This is the first, and the last time I ever use VRBO. Upon entering the house, we immediately noticed that is was gross. Not cleaned, broken toilets, garbage in drawers, grease on counters.... we called VRBO and they suggested we call the owner. No answer from the owner so we called VRBO back. Suggesting that we start looking for a new place, as this one was uninhabitable, the representative attempted to call the owner with no luck. Finally, at 9:30pm (after 4 hours) we booked another house on a different site.

At 10pm the owner called back and said that he would send a cleaner over tomorrow. We told him not to bother as we were not going to stay there (should have been done before we got there, not the next day; and he needed more than a cleaner.) After countless conversations with VRBO over several months about the accommodations and not being able to stay there, they deemed that it was not eligible for a full refund and we would get $200 out of the $1400. They claim that we should have given the host a chance to fix it before moving locations. I argued that with 4 kids, my wife and I were not willing to "rough it" as we were not camping, we were in town for an event. VRBO is awful and should not be in business as they do not see properties before posting and do not care about the renter, just the host who is making them money. We ended up finding a place on Priceline that was absolutely perfect and exceptionally clean.

We had used VRBO.com in the past but this was the 1st time I've experienced a problem with this company, I wrote a review to this company and their response was I need to watch my language, my language was exactly how I felt.. Being miles away from where you live and we had no reservation until 2 hours after being in clearwater.. Because the lady forgot to send over our reservations and we were just informed of the resort fees and parking fees. That's a whole another story.

I went to VRBO to a home for my travel to Nigeria. I chose this site because I thought it would be more protected from false advertising. I booked what I thought was a 4 bedroom duplex. Well after I confirmed the booking, the host then tells me “Oh the price online was only for one room.” I would have to pay additional fees for the other 3 rooms and to book entire house. Mind you the description never mentioned shared property. I would have easily bypassed had it. Needless to say he gave me many runarounds and excuses. Even claimed he kicked a prince out who was renting this new listing for 5 months so I could have it for a week.

Now does that even sound smart? Anyway Vrbo does not control the money. It’s all ok just so a refund is completely on them. After he begged me to pay the last fee because he needed for the diesel gas to keep the lights on, he only agreed to give me 20% of my money back. Now I could have gotten 50%, but the Vrbo agent told me I could get the full 100%. That is the only reason I didn’t do the automatic refund via the app. I spoke to 4 agents and all of them did something different. It was a horrible experience and I hate my money went to a scammer. Scammer's name is Mike ** property number **.

Properties listed as Premiere Host are suppose to be exceptional. This was not the case. We stayed in a very poorly maintained double wide trailer with holes in the floor and VRBO refused to make a refund. The property was dirty, outside furniture was broken and covered in mold. Entrance doors were covered in mold, coffee pot was covered in mold. When contacting the property owner they said, "thanks for letting us know, we will fix it". How could they have not known and yet allowed a reservation. VRBO has opened a complaint that could take months. Could not talk to anyone at VRBO. Could only communicate by "chat". Will never use VRBO again.

6 months prior to my vacation, I paid approximately $2,500 for a three day property rental. I then paid an additional $650 for a boat rental. Two weeks before my arrival, the host cancelled the reservation. Vrbo returned the property rental but refused to return the boat rental fee. I was told I had to get my money from the host. He has not returned a call in months. Come to find out. This host was under investigation and Vrbo still allowed me to rent from him and they promoted his services on their site. Just thieves. A customer left the property early in the morning because they had damaged the property and didn't want to be held liable for their actions. When I reported it to VRBO they told me to leave negative feedback so that other hosts would not have to experience this. This person is leaving negative feedback in retaliation to this but this customer damaged the property. Hosts should be able to warn others without the fear of being defamed. The feedback of others about the property is not in alignment. When I called VRBO and asked them not to allow the feedback of the customer because of the damage and threat to defame me they were no help. They also manage an affiliate with Expedia and could not manage to tell me the id for managing the Expedia account. I wanted to refute the customer feedback now I cannot because vrbo is the manager not me and they manage horribly.

My husband and I live in Ontario, Canada. On Aug 8/23 we booked with VRBO a vacation property in Ontario, Canada for Sept 6-10/23. Once we received our Visa bill it indicated that we were charged in American currency. The conversion added an additional $432.87! When we were booking there wasn't any evidence that it was in American currency. Why would we think that it wasn't in Canadian funds: we live in Ontario and booked to rent an Ontario property? The TD Visa support person who deals with disputes said that we should have pressed the Canada button on the first screen on VRBO to book in Canadian money. He said that VRBO will claim that legally they have provided the option to be on the Canadian or American site. There is no clear instruction to do so. The total amount we agreed to didn't say we were paying in American dollars. This is a scam!

VRBO is stealing money from their customers. Not only do they charge outlandish additional fees, but they also hide policies to not give money back due to cancellations, no matter the reason. We cancelled a rental, and the owner of the property gave 95% back as stated. VRBO, who charges additional fees will not give you back ANY of the additional fees unless the owners give a 100% refund. We expected at least 95% back, just as the owners gave. Be sure to review #9 in their policy, which they hide down intentionally. VRBO did nothing in this process that warrants them even getting the fee, let alone, to not return it. We cancelled 4 months prior to our reservation for the record.

In addition, we have now found that if you can find the properties themselves, you will save close to a minimum of $1000. DO NOT BOOK WITH VRBO. They are a scam and charge unnecessary additional fees. Additional cleaning fees, etc. If you end up in a situation where you have to cancel, no matter the time frame, you will be taken advantage of. I hope property owners see VRBO for what they are and list their properties separate from them.

I'll start with the fact that my husband and I have worked in the hospitality industry for years, and both Viagem and VRBO absolutely shocked us with their terrible treatment. We booked a condo in Cherry Grove through Viagem on VRBO and was told the morning of my check that it was unavailable and I would need to accept an alternate property. They only gave me one option. I called to ask for details and was told that, minus the pool that my original rental had, it was basically the same. I confirmed the property over the phone and failed to notice that it was an airbnb listing not through vrbo.

My husband and I drive 3 hours and check in our first night at 6pm. The place is absolutely disgusting. Dead and living cockroaches everywhere, dirty hand towels in the tub, unmade questionable beds and the foulest smell. We packed our car back up and I started to call viagem - the host. I was told via text that they would try to find something and then they started ignoring me. I started calling vrbo, it's after 7pm at this point and we have nowhere to stay. I'm finally told by vrbo that if the host does not give me a new property in 3 hours, that vrbo will.

Right around 9 pm, viagem contacts me and says they do not have another booking and I just need to cancel through vrbo and NOT get my money back. They then proceed to block my calls on the numbers that I have been using all day to contact them. VRBO tells my that pests and uncleaned rentals (specifically bathrooms) are considered minor inconveniences and I will not get another rental or a refund.

After hours on the phone with vrbo (until 11pm that night while I had to check in and pay for a night in another hotel) I was told the host would have to approve the refund and that vrbo was going to do nothing else to help me. I was left stranded 3 hours away and the only reason I was actually able to get a refund was because I kept ALL correspondence with viagem and continued to contact them with it. DO NOT rent from them. They will catfish you with cute photos and then switch you between vrbo and airbnb so you can't review them. Vrbo's cleanliness policies are nonexistent and their customer service is so bad it makes you feel like you're getting scammed. Don't risk your health, and just go to a hotel.

Had a problem with a vendor, en route. After flying from Toronto to San Francisco, it was past the check-in time already, and the vendor cancelled the location on me, while I was already only about 90 minutes away from the location in Lake Tahoe!!! They called me, and put me up at another location from the many they had, but on the other side of the lake (non VRBO listed property). I arrived to find the place wrapped in bear wire, a mediocre view, non-functioning television in the main area.

Upon complaining to VRBO after the fact days later, they surprisingly said that this would affect their vendor's ratings, and they take these things seriously. Complete disregard for the end user. Their "Book with Confidence Guarantee" was out the window, non-existent, even after an official complaint of 29 pages of PDF'd texts with their vendor, email confirmations, and photos of the venue for support. It seems they find more value in continuing their relationships with vendors that represent them "this way", than the end users that pay their bills. I'll stick to AirBnB from now on, which has 3 times the number of properties/listings on their site from what I understand.

Money grubbing opportunists: VRBO is charging an service fee of $316 and will not release these charges. Let’s be honest- the input of any contact information took all of 10 minutes from administrative staff. This is a scam. We had scheduled a lovely trip just two weeks prior to the devastating Maui fire. There is nothing for us to visit or support in Lahaina. Due to the need of tourist revenue we opted to not cancel our trip in entirety but to move to the opposite side of the island to Kihei. The owners of the condo graciously refunded our first payment minus $100. This is completely fair and honorable.

Direction from the governor is to stay away from Lahaina. We contacted VRBO about our refund of the service fee and because we agreed to the $100 cancellation fee they said they wouldn’t refund our money. It wasn’t a 100% refund! We booked the trip on August 1st for a November birthday celebration. VRBO is not a reasonable or fair organization and you should not support their poor business practices. I arrived late after 10pm with the kids due to traffic. The smell in the house was stale. I later found it was the aftermath smell of drugs. We found stains in the sheets, managed to sleep in the one bed that was ok. In the morning, we grabbed a towel. It had been folded wet. We tried to used the microwave, bugs crawled out from under the kitchen and linen cupboards. The shower tiles were so grimy, and the so called 2nd shower and 4th bedroom was in the basement downstairs. The kids looked out of the window to the garden wanting to play outside, there was a dead rat lying in full view by the patio chairs. By 8/9am we packed our bags and left.

We gave up our 3 night vacation, and spent one night. I emailed VRBO after contacting the host. The hosts response was despicable. E.g it was the fault of the cleaners, then the carcass of the rat that was dried up, must have been the neighborhood cats. A rat does not dry up in one day. This should have been spotted. The timer for the thermostat/air con was set to lock. She responded, "Oh the cleaners have a code." They are in church for a few hours, she couldn't get hold of them now. How do you leave soaking wet towels in a linen cupboard. We brought one towel, and myself and 2 kids had to share.

VRBO even rejected my reviews. I was told change something and resubmit. I did. Then I got a message the time has now expired to submit reviews. I asked about the review I resubmitted, immediately when asked to. This simply varnished into thin air. I received a reassuring email from someone in customer service saying he is sending this to management to review and I will hear from them. I did not. I chased for a response. I spent time on chats to follow up. All to deaf ears.

How can a host submit a 5 star rating and you inform VRBO it's a one star rating only to be ignored. To top it up, the host was allowed to give us a rating. Completely laughable. My advice to anyone using vrbo is you should not rely on the ratings. It could be a complete misrepresentation. VRBO does not fully protect its customers or value their experiences to ensure bad hosts do not rent out appalling properties. I sent over 10 pictures to vrbo. To date, I have not received a response.

According to their rep, the host can’t be held responsible for roaches, or ants. Ummm excuse me. They pay out the property owners long before the date of arrival for the customer. Zero customer service and they support criminal behaviour.

We are trying to obtain a refund of our $316.75 for a stay that was not safe and impossible from VRBO. On December 22, 2022, I set-up a reservation with VRBO for a cottage # Property ID: 388495 in Tampa, FL for August 04, 2023, which I paid via AFFIRM Loan. When we arrived on August 04, 2023 to Tampa FL, at 3:00pm, I texted the owner Kevin ** that we were here as we were instructed, and we also followed the direction given by owner via VRBO listing in how to enter the cottage.

As we proceeded per instruction, we walked through the screened in patio door, open the unlocked sliding patio doors, to the left is a room that has scattered clothes, a piece of construction material on the bed and on top of a lamp and a nightstand there was scattered clothes, personal debris all on the corner floor a toolbox. Going to the next room found another bed with scattered clothing. To the right of that room there is a large TV with scattered items around it, underneath, on the floor, coffee table with debris and personal items.

The front door of the cottage was blocked with scattered debris, couch and dining table filled with scattered items. Small kitchen has open ½ eaten food on the stove and counter, sink filled with dishes. This place was filthy and did not come anywhere close to being acceptable or safe as it was indicated on VRBO site. This cottage shows people living in it.

3:15pm same day, I called the owner because he did not text me back, and right-away I was sent directly to his voicemail where I left him a message to call me now, but he never did as the evening came upon us. I called VRBO right-away and spoke to Luis about the condition and unsafe environment of the cottage. I informed the VRBO representative that I took a video of the cottage’s condition as proof, but I am not able to send it to him because it will not let me, due to the file being too big. I will send him the video via our computer when we get home from our vacation.

Per Luis, okay, they will keep my file open till they receive the video. Due to the condition and unsafe environment of this cottage, we are forced to find other lodgings for our safety in which I informed Luis VRBO rep on this, and he stated he understands. I had my husband call our daughter to find us a hotel to stay in because we couldn’t stay at this cottage, we ended up staying at the Stay America Hilton checked in at 4:01pm 08/04/2023 where our daughter paid for it.

This is the first file VRBO created on 08/04/23 117773848, while on the phone with Luis, VRBO rep. When we arrived at our hometown in WI 08/07/23 late evening in my email I seen an email that VRBO closed this file, with no reason behind why they closed it. 08/08/23 I had to call VRBO again to provide them with the video in where they created another file, which is vrbo [** ] where the representative Nuha could not open the video I sent her. 08/14/23 I called VRBO again, because I have not received any message from them about our refund. To this day 08/23/2023 no email from VRBOR about our refund. We demand a return of our payment because to this day, I must continue to pay AFFIRM back the loan for this vacation stay at the cottage that never happened.

VRBO is a junky platform built and run by call centers overseas with no supervision or proper protocol. As a homeowner I must say I have never experienced anything worst than these idiots. Airbnb is way better experience and tech. This company is just a layer of junk upon junk and we are not talking bad homes etc because at least with those you can blame the homeowner. But not paying your rentals and making you go through legal methods to get your money is just absurd. There is not enough bad things I can say about garbage entity.

I called to report that my host was not available on the day I was supposed to check-in last September (in 2022). I was then shuffled around and given bad information from various people at VRBO because of the technology issues they were experiencing, or at least that is the excuse I was given each of the 6 times I was asked to submit the exact same information. When I finally tracked down an email address of someone high enough up in the company to get a knowledgeable person, I was informed that I needed to go through my bank before Vrbo could refund my money (this was in November of 2022- 2 months later). I initiated that process within a week of being given that information.

As soon as I got the letter back from Bank of America, I contacted Vrbo again to update my claim. A person from Vrbo, that I had previously worked with, then called me, on July 4th, to tell me that my claim was approved and that I would receive a refund. That same person called me back twice to see if I had received my money yet, and now (in August of 2023) I get an email saying that it is, in fact, denied. I can say that I am extremely disappointed in your entire company and plan on spreading this opinion as widely as I can. I have talked to 11 different people in this company and emailed at least half of them, and I have the records to back this up. I am extremely disappointed that Vrbo is not backing up their claim.

Very suspicious on why they were taking photos. We had just put out trash on the steps until we went to the dumpster and they started taking pictures and watching us the whole time we were at this rental property. That is invading our privacy. Was mislead by the pictures. Stated a house but was actually a condo. Other companies were charging $220 a night VRBO charged us over $400 a night. Had to leave immediately. Kept messaging and calling host. No answer. We had to spend more money on hotel rooms and we couldn't cook the food we took not to mention we got the house in order to spend valuable time with a family visiting. Couldn't get that from separate hotel rooms. The day after we talked to VRBO and after 2 hours they pretty much said we weren't getting a refund if the host didn't want to after we had proof of the bed bugs. Finally got the host to answer and he said it was too close to 10pm and he was going to sleep that he would call back in some days. VRBO cares more about the host than the guests. I do not recommend this app at all or the house we stayed at. **.

Many issues using VRBO and they do not care. We were trying to book a short vacation rental. Somewhere during the process we were switch from the Canada site to the US one. We found a place showing $111 per night. Booked it. The confirmation came back at $140 per night. They claim it was USD. Then the credit card charge was more than the quoted amount. Last and the big one. VRBO charges us their $81.00 fee even before the reservation was confirmed. Apparently it should not have even been for rent because of the Wild Fires in BC.

Upon contacting VRBO I first tried the automated system and the person was not willing to do anything other than give us the phone number. When calling the person kept interrupting me when trying to give the requested information. Then they said they could do nothing because the Vendor had not cancelled the reservation. Finally after way too much time he called the Vendor and then said they would cancel the reservation, but it would be at least another week before we would get our refund. WHAT A JOKE. NO ONE should charge anything until the reservation is finalized. They way over charge and then offer NO SERVICE. Not impressed at all.

We rented a home on VRBO, which we do almost weekly for business. Well this time, my team arrived to the house and found it to be hot. The AC was running but the house wasn't getting cool. It was 77 degrees at 9:30. I tried working with the Owner, asking that they have someone look at it in the morning, and she blamed it on the heatwave. After a lot of going back and forth, the owner said she would cancel our reservation and asked us to leave the next day (actually they wanted us to leave that night but couldn't do this). We agreed to pay 1 night and the cleaning fee.

The Owner did refund us the other nights but said we had to contact VRBO to collect the lodging tax and service fee. We reached out to them and they explained that it was their policy that they don't refund this money unless it was 100% refundable. I didn't cancel...The house was hot but somehow, we are penalized?? The amount is not huge but I find it unethical that they can collect taxes and not refund us our money? Terrible customer service and despite the fact that we probably spend in excess of $100K a year in VRBO, they couldn't do the right thing?! Terrible decisions. We have choices and will go elsewhere with our business.

On May 30, 2023 I reserved a vacation home for rent. The property was listed on VRBO, and was one of several being offered by a company called SnugSpotBnB, LLC. I gave a deposit, followed by full payment on June 14 to pay for July 13-19 stay. I researched as much as possible before booking and had several emails from SngSpot with all the info needed for our rental including confirmation of payment in full. The day of our arrival, I emailed the property manager at 10:30 AM to ask if we could check in early, between 1 and 2 o’clock. She said she would check and get back to me. Just before 2:00 PM, the property manager emailed and said she was very sorry but our reservation was being cancelled due to the sudden death of the property host and our money would be refunded.

No phone call, no offer to help us find alternative lodging, leaving 2 senior citizens stranded in a strange city and out $1000. After many calls to VRBO, we eventually received our money back despite SnugSpot ghosting both me and VRBO. This experience ruined our vacation and has made us resolve to never use a vacation rental service again. I was not able to leave a review on VRBO since we didn’t stay at the property.

On the other hand host is not willing to cancel the reservation and issue a refund. Very poor resolving skills, very disappointing that they ask for time to even review my case when there’s a date provided by the government of BC. They are asking time to provide feedback but not willing to provide a timeline to tell their decision. I won’t recommend Vrbo with poor customer management skills.

When the payment has gone through Vrbo, I would say first settle your customer then deal with your host about it. The situation about wild fires and travel ban is very clear up to the date today but action taken by Vrbo is very slow and poor. Even though the property has no cancellation policy, it’s understandable that eligibility of a refund is considered for situations like natural disasters.. First property we rented owner cancelled at the last minute because their renovation wasn't complete as they had promised. (Why is VRBO allowing uninhabitable properties on its website?) So we found another place that we knew would be old and rough. However, it was terrible. Description of property was dishonest: the deck was rotting and splintered. Every screen door and many windows were broken. Spider webs, dead leaves and other debris everywhere. Grill didn’t work. Refrigerator leaked in two places. A bat in the cottage at night. Host was ambivalent. We gutted it out because we were in the area for a reunion and knew there was nothing else available in the area.

My issues with VRBO are: it allowed this property to be listed on its site at all. It allowed a fraudulent description of the property (for example - there were six bedrooms but one reeked of natural gas and one had no slats under the mattress so no one could sleep on it). AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, it blocked my review so future guests don’t know how bad it is. It made $475 off this transaction for not only doing nothing but abetting fraud. I would not rent from this website. It is just a money making scheme.

The basement room does not have a window and cannot qualify as a room, it's dark, dingy and a fire hazard. The towels, sheets, and pillows are very old, musty, and have a smell that is unbearable. The grill is very old and dirty. Towel racks in the bathrooms all broken. Thermostats did not work. I have never had such a bad experience renting a property. Owner sent a text message saying leave a 5 star review or none at all. Explains why there are only either 5 star reviews here or none. To this day waiting for a response from owner or vrbo. They offered us money to NOT leave a review. My family rented a house from Eastern Shore Vacation Rentals via VRBO.com from 6/17 to 6/24. We were disappointed with the experience. Over the years we have rented dozens of properties for vacations and other events. After reflection, it may have been the worst of them all for the following reasons:

    Check in
1- We never received the text with the access code to the lockbox prior to our arrival.
2- Your “portal” did not help and did not appear to be working.
3- There was no one to answer our call to your office and The prompt “press 2 for customer service “ only looped us back to the original menu.
4- We left voice messages and emails that went unanswered.
5- Only after calling many times and pressing “2” did it finally appear to forward up to another number, where we also left voice mails that went unanswered.
6- I wrote down the forwarding number and attempted to reach this person by text.

7- At this point, about 2 hours had passed. I received a text with the code for the lockbox and we entered. During the wait, 2 of us were searching for alternative places to stay, since it appeared that we were not getting into the house we paid for. We never heard from anyone about our troubles until Sunday.

    The property
1- The exterior of the house is shabby. Mold or algae on the siding, really dirty window sills, missing screens, lots of weeds and debris, especially along side shared with yacht company.
2- The detached garage is furnished like a living room, but the floors and seat cushions were dirty and sandy. We spent some time cleaning it out so we could use it.
3- Master bathroom door wouldn’t close.
4- Hall bath shower didn’t get hot. I believe this has to do with the on demand hot water heater.
5- Hall bath sink faucet very loose, freely moving around.
6- We intended to use the grill to cook and had food prepared for that purpose. But the 2 tanks were empty and we didn’t get a fresh tank until Monday.
7- Interior needs repairs. Not just what’s mentioned above, but there is water damage on some ceilings, patchy painting, rusty heating vents, and water damaged woodwork.

8- The kitchen needs to be remodeled. The contents of the kitchen, the utensils, pots/pans, all seemed soiled. And with the grill not working the first two nights, we had to cook inside.

In summary, we feel like your property was misrepresented online. Your customer service was non existent when we needed it. Your portal is not functional. Based on your offer of money to not leave a review- your business practices are unethical.

We recently stayed a a VRBO rental in VA Beach. 2221 Vadito Way. Property # 4776380ha. While we had a great time coming together as a family, I am truly disappointed in this property. The properties, the amenities and the the overall cleanliness of it all was not worth the amount of money we paid and should honestly be refunded due to the number of issues with the amenities. Had we not paid that much and had a smaller group we would have worked to find other accommodations. I suggest the owners take the money they receive to really clean and update your home.

    Pool House/Pool:

    - Door to the fence hanging off. Struggle to open to get in and out.

    - Hot tub worked for one day. Never completely filled up or got hot. The jets worked sporadically.

    - Outside seating and patio ceiling fans were extremely old and rusted. Haven’t been replaced in ages. And covered in cobwebs and spiders. Didn’t use the outside ceiling fans in the pool house due to their extremely poor condition.

    - The grill was absolutely disgusting!!! There was caked on oil/grease and it was clear the grill had not been cleaned in years. There was old food still caked on and in the bottom of the grill. The grill itself didn’t even work properly. One section of the grill would get warm but never enough to even grill a hotdog. The other side didn’t even light. After attempting to fix it we had to go to Walmart and get charcoal to grill on the mini grill, which was also disgusting and filled with old charcoal and cigarette butts.

    - The grill area itself was filthy. It had not been cleaned. The fridge was full of beer from previous guest. The range (two eyes) were dirty and was inoperable. This is not an area where I would have wanted to cook. It’s nasty and old and needs to be replaced.

    - The common area in the pool house was extremely hot. The thermostat was set at 83° and required a code to change the temp. After reaching out to Ron, we were told the thermostat was broken and that the two bedrooms in the pool-house have AC units that needed to be run. Keeping the bedroom doors open will cool the entire space. That however did not happen.

    - The bathroom next to the sauna had a broken toilet seat and lid.

    - The sauna did not work. We had to keep fiddling around with the breaker in order to get power to the sauna. We only had a “warm” sauna for 2 of our 4 day stay.

    - The room next to the sauna had an AC unit that kept getting error messages that caused it to cut on and off making for an uncomfortable night's rest for our guest.

    - The room next to the sauna also had a colony of ants.

    - The second room in the pool-house had 3 roaches.

    - It did not seem as if the home had been treated for bug as there was a large amount of mosquitos and ants around the pool-house property.

    - The panel that controlled the pool and hot tub constantly lost power and would not properly recognize any inputs we would put in for the pool or hot tub.

    Main house

    - The house overall is very dated and not clean. Upon walking into the house you notice the old mess of the front door. Looking up you see the awning to the house had not ever been cleaned and it was riddled with dirt, bugs and spiderwebs. Walking into the house you can tell it was dated. And while we knew that from the pictures, we did not expect such a dated home to also not be clean. There was dust everywhere and cobwebs in just about every corner. The small family/library space has a front window that let in a lot of light but as you open the curtains there are dead bugs.

The main family room was a nice size with a TV, an organ of some sort, and a child’s play table. However, the faux leather couch needs to be replaced. The cushions were peeled or peeling. The kitchen was a nice size. However, small corner areas of the kitchen were not clean and there was food on the floor when we arrived. The eating space was not properly swept and again, cobwebs and dirt in corners of the room.

    - Lighting was also an issue, while lights worked, the number of light switches around the home was ridiculous. In the kitchen area alone, there were 6/7 switches for one space and left so much confusion.

    - The bedrooms and bathrooms were ok with the exception of the large room with 4 beds. The AC did not work and the guest made sure to keep the blinds down to keep the room cool. The room was hot all weekend and we had to purchase small fans from Walmart to make the space comfortable for our time there.

    - The hallway bathroom on the second floor did not have hot water in the sink. And the doors were difficult to open and close.

One major concern we had was about some of the artwork. If that’s what you want to call it. In the hallway bathroom upstairs were 3 blackface monkey pictures hanging. As a group of ** spending over $8K we in no way expected to be greeted by black face images in the home. Offended is a huge understatement and something MUST be done about those images.

There was also a large painting of a naked woman with her breast out in the master bathroom. We certainly understand that this is a person's home, however, once you make the decision to make this a rental space you must now be mindful of what you have in the home. No guest should have to see nude women or blackface, PERIOD.

We also were rather uncomfortable with the large number of family pictures in the home. We understand that this is someone’s property but the large number of images of the family especially the children was rather off putting. I do not think it is a smart idea to have large number of family images in a home that gets rented out to strangers.

The day following the devastating fire (Aug 11th) I called VRBO to ask what I should do about my upcoming trip given the comments by Hawaii’s Governor, the Tourism Board and even the President of the United States. Specifically, their request to cancel any unnecessary travel to the island. VRBO told me to contact the host, Maui Rental Group/VTrips, and I spoke to property manager and supervisor Agnes.

I was told since I was within 60 days of my paid rental I could not get my money refunded but I could switch to another date within a year. We simply don’t want to visit Maui anytime soon out of respect for the many who have died and the local residents trying to cope with the magnitude of this disaster. I understood Agnes was worried about losing the commission by refunding my 2k dollars, but when she told me the authorities had not mandated cancelling upcoming travel, only recommended it, and that we would still have a great celebration I knew she was delusional. VRBO was complicit in making the change for the owner and adding an extra payment for me. I let them know I would not pay the increase, so the owner canceled my reservation. This is against FTC regulations and VRBOs own policy. And, can you get a manager to resolve the problem — no. Such unethical practices might be expected from a lesser company, but VRBO/Expedia is a travel industry leader. How can I, or anyone for that matter, trust a booking you make with VRBO or Expedia.

The renter canceled on us because she had "sold the property". If she was planning on selling this property, she had no business renting this property so far ahead. We made long-term plans based on renting at this location! Why bother renting through VRBO if there is no protection against such behavior. Vrbo should have not only refunded our large deposit, but also provided us with a substantial discount or allowance for a new rental.

Rented a condo at 790 New River Inlet Road 318A, North Topsail Beach, North Carolina July 19-22, 2023 through VRBO and the owners ABK Realty. After traveling 11 hours to get there for a family wedding in that area we entered the condo and were absolutely let down. The conditions of the condo were unacceptable and did not look like the pictures posted on VRBO. We paid a lot of money for the waterfront unit, but could not see out the window due to the fact the seal was broken and condensation within the window fogged it up. We could not keep the door shut, there was pubic hair in one of the beds and the AC unit, and the louver door which was in the main hallway of the unit was ABSOLUTELY disgusting. It obviously was not serviced as it was covered in filth and mold. No way we could stay there.

I immediately contacted the owner and sent pictures. I demanded my money back and after weeks on the phone and emails I have only received a tinny portion of my over $3,000.00 fee. We had to rent 2 hotel rooms 90 minutes away from the family wedding. Needless to say our weekend was ruined as we spent so much time in the car commuting back and forth. VRBO has basically left it up to me to deal with the owner who is not responding. Each time I call VRBO to get help with this I have to start over with a new customer service agent. Any email correspondence I have with a VRBO agent ends the next day with a message saying this email is no longer being monitored by VRBO.

Let me tell you VRBO is all about the owners and not the renters. VRBO has the pictures I took and sent to the owner, but their response is still to work it out with the owner. Obviously, they have no criteria as to what can be rented. So now I am out over $3,000 in VRBO fees, 2 hotel rooms for 3 nights, and now have to hire an attorney to fight this. I will NEVER rent from VRBO again and watch out for ABK Realty in North Topsail Island, NC. See attached pictures.

Upon arriving at the booked lake house property, my family and I were immediately disappointed by the conditions we found. The property was unclean, with insects and spider webs prevalent in the kitchen, dining area, and patio. The kayaks, a primary attraction for our lake activities, were in an unsatisfactory state due to dirt and insects. We contacted the property owner, who brushed off our concerns and suggested that we clean the property ourselves, which was an unreasonable response. VRBO customer support simply said that it's a minor issue and they cannot help us in any way. They just charge money in advance on behalf of host that to a premium amount with no responsibility at all. Airbnb would never do that. Not gonna book any property with them anymore.

We rented a condo a block from Carolina Beach from July 5 -9. We arrived to find someone else staying there. We contacted the owner, who was apologetic and helpful, and were told that VRBO has double booked his property multiple times. We called VRBO and had to repeat what happened to three separate people before someone could help us. We were told that they would put us in a hotel for the first two nights, and their team would be finding us a place for the last two nights. We never heard from them.

Was finally able to get someone on the phone and was told we were responsible for finding lodging for our last two nights, but would be reimbursed. We were told in an email and by three people on the phone that we would be reimbursed for the last two nights. Now they are refusing to pay. I even emailed the corporate office at Expedia as they are the parent company, but no one has responded. They seem not to care that they caused a lot of stress during a time that is supposed to be relaxing. When I told a supervisor that we would no longer use VRBO, he said "ok" and hung up.

I have been immunocompromised over the past year after and am still considered immunocompromised. Host did not acknowledge the cleanliness issue when presented with it. After leaving, booking a hotel, and filing a VRBO claim, we were not contacted until the trip was over the next week. The claim was denied, apparently cleanliness is not covered under their "book with confidence guarantee" and I would have to have the hosts refund the booking.

When I asked them for a refund, the hosts immediately became hostile and sexist towards me and refused a refund without hearing my side. They refused to acknowledge the pictures I took, the receipts from the hotel, any proofs I had and just kept calling me a liar. Literally calling me a liar, not claiming untruth. They called me a liar more than 30 times on the phone and every time I would start to speak, they would cut me off by calling me a liar. VRBO did nothing to protect me from these crooks or protect my physical health by not covering cleanliness on their booking with confidence guarantee. I ended up not only losing my $1400 to these con artists, but I also had to pay for a hotel room on top of it.

I prefer hotels but Anna Maria island well there aren’t any that I know of and everything was booked. I turned to VRBO. I should’ve turned around. The property was inundated with mold! I called Vrbo instead of the host as to avoid confrontation thinking Vrbo had my back. No not at all. I found 1 vacancy on the whole island under 600 a night. And went there. We left our clothes at the Vrbo rental because we weren’t sure if we were going to find another place. While on the phone with Vrbo they called the property owner which lives 3 houses away from the rental. Super unprofessional for Vrbo to do that. What if the host that we never met was a thief or worse? Made us so uncomfortable we rushed to the rental from the beach to grab our bags and leave asap as we don’t know this person from a hole in the wall.

We sent pictures of the black mold all over the place to Vrbo and they said “black mold isn’t considered a health risk and the property is still habitable.” Stick to hotels you have a better chance of getting your money back or another room provided to you. After pleading with the property owner for a refund I got one after several days only by the host's discretion. I found out from the host that the house is being torn down next month due to damages from a hurricane a year prior. Save your money stay at a hotel because apparently the Vrbo homes that don’t have these or other problems are not affordable for most people. I will never use vrbo again. As a Host, I have not been able to reliably access my site for about two weeks because an ad for One Key blocks me, and doing everything that promotional window leads to still did not open my site. At one point, my site was opening to the UK version with prices in pounds.

Now someone trying to reserve time at my chalet just wrote, "I have tried to reply back to you. This is another computer that I am trying. I live in Hickory and was just wanting one night for our anniversary. I could not get through that one key stuff. Let me know if you are still available." I have talked THREE TIMES on the phone with so-called Vrbo Support and sent 3 written complaints asking them to correct the programming and make my site available to me as it has been for over a decade. No results.

When I tried a few minutes ago to submit the traveler's complaint about the blockade he also ran into, their "CONTACT US" button led me to several more walls with the only feasible action being to CALL them. They charge $600 to list my property and make more from every booking. They sure have plenty of money coming in. That they continue to not maintain even average standards of service for me as a long-time Host is very disappointing. This website bug incidentally is their second unresolved instance of breathtaking mismanagement in the last month.

Our Condo we rented In new Smyrna Beach Florida. Address is Pelican Perch 530 Esther St. new Smyrna, Beach Florida se 32169. We rented this condo for my husband’s 60th birthday with a couple family members. Upon arrival the condo seemed OK. We noticed a lot of construction going on to the condo windows and such exposed insulation in the master bedroom. One of the garages we couldn’t use because they had windows in there so that really limited parking but it was clean. It was conveniently located to the beach.

The parking was very tight but doable. Lots of stairs. Pretty much had everything we needed... Upon arrival we noticed the lights flickering a lot on the main floor. My husband is an electrician and he said that’s not good but we were on vacation and dealt with it. We were to stay there from Thursday to the following Wednesday. On Sunday night of our stay we were celebrating my husband’s birthday and the lights on the main floor kitchen living room went out for about 20 minutes. Came back on for about five minutes and went back out for the remainder of the night. That obviously ended our celebration.

We contacted the owner that evening. Heard back from her about 2 o’clock in the afternoon the next day. She said if we would like to check out early that she would refund one day back to us. So we spent hours doing that required housework stripping the beds, doing the laundry, making sure all the bed laundry was washed which is a requirement. We went ahead and checked out a day early And contacted the owner about the one day refund she said we would get. And our cleaning fee back of an additional $200 on top of the $350, cleaning fee. She gave us $100 back for a condo that cost $4200 for five nights. She said she felt that was fair. Not only did we lose one entire day at the condo but we also lost an entire night of celebrating my husband’s birthday because we couldn’t see. I feel like if a owner offers an entire day back refund if we check out early that we should’ve got a entire day back of fees.

My family and I booked a trip over a year ago near Traverse City, MI that would fit nine people comfortably. With amenities such as six bedrooms, two bathrooms.

Ultimately nearly a month before the trip we got canceled on by the host with no explanation. Soon after we reached out to Vrbo support for assistance... This is where everything worsens. Being told initially within 72 hrs that a booking team will have another place for us and they will contact us. Unfortunately, the 72 hrs surpassed and we called nearly everyday being told the "re-booking team is working on it" with no results or communication. In addition, we were also assured by Vrbo's Confidence Guarantee that another property would be found and even if the property was more expensive they would help cover.

After two weeks of continually reaching out nothing was found. To add to the frustration we were able to find a replacement property ourselves just to be canceled on by the host a second time! Eventually, some comps were shared by a support representative that were thousands of dollars more just to be told Vrbo will not be helping in any way. So two weeks before a vacation after booking a year in advance is now null. Thanks Vrbo. You have caused my family anxiety and frustration that can never be mended.

We were forced to pay 3xs what it cost our original rental. I will not use it promote this company to family or friends. Be leery of using their service, obviously they do not have secure procedures for homeowners that rent their property. We have traveled the world using AirBnB, and never experienced this problem. VRBO did refund our rental cost, not the extra for the alternative space.

I have had my share of not-so-great experiences with Airbnb but in the end, they always came through, although you have to spend hours on phone with them. VRBO seems 1000 times worse than Airbnb. We booked a vacation rental in Hawaii using VRBO and were eagerly looking forward to it. Once we checked in the house was in a horrible condition. It looked as if it was not cleaned between guests. There were roaches in dishwasher, hair on the floor, unflushed toilet paper, food particles all over the countertop, unclean/used towels.

We immediately alerted the host and VRBO. We sent 30+ photos and videos of roach sightings. I was communicating with the host via VRBO chat so I can have record of everything. The host agreed that their regular cleaners were out of town and she doesn't know if the temp cleaners did the cleaning or not. The host said that she can't schedule the cleaners until the next one or two days. We refused with that resolution as we didn't want to stay in a dirty house.

VRBO said that they would provide alternative accommodation until the house gets cleaned. The host agreed to change the reservation to start on the next day so we don't be charged for that one night we can't stay. We left the keys inside the home and left the house waiting for VRBO to send us alternative accommodation details. We waited for couple of hours and had to call back as it was almost close to 10 PM. Keep in mind that we left the keys inside the house and at this point we don't have the keys to the vacation home anymore.

We called VRBO again to see what happened to our alternative accommodation. The new agent we spoke to says that what was told to me was not the standard procedure. They said that the VRBO has to confirm with the host regarding the 1-night refund. We told the agent that the host agreed to it on the chat and the previous agent told us they will find us alternative accommodation. The new agent refused to do anything as she was trying to contact the host to get 1 night cancellation confirmation. It was past midnight where the host lives so the host didn't respond.

By this time, it was almost midnight where we were. The agent kept telling me that we can't get alternate accommodation. We informed the agent that we don't even have the keys to get it. At this point the agent said that VRBO can't provide alternative accommodation but can reimburse us for up to $150 and that we have to make our own booking. We were in Hawaii and there was absolutely nothing available for under $1000 a night. I don't understand how VRBO can leave their customers stranded in the middle of the night.

It is ridiculous that they offered $150 in the first place. What makes it worse that it came with so many conditions that it is impossible to get that $150. The requirements were that I need to book with Expedia or Hotels.com or directly with the hotel. If I found accommodation on any other 3rd party website or any of the credit card portals, then they wouldn't reimburse $150.

It is beyond my comprehension how VRBO is still in business. We ended up cancelling the accommodation as the host couldn't promise the house would be cleaned in a timely manner as their regular cleaners were out of town. VRBO refused to help as they said that the host agreed to clean the house "at some point" during our stay. VRBO also said that they require proof of multiple roach sightings to consider the home unsanitary. I was only able to send 6 different roach sighting videos as every time I open a cabinet door or dishwasher, roaches run so fast that it's impossible to catch them on video. Apparently 6 sightings is not enough proof.

Since the listing was cancelled, I can't even write a review. I got all of my money back as the host agreed to cancel but we lost almost 1 whole day in our 10-day vacation and also had to spend ~5x the original amount to find last minute accommodation. I know there is nothing I can do now but just wanted to rant somewhere.

I used to get 70% of my bookings thru HomeAway and now maybe 20% as AirBnB is eating their lunch. I’ve tried to reach out to them to make someone who might care aware of the issues… no one cares…. As a premier host no one has ever reached out to ask me what works or not. A culture of delusion and cost management.

VRBO is not a company you want to use for your vacation rentals, they will lie or not disclose the truth about the house they are advertising. Recently a property we rented for a family gathering needed to have 6 individual rentals in one area in Houston. We found it and then right after the last payment was sent they told us the property was sold so we had to scramble to find another one which VRBO basically told us this was all they had, the price did not change but we were put in a rather seedy area, the apartments smelled of ** and no one of the party of 12 felt safe.

We paid for 3 night for each of the 4 apartments and left after the first night. Since VRBO started I was a client of theirs as a property owner renting my Carribean home to many people but had to leave this company after about 2 years of model changes and the fees they add to the customers. They say it's to help with the service they provide which sucks! I would warn any potential owner and/or renter from using them. Try to reach out to the owners directly, if it's rental company on VRBO stay away from them as well, they don't give a crap about you as a customer.

We were staying at a VRBO property in the Cadaques Caribe in Dominicus Americus, Dominican Republic. Property ID:6359317ha. When we first arrived we were met by the property contact, Lucy. She got us signed in and a golf cart to the apartment. We had to park all the way down by the lobby. She showed us around the apartment and then left us to settle in. It was very hot in the living room. I turned on the ac. It turned on, but it was just blowing hot air. The ac in the room worked, but it was very weak. It was 88 degrees in the living room. We tried to close the shades, but they were stuck halfway up. I put up a sheet over the window to keep the heat out.

Then I tried to turn on the TV and that didn’t work. I tried to plug in the devices and realized that the power was out. Only three plugs worked. The bathroom plug, one behind the fridge and the Wi-Fi plug. So I plugged my son's tablet to charge in the bathroom and when I pulled it out, the entire socket came out. There were napkins stuffed between the ceiling and the room fan. I contacted the owner (Ramiro) at 4:03pm and property contact, Lucy, at 4:03pm and Gloriana at 4:34pm. Gloriana got back to me that someone is coming to check the apartment at 4:39pm and then told us not to use the washer with any other electric appliances. (We just got in 30 minutes ago and had not even thought of the washer- which FYI had no dryer or drying rack). Lucy told us at 4:39pm that someone was coming to verify everything and his name was Danilo (which was her husband).

I called VRBO on 7/3 at 4:27pm and the first representative said the host had 2 hours to fix the problem. If they can't fix it then we could call back and get a refund. We needed to email proof of the problems and he sent me an email. While we were videotaping everything, Danilo showed up and started to look over everything. He fixed the breaker so the plugs worked, but informed us that the fuse was loose and that was the property's problem. Then he looked at the a/c and called someone else to come over. He checked the bathroom electrical socket and banged on it, which is when it cracked. Then he tried to pull down the shades- took a few tries, but he managed to untangle the wires and get it to lower more.

We sent our proof through email and called VRBO back at 5:28pm. After a while of explaining the problem and him looking into the evidence, the second agent said that he would transfer me to the American Warranty Guarantee department. Then I was told he got approval from his supervisor give me a refund and I would get an email. He told me the first agent didn't make notes, but he noted everything and it wouldn't be a problem. We left thinking it was sorted. Then later that night, I chatted with an agent on the live chat and she told me only the host can refund a traveler. I called in at 11:09pm. I called once more and the third representative assured me that we would get a refund and it would take 72 hours for the American Warranty Guarantee department to email me with a refund.

I called on 7/7 at 11:28am, which was longer than 72 hours. After he reviewed the case, this representative said that only the host can refund it. He said these were a minor issues and it couldn’t be handled by them. Today I chatted with an agent who flat out refused to give me the agents names or their notes. She wouldn't answer any questions about the "warranty guarantee department" or if the two hour rule is a real thing. She wouldn't tell me anything. She also wouldn't let me know how travelers would know about minor and major issues and how they can be refunded. VRBO is not a good company and I don't want anyone to make the same mistake.

VRBO was an excellent product until it was sold by the founding couple. Big Tech, in their usual fashion, made numerous "improvements" to the product which took all control away from the property owners. Then the fees for starting escalating annually, while the quality and usefulness of the product constantly erodes. The system has been down for the better part of a week. Owners cannot respond to rental requests because we are locked out. No communication from VRBO HQ in Austin. Millions in rent revenues being lost by the owners and renters getting angry that the owners are not responding/confirming. Because we can't Mr. Jeff Hurst! All this while ZERO has been communicated about when the systems will be restored.

One hour and 15 minutes on hold just to be told by a rather nice, polite, but exasperated Customer Support Rep that "we are aware there is a problem without our latest upgrade but the company has given us no update as to when the problems will be repaired. Sorry!" I think Jeff Hurst, current CEO has A LOT OF EXPLAINING TO DO about why the company is hiding their technical shortcomings and failing their customers. Both owners and renters. Perhaps Peter Kern, Vice Chairman and CEO of the Expedia Group needs to do some investigating into VRBO's operations and evaluate who is running the show there.

My prediction is a CLASS ACTION lawsuit is brewing. Rightfully so! Let's just kick it up to the deeper pockets of the Expedia Group. Your call Mr. Kern! Yes, we are angry. Yes, we are going to be tenacious in getting just compensation for our losses! You owe us that much. Could all have been mitigated by simply and honestly communicating with those who pay your salaries.

BUT I discovered something about Vrbo along the way: they won't hesitate to flat out LIE in order to get your "case" bungled through the system. Example? They said a review which I requested to be rescinded was indeed removed when in fact it was not. They arbitrarily close your "case" without resolution, apparently in an attempt to wear the consumer down to a surrendering fool? The website is not user friendly either. I also was looking for a room on the main floor which I directly asked the person holding the landlord tittle. Furthermore, sometimes after a long day, she needs a walker, this rental agreement is too stringent and is not welcoming for a elderly person or handicapped. I will be looking into the Oregon state laws on this, I do know this exceeds the demands for ADA on a federal level. The other homes in the area have mold including one of the other properties I looked at owned by this company. Most people of 70+ years have other issues with declining age, like asthma, and COPD.

First experience booking through VRBO. Had to contact them upon arriving at the reservation regarding safety concerns and inaccurate information/unavailable amenities with the property. The property was listed as a 4 bedroom but only had two with a bunk house. It said it would accommodate 12 people but only fit 10. There were safety hazards with the deck (holes in deck, super soft spots, fencing completely detached and hanging, etc.). These were all expressed. There were several amenities missing (hot tub not set up, rec room condemned, pool unavailable, etc). VRBO requested the representative apologized and requested I send pictures. I did this.

I sent several as well as a short clip of the safety hazards. The representative said once the information came through that they would be in touch. This never happened. We had to purchase an air mattress and Had one person sleep in a vehicle. I spoke with host and requested some kind of reimbursement. They said after they received a review they would discuss. I submitted a very “matter of fact” review and left out several details due to being advised I would not receive any compensation until after the review was received.

Once review was received host issued me $70.00 of the $1010.00 paid. I then received an email from VRBO stating the case was closed and wanted to be rating on my customer service experience. I provided feedback and expressed how I felt this was not handled properly and how the host manipulated the outcome of the review. This was an awful experience and one that caused a great deal of grief and stress in our first vacation out of province since Covid. Seems after looking at all the VRBO reviews I am preaching to the choir, but DO NOT EVER book with VRBO. They are an an AirBnb wannabe and never will be. Their customer service is horrible! Always someone working from overseas that I can barely understand. Half the time they drop the call (I believe on purpose). I booked a trip through (reservation #Property ID: 2973254) VRBO instead of AirBnb simply because I could not find what I was looking for. A week before the trip I was curious that I did not receive any messages informing me of my stay, check in instructions etc. So I reached out through the VRBO messaging system to the owner (who in this case was a management company) No return message. I then called their customer service number listed on the VRBO reservation. No answer. I left a message with no return call. I did this 5 different times throughout the week with no luck.

I then sent other messages through VRBO messaging system, no answers. I then call VRBO to investigate this, I was put on hold numerous times while the agents tried to reach the owner, they couldn't get through either. So they created a useless ticket number (**) to supposedly "expedite" my request for a refund. After calling back and forth spending hours on the phone I gave up. VRBO should stand behind those they allow to be on their platform. They are supposed to do the vetting so that we have no concerns about the validity of who they represent through their platform. However, VRBO refuses to return my money for accommodations I could not use. They finally said it's the owner who should reimburse me. That's the problem VRBO! Don't you get it?

The company won't answer their phone, returns calls or messages? Now it's up to you to stand behind your booking platform! Then you need to go after the owner themselves. Good luck with that. This is not over. I will leave warning reviews across the internet and file a complaint with the BBB as well. I might even get a small claims attorney involved. This is pretty simple. Why don't you get it?

So VRBO was unavailable to us, though we tried all night to contact them.

We were unable to find a room to stay in Paris, but since our IDs were in the apartment the 4 cab rides we took in search of a room would have been in vain no matter what. Without ID you cannot check into lodging in Paris. We spent a cold night and most of the next day locked out of our apartment because the owner, who could only be reached via VRBO message, did not offer any help. We missed our flight, since our passports and luggage were in the apartment and we had to find a hotel outside of Paris to stay after our sleepless night. When I see commercials saying you can talk to a real person, I am amazed that they can lie like that.

We booked a two bedroom home in Anaconda through VRBO. When we arrived and got in we found it already occupied by really dirty occupants who obviously had no intention of leaving. I am not a neat freak but it was disgusting, think earwax covered q tips on the counter and food, drink slops and dirty underwear everywhere. No reply from the host and VRBO kept me on the phone, while sitting in the car in the rain, for nearly two hours and then just said sorry we can't help. They made zero effort to find us somewhere else as promised and we had no contact from the owner. By this time it was getting late and we couldn't find any other pet friendly properties so had to drive three hours back home. The worst part is that he cancelled and refunded the next day (no reason why) so I couldn't leave a review. Which means their review process is useless. What is the point of having reviews if people can't share such awful experiences.

Spoke with the home owner and they said if we left immediate they would fully refund us and they would come back home. Had they not offered the refund I would have stayed with my kids and my husband would have gone home. After calling many times, I finally spoke to someone that told me that VRBO had a glitch in the system, so the tax forms weren't being recorded properly. They finally release the money owed.

    Original Review: June 17, 2023

I have been getting the runaround from VRBO customer service about my payout for recent rentals. VRBO is not releasing owner payout, and this is a common issue from my research. They are holding the money for 30+ days and are likely collecting interest on what they are holding. This is criminal and needs to be looked into by federal regulators. VRBO needs to distribute payment in a timely manner. I would stay clear of using their services. I will update accordingly.

On 4/29/2023, I paid $436.59 to Vrbo for 6 nights' rental - from 4/30/2023 at 4 pm to 5/06/2023 - of an apartment in Houston, TX for my friend who was coming to town. The host did not send the codes needed to access the property until May 1 at 11:19 pm when she sent a "welcome" email with the codes. We tried to contact her on the 30th the only way provided, through the website, but got no response. We also tried to reach Vrbo but could not get through because the "support" link on the page did not work. My friend had to book another place to sleep. She booked it through Friday because at that point the contract was broken by Vrbo and we were relieved of our obligations to perform under the contract (i.e. pay). "First Breach Doctrine, Texas Law: "When a contracting party commits

a first breach, the other party is relieved of its obligations under the contract."

I called Vrbo numerous times about a refund since we were clearly denied access and was always told to contact the host, who did not respond once. On Friday when my friend's other rental ended, she decided to check out the apartment on Vrbo for the last night to try to mitigate the owner's damages. But when we entered the apartment, we found that it was filthy - sheets dirty and bed unmade; towels used; trash cans full. So we declined to make another agreement with Vrbo and the host and left. Vrbo now says I am not entitled to a refund because the lack of cleanliness of a rental place is not covered by their "Book with Confidence Guarantee", completely ignoring the fact that we were wrongly denied access to the property at the start of the rental, thereby voiding our agreement.

They actually told me that it was acceptable to be forced to sleep on someone else's used sheets. This is not only disgusting, it is unsanitary and a health

hazard, especially in this time of COVID. I made no less than 10 calls and wrote many emails to Vrbo, always being told they were going to "escalate" the matter, but still never being to get past the first-tier agents (none of whom were in the USA) only to be told that they had tried to get the host to pay us back but she didn't respond. As I recall, the $436 charge on my card was to Vrbo, not the incompetent and non-responsive host who basically stole my money with Vrbo's help.

The entire week leading up to our vacation I was unable to log into my reservation via phone or computer, or the site told me my reservation didn't exist, so there were many panicked emails. My review of the property will not submit or let me resubmit, and I therefore cannot view the view the owner's review of me. The fees that get tacked onto the rental price are insane as much as they are hidden until the end of the transaction. VRBO customer service has been lukewarm at best with these issues. VRBO told me that they would call the host which they did and when the host refused to cancel the reservation, they told me their hands were tied. In Florida There is a statute allowing up to 72 hours to cancel any contract.

Neither party would honor it and for fear that I would end up in small claims court with a $6000 charge on my credit card and no place to stay I went through with the reservation when we got to the home, we found it in deplorable condition. Roach infestation, ants, mold. It was a three bedroom upscale rental, which had so much deferred maintenance that it was unbelievable for the price.

I called the host I was created in the most rude fashion. You can imagine I took videos of the bites. We endured sleeping in the beds, the dead roaches every night that we had to kill the garbage left in the kitchen, etc. again VRBO was absolutely no help. I rented through first choice Florida vacation rentals, and I would avoid them at all cost given my experience. VRBO doesn’t care about you. I recently stayed at a rental through VRBO. It was a total nightmare. We were in the middle of nowhere with the only pet friendly one available on Memorial Day weekend. Besides the horrible condition of the property. There were starving and neglected farm animals, three died while we were there over a three day period. One goat, the owner informed us, had a disease called ORF. She told us it was not contagious. It is, in fact, highly to animals and humans. I had to keep my dog out of the backyard area where the goat usually lives for the rest of our trip.

I contacted VRBO the Tuesday after the holiday to inform them and request a refund. Because they could not contact the owner by phone- no refund. Of course they aren’t going to answer. I then said forget the refund, I am concerned for future guests. The VRBO representative gave me scripted answers. I have called twice asking for a manager to speak with no calls. This company does not care about the safety of its clients. And their refund policy is ridiculous. Use Airbnb.

I literally checked out less than 48 hours ago. I was not totally impressed. The first thing was the VRBO people continued to text me over the weekend. That didn't sit right with me at all. I was on vacation. The last thing I wanted to do was answer multiple text messages. The second thing was they insisted they needed to send someone to the property to work on some tasks once we were already checked in which was an interruption and should have been handled prior to our arrival. The pictures of the property are nice but the house is not as fabulous as the website portrays it to be. The biggest things for me were the master suite had a shower curtain hanging on by 3-4 shower hooks. Looked very tacky. Some of the doors hadn't been cleaned so I'm assuming door handles either.

We booked the home because of the 7 bedrooms. One room was an addition and had no ventilation, the air unit did not work properly and the fan did very little justice so the room temp was unbearable reaching temps of close to 80 so no one was able to use room for sleeping. Which caused an issue due to the amount of guests. Another issue was the dining table chairs were very cheap and some were very wobbly and had been compromised and were not safe or secure. So we only had 3 usable chairs for dinner table. These made it very difficult when sitting down for dinner.

I did make the company aware which they requested that I go around the property and take pictures of all issues and email. Well I'm on vacation. The last thing I was interested in was inspecting and reporting on this home. Quality control and home readiness should have been completed prior to my arrival. I also located a hole in the wall upon check in. In which the company appeared to be clueless about. And again more pictures were requested. Over all I was not totally happy with my stay. I feel like we over paid and was not a good value.

Even so we are advertising our vacation rentals on FeWo-direkt and VRBO I must warn the general public when renting properties through the Expedia Group which includes VRBO and FeWo-direkt as they allowing Houzlet.com their business partner, well at least Houzlet is advertising that they are partners with VBRO, to commit fraud on their vacation rental website. The fraud is that Houzlet steals property pictures and content from other property owners to then advertise the properties on the Fewo-direkt / VRBO / Expedia sites at least that what they did with 2 of our properties in April of 2023. As a test and to make sure that this is not just a mistake I actually put an inquiry in to the host Houzlet for January 1st through April 15th, 2024, a rental period that was already rented through our agency for $ 9,000 a month.

Well Houzlet responded that the property is still available and I could rent it for $ 68,000 (for twice as much as we are rented the property already). When we approached the CEOs at VRBO / Expedia / Fewo-direkt no response, no apology, no comment, nothing! We actually had to push this matter further to get the fraudulent properties advertised through Houzlet removed from the Fewo / VRBO / Expedia sites. When I was digging deeper into this mess I had to learn that VRBO knew already in September of 2022 about this.

I actually found reviews from renters who booked vacation properties through Houzlet, then got a cancellation before arrival that the property is not available anymore and never got their money back. They tried through Houzlet and VRBO with no results, only with the response to contact their credit card company for a refund. Regardless we never got a response in this matter either so I had to push and present all the facts to the VRBO Escalation Team, which by the way is more like a stalling team than an escalation team.

At the end our owners had to prove to VRBO that they are actually the rightful owners, even so VRBO was already aware of the scam for at least 6 months. But the story doesn’t ends here, our client one of the legal property owner in the above case has been waiting for 2 months now to get the rent collected by FEWO/VRBO in the amount of $ 12,000+++ and the VRBO escalation team excuses themselves over and over that the money was send by their billing payment partner but the owner's bank is returning the money with commend account holder unknown. We checked with the owner's bank and on our end everything is correct.

Unfortunately, the Fewo-direkt / VRBO escalation team is refusing to email us a copy of the transaction so we can check if they sending the funds to the right account or have been sending the funds to someone else or not at all. Today I asked the VRMA, the Vacation Rental Management Association for support, but with Expedia as their gold sponsor, I was turned away. I guess that leaves me with taking it to hire justice.

I emailed the owner and he contacted VRBO to fix the nightly rate, but they ended up only giving me a credit on the total amount due. This does not cut it! VRBO needs to (and it knows it needs to) also credit me with the taxes it charged me on the wrong nightly rate. I spent loads of time trying to convince VRBO that my invoice was erred--what a frustrating experience--and have yet to see a refund. I reserved a $5k stay in Chicago by a host named Miles Tarzi ** on VRBO. He approved a rate for a 38 night stay for which I paid what he requested (as customers obviously can't dictate pricing, only the host can). He then proceeded to text me asking me to Zelle him (outside of vrbo) more money for the fees that vrbo charged him. I declined, and he called me saying to just cancel and he'd refund me then. So, I cancelled, and he slowly disappeared, refusing to refund me. VRBO support wouldn't help enforce a refund even though they agreed it was clear he is the bad actor here. This is fraud! This rodent is now able to continually list on vrbo for continued business. What a ridiculous way to run a platform!

The limited, very pricey location was now more limited and pricier. We were left to pay 2/3 more $ for a bed and bathroom at an inn, than the VRBO 7-10k sq ft house on a large property, each of the 3 K rooms had an ensuite. I booked a home that met all of my family and I’s needs for an upcoming vacation.. I reached out to the owner of the home to ask a question about check in and at that point he stated he was already booked through the app AIRBNB and canceled my reservation. He stated he didn’t even know he still had a house on the site for rentals or that I even rented the home. If I didn’t reach out I would have showed up and another family would have been occupying the home.

He refunded my money and here we are 35 days later I still have not received my money.. Any time I have reached out to VRBO they have stated they have refunded me and to have a nice day. After over a month of arguing with this horrid company I receive an email about an error that was holding up my money and yet I am still asked to wait another 7-10 days for a refund. No apology from anyone, no reach out from higher ups in the company to take accountability for keeping my money held up for over a month even after I sent my bank statements that proved that I did not recover a refund.

I will NEVER use this company again and will scream from the rooftops to make sure everyone hears me about how awful customer service and my experience was. From doing further research I see that this company is a 1 star company with thousands of reviews and that in itself should get this company shut down. I didn't know what to expect or how soon I was going to get pay so I contacted customer services which told me they will check what the problem was and would contact me later, which never did. After contacting them several times, they told me the problem was I haven't filled documents to pay taxes, and told me to go on the site to fill those documents. I got on the site but there is not way to find any document so I contacted them again.

After waiting for a few days again, I contacted customer services by phone and they told me they were sending the document to my email, which they did. The problem was I explained to them is the apartment is not mine but my father, who doesn't know how to use the platform and who is not a US citizen or who doesn't live in US territory. So I asked several times how do I filled the documents under my father's name if he is not a US citizen or US resident. Well, it's May 2023 and I'm still waiting for the answer.

The link they sent me has expired and any question I keep asking to customer service is not answer. I learned stairs illegal because they had no handrails on any of them There was a fan in bedroom that didn't work...temp during day about 84 degrees while cool in early morning could sleep because of heat. Many things advertised weren't true like DVD player not there, BBQ not there, Gazebo not there, Pool Table not there. We were so uncomfortable we left early...wrote to owner (supposedly). He didn't answer. BIGGEST COMPLAINT was VRBO says, "When you rent with us You get the whole house"..NOT TRUE...the owner lived downstairs in same building....

While my calls to VRBO complaint were recognized all I got was an apology from VRBO. I wanted a refund for reasons I stated....They didn't really care and although case escalated from Canada to USA...the USA outsourced their calls to very polite agent who couldn't do anything except put me on hold several times with kids screaming in background and dogs barking....then finally telling me, "Sorry cannot do anything. You must contact owner" which I did with no response....and because I didn't call up arrival to tell them all the things wrong...kinda doubt all that.... This company not who they say they are and advise all to find out their rights before hiring them. They are awful and really don't give a damn about their clients.

The phrase “caveat emptor” is Latin for “let the buyer beware.” How appropriate for dealing with VRBO.com! We booked a property through them, three months in advance; paid in full. Three days prior to arrival, the owner canceled, saying they booked for a better deal on another platform… I contacted Vrbo twice about this and never got a response. The property owner is defended and not punished in any way. By not responding or helping or taking action, Vrbo condones this type of behavior and that makes the traveler - the customer - vulnerable to underhanded, unethical and probably illegal actions by those they promote through their platform.

I had to find new accommodations three days before arrival. I had other options three months ago, not three days before! Prices at the last minute also skyrocketed and I’m out of pocket an additional $500 for the four days. Plus being inconvenienced in having to stay in two towns over the four days instead of the central location we selected, booked and paid for three months in advance. These policies are obviously acceptable by Vrbo.com. So, let the traveler beware… I’ll beware by never using this website again. I’ll stick to traditional hotels, where reservations mean something and there are people to help and support if issues arise.

It stated contactless check in, when we arrived the homeowner was there until 745pm. Incense was burning so we didn't notice the smell of dog urine right away. We noticed a fire alarm going off and the owner changed the battery then after he left 2 more alarms started chirping, so we changed the batteries. Next day he showed up and entered the house to do I don't know. The 3rd day in, my daughter was putting her clothes away and in the top drawer she found a used man's pleasure toy, she gagged.

Next we went to get dishes and they were all dirty put away, there was a oily film in the cupboard. Ants everywhere and traps not working, I had them crawling on me while sleeping. The owner came over unannounced 9 times during our 16 day stay. We called VRBO multiple times to complain and they literally did nothing. This place was inhabitable 100% and not worth 500 a day. We had a garage fire so we were in need of long term rental. The house has potential but the owner isn't willing to fix those things. I fear for the next renters.

Rented place and extended stay for another month a charged me for cancellation insurance, contacted them and told me to contact their third party insurance company, which I did within minutes of seeing charge, canceled and never got a refund, then contacted VRBO and spoke with Malou and was told refund was on its way, she had sent me email from her reassuring refund was on its way, that was 15 days ago no refund, called today and they told to contact their third party insurer again, to no avail no refund is coming, but they have their employees sending out bogus emails and lying to get you off phone,

Go with Airbnb a honest company, they take no responsibility for their actions and will never do business with them again, buyer beware they are scammers, having employees sending out bogus emails and lying about a refund and telling me she personally talked with insurance company in email is horrible, save yourself the headache and go with anyone else, you will thank me later.

I booked the rental of a home to accommodate 15 guests, the rental was paid in full 14 days in advance. I have receipts for all expenditures. I was advised by the host I would receive check-in information the day of arrival, I never received the information and was told I hadn’t paid the balance. For a number of months I’ve been contacting VRBO in regards to a refund, they consistently tell me they are working towards a resolution. I have given them copies of my receipts on numerous occasions.

I was forced to find alternate lodging for 15 guests last minute after driving to Columbus GA for an Army Basic Training graduation. Alvin ** aka Coach Cav is the host, I’ve made numerous attempts to make contact with him to no avail. I thought an officer in the US Army would have more integrity, I’m sorely mistaken. I would never recommend VRBO to anyone. They do not stand behind their claim of a money back guarantee. Keep a wide birth from this business as well as Alvin **.

As an Owner, I have often had questions for which I needed to speak to someone beyond the person who answers the helpline. This person while always polite never seems to know the answers. After struggling to answer you, they finally refer your case up the line and then you get another series of non answers before they refer you further up the line which then they tell you can take up to six weeks... Then you finally get a non answer. I have a missing tax for. How hard can it be to send me another...

I rented a property for a week in South Beach Miami through VRBO. The description (and the picture of the rental) indicated a dishwasher was included - there wasn't a dishwasher. There was a sign in the kitchen that said we couldn't expect the dishes to be adequately cleaned. I didn't feel like washing (all the) dishes on my vacation. We ate out every meal. Also the common front door of the apartment building was supposed to be secure. We were given a key to the front door. It was never/could not be locked.

When I complained about the lack of dishwasher, I was told that it wasn't a VRBO property but another landlord that advertised on the VRBO site. Somehow that means that VRBO is not responsible for what is shown on their website. It wasn't clear to me when looking at the property that they would not stand behind it. The landlord or the rental company is called Calisto Stays and they won't respond to any communications. So the rental company is missing in action and VRBO says they're the only people that can make the situation right. VRBO should disclose which properties are only advertised on their site and VRBO does not take any interest in.

Dania Beach Property # 891579. If I could give zero stars I would. VRBO charges unreasonable fees to “guarantee your satisfaction” and are “unable to help if owner doesn’t agree” regardless of photos, text messages and outright lies the owner told VRBO. The internet did not work, so the work from home as listed was impossible. We scrambled Saturday to book a flight home Sunday as we had to work Monday. 4 days of rental lost and plane fare home over $4,000.00. Owner will boast of 5 star reviews. As stated by multiple people. VRBO will not let you leave a negative feedback! That’s why there are so many 5 stars. Pool has disgusting film coating everyone and everything that enters. One shower/high tub is impossible to get in or bathe a baby. Neighborhood was terrible and sirens and police constantly. Neighbors yelling. So disappointed and out $4,000.00!

My personal recommendation If you find yourself in crisis due to VRBO stay - call 911 and file a police report with the local authorities and then work your way through different US Internet fraud protections like the attorney general, the FBI. File as many reports so that these guys are being documented in the different counties. They are ripping people off at to hold them accountable.
