I just want to comment on my visit to Banfield Pet Hospital today for my dog. I made the appt because I suspected my dog had diabetes. I dropped my dog off at 9am for them to do blood work and administer treatment. He was not due to be picked up until 6pm for my scheduled appt. I was told that he would receive treatment during the day. When I came to get him I was told that his blood sugar at 11am was 511. Normal is between 80-100. He did not receive any insulin all day!! I was told by the Dr that they were too busy. That is totally unacceptable. It takes less than a minute to administer an insulin shot. I can't imagine how bad he must have felt and for them to know how high it was and do nothing about it is neglectful. He also had a very bad ear infection and was told that they did nothing for that either.
I am so upset right now. I trusted my pet to their care and he was left all day long with a blood sugar that would have sent a person to the hospital. Being busy is no excuse for the lack of concern for my pet. I do not feel comfortable having my pet seen at this facility again or any of my other pets for that matter. I am extremely disappointed and will not recommend anyone to this facility.

I would suggest to not fall for their insurance program. If your pet dies they have a huge pay off fee to get out of the insurance program. My pet went in on a Thursday, sent home at a high cost with a bag of medicine and said to just bring back in Monday to check on him. My pet got worse, took him for second opinion and was told the dog should have been sent to ER right away. My dog, at age 6, died. I called Banfield and they are trying to now charge me to get out of my insurance policy. Not only am I dealing with my loss of my baby but now this.

I've had multiple bad experiences with Banfield. You should be able to trust your vet. I have absolutely no trust in them. My very friendly lab is terrified of them. First we went in and the assistant offered to cut his nails. She cut the quick and he cried and bled so much that she had to use a clotting agent. I refused to let her cut the other one. I doubt she was even authorized to do so. Then we take him for a dew claw removal and they tell me to leave his bandages on for 2 weeks.
Of course on day 5 I became skeptical. After some research, including the care guide that THEY PROVIDED, I learn that they should be removed every 2 - 4 days. So I go to remove the bandages and come to find that they have literally put the vet tape OVER my dog's skin and fur. We had to cut the bandages off which was painful for them and his fur is missing and skin is irritated. I will look elsewhere for a vet. AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS. They hire unqualified, inexperienced people.

I was thoroughly disappointed with our billing experience at Banfield. I expect to pay more than a normal vet, because Ollie got hurt outside of normal vet hours. Banfield thankfully took him in. He had a good experience and was taken good care of. What was disturbing, was that I was lied to twice, directly to my face. One may have been an honest mistake. The receptionist told me that my bill would by well under $500, which I was quoted over $500. She's not a vet... I get it, she might have screwed up, but very frustrating. When I got there, due to the extremely high bill, I asked for a price itemization. My friend's dog had the same procedure done for under $300. She, directly to my face, told me sedation cost $200. I trusted her and did not read the bill.
When I got home I realized that sedation cost $60 bucks. So then, of course I was baffled to why the bill was so high and I felt completely appalled and thoroughly disrespected. If you are going to overcharge, have the nerve and guts to be honest with your client. Also, provide them with a receipt, rather than me having to ask for one. To make it worse, I was charged $48 dollars to have them put on a bandage. A bandage! I could have bought one for a couple bucks and put it on myself, if I was given the choice. I would appreciate an apology, for the direct lies, and at least a partial refund on my upcharged services. It is despicable that a bandage application costs $48. Completely unhappy. I will never return, I will wait until vet hours resume and care for my pet at home over the weekend.

I took my dog into the hospital because he had a problem walking. He had a loss of balance and would not eat. The vet ran tests and said everything was normal except for an ear infection. He has had an ear infection in the past and did not act in that manner. They provided me ear drops to clear his ear infection. Three days after finishing the medicine they provided for his ear infection, my dog started having the same symptoms that I originally took him to the hospital for. I carried him back into the hospital telling them he has the same issue he had two weeks ago. They should have been able to see that because he couldn't walk. They called me back 35 mins later stating he needed to get his teeth cleaned and wanted to schedule time for dental work. I told them two weeks ago I took him to the office for his annual physical and they didn't mention that. They said everything was ok except an ear infection.
She said that it needed to be done and could not wait until I renewed my insurance in 2 months, which includes a free teeth cleaning. I told her let me schedule it in two weeks if it's that urgent. She changed up and said oh it could wait until she got back three weeks later, which I didn't understand. How can the issue go from needing to be done in 3 days to waiting for almost a month until that particular doctor got back? Needless to say, that was not what I brought the dog in for. I needed to know why he was not able to walk properly. They gave me an antibiotic for his mouth and some more ear drops saying it's just an ear infection. So I took the ear drops and tried to treat what I was told was an ear infection. Two weeks later I bring him back and they say everything is clear and to just use the ear solution provided to clean his ears once a week. That was on a Saturday afternoon.
Sunday afternoon my dog started having issues again. Monday afternoon I went to the vet and told them he has the same issue. They gave me some more ear drops to give him without even wanting to see him. They told me bring him back after completing this bottle. I gave him the medicine Mon night, Tues morning/night, and Wed morning/night. I woke up Thurs morning to go to work and found him dead on the floor beside me. I called the vet and told them he was dead. I asked if dogs could die from ear infections. They said no. I asked, "Ok then why is my dog dead when I brought him to your office 3 times in 6 weeks?" I told them, "You told me everything was fine. I was just there on Mon, he died two days later". All they said was they had no idea how he could have died and that I could get an autopsy done but it would cost up 1200 dollars because it has to be done externally.
I couldn't afford $1200 for an autopsy. I already have to pay for him to get cremated and was in total shock from his death. How can a completely healthy dog die in six weeks from an ear infection? It just didn't make sense. Needless to say, I couldn't live with the answer of "I don't know" especially after seeing him 3 times in 6 weeks. So I started doing research on my own and I discovered my dog had vestibular disease. This is something the vet is supposed to check for when dogs have the symptoms Midnight had. There are 2 types of vestibular disease, central and peripheral. Peripheral is the more common form and it's not deadly. Central is life threatening. They are supposed test to see which type he had for treatment. The type determined the treatment. They didn't test for it, as it is highly suggested, and assumed it was the peripheral type.
The vet school doc that I read said it was critical to test to determine which type the dog has before treatment. It could be the difference between life and death. They didn't perform the test needed and treated the symptoms instead of the underlying cause. I told them specifically, "Run every test you can, it didn't matter the cost. I needed to find out what was wrong with my dog".
Basically, after 6 weeks the bacteria spread to his brain and killed him. The two vet hospitals I talked to said they didn't believe they checked for the underlying condition and treated the inflammation in his ear. That's why he felt better but it would reoccur after the medicine ceased. The whole time it was spreading to his brain and finally killed him on Wed night.
The vet didn't do their job and it ended up killing my dog. There is no excuse. I was there every 2 weeks for six weeks for the same issue. You can't continue to say he is healthy with an ear infection. If he was healthy he would be able to walk and I wouldn't have to carry him into their facility. I have been taking my dog to Banfield and paying for Banfield insurance for 7 years. The one time he gets sick in 7 years they decide not to be thorough in their job. It cost my dog his life. If they followed the proper procedures it could of been treated. Make sure you find a great independent vet. It can be a life or death decision.

10/02/15 - Given the wrong size flea meds. 11/03/15 - I was given the wrong heartworm meds. It was for a 55 lb dog. My dog weighs 25 lbs. 11/04/15 @ 8:25 am - I dropped off my 6 month old German Shorthaired puppy to get his last rounds of puppy vaccinations. I informed the receptionist that I would be back at 6 pm to pick him up. I brought his puppy food, a small blanket, and a toy for him to play with while I was gone. I asked the receptionist to please feed him because I hadn't eaten that morning..... Around 3 pm or so I got a call telling me that my puppy was ready to go. I informed the lady on the phone that I would be in around 6 pm and I asked if Gunner (my puppy) had been fed... she told me that he had.
At 6:10 pm I arrived to pick up Gunner. The receptionist at the front desk greeted me. I told her I was there to get my dog and that he had a small red bag with toys and a blanket in it. She went back to get him and it took her quite a while... so long that I walked to the door to make sure she didn't get lost or something. Finally 13 minutes later (I'm the only person in the entire store) she brings Gunner out... his little bag and things are in a white paper bag at this time and I didn't think anything of it... I asked the lady if Gunner had been fed. She told me she wasn't sure... so I looked in the bag of food that I had left for him and it hadn't been touched. I'm irritated but I had to make Gunner's neutering appointment. Gunner and I leave headed home.
Once I got home I opened the paper bag to discover that his blanket is filled with urine..... not like he peed on it one time, but more like he peed on it all day long.. Gunner is potty/Kennel trained and wouldn't use the potty in the kennel unless he wasn't let out.... I called Banfield to inform them of my experience only to find out they don't answer the phone 10 minutes before close. So I called PetSmart. The manager told me it wasn't his problem and to call the corporate offices, which I did. This morning I called Banfield again, wanting to speak to a manager. I was told he wasn't there. My biggest problem with this whole experience that I had is that I know it is happening all day... they are not letting these animals out all day long.

We brought our 11 yr. old dog to the vet, they said she had 2 ear infections. She was put on remicin ear ointment and epiklean ear cleanser. We noticed that she was not hearing us, when she went for her follow up appointment we told the vet about her not hearing, and she never addressed the issue. We went home and I noticed she was not hearing us at all when we talked to her.
I went back to the vet, told her about our concerns. She said she didn't hear about any dogs going deaf using remicin. She would call the company and follow up on it. I told her if the vet would have told us it could cause deafness, we never would have put her on it. She called back saying she talked to the company - they said it would be temporary. We took her in October, it is now Nov 4th and we see no signs of her hearing. The vet has not even called to see how she is doing, or if she regained her hearing. All I know is my poor german shepherd is deaf. What can we do about this?

In July 2015 I took my kitty to Banfield with a bloody mouth and decided to join their Pet Wellness plan with monthly payments of $25.95. They told me he had FIV. Then began treatments with antibiotics. His health never got better and within 16 weeks he was so ill - finally diagnosed with asthma. That I took him to another vet and had him put to sleep. He could not breathe even with medication.
I waited a week and called to cancel my Pet Wellness Plan. I was told I had to pay the next 8 months [= 1 year] because I had made so many visits and costs. I told them that was unheard of. Never explained that if my cat would died that I would have to finish out the yearly monthly fee because I used their services too much. They finally allowed me 4 months off and so in Feb. 2016 I will be free of Banfield Pet Wellness Plan. I told them I have another cat on their plan and as soon as I can get her off of it, I shall use another vet. And I was getting another cat and thought I would sign her up but they have shown me that their business practices are not fair and are deceptive. I will warn everyone how deceptive their Wellness plans are.

There is never a Dr. available and I am advised to call the other Banfields since they share records, only to be told to go to an emergency clinic because they cannot fit my dog in. First time I called my dog was wheezing and he had been at a farm. I wasn't sure what it was so I wanted him seen. They could not accommodate us, and I was told to go elsewhere. I was seen without question at a vets office I was not a patient of. Today, I called about an ear infection and again, no Doctor. Tried to cancel contract and was advised that I owe 270 more $$. I see a lawsuit in the near future.

I took my beautiful Westie to Banfield, Austell, GA on 10/21/15. She had been experiencing itching, rubbing, and biting her paws and they had previously prescribed her Presdinone. She'd recently become very lethargic the day before and wouldn't eat. Our appt was at 11:30 and I was told they wanted to do some X-rays and I needed to leave her there for a couple hours. I left her and called the hospital back around 2:30 to check on her status and was told the vet would call me back with the results.
Finally after not hearing anything I went back to the hospital at 4 p.m., where the vet came out and told me the X-rays didn't show anything but she wanted to do a blood test and get a urine sample. After the blood test was done, about 5 p.m. they tell me my dog's liver and kidney levels were high and wanted to give her fluids to flush her kidneys out and for me to bring her back the next day for additional fluid IV.
Well my poor baby never made it back the next day. We left there and she was so sick and limp, that I immediately drove to a nearby emergency vet hospital where my fur baby went into cardiac arrest and died. They asked for a rundown of what happened that day, because she was only 7. I don't know what Banfield was doing to her. She was there ALL day yet they didn't think to do a blood test until 5 p.m. Instead they kept suggesting tests that costs money -- X-rays, etc., where the blood test is included in the plan I paid for and they could have ran that when we first got there and caught the issue earlier in the day and possibly saved my baby! Please take your beloved pets to a real private vet who cares and will give them personalized attention, not Banfield!

We took our sheltie in for her routine teeth cleaning and vaccinations. This was the second attempt to do so. The first the vet said they could not perform this because she had hook worms. Gave us medication and we waited two months and took her again. This time the vet called and told us the sheltie has a fatal uterine infection and the operation would cost $1200! I said "What are the symptoms I should have seen about this." They were lethargy, not eating, possible vomiting. She had none of those. So I asked "Would antibiotics help" and she said "No not really but you can try it."
So when I went to pick her up, the antibiotics were $200! I said no I am going to watch her and possible take her to another vet for confirmation. So instead of immediately bringing the dog up, they just kept stalling. I finally told them to get her out now. They told me they were going to call the police if I didn't sit down. I said I am coming through that dog if you don't get her out here. It took them almost 30 minutes to walk behind the dog and get her.
I have since taken her to another vet. She had no infection, she was spayed and given her vaccinations and is a happy dog! So they misdiagnosed and expect me just to fork over $1200 for an unnecessary operation. So I called and told corporate I wanted the pet insurance called since they were (1) not honoring their own contract and (2) the vet had a very bad diagnosis or made up a diagnosis. They said I had to speak with medical (the vet). I spoke with medical, they told me they could not cancel the policy; that corporate had to. Needless to said, corporate told me again I had to speak with medical and the insurance policy could not be cancelled until then!
So this is a bait and switch operation who breached their own contract and wanted $1200 for an unnecessary operation and now will not admit anything or cancel the said policy. They say "Oh yes, we will cancel as of 8/2016 but you have to pay the 11 months in between!" So I have now written to one of the officers in the company and I will probably get no answer whatsoever. Don't buy their pet insurance and don't trust their vets - boycott Banfield! They are not trustworthy or worth the supposed discount you get from their insurance plan.

Been using Banfield for a number of years. Had a great vet there but she found another job elsewhere. This new vet they got killed my dog Buddy because I agreed to have his teeth cleaned. This new vet must of use too much anesthesia because when I went to pick up Buddy, long story short, Buddy had suffered a major stroke, lost his hearing, sight & could not walk. Buddy had None of these problems before I took him in for teeth cleaning. This vet lied to me big time telling me he is old. The vet did not even take a blood test to see if the dog could handle the anesthesia which I later found out, older dogs must have this blood test before anesthesia. They did not even say they were sorry and wanted nothing to do with this. Please do not use Banfield if you care for your pet. Oh Banfield wanted me to contact them so I did. Got a recording. I left a message. Never received a reply. I have a lot more proof if needed. Hospital # 0229.

I have been a loyal customer of Banfield Pet Hospital for a year now. I have paid the monthly fee on time apart from once when I had fraud on my account and had to wait for a new card, and I called them and told them about it. Anyways, my debit card on file was compromised, so I called the hospital to ask for the wellness plan phone number to change the card on file and run the payment, because I added ANOTHER animal and ANOTHER plan. I was told by the lady on the phone that she could change the card number and run the payment because the payment had not gone through yet. I was really happy and had her change it, and she told me she ran the card for the monthly fees.
On Oct 5th, my dog was supposed to go in for her rabies shot, only to be told that my account was on hold and if I wanted my dog seen, my dog who had been going there for a year, I would have to pay the past due for both of my animal's plans AND THE COST OF THE VACCINE WITHOUT THE PLAN DISCOUNT. When I asked around about how much I would have to pay, it was around $80. I asked if my dog could just get her shot, and then when I get paid, I would catch up. Nope. Not an option. So I told the lady at the desk that I would just cancel the plan and it was insane I had to waste my gas just to be told they weren't going to do anything to help me. They could have at least called me to let me know. The wellness plan line was no help either. They were all to happy to help me not renew my plans as long as I paid the past due amount, which of course is obvious. I will NEVER use Banfield EVER again. Loyalty means nothing to them.

The need to go through Banfield to get prescription food already prescribed by our cat's vet is unnecessary, inconvenient, and completely illogical. The only thing I can come up with is some sort of partnership that makes them each money by this ridiculous arrangement. All it does is make me not want to go there, and I wouldn't if I had another alternative for the prescription food. Every time I go there it takes an extra long time to be done and frustrates me even more than the last time. No one at the store can give me any answers to the need for this, so I can only guess it is something to make more money for both companies. A lovely way to treat customers!

I've been a faithful customer of Banfield Pet Hospital since 2011. My cat has been vomiting for 3.5 weeks, and the vets seem to be clueless and do not accurately verbally communicate lab and x-ray results. I began to notice over time that they were constantly pushing for additional unneeded services, tests and other procedures. I even upgrade the Wellness Plan based on the dental care and my cat has suffered dental problems ever since the dental cleaning. After a recent $530.00 visit, I discovered that BPH pushes expensive and questionable services, and not actual pet care. For instance, during the 9/19/15 visit, one vet stated that the abdominal x-ray was negative, but on 10/4/15, another vet stated that my cat has possibly stomach cancer and she told me this information via a phone call!!!
Some cats vomit when they have a UTI, so I asked if this was possible and if my cat could have her annual UA that came with my Wellness plan. The 2nd vet refused to do just the one test that I wanted and insisted on a ultrasound, proclaiming that she felt my cat had stomach cancer. While discussing my cat's condition with the vets, I was always making suggestions as to diet, fluid intake and possible procedures - information that the vets should have provided; I had to constantly ask for and/or suggest. What am I paying for? After taking my cat to another vet and requesting Banfield's medical records, we find that there are tons of abnormal lab results that were never discussed with me and that the x-rays were documented as abnormal, but are actually inconclusive. We also found a small lump near her stomach that was NEVER found by Banfield!!! I'm beyond disgusted and will NEVER use Banfield again.
They appear to be incentivized to rake in revenues - even at the expense of the consumer's wallet and the pet's comfort. Also they seem to find problems that did not exist on their prior visits. To add salt to the wound, BPH makes it difficult to cancel the monthly Wellness plan and will not refund a dime. I will NOT recommend BPH to anyone who seeks quality pet care. I've made complaints to the BBB and to Banfield Corporate as well.

They don't explain and no information given on what's recommended and what's necessary for this particular animal. They just say he needs this and this and this and we do give him vaccine, without explanation.
They vaccinate him with Bordatella vaccine to prevent from COLD, which is not recommended by Veterinary, it's optional like Flu vaccine for humans. They work by commissions!! No empathy, no feelings involved. All BUSINESS!! Money making machine under trusted big name company. P.S. All the techs are new too! He needed a nail trim! I told them he gets scared that if someone holds him it goes well! I could see from the room into treatment in back! At first the tech who took him back, talked nice to him and then another tech who looked annoyed came and loudly called for a mussel!! I was like "I hope not for Brody!" She then wrapped a blue mussel tightly around his mouth and he had been panting and then rudely turned him on his back and took the leash and hog-tied his legs and then proceeded to lay on top of him in his back!! Doxies backs are fragile!!! He was so scared, he was yelping and the fear in his eyes I never ever want to see again!
I opened the door and yelled at them and put a stop to it, got my very scared dog who is usually full of kisses for all who care for him and left in tears!!! He shed so bad all over me when I got him and he does not shed! I will never ever take him there again!!! There was no need for that treatment because at the groomers next door, one holds him petting and talking to him and one trims his nails and he gives them kisses!! What they did at the Banfield was so uncalled for!!! Never ever again!!! I hope I can get my money back from signing up for the wellness treatments they offer as I will not go there anymore!!!

Guess I'm just really lucky with the Banfield I use. Got my kitten after it was abandoned at 4 weeks; she had a respiratory infection and was in bad shape. Within 2 months we had spent $500 on meds (respiratory, flea allergy and first shots). I decided the $25 a month wouldn't be so bad, especially with having her spayed and vaccines. They have always given her excellent care, explain everything to me, and the most I ever have to pay is for her heartworm/flea prevention or any out of the ordinary medications, which she's only needed after the flea thing and her spay. They do deep cleaning on her teeth, run bloodworm so I know she's healthy and just do an amazing job! And about the declawing - the one I go to will not do them at all. Like I said - guess I got really lucky with the one we have.

The wellness plans at Banfield are a total rip-off. They state in the brochure that anesthesia and radiographs will be covered in your plan. This is totally misleading and false advertising. Anesthesia is only covered for "preventative" surgeries which according to them ONLY includes dental cleaning. You will be responsible to cover the cost of any other anesthesia which runs around $400. You also only receive 1 radiograph test per year.
Having a senior dog I decided to go with the most expensive plan ($40 per month) they had available thinking most things would be covered. This was a bad idea. I'm now out $480 plus the cost of my dog's surgery. Also, they do not provide overnight hospitalization after surgery so you are responsible for picking your pet up and taking it to an all night ER to be taken care of which costs from $300-500 for one night. Then the next morning you have to bring your pet back to Banfield to be reexamined and possibly stay for observation for the remainder of the day. And of course this costs more money. I have canceled my plan and will not be going back to Banfield again.

I signed up for the wellness plan 3 months ago when we got our new puppy to help cover all of the necessary puppy shots and boosters. Once they get you signed up the bs started. They tried to sell me on everything that they possibly could. Totally annoying, as well as taking full advantage of my wife on the next visit that I couldn't make it to. She took our puppy for his second round of shots, that is totally included in our plan. But somehow ended up paying them $125.00 for numerous extras that were completely unnecessary. When had his stool tested every time we went in. Always came back negative. While cleaning up the poop in the back yard, I started noticing white like rice in his stool.
So I immediately bagged and took it to Banfield. Oh yes they said he has tapeworm. They suggested the shot instead of the tablets. Not a problem, just get rid of the worms. The next visit I took some more stool samples in and guess what??? Negative... OK great, two weeks later what do I find in his poop, worms... This time they are 8"-10". I called them and all they said is "Bring him back in." I forgot to mention I have a 3-year-old son that could very well get the worms. It's just becoming a continuous waste of time and money. I would never recommend Banfield hospital.

Signed up for the well care plan. Noticed over time that they were obviously overprescribing dx tests and other procedures. In June, I went in to have one specific urinalysis test done - only one - per the request of my top notch private vet in another state. The Banfield vet refused to do just the one test that I wanted, insisted on more. So I paid that. Then, with no reason to do so, she began feeling my pet all over. Missed 2 obvious lumps that have been identified before, but focused on an area of his spine - proclaiming that she felt he had spinal cancer and needed $500 in needle biopsies, X-rays, etc. EVEN THOUGH I told her that 2 other Banfield vets had said it was nothing and it hadn't changed in several years. She continued to pressure me to get the testing. When I asked to "think about it" she was testy and said "I don't mean to be rude but I have to go now." But she previously said she had the time to do the tests...
Here's the best part - since that alarming appt. I have gone to 2 different very respected vets in the area. Both of them were shocked that cancer was suggested and knew immediately that nothing was wrong. I even had an Xray done just to be sure. Nothing wrong whatsoever. What a joke. This is a pattern with Banfield. They appear to be incentivized to rake in revenues - even at the expense of the consumer's wallet and the pet's comfort. I will say in all fairness that there is one Vet in Downers Grove that was wonderful - if you can get an appointment. But the rude front desk and the Vet that I ran into this June is inexcusable. Run. Don't walk. Run. Your pet will thank you for it.

I signed up for a plan, not realizing I had an automatic contract for a full year. I bought the insurance when I had just gotten my dog and he was getting used to a new home, but after 6 months and no more health issues, I wanted to drop the $40 a month. You can't. What I am most upset about though is their poor practice. They keep a list of several procedures to do on your pet and things that are not necessary. My dog is already scared of their medical room, so that is the last thing I need; to have monthly fecal test, dirty water test, etc.
My dog also tested positive for heartworms when I got him and was advised by a local vet I have known for 30 years that it's not affecting him yet and the monthly pills can help. But it will take up to 18 months to clear. Banfield said I should do the intensive treatment that rids of them in 3 months. Guess what...it's very expensive. And I was told by my local vet it could actually put more undue stress on my dog. Banfield advised me to do something that goes against the health of my dog, b/c they would get more money. To me, that is not real medicine. That is disgraceful.

I've been with Banfield for over 6 years. Today I call first thing in the morning and explain that my dog looks like she has an eye infection and the girl tells me if it's worse when I get home to call and they'll get me in. They're open until 7pm. I call at 5:45 and the very rude guy tells me as he's breathing a sigh of disgust that they don't have any appointments available. He's got one Vet and 2 appts to still go... I tell him I wish they would have told me that earlier and start telling him how ridiculous that is. He asks me to hold and I'm assuming to ask the Vet then comes back on and says "No we don't have time tonight." Really? But then he tells me they're booked until next week... I'm pretty sure that's not going to work. Then as rude as ever he tells me "can't you take a lunch break and bring her tomorrow?" Geez, why didn't I think of that? Oh because I can't.
At this point I tell him to just cancel my pet plan because I was told at the last visits... One on 8/14 and they brought me back in on 9/4, that my plan would be renewing in Oct so I may want to up it to add dental cleanings. Well the lovely butt clown tells me my plan renewed in August and I proceed to ask what plan was chosen because they told me Oct and sent me home with a brochure of the costs to up my renewal. I wondered why they brought me in again two weeks after the 8/14 and when I asked they said "oh we decided to give her the shots early" (they weren't due until Oct). Makes me wonder if they did it to renew my plan early? Not sure but mighty fishy.
Needless to say I will have to pay to take her somewhere else to have her eye looked at since they're booked until next week. The kicker? When I just got online and you can make appts, it gave me the option of having an appt this Fri (today is Tues)... Guess the jerk at the front counter just wanted to be unhelpful. I will not be renewing another plan due to the poor service lately and I will be calling corporate to see why I was told it was renewing in Oct and if it did get renewed if I can cancel it but looking at the reviews, it doesn't look like that will happen. Find another vet for your pet.

Completely honest review. Watch out for Banfield and their incompetence. Have never experienced anything like this in my life. The customer service is "horrible". Have 5 pets that were/are on the plan ($135/month). Problem after problem and no one cares about helping you. All they care about is collecting that monthly fee. Visit the vet and if you are on the plan be forewarned they will try to up sell you on just about anything. (Techs and vets-Bonus program. I've heard thru the grapevine.)
The plan itself sounds good until they make numerous errors on withdraws and then "refuse" to correct/reimburse you. Call in and you can expect to receive a different answer by everyone and hopefully, you will not get a individual like I did who had "total attitude problem" (Colleen-collections-rude little p*g). Ask for a supervisor and they will tell you one is "not available" and they will be in touch. Never happens. Cancel a plan and you better check and double check it's done. They will tell you they never received the request and charge you full price for the month(s). Will refuse to reimburse/prorate. Good luck if you decide to go ahead with it.

They said that since she was younger she needed to have different medicine. On the phone we told them the age of our cat so that they could quote us a price to begin with.

We no longer have the dog but when I went to cancel I was told I had to pay the difference between the services I received THIS year and what I had paid so far. Never mind that in year's past I know I didn't use nearly the amount of services I paid for. Don't do this!!! Find another alternative. And by the way, when you go in the services are all up charging you and getting you to buy more - at the "discounted" rate. You can keep your dog healthy with a more affordable option.

I go in with my boyfriend about a year ago with our two new puppies to sign up for the wellness plan and we made it very clear to the lady we wanted separate accounts. Well later in the year the lady messed up and combined our accounts and made me go into debt... no biggy, people make mistakes, so I go and explain that this was set up wrong and they say okay and said they took the other dog off my account. Even talked to a manager and everything.
However months down the road I'm getting hit twice for each dog then being harassed by emails and phone calls saying I'll be garnished for something I thought was going to be fixed! I told them I don't mind paying for my dog and my dog only but then I want to cancel my account because you guys clearly can't get something so simple off my account. And after being on the phone for hours with them today they just say "oh we can't take him off..." Like wtf??? Their advice for me was to pay 93 dollars or something like for 2 months and call it good for my dog, when I'm only suppose to pay 39.95 a month... horrible service. They do not work with you. And they clearly weren't trained properly. Taking my business elsewhere for sure.

I have 5 dogs, 3 of which are on Optimum Wellness Plans. One is on the Puppy plan and the other two are on the regular plan. I use the Banfield in Saint Augustine, FL. I admit that Banfield is a cheaper option to people with multiple HEALTHY pets, but God forbid you need anything extra that is not covered on your plan! Almost every time that I drop my dog off for something simple like vaccines or just a check up, I ALWAYS end up paying for something extra. They don't even call and ask me if they can perform these extra services. They just do it on their own accord and charge me for it!!
Last time that I brought my Bulldog in and dropped off for a check up and Bordetella update, they never called me when she was done. I picked her up at their closing time and, to my surprise, they had charged me for a capstar tablet, which is a 24 hour flea treatment, and told me that she was infested and they had no choice... My dogs are all on Trifexis and get regular baths. They do not get fleas! They never called me to tell me about the fleas or offered to show me any type of proof. They also performed a skin scraping on her when I dropped her off for a DNA test. This bill, that should have been 75 bucks, came out to just over $179. I can assure you that they've NEVER tried to up sell or perform extra services on my pets when I schedule an office visit. They only do this when you drop off because you aren't there to see what they are doing or if your pet really needs the service.
Also, I've had the associates at this location call me to reschedule an appointment that I've made because they had too many WALK INS and couldn't take my dog, even though I had an APPOINTMENT. I made an appointment for my puppy 2 weeks in advance and they called me the day of to ask me to move my appointment to another day because they had a lot of walk-ins. This is not the first time that they asked me to move my appointment. Long story short: They do not call you when your pet is due for a service. They do not call you when your pet is ready to be picked up after receiving a service. They will charge you extra for services that your pet may or may not have needed in the first place. They will make you reschedule/cancel your appointment because of their own poor planning.

Call the PetSmart in Winder, Ga to ask how much for my dog to come in and get checked for stomach swelling and loss of appetite. Hospital said it would cost 39.95 for the examination. The only thing the vet did was check the dog temperature (which was normal) and then said they wanted to do x-rays for $300, blood work for $130 and something else for $60. No exam or pre-diagnosis, but I had to pay almost $40 for them to reiterate to me what I had already told them. The only concern this Vet had was selling the X-ray and blood work up!!! I am upset because they didn't even attempt to check a stool sample, like most Vets do or even look in her month to check her teeth, after I told them she had a loose tooth. We told them her bowels weren't functional as usual. None of that mattered, they just wanted us to pay the $500 for X-rays and blood work!!!

I'll keep it short. The deeply discounted wellness plan does not provide any discount whatsoever. When they try to show you the full price against the "discount" price, please be warned. The full price is what you are signing up to pay for!!!!! Once you sign the dotted line, you are paying for (through the monthly payments) the full price of the services/products. If you are a member and try to cancel, you have to pay the balance of what the full price would have been minus whatever payments you have made.
If you want to non-renew, you can't until your monthly payments amount to the full cost of the plan. THERE IS NO DISCOUNT WHATSOEVER, IT IS A PAYMENT PLAN. You can go to any other vet and get the same services for literally a quarter of the price. Please Please Please listen to me. I am literally going on every review site I can because dealing with this company has caused me so much anger. I believe that nobody should have to go through this and I wish I had somebody explain this to me beforehand.

I received a letter in the mail stating that the Banfield that I had signed my pet up at has closed, no reasoning. My pet is on a wellness plan. We still have 5 months left in the contract. The paper that was send to me states that they will send all of my pet's information to another hospital that is closest to me, and if I wish to not continue my plan at another hospital, to call customer service. I contacted customer service, and they informed me that I will need to pay for all the services used, since I was doing an early cancellation of the agreement.
Here is the problem, the hospital in which I signed my contract, and has the address of that hospital, is now closed. I do not have transportation to travel to a hospital out of my way, and of course, my pet is not allowed on public transportation. This is insane that this company is trying to hold me to contract, but the location that I signed with is no longer in service. I hope they resolve the issue before this gets taken to court, because I am not legally obligated to continue paying for service that I am not able to receive, due to the company closing the doors.

We had to have our beloved companion euthanized. He WAS NOT sedated first and the vet just gave him the medicine. He was yelping and tried to bite me. It was a horrible experience that will be forever burned into my mind. PLEASE make sure your vet sedates your pet first so you don't have to go through what we went through.
At first Banfield wanted us to pay for the rest of our contract even though he had only been on it for 2 weeks. The vet was very sympathetic and agreed to a much smaller amount owed since the services on the plan wouldn't be used. I am very thankful for that. ALSO everything you sign is signed electronically so you don't what you are signing other than what they tell you. NO ONE ever explained to me about having to pay for the whole Wellness Plan no matter what. PLEASE ask exactly what you are signing and what you are responsible for.
The Banfield we went to was fair and nice to us and just charged us a small part of what we would really owed, mainly due to the fact of our beloved fur baby NOT being sedated before he was euthanized. I am sorry for all the horrible experiences others have had concerning their beloved fur babies and having to pay for services not received. I know they average the plan payments by 12 months but I think it is wrong to have to pay for services your pet won't receive. Also, if no one explains the plan rules to you, you don't know what you are getting into. Afterwards I was told it is in fine print on one of the papers they print out for you. I still couldn't find it! ALL the vets and staff I have used have been very nice and caring.

I've had Banfield for over 9 years now with my dog. Started it in Southern California, and the service was great. However, 2 years ago I moved to Brooklyn, NY. The problem is that there is exactly 1 Banfield within a 40 minute drive of me. The doctors and staff at that location are not the problem. The problem is the lack of Banfields in the area, so they are always booked. I had to book weeks in advance for my dog’s comprehensive appointments, but that was tolerable. Where it all fell apart was when I realized I could never bring my dog in for semi-emergency checkups (diarrhea, hurt herself, etc.).
The tipping point was when they told me they couldn't see my dog for the next 3 days, but urged me to take the dog somewhere to see my dog. Um, what? That's exactly why I went to them. They know my dog. Have her medical records. So I decided to cancel my dog's Optimum Wellness Plan. However, they required that I finished paying out the year since they had provided services and I was contractually obligated. What bothers me is that they advertise on their website "Unlimited office visits" and "Convenient drop-offs, weekend and evening hours." However, seeing as how I couldn't take my dog for 3 days straight, I don't find that within the realm of "unlimited" nor "convenient".
In the end, my problem is not with the Brooklyn branch. They are servicing a highly populated area. What I have a problem with is their corporate policy to not let me out of plan even though they are failing to provide the services as advertised on their website. They are holding me accountable, but do not do so for themselves. That's terrible policy. I sincerely hope that I can get at least one person not to sign-up for Banfield's Optimum Wellness Plan as the money they are continuing to collect from me would be less than they would make from a new sign-up.

Two days later the dog became very ill and my daughter took her back to the vet. She was told the doctor was gone for the day and offered blood work. She declined and brought her back the next day, by which time the dog had been vomiting and foaming at the mouth. The mange medicine poisoned her. Let me share my story. I found a small lump on my dog Hera's hip/thigh area. It was smaller than a marble and we decided to take her in and have it checked out just to be safe. They did a biopsy and sent it to a lab, and it came back as spindle cell sarcoma, which is a type of cancer that rarely spreads in dogs, but IS locally invasive. We scheduled a surgery where they removed the tumor - just the tumor (The specialist I took her to after said "They just did a scoop job").
Well, this type of tumor has roots, so they wanted to do a SECOND surgery. I believe they knowingly did this just to get paid twice, as the first surgery margins were so narrow, they could be quite confident the problem was still there. After a second surgery with a specialist elsewhere, Hera is now cancer free. I would never bring another pet there - they are clearly only after your money. None of the vets had ever displayed any type of warmth towards my pet at all like at other vets. It's all business, and then "NEXT"!

I signed on for two separate Banfield premium wellness plans, one for a puppy and one for a kitten. These plans were done almost a year apart. One thing they won't tell you is that the plans renew. Unless you want it to renew for another year, cancel before the expiry date! My puppy was due to one comprehensive exam shortly before her plan expired. I had her in for that exam a day after the plan expired. I contested this, but they added that visit to the next year's plan. When I tried to cancel they notified me I would owe the year and add an extra $80 on top of that. FOR A VISIT THEY OWED ME FROM THE FIRST YEAR. I later called multiple times to get a correct answer, and was told that final puppy exam was missed by 3 months, which they never scheduled or called regarding, unlike every single other visit. This was the only fault my local hospital caused.
Any company that has a "retentions" department to keep you from canceling your plan has management too concerned about money. I absolutely disgust companies that force employees to bargain with customers to keep churn down. Get real. Corporate refused to help my situation, simply pawning me off towards settling the issue with the hospital -- customer service rep actually told me the store would have to pay off my bill for this year's renewed plan. Own up to your problems. My local hospital was great but the prices are vastly inflated to make their plans seem worth it. If you remove the subsidized cost of spay/neutering and all the treatments when animals are young, it's an incredibly expensive vet, and they get you with that in case you try to cancel the subscription. Never again Banfield! I was happy, but now you've pissed me off and I will be sure as hell to let everyone know.

I got home one afternoon and my kitten Kam was acting odd (drooly and lethargic). I took him to Banfield of Everett, which is close to my house and has been giving Kam his vaccines. After waiting nearly two hours, a technician came out to tell me Kam had a broken jaw. I never once spoke to a doctor during my visit. I was told by this technician to go immediately to an emergency veterinary clinic and look into surgery, as he was in a lot of pain and no pain medication had been given yet. I was very shocked and hysterical; this is not what I was expecting at all. I was too upset to realize that I never got to speak with a doctor, a broken jaw wouldn't have made sense. He had been eating only a few hours prior and there was no blood, and why had there been no pain medicine if he was in the excruciating pain I was told he was in?
I followed their recommendation and took him to an ER vet, paying ANOTHER few hundred dollars (on top of what I had paid Banfield). He was absolutely fine. They found nothing wrong with him at all except his teeth are coming in. They gave him a pain injection and he was completely fine - back to his old self. When I called Banfield after the incident to discuss how horribly traumatizing this experience was (I was considering euthanizing him or giving him away if I couldn't afford surgery), the Dr. I spoke with was not understanding, kept cutting me off, and was condescending. Apparently, I can't even cancel my wellness plan with them without paying a large fee. I am beyond frustrated, and have tried several avenues to reconcile with them, to no avail. My only option at this point is to make others aware of my experience and hope to steer people away from this company so they don't experience what I had to experience.

We joined Banfield because we thought it would be cheaper because we have a Tea cup Chihuahua that has a heart problem and needs to have Compound medicines. We had all her medical records faxed to Banfield from our original Vet. clinic. So we took her in to get her teeth cleaned and the Vet said she needed to have her teeth cleaned and wanted us to make an appointment for that. And I do not think her medical records were even looked at because he told us to take her off of her heart medicine and within two days she was having a hard time breathing. So we took her back to our original veterinarian and they put her in oxygen for the day and put her back on the medication increased the dosage.
We took our other dog in to get her teeth cleaned and they pulled all of her teeth out that she had left. And after we took her home she kept digging at her mouth so we kept taking her back in and ask if maybe she had some stitches left in her mouth and they didn't really open her mouth to look in it but they said no and her mouth was healing just fine. But she still kept digging at her mouth and they saw her doing it in the office but the vet said he had never seen a dog do that before and he didn't know why she was doing that but maybe they would need to do surgery to close the holes that the roots were in and that the next time we took her in we had a different vet. She took her to the back room and removed 3 stitches. They charged us $ 1095.00 to pull the teeth and that was not including the medications. We still have to pay until our year is up but we will not take our dogs back.

I had rescued a shih tzu puppy took her to a regular vet in the beginning when I first got her. She had fleas, worms and had never been to the vet so I wanted to get her checked out. Paid a lot of money for two visits at the first vet. So was told about Banfield. The first one I took Lucy to was in Central Park in Fredericksburg, Virginia. I signed her up. Now she had had shots from previous vet but they insisted on giving her more shots which at one time they give around 6 shots and they push Benadryl which is an extra cost. The regular vet told me if there were any reaction then I could give her Benadryl which she had no reaction the first time to shots. So I told the vet no. She still try selling me on Benadryl. I told her no she did not have reactions the first time which the first shots were only the normal 2 or three shots.
Banfield gave around 6 shots that day and did a deworming which she had already had done. The next visit was for a teeth cleaning. Now she was just a puppy. Had puppy teeth. The first visit she told me she would have to pull puppy teeth. I had told her, “No they will fall out on their own just clean her teeth”. So took her for the teeth cleaning. My dog sat at Banfield all day long. They call around 3 in the afternoon telling me they could not get to her now. I had an appointment. I could leave her overnight and be charged or come get her. I went and got her and called to cancel and complain: 1) the pushing of Benadryl; 2) had an appointment and my dog sat there all day long before they had called; and 3) wanting to pull puppy teeth and charge me around $600.00 to do so. So of course they had said I could not cancel but I could take her to another Banfield hospital.
So I started to take her to the one in Massaponax, Virginia. They were real nice when I got there the first time that was for the teeth cleaning. Which they did pull Lucy's teeth for free but not really because you are paying for a plan all year long. At the end of the year I wanted to cancel due to financial reasons. Of course I thought taking her in November was still from the first contract I signed but they said no and for that reason they would deducted the amount again out of my bank account for a whole year for the services just for that one visit. So in March of 2015 my dog awoke us and was having seizures. Something new and different for us from a playful 2 year old puppy. My husband took her to an animal hospital and they controlled her seizures and put her on phenobarbital. Called Banfield since they were her primary vet and said, “Bring her in. We will monitor her and run some test”.
Lucy was out of it. Her left side was not probably working right at all. They did the test I guess and come to find out they dewormed my sick dog. I had no idea until I picked her up and she had pooped all over herself. The so called vet came out and explained to me about seizures and that she would have to be on the phenobarbital for the rest of her life. That I should have another test done on her brain which was around $450.00. I said no at the time let see what happens being on the medicine. Well it took over 2 weeks. I lowered the dose myself because it was way too much for her size and weight. I started feeding her grain-free food and she got back to almost normal.
Then in April she had another seizure. Took her to Banfield. We will monitor her this time. She was not eating or drinking at all and I had told them that in my report it says something about her not eating dry dog food. My dog only ate wet food. So I left her there. Called around 3. They said I could pick her up, she was doing fine. Picked her up she was not fine. She was still having seizures and she was all over the place. Don't know what they did or what they gave her but got her home. Her head was jerking. She would not sit still and she was still not eating or drinking. I was using a syringe to give her water which I found out that they did not even give her any type of fluids while she was there all day. Ended up taking her to the animal hospital. Her temperature was elevated and she would not respond to anything the hospital was giving her. They kept her overnight. The next day I had to put down my 2 year old puppy. Worst thing ever.
Now Banfield is calling trying to collect. They never called to say. “Sorry for your loss”. The animal hospital which was the first time we ever took her there sent a condolence card, Banfield nothing. When I changed bank cards the amount stopped being taken out of my account. I called to cancel. Cannot cancel till the plan is paid for a year. Told them they did things I did not authorize them to do like deworm my dog when she was sick. How my dog had poop all over herself they did not bother cleaning her off at all. Brought her home and had to give her a bath. Had Banfield call me after 3 months after Lucy passed away apologizing and telling me, “I am so sorry for your loss. But here are the things we did and you need to pay for the services”. I will not pay. My dog was a healthy playful little ball of fur we loved dearly and got so attached to in 2 years time.
I don't think they did their job especially the last time I took her in I picked her up and she was not fine at all. What needs to be done to make Banfield pay for all these complaints and I believe are doing the wrong things. #1 giving out 6 to 8 shots a visit on top of deworming and blood work that is the #1 concern here. Not doing anything much when you take a sick dog. They seem not to be able to treat them as being a pet HOSPITAL.

I've been going to Banfield since I got my first car 7 years ago and have loved them. The staff was always topnotch and the doctors were knowledgeable and caring. I just moved and now have to go to the Banfield in South Tampa on Dale Mabry Hwy. I called them 6 times before someone finally answered and made an appointment for my cat because I noticed a worm hanging out his butt. First of all, the guy who answered, James, was very annoyed sounding and short. He didn't ask me any questions such as what my phone number was or which pet I was even bringing in. He didn't tell me an exact time as to when I could bring my cat in either. He just said "ok" after I told him I'm bringing my cat in immediately for treatment.
It also turned out he put down the wrong cat for the appointment too. When I got to the Banfield to drop my cat off at 7 am the next day there was no one out front to greet customers so I had to stand there and wait for 10 minutes for someone to come out. Then the woman was very rude and just angry, as if me coming in ruined her day. I've never had such a terrible experience at Banfield in my life and I've been using them for 7 years. Their staff is very unorganized, rude, sloppy and trashy. I live a mile from this Banfield in south Tampa but I'm going to use the one on Hillsborough Ave in Tampa instead. Hopefully they're better. I can't imagine them being any worse!

Some of the stitches are still protruding like thorns on my dog's belly while the doctor insisted that they will go away in time. It's been almost 5 months. I also ask the doctor if flea medication in the form of liquid tube needs any prescription and he said, "No if you get it from us". The flea medication Banfield provided has no effect and I found out that the Advantage II flea medication is far more effective and can be easy purchased over the counter. I wish I had looked at the reviews before signing up with Banfield and now I understand why everybody is upset with Banfield services. This will be the last year I sign up with their insurance plan.

I purchased a wellness plan during a visit to Banfield Pet Hospital in June 2014. Other than billing my AMEX every month, I received no correspondence from the company. Not one email or notification that my plan was being renewed. On 8/8/2015 my cat was ill and I took him in for an evaluation. First, they can only do the very basic things at their clinic, I had to pay over $300 for an evaluation from an expert. What was included in the "plan" was only a blood and urine test. Long story short, my cat had heart disease (this was diagnosed by a third vet) and passed away. Now I'm left paying on a dead cat.

out and had a rash. The girl explained that some doctors had recently left and the scheduled doctor for that day was not in (perhaps emergency? I don't recall) but I asked for a call back to reschedule. Nothing.. my dog's rash got worse and I had saved her from a local rescue so I called them and my girl there wanted me to track down my dog's doctor whom the rescue had been involved with when I first adopted her and took her to Banfield. So I tracked the doctor down via the State website and left a message with them, she called me back (awesome Vet btw) and while her clinic was not open yet, she helped me as much as she could over the phone with my dog. She also gave me a referral vet clinic with whom she would have affiliation and could speak to them about my pit.
Well finally after a great deal of money and time, we found out Hope has an auto-immune disease and she only had a bacterial infection along with tearing at the incision. Which had Banfield kept the appointment, called me back or even acted like an ethical animal treatment facility, my pet would not have suffered like she did. I will never pay them a penny. I would love to meet them in a court of law over their breach of contract. They failed to provide my dog/myself with contracted services so they can forget ever seeing any money from me or anyone I know, which also includes Petsmart. I had no idea there were so many better alternatives. There is one other thing, I disputed this on CFPB and with the State I live in. If you have concerns about the ethical treatment of your pet or operations of a clinic look up the state codes/regulations for that. The stuff for pets is simple to read and you should be aware of your rights.

My dog had a cough, brought him in to be treated. The vet decided it would be a good idea to give the dog a rabies shot and a distemper shot at that time. As well as put him in an antibiotic. I trusted the vet. 3 days later my dog died! According to reputable veterinarians under no circumstances should a sick dog be give a rabies and distemper shot when they are already sick. My dog left the vet worse than when we came in. I called and asked for a liquid form antibiotic bec he wasn't taking the pill, she said I could pick it up in the morning. I explained to her that he is not doing good at all and wanted to bring him back in. That night my dog died!
I'm stuck with the bill and I shouldn't have to pay for the wrongdoings of a vet who all she wanted to do was sell, sell, sell and not treat my sick dog. I called the 24hr Emergency Vet clinic for advice and they stated it was unethical for that Vet to administer those shots when the dog was already sick and with all of that, she killed my dog! Do not ever use Banfield Animal Hospital in Woodbury, MN. They did nothing to help me. No apologies, the vet didn't even return my call. They should be sued! And I should be refunded for the cost that I incurred!

My wife and I purchased individual health plans for our 2 dogs. We were auto-debited $54.00 a month for the plans and the plans were suppose to run for 1 year each. Once the plans had expired Banfield continued to auto-debit our account for an extra 9 months even though we had not used any Banfield services for 12+ months. When I called to cancel the plans I was literally placed on hold FOR 1 HOUR!!! When I finally spoke with someone at Banfield I was told that I was placed on hold for one hour because it was the "first banking day of the month" and they were "very busy". Mind you I was calling on a Wednesday and it was the 5th day of the month. The rep then tried to cajole me to keep the plans that we had not used for 12+ months and said that if I did Banfield would send me a "four month supply of a very expensive medication" for the dogs at no cost. Mind you by the time I was making this call Banfield had already been billing me $54/month for 9 months beyond the agreed upon expiration of the plans. If you sign up for one of these plans keep a CLOSE eye on your bank account.

Although my dog seems to be doing well after surgery and I feel she was given good care, I think the cost whether or not you buy one of their plans is outrageous. Initially, I thought I'd be saving money by getting my dog's teeth cleaned at Banfield. It was estimated, both online and in-person, to be no more than $300.00. Imagine my surprise when they called and told me that they had to extract a small tooth and a larger one and that the cost would be $700.00!!! That's more than double the original estimate.
Apparently, the big tooth in the back of her mouth was more difficult to get out, so they charged me $250.00 alone for that tooth. Of course, I also had to take her for a pre-cleaning exam and will have to take her for a post-cleaning exam, so the total bill for the removal of 2 teeth will be over $700.00. I am going to check with my regular vet to see if they charge this much extra for a large tooth. She's only 5 years old but was a rescue so I have no idea how her teeth got so bad in such a short period of time.
Needless to say, I will never, ever go to an in-store veterinarian when I can easily go to my own vet and pay at least the same or less. Of course, they constantly try to get you to sign up for The Plan. Even after I shelled out $700.00, I was informed that I had 72 hours after surgery to sign up so I'd save money in the future. So, even after shelling out $700 big ones, they thought I'd "see the error of my ways" and write another check for $450 to be part of The Plan. I actually tried to talk a young Asian woman and her boyfriend out of buying one when she asked me if I had a plan. Thanks to this site, I saw that this plan does not seem worth it any more than just getting your pet care without it.

My 11 year old Bichon Frise was given First Shield Trio as a flea preventative. I applied only 1/2 the vial and within hours my dog went insane! Scratching, whining, restless, excessive panting. She would bolt off of the couch like she was on fire, just to run around and whine. I bathed her with Dawn as her skin was red and the next day when I came home from work at lunch to let her out I noticed she walking "sideways" almost lethargic and she felt so hot! I drove her to Banfield where I explained to them what she had gone though. The front desk attendant spoke to the vet and came back to tell me, "You do not have an appointment today and we can't see her. We are booked." I stood there shocked with my dog in my arms shaking. I told her, "This is an emergency. You are a hospital correct?" She told me that I needed to go to a 24 hour vet. Mind you this was in the middle of the day on a Monday.
I stormed out of there and took her to a "real" vet, in a pet hospital that I had taken her before many years ago and they saw her immediately. She was put on steroids for 2 weeks and is now back to normal. I had joined Banfield for the pet insurance. I thought it was a good deal at the time, as I was going through economic hardships and financially it made sense to me. I can say right off the bat that in the beginning I was not happy with them as they required a leave her there for 6 hours while she had yearly blood work up and vaccinations. I had never had to do that with our previous vet. My dog would always shake when we would go there and I would never get the same vet. After this episode and having her treated by a caring vet, I had all of her records transferred. They were caring, compassionate and responsive. Most of all they communicated and educated me on the dangers of this flea preventive that ONLY Banfield offers.
Years ago she was on Frontline and I should have never switched however Banfield pushes you to use their brands. I will never recommend this hospital, nor this flea preventative. I paid $130 for my emergency visit to our new vet. Honestly I thought it was going to be much more. I was paying $34 a month for Banfield's insurance. I'm sure I would have had to pay more with the emergency visit. Financially this does not make sense to me and even if it did my dog is worth more to me than the convenience that Banfield "presumes" to offer.

Contract is for a year, and you can cancel but have to pay for rest of year. We could even tolerate that for 5 more months until it is eligible to end, but they started a new policy that only have drop off service to give dog shots, etc. Our girls are upset when we are not around and I've not been too impressed at the view of kennel area that I can see as the door opens. They only provide vaccinations, crap scoops, and draw blood, which causes my pets to squeal each time. Have decided that the guys there are just out of vet school and as soon as we get a good one, the next time, they are gone. As I am now... Will be at Pet Supermarket tomorrow for Rabies shots. I went to another reputable vet and paid less than $100 total. The tech and the vet spent 30 minutes trying to sell us on expensive vaccines we could get for much less elsewhere. Their "Pet Plan" is a great way for pet owners to get socked out of $30 a month for essentially little to no coverage for their dogs. Canine health insurance costs the same and covers everything this plan doesn't. We were so offended by Banfield that we just walked out.

I came to the Banfield pet Hospital inside the Petsmart at the arrowhead location and was told multiple times by the lady who signed us up for the puppy plan. For three of my puppies they said it would expire in a year and it cover the spray and the vaccines is about 400 and some odd dollars and lasted a year they said it was a puppy plan and will expire in a year and that apparently was a lie so for the last six months I have been charged $77 a month thinking I still owe them money but in reality six months have gone by without ever hearing from them.
If I was still on the plan you would think they would tell me that I have a vaccines due or make any sort of contact? I did sign something that came up on a little ATM machine which apparently was a contract that said the opposite of what the lady selling the plan had told me I was just starting a business back then did not have the time to read all their legalese. He is in their contract and just took the ladies' word at the counter. But even then I told them to cancel them for each dog long before the year was up because before the year is out they call you for some extensive exam where they try to get you to sign up for more stuff I think but we never went to those. We canceled them and told them to cancel everything because we didn't even have two of the dogs any longer.
We had adopted them out. I checked the Better Business Bureau for Banfield pet hospital and they had something like 300 complaints just about billing issues alone and hundreds of other complaints about other things. I have been out here with my signs and bullhorn for a couple hours in the afternoon for a few days now in front of the Petsmart letting people know not to get under contract with Banfield or at least to be very very cautious! I will be here protesting as much as possible with my bullhorn and my signs at the arrowhead Petsmart because I think Petsmart having a shady vet like that in their stores is liable as well and should lose some business. I was not aware that you could not just stop paying that you are responsible for all payments, which I was not advised of initially. Although I've had dogs all my life, this is my first time on my own raising a puppy and my local Banfield has been great. I got the puppy wellness plan for about $450 and so far it has covered not only the standard puppy care without a hitch but it also affords free office visits. The free visits mean when I freaked out because my pup was sick, I was able to bring her in the next morning, they booked a day of appointment for me and we were seen less than half an hour after the doctors arrived for the day. I wasn't charged a cent more for any of it and we were given some medicine (also covered under the plan) and helpful advice. Considering other places wanted $200-300 for spaying alone - not counting the anesthesia and other meds accompanying it, the wellness plan's inclusion of all that made it well worth it.
The vets and technicians are also great people. All the vets have been very caring and gentle with my very timid, shy puppy. One vet even sat down on the floor with her and coaxed her into his lap with treats before trying to do any of the exam. He could have just stuck her on the table and gone ahead, but he took the time to really care for the dog and it meant the world both to me and to her. The hours are convenient even though I work full time in the summer and attend law school during the year. For major procedures, they have drop off and pick up services with no extra charge so that I won't have to take time off from classes when the time comes to spay my puppy and get her microchipped. All in all I am shocked at the poor reviews here because I have had nothing but great interactions with Banfield. Maybe it's all about location and people, but I am so glad I chose them for my vet care.

We moved her back and forth to Banfield and the ER for three days while Banfield sat there telling us that they had to order an x-ray or some scan. They scanned her and nothing. Then we had to wait another two days to get a different test done on her.
Finally five excruciating days later they tell us that her immune system had shut down. They tell us that it was because she stepped in rabbit or coyote droppings and licked her paws and that's what caused it. Later on that same day my dad went back because that explanation was fishy and the vet had told him that her own dog and multiple other dogs had died from the EXACT SAME THING. So basically my dog died because Banfield doesn't take the time to clean their cages or separate animals with contagious killer disease when they have animals going into or next to them. I have called 3 or 4 times this past year to set up an appointment to get her fixed and every time I have called they are booked up. I work 70 hours a week and have no help so I have to be able to take a few days off to take care of her. They have called me as well but I am always working when "they" have time. I took my dog to the grooming salon. The groomer injured the dog and tore her cranial cruciate ligament. The vet in the store would not see my dog even though I have a wellness plan with them because they were too busy. I took my dog to the Emergency vet who stated that the groomer injured the dog by how she pulled on the leg during grooming. I had to spend 125 dollars and over 4 hours of my time. The next day, my dog had not gone to the bathroom in over 12 hours. I called the vet and again, they refused to see her. I pitched a fit on the phone and they agreed to take her if I dropped her off. I explained to the staff exactly why I was bringing in my dog. I had to wait over 30 minutes just to check her in.
Four hours later, I get a call from the vet explaining that the problem with the dog was a tear, which I already knew. She proceeded to prescribe the same medications that the ER vet had already prescribed. I again had a fit on the phone because I told the vet that I already knew that as the ER vet that I was forced to take my dog to had already told me that. The vet asked if she could do an xray of the leg to make sure there wasn't a fracture. When I asked how much it would cost, she quoted about 240 dollars. Once I told her what was covered under my plan, she told me that it would cost 80 dollars to read the xray and that wasn't included on my plan. Then, she tried to charge me for the medications that I already had. I asked the vet if the dog had gone to the bathroom yet as this was the reason that I brought her in. The vet didn't know and she stated that no one told her that was why I brought her there.
So now 16 hours later, my dog still had not gone to the bathroom. The vet said that she would have someone walk my dog. The vet called me again later to tell me the results of the xray. She still didn't know if my dog had voided yet. Frustrated, I went to pick up my dog and was told that the vet wanted to speak to me. I asked the staff if the dog had voided, and no one knew. I waited 15 minutes for the vet to come out and talk with me. She gave me a referral to an orthopedic doctor and recommended arthroscopic surgery to clean out the debris from the joint saying that if it wasn't done, it could cause long term damage to the dog. Also, the vet stated that this injury could not have been caused by the groomer even though I never told her about it. I asked the vet if the dog had voided and she still didn't know. I just wanted to get out of there so I didn't say anything. The vet told me she would get someone to bring out my dog.
After 45 minutes of waiting and constantly being reassured that it would be just another couple of minutes, I received the dog. Just before they brought me the dog, they brought me her blanket that was saturated with urine. I took the dog home and had to bathe her as she was soaked with urine as well. I called corporate Banfield to complain. I left a message for a return call thinking that I would have some recourse regarding the way my dog and I were treated. I only received a call from the vet who had given the dog care the day before stating that she understood that I had called corporate and that she wanted to talk with me about the situation. That is like a customer having a complaint about me and then asking me to resolve the problem with the customer myself.
If I didn't have the wellness plan, I wouldn't take the dog back there. The problem is that even if I don't go back, I am responsible for payment of the plan until the year is up which is another 8 months. I doubt that I will every go back there. I have been looking for another Banfield hospital to take her to and they all have the same complaints. All of the stores around me, and I live in West Palm Beach, Florida, have less than 3 stars in their reviews and multiple complaints of the same nature. Terrible, terrible service!!

Brought our dog in for an ear infection, the vet prescribed an over-the-counter ear wash. After two weeks the problem persisted, brought him back, and a different vet prescribed an antibiotic and steroid, then showed us how to administer it in the ear. Our dog suffered for two extra weeks as a result, then I find out the first vet was an associate vet. We got charged for two office visits when the problem should have been handled on the first visit. This occurred at the Coconut Point Petsmart, Estero, FL. The office manager Kevin ** refused to talk and assist us.

After 45 mins later we were talking to another patient who loved my bird and was in spanish when the front desk came up to me and said I was being disruptive and had to leave. I was NOT at all and was just conversing with someone in another language and it was a normal conversation. So after not being on the schedule, driving 30 minutes away, and waiting 45 minutes to be told to leave, This is NOT a proper way to treat people!!! Therefore I will seek further action so this does not happen again to myself or others.

My pet had to have her nail removed due to injury on 6/6/2015. Went back for two bouts of medicine. And they never wrap her foot after surgery. They left it opened. The doctor said "you put a sock on it." We were unable to do that because her leg hurt too much and she would scream. On the 15 of July we brought her back in. Her foot had been bleeding for weeks. They knew about our problem. Husband brought dog back in and for 5 hours they had her in a cage and did nothing. She is still bleeding all over the house. When we went to pick her up they said she did not have an appointment. But right at the front desk it says "Injured dogs and ill dogs take precedence over everything." It is still bleeding today.

My healthy 1 year old Bengal had escaped outdoors, and had twelve hours of diarrhea. I wasn't concerned, but my aunt called to see when we should be, if it continued. I thought I'd just bring him in for a glance, to make sure he wasn't showing some awful symptom I missed - but by the time we got there, his diarrhea was resolving. His vitals were completely perfect. He had a perfect temperature, was at a healthy weight, his skin was elastic and he was hydrated. His only problem, diarrhea, was for a short period of time (12 hours) and resolving.
ANY OTHER vet operating under the proper level of care would have actually sent a real vet to examine Lynx. EVERY OTHER vet would then have told me, his vitals are all good (they were exactly healthy, see attachment), and he's had an extreme stress, and his diarrhea is resolving (as meticulously documented and shown to the vet tech with descriptions of the diarrhea showing it was resolving) and so let's watch him, and come back Monday if he's not better. By then, I should have been told, if the diarrhea was still present, further blood work and fecal work would be in due course. That’s absolutely what should have happened. Instead, the vet tech made me hold Lynx down, while the temperature was taken, and she messed it up - he was in extreme pain, and the therm came out bloody, and he didn't forgive me for holding him down with all my force while it happened and he screamed. I'm still scarred from where he clawed me.
The VET NEVER CAME TO SEE LYNX. Instead of the vet, the vet tech just came back and said he needed over $450 in tests - I was in shock, and repeated, that he was healthy, his vitals were perfect, why so many tests - I had complete records of his full vaccinations and the tests that were ordered were being taken already, when the tests came back COMPLETELY NORMAL other than a slight white blood cell count increase, which I now know is symptom of the diarrhea. Still, vet assigned $150 in medications although we didn't know what or if something was wrong I refused them, and only bought two to help the diarrhea but I never used them because Banfield forgot to include a syringe for me to give him the meds.
ALSO, the diarrhea was GONE by the end of the day. But more important, the tech, and vicariously the vet, and vicariously Banfield, directly deceived me with regard to several tests administered, as to what they would show - I'd been explicit, the only problem we're looking for is the past 48 hours during which he’d been exposed to the outside. The problem was limited to under 12 hours. I was told he had colitis as if it was a real problem that needed to be found out.
I later researched and realize, colitis is almost certainly a result of having diarrhea in the first place, not a sign of a deeper problem unless for a longer period of time and a sicker cat. I was lied to. Told he needed over $400 in tests without the vet even taking a glance at Lynx and despite the above information. When the cause of events was so short that the tests would not be necessary in light of the fact that if he did even have something wrong like his organs malfunctioning, the tests were administered too soon after the event to be of any use to me.

I took my two healthy dogs for a general check up at Banfield Pet Hospital in Wilmington NC. The vet talked me in signing for their Wellness Plan ($24.99 per month) and because all the flea meds I've tried don't seem to be working I was given a 12 month supply of Trifexis ($18 per month). The vet was chatty but nice. She did a brief physical for the dogs, a fecal sample, and took their rectal temperature. Also, a blood test. At the time of checking out I was charged $158.80. So today, looking at the invoice I'm being charge $544.14 for one and $534.26 for the other. I can't afford this charges, so I called to cancel it. They told me I have to pay for the services provided. So for one visit I will have to pay almost $900 in order to cancel this scam! This truly is a scam!

The puppy wellness plan has been one of the most wasteful services I've paid for all year. Even though the neutering was covered by Banfield, you still have to pay excessive amounts of money for the medication they use during the operation. Also, their "skin scrapes" should be included in their plan. Coming from a microbiology graduate, you shouldn't have to pay $30 for somebody to look at a sample of skin under a microscope.

I took my dog to Banfield Hosp after my dog started to throw up blood... I was told I had to wait at least 30 mins while they were taking perfectly healthy dogs back before mine. They only took her back after she threw up blood in the lobby. They charged me 825 dollars to treat her and came up with a diagnosis of HGE (hemorrhagic gastroenteritis). The vet treated my 3yr old dog for 3 hours and said that she was stable and they were closing, to take her home although her blood work hadn't improved, assured me that my dog was stable and to bring her back in the next morning for more fluids and more medicine.
I took my dog home and within 2 hrs blood was pouring out of both ends of her. Her breathing became labored. I rushed her to a 24-hr ER where she passed. So her treatment was delayed because of the two young people at the desk didn't take me seriously and were playing on their phones. And the vet sent my dog home unstable and never once mentioned maybe she should be kept overnight for observation... this hospital is a joke!!! Then they called me to apologize and then told me no refund would be given. I looked at my dog's medical records that I requested and there's contraindicating statements in it and more mistakes. I'm taking them to small claims and suing!!! This vet's license should be suspended!!!

Fortunately when I took my pet to the Banfield Hospital in Waldorf, MD he wasn't sick. I scheduled an appoint for 2:30 in the afternoon on a Saturday and was there on time. I was finally called by at 3:00. 15 minutes later a "Nurse" came in and looked at the computer then began asking me about my pet’s shots. I told her I had dropped off his records earlier this morning and after checking with the front desk found out they couldn't find them.
They had misplaced them. I had a copy in my purse which I provided to the Nurse and told the nurse my pet only needed to have his bordetella updated. She said she would be back with the vet in about 2 minutes. By 3:35 I still had not seen the vet or the nurse again. I stepped out of the room and told the front desk that I was leaving as they were apparently so busy they couldn't see me.
I was told that I was next and the vet should be with me in a few minutes, that the vet was making notes and would be in shortly. I told her she had 5 minutes and then I was leaving. Almost 8 minutes later I took my pet and walked out the door. There were about 6 people waiting in the lobby, all of the rooms were full and there appeared to only be 1 vet working there. I will not use Banfield again as I feel they are irresponsible, unorganized by losing paperwork, and treat every client as a number.
They could care less about the pets people bring to them and are only in it for the money. If you are considering enrolling in their wellness plans I would seriously find somewhere else to go. You may end up paying more but at least you will get the proper care and treatment your pet deserves and will get someone who truly cares about your pet as much as you do. STAY AWAY FROM BANFIELD. Oh and I only gave them one star because you are required to put one. I would give them "0" if it were possible.

I would warn anyone against using their services and especially their scam of a wellness plan. When I moved into my house 2 years ago, I needed to find a vet more conveniently located than our last one. I went to Banfield to get their shots and was talked into their wellness plan. At the end of the year, I called and cancelled the plan and had my dogs' records sent to a wonderful vet that I'd found. Shame on me for not noticing, but I just found that they've continued to withdraw from my account for the past 6 mos!
I immediately contacted them and have been told that the plan automatically renews, a fact I am not disputing. However, it is not supposed to renew when you cancel it. I clearly asked the clinic if there was anything more I needed to do to cancel the service and was told no and there is no clear instruction in the paperwork that tells you to do anything different. Now, I have to fight to get my $420 back. I've started researching and find that many people have this same issue. So, sharing this warning with everyone else.

I took my 12-year-old golden to Banfield on a Sunday. She wasn't eating and was having a hard time holding her head steady. I had called another emergency pet hospital and explained her symptoms. She said it sounded like vertigo. When we got to Banfield and explained the symptoms and told her what the other pet hospital said. Both the tech and vet had a problem with what they had told me. They wanted to put an IV in so they could do a urinalysis for $200.00 and run a bunch of bloodwork. I asked why they need a urinalysis and they said to make sure she was able to eliminate the urine. I told them no to the IV and I would only pay $200.00 for the visit and the blood work. They came back in and said they thought she might have an ear infection which is causing vertigo.
They gave her a pain shot and sent us home with antibiotics and Tramadol. I was told to give her the antibiotic and 100g of Tramadol as soon as we took her home and every 12 hours. I gave her the medication as soon as we got home and then gave her 2nd dose around 3:00 am. When my husband woke at 8:00 he tried to wake her up and she wouldn't respond. I called Banfield and explained how we couldn't get a response out of her and she had shallow breathing. She told me this is very common for dogs to act this way on the Tramadol and not to worry. Well within 5minutes she passed away. Everything I explained to the employee is what is listed as an overdose. They caused my dog's death. I hope nobody ever takes any animal to this horrible place.

My wife and I signed up for the puppy wellness plan with our new pup in June 2014. We had "ok" service for 6 to 7 months and particularly good service with one vet whom we liked. In January of 2015 we had our "graduation" exam. I thought that was odd considering we had a "one year" wellness plan. At the time we asked about future plans and costs and were given little packets and some quoted prices. We quickly decided, and stated to the folks at the local hospital, that we WOULD NOT continue with the adult wellness plan (or whatever they call it).
Lo and behold, in July 2015 we noticed they were still charging our accounts. We called and were on hold for at least 40 minutes before speaking to Charles. They agreed to cancel our plan but could not refund (or return) our money. Charles spoke to his supervisor and still the same result. He stated that their records indicate a message was left regarding the automatic renewal (one we did not receive). He also stated there was no record of our request to end the service in their hospital notes (convenient). I then asked how to rectify this situation, and asked if we could receive service of equal value to what we have paid.
We were told that a comprehensive exam would be less but the hospital staff would essentially be compelled to provide more services that would exceed what we paid. Long story short, I DO NOT suggest anyone use Banfield. The service is not worthwhile and they took our money without fair service in return. We have a small local vet office we use now that is cheaper. They know our pets and they have 24-hour emergency service.

The "Vet" behaved as a typical used car salesman. He was very pushy, aggressive and intimidating. We brought the dog due to a nail infection. From across the room he diagnosed it as a tumor. He went on and on about the complexity of the tumor, the pathology test and even the possibility of removing the toe. Immediately, he started talking about the pet insurance. We asked also about a tiny eyelid lump or bump, again from across the room he stated, "I can see a tumor from here." After this long distance examination, he started the actually physical exam.
He looked inside the ear, and stated, "there is another tumor here," immediately realizing that it was just the normal anatomy of the year. In less than 10 minutes, he diagnosed my dog with 2, almost 3 tumors. He refused to prescribe an antibiotic to initially treat the infection, nail infection. We were so mad when we left that office. We've already told about 10 people about this horrible service and the scare tactic used by this Vet. We will never use Banfield again. I wish I could be reimbursed the $42.95 we wasted there. Our first visit at Banfield was with our sick cat who had been vomiting, not eating normally, and had some diarrhea. The staff seemed very nice and seemed really helpful, giving her some fluids as well as something to calm her stomach. They set us up on the wellness plan, which seemed like a God-send to us because of everything it included. Our cat got better and back to herself within a few days and we scheduled our next appt for her first round of shots. The first round went well and the next week we were back for the second round.
After the second round of shots our cats lip swelled really big and turned red. We could tell she was uncomfortable and took her back to Banfield. They said it was a reaction to the shots and put her on steroids. For 10 days! If you've never had a pet on steroids before then you are lucky! It makes them absolutely miserable and they literally experience "roid-rage" and misery continues for 1-2 wks even AFTER they finish the meds! So after she finished the meds and her lip was better they told me I had to wait one more week to have her spayed because of her just being on steroids, so ok whatever. Well after a week I call and talk to a nurse about everything and schedule her to be spayed.
The day of her surgery I take her in, fill out the form that specifically says to contact me FIRST if there will be any additional charges, and I leave. Two hours later they call me to tell me that it will cost an additional 80 dollars (which I didn't have right then, on top of the fact that I had to pay for the e-collar and make my payment for the wellness plan that day) because she needed the non-generic pain meds due to the steroids still being in her system! Even though they made us wait the extra week for that very reason!
So I told them, that we would have to do it another day then because I didn't have the extra money, but it was too late! They already did the surgery and administered the pain meds! So after borrowing the money I picked up my cat and all was good, until her lip swelled up two days later. I took her in and they switched her pain meds to an even more expensive medication and then they told me that she would need a biopsy and would have to be on steroids the rest of her life!!!
Well, there was no way I was going to make her miserable for the rest of her life without a second opinion! So I took her to vet near my home, and they were a bit more expensive unfortunately. Anyway, as soon as I begun telling the new vet what was going on he stopped me and asked if her bowls were made of plastic? And I said “Yes, why?” And he told me that plastic bowls tend to absorb and hold bacteria in them after a few months, even with regular washing. I was dumbfounded! Like are you kidding me? He told me before we try anything else to switch her bowls and see if it makes a difference. My cat has not had a swollen lip since! No biopsy, no steroids, and "roid- rage" for the rest of her life!!! I am so thankful, as you could imagine, but I am torn though because of the fact that to me that falls more toward the "life experience" category than to the "reckless vet" category... Take everything with a grain of salt.

After noticing my dog had not been feeling well for a few days, I decided to get make an appt and get him in to be looked at with the staff at Banfield. After being seen by the vet, she told me that he was just a little dehydrated but they needed to run tests to see the root cause. So after being seen and taken back by 11:30 am, I received a phone call from the vet telling me that he has stones "again" and that I needed to come back and discuss surgery. Being that he never had stones before kinda threw me off. So I got another call within 10 minutes saying she grabbed the wrong paperwork. OK.. So about an hour after that call, she called again telling me that he was all ready to go and that he checked out well.
By this time, I'm not understanding how he's so well so quickly. So sure enough she called back again to say she accidently grabbed the wrong paperwork. So now I'm on edge that the results of my dog's may be questionable. So I finally went back at 5:30 pm as told by the staff when I dropped him off that day. He seemed a little better but still not himself. But told he would be a bit sluggish for a day or so. But I was assured that he had a good bill of health and that he will be good to go. So Sunday, a vet assistant called and checked on my dog and I told him that he was still sluggish. He said that I should give the medicine time to work and if he continues to be sluggish, for me to call them back.
So by Monday he still seemed sluggish and had gotten to the point he may not have been diagnosed right. I decided he needed to go back. So Tuesday morning as I went to get him out of his kennel, I found him dead. I called back to Banfield and the only thing the vet could tell me was sorry, he seemed good to go and she couldn't tell me what happened and that his test results were normal.
I asked her about the 2 phone calls that she accidently made and if there was a possibility that she could have made a mistake in treatment? And of course she made a heck of explanation about the mix up on the phone calls. So after filing a complaint with them, wanting a full refund for the vet bill, as well as $1500 to replace my certified and registered Bully. I was only able to get them to refund the vet bill. My healthy 11 yr. old cat has finally died after 10 months of fighting for his life, bleeding day in and day out, as a result of ** Vaccinating him unethically causing him to now have Cancer. On August 18th, 2014 I took my 11 yr. old, indoor cat who was completely healthy and full of life to Banfield Pet hospital because I was interested in getting his teeth cleaned after noticing some plaque buildup. When bringing him in that day, I was recommended to sign up for the wellness plan, being that it included dental cleaning.
I had no interest in anything else, being my cat was strictly indoors and has never had any previous health issues before. They explained to me that I would save money if I signed up for the wellness plan, and without it, the cleaning would be much more expensive. So I signed up for it, and set a date for the cleaning, and that's when I was recommended to bring him in for blood work prior to the cleaning to make sure that he was in good health and safe to put under anesthesia for the cleaning. I made my appointment with Dr. ** specifically, and that's when ** came in her place and mentioned that she was called into surgery, and that he would take over for her. He asked me what brought me in, I told him to make sure he's in the clear for his dental cleaning, and he mentioned that they would do blood work the day OF the dental cleaning (which I couldn't understand) and that he would be getting his exam today.
He exits and shortly returns with a Pink fluid vaccine and a white syringe. The white one he gave orally, the pink he mentioned was a Rabies vaccine, and I was never informed on these Vaccines or him getting any that day. I'm one to always research things before trying them, and would've never have allowed my cat to be vaccinated after reading all of the statistics on animals who get vaccinated becoming fatally ILL!!! Also, I came to find out that my cat was given Zoetis Defenser 3 yr. rabies vaccine, As well as feline distemper!!! When was this shot given??? It was when I allowed them to take my cat to the back to trim his nails. Yes, Banfield vets bonus off of the vaccines/sign ups.
I did my research and discovered that Vaccines are proven to be one of the leading causes of Vaccine-induced Cancers. I was never communicated by Dr. ** of the odds/side effects or offered a tither test, he just came in and quickly Vaccinated my cat, and administered the heartworm. I only seen him give those two meds to my cat, and requested his nails to be trimmed. That's when he took my animal to the back, and apparently also gave him a distemper shot, because later on about a week or two after he has been bleeding from his abdominal area where he began retaining fluid shortly after the vaccines, I picked up his records from Banfield to have him looked at by another hospital, and it was listed as one he received that day. I was furious to know this!!!
Between all of these vaccines, my cat was being poisoned, and as a result of this, had an immediate auto immune response, and began retaining bloody fluid in his abdominal pouch. This nightmare has been ongoing since August 26. Roughly when I discovered this I began to seek answers for this retention in his abdomen and NO ONE could provide any. The hospital wouldn't take responsibility for none of this, and the Manager ** had ZERO compassion for all that I was going through as a result of all that was done there. He actually gave me an attitude for being emotional over my pet's condition, and refused to help me in any way with the diagnosis. I then filed a complaint with the corporate office client "advocate" team, and they had no resolution for me and zero regard for this unbelievable matter other than to refer me BACK to speak with ** the Manager again about my concerns.
At the time, I wanted them to help me find a diagnosis for these symptoms that arose from these vaccines and explained that I am part time at work and have exhausted my savings trying to get answers. They refused, and I now was able to get a biopsy done at Miami Shores animal hospital who immediately came back with "Hemangiosarcoma", an aggressive cancer rare in cats, common in dogs. A cat who was perfectly healthy prior to these vaccines, and just days later started with the symptoms of this kind of Sarcoma and now he IS DEAD!!! MY ANGEL PASSED ON SUNDAY 6/28/2015 AFTER bleeding out every day on and off since August, and I have gave him homeopathic meds from HAMPL to ease the pain and slow the process of spreading. Yet Banfield has the audacity to put me in collections for a so-called wellness plan that killed my cat!!!
This company has thousands of reviews like mine! What is it going to take to get them investigated and eventually shut down??? Never ever take your pets to any Banfield, unless you want them to die. I wish I can undo the damage, and bring my baby back, my heart aches like never before. I just wanted to take good care of my boy, I wanted to do right by him by trying to get his teeth cleaned, that's all! I never wanted vaccines! The convinced me to sign up for the package and vaccinated him first! Before anything else, and that caused a reaction! I have documented the entire process of what happened to him from start to finish, with pictures and wrote on the cat site dot com about his condition looking for answers.
There is nothing they can do to undo the damage they caused my cat or to me and my family. I just want to make the public aware of how unethical this Veterinarian ** is, along with those I spoke with in this company. I will never know what was in that syringe, all I do know is my cat reacted horribly after ** Vaccinated him!!! And he was perfect! A1 condition, took vitamins for me with no problem, drank purified water, ate grain free foods, and stood indoors his entire life!! ** the manager was of no help to me during my time in distress attempting to find answers. The corporate office was also of no help to me as well. I even contacted the manufacturer of the vaccine Zoetis defensor and they only documented the incident for their records! Nothing more.
I have suffered tremendously watching my cat endure such cruel pain FOR ALL OF 10 months day in and day out. I cry several times a day, and have stood up countless hours sleeping only 2-3 hours a day on average just attempting to diagnose and treat his symptoms myself, also to replace Training pads from my bed and floor due to them being filled with blood!!! That image will never leave my head. He couldn't even use the litter box anymore, cause the leg where he received the vaccine lost 90% of its muscle and his entire stomach was raw with the flesh exposed!!! I even landed in the Aventura emergency room for exhaustion, anxiety and stress, when I don't have health insurance. That means more debt all because of this single incident.
Please learn from my hard lesson. If you love your pet, run for your life and their precious life!!! I only wish I knew all I know now about the thousands of cases of innocent animals harmed and or killed at the hands of Banfield! It's unreal that they are still in business! That isn't conceivable to me!!! I want justice for my cat! I want ** to lose his license for malpractice, and I want Banfield hospitals investigated thoroughly and shut down for good! As I know they would be if they were investigated properly.

I've taken my dog to the Bellmore, NY location twice already. There are two Banfield locations closer to my home but they never seem to have any open appointments. Late last night I noticed that my dog's back foot was again infected. He keeps licking it, re-infecting it, which was the reason for the last two appointments. The associates at Banfield are very good at talking people into taking their medical insurance for their pets, but what good is having medical coverage, offering unlimited visits at the hospital, if I'm unable to get an appointment when my dog needs to see a doctor?
At one of the Banfield locations, the associate told me to call a local animal hospital for an emergency appointment! At another of their locations they told me to drop the dog off by 11am and the doctor would see the dog between his appointments, but there would be a $20 charge for watching the dog for the day! I asked her why they couldn't just tell me when the doctor had a few minutes and I'd have the dog there at that time. Why should I have to pay them for watching my dog and then have to make two round trip appointments instead of the one if we had an appointment? And why should I have a medical plan if I can't get an appointment when one is needed?
I asked to speak to a manager and told her that I was going to cancel the medical plan, demand a refund for moneys already paid and file complaints with Consumer Affairs and Better Business Bureau. About two hours later they called me to let me know that they were able to fit my dog in for an appointment at 3pm but this time, at the Levittown location. Totally insane! Every time my dog has to see a vet, it's at a different location. Had I realized this, I would have never taken out the medical insurance. I may still cancel this coverage and just pay for the visits as I have in the past. So, keep your money and don't be dumb, like me. What's the chances that your dog will need unlimited appointments? I've been fortunate with my pets and never really incurred any large bills.

I was a customer for over five years. I wasn't able to take my pet in for almost two years. I paid the monthly fee of 24.95 each month. The first year was completely my fault. I didn't make time to get in and I didn't expect Banfield to do anything about it. Unfortunately, the second year was outside of my control. I moved to an area where there was no Banfield but I didn't cancel plan. After paying over $600 for services that I did not use, waiting for 30 minutes on hold, the customer service rep offered me TWO months where I wouldn't have to make payments. YEAH RIGHT! I definitely didn't expect a full refund, but for them to offer me $50 compared to the $600 I paid was a total slap in the face. I immediately cancelled the plan. They obviously do not care about retaining clients. They just want the money. Crooks.

On May 10, 2015 I took my dog Austin to Banfield Pet Hospital in Abingdon, MD because he was acting lethargic and not himself. Dr. ** looked him all over and took his temperature. He stated that the temperature was high and that he would need to keep Austin and give him some fluids. While in the waiting room, the doctor was going over various tests and procedures that he could perform to better assess and treat Austin. My family was in total agreeance to whatever it would take to get Austin better. It included a test that would check his pancreas and other organs. Suddenly for some reason, the doctor began stating that instead of using direct IV fluids, he would just shoot some IV fluids under the skin.
We agreed and were preparing to leave. The doctor suddenly looked at Austin's rear end. When he did, he observed that Austin's rear end was swollen and pussy. The doctor then stated that the problem was Austin's rear end. He said that it was infected. He said that the fluids that he would give Austin would help. We left Austin and when we called to check on him, Dr. ** stated that Austin was getting better and would be ready to come home soon. When we returned, Austin's fever was still elevated. The doctor said that Austin would be fine and that he was ready to go home. I asked several questions about how to treat him including how to lower his fever. I was reassured that the fluids that were given to Austin would sustain him.
That night, we kept Austin on ice pads and watched him closely. He never appeared to be any better. The next morning around 5am, we were awakened to this wrenching sound that Austin was making. We ran to him and despite attempts at CPR, Austin died. We checked his temperature and it was 105 degrees. We called Banfield and ultimately spoke to Dr. **. When we told the doctor that Austin had died, he was surprised. He then began to say that he could have treated Austin more aggressively. He said that he could have given him direct IV which would have worked faster, but he thought that we were not in a position to do that. When we asked him what would make him think that we were not in a position to do whatever it took to save our dog, the doctor was speechless.
I called to stop our Banfield insurance and was told that we would still have to continue to pay though they would take off some of the cost. I complained and was told that those were the rules. I was given a number to complain about the service that my dog received at the vet. I called and was told that an investigation would be opened. About 5 days later, we received a call from the Practice Manager, ** at Banfield. She indicated that we would not have to pay the remaining cost of the monthly insurance premiums. I contacted the investigation department and asked for the results of the investigation. I also told them that I didn't think it was fair that we had to pay for the doctor bill when the doctor clearly did not treat our dog appropriately, resulting in his death.
I once again asked them what happened that resulted in my dog's death. I also asked them for the results of the investigation. They told me that they would look into it and get back to me. Not long after, the practice manager called and left a voicemail message saying that we would not be responsible for the vet bill and that they would refund it to us. She indicated that she was trying to confirm with her corporate office if she could refund the amount back to our credit card or if she had to get a check cut. She ultimately called us back and left a message saying that she could credit the card back.
When my husband went back to Banfield on Monday, June 29th and tearfully asked for the refund he was taken back into an examination room. He was told that they would refund the money but only if he signed papers which would release Banfield from any damages. Dr. ** was on site this day and in charge. She admitted that Dr. ** made a mistake. **, the practice manager was in the room and witnessed this as well. They are actually admitting that the doctor made a mistake and are trying to give us our money back while signing papers to say that we won't blame them.
At the end of the day, my Austin is gone and our loss is more painful than anyone can image. My husband left the office and told them that we would get back to them. I would not recommend this practice and have submitted a complaint to the state board against them.

My appointment was for 8:30 am. When I got there the doors were locked even though the sign on the door said they open at 8. Finally close to 9 someone opened the store door to my ringing of the bell at that door. The vet doorbell was torn out. The girl at the door told me that the vet door was for deliveries only. No sign on the door said that. I brought my cat in because her ears were bothering her. I also had a free exam coupon from their website which I was told I could not use because I was already in their system. The coupon said nothing like that.
My cat's ears were scraped and I was told treatment with medication would cost $214! Who can afford that? I asked if they couldn't bring the cost down closer to $100. I was told they couldn't. So nothing was done for my cat. And I still was charged $80!!! I thought I would give this place one more chance. Earlier in the year I took a dog I had just adopted in for a wellness exam (used a coupon), but the dog was never examined. Instead the time was spent trying to sell me one of their plans. My Husband and I signed up for the 1 year wellness plan for our puppy. Apparently, in the paperwork you sign there it states that the plan auto renews. I do not remember this, but that doesn't mean it's not true. However, they do not inform customers when the renewal date is coming up. We haven't visited Banfield in over 8 months, so we decided we no longer wanted or needed the plan. I went online and discovered that my plan was due to renew this month. I called THE DAY THE MONEY WAS TO BE WITHDRAWN FROM MY ACCOUNT and canceled the plan.
The charge was showing as pending on my account and they REFUSED to cancel the transaction or refund those monies. And when asked to speak with a manager or supervisor, I was transferred to their voicemail. I called back and was told that was the only way to get in contact with a manager or supervisor and that it could take 1 to 2 days before they call you back. What kind of crap customer service is that. Banfield will never get my business ever again, and I will be sure to pass along this experience that I've had to every pet owner I know or meet. My animals had contracts with Banfield for several years and those contracts appeared to save us money. Then on new year's day 2013 they diagnosed my Shepherd Mix as having Diabetes. She had to have insulin shots and a special diet. Her diabetes was managed well with regular visits to her vet. In October of 2013 she started to lose weight and she was doing things she had never done before. She was eating 6 cups of dog food a day and she was still looking for more to eat. She was raiding the trash cans so I put them up. With all that food she was still losing weight.
In March of 2014 her shoulder, spine and hip bones were protruding and she had a pot bellied appearance. I took her to Banfield again (she was normally seen 2-3 times a month) and her vet said she was overweight and that I needed to feed her less. When I asked the vet why her hip bones were sticking out the vet replied "She is not getting enough exercise so she is losing muscle mass." I took her home and gave her 1 cup less of food. Three days later I saw her pulling tissues out of the box and eating them. This went on for 2 months.
Then I took her back to Banfield but she saw a different vet as her vet wasn't in that day. She was diagnosed with Cushing's Disease and 2 fractured teeth. The vet wanted me to take extreme measures to keep her going. When I told the vet that she was suffering greatly and that I did not want to prolong her life she suggested that I surrender her to someone that did (foster care). I knew that something had been very wrong as I had witnessed her sufferings for many months. In June of 2014 I took her somewhere else and with careful consideration we all decided it would be best to end her life. I feel that they tried to prolong her life in order to receive the money they would have gotten to keep her in their system.

I signed a contract for one year of the Wellness plan & I signed up to get my dog neutered. On the day I signed the contract - I sure wish I would have read it better! My dog received his 1st check up & they did a biopsy on his ear on a growth he had. And I was told they would call me in a couple days with all the results. I didn't hear anything back. But I thought with it being Good Friday weekend & the Holidays and such it might take a bit longer. So I waited about a week & a half & I called them. They said they would have to call me back the vet was not in. That he would call me the next day. Well no call. So 3 days pass & I call them back again & I get "Oh we were just about to call you. The doctor is with a patient. He will call you back this afternoon." Nothing.
I called back again and asked to speak with the manager. She got on the phone and explained my labs were lost and they have been trying to find them before they called me back. I should have canceled my membership then! BUT I went in & she refunded me the Lab fees that were lost. I still do not have the other test results. She said "Oh the doctor didn't call you with them??" That was the end of that. I'm hoping my dog is healthy! All I know so far is he is heartworm negative. I scheduled the Neuter procedure I signed up for, for my next visit. I was told "Bring him in at 7 am. He would be the 1st procedure of the day." I did and went home to wait. 2 hours later I get a call. "Can you come up and hold your dog while we sedate him? He won't let anyone near the kennel." I was livid at that point. I went up there got my dog out of the kennel, talked to the manager again & told her I want to cancel my membership.
She gave me a card with the # to cxl, stating she cannot do anything there. So I took my dog home & called the # on the card. Explained everything to the customer service rep. She said she will cancel my membership when I pay the $637.00 balance. I said "balance for what???" She said services I have received. I asked her if a Yearly checkup & Rabies shot cost $637.00. She said she didn't know. She can't see the invoice. I have to talk to the Store manager. So I called the store manager again! She said it's not worth fighting over. She would talk care of it. So I waited another week. Called the Cancelation # again to make sure the manager took care of it. It's still is not done! Yesterday I talked to another customer service rep. He called & talked to the store manager after I told him she won't return my calls anymore.
He got back on the phone with me & not only was he rude - but said to me - I can pay a one time right then $200.00 payment & they will cancel my membership & if I don't they will turn me over to a collection agency, and it will ruin my credit! I can't believe he even said that!!! My bill isn't even due yet! AND I'm not past due either. How can they turn me over to a collection agency. This is hands down the worst company I have ever dealt with in my life. And Pet owners take warning of this service for your Fur Babies! Thank you for your time!

Jacksonville Fl on Southside Blvd. This is the worst excuse for an animal hospital that I have ever been to. From the front cashier to the head vet and the supervisor. I was advised of Banfield when I got my puppy because of the Wellness plan. I went in hard sell but very nice when you are buying the plan. First shots were okay, but when I took her to the spay appt. the girl out front told me that the vet likes to pull baby teeth at the same time and it could be up to $200.00. If I did not agree it would be $100. A tooth later. So much for the spay being a deal. No mention when I bought the plan. I said ok paid the extra. Picked her up that afternoon she was groggy but okay. They gave me pills or I probably paid for them. Had to buy a collar they couldn't get theirs to go in. The next morning she was pooping blood.
Took her back in it was a Sat. They kept her for an hour sold me more pills and special food. Told me to quit the other pills. She was sick for two weeks before her bleeding stopped and she recovered. Fast forward time for Bordetella shot. I was hesitant to take her back but I was paying the plan. I made my fatal mistake on a Friday. Took her in got her shot and they wormed her in the back without telling me. Only reason I knew was it was on the paper they gave me. We arrived home just in time for her to start throwing up and it never stopped. Sat. morning I called they said couldn't see me but I could bring and let her stay in the back and they would watch her. I made the decision to watch her at home and told them if she got worse I would call. Towards the end of the day I went by myself got pills from them for nausea. The vet never came out to talk to me charged me for pills.
Got pedialyte and more special food, went home she was still bad. Gave her the pills. She wouldn't drink much and when she did she threw up. Long story short she died at 7:30 Sunday morning. We rushed her to emergency vet and it was too late. I called Banfield informed them and they said the vet would call me Monday. He called and was defensive and very rude told me it was not the shot she must have eaten something in my yard which she had only been off a leash maybe three times. Not very sensitive to my being upset at all. Start telling me how she was a hybrid and they don't know a lot about them. I shouldn't have bought from a pet store etc. I called the main office and talked to an advocate who assured me that the supervisor would call me. Well no supervisor called me.
The other vet at the location called and treated me just as bad as the first one. Defended everything they did and again told me she must have eaten something in the yard. So I told call the advocate again and tell her I want the supervisor to call. Supervisor called and was basically just as uncaring and defensive as the vets. She asked what I wanted her to do and I said I wanted all my money back and the price of my dog. She all but laughed in my face and said I will stop your contract and that is all we will do for you. Oh and she advised me to adopt a dog instead of buying one which is really none of her business. Stay away terrible business not heart for the animals. All they want is money get you in and out as fast as they can. I have since learned the franchise is Mars candy corp and it is a front for vets to make fast money. Pet Smart should be ashamed for letting them lease in their stores. I will go to Pet Smart again either.

My wife and I had taken our puppy Bhindi (long-haired dachshund mix) into the Banfield Pet Hospital on Rome Hilliard Rd. in Columbus, OH for his shots. They didn't bother to keep him a little longer and keep their eye on him to make sure he wasn't going to have any type of bad reaction to any of the shots. They just said he was all done and we could take him home. A half hour after we got home, Bhindi started swelling up in his face - he couldn't see, and he was having a lot of trouble breathing. As mentioned, he's a long-haired dachshund mix, but that night, he was swollen so much in his face that he looked more like a Sharpei.
We called Banfield back and they said that their vet had a "prior engagement" and wouldn't be available to see Bhindi. We found out later that this "prior engagement" was simply a party that he wanted to go to. So basically, the vet was more interested in going to his stupid party than attending to an animal that had been in his care. Anyway, in a panic, my wife called a local vet who we thought was going to be super expensive (and our bank account was low), and explained the situation. The local vet, who was getting ready to close, told us they would stay open for us and told us to get Bhindi in there right away, as time was of the essence. They also told us that they would be happy to accept a post-dated check.
They were more concerned about Bhindi's well-being than being paid right then and there. So, this vet saw Bhindi, and literally saved his life. Basically, we almost lost Bhindi because Banfield didn't care enough about the situation to stay open for us just a little longer to make sure he was treated and was okay. Thankfully, due to the local vet who was so kind to us, Bhindi is still alive (and happy). I will NEVER take any pet into a Banfield Hospital ever again, and have told many other pet owners that I know not to use Banfield (if they value the life of their pet.)

First let me start with - they say the prices are better than taking your puppy to a vet, which in fact is a lie because they don't cover anything. You have to pay for everything they give your dog. Next they don't give proper diagnosis. Our puppy fell off our bed and broke all his paws. They said that they had to x-ray which was around 400 dollars because they had to put him to sleep. Than after the x-ray came back they told us his paw couldn't be saved and the only thing we could do was to remove his entire leg "Which was a lie".
Then after we took him to an actual vet hospital where they needed to take more x-ray which was a lot cheaper than the Banfield Pet Hospital in PETSMART. We only paid 40 for the x-ray and to fix his paws was around 400 dollars plus tax. The vet realigned all his paws and our dog is almost a year now and hasn't had any problem at all. His leg was fully healed 6 months ago and hasn't had any problems at all since. Even though I got stuck paying the monthly payment I won't be renewing my plan with this horrible company.
I wish I read the reviews before I got it last year. Would have saved me a lot of money. I feel bad about all the dog and cats they amputated because they lied to the owner. I hope that these people go out of business and hope that someone reads my review and chooses not to get a plan with them. IF YOU EVER HAVE TO DO ANYTHING WITH YOUR ANIMAL PLEASE TAKE IT TO A EMERGENCY ROOM PET HOSPITAL. YOU WILL SAVE MONEY AND GET ACTUAL TREATMENT FOR YOUR PET.

I was taking all four of my pets (2 dogs, and 2 cats) to Banfield for years. We chose them because my husband was in the military, and an international chain meant being able to transfer our pets anywhere he might end up being stationed. We made the mistake of purchasing "wellness plans" for our two dogs. Firstly, the wellness plans are a joke. Every vet visit, even for preventative care, set me back between $200 - $500, after my "discounts".
The staff and vets at each location were nice enough, but they lacked consistency between their methods, and seemed constantly rushed. Anything other than routine preventative care seemed beyond the capabilities of Banfield to handle. My 10 year old German Shepherd's health has been declining steadily over the past 6-8 months. Despite repeated trips to Banfield, we never could seem to get his issued resolved. I was spending a fortune and getting nowhere.
Recently we moved to a new city, and had yet to find a new vet that wasn't at Banfield. My dog's health took a sudden turn for the worse last week; he was so weak he could not stand on his own. Not knowing where else to go, I rushed him to Banfield. He spent the day there, got some fluids and a few minor tests run to determine the cause. Despite being there the entire day, it wasn't until after 5 before I heard anything from the vet, and what they did find wasn’t sufficient to explain his sudden decline.
I explained to the vet I wasn't planning on coming back, and why I was going to find a local vet instead for his future care. Much to my surprise she agreed with me and explained that she was the ONLY vet scheduled for the day with 40 + appointments booked plus surgeries!!! Apparently this is a typical Banfield practice. I was astonished! No wonder the staff always seemed rushed and incapable of handling anything other than routine preventative care. They are beyond over worked. Banfield is a class action lawsuit waiting to happen. They advertise themselves as the best care possible, but instead overcharge for subpar care.
I took my dog to another vet the next day that provided AMAZING care for a fraction of the cost, and actually took the time to educate me as a pet owner. I was so upset to find out many of the treatments Banfield was providing were not the best options for my pet, but also placed them at unnecessary risk while costing my much more than what I would have paid for better treatments elsewhere.
Example: Banfield pushed an expensive heartworm shot for my two dogs instead of the monthly pills, claiming it would better protect them. What they failed to tell me was that the shot does not protect against intestinal parasites, which the pill they were on did. What nearly killed my dog, but we never had an issue with before switching to the shot??? Intestinal parasites!!! We went round after round trying to treat his parasites with Banfield, and had little success (obviously). But never once did any Banfield vet recommend switching back to the oral heartworm preventative, which would have help stop my dog from becoming reinfected with intestinal parasites again and again.
This just one negative example of many that I experienced with various Banfield Pet Hospitals in the nearly 9 years I was taking my pets there. More often than not the vets pushed expensive care that didn't really seem to make sure, and generally resulted having to make trip after trip to resolve (like an ear infection taking 8 months to resolve). My best advice to any other pet owner is to do your research, ask family and friends for recommendations on vets in your area, seek a second opinion if something doesn't feel right, and above all else… AVOID BANFIELD!!!!

No matter what I take my pet into their office for, they continually try to talk me into or make me think in order for my dog to be okay I need this service $250.00 or this test $150.00, etc. I have never gone in there with my pet without them trying to suggest extra testing that cost $$$. I have a wellness plan but it is not ever enough. My husband will NOT take our dog there ever again. He does not want to put up with their costly suggestions on what our pet needs. I do not like being pressured into all this unnecessary options they continue to suggest. Tonight, I thought my dog had a bladder infection. They asked me if I would bring in a urine sample, I finally got one, refrigerated it til our appt. I also asked what the cost was for this urine analysis, I was put on hold and I was then told that it would be approx. $50.00.
When I brought in the urine, I tried to explain to the vet why I thought my dog had a possible bladder infection. I do not know whether she had a UTI or not. Then the assistant came back and said she could not get a reading on the urine specimen. She said she tried another sample for another pet and everything was working fine. She wanted me to try and get another urine specimen. She took my dog to try get one herself and then she came back and said it wasn't necessary, that she got a reading of the urine I brought in. I said "You just told me you weren't able to." She then said she cleaned the equipment off and it read fine. (Really?)
Then there were more discussion about checking her for stones in her bladder. Said there wasn't really an infection, but thought it was important to do this x-ray $250.00 on her bladder. I have an appt. on July 1st for a dental cleaning and she said that checking to see if she had a stone in her bladder was more important right now than the dental cleaning. My dog needs her teeth cleaned now too, her gums are red and she had her last cleaning less than a yr ago, and her teeth are bothering her. I was very UPSET to say the least. I told them I just wanted my bill. I was told it was $91.61. They charged me for hospitalization-ward fee of $53.69. My dog was not hospitalized and I brought the urine in myself like they asked me to. I was charged $37.92 for urinalysis. This cost was with a 20% discount for being on a wellness plan. Total of $91.61. I stated I wanted an antibiotic. I got a prescription for one, I paid my bill, was very upset and left.
Remember, every time I took my dog in, I was approached with a major suggestion for some high priced test or ultrasound, etc. So every time I am stressed out by these people who are employed by Banfield "big corporation." I have always had pets but I have never been put through this kind of pressure before by any other vet. I do not feel it is the vet's fault. I say this because I saw this vet 2 months earlier and she was not pushy about anything. I asked for a dental test. in April and again for one now, and the whole story has changed on pricing. I feel they are required to do this for their jobs. My opinion but I think it is true. I am not sure I ever want to go back there so I am trying to find another vet with a wellness plan like I had before. Being a first time puppy owner I wanted to best for my pet. After seeing the financial burden of having a puppy struggling with Giardia and a sensitive stomach I decided to get pet insurance. Banfield yeses you to death when you sign up, gives you a great deal and the insurance even covered my puppies' spaying! I thought I'd got the best thing. Little did I know after I was no longer a new patient they threw me on the back burner. Getting an appointment at ANY Long Island location is impossible. My puppy was not eating, had a swollen stomach, and uncontrollable loose stools. So being concerned I called to try and get an appointment (on Monday). They could not see me until Friday. And I called 4 Banfield hospitals.
After calling corporate and getting in touch with the manager they found time to get me in but told me that I would probably have to sit there and wait for a half an hour even though I had an appointment. Which would not have been an issue if it was on the same day I called. But they couldn't even get me on that day, it had to be two days later. To me and I think every concerned pet owner this is unacceptable and I will never get a plan with them again. Thankfully my puppy is okay now but no thanks to them. Please beware the Banfield charm. They are overbooked, have long waits with doctors who rush in and out and you will never be able to get the appointment you need in the event of an emergency.

I took my dog into Banfield on 8/1/14 for her annual shots - she had been a member of their Wellness Plan for at least eight years. They wouldn't give her the shots because they thought she had pancreatitis. They told me of their concerns & recommended a test to confirm. I agreed & they said the test was positive. Two weeks later, I took her to another vet because she still was acting abnormal & could barely walk. I was told she had cancer & a tumor had most likely ruptured (her stomach was full of blood). She passed away two weeks later...
I called to cancel my Banfield plan in mid-August when I discovered that she had been misdiagnosed. They told me that I owed them $358.33 since I was wanting to cancel. This money included annual vaccinations (which she did not receive). They said that my total bill on 8/1/14 totaled $536.21 & since I was a Wellness Plan member, I only had to pay $177.88. But since I was cancelling, I would have to pay the difference - which was $358.33. I could not understand this, since I was on the Wellness Plan at the time of the visit AND since they didn't have the invoice correct AND misdiagnosed her. But, after losing her, I was distraught & the monthly payment continued to be withdrawn from my account until 02/2015. At that time, I contacted my bank & revoked authorization on the auto debit. Now I'm receiving letters from them, stating that my account is past due & would be turned over to a collection agency if I didn't pay.

My Min Pin had diabetes, her sugar level went up, she was in bad shape. I took her in, they gave her fluids, put her in the ICU but at 5:00 they called me to come and get her. I asked them why she was not staying overnight if she was in ICU, they told me they don't keep animals overnight. I told them I was not a vet, I would not know what to do if something happened. They suggested I take her to a hospital that could watch her over that night which would be another charge that I could not afford on top of the 500.00 that they had already charge me. So I brought her home and she died that night. That place sucks. No compassion. It's all about the money. They should not call themselves a hospital. They're nothing more than a walk-in clinic.

I have been reading all of the negative reviews about Banfield. I want to share my opinion. From the start, the paperwork clearly states what is and isn't covered. We took our rescue dog to Banfield two days after we got him. On the first visit, he received his vaccines, a checkup, test for worms, etc. He was scheduled to have his teeth cleaned one month later. During his teeth cleaning, the vet discovered 4 abscessed teeth and 4 loose teeth. She called me while he was under the anesthetic and asked me what I wanted to do. I believed his teeth were bad because he would not chew kibble or treats. We told her to take care of any problems she saw. The anesthetic was covered. The teeth cleaning was covered. The follow-up care was covered. We paid for having 8 teeth pulled. It was around $400.00. After his dental work, our dog was a new pup. He has been fine ever since as far as chewing goes.
Several days after our new pup was in for his first vet appointment, he became very sick. We took him in to be checked. We tried a diet change but he was even sicker a couple days later. We took him back. After blood work, he was diagnosed with pancreatitis. All of the office visits were covered. We paid for lab tests, special foods and hydration. We also received a nice discount for services. At 6 months, Banfield called and reminded us of our mid - year checkup. We took our now healthy pup in for what we thought would be a short appointment. They kept him all day. They did lab work, caught him up on worm meds, did all kinds of tests and reported back... Our pup was in perfect health. Our cost, nothing. When you sign up for Banfield, you sign a one year contract. Much of the treatment your pup will receive is done in the first part of your year's contract. We got our money's worth well within the first 6 months.
If our pup were to die now, of course we would finish paying our year's contract. Banfield is doing US a favor by offering this plan at this cost. Also, they clearly state this is a wellness plan. It is NOT a plan that covers every single medical issue your pup might come up with. If your dog is injured, the office visits are covered but not treatment for the injury. They will give you a discount on the treatment though. If your dog develops a serious medical condition, the office visits are covered but not all expenses for the medical treatment. People who write these negative reviews signed a contract.
If they did not read it and understand it... That is their fault. Ignorance does not count when one signs a contract. We pay $35.95 a month, I believe, and the dental care alone makes me glad I have Banfield. The staff have always treated our little pup with kindness. They are open weekends which is really nice. Yes, our first month with our rescue dog was more expensive because he came to us neglected and uncared for. Banfield gave him his health back... And now his appointments are routine. We appreciate our Banfield office in Avondale, AZ.

Took a dog in and came out with a ridiculous bill. Continued to charge unfairly for every little thing. They care not about your pet. Any procedure to make more money is what they will conduct. My dog had problems following a neutering surgery and they charged to test what's wrong. And then charged to find out what was wrong and then said would need to charge again if they had to do the stitches. Their wellness plan is another scam entirely, so don't get it. It hardly discounts anything you might need.

We recently purchased a wellness plan for our two dogs. Both have received excellent well health care from our Banfield Pet Hospital in North Myrtle Beach, SC. Today, we had an emergency visit because one of our little dogs [Obi Wan Kanobe] was bitten by a large dog. The wound was very deep. I called Banfield and they told me to bring our pet in immediately. They took excellent care of Obi Wan Kanobe. Saw him immediately, addressed his wounds and stitched him up. The entire staff was wonderful. The staff jumped through hoops to rearrange other appointments and take care of our emergency. I'm very pleased with our decision to put our dogs on the Banfield wellness pet plans. Thank you for taking such good care of our fur babies.

The dental actual cleaning was scheduled with my old vets. Banfield felt they might be too fragile for anesthesia - which was honest. My old vets haVe cleaned their teeth all the dogs' lives.

I have three animals - two dogs and a cat, all rescues. My one dog was "fixed" by the docs at Banfield and has been a patient since he was 12 weeks old - I have never had any issues with the staff or his well-being. My second dog is a bit crazier. When we first adopted her I was driving to Banfield for her check up she decided to jump out of my moving vehicle. Thank God she was tethered to the seat, so she didn't get far. She did get some horrible road rash. I was a mess when I arrived. Shelby was bleeding and I of course was upset. They took us right in, no waiting and they comforted me and my dog.
They cleaned her up and recommended bring her back the next day for stitches. Which they put her under anesthesia and such, it was around 300 which I was told in advanced. She has also had multiple ear and eye infections. Meds are never that expensive. Totally reasonable. When she had ringworm doc totally followed up with 4 visits. I never paid anything on those just for meds... I like that can just take them up there whenever I think anything might be wrong and not worry about payments. I also take my cat to them twice a year as recommended. Farmingdale Banfield is wonderful and so are the docs...

The Wellness Plans at Banfield Pet Hospital are a rip off. You already pay through the nose for the plan, but then must also pay for the services. It only discounts them a little. But what really ticked me off, is that I had to have my precious dog put down and when I called to cancel her Wellness Plan, I was told that I had to continue to pay each month (even though she is dead) or come up with the money to pay them back for their services. While some may think this is okay, I think it is a heartless, money-grubbing ploy to make money. If it were me, I would forgive the debt if someone's dog passed away. It's hard enough to go through the death of a beloved pet, let alone, having to be gouged financially for it at the same time.

I then went in person at about 4:30pm and she still wasn't ready. The vet then came out to tell me they pulled blood 3 times from my dog because they detected abnormalities but it turned out to be a machine problem. Not once did they call me to let me know about the abnormalities they thought they found. It took a couple more calls to set up the appointment with the Banfield in the Pet Smart store in Potomac Yards, Alexandria, Va. I saw the vet, who was impeccably courteous and helpful, but when I prepared to leave, the support staff said I would have to pay for the visit because the free offer was only good for cats and dogs.
I refused indignantly, pointing out that throughout the process of setting up the appointment the staff had known that this was an introductory free visit for a guinea pig. THEN... if you sign up for the Wellness Plan, your bill is $354.44 and you can cancel it at any time. They had several "bogus" charges for things that were not done, PLUS...they wanted to see him in 2 weeks.
Still trusting, I did take him back and they said he needed a list of things I know nothing about and the charge was $528.46! I then realized I was being scammed and refused the tests and told them I wanted to cancel and I would not be back! Banfield was closed so I took him to an emergency hospital that's where I was told this would not have happened if the ecolar fit properly. The emergency hospital recatheterized him and kept him for the night.
The next day they told me to take him back to Banfield for further care. The emergency hospital doctor called Banfield to let them know what happened and his condition. Banfield called me and said not to bring him in that he could wait to be seen next day, since the hospital told me he needed further care I took him in anyway. The veterinarian there that day just looked at the catheter bag and said the urine still looked cloudy so I could bring him in the next day to have the catheter taken out. She told me not to give him the medicine from the emergency hospital, just what Banfield had given him. I took him home and he had a very painful night. This is a waaaayyyy overpriced option and rip off! I have been on their plan for my cat for 3 years at 25.95 per month, used it twice, once for neutering and shots and the other for a wellness check... Both times was charged additional fees for services that were supposedly covered at 100%. The monthly charges do NOT cover pain medicine, part of the anesthesia, and some miscellaneous charges for the neutering surgery, so ended up paying over $100 for something that was supposed to be covered. They always recommend more services than what is covered.
I called to cancel in January, it's now May, and I notice that I have still been charged for the past 5 months, plus all of the other many many months I forgot to call and didn't use it. And now they are telling me they have no record of me canceling so I will not get a credit for the past five months, even though I did call and cancel. Nice... awesome customer service...NOT!
And, to give you further insight into the kind of veterinarians they employ.. My daughter's dog got slammed in a car door, and we tried to take him to Banfield Hospital, since it was the closest to our house, and the response of the veterinarian there was that she had just "clocked out" and didn't want to have to "clock back in again" to help us. So the dog could have died because of her lack of interest, concern and responsibility. We found a much better facility in our area that was more than happy to help and thankfully, my daughter's little dog is okay, no thanks to Banfield, though. Take your money and spend it wisely somewhere else, rather than throw it away with this "insurance program" and "veterinary care." It's a total sham!!!

Well where do I begin? I just got my first little puppy. He was a boxer and his name was Mack. I had been taking him since he was about 8 weeks. The staff was all fairly nice and my boy loved all the front desk staff and the one vet tech. My fiance and I decided to do the wellness program. It hardly saved us money. Every time I went in the found something wrong with him and if they didn't, they found a way to charge us for some test they had to run or charged me to show me how to put ear drops for his ear infection in. Total scam.
I feel Like the vets didn't really listen to my concerns. They would talk around what I was asking or find a way out of it, they recommended Trifexis to my boy and I voiced some concern. The vet assured me she had never heard of any problems and that he'd be perfectly fine. Every time we went in the vets were rough on him and wouldn't really let me close to him. It really freaked my pup out. My last visit I took Mack in and he was perfectly healthy, super excited to see everyone and even tried to cuddle a small child on the way in. I was concerned that he was peeing more frequently that normal.
Well they ran a few other tests on him and shoved at least 3 different things in his bum. I know that must be done for some things but they were really stressing him out and they knew that. They finished brought him a drink of water. He drank most of the bowl and was hesitant to leave my side, they said they had to run one more test on him for the uti and administered his rabies vaccine before taking him to the back. 10 minutes go by and I'm still sitting in the room without my boy. One vet comes in and asks why he's so stressed and exhausted and said they had to put him on oxygen. Next thing you know I'm in the back and he looks so miserable. Not at all the same dog who I'd just seen 10 minutes prior.
After a few more minutes they take him off and tell me I can take him home. I noticed he was breathing really hard and asked if that was normal and they said "yes" to take him home and let him relax. We leave I get him in my car and he starts throwing up blood in my front seat. I rush him back there not knowing what else to do and they did an xray. He somehow had miraculously had fluid on his lungs and started asking if he had got into rat poisoning! How did they not hear that fluid when they first checked him out or the 2 other times we went?
They waited an hour before letting us go to the emergency er even though time was of the essence. Then they kept saying nothing they did caused this, no one had accused them at this point so why did they sound so guilty? Then wanted to say they weren't going to charge for the xray like it was some big favor to us. We finally got let go but we had to put him down, he was too far gone. How does a puppy go in healthy and happy and leave on his death bed? I blame the doctors incompetence. Don't take your family there, they will jack up the price and not listen to your concerns.

We got into an argument with ** that ended throwing her out of the room.
A Veterinarian entered and apologized for ** laughing, saying she couldn't believe that she would ever act that way. Before she left the room the Veterinarian told us that she had already sent the quote to the receptionist, but when we asked, the receptionist ** said they had nothing and absolutely did nothing for about half an hour. We got tired of waiting and I decided to call to cancel the plan we had with them and not until then, did they give us the quote for the surgery.
In the end they never checked or said anything about the eye but gave us an ointment without instructions. It's really disappointing that when we get worried about our pets and take them to a clinic, that supposedly is there to help you, and end up only disrespecting and simply do nothing at all which is what the COMPLETE STAFF that was there today did.

My husband and I came to Banfield to purchase a wellness plan. We had to pay for the whole year since we were using CareCredit to pay for our bill (came to $311 and some change). On April 22nd we brought our 9-year-old cat in to have her teeth cleaned. They called me later that day and told me one of her teeth was diseased and recommend it be pulled so I gave them the okay to pull her tooth even though it was going to cost me an additional $152 and change. They called me and told me she was ready to be picked up so my husband got her on his way home from work. They went over her meds and how she should be acting etc. The next day my cat was biting me and growling at us after we gave her her pain medicine. I thought it was weird so I attempted to remove the bandage on her leg since she was chewing at it and found the catheter was still inside her leg!!!
I called the clinic and they were EXTREMELY RUDE. The lady said the doctors were "busy" but told me not to take it out myself because my cat "could bleed everywhere." The doctor acted like it's a normal thing to forget to take a catheter out and the practice manager refuses to refund me my wellness plan. He refunded me the cost of her tooth extraction and that's it. Why am I still responsible for paying the ENTIRE year for a wellness plan I'm NEVER going to use again? Then I found out they "preformed" a series of exams on my cat that I didn't authorize at all which is how they are justifying not giving me my refund. Great!!

My pet needed dental cleaning so bad. It cost so much so I kept putting off for 2 to 3 years. Estimate I got from vets ran from 500+ to 1100$. Banfield Pet care plan covered all that and free yearly exam and all vaccine!! Except heart worm meds and Tick medicine and minor dollars for non-covered items. So far I have not paid much. Incredible value. I drive to Banfield an hour away to get this service, because vets nears me cost so, so, so much. Very professional service at Vestal, NY. I am so grateful for plan that I pay 35.95 per month. I am so happy to have good care for my pet dog I live.

I have always used Badfield animal hospital for my cat Casey and really liked the Vet who treated her. About 6 weeks ago she needed dental cleaning. I agreed, I saw the plaque. After her 1st day post op she was having trouble breathing. I called and they told me to come in. When I got there I felt she was in a lot of distress and was told she needed to go to another animal hospital after taking a chest x-ray - it looked like aspiration pneumonia. I felt like I was pushed out of there and told to go to another hospital. I was confused. They did the dental work why couldn't they take care of the aspiration pneumonia since they advertise medically specialties. I took her to another hospital as advised and they agreed with aspiration pneumonia and kept her a few days and sent her home on antibiotics. It has been downhill since for casey.
In my heart I feel when they put her under was her airway managed correctly? The trach tube caused damage she could no longer purr or meow. For years I have been an advocate of badfield's and loved my vet. But I feel something went wrong and wasn't told everything. I had a vet come to house. She couldn't eat or swallow for days and lost a lot of weight since the procedure. Upon examining her mouth was ulcerated and her airway was probably damaged by trach tube. We felt at the time maybe steroids may help but the other animal hospital that I was sent to by banfield said there was more of a risk with steroids to many side effects and did not suggest giving them to her and dissed me back to banfield's. I had joined the health plan for her. She did have a heart murmur and they found a few other things prior to her cleaning of the teeth. It was discussed with the vet and asked if it was ok to go with it and she said yes they found a uti also.
I really feel something went wrong during her cleaning. Did the cuff or tube slip and caused the cleaning particles to go into her lungs. I had to put casey down yesterday. I am devastated!! No amount of money could bring her back but feel banfield should credit my account especially for the health plan I paid for up front on the day of her cleaning and the cost of sending me to another hospital. And help me with some of her end of life issues which I feel was caused by them. This may sound harsh and I may never know what really happened but hopefully they have a conscience and only they know what went wrong. Not only am I devastated but I have another cat that is also upset. She has laid on Casey's bed ever since she passed and keep looking for her.

I too worked at Banfield as a CSC. Not only are the CSC's not trained well, but they only have 1 working at a time with only a small overlap of 2 for a couple hours (which is not during their busy hours). Not only do I feel that Banfield does not give the best care to pets (has to send tests out to labs, is not a pharmacy, so doesn't carry many meds, their OWP plans are a total scam, etc.), but I also would never recommend working there. Employees put on fake smiles to clients, but talk about them behind their backs, as well as fellow employees. They also are snippy with each other and are constantly stressed out and take it out on others.

Do not trust Banfield Pet Hospital, Framingham, MA - After two years of paying for a monthly payment plan for two dogs, I called the vet saying that one of my dogs was limping. I thought it was either lyme disease or a broken claw. They told me he would have to be sedated to repair the claw. I took him to the vet and said I didn't know whether it was lyme or a broken claw. Without examining him, they immediately sedated him and then told me he didn't have a broken claw. I asked what it could be, and the vet suggested $400 Xrays or waiting a week to see if he got better. I asked what the problem could be. She suggested arthritis. I pointed out that he wouldn't suddenly begin limping because of arthritis and asked if it could be lyme. The doctor said we had a lyme test included in the payment plan so she would administer it. Afterwards, she said that the test she had given wouldn't really tell us if he actually had lyme, and we had to pay another $150 for a test to figure that out.
She prescribed doxycycline just to see what would happen - which she could have done in the beginning. When I got home, I realized that I had spent $400 and had no diagnosis - just a suggestion that we keep spending money to find out what was wrong. After two doses of doxycyline, my dog immediately recovered. I called the vet complaining that they had sedated him for $300 without even considering lyme, and that after it proved not to be a broken claw they hadn't even suggested lyme. They told me it was my fault because I had told them the claw was broken. When I eventually spoke with the head of staff she said it said in the records that they had done a lyme test and he had been given doxycyline, so there was no problem and refused to give me a credit for the sedation.
In my opinion, some of the people in this practice are incompetent and they close ranks if you complain. If I had followed their advice, my dog would be at home suffering from lyme waiting to see if he somehow got better. I also would have spent another $400 on unnecessary X-rays. I went to Banfield because I thought if I put my dogs on a payment plan I wouldn't worry about the money when I had to take them to the vet if they were sick. I should have known better. Don't go here. They can't diagnose something as simple as lyme disease in an area where it is extremely prevalent. They have no respect for clients, customer service or people's feelings - not to mention their budget.

I adopted a second dog and took him into my regular vet to get a check-up. I was immediately advised that I should pay for the wellness program and that it would pay for itself over the year. Their advice was believable, so of course I signed on the dotted line! First year he went in for teeth cleaning and they piggy-backed and sorted out his cherry eye. I was delighted that I didn't have to pay for the operation. However, since then he has always had problems with that eye; it's continually dry and crusty. I get appointments and each time I am told that it had nothing to do with the eye operation. My gut feeling is that one of the stitches that they leave behind the eye has somehow irritated the eye and poor little dog has got rid of one problem and has another.
Okay, recently. Without notification the monthly cost had gone up. Not much, but we, the clients should have been advised beforehand of this price increase. Having a total monthly income of $1,000 I decided to cancel the program. I contacted Banfield's corporate office and received an answer today that I would have to pay them around $416 for services rendered or continue paying for this year. I will be looking around for another vet to care for my dogs. Banfield, you've lost a good customer.

This is to make people aware of the Wellness Program at Banfield. The services included in their basic, optimum plans which covers office visits, dental care dep. on the plan you choose is nothing but a ripoff. I have bought the basic care wellness for my dog and cat and the next time you are there for services that is not included in the plan, the vet or associate will talk you into upgrading to save more money as they say. Let me tell you they will recoup the free office visit, dental care and other services by misdiagnosing or coming up with illnesses that your pet does not even have any symptoms of. And if just one of the symptoms exist, they will test for it like testing for pancreatitis.
This test is not very reliable and instead of checking for a more likely disease, they will start with testing which would end up costing you more and more money because your pet does not get well and you will keep coming back. Better get to a different pet hospital and to know a more competent vet. I have spent thousands of dollars between the dog and the cat, just to get an antibiotic for an eye infection got the dog, the vet at Banfield prescribes an eye wash.
Needless to say, an eye wash does not treat greenish pus in the eye, so you have to there a few days. Then they tell you, in order to get prescribed antibiotic, they need to test if there is a tear in the eye, and she continues to say that test cost $40 which probably took them 2 seconds to do. When I took enough courage to just go to another vet outside of Banfield, my costs had gone down tremendously. I have spent needless amounts of money at Banfield and even if your pet had died from their care. They will hound you to pay for the rest of the duration of your contract. That is why I call this company nothing but a ripoff of good money that people earn every day trying to make a living.

My husband and I recently adopted a 2 month old German shepherd puppy from a rescue group in Navarre, Fl. A few days prior to picking him up he had been neutered so of course we were instructed to make sure he doesn't run, jump, lick the incision, etc so the surgical adhesive they had used to close his incision did not open, which if you have ever had a puppy you will know is extremely hard, especially jumping and playing. Around 5pm I noticed his incision site was bleeding, so my husband and I quickly scooped him up and took him to the only vet clinic that is open in the area on a Saturday which is the Banfield animal hospital inside Petsmart in Destin, Fl.
We walked in with all of his vaccination papers, proof of surgery, all of his records we thought we would need if it were something serious. The lady at the front desk of the Banfield hospital at the Destin Petsmart was very kind and understanding. I simply asked her if she could have someone look at it to see if it were something major and then if need be we would check in, make an appointment, whatever we needed to do to get our puppy's incision fixed. She went to the back and grabbed the vet, who after briefly looking at the incision told me she thought it needed some more adhesive. The vet then proceeded to ask me where he had gotten his surgery performed at. When I told her that he had got it done at the Emerald Coast Animal hospital, she rudely and also incorrectly told me that they were open and I could take him there to get him fixed up and that she was refusing to work on him because he wasn't one of her patients.
I understand a vet being busy and already having their hands full with clients for the day but it wouldn't have been hard at all to have us set up an appointment for the following day and gain another client. My husband is currently stationed in Jacksonville at the naval base so right now we aren't local to the Destin/Fort Walton Beach area. We obviously have to change vets anyway and we were thinking about switching to Banfield after hearing some good reviews from a coworker of mine who had an emergency with her cat but honestly after the way the vet at the Destin location treated my husband and I today, we are definitely going to reconsider.

I had a friend recommend Banfield as she takes her dog there. We took our cat there and for all the surgeries and shots for the first year the payment plans were nice. But then we brought our puppy in and it was about twice the cost each month for her. Then she got fixed. I have never seen such a shotty, jacked up incision in my life. It left a huge, ugly scar on her stomach. Then we took advantage of the free visits. We decided to take out pets in when even the smallest thing happened. I'd tell them the symptoms and what I think it is then they'd do minimum to check them out only to say that I was right. And then they'd give us an unnecessary prescription for expensive medication. So after all the terrible treatment we decided to cancel our wellness plan.
Now let's fast forward 7 months later. I get a debt collections paper saying I owe $500 to them. WHAT?! turns out you're supposed to call Banfield to cancel a plan. The VT did not tell me that! Also due to the home depot scare we got a new card and therefore didn't have any payments taken out. We thought we cancelled it so we didn't think it mattered. We never got any calls, any mail, nothing about us owing anything and then suddenly we owe this much?! Uncalled for. We are never going to Banfield ever again!

It is now April of 2015, when reviewing my financials for tax purposes I noticed that since October they have continued to charge me the $100/mo.
When I called to understand why this was taking place and if I could get a refund from October they said they would be able to cancel the services at no charge. I asked about the $700 extra dollars and they said they do not do refunds. These plans are established as discounted pre-paid program. When I came to pick her up, they would not even bring her out to me, but rather told me to come back and get my dog. When I go to the back, they have her scrunched up in a small crate and she is laying in her urine. Needless to say, I was devastated. I would not have had a problem if they had just told me they couldn't handle her and I would have picked her up and taken her to someone who cared enough to make her comfortable. The customer service is horrible and they are so overpriced, it ridiculous. I took Laila to another vet, explained her apprehension to the vet. I have been a customer of the Rockaway NJ Petsmart Banfield hospital for almost 2 years and have always been somewhat happy with the care and service provided, all up until we saw Dr ** at the Rockaway NJ office. My dog has been unsuccessfully treated for his skin conditions for over 2 years. No doctor has been able find the root cause of this skin issues so we have been on trial and error to treat him for mange, food allergies, environmental allergies, parasites so he looks pretty bad. Then finally Dr ** at that office started him on low thyroid treatment and my dog began showing some improvement for the first time in 2 years and finally he stopped scratching his head to bleed; he has been on it for 3 months and is the only medication that had ever shown signs of improving my dog's condition.
Then, when it was time to have his blood rechecked I took my dog back to the Rockaway Petsmart vet office, a Dr. ** took my dog in the back and 20 minutes or so later came back very agitated with this $1,400 long list of treatment saying "he has a bad case of food allergies and needs to start treatment right away" to what I said: "no, you need to stop and listen to me". But when I tried to explain that my dog had already been unsuccessfully treated for allergies, parasites, sarcoptic mange IN THIS SAME OFFICE and a previous clinic without success and that the only treatment that seemed to help my dog so far had been the low thyroid medication, not only she loud her voice, kept cutting me off in such disrespectful manner not stopping for a second to listen.
This younger vet (not sure if she is even a licensed vet but will investigate) was very loud and confrontational. I asked if she could at least continue my dog's hypothyroid medication because my dog had been finally showing improvement for the first time. She denied any medication and simply said: "I'm done listening to you" in a very loud tone. My dog went back to scratching his neck to bleed which he had stop after 3 months of low thyroid pills treatment.
Regardless of her medical opinion, respect and consideration needs to come before anything a medical professional needs to listen when someone wants to explain the dog's medical history and treatment received and if previous treatments has proven ineffective. Why go back and extend a pet's suffering and not put him back on the treatment that is working, or instead order other tests that can provide a diagnostic? I find no reason for a vet to be so unprofessional and to treat a customer so disrespectfully as she did. I was in disbelief that this vet at Banfield treated a customer with such lack of respect and consideration, but I kept calm and professional (everyone else vet and staff are super friendly and go above and beyond). Honestly I never expected this from someone at this office.
Finally I went to another Vet this week. After a couple of tests I finally had a diagnostic: demodex mange and hypothyroidism, confirmed with blood work and under microscope! Why weren't these tests performed before? By the way, all tests and treatment was under 400 dollars! I will never go back to Banfield. I will make sure other friends and family do the same but if you are planning on bringing your pet here, BE CAREFUL WHICH VET YOU CHOOSE TO SEE.

I came to the appointment, they were pushing me to buy the puppy package which my dog didn't need because he already had all his puppy shot series and that's all they cared about to push on me. The reason I brought my dog in was because he had an ear infection. The vet tech was lousy and I knew more stating it could be food allergies, mites or because of water. She said food allergies doesn't happen to dogs under two years of age...really? I don't believe it. And when the Vet came in she took a swab from the ear and said that it would cost me $85 to have them send it to a lab.

And they brought her out saying all they could do was give my dog her shots. They could not draw her blood nor check her stool. Seriously, they had even put a muzzle on her. My impression is that these 2 girls don't know the first thing about dealing with a large breed such as a Rottie. You need to be sure of yourself to take control of that type of dog. I plan to switch vets as soon as my plan runs out. I have concluded, I and my dog need to be using a big assertive male adult vet, not a fussy little girl vet. While we weren't thrilled with them, we kept them knowing that our dogs would be insured if they needed something. Recently, we were informed that we had an appt. to have our dogs teeth cleaned. The appt. was scheduled through the corporate office. After rescheduling my day to accommodate the appt., the office stated that I did not have an appt. After a few years, he began to have different problems with his health and as time went by, he became more ill even though we had taken him in every six months for liver, blood, kidney and other tests that are part of the plan. As he slowly worsened, Banfield came up with more and more medical reasons for his problems with one medication and test after another.
Finally, at age 10, eight years later, we took him to another vet and they did an ultrasound. His liver was full of cancer. Banfield never found it even though his liver was supposed to be one of the tests they performed every six months. How can Banfield test for liver problems every six months and not find that he had cancer of the liver? It is inexcusable to suffer such a terminal illness and not have the proper medical care that we trusted Banfield for. We had him put to sleep on his 10th birthday. That was a year and a half ago. We just adopted a little girl from the Sun City shelter and I told them of our experience with Banfield Pet Hospital. I called back around 4 talked with the tech taking care of Mr white. She told me that he was having discharge and asked if he has had this in the past. She inquired about performing a dye test on his eyes. He is on a wellness plan and this was not covered under the plan so it would be extra. I told her I thought it was a characteristic of the breed and he had some discharge ever since I had him. She sounded relieved and told me I could come and pick him up. When I brought him home I noticed his eyes were extremely swollen red and he could hardly open them. I thought it could be because of the anesthesia and figured I would keep on eye on him.
The next morning they were even worse. This is not how I left him. I called Banfield and spoke with the same tech who called herself Mr white's nurse. Which I thought was strange but was not the issue. I told her what was going on. I asked her if he was put in with another animal. I also asked if he was left in a crate to scratch his eyes after the surgery because I noticed scratch marks on him. They were very small and in strange places almost looked like razor blade scrapes under his ears and on top of one of his eyes. She told me no. I asked if it could be the anesthesia that could cause this. She told me no. She said that she noticed this when I dropped him off. She said maybe it happened in the crate I brought him in. I said no I had him in my lap on the way and he was only in there for a short minute.
Oh she said. If they noticed it when I dropped him why would they continue with the surgery and call in the middle of the day. I don t buy it. I think whatever happened happened in their care. I cancelled charges and will not use them again. I just hope he does not end up damaged or even blind. If I take him to another vet I may not have the funds to undo what I believe they have done. I brought my Hercules to Banfield even though I was told how no good they are, but I didn't know where else to bring him. I've been with Banfield about 3-5 years, I auto pay monthly - never late, renew my plan only to find out by one of their workers stated, once the first visit is done, my Hercules has had his main visit, they just collect funds by stretching out your payments.
My Hercules develop a bad smell after over two years at Banfield. No dr could cure his illness, one of the dr stated, "omg whoever diagnosed him wrong, he's not a mammal dolphin. he's a Shih Tzu dog." The dr that diagnosed him as a dolphin said to me rudely he will die, this disease comes from his blood into his brain. I was devastated, I went for a second opinion at Banfield only to be told that dr was wrongly diagnosis and treatment was wrong.
I know what I'm doing, they bad mouth each other. I couldn't take it, I was told the balance would be removed since wrong diagnosis. I went to ACT coalition on dr **, saw Hercules' problem and smell same. The meds given, took care of him. In one hour, my baby Hercules was soooo lethargic, then one dr who help him it showed Hercules happier, running looking healthy. I can't believe that Banfield was practically ending my dog's life, he suffered. I bought so many meds from them and ear cleaners, change dog food, finally I left and he goes to act for health, and dog gone holistic for food. Never again to Banfield. Now I'm waiting for investigation of my bill. They tarnish my credit so I have proof of the diagnosis, I am fighting for my Hercules and my credit. Mind you I've paid a lot, and I'm waiting for $320.00 to be removed from my credit as settled. It's the principle and the truth about my Hercules, thanks.

I have experienced no hidden cost or fees after signing up for a wellness plan. I have an Australian cattle dog and the staff love him. They are always pleasant and respectable. The vets have always given me various options for his injuries which happen being such a high strung dog. They never pushed me to have procedures done he didn't need and always tried the cheaper method first for my dog's needs. I don't know what is going on at other locations, but the Lawnside location is fantastic. Only downside recently is a vet had gotten married and moved away. Now another has been promoted and is being moved to another location so I have to get reacquainted with new vets. My dog is my best friend and child and I am not good with change. I like him to see the same person all the time.
Recently he was sick for 4 days, all appointments were booked due to my wellness plan. I had the option of a drop off and they would see him between appointments. If it wasn't for the plan it would have been more costly for an emergency visit. The staff were very sympathetic to my obsessive calling about my dog and were always checking to make sure I was alright as well. I was very upset. I had thought my dog had ate something toxic, turns out it was just a stomach bug.
I can not vouch for other locations but for the Lawnside site it's the best care I could give my companion. He is always excited to go to the vet. I have never had a problem the new vet Dr. **. Spent time to show me my dog's xrays and explain everything in detail. I have been around dogs before but this is my first dog. I've had him since 8 weeks old and if it wasn't for the help of Banfield employees and their recommendations it would have been a lot harder raising him. I would recommend the Lawnside NJ location 100 percent.

I have both my dogs enrolled in Banfield's Wellness Plans, which seem to be their main business, not pet care. I recommended them to family members because it seemed like a way to save on costs. I rarely have to call for an appointment outside of their wellness check-ups. Lately family members have complained that they will not see pets when they call with what they think is an emergency. Today I called to report that one of my dogs was throwing up, lethargic, not eating, even throwing up water, and was not at all like herself. This was about 10 AM. I was told they had no "walk-in slots" open today but they could see her tomorrow.
I took her to an emergency center, where she has been admitted with pancreatitis, diabetes and dehydration. When I checked the Banfield Website, they had us scheduled for tomorrow, with the symptoms listed, so it is not as though they did not know the gravity of the situation. I am canceling my plan for both dogs and getting a vet who is more interested in care and less in a zillion wellness tests that get ignored or misinterpreted. When I checked her last lab, my dog's glucose was high but this was not addressed or retested.

Be careful when you sign up with the dog care program. One of our dogs died and we wanted to take him off of the monthly payment program and banfield said too bad it’s a yearly contract and I responded, "Does that mean I'm paying you for a dog that has passed away and can't use your program any longer?" And they responded "yes you must pay for the pet until the contract is over." What a crock of baloney. The dog is dead!

My little baby American Bulldog was only 2 months old when my wife accidently broke her right rear leg. She took her in to Banfield to get it bandaged up. We'll the doctor who saw her bandaged her up too tight. We took her in because she didn't seem to be stepping right just for a follow up. They said she was okay and she will be fine when we take it off. 8 days later her leg was leaking fluid from it. We didn't have much money because I was in between jobs. And I had about $200 in my checking account and only $25 in my savings at the time. But we took her to the local animal emergency room. They took it off of her and said that the doctor who put it on didn't wrap it correctly and she would have to lose her leg.
We took her in and they did the surgery leaving me with negative funds in my account. They gave my wife a phone number to get our money back and they just apologized one time. It took ME to go up there pissed off and looking like I was going to kill the doctor for them to give my wife the money back and we received a check in the mail for the rest of the amount that was spent due to their negligence. I would NEVER recommend Banfield ANYWHERE because they seem to not like Bully breeds. I am in Arlington TX. But DO NOT go to Banfield EVER!

I transferred my pets to Banfield 6 months ago at which time they all had a full workup and exam...1 appointment for the 2 dogs and they charged 2 full exam fees of $45 each... Today I bring them in for their heartworm preventative and they won't do it without charging me a total of $200 for the injection AND more exam fees. I love the vet that I see but I don't have money to be flushing down the toilet so they can pet my dog and tell me they look great. Looks like the grass was greener at my old vets. Back to a non-franchised, privately owned practice that cares more about the pets than the money.

I took my cat in to be examined as she had gone missing for a week and came back home very skinny and refusing to eat anything. The Dr. came in, briefly looked into her mouth and told me my cat had dental decay and needed to have teeth extracted. They tried to take a fecal sample to check for parasites and they weren't able to get any and my cat kept screaming and crying, so they gave up. They left the room for about 5 minutes and returned with a written estimate for "testing" in the amount of just shy of $1,000. They wouldn't be able to tell me anything without completing the testing.
Not being able to afford the testing, as I am currently unemployed, they then started the kick of trying to sell me pet health insurance for approximately $300/year and "If I signed up today", my visit cost would only be $75 instead of close to $100 and a portion of my cost would go towards my first month fees for the pet insurance and they would charge me automatically every month for the remaining amount... REALLY?!!! I refused the pet insurance. I paid the exorbitant amount for the office visit and left there just as educated about my pet as I was before I got there and got robbed of $100. I knew NOTHING. I went home, called a different vet, took my cat in, was told she was jaundiced, having liver issues.
The jaundice was clearly visible if you know what you're looking for. The whites of her eyes were yellow, her skin was yellow in her ears, her lips and gums were yellow... why didn't Banfield tell me this??? INCOMPETENT, that's why. To make a long story shorter, I took her to this vet, they charged me $350 for testing, her bilirubin count was at 8.2. They cared for her, took her home with them at night, gave her antibiotic medications, IV fluids and at my request gave her liquid milk thistle which is good for treating cats with liver disease and kept her at their facility for almost a MONTH and didn't charge me a dime more than the initial $350.
My cat's bilirubin levels are now at 1.6 and improving daily. She's eating again and no longer lethargic, no longer refusing to eat. The people at the new vet I found are absolutely amazing, I will be taking all my animals there. Word of warning; Banfield pet hospital is only there for the dollar, they don't care about your pet. Bottom line with them is to rob you of as much money as possible in the shortest amount of time and move on to the next victim. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TAKING YOUR PET HERE.

I am so extremely unhappy and disappointed and feel I have wasted over 500 dollars on services I would have happily taken somewhere else. We use the Banfield in Concord NC. Only one of my pets is on Banfield. I got Banfield when Tiger was a puppy thinking I could save a little money by using the plan. I was terribly wrong!!! I felt like every time I was at the vet I was constantly pressured into a constant upsell of products. They jerked my little Tiger around like a rag doll! We also had two emergencies with Tiger in our time with Banfield. She had an allergic reaction the first time and her throat was closing. One of the reasons I chose Banfield in NC was the convenient hours. Little did I know the hours actually meant nothing.
I rushed to Banfield with Tiger's entire face swollen like a balloon to find it was 10 am. They opened at 7 am but no vet was there to treat or help my animal! Um are you not a vet office? Why be open if there is no vet to see my dying dog... Also the front end staff are just paper pushers and could not offer any knowledge or insight to my Emergency. Shouldn't the staff all be vet techs AT MINIMUM? Not someone who has no knowledge of animals at all... Also every time we would visit the vet they shot her up with her shots and walked out. There was absolutely no care, just another number to them. Also when trying to get out of my contract I was told that that was fine they would cancel my contract in short.
After receiving multiple calls in February they had continued to charge my card after I had "cancelled" my plan so therefore I was paying for three months not knowing. We actually used my other dog's vet the entire time we were on Banfield plan! I am extraordinarily disappointed to say the LEAST. I will forever tell everyone of my experiences with this "vet". No care or compassion and helping in emergencies... Forget about it. You would be better off trying to help the dog yourself. What a terrible service!!! I will forever stick with my other vet. I'm extremely regretful. I thought this would be better. I was so extraordinarily mistaken...

I will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER take any animal back to Banfield for any type of care nor will I EVER recommend them to ANYONE! They did repeat bloodwork on Shady three times without ever giving me a real explanation on why only that his red blood cell count was low. Winders Corner (our new vet) explained to me that yes his red blood cell count is low but not at an alarming count and given Shady's symptoms, he believes our dog may have a thyroid issue which was never checked in any of the three times Banfield did bloodwork. Therefore we drew bloodwork today and will hopefully have these thyroid results back tomorrow.
Then there's his hips and knees, he is moving quite slow. He had an injury to a leg quite some time ago, took him to Banfield and they brushed it off as a sprain!! Well we did X-rays today at Winders Corner, hips are GREAT BUUUUTTT that supposed sprain, nope not even close!!! He tore is ACL (human terms don't remember doggie term) but since it was so long ago surgery, which would've been recommended at the time of the injury, is not recommended due to this now being considered a chronic pain. So the outcome for this: my poor puppy has to be on pain meds the rest of his life at minimum twice a day. :( And he will possibly be on thyroid meds the rest of his life as well, but we'll deal with that when the bloodwork comes back. I called Banfield when I found my 12 year old Husky mix laying in the garden. She could not get up. It was 8:00 AM, before the vets begin their day. I know this, because my dogs have been in the plan for over 12 years. The person who answered the phone told me they didn't have a vet available for an emergency, and I should take her to an emergency clinic.
Astounded, I explained I was a Banfield customer and I needed to bring her in. She didn't necessarily need the vet but someone should look at her. She maybe needed IV fluids. Woman continued her stance. I asked to speak to a nurse, who told me I must not have explained properly and of course I could bring her in. She died yesterday. All I can think about is how badly the company treated me after I paid thousands of dollars over her twelve years, plus the other dogs I have. I simply don't have dogs that are that sick, and they are ALWAYS UPSELLING. I had an I home service come to help Iris move on. I am removing my other dogs from the Banfield Wellness Program.

So I take my healthy bulldog to Banfield for his neutering surgery. Then the Dr calls me asking if it was okay to pay extra fees for extra anesthesia. I was okay with it as long as he comes out of the surgery still healthy and well (I didn't know that so much anesthesia is dangerous for bulldogs; the Dr should have known). 20 minutes later I receive a call from her telling me that she has bad news and that he couldn't breathe during the surgery and so he passed away! I was in shock and couldn't believe that because it's supposed to be a really easy surgery! (I've never heard a dog that has passed away from a neutering surgery.) So I googled about anesthesia and found out that it is very dangerous for bulldogs to use extra anesthesia.
The Dr in Banfield should have known this information since bulldogs are very sensitive dogs! I'm really mad at them and I would want to sue them for that! I took him to them healthy and happy and there was nothing wrong with him! They overdosed him with anesthesia! I'm really angry and sad, I miss my bulldog sooo much! RIP Nacho xoxo

If you care about the well-being of your pet, I recommend ANYWHERE BUT BANFIELD. I had the WORST experience at the Overland Park Banfield. I feel this company only cares about profit, not about customer relations or the quality of services for the pets they care for. I was charged for appointments I never got to go to because of personal issues. I explained how me and my partner lost all of our credit cards and personal items in a fire, and there was no understanding. So they took the $700 from the wellness plan, for appointments we NEVER got to go to, to a debt agency.
We are two 21 year olds trying to get by, some days we don't even have money for food. So we asked since we are going to pay it anyway if we could reschedule the appointments we missed for our pets. THE ANSWER WAS NO. I have never had a worse experience with veterinary professionals. DO NOT GO TO BANFIELD. This is the first time I have ever even written a bad review. Mar 3, 2015. I would never again take my dog to Banfield located in Seattle, WA, 13000 Aurora Ave N.
(1) Dog handling: the assistant who was helping the vet with the examination of my dog was pulling on his harness too hard to keep him still. He's only 15#, a Bichon-Poo. I was almost in tears. I intervened; the vet did not even after the assistant continued to handle him this way. However, I have had a very good experience there in this regard with a different assistant and vet.
(2) General Vet service: based on my experience in the past there I am now suspicious of the quality of health care they provide my dog. I'm actually afraid to take him there again. (I have a Wellness Plan! ) Yikes!
(3) Customer service: Mediocre to appalling. Each time I take my dog in, the front desk employees engage him excessively. It's clear that he's hyper-excited, they see that I'm trying to calm him down, they know that they're going to weigh him while he stays still on the scale (right!?), and they're well aware that the vet is going to need him to remain still in the exam room. Me: almost in tears each time.
(4) Out of desperation (new to the area) I signed up for the Wellness Plan when my dog had an ear infection. Costs for medication outrageous even with the plan!
(5) The wellness plan includes free professional teeth cleaning requiring anesthesia. Each time I take my dog there (about 5 times in the past 9 months), they push professional teeth cleaning. I know my dog's dental health is extremely important to his overall health. However, I'm not going to allow Banfield to do it. I will get him a competent vet to check his teeth perhaps with a radiograph before surgery could be recommended. One more thing I just noticed on my Feb 26, 2015 invoice: it states that my dog has been prescribed a prescription medicine that the vet did not mention to me during the visit!!
(6) Upshot: Since I have a few months on the Wellness contract I will take my little guy in for routine visits but I must be with him at all times.
My dog is 6 years old. His previous vets were excellent, considerate, compassionate, and informative. They tried to keep my costs down. I trusted them to neuter and perform surgery for an other issue. Medicine was much less than what Banfield charges. If you want to check out my dog's prior vets, here are their names: Ellicott Small Animal Hospital, Buffalo, NY; Georgetown Animal Hospital, Williamsville, NY. Both in western New York. 2009-2014 was he a patient. Best of luck to all!

Finally after I asked to know what was wrong with my cat she briefly examined him not paying much attention, not checking his fever or listening his lungs which I thought was very strange. When I denied to enroll in to their plans they tried to charge me $180 for clavamox (which I got for $36 from another local vet after I left them) plus exam fee... I left without picking the medicine and took my cat to a regular vet where they did full blood work, detailed exam and didn't cost arm and leg... Be very cautious!!!!

I am a wellness plan member for the Banfiled Pet Hospital in Orlando, FL Waterford and I would NEVER recommend this animal clinic to anyone. I have had many poor experiences since day one, however my latest situation is by far the worst. My kitten, who is 8 months old, was neutered from Banfield about 2 months ago. Proper protocol requires the vets to look over the animals when they are under. Unfortunately, they found gingivitis in my little kitty. Even more unfortunately, they "forgot to tell me". Fast forward to this past week, my kitten has been under the weather - coughing, sneezing, sleeping more than usual, and wheezing. Being a concerned mommy, I took him into Banfield right away.
Once I got there, the nurse asked me what I've been doing to help his gingivitis. Shocked, I asked what gingivitis?! She told me they found gingivitis on him 2 months ago when he was neutered. When I told her I was never informed, she brushed it off. Now my kitten's gum disease has spread to his lungs and he's sick. He's on antibiotics but I don't even trust they are the right type! Sadly, this could all have been avoided if crucial information about my pets well-being wasn't withheld. Banfield is negligent, unprofessional, and rushed. The people at the front desk are rude and inconsiderate. The vet's competence is questionable. After two weeks I returned to their office and he had a small pimple or growth on the inside of his left ear. They advised me to continue to apply the Remicin to the affected area. A week later it was a larger growth in the form of a pink fleshy bump. At this time they advised me over the phone to apply Neosporin ointment and I did.
Then a few days later it was still not gone so I returned to their office when they told me it could possibly be a cancerous growth but that they never told me over the phone to apply the Neosporin ointment and that I should continue to apply the Remicin. They also said that he may shake his ear and it may cause further irritation and they should possibly tape his ear up over his head. Then they said to give him Benadryl to keep them from itching all the while applying the same ointment.
I got the feeling that something was wrong and I have not returned to their office. I did some research and found that the medicine was not to be applied for more than seven days. As I said, they did decline that they told me over the phone or to use the Neosporin ointment. It's just seemingly bad practice and I got a strange feeling about the whole thing. I had to beg them to release him to me! Even other patrons in the store could not believe how my dog was barking and that they would not give him back to me. It was abusive not only to my poor dog to me. I brought him to another hospital who agreed to knock the cyst off his head, took work and he was probably hanging his head repeatedly to get out and then could not be caused by banging his head once. I have had service with Banfield for 5 years. My sister referred me as she had been taking her cats there since 2004. I currently have 2 dogs and 1 cat on the plan. My costs are under $100/month (that's under $1200/year) for ALL pets. I've never been asked for a copay on visits. Elective immunizations have a nominal charge. I'm taking my puppy to get neutered this week and it is going to cost me under $100 for meds and micro chipping. My other dog and cat will have dental cleanings the same day which will be no cost as they are included.
If you compare what you pay here in total to what you would be paying elsewhere, you save so much money!! Aside from the peace of mind that I have with Banfield, knowing that the staff (mostly, except for a few front desk issues) LOVE pets and truly care for their health. Every vet and vet tech I have seen has been polite, educational and fussed over my pets. I will never go anywhere else.
As for the comments I've read on here about cancellation fees, I've never encountered this. My coverage lapsed on my cat because of a change to my debit card, and I was unaware. When I took her in for her next visit, the front desk person made a phone call and said it was no problem. They signed me right back up and I didn't have to pay any fees.
I wanted to give a positive review because I want to share my experience, and I feel that if Banfield was as bad as everyone else says, I certainly would have encountered that in the past 5 years, or my sister would have seen that in her past 11 years. Nothing but good things to say about them; they treat my angels like their own and provide excellent care.

This is a total rip off. Took my pet in for yearly examination and was told about the plan and how wonderful it was. I paid 160.00 for my original visit and had one additional visit for a booster. When I tried to cancel the plan as we were not happy with the way the dog was treated on the second visit, by the way cost an additional 125.00. They muzzled her after she snapped at them because they tried to lift her and almost dropped her on the floor. They were not loving and showing any emotion to her. They gave her a shot and out we went. We paid 300.00 toward the plan in monthly installments.
At the end of this year we called and cancelled the plan and started using another vet. We received a letter because we still owed 79.00. They told us that the two visits all together were 900.00. Even when we paid 160 and 125 they subtract that from the 900.00 leaving me a balance. When we tried to cancel they would not because we received more services than we paid for. We must pay the balance of 79.00. I do not know where she received 900.00 of veterinary care, ridiculous. We will end up paying over 600.00 for two routine check ups. They will not let you out of the plan. My new vet charges 75.00 a visit, thank goodness.

I wish I had checked this site out before I signed up for the "plan!" Like so many others, I too experienced no savings other than not being charged for the "visit." Everything else is minimally discounted for having this "plan." And it seemed like I NEVER got out of there for less than $300.00 as they always came up with this "preventative" procedure or a test to perform all with the caveat "'it's not 100% covered' under your 'plan'." Evidently, Banfield knows what a good thing they have going, because when you finally come to your senses of what a racket it is, they inform you that they are entitled to collect for the "services" you were given a discount on. Lesson learned by me and one that I hope I can prevent others from making! In my opinion, DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THIS "WELLNESS PLAN."
