mention how severely ill my dog was and did not mention he was blind.
This pains me to know that under their supervision and so called care he was only suffering more and progressively getting worse and they did not a single thing at all about it. When I asked her why she didn't tell me she said it was because they had performed a check up on him about 2 hours before they told me I could pick him up and he did not appear blind at that time. This situation in all is so frustrating and truly devastating for my family. I don't understand their lack of care towards the animals that go there, what's the point in being an animal hospital if you cannot properly care for ill animals? Please do not take your animals to any banfield animal hospitals!

Horrible facility. I had to pay for another dog that was not mine. It was horrible and I hate the customer service. Do not use Banfield if you can help it. They are horrible!!! They use people emotion and they take their money. It's awful. I have one dog and was helping another dog. Brought them to Banfield and they used my emotions and made me pay $1200 for a dog that I brought and helped. That is not fair. I used only $564 and had to pay double. Very upset.

I went to speak with the manager and he apologized because he admitted they messed up. I need someone to get back to me because this is not right. You have staff that is not sensitive to customers, providing medical care without consent and also poor at communication.

Attention all cat owners: Don't trust Banfield Pet Hospital. These hospitals are usually found at PetSmart locations, making it one of the most convenient and popular hospitals for pet owners. But in our experience, we've come to not trust the vets at our store. And I don't want to under exaggerate anything... We wouldn't trust them as far as you can throw em and boy have I felt the desire to do just that.
After they recommended sending our Princess Pebbles home with us thinking she was fine, we took her to a different, high-end emergency hospital where they found the lymphoma in her stomach that forced us to put her down. We're still heartbroken by that. But now our second cat, St. Peaches, recently had her annual vaccinations and check-up. She now has worms. Her flea medicine they prescribed for us hasn't done much good either, and we think that's the only way she could have gotten the worms too.
As it is, she hates going to the vet. But obviously we'd feel good about putting her in a cage and bringing her there if we knew they'd make her better. They are not. Now taking her to the vet just feels like we're kicking her when she's down. And if you love your cats as much as we love ours, you never want to put your babies through that sort of misery. And of course, the thought of losing the second of two stray kittens we've tried to save would be truly devastating to us. We're hoping her worms will be cleaned out of her without too much trouble or damage done to St. Peaches. I'll be sharing this criticism on other websites I can find to warn other people as well. We will NOT be trusting Banfield Pet Hospital with our babies ever again. Our location is Morehead City, NC.

If there is a 0 star I would have given that! I had an appointment yesterday at 4:30pm and they did not even checked my dogs ears! When I came home I realized he had an ear infection. When I went there early in the morning they stated that they are not required to check the ear and the eyes!!! Then what are you checking when we came to the appointment!?? Why am I paying monthly if they will not check everything??? I am not even going there every month but I am paying? It's fine but when I am going there for an appointment every 2-3 months THEY NEED TO CHECK EVERYTHING MY DOG HAS!!! So we went there in early morning and they refused to check my dogs ear and sent us home even without looking! They said there was no doctor in (that was a lie) because I saw the doctor walking in while I was having conversation with the receptionist! Horrible place. So upset!

I would give this facility a zero if I could, as it is a terrible facility, with uncaring personnel, dirty rooms, vet techs who look like they just rolled straight out of bed. It is a factory for animals and they care only about making an additional buck, on top of your wellness plan. On my initial visit, Andrea **, DVM had to give my puppy an additional injection, because she withdrew the vaccine too soon (four pokes instead of three) and felt extremely uncomfortable doing a rectal temp. To top it off, I was told that my puppy got three pokes instead of four.
I was in the room and witnessed the entire incident. Thanks for the honesty, Banfield. Gina **, DVM was a "know it all", had a "talk down to" attitude and likes to lecture you on the care of your animal. However, when I asked her about the amount that I should be feeding my puppy, she responded with, "look on the bag!" How did you obtain your vet degree, Gina? Pretty scary to say the least. Another question for you, Gina? Heard of bedside manners before? Do not take your loving animals to this facility, as it is a chop shop of animal care.

I am now on year number 4 as a Banfield Optimum Wellness Plan client for my Chihuahua Maggie. I am almost appalled at all of the negative reviews I am seeing and am hoping not all Banfield locations are THAT BAD. My location in Clearwater FL is great. I've been provided everything as promised and outlined in the information provided prior to enrolling her. And by the way, you can cancel at any time and are not "locked-in" to a 12 month contract. And even using them 3x/year is the same cost or less as is paying a private vet for services separately or as needed. If you do not take your pet at least 2x/year for annual comprehensive care then you clearly are not taking care of your pet! Where in this country, other than small farming towns, can you get all of the necessary and required vaccinations, spay/neuter, unlimited visits, an awesome phone APP and great veterinarian service for the amount paid per year?
A spay/neuter surgery ALONE costs nearly what a 12 month plan does. Every single office visit alone at a private vet would rack up your bill beyond that amount as well. Vaccinations, De-worming, fecal exams, blood testing and included heartworm and flea prevention! And to top it off they are available 7 days a week, are always willing to see my pet at any time, always provide clear and concise and consistent information and appt reminders. I will not go on, as financially, nothing can beat it. Let alone I've had nothing but good interaction with the staff and doctors. No one and nowhere is "perfect" by any stretch of the imagination, but I feel so great knowing Maggie has this health benefit that I choose to rate Banfield at 5 stars!

I took my cats and my dog to Banfield. I didn't like the way the Salespeople (who were supposed to be vet techs) slapped a booklet down on the table where your baby was sitting, waiting for something to happen. If you have a healthy pet, you can make an appointment at any other vet's office and it would cost about the same as one visit at Banfield, maybe even a bit less. The difference that I have found since I left Banfield, is my new Vet cares more about the well being of my fur babies than suckering me into buying a wellness "scam" plan. I paid for some time and only took my babies a couple times. I paid out of pocket for way too much. What is the point of a "plan" if I am still paying for all the services and medications? I honestly should have known better than taking my fur babies to a Food Store to see the doctor. Shame on me. And Shame on Banfield. There are certainly a lot of Negative reviews on here, hmmm that means something. Do Not Go There!!!

They take advantage of your love for your pet and turn it into profit. The prices for services are ridiculous and every time you visit the doctors will find SEVERAL things wrong with your pet to ensure you pay for SOMETHING before you leave. Most of the so called medicines can be purchased over the counter at a much lower price. The gimmick is that they know that your pet means the world to you, they're your babies and they capitalize on just that. I am moving out of state and there are no Banfield offices anywhere near there yet I am still required to pay the contract out for 8 months even though my pet won't be visiting the hospital AT ALL!!! PetSmart policy is so misleading. They get you to purchase those wellness plans without adding the fact that you will be locked into a 12 month agreement. After finding out the savings is not so great after all and that you will probably not utilize plan monthly. Once they get you to drop your pet off... That’s their opportunity to call you and tell you your pet has A-Z. Thank God they were unable to get a hold of me or I would have agreed without thinking, to go ahead and add more cost to a plan I will not use much after today. Once I declined the service... They were not as friendly as they were when you first got there. Especially the doctor. They are not upfront about their policy. If you don’t ask, they won’t tell you. So, I was told at my first appointment at Banfield, you get this, you get that. Easy appointments, flexible, can cancel anytime. Total lie! Every time I thought I scheduled an appointment, I was then called and told there was no available appointments, but I can maybe do a drop off appointment. First off, website is misleading, secondly, why was an in office appointment never available, and a drop off appointment is always pushed. I want to be there, and I don't want to leave my most likely scared, not feeling well pet. Ok, then I call 8 different locations, nothing for days, I call my dog's vet, squeezed me in on a Saturday in a minute (they are the best). Call to cancel Banfield, told, "Do you schedule your pets for their visits like you should, maybe if you don't wait 'til last minute..." I didn't, something looks off and I want it checked.
Then I tell her, "Just please cancel, I can never get in, so why pay for something I haven't used?" She tells me she will have to charge me the rest of the year since I signed a contract. I was told I could cancel, you can, but they charge you. I was then told I received over $300 dollar service in June, and I only had to pay, blahblahblah. The vet didn't even clean his ears, she wanted more money to do that, even though he had an ear infection. (Never had that before, real vets clean then apply medicine, no extra charge, just FYI). I really should have known better since in a pet store. Scam and not pet people, money people. Curious to see if they actually look at the animals when you drop off, weird. When I called to change my monthly fee, they told me that I don't have a contract, but they still have to charge me NY prices. I told them to have a manager call me so we can discuss this further. A manager did call and left a message, but I was not able to answer the phone, I was at work. When I called back (several times), nobody got back to me. They owe me $156 for all the times they collected more from me, have not returned it, and have the nerve to continue to bill me, without a contract. My dog weighed the same at 8 months as she did 5 months. After refusing to pay more for a service I had already paid for, I tried getting a refund for the spay. I could have saved lots of time and money if I went to a real animal hospital in the first place.
Also, I took my dog to Banfield for my dog's scratching. They told me there wasn't anything they could do and I should take my dog to a Blue Pearl. Literally, a week later, I get an advertisement email from them about dog scratching. The email was advertising Banfield dog scratching expertise. So either the vet on duty was incompetent or didn't want to do anything. Took my dog there for separation anxiety. I was told to go somewhere else as they couldn't do anything. I had a bad feeling when I get a call from them saying I haven't made a payment for the past 5 months. I asked them how is that possible if my credit card has funds and I set it up automatically. Of course blame it on the bank, so I asked the rep to process the full payment now. Came out to $500 in one lump; How did my card have enough funds to pay $500 but not the $60 monthly they promised.
The second thing I called in August and told them they are the worst service ever to please make a note stating that I DON’T want the automatic renewal, The guy said he posted it and that it won’t renew. Guess what? Come Oct 17 I got charged again, they claimed I never said I wanted to cancel. On top of that, Now I have a bill of $250 that I have to pay because the plan was renewed on the 17th and the follow up appointment my mother made after my dog got neutered, was on the 23rd.
They are very sneaky with the money and getting you to re-enroll. Be very careful!!! I clearly told the rep to cancel my renewal and my follow up appointment on the 23rd would be the last, he purposely didn't remind me that the plan was going to be up by then. I had 2 dogs on the Wellness Plan at Banfield a few years back. Other than getting a couple of "well visits" you weren't able to get an appointment otherwise. I canceled my plan because anytime my dog was ill they were always booked and gave me the Vet ER they refer the customers to. I took my dog to the ER which wanted $2400 and then did a same day follow-up 3 hrs later at Banfield who just agreed with the ER vet only to take my dog to a different ER that same night to find out it was something totally different.
A few years later I went back to Banfield and they said they had new management, more vets, and added an extra examination room. I was told it was much better than the years prior so I gave them another chance and signed up again. I had been lucky I did not required any services other than the well visit but today my little dog was having an eye issue. He cannot open his eye. I called Banfield but they were booked and suggested I call another Banfield. I called the next one that was 10 miles away and they couldn't see us and wanted to refer me to the ER they use. Once again, paying a ton of money for a couple of well visits isn't worth it. If I didn't have the wellness plan they probably would take us in since they could make more money for that visit.
Do not sign up for this ripoff service. Even with a Well Visit they want to run other tests for additional charges. The included dental cleaning is ok but they don't do X-rays and if they need to pull a tooth it is anywhere from $50-$500 per tooth, so you just have to take the word of the vet if any teeth really need to be pulled and the price - basically, like giving them a blank check.

I went back to them and I explained it all and I asked them for them to gave me a new refill or prescription because they have made a mistake. Their response was that I needed to buy it again. They made the mistake and I had to buy it again? I asked for the doctor and they said she was not available. Now my dog has a chronic infection in his ear that I think it will need a surgery. The way it was explained was that there would be a discount on treatments and medications if I signed up. Couple of weeks later took my other small dog in because of a knot on her chest and to get her generally checked out. Again with the Wellness Plan. Signed up both dogs and began having 2nd thoughts. Called to cancel the plans and was told that if I cancelled I would have to pay the "balance due" for the services that had been provided supposedly at an almost 50% discount.
Balance due for each was about $700 and would have to be paid today. Balance due equals almost what the monthly installment amount for the "Wellness Plan" is. So either I come up with $1,400 immediately or I keep the plans and pay about $1,400 a year in monthly installments. THIS IS A SCAM AND A RIPOFF. Some people complain about the wellness plans and feeling taken advantage of BUT you need to read the entire contract because it is in fact, a contract.
The nice thing is that since the kitten needed so many visits I was not charged $70 each time. Please do research about other options before you sign up with the contract because other vets maybe offer less money for shots and spaying/neutering. I have been going to Banfield in Willoughby Ohio. I have had my dog on the wellness plan since she was 6 months old. She is now going on 4 years old. She just had an annual checkup several weeks ago and now I noticed a strange lump on her shoulder. I called Banfield and they said the earliest in room appointment was over 3 weeks from that day. I made the appointment but I said I would call if the lump changed. A week later I was concerned about it and called them again. They said there was a drop off appointment the next week so I took that appointment. I don't like to leave my pet because she has separation anxiety, so I figured I would just sit in the waiting room with her until the vet had time to check out the lump. I arrived at *8:30 in the morning figuring I would be there until noon. I told the receptionist that I preferred to stay in the waiting room with my pet until the vet had time to look at her.
All of a sudden you would think that I had really hit a nerve with that vet, She sent the receptionist out to tell me that she wouldn't even guarantee that she would be able to see my pet that day because she was so busy and that if I would leave my pet there all day she might have a chance to see her before they closed. I absolutely refused to allow my pet to sit in a cage for the whole day surrounded by sick animals and not even being sure that she would be seen by the vet. I am disgusted by the way I was treated there. When they made that appointment they said it usually takes a couple of hours.
I cannot understand why it suddenly was impossible for the vet to see my dog unless they were hiding something. Maybe I was just too particular about how my pet would be treated in that place so they didn't want me there. It makes me sick to read these reviews now and I'm stuck for another year of their rip off wellness plan. They do not really care about the animal. Their only thought is about what procedures they can sell to you.
I also had a tragic loss of my last dog. He was solid and strong until I started to take him to Banfield. First they said he had protein in his urine. They gave him antibiotic and other meds but he never was the same. Then that vet left the company and the next one told me that he had leukemia. And because it was advanced there wasn't much we could do. He died 2 months later. I'll never know for sure just what happened but he was only 13 years old and he was really well cared for. It's very rare that a dog gets leukemia so I never will know exactly what happened to him. I just don't want that kind of thing to happen to this one.
I see in these complaints, that the corporation is very mean about cancelling the contract. They trick you into renewing because it renews automatically. You get sucked in because it's hard to remember when the contract started. I have it marked on next years calendar. Stay away from Banfield on Euclid Avenue in Willoughby Ohio.

Being in financial trouble at this point we figured why not make the appointment and go from there. We purchased a wellness plan that seemed to turn into a nightmare that we wanted to get rid of the very next day. Banfield agreement was, cancel within 4 days, get your money back. But that's not how it went. I called the next day to cancel and not only did they keep my $188.90, but they charged me another $80.00 apparently for canceling. They did nothing but a normal exam. What they are not telling the new clients is if you do not purchase a wellness plan you have to pay for that so called FREE office visit.
I'm out almost $300.00 and they don't care. People like myself need to be wary of; if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is, walk the other way. Also not very clean in there. I had to clean blood off the floor so that my 2 pugs didn't come in contact with it. Not a good pet hospital in my opinion. Also at the time I was deciding about purchasing a wellness plan the tech made so many mistakes in pricing. Per the receptionist suggested that to bring her in the following morning at 7 am, I did. By 10 am I didn't hear from Banfield so I called. Doctor had back to back surgery and my fur baby will be seen as soon as the doctor can, meanwhile my baby is sick and stuck in their kennel with no medical attention? The tech said my dog is eating and drinking well (that's odd?). So I ask her, "What did you give her to eat?" She said a cookie and water. Unbelievable, I said I know for a fact my dog didn't eat a cookie she has no appetite and she is only drinking water, she said that's what she been told. I in turn stated if the doctor doesn't see her within the hour I will pick her up and take her to another vet. Omg... liars.
I called back and was told that the doctor was examining her and wait for the doctor to call me. First of all the doctor NEVER CALLED ME! The tech called me stating I can pick her up, she only has eye infection in which the doctor prescribe ointment $35.00 then additionally the doctor would like to do an exam that will cost $40 something and finally antibiotics for upset stomach $70 something. I ask her if the doctor do urinalysis? She said no, and I said, "Why not?" Technician said, "I'll call you right back." Not until 40minutes later that my lil dog urine came out with Diabetes Mellitus with her ketone level extremely high.
I said what are my options and finally the doctor gets on the line and said it will run anywhere from 600 to over $1,000.00 depending the severity of her levels. If I can't afford it I can either borrow or try a charity to cover the expense. I said money was not the problem that I want it the best for her. She said I can pick my dog up and bring back in the morning they have no hospital care at their facility so I did. The receptionist said to me that my dog needs to use the restroom cause she was in the kennel for almost 11 hours, unbelievable. No one let my dog out to use the restroom? No it's a liability. Now I'm beyond my limits. She brings my dogs. She look worst then when I took her in earlier in the morning. She was lethargic and no medication to take home.
Now it's late in the evening my poor baby does not want any food or water. By 11:30 pm she was completely lethargic and by two in the morning she was vomiting bile her stomach is empty. Then at 4:30 am she was breathing really heavy then it stop. I thought, "Oh no. She passed," then I check her was alive. Then by 8:30 now she was vomiting and foaming. I called a vet near me and she was euthanize on Friday morning. I'm so loss with words my heart is broken and I had to buried her all in one day. I have been with Banfield for 3 years. I took the plan based on their recommendations. There are a few issues I found here and surfaced in my last appointment. First, my dog was said she have a murmur. Shortly after that visit it was said she didnt. Fast forward two or so years... She has a murmur and it is recommended to see a specialist. I was told to get the EKG. Not part of my plan. She also had back pain and needed and x-ray. Again - not part of my plan. I find out that I can increase the plan per CST and when I went to do it, the doctor refused and said if I did she would still make me pay out of my pocket because I didnt have the plan prior to the appointment. The terms and conditions (P3 #6) say I can upgrade at any point - yet she said it is up to her and she wont do it.
When I signed up for the plan there apparently was only one line out of the 3 full pages saying this is not insurance. For a new dog owner who is relying on a expert, knowing little about plans, this doesnt mean much. They call themselves a hospital but they are truly only a clinic. Hospitals do surgery, radiology, and more indepth care. I asked them if I needed anything else for coverage and they said no. I feel it was not promoted accordingly and even noticed that now, all their pamphlets say it wasnt insurance clear across the top and big letters because they obviously know it was misleading and not made clear that it wasnt insurance.
The other issue is my dog usually has high liver enzyme levels and they continued to take the test to see it go up and down and not do anything for it but yet keep charging me and making it seem like it is a big deal because of course that is the one thing no covered under the plan. It isnt significant or consistent enough to warrant additional medical attention but it is to warrant coming out of my pocket for was seems, based on history, normal Sophie levels.
I now have a dog with a murmur that according to the doc could be bad and should be checked for swelling and today being told I should have listened to the first doctor despite at least 4 Dr’s seeing her and not noticing the murmur after the first Dr. So it is the person without the medical degrees fault?! No insurance and no future coverage because I was mislead to believe the wellness plan was enough. A dog with back pain who flinches when you touch her but unless I paid them cash for the x-ray, I couldnt get that either even though an upgrade would have covered it. Finally 10 more months with a company I no longer trust. Someone needs to look into them! I couldnt get the care I felt she needed and they could have provided and had to pay out my pocket.

BANFIELD DISCRIMINATES AMERICAN DISABLED VETERANS - @Banfield. Banfield Pet Hospital and their corporate employees have become greedy & uninterested in their customers' retention. The level of commitment to the services we pay for has fallen over the past 4 years out of the nine years my best friend has been a patient. Since living in Summerville SC and moved to Lakewood CO we've encountered 3 major complaint issues where I contacted the client advocate team to have the on-site manager questioned for the doctors' ethics.
Twice the claims were resolved by offering monetary compensation which isn't comparable to my dog's life obviously. The procedures performed were impacting my dog negatively further at both the Arvada and Lakewood locations. The policy at Banfield is upsale everything. Even while your pet is under anesthesia when the doctor leaves you a message on your phone saying you have five minutes to decide to use a new never heard of medication or not. I found that very frustrating and irresponsible of the veterinarian.
Today I've been waiting for two months for a response from the Banfield corporate client advocate team because I wish to part ways from Banfield cancelling my contract as my dog has suffered enough. They don't care about your pet or how you feel they just want your money and I am now stopping payment through my bank. I encourage everyone to look at other means of health insurance for your pet. Banfield was unable to help out when my dog was dying (no appointments available). Now they are charging me the remaining monthly fees for the rest of this year even though my dog passed away and I canceled my plan. I would highly recommend you steer clear of this organization at all costs. Their employees may be ok, but from my experience, they are understaffed and not very helpful. You are most likely better off with a local vet.

My doggie, Baby, was diagnose with heart failure around June 2017 and prescribed 3 medications. I did see the medications were working. However after 1 month or so I also noticed Baby losing weight and becoming very weak. I took her back at the beginning of September 2017 and requested if one of the medicine could be removed. I had researched all 3 meds and found 2 of the meds were had the same function and felt Baby was getting double dosed. The vet said to continue to give her all 3 meds. At the beginning of August 2017, I stopped giving her the ** and Baby regained her strength. However the weight loss was still an issue. I took her to the ER mid of September and doctor informed me she was well.
However the heart condition was overworking and taking all her energy. He said for me to focus on getting her more calories. Unfortunately the damage was done and my Baby passed on September 23. I feel Banfield (Bloomingdale, IL) did not inform me regards the heart condition enough and did not care to reevaluate her meds for the best interest of Baby. Yes the prepaid plan helps with the office visit and so but they really don't care of the well being of their furry clients.

Let me start off by saying the wellness plans are a scam, and the doctors are rude. When the lady in the front sold me on the wellness plan for my pup, she stated that it included all the regular shots and medications my pup would need. Not mentioning that flea and heartworm preventative was not included. On top of that the wellness plan flyer stated it included worm testing and deworming meds. Well my pups first visit they found he did have worms in his stool so they gave him the medication, then charged me an extra $30 for that medication claiming it is not included. On top of that only one of the doctors at the Ocala, FL location had any kind of bedside manners. I understand he is a dog but dogs do have feelings. They are not a machine. The doctors were very rude and scared my dog half to death. I cant even take him into the regular store anymore without him freaking out.

They tout unlimited exams, but that's only unlimited preventative exams, so if your pet is actually sick, they are under no obligation to see them. So, you really need two vets if you use them. Them for preventative care and a second vet if your pet gets sick. Their website states that they provide acute care and emergency care during normal business hours, but there's a small caveat buried deep within (when available).
Their vet recommended that I upgrade to the "special" care plan because my puppy has a penchant for eating things he should not. When that happened, I called and was told they wouldn't see him and to take him to the nearest ER. The closest open ER was over 30 minutes away and poisoning is supposed to be treated as quickly as possible. I called and begged another vet to get him in, they did. It turned out I had gotten all the gum out of his mouth, so his life never was in danger, but that was not known until the vet induced vomiting and none was found. We were still unsure because dogs' stomachs empty quickly until my child came home and told me she had grabbed a couple pieces of gum that morning.
I did complain online that their website states they provide emergency and acute care. I received a call from the clinic manager who explained to me that they had been understaffed for a little over two months, and were under no obligation to provide any services beyond preventive care. The whole reason their vet recommended we upgrade was because there was a good chance he'd need emergency care. It was then that I was told they did X-rays on him while he was under getting his teeth cleaned, so we had used the upgraded services. I said the X-rays were to be used if he accidentally swallowed something, not for a random X-ray on a then 14 month old dog with no injuries, illnesses or genetic predisposition for joint issues. So the X-rays would have been used up if there was an emergency.
In addition, she told me the policy was that the secretary should have called other Banfield facilities to see if they could get me in. She admitted policy was not followed. She then referred me to corporate. I called corporate. I had to walk the rep through the website and show her that it did say they provide emergency services and acute care. Acute care did not say as available, but emergencies did. She then compared their wellness plans to a primary care provider. I reminded her that primary care providers treat sick patients. She confirmed that it would be a good idea to have a second vet for when my dog is sick. Seriously? She then stated there was nothing they could or would do for me, wouldn't let me cancel or downgrade the remaining plan because they had already done the unnecessary X-rays.

Why they call themselves a hospital baffles me! They are a veterinary facility, NOT a hospital! They send you to an emergency hospital because they are too busy trying to make money on basic vet care... immunizations and basic preventative care. I am looking for anyone that would like to start a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT against this place. They have taken my money monthly for several years now and the care I get for my elderly dog is less than awful! You can't get an appointment for up to 3 WEEKS!!! They don't care if you are an ongoing client paying their paycheck!!!
The front desk person should be fired! (Specifically the San Juan Capistrano location). She will sit there on the telephone with personal phone calls, all the while there are 5+ patiently awaiting clients that have appointments. I've had to wait every single time I go there for a minimum of 30 mins and then when she attends to you, she takes another 30 minutes because she is incompetent. I have complained about her to the corporate office and it turns out the corporate office has a specific team of people that handle the myriad of complaints they have! Then they keep you on the phone and try to make it so difficult to file a complaint that you just give up!
This company needs to be sued by ALL of us that are suckers to buy into their "wellness" plan! They are thieves! If your pet gets sick, you are DOOMED by this place! If you look at all of the complaints (prior to mine) you will see how unhappy everyone is!! Let's do something about this now!! I am writing, not to complain about the many good doctors working for Banfield, but how as an organization, all is dealt with according to how much one is willing to pay! Case in point. I signed up for a $42/mth wellness plan for my 12 year old dog. She was the happiest dog and well taken care of by me. I did everything a mother would do for her child and she never had to suffer because of my negligence. I took Heidi in a few times, mostly just to make sure she was OK. What I noticed was that they always commented on something, which could prevent an ear infection or any other ailment she did not have at the time.
I was unlucky in this particular location in Tucson to have to endure a technician who never stopped urging to buy all the expensive treatments they have lining the shelves. Better to prevent and buy our expensive products, is their motto. I am smart and animal loving and would, no matter what, come up with funds needed for my dog to be well. I listened to a lot of advice and was to feel negligent if I didn't buy their stuff. I was supposed to have dental treatment once a year. I kept asking the technician when my dog would receive her dental cleaning and was told that she needed blood tests and other tests (which are out of pocket and unaffordable for me) because of her age, which were not included in the plan.
I need to at least round up an additional $500 for some teeth which most likely needed to be pulled. Why would it cost an additional $500 to pull teeth when the dog is already anesthetized? I felt used at every turn while I was on this plan. There was no sincerity, only capitalistic greed and very little else. Disgusted, I did not renew this plan or went back to Banfield. I would like to address the vets at Banfield. Your front desk's conduct represents you. Make sure you employ mature and knowledgeable technicians because mine was damaging.

My dog suffered a blown out anal gland in Chicago around February 2017. We moved to Las Vegas in May 2017. The Banfield clinic in Chicago treated the wound and gave her antibiotics. The clinic in Las Vegas, saw her 3 times. Each time they prescribed more antibiotics and steroids. A human that takes too many antibiotics can mess up their digestive system. This was the 4th round of antibiotics. I stopped giving them to her because of how I felt. We took her for her 5th visit about this problem. Another doctor saw her and recommended surgically opening the wound again, while put under anesthetic. Then to top it off, he suggests doing her teeth cleaning at the same time, will somehow make it cheaper than doing only one procedure-Only 900.00 for that day cost. We already paid hundreds for the first 3 visits and meds.
We picked up our dog and took her to Cheyenne Animal Hospital. They examined her, and said the gland takes a long time to heal, but hers looks good-It's healing. They also said stop the antibiotics. They should have been stopped after 1 prescription. That was it for Banfield and my dog. I still pay the monthly charge. How could a doctor use my pet to create some windfall of money for the day at my dog's pain and suffering expense.
They were willing to cut my dog, make her wear a halo for weeks, and clean her teeth that didn't need cleaning to make 900 dollars. That was something Banfield started to push when she turned 2. Put your dog under and clean their teeth at 2 years old. I always felt like Banfield was promoting programs to make money, but for shots and routine, it seemed OK. If you want a vet that cares for animals because they love them, Banfield is out to make money-It almost seems like an incentive based sales of their programs-Take your dog to a real vet.

They told me he was fine and sent me home. The next day I took him to the Banfield in Hamilton, NJ. I told them what happened and that he only continues to get worse and that they need to fix what was done to my dog. They examined his incision without gloves! The "vet" was squeezing the puss out and then she refused to clean it because it would make the infection worse like wtf!!!
I demanded that they clean the infection and restitch him. They said that they aren't equipped to fixing these types of issues and that I'd have to go to an outside pet hospital. What the ** am I paying Banfield monthly for if they cant do their ** job. I took the to Rancocas veterinary associates and they told me that the incision was about 6-7 inches which was way too big and should have only been 2 inches, the stitching was very poor and that he has a major infection and failed to provide me antibiotics post surgery. If I didn't take my dog here he could have died. His infection would have spread to his abdomen and I would have lost my dog.
I demanded Banfield to give me my refund of nearly $400 for the ** surgery they did on my dog. Banfield pet hospital is a piece of ** and a scam. Do not bring your pet here for any reason!! They kill pets here when they don't know what is wrong with them or when you can't afford their high prices. I know this because they killed my eight month old dog when the vet could not determine the reason he was sick. Then only after she found out that we didn't have the money to cover her high cost treatment plan for our dog she told us over & over again to put our dog down. She didn't ask us she told us, we kept telling her no. She then told us their method on how they put a dog down. It made me sick & in tears. I asked for my dog back, that's is when she said that if I put him down now she would charge me and that she give me a discount on his ashes, now how sick is that! Finally after they took all the money we had which wasn't much we left with our pup.
Once we were home my dog was in a sedated state & suddenly he began breathing hard. At nine o'clock on Tuesday September 12, 2017 my puppy Goofy took his last breath & died in my arms. I believe that the vet or someone taking her orders injected my dog with something after we told her not to & they murdered my puppy Goofy. These people only care about the money you have on you. Cash first then they will determine the amount of care that they will give to your pet based on the amount of cash you're willing to give them. Do not bring your pet here if you love it and want it to live. In fact do not bring any animal here for any reason!!! Your pet's life depends on you. Please no pet parent should ever go through the agonizing pain & extreme anger toward the vet clinic that my husband & I are experiencing right now & my two other dogs Goofy's older sisters shouldn't suffer the painful heartbreak & confusion that they feel now.
They say that dogs have short term memory so they will soon forget, whoever believes that lie is just as big of an idiot as the person that first said it. I will never bring my pets here again. The price to this lesson I learned was my precious baby boy Goofy's life. There isn't anything that anyone could do that will make this right. The company can't give us back our puppy, there is no type of refund that will replace my puppy. He was just a baby pup & I thought I was doing the right thing by taking him to a vet because he was sick. I trusted these people who are wanna-be vets, to take care of my puppy, but instead they did the opposite. They killed him & demanded payment. I am going to live with this regret & guilt for the rest of my life. People who are true vets are suppose to love animals & their wellbeing the animal to any & every animal lover comes first.
The animal is top priority. Once the animal is stable then & only then do they discuss a payment treatment plan that the pet parent could afford. That is how good, honest, true animal lovers who are vets are suppose to run their clinic or office. However, these people at Banfield are there for one reason only & it isn't the pets' health or the pet parent's feelings. It's the amount that the pet parent will or can pay. This is a sick group of individuals who don't know what they are doing & should be investigated & stopped before another pet's life is taken just because their parents aren't rich. Never again will I come here or recommend anyone else too.

When I called to cancel the plan, I was informed there would be a $295.00 fee because I had already used the insurance for the year. He came up with a plan of treatment that will cost up to $400. I informed him that I only had $200 at the time and the hospital doesn't offer payment arrangement. After this point he became defensive, arrogant, rude, condescending, and patronizing. Every answer to my questions usually followed a comment about my destitute or limited means. My Mittens went from being able to survive and heal from his injuries, which he already stated was healing, to being badly hurt and in need of all his treatment options.
Once he took him to the back to clean his wounds he gave him the rabies vaccination since he didn't believe he already received it less than 2 months before. He refused to give him more than 3 days of pain medication or 1 week of antibiotics because I couldn't afford "proper" treatment for him. I was told that if I could afford the care he needs that I would have to call him 4 days later so he could tell me the new course of action he will take. But if I couldn't afford it that I should release him to P.A.W.S or the S.P.C.A so someone who can afford him could take care of him. Or if I didn't want to give him away to have him euthanized. "Because not being able to afford the treatment isn't a good enough reason not to take care of him". I wasn't aware making sure he had all his shots and taking him to 3 appointments before he was 1 year old, although twice yearly is recommended, was considered not being able afford to take care of him.
He get feed every day and was healthy in every way. Even after poorly eating for nearly a week his overall condition was still ideal with no problem to his eyes, lungs, urinary/ reproductive, general neurological, ears, heart, rectum/perineum, behavioral, mouth/ nose, abdomen, or musculoskeletal. He has been an emotional crutch for me through a heart attack, several medically related surgeries, over 40 to current date, and now alone with no companion, who supported me emotionally, unconditionally, and loyally through all those most emotional and painful experiences in my life. The day I took Wayne to have his teeth cleaned he was so elated that we were going "shopping" at PetSmart. He understood the word "PetSmart" meant that he would actually get to go into the store to shop, but I lied to Wayne, and actually took him to his death.
On July 25th, 2017 I took Wayne in at 8:00 a.m. for an early morning teeth cleaning. As I dropped him off I told them to please take care of him and that I was concerned that he would be going under anesthesia and that he was all I had and they PROMISED that he would be okay and they would take care of him! Well, they sure took care of him now didn't they?
Anyhow, I called them at 11:30 to see what the status was and they told me that they pushed his procedure back until later in the afternoon, which turned out to be 2:00 p.m. The worst part of this ordeal is that my intuition kept telling me Monday night, I didn't sleep one wink and the morning of that I should go get him and call this procedure off, but once again, I trusted that they would take care of him. They called me at 2:05 p.m. and told me that they had administered anesthesia and he went into cardiac arrest. I barely let them get the words out of their mouths and sped over to the store and arrived at 2:13. By the time I got there, I proceeded to the back and they were performing CPR. He had already passed on by that time.
I was very distraught, very emotional and unable to talk right after his passing so I decided after I had went home to give it a couple of days to settle down and setup a time to go in and see the Dr. **, so I decided I would stop there after leaving a medical appointment and was lucky enough to catch Dr. ** in the office that day. But before my departing the manager (Sonya) asked if I wanted to have a Necropsy performed and I agreed because I needed answers. Anyhow, upon arrival to speak with Dr. **, "Sonya" (manager) magically appeared, which I thought was very odd, they must have contacted her from the back office after receptionist went back to advise that I was there. Must have needed a witness I'm assuming.
Dr. ** proceeded to walk me through the event, and began to record this conversation. She basically walked me through the procedure and the events but I then asked her point blank if the anesthesia had killed him and she stated that "Yes, it had". But, she claimed that she was 10 feet away "monitoring the situation", which I don't believe. I believe that her assistant, a young vet tech which I didn't get her name, wasn't paying attention and administered too much anesthesia thus causing his heart to stop. I recently received the Necropsy results back after numerous phone calls asking for the results, any documents related to the procedure, etc. but after numerous calls they would never call back.
Finally, after all these phone calls I was able to get a voicemail from Sonya and she advised the results had been back for about 3 to 4 days. And I was able to get her to email those results to me and was told I would receive a call from a vet from a "pet hospital". The results indicated some underlying issues but nothing that would warrant my baby dying while having his teeth cleaned.
Anyhow, this 2nd vet. from a vet hospital over at the Banfield Forum PetSmart, (Brandon **) contacted me on August 5, 2017 to go over the results. Although the final statement on the Necropsy results stated "I wish I could give a clear definitive cause of death", which was a statement by the Necropsy vet not Brandon. I asked him point blank if it was the anesthesia that caused his death, he responded, "Yeah, I really think it was". I did not record the conversation, which I should have, but didn't think it was necessary. I didn't realize he worked for the same company, Sondra the Manager at the 1604/281 PetSmart told me a secondary opinion vet would call me, not a Banfield associate, to go over the results. I was surprised that he too would admit that the anesthesia was the result of my Wayne's death.
I've spoke with two attorneys recently and they advised there was really no legal recourse and was advised to file a complaint, but really now, how is that going to accomplish justice for Wayne? A slap on the hand and a pay more attention to what you're doing to the vet in question? A too bad, so sad for you, life goes on statement? These vets know there is no legal recourse for us animal lovers I believe. They know that a person who really wants justice, but doesn't have the thousands of dollars to proceed with legal action to punish them for the actions, is in their favor. They can go on with their lives and keep putting animals lives in their hands, and keep on performing in a negligent manner, but hey, as long as it keeps generating revenue right? So the moral of my story is NEVER, EVER again will I take any animal, if I choose to replace Wayne, to a Banfield Pet Hospital ever again and if you do, think twice because this may happen to you too.

I should have heeded the advice from other people about Banfield. I adopted a cat from a local shelter a week ago. The shelter gave me a coupon for 50% off the membership fee for the wellness plan. I guess I got caught up in the emotions of wanting to take good care of my newly adopted cat. I took my cat in for a wellness exam the same week and he was having medical issues. The problem with the wellness plan is that Banfield knows that they can make the most money from issues that are not covered in the plan. My cat had to be put to sleep exactly a week from the day I got him.
Banfield's plan is not designed to handle the real issues that cost the most money. In two visits, I was charged for the entire amount of the plan. My cat is gone and now I am expected to pay a year's worth of premiums for the little care that they gave him. They do not provide a price list so that you know exactly what their services cost. They play on the emotions of new pet owners and run up your bill without giving you a chance to evaluate your financial situation. Banfield is all about the money. They are an uncompassionate company.

I had the most horrible experience with Banfield in Philadelphia and Cherry Hill NJ. I feel these places do not have qualified veterinarians. I have a 1 year old pitbull terrier that was swimming in a lake and most likely bit by a snapper turtle as she have multiple wounds on her tail and appeared to be fractured. We took her to Banfield Philadelphia the very next day and explained the occurrence. They provided us with a pain killer and a topical antibiotic. The situation worsened and we took her at least once a week for close to a month for check ups.
On week 3 we took her to the Banfield in Cherry Hill NJ. They informed us that the treatment she was on was not aggressive enough and we would need to pretty much start from scratch again and there might be possible tail amputation. We then take her back a week later for a follow up and now they are suggestion tail amputation. I am furious as if they would of done due diligence the 1st time around we might of been able to save her tail. I feel like a horrible pet parent for taking my baby here and wish I would of known what I know now. Only reason why I took her to Banfield was because of the Wellness program that I am enrolled in. I am saddened that my little girl has to have her tail cut off because of their negligence.

I got an account here to specifically leave a review of Banfield. If I could give less than one star I certainly would. Our 4 year old dog Jack started having seizures last January. He'd have 2 in one day, two to three weeks apart. This has been continuous. Banfield said they had no idea why he was having seizures, but prescribed **. I did not give them to Jack, wanting to know WHY he was having seizures. We never got an answer. They actually didn't seem to care one way or another.
I ask the girl at the counter if I can pay first so we won't have to worry about it afterward. She said no, the vet needs to talk to us first. When the vet shows up she tells us she thinks Jack has epilepsy and that can be treated. And she's uncomfortable putting down such a young dog. I ask her where was she in January when we wanted to know what was going on? By now Jack has had so many seizures he is not the same dog. I suppose she thought we woke up in the morning and arbitrarily decided to put down one of our dogs. Heartless. Do yourselves and your pets a favor and find an actual vet that cares. Because Banfield misses the mark on all counts.

I took my 70+ pounds dog for teeth cleaning and nail trim to Banfield Pet Hospital at 7:30 am. When I picked him about 4 pm as instructed. He was totally out of it: could hardly walk, vomiting, diarrhea, stumbling around, disoriented, didn't eat or drink and just followed me around as if he wants me to make it better. I took him back to Banfield less than two hours later. They took him back then came out and told me he was fine and he was okay. I took him home but he was not better. He didn't sleep, vomiting and diarrhea continued. I returned with to Banfield at 7:30 am the next morning. After a while a different vet told me to give him a medication for several days because he had a reaction to the anesthesia or too much anesthesia but he was going to be OK. It took about 2 weeks for my dog to return to normal.
Don't trust what they tell you, they are only interested in making money at the expense of your pets' health.

I wish I would have read these reviews before I got suckered into getting the useless wellness plan. Twice now my dog needed medical attention and they refused to see her. I was told that I have the Wellness plan and that it covers wellness not sick or injured. Well put the wellness plan aside are they not a vet? Are they not called 'Banfield Pet HOSPITAL'??? Does that not mean that they should take care of my pet if they are healthy or get sick? I called them on July 18th. I asked if I could bring my dog in. She was sick, bloody diarrhea. They said they could not get her in. So I asked for the next day, again they could not get her in.
I asked about July 26th, my next day off from work, again no. I was told I could bring her in August 5th. Are you serious??? My dog may be dead by then!!! So I called her old vet and was able to bring her in that night. They have this ridiculous drop off service that just does not work with my work schedule. And why in the world would I want my dog, who is already not feeling well, to be locked up in a cage all day??? They DO NOT care about the well being of your pet at all. I'm stuck paying for the useless wellness plan for the remainder of the year. It's even hard to make an appointment for her regular wellness visits. It's a major scam.

Let this be known I made this account JUST to review Banfield Pet Hospital. My boyfriend and I have a 12 week old pug puppy and were on the search to find the best/affordable vet. We went to Banfield under a recommendation from a friend. I saw online they had a free consultation, so we scheduled an appointment to come in for that.
FIRST PROBLEM: I "requested" an appointment online without realizing it was not a confirmed thing, so when the day of my appointment had come I had not received any calls/messages. I called and they told me they had called and left a message, but I never got anything so we had to reschedule for the next week. She offered me both 10am or 330. I chose 330pm.
SECOND PROBLEM: The day was approaching for our appointment and they called to confirm. The person who has rescheduled for us scheduled us for 10am when I reiterated the fact we wanted 330!!! She said, "We can reschedule for next week," I said no. We're already pushed back a week. We will come in. THIRD PROBLEM: We start our appointment and the doctor starts telling us all of these things she will be doing for our puppy today and how much they will cost. Wait a minute, wasn't this a FREE consultation? I got so distracted by her telling us everything and us not understand what she was going to do that I forgot to reiterate that we were only there for the free consultation. So before we know it, everything they're doing today is going to cost us $200!!! Unless we get on the optimum wellness plan and it will be $79.
She goes on to explain to us that the neutering procedure will cost us about $400 anywhere else so it's a great deal to get on the plan where you pay $500 a year. We didn't know the difference so we signed up for the plan BEING THAT SHE TOLD US WE HAD A 4 DAY GRACE PERIOD TO DECIDE IF WE WANTED TO CANCEL.
FOURTH PROBLEM: We call our hometown vet to find out neutering is $90 there so we say NO WAY and I call to cancel our wellness plan with Banfield. Turns out a grace period is not a grace period because to get out of our contract we have to pay the full $200 for the vet visit where our puppy didn't even advance in his puppy shots. We paid $200 for samples to be taken and one shot to be done. ALL IN ALL HUGE RIPOFF. DO NOT LET THEM TRICK YOU LIKE THEY DID US.

When dealing with your pet, you want a 4-5 star rating. Nothing but the best. While in Savannah, GA I had that with Banfield. Everyone was great and nice. In Rhode Island, they wouldn't listen to me. I told them that I was bringing my male cat in for crystals as a drop off. I have had him for 6 years and I know every symptom he gives me that tells me he has it before it gets bad. And the doctor called me and says, "I felt his bladder, it doesn't feel like he has crystals or a UTI, he can go home." I was dumbfounded! Are you friggin kidding me! That isn't how you do an exam on a male cat first of all for crystals. And that certainly isn't how you look for crystals in the urine.
That is just a symptom that only shows up if the symptoms are bad enough! And my cat almost never has that symptom because we catch it in time! I sent him back and said, look again. Draw your pee sample and look at his penis. Do your freaking job so I don't get attacked tonight and have to live in fear of my cat because he's in pain. 20 minutes more? Guess what, he has crystals. Good job. Guess what else, they didn't give me the option for the liquid version of the medication and wouldn't let me send back the pills to switch it out.
I said, my cat throws up the pill form no matter what. I will crush it, I will pill pocket it (which he no longer likes with or without the pill), I will shove it down his throat, I will let him swallow it -- he will always throw it up until he is throwing up phlegm. All the front desk people did was give me a total. Not to mention I am also 100% sure they sedated him without telling me which stressed him out even more. It's one thing to ask, it's another thing to just do it. I know this because I gave my cat a bath afterwards and he was limp. My cat has never acted like that in the bath and he had diarrhea everywhere probably because of it because he's never been like that ever.
Like I said, I have never had any issue with the Savannah, GA Banfield. I love local vets a ton more than Banfield anyways but Banfield worked for my cat and I since we were constantly moving. Savannah was good. But, here - they were absent minded and instead of taking care of you and the pet they took care of their job and the time. My boy is never going to be put through that situation again and is going to see people who care more for the animals they care for and the family that have relationships with those animals.

These people are con artists. The insurance is a load of crap. The staff seems suspicious. They're nice until you sign up for their insurance. My cat could have been saved. And I don't know any vet that takes your pet behind closed doors, for simple things. Then tell you they'll bring him out in a few, even though he was done. They said he was comfortable, & I should sit down. I got a sick feeling in my stomach. And after researching, they throw them in wire cages in the back. I can't go into details of how horrible, & untrustworthy every employee is. Not enough room. But I will say, the most important thing to them, is to sell their fake insurance. THEY KILLED MY CAT. Bottom line. They were absolutely cold, & uncaring, & definitely did not do anything to save my baby. They told me I should give my cat to someone that could actually care for him. While I'm crying my eyes out.
This cat was the most important thing in my life. He, is what I woke up in the morning for. He, is what I lived for. By the time I took him elsewhere, it was too late. Then, they had the nerve to have a collection agency call me. I asked the woman, "do you know anything about who you're trying to collect for?" She said, "no." I said, "you might want to check them out. They will never get 1¢ from me. Don't you ever call this number again." And I hung up. I could go on, & on, but won't. 1 last thing, when I tried to pick up the medicine, I had already spent almost everything I had. So, I asked them if I could pick up half now. Pharmacies do that for us, all the time. They said no. I felt I wasn't even in the company of Human Beings. No expression, & definitely no compassion. I warn everyone. But it's not enough. How did they manage to get an A+ rating on BBB? I urge everyone to spread the word. They will let your animal die, without even blinking.

Everytime I went in, for regular checkups, they suggested us to buy some type of antibiotic or ointment which was not in the plan but at a discount. More than half the time we ended up not using the prescribed medication and our dog is fine. My two other pets never had these type of medications prescribed and lived very long lives.
Any other visits, although the office visit was free, we were given prescriptions to heal things such as rashes, itching etc. Home remedies actually worked better than the prescribed MEDICATION. I decided to terminate the contract at the end of the term and they have it on record not to renew but because I had not paid the last $10 they said the contract could not be cancelled. WhaaaT!! She was prescribed a medication, I was not given instructions on how to administer it. India was not getting better and still not eating. I left several messages with the vet to please call me. I did not receive any return phone calls. I made an appointment with another vet. When I went to Banfield to obtain her medical records the employee behind the counter grinned as if something was funny.
My India Bleu passed away on June the 17th. I called up the Wellness Plan to cancel the insurance. I was told that I owed 900.00 on the plan. I informed them that India Bleu didn't even use all the services on the plan and I had spent close to 3000.00. They in return told my their records showed I only spent 200.00. I was told I would have to call Banfield, which I did. I'm still waiting for a return phone call, I'm not surprised by this considering that when India Bleu's condition was noted as guarded I could not get a return phone call the vets treating her. I called Banfield, to whom we have paid approximately $400 a year over many years for the 'optimum wellness plan' services, at 5:00 pm. They told me they were too busy to see her before closing at 7:00 and that I should take her to the pet emergency clinic in my area. I insisted that they see her, and took her there. After a cursory examination of her paw, she was sent home with ** and another appointment 4 days later, as they couldn't fit her in before that. She spent the next 4 days in extreme pain, still unable to walk on her paw, and then we returned. Because they had scheduled the appointment for late in the day, they didn't wish to perform any X-rays at that time so gave her more pain meds and made another appointment for her the next day.
Today they finally took X-rays and shaved her paw but still didn't do anything else. This cost was over $300.00 and she is still in pain and cannot walk. While I was waiting to pick her up early in this afternoon, another client called and reported that her dog had bloody stools and was very sick. I heard the Banfield associate tell her they didn't have time for an emergency appointment today. Why pay these people when they won't see your pet when he has an emergency need for veterinary care?
Also I want to comment that although their wellness plan includes a yearly dental cleaning, at each and every cleaning the veterinarian has discovered that at least one tooth needs to be extracted. Of course extractions are not included in the wellness contract, so every teeth cleaning has resulted in extra costs. Fortunately my annual contract is ending next month and I have cancelled future payments to this money-making operation and will take my dog to another veterinarian from now on.

The 3rd time the doctor was downright mean to my puppy who received multiple shots that day. My puppy now has developed a fear of the going to this place. During all 5 appointments I mentioned he was itching a lot and had been exposed to ringworm. This past weekend I had to drive to Atlanta and I called them asking them to call him in some relief for the itching and told them I would bring him in a day or two. They refused to call him in anything for relief and I during the conversation I found out that they had not even notated my concern in his records. So what am I paying for here? So I decided I was over this place and I went to a different vet who was recommended. So back to the vet we went. Another 500.00 and we were told she had an upper respiratory infection. She came home on antibiotics and still she got worse. A few days later they refer us to another vet who diagnosed her with A very large brain tumor. Two days later sadly we had to have her put to sleep. We had paid in full for the year 15 days prior. I called Banfield because we NEVER used any of the services (shots, dental cleaning, heartworm testing) other than the 3 office visits to ask if any of the 500.00 we paid for the wellness plan could be refunded. We were told no because we used the service for 2 weeks. Mind you in those 2 weeks we paid them another 482.00 and 513.00 ON top of the 500.00 for the wellness plan.
I advise anyone thinking of investing in this plan to rethink it. They are definitely in it for the money and not for the love of the animals. I will say the second Banfield we went to the vet was amazing. She knew something was very wrong. Instead of putting my girl through unneeded tests. She sent us to A specialist. The cat had a severe ear infection, and she eventually died. I finally contacted Banfield Pet Hospital to tell them that I needed to cancel my contract since the cat died. They told me that I will still have to make payments in April, 02 2017 until January, of 2018. How Heartless!
I lost my job and told them that the checking account was in the process of being closed. (No Funds.) They continued to take out payments and the first representative didn't give me an option to come in and make a payment before the next month's draft. How Heartless! I told her it would be so hard to come in and automatically pay for our dead cat that's not with us anymore! How Heartless! They don't care that our family has a void with Cuddles gone now, and just want their money. It seems that there should be some consideration for benevolence situations. They're so heartless!

I bought the insurance for my kitten, it ended up having a stomach disorder and I was grateful to have it. When my son came home from college the kitten escaped and was run over by a car. I had explained this to Banfield, they also said it was a contract and I as obligated to continue to pay for the insurance. Really??? That does not make sense to me. Does that make sense to anyone else? I asked if I could transfer the insurance to another pet and they said no. I have since been in collections, that was the fall of 2011. What a bunch of bologna. I will never use them again nor would I recommend anyone else. It is like extortion or the Mafia. I wont even shop at Petsmart either.

They misdiagnosed (or did not do their job in properly diagnosing). An issue my mother had with her dog. When she was having serious problems and could not stand on her hind legs, they refused to see her (after being a good paying patient for several years) and referred her to an emergency dog clinic. That doc diagnosed her with several problems. One being she would never walk again due to the cancer he found that this place never did after several regular check up visits!!!! She had to put her down. Her regular vet should have seen her, helped come to this conclusion, helped my mother say goodbye after being her doctor for several years. Shame on this place -- burn in hell.

I had a scheduled appointment and arrived 10 minutes early. An emergency came in and had to wait 20 minutes which was fine. I asked at 1 pm if I'm next they proceeded to tell me that I was not checked in and couldn't find me in the system. I found the person that checked me in and asked her "Well... Been waiting here since 11:20 am." "Oh they didn't tell you I can't see you today and needs to be rescheduled?" 3 hrs. later you tell me I'm not going to be seen when I been sitting here and you see me! The receptionist was rude, slow and didn't care, acted like she didn't see me sitting next to her! I demanded my paperwork back and has the nerve to ask me if I want to reschedule! I would never step foot in that place ever again. I was not the only problem two other customers were complaining while I was there. Wasted my only day off in that place. Should be shut down with all the bad reviews they got.

My dog was given too much anesthesia during dental cleaning. I was not told that it is harder for an older dog to recuperate from it until I called about my dog's symptoms. I called and was told to wait 48 hrs. By Wednesday I was told to give him **. Then on Thursday I took him back because he was still sick and lethargic with diarrhea and vomiting and bloody urine. Could barely stand and in pain they kept him then sent him home with diarrhea meds. I was told they didn't see any blood but he was still listless.
Friday he couldn't stand and was worse. Was told to drop him off again and the doctor would see him after surgery. I told them "no way" then they said he would check him in between. Hour later they called to tell me he needed to go to the hospital because he had worsened with fever, bloody urine, inflamed prostrate and bladder. Took him to the hospital right away and they tried everything but he couldn't recover - his little body has massive infection. I feel like I failed my dog listening to those doctors. He would still be here if I would not have kept waiting as they told me to or not have been told about the anesthesia prior to his cleaning.

I took my senior dog to Banfield to be examined for a benign growth that needed to be removed. During the exam the vet and I discussed teeth cleaning too. When I asked for an estimate he came back with a 2 1/2 page itemized estimate, which most of it was unidentifiable medical jargon, between $1300.00 and $1800.00!! I knew from the get-go this was a rip off! So, I made an appointment with my dog's old vet ~ whose practice is more than 40 years old and passed the reigns to his veterinarian sons. He took a blood sample to ensure that there were no underlying issues that would prevent a general anesthesia to remove the growth and clean his teeth. That was $150. But the quote for the surgery was under $500 and on the day of my dog's surgery the bill came to $342.
The other issue with Banfield is they really try to hard sell the Wellness program. Buyer beware! If your pet dies you are still liable for the remaining membership! They may transfer the program to a "new" pet ~ but what if that doesn't happen right away. You are still paying for the membership with no pet! Lastly, Banfield apparently has issues with retaining qualified veterinarians. This particular office (located in PetSmart) had only one vet and we had to wait a week to just get an exam appointment. They also said scheduling surgery could be up to four weeks. Granted my dog was not in an emergency but four weeks!? All in all this is a VERY shady business with the pricing alone being a huge rip off. Because Banfield is associated with PetSmart I will be taking all my pet care needs to other more reputable businesses.

My husband and I were stupid enough to think the wellness plan was a good idea. They were so friendly and welcoming until my dog got sick. We paid out of pocket for almost everything, every time we went. My dog got very sick, but Banfield did not have the experience to treat him so they sent us to another vet. $2000 later, we had to put our beloved German Shepherd down. I was heart broken. They even charged us to give him the pink shot. They charged us to take his remains away. THEN I find out that I still out almost a whole year of payments for "services received".
I don't believe they did anything to help my dog. They are just money grubbing opportunist who take advantage of folks in pain, or folks trying to save money. Save??? Hah!!! You'll go to collections over this and ruin your credit. So keep paying up, even though they didn't do ONE THING to help my dog. We even had to pay for his medicine out of pocket. NOTHING was covered under the plan, yet somehow, he received hundreds of dollars worth of lab tests. I HATE them.

I actually give this pet hospital zero stars, but it made me put in something so I selected 1 star. Took the vets there 3 months to figure out something was wrong with my puppy. Had to finally see a specialist. Now my puppy passed away at 9 months, and on the day she died, I called to get an appointment, but was told they are all booked up. When I asked if she thought I should bring her to the emergency vet, she said, "I don't know. I am not a Vet." She didn't review my puppy's file, ask me what was wrong, or go and speak with the vet that was there to get her/his opinion. No customer service or help at all!
Now I am trying to cancel the Wellness plan, and I am being told I have to keep paying for it for 4 more months, because I have "used" more money than I have paid for. They are telling me I have used $787 worth of services in October, November and December! So that would be for her shots and being weighed?!? I haven't been there since January and that wasn't covered at all, so I had to pay $218 for that visit that day. This wellness plan is a crock of **. After being somewhat dissatisfied with Banfield throughout the last 11 months, the final thing that happened... called last Monday to make arrangements for a heartworm shot and was told that NO APPOINTMENT WAS NEEDED just for the shot. That was after they tried to tell me that an examination was required since it was too long since our dog's last physical (3 weeks). When we were there for his physical, they said I had to wait 2 more weeks before they were able to give him the heartworm shot. SO, called back last Saturday to find out if they were busy, 5 days after being told that no appointment was necessary, and was told that we MUST have an appointment... for a shot that takes what amount of time to administer - 30 seconds??? Oh, then they came up with... You can drop him off at 8:00 AM, and pick him up at 5 PM, and we'll give it to him during that time. Does that make any sense at all?
Who in their right mind would leave their dog caged up all day just to get a shot that takes... (again) 30 seconds at most to administer???? These people have no concept of logic. How would they like to be kept in a cage all day long for something that takes 30 seconds? Since I am writing this, here's a little more - the Downingtown, PA facility is filthy. While WAITING in the examination room we took a look around, the floors are filthy, grungy filthy. A previous vet that we had mopped the floors between customers, but then that was a REAL Veterinarian that we had before moving. And the money that Banfield claims to be saving you by having their "insurance plan", it's a big ripoff. READERS - Choose your veterinarian provider carefully. There are lots of viable options for very good quality pet care. I have not found Banfield to be one of them.

The manager made me feel like he was giving me some kind of deal and even told me how I can get out of this wellness plan ANYTIME WITHOUT ANY COSTS/FEES. He totally took advantage of me and my ignorance. I am a single mother of two young children and shorty after we rescued our kittens, we were told we had no other choice but to get rid of them due to our apartment complex rules and regulations. It was so hard to mentally give them away like that and to try to explain that to two very young girls. I then went to cancel my wellness plan and the man I spoke to over the phone told me I'd be paying well over 300 for EACH kitten in order to cancel their plans. I was so crushed but went ahead and paid it over time.
I thought I was done and ready to start moving forward when I got a call from them telling me I still owe an additional 187 for each kitten in order to cancel!!! I am LIVID!!! I literally have them every last penny I had. I live paycheck by paycheck at this point and am behind in my bills because I choose to impulsively "pay off" the debt to Banfield wellness plan when in reality, IT'S ALL A SCAM!!!

Come November he became very lethargic and shaking, I was out of town so my wife tried getting him the Banfield vet since we have a wellness program. They declined to see him. They said they were too busy for two days following. We took him to a local vet. They ran some tests. Found out his liver counts were way up. Took him to a local pet hospital. They did a liver ultrasound and found a large tumor on his liver that was cancerous.
This didn't happen overnight and in June they said they ran internal organ wellness tests. Never saw them take blood though. It cost me over $2000 to find this out. Had to put my beloved JR down after 12 1/2 years. Then I tried to quit the wellness program. No one answers the phone. Sent an email to them explaining the situation and that my pet passed away but still they kept charging my credit card. I paid six months of the wellness program. I took my son's dog in today, initially for a well checkup as per his plan but Maggie ended up hurting her leg so I asked them to please look at it and let me know. They called me back saying she was ready and I asked about her leg. Their response was that it seems fine back there. I explained it's not fine. She is not bearing weight on it. So they said "well I guess we could walk her around the store to see". Then they call me back to say that there is definitely something wrong! Duhhh! They request to do a X-ray for $180.00 and I approve that. They call me back and said the dr can't see anything but she wants to send them to an orthopedic to read. I say I'd like to talk to the dr. first and they say she'll call me back.
Now, mind you, they have been calling my number ALL morning and the dr. calls my son. I'm watching his dog while he works in Dallas so he has no idea when she calls what is going on except that she was limping last night. He asks dr. to call me and she says "aren't you the owner?" They further says "I'm afraid it's fractured! I need your approval" so he obliges and calls me immediately! I try calling her back and am put on hold for 15 minutes!! By the time they answer me, they say it's too late, it's already sent off and that they have approval. When the dr. calls me with results I let her know I wasn't happy because I was going to wait and see if it improved over the next couple days and if not then I would approve reading it. She goes into telling me that it could be premature arthritis and pure bred dogs are more susceptible to diseases than regular dogs. What!!!
Anyway I brought my dog Dixie to Banfield for years and this is the first time I felt played. Very disappointed! Going to write review on every site I find. And to top it all off (I was going to just chalk it up in my memory) they just now call me to say they forgot to give me her ** so I'd need to come back. I've heard/read so many complaints about this Wellness Plan and the actual location (on Oakton in Evanston, IL) on where I take my two dogs and now it's my turn to add my two cents! I've taken my two dogs there for the last 9 1/2 years. Over the last three years this practice has gone through a not so good change. I feel as though this location is where these doctors are there completing an internship for both the doctors, assistants and the reception help.
First ever emergency I've ever had was last Tuesday, 4/18. I thought my dog was dehydrated and would not walk on her left back foot and they couldn't get me in until 3 days later, and suggested that if it was an emergency then go over to Blue Pearl emergency care and I did. Blue Pearl ran blood test, hip x-ray, liver ultrasound (suffering from a bad case of arthritis), they gave me meds for and said to follow up with my normal vet (Banfield). I called them to arrange and follow-up as instructed and concerns that I had on the meds and their side effects and my dog's current status which was not doing that great. They never returned my call and I paid them a visit on Saturday, 4/22 to have both my dogs' records printed so that I can transfer them to another VET. Just pitiful.
NOW for this Wellness Plan "it's awful" to say the least. You're always coming out of pocket for something for the patient's portion and I think for the doctors portion is INFLATED so that you have to stay in this plan until your policy is set to expire! I just called to cancel my plan and they told me that the services that I had over the last 6 months were very high and if I wanted to cancel and stop auto-deduct then I would have to pay upfront an $400+ overage of what has been billed by the doctor (and that's just for one of my dogs). I was like what? TOTAL SCAM! So now I have to just let the coverage expire and continue to pay the monthly premium for the next 5 months and not renew! Can I just say, "total scam" if you do not read the fine print! This sucks and I'm completely disappointed with this Wellness Plan and the VET office. I've paid out more money on this plan and the patient's portion than it was worth. Just pitiful.

Our vet, Dr. Denise **, is absolutely wonderful. The reviews for this company are way off. It's not the entire company that's terrible, it's the offices. The staff at my Banfield is wonderful. The front desk girls are so sweet and welcoming, my dog loves them - and I feel 100% confident if I ever have to leave my dog there for a procedure. I mean seriously... For the price you would pay at a typical vet, $53 a month isn't bad. I have been taking my dog to Banfield Pet Hospital for the last 11 years. I pay $37.00 per month for the wellness plan. Wednesday my dog went in for a wellness check with these concerns. She has not been eating well and has been losing weight. She also had an occasional cough. They did a blood test, gave her 3 different booster shots. They said that she had an enlarged heart and that was the cause of her problems. They offered more tests for around $400.00, which we declined after looking up enlarged heart on the internet. By Wednesday night she could not stand, walk, or barely respond. Breathing heavy and acting as though she was in pain. A call from Banfield on Thursday all this was conveyed to them. They said call if it does not get better.
On Friday early, we called Banfield to take her in. They told us there were no openings Friday or Saturday and that we should take her to another vet. We took her to a local vet with all the paperwork from the Banfield checkup. Within 20 minutes this Vet looking at Banfield's blood test said that there are at least 5 or 6 things here that are huge red flags. She explained them all and said "I believe she has some sort of cancer." An x-ray confirmed a grapefruit-sized tumor on her spleen. That combined with the poor blood counts (I believe accelerated by her booster shots). My lovable, wonderful, warm friend was put down today! I could have had another couple days or weeks. NOW, Banfield wants me to pay the $37.00 until the end of August. PEOPLE BEWARE!!!

Then during the exam, they gave me a laundry list of issues that needed to be addressed, and of course the wellness plan would be an ideal way to have most of the issues covered (how convenient)... I had them do the eye drop test and then they gave us some antibiotic eye ointment and I went on my merry way... I got out easy even though the ointment they prescribed is only 15 dollars online rather than the 45 dollars they charged. I wish I would've checked Banfield out more thoroughly before I took my puppies there! They talked me into purchasing their wellness plan for my 2 puppies with the promise of free visits, immunizations, neutering. What they didn't tell me, until the manager just admitted it, but recanted after being afraid of her medical director's retaliation, was that they are SO UNDERSTAFFED that I'd never be able to get my puppies seen there!!! I was told to take them to an emergency vet when they were sick. This cost me 300.00.
Also, they have staff that wear white coats and pretend to be vets and they are not!! They gave me the wrong medication for my puppies after their neutering and now are trying to cover it up!!! If you try to quit the wellness plan they will hound you and threaten your credit by turning you into a collection agency. Forget about talking to corporate or even a manager!!! That part is a joke for they won't give out medical director's information. They told me to go to another vet and prove they gave my dogs the wrong medication. The manager is so rude and hateful it was uncomfortable talking to her. If you see Banfield, run the other way!!!

After checking your pet, they print a very long list of items that they pretend are problems that your pet has. They lie, lie, lie. They have people working for them that wear white jackets and you assume they're veterinarians. They're NOT!!! I took a small Lhasa Apso to them for 7 years and my dog was healthy. They ripped me off for $4,000.
I got another lhasa after my 1st lhasa died and I now go to a Low-Cost Spay & Neuter near my house. They are HONEST and it costs a few dollars. Also, they don't tell me that my dog needs her teeth cleaned every 6 months - a BIG money-maker for Banfield as that costs several hundred dollars a pop. Plus your pet is given anesthesia - dangerous. They could just use a metal pick and remove the plaque. If you’re not near a Low-Cost vet go to one of your local vets but Google their name(s) and check out Yelp for honest vets. Banfield should be taken down!!!! They're owned by Mars candy bar company.

This is in regards to Belleville, MI location recently "acquired" by LegacyVet/Banfield. I have been going to this animal hospital for years now and seeing the same doctor, who was let go when the acquisition happened. I will be going to his own clinic now. Last week, my dog was groomed at another location. Since she is old, she has some skin tags/adenomas. One was clipped during a brushing and I noticed over the weekend it was oozy and a little bloody. I called Monday (3/27) to schedule an appointment to have it looked at. They suggested I simply make the appointment for Tuesday (3/28) to have it removed, rather than just having it examined. Reluctantly I agreed.
Sometime during the day, my dog's cyst had ruptured or she'd bitten it, because she was covered in blood in the surrounding area! This increased my worry of infection, as I felt a hard lump under the usually superficial cyst. I brought her into the vet office where she was promptly taken from me and I was told "We can do this with a local anesthetic. It shouldn't take more than an hour." I was not brought into an exam room to voice my concerns, to ask questions, or to have the procedure explained to me. I returned nearly an hour later and was not addressed in the waiting room. After about another 45 minutes, I asked the receptionist, "Is my dog still alive?" (jokingly, to ease my own nerves) to which she replied "let me go find out..." This is NOT how you talk to a nervous pet parent!!!
After paying an OUTRAGEOUS amount - which did not include a sedative, even, for my nervous dog - or antibiotics or pain meds - I was finally brought into an exam room (waiting another 45 minutes), thinking the doctor herself would bring my dog in to me and discuss the procedure, after-care, etc. No. A tech brought in my anxious dog with her bloody incision, handed me the leash, and walked away as he said "Have a nice day." No "Do you have any questions?" I stopped him and demanded someone come speak to me.
Finally the doctor came in, disheveled, saying she had back to back procedures that day. Is that my fault/problem? How am I supposed to feel knowing that the DVM is overbooked? How is any pet parent supposed to feel knowing the procedures are probably being rushed and their pet is being caged up until a room is available for discharge? My dog has anxiety. She was likely in a cage in the back for hours before she was given to me.
The doctor did not discuss the procedure or after-care with me; rather, she waited for me to ask questions. I asked "What is this lump underneath? It's rock hard and worries me." She did not have a straight answer for me other than that it would "go away on its own." I expressed that I was worried about it becoming infected underneath, and she said that "it would be fine" as my dog's temperature had been normal before the procedure...?
I didn't feel that she wanted to be talking to me any longer and was too busy, so I went home. She told me to call back if I had any questions. I called back as soon as I got home. I told the receptionist who answered that I felt I was just shuffled out the door, and she said "Yeah... Let me get a tech." A tech picked up after a few minutes asking what the problem was, and stated, "The doctor said she already talked to you about all of this." ??? Okay, so my concerns are no longer valid? I said, "I am concerned about the hard lump under my dog's incision, that she was not given pain meds or antibiotics, and was not told any after-care instructions for this wound or what signs I should look for in case of infection." She again said, "You don't have anything to worry about. Put a onesie on your dog to keep her off the sutures." A ONESIE? She then asked "What? Did your dog even have done?"
This tech, who was supposed to be easing my concerns, did not even have my dog's chart in front of her. Everyone in that office was just itching to go home. If you are in any kind of health care - be it for people or animals - you commit yourself to go above and beyond for the welfare of OTHERS, even if it means staying a few minutes later when your "shift" is over. This place operates like a factory now that it is "franchised" and I will not be taking my dog back there. Overbooked veterinarians mean less patient-centered care, rushed visits, and could ultimately harm our beloved pets. I am disgusted.

Somehow I was advised into getting an Optimum Wellness Plan because the dog has bad breath and was told all her teeth needed to be extracted and it would be cheaper if I accepted the plan. I have not been able to pay for the plan or take the dog for the extraction because is too expensive. I am constantly being harassed with phone calls to pay this plan that I cannot afford. I am a senior citizen and this has been extremely difficult for me. What is confusing to me I bought the dog PEDIGREE DENTASTIX and Arm & Hammer Dental Water Additive and the dog no longer has bad breath and seems a very happy little dog. I may have to give up on my dog and take to a shelter if I am forced to pay for this plan.

Our cat, Layla, started to limp while I was out of town on a business trip. The second day she was limping my 12 year old daughter took Layla to Banfield in Pleasant Hill, California where she was diagnosed with an ingrown claw. Banfield recommended immediate surgery to fix the claw and had my daughter leave Layla with them. My daughter picked Layla up several hours later and was told that the claw was removed and that Layla had stitches that would fall out in a few days. Then they charged her $759 for the visit and the surgery. Layla chewed the bandage off of her foot later that same day. No stitches! And, her claw had not been removed - it was still intact! Layla had only a tiny, tiny red spot on her paw where her claw had grown long enough around to poke into the pad of her paw. Banfield simply clipped the claw to shorted it and the problem was fixed.
Clearly a simple pair of claw clippers fixed the problem. So why the lie to my 12 year old about surgery and stitches and claw removal? I supposed as an avenue to turn a $50 routine visit into a very lucrative one. I can not believe that Banfield lies like this and to a CHILD! They told my child that her cat needed surgery! Can you imagine how upset and worried she was? What dishonest, terrible, horrible people they are! And then they stole money from her - they charged her almost $800 to clip a toenail!!! WHAT is WRONG with those people? NEVER take your animal to Banfield! NEVER, NEVER, NEVER!!!

1st puppy visit: Very disappointed and disgusted with this animal hospital, I brought my puppy's shot record and this hospital claimed that the records were not legit because the previous owner purchased the vaccines and gave the shots herself to the puppy and because of that they had to start over (LIES) another way to take your money, if that's the case then how do diabetics stick themselves at home so it's legal for a human to do so but not an animal... then they tried to convince me into signing a 12 months $35 dollar a month contract for unlimited visit.
Think about it, one minute who really takes their dog or cat to the vet monthly unless the animal has an incurable disease that needs frequent visits. Thank god I wasn't dumb enough to sign then they didn't even returned my old shot record claimed, they couldn't find it (hmmm wonder why). I submitted a review about the visit someone did call me back. She was worse than the place. She acted as she didn't even care. I hate this place. They are rip offs. Their prices are ridiculous. I should had did my homework before just walking in there $255.00 dollars later for my puppy's first visit, guess in the end they won but that's ok. They will never get another red cent out of me and hopefully not others who read this.

I was excited when I got Simba my Chow enrolled in Banfield’s Wellness Plan where I paid a monthly fee for his vet visits, for his shots, surgery discounts and health visits. My main purpose was for the fact that we knew he had Entropion which is a common issue in larger Chows knowing he would need that done. When I first enrolled in the plan we knew he would need the surgery done and they told us we could get it done there and at a discount 10% rate. It's an expensive surgery so it would be beneficial. The surgery couldn't be done until he was a bit older because his face had to grow before they did it or it could do more harm than benefit.
As time went on and I paid for the plan it came time to where he could have the surgery done. Well my Banfield location decided THEN they were going to go back on their word. They didn't want to do it. They didn't feel comfortable. I argued and complained about it for sometime before they decided to tell me that there was a Banfield doctor far away from my convenience that would do it but ONLY, ONLY, ONLY if I got him fixed at the same time. I told them I did not want him fixed. I had a male and a female for a reason. They knew that from the get-go but after arguing with the corporate office in a BBB dispute I noticed they enrolled me in a wellness plan for neuter which costed more even though I told the lady I didn't want him neutered so it's like they planned it all along. So basically they told me either I get him fixed OR my dog would be in pain and they would do nothing about it.
I ended up having to go to a different vet and pay full price for the surgery, meds, anesthesia, etc then pay for the stitches to be removed following surgery for full price. I contacted Banfield and complained. They contacted me. I complained. Told them what happened. Nothing got resolved. I didn't receive the benefits listed for what I signed up for and what they signed me up for without telling me (the neuter) but Banfield still expects their money? I felt as if Banfield was underqualified to provide the care for my family member and I didn't want to take him back... I didn't feel comfortable and the fact I was lied to and conned into the agreement by being given falsely provided information made me not trust them. Banfield breached the agreement not myself by providing a disservice to my dog which is my family member to where I had to go elsewhere.
So Banfield terminated the relationship as my family vet not myself. Now they sent my account to collections on my credit report. I paid money monthly until this happened. Afterwards I didn't want anything to do with their vet office. They're vet doctors and inexperienced uncomfortable doing common procedures. Have horrible reviews on here which I didn't see until after what happened to Simba, so I took my business elsewhere. Garbage, don't do it. Don't believe what they say because all they care about is your signature on that dotted line of the agreement obligating you to pay which the FANTASTIC corporate office replied with to my BBB complaint and didn't care to resolve my complaint. Look at the rest of the reviews, don't fall into it like we did. Get a real vet, not a place in a overpriced pet store.

After moving to new city with my 12 week old, 3 lb puppy who needed his puppy shots and flea/tick prevention (especially since California has terrible problem with fleas which we didn't have in my former hometown) I decided on a whim to take him to vets at local PetSmart. Worst decision I could have made. The first thing they do before even examining puppy is to sell me a monthly paid plan at almost $50 per month, totalling over $700 per year when all I wanted was 1st round of puppy shots and flea prevention med. Only after my firm insistence that all he needed were shots and flea meds, did they make sure his testicles had descended and did nothing more as far as "exam". No temperature, or looking in his ears or mouth. They then weighed him, gave him shots and handed me flea med to apply to his skin myself at home.
I then paid the outrageous bill of $128 & went home. Since I had a wonderful vet in my former hometown, who truly cared about animals and never overcharged or tried dispelling, I knew this wasn't the same sort of veterinary practice and was certain I wouldn't be coming back there for vet services. 30 days later though and only because they didn't give me an actual prescription for flea medication I went back to PetSmart and purchased the same puppy flea medication they'd sold me the month before.
After administering to my now almost 16 week old 4 lb puppy, he started chasing his tail for literally 2 hours which had me panicked after reading warning in docs they gave me that said if animal starts "circling" to immediately bring him back to vet as this can be serious reaction to medication. So I rushed him back to Banfield Pet Hospital, explained issue and their first words were "This visit will cost another $60 for exam". I was shocked and disgusted and then found a reputable vet in my new hometown. Don't risk your pet's health or safety by going to these used car salesman like scam artists.

I have had a horrible experience with the service of Banfield Pet Veterinary. They misdiagnosed my dog. The dog had to be put down. I was also in a wellness program which charge me each month. I paid for many of the services x-rays with my dog got sick and each time I paid a bill upfront yet they still wanted to charge me $500 for the rest of the wellness plan. Do not use this service.

Took my dog in to Banfield Apple Valley CA. He saw Doctor Tess **. After spending $600 in test she wrote me three prescriptions for my dog. I went to CVS to fill them, they only had carried two of the medications, the third medicine was an antibiotic. I went back to Banfield and told them CVS did not have it. Could they give me an alternative medication. I was told that it had to be that particular antibiotic and to try other pharmacies which I did. Went to Walgreens and CVS. No one had it. I then called the office and asked again for another antibiotic. Was told the Doctor was in surgery and they would call me back before closing. No one ever called.
The next morning I called and asked again for another antibiotic. My dog is sick. He needs an antibiotic. Was told again the Doctor was in surgery. I had to raise my voice and threaten to report them to the BBB if I did not get an antibiotic for my dog, and if I had to take him to another vet I wanted a full refund. They called back within five minutes and said they found someone with the medication and would send it to me overnight. So here it is two days with a sick dog and no antibiotic and will be at least 1 more day before my sick dog has his medication. Horrible. How can you prescribe a medication that you don't offer or no one else does? How can a ethical Veterinarian let your sick animal not have an antibiotic for three days? She could have started him on something so the infection would not get worse but choose not to. Will never ever take any of my pets back to this so-called hospital.

Today I cancelled our Wellness Plan with Banfield as we no longer needed it. I had been reading on your site about all the terrible problems people have had with the cancellation process so I was really nervous and on guard for the up-sell etc that people have talked about. I ended up speaking with a super nice young man and he took care of every thing with a cheerful and understanding attitude. By the way, we have been with Banfied for approximately 13 years in two states (Anderson SC and Mount Vernon WA). We have never had an issue with any of the vets, nor their helpers. We'll probably sign up for the Puppy Wellness Plan when we get our next dog. No complaints whatsoever!

Banfield sent my wire haired dachshund home with probiotics and No antibiotics when we took him in with a bad skin infection. He would have died if I had not taken him to our current vet, with whom my doxie had to spend 3 days in intensive care and be fed plenty of antibiotics.

Brought a rescue dog to pet hospital. Paid cash value upfront for one visit. Got talked into a membership. Was told I could cancel anytime. Pet ended up placed with adoptive family. Been bugged, harassed now six months for monthly fee. Reported to BBB. Complaint ignored. Dishonest company. Pure fraud, bank extremely sympathetic. Banfield should be banned! STAY AWAY.

I've had Banfield for my cat for more than 5 years now and I'm done with these people. Before I cancel it I need to express how they made me feel today cause this can help other pet owners not to bring their loved ones there anymore. My cat has had bad experiences with them but as he gets really stressed when he goes to the vet (almost all cats do) I usually apologize and understand they can't see him right away cause of their excuse of having surgeries, etc etc, but you know what? It's not my fault if they have more urgent patients, get more employees to help then, stop trying to make it so profitable by doing what they did to my cat today.
Now I have another cat that I adopted who is in the wellness plan too, I dropped my both cats off today at 7 am, as they asked me. They both had ear issues, fungus and bacteria, and they were supposed to be treated today. One was going to have dental cleaning too, which he did have and the other one was going to have blood work and to have his ears cleaned so he would need sedation because of his behavior. All of which was recommended by Dr. ** in Pompano Beach and I followed his instructions.
After 7 hours, a Banfield employee called me and said they needed my approval for sedation. What? I asked. "Korisko who is supposed to have his ears treated has not been seen yet cause we are very busy." Can you imagine how a cat would be in a strange place inside his carrier after 7 hours? He pooped and was stepping on it when I came at 4 o' clock to pick him up and he had not been medicated, no blood work done, no food, water, nothing at all. So please pet owners, do not do that to your pets, this place failed to give my cat treatment, attention and seemed not to really care about it.
I started crying at the reception cause I could not believe this was happening again and the receptionist, a guy (Friday 24th at 4 o'clock) really could not care less about how I was feeling as if they had no obligation to do anything. I called the corporate office and the employee Darcelle said I had to put a formal claim, bla bla bla. So they protect themselves so much that for my claim to change something in this company it will take forever or even never will other procedures be enforced and we will be treated well.
When Pompano Beach opened I thought, different from Coral Springs and Margate, I would be able to trust the people there. Well, they got busier and busier and are the same as the others. Their board is full of pets' names, it feels like a factory production line, numbers, numbers, numbers. My both pets are now under my bed and even though they are hungry they won't come out, that is how BANFIELD makes them feel, traumatized by a doctor's visit. And worse, now I will have to take them somewhere (which I should have anyways) to have their ears cleaned and medicated, which was the main reason they went there today. I'm done.

I am going through some difficult financial times due to being unemployed for eight months last year, so I needed to cancel the wellness plans for my dogs to free up some income. Was told since I had used the plans, I now owed them over $600 to cancel them. I have paid over $1200 to date for the plan for 3 dogs, and they say I owe over $600 more. This is for a puppy plan. I will never do business with them ever again.

I took my cat to Banfield with an ear infection. They checked his ear and he growled due to them pulling on his ear. They informed me that I needed to bring him back the next day because they had to put him under with anesthesia because he was a vicious cat. I took him back the next morning and they said I had to pay for another office visit. They had already taken him back and I decided I wanted my cat back. It took them about 10 minutes to find him.
After that I decided I didn't want them to have any paperwork I had filled out so I asked for it. It took another 10 minutes for them to find that also. I left there and went to a vet office near my home. I had never used them but they took him in as a walk in. They removed the wax without anesthesia and allowed me in the room, and they laughed about Banfield calling him a vicious cat. I called Banfield head office after this ordeal was over. They never apologized. To the contrary, they told me that I was just a pebble of sand in the ocean. Since that day I have warned every pet owner I know of my experience.
