Don’t use this. Spokeo is a scam. I tried to look up a phone number and they didn’t had any information for that number. Then I forgot to cancel the subscription they charged me $29. So expensive. I called right away to cancel it and for my refund. They are so broke that they only refund me $11. When I canceled it same day. Please don’t use this… is a SCAM!!!

Bait and Switch! Non helpful customer service and deceptive website. They operate in a very scam-like way. I paid for the .95 cent 7 day trial and then noticed right away that I was also charged for a $19.95 apparently for a report that was not included with the trial. I immediately reached out to them via phone to request a refund since it was something that I did not want and did not access.

Unfortunately, while using this one time didn't seem harmful, I noticed that they did not provide a way for you to easily cancel the subscription before beginning monthly charges. No transparency at all. Then, when I called to request a refund, they didn't give me a full refund. I do not recommend them - It's not worth it.

Watch for FIRST TIME TRIAL for .95 CENTS! I found the person I was looking for and thought great price for one-time usage. Didn't see the first time trial for .95 cents. I bought it for .95 cents. Then, 8 days later, they charged me 29.95. READ and DOUBLE CHECK SITES LIKE THIS ONE! They shouldn't be allowed to do the first time trial or have prices for one-time usage.

I got the cheap one week trial and didn't find anything useful so I wanted to cancel and I couldn't find it in time to not incur the $30 charge. I tried again, took me about 20-30 minutes to find it - it's buried in the manage account area. I called and talked to Priscilla (agent ID **) and at first she was only authorized to give $11 - I told her that wasn't acceptable and she immediately went and talked to someone to get the full amount refunded. She was kind and polite - I think the customer service reps probably get a lot of calls like mine and I bet it's awful. Priscilla was calm and clear. I know it's common for businesses to hide the cancellation. Its a practice that should have been made illegal had we had adequate leadership in the US. But alas, here we are yet again bending over for corporate greed. Cancelling a service should be just as easy as it was to sign up - PERIOD.

Well I purchased Spokeo to look up my girlfriend's social media platforms to make sure she didn't have any dating sites and it gave me all her old ones from 14years ago. I then searched myself and it says I have none. I have a buuuuunch! Every home that was listed had names on there that I've never heard before in my life living with me. My 21 year old son is 29 on there with no social platforms and he has 7 and the list goes on..Total rip off and this site can ruin a relationship for inaccurate results and misinformation. I am going to the BBB with this because my personal information is false on here

This company is awful. I signed up for the trial and paid the 95 cents to try it out once. I was not thrilled with the search and canceled the same day. Well today they still charged my 30$ for a service I canceled a week ago. Spokeo sucks. Go with Beenverified.

Well, I was a victim of the old Spokeo scam, too. I had them research a certain piece of information and they provided it and I was charged $.95 which I was happy to pay, but then eight days later I am very unhappy to say that I get a notice that I am being charged $29.95. I immediately called Spokeo to find out what this charge is for and they said it is for the subscription service that I signed up for. Big problem. I never, I repeat, never, never authorized signing up for a subscription.

I used this website to find information that was lost concerning a marriage date. I had to pay the $1.00 for the initial information which had nothing to do with what I was requesting. To get the information I requested I was to pay another $19.99 and sign up with an account. I could cancel at any time within the 7 day offer. Once I paid, it brought up more information but none of which I needed. To request more I had to pay another $19.99. At this point I contacted their customer service and asked for a refund due to the information I was hoping to get after paying the first $19.99 wasn't provided. They refused any refund saying it did not meet their criteria for a refund. They did cancel my account but I still paid over $20.00 for information I did not receive.

Spokeo was $25 and totally useless for me. I was checking someone's marriage and divorce history trying to help them get a passport. They were uncertain on when and where their marriage /divorce/remarriage occurred. Wanted this info so I could get docs. Spokeo did not have any info on this person's marriage/divorce history! Public info the Spokeo does not get, WHAT A RIP OFF! A lot of neighbor info, which I can get out of a phone book or just walking around or local town website!

BEWARE! I was sent by them to a known Scam Site to enter my credit card. My bank would not process the charge since the site is a known scam. I will never go on Spokeo again. They say free, then want payment and send you to a scam site to pay them.

Spokeo provided back the very basic information, name and address of the person which is provided free by simply doing a google search. Any additional information they required you to pay upgrade fees. I ended up canceling my "membership" and went with another app. Yes, I had to pay another fee but I was also provided with a 15 page report. There are many apps out there. My recommendation is don't waste your time AND money with Spokeo. It's the worst.

I used it to find someone and it said they found the person. But results were wrong and no further data! I gave a name, email address, city and state but nothing worked! I wasted my money! I should ask refund!

For some reason a trial period cancellation request that I sent was not canceled. Had two monthly charges that should have been cancelled. Spokeo confirmed that there was no service provided for the two months as I did not use the service but was charged anyway. I have one charge refunded and was assured that the other would follow. I will update the community once the second charge is refunded.

This Company is a complete and total scam. I tried to search one person and was baited initially with the free 7 day trial. Before I knew I I have a 1.95 dollar Amex charge and a few minutes later a 19.95 Amex charge. I called the customer care center to explain how I was baited and charged, not supplied anything intel of importance and they said they can not refund the money. In fact the manager was super short and rude, and had not service skills whatsoever. She hung up half way thru our conversation. They set up their site so you click on a tab and you are automatically charged upgrades without knowing it. The company should not be allowed to be in business. Super unethical.

I have been charged every month after cancellation 4 months ago… I could not find one name on there and they had a 1 special and I 100. Dollar and I 100% cancelled… I am disputing. This is unbelievable

Unfortunately, I cannot give them Zero stars. This is a scam that relies on people not seeing their charges on their Credit Cards. Starts with a $0.95 charge and then a month later basically a $30 charge every month. They then offer a small credit back when you call them to dispute. Just a big Scam that masquerades as a legitimate company.

Site is a joke. First, they lie and advertise they are free, yet after going through all the steps to find someone's information, then it pops up that you have to pay. That's false advertising and they should be called out on it.

Such a scam. Paid $0.97 for one super outdated and useless report, then they charged me $29.99 for a subscription. They are so sneaky and gross - Legitimate companies don't need to trick customers. Stay far away! The hassle is not worth what you get!

Beware of this website. They announce $0.95 for a search, but later charge you $29.95 for a subscription you never asked for. I was able to get a refund from a very proactive representative. I hope I received it, but it seems very wrong the way this company sells their services with hidden subscriptions and uses your financial information for their own benefit.

Bought a $0.95 lookup service, got charged $30 the next month for a "membership". I'm sure they have some hidden small print somewhere that allows this and they hope you don't notice. Evil. Do not recommend.

Feels really slow, not to mention they advertise themselves as a way to get a "free background check", even though absolutely none of the checks are free. This is complete and total false advertising. Really disappointed.

Created an account to research my own name, $0.95 and if you want background check $5. That gives you a 6 day free trial. I just needed to see what information there was on me and well this company clumps all identical first and last names together, regardless if middle initials don't match. My full name did not come up on the initial search, however it came up as an Alias for another similar name. For example: John Oo Doe came up and under alias "John Doe" my real name was listed along with other aliases. A whole bunch of addresses associated with the name came up, some were mine (past and present) and others were from nowhere I have ever lived or even visited before. They just seem to clump similar names together. How people use this website to investigate or search for someone boggles my mind as I half the information could be and/or is incorrect.

I would not recommend this site.. I tried the free trial, tried to cancel the day before the end of the trial and could not enter the account. The day of the end of free trial they had already charged my credit card overnight, I had to call several time, finally I had a person picking up at "tech support".. I was reimbursed only $10 out of the 29.99 they charged. This is ridiculous... I should have read the bad reviews before! My fault... don't fall for it.

Be very wary using this service. It has good information but I thought I was purchasing a one time search and bought a subscription without my knowledge and was charged $29 per month for two months without me realizing it! Poor business practice.

Just don't. They have very little info once you pay. The "free" trial is not at all free. They charge you the full amount anyway. I would like to see them out of business for shady business practices.

I wish I would have done some research and read more fine print on the 95 cent search that doesn't find anything useful and then you get the 29.95 charge later because you didn't cancel it within that first week.

If I could leave zero stars I would. I spent 29.95 for information and didn't get it. Then spent 19.95 for additional and more deeper information and still didn't get it. So that's 49.80 wasted for nothing. This is fraud and they are scammers and don't want to give refunds cause they know they aren't given information that's paid for. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!

I paid $1.00 for one look lookup. Two weeks later today they take $ 29.95 out of my checking account. Without my permission. I am reporting them to the Better Business Bureau and will pursue my refund through the courts. I will will also warn all my friends family and social sites to never ever use Spokeo. They are scam artists and criminals and will pay me back.

The website appeared to offer several days of use for around $1. This allowed them to get my source of paying. Then I got a charge for $25 for a report I did not know I was authorizing. And my $1 trial signed me up for $30 a month membership. There is no way of deleting your membership online. You have to call customer support. In addition, the information I got was not correct. DO NOT USE SPOKEO.

To test the service, I searched first for a neighbor I know very well. Spokeo didn't find him at all. I then searched for a very close friend. Same. Spokeo couldn't find her. So, I searched for myself. Spokeo found I existed, but practically nothing else. Didn't find my current address. Didn't find that I had been married and am now a widow. Nothing at all about my work. A simple Google search will return a ton of info about me, since I have an extensive internet presence, a website, I am on Wikipedia, etc.

They start by charging you 95 cents and make you think that you will be able to get information when in fact you can’t without requesting a report. What they don’t tell you before you hit the button to request the report is that it will cost you $19.95. Their customer service will not refund if there’s any data on the report. They didn’t provide any more information than I was able to gather by just doing a general search on the internet. Not good business practices!

I ordered a free trial and paid .95. I was charged $2.95. They scammed me out of two bucks. Not a very good company. They hide the fact that there's a $2 fee because I didn't see it. Otherwise I wouldn't have done it the free trial. I mean scammers.

To be honest, I think this is a horrible site. At the very beginning it tells you that it's free but that is a total lie. It will take you through 15 to 20 minutes of answering questions. And loading your page. All to no avail. At the end before it shows you any information that it supposedly has. It's going to say, "Hey you gotta pay." I think they should advertise correctly instead of making a person waste all of their time.

They charged me $19.95 for a report I didn’t purchase or want. But since they generated it, they won’t refund the money! I originally purchased a report for .95 cents. They used that banking info to charge me another 19.95 for a report I didn’t purchase or want.

What a SCAM! They offer 99 cent test ride and then setup a $29 monthly bill without your permission. I know what you're thinking. You must have missed the fine print, or clicked a subscription box. Nope! Look at the reviews at Better Business Bureau. Same scam, over and over. Litigation against them. No surprise. Do yourself a favor. Don't do it! When I called, they offered a partial refund for something I never agreed to and....oh...never used. Run, run, run from their site.

BEWARE! I used this service to do a search for relatives of an elderly neighbor. The search cost $.95. They then started to charge me 29.95/month for a subscription that I never agreed to. They refused to return the money. This company is sleazy and not trustworthy! What's more, they used my Paypal account without authorization.

You get to see a lot of information about your first search but you can't copy it. You get no report until you pay $30. The $1.95 trial for A week is a lie and not available. I was able to wait on hold for several minutes and have somebody confirm what I thought and cancel my 1.95 payment when I threaten to report them to the credit card company

I tried their "free trial" to find a friend I saw in his local paper whose business & home had burnt down. The only thing they told me was his home phone number which doesn't exist anymore. I was hoping they would have a current address or number since it had burnt down in May (this is January). No such luck. Then when checking my bank account today I discovered they had charged me $29.95. I hadn't even remembered their name. I had to search online to find out who they were and what they did. I'll be contacting my bank later to dispute the charge.

I was doing a background check and got basic information for $14.95 but it was not accurate based on my knowledge of the person. I paid $19.95 extra for more detailed information based on their promotion of unlocking more public records hoping the information would be clarified with more details. When the extra report was finished and I opened it up it had the same exact information in it that the basic report had - nothing more, nothing less. I called Spokeo and asked for refunds because both reports had obvious errors in them based on my knowledge of the person. Spokeo gave me the $14.95 refund but refused to give me the $19.95 refund because the customer service representative said "the report had information in it so we don't give refunds on that level." I said "even though the information was the same and wrong?" He said "yes." Spokeo is a scam. Don't use them.

Besides the obvious of how you hide the information that you'll be purchasing a subscription with any single purchase on your site. It barely functions as a search engine for information. The company itself seems to suffer from malpractice and evident predation on any single person who doesn't read all of the fine print. The fact you're able to still be a company while clearly trying to deceive anyone who would like to make a one time purchase I wish the worst since you're making me go through the BBB just for a refund since your phone operators are clearly paid to say a bunch of nothing and tell me nothing and do nothing in regards to a refund

Looked like I was going to get a full report for 95 cents. Instead just got basic info that I could obtain for free. Obviously the fee was minimal, but my wasted time and feeling of being scammed, was frustrating. I really think these guys should be forced to change their ways.

Be careful with this scam website. I wanted to get a criminal background check on myself to verify there was no incorrect info on me. Spokeo lures you in with a $.95 single report. What they give you is NOTHING. I received a report of my previous addresses and phone numbers. The majority of addresses and phone numbers weren't even mine. That’s it. Within minutes, I received an email showing a SECOND charge of $19.95 that I had NEVER authorized. I call Spokeo to clear this up. They are no help and stated that they sent a report to my email and then abruptly ended the call. These people are scammers!!!

The information on the site was either outdated or completely incorrect. They offer more in depth searches for an additional fee, but I would not trust the information based on what I received after paying the standard fee.

Spokeo posted that my nephew was deceased. His mother and our family have been trying to verify or find out what has happened -- but there is no record in his county or city that reflects this and apparently it isn't true. What a horrible thing to put on the Internet. DO NOT TRUST THIS SITE.

I would rate this website lower if I could. Words can't even express the way it played with my feelings. I was trying to find a long lost friend of mine who moved away years ago. I notice this website and thought it would be good to use because it said it was free. I took all of the time to enter my information AND wait for it to load. AFTER all that was done it tells me it's NOT free, and as I am a child I have no way of paying, so I had to give up. All in all I think Spokeo is a horrible website, and a huge waste of time, I would never try using it if I were you.

I had someone who was testing me from several numbers. I wanted to get some information on the numbers. Spokeo looked like a good tool, so I went with the 7 trial period and they billed me 90 cents. From what I had understood when reading the offer, if I wanted to continue I would be billed for their basic service which was around $2 a month. Eight days after, I called them and told them that I wanted to cancel the service. The basic service was useless, I was able to find nothing on the 3 phone numbers I searched under. I checked my card today and I discovered that they had billed me for $29. What?!! I called them and they refused to refund me, they said that I should have read through the agreement.

Total rip-off, won't refund you after you cancel! Refunded $11.95 of the $29.95 after canceling don't know where they came up with this number. I paid $29.95 for a monthly subscription. The information I got wasn't even good information, TERRIBLE!!!

Total rip off. Paid $19.95 for a report and I got the exact same info online at county courthouse for free. I called for refund and they said it is not eligible for refund. Don’t waste your money. Customer support is ZERO help.

I was only supposed to be charged a few dollars for a one time search. Then I was automatically signed up for the $0.95 free trial but was charged $29.85 twice in the same day. When I signed into my checking account the next day I saw the fraudulent charges. I immediately cancelled my membership. I didn’t even have an account for 24 hours. I should have only been charged $0.95 because I cancelled before the trial period was over. I immediately called Spokeo and they told me that I had signed up for the monthly fee and was only charged once. When I called my bank they confirmed that I was charged twice. Don’t use spokeo.

I'm just repeating what so many other people have said already, but I paid 0.95USD for single lookup, then 2 months later I discover my card has been charged twice for a 29.95USD monthly subscription. Disgusting predatory business.

I purchased the least expensive background check on someone I recently met. I checked the web myself but found only basic information. I selected Spokeo and the report came back with the exact same information that's on the web. Then, that evening the credit card I used to pay Spokeo, was used fraudulently. I had to close my account - odd coincidence. Save yourself time & aggravation and select a different search engine.

I punched in my own phone number. It came back, said it was verified last April 11th 2024 to someone other than me. I've had my number for 7 years. So Spokeo is not reliable. I would not even give them a flippen penny to do research..

I have tried to see my credit score and went on the internet and searched a free credit score. I was directed to Credit Verify also know as ID protect and Spokeo. I entered the requested information including my credit card number thinking it was safe to verify my identity to get the correct score and I was never asked for a payment and never gave any consent for a payment. The next day i checked my credit card account. I noticed that I was charged $9.95. I contacted them and requested the cancellation of my membership and refund the amount. They were willing to cancel the membership but would not refund the money. In my opinion they are a scammers. I don't trust them and would not recommend them at all.

Spokeo charged us $29.99 that we were not expecting. I went to their site and started chat with the Spokeo Virtual Assistant. I requested a chat with a Spokeo Expert (a live person). After a chat about our request, Expert said they would be able to refund $11.98. I responded, what about the $29.99? Expert said that $11.98 was all they were able to refund; would I like her employee ID number. I responded that yes, I would like her employee ID number. When I had that I requested to chat with a Supervisor. Expert said to wait but then came back with the full refund. If you persist and are nice you will get your refund. Note that we did not use their services except once on the day we had the trial offer. If you used their services a lot you might just want to cancel your subscription. Don't expect to get something for nothing.

I am in a dispute over this service charging me for a subscription that I had no idea I was buying. I did one search and paid 95 cents for it. Not long thereafter, I was charged for a one month subscription. I'm a senior citizen with disabilities. It's hard to believe that a company, who was immediately told that I had never intended to subscribe, is refunding far, far, less than half of what they automatically charged me. I never used the service except for the one search they offered and for which I paid. I have no need for the service. It's a predatory strategy making a profit from vulnerable customers without providing any service at all. The staff scoffs when you advise that you will appeal. I still hope that PayPal will help me.

I signed up for one check of an email for 95cents. A week later they used my charge card info to hit me for 29.95 for some kind of subscription. The service rep canceled the subscription but did not refund my 29.95. Sad that people do business this way.

This company is a bait and switch scam! They advertise a free person search. When you enter the information it says you need to spend .95 cents for a one time fee. Then you find out they actually billed you for 29.95 with monthly reoccurring purchases! They are crooks and are billing amounts not authorized.

Update: I was given a refund of the subscription price. Their practice may not have been the easiest but they resolved it to my satisfaction. Spokeo seems to be an honest company.

I will say it does work, but I had a terrible experience with them. I did the 95 cents offer, did what I needed to do, and then canceled it. On their site it confirmed it was canceled and showed I didn’t have any subscription. Forward two month, I see 30 dollars from each month since I used it was taken from me. Signed into my account and saw that the subscription STILL said it was CANCELLED. Which was a big fat lie. Luckily I used PayPal because I don’t trust new sites so I was able to stop the subscription that way but I still was down 60 dollars. If you care about your money, DO NOT USE THIS SITE.

I'm tired of all companies who advertise free lookup but charge for the results. Spokeo is one of these, and frankly it is false advertising. To me, look-up means you get the results. Don't use this company or any company who lies about what they are offering.

Spokeo is a scam. They use a charge of $0.95 to set up a recurring charge of $29.95.. This business is a scam. Do not use. When I called them to ask why they charged my card $29.95 they said that's what they do after you agree to pay them $0.95.

Spokeo is not up to date, so if you need current info I would not recommend. It is good for looking up old addresses and phone numbers, but it can be inaccurate. I am personally listed as deceased so this review might not even matter.

All information displayed for U$ 0.95 is widely available on the web. Everything else they may have access costs money, export the simple stuff not available. I knew it already but for U$ 0.95 I thought maybe... stupid me. All the flowering around "searching this searching that... is ANNOYING."

I joined Spokeo with their trial option, and immediately my bank notified me of a possible scam on my credit card. That is an indication already of shady dealings by Spokeo. For the past two days, I have tried to log onto their website, only to get the error message: 504 Gateway Time-Out. I have tried logging on using Chrome, DucDuckGo, and Inet Explorer, as well as using two different computers as well as my phone, and still get the time-out message. I have cleared the cache and cookies on all search engines. I finally called customer service, and the rep told me to download Firefox. When I declined, she disconnected the call. I AM NOT HAPPY!

Don't believe what you see when it runs a search. It gives the impression it has found something. Only after I paid did it reveal that there were no results for the search I did. Very misleading. And if you pay anything, it will automatically sign you up for a trial that will auto-renew after a week. One of the worst operators I've ever come across.

Bait and switch is all this platform is used for. I paid $0.95 for a one time phone number lookup, which didn't even provide a result. The platform goes through a "search" then states they have located the information and make you pay the fee. After paying the fee there was NO result. This is infuriating. And even worse, they signed me up for a $29.95 monthly subscription that I was not aware of. I don't have a log in and unable to access any type of account with this shady site. AVOID this site at all costs! I have no notification nor receipt that was provided notifying me of the charge either.

This site is horrible. I feel like it just stole $20 dollars from me. First they say free 7 day trial for $0.95 so I do it through Apple Pay where I have to double click the sleep button on my phone and then my phone uses Face ID and confirms the purchase. I look at the report which is worthless and then I see it says $20 for another report, so I click the little box with no intention of going through with the purchase. Just like that I’m charged $20 for some useless report that tells me the names of my neighbors. All of the sudden it bypasses all of my phones verifications when I make purchases. No double clicking the sleep button to confirm the purchase and no Face ID. So I call them and eventually speak to a supervisor who tells me it’s non refundable and she is ending the call. I think this was the worst company I have ever dealt with online.

Scam company-do not use. I wish I had looked on here before I signed up for their $.95 one time fee. They have a $29.95 fee that they stick you with no matter what. On top of that the one time fee was pretty much useless as it didn't even give me the name of the cell phone I originally was looking up. Totally worthless service that is just trying to scam you. If I could give less than 1 star I would.

I was looking for a site to reverse look up spam numbers to determine if it was actually a person or a business, aka legit number. After a few searches I found nothing but random difficult to understand data which was by no means informative. Paid for 3 month subscription out the gate and am disappointed, this is based on my looking up known numbers, my own, my family's, etc. and when it returns nothing but incorrect data I contacted customer service about this as I know sometimes there's a tech issue, but the response 'our data is updated periodically' I found unacceptable. Since I have had my number for about 4 years this means periodically is less than that. Asked for a refund and oh everyone immediately has gone home nothing but chat bot and email us. I tend to never review things negatively, others may have great experiences but this guy is totally dissatisfied as it provides none of the things advertised.

BEWARE! They offer a $.95 Trial Membership which gives limited inaccurate information. They charge $19.95 to get more outdated, limited, inaccurate information. If you EVER signed up for the trial membership and don't remember, (in my case 10 years ago!), they will bill you $29.95 since you "renewed" and are not considered a new member. This company is a complete SCAM and needs its license pulled. DO NOT BITE THEIR BAIT!

Total scam! They say one price .98 for the info, but don't only give you basic information that's already online. Then they say $29.99 will give you the actual info, then they charge another $19.99 for again, the rest of the info, then again charge you....another $20 or $30 bucks for more info. I gave up after the first $50 I was charged. I mean, it's info that is on CPAC already. Basically I should charge them. NO REFUND. Total joke. Go-to any other site... seriously, any other site, just not this one. Absolutely not worth it.

I had to write a review because this company is horrible. A bit scammy! It initially charges you 95 cents and promises a full report. But after payment is received, you only get a little bit of information. That information was not even accurate, I already knew more than what the site presented to me. Then it offers a more in depth report for an additional 19.99. You should give the full price in advance because it comes off dishonest. Also you need to do better with your information. It's outdated and not accurate. I even looked myself up, and it wasn't right.

Now I know why they are rated a one on here and I should have read the reviews before purchase. I did one transaction for 95 cents and did not opt in for the monthly membership. I see from other reviews it's not going to do any good to call but I'll give it a whirl. If something sounds too good it truly is.

BEWARE of this company! They are SCAM ARTISTS and they will take advantage of you! I accepted SPOKEO’s one-week free trial off for 95 cents to look for contact information on one person. Then out of the blue, this company starts charging me $29.95 every month for a service and subscription I did NOT sign up for or need. This company NEVER indicated up front that there would be a subscription fee charged to my PayPal account. This company is a HUGE RIP-OFF and they take advantage of folks – they will REAP what they SOW which is deceit.

Spokeo took my money then told me the person I had requested a report on didn't exist. I had used a shortened form of his name. So I used his full name and was given decades old information, nothing from the last 15 years. This person has consistently held down jobs, rented apartments and now owns a home, but Spokeo couldn't find any of that. Even the old info was incorrect, saying he finished just high school when he actually graduated from college. I canceled my subscription during the trial phase.

The $0.95 one time search is a lie. This criminal organization will charge you for a small month shortly after using the $.95 one time search promo. You do not even explicitly ask for the subscription. They will slip it in through obscure practices. Best bet.. don't use these thieves.

I just had to put a hold on my bank card, because Spokeo takes your card # for what the user thinks is a one-time charge, signs the user up automatically for monthly debits of $29.95 & does that forever hoping the user never notices. May they rot in Hell.

Act like they are accumulating lots of information for you but once you pay, absolutely nothing. Looking for an old boyfriend. Was not able to put jr after his name in Spokeo so they gave me his father, who they claimed was 90, but he has been dead 20 years. Could not find my ex, his son, as a relative. Pitiful. After having a totally positive experience with Spokeo, I mistakenly let the days pass and my bank account was hit for a full monthly charge. I realized it was all my fault and that they had even sent me an ad to continue using their service, a couple of days before my seven day deadline. But realizing that the research they provided was so detailed and because I have more old friends and family I would like to reach, I decided to not fuss over the charge. When I called to go ahead and cancel my membership I reached an incredibly nice young woman named Felivia who was so patient with me. She is a keeper for Spokeo and needs to have a mention on her HR records for doing an outstanding job of customer support.

The information is not accurate. Can not be trusted. I signed up for trial for the 95 cents and because I had an account 2 years ago they signed me up for 3 months and charged me the $39. I was able to make them reverse it. It does not tell you that when you sign up. I looked myself up and the information is not accurate. It was not for any family member either. Can not be trusted.

I did a search which required a $0.95 payment to get the results. I paid the $0.95, received the results and about a week later I noticed an additional $29 charged to my account by Spokeo. I called and they agreed to give me back my $29 as it was unauthorized but be very careful giving these guys any of your information and know what you are signing up for. They can take your money immediately but it takes 7 days to put it back.

I was trying to find an important address. I paid $1.00 to supposedly find this out. The address was from 8 years back. So I paid the $14.95 for 1 month. I then entered the name and the information was so outdated. I went to BeenVerifed and found everything I needed. I chatted online with an associate and ask for my money back. They wanted to give me $5.98. I told them about the outdated information. They told me $5.98 was the cap of the refund. DO NOT give them your money.

Spokeo is a scam. The link states that you can search for free. All I needed was an address. The Spokeo website would pretend that they were doing a through search, after the search they would charge you ninety five cents for a one week trial. After you accept the offer, they would then tell you that they could not locate any information on the person that you had requested information on. I decided to make use of the free trial. I found nothing, nothing at all. Spokeo knew that there was no information in advance, this is the reason why they blurred out the face. I cancelled my subscription immediately! What a waste of my time!

Well, a possible scammer gave me her phone number and I was investigating if it was a real person but I got scammed by Spokeo instead, lol. The information I got from Spokeo did not help at all, even though they supposedly had more information before I paid and once I paid I got like 2 lines of worthless information and the worst part is the subscription renewed for $29.97 when I contacted them for a refund, only $11.98 was returned. Long story cut short, Spokeo gave me a damage of more than $100 before my card was deactivated by grey.co. If you have been defrauded by Spokeo, don't stay away, go get them!!! Spokeo has a lot of incorrect information about me on its site. I could not believe the things I saw on its site about me! I contacted them and they did nothing to correct the information. I hate to get my attorney involved, but it looks like I may have to.

They claim they had fine print authorizing a charge, but if it was there it was so fine I never saw it. I am so angry that such a known ripoff company is still allowed to operate on Venmo that I closed that account too. Fifty years ago a company like this would have gone to jail.

Spokeo sent me an e mail saying get a report for free. They contacted me then wanted credit card # and wanted to charge me 95 cents. Free is free. Not 95 cents. It is fraud and lies. I would not piss on Spokeo if they were on fire. Will contact Federal Trade Commission. They should not advertise something that is not true. Looking at other reviews Spokeo should be banned from commiting these fraudulent acts.

Total scam. Before receiving payment they claim to have all kind of information of the owner email you’re searching. After receive payment it says no information available. It was only 95 cents but I’m going to get my money back. Hate scammers.

At first the site says that they are free, then it wants to charge you .95 so I did that and then it will ask you your experience so far and I thought that it was going pretty good so I gave them a happy face, then it will ask you for 27.95 for a monthly subscription. Then it gives you a option to speak to a AGENT. It asks you a series of questions and then it will say there are no live agents at this time expect to hear from someone in 24 hrs. This company sucks!!!!

This site is a rip off. I used a ONE TIME trial to do one reverse phone search for .95. A few days later they charged my debit card 29.95 for a monthly fee claiming the trial automatically converted to a subscription. I called to cancel they which performed right away. However, they never refunded the 29.95. I called to complain. They refunded me all of 11.98. So that's 17.97 for one reverse phone search.

My son received a strange call, so went on Spokeo to look up the number. The site said he just needs to pay $1 for the search, and he provided his debit card. This was in January 2023. He never clicked "subscribe," nor was he offered or accepted a "membership." He never received any emails from Spokeo, from that first inquiry. Instead, he has been receiving bills for $24.95 monthly since then, which he had completely missed until we went through his charges today. This has been on his debit card, he hasn't been able to dispute charges. This is very scam-like behavior, and we would like to understand our rights to get a refund.

I have used Instant Checkmate and Been Verified in the past and wanted to try Spokeo on a 1 week trial basis for $1. I liked the aforementioned services but the information was not always dependable so I wanted to check out Spokeo. I did a people search, but to my amazement, the court records search was not a part of the basic plan which is $29/month on a month to month contract. It cost another $29/month to get the court records. I honestly thought this was a mistake and contacted the company. Nope, no mistake. But they don't tell you up front that this is not part of the basic package. I can find phone numbers and email addresses for free, the criminal history is the most important thing to me. I have two words for these people, but cussing would absolutely bring me down to their level.

I used Spokeo to track a random phone number with the same area code as me out of curiosity. I was given exactly what was offered but they signed me up for a 30$ subscription that I did not in any way give permission for. Thankfully they failed to take the 30$ from my account so I was safe but after looking at the reviews here for it many were not as lucky. If you used PayPal to make the payment as I did immediately go to the "Payments" section then "Automatic Payments" and cancel it. Once you do this they will not be able to take 30$ from you even if they try. Summary - Spokeo is not a scam and offers what they say they offer but use disgusting, predatory methods of taking significantly more money than they say they will take.

I paid ten dollars, got a disconnected phone number and this morning was billed $29,95 for a subscription. When I called them they would not issue a refund but said they would cancel the subscription.

They share a bunch of private information, much of it is incorrect. They do not provide an avenue to correct information and their 'opt-out' process is deceptive and time consuming. Typically the opt-out process doesn't even work, so you end up having to get help from their customer service with mixed results. At best, you get a page removed after wasting hours in back and forth (e.g. try the opt-out form again, you probably did it wrong, try again, blah blah blah); at worse they claim they solved the issue but the page is still there and they make up ** about caching (which is false, I've tried from fresh VMs). Or refuse because it doesn't match your info--didn't bother them when they collected the false info, but when it comes to removing it, suddenly they maliciously care about specifics.

Signed up for a one time fee to find out information about an entity on the internet. Not even sure that information was accurate. Was positive I paid for a one time fee. Notified a week later about a $29.95 charge to my account from Spokeo. After research, found out this was a common practice from Spokeo and in many situations, even though customers had changed their credit cards, Spokeo had managed to find and charge their new credit card to continue a subscription fee the customer thought they had cancelled.

Unless one has an hour to waste while Spokeo tracks down unnecessary information, not requested but forced upon the Consumer, time wasted while site portends searching for useful but useless information, unless one has unlimited funds and can burn money chasing shadows of nonexistent companies, it's a total waste of time. Typical users are required to provide personal data which ends up in a system of Data Collection then resold to other data collectors, while charging the unsuspecting customer monthly fees for unregulated services which provide undesirable results.

I was doing background checks and everyone including myself had no recent information. And about 75% of what I found was totally wrong. My parents had moved once in 40 years and Spokeo information said they moved 4 times and cities they were never have lived in.

Have a number repeatedly calling at all hours with no message being left? Try looking it up. Don’t use Spokeo if you are looking for anything more than “yes this is a phone number”. They will charge you .95 to get “basic” but not the business name info. Because you pay more for that - but somewhere in there they sneak in a full membership even though you said said no, and paid for a single transaction. No they won’t refund you. Because it must be how they make the money. Awful.

I used this service having a decent amount of certainty on the person's phone number but wanted to check. The report was lacking at best. I am pretty sure I cancelled my subscription, but was charged $24.95. I promptly call them back to ask for a refund but was told only $9 could be refunded. This company provides a service, but they are also as SCAM. I had a phone number I wanted to look up so I paid the $0.95 fee to find this out. I got back a city only with no name. I considered canceling this 95 cent payment, but thought I'd rather not waste 5 minutes to get back 95 cents. Lo and behold, seven days later I get a $24.95 charge on my credit card. In July 2021 I used Spokeo's "offer" for a single search for only $.95. I must have missed the fine print because I certainly was not aware that I was ordering their $24.95 per month service to be charged to my PayPal account in perpetuity. I immediately contacted Spokeo customer service and was told I needed to have cancelled the service within 30 days of signing up. After much discussion the representative agreed to cancel the service and refund half of my money. So I filed a dispute with PayPal and they said I had signed up for the ongoing service and had to pay for it. Spokeo uses misleading and unethical marketing to get people to unknowingly sign up. They know a number of folks do not check their monthly statements very close. It is a theft by deceit scheme.

I got a spam call and was looking up the number and the caller ID online. Several hits in a Google search seemed really bogus (like they were just clickbait). Turned out that the "so called" text on the sites doesn't actually appear: all there is on the sites is a link to Spokeo. I contacted Spokeo and some guy in the chat window couldn't understand why I was upset and WHY I wouldn't want to sign up for their (PAY) service. So I said "I want you to put your boss on AND maybe someone from your legal department...." And told the idiot (AND his supervisor) to ask their legal department for the legal definition of the phrase "bait and switch". Which IMHO, is clearly what is going on.

I have been using Spokeo for 3 years and find it very useful in evaluating potential renters of my property. Information is not always accurate or update but the extensive amount of information allows me to get a good feel for potential tenants.

I took my phone number in and it said a different location and it said a different Carrier. It said AT&T. I have Verizon. I'm in Alabama. It said I'm in Camillus NY. Wouldn't want to pay for lies. It is a scam.

Was advertised for free. Never got the info I was looking for. Then found out that they had charged $24 to my credit card and were going to do so every month. Tried to cancel, but for that they charge another $37. I decided to call the credit card company and they advised me that I'd better cancel my credit card and have it replaced, which I did.

I input the subject phone number in the search window of the spokeo website and after few seconds, a window opened up and indicated the following information is AVAILABLE related to the subject phone number – Name, Phone number, Address, email address and other related info, but in order to get the information, you had to pay. So I paid.

Don't waste your time or money paying for the so called "data base" of information. First you have to agree to pay $0.95 to check the report you requested, which isn't that bad, but once you're in, they keep asking for more money, $4.95, $9.95, if you want to look at more detailed information. Then it jumps to $21.95...etc, etc. and just keeps going. None of the information is accurate. I had gotten a strange email from a company in California with an unknown name attached to my email and this made me curious as to how they got my email address, so I logged on to Spokeo thinking I could find out some information. Not at all! I think this is a scam! Again, don't waste your time or money.

I used their service to look up 1 person. Paid the fee for the 1 time use, apparently they signed me up for a monthly $24.99 plan and only found it 10 months later that it was charging me every month...Somehow a 1.95 cent purchase turned into $249.... They never were given permission to auto draft and customer service doesn't care even though they can see there has never been a login past that 1 event. Use a different service because no telling if me turning it off will actually turn off the billing...

I was searching for family members, even though I did not find the information I wanted Spokeo staff were more than willing to help, even after I cancelled my subscription. I give them 5 stars for effort.

I rather liked this site. Most of the information I needed was available. Occasionally the information was incorrect or I could not find the person / business I was looking for. But, hey, who is perfect. I would like to see a pricing schedule for getting reports by the report of a set of reports. This would make this even more useful. I only need to search this type of information occasionally. So having to pay a monthly fee is not reasonable for me. Other than that this is a useful site and fairly easy to navigate. I'd use it again.

BANK DEBIT FOR APP WHICH HAS NO VALUE FOR SOUTH AFRICAN USER: I installed your App: Contact+ on the 07th of July 2020 as well as, WHO - PEOPLE & PHONE SEARCH, however after installing I noticed that the apps are not purposeful for the South African environment. I immediately uninstalled. The company then debited my account for both apps, (1) R144,99 for Contact+ on the 09th of July 2020 [GOOGLE*Contact Plus g.co/helppay#GBGB] and (2) Who-People & Phone Search R420.58 [SPK*SPOKEO SEARCH 800-6994264 CAUS] on the 13th of July 2020.

I appreciate this company working with me to provide an experience above my expectations for a dispute clarification that I felt needed to be resolved. They went well above and beyond my expectations to treat me more than fair and provide a win, win situation in which I would not hesitate to use their services again, or refer others to their business. It did take some communication, but they were willing to work with me, and that is what I have come to expect from a solid company.

I needed to find out some contact information about a person. The steps were easy to follow and my contact with the office was very professional. It was easy to sign up and also easy to discontinue if I wanted to.

Blocking unwanted calls. Spokeo serves the purpose that I subscribed to it for. I do not answer my phone if I do not recognize the number, so that sets me up to possibly miss important calls. With Spokeo, I can research the number after the call. Spokeo lets me know if the call is political, sales, robocall, or no name calls so that I feel safe in blocking those numbers from my phone.

I thought Spokeo would be a good site, however, I am unable to get information on anyone I enter. They cannot locate the person or come up with totally invalid info, nothing seems to work or is incorrect. I even give correct birthdates or area info & even that doesn't help, I am at a loss, I thought they were a well established site but no matter what I do or enter it doesn't seem to matter. I did try communicating with customer service and they did respond right away & were very nice & tried to be helpful but their suggestion of clearing my cache did not work either. I am going to try to cancel as it is not worth the effort. I do feel bad about the whole experience & probably should have did some research into this site initially, but as I said I thought they've been around for so long that they indeed were very reputable & I wouldn't have a problem. Live & learn I guess, hopefully I am able to cancel without any trouble.

I was charged 20 bucks for subscription that I sign up for as I only wanted one time fee of 0.92 and I unknowingly subscribed. My bank rejected their payment and I had to get a new card. And I was attempted to be charged by them for subscription on my new card that they didn't even have on file !!!! Be careful! Do not use them. I went to login and cancel the subscription I never approved of and saw the old card was on file so how were they able to get my new card info? Something is off about this company. Stay away. It is inconvenient to have to get a new card third time. I'm just really mad at this point. I will be aware everyone to make sure this doesn't happen to them.

I looked up my father's name to confirm my memory of what year he died in and his name came up on Spokeo. According to this site, he was still alive. He was born in 1913 and died in 1998. The site listed him with a middle initial, which he didn't have, and listed people related to him... my brother, my dad's second wife (they were divorced) and my brother's wife and children. It did not list me or my daughter or my dad's first wife, my mother, who is deceased. Nor did it list my dad's two brothers. Incredible amount misinformation. I guess they don't do fact checking at all. I asked them to remove my dad's name and they agreed to, actually misspelling his name in their response. If you're looking for real information about someone, you'd have better luck looking in a tree trunk.

My brother was diagnosed with lung cancer and I was desperately trying to reach his best friend from a while ago. Somehow I landed on Spokeo.com site and was told for $0.98 I could get the number. Then they hit me with another $24.95 in a week and wouldn't refund the money. I only looked for the one number. Just a scam. The number I received wasn't even any good.

Stay away from Spokeo. I had recently used a potential e-mail address to find a long lost family member. Upon searching for this e-mail address, Spokeo shows that there are search results available; while prompting to select a payment option on the same page. I selected the 1 month billing plan for 13.95; As soon as the transaction went through, Spokeo then shows zero results available for the same e-mail I typed in earlier. This is extremely deceptive and the epitome of bait and switch tactics. I then called to cancel my service and request a full refund. The customer service representative told me that she can only refund me 5.85 and kept asking if there was anything else she can help me with.

I was searching a person and given a trial for $.85. When I went to cancel it a few minutes later they wanted $37.95 to cancel it. As soon as it is posted to my credit card I will put the charge in disputes. I also put a review on their website.

I am starting to feel like many Americans that respond to these data base companies that when you see errors on your shared data that updating becomes an impossible mission. On my case they have about half the data wrong including my photo but as I check out the data which shows a LinkedIn connection for a different person my photo is there.

I was looking for my Brother's last known address since we have not seen each other in 25 years. I signed up for the 7 Day Trial Only. Spokeo automatically charged my Credit Card $24.95 on the 8th day and only refunded me $9.95. Deceptive Practices in not stating up-front that after 7 days, the monthly maintenance fee is $24.95. Everyone please be aware, especially my fellow Veterans and AARP Members.

I was looking for the phone number of a local person and made the mistake of going on Spokeo because we don't have paper phone books anymore; I didn't finish the transaction but they still took $24.95 out of my bank account and would only refund one-half of that. You can get the information cheaper elsewhere and if you go on their site you may end up paying for something you didn't even get or use.

Before I registered for my "free trial" (which by the way is not free - it's 0.95 which is not about the amount of money but the principle of misleading people) their site offered that they had "detailed address information" regarding a phone number I entered. If by detailed address information they mean a CITY then they fulfilled their duty: however, in my personal opinion that is not a detailed address it is rather a city: a very general area - not specific and certainly not a detailed address. Rubbish. Avoid at all costs.

Fell for the $.99 search of a phone number that I got no results for. I was reviewing my account a couple of weeks later only to find a charge of $24.95 that was renewing monthly. Opened a dispute with both Spokeo and my cc company. Waiting for refund but not too optimistic. They are very deceptive!!!! See pop-ups for everything else, why don't we see them to warn us on sites like this?

I purchased a $1.95 info and a week later I was charge for a monthly membership. I did not authorized this. If they think I did, it must be from their confusing webpage. When I received this charge, I tried to log on to the website. The site would not allow me to log on. I had to call them and argue to get my money refunded. It's a scam to steal from you. Don't do it.

I signed up for a one-time search on Spokeo. I got notice they were going to bill me for a month after that, so I immediately went online to cancel. Got a confirmation that my account was canceled on 10/22, and I would not be billed again. I was billed the very next day, which showed up on my November 3rd statement. When I called Spokeo, they first said I had to pay that charge, but I would not be billed again. I said they told me I would not be billed again on 10/22, but I was billed again on 10/23. She argued, then said “Just a minute”. She came back and said my account was eligible for immediate cancellation so she would refund $9.98 of the $$24.95 they should not have billed me. She couldn’t explain anything further. In my book, they are crooked.

If you are looking to identify the owner of a phone number it most likely is not going to happen. When you type in the phone number initially, you will get a response that says you must pay for the information. You will either be asked to sign up for a temporary free membership and pay .95 cents for that which will become a 24 dollar membership automatically if you do not cancel.

If I could they would get 0 stars. Spokeo.com charged my card 2 times each month. Do not give them your banking or card information. They charge whatever they want to your card. Please don't trust this company with your information.

I went to Spokeo to remove my information, due to personal safety concerns. The website is unclear—if you want to remove information about yourself, it makes it seem like you need to pay for a subscription. So I paid for a temporary subscription. Nowhere do they call out that they *auto renew* that subscription. So without any confirmation emails, a month later, $25 comes off my card. I reached out to their support to ask them to cancel and refund it, and they provided a $10 refund, keeping $15 as payment for no services rendered. I removed my information from competitor sites at the same time and Spokeo was by far the worst.

I will preface this review that I ultimately got a refund, however I would like others who might use the service to be warned of Spokeo's deception as part of their business plan. I used Spokeo for the first time paying $0.95 for a single search. At face value it appears as any other micro transaction service, pay as you go. However, what was not made clear was the addition of services beyond the "just $0.95" declaration on their search pages. About 7 days later I received a new charge to my bank account of $24.95, which unlike the first did not come with an emailed receipt. This sort of practice is not uncommon, unfortunately, and I contacted Spokeo right away to request a refund for their deceptive charges.

Today, I was reviewing my bank account. I saw a charge from this company Spokeo which I had never heard of but had seen a previous charge of $.95cents for early this month. I made the assumption it was probably the LLC of a gas station I went to. That wasn’t the case! Today I see a charge for $24.95. I google the company & see they are some type of background check company based in Cali. I have NEVER USED THIS COMPANY.

I used this site once to look into a phone number. Never wanted a subscription but I got one anyway and they charged me and caused an overdraft. Do not use this site if you are looking for a one time use.

They gave me 2 accounts without my knowledge and did not let me cancel/opt out. I paid up to 35 times 29 usd a day. They are not refunding me. I had to finally block both cards. What is my best approach? I thought I had paid a few cents. Now 2000 usd. What shall I do? Calling them does not help.

Very hard to navigate after giving my credit card info for 98 cent intro to find my ex who owes over $40,000 in back child support. Every "find" they have asks for more money to "open". Had no more info than I already knew like his mother's name or that I used to be married to him - duh! Took me half an hour to unsubscribe though. Now after reading other reviews I fear I may still get charged more fees! Don't do it! It is a total scam!!!!

I used SPOKEO SEARCH only once to help me find a scammer. They offered for find it out a number for .95. I did one then no more. That's all. No contract, no email notice. Then they steal my money from my PayPal acc every month for 19.95. Been 2 years. Finally I found it out last month, then I called for cancel it, but still charge me this month. What a robber.

I used Spokeo several months ago to look up a phone number from a Robo call and signed up for a one-month subscription. Since then, I've been charged $29.95 for the service and have not obtained any more information than I would had I just Googled phone numbers. Today, I tried to find the option to cancel my subscription on the Spokeo website and could not find that option. I ended up calling the Spokeo customer service line, only to encounter a rep who was clearly under orders to prevent cancellations. Despite her evasive tactics, I was able to cancel and my request for refund of one month's fee was honored.

I believed that I was ordering the one month subscription, get when I ended up with a three month subscription because it automatically charged me for that and not the one month that it was advertising. I tried writing them and they won't do anything about it, they said I can use their services up til Dec. Which does me no good because nothing was up to date. (I even looked up people who I know are dead, yet Spokeo had no idea). I don't recommend and hell if you want me to search someone for you send me an email. Maybe someone else can find some actual information.

I signed up for spokeo because I assumed they had information about the email I searched for. Despite the landing page that seemingly found tons of hits on the query, I was duped into paying for a service that led to NO RESULTS FOUND. Waste of money. Would not recommend buying.

I never used their services. Today I got a charge from them for 19.95 SPK*SPOKEO SEARCH. I went to my bank to find out more details and I was told that my card was physically swiped at a machine and pin number was entered for this transaction. An online transaction would show up differently in the bank system. If someone stole my credit card number and used it online it would look like an online purchase, and that's not how it shows up. My card was not lost and still with me by the way. How is this possible? Are they using this business to cover up money laundering?

Before agreeing to any kind of search, beware that if they find nothing you do not get a refund. I have since discovered other search sites that will not charge any fee if there is not results. I recommend you do not use Spokeo.com. There are better alternatives. Thankfully, I did not fall for the "free" trial. I will keep a keen vigil on my credit card statement. Only out $1.95, so no big deal.

In April of 2017, I signed up for a free trial on Spokeo.com and on the next day I canceled that trial only to find out 15 months later they had been charging me all along on a monthly basis. I called to get a refund and they only refunded 12 months worth of charges. I called back to demand the entire refund and was told they only refund a years worth. Don't ever believe trial period cancellations are legitimate. Always check your next bank statement to ensure you are not billed. Spokeo steals your money and they refuse to return it all. STAY AWAY FROM SPOKEO!!!

The product itself was somewhat useful but I only signed up for a 7-day free trial and they automatically signed me up for a subscription, which I was not notified about. I was charged $25 and called to get a refund... Because they had no record of my cancelation (of a subscription which I never signed up for in the first place!), they could not refund me my $25. This is incredibly deceptive and I lost $25 to get one phone number.

The results they provide are horrible, want you to pay for more than you should have gotten with your initial subscription. Total joke. Their customer service is horrible and they refuse to refund your money even though they offer a mediocre product. Complete Scam.

Spokeo is a waste of money! For the initial trial period, 9 out of 10 phone numbers you look up will give significant information. The same happens during the initial period after paying for a subscription. However, as soon as the subscription is renewed for the next month or quarterly period, the ratio drops to 1 out of 10 phone numbers looked up providing significant information & you are barraged with efforts to upgrade to the next level, at a much higher subscription rate. The Reverse Lookup app on my phone has a much better ratio of providing information free of charge! Spokeo is nothing but a bait & switch scam!

My husband was looking for an old friend and he was charged $0.98 which is okay. A few days later we got charged with $25. They would never authorize to charge us this $25. When I look at the reviews, all the reviews of negative. My question is, why are this company, Spokeo, still in businesses. If I didn't check it, my account I would have never known they were taking money from my account.

I went onto Spokeo to find out details about an unknown number that had texted me a few weeks back. Google searches told me the number was in Oregon. Spokeo tried to get me to sign up for a 'free' membership by offering to charge $0.95 to give me the name of the person who had called. I paid them their full price $1.95 and the result they gave me was...the landline number is from Oregon!!! Big surprise...no name, no address, just a location on a map. Don't waste your time and money with these people.

I had wanted to check some things and saw Spokeo had great ratings. It’s untrue. I signed up and paid $22.86 and it said “Whoops, something happened”. I tried it several times with same result. I called to request a refund as I got NOTHING for payment. Supposedly they will do so; though I’m skeptical. I asked the CSR (who read her script kindly) how often this happened to which she said they were trying to figure it out. Keep your money. Not a good look to be able to receive money, assign user ID, & can’t do anything else!

This site couldn't even find my birth mother that is still alive who currently lives in the same house as me. She works and gets mail in her name there! We even have the same last name. I did not see where they were going to auto charge and they do not care that I am unsatisfied with the product. They got the money and I feel like they gave me the middle finger! The product is not as advertised and I feel that I should be refunded immediately! I gave it 1 star because it would not allow me to give it 0 stars! 7/9/2019

Spokeo promises to give you the info on the person you're looking for at an introductory price of $1.50. So I signed up. Nowhere did I see that if I didn't cancel my service within 7 days I'd be charged $24.95 a month, every month till I cancelled! The only time I was given that information was on my credit card payment receipt. Talk about deceptive marketing!

On 7/5/19, I looked at my checking account and saw a $24.95 charge from Spokeo. I have never heard of Spokeo until today, I have never visited their website, never signed up for a trial, and I would know if I had made a $25 purchase online. I can’t dispute the charge yet as it is pending. Oh, and also, somehow I have a $0.95 charge from them from a couple of weeks ago. Again, never visited this website.

I didn't have to put money in thanks to their 'research' on my old home that was foreclosed on. When I looked at how many lived at the house, it was correct, however even without showing first names the last people that lived there didn't all have the same last name. And if they would have searched for real everyone had mail coming to the house and three of us was in some type of school. Don't fall for it guys.

I only started a 7 free week trial and canceled before my free trial ended and they charged me $20. I called customer service and they said that they were not going to give me a refund. TOTAL FRAUDULENT SELLERS!!

Upon searching an email address Spokeo said, 'They found the email address'. After paying the $13.95 they produced a YouTube link to 'similar names'. Not the email address nor anything aligned with the email address. Upon contacting customer service they had all kinds of excuses why they might not find the exact details and how they look for 'close to' details. REALLY, if you don't find what I asked for then say so. A true bait and switch. They should be denied search rights if they are going to sell completely inaccurate data. Will definitely NEVER use them again.

I signed up for a one week trial on May 23. I canceled on May 29th, six days later. Spokeo tried to bill my charge card during the early hours of May 31 but my bank refused the charge. These guys are not honest. Don't do business with them.

What few addresses I found were incorrect. My phone number search found my name but had me in a city I have never lived in or around. The service is totally inaccurate and cannot be trusted. Also way too many popup ads.

I have no problem that it is a subscription service and expect payment for the service they offer, but it should not be done with deceptive methods. As an example, I needed to do an important search on someone who suspect scammed a family member and it was my first such use of Spokeo, so I was not yet registered. After the search process completed it gave the impression that results were found but to unlock those results I had to subscribe. After I registered and provided my CC info, and proceed to view the results it said "No results found for .." and then proceeded to show results for a similar email address (which were irrelevant). If there are no results this should be shown upfront, before requiring you to subscribe. This is a dishonest way to earn a living.

I contacted Spokeo.com asking them to remove my personal info from their website. To begin with, some of the information displayed were incorrect such as my age and relatives. Spokeo.com agreed to remove the info per my request, but to my dismay, my personal info was not removed, but rather, got changed to another location. I’m now listed under a Past Residents section of another one of my supposedly relatives. This person and I share the same common last name but we’re not related in any way. This company is fraudulent.

This company makes ZERO attempt to provide accurate information. Yet, they pose as a security company. In small, light grey text at the bottom of their site, they say they do not follow FCRA (fair credit reporting act) standards. So - WHAT are people paying for? This fraudulent website steals and extorts and should not be allowed to exist.

My name is Richard Harvey ** Sr., age 75 living in Tennessee. I reviewed some of the basic reports SPOKEO has on myself. I have never seen more inaccurate information put out as fact, where there is no basis for it. First example is my address: I do not live, nor have I ever lived in Bartlett, or Arlington Tennessee. They have incomplete information on employment, relatives, in short, it is a sloppy, thrown together pile of misinformation.
