My husband & I adopted the most adorable St. Bernard puppy in May, 2018, he was 3 mos old when we brought him home, we named him Ziggy. Unbeknownst to us Ziggy's fun, carefree life would be quickly interrupted at the age of 5 mos. He came down with some unknown illness that first presented as lameness and quickly morphed into bacterial infection throughout his little body to the point where he was in severe distress. From mid-July to early August our days were spent taking Zigg back to emergency vet hospital (he was hospitalized 3 separate times) and each time still the Vets were not sure he would survive this ordeal. Primarily because he was a puppy and his immune system not fully developed. We had many scary sad nights, but throughout it our Vets never gave up hope they would find what was wrong with Zigg.
Happily today, Zigg has been home (for more than a month) and is well on his way to recovering. His diagnosis finally came that he had the dog version of MRSA (serious bacterial infections). Through all of this, we never once lost any sleep on how we were going to pay for Zigg's care. We found out luckily, that the breeder we adopted Zigg from had never canceled his ASPCA Pet Insurance. His coverage was for accidents/injury and paying up to 90% of bills. Submitting my claims for reimbursement was one of the easiest things I have ever done (too bad human health insurance isn't this simple). Went to the website, uploaded receipts, doctor's reports. ASPCA representatives emailed me immediately stating claims were received, and kept me informed of how they were progressing. ASPCA reps contacted the Vet directly, I did not have to be an intermediary.
My first set of claims were reimbursed (at 90%) within 2 weeks of submission, my 2nd set within 1 week. I cannot stress enough the fact that we were dealing with life threatening issues with our baby boy was beyond stressful. NOT having to have to worry about how we were going to pay for his care was beyond a miracle. Going thru what we have with Zigg, I realized I needed to get coverage for my 2 older dogs, Clay & Finn (Golden Retrievers - 8 & 5 years of age). Now I know I will never worry about caring for their medical needs in the future. If it ever occurs again, I know ASPCA will handle everything for us and all we have to do is focus on getting our babies well.
And on a separate note, whenever I did call ASPCA with questions or concerns, their very first question upon identifying me was "How is Ziggy?". It was incredible to have such care and concern with a representative whose job (really is to sell insurance). But the folks on the phone were truly caring and were concerned and you could feel it, it was not at all insincere. And even now almost a month since my last submission they were calling to follow up and see how Ziggy was doing, it was like talking to friends. I know there are many people who do not understand the connection we have with our pets, they are our family and to many of us "our children". And like any parent we love talking about our child, the folks at ASPCA understand this and are happy to hear our stories.

I'd like to start by stating this is not meant as an angry rant, rather an informed warning to anyone else thinking about "donating" to this insurance company. We have 2 rescue bull terriers, being rescue there is never any guarantee of pedigree and consequently one of the girls is not the healthiest. We have submitted 4 claims for her and 2 for her sister, we have been denied every claim. Between them had cherry eye, allergies, bacterial build up, vomiting and ear infection. Only one denial was valid and we were caught by a pre existing condition. The others were genuine illness but were denied all the same for a mix of false pre existing and outright nonsensical answers. To me if illness is covered and your dog is ill you would expect insurance to come through. I shall now be saving the $80 per month we donate to this insurance company and instead save it up for any future vet bills. Do not use this company, they only take.

Like other pet insurance providers, we do not cover pre-existing conditions. That being said, however, with our plans a new instance of a pre-existing condition may be covered in the future if 180 days have passed since it was cured and treatment free.

Thought plan was great until I needed to use it. Claim was denied as illness was diagnosed at the end of the plan period and treatment extended into the next year plan period. The plan will only cover cost for illness which manifests itself within a plan period. You cannot forecast when your dog will get a disease and need treatment. This insurance is totally useless for me as my dog will need treatment for the rest of her life and insurance will not pay for any of it. After 10 years of paying into a level 3 plan I have canceled it as it is of no use to me.

ASPCA Pet Health Insurance is simply the best. They have the best customer service... Their team actually makes personal phone calls to check on you and your pet. And they really care. Their app is super easy to use. Claims are simple to submit, and the reimbursements are very fair. I recommend pet insurance to every pet owner, and specifically insurance through ASPCA!

Started a little slow, with all the processing but after everyone got coordinated (ASPCA, Vet and Me) things have been great since. Highly recommended cause pets can be very expensive to care for correctly. As a puppy, Sadie, had some early age issues and ASPCA help to cover the expense of getting her "right".

Unfortunately, we have had to use this insurance MANY times for ALL kinds of crazy reasons, circumstances and health scares. I am glad when I was looking at pet insurance that I first of all decided to definitely purchase it and that we did so through the ASPCA. They are caring and quick and NEVER has argued a claim, paying everytime. They care about your pet and always follow up to see if they are feeling better. Best decision besides picking this particular dog to fall in love with, was picking this insurance to care for him.

I signed my 9 year old dachshund Winston up with ASPCA on August 1st 2016 with no preexisting conditions. Winston was healthy until June 2018 when he was diagnosed with Lymphoma (a quick growing cancer that has a prognosis of two months). For the first time in his life he had an illness that was severe & needed treatment. I was thankful I had put so much money into ASPCA to help prolong or save Winston’s life. However, because of ASPCA’s FINE PRINT, they do not reimburse continued treatment after the renewal date (because I started my pet insurance on August 1st, they refuse to reimburse should his treatments continue beyond this date, although the yearly limit they claim they will reimburse is $3,000).
This violates the agreement that I & many others might assume as they CLAIM to provide reimbursement for bills accrued due to illness, accidents, etc. Additionally, I am now paying even MORE based on the interest that has accrued on my credit card with claims taking 4+ weeks to clear (while also receiving up to $300 less on each claim submitted). This is a grave injustice that I feel I have experienced at the detriment of my pet’s lifespan.

They are not worth it. They find any part to call it pre existing. They don’t call and ask questions. They send letters of denial and assume you’re being dishonest. You appeal it, then they still deny it for another reason. They are rip off. Not worth the investment.

They really care about your pet. Their App makes it very simple to not only submit a claim but check on the claim. It's all so very easy. It seems a bit pricey at first but if you do the research you will see that they offer more. You get what you pay for and the price for me is worth my fur-babies health.

I never knew that pet insurance existed until I wound up with a sickly pup. ASPCA pet insurance is understanding and prompt with every claim. They even check up on your pup after you file one! My own insurance doesn't even do that. Reimbursing claims for everything from cellulitis to allergies, I really appreciate everything they do.

My experience with ASPCA animal insurance has been extremely positive thus far. Upon calling and asking questions about either the plan or what it includes or excludes, in addition to questions corresponding a claim, I am always greeted by a friendly and knowledgeable customer service representative. Moreover, I have always received a follow-up call from one of their team members, checking in on the health of my puppy, when she has fallen ill. Which is such a grand personal touch. It’s greatly appreciated at a pet-parent. I have recommended ASPCA pet insurance to others, and feel confident that I will continue using to myself for my dog.

My poor dog drew the short straw as far as injuries and ailments. If not for ASPCA insurance I would not have been able to provide her the care she needs. Constant ear infections, food allergies, cranial cruciate surgery, (one down,one to go)???? A true godsend!

We had a pretty good experience with our ASPCA Pet Health Insurance provider. Our cats (2) were recently diagnosed with urinalysis tract infections and one underwent surgery, so I was extremely happy with my decision to get their health insured. Everyone was very pleasant and helpful each time I called and the claims were processed and paid promptly. We recently renewed for a second year, so would recommend to anyone who would like to keep their pets healthy and give peace of mind that they won’t be caught in a bad position should an accident or illness arise.

Recently had to make a claim on the insurance from ASPCA pet insurance and was happy with the results. They paid out what they said they would. The app wasn't the most user-friendly and found that it was best to just fax everything to them. That was easy for me but may not be for everyone. It took a while for the claim to be processed but I think that was mostly due to using the app. Now that I know the easiest approach, the next time should be quicker. Overall was pleased with the experience and will recommend to friends and clients of the vet clinic where I am employed.

I rescued 2 little souls and never expected to be in the emergency vet with one of them within 6 months. Claim was handled professionally and fast. Preventive care visit was as well... never expected to be reimbursed for preventive. So worth it for the cost. Would recommend ASPCA Insurance to everyone with pets!

When my Yorkie mix had to have knee surgery, I had to use our ASPCA insurance for the first time. They were incredible! They kept me informed as to where the claim was in the process, if the needed more information from the vet. They also informed me that the vet had not yet gotten back to them and that I might want to contact them as well. Nothing ever got lost in the cracks! They paid my claims in timely manner once they finally got the information they needed. The process couldn't have been more seamless! We will be staying with them for the life of our pets if this is how they treat their customers! They are the epitome of customer service!!

I love this insurance. I tell all my friends and strangers who are out walking their dogs to get this insurance. They are great to work with, friendly and actually provide genuine coverage that really helps from getting broken teeth pulled to back surgery. They are a must have.

I been with this company for a long time, when my dog was younger and rarely get sick. Now my Pomeranian 11 year old everything change... she had broke her hip. Took her to the vet. My bill was over $400, ASPCA did reimbursed me after deductible. I got $46. However my dog has to go back to the vet because the medication make her sick, second bill they don't cover because pre existing. The third bill my vet cannot treat her unless she had to have sonogram. The bill was $650.
ASPCA denied same thing pre existing. When I sign up with ASPCA state that any new condition will be cover. Sadly my dog get getting old and my renewal coming up ASPCA will change her policy. They will not cover and waiting period from six month to a year. The people rate ASPCA rate 5 star because your dog is young, I was one of them. If you look all the review old dog being toss without coverage. ANIMAL CRUELTY. After being loyal customer for years. Government need to step in to protect dogs no matter how old they are. They are the one take money but will not give good coverage to older dog. That why nobody want to adopt older dog. Who is the one being animal cruelty.

My big dog Bandit tore his ACL and required surgery. We took him to a canine orthopedic surgeon in Hinesburg. The cost of the operation was over $2500 and I had my ASPCA check before my credit card bill arrived. ASPCA is prompt and caring. I received a phone call from Bob at ASPCA a few weeks after I received my check inquiring about Bandit's health. They really care and are there for you when needed.

I wish my monthly payments were lower. On the other hand the deductible is low so after one teeth cleaning for our little Silky, the deductible is met. Filling a clam is super easy and I get my refund in about two weeks. Overall I like knowing if something happens to my dog, I don't have to see my life to cover it.

Overall good experience. The plan is not great about taking claims and notifying you if there is any data missing. I have found I have needed to follow up on several claims. Very nice customer support and have approved all claims to the extent of the plan.

This is our first time ever having pet insurance and are thrilled with how caring they are. Several years ago we lost our beloved cat to illness and an inability to pay for extensive care. Couldn’t be happier with my pet health insurance. Unfortunately I’ve needed it a lot in the past year and it has been really easy to submit claims (super easy and quick online) and I get reimbursed in 3 weeks by direct deposit. It’s that simple. Also everyone I’ve talked to there has always been so friendly and helpful. They even helped me retain my original plan when I almost changed it and it saved me $2,000!!! Thank God! I feel like they really care about me and my Grace.

I am so thankful my friends urged me to go with ASPCA health insurance for my two big dogs. When an accident struck my Vizsla mix, and he couldn’t walk, I was overwhelmed with the potential cost of surgery. Because of ASPCA I was able to get him the healing surgery he needed and was not left in immense debt for years to come. Instead of working extra to pay off vet bills, I can spend extra time caring for the healing of my big man! PLUS, the app made it super easy to submit and track the processes of my claim, when I had questions, the folks on the other end of the phone were SO kind, communicative and understanding. I have been faithfully trying to keep my dog alive and happy since his terminal adrenal gland cancer diagnosis last fall. The vet visits and chemo prescriptions are very expensive and the ASPCA $3,000 per incident coverage limit, while helpful, only covers a portion of the costs. We have been paying into our policy for nearly 9 years, ever since we rescued our pup. Now I have just been told that his coverage will go DOWN for his "ongoing condition" once the year re-sets on September 1. Yeah, let that sink in a second. It's not a pre-existing condition, it's an "ongoing condition" for which we are only entitled $1,000 in reimbursement going forward.
What sense does this make? A dog, or a person for that matter, with a serious incurable condition, does not need LESS coverage as time goes on, they need more. When I called the company to discuss this I was told that there are newer policies available as of a year or two ago that have better coverage for so-called ongoing conditions, but I was never made aware of those policies and I'm just stuck with what I've got. It seems to me that the ASPCA in theory would share the pet owner's goal of keeping their animal healthy and happy and well-treated as long as possible. Who would create a policy that diminishes coverage for conditions over time? Only someone worried about the bottom line. Buyer beware.

They are very good about paying back the money you pay to the Vet. I just wish the monthly fee was less. It adds up to a lot after a year. I would also like to say that the representatives, on the phone, are very nice, warm and friendly.

My husband and I are very pleased with our ASPCA pet insurance. We had another pet insurance prior to us getting our current insurance. The people we spoken to are very attentive and care about our pet. Our dog Bella had 22 teeth extracted back in May. We knew the cost was high, but to our amazement we received almost the total cost we paid out. We received a call from you folks asking how our Bella was doing, and asked if there was anything we needed. I have been with them since I got my two pups that are now three. They have been great until I tried to change coverage at my yearly renewal. In order to change coverage within the company you have to cancel the current plan. So no pre-existing conditions are covered on the new plan that the older out of date plan did cover. Their plans changed so much that when I went to look at the new plans I would have been saving over $100 but was not eligible if I wanted my pets history to carry over. They do not reward loyalty or offer current members new discounts. Customer service was trash. They just kept repeating themselves and refused to take my concerns to management.

We have had ASPCA pet insurance for close to 10 years. Now that our cat is getting older and having some issues, I have found that ASPCA's barely covers 1/4 of the cost of any of the medications we purchase and sometimes closer to 1/8th of the cost and they only allow 75% of the cost on many procedures - and then I am only reimbursed for 80% of that, so they end up paying very little. California is a very expensive state. They need to adjust their rates to meet prices encountered here. They're very friendly on the phone, but need to put their money where their mouth. I would not recommend them as a good pet health insurer.

My cat developed melanoma of the iris. He had to have his eye removed. Thanks to ASPCA insurance it really helped to make this affordable to have done. Wittles is doing great with one eye. I would recommend getting this insurance for your pets.

Nothing but the highest regard for ASPCA Pet Insurance. Recently my son Gator underwent TPLO knee reconstruction. Everything regarding ASPCA went flawlessly. They also provided followup calls to inquire about the condition of Gator and how his post-op care was progressing. We have multiple pets. Our monthly fee gets high but the benefits are worth the expense. We are totally satisfied with the service. We have found reimbursement to easy and prompt. My only suggestion would be for a larger discount for multiple pets.

The ASPCA pet health insurance has the most courteous customer service. During a time when your best friend, in my case my cat Beezo, was so seriously ill from eating a poisonous plant. I had to go two emergency rooms, my regular doctor, she had to have ultrasound I was fretting so much about his health and also worrying about the cost of what this is going to cost me. When I sent in my claims they were expeditiously handled and they were kind enough to call me to see how my cat was doing.
I’ve never had such great service with any company but it is so sorely needed when people are so upset and they’re torn between not getting their cat or dog or any animal for that matter treated or not treated because of the financial burden. This is the first time I used it I was thoroughly impressed with all aspects of their dealing with me. I hope I don’t have to use it again, but the anxiety is taken away from me about having my cat having a serious illness. I know will be taken care of and so will my kitty.

Helpless, no timely follow ups, delayed claim processing, app is not robust and barely gives details. I tried to increase the insurance coverage in the future and never got a response back. The claims take WAY TOO LONG to process and the notification emails aren’t as prompt as it should be.

After losing my older boxer last year to cancer after he had just knee surgery, I decided to get insurance for my female boxer. I insured my younger cat as an afterthought. Bentley has been sick since March and just recently had a thymoma tumor removed. The insurance paid on all of my claims and within a timely manner. I was worried about what kind of an increase in premiums we would have since we hit the cap with Bentley. I was pleasantly surprised that our premiums will increase based on age, breed and area, not how much we used it. I was also called to see how we were doing on a couple of occasions since they could see that Bentley was having some serious health issues. That was nice and they also gave me some options for when we renew. I would highly recommend ASPCA Pet Health Insurance to anyone considering insuring their fur kids. It made health decisions a lot easier knowing that they would cover it.

Our son who has a dog just diagnosed with cancer suggested we look into pet insurance. We called our vet who recommended ASPCA. The rates were responsible for our two dogs so we signed. Our youngest dog developed a lump right after that our vet said had to go. We filed a claim and within weeks we had a check in the mail. Everything is done right on my iPhone. Easy. We recommend to all pet owners to buy this insurance. Gives a pet owner peace of mind.

We looked at a lot of different pet insurances before deciding on the ASPCA, and we're very glad we did. When our cat needed major surgery, ASPCA took the financial worry out of the equation so we could focus on getting him the best possible care. We were reimbursed very quickly after submitting our bills. When we called to check the status, the rep was super friendly and even helped us set up direct deposit to make sure we would get reimbursed as quickly as possible. I really appreciated the follow up calls to check in on us, and see how our cat was doing. They were really genuine. I would recommend ASPCA pet health insurance to absolutely everyone.

The first claim I filed back in April was handled quickly and the reimbursement was quick also. Now my second experience is a tad bit slower. I filed 3 claims for two of dogs almost 2 weeks ago, I have heard nothing, the website shows it's still processing. I emailed customer to see if they could advise the status of the claim. I am quite pleased with the insurance for my Siamese Kiriel. Claims are paid in a timely manner. I just wish you guys would cover prescription cat food. He has kidney disease and needs special food for that. Also wish you would reconsider pets with pre-existing conditions. That would help with adoptions of pets who would not otherwise be adopted.

I am happy that most of the expenses were reimbursed, but am not clear on why some of the expenses were not covered besides obviously the deductible. This insurance is the best thing that has happened to us since we got our two young dogs. Being raised from puppyhood, they had lots of random sicknesses, as puppies do. We were at Banfield through PetSmart but we didn't like the way they treated the dogs and their insurance was a rip off. We feel comfortable now and not stressed about taking our dogs to the vet. Also this insurance allows for us to see better veterinarians who treat our dogs with the utmost care. We know we will be reimbursed for most of the bill when they are sick or hurt. ASPCA usually gives me a call after one of my dogs has had several appointments to make sure they are okay. They are the best insurance. They really take care of us and it means more than I can express. Recommend to everyone. 10/10.

My experience with the ASPCA Pet insurance has been nothing but positive. Unfortunately, my cat became diabetic and has also been diagnosed with Cushing's disease, and thus I have been submitting claims almost on a monthly basis. I have always found the insurance people courteous, sympathetic, knowledgeable and helpful. The claims themselves have been recognized and paid within a reasonable period. Akron, OH - STAY AWAY from this insurance. This is a total scam. My dog a blood test with elevated liver enzymes for two years (high but stable), no other symptoms, healthy overall. I had the insurance with them for over an year prior to me submitting a claim for an ultrasound that the vet requested after the last blood tests (where the levels were significantly higher than even before and she had a developed a cloudy eye). There is still no firm diagnosis for why this is. But the blood tests from two years ago qualified as 'preexisting condition' even though at that point the dog had no symptoms of anything and they denied my claim. They are no way related to ASPCA the non-profit animal rescue. These guys are all for profit, not animals.

After some time I started getting emails from other companies with their promo insurance offers for my dog. Obviously ASPCA company was trading my emailing address to other companies. I have had my dog on the ASPCA Pet Health Insurance for 10 years. Recently, he had been diagnosed with discoid lupus which could be a lifelong condition. Upon submitting a claim, for tests and treatment which was over 600.00, the ASPCA Pet Health Insurance refused coverage due it being a "pre-existing condition". Come on, he only had it for the last six months. Their response to my complaint was that I had to upgrade his policy six months ago which I wasn't aware of and would have done had I known. My monthly bill was always paid by automatic deduction. I would suggest another Pet Health Insurance Company, but keep in mind all insurance companies set up loopholes to avoid fulfilling their obligations.

Remember if you read their policy regarding covering pre-existing conditions in 180 days it is a lie. If you ask them on the phone, you MIGHT be covered if they decide it qualifies. I added a policy with the ASPCA and thought with their new policies that it was a good choice. That couldn't be further from the truth, and I have already cancelled after less than 24 hours. They called to "welcome" me to the ASPCA and I proceeded to ask them questions regarding pre-existing conditions. The representative told me that anything even not diagnosed would be considered pre-existing. I asked then, since I had a situation where a dog was diagnosed with hip dysplasia after being x-rayed for a knee problem, how I could know all of the issues my dogs had when that dog didn't have symptoms. Keep in mind that I was clear during the conversation that the dog I asked about had an accident only policy and wouldn't qualify for illness coverage.
The rep then tells me they record these calls and they would refer back to this call AND review the medical records to determine if my dogs had pre-existing conditions. Her tone was accusatory and it certainly seemed like a threat to me. They refuse to review medical records and tell me what was considered pre-existing, and she just told me I could get a quote from the vet and submit it to see if I was covered. I told her I wouldn't even have anything to submit when my two dogs covered by illness and hereditary conditions didn't have issues.
They indicate these calls are recorded for quality assurance when they call you or you call them. Quality is not the reason for the recording, it is to try to get out of paying in the future Which by the way makes no sense, because my dogs I was going to insure were fairly healthy. They lost out on insuring three pets that are fairly young for life. And you should be VERY careful dealing with this business. Don't let the nice reps fool you, this lady was sickeningly nice before her threat during the call.

Stay away from this people, I've had them for some time. All ok while I didn't submit claims. Just paid the monthly fee, since May 2017 every claim I have submitted has been denied citing condition began on prior plan period although it is not true! Mind you claims have been for less than $300. Customer service does nothing, complaining gets you nowhere, they have pre-conceived ideas and applied them to deny claims. All they want is your money...stay away!!! Find a better insurance your pet deserves it.

My dog was diagnosed with a heart murmur in September. I submitted an estimate to my insurance company in the amount of $1,190 for the testing. They said they would pay $892 of that. The tests actually ended up costing only $638, so I submitted the invoice after they ran the tests. ASPCA Insurance said they would pay none of that amount since it turns out he has a congenital valve condition and they had a clause that said they would not pay for that. How convenient and how unreal that they didn't tell me that when I submitted the estimate. But I shouldn't be surprised -- there's always a reason for them not to pay up. This company has paid just $155 since I started the insurance in September 2016.
Meanwhile, I have paid them over $700 and I have paid the vet $1,244. So about $2,000 in a little over a year while they've paid just $155. And the sad fact is that now I cannot possibly enroll my dog with another insurance company, because it's a pre-existing condition. Now I need to save that $54 a month I was giving to them in a savings account to be able to pay for his next $600 testing in September. The operator says, "Well, you can keep the insurance in case something else happens to him." That would be great if I could afford it. I was trying to do the right thing and got unbelievably screwed. Talk about cruelty to animals. This company is a fraud and a scam. Don't make the same mistake I made and go with this fraudulent enterprise. They have an excuse for everything and won't pay a dime. They are just there to take your money.

I signed up with ASPCA Pet Health Ins. because of their association with ASPCA. I wish I had done more research on this company and read the reviews. I signed up for pet insurance in February 2017 hoping I would never need to use it. Unfortunately my cat became ill in September. It turns out he has IBD and a tumor. I now have several bills to deal with on top of ongoing medication. I submitted my first of several claims in early September and to date have been getting the run around. First excuse, was they didn't have the medical records needed from the vets to support the claims. After several calls back and forth to insurance and the vets, we finally got that resolved.
Next issue, they weren't paying out on my claims. Clearly this is a new condition not a Pre-existing. After several calls I finally got a response and a promise the claims would be paid. Two weeks later no payment made. Now they are saying my claims were within the 14 day waiting period. What?! I signed up in February and put my first claim on September 9th! Now they are giving me the run around! I am completely disgusted with this company and the games they are playing with people. My cat has cancer now and I was so happy that I had actually bought insurance early in the year thinking thankfully it will cover 90% of the ongoing cost associated with my cat's care. Now I'm screwed. DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THIS COMPANY! Chances are very high you will be one of the many other people complaining!

I have had ASPCA pet insurance for almost 12 years now and their service continues to get worse. They do not notify you if they are waiting on information for a claim, they look for anything to deny claims and have a slow processing time. I will be leaving them after 12 years and 2 different pets. Their prices are also extremely inflated with caps on everything while several other companies do not have limits on payouts.

Got insurance, about a month later went in for a regular checkup/shots for my cat and unfortunately was quickly back with breathing problems that were dx as asthma. Neither the routine checkup and shots that should've been covered or the xray/asthma visit were covered despite how they were within the time frame the insurance says will cover these AND they were well within what the insurance says they cover. I submitted my claims and a few months later realized they were still processing one from so long ago and I sent in the invoices and medical records - there's no reason it should be processing so long unless you're just trying to string someone along.
I called and got an overly peppy call worker who said they'd call the vet's office and get them to fax medical records they claim to never have gotten and then process the claim. Fine, that's fair, with how expensive vet bills are I can wait a few days or a week. They claimed later to never get medical records from my vet and that they kept trying and just weren't getting through. I smelled ** so that Monday I called back, still nothing, same story, and I called my vet saying what was up and apparently they did fax and email them the records multiple times and agreed to do it again and cc me on everything. This shell company is a lying, scamming crock of **.

This plan advertises 90% coverage... "Get reimbursed up to 90% of covered veterinary charges.* Our reimbursements are based on your actual veterinary bill. They aren’t limited by a benefit schedule, which pays a fixed amount per diagnosis, regardless of the treatments your pet needs. We also don’t exclude your veterinarian’s exam fee." However, the asterisk takes you to a disclaimer that they only pay 90% of what they think is an appropriate charge, which is nowhere near the reality of pricing at quality veterinary services. This is misleading at the very least, but I think falls more in the realm of unethical trickery. In addition, they are masters of nitpicking every charge and stretching to tie it to some clause in their exclusion list so they don't have to pay. They will not even pay to spay an animal, which is very ironic for an organization that partners with ASPCA.
Out of a bill of dozens of itemized charges for a necessary surgery and spaying totaling $3,256, they reimbursed a grand total of $100. The one charge they could not find an exclusion for, they didn't even pay half of the cost due to their bogus "benefit limit". ASPCA should be ashamed to associate with these crooks, and need to drop the partnership before more people are conned into buying a service that does nothing but give a false sense of financial security. I'm consulting with a law firm to discuss possibility of a class action lawsuit.

I have had pet health insurance through the ASPCA since my Boston Terrier was a puppy. She is now almost 9 years old. My Boston has had allergies for years. She has been treated many times most in emergency situations for spontaneous hives that cover her entire body and turn into half dollar size welts in a matter of minutes. Since she is getting older the reactions seem to be getting more severe where her throat now swells and breathing becomes erratic. ASPCA in the past has paid for the claims submitted up until this year. They state that this is a pre-existing condition and will no longer cover this. Since when?
I do not consider my Boston just a pet or property as the ASPCA claims their underwriting insurance company sees it which is despicable because the Aspca is suppose to be for the welfare and good of all animals - in fact they could care less especially about an aging animal who is in need of care. I kept this insurance and paid $70 per month despite the fact that I am currently unemployed due to loss of my mother so my Boston could be treated for illnesses which she had two severe reactions just weeks after my mother's passing and I'm sure the stress response and separation anxiety from the events that unfolded contributed to the reaction response.
My Boston takes ** year round to keep things at bay but sometimes that is not enough and she needs shots of ** and ** to control the severity- ASPCA WILL NO LONGER COVER THIS. Will they cover the side effect she has acquired from treatment of the ** now? Probably not. She also can no longer receive shots since she is allergic to those as well - which she could have died as a result of a rabies vaccine. The ASPCA should be ashamed to act in this manner and to have business dealings with such a disgraceful underwriting company who sees animals as "property". That is what puppy mills call their animals. Property and livestock.
You know the saying "you are who your friends are" well this same saying applies to the ASPCA and their business associates. They are all in bad taste - a wolf in sheep's clothing. NOWHERE in the policy does it state that allergies are not covered. Even though there is a 180 day period for a pre-existing condition to be cured or symptom-free they still disregarded this to the claim because my Boston takes ** year round... That's what keeps her symptom free. They are a bunch of nice customer service reps but I bet the higher ups are nothing more than money hungry who care less for the welfare of animals and only care for the welfare of their own pockets.

For whatever incidents we have had it's been a NIGHTMARE with these people to get your claim processed... not to mention there's a list of what isn't covered that surpasses the list that it does cover! Apparently at the renewal day every year everything that has happened to your pet will not be covered after renewal bc it's now "pre existing" so if your dog had a heart murmur that was grade 2/3 (nothing major) no meds or treatment - it was just found to have a murmur - well - later on IF the dog develops any heart issue - ANY heart issue that may not even be connected to the murmur - it WILL NOT BE COVERED. Bc there was a "pre existing condition" of the heart... Basically they use this to get out of paying claims with this clause.
I've only recently found out they've come out with a new policy that has "continued coverage will cover conditions found when (after) you purchase this type of policy for a hefty price per month." This is a rip off and I CANNOT BELIEVE THE ASPCA associates themselves with this... It's not about the wellbeing of the pets - it's the $$$. I will Never NEVER recommend these people - pet insurance is a great idea - but write the list of things they don't cover which will give you a good idea how screwed You and your pet will be.
Please don't even bother comparing or thinking about this insurance policy with ASPCA - I've had multiple animals all with a policy around same age and they all had claims denied even after the vet/surgeon made it clear it's not pre existing - but bc there's one mention of a possible symptom of a possible disease 4 years ago - (which the vet clearly told them is not the case). They still denied after the surgeon (after the call with aspca felt confident he made it clear and we should be covered). It's a rip off and someone should start a class action suit against this company - I'm sure there's thousands of stories out there like this - shame on you aspca. You rather a dog with life left be put down vs walk again after 7 years of paying insurance premiums... Never again.

They are saying on their advertisement that you will get covered after deductible. However, this is hell cheating. Once you submit your claims, they will say that they analyzed 100,000 claims and the average price is lower than your bill. They are allowed to pay only based on the average price, e.g. your bill is $1000, after $100 deductible you thought they cover 90% on $900. However, they say in your area, the average claim of that illness is $400, they cover 90% of $400, which is $360 only! This is how they cheat!

I've been using Nationwide Insurance for my Pomeranian for years. Once in a while my dog get sick I called customer service how to submit a form they seem to be that I bother them and it takes them a long time to response and cheap. They only want to take your money... Forget you. I changed to ASPCA. They are awesome and they will accept older dog with less money/ After 6 months my dog got sick, I submit my expense. Very simple. They reimburse in a week and give me a call to see my dog is alright. I really impress how caring of ASPCA.

I have submitted within the 4 years that I have been paying the ASPCA maybe 4 claims. My dog now needs a major surgery to help him breath. Out of a 4,500 estimate for the surgery the ASPCA is only covering 500.00. They say that now he's Congenital therefore it goes into a lower claims bucket. So after 4 years of paying 56.00 per month for my insurance this is how I'm treated. You have to love these people who are supposed to love pets and look at their best interest.

I first had pet insurance with ASPCA for my dog last year. They kept nitpicking and denying things that seemed like they should be covered. Many phone calls and appeals to get payment on claims that should have been covered. I was so dissatisfied with customer service and claim denials that I starting searching for a different company to switch to. I found one and actually had two plans running to compare them.
I called ASPCA and they said they could give me great and similar coverage if I switched to their "complete care." Well what they didn't stress enough was that now anything under the new plan that is pre-existing, isn't going to be covered. One of their reps said I shouldn't switch and another said I should. They convinced me and now, guess what? They're denying claims based on pre-existing conditions. They refuse to switch me back to my old plan and now.
Of course, they have now wasted my time and more importantly the money I've paid. Don't believe the sales pitch. They emphasize all they cover and minimize the issues you'll face when trying to put a claim in. They should switch me back, but now they'll lose a customer with 2 dogs. I'll save the money I would have spent and fund my own pets. I'm sure I'll save money in the long run and I'll certainly save my sanity. WORST COMPANY I'VE EVER DEALT WITH!

I was a long time member of 24PetWatch's insurance as it was offered to me when I first adopted my cat 4.5 years ago. When my cat developed stomatitis and had to have half of her teeth extracted, 24PetWatch refused any benefits because they do not cover any dental work. This after paying my monthly dues, never skipping a beat. I immediately canceled my account with them and switched to ASPCA insurance because they stated they would cover dental extractions. I did not even skip a month in terms of coverage.
As there is little known about stomatitis, and thus few treatment options beyond plainly extracting the cat's teeth, her disease came back and so I had to have the remaining teeth extracted from my cat's mouth. Now I am being told by ASPCA that this is a "pre-existing condition" and they will offer me absolutely nothing in terms of benefits. ASPCA insurance happens to be underwritten by Crum & Forster, the same company that underwrites 24PetWatch. I am filing complaints against Crum & Forster and will be continuing on to share my cat's story through social media.

I had pet insurance for my beloved cat who passed away a few months ago. I called them to discontinue our service. The next day I get a long voicemail from someone at ASPCA expressing their condolences for me losing my cat and going on and on as to how difficult it must be. They don't know me or my cat. I also lost a dear family member last year so this call just sounded fake and like an attempt to retain my business for the future. I was also dissatisfied with the last year of coverage. I paid a lot into it and they were always denying claims or reimbursing very little.

I know the ASPCA does not actually insure our pets but you receive money for loaning your name and reputation to an insurance company that actually underwrites the insurance. Therefore, I feel your name, your work, and your ethics are linked directly to the fraud perpetuated by the insurance company representing you, which is Hartville Group.
I encourage each and everyone who owns a pet and plans to purchase insurance, to avoid signing up with ASPCA Pet Insurance. We have never missed a payment on the policy covering our dog, Hogan, during the six (6) years of his life. We have also never needed to make a claim on his behalf until November 16, 2016.
It was pretty straight forward by any measure: Hogan's insurance automatically renewed onto my credit card on November 15th; he collapsed with right side paralysis and was hospitalized on November 16th. He underwent blood tests, a spinal tap, MRI, ultrasound, chest x-rays, and remained in a specialty hospital for 2 days, all of which was covered under his ASPCA Pet Insurance Policy.
The hospital staff filed his insurance form and sent it in on November 18th in the amount of $5,750.00. We should have been reimbursed or notified otherwise within 30 days. His claim was denied payment based on a story that does not exist, never happened. We were told by the Hartville Group that Hogan became ill on November 9th at a dog park! LIES! Hogan has not been to a dog park in 6 months or more and was perfectly healthy on November 9th as far as we could tell. He was out running at the various places he loves to be off leash on the 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th and he was running the fields of our local university on November 15th, off leash as usual, chasing rabbits. The 15th was the day we ran into one of the new coaches of the Rams training camp at the university!
His medical records show the Neurologist never met him until the late afternoon of November 16th. There is not and never was any reason to deny this claim. It has been 2 months since the start of this investigation and the insurance underwriters for your ASPCA have still refused to resolve this. I am now paying over $100 a month interest on a charge card to pay off the veterinary bill which should have been paid by ASPCA Pet Insurance.
We have donated a van in good condition to ASPCA; we have donated to all causes represented by your non-profit organization. The only reason we ever purchased pet insurance with this group was BECAUSE THE NAME ASPCA WAS ON IT! We thought it was yet another way to support your work. You have broken your good faith by not selecting a more reputable, caring, honest company to lend your name to. I will no longer support the ASPCA, as long as you link your name to an insurance company that typically screws their clients.

My dog had a stomach virus causing him to vomit and poop constantly to the point he was so dehydrated he could barely move. He had a fever of 103 and had to be put on special food and medication. They linked this to puppy poops from puppy food he had from his puppy exam when I first got him several months prior. These people will do everything in their power not to help you. DO NOT pick them for insurance. They will ** you when you need them most.

I received a call from Jeff, a supervisor at ASPCA Insurance Claims department. He mentioned that the department has re-opened the claim and found out I had the coverage and they will pay for some of the services. I have not received the check, but whatever the amount, I consider it a positive step and a resolution.

I have been with ASPCA Pet Insurance for 9 years. I luckily, my pet has been in a very good health and I have not had many claims with the company. Recently, my pet, Benzi, was a little lethargic and decided to check him up. The vet recommended a blood panel and urine analysis. Since Benzi had a blood test 18 months ago, ASPCA is refusing to pay for this year test. They want a proof that Benzi had a treatment since last year. I mentioned to them that there was nothing wrong to have a treatment, but they still refuse and asking for getting a statement from the vet, filing an appeal with a letter etc...etc...ASPCA is a bad company to deal with. Looking for another insurance...Wasted 9 years paying them. Do not recommend this company at all.

Save your money and self-insure!! They deny most claims or pay very little. If you go to the vet close to the end of your policy year and then must either go back to your vet or go to a specialist after a new policy year has started they will not cover the visit or the medicines as they consider it pre-existing condition. I am now paying $100 per month and they would not cover the specialist recommended by my vet because a new policy year started the week before my specialist appointment.

My dog was diagnosed with cancer in December 2015. Her policy renewed in January. Because her diagnosis was at the end of her 2015 policy, they are refusing to pay for any claim regarding her cancer in the new policy in 2016. Including her pain medication. I pay $57.00 a month for her policy, from what I thought was a caring, humane organization??? I will be bringing this into the light of all consumers, media, and anyone I can reach by phone, email or letter. I consider this inhumane treatment of an animal and it will not go unnoticed as my pet is family and there isn't anything I wouldn't do for her.

My 15-year old cat Ashley was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism last May 2015. He has been having blood work every few months. ASPCA insurance paid a portion of both bills. I renewed my policy in December 2015 and now ASPCA says they will not cover any of Ashley's thyroidism bills because he was not cured and not "incident free" for 180 days. A hyperthyroid cat is never "cured" unless they have the radioactive iodine treatment. They need constant monitoring of their blood. Save your money! Put aside money you would pay to pet insurance companies. Then they arbitrarily decide that what your vet charges is too much. I will NEVER recommend this company. The ASPCA should be embarrassed to have their good name associated with this awful company.

I have four dogs. As in the past I have always had pet insurance to offset veterinary bills. I had ASPCA for three and a half years on all my dogs. I had two claims for teeth extractions. ASPCA denied both claims for the two dogs citing they would not accept the manner in which the vet wrote up the invoice for services. When I appealed they denied the claim citing it did not fall into the category they allowed.
In 2015 I had to bring the dog to the vet to remove a cyst. The bill was paid and I submitted a claim for $570.00. Mind you I had the insurance policy in effect for into the fourth year. ASPCA denied the citing it was a pre-existing condition. I immediately canceled all policies and requested my credit card company to stop past and current payments. I just paid $1780.00 to renew the polices. ASPCA will do anything to deny claims. Read all the reviews you will see. Also read YELP reviews. I signed my 12 year old dog up for pet insurance after realizing how expensive things can get as he gets older. He had a reoccurring spinal issue which I understood from my previous scam Trupanion that could not be covered. I talked to Jason at ASPCA in September of 2015 and he was kind and made me feel he actually cared about my pet but kept pushing for me to sign up my puppy and I said that I didn't want to pay thousands of dollars for a dog who isn't going to need insurance for a long while unless he got hit by a car which I would never let happen.
I filed a claim in January 2016 regarding Buckeye my 12 year old who received tests to see if he had Cushing's Disease. It came back positive and I filed a claim that was accepted and a check sent. I was so relieved because if we were to choose to treat Cushing's it can be very expensive. I then received a phone call saying a mistake has been made and the claim is actually ineligible because he showed symptoms of Cushing's in June 2015. The check was cancelled.
If anyone knows about Cushings, the symptoms he supposedly had were panting and drinking water, what dog doesn't do that??? This ASPCA are the worst people out there. They prey on people who love their pets like family and would do anything for them but they have no intention of ever paying any claim unless you have been paying for 10 years for your puppy and by then you could have paid the costs of any test, medications or surgeries 10x over. I secured ASPCA pet insurance for my English bulldog since he was a puppy. (2007) Original the premium was $54 per month. His policy was Level 3 with $100 annual deductible 20% co-payment. I had a few claims for him during the first years. Everything was ok. His premium went up in a few years $65.76. A few more claims, did not get reimbursed 80%. Come to find out ASPCA Insurance would only 80% of "customary charges". I calculated over the years and this company really only pays on average 65%. Note that's... After your deductible and after your monthly expense out of your pocket.
Now I considered canceling but my dog is getting older... So naturally I thought now is the time I really need insurance. Buyer beware. If your pet has a condition and even if he is insured with ASPCA insurance once the policy is "renewed" they consider it a "pre-existing condition". I only found this out today following up on a claim filed in November. Buyer Beware!! Deceptive Practice!! This totally outrageous!!

This insurance did not cover any sort of illness for my dog. It was not helpful at all, and I feel that my money was completely wasted. Upon purchasing the insurance they gave me the impression that I would be reimbursed 80% for my vet bills with some exclusions on what type of vet service it was - it made sense that they would not cover vaccinations or preexisting conditions. My dog has been ill twice since I've had the insurance and neither of those bills were reimbursed by the insurance. The policy was not made clear and you have to read the fine print to really know what you're paying for, which isn't much. Basically, what this policy does cover sounds great when they explain it to you, but there are so many things that it doesn't cover.

I have had both my Chihuahuas insured with A.S.P.C.A. since 2007. They were 5 years old at the time and neither of them had any medical issues or pre-existing conditions. The very first claim I made was the same year for one of my dogs who became violently ill after eating something she found in my yard. She was going into shock and I rushed her to the ER in the middle of the night. She almost died, and ASPCA denied the claim. It was stated in the denial that it was not covered because my dog had a behavior problem. WHAT?? My dog does not have any behavior problems, it turns out she may have eaten a snail that was poisoned from my neighbor's yard, but I never knew for sure what it was she ate.
Later on that year, my same dog developed an allergy in her paws, probably from grass. ASPCA paid less than 1/4 of the cost for her medications saying that it was a fair and reasonable reimbursement. She continued to have allergy problems on and off, and they never reimbursed me what I paid for the exam or the meds. In 2009, ASPCA sent me a new endorsement that they were enforcing, and called it "Continuing Care." It was sent to me along with my policy renewal. It was explained to me that if I wanted my dog to have continuing care for any long term illness like allergies, that I would now have to pay an additional fee for the coverage, and it would have a separate $100.00 deductible.
I felt like I had no choice but to purchase the additional endorsement because dog allergies very rarely go away, and I knew my girl was going to need meds, probably the rest of her life. Since I purchased the endorsement they have denied every claim I have submitted for my dog's allergies. Their reason is because my dog had allergies prior to the endorsement. UNBELIEVABLE, HOW CAN THAT BE???
In May of this year, I had to bring her to the vet for an ear infection, it had nothing to do with allergies. They denied that on the basis that it was due to allergies, a pre-existing condition. I argued and told them that it was due to a fungal infection, not allergies and asked to speak to a superior. He refused to let me talk to anyone but him and it was like beating a dead horse. I am going to appeal every claim they have ever denied. This is not legal what they are doing and I am really hoping that someone files a class action suit against them. I'd do it myself, but wouldn't know where to start. They're scam artist and are taking advantage of a lot of people.

Where do I start. I was excited when my company told me they partnered with the "best of the best" for pet insurance. Boy, they really got that WRONG! I started paying for my pet insurance April of 2014. I am VERY fortunate that until August of 2015, I had no health issues with my boys. Nonetheless, I continued to pay month after month for TWO insurance plans for each of my babies. Now, come August. My baby Scooby needs to go to the vet. I'll spare the details, luckily, he is OK. Had vet fax over paperwork. Again, FIRST CLAIM IN MORE THAN A YEAR. Done. Now, cat and mouse game. For 3 weeks they tell me that they're not getting the "invoice" which shows I paid. I sent it 2 times, emailed it, and had my vet send it 2 more times too! Still, they were not getting it. Fed up, I decided to email the dog's medical records again.
Putting the invoice smack in the middle of it. Guess what? They got page 1-3, 5-7. But what about page 4? You know... the invoice. They "never got it". When I emailed them telling them I did this, miraculously within 5 days my claim was processed. Guess what?!?! THEY ARE COVERING $0.00!!! THAT'S RIGHT! After being told before taking my dog to the ER they would cover "most" (my bad for not getting exact numbers, as my dogs health was more important and still remains as so) THEY ARE NOT COVERING A PENNY. NOT A PENNY! So, more than a year of $200 per month, equates to them giving zero ** and having a nice payment from me monthly for nothing. DO NOT TAKE A CHANCE.

THIS COMPANY DESERVES THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS! I was promised that I would be reimbursed 90% of my veterinary bills when my dog was hit by a car. After the expected deductible, I was only reimbursed $1,350.00 of a $2,400.00 bill! When I asked why the amount reimbursed was so low, I was told "you are not reimbursed on the actual bill amount, you are reimbursed on something called USUAL & CUSTOMARY charges... the amount we deem as a fair amount for each portion of the pet's treatment"! What? I was told it was going to be 90% of the actual bill. I was then told "I know you are disappointed but you should have had a policy prior to this year... The reimbursements were even lower!" Shame on them :(

I cannot fault anyone on Staff for ASPCA. However their medical policies are misleading, to say the very least. After 17 months of membership with Sushi, my Shiba Inu, my veterinarian prepared a claim and fully detailed the entire reasons for the claim. Their first response was "not detailed sufficiently." Again, and with additional visits to the Vet added since this was NOT a wellness situation, the claim was denied. I had, at that time, had enough. I spoke with my vet and we agreed that ASPCA would no longer be recommended at their clinic. I am sorry to have to do a negative review since I have always respected the ASPCA program for assisting needy animals -- guess that is why I chose the pet program with the same name. Not so, and again, I am a reasonable, not negative person. Shame on the ASPCA Pet Insurance. They demean the real ASPCA with their policies for pet insurance and claims.

My dog Dakota is 13 years old. He has been with ASPCA insurance since 2008. Dakota has developed a heart condition. After taking him to the vet to get treatment I submitted the claim to them. They refused to pay saying that he had been diagnosed with the illness prior to the current billing cycle. This is not true since Dakota has been under ASPCA pet insurance since 2008 and he was originally diagnosed 2013. ASPCA misrepresents itself. I have never had them pay for anything for the animals that have been under the policy. They are quick to take money yet they always have a new excuse not to pay. I have seen many other complaints against them. Maybe a class action suit is in order.

I bought this policy (94.00), continuing care included and I took my cat for a check up since he was sneezing and paid 281.00. I took him for another visit, paid 46.00 and a third for 137.00. Long story short the policy does not clarify the addendum that nothing will be covered until you have the policy for two billing cycles. ASPCA is misrepresenting its product, fraudulently collecting premiums from consumers with the full discretion that they won't reimburse the consumer, falsely advertising its insurance policies. Time for a class action lawsuit against this fraudulent company.

I submitted a claim for my small dog, who got hurt while running and his left hind leg hit a hole and he hurt his knee and had to have surgery. Our bill was $2,365.62. My policy was $500 deductible with a 90% coverage by the insurance. They decided to put a label of congenital disorder and only covered $500 which is my deductible.

After years or ridiculous increases; I called and they said that my dog had reached the age where they were not going to raise my monthly charge anymore. Then months later they did raise it by 20%!!! I called and they said it was because of a "State Approved Increase" - on an Elected coverage, that I now cannot opt out of, and have never used. Now that my dog is 13, I have dental coverage?? What about the money I already spent? I said I thought I was "grandfathered in" like I was told on the phone, but they apologized and asked if I wanted to terminate the policy. SCAMMERS! There will always be increases! They are worst than the Cable Company.

I have had ASPCA Pet Insurance since 2008. I have had automatic payments to cover the policy which has never lapsed. In 2012, I had a claim that was denied because I was told I did not ask for an endorsement called "Continuing Care". I had no idea I needed to "ask" for anything as my policies always just auto-renewed. This "Continuing Care" allows illnesses from previous years to be covered again. In the past, they thought my cat had asthma so of course I wanted this endorsement in case anything happened in the future.
Last month my cat was having breathing problems and the vet couldn't say if it was allergies or asthma without many more tests. She was treated with over the counter allergy medicine and improved but I indicated it could be asthma or allergies. My claim came back and said they would not cover the costs because she had been diagnosed with asthma before I got the continuing care coverage. BUT WAIT - the coverage says if you haven't been treated in 180 days, they would cover. Now ASPCA is saying that asthma isn't "curable" therefore the 180 day limit only applies if the animal was "cured". Are you kidding me??? I have been paying $341 per year and now they are trying to find every trick in the book to avoid paying. I asked that they pull the actual recording from 2012 to review the call because this was not explained. If it had been, I would have dropped coverage.
I have had pet insurance since the late 80's and have always had my pets covered. I've used VPI, Pet's Best, GoPetPlan and ASPCA. ASPCA by far is the biggest scam!!! People need to know how bad this is and I plan to post on every website and on Facebook.

In July 2014 our dog Mindy was scared by fireworks and jumped off couch and hurt her back. We took her to vet, he referred us to surgeon. Mindy needed emergency surgery. We had accident insurance - claim was denied because insurance co stated it is a condition in her breed called ivdd. We have letters from vet and surgeon stating it was caused by trauma secondary to ivdd. Cost 7000 - policy should cover 4000. Claim denied. We plan on still pursuing this claim denial.

My dog Bo 3 years old needed surgery and it was very expensive. I did not expect to have it all paid but at least part of it. None!! I get phone calls from them that are at all times of the day including at night when I am in bed. A call at 3 P.M. said we will call back in a few hours regarding your claim. That never happens. They operate on a delay and don't pay program. I have a great grandson-in-law in Ohio who is an attorney and today hope to get him to take ASPCA Pet Insurance to court for all of us!!

My baby, a Chinese Crested, had a skin rash when I first got him. I submitted the claim and was never reimbursed. I've submitted quite a few claims and have not been reimbursed. When I called, they gave me a litany of excuses as to why I was not reimbursed. They told me that since the rash occurred within 30 days of my signing up for insurance, it was considered a pre-existing condition and would therefore not be covered now or in the future. I knew nothing about this 30 day period. They gloss over it and don't explain it thoroughly on purpose. Chinese Cresteds are notorious for skin problems, so for the rest of my baby's life, when he gets a rash and needs medicine, ASPCA will not cover it. There has got to be something we can do. It's disgusting. They're basically saying - if your pet gets ill on day 2 of the 30 days, you must wait and not get treatment until the 30 days are up. It's basically animal cruelty and they should have to answer for this. We must do something about this. I am livid. These are our pets. They are our family.

I have used ASPCA Pet Insurance for many years. During the last 2 years, they have grown much larger and are even now moving in to a bigger building to handle the larger volume of workload. They recently closed out a claim after only having it open for less than 30 days due to lack of documentation from the Vets involved. This was over Christmas and I even asked them to wait until after Christmas to give people time to respond. I was not consulted any longer, they just closed out the claim. I know now they were just trying to get rid of back log and old claims so they would not have to bother with them.
Like I said, they are getting too big to handle the workload. I had to call and request they reopen the claim and I was able to get the documentation from the other 2 Vets. They then only paid $6 on a $1500 bill because it was a 'continuing' problem over a plan period. I have proof that it was a different problem. aka, the skin bacteria problem was cured but then she got a skin lymphoma - skin cancer. They refused to pay for the skin cancer, the biopsies, etc because it was the same problem.
I am ashamed to say that I have been recommending ASPCA pet insurance for years to everyone who would listen. They used to be very responsive, they paid every claim like it was not their own money - legitimate claims - not inappropriate ones. I have never had so many problems as I have had the last 2 years. I am going to cancel my insurance on all of my dogs - I still have 4 left and will be looking for a more reliable, reputable, and honest company. Shame on them.

I called up ASPCA pet insurance because my dog needed to have surgery for a ear hematoma. I asked the lady before I signed up if this would be covered so that I can submit a claim after the surgery. Of course she said yes and even convinced me to sign up my 2 other dogs. So now I had all 3 dogs signed up and paid 2 monthly payments. I signed up around Nov 17, 2014 and my dog's surgery was on Nov 24, 2014. So I went ahead and sent out the claim form for my bill of $740.00. After 3 weeks, I was informed that my claim was denied because I had to wait 30 days in order to be eligible to receive reimbursement. I was so upset because I was never told that information before I signed up. If I was informed of this, then I would have never bothered to sign up. This is a total scam to me and I would not recommend any of my friends or family to ASPCA pet insurance. I since then cancelled my membership and looking for another reputable insurance company for my dogs.

My dog is currently suffering from some sort of eye infection that has been going on now for almost 2 months. Total bills so far have racked up to almost $3k out of pocket and she has yet to see the eye specialist which is up next. Unfortunately for me, her injury first surfaced 10 days prior to the annual renewal of her insurance plan. Being a good owner I chose to seek treatment. The first visit was just $200, but the very next visit (just 1 day after her renewal) was a whopping $900. Unfortunately the way the brilliant minds at this 'For Profit' company wrote the policy, they can't cover the $900 or anything that follows b/c this is now a pre-existing condition. Not that it was chronic, nor hereditary, simply that b/c it surfaced 10 days prior to renewal that it is now 'pre-existing'. I give these people money why exactly?

They are the worst... They will find every which way not to pay you. I pay over $70 a month for two dogs both 8 years old and they nitpick the records to find some wording in there from years before I purchased the insurance and takes forever to process the claim because they do not want to pay. I am stuck now with them because my dogs are up there in age... Both myself and my Vet are disgusted!

I have accident only insurance on pet (Schipperke age 16 mos). Dog ate sandal. Absolutely no coverage despite intervention of vet and my appeals. The actual co behind the insurance is Hartville Group, Inc. and they are supposed to pay ASPCA $1.95 million in order to use the name. They are simply collecting premiums to meet this commitment and have no incentive to actually help animals. Horrible company and shame on ASPCA for lending them their name.

I will never use or advise anyone to use their services. They promise coverage for certain things and then when it's time to pay, they claim that is not covered. My vet prescribed a medicine for my Poly for renal disease and even though my vet wrote a letter explaining that she needed to take this for the rest of her life (for her kidneys) ASPCA coded the medicine as a food supplement and would not honor the claim. Also when she had some dental work done that's a whole another story they didn't pay for that either although they advertise that they do dental. Everything is with a hook and a loophole so they don't have to pay the claim. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY if you love your pet.
Updated on 02/22/2016: Please, anyone considering using this insurance for your pet, DON'T. I have insurance with them and two claims are being appealed. So they are holding up the other claims for payment that have nothing to do with the other claims. That's bogus. I work in A/R and when you have one problem with an invoice or claim we don't hold everything else up. I pay my premiums promptly and I expect the same service in return. This is not the first time either.
After speaking with Jane **, the supervisor, that was just a waste of time. Every time it's time to pay a claim, they come with "oh we don't pay this or that", it's like the bait and switch with them. I am in the process of finding another insurance carrier. I don't care if I have to pay more for it. I just don't want the hassle of doing business with the ASPCA insurance. Don't believe the hype. They may be good at saving animals however, their insurance policy and practices are disgusting.

I would give a zero if I could. They are complete liars, scam artists and will say anything for you to join, then not cover a thing. Please, please I am begging you, do not get them. We had the second to top tier in coverage, and NOTHING has been covered. One example is the vet documented that he may have a long soft palate but were unsure and wanted to revisit if any problems occurred. Well, he did, and even though it was not discovered until nearly a year later, ASPCA refused to cover the surgery because there was mention of a possible issue a year.
What's worse is we even called to verify it would be covered 2 weeks before and were told it would!! Or how about when he had a flare-up within the first 30 days of getting insurance, it went away, but came back 56 days later. Again, denied because he suffered the same problem (even though it was resolved) during the waiting period. THIS COMPANY IS A SCAM!!!! They got nearly $1,000 from us for a year of insurance and covered $0 out of $2100 claims submitted.

I signed up for the expensive Level 4 Wellness plan with ASPCA in November 2009 for my two cats who were about a year and a half old. Since that time, I have paid out $5,960.34 in insurance payments to ASPCA. I have had a total of $5,580.96 in vet bills between the two cats, spread out over the time from November 2009 until May 2014.... Nothing critical, but eye problems, skin issues, dental extractions. I recently submitted a bill to them for $673 for dental scaling, cleaning and two extractions as part of the preventative plan on the advice of my vet in order to avoid future more serious issues.
After submitting my claim to ASPCA for $673.81, they refused to pay even ONE CENT! Something about 180 days since last diagnosis, very vague explanation. This is ridiculous. I e-mailed them with my complaint, but they have not replied. The last time this cat had dental cleaning was in October 2012, which is well past 180 days since the last issue. This is not the first time I've received zip reimbursement, and my vet bills are sporadic and mostly for preventative reasons, including shots, physicals and dental cleaning. I've not exactly racked up huge claims with ASPCA. I am fed up with them and am really considering cancelling my plans. If you have to read the 20 pages of fine print every time your pet is ill, you might just as well forget having the insurance, as you'll get nothing or a minimal return. If I were a financial advisor, I'd say, run, don't walk from this rip off!

My GSP had a slightly enlarged spleen which we were given a choice to remove it or just have regular check ups. I do not have a spleen so we chose not to have it removed because it is a vital organ we are better off with and this was 2010. The vet checked our dogs spleen every 3 months and up until October of this year did the vet say the spleen was larger and a nodule on the outside grew. We decided it was time to remove it and found out that upon removal there was a small mass that came back as cancer or a sarcoma. We started chemo and ASPCA pet insurance refused to pay for the spleen removal because it was diagnosed in a previous year and their policy calls this pre existing and they would not pay for chemo since the cancer was in the spleen and this is pre existing even though he would not be alive if he had cancer untreated since 2010 when the spleen was slightly enlarged. Pre existing to them is yearly even if you did not have any claim for the condition before you took out their policy. I have been with them for about 5 years and this is crazy and nonsense. They take my money so I am canceling their insurance.

I paid $35 a month for 8 years and had 8 claims. After taking out the $100.00 deductible and only covering 80% I received maybe $1,050 back of the $4,000 I paid over this time. The last year I had the plan my dog had 4 bladder infections, when she got a 5th one they refused to cover it. They now considered this a preexisting condition, which they do not cover. They let me know that any future claims that relate in any way to the bladder (such as a yeast infection) will NOT be covered. Then they refused to use my bills towards the $100.00 deductible. My general feeling is as long as your claim amounts are low and are infrequent they will cover you, if you begin to turn in multiple claims they find a loophole or way to say it's related to a preexisting condition. I cancelled my plan ASAP.

ASPCA will procrastinate for as long as they can, will wait for you to call to find out what is going on with a claim, then keep asking for more and more information, i.e., Descript Vet Invoice and receipts were not enough, needed the Vet's "notes" which took them another month to get and they still denied the claims. Then, they changed my start date so not to pay for some of the "puppy" claims and another because my puppy had a "pre-existing" condition........ Giardia virus that he must have picked up in the Pet Store. I had the best plan which was suppose to cover everything even preventative stuff 90%. I haven't received a dime for anything I submitted and it took months!

I wish I could give no stars...I brought an 8-week old puppy into my home, after three veterinarians said he was healthy. I enrolled him in ASPCA Health Insurance. About a month after I got him home, he began scratching terribly, making himself bleed. The vet tested him three times over the next few months for mange and found none. We treated him for unknown allergies. When I submitted the claim for allergy medicine and treatment to ASPCA, they denied the claim stating it was a pre-existing condition. After several months, the puppy developed mange. After two bouts of treatments, the ASPCA is denying all of those charges, stating it is a genetic condition.
I appealed their denial, with supporting letters from: (1) both breeders of the dog stating in 45 years of breeding, they had only 1 incident of mange which was cured easily; (2) other owners of puppies in the litter stating no allergy or mange issues with his siblings; (3) a letter from the vet who has cared for the breeders’ dogs for over 30 years, stating there is no predisposition to mange or allergies; and (4) letters from the vets who examined him, stating there was no sign of mange or allergies initially. And after three months, they came back and still denied the claim and appeal for the same initial reasons. They are an absolute rip-off. They certainly don't care about the welfare of animals. All they care about is lining their pockets.

I've had ASPCA for some years. They always pay late, but at least they pay. Recently, they refused payment for a routine modality saying it was "alternative" therapy. Neither my vet nor any other vet I consulted considers this treatment alternative. Neither does the AKA. But ASPCA refuses to defend their opinion and simply says it is alternative because that's what they say.

I am writing in protest of the denial of benefits for the recent claims during the current plan year (12/1/12 11/30/13). First, as an insured client of ASPCA Pet Health Insurance (ASPCA PHI) in good standing since 2007 (as such I have paid in excess of $3,000 in annual premiums), let me express my complete disbelief over ASPCA PHI's recent actions. Rather than correcting a simple error made by their claims department when processing a 2/2013 claim, which omitted a reimbursement of $3.33 for the second of two bags of lactated ringers in February 2013, ASPCA PHI launched an investigation, expended the time and resources to come up with some fabricated justification to deny benefits for a condition for which treatment was not prescribed prior to 2/15/2013.
They obtained ALL of my pet's records (without my knowledge) and are claiming that the pet has had the kidney condition since 11/2011. That is simply outrageous and untrue. At that time the Veterinarian suggested receiving special food and dietary supplements to help maintain kidney function. As you may know, ASPCA PHI does not consider this treatment and neither suggestion is covered by the policy. Hence, they cannot say that the suggestions received were a diagnosis; they are simply a course of action to maintain quality of life and reduce the possibility of future kidney issues. There was no condition diagnosed for treatment at that time. To have their claims department state otherwise is an interpretation of the facts and Doctors notes that I do not believe the claims department is qualified to make. It is an inaccurate interpretation at best. At worst, it’s a misguided scheme - a scam - to deny policy benefits.
Today, 5/16/2013, ASPCA PHI denied my appeal. I am reporting them to the BBB and will sue for reimbursement of $3000 in premiums.

I have had this insurance for a number of years and luckily, my pets didn't need any medical help. Okay, we got turned down because I asked for testing for Lyme disease. I got turned down for reimbursement because my dogs never had Lyme disease, but then my female got idiopathic anemia from a tick-born disease called Ehrlichia. She got sick for 2 weeks before my annual renewal and they will only cover the first two weeks of her illness because after the renewal, they will not cover anything from the previous year. You have got to be kidding.

After calling this ripoff company and then realizing they were a scam, I had called back and told them I was no longer interested and wanted to cancel my application. After the girl gave me a hard time trying to threaten my pet, she said she would cancel my application and I wouldn't be charged. 3 days later, I looked in my account and they charged me $70! They are a scam and are only interested in your money. Too bad I put a claim and got my money back, oh and put a stop payment on their fraudulent charges.

I feel this is a rip off of insurance. My cat was ill the end of 2012 and it took till now, 3/13, to resolve and find the actual cause. The plan will not pay anything towards the needed surgery. They claim that when the plan renews and if the issue had not already been resolved, it is now not covered. I asked the woman “So you mean to tell me if my cat had a cold in December and it was covered and then had a cold in January when the plan renewed, it would not be covered?” And she said, “That is correct. If an issue is not resolved within the plan’s year, it is then not covered again till there are 180 days of clean health for the issues.”
So literally, if it takes the doctor too long to solve your issue which has been an ongoing problem and your plan renews before the condition is resolved, it is then not covered for 6 months although it was ongoing. This is nuts. You pay plenty for the insurance and then they try everything possible not to pay a claim in my opinion. Look for other insurance as I know I am.

Just don't do it! I thought this would be the best thing to have for my beloved family members. It's nothing but a headache and they will not pay out. I wish I could put a screenshot up here of what they have actually paid out to me, but I don't see where I can. Here's a review:
I claimed $240 and they paid $56. I claimed $165 and they paid $40. I claimed $139.80 and they paid $1.58 (that's right, one dollar and fifty eight cents). I claimed $65.30 and they paid $0. I could keep going. I joined this insurance in January 2008 for my two dogs. I paid $45 at the lowest and $65 at the highest per month every month for five years. Every time I got ready to cancel, I thought, "No, I may need it and maybe they will cover the next illness, etc." Believe me when I say that they will find a reason to not cover whatever you have. Their best excuse is, "A portion of this charge exceeds reasonable costs, which is the customary fee charged for a given treatment or procedure within the geographic area in which the fee is incurred."
I went to one of the lowest priced vets around that will still provide quality treatment for my pets, yet it is still too high. I have called around to compare. I have asked the ASPCA Insurance for a list or a better vet to go to and they said they don't have that. Seriously, beware. An absolute waste of money - I purchased the 4-star insurance the day I bought our 8-week old puppy from the breeder. I paid approximately $90 a month for this insurance. At 5 months, we took her into the vet to be spayed. One of the reasons that I purchased this level of insurance was that spay, yearly visits and shots and dental cleanings would be included. I received a call from the vet saying that they could not spay her because they would not administer anesthesia because of her kidney levels. He suggested putting her on an IV for a few days and then check her numbers. In addition, the vet suggested we take her to a veterinarian that specialized in kidney problems, which we did. At no time did either the vet or the kidney specialist indicated that the cause was congenital; however, we could not prove that it wasn't congenital and ASPCA determined that it was.
Over the next 4 years, we provided daily fluid under her skin, gave her holistic kidney supplements as well as cold laser treatments, which would help strengthen what good part of her kidneys remained. All of this was submitted to ASPCA and all of it was rejected. Keep in mind that all of the benefits offered (teeth cleaning, spaying, yearly injections) were now not an option for our dog. But we continued to do what we had to in order to keep her healthy.
At the 4-year mark, things started to deteriorate and she started passing out. She continued to eat until the end (mostly because I cooked all of her meals) but was unable to keep anything down. The day she no longer wanted to eat, drink or play, we knew it was time. The biggest slap in the face came when we took her to the vet to say goodbye. The vet charged a small price for end of life services. I opted to have her cremated and the cost was $250. When the vet submitted the insurance form, they allowed $150 for the cremation and deducted the $100 deductible, which was due because all claims were denied previously in that year and then paid 80% of the remainder. They couldn't even give us a break on her death. But they do call you; they do send a card. So, so pathetic.

The insurance is total fraud. My story is not different from other people. The insurance doesn't cover preexisting conditions. Each renewal is considered to be a new policy that does not cover old or reoccurring illness. Claim processing takes many months. I got burned by ASPCA three times for several thousand dollars. They are in business to make money whatever it takes. We bought insurance for our dog because of false sense of security. This is what it is. Each time it was a struggle to get paid without much success.

In October of 2010 I started shopping for pet insurance to cover my cat Draven after spending $8,000 trying to save the life of my other cat Gambit. You could say I learned my lesson and never wanted cost to be a deciding factor in the decisions I made about my little guy's health. After a nice conversation with this company's (ASPCA Pet Insurance) phone representative, any concerns I had were resolved and I decided to use their services. The representative directed me to their online application, which I filled out and waited for the approval email that came a short time later.
The following year, Draven developed diabetes, which required treatment. As fortune would have it, he was able to "beat it" and went into remission after six long months of insulin injections and highly volatile blood glucose levels. These claims were paid out as expected and I couldn't have been happier. In short, he was healthy again and I didn't have a big bill to worry about. This was in October of 2011.
On December 1st, 2011, his policy came up for renewal. I honestly didn't really pay attention because everything was fine and the monthly premium was getting paid as needed. They had done what I expected an insurance company do, which was to cover the claims so I had no reason to have concerns. In short, just keep sending them money until I need help with expenses again. Unfortunately, Draven had a relapse with the diabetes and we had to start up treatments again this summer. The good news was he had gone into remission again after a much shorter treatment length in comparison to last year’s. I sent in my claims like previous incidents and waited for underwriting to do their job.
Now this was where things turned bad. The claims were denied. I put down that Draven was a year older than he really was on the initial online application. Draven was in fact ten years and two months old at that time but I did the math wrong and put down eleven years and two months. This one year difference meant he was never eligible for something called "continuing care", which would have helped cover these most recent expenses.
This company's theory, as others have stated, is that the pet must be free and clear of the illness for 180 days (which he was) for them to cover similar expenses the following year. Also, they view diabetes as something that can never be truly cured so that particular disease isn't eligible for coverage past the initial year of the policy anyways.
Why on earth would anyone want a policy like this? They were able to verify the correct age with my vet office. They would not, however, honor the claims even if I offered to pay the appropriate continuing care coverage premiums retroactively. The supervisor on the phone basically stated that I should have known about the continuing care policy and asked for clarification if I didn't understand it. She also on numerous occasions pointed out that I was the one that gave them his incorrect age. At no point was any of this ever brought up and previous policy paperwork only treated this as a minor footnote. Essentially I didn't read the fine print on the back of page x.
I am afraid now that Draven is too old for another insurance company to extend him coverage and any diabetes treatment is surely off the table. Please do not use this company for your "loved ones" as they deserve a company that is willing to help you fix an honest human error and cares about them as much as you do.

For five years we have carried this insurance for our dog; quick math, $1,250. When we purchased this insurance they did not have a 'rider' to cover across plan renewal dates, which means if your policy renews January 1 and you bring your pet in for an illness on December 26th and start treatment, anything that runs over the January 1 date will not be covered. It is pre-existing. Your pet will need to be free and clear of all symptoms for 180 days before they cover it again. They now offer this extra coverage but you have to ask for it. Not only ask for it, but also you have to ask for it 45 days prior to your renewal date. If you call any other time they do not have the technology to make a note and add it when your policy renews. If you forget - well, your pet will not be covered. Also be aware if your pet gets too old, they also will not allow you to add this coverage.
This company goes out of their way with excuses, rules, reasons, etc., as to why you will not be covered. Please also be aware they say they record every conversation even you are not aware of it, asked, or approve being recorded. Our pet is now 10. I called in January to ask for the additional rider to be applied to our account when it renews in August. They gave me a quote, made a note, but did not do it because I did not call back within the 45-day window of magic opportunity. Now, I call again, asking for it to be added and now she is too old. She had a urinalysis on August 15; it showed positive for infection, she needed antibiotics. This will be covered, after co-pay, and 'reasonable and customary' charges allowed then minus 20%. Now, the Doc wanted to do follow up two weeks later. After our renewal date, August 18, everything after this date is not covered without this rider.
It also will never be covered until she is 180-day free and clear of the last occurrence, meaning if 90 days later your pet has another infection you need to wait 180 days from these next 90 days. If you buy this insurance be sure to ask for and get a rider. Now that our pet is 10, I cannot get any other insurance and if I could, I would cancel and change in a heartbeat. If you call them, be prepared for excuses, no real service or answers that are not 'scripted' they report the same answer over and over and over until you hang up in frustration. At least they speak English. Any other insurance: house, car, life, property or jewelry is easier and less painful than dealing with this team. Good luck!

My wife purchased the insurance and had told them we would be taking the dog in for a checkup and some meds. The spokesperson said that as long as we waited the required 30 days, all would be fine. Well, we waited about 45 days and took her in to the vet. Since we are military and use the base, the vet fees are nominal. The medicines and diagnostic testing were about $400. We called the company and got the procedures to properly file the forms. We received a whopping $8.00 in reimbursement. Every excuse under the sun was used to not pay: pre-existing condition, we were not over the 30-day limit, the deductible and this was on the premium policy. We have already paid between $240 and $320 in premiums. We have canceled the policy and have contacted the bank to be sure that they do not try to continue to collect on the premium. I will never give a nickel to the ASPCA again.

My 12-year-old standard Poodle had mild limping and weakness over the past year and a half from arthritis but was able to function. However, he changed markedly and was unable to lift himself off of the floor. He was found to have a herniated disc in his neck. ASPCA Pet Insurance denied the claim stating that the weakness started in a prior policy year and that they weren't going to honor the surgery for the herniated disc which was a new problem. I would look to a reputable company for my pet insurance needs. Stay away from ASPCA Pet Insurance.

I have paid $2,500 in premiums to ASPCA over the past 5 years. My dog was in good health until 6 months ago when he was diagnosed with diabetes. It has been a rocky road since then. ASPCA has paid about $500 on probably $1,000 worth of bills. I just got a refusal letter on syringes and insulin purchased in May. Note that it is 2 months later that I'm getting this letter. They say that the bill will not be paid because my dog's diabetes was diagnosed in the prior plan period. What? I called, thinking this was a mix up and would be easily fixed. It wasn't. ASPCA said my plan renewed in May and will not pay claims on his diabetes since it now considers that a preexisting condition! What is the point of this insurance?
I liked the idea of helping ASPCA. I loathe the organization right now. I feel swindled, deceived and cheated. Unfortunately, I can't leave them quite yet because my dog might have Cushing's Disease. I feel sure they will deny the claim but I am not 100% certain and therefore, I have to stick around and pay them more premiums until the inevitable denial. If it is like the diabetes claim, they will stretch it out for another couple of months so they can continue to cheat me out of more money. Word to the wise: start a savings account for your pet. Put $50 a month into it rather than paying anyone for pet insurance. In a year, the pet will have $600. In 5 years, they will have $3,000. Only deduct from the account if there is something beyond wellness care. I am convinced that you are only throwing good money after bad to do it any other way, particularly if you are contracting with ASPCA.

I have had this insurance for both of my dogs for about 3 years now. They always have excuses for not to pay. Recently, my biggest argument with them has been about the reasonable cost. They don’t pay the cost of what you paid. They have a database with prices, which is obviously way lower. I told them to tell me about the veterinarian that is charging those prices so I would go there. So, of course, they didn’t know because it is just a database. So after they give you their "reasonable cost" price, they only pay 80% of that. I have been lucky that my dogs get sick at the same time and then they rest for 6 months before they get bacterial infection again; otherwise, they would not pay since they would say it is a preexisting condition.
Also, when I adopted one of my dogs, she was really sick and had a shelter virus. So my other dog was treated as well and ASPCA refused to pay with the excuse that it was a genetic condition from the puppy's mother and refused to pay for my other dog since they say it was a wellness treatment. I do not recommend this insurance at all. I always forget about canceling when it is up because I am paying more in premiums annually plus vet bills and I am not getting truly reimbursed 80% of the cost of what I paid. I think it would be better if I open a bank account for them and deposit what I'm paying every month.

I insured my cat (Dante) in early September 2011 with ASPCA Pet Insurance right after I adopted him from Bideawee. He had swollen eyes and I brought him back to Bideawee two weeks later in September 2011. Bideawee said it was the Herpes Virus, common in shelter cats. He was given an eye ointment. In January he began to have labored breathing and is now being treated for asthma.
ASPCA Insurance is refusing to pay on the claim because they say Dante's illness is respiratory and is associated with the visit to Bideawee in September. They have a 30-day clause which says that if the cat gets treated for an illness within 30 days of taking out the insurance, that illness will not be covered. They consider this "a prior illness" and have refused payment. My Vet became very angry when I told him this. Apparently, he never heard heard of the Herpes Virus becoming asthma.
I think they are totally irresponsible and based on the other complaints I have read about the ASPCA Pet Insurance program on this website, the coverage is a scam. I have also read that the underwriter of this insurance program for the ASPCA is failing financially and is responsible for their doing things like refusing a claim. Please help!

They are calling it pre-existing due to the fact before the insurance took effect, he vomited because he had pneumonia. So they are saying since he vomited before, then it is related. It's simple and obvious; when you have pneumonia, you cough, you vomit, especially when you have mucus buildup. So how can those two be related?
I have spent thousands of dollars for hospitalizations, tests, and medications; and none are being covered. Yet, I am paying top-of-the-line insurance coverage for my dog, still. His vomiting subsisted for months, but it's back. So now, I am worried that he may have something worse like stomach cancer. So I scheduled an endoscopy, and once again, I know the insurance will not cover since they did not cover all of the other claims. Endoscopy isn't cheap and may run me up to $2500, if not more, from what my vet told me.
Anyway, long story short, they cannot prove that this is pre-existing since he was not diagnosed with his illness before the insurance took effect. I need help, I am running out of money and do not know what to do.

My dog had her physical in May and I had pointed out what resembled a white pimple on her side. The vet said they are common in older dogs and are harmless. Four months later, the "pimple" started to change in appearance so I brought her in again and was told it was a cancer. She had surgery a week later. She is fine. ASPCA would not pay on the claim because it was noticed in a different claim year. They didn't even give me my $100 deductible for the year.

I pay full year for a pet insurance each July since 2009 for my dog Taco Bella. I went to Wakefield Animal Hospital on two occasions for first time medical problems. On 7-25-11, a right leg problem (muscle or joint) and was given medication. On 8-25-11, for a skin problem (allergies) and was given a shampoo and medications. Both problems have been resolved. My two claims are pending for additional information. I called today and was told that they are waiting for 12 months of records from the hospital. Taco Bella has only been at the hospital for the wellness physical and vaccinations each year. The box was checked on the claim that these problems were not treated before.
Unacceptable and undue hardship on the hospital and me being treated as if I am committing some kind of fraud.

I paid into a pet insurance plan for over 4 years for two dogs, and never made a claim until April 11, when a growth on one dog turned funny looking, so I brought her to the vets. They recommended biopsy to be sure it was cancerous. In the interim, I found two more, so while she was under, they removed and biopsied them also. My claim was for $842, in which they paid $125. They claim this was from a previous billing period and wasn't covered. The two additional ones weren't even discovered until a couple of days before surgery on 4/13/11.
It took over a month just to get some money, which I fought them about. She also had an x-ray to check out why she was holding up her leg sometimes, (new problem ). They didn't cover those either because she has a patina, which is genealogical in her breed. She is a mixed breed, and it doesn't make any sense. They are a total rip off. They make up any excuse not to pay out. After a deductible, they only pay 80 percent. I am cancelling both my policies, which were $500 a year. It is not worth the aggravation and stress I went through battling with them. Do not purchase pet insurance from this company.

We purchased this "insurance" for our new dog. We never had pet insurance before but figured it would be a good investment since, should she have an accident or illness, we do not want to have to borrow money from family or friends or clean out our savings. We've been paying an exorbitant premium every month (more than what my people health insurance costs!). Recently, she had an accident and hurt her leg. The initial emergency visit was $376 and I submitted a claim. It took them nearly two weeks to "process" the claim and when it came back, they denied the coverage. They even went so far as to tell me that the surgery she'll need (which we shopped around for to get the lowest price) wouldn't be covered either.
It's obvious that this "insurance" is a scam. They're not going to pay anything for a claim and have so many loopholes (for themselves) to get out of paying anything, that it is ridiculous. What's worse? Trying to cancel this scam insurance is next to impossible with their "automated billing".

I have had the same experience as the rest of you, guys. I had coverage for my cat for 12 years. In all those years, I submitted one claim for like $50 for a check up at the Vet. Now when I really needed the coverage, they denied me, stating a pre-existing condition. My cat got sick on January 28 and was euthanized on February 4. Because my policy renewed on February 1, the second hospitalization was denied as pre-existing even though it was the same illness! It just happened to cross into the new period.
I will do the useless appeal (It goes to them.), only so that I can bring them to Small Claims Court. And even if I lose, it will be worth it to make them pay out what they should have paid me in attorney's fees and time. I have also complained to the NYS Insurance Department and will submit a complaint to the NYS Attorney General's Office, Consumer Frauds Bureau. Class action? Yes!

ASPCA is denying claim which is a secondary condition of cataracts to my pet’s diabetes which they consider pre-existing because it manifested in the prior plan year. The policy wording does not specifically state that secondary conditions are excluded. I would like to take a legal action and to have my claim paid.

The following may be the reason the ASPCA/Hartville Group, Inc. Pet Health Care Insurance is not paying claims submitted by the insured, or paying very little. The Hartville Group may be in financial distress. Take a look at the following statistics regarding their penny stock. Take a look at their 52 week low of 6 cents! The CEOs and the rest of these hoodlums must be milking this company dry, and we, the insured, are paying the price for this deceptive company's ways. The Hartville Group, Inc. should be scrutinized regarding their business practices, pertaining to paying very little on submitted claims. The ASPCA Pet Health Care Insurance administered by the Hartville Group, Inc. which is a penny stock, is despicable and disgusting, and blaming customers for filing claims for procedures that are not covered, when, in fact, the Hartville Group may not be paying out on claims for possible fraudulent reasons. In addition, the Hartville Group, Inc. recently filed papers with the SEC so they no longer have to make their financial records public. What is this company hiding?

(the "company"), issued a press release announcing that it plans to voluntarily de-register its common stock, and suspend its reporting obligations under the Securities and Exchange Act of 1934, as amended, by filing a Form 15 with the Securities and Exchange Commission (the "SEC") by December 30, 2008. Upon the filing of Form 15, the company's obligations to file certain reports with the SEC, including forms. The insured are not getting paid due to possible financial distress of the Hartville Group, Inc. aka ASPCA Pet Health Care Insurance.
This company blames the customers, for filing claims for non covered procedures, when, in fact, the Insured may be getting denied payment because of well thought out, deceptive practices on the part of this company, due to their possible financial distress. The possible financial distress may be why the insured are getting paid 20% on their submitted claims. This company should be scrutinized regarding possible Deceptive Business Practices.

My poor cat had an abscess in her mouth that burst through her face. She needed emergency surgery, and had some teeth removed. During her emergency surgery, the doctor had to remove the abscess material from the other teeth, and clean those teeth in order to inspect them thoroughly, to see if there were any other abscesses in her mouth.
Of the many procedures that the ASPCA Petshealth Care Insurance (Hartville Group) denied, was the cleaning of her teeth, saying it was a wellness procedure, a dental cleaning, which was an exclusion under the Policy! This was not a wellness dental cleaning, this was a possible life sparing surgery, wherein the teeth had to be thoroughly inspected. My poor lil girl later passed soon after, from possible complications from the abscess.
This insurance company is as cold-hearted as they come, and I strongly advise all others to stay away from this pet insurance, and for existing clients to cancel their policies. This company is a disgrace!They interpret procedures, contrary to the reasons they were ordered by the Veterinarian, so that they may be excluded from your claim. It's disgusting & abominable.
The average payout for claims by this company is 20-25% of total claim. It's a conscientious effort to pay as little as possible on claims, in comparison to the amount of premiums collected. The company and reps are not concerned with the welfare of your beloved. About the only claim they will pay is for euthanasia, and they may not even pay the full amount. The usual & customary charges they use are not from any veterinary practice on this planet.

I advice all who have beloved pets and are shopping for Pet insurance to stay as far away as possible from any pet insurance with the names ASPCA, Petshealth Care Insurance, Canton, Ohio, Hartsville, etc. associated with it. This pet insurance is well known to be the ASPCA Pet Insurance Plan but you cannot get a straight answer from the plan itself, regarding the ASPCA association.
This insurance plan pays pennies on your dollars regarding claims. They will take six weeks to settle your claim but take only two days to deny your appeal. The ASPCA Petshealth Care insurance Plan has many exclusions but very few covered items. One exclusion in particular is very troublesome and indicative of the type of, or lack of coverage that the ASPCA Petshealth Care Plan Coverage offers. It is called The 180 Day Pre-existing Condition Exclusion Rule, which also applies to Policy Renewals.
For example, let's say, your policy renews on July 1 and your pet falls ill on June 30, you and your beloved pet will not be covered for any expenses because this company will treat the illness as a pre-existing condition. This is disgusting and indicative of the extent this company goes to make sure that your reimbursement is as little as possible regarding a claim. This 180 Day exclusion Rule was never clear in the policy and it is only recently, that it is now on the Declarations Page of Written Policies.
You buy Pet Insurance, in case your beloved ever needs care in their time of need but the ASPCA Petshealth Care Plan will not be the Policy you thought it to be when it comes time to paying a claim. Shop elsewhere for a pet insurance Plan, as the ASPCA Coverage is despicable, horrible and disgusting. If the ASPCA is just lending their name to this Pet Insurance Company, they should stop. If this plan was created by the ASPCA, they should be ashamed of themselves due to the many exclusions and the horrible 180 Pre-existing Conditions Rule, which also applies to policy renewals!
When they review a claim, they twist and turn the procedures to fit their exclusions, when in reality, the procedures were done for reasons not excluded from the policy. This coverage interprets the procedures done regarding your pet, so as to fit their many exclusions, contrary to the real reasons the vet ordered them.

Do not get ASPCA Pet Insurance, if you think they will, as stated, reimburse you for spaying or neutering your pet! Under "Covered Expenses" for the plan I opted for, it says "Necessary surgical treatment for an illness or injury, including costs to spay or neuter your pet". The cost was about $400 for the neuter and related treatment. Do you know how much they reimbursed me? $60!
When I called, they said they go by a national average and not what it costs you. But just go ahead and try to find out in advance what they deem "reasonable" because they will not tell you! Having called multiple vets in my area, no one charged less than what I was charged. So, after the $100 deductible and their assumption that I could have gotten it for less, we got a lot less than we signed up for. I am sure if I found some random guy with a pair of pliers and a sewing kit, their reimbursement for the "Metropolitan Area" would have been just fine. But not in any reality is this the case. Their rep was not at all surprised when I canceled them.
And, I am all for a class action lawsuit! Contact me if you are serious. I just want my money back that I paid them in good conscience that they would actually do what they said they were going to do.

I signed up for the Level 2 Pet Insurance in 2008, for both of my dogs. The first claim I submitted was when my dog was tested and diagnosed with Cushing’s disease. The claim was immediately denied as "pre-existing" condition, and also for the "waiting period". I knew that my dog had never been tested or treated for this, so I got letters from my vets and fought it. The company eventually paid the claim, but reduced it drastically due to the "reasonable and customary" schedule for my area. They would not, or could not give me details on exactly what area is considered in this schedule. Since I live on Mt. Desert Island, I wondered how large an area was included in the determination.
The second problem I had with them was my other dog had a back injury, the following year. We tried to treat it with medication to reduce the inflammation and avoid surgery, since he was 14 at the time. That worked for a couple of months and then it was determined that he'd need surgery. I already knew it would be considered "pre-existing" since we were now into the renewal term of the policy. I paid my own claim of close to $4,000 and would do it again if needed. My issue with this company is how they determine pre-existing conditions. I have seen numerous complaints on this website and several others, and mostly for the same reasons.
I believe that if you have paid your premiums and there is no gap in coverage from renewal to renewal, the covered illness should not be considered pre-existing in the renewal term. If they really want to be "cost effective" they shouldn't penalize those of us who try to avoid costly surgery. They are encouraging people to jump into surgeries and avoid alternative treatments which are easier on the pets and less costly to them.
I also believe that the R & C schedule that this company uses is far below what is "reasonable"! I do understand that insurance companies are in business for profit and they are entitled to that, but they should also be held to certain standards. I have decided to non-renew my policy and would definitely warn people to avoid this company. I have been a long-time supporter of the ASPCA and I am a Legacy Society member, but I am currently reconsidering future support.

ASPCA pet insurance! Run! Run! Run! Don't trust them! They will give you one heck of a sales pitch, then say they can find the recorded conversation! Don't trust them, not with your baby! Don't buy. Go to another company! Petsmarting is how your charge will appear. Reminds me of lying telemarketers! They do not disclose facts for coverage. They charged my account on the 6th of February but decided to change coverage to 2/15/2010 so that they would not cover. They also denied a claim on 3/18 for the reason of falling within 30 days and after I pointed out it was longer than 30 days, they changed to pre-existing.
When I inially called, no pre-existing issues were discussed. They claimed they cover meds but don't expect the vet bill to write the prescriptions to be covered even if it is a vet approved/prescribed needed medication. They claimed it was pre-existing but he didn't pre-exist, he was a puppy! I called eight times and emailed five times and until I decided to deny charges, I never received a call. How can allergies be a pre-existing issue on a brand new puppy? If they covered Revolution, a prescribed med for fleas, heatworms, etc. then why wouldn't they cover his first visit to the doctors as an annual exam? They said they cover meds, but don't expect it. $500 later and the best plan they offer at almost $80 a month and absolutely nothing except a little towards the $100 deductible was covered.
Record your call! Get it in writing! Read the fine print. They don't cover anything. When I questioned the denial reason, they actually said, "Oh, it was coded incorrectly," and they coded it with a code that I could not fight! Don't buy ASPCA insurance. This is the worst on the market and they tell you they pay when others don't. It is a true rip off! I have donated to ASPCA for years and thought it was a reputable name but I was wrong! They even say deworming, even though all puppies must have meds for this, worms or not, it is pre-existing!

This is the most terrifying experience that I had to go through. I have a dog named Jae who is 3 going on 4 years old, a Chihuahua/dachshund mix. He recently got injured and was paralyzed in his back legs. In desperate need we brought him to the ASPCA in Manhattan. We did not know what to do because he was in so much pain that he would bite every time he felt extreme pain. And note he never bites or never intended to do so. When we got to the ASPCA we had to fill out forms while we held him in our arms.
Me, my granddaughter and son went into the room to see the doctor. She touched him and emptied his bladder because he could not urinate on his own. They did no x-rays, no test and already said that he had a disc out of place and it was broken. She pulled the hair from his back foot to see if there was any reaction, which was painful to see. But it gets worse. Since she received no reaction she brought a clamp and squeezed his toes so hard. I mean I think she broke his toes; she said, "I know this looks cruel.”
While we were in such an emotional shock, she tells us to either do surgery that would be $3,000 or put him to sleep which cost $300 because he had no chance of living at all. She said a 10% chance of living. Also, she stated that he would never walk again and we would have to stick our finger in his anal to extract feces and squeeze his bladder for the rest of his life. I didn't want him to suffer but I didn't want to lose him either. We said forget that and brought him home to take care of him.
Now it is 3 months later and he walks perfectly fine, no pain, and he goes to the bathroom on his own. He is happy and playful as if nothing were to ever happen. And just to think that at that moment we would have laid him to rest for no reason and cost us such an emotional tragedy.
I believe the workers there are extremely careless towards animals and others’ feelings and damaged his toes while using the clamps! They were sure of what he had without even running any test on us and cost us over $200.00 for no reason. They charged an extra $75.00 to hear that he was ready to put to sleep by a "professional". I’m so emotionally damaged. He keeps me so much company and he is just apart of our family it hurt me to know the lack of care these workers have. It scares me to know there are doctors like this, especially in the ASPCA. I’m destroyed in my heart. I'm sure millions of people lost their animals to the same situation as this, but there is always hope for your animal. Always think twice!

I have had insurance since 2/15/10. I submitted a claim dated 3/19/10, but they say there is a 30-day wait period. They must have a different calculation than mine since they now say it is not past the 30-day waiting period for illness. They don't have money to pay claims. I know this because they have already processed a claim that is 12 days later than one for normal wellness covered.
They actually also didn't allow one claim against a deductible since they claim it is more than the standard charge! I feel that they should at least allow what they say to be "standard"! This is just a scam, don't waste your money! Cancel now and use your money to pay your vet bills because this company will not. I have made donations to ASPCA for many years, but they have stopped as of now!

I purchased the top-tier insurance from ASPCA for my 11 year old dog. 4 months later, he developed liver cancer. ASPCA paid 80% of the bills. I received 3 calls asking me to share my "story" for the ASPCA website. I'm a professional writer, and I wrote my story. It was posted on their website under a different owner and pet name at the same time ASPCA stopped reimbursement payments, saying the maximum allowed for "one incident" is $5,000. Cancer is not "one incident" -- cancer is an on-going disease.
ASPCA is very misleading and perhaps even misrepresenting of its policies, by stating the "maximum reimbursement" for one year is $13,000. I was told I would qualify for the $13,000 if my dog were to have a different "incident" - like break his leg. But, cancer is considered ONE incident and capped at $5,000. Buyers beware -- ASPCA sells its insurance by selling it covers treatment for cancer but it does not clarify that they cover it as a one-time event rather than on-going treatment. I believe ASPCA changed the name, etc. on the story I wrote regarding my experience because they knew they would stop the payments to me, and so intentionally misrepresented the story so it could be used anyway.

My Dog has been continually enrolled in the ASPCA Pet health insurance since 12/18/2008. I had no claims until January of 2010. I had taken my dog for a rabies vaccine and had her skin checked. He recommended a vet dermatology specialist, which I took her too the next day. A couple of days later, the vet wanted to do another test for thyroid.
It came back low so more medication was prescribed. ASPCA denied the clam stating it was a "pre-existing" condition. Apparently, they have quite a scam going there. Every time they renew your yearly policy anything that happened previously is now a "pre-exiting" condition, so they deny paying the claim...

I applied for the ASPCA Pet Insurance after being referred by a friend. I felt that I could trust the name since it is well known organization that I felt was a good one. You must wait for 30 days after applying before any claims can be submitted. That was fine. No problem. After 6 months in the plan, my boxer dog was diagnosed with a torn ACL. When I applied for the plan, I was told that with the Plan 2 coverage I got, everything was covered with the exception of well care, office visits, food and vitamins. Any injury, surgery, illness or diagnostic needs would be covered. It sounded great for $365.00 (which included extended coverage) in case the dog got sick and needed care the next year).
Nothing was said about not covering ACL injuries until I called about the surgery. It was then stated that the ASPCA would not cover this type of injury if it took place within the 12 months after signing with them. The plan is for 12 months and after that would be considered a preexisting condition so would never be covered nor would any diagnostic means having to do with the condition. This plan is totally worthless. I have read numerous complaints about denials of services that had been previously promised.
Forget this company, they are not in business to help animal owners. They are in it strictly for profit. Do your research and don't sign up for any plan without having the contract in writing before you deal with them. I would never recommend them to anyone. I am notifying everyone I know who is considering dealing with the ASPCA not to do so when it comes to insurance. My vets office was as surprised as I am about this. They will not be putting out pamphlets for their customers any more.
I am responsible for a $2800. surgery plus all the diagnostic x-rays, meds, etc. which I was told would be covered. Not so. This company is worthless.

My dog was injured in a fall and ruptured a disc in her back. I spent about $6,500 on an MRI and on surgery. They do not want to pay the $3,500 limit they owe on the plan because they said that it was a genetic problem. I have info from my doctor and my surgeon that states other wise. So, I am taking them to court.

This is with regard to my dog who is 1 year and 6 months old and has been an ASPCA Pet Insurance plan member since she was 3 months old. For over a year, my dog is being treated for a urinary disorder. Mainly an x-ray and medication were given to find the problem, but it was not definitively detected. The plan renews yearly. In October the plan renewed for 2010. Last month the condition for my dog got worse and now that she is older, my vet advised getting a sonogram done on her. The procedure was $690.00. The claim (the first for the year) was submitted. I was aware of a $100.00 deductible, but expected a portion back for the procedure as I am paying $35.00 a month for my dog to be on the plan ($420.00 a year). The claim was denied with reason being I sought treatment for my dog's condition in the new plan period, and I cannot treat the same condition from the previous plan period in the new plan period unless 180 days passes.
Meaning, do nothing for 6 months and if your dog's condition worsens and she dies, so be it. If you decide to continue treatment before 6 months, they won't pay but you just keep paying a policy monthly for nothing basically including necessary treatments on a terrible condition my dog has and got after I enrolled in the plan. It was not a pre-existing condition. My dog was only 3 months old. She had no pre-existing conditions. I want the money due me for this claim. If not, I want a full refund for my plan since the new policy began (they paid nothing out to me since the policy began anyway, so why should I have paid a premium?). In addition, I need to know who can thoroughly investigate this issue. This needs to be investigated as it is animal cruelty!

I enrolled in a Level 3 ASPCA plan effective June 15, 2009. I selected the Level 3 plan because it covered puppy boosters for our 3-month old puppy. In late June, we took our dog to the vet for a round of puppy shots and subsequently submitted a claim form to ASPCA for reimbursement. The claim took 11 days to process and it came back with only $43 of the $140.76 being covered. This bill included 5 shots and a $15 service fee. ASPCA covered the professional service of $15 and only one of the shots (DAP). I was charged $45 for the DAP shot and ASPCA covered only $28 of this expense sighting that this charge was $17 above the reasonable limit. The rest of the boosters were considered preventative (even though they were recommended by our vet) and so they would not be covered including the Bordetella shot, which was required by our dog daycare kennel.
I submitted one other expense for $79 a few weeks later when our dog fell sick with a stomach illness. This expense was rejected in full and considered a pre-existing condition because the dog had been seen 1.5 months prior, when we just got him, because he vomited and we took him to the vet (he had made a full recovery since then). My general impression of ASPCA is that they go out of their way not to accept any charges. They would not provide me with a list of reasonable costs for my area and so they have the ability to call pretty much everything and anything beyond reasonable cost. I downgraded my service, at which time they force you to forfeit what little money was applied against my deductible, and am considering dropping the service altogether because I can't see myself ever being able to get my money's worth out of any ASPCA coverage. This company appears to be acting in bad faith. I have had numerous problems with them honoring legitimate claims. For instance, I just sent in a claim regarding pneumonia (the dog had a fever, cough and lethargic two days prior to Dx via chest x-rays on 3-30-09, etc.) for about $883. It was immediately denied. They asserted that because my dog presented with a cough way back in 8 or 9/08 prior to the effective date of the coverage, the symptom was pre-existing. Thus, they were entitled to deny coverage for the pneumonia. This is a pattern with them.
Also heinous is their clever use of the pre-existing clause to automatically deny claims when the annual renewal date rolls over. When customers elect to renew coverage, the next period is considered a new plan period and ailments before that period won't be covered. This company just started offering a new thing regarding continuation coverage. Pay an additional premium, and coverage will span plan periods. This didn't exist when I signed up, nor was I fully informed about their tortuous explanation/use of their pre-existing loophole!
Because the company is affiliated with a reputable organization (the ASPCA), people are buying this product and then getting screwed. People have expressed interest in joining a lawsuit. I’m also interested in doing so. Interestingly, I work in the med-legal field and deal with litigation sometimes in millions of dollars. This company still nailed me. In addition, they have denied other claims totaling over a thousand dollars.

I took out an ASPCA Premium policy for both my dogs. I chose the Premium Plan because it covered an annual dental cleaning for our dogs. The premium is $75/month/dog. Under this plan, after an annual $100 deductible is met, ASPCA claims it will cover 80% of reasonable claims. I took the insurance out in December of 2008. In late February, I had one of my dog's teeth cleaned. No extractions were required. The bill was $575. The claim was submitted. ASPCA reimbursed me $113.
The reason given for this low reimbursement is that $240 is in their view what is reasonable for my geographical area. They then took $100 off the $240 and then reimbursed 80% of the remaining $140. I called to complain about the low reimbursement and was told I needed to find a less expensive vet. I then called 5 other Manhattan veterinarians and received quotes ranging from $750 to $500. The bottom line is, ASPCA's idea of reasonable charges is far below reality. They promise to cover 80% of a claim but fail to tell you that their definition of what reasonable is, is far below the actual going rates.

Our dog was in to see the vet. She had some rods put in her legs a few yrs. In 2007 she only went to the vet to get her yearly shots and that was it. Our policy started in Sept 2007. She got medicine for her knee that was infected because of her rod in June 2008. It was denied.
A few weeks later I took her in and they did blood work to check her thyroid. She is hypothyroid. Again the claims department said that it was pre-existing. I don't know how that is pre-existing when this is the first time she was diagnosis with it. I called and challenged their decision. I had her medical history in front of me when I did call so when they claim something happened at a certain date, I was ready. I was told that the info would be resent to claims department. I would be contacted in a few days.
It has been a month since I made that call and no check, explanation to my reasons for their denial or a phone call. We pay lots of money for the policy for her and I don't know how any of those claims could be pre-existing when they didn't exist when she went on the policy.

Signed up for Aspca pet insurance in Sept. 2007. Plan was not effective for 30 days and on day it took effect, my pet was taken in to clinic for treatment. The claims later submitted for partial reimbursement (which was earlier advised would be processed) were denied. No advisement or paperwork was received prior, stating the claims would be denied.
Monies paid by myself were not partially reimbursed nor were any funds applied toward the annual deductible as was earlier advised on this policy; the paperwork of policy was finally received in Nov. 2007, 2 months AFTER policy was originated.

I brought my daughter's dog to the vet for update of immunizations, nueter and declaw removal,dental cleaning and earflush. I was charged for a total sum of $1343.62 by the veterinarian ALL Creatures Hospital. Although I had purchased and paid for the Premeir insurance with ASPCA which should cover all immunizations, health or surgical procedures and preventive care,illness or injury,ASPCA excluded $1.079.62.
I had paid the veterinary office the total charges by credit card as instructed by this insurance company. I had expected at least 80% refund from this company.
In the human health care business, patients are not charge or made to pay the full amount. Rather it is the caregiver that bills directly to the insurance company with ample proof of identification from the insurance agent.
Please help intervene with this process with ASPCA. The refund check I got was not enough to cover the expenses incurred. I had the impression that I had purchased the best insurance.
Financial hardship. I was not reimbursed at least 80% of total expenses.
