DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE. If I could rate Banfield at Middletown zero stars, I would. Banfield is terrible. Our dog had been sick with a cough since earlier this year and we were told it was just Kennel Cough and that it will go away. A month later, we took him in for an exam on February 24, 2022 to which the doctor says "oh it's only a heart murmur, just take him to a cardiologist."

On April 2, 2022, my dog died suddenly. After receiving the autopsy, we were told my dog had severe cancer in his spine. How did Banfield not discover this through the blood testing they allegedly did during the appointment on February 24th. My dog had been going to Banfield since 2015 and religiously went to all his appointments and received all his vaccines. Banfield is run by the most incompetent group of veterinarians I have ever met. They should have discovered this through their routine check up and the fact they did not concerns me for future pets that plan on going here. The veterinarians are negligent in the way they treat for animals and do not care about a single one.

Nothing against the doctors. Banfield has made my life easier since I have moved so much and they are everywhere. But I’m so over them. Definitely a scam. My plan renewed in November. My dog was diagnosed with cancer. She went to the vet once in November and they told us. Paid thousands of dollars of course. Always. She passed four months later and they won’t let me cancel her plan. I mean come on. Tens and thousands of dollars I’ve spent on my three dogs with them.

I really wish there was a negative value rating, 1 star is too much for Banfield, or I mean Scamfield. Banfield veterinarian services is horrible, I have always taken my pets to "real" veterinarian and not scamsters who use a store front like Banfield. My dog is a very friendly Collie Golden mix, yet the tech said she was very aggressive and bit at the cage. What pissed me off was that the tech said I have a terribly bad dog, he said this in the presence of my 8 and 16 year old daughters, and this just destroyed them both. I was so pissed that I had to control my temptation to escalate. During one visit, likely due to her being "caged" while we waited, she came back home and was scratching, turned out she picked up mange. Likewise Scamfield said my dog had really heavy tooth build up.

Anyway, after all of this I went to a real vet, and my dog is happier, my kids are happier, my dog is not caged while I wait, I wait with my dog, my dog does not get mange at this vet, and oh, imagine this, the real vet says her teeth are perfectly fine. Oh, better yet, at the real vet, my dog is always seen and treated by a real doctor, and not technicians. At Scamfield I never saw nor met a doctor, always talked to technicians. For those who don't know, do your research on Scamfield, they are owned by Mars, yes Mars the candy company, how possibly can a candy company have any inkling of how to run a veterinarian service? You get what you pay for, and I'm done with Scamfield, no longer buy Mars products, and because of the PetSmart affiliation, I no longer shop at PetSmart.

If you join their wellness program, be prepared for them to try and trick you into renewing it. Today I brought my dog for a rabies vaccine that was going to expire in about a week and she needs it for boarding. I had cancelled my wellness plan a few months back to end on the 3oth of this month, so it didn't auto-renew without knowing what was being paid for. My dog would need further vaccinations and wellness check at the end of April, but we needed the rabies now, so I brought her in. I have been given various info on how close or how far these vaccines can be through the year I have been with them and amazingly today they could be a month early for the sake "getting it done all at once" and updating my plan to cover it today, instead of coming back in April (after the plan would need to be renewed).

I was called by Amber about an hour after I dropped my dog off and offered this. When I was speaking with her what she was telling me price-wise didn't make sense. I had a puppy plan at 47 a month plus interceptor heartworm which gave me a monthly fee of 56 bucks. Now she was telling me that the new fee since I was taking an improved heartworm med would be about the same at 58 bucks. I questioned this because I saw the plan was $33 a month and wondered where this high charge was coming from.

Well, it turns out the new hw med was not "just a few dollars more" it considerably more and the price may not have included a spay but her deceptive wording meant a few dollars more than I had been paying last year which included a spay. I was reluctant but agreed (I should not have but I felt put on the spot). I called my hubs, and he said a few things about an overlap and prorate but wanted to look at it to understand why the cost was not the $33.

Well Amber, when asked told me the difference was because I was no longer on the puppy plan but on an adult dog plan. More deceptive wording. I called back within a few minutes of having gotten off with her to tell her don't do anything, my hubs wanted to look at it first. Well Thank you Amber for jumping down my throat with "Well then you have no reason for your dog to be here!!" after I asked her to not renew the plan yet. YES, I did! The rabies vaccine I brought her in for.

Needless to say, I didn't respond calmly and told her point-blank to just give my dog the treatment I brought her there for. Later when I went back, she acted as though I had done something to her and blamed me for her having to call corporate to change the plan. It's amazing they could update that plan so fast but everything else all day. Regardless of an inconvenience, I had been polite to her until she jumped down my throat. All she had to say was ok and let me know she would cancel it. When she gave me my papers she had connected it to the comments about corporate and I asked her what those things had to do with each other. Again a nasty attitude and acted as though she didn't have to answer my questions, which I had to ask more than once how long it would take to get updated papers while she and her co-worker simultaneously rolled their eyes.

Amber was clearly mad because she uses deceptive practices to get people to stay on the plan and I didn't allow it. Her aggression towards me is the reason I now won't go back there. I'm the customer I deserve to be respected. I was shocked when she remarked so angrily that my dog didn't need to be there. Her behavior was inappropriate, even if I had annoyed her by changing my mind. I had every right to call back and change my mind though, especially since they try to coerce people over the phone and manipulate their customers.

WORST part, they gave my dog all the treatments I declined instead of just giving her the rabies shot. They do whatever they want. I was very clear about only giving her the rabies shot. The vet told me "she was under the impression" I had wanted those services, despite my having been very clear with Amber what I wanted done and specifically said only the rabies shot. However, when I spoke to the vet on the phone (she called me) she said she hadn't done anything yet and was going to give her the rabies shot before I picked her up.

Then when I got there, they had done all the services anyway including the vaccines my dog didn't need until the end of April. I was compensated for those services I had declined, I'm just not sure what the reason was. I don't know if the vet knew how her service agent spoke to me and was trying to be nice or if they wanted to cover up their mistake. Either way, they never gave me clear information on vaccinations and just do them whenever it suits their convenience. Don't use these people. They only want to trap you in a contract and dont respect or listen to their customers. They certainly lost a customer today.

What if a random company you never did business with turned you over to a collection agency and said you owed them about $600? Wouldn’t you call that fraud? Maybe you might say it was a case of identity theft, but get this, when I talked to Banfield they told me the only thing that matched between me and the person they provided service to was the first and last name! The phone didn’t match, the address didn’t match. So how does Banfield end up turning me over to the collection agency? Obviously they must have searched public records for someone else with the same name and that turned out to be me. Actually, I guess that does sound like identity theft doesn’t it? What kind of business does this? Let me be very clear. I did not use Banfield and never have. I was told the name of the pet that was treated and it 100% was not my pet. I was told the date of the treatment. None of our pets were treated on that date.

After trying to resolve the issue through BBB, Banfield did finally reveal that the person who they provided service to also had the same date of birth as me. Does that make it reasonable to turn me over to the collection agency? NO WAY! They are a national company. The idea that there couldn’t possibly be two or more people born on the same day with the same name out of the whole country is ridiculous. It gets even better, they then went on to say that because I claim NOT to be the person on the account they could not share any additional information with me, but they still would not contact the collection agency to tell them to desist. Really? That’s like saying, “Well… we’re not really sure if you are actually be the person who owes us money but we’re still going to collect from you because... well just because.”

After multiple phone calls and correspondence through BBB, Banfield’s final position was that I should file a police report and send it to the collection agency. So I did. I told the police the whole story and said I hold Banfield responsible. How horrible of a company do you have to be when even people who aren’t your customers are filing complaints against you? I feel very sorry for people who actually are customers with this horrible company.

Banfield Pet Hospitals. I set up teeth cleaning and suddenly all three of my dogs had heart murmurs so Banfield said no. I took one to another vet and he said no murmur and the cleaning went well. Later that year it was time to euthanize my elderly dog and I was put in a room crying while they took him. I have always held my dog when the injections are used. For an hour hour they kept my dog and the nurse and vet kept ducking in asking questions while I cried. I am 79 and it was very stressful. Finally they said that despite all his problems his heart was okay and they wouldn’t do it. They treated me like I was a very bad person and it hurt so much. Then when I tried to cancel my plan they refused unless I paid For the whole year.

Awful. The process to log in is absurd. Accessing a live person to assist with account info and equally annoying. I spent 2 hours trying to cancel my pet insurance, and failed. Ended up calling my bank and will still need to follow up with them. We used to take our pets for grooming there, until we read that several had died in their care under horrible circumstances. Still, we felt the vets were qualified. Until our puppy was misdiagnosed. At that point we decided to cancel our pet insurance, but after numerous attempts at getting through, we realized the entire process is corrupt. This is not a company you want to trust with your pets.

I first came to Banfield after purchasing a new doberman pinscher puppy. I went into PetSmart looking for a certain brand of dog food, and decided to inquire about a pet healthcare plan. My first warning should have been the "I don't care" attitude the front desk gave me when I approached them. However I did return to bring my pup to her first visit. When talking to the front desk I wanted a detailed explanation of what would be done and the cost. The lady quoted me a total price of $320 for all her shots and heartworm medicine. When I returned to pick up my doggy they then gave me a price almost double! I asked why is the price not what I agreed to in dropoff and the lady simply said they must've left off the dog's medicine. I paid and left feeling a certain way but glad my dog was safe.

I returned for her second round of shots 3 weeks later. Again I was quoted a price and given a higher price on pickup. Again I ask why is it higher than the quoted price on dropoff. The nurse just looked at me like she was going to hold my dog hostage to this scam they keep pulling. When I made it aware this is the second time they've charge me more than my quote. She tried to smooth it over again acting confused on why I was quoted a lower price. Again shrugging her shoulders like "are you going to pay or not?" I paid and told her I would do a review of the company for how I was treated. This is all I can do as they already have my money. Nearly $600 just for rabies shots and heartworm medicine in less than a month!

I called a vet near my house and they stated they could have done the same for less than half that price. DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE! The lobby was filled with doom and gloom of complaining customers talking over the cry of screaming pets in the background (I wondered what they were doing to her). This is my first and worst experience dealing with a pet hospital. I hope it's a one off.

When I first got my puppy we took her to Banfield to check on prices for shots. A nurse informed us that we would sign up for the wellness option plan but told us to sign up for it the day we return for her shots. We come back sign up and my puppy gets her shots. We asked if we decided to go with a cheaper place what is the cancellation process. We were told that we had 4 days to find a new place, cancel the plan and we would not have to pay any fees for doing so.

We call back the next day to call and we’re told we had to pay the remaining $292 of her bill when the previous day we had paid $151. After explaining that we were not told of any of the information regarding the policy in the correct manner the staff still required us to pay the money and told us if it isn’t paid by 6 pm the day we canceled it would go to a collection agency. We were refused all and any refunds until we talked to the head board who only decided to refund us $51. It’s almost 2 weeks later and the refund is still not in my account which I was told it would be in there from 3-4 business days. So in total for a employee's mistake I have had to come out of my pocket with $414 in two days.

I called a week later to confirm and was denied another visit with any skin testing, was told it's just allergies and it will go away. Today three weeks after initial visit, my dogs were ignored for 3 hours when they were dropped off as emergencies, and we were told they could have EASILY diagnosed this FIRST VISIT without any of the rest of my family being affected. Absolutely disgusting level of attention to detail. My pets have now been suffering needlessly for weeks and we have medical bills now. I brought my dog in because he was feeling extremely ill. I decided to sign up with Banfield because their plans seemed to be the most beneficial. They did a bunch of scans and tests & at the end said they didn’t know what was wrong and left it at that with no details whatsoever. It was a quick 30 second explanation, despite his condition. I didn’t want to continue bringing my dog here after the first experience, but had no choice at that point, since the membership cost was less than the cost of the 1st checkup alone. Just be very mindful when coming here, and make sure you ask lots of questions about the costs of every single thing, because when you sign up for the 12 months, and decide to cancel most likely the total costs without the membership would be more than the membership costs, even though the price of the everything done are way cheaper at other vets.

My dog has kidney disease, and my vet wrote a prescription for Hill's Science Diet k/d, but my dog would not eat it. My vet then wrote a general prescription for renal diet dog food so I could get something else. I called Banfield since I was aware that they carried the Royal Canin brand and NONE of the pet stores stock prescription dog food any longer. I was told that even though I had a prescription from my vet that I would need to have Banfield's vet do a complete exam including labs before they would sell me any dog food. That's a few hundred dollars I would need to spend just to buy a few cans of dog food.

Thank God Chewy is quick and I got the food very quickly with no issues. Ordered it on a Friday and Fedex delivered on Sunday at no extra charge. Stay clear of the Banfield greed. They really do not care about your pets. They're just another corporation mining profits. Again, please be aware that none of the pet stores carry prescription foods any longer.

I really wish there is a negative rating. We have been with them for over 7 months now, and every time we visit them for a wellness check they just add some test and bill us at least $50 minimum. Just for our dear puppy, we would do anything and they are just using our emotions. It is just a corporate! Today we had the worst experience at the Lakepleasant Banfield.

Today we took our 9 month old puppy for a wellness visit, and they kept him for 3 hours doing nothing. They called us back saying he was hyper and they could not do any test on him or weigh him. They said we could give him medicines before every vet visit, and they charged $115 for the medicine. I bought the meds and came out and called my wife who said those medicines cost $20 or less at elsewhere with a prescription, so I went inside to return the meds and get a refund. They took the medicines inside a room and came back saying there are missing pills. They counted the medicine and said there are only 70 pills instead of 80 and since 10 pills are missing they can't refund me!

I was really shocked with this. The medicine box was unopened when I returned it. Which means, they either gave me lesser quantity in the first place, or just to not refund the money, they trashed some pills and accused me stating there are missing pills. They basically questioned my value system and ethics. First of all, if they had just said since you bought it you cant return I would have just left, but they questioned my value system and my ethics which hurt the most. When I shouted at them stating I will cancel the monthly, they said I have signed a yearly contract, which was never mentioned to me as well! This is the worst experience ever, and I am really feeling disappointed, hurt, upset and helpless not for just losing the money, but for being accused of missing pills.

Please, I urge you to reach out to any of your neighbors, friends or associates, who can recommend a local veterinarian to you, that has the best interest in pups/cats; A veterinarian who is still ‘old schooled’ and have that in-depth care about our animals, who are family members. I am speaking from experience! Run away from Banfield Hospital for pets!! Like many of you, I am stuck with paying off my contract with them. You see, I have had them for many years and now that my beagle is 12 years old, he was diagnosed with Diabetes.

Banfield diagnosed him when I took him in for a check-up as he was constantly drinking water and urinating quite frequently one day. Sad to say that in those times that I took him in for his ‘usual’ check-ups, he always got a clear bill of health, so I was baffled when I was told that he was this ill. To add fuel to the fire Banfield Hospital recommended I take him to another hospital with a high price tag to get him stabilized.

At this time, you could not imagine the turmoil that I was in, when in the next breath I was told by the vet that my next option was to euthanize him if I could not afford the bill!! What?? Oh no…this vet was kidding right? The day before my pup was being his usual loveable, alert self and all of a sudden I have this heaviness to bear to put him to sleep??? No, unthinkable!!! There must be some other way!! No, absolutely not…according to the vet those were my choices…pay an exorbitant amount of money or end my pup’s life, on that same day he was diagnosed. Well, with the unthinkable and heavy weary heart I had to make that decision. That very night I cradled my pup, spoke with him and prepared to say my goodbye and called Banfield Hospital to schedule putting him to sleep for good.

The morning of that dreaded moment, to put him down, my adorable pup went outside to urinate and sprinted back to me, basically looking and acting as his usual “happy, alert self”. I was in awe…and looked at my son and said “hell no, there was no way I could do this”. No, there must be another way, this is a sign.

Without hesitation, I called Banfield Hospital and cancelled the appointment to put him down and thereafter started calling around. There must be someone out there with a heart and who has some alternatives.

Luckily one of my son’s friends works with a diabetic specialist. We were asked a series of questions and were recommended to find another vet to get him started on insulin. Suffice to say, we did, and found the best veterinarian care hospital owned and operated by all females, females who cares! The funny thing is, the astronomical charge Banfield Hospital wanted from me to stabilize my pup was not even necessary. All he needed was a little liquid for his dehydration which was given by his new vets. Wow, what a difference huh?

I’ve changed my pup’s diet to home cooked food which includes two herbs which not only keeps his insulin level low, but his frequent urination and excessive drinking of water has stopped. Just a simple diet change made a huge difference. It has been five months now and I am working closely with our new vets at this new hospital. With their recommendation and guidance I am now conducting my pup’s glucose curves which I then forward to them for review and insulin dosage. My pup is doing great now, glucose level is under control and he has gained back almost all the weight he loss. Every day when I look at my pup I think about how I almost put him down way before his time. My new vet says with his glucose under control he should live out the rest of his life expectancy.

Diabetes is not the end of your pet’s life, Banfield almost made it so. It is so sad I could not get out of paying the rest of my contract. Had Banfield’s vets taken that extra time to assist with additional recommendations or sought to work through their hearts after so many years faithfully working with them, I would not feel this sadness with the contract, but sadly so much $$ lost over the years. What we thought was a convenience turned out to be our worst nightmare. Run for the hills people I say. Find a local vet.

In July of 2021 i cancelled seven's plan and placed my older cat on a wellness plan with Banfield. Max was seen by Banfield once. I tried to get an appt for Max on three occasions and they were booked. I called back and was advised that I would need to take max somewhere else. Max passed that day after going to VCA Hospital who were kind enough to see him immediately.

When I called to cancel Max's plan, (due to his death) I was advised that I would need to pay an additional $191.00 because his plan did not cancel until July!! Now they took my money for Seven for 2 1/2 years without rendering any services at $22.95 per month, totaling over $500.00 in payments service free and they NOW want an additional 191.00 for a pet they totally ignored and would not see. They did the same thing with Brutis, my rottie, he had cancer and was out of meds and I had to call another vet to get a steroid for his excruciating pain. The Banfield name does not care about you or your pets. They are a business solely focused on money. I have been unable to receive any resolution to my concerns as you cannot speak to anyone at corporate - they refuse to take complaints and give the generic "cares" email address, stating all concerns must be dealt with at a local level. It has been over 2 weeks since I last heard from anyone at Banfield and they surely do not care if my dog is even still alive, let alone ensuring she receives prompt and convenient care for their errors. Invest in Pet Insurance and stay the heck away from Banfield!

There are too many grievances to note all here but here's the summary:

+ Frequently confirming appointments only to have me show up from 25 minute drive away to be told I need to reschedule or come back later.

+ My dog who loves all things and people nearly ** herself when walking in one of their specific locations.

+ Attempts to charge much more than other vets, including nearby Banfield locations quote - in addition to referencing billing separate for services included in plan.

+ Gross mishandling of medications - more than 1 occasion of not dispensing proper amount or proper medications. INCLUDING DISPENSING A 6 MONTH SUPPLY OF FLEA PREVENTION WITH AN EXPIRATION DATE LESS THAN A MONTH AWAY.

+ Complete disregard for how their errors have impacted the quality of life of my pet - right down to telling me I Can drive 90 minutes away in a week to get the proper tests required due to their gross negligence. Pretty much no follow ups on patient care or condition once you walk out the door or hang up unless you complain excessively and follow up on your own.

+ Continues to advertise and onboard new clients under their "wellness" plans when enlisting clients can't even book routine care "included in plan" with less than a 5-8 week wait.

But hey. They take that monthly fee out of my bank like clockwork.

When I got there, I was asked about doing one of the Optimum Wellness options. It seemed like a good idea so I agreed to that. The Surgeon called me before the surgery and told me that 5 teeth would need to be extracted. She gave me a total cost of around $1450.00 which was more than I expected but I thought that each extraction would be about $58.00 to my understanding. And I understood the original $800. Was an estimate. So I agreed to it. After the Surgery and after talking with the Surgeon (which by the way was exceptional which I will explain more about in a minute).

Well, when I got ready to pay the bill, I was told it would be almost $2200.00. Well, I wasn’t prepared for that. I needed an explanation. Since the Surgeon was nearby and listened in, she took charge of the situation (she was also at first shocked by the difference in price) so she went through the bill to figure it out and found that Banfield has a price sheet that allows them to charge you extra and extra and extra for different types and complications of extracts. (Unknown to me). So my complaint is not about the surgeon or any of the Staff. It’s about a Corporation that (instead of caring about patients is more interested in finding ways to mislead to make more money). When this was South Ridge Vet. This wouldn’t have happened.

By the way, what I also found out was that if I excluded the Optimum Wellness Program, I would have to pay as much or even more because I would lose all the discounts included with it. So now, not only have I been “fleeced” but I agreed to a 12 month contract to make payments at a business that I no longer want to do business with. Again, it’s not the Surgeon or the staff. It’s a Corporation that I believe has lost its way. I put them in the same category as Tax agencies who do line item charges that take them two seconds to punch in the computer but can charge an extra $40 or $50. Each. It is just such a shame that I have to question what the true motive of the place I take my pet to. Thanks Banfield for giving me every reason not to trust you.

I have never been one to do reviews but if this saves someone making a care decision about their pets, I am glad to help. This Banfield Hospital is the most poorly run care center for animals I have ever seen. The front assistants/techs never answer the phones or return messages in a timely manner. When you need a refill of medication for your pet, a call 3 days later does not help. When appointments are made, you show up only to hear "we don't have an appointment for you". The worst is having your pet put on specific medication a few days in advance for an appointment, and then hear "no, we don't have an appointment for you". I endangered my pet by putting him on medication YOU prescribed.

The veterinarians are no different. Not personal, don't even introduce themselves and you will see a different one each time. They don't communicate to each other or know what the others are doing. Each time I have visited I had to explain over and over again my dog's condition because of their inept ability to either keep notes or simply communicate. These are things I would expect from an animal hospital.

I would encourage everyone to see a licensed veterinarian with their own practice. They are more skilled and also more personable. They will provide the care you need. They will actually introduce themselves, remember you and your pet, and their condition. Save yourself a lot of time lost, anxiety, fear and stress. I only wish I could get that back. A corporate run clinic that advertises wonderful care for your pet far from delivers.

I had the OWP for both of my elderly dogs. One dog lost control of his bowels and would poop in his own bed at night. Having had previous dogs who did this prior to dying, I called Banfield to have him euthanized. Banfield told me they would have to schedule $600 worth of tests before they would put him down because he received a prior “healthy dog” checkup. Max died in his sleep a few days later. Furious with this I called Banfield. I was told I had to pay the remainder of my dog's contracts. At that time, my other dog had several months left on his contract. I told Banfield, and recorded it, to cancel my other dog's contract as soon as the prorated charges were paid and not to renew. I was told today that because I didn’t call back after there were no more charges, the contract had to be paid until completion, and they had no record of me canceling. I’ve only run into one other shady company like this – ADT.

Customer BEWARE!! Banfield and their Optimum Wellness Plan was the poorest decision we made for our dog. Our dog ate something that was toxic, I called Banfield for advice on what to watch for, signs of toxicity. I was told that they couldn't give me advice over the phone (they couldn't see my dog that day)....This was the FIRST incident. Another incident involved getting a prescription for a medication that the vet told us we could obtain from them. Long story short, going to Banfield was a total regret. I am a retired RN of over 30+ years. Their quality of care/customer service is extremely POOR. We just found a private practice vet - but now Banfield says that we still owe them for the rest of the year for their Wellness Plan, which means that even though they have extremely poor customer service, you're stuck paying for and using their services for a year, no matter how they treat you. Just a heads up to anyone considering using them!!

We have used Banfield since we got our first dog 4 years ago. We signed up for the yearly care as they said this was the best deal. We quickly found out that it didn't cover everything as they originally said it did. Every time we go in there is a list of "recommended" add ons that we should be getting. Today was the last straw. Our newest Pup needed 2 additional shots. She just had a full physical in August. They said she needed 2 other blood work items done. I said "No thanks, just give me the shots she needs." Then they said I would need to leave her there. I asked why, as 2 shots takes about 5 mins. She said they do the shots in between surgeries. Ridiculous. It's now been 5 hours and no call. 2 Shots and my poor dog has to sit in a kennel all day. This is our last day there.

We've had a Banfield Welness Plan on two dogs for 17 years. We selected Banfield because we travel a lot and were sold that we would get quality pet health service wherever we traveled in the US provided there was a Banfield in the area. As long as you don't have any problems you can receive service. Frequently when you make attempt to make an appointment away from your HOME Banfield, the computers aren't talking to the central system. The AWAY Banfield grills you as to why you aren't getting service at your HOME Banfield. It has gotten more and more difficult to get an appointment because seems to be overselling the capability of servicing the existing base. Where we reside there are three Banfield's but it's more difficult to find an available appoint time, more so than when there was only one. We've had to spend thousands of dollars at other vet clinics due to the lack appointment availability when a problem cropped up.

In September of this year we were having problems with an ongoing serious Cyst problem that was opened on our pets side. We called Banfield and were told no appointments were available and were directed by Banfield Staff that we should go to an emergency pet clinic. Our pet lost consciousness and we ended up having to put her down. We called Banfield and told them what happened, the young man said "well we'll cancel your plan but you will owe us $242.00 dollars for undercharges." I said "you've got to be kidding, you wouldn't treat our pet under our Plan and you're billing us for undercharged services on the plan that we paid every month on auto pay for seven years." It's unfortunate that Banfield has grown so large over the years that their main concern seems to us to be the DOLLAR GROWTH OF THE COMPANY and seem to have lost their reason for starting the business to "give affordable quality service to pet owners."

We had a cherished vet at Banfield. She was the only reason we stayed. She left Banfield over a yr ago. We haven't used their (Banfield's) services in 10 months. We are still paying for plans for both our cat and doggo. We have been taking our furry family members to a private vet for the past 10 months. We can only cancel our Banfield plan during a tiny window of time (1 yr exact from the original plan's start date). Even more interesting, is that if you have to go in for a sick visit at Banfield, you will be heartily charged in addition to that monthly plan amount.

The 1st sick visit that our pom went to at our private vet was only around $100.00. I was in shock, knowing that if this had been a Banfield sick visit, it would have been at least twice this amount! (In addition to that monthly amount). You have to cancel your plan in the website, not via the app. My cats's plan is set to cancel 11/30/2021. So what does Banfield do but charge me the full monthly amount of $58.15 (we pay over $116.00 for both pets a month) on 11/26/2021. Folks, go to a private Veterinarian. Your furry family member will have consistent care from someone familiar with their issues that will become familiar, caring human to them. We can't afford pet insurance until we get the Banfield drain off of our backs and a private vet was still cheaper and far more beneficial to our furries.

While most of the medical staff are truly concerned with our pet's needs, Banfield corporate is only driven by greed. In a nutshell, not only did the doctors at a NJ facility miss a critical diagnosis, but they refused to see our beloved pet in an emergency situation, forcing us to take him to an emergency clinic…and this was while enrolled in their Wellness Plan. By then, things were too late and we eventually had to put our pet down.

Now, to make matters worse, Banfield refuses to cancel our plan even though our dog is no longer with us. Rather than try and help us heal from this traumatic loss (of which they are partially to blame) and vast void in our life, we have a monthly reminder that our pet is no longer with us. Once they learned that we tried to cancel, because our pet is now dead, we no longer have access to our pet's medical records or billing information. Yet, just today, they took out another payment for, in my opinion, services not rendered. DO NOT ENROLL IN THE WELLNESS PLAN!

We had several issues with Banfield. They always “added” a visit to her record with an exam even when we just went to refill the meds. Why? Because we were on the wellness plan. We had insurance when we first started to take our dog. They talked us into the wellness plan. A significant discount for services. It’s not a wellness plan but basically an interest free installment plan. They determine your dog needs a specific amount and list of services a year. They divide that up into payments. Even if you don’t bring your dog in for a teeth cleaning, if its on the list, its cost is included in the wellness plan. You renew for an entire year. You cannot drop the plan, not even when your dog dies. You have to pay whatever balance of services. We paid our balance every time we visited so I don’t know how we even had a balance but whatever. We loved our vet at Banfield and so did our dog but I will never take another dog back to Banfield.

Figured I’d share this here as well. Be very careful of the fine print on your wellness plan. We had been bringing our dog to Banfield for vet services for nearly 13 years. Sadly, we had to say goodbye to our sweet dog…with Banfield euthanizing him. When I contacted Banfield a few days later to cancel his wellness plan, I was essentially told: "Sorry for your loss…you owe the remaining 11 months of your wellness plan." I would understand if we had just abandoned Banfield services. But our dog is gone…and they’re now saying that we need to pay for nearly a year’s worth of upcoming wellness services for our deceased dog. Ironic thing is that they had said our dog had “really bad arthritis” in his rear legs during his last semi-annual visit. So we re-upped the plan to get him as much help as we could.

When we brought him back in a few months later (and after we had re-upped), we were told by a different Banfield vet that our buddy had an incurable nerve issue and his life expectancy was months at absolute best, with nothing we could do to help him. Funny how we got the correct diagnosis AFTER we re-upped the plan. Utilize Banfield services at your own risk.

I gave my cat this medication for almost two weeks. I found out this was the incorrect medication on his next vet visit. I asked for his visit to be refunded. The manager was not there so the person at the desk called them. They only offered to credit a portion of the visit. The person at the front desk kept telling me that my vet was on lunch when I asked what the effects would be in my cat for having taken the wrong medication. It wasn't until I asked why there are no vets there he said there was another vet there and I asked to see him to talk about what effects this would have on my cat. This was not offered- I had to ask.

I called the corporate headquarters and they asked if I had spoken to the shift manager-this again was not offered. I asked to speak to the shift manager and they offered to test my cat's blood levels which I declined because I do not wish to put my cat in their care ever again. She would not fully credit my appointment. I had to pay $200 to a company that made an unforgivable error. I now have to bring my cat to another vet and have them evaluate his blood work and assess the damage this has had on him. This will cost another $200 which is why I was asking for my visit to be refunded. I came home and realized I needed a copy of his xrays. I called to ask if they would email it to me. I was put on hold for 20 minutes and then hung up on.

DO NOT USE BANFIELD IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE IN A CONTRACT! You pay a monthly fee for your wellness plan. But they pride themselves for if you need a visit in between your two visits a year you can get in and don't have to pay the office visit and only pay for test/prescriptions. IF THEY HAD APPOINTMENTS AVAILABLE. They are called Banfield Pet Hospital. You would think having "Hospital" that they would at least have a handful of appointments available/blocked out for same day emergencies/unplanned issues that come up. My dog ate our salmon dinner (never having eaten anything defrosting from the sink before) and I immediately called and the lady that answered said "Oh I don't know. I would suggest going to the hospital."

At that point I was just looking for information. After having called the Clackamas VCA they gave me good info but unfortunately said I just need to watch our dog and symptoms may not show for 5-10 days. Today he started acting off, but not showing the top common symptoms listed but I called to see if I can at least get him in just to make sure he's ok or bring in a fresh fecal sample. (I know exactly what it's from if anything showed up in his stool, and I've already called them once about the issue, not like it was new.) They said, "No we don't have any appointments. We suggest you take them to the hospital." Like seriously, WHAT DO I PAY FOR?

Then I find a place that will take him tomorrow at 3:00pm, that is not a hospital where I will pay an arm an a leg. After further research and reviews and pricing other places, Banfield is a rip off. Especially if you do not have things that come up often. (Usually we don't.) I cancelled our dog's plan (luckily in time) but go to cancel my cat's plan and they will not let me cancel until I pay the whole year's worth. She was seen right after our plan renewed, so I understood that there is 2 visits a year.

I understood if I needed to pay through January to cover that one visit that was right after our plan renewed, but they said no. I have to keep the plan for the whole year. I pay annually 350 something, and that 1 visit was 400 something. WHAT!!! I could get cheaper services at a vet clinic elsewhere for that one visit. They should be called Banfield Pet Clinic NOT HOSPITAL! Please know what your paying for before you sign up! Do research on other clinics and fee pricing sheet with office visit 2 a year for a 3 year old dog, and what you would pay monthly at Banfield.

Vet said bring him back in one week. Second appointment had the kitten all day again. Did another fecal exam and this time said the kitten had something in his ear. Vet gave the kitten more antibiotics, anti diarrhea, ear drops and of all things a rabies vaccination.

This time I asked what was wrong with the kitten, the vet said it has a sensitive tummy. 4 days later the kitten died! From what I am understanding from a couple of other vets in the area, the kitten should have never been give all those meds at that kitten's age. Here is the thing! I was told nothing would be done to the kitten until I was contacted first! That never happened! Contacted the vet about the kitten dying, she said that was unfortunate! Unlike banfield where they charge you over $300 for the first few things and even and it doesn't even cover all of their vaccinations. I got my dog’s vaccinations for cheap and they even do exams.

Now to this part, BANFIELD, even after telling them to cancel because I wasn’t satisfied and they did nothing but lies to me, told me I had to pay back the rest of services that I got even though I specifically told them what I was there and that he didn't need anything more than a basic check up to make sure he was healthy, not a teeth cleaning, not a test for wisdom panel, nothing about fecal test exam. Yet they decided that even though I asked them not to do that, they were going to do it anyway. I could have places that done it cheaper than Banfield, but they just wanted the money and did without my consent.

This is why I changed my debit card information and even with doing that, THEY FOUND MY NEW DEBIT AND CHARGED THAT. So they illegally charged my card without my consent at all. We have been loyal customers and have paid Banfield over $13,000 over the years. I specifically chose this insurance plan because the contract clearly stated that it comes with unlimited vet office visits. Unfortunately, Banfield has become extremely difficult to schedule appointments for the past year and we have not been using many available benefits, such as teeth cleaning, since 2019. I would not have any issue with paying for the policy if I was able to use it when my dog needed medical care. However, it is not justified that Banfield wants to continue to charge me $68.95 every month for a plan that I cannot use and which led to the death of my dog. Banfield has breached their end of contract of limiting the number of vet visits each month.

After 8 nasty calls & several telephone calls which turned out to "road rage" They have turned my account to a COLLECTION AGENCY all over $150, dollars. I was never informed. On Aug 9, 2021 I called to make arrangements to have my dog euthanized after the vet said there was nothing more they could do except additional pain meds. I spoke with Carley and asked her the costs for the procedure. She explained the options and I decided just to have her euthanized and remains not to be returned to me. She quoted $103.00 and made an appointment for that evening at 5:00 pm. I took Belle and registered at the reception desk and paid for the services while they took her to the back for prep for the iv. They took me to a room to wait, while waiting an attendant came in and said they forgot a $60.00 dollar charge for something and I paid that. Then another attendant came in while I was with Belle and said they forgot to charge for the euthanasia itself and add an additional $30.00 dollars to the charges!

I was outraged by this bait and switch price gouging and started to leave with my dog! The Vet was compassionate and apologized for the "mess-up" and gave some discount. I will not be taking another pet or recommend Banfield to anyone with a pet. It is immoral and a shame that a business would take advantage of anyone while they mourn the death of loved pet. The charge ended up $190.73 after the discount the vet offered. What if I only had the $103.00 I was quoted? The bait and switch needs to stop!

I am a wellness plan member at the High Point NC Banfield location located off Eastchester. We have been wellness plan members for my puppy since December of 2020 so about 8 months now. During that time I have had multiple unsatisfactory experiences with the staff at multiple levels including the reception staff, vet techs, and Dr. **. Some of these issues have been resolved but only when I’ve submitted formal complaints via the Banfield website. Not once were they handled by the staff. These issues included:

    1. Not being informed of Banfield’s policy requiring drop off and that there would not be an opportunity to speak with the vet during the visit before signing up for the wellness plan. (His first initial visit we only waited on him for 30 minutes and had a lengthy talk with the vet immediately after.)

    2. Relaying information at check in about specific concerns and questions for the doctor then at check out being told there were no notes in the file addressing this. (I had to ask at three separate visits to have a prescription written for anti nausea medication for my dog who would get carsick every time we had to drive him to the vet).

    3. Requiring way too frequent visits including monthly visits simply to weight my dog before they could give me his monthly flea and tick preventative and being told on multiple occasions when I brought him in to be weighed that I needed to come back the following day to pick up the medication as the doctor had not signed off on it yet even though I called days ahead of time to coordinate this.

    3. Telling the staff both at the time I scheduled the appointment and at check in for that appointment on multiple occasions that I wanted to pick him up as soon as he was finished so he was not crated at their office the entire day. Only to be waiting for several hours and even being told on one occasion he would be ready in about 15 minutes, driving over there and being told when I arrived there 30 minutes later that the vet had just now started with him.

    4. Having to be the one initiating the scheduling of my dog’s neuter surgery (which is included in his plan which expires in December) after being told he was good to not come back until February.

    5. Bringing my dog in for the scheduled neuter surgery and an exam for a slight limp for the past week. I received a call two hours later saying he has pain in his hip and would not be getting surgery and needed x rays which would cost around $440 dollars without sedation and that they might have to sedate him for an additional charge.

I took him to another veterinary hospital the same day who examined him (with me in the room observing and he demonstrated in my dog the exact location of the injury) and in 30 minutes were able to diagnose him with a minor injury as a result of a class 1 luxating patella he was born with (which the Banfield doctors had not noticed in any of their routine check ups with him of which there have been numerous). He prescribed medication and rest. I walked out his door spending only $119 total between medication and exam costs and was informed that x rays (which would only cost me $225 including the exam cost) were completely unnecessary. Would not have given any additional information for treatment.

    5. Upon researching bad reviews on Banfield after my terrible experience learning that our plan was set to auto renew without our approval and having to go through a ridiculous processes confirming on three separate occasions that I did not want it to renew.

    6. Calling the center to be placed on hold for 16 minutes then having the call ended and calling back multiple times before I was able to get through to speak with anyone only to show up at the Banfield location 8 minutes later with two receptionists at the desk both seemingly unoccupied and no customers in line or waiting in the general vicinity.

    7. Being told that my puppy had internal parasites and that I needed to bring my older dog in to be tested (for the cost of the test plus an initial exam fee as he wasn’t a patient there) as they were likely to spread between dogs. Only to call his vet (whom I was asking to pay them for the same test to be performed) and be told over the phone that there was no way he could have caught that particular internal parasite unless he had eaten the puppy’s poop or stepped in his poop and licked his paws. They instructed me to monitor him for any changes in appetite or bowel movements and if nothing was abnormal to save my money that he was okay.

I do not trust the support staff at this Banfield (due to my numerous negative experiences both today and in the past) nor the medical advice of the doctors after my experience today and I would like to have the option to take my dog elsewhere. However I am on contract and because they refused to do surgery today (which I do understand and do not disagree with that recommendation) I will have to either take the financial loss (I still owe four payments on the plan and I would have to pay for the neuter surgery elsewhere despite having already paid for it at Banfield as part of the wellness plan) or continue to take my dog somewhere I do not feel has his best interests at heart.

While I have had positive experiences with some of the staff, in particular the vet techs, I have felt like the majority of my experience at Banfield has been aimed at making money off me and not helping to keep my dog healthy and happy. I cannot speak to all Banfield locations but I sincerely hope that this location is an outlier.

I was told there are days when they don’t even have a vet in the office. I am paying for a service that I cannot receive because there is no vet or there is no appointments. They’re just stealing money at this point. Please avoid this place at all costs.

I think it is completely inappropriate for them to leave pets in a carrier for that length of time, then need to sedated them because they are so upset by that time. I picked up my pets without having them examined, then tried to call email and online chat with Banfield CARES with no result. In the meantime they are continuing to draft the monthly payments for my annual treatment plan. On a previous occasion, I had these same two cats spayed at Banfield. One of the cats did fine, while the other was left with a jagged scar that did not heal properly for months and left a lump. Incredibly uncaring attitude by local practice in Glen Allen Virginia. I had a visit with his former vet January 2021 but, wanted to establish him as a new patient with the Stoneham location and booked a comprehensive exam in March of 2021. During this visit, I brought ALL of my medical records for them to make a copy and take notes of all his recent vaccinations and testing so it would be on file.

Fast forward to July when I need to re-fill the dogs heartworm/flea/tick medication, Banfield in Stoneham keeps denying the request. I leave several voicemails, sometimes with no call back. I finally hear back from the client service coordinator (who might I add insisted on talking over me and was not professional- but that's another issue) and they inform me they are not approving this order because the heartworm test has not been done (despite having records of this being done in January). I went back and forth with them about this, and they kept insisting I make an appointment to have testing done. I am not having my dog have unnecessary testing because they are incapable of reading medical records. I plan to cancel my upcoming appointments, if their veterinarians are unable to read medical records, I certainly do not trust them to care for my dog. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. I've been with Banfield for several years and was just ok with their service. But when I needed them the most I was sent to another vet. It was about 30 minutes before they closed and our dog sustained an injury. I called our Banfield we've gone to for years and was told that it was too close to their closing time that I had to take my dog to an Animal Hospital that cost me hundreds of dollars more.

I recently called Banfield because I thought my dog had an ear infection because he kept scratching at his ears. I was told the earliest they could get me in was 5 days later. When I got there on Friday they gave me ear drops. Our dog continued to scratch his ear and it caused the floppy part of his ear to completely fill with fluid. When I call back on Monday to get him back in I was told it would be a week before they could see him. I explained we have the Wellness Pan and was still told they couldn't get me in. I asked them why am I paying all this money and I can't get an appointment. I was told to go to another Banfield in the next town over.

They got us in the next day. They drained the ear and sent us home with antibiotics. Within another 3 days it filled back up. Tried to get back in to our Banfield and was told I had to go back to the banfield that treated him. I call back the other Banfield and spoke to the vet explained that the ear filled back up what was the next steps. He said he wasn't sure maybe draining it or maybe opening the ear draining it again and but in stitches and a drain. I asked him if they could quote a price. I already spent over $340.00 from the last visit I didn't want to have it drained and fill back up. The vet called me back and said it would be around $850 to possibly over $900. I asked what did that entail and he said he wasn't sure what they would do until I brought the dog in for surgery.

At that point I didn't feel confident of this vet and I took our dog to the local vet who got us in the next day, did do surgery on his ear with a drain and it cost me $350. To include the 3 follow-up visits. I also requested Banfield to fax over all our pets records to this vet so we didn't have to be charged for blood work we just had done an it was never done. I had to personally go to Banfield and have them print all three dogs records to take to the new vet. When I was asked why I told them what happen and the girl just said that they've been short 2 vets since the beginning of the year and that there has only been one vet working for several of months. If these were wellness checks I would have been totally fine waiting but when my dog is either injured or sick I expect my dogs to be seen right away. In both cases our dogs were not taken care of. I would discourage ANYONE from using Banfield as your primary vet clinic. My dog was misdiagnosed there TWICE by TWO different veterinarians. The first time my dog was gaining significant weight and the vets could not figure out what was going on. It was actually the front desk assistant that told me to look into if my dog had a thyroid deficiency. Further, when I got her tested, the vet still told me nothing was wrong. I had them send her results to a different veterinarian clinic at which point they determined she had a thyroid deficiency. The second time Banfield misdiagnosed my dog having allergies for a mast cell tumor. Because my dog was misdiagnosed with allergies, we were not able to treat the actual problem more quickly which has resulted in my dog having 3 surgeries now. For the sake of your dog's health, PLEASE do not use Banfield. They will likely misdiagnose your dog too...

I, like most of the people on here posting reviews, pay towards a wellness plan for my dog. I would agree that it is very expensive. I signed up and a month into it I realized that my definition of a “hospital” is completely different from that of Banfield. I get it, they aren’t open 24hrs but at least offer last minute appts or emergency appts. They do neither. I’ve had a sick puppy with explosive diarrhea, on another occasion an abscess that had ruptured and even an upper respiratory infection that triggered a whole other list of ailments including 2 ear infections. These people were not able to ever squeeze her in or consider an emergency appt. Instead on all occasions, regardless of what location I called- I was told to take her to the local emergency hospital. This is not right.

If I’m paying $70/ mo. Regardless of whether it’s a wellness plan or not, there should be something in place for these type of emergencies. I should not have to go else where to pay $65 office visit for my dog to be treated. I only have about 4 mos left into my plan but I will be cancelling. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR ANY WELLNESS/MAINTENANCE PLAN THEY OFFER. They are scam artists and not in it for the treatment of the animal. I am highly disappointed.

If I can save anyone the pain and trauma that we experienced over the weekend I hope this will help. Our cat Gracie had been a patient at the Banfield Pet Hospital (Mills) in Orlando FL for almost two years. She started there at the end of 2019. Until Saturday - When she died a traumatic death an hour after her appointment at this Banfield. The clinic and Dr ** seemed great at first. The Vet that had cared for Gracie for 5 years (Dr. ** in Orlando FL) suspected she may have diabetes and suggested I find somewhere that specialized in treating Cats with feline diabetes. So, we took her to Banfield. The Vet even told us that her cat had diabetes as well. Gracie was put on insulin and began to get better. We signed up for the Wellness plan at the office's urging because having a diabetic cat can get pretty expensive. Don't sign up for their wellness plans - they did not cover any blood work etc that Gracie needed to monitor her diabetes.

Fast forward to about three months ago. Gracie had been having some stomach issues and we were worried. We dropped Gracie off at Banfield to have some diagnostic tests done. (This was during Covid so we could not stay with her) When we picked Gracie up and paid the almost $600.00 bill - They told us they had no idea what was wrong with her because all of the tests were normal. We took some anti-nausea medicine home with us. That evening I noticed Gracie was limping - this lasted for several days. When I called Banfield - I was told that Gracie had been a bit "difficult." I was concerned but she felt better in the upcoming days. I will say that in the last couple of months Gracie has been doing really well. She has been eating well, playing and no more stomach - or high blood sugar issues. She had even been able to have her insulin dose lowered.

I needed to get another prescription of insulin from Banfield. I was told that Gracie would need another Glucose curve done before I could continue with her prescriptions. When I made the appointment I was told that this would be a much shorter test because of Gracie's stress levels the last time she was seen. Last Saturday - June 5th, 2021, My daughter and myself dropped Gracie off and went to do an errand because they said she would be ready in an hour. When we got back to Banfield - We waited a few minutes and then they brought her out in her carrier and charged me the fee. They handed me some paperwork explaining that she had her annual vaccines as well. They told me Dr ** would call me in a couple of days with the Glucose results.

As we started home - I asked my daughter to check on Gracie because she was not doing her usual meowing that she always does in the car. My daughter kept her hand laid on Gracie on the drive home because she was "panting." I thought she might be stressed. When we arrived home - Gracie stumbled out of her carrier and fell on her side on the floor. She was crying and gasping for air. I had never seen her in such distress.

I called Banfield and they said to just take her to an ER Vet and gave us a phone number of one that was quite a distance from where we live. Really??? We found a Vet that was close and open on Saturdays. We rushed Gracie there. They were shocked at her condition. They called Banfield to demand answers. 5 Vets and techs worked hard for the next 30 minutes to try and save my cat's life. She was too far gone. They could not save her. So, a bit over an hour after leaving Banfield she was dead! I dropped off a very healthy and happy animal and brought home a cat in severe distress that was dying!

Dr ** then decides to call me after she learned that my cat Gracie was dead. She was crying and kept saying she did not know what had happened and that she really did "like" Gracie. What was that about?? I called the corporation today and am still waiting for a Manager to call me back. I pulled out the paperwork from Banfield today - I had not wanted to look at it because I am so very upset over this. Dr ** listed on the sheet with the "things that were wrong" - That Gracie was aggressive! That is what this Vet thought to put down as to what she thought was wrong with my Cat! This was extreme negligence. What did they do to my beautiful Cat? She is gone, they are responsible for her death. Please don't use Banfield. I do not want anyone to ever go through what we went through. I do not ever want anyone's beloved pet to suffer like my Gracie did.

We'd been with Banfield for several years. They were one of the first to offer a pet wellness plan. We had previously lived on the northwest side of Oklahoma City and were pretty happy with the service. When we moved to Midwest City (SE side of OKC), we changed Banfield locations and have recently terminated our contract with them. Reasons: Incessant upcharges, incessant upservices, incessant new diseases demanding immediate treatment (and more money), increasing costs, while covered services decrease.

Our last visit (last week), we took the dogs in for a final exam and shot record. We also asked about their heartworm treatments, but were told the shots would be $108 per dog because we were ending the contract (we were still under contract at the time). We declined, but later received a call from Banfield that the dogs were authorized for the treatment, but we had to bring them in for testing, for which they will now charge us exorbitant lab fees since we're no longer under contract. Why didn't they do that test last week while we were still under contract? These experiences are typical of the current standard of care at Banfield in Midwest City, and probably at all of their locations in the U.S. (crass corporatism has come to pet care). So we have ended our association with them.

I could not get an appointment for my baby with CHF for more than a month so I had to seek out another vet who rearranged her schedule to fit him in not once but twice. He ultimately did end up at the emergency room as passed away. Blue Pearl notified Banfield who apparently told Chewy.com when they called to confirm a prescription.

I received flowers and a sympathy note from Chewy.com along with a follow up phone call. I received phone calls from the new vet clinic - which had not even been notified directly and had only seen my baby on two occasions. Not ONE call or email from Banfield. Called to cancel his plan and they said, "Yeah we have removed him but it just renewed so you have to keep paying for 11 months" ($44/months) - it just won't renew again. Hello, I have been bringing my dog (10.5 years old) to Banfield for his entire life. For most, if not all, of that time we have been enrolled in the Wellness Plan. Previous to that, I was bringing my cats to the same clinic. I have been a member of Banfield Arundel Mills (MD) for well over a decade. I really enjoyed the service that was provided by Trevor ** and his team for most of that time. Even with him gone, I stayed loyal to the team and the people who I was familiar with for years. Some are still there.

But in the past few years, I feel like the service has dipped. The wait times dropping off my Dexter and picking him up have gotten longer. The phone calls following up with me faded off. And the appointment reminder calls essentially disappeared. I now had to basically keep track of my own dog's appointment reminders. And I have not really talked directly to a Veterinarian in quite some time. At one point, if I had a drop-off appointment, a vet would come out as I picked him up. They would give me a very quick summary of their findings. If it was not a vet, it was at least a tech. Now the only employees I talk with are the receptionists. I don't mean to disparage their job, but I want to get a summary from someone with more experience.

All of these things have been occurring slowly over the last 2-3 years. But the experience I had Mar 25, 2021 has solidified my desire to stop coming to Banfield. Like I said before, I had to call in order to make an appointment. I made a drop-off appointment. While I made the appointment for 8am, I still ended up waiting in line for 25+ minutes in order to drop him off. The poor workers in the front seemed understaffed and/or undertrained and/or overwhelmed. Even after my dog was taken to the back, I stood by the desk for 10 minutes while she attempted to pull up my dog's history to ask me some basic questions. I did not hear a peep about how the appointment was going until I called them at 4pm. At that point, they told me Dexter was good to be picked up. Once again, I had to wait in line for probably 20 min just to have a receptionist bring him out and tell me that there was essentially nothing to report.

The two issues that I noticed that really upset me though: his collar was placed back on in a way that was essentially pinching the side of his neck. I attached the leash and noticed he was very uncomfortable on our walk to the car. It wasn't til I got home and he acted even more strange that I noticed that all his fur was so pinched in the buckle that the collar wasn't sitting free around his neck. It was stationed exactly where it was no matter how much pulling or moving we did. I would imagine that was painful! Second, as we were leaving, he had to pee as soon as we left the Petsmart. Without exaggeration, he had the longest pee of his life. And I made sure to let him out before I dropped him off. So it seemed pretty clear to me that he had never once been let out to go to the bathroom between 8a and 5p.

This was the final bit of knowledge I needed to cancel my wellness plan. By themselves it wasn't great. But now it's a downward pattern with no sign of improving. It is just time to move on. I respect the 11+ years that you were a trusted health partner. However, when I called to cancel, I was informed that I still owe the rest of my yearly Wellness Plan no matter what. Before I was to cancel, I was offered a month of free wellness since my time has been less than ideal. But once I was set on canceling I was told I would owe $600.

I understand the logic of your argument. It's a yearly plan that coincidentally auto-renewed mere weeks before my 3/25 visit. So by your rules, I have paid $0 into the yearly plan while extracting expensive services on 3/25. Although it was a simple wellness visit with no extra services beyond the basic service. But I have most likely put $10,000 (!!) of service into your company for over a decade: Wellness Plans for 10 years plus countless other visits. You are demanding that I owe $600 so I can cancel (or continue using your poor service for a year) because this recent visit "hasn't been paid for"? That is utterly ridiculous. Especially considering the poor care we received during that visit. That was hardly $600 service.

I certainly understand that ultimately Banfield is a business that needs to make money. But I had a hunch that maximizing profits are now significantly prioritized over good customer service and quality veterinary care. This cancelation process has really solidified that belief. It is a shame. I am now forced to use this poor service for another year. My opinion in your company certainly won't improve during that time.

They sucker you in with this pet plan that sounds good. So they bill you monthly for service. Then every time your pet visits, they come up with extra things needed that aren't covered. I have yet to leave for less than $200, plus my $66 monthly plan. If your billing gets messed up they charge you a $20 fee without contacting you first. Customer service is useless, absolutely useless. The clinic itself rarely answers the telephone and puts you on hold. My dog has to have blood work done for Cushing's disease. They charged over $300 for this. Another vet's office could have done it for $129. I do not recommend these people. They provide mediocre service at high prices.

The company is out of Oregon which isn’t a Texas company. I would just as well let Oregon secede. Terrible service and if you want a Walmart experience then go for it but if you want quality care for your pet go elsewhere. Btw they don’t answer the phone either.

The third appointment one of the vets told me I was right and need to be neutralized but he was older and out of the plan that include the surgery. I had to pay extra for neutralized. How can a vet cannot see if a male was or not neutralized? They never make a good inspection on him.

The female, was diagnosed with Lyme disease but Vet told us, "Don't worry and we will take care when she get more symptoms." After few month she was very sick, not walking and not eating and we called Banfield to take care of her, but there was no appointment for emergency. I told them I wait following their recommendations but they gave me hour for 2 more weeks, but my dog needed assistance right away. I went to an urgent care for pets and vet told me why she was never treated when was diagnosed? Instead to have 2 weeks antibiotics we had to give her 6 weeks of antibiotics because disease was not treated when it was diagnosed. Please do not use Banfield, they do not care about our lovely pets. I will never recommended to anyone.

I wish I could rate Banfield less than one star, and I wish that I had read more reviews before ever signing anything with them. As far as the medical treatment, the techs and veterinarians gave our dog pretty good care. But after 14 years Fritz (our miniature schnauzer) developed several serious health issues and we had to make the awful choice to put him down. Banfield will not send a vet to the house so we had to go elsewhere for in-home service. "Lap of Love" was amazing to deal with and I would recommend them to anyone.

So, after Fritz was gone we called Banfield to cancel his health care, only to find out that they don't call it insurance; they call it a "discount plan", and since we renewed in October and used services they were going to continue to bill us monthly until it was paid off. After a couple calls they took half off the balance, but that, in my opinion, is still a slap in the face. It reminded me of a documentary I recently watched on the Titanic where the White Star Line, the owner of the Titanic, billed the families of the dead employees for their uniforms that weren't returned. So beware!!! Banfield's so called "PLAN" is not insurance. If/when you suffer the loss of your furry family member, you will probably have to continue paying Banfield for a while.

I'm thinking to myself, "I got it the first time you told me." Then my dogs start barking at another dog. I guess this upset Jesse, from not being able to talk over my dogs barking, to explain to me for the hundredth time what he had already explained to me, he said, rather rudely, "I'll just come back and talk to you once they stop barking," and he turned and went back into the exam area.

After about 5 minutes, he came out, and once again started telling me what they found with my dog. My thing is the way he got upset over my dogs barking. You work in a freakin' pet hospital. If a dogs bark upsets you that much, you are definitely in the wrong field. That's like a nurse working with babies but can't handle a crying baby. My advice, Jesse, find another line of work. Any other aspect of this company that I experienced was horrible trash. We stopped going to Banfield for years but had trouble cancelling our account after our bad experiences - they made it way easier to pay $35 a month than to cancel your account. The other vets were reprehensible people. They were critical of pet owners, and not understanding - making you feel like if you don't have $6,000 for surgery then you shouldn't own a pet.

In the end, my companion passed away in early February. We used an in-home service called "Compassionate Care" and they were VERY GOOD. I called Banfield to cancel my account and they told me I have to pay for the FULL YEAR because my account automatically renewed in January. You have to call a special number to cancel your account and it is horribly obvious how they are trained to get money out of grieving people. It's disgusting. Overall, there are a few good people that work here, but the system is designed for profit and as soon as you strip away the first layer of nice people in the vet's office, this business's practices are cold and vicious. My 17 year old dog started having seizures a year ago. 1 every other month and had gotten worse over time. We tried making an appointment at our reg Banfield office that we have been part of for 12 years. Two weeks out...hhmm ok we made an appoint at our second choice Banfield for that day which we were grateful for.

The doctor came in we explained what she was going through the seizures and trouble sleeping on her side and offered us a choice of a loading dose (faster absorption thus faster acting med) or just start her on seizure meds 2 x a day that may of taken a few weeks to absorb and start working. I asked the vet if there were any SIDE EFFECTS. (Nowhere is possibly where I went wrong and did not research the medicine myself which I usually do, I was assuming the doctor would give me all the information I needed to make a good decision for the Quality of Life for my dog, other people may not research the meds or procedures they depend on the doctor for that.)

The Vet told me that "No side effects. Just check her Liver in a few weeks to see if it's acting correctly." I asked how long would it take. She said "About 30 mins or so. We have to push it in slowly. It's strong medication." I said ok let's do the loading dose and I will be back in 30 min. expecting the same dog back I left. 10 min later I get a call. "Mr. ** we did the calculation wrong and it will be 3.5 hours..." My dog is 17 years old almost 18, gets nervous at vets and one of the qualifications of me doing this was not to have her wait in cage all day for them to admin the medicine.

The other qualification and this is huge is SIDE EFFECTS. The doctor telling me basically that there were no side effects was the factor in my decision to go forward. To continue my wife had to pick our dog up and when she came home our dog was wailing from the effects of the drugs...I was furious, did my research and found out that there was a 4-6 week break in period for the meds to level off, that she would have weak hind legs and need to be physically helped because she was so drugged up and groggy that she had trouble focusing and basically doing anything. These KNOW SIDE EFFECTS were not told to us at all. I had to find this out on my own.

The side effect were supposed to last for 2-4 days depending on the dog...7 days later my dog was still having full on Side Effects. We called the hospital asked for another Veterinarian. She immediately told us to lower the dosage we also asked if we could wean her almost completely off and that maybe something else was going on with her. Over the next 5 days we weaned her almost completely off the seizure med except a 1/4 a pill 2x a day which she excepted Kinda... and also had her looked at by the second vet due to the fact that our dog was having issues sleeping on her side.

When we took her in to have her looked at she told us that we have x-rays on our plan and we can see if anything else is going on...long story short she had a large mass on her spleen which was the culprit all along. We ended up have a home euthanasia within the next 2 days. The only saving grace was that our dog was off the debilitating drugs and she was awake, aware and walking around on her own with some pain. She was having a good last day. My point of all this was if we had the right information from the doctor if the 1st vet had checked our plan and done an x-ray giving us the right information about side effects we would never have put our dog thru this and possibly had a few more Good days wither possibly not..

I don't want to go on telling Banfield what Veterinarians should do. This review is self explanatory... For the past several years the quality of the care from Banfield has declined..maybe not enough vets for their work load....seems that way...Right now they are hit or miss whether you will get a Professional Vet or someone overworked who does not give you the correct info to make a Quality of Life Decision...For those reasons I do not recommend Banfield pet hospital. and if I could give them a negative score I would.

I took my cat Bob into Banfield Animal hospital inside Petsmart to have his fur trimmed. Bob was an older, skittish, rescue cat that didn't like to be brushed. Needing him groomed we asked that the vet trim his hair at his next appointment. They agreed but ended up having to sedate him to shave his fur to remove any knots he had. After he was done and had woken up, we brought Bob home. We noticed he was a bit "off" but assumed it was from being sedated and he would come out of it, only he kept getting worse. We couldn't figure out what was wrong because at the time there was no obvious wound. (Bob was a black and white cat with black skin so it took a few hours to become obvious).

We ended up taking him to a 24 emergency vet after he kept declining and was in obvious pain. That's when we were told he had been severely burned by a heater. He was in shock and in immense pain. All of this because someone couldn't seem to keep an eye on a sedated animal next to a heater in their care. Vets have heaters inside recovery crates/kennels to help regulate body temp. Anyone working in this particular field should be aware of these heaters and the damage they can cause. All the staff had to do was make sure he didn't lay against or directly on the heater or, at the very least, that it wasn't hot enough to cause an injury.

When we called Banfield to follow up on the situation they refused to accept responsibility. I know I didn't burn my cat. We didn't have anything that would cause these burn marks in our home. We didn't come into contact with anything hot between leaving Banfield and returning home. He was fine except for some matted hair in places until I picked him up from Banfield's care. They had given Bob a lion cut, unfortunately for him, which made his skin even more susceptible to burns.

We had to have Bob put to sleep a few agonizing days later. The pain from an extensive burn covering the entire right side of his body was just too much and too unfair to ask him to suffer through.

Banfield, of course, still denies any wrongdoing. Obviously, we stopped taking any pets to Banfield for care, but since I signed up for the "care plans" before this incident, I am still paying them for killing my beloved grumpy cat, three years later. I don't mind paying my bills, I signed the agreement. That's my fault. The part that gets me the most is the utter lack of accountability or concern for the animal obviously they killed.

My cockapoo Daisy had seen the vets at Banfield Robinson since birth, for 13 years. She received good, quality care there from both vet techs & doctors. Occasionally, I would be frustrated because I paid for the insurance for my dog that covered office visits, and it could be over a week to get in to be seen, because they have way too many clients, they are "big corporate" and that means you overextend and can not always offer what you promise. But for the most part I was always happy, I had been there for 13 years!

I had a SCHEDULED recheck appointment for my dog, Daisy, ear infection because it had not cleared up over weeks. I arrived and they tell me I am not seeing a doctor today. My appointment was for an allergy shot. I said "No, we don't need an allergy shot," (she had just been given her first one to help with her ear infection so this was not even a common thing we did regularly, and said she needed to see a doctor). They told me, "Sorry, you can't see one today." I again, explained they had put her appointment in their system wrong and my dog needed her ear checked again because the ear infection had not gone away and the meds they gave her actually caused permanent hearing loss on top of all of this and she still was not better. An appointment for an allergy shot means you only see a vet tech, which means she would not see a doctor for her ear.

The absolute rudest young girl who was the receptionist, I guess, was so insulting, had no empathy for my dog or me as an owner of an elderly dog who had been back twice already and still was not better, it was all just appalling. I refused to leave and said I would not leave until my dog saw a doctor. She needed help. As I sat for over 2.5 hours and shared my frustration with other clients as they came in as "walk-in" appointments, this very unprofessional and just mean girl would insert herself into my private conversations with other clients when I was talking. She would literally say "You do not have an appointment today, you are lying" when I would explain my situation to other clients. She kept egging me on over & over as I sat for 2.5 hours and kept asking to see a doctor.

I had a sick elderly dog, I took a day off work to care for my dog, and then was treated so inhumanely, with no empathy, and no respect. I was extremely upset and continued to state I was not leaving till I saw a doctor, as all the "walk-ins' were seen over me. This disrespectful little girl told me that I would need to leave the facility. I finally saw a doctor, this girl interrupted our conversation which she was not a part of & told me again I was lying, again, does not have any empathy or communication skills. I received a call from the office manager of this banfield who wanted to tell me that I can't talk to her staff the way I did. She did not want to hear my side, in her eyes I was the "bad guy" and would not listen to me at all. She said, "You are no longer welcome at banfield. We are terminating your services."

A 13 year client was terminated because they put my scheduled appointment in their system wrong & would not just kindly say, "Ok, we made a mistake. You will have to wait a little bit." No, they treated me like dirt, were rude, mean, and unsympathetic as I sat with my elderly sick dog. Just wanted someone to help her. HORRIBLE COMPANY!! They refuse to give me my dog's records which I need for her new vet, I have documented that I have reached out to them numerous times by email & by phone, always told they will send them & they never do. I have used the Banfield Hospital in Sparks NV for my 3 dogs. While the staff and most doctors were nice and knowledgeable, the Wellness plans and medications are extremely overpriced, even with the so called discount you get with the plan. If your dog is a puppy/kitten, it may be worth it, but I would never recommend it for a senior pet or one with health issues. My oldest dog (13 years old when we signed with them) had to have 2 extractions, both times the charges were over $1000, one of them for 2 teeth only, with the explanation that "unfortunately, we had to pull out the 2 most expensive teeth in his mouth".

Another one of my dogs had pain in one of his front paws. I gave them permission to xray it, but they decided to xray both front paws, without asking permission for that first, with a total charge of $500, for the 2 xrays, while on the plan. Not to mention the fact that you are under contract, so when 2 of the 3 dogs passed away while on the plan, they continue to expect the monthly payment. My suggestion is save your money and find a good family vet. I would never sign up with Banfield, ever again.

I am extremely disappointed about my experience with the Clovis Banfield Pet Hospital on Shaw Ave. I have always had my dog's nails clipped there because she needs them trimmed often and they are usually able to see her fairly quickly. I called yesterday to find out when a good time to bring her in would be and I was told on the phone that this morning there would be vet techs available to do a nail trim and that I didn't need to make an appointment, just come in. I get there today and the lady at the desk tells me that there is a new policy and they won't do trimmings anymore, contrary to exactly what I was told on the phone yesterday. She tells me that the only option I have is to make an appointment with the grooming salon, which uses the nail sanders that my dog can't stand.

I am not sure if there was some policy change so this specific clinic is no longer providing all of the essential services that they always have and that they continue to advertise on their website but frankly, refusing to clip my dog's nails was absolute garbage and this company has lost a long time, loyal customer. Don't waste your time with this fraudulent, unprofessional company.

I've had decent experiences with their hospitals but Banfield's insurance is a complete fraud. They don't cover as nearly as much as other pet insurance providers and then, if your pet passes away, they force you continue paying for the insurance for the remainder of the year. You are being forced to pay for a service that cannot even be provided.

I have the a Banfield plan that includes one dental cleaning a year. I took my rescue dog there as soon as I got him and got his teeth cleaned. After the cleaning I was told that he had periodontal disease and he was put on antibiotics. After 2 rounds of antibiotics, his breath began to smell again and I saw a black hole in one of his tooth. I called Banfield and asked them to just do X-rays and if need be, pull out any bad teeth. They told me they would have to charge me for a dental appointment, plus the X-rays and any extractions that needed to be done. The bill could top $500. I was willing to pay for the X-rays and the extractions but felt they should have consulted with me when they had him under for his teeth cleaning and we could have done it then. Now they want to charge me again plus I still have 9 months of a plan I have to pay for. I just don’t think this is right.

Rather than remove your credit card and/or cancel your account they will ask you to file a **fraud claim** with your bank/credit card issuer in order to remove your credit card and/or cancel your account!? I'm not sure why a business would be so comfortable passing off that level of inconvenience onto their customers. Well let me start by saying my dog is very dog aggressive, don't know why because she is a rescue but she is also very old and has bad arthritis. I stated that very dramatically in setting up the appointment and even called to clarify they had an understanding of the situation. First visit for some kind of flea reaction and needed help, lobby was full of dogs, I was slightly irritated by this might I add, so the doctor came out to the car which was awesome. Got some flea meds and also for my cats, which made my poor dog sick and lethargic.

Second visit, call to verify they know the dog aggression status. Upon arrival the lobby is full WITH even more dogs than before, at this point I'm furious. It's not just stressful for my dog but everyone else's pets as well, this matter should never be overlooked. But alas my dog is there, she is suffering and needs the right meds. We muzzle her, bring her in and they prescribe antibiotics and anti-itch medication. Slight dog fight in the lobby at this point, MY DOG NOT INVOLVED.

With the two new meds which did help clear up her skin might I add they recommended **, and told me I could get it cheaper online so to do that instead of purchasing with them. So I order it online, like I was told, only to find I need a vet prescription for it. Okay no problem, they will contact the vet and get it filled then shipped to me right? Nope! First call the man I speak with says yes they got the fax. They are just waiting for the doc's approval and shouldn't be a problem.. Awesome right? Soon my girl will be flea free and back to her old self right? Nope!!

After 3 days of Allivet sending requests and not receiving any communication I call to see what the hold up is. This is the 3rd call. At this point I'm irritated again. The lady on the phone tells me that they have denied the request because my dog needs to be seen and has not been checked for worms. That they cannot prescribe the meds that they themselves told me to buy from somewhere else until she has had a worm test. To which I respond, "Well why the hell didn't anyone tell me that when we were there the 1st or the 2nd time? Why wasn't this brought to my attention when we were specifically there for FLEA MEDICATION?" Her response was she does not know, she was not there that day.

"So you want me to come in for another 50 dollars and not to mention the highly stressful atmosphere plus the heartworm test that you all should have done the last time I was there?" Her response was, "Well we can't prescribe the meds without the test." Had no exact answer when I asked why this was not mentioned to me the previous visit. So needless to say I will not be returning to that place ever again.

The issue came when my dog was diagnosed with a grade 4 tumor and ultimately needed to be put down. I called Banfield to cancel the Wellness plan he was on and I was forced to pay the remaining 9 months of payments AFTER my dog died. I found this to be nothing more than greedy and cruel, my dog was dead. No additional services were going to be provided but they wanted monthly payments or a lump sum. My 14 lb Pomchi was stepped on by my 50 lb puppy, let out a cry and stopped using her left foot, she was hopping around on one back foot, the next day she was still not using it. I took her to a new Vet clinic in a new shopping center, I called a few clinics and they wanted $150 emergency fee to fit her in or wait a week. I took her in and there was the office visit. They took an xray requiring sedation & immobilization. Left her there, they were going to take a few hours, they called me with cost and offered a "Wellness" program that would save me money (alleging $500). Today without the plan was $1,240. I have had dogs for decades and my usual Doc was out of the country, I know an office visit is $0 for him, I know for $175 I could have gone to an emergency clinic just to see her.

The Xray I know vary from $75 to $250 depending on variants, my usual Doc is $75 for an xray. Blood work is usually $75 to $200, my usual DOc is $75. Meds are usually not much, it was an anti inflammatory, they charged me only $14 which is not much however my bill for the day was $1,280! In my mind I got the office visit # 1. I got the xray #2. I got blood work #3. I got meds #4. That's $320 average cost for each. They said the exam was $60. That means $260 is being added to the 3 remaining items that are already at $320 each, making them $400 each! She said if I paid $700 today that's $580 saved from today's $1,280 if I signed up for their 1 year contract of $78 a month that is $936, add the $700 "discounted" due today = $1636!

I Googled them while waiting and saw I could sign myself up online for $62 a month, not $78 a month that's $192 difference! $62 x 12 months = $744, plus they were wanting $700? Somehow I ended up paying $1,280, the actual costs are like roll the dice! I learned the xray was $470 and the $180 sedation to immobilize, required by law they say, meaning an x ray is $650 minimum! IF my usual Doc was in the country now, Office exam $50, Blood work 100-$200 max, Xray $75, Meds $25. That is $350. My bill was $1280. However it was going to be $1,636 before I enrolled online. I saved $356 enrolling myself.

We used Banfield for 14 years for our two Bedlington Terriers and generally it went well, although we - as many others on here - were very disappointed to find out that we had to continue paying for three more months of the wellness plan on our female dog after she was euthanized due to cancer; our bad for not reading the fine print. A few months later it was time for our 14.5 month old male to have his annual wellness checkup. We browsed the store while he was being checked, and the tech found us and brought him to us afterward, saying everything was fine but that he had a heart murmur and we should call to speak to the vet. So we called. And called. And never got a call back.

A few weeks went by and we noticed that our dog was starting to cough some and breathe/pant heavily. So we called again. And again. And again, each time being told the vet would call us back at the end of the day. He never did. This morning I finally called and explained that I had been waiting for a call back for days and that my dog was coughing and breathing/panting heavily, only to be told the vet would not be in for three more days and would call me back then. I explained that would not be good enough, that my dog clearly needs some kind of care, and that he shouldn't have to go through this.

I also stated that I have zero confidence that the vet will call me back anyway because he hasn't yet. My only option was to schedule another appointment, which wasn't for two more days. I went ahead and took it, but have been trying to get him in to see another vet in the meantime. We are getting another puppy in October and have already decided we will NOT take her to Banfield and instead will find a high quality, local, private veterinary practice for her care.

In attempting to get an estimate for the surgery (and even talking Doctor V twice on the phone), she failed to provide one (knowing he may need this life saving surgery). Her lack of regard was not only shocking, but appalling knowing he needed a life saving surgery.

This location is also unnecessarily caging animals up asking owners to drop them off knowing they will not be tending to, until late in the day. To cage an animal at 8:30 am knowing you will not be able to tend to him, until 3 pm is just plain wrong. Per Mary, they do this not to address the animals' needs one by one, but they do this, to make it easier on staff to get to other things, which again is just plain wrong. Animals are scared locked up. In regards to Doctor V it is obvious that her priority is not the patient first. To disregard a life saving surgery is just plain wrong.

I called Banfield to correct the situation and was told that when I called I apparently did not reach the "correct department"...code for "we don't make it easy for you to cancel" and that since I did not "catch" the monthly billings following my call that I was in some way agreeing to continuing to be billed.

Mind you, I did not even live in the US during the time I was being billed and they have record showing I never even used the service after Jan 2016. Our Scooter had health insurance thru Banfield, we have been with for several years. I had doubts in the past but, wasn’t for sure. This has been primary vet we took him to, and we have had him since he was a couple months, he was 14yrs at time of passing. Scooter was having issues and he has been since Sept 2019. Banfield said it was CT, he had also been diagnosed with a heart murmur, never meds prescribed meds. I took him to another vet, they gave him cough syrup (**). Scooter would do better for a week or so, and then issue would return.

I took Scooter in to Banfield in April for teeth cleaning and checkup, and coughing. They still did nothing or seemed concerned for his cough. I realized he was getting worse, and finally he was having no relieve at all. I took him back to Banfield on 6/8 and I told them they were needing to do something, he was suffering, weak no relief. They did radiographs, 2 microchips found, so a 2nd one had been implanted without our consent, I am sure at some point over the years we paid for it without realizing. Moderate heart enlarged, moderate narrowing of the trachea.

When I picked Scooter up from vet was given a tranquilizers 50mg, and a pill for mucus. The next morning called Banfield back scooter could not even stand up, stumbling and spaced out. I was called back and told to discontinue tranquilizer, until next day and reduce dose to 1/4 every 12hrs. My baby still just coughed, and coughed, it was horrible. Thurs when we woke up, I called them to set up appt to have Scooter put to rest. I was told they were booked up until Wednes, I found a local vet to help me. I had her look at the consultant info sheet to make sure I was doing the right thing. She confirmed that I was.

So, 4 days and $500 later, I had to put my baby to rest. He was stumbling around, couldn’t get comfortable, and so on. The vet at Banfield called Sat, Scooter was gone on Thurs, and said they had got results of a test they sent off and was offering heart med and what we might need to do, I told him that he passed. He told me I had done the right thing, because Scooter's heart was enlarged and pressing on his airway. He realized that from the 6/8 visit, but instead of being upfront and keeping our little boy from suffering, they just kept the total adding up.

In the report I got said he had been chipped 2x, we only had him chipped 1x, said he had tartar build up but we had just had his teeth cleaned in April. So long story short, I think they charge for things that are not done, and keep you paying out the nose on a baby who is headed over the rainbow bridge. I don’t want this to seem like it is about the money, it isn’t. It is about they should have just been honest instead of making our boy suffer.

    1. He had his teeth cleaned 4/21 is /20, but in their report said he had tarter, gingivitis, calculus. Sooo was his teeth cleaned in April or not.
    2. Microchips 2x, we only approved of 1. Scooter was born 3/12/2006 we adopted him in May 2006.
    3. CT was diagnosed in 9/2019, no meds prescribed
    4. Heart murmur no meds prescribed
    5. I was there in April bought Flea prevention, they tried to sell it to me again.

    6. The main thing, the Vet new Monday 6/8 that his heart was enlarged and pressing against his trachea, the best thing was to help Scooter to keep him from suffering, I even asked him when we spoke if he was suffering and he reassured me he wasn't. So he suffered from Mon to Thurs for them to try to sell me another bill of goods.

Shame on them. God Bless my Scooter, and please stay away from Banfield.. PS they will change the price of plan and not tell you also.

He forced us to put Vida back in my car, without oxygen, without any care and Vida was having a very hard time breathing. My daughters and I put our baby Videos back in our car and drove 25 minutes away to get to an emergency hospital. I was crossing all red lights, I was waving for everybody letting me passing through, because I could hear MY VIDA trying so hard for not dying in my car. When we finally arrived at Tampa Bay Specialists, about 15 minutes later the vet came and said that my baby Vida was dead.

Please, I hope all of you that are reading this message, if you care and love your pet do not take to Banfield Hospital. Banfield incompetent vets killed my baby. Vida was very healthy, and in only 5 days because of malpractice, misdiagnosed I lost my dog, my daughter, the love of my life. Also, there is a petition online to take Banfield to court. Please go there is called sign.moveon.org. let's make justice for our member of our family that Banfield killed.

I want to tell you my experience with them so you don't have to go through what I did. I signed up for a wellness plan for my Shih Tzu for one year. The plan itself was ok, but the staff.. Not so good. The plan does not cover emergencies! So read carefully if you are looking into sign up. Anyway, throughout the year, my dog had an anal gland infection. I took him for treatment. After waiting for about an hour, they brought my dog back and explained what they had done it. My dog sat down on the floor and once he got up there was blood all over. I told them that and they said it is normal and gave me a pad to put in the car so he wouldn't bleed in the seats. That is unacceptable. I have never seen a dog hospital that sends its patients bleeding home.

In the next day, my dog was still not feeling well. He was still bleeding everywhere in the house and throwing up. I call them for help but the they said I had to make an appointment and the only spot open was in 2 days. I was mad!! How can you watch your dog bleed and throw up for 2 days? It's insane. I took him to an emergency where he was well taken care of and got well couple days later.

Before I cancel my plan with them (one year contract), my dog was assigned for one last appointment. The appointment was set one week before the end day of the plan. For an unknown reason, they called and moved my appointment for the next day after the plan expired. I said ok and hoped that the doctor's visit would be still covered since the original appointment was made before the plan expired. But guess what? He wasn't covered. Do you know what was the reason? Because his plan expired a day before. WTF!? They only told me that because I asked them after signing in for the visit. Otherwise I would had to pay out of my pocket.

I asked them to cancel the visit then. They said "you already signed, we can't do that" WTFFFF!? I insisted I wouldn't do it so they finally canceled my visit. My conclusion is this: if you love your dog, don't take him there. They do not care about your dog. Worst service, worse staff, and worse plans. You will be better off find a plan that covers emergencies, vaccines, and surgery instead of the plans they offer.

Our dog Charlie was Banfield patient for 8 years. In 2020 she was diagnosed with kidney disease. Banfield vets in Paramus, NJ basically left her to die. They provided IV fluids and after that when we came again 3 months later proposed euthanasia. We refused, switched to real vet, who immediately recommended subq fluids. Unfortunately Charlie's heart gave up. We came to real vet too late. When my husband asked Banfield vet who treated Charlie why she never mentioned sub q fluids when we brought her the first time (even Google reviews suggest sub q fluids as a mandatory measure with kidney disease) she responded: Don't tell me you would apply subq every other day for the rest of Charlie's life. We were stunned. That is the vet we trusted with our pet's life?

Btw Banfield switches vets every few months. We been with Paramus hospital for 30 months and Charlie was seen by 3-5 different vets. Totally disinterested, basically rush through a check up, and if they see any issues they have no capacity how to proceed. I don't know how Banfield can be labeled as pet hospital. More like vaccination, teeth cleaning facility, but anything beyond that is a pure lie. However she, the vet, was very quick to insist on putting Charlie down when we brought her again (we refused). Charlie was fully functional and totally aware for another 2 weeks. Putting a pet down in that condition is a crime. Unfortunately we can't get Charlie back, and these people will still scam people pretending to be a pet hospital. I wish we could shut them down once for good.

My lab very suddenly became ill and I had to rush her to an emergency vet to find that my lab needed surgery. Per the mouth of the Er vet. She needs to get into surgery by tomorrow morning. ”Call your vet as soon as they open I have sent them the her work ups and everything we’ve done” so come the next morning I call our local office. They are supposed to open at 7. I call at 7:05. The phones are still off. I called and called and called and FINALLY got someone at 7:20. So I explain to the tech the situation. Mind you my dog was lethargic refusing food and water. Running a fever and at risk of a HUGE mass rupturing. For anyone who doesn’t know splenic masses are called the silent killer because you typically don’t know about them until they burst. We were lucky to find it before it ruptured and now we were on a time crunch to get it removed.

So I’m on the phone with the tech. She says, "I don’t have any papers for you. But let me call the vet." So she gets back in the phone with me and says "the vet says that we don’t have time today or for the next few days. That your dog will need to wait for a few days till we can get her in to see if she needs surgery." I said ok. So I’m confused. What part of lethargic refusing to eat and drink, drooling, running a fever and LARGE MASS TAKING UP 80% of her abdomen doesn’t make this an emergency? She says, "I’m sorry we have multiple surgeries today." Okay fine. What about other clinics? “Well the vet says that there is one other doctor but that doctor broke her finger so I don’t know, and no other Banfield will be able to get you in today.” I said, "What good does that information do for me?" She said, "I’m so sorry I don’t know what to tell you."

I am a wellness plan member. I pay monthly and my dogs are not dogs that need to be seen often. Overall they are relatively healthy. Since July they have been seen 2 times. And had one round of vaccines. Apparently that cost 1600 per dog. But I’m supposed to be grateful because my wellness plan reduced that to 800. For anyone wondering. My sweet princess did not survive. I ended up having to take her to an emergency clinic over an hour away and make the hard choice to put her to sleep as her situation proved to be far worse than what was originally thought. I do not blame her death on banfield. However, I am NOT happy with the lack of support that I received for my critical dog. Not to mention that every time I call to get an appointment I am told I have to wait a week + out. They don’t seem to really care. The techs and vets at our clinic lack good bedside manner.

When I called to cancel my since lost baby’s plan. I was told that I still Owed them $205 for 2 exams, a blood test and some vaccines. Since last July (2019) I found out that banfield only allows a specific amount of wellness plan members a week so they don’t have to eat the cost of treatment. I do not believe that banfield really has the best intentions for animals and their parents. I have since canceled my plan for both of my girls. I am being forced to pay the remaining amounts till this July. Which I don’t agree that I should have to pay the remaining balance for services rendered on my dog that I lost. I’ve already paid 600 for both dogs.

I don’t and will not ever trust another banfield clinic again. Only advice I can give you is to serious serious research before deciding on a vet for your fur kids. Just like you would a doctor for your real kids Or yourself. These are people we should be able to trust with their lives and to help us make decisions to best treat them when things happen. Banfield is not that.

I stopped going to Banfield years ago. I had the “Wellness Plan” and took my Pug, Lola, in for teeth cleaning. They took her breathing tube out too early and she had to be revived 2x! I took her recently due to COVID my regular vet is closed. They could get her in and have some medical records from past visits. Lola had a lesion on her paw. Also wanted ears checked for infection. Paw is primary for visit. When I got Lola back in my car, her paw was still bloody and when I got home I looked at paperwork and no mention of paw, except for billing, all Info for ears. Info on medication for ears. No diagnosis of paw, no info on at home care for paw, no info of medication for paw and side effects. Lola can’t have vaccines. She has allergic reaction to medications.

They had this info in her file from her visits years ago and I also stated that this visit. I called and asked them to email the diagnosis on her paw and info on her medication because nothing was included in paperwork they sent home. I was told they can’t email me. They can only fax. The girl then began reading the info to me. I also asked if they cleaned her ears. They weren’t wet when we got home. She said no. They didn’t even give her a flush!!! I asked if I should put the medicine in dirty ears?!?! She said yes. Wow!!!! I flushed her ears at home and was able to start her medicine the following day. I would not take my pet to Banfield. They killed my pug and had to revive her and years later, she had a horrible visit.

She gave me some gel to put on my cat ear to make him to eat food. Due to her misdiagnosis, my cat was died soon. I stopped to continue making monthly payment because my cat already passed away. No need to visit vet and because the staff did not tell me in advance if my cat passed away, I need to make payment. They tried to steal money from my credit card. But just recently about 3 months ago I brought in my Yorkie Ruby and enrolled her to the wellness plan. Just last Weekend she had an accident and I called them to bring her in but they couldn’t see her That day. They were booked. They sent me to another Banfield. They Couldn’t do anything for her so they Said to take her to 24 hour animal hospital. Unfortunately she had to be put to sleep. I was so devastated.

I then called Banfields to let them know so that I wouldn’t get reminders to schedule appointments for her. They did show some sympathy but to my surprise they said I still had to pay for the rest of the year. With my Ruby gone, the pandemic going on, I couldn’t feel any worse. I just accept I would pay the rest of the year. I’m still mourning and obviously disappointed but I can’t say I wouldn’t bring another pet here. This experience would be rated zero if they had zero.

When I got there they told me that he was due for shot as well so they took him in the back to give him shots and do blood work. When he was done they brought him back into the room and told me was healthy. Only thing was his glucose was above normal. The day after he was fine, running around, playing with the toys as usual.

Then then the weekend got here and he started to not act like himself. Then Sunday came. He started to just lay around. Would eat or drink which was unusual because he was known for a big eater. So Monday comes. I take him to his vet to see what was going on and they tell me his bladder was blocked and that I need to get him to the emergency vet.

So I took him there and it was too late. He was already too far gone and I had to put my baby down. He was only 2yrs old. The day after I had finally been able to look at the blood work and there was more than just his glucose that was above normal. He had like 6 other things above normal that they didn't explain anything. It just shook me cuz here it is a 2yr old cat. They tell me is healthy and literally 4 days after his appointment he's gone. I will never take any of my animals to this vet ever again and being that he's gone cuz I had him on a wellness plan I'm stuck paying that plan for the next year knowing they're the ones that probably killed my cat.

I don't write reviews really at all. I just want to get the word out there that you should not sign up a plan with this place. We had our dogs signed up for a wellness plan at Ban field in Centennial, CO on University Blvd. The one vet just cares about trying to upsell you things your dog does not even need. We had a few problems there. First they took blood tests on our dog and she said she was concerned that it was cancer so we should do additional testing (which isn't included with the plan). We heard the word cancer so we set up another appointment to get it checked out. The vet who suggested this was suppose to do the visit we set up but ended up having to reschedule with another vet.

When we got in there with the different vet we explained what the other vet said was going on and he looked at us like we were crazy. He said all of the blood levels and cell count looked fine and no additional testing needed to be done. He didn't know why the vet before would even say that. That same vet who tried making that initial diagnosis charged us $32 for a nail trim because she said they needed 3 people to hold my dog down so it cost more. Are you serious? $32 for a nail trim? Should have gotten a 30 minute massage added with that.

The next problem was a mast cell tumor that they did a needle test and said that nothing was wrong with it and we didn't need to remove it. After all the problems we had going on with this place we decided to look for another vet. That vet suggested we remove the mast cell tumor and get it tested since it looked really bad. Once we get the results back we find out it is a very high grade tumor which was cancer. We canceled our wellness plan with Banfield and they tried saying it would cost us over $500 to cancel early. I told them that, "We don't trust you guys so why would we pay." Their response was ok it will just go to collections. Don't trust this place and don't pay them a dollar.

We are a part over their so called wellness plan and take our dogs to every annual check up. 2 years ago I was told that one of my pets might have a prostate problem. I discussed with the Vet the seriousness of it and they said that it was not too serious and they would keep an eye on it. Fast forward to the next year I take my pets in this last Oct and I am told that my other dog has a tumor on one of his testicles and that we "NEEDED TO HAVE THEM REMOVED." Remember this.... I asked the Dr. if it needed to be done right away. They said within the next 6 months. I set up a day to have this done and they went over how much and they suggested we pay extra to have the Tumor checked to see if it was cancer.

Remind you my dog is 7 and 1/2 years old and this was something we were not looking at doing ever, but we did not want the our dog to suffer. We had the procedure done and paid almost 700 dollars. When we got the result back a week later we were told that there was no Tumor. Banfield lies to their patient's owners to have procedures done that are not needed and STEALS money from people that pay their BULL ** monthly fee for a wellness plan which baits you to bring your dog in for a wellness check but the only wellness that is going on here is padding this facility's pockets with your hard earned money monthly for something that does nothing.

I am currently on hold with the Banfield Corporate office to cancel the wellness plan because they can sign you up at the vet but can't cancel. On Hold for 25 mins as I type this. Not only do I feel robbed but I feel like my dog was taken advantage of by a corporate business. My dog is a part of my family and deserves better treatment. I tried to cancel but they claim that I owe them for the duration of the contract. When I signed up 12 years ago this was not the case and my contract continued to renew. I was never properly informed of the new changes. Whenever I asked the people in the veterinary office I was told that I could switch my plan at any point. This is not true. Please be aware that your contract runs for a year and you absolutely can not downgrade or cancel. I now must pay $44/month for a service that I can’t use. It seems to me that Banfield is in breach of their contract since they are unable to fulfill their commitment to me. Lesson learned. I hope I can save someone else from paying for something that they are unable to use.

Also, Banfield is not necessarily less expensive. I recently found a Banfield 50 miles from my location and asked what they would charge for an ultrasound. I was quoted a price well over $500. The local veterinarian quoted $325. So the take away here is shop around when you need expensive services. Banfield might not be the least expensive. Good luck!

Banfield is a pet hospital corporation in franchised but they seem not to care killing all these trees for printing 20-30 pages of medical records for a vaccination record. Within last 5 years, all the associates look guilty to print all these papers for unnecessary reasons because their system doesn’t allow them to print one by one pages or send it electronically to the clients either.

But, Banfield’s representatives informed us online (copies and pasted) how much the company is losing money on their wellness programs so then they charge the owners for extra fees on the same billing date for “a late fee” or “NSF” either your cards on file or not actively based on the very first card It was used to sign up for the membership many years ago. I wish there are a bit more educated people work in the financial management team to cut off some costs for your paper trails vs. of over, unfair and unethical charging its long term members and clients.

Let me start by saying the veterinary care at the Santee, CA Banfield pet hospital is top notch. However, the way they represent the payment plan is unethical & misleading. After talking with a representative from the national office, I was shown that what they told me at the office does not match up with what is really involved. The only thing I can figure is that the people at the Santee location either are being intentionally misleading or are truly ignorant about what the payment policy includes. I’m believing they are erring on the side of ignorance. Either way, you get stuck paying for more than originally represented.

If you have a chronically ill pet that requires a lot of medical care, it may be helpful for you to get the plan. But for the average pet owner of a healthy pet, it’s definitely not worth it. Banfield inflates their prices by a large margin compared to other vet services in the area. Granted, it’s their business & they’re allowed to do so. I just wish they’d be more honest & upfront about it without using pressure tactics to get people to sign up for a policy that may do more damage than good. So make sure you talk to a National representative before signing up so you have all the facts needed to make an educated decision. The local vet staff here misrepresented the policy badly.

When she got home I explained what it actually covered vs what they said it covered and she was embarrassed that she bought it. I told her not to be embarrassed and that if we hadn't been pet owners for over 30 years it may have been a good thing.

When someone did get on the phone I was told because it was within four days I had to call the hospital directly, which was what I had done in the first place.

When I called they hospital they said, "Oh, we misunderstood, your daughter has to come in with proof of age before we can cancel it." So I took her in right after school. They canceled it and said she owed $2. and I said, "Isn't she getting a refund, and they said, "Oh, it's only $2." I said he had a coupon for a free visit and they said, "Oh, well, we will adjust the $2." They NEVER credited her account. I understand that I paid for the insurance monthly but to explain to me that I owe them money after the pet has passed Until the contract is completed. The worst part about it is that I had to go to another doctor's hospital within my community to take care of my pet because of the missed diagnosis that Banfield explained to me and tried to pass the medical care to another pet center.

We went to what we thought was the 24 hour vet. Instead we pulled up to Plainfield Veterinary clinic. They were closed but still let us in. We had NEVER been there before but they knew our boy was in trouble. They stayed for 2 hours until we said goodbye to our boy.

This Banfield was so ignorant. I told the practice manager that I will be removing our other dog and they will never see us or get another cent from us. Go to Plainfield veterinary clinic on route 59. They actually care about your animals, and love them like they're their own. Never go to Banfield in Joliet/Plainfield. You're just another number to them.

I am very disappointed and very angry at my dog's consultation yesterday Raymond ** at Banfield Hospital located at 26277 US Hwy 19 N, Clearwater, FL 33761. He should have done dental cleaning and it didn't work because he ate a tiny portion of his food in the morning and they were unable to perform the dental procedure. Which is good, but the poor dog has anxiety and instead calling me, they called my husband who lives in NH and the dog was there barking and scratching the metal box for more than 7 hours and he got hurt about to bleed. I was clear when I asked to call, confirming the phone number and he couldn't be awake and alone.

They tried to get me out of the hospital, I complained and the receptionist gave me antibiotic ointment to apply to his paws. I don't understand why you keep a team or have people who are there just for the money. The dog was out of water, he didn't get any potty time and I really know why, when we got home, I accompanied him and he pooped and couldn't stop drinking water for the rest of the day, at night and this morning.

So my question is, if I have a plan at a pet hospital that is supposed to care for the animals and provide quality and attentive service to their fur customers, why do their doctors and staff allow this type of episode to happen with these innocent creatures. I am completely pissed off right now, I took my son to health care and came home, wasting hours of work and Raymond had this horrible treatment.

I have to move to another location, I will do a review on the site to prevent people about this type of care and bad experience and if my son, who cannot express it for himself. If an infection or can't walk like it is now, he is having trouble getting up and walking, due to the negligence of his unprofessional team, I will sue this entire organization and this location in Clearwater in particular Dr. ** and her team should not pretend to love pets when they are there just for the money. Arguing, worried and deeply disappointed with this Banfield's way of providing health and care services.
