I tried the 7 day trial for 95 cents and canceled the trial within the trial period. Received the email cancellation confirmation. I noticed the following 2 months they started telling billing me $9.85. I called today to find out why and I heard a lame excuse that they forgot to cancel the connection fee! No other explanation was provided; my take is they are scammers and trying to see if their billing is overlooked! I was told I will get my credit of $19.70 back within 30 days... Can't wait to confirm the credit!

The most important thing you guys could focus on improving is cell phone numbers. I searched many people including myself and the info you provide is 10-15 years old!! The only thing you provide that is current is a current address, other than that everything else is obsolete. Many of the records are incorrect names when searching phone numbers, which tells me the phone records are very outdated! This is the #1 thing people are searching for current cell phone numbers and reverse number lookup!

My experience was totally positive with respect to Spokeo, and any disappointment was attributable solely to individuals whose phone/address had changed. I believe SPOKEO probably has the widest possible range/coverage of names available to the public.

When I joined Spokeo.com, I was into genealogy. The availability of name and/or address search was wonderful. And the maps provided a look at locations that I could explore. The price was high but info useful. Then I got billed for court subscription, then name subscription, etc. Not worth the money...

My customer service experience was wonderful. The lady the took care of me did a great job. I wasn't on hold for too long, and she listen to me and genuinely cared about the reason for my call. It was a billing issue that she resolved right away.

I have only used your services about 4 times as a small business owner. You have helped me to collect one account. My observation is that you do not give all the info on the suspect all at once and one has to dig a bit too much. Your system is efficient. Check back in about 5 years.

I got the 1 time look up and don't want it charged on my credit card. The information couldn't have been more wrong. It wasn't even the right country, everything was wrong. I basically wanted to see if it could tell me the person's location if they moved the next town over. Even if it just gave me the name I wouldn't be writing a bad review but I know for a fact that all the information was wrong, nothing was right and I don't want to pay a penny for this service. I ended up getting enough of what I wanted for free.

In September 2016 I visited Spokeo.com and purchased what appeared to be a one-time phone number search for $1.95, but it turns out I was unwittingly wrangled into purchasing a monthly subscription. My bank account was debited at a rate of $19.95 for the months of October, November, December, and January.
Last week, I contacted their customer service to cancel this service and to request a refund. I will pay for a service if I willingly sign up for it. However, a check mark hidden somewhere on the sign up page is not consent as far as I am concerned. So 24 hours after sending an email to customer service I received a response stating that a refund for one month of service had been approved. And today I received a follow-up email stating that a refund will be issued in the amount of $9.98. Avoid this company!

I just went through my bank account information and found that Spokeo.com has been double charging me for months without my knowledge. I used their service one time and have not used it since. I contacted them and have not heard back from them yet.

I was looking for info on a possible scammer. Spokeo was able to locate the person through the email I provided for them, they claim to have 55 Photos and Videos through their search engine, but in order to obtain more information, I need to buy a prepaid bundle of 6 months service for $35.00. Well, there was only one phone number (that I already have) and one photo that was shown on the first search. So, basically, I got nothing for my money. When I contacted Spokeo for money back, their excuse is this is a prepaid bundle, and their policy is that prepaid deals are not refundable, but they offer to find more info for this person if I can tell them where he lives. I offer the person's date of birth, and his driver's license (if this would help). The response I got from them is Spokeo is closed down till the 3rd for maintenance. I, therefore, just resent my info, so I have yet to hear from them. They really have nothing to offer for the money. Do not use them.

I try to find some people in internet, I did with Spokeo, then I did a research. They said: find 60 people with this email. Need to be associate to have full date. I did. But when I make the research again they said: NO PEOPLE find. I think this is not fair. Because if they said no people find I will no be associate and pay.

I purchased the $1.95 plan just to locate a phone and it said the location of the phone was Bronx, NY which is incorrect, that was the area code of the phone number which I already knew but the actual location was PA. I found no advantage to this app. It was a waste of risking my card info.

I initially signed up for the free trial but DID NOT COMPLETE THE PAYMENT PROCESS, as I'm from outside the US and they won't let you view the results of your searches if you're international. However the company STILL KEPT ON CHARGING ME and it has continued to do so for the last two months. I've lost a combined total of £51.56 ($63 USD). While they cancelled the recurring payment they fobbed me off refunding me with the excuse "the payment has already been processed". No. I did not manage to get the searches I wanted. I was charged for a service I did not use. They didn't try to refund me. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE, THEY ARE COMPLETE SCAMMERS.

Apparently I signed up for Spokeo but didn't realize I was being charged a monthly fee for the last two years. When I explained to your customer service department what had happened, they were kind enough to reimburse me for the time I didn't use the service and I had been charged. Spokeo is a ripoff. My card got charged 3 charges totaling $50.00 which I had not approved. I was only supposed to be charged the bare minimum option which was for less than a dollar. Not only did my card get charged unexpectedly but it resulted in an overdraft fee. Customer service was not concerned about the issue and it is disturbing that my card was charged for things I did not sign up for. I will never use Spokeo and my recommendations is that you can get just the same results from Google search and it is free. Spokeo makes their money by tricking consumers and their lack of customer service ensures I will never use their service again.

I'm trying to find out who called me. When I enter in the phone number the free part of the search on Spokeo reveals they have found the caller's name and information. I pay the $1.95 and move to the next screen only for Spokeo to reveal it has found nothing. No name, no address, no relatives, no social profiles, no personal details. Only tells me it's a landline in Plano TX which many other search engines had already revealed that info to me for free. If the system could not find any info it should not have indicated that it found it on the previous page. Don't waste your money!

Signed up for the 7 day trial period. It's limited so I ran out of searches quickly. I searched three cell numbers and each one shows the same location... why? Makes no sense, and there's no names listed on all three cell numbers. Two of these are personal numbers so I KNOW THAT THE INFO IS WRONG. What's the point if it's not accurate? Thought that was the reason for using this website. Just really disappointed that I didn't find what I was looking for since the number was listed within their website.

I had a few serious concerns. I was billed $19.95 for a service I did not order. I called their line and initially the nice lady was able to tell me she refunded my money. But that was not my only issue - because of this unwanted charge, it overdrew my bills account. And my bank then of course charged a severe overdraft fee. I then called the same number back. This is at about 6pm eastern time. Surprisingly again and again I got their voicemail saying to call during business hours, and then immediately after saying business hours are they are open 24hrs mon-fri. This is a Wednesday mind you.
This is what led to me using their internet "chat." I used it once yesterday and after some finagling and having to speak to supervisor, I was able to talk to the supervisor Brady whom did help answer a few questions. We left off with me needing to get back in contact with them the next day. Here is where it really went wrong. I do remember talking to first an Xavier, who did help at first but when I came back with a different question a little while later. He jumped on the chat for a minute but then abruptly stopped chatting with me and this random lady got on the chat.
She was so unbelievably rude I don't understand how she could be employed in customer care. She immediately jumped on in the middle of a conversation and before I even was able to ask my question. She started very rudely and without warning, spewed anger towards me telling me the same thing again I had already figured out. She first said, without introducing herself at all that she was "aware" of my issue and without being asked and thinking she knew somehow my question repeated earlier things I already had answered. She was not a manager. Who in the world was she? She never once let me ask the actual question I came back for. She "assumed" she knew my question and was wrong - but just very rude on top of that.
Next I told her to let me speak with her manager, and Rachel came on and did the exact same thing. Did not even ask my question. I was just really taken aback by this coming from CS myself. Finally for some reason she again transferred me but without my asking - and I was back talking to the first supervisor who thankfully allowed me to speak and answered my question. I will tell everybody I know never, ever to use them or at least be cautious, and to beware about those charges. I'm so over this. They said they "processed" my refund and I still don't have it back.

Tried to open an account, entered my credit card and other info but it just kept processing. Called the toll free number to be disconnected multiple times. Once I actually got to speak with a live person and when I mentioned I tried to set up an account, was disconnected. If it's this much trouble to call them and being hung up on, I don't want the service. I will be calling the credit card company to see if they charged my account.

This is a total rip off. Do not buy!! The entire time it was running the phone number for a reverse search. It said it found the contract info, such name, address, etc. Once I paid the fee the results then changed and said NO RESULTS FOUND. RIP OFF. Not only did I get ripped off by the guy whose number I was researching but by this company as well! Beware... Total waste of money.

On 11/8, a Customer Satisfaction Specialist name Javier called and inquired to feedback regarding prior service that was cancelled. I was then offered a free 30 day subscription to full service look up and would be cancelled automatically - no need to call back. Today I entered a search and was charged a fee. I called your hotline and explain what happen. I was told I was charge $15.00 for a 90 days. I cancelled your service and required that any charges be refunded. This what not what was offered by your rep Javier.

I've been searching for a friend that has migrated due to work purposes. The website gave details on the information that will be provided including name, address, phone number etc and prompt for payment before disclosing the information. Yet after the payment, only the name field wasn't empty. It's very misleading and for those who aren't tech savvy and hate to read, will get sidetracked into subscriptions. BE CAREFUL.

I've used Spokeo occasionally over the past few years. More recently I discovered my husband was unfaithful and using dating websites. I found this out on our own home PC. I conducted a search on Spokeo by entering my partner's email and selected the "cheating partner" reason for using service. Now, he's getting emails from Spokeo marketing their services and using 'Do you have a cheating partner?' in the subject line. I emailed them asking if they've used the details I've entered to keep for marketing services or is it a just a strange coincidence? To date I have not had a response. He has admitted all and we are working on our marriage. If he was to use the service, he wouldn't find anything new on me. But, he stands a chance in regaining my trust. I'm not sure I can trust Spokeo to be as confidential as it claims. Until I get a actual response from them, I'm inclined to believe otherwise. Have any other reviewers had this experience?

I like and enjoy the service, but I cannot afford to use the service as I use it too little to make it worth what I would have to pay. If you had a smaller package that allowed a smaller number of lookups that would work for me. In the meantime, thank you for the service that I did enjoy.

I am almost finished with finding phone numbers and email address for the members of the American Legion Post 12 in Tyler Texas. I wanted to find out if a person had a criminal past, so I paid but I did not get what I was looking for. For that you wanted more money. It is a little misleading because I think I was getting all the information and I only get partial information. I have to say though, your customer service was great! I received a call from Benjamin, and he couldn't have been nicer! Today customer service is not very good, but you all did a great job.

On Apr 5th I was trying to search a scam seller who took my money but never shipped the product. So I used Spokeo's $0.95 7-day free trial. Too upset about the scam, I didn't read the long I understand..." and just checked the box to continue. Guess what? 6 months later when I finally check my credit card statement thoroughly, I see the recurring fee of $19.95 for six months. On top of that, there is also a recurring $9.85 fee which is their social media aggravate fee. Apparently they offered a 30-day free trial of that service and I selected it as well.
Well my experience just proved that nothing comes free. When everything adds up to $179.75, only the initial $0.95 I was aware of. No email receipts or subscription renewal confirmation or anything whatsoever, the only email I ever received from Spokeo was for the $0.95 trial. So I emailed the customer service first, asking for the refund, I was refunded only $9.85 for the LAST month. RIDICULOUS! So I had to call in for more. The rep refunded me all the $9.85 payments which adds up to about $50. And after supervisor's review, I was able to get full refund for 3 months, as she claimed that the system can only date back 90 days. So in total I'm getting $118 out of the $178.80 I was unaware of.
While I am happy about getting more than half of the money back, I still don't think I should pay $60 for something I never used. The rep may be right when she repeatedly emphasizes that the website warned me, and I was responsible to opt out the free trial if I don't want to pay for the subscription fee. But I think it is also the website's responsibility to send out confirmation or receipt for subscriptions, unless that's what they intend to, so people will be paying for something they are completely unaware of.

I signed up for the 7 day free trial. I called in to cancel a few days later. I was told that they couldn't see that I ever signed up so I forgot about it. The following month I get charged for $9.85 and $19.95??? Even if I had signed up it was supposed to be $9.85 and not $19.95. They would only refund me a partial payment.

11 months ago, I wanted to do one Spokeo search, so I chose the "Casual Users 1 month Membership" for $13.95. At the bottom of the billing info form there's a checkbox with a long paragraph of legalese -- image posted herewith -- beginning with "I agree" to the terms of use, etc., etc., with this about 60% of the way through: "I understand that I will be billed $13.95 today and every month thereafter until this subscription is cancelled." I didn't notice that. "11 months" you say?
Yes, you're right -- I did overlook the monthly charges on my credit card statement for a long time. I use only one card primarily, and I use it for just about all my expenses online and off, so I have a long statement. Yes, I should be more vigilant. But on the other hand, what a sneaky way to fool people into signing up for an automatic monthly credit card charge! Notice how the big print says "1 month membership" rather than "Monthly membership". How does this speak to their integrity? Does it make Spokeo seem like a business you want to transact with?

I signed up for the free trial and after searching the names I wanted I realized that I found more in my own searches. But what was really annoying was that they make it sound like you get everything with the free trial - you don't!! You have to pay for even reverse email searches. What a waste of money, not a lot of money but still! Highly disappointed.

I paid $1.95 for a ONE-TIME search and got tricked into signing up for a monthly service at $19.95. I'm not as diligent as I should be at checking my credit card statements, and have over $100 worth of monthly charges for a service I didn't intentionally sign up for and NEVER USED. Called customer service and was able to cancel, but wouldn't refund any of the monthly service fees even though they could SEE I didn't use it. Very shady, in my opinion.

About 2 years ago I did a one time search for what I believe was $00.95. I failed to read the fine print which stated I would be charged a monthly fee after a three-month trial period. Well the three month trial period came and went. When Spokeo did not hear from me to cancel my account. They assumed I was continuing on. About a year and a half went by and I finally checked my bank statements to find this re-occurring charge for $17.90. I called them immediately! I was loaded for bear! They were more than easy to work with. They apologized for the mistake, and refunded my money promptly (like the next day) they gave me a 3-month subscription to their website free!
After consulting my attorney on the matter, I was told that I was lucky to be getting anything refunded. As the fault was mine. I would DEFINITELY recommend this service. If this is how they operate. I'd say you are in good hands! I'll let yah know after using my 3 month trial... Thank you Spokeo! A very satisfied customer.

Spokeo is a good website in a sense for finding out some basic information about people if you have an email address or a phone number. Personally I don't think this type of thing "should" exist because... well, stalkers. And it is technically stalking. But anyway, I go on this site from time to time to look people up if I have doubts about them or when I wonder if they are who they say they are. Anyways, I signed up for their "trial offer" and I thought it was for 30 days. Turns out it was for 7 days and they charged us after that 7 days was up. But I am about 90% sure it said 30 day trial. Now when I go back on the site looking for the same "deal" it's all changed around and different.
I feel like I just got robbed and this company is shady. The original price was $.95 for the first month, or so. I am pretty positive I read. But the company said it was only for 7 days. Could be a mistake I made, but now I can't even go back to double check if I was wrong or not because that same "deal" is not up. Like a bait and switch really. Oh well. There goes $20. I just wanted to look up one person. Also it says "If you are dissatisfied with our product, please contact our Customer Care team". I did and they were not helpful. How can they prove it was only 7 days? It's just bogus. But anyway, life happens. Probably won't use this company ever again.

My brother died suddenly while in Florida. I live in L A. I had to reach his ex wife and son, and I did not know her current last (remarried) name. I knew her maiden name and found her brother through Spokeo, and everything worked out. I used the $1, one month trial. Signed up for the one time use $0.95 search with the advertised 7-day free trial and 1-month court search which was very boldly and deliberately advertised as only $2.95 a month in good faith that these would be the actual prices. Both of these subscriptions have hidden fees as high as $20 each conveniently hidden away from the advertised price point. I cannot name one other online service that would hide away additional fees so deliberately. I'm disappointed to say the least. Buyer Beware.

I was hesitant to use Spokeo to begin with, but after having a lady give out my phone number for the past 4 months, I was desperate to contact her. I decided to pay the $0.95 for a phone record. As I was giving my information, an ad popped up for a membership. I declined it. Thinking that I had already declined a membership, I never have it a second thought. Now a week later, I've been charged an additional $19.95 for a membership. I emailed them, they won't refund it. On top of having to deal with this lady giving out my number, I am now out $20+. Highly frustrated. Thank you for making this nightmare worse. I don't recommend anyone using this service.

I found the site easy to use and it was accurate with names and addresses (although many addresses were listed for same time period). Not satisfied with phone #s or emails as almost everyone that I checked was many years old and no longer in service thus not allowing the reason for the search which was to get in contact with old friends. So it was ok but not worth the money as information is very old.

I thought I was only going to be paying $0.95 for a telephone search. Nowhere did it say I was subscribing for a monthly account. I was completely led to believe I was paying for a 1x charge of $0.95. Otherwise I would have never did this search. I feel that this company is very shady in their practices. No refund, I am upset. 1 search cost me over $27 Canadian!!! (I'm in the wrong business.) The CSR said it was a legitimate charge. I strongly disagree. I should get a full refund. Twice I have paid for one-time usage, and both times were terrible. The first time (a few years ago), I submitted payment, but the final transaction to receive information I paid for never happened. I immediately sent an online message to Spokeo about this, but never heard a word back. Since it was a small fee at the time, I did not take any further action. Now a few years later, I tried again, this time paying $9.95 for a one-time use. So I did get a result, but I soon discovered that several things were incorrect, especially phone numbers. I sent a message to Spokeo, not asking for a refund, but stating that I will never use their service again. They responded by saying that they provide results with the most recent data that they have access to. What a waste of time and money for me. I do not recommend this service, as you are taking a big risk that you'll ever get the information you want.

Signed up for one time use at .95 cents and without my knowledge was charged $19.95 per month for 16 months. Talked with a very nice rep named Maria, who was able to refund 12 months worth of charges. While I am thankful to receive it, I believe that ALL of the monies they withdrew from my account should have been refunded. Please be aware if you sign up for the 95 cent special, you will need to physically put a stop to the account or they will continue to take monthly payments.

For example, to research "Parkinson's Grants" etc. I noticed one thing. Some of the information is incorrect. Overall this is a very good site! Rip-off company. When you subscribe for services they make it very unclear what you are signing up for. You think you're signing up for multiple services and you're only signing up for one. When you do a search before signing up, it shows that you have hundreds of results, when you pay and do the same search no results come up. Then, when you try to cancel less than 24 hours after subscribing, they tell you you don't do refunds. They are a fraudulent company and should be put out of business. I had to call and ask for a supervisor and they finally said they would refund me. Let's see if it really happens.

I recently did a free background search and obtained the basic information, photo and state. I then purchased for 29.95 subscription for more information. At this time I was doing a historical search and it stated I had to subscribe for additional fees. I should not have to purchase additional information when it should have been included in the 29.95. The background check that is provided for this amount does not included anything except phone number, picture, and location. What's the point in purchasing your product if one cannot receive the "background" information without having to pay more fees! I'm very disappointed and I'm out 29.95, for nothing! Thanks! I will not be using your service ever again!

I called them about trying to cancel my free trial and the site was having problems. He said there are more ways to cancel. Well I'm not exactly a brainiac when it comes to doing that and he would absolutely not hear a word I had to say. He was very rude. I don't think it's fair to not refund my money when the email they sent me stated they were having problems with the site. I did not use the site one time after I tried to cancel my trial. If I was out to screw them out of the whole $19.95 I would of kept using it. I don't mind about the money. It was the rudeness of the customer service rep.

I see by the reviews here I am not alone in getting tricked by Spokeo into signing up for a monthly charge when I didn't want one. In my case I signed up for a monthly charge - once - to locate a lost relative. It took many tries and a few days. While I had the account I made a couple of other searches for friends. I then cancelled the service when I was finished. I have the cancellation email. I thought nothing of it until I happened to notice on a current credit card bill that Spokeo has been charging me for 7 months -- after I had cancelled. Spokeo customer service asserts I had two accounts. One of them has an email address that is not mine, although it is close, but both were tied to the same credit card. Although Spokeo can certainly verify I did not use the service at all after canceling 7 months ago -- Spokeo so far has figured that is my problem that I didn't know they somehow had two accounts for me and only cancelled one.
It's funny - when I first starting using the Spokeo website, I could tell that it was trying to trick me. It offers an inexpensive one-time search, but it repeatedly tries to get you to make the account monthly and repeating until you cancel it. Honestly -- that is lousy business. I did my best to pay for what I needed but I didn't need months and months of access. I'm happy to pay for services - so why try to trick me and then let me get ripped off when I don't notice it? Bottom Line: Don't use Spokeo until they reform their business practices. And on the other services, be really careful, and check your bills to be sure.

I found charges on my credit card that have been recurring for more than a year for services and subscriptions for which I did not subscribe. Completed online search and found many, many similar complaints about the exact same consumer complaints. Called Spokeo upon discovering the charges. They agreed to refund a portion of the charges. All of the charges should be refunded. I did not subscribe to their service. When I requested evidence that I subscribed I received a very generic email. When I asked for proof of activity on the account they advised they could not provide any for privacy concerns. BEWARE of charges on your credit card from Spokeo!!!

Found this website on the Internet trying to ID a name or company with the phone number. No help. I called them and they told me it was probably a business in another country. The lady was very polite. I asked that a credit be issued back to my credit card which was charged. That did not happen. Would I ever use them again? NO.

Although I did not need the coverage I accidentally purchased and then was signed up for an additional package, amongst my panic and anger, the rep I spoke to calmly asked for my information and within a day my return was back on my account. He explained my mistake and was extremely helpful. Spokeo never emailed me spam or other notices like many other companies do so I revisited and actually used their site again.

I paid for a one-time search 4 months ago and JUST found out that I have been being billed $19.95 every month since (totaling almost $60!) I have never gotten any emails about these charges whatsoever, so therefore how could I have known Spokeo was charging me and that I should have cancelled my account?! I ordered a one-time-only address, which was said to cost less than a dollar. Spokeo has claimed over $60 on my credit card. I called with my concerns and was told on May 8 the best that could be done was refund $9.86. I received my credit card bill on June 10, but no Spokeo credit was shown. All I wanted from this company was the name of the person that was trying to scam me through PayPal. They advertise the reverse phone lookup as free but it is not. It actually costs $1.95 so I went ahead and decided to give it a try. As I was trying to pay for the service, the process almost tricked me into signing up for a monthly fee. Good thing I actually read the fine print and I finally figured out how to pay for a one time reverse phone lookup (that was supposed to be free) without falling into the trap of being locked into a monthly fee.
What I finally received for my $1.95 was nothing more than an address, and this is where it gets really upsetting. I had been texting back and forth with this scammer. I have not heard of a texting landline but apparently, according to Spokeo, they exist. No name of the person the number was linked to, or any accurate or pertinent information for that matter was received from Spokeo. I have contacted their customer service and am currently awaiting their response.

I used this website for a one-time phone number search. It clearly said it was a one-time fee of 0.95 cents and I made sure to uncheck every box. On May 25 I was charge the amount of $19.95 for a subscription I never signed for. I called and they will only refund $9.98 which I consider very unfair. This is a company that cannot be trusted since it's making money by ripping us off. I will definitely make sure to warn as many people as I can. Stay away!!!

I thought I was agreeing to pay .95 for one search. When going through the payment options I am sure I unchecked any subscription sign up boxes. I did not receive an email saying that I had signed up for a free one-week trial and did not receive an email stating I would be billed $19.95. I searched my archives and spam folder and did not find anything from Spokeo, but oddly enough when I canceled the subscription an email appeared. I called to ask that the charge be removed as I had only performed a search on the initial day I spent .95. They only agreed to refund $10. I think a full refund is appropriate as did not perform any further searches and was not aware I had agreed to a subscription since I never received any emails stating such. Be careful when using this service, as it is not obvious what you are going to pay.

The product was good. It help me locate several alumni from high school. What I didn't like it not knowing how much money I was putting in and that I was being charged a monthly flat rate of $150 and not being reimbursed when I stopped using it. It should be 1,000 purchases or address locations and then ask if you want to do another hundred or a thousand searches instead of giving you a flat rate. I'm not a business. I'm a person who had to Fork over my own money because there was no money in the alumni fund.

Twice with one success, they compromised my account and l called them for my d--m refund and told me that I would receive the funds back into my account within 5 days, and I have not received a refund yet. It's been 2 freaking weeks. They will be getting a call once again from me. Investigate these companies before using them for services, and in my case investigate how they got into your account without your permission.

I acknowledge that I have myself to blame for letting this company fleece me for almost a EIGHT HUNDRED DOLLARS before I caught them! I'm writing this review in hopes of helping others avoid my mistake and, at the same time, helping others avoid this company and ones who use this same billing practice. Three YEARS ago I went looking for an old high school friend. I worked my way through Spokeo's FREE sample search. Near the end I realized they had asked me for my credit card, personal information and with that information the service was not, indeed, "free." I left the website immediately. As far as I can remember, I didn't use the results of the search I had been making. I just closed the web page. I find out now that I had inadvertently signed up for a 7-day free trial and that the "trial" was converted into a "full subscription" until I cancelled it. I would be charged (currently, at least) $19.95 per MONTH!
I just spotted the charge on my credit card. I called the cc company to report the fraud, then called Spokeo to protest the fraud. They answered quickly and said, "No problem." I caught the idea that this wasn't the first charge on my credit card ("Is the card still, #**?"). I asked how long they had been billing me and the guy said, "Since March, 2013." It is now April, 2016! I assume it was my fault...I haven't looked back at my older bills to see if they somehow camouflaged their "service," but I should have spotted the charge. Nevertheless, this "service" is designed to sneak a charge onto your credit card and it's designed to keep charging you until you catch it. The representative agreed to refund one year of the charges. "That's all I am authorized to return." Which is language for, "We stuck you for $480 dollars! And it's our policy to refuse to give it back."
I strongly believe that this practice should be outlawed. Spokeo did not send me a notice saying they were going to charge my credit card in perpetuity until I told them to stop. They never once sent me a bill or a notice or a query. This billing device is devised to be deceptive. My only defense in the future is never, never to allow this kind of billing again. I can never allow any sort of automatic Bill Pay from a credit card or (heaven forbid!) a bank account. Comcast, when I visit their office, gives me "3 months FREE HBO," for example. And now when I look on that bill I find a couple $8/month charges for "service" that I don't use.
The eagerness with which the representative gives me the free trials helps me understand that they are exercising the same scheme. No service should automatically "roll over" into perpetual, unmentioned billing items or credit card charges. There should at least be a secondary enrollment form (a letter, for instance) and an "OPT IN" agreement by the potential fleece-ee. It would be interesting to hear how much money Spokeo takes in per year vs. how many actual searches they consummate. Wouldn't it?

I called Customer Service for a refund and cancellation after not finding what I was looking for and they let me know that they canceled the subscription but they talked so fast I didn't catch the part where they mentioned the charge of $19.95 would stand as is after Customer Service can see that there has been NO activity since the initial search. I called again to speak with someone new and this young fast-talked me as well. It must be what they are taught to do to get over on customers. That is a shame.

Information is fairly up-to-date. If you have plenty of uses for it, it is worth the cost. I don't care for the links to other fee-based search services at the bottom of the page. If you need that type of information, you probably already use them. I have used Spokeo to locate missing classmates for my high school reunions - I have assisted with classes other than my own.

The site was confusing, and instead of getting a 30-day free trial, I was immediately charged for the type of search I was doing, and for another search I thought was included in the free trial/base price. I did a people search for one person. I don't remember exactly what the wording was on the website but I certainly did not see that there would be a $19.95 charge for a premium membership and never would have agreed to it. My credit card company informed me of a $14.85 fee charged to me every three months from Spokeo. I used them once last year and had no idea that I was being charged a recurring membership. I NEVER knowingly subscribed to Spokeo for a recurring membership. Their website makes it near impossible to remove your credit card information or to cancel your account. I have yet to figure that out. What they do might be legal, but it is bad business and it stinks.

I signed up to try the site out back in September 2012. Immediately after signing up I cancelled the membership so I would not be billed. I used my credit card and since I generally pay little attention to the statement unless it is blatantly obvious, the $14.95 monthly charges continued on my account for 3 years. I called Spokeo and spoke with Kiara. I asked several questions about how this came to be. She was quick to provide me with a refund for 1 year but was not willing to go beyond that stating that her system would not allow her. I also asked for her to confirm if her records showed my cancellation back in September 2012 and she stated yes, but the membership and Privacy Armour are not the same. Not once did I receive an email or letter welcoming me as a new Privacy Armour member, nor do I know what the service is for.
I even accessed the account and it stated my current billing cycle was $14.85 every 3 months which doesn't even match the erroneous monthly $14.95 charge. This site uses deceptive practices to steal money from its consumers. If there has not been a legal action lawsuit for this, there should be. I want a full refund as I did what I should have done and immediately cancelled the subscription to try out the service for the introductory rate and time.

You pay for the membership fee of whatever, $14.95 and you're given about as basic info as you'd get from a google search. Then to find out anything else, it's a whole host of other fees tacked on. Wanna see social media? Another 5.95. Oh want to see court records? Another 9.95. Oh how about marriage certificates. That'll be another 4.95. By the time you have all the info you want you've spent $200 and I'm sure the info you get out of that is worthless too. Awful. Awful. Awful. I'll never fall for one of these stupid scam sites again. ** you Spokeo.com.

They put in bold 4.95/month for a trial. OK, it would be nice to try it for 15 min for free, but so be it. Then you click, fill out the info and you're billed a minimum of $29.70 for 6 months (which, yes, works out to 4.95 month). What a sleazy approach. To cap it off, absolutely nothing on the email address I searched for, except that it was used on a music site and it shows the music listened to. Cancelled with 2 min and contested the charge.

I used Spokeo last year to track down several people who collected my work years ago. I was able to get some accurate information from them and was generally happy with the service. I then tried to cancel the service, and have been told several times by the Spokeo customer service that my account was terminated. I thought I was finally in the clear, but just found that they've continued to bill me approx. $20 monthly -- hundreds of dollars down the drain! To boot, the customer service agent told me my account was already terminated and was very condescending. I suppose I'll have to keep calling, but the whole enterprise is a suction for money and time -- from an organization that purports to be a facilitator.

Not happy at all with this company. I used it as a one-time service back in November. Was never told that there was a 7-day trial and then would be charged 19.99 a month... I called and cancelled today as I just realized I had been being charged this fee. Was told I could not receive a refund!! This is fraud and deceit. I am going to dispute these charges with my bank.

I have been billed for a membership I was not aware of for over a year. Charges total over $330.00! I submitted a dispute for fraudulent charges via my credit card company and was going to dispute the issue directly with Spokeo, however, I learned it was not necessary. It is definitely the most simple way to deal with companies such as Spokeo that take advantage of consumers. They should be put out of business!

They said that they find out the name, address and some other things and ask me to pay $1 for the full report. I did, but it only has address. Then I test my number to see if this ** works. It is not! I am sure I looked my number, and I checked more than 3 times. It is not me! Different cities, different names. This company is a faker and liar! WHAT A JOKE!!! I signed up for a special "3 months for $9.95 membership". When I got the receipt I discovered that they had charged me $59.70. First of all, the only info I was given was birth month, year, zodiac sign and ethnicity. All of which is useless and already known. When I clicked the "full report" tab they wanted me to pay more money to see it. I then called customer service and they refused to refund my money even though I didn't get what was advertised. After arguing with them and asking for a supervisor they finally said they would refund $44.78. That means they still charged me $14.92 when it was only supposed to be $9.95 for the entire membership. What a scam!

I also agree with other reviewers. I got suckered by their "trial offer" a one time.95 cent charge to do a search, so I did. Little did I know that in doing so I was signing up for a subscription whereby Spokeo withdrew $19.95 per month from my bank account. I was never notified of these withdrawals. I was never sent any emails from the company. If I had, I would have cancelled but this is what they prey on. I caught it on my first monthly statement. If I had not looked at my bank statement the other day it would have continued. I called the Company and talked to a "Customer Service" Rep. who told me that they would cancel my service but the $19.95 charge would not be removed. Is this the future of Internet businesses? This is just another crooked company and another reason to not trust these types of services.

My wife - helping an overseas visitor find a friend - signed up for a 1-month membership only to find 10 months later it has cost over $150. I have requested a refund - will see how it goes. If they were more honest on their signup page, they would say "Month by Month". I am sure the fine print says some place they keep billing. But if they have any integrity and real value, they should not have to deceive customers to get their business. Very disappointed. No order number. Just online subscription. Unclear terms of use and horrible customer service! Signed up to look one thing up and was told it would be least $5. They charged me $30 and when I called to have it fixed they would only credit me back $15. They are crooks and I am reporting them to the BBB if they do not credit me my money back.

Well... it did not go well. Re-signed up, somehow got later upgraded without my intentional act or request. Called to get it reversed, only to wind up with two $80 plus upgrade charges show up on my bank account that I never asked for. Finally had to have my Bank resolve Spokeo's outrageous conduct. That is as honest and fair as I can be. It was a horrific, time consuming experience. The 2 unauthorized bank hits hurt badly.

I noticed this charge on my credit card after I started back online after an extended absence and actually had my internet down during a great deal of the period. I was charged for "services". When I called, I provided the last four digits of the credit card number. They had three separate accounts with email addresses I have never heard of. I was told to call back with my BANK to have the charges removed. I am filing a police report and also going to the FTC and the State Consumer Protection Division. The stories I read on this site are identical to mine - NUMEROUS charges on several accounts under one card. Come on. I intend to pursue this, even to the point of a class action suit. I find this very concerning, especially since they would not give out any information as to what was searched, by what registered name, and which email addresses.
It is times like this that I am glad I am an attorney. I caution anyone considering doing business with these people that when you call to cancel they will tell you "to call back with your bank". My state is a one party consent state so I can prove everything that they tried to force upon me. If they had proven one thing, I would feel differently. The fact that they went out of their way NOT to cooperate and assist me, and told me to call back MONDAY was a joke. This is not a solicitation for clients (I have to say that) but if warranted after reviewing the facts and circumstances, I will file.
I gave them plenty of opportunity to prove ONE piece of info. Didn't happen. I have been down this road before and it is stressful. Don't try to sign up with them because even when you contact them and do everything they want, they refuse to cancel. Total abuse of credit card policies as well. (I was going to just cancel, now I want all fraudulent charges reimbursed after seeing what they put people through).

I signed up to use Spokeo for one time use for 95 cents. I was billed for the 95 cents on 1/14/16 and the service was not even helpful. I then looked at my credit card bill today and found that I was billed on 1/24/15 for 19.95. I called to let them know that I had not ever requested any further service other than the one-time billing. I was told that since my account was charged on 1/24/16 and today is the 27th I could not have a refund. Shawn, the customer representative indicated he could cancel any further charges but could not refund the amount already billed. I asked why wouldn't they have sent any emails to me about this purchase as any other company would do, welcoming me to their site etc. He said all the needed information was there when I signed up. What a company. If I had signed up there would have been no welcome email follow-up. This company is bogus. What a sham. That is all I can say.

Signed up and paid 0.98 for a onetime search. Was 'signed up' for a free 7 day trial. Forgot the deadline date, was charged the 19.95 for a month. Called Spokeo the day after I discovered the charge. First rep did NOT want to give a refund. Told me "it could not be reversed, just enjoy the one month then you can cancel." Hung up. Called again, got the second customer rep. I explained what happened, told I could NOT be refunded the full amount, got a half refund... Bad, bad Spokeo, you should be more concerned to have happy people doing business with you rather than getting as much money out of them. It is more important to have Very Good reputation than squeegeeing a few bucks... NOT a happy experience for me!

I used Spokeo to look up a phone number and paid the one time fee. After looking at my bank statement, I saw a charge for a subscription to Spokeo that I did not authorize. I also, noticed that an additional monthly charge was charged to my card today. After using Spokeo for the first and only time, I paid for information I already had and I did not use them again. After noticing a recurring charge, I cancelled my "subscription" and contacted Customer Care immediately. I spoke with Customer Care Agent "Robert". He indicated that after the one time fee, if I did not contact customer care within 7 days it was "implied" that I consented to a subscription. I received no notification that I was enrolled in a subscription. I asked "Robert" for a refund of the unauthorized monies and he told me "No".
I have never experienced being enrolled in any subscription without some kind of consent from the consumer. I have never been told that after paying for a one-time use, that I would automatically be enrolled in a subscription I never used after the one time. This company preys on the hard earned money of people trying to protect their families. I will never recommend this organization to anyone.

The initial required membership only lets you search for people. Once they have found that person, it takes you to another place to sign up and yes, pay for another subscription to another worthless service. I actually fell for that and once it actually got to the report, I came to another prompt to purchase access to that report. Don't get sucked in thinking you're actually going to find something you're looking for. I feel like they prey on people who are vulnerable and have a reason to look closer at someone. After you go through 2 different subscriptions, it's really easy to feel like the third now will be that winner. I didn't stick around long enough to find out. I'm out $20 and learned a lesson. Hopefully, this will help someone to not have to throw their money away like I did.

Their customer service rep was very helpful and she even tried to locate the results on the person I was looking for and she told me that I could continue to check that number at no charge for the rest of my life. Was not happy with the experience. I joined to locate two friends that I was in the military with. Located the address from one and when I tried to locate the other I was denied access because I had used too much time. Thus, months later I was charged for another 6 months, without my knowledge, as I noticed it on my credit card bill. I called and had difficulty in getting my money back from the later charges. Spokeo does not give correct information. It was giving me names and addresses for phone numbers that I knew were not correct. It is extremely expensive and does not do what it claims that it can do. They don't refund either. I don't recommend.

When I tried to get a refund I was told that what I had purchased would not be refunded. The website is very confusing.

They charged my account even though I closed out my membership the same day I started it. I didn't find the info I needed and the customer service was so awful. They did not want to return my money even though they could see when the account was closed and kept only offering me five dollars until I flipped out (which didn't take long). Needless to say I will never be using their services again in my life.

I am a Real Estate Agent and I thought that I could get good info, good email address and phone #s. I planned on using it every day. But I never get the correct info. And when I try looking up another name on the list it counts as a look up. So I use it as a last resort and still do not get my info.

Tons of information available. Due to the nature of people moving and privacy settings, the information is not always accurate, no fault of Spokeo. Customer service has been prompt and helpful. I recommend this service.

I was not aware that it only was applied to the people in the United States!! And then when I tried to look up someone in the United States it kept taking me back to where you are having to fill in your name and you would be charged all over again even though I had paid for a month's dues already!! Very confusing to me. I had needed to check on two Scammers from Accra, Ghana!! Could not as you only do U.S.!!

I thought I had insurance that would replace my stolen phone!! But only to repair broken phones. I did not want to hear that!!! So sad.
