I will never take my pets to another Banfield pet hospital. We are a part over their so called wellness plan and take our dogs to every annual check up. 2 years ago I was told that one of my pets might have a prostate problem. I discussed with the Vet the seriousness of it and they said that it was not too serious and they would keep an eye on it. Fast forward to the next year I take my pets in this last Oct and I am told that my other dog has a tumor on one of his testicles and that we "NEEDED TO HAVE THEM REMOVED." Remember this.... I asked the Dr. if it needed to be done right away. They said within the next 6 months. I set up a day to have this done and they went over how much and they suggested we pay extra to have the Tumor checked to see if it was cancer.
Remind you my dog is 7 and 1/2 years old and this was something we were not looking at doing ever, but we did not want the our dog to suffer. We had the procedure done and paid almost 700 dollars. When we got the result back a week later we were told that there was no Tumor. Banfield lies to their patient's owners to have procedures done that are not needed and STEALS money from people that pay their BULL ** monthly fee for a wellness plan which baits you to bring your dog in for a wellness check but the only wellness that is going on here is padding this facility's pockets with your hard earned money monthly for something that does nothing.
I am currently on hold with the Banfield Corporate office to cancel the wellness plan because they can sign you up at the vet but can't cancel. On Hold for 25 mins as I type this. Not only do I feel robbed but I feel like my dog was taken advantage of by a corporate business. My dog is a part of my family and deserves better treatment. STOP GOING TO THESE CORPORATE AND SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL VET AND HUMANE SOCIETY.

When I signed up with Banfield I was living in my home regularly. Now that I am retired and traveling in my RV I am not able to find a Banfield close enough to use their services. I tried to cancel but they claim that I owe them for the duration of the contract. When I signed up 12 years ago this was not the case and my contract continued to renew. I was never properly informed of the new changes. Whenever I asked the people in the veterinary office I was told that I could switch my plan at any point. This is not true. Please be aware that your contract runs for a year and you absolutely can not downgrade or cancel. I now must pay $44/month for a service that I can’t use. It seems to me that Banfield is in breach of their contract since they are unable to fulfill their commitment to me. Lesson learned. I hope I can save someone else from paying for something that they are unable to use.
Also, Banfield is not necessarily less expensive. I recently found a Banfield 50 miles from my location and asked what they would charge for an ultrasound. I was quoted a price well over $500. The local veterinarian quoted $325. So the take away here is shop around when you need expensive services. Banfield might not be the least expensive. Good luck!

Our dog has been a Banfield's wellness member for over 5 years. We finally left not only the wellness program but also the hospital itself because of their poor financial management as well the billing department. Banfield is a pet hospital corporation in franchised but they seem not to care killing all these trees for printing 20-30 pages of medical records for a vaccination record. Within last 5 years, all the associates look guilty to print all these papers for unnecessary reasons because their system doesn’t allow them to print one by one pages or send it electronically to the clients either.
But, Banfield’s representatives informed us online (copies and pasted) how much the company is losing money on their wellness programs so then they charge the owners for extra fees on the same billing date for “a late fee” or “NSF” either your cards on file or not actively based on the very first card It was used to sign up for the membership many years ago. I wish there are a bit more educated people work in the financial management team to cut off some costs for your paper trails vs. of over, unfair and unethical charging its long term members and clients.

Took in my husky and lab mix dogs had their teeth cleaned and some xrays on their hips and legs. Got them back home and they would not eat or drink for several days. Was reassured by repeated phone calls to their office that they would be ok. Finally got a call back from them and was told to bring them in. After close to $1,500 later was told to give them some antibiotics that they prescribed to me. One has just about recovered but still have one real sick not eating or drinking water. Will never take them back to Banfield

Let me start by saying the veterinary care at the Santee, CA Banfield pet hospital is top notch. However, the way they represent the payment plan is unethical & misleading. After talking with a representative from the national office, I was shown that what they told me at the office does not match up with what is really involved. The only thing I can figure is that the people at the Santee location either are being intentionally misleading or are truly ignorant about what the payment policy includes. I’m believing they are erring on the side of ignorance. Either way, you get stuck paying for more than originally represented.
If you have a chronically ill pet that requires a lot of medical care, it may be helpful for you to get the plan. But for the average pet owner of a healthy pet, it’s definitely not worth it. Banfield inflates their prices by a large margin compared to other vet services in the area. Granted, it’s their business & they’re allowed to do so. I just wish they’d be more honest & upfront about it without using pressure tactics to get people to sign up for a policy that may do more damage than good. So make sure you talk to a National representative before signing up so you have all the facts needed to make an educated decision. The local vet staff here misrepresented the policy badly.

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR WELLNESS PLAN unless you are prepared to be hustled by their auto renewal every year, even if you don't use it. Also if you don't catch it, it will automatically renew. They will not notify you. There is also no way to get out of it unless you pay the remaining payments. BEWARE, they are a multi million dollar company that like to target honest people like this.

My daughter got her first pet. She is 17. She is responsible for paying for the cat and the first thing she did was find a coupon for a free vet visit at Banfield. She took the cat in for the exam and they talked her into signing the pet wellness contract. When she got home I explained what it actually covered vs what they said it covered and she was embarrassed that she bought it. I told her not to be embarrassed and that if we hadn't been pet owners for over 30 years it may have been a good thing.
I immediately called the number to cancel it, that day, and they said I had to call the 800#. I called and was on hold for over a half an hour so I pressed the button and requested they call me back. I did this another time and then I just waited on hold for over an hour. When someone did get on the phone I was told because it was within four days I had to call the hospital directly, which was what I had done in the first place.
When I called they hospital they said, "Oh, we misunderstood, your daughter has to come in with proof of age before we can cancel it." So I took her in right after school. They canceled it and said she owed $2. and I said, "Isn't she getting a refund, and they said, "Oh, it's only $2." I said he had a coupon for a free visit and they said, "Oh, well, we will adjust the $2." They NEVER credited her account. I just called today and said that she won't get a credit because she enrolled in the wellness plan and the cost of the office visit exceeds the enrollment fee and the first month's fee. TOTAL SCAM that PREYS ON MINORS.

Our beloved Bonita passed away today January 30, 2020. I called the office of Banfield pet care. I explain to them that our pet had just passed away this morning. They’re telling me that I can’t cancel the insurance for the pet because it doesn’t expire till August of this year. They have no heart for the people that have a family member like a pet. They tell me I owe them the difference last year. In August 2019 after several trips to the office to find out what the lump Her right shoulder the size of a baseball they tell me it’s benign. I can see another doctor and discuss with the surgeon for removal. I called the office to make an appointment. They tell me the doctor I want is not her doctor so they can’t pass me through so I have to call back and ask for my doctors and he gets me in touch with the surgeon. She tells me that she can’t operate but I need to go to a hospital somewhere else in Lee County and I’ll be maybe $2500.
I don’t understand how I pay the insurance and they’re soliciting me to go to other places for my pet's needs so I choose to go to another hospital Independent from Banfield. They operate and they tell me that it’s cancer that they found December 5, 2019. Today it’s January 30, 2020. Bonita Passed away no thanks to the misguided abuse that Banfield feels to take care of the animals that they say they so well protect. One star is not enough to explain the loss of a pet. I understand that I paid for the insurance monthly but to explain to me that I owe them money after the pet has passed Until the contract is completed. The worst part about it is that I had to go to another doctor's hospital within my community to take care of my pet because of the missed diagnosis that Banfield explained to me and tried to pass the medical care to another pet center.
I don’t understand what you pay for. It’s called insurance for your pet. They are very poor thinkers and what they do. I would never recommend or knowingly have a friend go to Banfield without knowing their pet may be misdiagnosed because of their lack of empathy They have shown my family for the loss of our family member.

Took my sick cat to the Matthews, NC Banfield pet hospital. She was sick, not eating or walking. They only was interested in giving her a rabies shot and other things that first time pet visits. She needed care but didn't get it but I didn't know at the time. I just waited to see if she gets better but she got worst. Went to a real pet hospital and they told me everything that was wrong with her. Too late she died. Banfield is not a hospital. It's just a advertising name. Worst place ever. Good for health pets only.

They certainly don’t deserve the star I gave them. I would much rather give them -10 stars. RUN FAR WAY FROM THIS PLACE. I would not recommend this place to ANYONE! We've been bringing our two dogs here for 11 1/2 years. I called Tuesday evening at 6:50 and asked if we could rush in because we knew our dog was dying. I was told, "No, doctor leaves at 7." We went to what we thought was the 24 hour vet. Instead we pulled up to Plainfield Veterinary clinic. They were closed but still let us in. We had NEVER been there before but they knew our boy was in trouble. They stayed for 2 hours until we said goodbye to our boy.
This Banfield was so ignorant. I told the practice manager that I will be removing our other dog and they will never see us or get another cent from us. Go to Plainfield veterinary clinic on route 59. They actually care about your animals, and love them like they're their own. Never go to Banfield in Joliet/Plainfield. You're just another number to them.

I am very disappointed and very angry at my dog's consultation yesterday Raymond ** at Banfield Hospital located at 26277 US Hwy 19 N, Clearwater, FL 33761. He should have done dental cleaning and it didn't work because he ate a tiny portion of his food in the morning and they were unable to perform the dental procedure. Which is good, but the poor dog has anxiety and instead calling me, they called my husband who lives in NH and the dog was there barking and scratching the metal box for more than 7 hours and he got hurt about to bleed. I was clear when I asked to call, confirming the phone number and he couldn't be awake and alone.
They tried to get me out of the hospital, I complained and the receptionist gave me antibiotic ointment to apply to his paws. I don't understand why you keep a team or have people who are there just for the money. The dog was out of water, he didn't get any potty time and I really know why, when we got home, I accompanied him and he pooped and couldn't stop drinking water for the rest of the day, at night and this morning.
So my question is, if I have a plan at a pet hospital that is supposed to care for the animals and provide quality and attentive service to their fur customers, why do their doctors and staff allow this type of episode to happen with these innocent creatures. I am completely pissed off right now, I took my son to health care and came home, wasting hours of work and Raymond had this horrible treatment.
I have to move to another location, I will do a review on the site to prevent people about this type of care and bad experience and if my son, who cannot express it for himself. If an infection or can't walk like it is now, he is having trouble getting up and walking, due to the negligence of his unprofessional team, I will sue this entire organization and this location in Clearwater in particular Dr. ** and her team should not pretend to love pets when they are there just for the money. Arguing, worried and deeply disappointed with this Banfield's way of providing health and care services.

PetSmart and Banfield Pet Hospital are HORRIBLE! They are extremely overpriced and totally deceptive! They told me that my "free exam" would come to $246 with all the vaccines and deworming provided for our new pup. That is a lot, but I told them that was fine at the time. They then talked me into their "wellness plan" that would be monthly charges but provide vet services for a year. I agreed but, after looking into their reviews and extremely high prices, I decided to cancel. I was within the 4 day no penalty cancellation period. I understood that I would have to pay for the first visit services, which was fine. When I finally got through to someone to cancel, I was told that the price for services rendered was $360!! Over $100 more than was quoted to me at the time of service.
The customer service people I dealt with were terrible and rude when they found out I was cancelling and basically said it was not their problem that I was being completely overcharged. I will NEVER do business with them again and I am glad I found out how terrible they are now before giving them any more money. I will never go to Banfield or even PetSmart again and I have been a customer for over a decade.

My dog was not acting like her normal self one morning and I was worried. She would not eat or drink, was very lethargic. I immediately called and wanted them to see her ASAP and they told me they were too busy. It was the day before Christmas eve and I said, "Please can you take her if I drop her off" and they agreed they would look at her quick and give me a call to let me know about their assessment of her. I got the call and she said everything sounded great and her blood work showed high that they thought was pancreatitis. I said, "Uh no. What's the treatment and what can we do." She said she was going to run another test that would let me know for sure it was pancreatitis.
She called and said it was a faint positive but that after her exam she was going to give her nausea meds and antibiotic. She sent us home with special dog food. We took her home and shortly after she started acting very sleepy and still not eating. Slowly as the night went on she started to seem very uncomfortable but I knew the vet assured me she would be better in a day or two after the meds. She said pancreatitis is painful. These symptoms are normal. So I watched her all night and noticed her breathing got bad and she was whining. I immediately picked her up and was rushing her to the emergency vet when I noticed blood coming out of her mouth and nose. I was absolutely scared to death.
I arrived and they rushed her back and called me back and the vet said, "I'm sorry mam. There is no easy way to tell you this but your dog is dying from congestive heart failure." I could not believe it. I told them of her diagnosis and they were puzzled because they said with 100% certainty she did not have pancreatitis and this condition would have been noticeable as soon as she was examined and could have received emergency treatment right away and possibly saved her life. I was so hurt. Here was this vet I trusted. 4 yrs doing vaccines and 6 month checkups and teeth cleanings and yearly ekgs to monitor her heart murmur. She had been on special low sodium diet for years.
We did everything right as owners and when we brought her to them so desperately needing help they failed her. She was there 5 hrs. How could they not have known. I am not out for revenge or to hurt their company. I want to make sure this never happens again to anyone. Please trust your gut. If you know something is wrong go straight to the emergency vet and not to Banfield. Nobody should ever have to lose a pet due to banfield's ignorance. Please be warned to know this could happen to your pet. They have a vet working who is very underqualified and negligent. Thank you for reading my story.

I got my cat back in September 2018. I wanted to get him neutered so I went to Banfield as they were conveniently located to my house. The process went fine except for their wellness plans, which, as I have learned from first-hand experience, are essentially a means to lock customers into on-going subscription payments without the customers being aware. I don't like debt so I was willing to pay upfront, however, I was convinced by the service gal that it made sense to do monthly installments as I would not be charged interest plus I would be able to get my credit card points. Had I known that what I was signing would involuntarily sign me up for a renewable service plan, I would have never agreed to the monthly installments and stuck with paying the full price upfront.
Banfield didn't even send me any sort of notification that I was being auto-renewed, just decided to charge my credit card. Had it not been for my due diligence in checking my CC statement, I would have must likely not know about these charges for some time, an opportunity that I think Banfield uses to take advantage of other unsuspecting victims/customers.
The experience got worse when I tried contacting Banfield customer support, talk about a system designed to get you to quit before you actually receive any service! After waiting on hold for over 2 hours, I was able to finally speak to someone about my bill, they were not very friendly or helpful. Both people I spoke to were adamant that because I signed a contract, with a bunch of small print, I was responsible for paying for the renewed subscription. Upon requesting a refund, I was told no because of this contract. This is when I pointed out contract law, when summarized means that all parties entering an agreement must all be knowledgeable and agree upon a given contract for said contract to be valid. You can't hide behind a contract when you purposely hide 'fine print' so you can validate future payments that weren't agreed upon! Shame on Banfield for such ugly billing practices!

My sweet dog Charity had a comprehensive physical 10/5/19 with her annual vaccinations. We enrolled in the wellness plan along with her Trifexsis. She passed with a clean bill of health. Scheduled dental cleaning for 11/11/19, lab work came back with a mildly elevated ALT (liver enzyme). She could not have the cleaning but with a prescription for Denamarin to treat the elevation. The extra lab and prescription was not covered so cost her bill was 189.00. The weekend of 12/15/19, she begin to act tired and lost her appetite.
Monday December 16 she was admitted to another veterinary emergency hospital ICU for two days where we learned she had liver, kidney, adrenal gland, enlarged kidney, lung nodules, and many other enlarged lymph nodes. I had to watch my poor girl suffer and be put to sleep. I am devastated. I feel that she was not diagnosed and a complete failure to evaluate her true condition. If a human was treated this ineptly with a lack of diagnosis, malpractice could be sued. The icing on the cake is corporate Banfield will not cancel her wellness plan until October 2020. Buyer Beware.

I started at Banfield vet with my dog was 11 weeks old. I never had any issues with my dog's health until she turned 13. She developed what looked to be a fatty tumor on her side. I continually ask the doctor for her opinion as to what she thought it was. I was told that it was cancer. Would I consider chemotherapy at this stage of her life? My answer was always no.
After six months this fatty tumor grew to the size of a grapefruit and I took the dog back again. This time I decided to have a biopsy as my dog was having trouble getting up and the cyst became very hard. The cyst came back as being cancer. It wasn’t until this time that I was given an option that the dog could have surgery. Had I’ve been told in the beginning that the cyst could be cut out safely and there were other options I would’ve done this earlier and my dog's life or stages of cancer. I have since gone to a local veterinarian who did amazing job removing the cyst. My dog is taking some pain medicine that is supposed to help decrease the cancer cells. I do not feel that Banfield provided me with all my options. Unfortunately I am stuck in their payment plan but will not be utilizing them as my vet any longer.

The pet wellness monthly plan is a great option for proactive pet owners. This plan is not for critical illnesses or emergencies. What I love about this plan is knowing what my proactive spend is per month for shots, proactive meds such as heartworm meds, flea/tick prevention. It helps you keep track of your pet's health, growth, etc. The portal summarizes your pet's health. I love it! Emergencies, blood and urine tests are in addition to the plan. Read the plan thoroughly and ask questions. I highly recommend this plan to any puppy/dog owner. It's a great proactive monthly plan. No different than "wellchild visits".

They cleaned my dog's property to return those items back to me. That evening I returned, this individual brought out all the wrong things but it was her compassion which stood out, trying to comfort me, even made an attempt to remember my other dog (priceless). I did not have the heart to tell her the errors. I felt her intention was sincere. The next day I returned to return their property and gather my correct belongings. Addressed and corrected accordingly. Even donated my dog's black frame cot which I felt would go for better use at the hospital. My overall experience 14-15 Dec 2019 was outstanding. The experience was upsetting and sad. The worst than anything that I have ever come across. I called the local Banfield due to my dog being sick. I was told I missed the last two payments on my well care plan. I paid it up to date and was told that my plan was the best. I called back the store to see my pet as she was ill. They got her right in. Once they had her they told me that she needed all these tests and the tests were going to cost $786.00. I explained that I had insurance / Wellness Plan. The Doctor stated, "Yeah I know but these test are not covered," that I had already used my testing and x-rays for the year.
Unfortunately my pet was very ill so I picked her back up and brought her to another local vet where they charged me $289.00 for the same tests and x-rays that banfield was going to do. How is that fair??? I will NEVER!!! take my pet there again and I suggest you all find other Vets to do business with. Also the Dr’s there change like the weather. Very sad experience.. We have never missed a medication, we feed them the exact food that the vets suggest and we do the "comprehensive", exams every 6 months. The worst part is that we took my little girl in for comprehensive exam and then, exactly one week later, she was dead. She did because there was a mass on her spleen that the vet found by doing the exact same blood work that was “supposedly” done one week earlier. How could possibly have been missed by the very vet that has treated her for at least 6 years? Like so many others, we had Banfield’s pet insurance on our three dogs. We never miss their shots. Have taken them for numerous in between office visits. We’ve purchased expensive eye drops, ear drops, shampoo, heart worm prevention meds and so on. One of our dogs recently became ill. After only approximately three weeks and recommending a couple meds, one of which was expensive and hard to find, several trips back for draining the fluid off his lungs, our previously healthy dog died Tuesday, November 12th, 2019.
We called to cancel the insurance and were told we must continue our monthly payments until May 2020. This was supposedly based on the cost of our dogs recent office visits which one I paid over $200.00 for the “care” he received. I want out of this trap! I’ve paid this monthly cost for three dogs going back to over 15 years ago when we setup our first plan for our oldest baby, then five years ago for our second baby, and four years ago for our baby that just passed away. Please warn others about this trap!! Unlimited office visits apparently is misleading!

They said leave him here and she would fix him. 3 hours later the called her and said he died. I will never take my gsd or anything there plus I'm boycotting PetSmart.

I was paying for the monthly wellness plan for my pet. The facility REFUSED to see my dog indicating she had a compromised immune system and shouldn't be subjected to potential illness from walking through PetSmart. Ok.... I get it but what good does it do me if she can't be seen? Can't someone let us in a back entrance or make some sort of accommodations?
I indicated that my dog would not take her Interceptor medication regardless of my attempts to mask the flavor, crush it, put it in steak and ground beef, etc. They refused to switch to another med! She would take HeartGuard fine but they wouldn't switch her to it because they don't carry it. They'd rather put my dog at risk than have to write me a prescription to get a med elsewhere!
Last straw.. finally got my dog in after a few months of not being able to be seen. Asked them to clip my dog's nails. Tech came back indicating that my dog was lunging and aggressive to the vet. I was shocked. Come to find out after walking her out of the facility that they had cut 2 of her nails so short she was bleeding everywhere. They said nothing about it. I stopped paying for the wellness plan with 2 months left based on the issues I had. Note that I had to take my dog to an emergency vet twice when Banfield refused to see her.... That is not cheap! Now they are taking me to collections! Terrible customer service and unwilling to work on my pet's well-being.

Forced to Pay Fees After Membership Cancellation. The title pretty much explains itself. I had my dog on the Wellness plan for 5 years and decided to cancel it because I heard from several co-workers of mine that the Banfield Wellness Plan was just a hoax, and that the Vets will shoot your dogs up with different vaccinations, etc that they don’t even NEED!!! Realistically, you only need to take your dog to the vet twice a year. With Banfield, it seemed they wanted my perfectly healthy dog to come in about every 2-3 months for shots. I didn’t question it until I learned that what they were doing was unnecessary.
I cancelled my plan 6 months ago, and I haven’t paid a dime to them since bc I haven’t taken my dog back to them. Now I’m forced to pay approximately $100 (much of which are late fees) for services that my dog didn’t even get, all because they make it to where you have to pay ALL of your annual dues even if you cancel the membership. Complete BS. Now I’m going with a local vet clinic, and I recommend everyone else to do the same.

The Banfield near our house used this wellness plan as an excuse to provide many unnecessary procedures on young healthy pets, then refused to stop the contract, with the person yelling at me, threatening to send collections after us if we do not pay, and then hanging up on me. The Vets themselves may be ok and friendly, but the business model is one of hard sell, exploitation, and emotional coercion.

They are deceptive and only care about money. Their vets tend to be under qualified. They took money out of my bank account, $55 to be exact, every month for the off chance that I might bring my dog in for something. When you do bring your dog in, whether they asked you to or not, they will still charge you extra money for the visit. It could be upwards of hundreds of dollars. What is the point of paying a monthly fee again? Do not trust. Total scam.
I changed my debit card info so they could not grab my money every month and they started harassing me via emails phone calls and letters because they wanted their precious money from me. I called corporate to officially cancel the plan and they condescendingly said I still owe $600 for the rest of the plan (for literally nothing) and an additional $430 because my dog had his teeth cleaned 6 months ago. You'd think paying $55 a month for no reason would cover a teeth cleaning. You'd think they'd tell you about the $430 dollar charge. But they don't. Screw this place.

They misinform you to get into the plan and when you want to cancel they charge you extra telling you that you only had 4 days to cancel. Something they don't inform you when you're opening the plan. When you call they don't answer or say they will call you back. Just to wait until those 4 days are up. Conveniently they never show your phone calls???? Don't recommend their plans. There are others a lot cheaper for and better care.

This is the worst plan on the market. It is fine if you just want to do the basic shots, etc...but you could get that done less expensively elsewhere. Every time you take your pet in, they will add something that costs $50-100 more. If you ever need urgent care, they will not help you. You then have to take your pet to another vet and pay their prices because this "insurance" only works at Banfield locations that won't help you in urgent situations. I tried to cancel this before their automatic renewal kicked in and they wouldn't cancel it, continued to charge my card to the point that I had to cancel my card and have a new one reissued, at which point they started harassing me because they could no longer steal from me. Then they started threatening me with collections agents and ruining my credit because they couldn't steal from me. Worst place ever!!!! Do not trust them at all.

Do Not Bring Your Pet Here. I relied on them in treating my older dog and they minimized the condition, did not treat him with the prescription medication required to save him. I relied on them as "veterinary professionals" to provide the right treatment and proper medicine, which would have been critical to his survival of an enlarged heart and collapsed trachea. Regardless, a day later after Banfield performed over $800 in services my dog was in critical condition, but it was too late and had to be euthanized as all his Vital signs were dire. Banfield is a High Volume "Wellness Mill". They are understaffed and overworked.
Try getting through on the phone from 7am - 12 noon (Yonkers facility) Their corporate governance board were not concerned as I tried several times to talk to a higher up in Vancouver Washington (Corporate Offices). It's been over a week since my pet expired but no response from their corporate office. They seem to be focused on continued Expansion & Volume in a race to open more than their 1000 facilities. Banfield is focused on high Volume and more like a "Treatment "Mill" than a Pet Hospital. My dog paid with his life and had to suffer needlessly because of their actions (or inactions in my case). I visited Banfield with 6 year old mix breed and 3 month old rottie pup. The older dog tested positive for heartworms, vet recommended teeth cleaning and a desire to be spayed. I asked several times how much the services cost individually and never got an answer. The response was this wellness plan AKA dog note (ie. House note, car note, etc) or that dog note. They tried to sell on different dog notes for each service. I felt like I experience consumer flim-flam. I was told it would be cheaper in the long to purchase a particular dog note.
I was never told that the dog notes require a membership fee upon registration. This is a deceptive business practice. When I went to pay my bill I was flustered, has not receive any answers to my inquires and was not quite sure what was pay for. In regards to my rottie pup, one of my office mates has rottie pup also. He takes his pup to a different banfields and he stated that he pays $33 a month for his dog note. I was only offered a $55 a month for my pup and was not offered a $33 on month dog not. Once again deceptive business practices.
To get answered to my questions regards cost of services, the next day I called the same banfields and asked how much for heartworm treatment and was told the cost could be up to $2,000 depending on the dog’s weight. I called another vet (who was recommended to me) who stated he charged $250. So now I became clear to me the reason banfield does provide the cost of the services and sells dog notes is to cover the fact that the services are cost prohibitive.

Took my dog here to update vaccinations after re-locating. Should have been a $50-75.00 one-time cost. I was socially pressured into a preventative care "Wellness Plan." #FLORIDA. FYI. Most ETHICAL veterinarians do not push services and products that are not absolutely necessary. The wellness plan entitled her to annual exam, vaccinations, blood work, and a dental cleaning for $39.99/mo. Since the vaccinations my dog has acquired food allergies she did not have before.
The wellness plan includes annual vaccinations but it is safer to opt for the 3yr. vaccines as there has been concern that some annual vaccines can have adverse effects. When she acquired the allergy they tried to steer me towards over-priced food stating she was probably allergic to chicken. She proceeded to state that many dogs had recently been acquiring food allergies. My dog eats chicken and eggs frequently in her diet with no adverse effects and a variety of other meats she does not have allergy to.
I was told I needed to wait at least 6mo. to 1yr. to schedule the dental. Lack of dental appointment availability meant I could not access the dental until after my contract was set to auto-renew. If I terminate contract then I waive access to services owed. Despite having recent blood work on file, they took additional blood work. I thought that it was all covered and would roll-over from previous services not accessible in the prior year. However, when I went to cancel I was told that it does not roll-over nor is it pro-rated. I got trapped into another year of the plan for services rendered because the new blood work and vet access was $300.00 price differential and the annual contract to keep the services is $468.00. It is cheaper to keep the plan than to terminate it after services I should have had easier access to prior to the contract roll-over.
The woman I spoke with on Customer Service was condescending, un-willing to provide a reasonable compromise on the miscommunication of benefits and liabilities, and proceeded to shame me with statements about Banfield's preventative care practices and "what all dogs deserve." I have background in science and vet-care experience and life-long experience with animals. An animals needs are a case by case basis, some preventative care is necessary other is useful but not necessary up to a certain age. The behavior and strategy implies that only people who can pay for Banfield's Preventative Care should own dogs. It is equally unethical as it is classist, as it implies there are not other cost-effective approaches to animal wellness.

THE MOST INCOMPETENT AND NEGLIGENT VET CLINIC. DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE!!! THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THEM!!! Toby was seen last Saturday Sep 28th at this so called hospital, and after x-rays, blood work, and examination by a 'vet doctor', he was diagnosed with inflammation on his spine, and was sent antibiotics. He started getting worse during the week (not eating or being able to sleep) and this past Friday, October 4th we took him again (dropped off) at 8am. We called at 12pm because we had no updates. Were told one of the doctors is in surgery and the other one seeing other patients, that they will get to our dog later on. We tell them we're worried because he isn't feeling well and hasn't been eating. They tell us we'll get a call back soon. It's 2:15 pm and still nothing so we call again. The one doctor is STILL in surgery and our dog, after 6 hours still hadn't been seen.
Frustrated, we tell them to not do anything anymore that we'll pick him up and take him somewhere else. We get there and the manager Tristan, comes out to apologize and tell us the doctors have been busy and we tell them it's unacceptable that our dog has been there for over 6 hours and no one even looked at him. He explains to us that they have a triage where they assess each dog and they're seen based on the severity and ours was at the bottom because he didn't have any emergency. Dr. ** miraculously comes out of surgery just to talk to us. He tells us he sees nothing wrong with Toby, his x-rays (from Saturday) are clear and nothing shows on his lungs. He tells us it could be an infection but he really doesn't know what could be wrong with him. Since he hadn't eaten in a few days he suggests we take him to a hospital to get IV.
We take him to MVS and as soon as we walked in, the nurse tells us Toby's tongue was purple and was in need of oxygen. His levels were 80%!!!! She said she couldn't believe they didn't notice at Banfield. How would they? They never even looked at him in the 6 hours he was there. After a few hours when he's finally stable, they do x-rays. They instantly find fluid in his lungs and a huge mass pressing on his heart and his lungs. They took out almost a liter of fluid from his lungs! HOW COULD BANFIELD NOT SEE THIS WITH THE XRAYS THEY DID LAST SATURDAY? How could they not notice he was having difficulty breathing? After 11 years of taking him to this clinic, and after many x-rays done over the years, how could they never seen a mass growing?
Dr. ** and all the nurses are the most incompetent and negligent medical professionals I've ever encountered. Toby has had that mass for a while and no one caught it. No one noticed he was out of breath and needed help right away. Toby spent the night in critical condition and the Dr. at the MVS hospital told us for his age and this severity, there was very little that could be done. We put him to sleep the next day, on Saturday Oct 5. Because of the incompetence and negligence of Banfield, our precious dog is now dead.

I took my dog to have his dental cleaning yesterday to the Banfield located in Bowie Maryland. During the dental cleaning procedure the veterinary discovered 2 bad teeth that need to be extracted for almost $1000. I had mentioned to the veterinarian assistant that I don’t have $1000 to have this procedure done so what other options are available. She sent him home with a antibiotic for $18.95 which I can afford. Well today 10/6 I gave my dog the antibiotic but noticed he’s having a difficult time breathing so I called Banfield to let them know what’s going on with my dog so they recommended me to bring him in for a quick checkup in which I did. The drive from my home took me 30 minutes.
I get there and the vet assistant takes my dog back to be checked, comes back out from the back room and tells me the veterinarian hears some cracking sounds in my dog's lungs then tell me to take my dog to the dog and cat hospital up the road so they can do X-rays. At this point I’m furious. This is why I have the Wellness plan in which money is taken out of my checking account every month on time. I was instructed to bring my dog back which I did. The drive was 30 minutes then you recommend me to take my dog somewhere else in which I have to come out of my darn pocket. I shouldn’t have to take my dog to a hospital if I have the wellness plan. If I knew this was going to happen I would have stayed home and not waste any gas money. Banfield in Bowie is the worst.

I had signed up for the “Wellness Plan” when I first got my service dog thinking having the ability to see a vet regularly was good for a dog that was working a job. I have no clue what happened but I dropped off my happy, loving and confident dog for a teeth cleaning and when I picked her up she was a completely different animal. She was terrified of everything! A great service animal that made my life so much better had become a dog that couldn’t leave my home without shaking, hiding and keeping her back hunched and tail tucked under. These are all signs of severe fear and anxiety.
Because of this one appointment I had to retire her early at the extremely young age of 4 years old. (Average age to retire a service dog is 8-10 years old.) Then to add insult to injury they required that I pay for the rest of the year remaining on the plan. Then I called and cancelled the plan at the renewal date. Silly me, I thought everything was handled. Nope. I didn’t really pay attention to reoccurring withdrawals in my checking account, not a mistake I’ll make again, and didn’t realize they were still taking out monthly payments.
When I realized what was going on I called to talk to someone. After being on hold for over 20 minutes I ended up with a guy who was not even close to helpful. Apparently they didn’t have any record of the call canceling the plan. That means that they will only refund the very last withdrawal but not the previous 10 months. (At $49.90 a month that’s a whopping $499.00!!!) Never mind that I have never even stepped foot in a PetSmart or Banfield in over a year let alone brought my baby in to see them!
I will never support either company again and will make sure that everyone I know learns about their shoddy vet and business practices. Thanks to Banfield I now have a highly trained and very expensive (Estimated cost for service dogs from the nonprofit I received her from is $30,000 in training, breeding and medical care! Not to mention the money I had to pay out for hotel and food when I went to a 3 week boot camp to learn how to work with her.) house pet and have basically thrown away nearly $500.

***WARNING STAY AWAY*** Banfield's lack of professionalism is actually laughable. Please do not go here for any reason. Ever. Feb 2019: I receive a cat, and am concerned about the fact that she's drinking/urinating excessively (literally drinking a half-gallon per day). I took her to Banfield in Ballard, and after a 5 min inspection and several attempts to pressure me into a wellness plan, they tell me she's fine with no testing at all. This was with Dr. **.
Sept 2019: One of my two cats is urinating blood, and we decide to take him into Banfield. We went to the Capitol Hill location, where we saw Dr. **. After running several tests (and $900 later) they tell me there's nothing wrong with him. I then inform the Dr that my other cat has some issues with her urine and that Dr. ** said she was fine just a few months prior.
A few days later: I was convinced to bring my cat back to the vet (the one I adopted in Feb) so they could run additional tests to prove whether or not she was actually sick (since they ran zero tests before telling me she was fine in Feb) and they informed me nothing was wrong yet again. During this visit, they convinced me to sign up for a wellness plan with a spay, because I was informed she would surely get uterine cancer if I didn't. This was now the second chance that the Dr's have had to examine her.
A few days later again: I get a call from the original location in Ballard (with no communication from the Capitol Hill office about her tests results) that she needs to come in immediately for a comprehensive exam. During this visit (the 3rd time they've had a chance to examine her) they put me on the schedule for a spay the next week.
Today: I went in for the scheduled spay, and a few hours later I get a call that the Dr. found a tattoo and scar on my cat AFTER PUTTING HER UNDER ANESTHETIC AND SHAVING HER that indicates that she was ALREADY SPAYED!!!! Stay tuned, I'm still fighting with them to let me out of the wellness plans for my two pets (not even a month later) and I'm now being told that there were an additional $600 in ADDITIONAL charges that were "billed to the plan" that I would have to pay to cancel!!! ***WARNING STAY AWAY***

I have a special needs dog with anxiety and digestive problems. I needed to switch vets since my dog was misdiagnosed at his prior vet. The basic dental here is only $275 (not including the labs & x-rays). I printed the free first visit coupon online to see if they could help me. My dog has broken off two of his long bottom canine teeth due to his severe separation anxiety biting on his crate over the past year. He must be crated due to he's destructive and could get a foreign body if left to his own devices.
Claire and Dr. ** made me feel comfortable, took all the time I needed, actually listened to me, and didn't pressure me by trying to up-sell. I think they are honest and are truly trying to help us. I expressed my concerns for cost and was offered a wellness plan which I purchased. They offered to put him on different medication to treat his anxiety.
To those who have given bad reviews they must not have understood that the wellness plan isn't insurance. Pet insurance usually doesn't cover preventative care. The wellness plan comes in three tiers. It doesn't cover everything but it covers a lot, includes discounts, and is customizable which I like. Instead it is spreading out the payments for preventative care over 12 months. You can choose a plan that includes a dental and can even add the flea/heartworm meds. If you cancel it you will owe the services rendered (makes sense to me). If you charged a vet bill on your credit card, you would still owe the balance even if your pet dies - this is the same concept.
It comes with an app that has 24/7 access to a real vet who can tell you if it's an emergency or if it can wait. I used that app the next day after my appointment and it is wonderful! I like the fact that they are open 7 days a week and the wellness plan comes with unlimited visits since my dog can get into trouble due to his severe anxiety and digestive problems. I can't even tell you how many times I have had to take my dog to the emergency vet and regular vet this year so this will save me money in the long run between the app, being open 7 days a week and having unlimited visits.
Mind you, this Active Care Plus wellness plan doesn't cover things like diagnostics or treatment for serious illness like cancer or injuries - it is just a way to save money and spread it out over time for routine care. Their highest tier plan does cover some diagnostic scans so that is an option to upgrade to if your pet gets older and needs it every year. You have to use the services to get the benefit of the wellness plans. I happen to need the services so this works very well for my situation. This clinic and wellness plan seems to be an answer to my prayers for my high maintenance pooch. This is the one in the Petsmart near Memorial on I-10.

After many grieving months of our 15 year old Persian cat, Sassy. My family and I feel it is best to share our story with other pet lovers to understand their risk at Banfield Pet Hospital. On 5/3/2019 Sassy was taken in for her annual visit. After bloodwork she was diagnosed with chronic renal disease. They told us this is common in older cats and can be easily managed. So she stayed to receive fluids for the rest of the day with them. My mother and I picked her up later that evening and she had perked up a lot and was purring and meowing at us. They suggested additional fluid therapy the next day and a new special renal diet. We started her on a new prescription renal diet which she gobbled up that night and was as happy as ever. We brought her back the following day (5/4/19) for additional fluid therapy and later received a phone call stating she was not doing well.
Upon arrival, we were informed her fluid rate was mistakenly set at 111 mls an hour for almost 3 hours INSTEAD of 11 mls an hour. This caused Sassy to be induced with pulmonary edema (fluid in her lungs) by the veterinary staff. Dr. ** then told us she would need to be rushed to BluePearl ER in Katy BY US!!!! That was the worst 35 minute drive for us with our beloved cat dying in my arms while my mom drove frantically to try and save our cat. She was rushed in and that was the last time we saw our Sassy alive. That night she died.
15 years of memories, unconditional love to come to an end due to the negligence and irresponsible staff of Banfield Animal Hospital! I say again, for 3 hours not a single staff member didn’t notice Sassy was 10 TIMES OVER on her fluid rate? The fact the Veterinary assistant/Veterinarian didn’t monitor her or put her rate in correctly shows the quality of care you are paying top dollar for. They lie to you and seem to want to do extra services to your dog. It took my dog 2 days to come out from being sedated for a teeth cleaning. My dog was bleeding from her rear end and twice they treated her for a UTI. The third time she was bleeding the regular vet was not there and substitute vet ran a test and found out my dog had another type of infection and got us on the right medicine.
Last time I took my dog in for her 6 month check up I had dropped my dog off and when I went to pick her up the vet didn’t come out to talk to me but the receptionist told me that my dog had a level 3 heart murmur and told me the vet had told me at our dogs last check up. Excuse me that is not something you forget and for the receptionist to just say that was shocking. I have had dealt with some wonderful doctors at Banfield but it seems lately the vets have gotten horrible. I do know Mars Corporate has bought Banfield and wonder if that is why they are now so bad. I would like to mention the names of the vets that were so bad but not sure if I can. So please do not use the Banfield on 24th and Market in Seattle.

I am extremely dissatisfied with Banfield. My dog died during the plan year upon which I had made 5 payments to-date. These crooks told me I needed to pay 300+ dollars to cancel my plan or simply continue payments through February of 2020. That is incredibly absurd. I will never again put another pet on a Banfield Wellness Plan. Do not trust them with your pet's healthcare needs. The overall service is subpar as well. Purchase health insurance instead and find a local reliable vet. THEY ARE CROOKS. PERIOD. I WILL NOT pay a plan for my pet who has passed away.

It seems once you are rushed through the process, in my case a purebreed with papers and came with a file showing all vaccines already done was never taken seriously. Though they don’t have a clue to the process of getting a dog license and what is required they tell you your dog must have x, y & z, and if it is a puppy purchased from breeder they use it as an excuse to do it all over again. My Collie Pup was over vaccinated and suffered a reaction and I was told to put her on ** to calm her down which just made her depressed to which she has never recovered.
Her eyesight changed even though she was screened for the DNA she carries and tested negative for potential eye problems with the vet unable to check you her eyes and referred me to Stanford of all places. Always separating me from her during visits and after she pulled again the harness so hard she was able to escape. While trying to enter PetSmart I demanded to see the actual Vet since I only met admins and want-a-be’s. That’s when things got ugly and they abused her physically in front of me and threw a fecal container at me and yelled “you do it next time” in front of the Vet.
They act exactly as they are trained and seem to have adopted the Kaiser business model that was discontinued due to too many lawsuits. My last visit was in late Jan or Feb of 19 and it took many calls to corporate to get the Manager to call back. The front desk screens all calls and even tried to dodge a call from their own corporate offices after I explained what they do. If you feel they don’t understand why you feel the way you do about the service and pull their guidelines from somehow to make a profit book, you're not far from wrong.
They hear it day in and day out but this is the same story shared to me by everyone I meet in the local Dog Park where I can see an almost full grown full size Collie unable to keep up with much smaller dogs nor really connect. She is more now like a cat rather than the Alpha dog she was so carefully bred for with a breeder seeing red. Just say no as they treat all pets as if they are a rescue and disposable. I never met service workers or medical providers that were so snarky and rude.
If the Manager dodges your calls, call corporate every day until you get a resolution if you run into the same kind of problems and it is always wise to take home any contract and sleep on it. Only those with bad intent won’t allow this and question why if something does not make sense and look it up for yourself before subjecting your pet to what could be their last clear moment due to being rushed. This is how they do it and it is what they are taught.

We signed up with this company for our dog and they misdiagnosed him with Parvo... TWICE!!! I had to do the research and figure out what he had and demand that they check for Parvo before they would admit that he had it. Then, when I decided to cancel, apparently what NO ONE bothered to tell me is that they trick you into their 1 year contract agreement. They told me it was month to month. I will be canceling my debit card and they can go screw themselves. I HATE shady companies like this and I will NEVER pay them another dime. EVER!!! I will go to Petco from now on or anywhere else for that matter. PetSmart needs to get their act together and cancel their contract with this shady company. It is going to lose PetSmart a lot of business the way Banfield works.

My 4 lb chihuahua has been with Banfield for a couple of years now. She is on the plan that includes a dental cleaning and really that's the only reason I buy this plan for the dental cleaning because they are expensive and I can pay monthly rather than all at once. I have 2 dogs so it can be costly. Her plan renewed in March 2019 and I made an appointment for her exam, blood work in order to schedule her dental which she really needed. After the exam I was told by the vet (seems like I get a different vet every time which I hate) that she detected a slight heart murmur and Peaches would not be eligible for her dental until this is evaluated. Then they told me I could upgrade my plan to the plan that includes X-rays and they could evaluate her heart. So I upgraded and they took X-rays and I was told to come back in 4 days to get the results which was more like 10 days because of lame excuses on Banfield part.
WARNING. This is what I failed to ask and they did not mention this to me either. When the results came back that Peaches has a slightly enlarged heart she still was not going to get her dental because now she is a risk and they told me that I would have to go to a heart specialist $100 for the visit and get a ultrasound of the heart $450+ to clear her for anesthesia. So now I'm paying monthly for a plan that I cannot utilize fully because they refuse to do her dental but I'm paying for this monthly and they will not downgrade my plan to the basic plan because I got X-rays. They told me the only way they can do that is if I pay for the services that I already used as cash pay. X-rays 450 exam, vaccinations, blood work. I set my plan to not renew. My dog still needs a dental. No guarantee that if I take Peaches to a heart specialist that he will clear her either. Lesson learned.

I signed up for the wellness plan based on recommendations from my sister who works at Banfield. The employees are required by Banfield to sell or recommend the plans to visitors. I signed up and barely used any services. They charge you $20 fee/month for any late payments, which is a ridiculously expensive late fee on the $40 monthly. On top of that, they charged me twice within a two week period when I requested to have the payment date changed. I called their hotline and was told there's nothing they can do for that change, but they'll waive late fee this time.
Tried to cancel the plan but they said the plan covers a package deal on services with 40% off. if I cancel now that they would charge me the full 100% on services, which would be $600+ now. Or I wait to be charged for an additional 5 months, which would total $550+. The plans are also NOT the same as pet insurance. I knew this beforehand so was not bother by this. But many other people sign up thinking that it is. This means that any services that are not preventative care means that you will be charged out of pocket and is NOT covered. Very useless in my opinion. This is clearly a way to rip money off people who just want the best for their pets. Don't fall for their so-called "wellness plans".

This is my second review of this terrible place. The first one appears to have been deleted, but it details their afternoon to charge me $800 for not getting my cat spayed. I had brought her in for a spayed that is included in the health plan I had purchased (which upon further research is really an expensive scam). It turned out she was pregnant. They had already begun the surgery, so they called and asked me what I wanted then to do (she was just adopted and only six months old). It was safer to let her have them, so that's what we decided. When I went to pick her up, they had me wait 30 minutes for an account specialist. They proceeded to explain that since they technically didn't do the spay, they had to charge me $800.
A back and forth that took an hour of them then calling corporate offices again and again finally resulted in me not paying anything. It was explained to me at one point that they couldn't simply count it as a day against my plan because it would be falsifying medical records and the doctor could lose their license. What a crock. So, fast forward to today. I brought her in to be spayed (You cannot get out of this yearly contract). The surgery was fine, but I had asked for them to give a pedicure while she was under. They said they would, and charged me for it. When I picked her up I asked again if they had done it. They claimed they had and included it in the bill. They didn't.
This morning I was trying to adjust her cone and got scratched up. I checked her nails, they haven't been done. It's also important to note how rude the entire staff is. They answer every question with a indignant tone. When I called today to tell them they hadn't done her nails, the girl put me on hold, without an apology, and got back on and simply said, "You can just bring her back in and have us do it". I'm typing here, but imagine that being said in a tone that would almost require gum smacking. 6 more months in this contract. I doubt I'll continue to use them, despite having paid for it.

Annual testing of dogs that are on heartworm preventative is not necessary, however. It is not harmful to the dog, only to your wallet, so unless you feel the need to test you should just keep your dog on the preventative. Apr 22, 2019. Banfield Pet Hospital in Newark DE will not issue prescription for heartworm medication to the dogs on already heartworm medication all year around without missing a dose. The manager Debra ** at Banfield refused to issue the prescription to my dog.
My dog has been taking Sentinel since she was a puppy all year around without missing a dose. Yet Debra ** wanted me to bring my dog in for office visit and for an expensive blood test and pay over $100 to them. Otherwise she will not issue the necessary prescription. This was not the case at different vets clinics. They always sold us Sentinel without blood test since my dog has been on Sentinel since she was a puppy and never missed a dose. Debra ** says Sentinel is only 99.9% effective and not 100% effective. And Banfield Pet Hospital requires yearly heartworm blood tests on all dogs even if they are already on heartworm medication. Banfield Pet Hospital at 6210 Northway Mall. I had to rush my 6 month old puppy to the ER after a routine spay. There was a misdiagnosis from Dr. Rachel ** who did the procedure without a senior vet present. The morning began with Dr. ** calling me to tell me that she would like to charge me for a tooth extraction on my puppy's baby tooth. I told her please do not do that as the baby tooth will fall out naturally. After surgery she calls me to tell me everything is fine, however, I might be interested in a $216 blood test to determine if my puppy may have a blood disorder. She is concerned right after she tells me everything is fine that she may be bleeding too much after surgery. I voiced my concerns that I am concerned about the bleeding. She told me she will call me back after she reads an article on Great Pyrenees because she is not sure what is the best next steps.
She then calls me for a third time within 30 minutes and asks me if I gave my dog rat poisoning. She is now gravely concerned about my puppy's red blood cell count and her platelet count. She tells me it is extremely low at a 52. She told me I can go straight to the ER if I am concerned. Now questioning the competency of this doctor, I fly to the store after major road closures due to a rainstorm. The communication now gets even worse... The staff was uneducated on my dog's final charges. Dr. ** has no idea if my dog is still bleeding. She expected me to walk my 56 pound dog to car to take to ER while my poor puppy is still sedated and possibly bleeding out. They finally gave me a cart and helped my puppy into car.
Luckily, when getting to ER the vet informed me that the blood levels are completely normal for a large puppy that just got out of surgery. I am so grateful my puppy is doing well and they had a team of compassionate employees there ready to help in a stressful situation. The ER trip cost me $500 for a sonogram and a few hours of monitoring. Of course, none of this will be covered in the Banfield wellness plan. The Banfield team attempted to charge me $90 for tests I did not approve. They then say they made a mistake and it is only $77. I was originally quoted $60 for flea and tick medicine and her microchip. I just got home from ER and noticed they never even gave me my medication so they overcharged me for medicine I never even received.
I am still unable to cancel this plan. After posting online reviews this hospital has retaliated against me. The retaliation consisted of banning me from their store, refusing to cancel my plan and falsifying my puppies medical records. The falsifying medical records was to attempt to deter other vets from caring for my pet. The customer service at this location is terrible. The lack of compassion and more importantly the lack of experience is frightening. Please be good to your pet and find a professional group. Don't make the same mistake I did! Lesson learned, you get what you pay for! Please reconsider an appointment with Dr. **. She needs a few more years experience before conducting surgery on animals. She also should consider hiring an employee to communicate on her behalf. She lacks empathy and customer service training.

Before my plan renewed I called to cancel it and they were great over the phone, suggested I might as well do my last appointment since I basically already paid for it, and then talk to the vet about the right plan for me.
However, whenever I go in they are too busy and behind to have me even see the vet to have a conversation about my plan. I wasn't able to do it and then forgot about it auto-renewing. So now I am still paying a high plan - which includes dental that I can't even use. I don't like that I see a different doctor every time I go and that none of them bother to look up his history and I have to repeat everything each time. The first time we were canceled on it was out of the blue and a little annoyed but we understood. The second time we were canceled on we were trying to have our cat spayed (because she was going in and out of heat) and they canceled on us. We made that appointment a month in advance and got pushed back another month.
This aggravated us beyond belief and we didn’t stand for it so we went there, asked for all our pet records and told them we were never coming back because we were very unhappy. My question is, why didn’t they try to find one immediately available for us because they were the one who canceled on us? But instead was wanting to make us wait a whole another month for something we didn’t do wrong? Other then that the staff is friendly but we will never go there again. You have to cancel it after the first year, so you have to make contact after that marker not before or it's not a legit cancel, but they don't tell you that so you think it's canceled and then get a bill for the services. The bill comes at the end of that second year. Therefore you have to pay for the whole year and get no services. Scam. Banfield is why my cat is dead. Jack and Dodger have been going to Banfield Pet Hospital for close to a year. Jack went to Banfield Cap Hill in December because I was seeing him struggling with eating and he was dropping weight. They ran blood tests and told me he had an elevated thyroid so we put him on meds. 2 weeks in there was no change. They insisted on more test which of course I did. They were the same tests as before by the way. We went to the Tukwila Banfield. They ran the tests and said that the Cap Hill vet was wrong. They took him off the meds. Jack is getting worse.
At the same time, Dodger has been vomiting daily… several times a day and not hair. Digested food. I take him in early January and they run several tests and tell me he has hairballs and they send me on my way. Two weeks later Jack and I go back to cap hill. They say Tukwila shouldn't have taken him off the meds and they insist on running the same tests AGAIN! The thyroid comes back negative and now they say he has hypertension and put him on those meds. Two weeks later there’s been no improvement. Jack is still losing weight and struggling. Dodger is still vomiting… So I take Dodger back to Banfield and tell them the hairball thing is not the issue and it’s not hair he’s vomiting. It’s food.
They run more of the same tests and they switch his food to Ultimino because they say that he “can't handle proteins”. The Ultimino is by Royal Canin... and is $50 for a 6-pound bag. Meanwhile, Jack is getting worse. I take Jack back to the vet on a Sunday and insist they do something about his mouth. I insist it’s not a thyroid or hypertension issue and that I am his mom and I know something is wrong with his mouth. This lady vet takes a casual look in his mouth and says, "I don’t see anything"… and I said, "I don’t care. There’s something going on with his mouth and I need someone to do something about it!!!"
So we set up an appointment to get his teeth cleaned. They clean them and tell me 4 teeth need to be pulled but they don’t have the equipment, but they will in July. They said I can wait until July to have the teeth pulled when they get the equipment. Jack is still getting worse. I take Jack to a new vet that a friend recommends and when we get there the vet said, Jack has a massive ulcer on his tongue and advanced dental disease that could not wait until July. All the while, Dodger is still vomiting daily. The other vets did everything they could for 7 weeks but the ulcer on Jacks' tongue ruptured and severed his tongue and Jack had to be put down. MY BABY IS GONE BECAUSE OF THESE INEPT CLOWNS!!!
Yesterday, Dodger went to his new vet and the reason he’s vomiting is because the vet put him on Royal Canin brand food. Mars owns Royal Canin…. AND BANFIELD PET HOSPITAL. So what this means is the pet hospital is corporatized and the goal is to keep my babies sick, so I have to keep coming back in! The reason Dodger has been so sick is because they were giving him food that was nothing but cornstarch and telling me that it was the only thing he could eat!! The new vet said Dodger should recover on a PROTEIN based diet of wet food that’s grain free. It's too late for my boy Jack though...

No issues with the staff, quality of care, costs, etc. My review today is based on the lack of quality customer service I've received lately when contacting their call center for help. Within the past month, I've had them make errors on my account at least 3 times. The last time they were supposedly going to waive one of my pet's monthly wellness plan fee, yet they did not.
Prior to that, the month prior, I was charged twice for the same pet's wellness plan. Today, I call to get assistance with managing my pets' plans and I get a message that there is a 40 minute wait time due to "high volume". A 40 minute wait/hold time!? Are you kidding me? I had to leave my number for them to call me back when they're able. This is not the type of customer service that one expects to receive for any business...especially one that I've paid into for nearly 10 years.

I signed in a Wellness program for $52 a month since 2016. I used to live in Palm Coast Fl. So I went to their hospital there. They do dental cleaning even if they found out my poodle has a heart murmur. I was told to just keep a watch now and then. My dog is ok. I always been able to talk to the Doctor in Palm Coast clinic after every checkup. But when I moved to Ormond Beach Fl, I started bringing my dog to their hospital in Daytona Beach. Their clinic refused to do dental cleaning during the exam, because of my dog's heart murmur. They want to do an X-ray which will cost me more than $200. And was told if they find something wrong they will do surgery. That was so blunt saying that surgery is the only way. I can imagine how much this crooked people would charged me for surgery. That’s when I decided to cancel my membership.
I called the corporate office and was told I still have to pay for the months lefts until my membership expire...June 2019. I called for an appointment for June 15. Lo and behold, they refused to see my dog because my membership ends June 13, only two days after before my appointment. Or I will have to pay the exam out of pocket. I refused to pay on their demand. I felt so downhearted when a Dr refused to see your pet. If Medical Dr have a Hippocratic oath to see not just sick patient but also well patient for routine check up, I am sure Veterinarian have too. I would bring my dog to a real veterinarian who have a heart for animals. I have never meet the doctor in Banfield clinic in Daytona Beach after every checkup except from some helper/nurse to explain what’s going on. Banfield hospital in Palm Coast is far better compared to the one in International Speedway in Daytona Beach. Pet owners!!! Beware bringing your dog in Daytona Beach clinic.

We participated in the wellness plan for 4-5 years. Here's the issue. My dog was put down on 6/1/2019 and my plan renewed on 2/19/2019. The issue is we don't need the plan and they want to charge me back for expenses used since 2/19 and the discounts that were given. I asked when I renewed what happens if my pet doesn't make the term of the plan? I was told, "You simply call and cancel the plan." So I call and they wish to charge me back in full for the discounts given since I didn't complete full term of the plan. When I called they said it is in the plans information. BUYER BEWARE!

I was threatened and put down by the front office staff as well as the guy who was supposedly the only manager I could speak to. After calling 5 minutes after my appt time due to a car accident on Dr 28. Called more than once getting a vm stating they were closed. Finally got in touch with them 7 minutes after my appointment time telling them we made it and are parking for them to tell me "you are already halfway through your appointment". Are you kidding???
So they stated I would have to leave my 114 lb Akita who isn't friendly with strangers. Made me fill out papers etc etc. Went to waiting room. Waited. Their time meant nothing I guess. Still only ten min after my scheduled appt for them to say the male staff who threatened me wants me to leave and go to another vet. My dog was throwing up on Tuesday and moping around and not wanting to eat. So I thought she maybe ate something that didn’t sit well. Wednesday came she still throwing up not using the bathroom and not wanting to eat or drink so I called Banfield once I got home from work. I told them all the symptoms and said she looks dehydrated. So the girl at the front desk says, "Well we are booked today. I can put you in for tomorrow." I’m like, "You have nothing." She said no so I waiting till Thursday. Went in and they started telling me what they can do for her and the cost so I went with ice fluids and anti nauseas meds. Doctor told me if she doesn’t get better bring her back and they will do X-ray. Mind you I have to pay for all this there and then. So Friday came my dog got worst. Brought her back. She was blue and they did X-ray and found she and a blockage from a rope she ate. She was unstable already. She couldn’t walk or anything.
If they would of seen me on Wednesday when I called I could of waited the 24 hrs. She could of came in Thursday which she was still walking a little bit alert. Maybe the surgery they recommended from and emergency hospital could of took place that day but Friday came and she was too weak and they couldn’t do surgery till Saturday! They told my husband it was 4,600 for surgery so I said yes let them so he transported her to the emergency hospital. When I got there they said the surgery was 6,000-7,000. When they saw her condition it went up to 10,000+. I didn’t have that kind of money so my only option was to give my dog up. This could of been prevented if they would of seen me the day I called!!!! I would never go back again!!!! I lost my beautiful dog - my son's dog - for these people I trusted!!!!

First off, this review is not regarding the veterinarians serving the hospitals. I've had great experiences with the doctors. On to the reason for the ONE STAR REVIEW! I've had my dog in my family for 11 years. He's been a wellness customer for almost his entire life. For the past many years I've been charged for one pet, around 36 dollars a month, because I only have ONE PET. About five months ago I started to get charged about 86 dollars and some change. I called and was informed that, my agreement shows two dogs that aren't mine, and now I'm being charged for that amount. I informed Banfield that those are not my dogs and that I only own one. I've never paid nor taken these two other dogs to any Banfield Hospital. It turns out these are my brother's dogs that apparently I am paying for now. My brother has not been charged for his two dogs instead they are charging me.
My dog's wellness plan has disappeared apparently out of nowhere. Since I've never been charged these amounts before because I only have my one dog, my account has been over drafted each time these charges come out. Why? I don't budget for services I do not need. Getting in touch with a supervisor is the most RIDICULOUS thing I have ever heard of. They connect you to a voicemail and a "supervisor" will call you back within 24-48 hours?? I was hoping this exchange would be a simple refund considering, those have never been my dogs and I have never paid for them since I've been a part of this wellness plan. Also, when I tried calling up to the actual PetSmart to cancel my debit card so they would stop with these unauthorized charges, I was informed that my brother was the owner of my account and I would have to have him call and cancel it for me.
So to sum up the review, for the past five months out of the blue, I'm being charged almost triple what I was paying for years for my one and only dog. My brother hasn't been getting charged at all. My dog's charged are nowhere to be found and I'm no longer the account holder for my OWN DOG! This is the WORST experience I've EVER endured.

I took my dog to Banfield for years. The wellness plan worked out until he really got sick. I changed plans to cover x-rays. I was contacted with the results of his physical and informed that his spleen looked enlarged and that I could pay for a radiologist consult. I agreed. Less than three days later, my dog was dead. Not only was I left with the remainder of paying for the plan (11 mos), I had to pay for a necropsy, cremation and transportation. The vet never sent the x-rays out for a consult, yet I paid for it. Banfield showed no concern as to the cause of his death especially since he had just seen the vet. I have not and will never step foot in Banfield again.

I will NEVER take another pet to Banfield again. We had a 12 year old Rat Terrier that we trusted Banfield to help. Our dog had experienced minor seizures for his entire life. Through research, we figured out that certain things would "trigger" his seizures, such as flea medication, pesticide sprays, and chemicals. We also found that certain vaccinations were linked to seizures and sometimes death, especially in smaller breeds. We managed his seizures for years, using a holistic diet and CBD for dogs.
Last Winter, however, our dog had a couple seizures close together. He also began vomiting what seemed to be just bile, and he stopped eating his regular kibble and treats. We attempted to feed him baked chicken, rice, sweet potatoes, etc. This worked for a short time, but soon he lost his appetite for these meals too. Desperate, we took him to Banfield to try to figure out what could be wrong.
When we got in to see Dr. Michelle **, it did not go well. First, the doctor ran blood tests and said that our dog was very healthy aside from a MINOR UTI. For some reason, she did not think it was significant that our dog had stopped eating, and was listed in their records at 17 lbs., but was now only 12 lbs. A loss of 1/3 body weight should send RED FLAGS. The doctor also laughed off the seizures, saying that we were mistaking an "anxious" dog for a seizing dog. So, upon ignoring our base reasoning for bringing the dog to the vet in the first place, Dr. ** prescribed an antibiotic for the UTI, and went ahead and pumped the dog full of several vaccinations as well. She also up-sold us on the Banfield Wellness Plan so we could have unlimited visits in the future.
An antibiotic, and multiple vaccinations in a dog that was not eating and had a history of seizures... That night, our dog suffered the most intense Grand Mal Seizure he had every had. We had never seen anything like it. It was heart-breaking. We immediately took him to another vet who determined he was terminally ill with cancer. We were given meds to keep him comfortable and stimulate his appetite for 2 weeks so that we could say goodbye before having him euthanized. We returned to Banfield because we wanted answers as to how they could be so wrong in their diagnosis. Why would they sell us a Wellness Plan for a dog that was dying? When we explained that we were there because our dog was literally dying, THEY TRIED TO SELL US A NAIL TRIM AND TEETH CLEANING.
Upon this visit, Dr. ** basically said, "yes, the dog is terminally ill". That's it. No apology. No explanation for ignoring his symptoms and torturing him with multiple vaccinations. No acknowledgment that those vaccinations triggered his worst seizure ever and accelerated his death, and made everything more painful than it needed to be. No expression of regret for hooking us into their Wellness Plan even though he would not be alive to use it. Banfield didn't kill our dog. They just made his last days miserable. We take our pets to the vet because we want to do right by them. We trust the vet to do what is best for our animals. Banfield ignored what we told them, ignored our dog's signs and symptoms, and destroyed what was left of his immune system. Now we are stuck paying a monthly insurance bill to a pet hospital that didn't even care about our pet.

I took my dog to Banfield because he was throwing up, appeared to be losing weight, and was having seizures. The vet, Dr. Michelle ** checked him out. She didn’t seem concerned about the weight loss, and completely down played the significance of his seizures. She did say he had a minor UTI, she prescribed antibiotics, and while she was at it, she sold me a wellness plan and updated a few vaccinations. Later that day my dog had a grand mal seizure the worst seizure he had ever had, and was taken to DoveLewis emergency where he was diagnosed with cancer. 20 days later he passed away.
I do not blame Dr. ** or Banfield for the death of my dog, however I do believe that the Banfield doctor failed to recognize the severity of his symptoms. I went to Banfield for help and what they did was up-sell me a wellness plan and vaccinate my dog, a dying dog. I wish in hindsight that when I called Banfield they would have let me know one simple thing: that they are not trained to help dogs with such severe issues. Seizures require a speciality vet trained in neurology and they do not have those at Banfield. I wish I would have known. I believe that when I went in to Banfield their main concern was getting me to buy into their wellness plan and to sell me vaccinations. It’s a shame and I will never trust them with another pet.

This all started in January when my baby girl Shilo died. I had been trying to cancel this plan since before then. Long story short. She got sick. I took her over to Banfield and they wouldn’t see her. Told me to come back tomorrow. 3am we ended up having to take her to an animal ER, paid 3k and she never really got better, and eventually we had to put her down.
I used to sing praises and Banfield Pet Clinic. Not anymore. Never again!! Got a letter saying I owed 133.95 and if I didn’t pay it was going to collections, so I called and the auto attendant now says my balance or 170+ (interest or another monthly fee) who knows. Anyway I paid it, then called to talk to someone to make sure both plans were canceled. Oh guess what. Another 30 minute hold time on the cancellation line.... Go figure, so I opted to have someone call me back, at least it wasn’t 2 hours this time. So someone calls me back and no, not both plans were canceled, just Princess’ plan was but not Shilo’s. I still owes another $140 for her plus they were charging me for Proheart injection that she wasn’t even getting anymore. I’ve never been so pissed. I was disrespectful and hateful to the the guy on the phone and I don’t care. You who know me know I usually take it. Grin and bare it. Deal with it and move on.

Not long time ago his stools were having blood, they made some tests again which was almost another $150 to check if he did not have worms.
According to them he was clean and they suggested he needed an x-ray over $300 to check if he has a blockage. I decided no way I will pay that for an x ray, puppy was not acting sick, except the blood and some diarrea. So I got him the dewormin treatment online for $8. Problem solved. Puppy is good now. I have been taking my dog here since 2013. I used to have the wellness plan which worked well until my dog had an illness which is not covered by the plan. I had taken her there because she did not look right. The physical exam did not yield any useful diagnosis but that same evening, my dog continued to deteriorate where I had to take her to a Pet ER and she was referred to a neuro specialist. She had emergency surgery that evening. We ended up paying around 10K for her. She recovered motor function after about a week. We then decided to drop the wellness plan and just get pet insurance that covers both wellness and illness. So we would take her to Banfield, pay then get reimbursed partially for the visits.
The problem I have now encountered is that her shots need to be staggered because they do not necessarily conveniently fall on the same dates. The issue is that there is an office visit charge for vaccinations, even if she was just recently seen and had a physical exam. I do not want to be charged again for something unnecessary and not covered by her insurance plan anymore. And no amount of explanation to the person making appointments could convince her to be flexible to my needs. Makes me feel that they just want to generate as much income at the consumer's expense. So they have lost me as a client, and the irony is that I was able to quickly find a place that would and could easily just give vaccinations (except rabies) to pets, even without physical exams once established.

Last week, my 12 year old Pom wasn’t feeling well; slight temperature, slower to move and having difficulties rising up from the floor. I called Banfield to see if I can bring him in and I was informed that they do not have an appointment until Wednesday.
Mind you, I called Banfield on a Monday. Needless to say I took my baby to another hospital where he receives his weekly laser treatment. Vets never ran tests on him. Prescribed some overpriced antibiotics and sent him home. A little over a week ago, the Petsmart grooming department had to bring our dog over to the hospital because of breathing problems. He was given a few minutes of oxygen and handed back to me without any concern whatsoever on the part of the attending veterinarian.
Four days later our dog had to be euthanized. The veterinarian at the emergency hospital (not Banfield) ran several tests. He found late stage congestive heart failure, fluid buildup in the lungs and abdomen, and severe diabetes. Banfield never caught any of these things. If you love your pet, stay away from Banfield. Last year my cat Chloe had a regular wellness exam in May and they gave absolutely no indication that anything was wrong with her. Shortly after this visit, it seemed like her eating was decreasing but she is a picky eater so I changed food and tried some other things, not thinking it could be more serious. She started vomiting and barely eating not long after and this went on for a bit and I took her back to Banfield. They talked me into a $250 X-ray and let me know that this would be good but that I may also have to take her in to the vet hospital for an ultrasound.
I wasn’t sure if I should just take her straight in for the ultrasound but they told me the X-ray would be helpful. Well, big surprise, the X-ray wasn’t helpful and I was out the $250 and that delayed her care in going to the hospital directly. The hospital found a mass in her abdomen and intestinal cancer and attempted aggressive treatment. Unfortunately it was too late and she declined rapidly until I had to put her down due to her suffering. This was about a month after her full bloodwork for her wellness visit. I feel that this may have been able to be prevented had I gone to a different vet. My cat was only 13 and could have lived more years. As others have mentioned, I still had to pay out the rest of her plan for several months until it ended to cover the costs of dental work, etc.
I have had other issues with Banfield locations and have had a feeling depending on the veterinarian that they are just out for money and do not care as much as they should about animal health. I just noticed my cat has had a lower appetite than normal and attempted to get an appointment right away. They suggested I come in a few days later because they were booked and could not even accommodate a drop off to at least check him. Absolutely unacceptable, I took my cat straight to the vet hospital this time. Unfortunately now I will have to pay everything out of pocket and my wellness plan with Banfield is useless because they are too busy. They treat you like cattle and seem to be all about quantity over quality. Do not subscribe here, I really regret it but it’s hard to switch when you have a history with the vet already.

Everything they do, you could easily get at your local government for a 1/3 of the cost. Also they only do preventive car so if your pet falls ill or breaks something you're out of luck with these guys. They are great about their vaccine program though they remind you of when your pet are due for their vaccines and blood tests. But honestly you could buy all of this preventive stuff at Chewy or any other online pet store. Their customer service is the WORST! I was not able to get to a live representative for 1 hour. Finally gave up waiting and had them give me a call back which they did the following day. Also this is a One year contract so if you sign it you are most likely stuck with the $35 payment for the whole year. Please save yourself your hard earned pay and buy your med supplies online. Local gov or Non-profit is great for vaccines. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THESE HACKS!

Example #1- We repeatedly requested, from each location we visited, that we have the opportunity to see the same doctor each visit. We've called the hospitals prior to each visit to ensure they would be seen by the same doctor, and each time that was not the case. This lack of commitment to our animals and connection with them from the hospital staff led to two of our animals dying prematurely from issues that should have been caught during preventive care exams.
Example #2- We had a Boxer, his name was Sargent Brutus Pepper. He was about 7, had just been to a preventive care exam with Banfield Hospital in Mission Gorge - 2 weeks later he has a heart attack. When we took him to the emergency room the doctor said that he had an enlarged heart and he was no longer eligible for medication as it was too late. How is it possible that our dog was at Banfield and sent home with a clean bill of health yet two weeks later his heart was so enlarged that treatment was too late. He passed away within a month of being seen by a Banfield doctor.
Example #3 - We had a cat, his name was Skunk who was also a patient and had been since he was a kitten. He had a tumor in his stomach which ended up killing him - again the doctor sent him home over and over again confirming the cat was ok, until the tumor got so large that it was too late for treatment. What were these doctors looking for during these so called "preventive care exams"? We are very disappointed by the services and will no longer work with Banfield. We feel they have let us and our animals down. I hope my feedback helps prevent other animals from dying before their time due to negligence.

My 9 yr old coonhound was ill, and I took her to Banfield where I had a wellness plan for her. They looked at her and were doing covered bloodwork, and told me that they needed an xray which would cost me approximately $250. They said bloodwork showed very high blood sugar and she needed emergency surgery for infected uterus, and suggested that I take her to an affiliated emergency surgery hospital because they don't do emergency surgery. They refused to inform me what the xray showed, and were avoiding my questions.
I felt very uncomfortable and thought that they were fleecing me with the xray, and feared what would happen at the emergency surgery, and chose to go to a different emergency pet hospital. The new vet told me that it couldn't be an infection because white blood cell count was normal. He also informed me that surgery for an infected uterus is very expensive, possibly as much as 9,000.00. She was given insulin for the blood sugar levels, lowering her level from 420 to 250.
I took her home that evening, and she died later that night from complications from diabetes. Banfield misdiagnosed her and just happened to do so where the diagnosis would cost me much money, and enrich them in doing so. I don't know if the delay in treatment caused her death, but I have zero confidence that Banfield cares for my pets health. It seems all they care about is money. Find an independent vet that cares more about your pets than he or she does about getting rich.

We took our English Bulldog in for a teeth cleaning appointment. Our dog aspirated due to stress as the "vet" worked on another dog next to the kennel they had him in. They let him spiral out of control and he dropped in the kennel. They did not intubate him and when my husband arrived they had ONE vet tech doing CPR and one administering fluids while the vet paced and did/said nothing. Then when we filed a complaint with the state licensing board all of the Banfield employees interviewed lied and said they intubated and that two vet techs did CPR and denied my husband did CPR on his own dog because no one else was relieve the ONE vet tech.
This vet still has her job at the West Valley City Utah Banfield. The vet was in over her head and did not know how to treat an English Bulldog and due to her ignorance our dog died. This company does not care about quality care, they only care about how many animals they can get in a day $$$. DO NOT take your fur family members to Banfield. They are not equipped to handle emergencies and they will not admit their negligence in the care of your pets. If you love your animals steer clear of any Banfield "hospital". I first went to Banfield because I found a coupon for a free exam for my pet. I at first thought hey they must care since it's a free exam. I was very wrong! Once I took my pet in they talked me into their wellness plan. They guilted me into thinking if I didn't do the plan then my dog's health wouldn't be good and I wouldn't be giving her the quality of life she deserved. By the time I left my "free exam" I had paid $265. On top of that I was now enrolled in a monthly plan for a year with the promise of good vet care. Every time I took my dog back for a checkup or anything I had to pay $100 or more. Even after my dog passed away I still had to make the monthly payments. They only care about money. Nothing more.

I took my 24lb dog in for a dental cleaning and xrays. I asked at least 10 times at the first pre dental visit, on the phone and when I dropped her off. I was quoted $445 but approx. $100 more if extractions are needed. The Dr called and said she needed 2 teeth extracted. The total was now $768. When I questioned what for, they were going to charge me for extra anesthesia, THE USE OF SURGERY INSTRUMENTS, and medical waste disposal. I was angry and asked why I was not informed of these other charges and the Dr said "So you don't want your dogs teeth extracted?" How dare she say that to me.
When I picked her up, while going over the bill with another employee, I was told, "well it would have been cheaper if you had purchased our wellness plan". (They spent almost 20min trying to get me to buy it at our first pre-dental exam which I declined because I'm retired and could not afford it.) I told the woman that I took offense to what she just said because I felt it was a slap in the face because I could not afford it and it made me feel low. I also had called 2 other Vet clinics in Tucson and they both told me they do not charge to use their equipment. BEWARE, what they quote you is FAR FROM THE TRUTH!

My sister adopted an 8yo male tuxedo male cat a little over 2 years ago. The only problem that was reported to us from his previous owner was that he was prone to UTIs. We had him on urinary health food the entire time we had him and he never had a flare-up. Immediately after adopting him we put him on a Banfield wellness plan. He had his regular 6-mo vet visits, got regular blood work and everything. We were never warned that his levels looked off or there was anything to worry about.
Just 5 days ago he crashed hard; no energy, hadn't eaten in a few days, wasn't drinking water. We brought him to the emergency vet and they found that he was extremely anemic (red blood cell count of around 10% rather than the healthy 24%), had an enlarged spleen that was leaking fluid, and he was running a fever of 105. We ran every test you could think of and even had them do a complete blood transfusion. Nothing helped. One morning the emergency vet called us to let us know that his red blood count - though not back to normal - was stable. Even though we hadn't yet received any of the test results, we took him home. Later that day we were back at the emergency vet because his breathing looked very labored. He was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (enlarged heart) and fluid in the lungs. He was just getting worse and less than 12 hours after readmitting him, we had to put him down.
The reason I say Banfield is to blame is because today (2 days after he passed) I went over his lab results myself - looking up all the abnormalities that were reported over time (and there were a LOT). All signs pointed to anemia and the beginning stages of congestive heart failure/hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. This was chronic. His blood work showed these abnormalities for at least 18 months, and not one of Banfield's doctors could put 2 and 2 together! In the end, my sister and I spent over $7000 in emergency care, and our beloved cat suffered needlessly.
Poor little Charlie. He was only 10 years old, and he still had so much joy to give. Now my sister still has to pay for his wellness plan until the contract is expired. Talk about adding insult to injury. By the way, this is our 2nd cat whose hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and fluid in the lungs was misdiagnosed. In 2015, my sister's cat (another tuxedo) was showing signs of labored breathing and we brought him into Banfield.
The doctor was squeezing Milo's chest and abdomen and said that it was probably something related to the kidneys or liver. (I can't remember because I was so incensed that he was manhandling a cat in pain like that.) He didn't even listen to his chest! A week later, really late at night, Milo jumped off of a chair he was sleeping on and came over to lay down right in front of me - he was mouth-breathing. My sister and I frantically drove him to the emergency vet. He passed before my sister could carry him through the front door. The vet said his lungs were full of fluid.
I can't imagine that with our two deceased cats and all the other horror stories on this forum that all of this is simply coincidence. I think Banfield is extremely negligent in how they treat (and especially diagnose) the animals in their care. My own cat has been on a Banfield wellness plan since she was 6 months old (she's now 12 years old). I'm not even going to wait for her plan to expire. I'm going to get her in with a reputable, local vet before Banfield misdiagnoses her, too. Or worse.

We recently adopted a new puppy as a companion for our other dog. We decided to give Banfield a try to hopefully save on the cost of shots and spaying. We scheduled our first appointment, but ended up coming in for an emergency visit early because she had a significant amount of vaginal discharge. First, the vet could not even say vagina without giggling and made several comments to my boyfriend about how "awkward" it was. Then they flat out refused to run any tests, and insisted that this was totally normal. Also, they had minimal interactions with our puppy, which I found weird because when we take our other dog to the vet, they are constantly petting him and speaking in soothing voices to him. After this appointment, I was a little put off, but decided to switch locations and give them another try, thinking that the problem was the doctors.
A month later, we went in for her second round of shots at the new location. The doctor and vet tech came in, introduced themselves, gave her shots and left. I had to ask the lady at the front desk if I could speak to them further. When I mentioned the discharge issue and her frequent urination they said it wasn't worth it to do the test. I am not a vet, so I assumed they were right and left.
Two days later the discharge was way way way worse and she couldn't hold it for longer than an hour. I called to schedule a urinalysis and they told me I would have to drop her off between 8-10am the next day and pick her up around 2. I arrived to drop her off and while we were checking in, in the lobby, the other dog in there became extremely aggressive and attacked her while she was standing between my legs. Luckily, the owner yanked him back before he did any real damage, but our puppy was obviously a little traumatized. Not a single staff member intervened. Once back in the room, they asked what time I wanted to pick her up (2:30pm), told me they would call with the test results, and took her back.
At 2:00pm that day, I still had not heard anything from them so I called. Whoever answered the phone informed me that they had been "unable to attain a urine sample." I found this extremely, extremely hard to believe considering that she had been there for 6 hours and couldn't hold it more than an hour at home. At this point, I realized that they had either forgotten about her or that they had simply let her pee on herself in the kennel, neither of which made me happy. I asked them not to do the test, and told them that I would be picking her up early and switching to another vet. When I got there, they insisted that they had given her a bunch of water and she just never peed. I watched three other people come in after me and pick up their dogs before they brought out our puppy.
As soon as they put her down, she peed all over the floor, further proof to me that they had not even tried to get a urine sample. I also noticed that her stomach was covered in blood. When I asked where it came from they told me she came in like that. She absolutely did not. I have been picking her up every single time she went to the bathroom to check for discharge. I also examined her closely after the dog bit her in the waiting room. There was no blood before she was there.
After we got home, I also noticed several sores on her stomach. When I called to ask about these, they told me again that she came in with these, she obviously did not. As soon as we got home she ran to the water bowl and drank for about five minutes. I absolutely implore anyone thinking about going to Banfield to reconsider. I am not one to write reviews, but I am deeply, deeply concerned about my puppy and feel that, at best, the Banfield staff was neglectful and uninformed.

Took my pup to see one of the vets due to his difficulty to walk. They ran bloodwork and said everything was normal. They said he was having difficulty due to arthritis (this was a sudden change). Took him home and gave the pain meds they prescribed. A few days later I had to rush him to the ER vet because he had collapsed due to a ruptured mass that caused internal bleeding. I showed the ER vet his recent blood work and she noted that his platelets were WAY off and that the doctor should have red flagged that immediately. He could have died suddenly but we were lucky. He had an emergency surgery and was diagnosed with a very aggressive cancer and I continued aftercare at Banfield due to my Wellness plan membership.
Unfortunately, I lost him 6 months later. In the meantime, I did not continue with his vaccines because of the cancer and when I lost him I called to cancel my plan and they told me that I needed to continue paying until my membership ended in November and that as a courtesy they would give me a tiny discount. So bottom line, the care you get is not great and unreliable. And if you buy the wellness plan just be aware that you will have to continue paying for it even after your pet passes.

Two hours later, my dog couldn't get out of his bed, would not eat, and started vomiting. We gave him the ** and he got worst. We took him to the ER and they gave us different possibilities for his sickness and gave him something for his nausea. We came home with him and the next morning took him back to Banfield to his doctor. They put him on IV since his has not eaten and some other medications. Later that day, they charged me and told me to take him back to the ER. He was admitted to the hospital on Monday evening and Tuesday they ran tests on him and advised me to euthanize him because he had cancer, bacteria in his cells, and a hole in his intestines. They said there was nothing else they can do for him.
My dog was put to sleep on Tuesday, February 12 at about 8pm. It was the hardest thing I ever had to do. Jimmy's doctor claimed he was an old dog and the vaccinations probably triggered things that was wrong with him. If that is the truth, how come it didn't show in his blood work two weeks ago. These people should be held accountable for their actions. I've spent so much money on hospital bills and paying them for the visit when my dog was sick. I currently have 5 dogs on wellness plans with Banfield. All enrolled at different times. First dog I enrolled there everything was fine and I always highly recommended Banfield, my sister got her 2 dogs on there and my mom signed her dog up there due to me telling them it was great. When I signed up my 2nd dog there all was well. However, they did not sign him up under the same account as my other dog which has created problems every time I visit there and try and make appointments. It always takes them 5 minutes just to locate his account. I've asked if they can add him in with the other dog and they say it doesn't work like that. I would have to cancel his account and start it up again. Joined with the other dog and would have to pay the $75 initiation fee AGAIN even though it was their error to begin with.
Fast forward, my boyfriend got a dog and signed him up there and they offered the wellness plan that included neutering but that it needed to be done within the first year. So the neutering was being billed every month for a year. He didn't end up doing it within the first year, which is 100% on us. But when I called to inquire about it I was told there was no way to do it now, the year had passed. So even though we paid for him to be neutered they won't do it nor refund us any. I asked why it needed to be done within a year and the answer was that's just how the system works. When the contract renews nothing rolls over to the following year. So while we are 100% at fault for not getting it done, there is no real reason as to why they have the plans set up this way, except to make more money. Everything else about them is usually pretty standard, but their practices are questionable.

Our pet died more than 8 months ago and we are still paying Banfield health insurance. Nevermind the fact that the only time our pet needed a vet was when he suddenly got sick at an age of 10. It was a Saturday and even though we live in a metropolitan area, there was no help from Banfield. I call around and the few places that were open on a Saturday, was already fully booked. I ended up having to go to an emergency vet instead.
After our pet died, I tried to cancel my plan. Banfield makes it very difficult to cancel a plan. On the website you can only set your plan to not renew for the next year, which meant I had to pay Banfield another 10 months. Everything else requires a phone call. They have limited phone hours and long waits. When we finally got a hold of someone at the Banfield office, they promised to terminate the plan immediately, but they never did. They just set it not to renew, which means I have been paying health insurance for a dead dog for the last 8 months. They did send a condolences letter, which means they are aware that our pet has died, but find it acceptable to keep charging us. Bottomline: - Don't use Banfield, if your pet has the audacity of getting sick in a weekend. - Be aware of sleazy cancelation tactics. Making it difficult to cancel a plan, is the sure tell of a company you should NOT do business with.

I was charged for an office visit 59.95 for an office and again a quickly physical and rectal plus cost of vaccine and my dog shook and cried the whole time.

Next vet cleaning his teeth decided to pull all of his front little teeth on top and bottom "without" my permission. Of course, was not happy and contacted her right away. She stated since one of little teeth was loose so the rest should be removed. Omg! What gave her right to do that, my dog is almost 10 years old... There were about 15 teeth total removed! It is traumatic enough going under anesthesia, being an older dog and just getting few teeth pulled let alone almost 15 teeth. She should have called me before she removed any additional teeth. It has taken me this long to complain about this, was even more traumatic watching him try to eat different missing all of those little teeth!!
When I spoke with vet she had little to no remorse of what she did. She simply said she thought she did what was needed and said was saving me $$$ in long run. Omg!! Very uncalled for, unprofessional and just flat out incomprehensible. I am no longer going forward with a wellness plan with Banfield due to this situation. I have had other incidents at this same Banfield and I unfortunately did not do anything about being mistreated then. Please advise, I do not think their staff is there to care and help your pets... Felt like it was about what they want not the pet's needs or customer's needs. Terrible service!! Stay away from Banfield. All the other bad reviews speak for themselves too!!

I had a plan with Banfield for 10 years for my little dog Zoey. When she passed I called to stop the plan. I was told I still had the plan for several more months at $500 and I saved $800 this year. You take the lower number and she said they would be nice and take 1/2. So I would still have to pay 2 months. This is crazy. Don't take a plan with Banfield. Huge scam! Very disappointing. Guess it's in the small print.

My dog Rocco who we took over the care for about 3 years ago had been treated by them for that time & had a wellness plan with Banfield. On 1/7/18 I took Rocco in because he was sneezing, the Vet gave me a Rx for sneezing & medicine for a yeast infection in the ears, not telling me that it could cause loss of hearing. If I had known that I would not have given my dog the drug. After the second day I noticed my dog was deaf. So now I have a dog that is not only blind from being a diabetic that should have been spotted much earlier and now cannot hear! On top of this he talked me into upgrading my plan & gave me a bill for $344.00 in addition. DO NOT use them in Rancho Santa Margarita Ca.

STAY AWAY! The first time to the Spanish Fort location I went several years ago, the vet said my dog needed a skin biopsy for mange, when it was very clearly just a scar. I refused the biopsy but continued my Wellness Plan because the Mobile location was always so wonderful with my other dog. Earlier this year, at the Spanish Fort location, another vet tried to prescribe my dog ** to treat acid/vomiting caused by her kidney disease, despite ** being contraindicated for kidney disease. (This treatment could’ve accelerated my dog’s renal failure simply to treat a mild SYMPTOM of the kidney disease.)
I decided to cancel my plans when they expired - one in April and one in September. So, earlier this month, I went in for my wellness visit covered by the plan before it ended. The vet tech told me rabies and 1 more vaccine were due in 2 months but they could go ahead and do them. I knew we already had these vaccines in my current Wellness Plan so I asked the tech to be sure that these vaccines were covered under the existing plan, NOT under the new plan because I was not sure if I was going to renew the plan. The tech assured that the services were covered under the current plan and proceeded to perform them.
At the end of the visit, I was asked to sign the electronic pen pad (that you have to sign to check out your dog at the end of every visit), and the pen pad just had a box to sign in. It didn’t tell me what I was signing, and neither did the tech. I thought it was just to check out my dog. Nope, they renewed my plan early (even though I told the tech I wasn’t sure if I wanted to renew) and used services from the new plan that weren’t covered by the existing plan (even though the tech told me they were). When I disputed this days later, the practice manager accused me of lying, said I knew what I was signing and that it was made clear to me, that the tech claims she never had this conversation with me, and that I owed about $550 if I cancelled the plan (yes, $550 for unnecessary bloodwork I didn’t know was being performed, 2 vaccines, and a fecal test).
After some back and forth, the practice manager agreed to drop all charges except $150, which I didn’t agree to because I was told up front that everything was covered by my Wellness Plan that I had already paid for over the year. The practice manager then agreed to write off the whole thing, but I’d be banned from all Banfields in the future, to which I responded very calmly and politely that was ok because I didn’t trust their vets and described the situation where the vet prescribed a medicine that my dog couldn’t have. The practice manager then became extremely angry (despite me being calm and meaning no harm other than to express why I was ok with not returning), told me he changed his mind and was going to charge me the full $550, and that I didn’t go to vet school so I have no idea what I’m talking about, before he hung up in my face.
TL;DR: This location has friendly yet inexperienced vets, techs who are unfamiliar with the plans/services they offer, and practice managers who blame customers instead of holding employees accountable for their mistakes. They overcharge and perform unnecessary services without your consent. See a real vet who cares about the well-being of your pet more than their own wallet.

I have used several times (4) three for shots and once for an ill cat. When I called to bring in the cat I was told there would be tests required in excess of $250 bill. Was over $400. The vet said there was nothing wrong. She gave me some meds and said cat was just old and this would help with her joints. After a few days it continued I called back, could not talk to the VET. So no help or follow up. Well for short after several days the cat died. Never received a call follow up from vet. Looks to me just a money machine and has no compassion for clients or animals. I will never use them again and pass it to anyone who asks.

I have 3 dogs, 1 13 year old Chihuahua all of 4.5 lbs and 2 -2 yr old American Bulldogs. I put all my dogs on the wellness plan, the optimum plan for the 13 yr old dog, which was to include teeth cleaning and 2 comprehensive exams per year and the bloodwork. The 2 younger dogs were on the puppy plan. I just cancelled all plans for all three dogs. Now get this, the plan for the 13 yr old dog is $53.95 per month, which equates to $647.40 per year. She went twice to get her parvo, distemper & Bordetella shots, her fecal and heart worm test. Or as Banfield calls it her Comprehensive exam. Her rabies was done 3 years ago and is not due so was not done. I chose not to have them clean her teeth this year due the last time Banfield did it she struggled to come out of the anesthesia, so needless to say yes, it should be done, but not at the risk of possibly killing my 13 yr old tea cup Chihuahua.
So as said earlier, when I called to cancelled the jerk I spoke to did everything in his power to get me to keep the plan. The 13 yr old dog's plan is due to renew in April 2019 and this guy told me that I still owed Banfield 3 payments at $53.95 because of the 2 visits. My dog did not use any of the dental services or anesthesia services I paid out of pocket $400.00 for her last visit, but yet I still owe them $160.00 for services rendered. Really guys, I would think that I shouldn't have to pay the $160.00 because I didn't use all of the services. (ie the dental portion. So what they really are saying to me is that each of the 2 visits in one year for this tiny dog cost them $323.70 in services provided per visit.
Also the last time my 2 yr old female was at Banfield she was traumatized by those people. Like wanted to eat them, my husband had to go in the back and get her out of the kennel. So needless to say, I have found a new vet who actually does free work in our community for the strays, which is pretty cool and she is a very sweet and caring woman with reasonable fees for her services. After using Banfield Pet Hospital for the last 3 years, I'm done and recommend to others If your pets are part of your family as in like 4 legged children, beware when considering a Banfield Hospital. There are lots of other cons and a few pros that I can list but the money part is what really got me. Buyer Beware.

I took my pet in for teeth cleaning and pedicure. My pet has extreme anxiety. The agreement was to do the pedicure while under anesthesia. The Veterinarian when talking to me I asked why her nails looked so long. She shows me how she almost cut the quick (spelling) and had to stop the bleeding then realizes "oh it looks like I forgot to cut them" she tried to grab my dog to do her nails, which my dog snapped at her. I was not going to let them traumatize my pet any more than what she already went through. There was NO understanding on how this was a major mistake.
I pay for the Wellness plan and had to pay an additional $675. They still charged for the pedicure and I had to ask for the credit. The 1st visit they gave her a rabies vaccine she was not due for. They had her medical records and failed to look. They gave a prescribed for a cream for her bottom that cost $28 and was not need. He bottom was not red or irritated. They charged for a pedicure and anal gland secretion the 1st fist but due to her anxiety (which is why we made the agreement to do her pedicure under anesthesia) was not able to do it. They still left it on my bill.
Again I had to make sure to ask for them to remove it. My pet means EVERYTHING TO ME. They had no understanding of how I felt. Yes I did get very upset. The lady up front told me "stop being a **." When I asked for the supervisors number they told me they had to check because it was a HIPAA violation to give me her number. But they did not have a problem giving me another customers receipt with all his information. (Phone #, name address, payment method, pets medical problems and name). I'm sure he did not appreciate me calling him to let him know what they did.
I never got a follow up call to see how my pet was doing. I told them I will post what they did and was told it was slander. Banfield, the employees, the Wellness plan is the worst. I have no problems letting everyone know my experience. I believe word of mouth (Facebook) is a great way to spread the word. So my advise to anyone is STAY AWAY FROM BANFIELD AND THEIR WELLNESS PLAN.

He resides in North Carolina. I’m in Maryland. I tried to get medication so I can take her to get nails trimmed. They could not refill without seeing her. When I asked how can I take her without the medication they said they would give her a shot when she got there at a cost of over $100! I’ve tried to cancel wellness plan and take her to my vet but even though the payment is coming out of my account I'm not allowed to cancel. It seems he has to write a letter or email to cancel!
They are very unprofessional. When I take her they always have attitude as if they don’t want to be there. When I called customer service I had a 45 minute wait for a callback which turned out to be an hour and they were very unhappy and rude that I was trying to cancel. I tried another number which is supposed to be an advocate and they were even worse. I feel like they have no interest in either your animal or customer service. Just want your money. I do not like writing bad reviews! My dog visits more than a year Banfield, we bought an annual plan. (I read the recommendations of other users and waiting for the end of the first year to cancel it.) In September 2018 (3 month ago), we had a routine vaccination. I still do not understand why the exact same procedure for my cat, (but my husband goes with her — costs ten times cheaper, by the way, he paid $25 for a cat, and I am $250 for a dog. It seems that the most thing they doing it sales, and sales by pressure and intimidation.) So, in Sept I discussed with the doctor that in January I want to change Heartgard to the Revolution, they did a lot of tests, I asked to write out a prescription for the Revolution, and the doctor said that everything would be in the system, available at any time!
But not available! A week ago, I personally with a dog came to one of the hospitals to buy Revolution, which the dog will need in a week. I was sent to the same address where we vaccinated. (OK. But you know that when you try to make an appointment, sometimes you have to choose the address where there is time to receive, because most of the time people also work!) For some reason, in a rather aggressive form, the clerk said that I DO NOT NEED A REVOLUTION... THEY DON'T ADVISE IT. It confused me and I had to interrupt the receptionist, saying that I rely on the recommendations of friends and other users!
I arrived at a different address. They told me there that they only had a revolution with home delivery, which I had to pay a considerable amount plus the cost of the medicine clearly exceeded the cost online. Then they offered me what is in stock, very expensive. I explained that I would order online! They confirmed which information I should provide for ordering online (hospital name and doctor's name). NO ONE TOLD ME THAT THE DOCTOR NEEDS TO CHECK OUT MY DOG TO BE ABLE TO APPROVE REQUEST FOR AN ORDER!
On January 12, I ordered the Revolution on CHEWY.COM (which, by the way, I was advised in this hospital). Today, January 16, the hospital did not respond to 2 requests from CHEWY.COM. I called the hospital, where the operator told me that I should bring the dog to do a test again! Here I could not stand it. Yes, I spoke loudly to insert my question into her monotonous reading "No, we cannot," "Yes, I understand you," but the OPERATOR STARTED SCREAMING ON ME! Sorry, but the client here - I am! And it's not my fault that there was no response to 2 requests.
What's the matter with the heartworm infection medication? I tried to switch to this medicine 6 months ago, but there was exactly the same situation: I place an order on the Internet, but they cannot receive confirmation from the vet! Give the recipe to my hands in this case! I can send a fax to CHEWY or other company and I can receive medicines on time! By the way, I spent 4.5 days and my dog should take the Revolution in 2 days!
Then I called the hospital, which is closer to me, explained the situation, wanted to make an appointment for this test but in different location and THEIR OPERATOR TOLD ME that I DO NOT need to do this test. Seriously guys! You make it all too complicated! Your service is not convenient, I have less and less trust in you. Take the money, but let me save my time and avoid stress! Be people, help your customers!

I went to another Veterinarian clinic close by the next day and I was told I was the 2nd person there from my Banfield that had been denied an apt and it was only 10 am.
My dog did have a bladder infection and a double ear infection and after paying for a office call, urinalysis testing, and medicine it cost me almost $300.00. I did go back to Banfield two weeks later for a recommended follow-up and complained to the girl at the desk that denied me the original opt and she lied to my face that she did. And I also told my dog's Veterinarian about what happened and how I had to go to another clinic. He charged me for another urinalysis and $80.00 for “stronger” medicine he said she needed.
When all said and done I spent over $400 between the 2 clinics. I also ask the Vet that in the future if my dog were to get sick where should I bring her? He couldn’t answer me. I complained to the “supervisor” of the office staff and I asked her the same question about where to bring my dog if she were to get sick again, couldn’t answer me other than this place is for “preventative care” only. She did say she’s going to pay my next 3 months of my Banfield Pet plan. Well that didn’t happen.
Now the company wants to charge me another $8 on to my Pet plan when my plan renews. Don’t think so. No way will I renew. I should have read all the Banfield bad reviews before I went to Banfield and signed on for the pet care plan. By the way I could write more about a few other bad experiences I had there but not enough room. This was with Banfield Pet Hospital at the quarry in NE Minneapolis, MN.

He was then diagnosed with advanced asthma and was in the hospital for 3 days. This was not the first time that we had taken him to Banfield. He had been seen several times by the same Vet for coughing spells. Each time she prescribed antibiotics which would help for short periods of time. But on those visits his symptoms were relatively mild in comparison to the distress and difficulty he was having this last time.
Had the Vet been a better diagnostician, she would have realized that he was suffering from Asthma all along. We now have 3 oral medications to give him and 2 inhalation medications to administer. We have to take him back to the hospital for reevaluation into weeks and hopefully get a better sense of what his prognosis will be. The ER Doctor saved his life for now.

We have had our two dogs for a little over a year now, and we have been taking them to Banfield on a regular basis for simple things like regular shots and what not. No big deal, never had any odd experiences except for this last time. After the shots, they supposedly performed a SNAP test on one of our dogs to test for heartworms (we didn't witness the test), and the test supposedly came back positive. And of course, we thought this was extremely odd considering we've never missed a single monthly heartworm prevention dosage for either of our dogs, so we insisted that they repeat the test. So, again, apparently they repeated it and the result was the same. So, we paid extra for them to take a blood sample from our dog so they could send it to a lab for testing, and then left. The following weekday, we took our dog to a local vet to get him tested for a second opinion. And of course, there was nothing wrong with our dog.
The test came back negative. SO, fast forward 2 weeks later, we never hear from Banfield. No test results. So we gave them a call. Well guess what? They told us that the sample they sent to the lab got lost in transit! And that's when we just lost it on them. We insisted our money back and told them the results were bogus from the beginning and they know it. These people are absolutely clueless and the organization is crooked. They knew what they were doing by falsifying test results and lying to the customer. This could have gotten really bad if they denied us a refund. We will NEVER be going back there again. I would highly advise anyone to stay far away from these crooks.

The operator was very apologetic and gave her condolences but then proceeded to tell me all they could do was charge me for 5 instead of 8 more months. I know they have a business to run but if I am no longer using your services because my dog has passed, the least you could do is allow the customer to cancel the plan. I had the pet hospital bill as proof of my dog’s time there and passing. I wish companies would be more sympathetic in situations like these. It’s unfortunate they are not.

These doctors are inefficient, incompetent, and extremely negligent. My dog was having vomiting and BLOODY diarrhea. For a whole MONTH, I took him to them about THREE times. They couldn't find what was wrong with him. Of course, all they needed to do was a simple blood test to determine what was the cause. However, instead they were VERY adamant and kept insisting he was fine. They kept prescribing him a bunch of medications which made him WORSE and of course not knowing what was the cause. Finally after 3 fecal exams and a bunch of money and time wasted, I went for a SECOND opinion, it turned out my dog had a TUMOR in his LIVER. My dog is dead because of them. I am extremely LIVID at how negligent these doctors are. Please guys don't waste your time and money with them.

Our dog was attacked by another dog. Our vet was unable to do an urgent care appointment so we took him to Banfield. He had a laceration repair and was at the facility for 4.5 hours. Ten days later when we were able to remove his sutures and bathe him we found he had a louse infestation. He was treated by our regular veterinarian.
He is a 9-year-old German Shorthair. We have owned him since he was 7 weeks old and he has never had lice, fleas or ticks. He does not go to dog parks or have play dates. He is an indoor dog and lives in a very sanitary environment. The only place he could have become infested was during his 4.5 hour stay at Banfield. When we called to talk with them about this their receptionist was very rude. She tried to deny that the paperwork from our Vet stated definitively that he did indeed have a louse infestation. My vet called Banfield and faxed our paperwork to them. It took three days for the manager to call me back and he said I could not prove it happened while he was there for his laceration repair so they will do nothing to rectify the situation. I will never return to them and would encourage others to steer clear.

I took my dog in for an upset stomach and rash. The assistant first suggested we do a blood test. Ok, I want to be thorough, so I agreed. Then she says the total cost will be about $350, but if I signed up for the Wellness Plan, it would be $150. I declined. Then the doctor came in, listened to the details of his symptoms, and took him into the back area for an exam. When he came back he said the blood tests looked good, though there was a slight elevation in a liver enzyme. He quickly suggested a supplement for his liver and added that he would give him a shot for nausea. I had already told the doctor that my dog's appetite was fine and he drove happily in the car ride, so I questioned to myself why that was necessary.
The doctor then left, leaving the assistant to let me know that the bill for the day was now $750. The nausea medication turned out to be **, which they charged me $200 for. But if I wanted that Wellness Plan, it would be $350. I declined the antioxidant supplement prescribed for the liver enzyme, which lowered the bill by $100. So an upset stomach turned into a $750 bill. I feel that the doctor and assistant had a pre-arranged hustle in which the doctor would casually call out some prescriptions and procedures, leave the room, then have the assistant say how much it would cost.
Without the doctor present it's much more difficult to discuss why any of this was necessary. I'm not using the word "fraud" here, but I left feeling that the doctor and assistant had a premeditated hustle to extract as much money out of me as possible. They exploited my love for my dog to get as much money from me as possible. Banfield Pet Hospital's business plan is devoid of ethics.

Stay away from this company. They will reward customer loyalty with condescension and fees that magically are due when you cancel. I am easily swayed into understanding policy that requires extra payments when you cancel if the rep is able to conduct themselves professionally. I had the distinct displeasure of speaking with Joshua of the Wellness Plan Dept.
After explaining why I was upset at the arrangement he decided to take it upon himself to tell me I was incorrect and elaborate on my life choices, insinuations about neglect of my dogs' care (They are like kids and need care he tells me. Thanks Sherlock.) and general ignorance of what is essentially a ridiculous plan designed to make it frustratingly hard to get free of without feeling aggrieved. Stick with your local vet, ignore this sham company. Level of care and service is inept, customer service is on another disastrous universe. I hope their reps stay loyal in their roles, it gives me satisfaction to know they will go on to do GREAT things from there.

I have called their customer service line (which took me seven calls to finally reach anyone) to call and cancel and they told me I can’t till the end of my coverage. I have two dogs who I care very much for so I was convinced to get a wellness plan for each of my dogs. I have been with Banfield over two years now. At first they were very helpful. They called to set up vaccinations when the pups were due. The plans included teeth cleanings once a year for each dog. Now that I have given them $114.00/month for both of my pets for over two years things have become more laxed. They no longer call to set up appointments when my pets vaccines are coming due. Causing them to lapse in continuous treatment.
They told my wife that dental cleanings were no longer a part of our plan. Whenever I call to get my dog into see a vet, they're always booked out at least a week. Now to top it off they claim we're under an "automatically renewed" contract. An "Evergreen Clause" if you will. Customer service is terrible at best. I would not recommend anyone sign up for one of these plans with Banfield. I wish I never had.

I called Walgreens at 8:06 pm and they had not received the script. I called Banfield and left a concerned message about it. I called Walgreens back at 8:20. There was no script. Banfield claimed they called the script in at 8:25 pm. Yet, they never bothered to call me to tell me they sent it in, and they never put a rush on it so it sat, unfilled, at Walgreens as of 7 am when I was able to contact the animal hospital at opening. A stray cat that was believed to be a pregnant female was presented for examination at Banfield Pet Hospital (Wesley Chapel location). In the course of the exam the doctor, Dr. Matthew **, even went as far as to say he could feel the cat’s uterus. X-rays, although declined at the time of the initial exam, were recommended in order to “confirm the pregnancy.” Additionally, the cat was found to be FIV positive. Dr. Matthew ** stated that normally they would euthanize in this case but since the cat was so far along in her pregnancy that he did not recommend euthanasia in this situation. Weeks passed and no kittens arrived. Having become concerned that the cat may have miscarried and needed surgery we requested a second exam. Banfield was overbooked that day so we took the cat to another local vet. This vet immediately diagnosed the cat as a neutered MALE (with a distended abdomen), and therefore obviously NOT pregnant.
It concerns me greatly that Dr. ** could have performed an exam (which we paid $48.95 for) and not have correctly identified the sex of the feline. I made several visits/phone calls to Banfield over the course of several weeks and was told each time that I would be contacted by the office manager, Veronica **, to discuss. At no point was I ever contacted. The fact that there has been no follow up makes it clear to me that they have no interest in admitting or discussing the error. My main concern at this point is that perhaps this is a veterinarian that should not be practicing. I would love to have discussed the situation with them. Perhaps they could have helped me to understand how such an error might have occurred. However, since they have declined my repeated attempts to discuss I have decided that leaving a review is necessary in order to warn potential clients of the negligence that Dr. ** and the Banfield practice have shown.

I just joined early 10/18 paid $236, for my small dog. After reading reviews l didn’t think it was worth them deducting $49 per month. When I tried to cancel they said l owed $326. l ask how that could be as if I’d taken her any other place I’d pay $75 office and about the same total $236 for the visit, only I wouldnt have to continue to pay them each month $49 for no service. I became more concern when l taken my dog a 2nd time to have anal expression costing $24, when at a regular vet I’ve paid no office visit and $15.
Banfield is like a bunch of fishermen. When you go in during real concern of your pet you’ll be caught like a fish on a hook and taken advantage of, they’ll sign you up and never tell you if you decide you don’t want to stay they’ll make you an offer you can’t afford. Yes I’ve paid already $236 for my dogs treatment. They were not to take out until 11/20/18 the $49 so to cancel again I'm told they want another $326. This is wrong and l think a class lawsuit should be put on Banfield for this practice. That service they have to my pet was not worth the $236, but on top of that another $326 a total of $562.00 for what? Therefore I'm stuck paying for a whole year because l can’t afford to give them $326.

My sad story: We went to Banfield and 10 days later my dog, Dug (~8 year old Rottweiler), was dead. He died from what they said was a surgical complication. What does that mean? Dug had surgery that was made to sound simple but later we found out the vet we were talking to didn't even have the experience to do this surgery, so they gave Dug over to another Dr to do the surgery (we had not even talked with that Dr). No one ever talked with us about outcome statistics, euthanizing options, or risks. After the fact, we found out that this was a MAJOR surgery and one person at the office told us they don't do a lot of major surgeries. From what I could read online at Dug's age the outcome of this type of surgery was 50/50. You should tell patients this!!! But why would they? They racked up over $2k in billings with us. What do we have to show for our $2k, a dead dog.
It gets worse. After the surgery he was so drugged up for a few days we could not tell if he was better or not. He was eating and using the bathroom but could barely move. Then he stopped eating and got really bloated in his midsection. The vet was calling each day to check on Dug and we told them he cannot move and was bloated, not eating or drinking so they recommended bringing him back in.
So we brought him back in, twice over two days, and they said he was fine and not dying. Dug would not get up, looked awful, but the vet gave him an ultrasound and gave him fluids under his coat to hydrate him Then told us to start force feeding him with syringes and special food that they sell. Now we are out even more money. After the second follow-up visit, they stopped calling to check on Dug. I believe they knew at this point something was wrong. They assured us "he is not dying". But he was and the next 5 days or so were cruel.
Dug only got up to use the restroom and lived the next 5 days splayed out on the floor, so sad. We had to force feed him and make him choke down their special food and as many as 12 pills a day. Dug did not want to eat and would shake in fear every time we tried to feed him. I lost 3 vacation days because I had to stay home to help feed Dug because it was a 2 person job every few hours. It was not easy to force feed a Rottweiler when he doesn't want to eat.
Finally, I said enough was enough and not how I want to remember my time with my dog. We brought him back in and this time they agreed he was not ok and was dying and put him down. Even sadder for my kids who had to watch all of this unfold. My youngest still cries most night as he thinks about his dog who looked so sick, scared, and splayed out on the floor.

I am shocked to see all the negative reviews. Banfield wellness only charges for services rendered. Since our dog passed we have to pay the remainder of the bill, not the plan. I was told they couldn't help me at all because they would have to put my dog under anesthesia, which I will not allow as she is an 11 yo Yorkie (which btw, our old vet took one of these off without anesthesia).
Even though they not only couldn't help, but they couldn't even give an estimate they sure as hell charged me $50 to do absolutely NOTHING. Why are you making appointments on a Sunday when you don't have the appropriate people on staff to do the job. I will tell you why they do it, so they can charge you to do absolutely nothing. I received a very heartfelt, warming phone call from Banfield first this morning and they are going to lower our plan cost so I won't be paying for the spay twice! Resolved with great customer service and concern for our situation!
Original Review: Oct. 30, 2018
I signed our puppy up for the Early Care Plus Optimum Wellness Plan that includes the spay surgery. She unfortunately has to have surgery at a different hospital (since Banfield doesn't do this surgery) for a liver shunt. It makes sense to only perform surgery on a tiny puppy once if at all possible so we are getting her spay done at the same time. I called the 800 number and was informed that they can only change our plan by shutting down the current one which requires a payment of over $400 and resigning a new contract. I have simply asked them to not charge us for a service they will not be providing and was blatantly told no, not without extra charges. We are already $7000 into surgeries and visits with this poor puppy and I cannot believe Banfield cannot provide another option in instances like this. Go to a reputable vet who is more concerned with your puppy's well being than the money they can steal out of your pocket!

From the start it has been a nightmare. My puppy had a UTI. That's all. They never gave her enough meds to get rid of it. She was on meds off and on for 3 months. They sent us to an expensive Urologist which said nothing was wrong. Give her a longer dose of antibiotics. So we did. BTW they are overpriced with their drugs. Then she was ok for about a week. Then she got diarrhea. She then needed probiotics. They should have known what all those antibiotics would do to her system. Then she had blood in her poop and I couldn't get an appointment for 2 weeks. Yes two weeks!
They are booked so far ahead you have to take your dog to another vet. They suck the money out of you and it cost you more than their plan does. They are not nice either. You can call corporate but it does no good. You are stuck for a whole year paying monthly payments. I give her the monthly heartworm meds and out of the blue they tell me she has to be seen. That they don't have a record of her ever having it before. That was a fight that I finally won by calling corporate. They do not keep good records. You can see it yourself online. Don't do it. We’ve been going back and forth trying to decide whether or not to have a liver biopsy done for our Yorkie. Well we finally decided to go ahead with it. So this morning, I take our sweet little Yorkie to Banfield, she’s weighed and then the guy checking her in puts the necklace name tag on her. Then proceeds to “tear” the excess off. I didn’t think to look at her neck then or to question as to why he didn’t use scissors to cut it off, because it didn’t seem to bother her at the time. Probably because I was holding her.
Well about an hour later I receive a phone call asking if I could shed some light on the bruise on her neck. I replied bruise on her neck?? What bruise?? (As there was nothing at all there before I dropped her off today). They said I would get a call back if there were any other questions. Well an hour went by and I didn’t get a call, so I decided to call them. I’m put on hold for a minute then the Dr. gets on the phone and tells me that due to the bruise on the neck and the fact that they don’t know if it was from this morning or if there’s some sort of an issue with her ability to clot, that they are not going to do the surgery and that I could come get her.
I get there and the Dr. explains this all again and then goes to bring her out to me so that I can see the bruise and she can tell me what to watch for. When I saw the bruise I immediately felt my heart sink. I think to myself what have they done?!? She says to make sure it doesn’t get any bigger. On the drive home I couldn’t stop thinking about the pain that she could be in and what else that they could have done to her. I wanted to take measurements so that I would know if it indeed got bigger over time. Well in order to do that, I needed to shave the area of her neck... after I got done shaving the area I was blown away at what I could see! It was so much worse than it looked while I was at Banfield.
I decided to take her back to Banfield and show them what they had done and also ask the vet what she thought of it now that she could see what they had done. They all appeared to be slightly shocked, I’m sure it was in part by the fact of how bad it looked, but also the fact that I was back there and that I had gone the extra mile to really make sure that her neck was going to be ok. She explained that she still thinks I just need to monitor the area and report back if things change. I can’t believe that in the end, they did nothing but hurt our baby. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET TO BANFIELD!

Had Banfield for about 4 years for my dog: It was very impersonal experience, my dog was always super-stressed about being dragged back out of site while they did whatever. So I asked to be in the office: Following that service time was horrible: Appointment opportunities were few and far between. (Although the person's that waited on us once we were able to get in were nice and friendly). Then when his teeth were cleaned they gave him too much something and they couldn't wake him up: Scared us enough to cancel the dental part of the plan.
Now that the dental is cancelled, we have been hesitating whether or not to go back. His spring check-up was unsatisfactory: No explanation for lumps and bumps except 'fatty' tissue. We found a vet closer that is friendly, personal, and is able to be flexible when the dogs have issues. We now want to cancel the Banfield plan effective of our original contract date but they are charging us an extra 9 months because they say our plan date changed when we cancelled the dental (when they almost killed our dog). We will not use the service in the next 9 months: We don't trust them but they insist on getting the free money after their poor dental performance. It seems like a good plan on the outset, but you get mixed in with the masses and if you want personal, quality service for your animals go somewhere else!

I had been with Banfield for 22 years. I had just renewed my plan for my three dogs. One of them became ill so I took him in. He had diarrhea and hadn't eaten in a couple of days. They did blood work and his liver enzymes were elevated. The vet said that he would need an ultrasound. I had lost my Yorker about six years prior to liver cancer, and they had performed an ultrasound, and it was also on their brochure and their website. My sister also had her dog at the same Banfield four months prior and her dog had an ultrasound as well. So I decided to up his plan noting the ultrasound would be included, and my plan would be an extra $15 per month.
Once I signed everything I was told that they don’t do ultrasounds. What? They don’t do ultrasounds. A basic procedure for a dog? A procedure that has been done prior, that was on their brochures and their website. Why didn’t they tell me before signing the paperwork? Then, they proceeded to tell me I need to go to Blue Pearl an emergency vet about 15 minutes down the road because they are getting ready to close. Ok? So I get my sick pup in the car, they fax over the bloodwork (mind you I’m pissed), and I get there, and I explain the situation and they put me and my dog into a room. They check him out and then they tell me they don’t have an ultrasound tech and that I would need to come back tomorrow???
I’m in tears and they also charge me $320. Mind you Banfield sent me there. I take my sweet boy home and by then he is really sick. I’m up all night, and I put a post on Facebook. I go to another vet that was suggested and had high ratings. I get the ultrasound that afternoon, only to find out that my sweet dog has pancreatic and liver cancer. By then he had started to turn yellow. He’s little and only weighed 7 pounds. I had to put him to sleep. What kind of vet charges you a wellness plan $55 per month, and only provides you with vaccinations and basic care? They are not a vet anymore. They are basic. A money machine.
I stopped payment for all three plans. I called them several times and explained what happened. They were very sympathetic. But they did nothing. They still wanted my money. For a full year. Even though they costed me money by sending me to a vet that couldn’t perform a procedure they couldn’t, and the vet they sent me to couldn’t. They are horrible!

Fine, not happy but can't do anything about it. It is now May of 2019 and still being charged. Original Review: So the vets and staff are very friendly at all the facilities I have taken my pet too. My complaint is that they sell you on their wellness program but do not explain the cancellation policy or how the plan actually works. You pay payments for routine things you think are included in the plan but then you take your pet in for the exam and they do more to your pet that is not included in the plan and you have to pay for it too. And then if you don't ever take your pet in, all the money spent the prior year does nothing. So you pay for a year, your pet is never seen and yet all that money is gone.
You take your pet in for the routine exam they tell you to bring him in for and it is more than what the plan costs and you have no choice than to pay for it. Nothing is ever explained. Only found this out because my husband lost his job and we have only used the plan once in two years. Tried to cancel the plan but can't because apparently I still owe money for a visit I was told was included in the plan.

On June 3, I had to put my dog to sleep per Banfield doctor advice. His wellness plan had just renewed on May 20, 2018. Once I noticed that I was still being charge around June 20th I reach out to the clinic. They advised me that I was responsible for contacting the wellness plan directly to cancel plan because all they do is indicate not to renew plan from their end. I called the 1-888-649-2716 and was informed that I owe $525 because they ran a blood test for his seizures. I have to wait until year May for plan to cancel. My dog was a patient from Banfield with the wellness plan since 2007 when he was a puppy. I have emailed and call to escalate but have had no luck.

Dog dies and they make it into an accounting problem - I had Banfield's wellness plan for 12+ years with my dog. He passed away suddenly last week and I called Banfield to cancel the plan. The plan had just renewed in August and I had gone in 3 times since then for office visits to change medications and observation. No x-rays, MRI or extensive testing. We had one blood test that we paid for. When I canceled they said that I owed them approx $370.00 for those visits. They take what you would have been charged if you did not have the plan and deduct your payments. After getting very upset with the rep, she took half off.
I am VERY angry. I have paid into this plan for 12 years, most of them with little or no use of the plan, he was very healthy. How about we base the accounting off of 12 years of payments and they can pay me back for services unused. I am appalled at their lack of caring that my dog has passed and even calling in to cancel is extremely difficult and heart wrenching. To pull this kind of crap on pet owners who are mourning their loss is unbelievable and totally cold and uncaring, just out for the bottom line. So sorry your pet died before the expiration date on the plan. Big suggestion for Banfield, if a pet dies before the plan is up, write it off. Pet parents will more than likely have another animal and you will make up your "losses". We had our last dog on your plan and you have made plenty off of us. Stop being driven by the bottom line at a very vulnerable time for your clients. I don't know how you sleep at night doing this.

Canceled their plan in January and letters never stopped. Pay already more than $300 this year and they don't stop billing us and calling us. That 'Client Advocate Team' of theirs is a joke (877-500-2288) that make you hold for a long time and they said that they need to 'escalate' to somebody else. Please, somebody tell me how to get rid of this crooks!

We took him in on a Sunday morning at 8 a.m., they called me at 11 a.m., told me they had finished cleaning his teeth, and had found 4 loose jaw teeth that needed pulled... I knew it was a scam when the vet told me they could go ahead and pull them while Tucker was still asleep. I asked the cost and the vet said she would give me a discount and the cost would only be $450.00.
I told her I was on my way to pick Tucker up and to not touch another hair on his head. The next week I took Tucker to another vet and asked him to check Tucker's teeth, he looked at Tucker and told me his teeth were fine. I called to complain and told them I wanted out... no dice, they made me pay each month for a year. These people in my opinion need to be put in prison, I know of people's pets who have died in their facilities and they still have to pay for the insurance for the entire year. I am glad I found this site, please keep me posted.

DO NOT PURCHASE THE WELLNESS PLAN. GO TO ANOTHER HOSPITAL. They are in it for the money, sure they are friendly. Friendly doesn't mean honest. When I purchased the plan 3 months prior I was told I could cancel at any time, no cancellation fee, or hidden fees. EXCEPT they forgot to mention that I would be charged with the entire year, except they split it monthly. Not once did they say this plan is a complete charge, but you pay monthly. They mislead me into believing that I could just cancel at any time and not pay. But when I went to cancel they told me I owe them $300 for the remaining year. Such BS.
I am in the process of fighting this. I will not be paying for this. PLEASE go to another hospital, somewhere else, anywhere else. Somewhere where they will be completely transparent with you. They are salesmen, the doctors seem incompetent, they messed up my dogs shots once. The doc couldn't get the needle in my dog. He just kept poking at him. Please do NOT get scammed like I did.

The staff was friendly. This place should only exist as a vaccination and microchip stop. Do not take your pet here for any non routine issues. They operate like fast-food, McDonalds, Walmart, and that’s fine for vaccines (I hope), and filling prescriptions. Do not ever take your pet here hoping to find a life long vet. Google Humane Society in your area. I would rather you support them.

Be very wary of their wellness plan. My dog passed away one month after it automatically renewed for a year (which I was unaware that it did, because I was not told and failed to see it in the paperwork). Now I have to pay 11 more monthly payments for my dog who passed away less than a month into the automatically renewed contract.

Be warned - Banfield is a scam and they do not care about your animal. They are only in it for the money. When I got my puppy, I had looked around for vet options and thought that the most convenient one would be the Banfield at my local PetSmart. I signed up for one year of puppy care (a puppy Wellness plan) that included a neutering at the end of the plan. Post-neuter, the "vet" (I don't think I ever spoke to an actual veterinarian at any time) prescribed my dog **, which I had to pay for. Beware, the plan does not include many things that you might think should be included.
Long story short, ** almost killed my dog. When I asked about this, they told me that it couldn't possibly have been the ** and basically told me to change his diet and hopefully he would improve. HOPEFULLY? After doing more research I found out that ** can be harmful to a very small percentage of dogs, and for that reason a liver test is usually performed before prescribing it. Did Banfield do a liver exam? No. Did they accept responsibility, say sorry, try to do ANYTHING to make my situation better? No. It wasn't the reaction to the meds that made me angry, because my dog just had a bad reaction to it. Stuff happens. It was their flippant response and utter lack of any responsibility that really made me angry.
Another problem is that my plan auto-renewed after the initial year of puppy care into an "Adult Wellness Plan" WITHOUT AUTHORIZATION. There was no discussion of this, no signature, no letter, no email, NOTHING. This is a total scam on their part. When I called to cancel, she cancelled it and told me that most customers choose to roll their puppy plan into an adult plan. Oh, so most customers don't care about not being notified of this? Again, total crap. I paid for 4 months of care that involved absolutely nothing, not even a phone call, that I never authorized and they wouldn't refund my money. At least they didn't try to make me pay for the remaining 8 months (I've been reading on here that that's the experience of some people), but still - they took my money from me without authorization.

I would never bring a loved pet back here again. Brought my dog in for a snake bite, the "VET" had no idea how to treat it, she had to call the NC state vet school. I've had this before and told her antibiotics and pain meds. "Oh we have to get an IV in her." Oh no you don't. That is traumatic on her and money to boot that is unnecessary. 2 1/2 hours later mind you they didn't give her pain meds until almost 2 hours later when I complained I had been waiting for over 45 minutes and they said, "Oh we had another emergency before she came in." Really no one said a word about that when I came in, nor did anyone come to the nor to tell me that.
One staff member was very rude and I wish I'd seen her name cause I'd call her out on it. Her comment was we weren't the only ones there. Really over a 2 hour visit for pain meds and antibiotic isn't a reason to be mad nothing is. She doesn't belong in a public job and the "VET" has a night job and that's cleaning the floors 'cause she had no clue at all.
