The customer service representative I spoke with when I made my purchase was just absolutely wonderful! I was interested in the previous owners of my condo. And I was curious about what my neighbors paid for theirs. This service is wonderful and wonderfully affordable. I definitely recommend this service!

For what I needed Spokeo for the service was excellent and I don't think that they could have done a better job. Service is topnotch... I have used other companies in the past and this was by far the best. When I told them I needed to cancel they were all good with it.

Spokeo charged my Visa card $19.99 without my knowledge. I am very upset with them because that's not fair. They fooled people to click to agreed on being charged only $0.95 which I was. Agreed on it. Next things I know is $20 was taken by them. I am not happy at all. And now you guys sending me this. I feel very anger and not safe.

I signed up with a well-known dating service (my mistake). I kept getting what I found out to be bogus emails and lots of them. To make a long story short I reported them but the only thing the site seemed to be concerned with is what I might tell others that could possibly become customers. I was more concerned of the chance of international texting & email cost. We're talking two or three pages that I started compiling on paper. I've been in investigations for over 25 years, but recently retired. I don't have access to all the tools necessary to trace this stuff and didn't want to ask for help from ex-employers & friends. Your database could not help me.
I signed up with the trial membership but you couldn't obtain any info unless you were a full member, which I thought was BS. Anyway, the young lady that I spoke with at your company was very nice when I called and made sure I wasn't billed again, however the problem is still in progress. I've tracked people that have skipped to Pakistan and Europe with basic info and continue to do so with what I have to work with.

Don't remember the exact date of signing up for this service. I believe it was September 2014. I was only going to try it out and cancel before the trial week was up. Approximately 10-12 days after the sign-up, I remembered I hadn't called to cancel the service. I called and spoke to someone who, after hearing my explanation as to why I wanted to cancel, told me that since I didn't call until after the trial period was over, I would be charged for one month service. I agreed with that stipulation and the person confirmed that there would be no further charges forthcoming.
My wife usually checks our bank account on the internet and noticed the following month there was a similar charge of $25.95 to our account. I had told her beforehand that there wouldn't be any more charges coming through for this service as it had been canceled. She didn't know exactly what the account was for as it had a reference number beginning with "BP" which she thought was a reference to a gasoline purchase I had made. She didn't bring it to my attention until about 3 months ago. When I saw it and investigated as to what it was for, that's when I realized that the person I spoke with to cancel the service had apparently failed to follow through with the cancellation.
Naturally, we were both upset that we had been victimized by someone's carelessness for somewhere around $300.00 which we could have used for other expenses. We are both elderly and not rich by any stretch of the imagination and we hoped we might get a full restitution because we were duped by someone not doing their job correctly. I admit that I was not diligent enough in following through myself by checking those unwarranted charges, but I believed that the person I talked to would fulfill his obligation to do what I was told and there would be no more charges.

I didn't have any luck with your service, and I'm not faulting you for that, but what really turned me sour to Spokeo was when I cancelled the service before the trial was up I was still being billed by you for another 7 months. Luckily I noticed it and called it in. The woman was pleasant and courteous and apologized for the error. Maybe in the the future you could have better customer service.

Signs you up without you knowing about until you get the deduction. You think you are paying 0.95 but real bill 29.99.

I used your service to look-up an unrecognized phone number and the website offered a one time charge. I made sure it was a one-time charge, however, there's apparently verbiage that required a monthly charge. I went to your website and looked up a person. You said that you found about six things on her. After I had to pay to find out what information you had on her; it turned out that you had nothing on her. You are running just as big a scam as the person that I was trying to find out about.

Absolutely worthless. I paid for service and tried searching an email address with 0 results. Tried looking up an old friend to get his phone number. I had his current address but both numbers they gave me were no good. What good is this service if the only information they can find is the info that's easy to find anyway? Absolutely worthless. Don't waste your money. I cancelled right away. What a ** joke.

Just realized that this company has been pulling money out of my account since 2013. I had cancelled this service in the trial period. They said there were 2 accounts and 1 cancelled so they could refund me 59. Over 2 yrs of unauthorized charges and that's all!!

I signed up for the .95 cent trial to look up one number and the number I looked up didn't give me any of the information I wanted. A week later, I noticed a $19.95 subscription charge. I called them to dispute the charge letting them know I did not want a subscription as I thought it was a one time charge of .95 cent only and the agent tried to only refund me half of my money back. I told her absolutely not, I want all of my money and that I was going to write a review of the service online letting folks know of my experience with them.
She went to speak with a supervisor (I'm certain she just put me on hold as they probably get this call often and want to try and intimidate poor people first) and returned to give me a full refund. If they were smart, they'd figure out they could make more money by charging the one time fee for ACCURATE INFORMATION. That way, they wouldn't need customer service reps to field all the calls demanding a refund for the subscription service they try and sneak past you.

I subscribed for a 3 month trial Spokeo people search subscription for 14.85. Spokeo happily takes on board subscribers outside the USA but omit to mention on their website it services the USA only. So, the service is fully useless outside the USA. I got billed another 19.95. After asking, I was informed this is for a Spokeo connection subscription. No idea what it is, that I applied for it, and I did not receive a confirmation of this 'subscription' either. No idea either Spokeo would renew automatically the 3 month trial, according to their customer service "as to not disrupt services." Right. I subscribed for a 3 month trial. If I did not want my services to disrupt I would have subscribed for a longer period. Not happy at all with Spokeo.

I requested a background search with a $0.95 7-day trial subscription. I subsequently cancelled the trial account. Five months later, I realized I had been charged a monthly subscription fee. I called 1-877-913-3088 and spoke with Thomas. He looked up the account, and saw I had been enrolled in their Friends account, as well, unknown to me. He said it should have been cancelled at the time of the original cancellation, and I should receive a full refund for all five months charged in at most seven calendar days, which will be 12/23/2015. He gave me a cancellation confirmation number, and I just noticed I have already received a confirmation e-mail. The whole procedure was quick and professionally handled.

I have been using your service for several years. The service is ok, but my experience is that in the past it was better and less expensive. Originally, I was able to pay a set fee for all of the searches. Now there are individual fees for each services, they expire at different times, and it seems as if every time I try to use it, I have to pay another fee.

The Spokeo service met my expectations. However, I was caught by surprise when the second renewal fee appeared three months after my initial use. As a result, I called to cancel the automated renewal and the customer representative was very respectable, courteous and helpful addressing my request.

Just had a terrible experience with customer service. I used this company once in September to identify a caller, which by the way the search didn't even end up working. I called customer service that day to ensure that I would not be billed for this call to which they said I would not be charged for my seven-day trial. Went through my bank statement today and I have accumulated 60 dollars worth of charges! As a college student, 60 dollars amounts to a lot. I was refused a refund and I could not be more infuriated.

Problem is they both said I can't be refunded but since it is prepaid I still have access. Well I didn't get any information at all on the phone number I was inquiring about. I used this service as one time trying that they claim only costs $.95 cents. Then I logged in onto my credit account, I saw that they charge me $19.95 besides $.95 charge. I called and was told it was the membership charge because I didn't cancel my account after a week. The service doesn't provide any useful information and this company is not honorable.

I had used Spokeo once before in the past when they first started and was pleased with the results. But now they just take your money. If you see information available (Name, Address etc) you are lead to believe it will have the name, address and information you are paying for... Instead you will get a report that will simply say "unknown" by name, address etc! Bottom line is it may only be a $1.95 fee but you will not have more information after you pay than before you started. So use with caution!

I cancelled my Spokeo service in December 2014—Spokeo is still charging my credit card twice per month! I have made multiple calls. Customer service sounds neutral on the phone at best. Worst, they apparently never follow through. I need a serious refund and no more charges. Not sure if I was ever given an order number. To my detriment, I believed they would be honest. I used the Spokeo service to search for myself--just out of curiosity. I was expecting to see the .95 cent advertised charge to my bank card--no problem. A few days later they charged another $19.95 to my bank card without my authorization--problem. Funny thing is, they sent an email receipt for the .95, but not for the $19.95--very sneaky of you Spokeo. I immediately contacted them via their online customer support form--still waiting for a reply, or at least some kind of auto-generated or human response acknowledging receipt of my complaint. A couple of days later and still nada. In my over 20 years online I've never, ever been the victim of internet scammers. Way-to-go Spokeo. You broke my greater than 20 year streak of avoiding online scams. Now can I have my money back. Yeach, you're worse than AOL.

I tried using Spokeo several times and NEVER! NEVER EVER it showed to me the true info. Right now I made a search for a phone # which was used by this owner for more than 10 years already. Spokeo still shows some person on it who probably owned it long ago. Very outdated and very limited info. I was searching people with emails and phone numbers and every time it's just a bs! As another great example: I was searching for an email of my husband which he is using for almost 15 years already. It showed him as a female with some weird and not anyhow related name even though his email is set up with his real name as he is using it for business. Totally wrong all info about him. I will never waste even a cent on this site and don't recommend anyone to do so. You can't trust what you find here.

Yesterday I used Spokeo because I could not find my cell phone. I did not know if it was lost or stolen so I used my search engine with the words "find iphone." This service supposedly located my phone in a nearby town so I assumed it had been stolen. A full address was not provided. At that point, my husband called our cell phone provider and cancelled my iphone service. The next morning I found my phone in my home, where it had obviously been all of the time. I had to have my husband call our cell phone provider to restore my service. Spokeo send me a message enrolling me in some kind of program costing $19.95. They better cancel it!

So let's start at the beginning. A couple of weeks ago a friend of mine needed some information on someone so I went on this site and paid about one dollar for the search. The search provided me no extra information than what the free information provided. That's not the bad part though. About a week later I found a 20 dollar charge from Spokeo on my bank account. I immediately contacted support requesting a refund and asking what this charge was about. Apparently when I paid one dollar for that one search the site also signed me up for a monthly 20 dollar subscription. It did not clearly state that I was signing up for a subscription and I did not want or need the subscription, not to mention that I could not afford it. Simple, just ask for a refund right? WRONG they told me that they could not issue a refund because I gave my consent and it was an auto payment.
This started to anger me very much. It BARELY told me that I was signing up. If it did I would have canceled it. I've seen sites do that before, kind of a way of tricking the consumer. However, any other sites would have refunded me but not Spokeo. They refused to refund me. The charge was even still processing when I contacted them. I understand that if I physically gave my consent to sign up then it is my fault. But I did not want the subscription and if it was explained that I was signing up at all then it was probably some fine print at the bottom of the page. Even so, I should have received a refund and I am extremely upset with this entire situation. Not to mention the customer support took 3 days to respond (estimated 1-2 days). I will never do business with Spokeo again and would advise that anyone else follow. This whole site is absolutely horrible and I don't want anyone else losing their hard earned money to this scam of a site.

What was a one time use charge has turned into hundreds of dollars of fraudulent unauthorized charges. This seems to be a recurring complaint of Spokeo. The information was very limited to begin with. Do not use this company as they will abuse your credit card. To me this is fraud.

Spokeo is a service worth having in terms of looking up key people and places. I have praise for this site and the customer service team is helpful in more ways than just one. However, I do not like the fact that there are limits on how many people and addresses to look up monthly compared to the unlimited account I had back in 2013. But this is the only flaw of Spokeo and it can be reverted back to having more monthly searches sometime in the future. Great service and helpful advice from customer service so I would recommend to a friend anytime! Keep up the fine work Spokeo!

They have big ads that say reverse number look up for free. Then when you click on the ad, you need to pay for the reverse ad look up. Very clear that the ad is offering for free, very clear that you have to pay!

Many thanks to Spokeo for their efforts to rectify an unsatisfactory situation. I recognize that these efforts have been bona fide, and congratulate them for these: if Spokeo is serious as a company, it is necessary that it does so.
In their response to me, Blake **, a Spokeo VP, states "Unfortunately, because the trial was not cancelled within 30 days, a recurring subscription began to charge." This is not acceptable or ethical practice, and it is important that Spokeo discontinues this immediately. Anything that leads to double charging is unacceptable, particularly if it follows as a consequence of not cancelling a "free" trial.
I have received different explanations and have heard of different schemes. Spokeo needs to simplify and sort it out. It is clear from Twitter that my experience is not unique. And yet, I am an everyday consumer of many web services. I'm not naive, but do expect the companies that make the products I buy online to behave ethically.
Spokeo's refund of 12 months of credit card charges that I did not agree to indicates that they understand this. To be fair, it only took a few rounds of exchanges to secure this. Many thanks to Blake and April for their efforts.

I subscribed to Spokeo in October 2014. Search results were mediocre, but as I had signed up for a service costing around USD 5 a month, I wasn't too concerned. Realized only recently that I was being billed twice. Once monthly, at USD 18.95 and once quarterly USD at 14.95. I only signed up for the latter. There is no evidence of the monthly charge being confirmed by email or by any other mode. I accept that I need to check my credit card statements and should have done so earlier. Like many people, my credit card statements have numerous small charges every month and I hadn't been checking regularly. But my lack of attentiveness doesn't excuse the double billing, which I absolute did not agree to.
I am presently trying to secure a full refund of the monthly payments. A quick search on Twitter suggests that this experience is common to many customers. I am not suggesting that this is a scam. I do, however, strongly believe that such behavior is unethical. If Spokeo are interested in staying in business, they need to ensure that customers such as myself receive full refunds, and that this billing practice is discontinued immediately. With Apple, I get a notification by email every single time a charge is made to my credit card. Many charges are just USD 0.99. But the email alerts me to the fact that a charge is being made and allows me to mentally verify that I made that purchase. In addition to the full refund of monthly payments that I expect, I sincerely hope that Spokeo consider implementing automated email alerts.

I wanted to see if my stalker had a criminal background, so I paid my $20 to join. Looked up the stalker, was given a few details that I already knew from doing a Google search, such as address, spouse's name, and email addresses that I already knew. When I try to check criminal history, Spokeo informs me that I needed to cough up another $5 for a month's service. I pay, and search for her criminal history. Nothing shows up. I know that the stalker's husband has a criminal history, so I do a search on him. Nothing shows up. I search several more people who I know have criminal backgrounds. Nothing shows up.
I do a search on myself. I have never been arrested, so thankfully, nothing showed up, but all of my other background information was incorrect. If Google can provide simple information correctly for FREE, why can't Spokeo? And then I get a pop up saying that I had used up my twenty searches. TWENTY? Spokeo then asked me for more money to increase the number of names I could search. Why didn't they inform me up front that there was a limit? WHAT A RIP OFF!!!

I signed up for this service and didn't realize it was a monthly charge. I used it once and it took me three statements before I was able to get the service successfully removed from my credit card. My one time look up of one address cost me over $75.00! If you want the service, fine, just be careful with the payments and monitor your credit card statements very carefully!

When I checked someone on Spokeo, a banner appeared over the profile "Suspect in question" implying there was something in their background. I tried others with the same result. And of course, the subscription prices just underneath. Later, I checked with a different browser and got a more benign page but it is obvious, this site is inciting suspicion of innocent people to sell subscriptions.

In my opinion, this company is a total scam. I signed up for 1 search and my search did not yield ANY useful information. So, I cancelled my "trial" membership because it was useless. I selected the "did not find what I was looking for" option and went to the next page. The website confirmed that my membership had been cancelled in a green box and then 1 week later, I was charged the full $19.99 price. Then, I cancelled it AGAIN. It was the EXACT same process. Had I known, I would have taken a screen shot.
When I called Customer Service, the representative admitted that people had called with this complaint before, but that she just didn't know what had happened and couldn't refund my money. Also, no IT department to speak of. Then, she hung up on me. Make sure you get a confirmation email that your membership has been cancelled. There is something very fishy going on with this. What is also weird is the regular 1 month member is $13.95, but the "free trial" for one week and "then we got you when you think you have cancelled membership" is $19.99.

I wish I could leave 0 stars. In late July I signed up for the 7-day trial. A friend of mine's daughter was talking to this "14" yr old boy online but her mother had doubts. I used the service to find out the true identity of this "boy." Come to find out it was a 24-year old man! So, as far as the usage of this service, I did find out what I set out to find out. So I would give them 4 stars in that department, if only they weren't such thieves! Now on to my complaint...
As soon as I found out what I needed to know I canceled my account online, less than an hour later. There is a section in your "account and usage" part where you can do so. On the bottom it stated "You are currently billed $0.00 every 1 month." I'm thinking, great, accomplished what I needed to and will not be billed anymore. 30 days later, not 7 (which would have made sense since it was a 7-day trial I originally signed up for) I am billed $9.95. I check my account again, it shows the last date of payment, but again underneath that is states, "You are currently billed $0.00 every 1 month."
How does 0.00 turn into 9.95? So I email the billing department. I get no response, so I contact them again about 10 days later. No response, I assume it was handled because my account states, "You are currently billed $0.00 every 1 month." However, 30 days later they steal another $9.95 from my account. Again I contact the billing department and again I check my account, "You are currently billed $0.00 every 1 month." Really? I am? That's why my checking account is $9.95 smaller every month?
The service offered by this company does what it says it will. I see some people can't find what they are looking for, but you need some base to start your search, phone number, cell number, old address, something. If you try to search with nothing it will be harder. But I warn you, if you are trying to just get a quick search you will be haunted by this company forever if you are not diligent in checking whatever account you use when you sign up. It seems to be impossible to cancel the account even if the computer tells you "You are currently billed $0.00 every 1 month." They lie. Seems like they count on us being too busy to check our checking accounts.
I am currently working on getting my stolen money back or at least stop the ongoing theft, but based on other reviews I have read, I am not holding my breath. It is now in the hands of the BBB. I may have to contact other agencies or go to the trouble of changing my checking account to stop this (which will cost me more money). What a pain the in **!!! Use this site with extreme caution! They will steal from you and make it almost impossible to stop it!

I would like to explain to everyone in the world how to use Spokeo and all the other sites like them on the net so you don't experience what almost everyone on this site has, which is being ripped off totally by these nearly useless people search info sites. I have a lot of experience using the likes of Spokeo, been verified, people search USA etc. First, most of the info is very outdated - like by almost 2-3 years! And a lot of the info is just plain inaccurate, but every now and again they have useful information that is accurate. They all have the same M.O or business model, get a free or $1 trial period of 5 to 7 days. However if you don't cancel, and they make the process to cancel almost impossible because even if you follow their instructions to the letter, they keep charging you and just hang their hat on "we have no proof you canceled". How convenient for them.
So this is what you do: Never give them your credit card or bank acct debit card. What you use is a prepaid debit card that you are going to basically throw away after you use it on 1 or 2 sites within a couple of weeks of one another or even less time. Forex. I had a Greendot card, I bought at Wal-Mart. I loaded it with $20, I spent the first $17 on gas, leaves $3 on the card. In the next week or so I go to Spokeo, been verified and one other loser ripoff people or phone number search sites. I sign up for the $1 trial for a week on all 3 sites. I now use these sites for as much research as possible or that I need and then I just forget about 'em. Don't even bother canceling. They then spend the next 9-10 or 11 months trying to get their 19.95 out of a rock. It's a prepaid debit card that is at the municipal dump. They eventually give up. I hope it breaks their heart that their rip-off ways aren't working.
Folks there must be 40 different prepaid cards out in the marketplace. They do not report to the 3 major credit reporting agencies, so the fact you may or may not have a neg bal does not affect you. If you must have 1 or 2 of the prepaid cards, establish them, don't ever use them on these sites we are speaking of. BTW, the prepaid cards are also a major ripoff but that is another story/Review for another time and place. The moral of the story is do not under any circumstance give them the ability to charge a real CC of yours or your real bank acct debit card because they will dip into your pocket and steal your money with seemingly no consequences. Where is the consumer protection agency when you have story after story after story of the exact same words? Wtf. These companies have a license to steal it seems, so fight fire with fire. ** 'em!!!

Much like other complaints, I requested a $.95 name search. I use the internet for shopping and so make sure to read on before I use a service of any sort. Well needless to say I say a $19.95 charge appear on my bill. I called and asked that they remove the charge. The CSR was very polite, but couldn't. I pressed because I object the doing business with a company that feels that a good way to make money is through obfuscation and subterfuge. I don't want to support it. This is hostage taking in the financial sense. The best he could do is offer a $7.00 refund. Buyer beware!!

I am attaching two consecutive and self explanatory photos of what you can expect from "SPOKEO." This service is literally **. I have done a number of legitimate searches and had few or no results. I have spent up to $120 on their services simply out of trial and error. At first I figured maybe I wasn't typing in the correct address, then I moved on to other possibilities such as; address, name, email etc etc... It's $10 for single search and a ** "Offer" for 4.95 a month of up to 100 email searches. Then it says you will be billed 24.95 a month. <-- still haven't figure that one out. All that said, don't waste your time... it's a load of ...

I am Guardian to my disabled sister who has severe psychological and physiological impairments, and the first time she ever used a computer she immediately became addicted, a vulnerable person, and a person who is very easily taken advantage of on social media, which also became her life online. Since our mother's death, I am now her Legal Guardian/Conservator and have a tremendous responsibility to keep her safe. So, I came to Spokeo to find all of the Social Media Accounts where she has an account. I used Spokeo due to them being the only "people search" site that also advertised searches for Social Media Accounts. Once you give the name and city or state, at first they make you believe that you will find your person you are researching ON 63+ sites & suddenly Spokeo changes its wording to "we are checking 63+ Media Sites".
Well, as you can guess, it came up with ZERO sites and I sit here knowing full well that my sister is on at least 35+ Soc Media Sites with the same name being used every time. Here is the huge rip off and problem; If they do not find her on the first try, you must use a **number of other methods of spellings of her name, try changing the cities that she has lived in, which for my sister, is only ONE address her entire life, until the passing of our mother, in Nov 2014. The Rip Off - they charge you $7.95 for every single search on the same person for Social Media Accounts. At the end of the day SPOKEO does not deliver what they promise, or what you expect them to deliver due to the wording on their site. I know, for a fact, that my sister has over 35 accounts on Soc. Media, but I need to dig deeper and Spokeo was no help whatsoever.
I must say that they do warn you, on their site, that they "sometimes cannot find a person on the first search", which actually makes me want to try again! Then there is the "Free 7 Day Trial Period" which, either states or makes you feel as if they will not charge your credit/debit card for your first 7 day trial period, but my husband called me this morning (9/28/15), after I had just began the search last night (9/27/15), and asked if I had used Spokeo! That is an outright and blatant use of false advertisement. I cancelled my account this morning. The consequences are this; My husband had to stop his board meeting to ask me if I had used Spokeo, as we just had three tried at his identity being stolen.
The biggest consequence is, my trust in these sites who proclaim to be the best and not a rip off, and that I must be able to find out what my sister is doing online, who she is talking to, who is trying to take advantage of her, & I will stop there for the last consequence to her online activities, carried a "no less than" 30 yr prison sentence according to the - Vulnerable Person's Act of The State of Mississippi.
Lastly, there is nowhere in my account on Spokeo that admits I was given a 7 day free trial, now. I am a very intelligent girl, and I usually do not fall for the trumped up type of sites, but when the situation involved the abuse of a family member, (not by Spokeo!!) especially one who, legally, cannot speak for themselves, perhaps my judgement gets clouded. I will never again fall for this site, nor will I refer family friends, and not even my worst enemy.
Updated on 10/22/2015: I have posted a detailed review, they responded with ridiculous legalese and verbiage. I responded back, making my case even stronger. Suddenly I see that Spokeo, who has already been fined at least 800,000 dollars (just Google it, it's all there) has sent all of us who wrote a review regarding their service on Consumer Affairs, a ridiculous form letter, stating someone will assist us shortly, but we cannot answer back. This is beyond ridiculous! I want my money refunded so I will move on to the Better Business Bureau. If I must, my attorney would love a class action suit such as this, not a joke, have one on retainer, and would put out his name if it weren't against the rules. This is not right. It is not good business practices at all and Spokeo needs to be reprimanded!

I called them and they said it wasn`t publicly available hence they did not have it. I said "if it WAS publicly available I wouldn`t have needed you guys! You owe me $1.95." They said blah blah blah. I paid the $.95 for the one inquiry BUT did not realize that I had 7 days to cancel the service. I was charged $19.95 for continuing service, which I do not want or need. Run, don't walk away from this company. I called, requested my $19.95 refund and received a song and dance about how they couldn't, more like wouldn't. The ONLY thing I am grateful for is that this was caught before more money was stolen from my account. How do these people sleep at night?

I was looking for the owner of a phone number I was getting call from and used the "free trial" week and paid 95 cents. 3 months later I find out I'm paying for a monthly subscription I never asked for or I never used. They deduct it from my checking account. This is a scam!! End the service? Just to tell me that the owner of that phone is subscribed to a phone company in LA!!! I never click on charge my card, or agreed to a subscription. Thieves, that all they are!!

Like all the other reviewers, I never opened an account with this company and yet was receiving monthly automatic bills from them. A warning - it is very hard to close an account you never opened. I'm guessing that Spokeo's business is less about facilitating "searches" and more about fraudulent charges.

Signed up for a $.95 search in June 2015. I receive my credit card bill via email but usually just pay it off monthly because I have small balances. Noticed more than I thought should be on there this time so I checked statements and Spokeo billed me for 2 separate 'subscriptions' I didn't subscribe to in July, August, and September. 3 charges of $17.95 and 3 charges of $19.95 - without any e-mail notifications or any correspondence period. When you email them (which I did on the 9th and their email says they will contact you within 24 hours) you get no response. It is a rip off - don't waste your time. Don't give them any information or you will be billed.

I contacted Spokeo asking to close my account, as I have never requested that such account be opened in the first place. I was annoyed to see an auto payment coming out of my bank account when I did not ask for this service. This is surely a scam. I have not heard back from them yet.

Did an email search on someone after finding some emails from a dating site had their email address and user name paid for Spokeo. Got nothing but (Picasa) as a site this person is linked to. So they do nothing. They tell you nothing. You don't already know. When I went to cancel he said the reason I couldn't find out more info on the person was because it doesn't work off their EMAIL?? WHAT?? It's an EMAIL SEARCH so confused but true waste of time and money. Cancelled after reading some other complaints. We'll see how that goes!!

In November 2014 I contacted Spokeo via phone asking to close my account, as I have never requested that such account be opened in the first place. Spokeo's customer care representative agreed and promised that charges are going to be refunded and my account will be closed. In October 2014 I was using a one time name search. The search produced no results and was completely useless. Since then Spokeo not only hasn't stopped single monthly charges of $19.95 but also added another monthly charge of $18.95 on top of it, totaling $38.95 USD/month. This precedence was going on unchecked for 9 month and cost me $332.10 USD or $423.79 Canadian Dollars.
Right after my August 14 2015 telephone complaint, all nine bi-monthly charges that started in November 2014 ($423.79 CND) were refunded to my credit card. The refund was followed by 18 e-mails received from Spokeo confirming each monthly charge refund. On top of it, Spokeo has issued two e-mails confirming "Subscription Cancellation" of one plan named "Connections", and the other one for cancellation of an "Unnamed" plan. It bears a question - what that "unnamed" plan was...? I hope that Spokeo won't try to charge me again in a future. I will watch my MC charges very carefully now. In my opinion Spokeo's practices are predatory and should be stopped. Just wonder that organization like this one can still legally operates.

Spokeo has to be the biggest scam that people don't know about. I'm traveling to a different city that I don't know and met someone online to room with. I wanted to do a check on them to make sure everything was good. Spokeo misrepresents their membership thinking that you can do a one month membership and pay under $5. When I signed up it said I was only billed the $4.95 and I checked my account information to make sure there weren't hidden charges, but everything seemed to check out fine. Then a few weeks after that I just come to find out my card was charged $30 for a "premium membership", to which I was not made aware of that I was signing up for. On top of that, how am I supposedly signed up as a premium member but couldn't do a reverse phone or email search, which was reserved for premium members, but I'm still being charged as a premium member.
As soon as I saw this charge I go to cancel my membership. The option that I chose for why I was canceling was "I was unaware I was signed up", meaning that Spokeo has this problem very frequently, but doesn't do anything about it. Additionally, I will not be refunded my money because I will still have access to my supposed premium membership (that only includes name search) for the next 6 months. That's how they get you, you think you've signed up for one month, then they charge you for six months when you don't expect it and by the time you cancel, it doesn't even matter since you've been charged for six months. The worst of it was that all the information I found seemed to be wrong or outdated, so a lot of what I found in my search was useless. Overall, just stay away from Spokeo. They're seriously playing some dirty games with payments and it's not worth it.

I gave them more info than they gave me. IE name, town etc. after asking credit card, blood type and mother's maiden name. They listed ALL persons in US named Roy **. Took a while to get to Virginia but they produced an image of him and said he lived in Erie Pa. I know his Mom lives there so ok but where now?? Next day I tried again. Now had Staunton Va and Fishersville. Both of which he has resided but no employment, no relatives nada. So I went to at extra charge court records, more money, no info then a thank you for using them and that they were charging me $49.95. Quite a bit more than the $4.95 they quoted. I called the number on receipt and had to go get card and they had hung up. So do not recommend ever for search..

I signed up for a one time search for a license plate and made sure it was for a one time search. I specifically did not accept their offer for a 30 day trial at $19.95. Guess what... they went ahead and charged me $19.95 even though I declined the trial offer! Their scam is to hope that people don't closely monitor their credit card accounts so they can beat unsuspecting consumers out of $19.95. I am sure that a lot of people have been scammed by this tactic. I did send them an email requesting that this charge be reversed and although their website said they would respond within 24 hours, it has been 4 days with no response. STAY AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE!!!

3 months ago I signed up in this website and every time I searched about someone, I could never find anything and they kept on charging my debit card. Don't put your credit card information in this website. They gonna double charge your credit card. Plus this website is useless.

I looked up my home information and some of the neighbors home information on Spokeo and they don't have anything right. They have the builder of our homes as Stanley Martin when they are in fact Pulte. They have several other owners listed for my home and my husband and I bought it new construction and have been the only owners...This and many other discrepancies. The problem with this is the invalid information they pass out is harmful when trying to sell a home.

I signed up to do a reverse lookup on a phone number with the $0.95 trial. The reverse lookup offered no additional information so I immediately cancelled my subscription per instructions and received a cancellation confirmation email. Two months later I see a $9.95/month charge on my credit card bill. Their customer service tells me that when I signed up for the reverse phone look up I also signed up for a 30 day free trial for their Social Media locator also (which I don't recall signing up for, nor was there ever a confirmation email for that service). Apparently that trial needs to be cancelled separately from the reverse phone look up trial. When I requested a refund for the charges I was offered $3.98/month refund for the 2 months I was charged. They got $12 from me for doing nothing.

I joined on the .95 trial period to look up one phone number I couldn't locate. My account was debited the .95. I did a reverse search and got no more information than I already had. So, I IMMEDIATELY wrote to cancel. The next month, I find I am charged $19.95 on my checking account. I called the number on my statement and found out it was Spokeo. The Customer Service agent said they "have no record of my email for cancellation" although I had the email in my outbox and read it to her. Then she asked if I had ever received an email confirming my account had been cancelled, and I hadn't. So, bottom line: She would only refund my account $8 and acted as if it was MY fault. Would NEVER use this service again. Total Rip Off.

I made a single purchase for a 1 time search for $.95 in April 2015. They have been charging my credit card $19.95 ever since. I honestly missed the first charge. I called to complain last month, that I did not order a monthly subscription and was assured that they would cancel, although they refused to refund the charge for the service that I did not order. They are still charging me for this. These people are thieves. Do not use their service.

Their reverse phone services do not work. They sign you up for monthly service without telling you. It is impossible to cancel the service, your only option is to cancel the credit card number you used and have it re-issued. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!

I had an incoming phone call on my cell that I didn't recognize so I did the reverse search, saw Spokeo, and agreed to a 99 cent charge for finding out who called me. I had no idea that they would start charging me 19.95 a month indefinitely. I am busy - I subscribe to a lot of online services legitimately, and appreciate them, so I never picked up on it until today -- a year later I wondered "What is this Spokeo charge on my VISA about?" Turns out I have paid $240 for looking up that one number!!! So I went to their website to cancel and complain and the cancellation process is purposefully obscured. I called and complained and they refunded me only half of that. Said they were not in the wrong. So yeah -BEWARE!!! NEVER USE SPOKEO. Predatory and misleading.

Due to a long period of sickness I hadn't checked it until today July 20/15. To my surprise there were 4x charges of 18.38, 25.56, 19.15 and 19.15 in January from SPOKEO, coincidental with my stay in hospital. It remains to be determined how they got hold of the credit card number? Since I didn't give it to them and I am the only user of the particular credit card, this has the odor of credit fraud.

Spokeo is one of the worst companies out there. I did look up one number on the program, thinking it was free. Since then they have really been ripping me off. I had so many charges that the bank called me about it and I immediately got a new card. I have no idea where they got my credit card number. I never used it on their site. Now I'm going to have to get another credit card number. This company needs to be shut down. I'm sure lots of old people are being ripped off and never check their bank statement. I'm so thankful I checked mine. Very Angry.

I cancelled my subscription to Spokeo within the last two months or so. When I cancelled, I assumed that all of my subscriptions were cancelled at the same time. They weren't. When I checked my bank account I found that Spokeo was still charging me for a "Friends" subscription. When I cancelled, I was led to believe that everything was cancelled. My bank account might go into the negative because of this deception. When I contacted them, I was told that I had that "Friends" subscription - that I never used. I cancelled it today but I am very angry now.

I cancelled my subscription to Spokeo on March 19, 2015 and have a confirmation that it would be cancelled IN ITS ENTIRETY. Their language, not mine. I discovered I have been charged $18.95 every month since then. I called customer service and she said I was being charged for a trial subscription to "Friends". I don't even know what this is and certainly did not sign up for it. She said it was part of my subscription. When I reminded her that I had cancelled and demanded a refund, she said they would cancel the subscription. DUH!!! I already did that. She said they would refund for June, but not the other months. I am demanded they refund it all. Stealing is a crime, the last time I checked. Be smart! Stay away from this company. My husband is an attorney so he can handle this.

They are scams!!! Please don't use! Shame on you 411.ca for affiliating with this company. I tried a reverse search on a number (on the site it showed that all the information I required was there, after payment every item had not found beside). It was useless and on top of that, now I am charged 25.44 on my credit card!!! WTF!!! There was no transparency on the site and I hope that others don't fall prey to these guys!!! Please, please don't use them!

I spent $.95 in order to find out who was continually calling my cell number. Nowhere was it visibly noted on their website that I was going to have a recurring charge of $19.95 place on my credit card (for nothing, as I never used the service again). When I realized the repeat charge (now 5 months into it) they refused to refund any money despite the fact I never used the service again.

I did a reverse phone lookup. They say they found out the info and show a whole lot of data, all blurred. After I paid about $2 there was nothing but a city and state. Then I paid $2 for an email lookup that had a lot of blurred data. After I paid, nothing came up. I tried to cancel based on their 100% satisfaction guarantee. It was ridiculous and it would take an hour. I paid full price to PASS on the membership prices so I wouldn't get signed in and billed. They STILL say I am going to be billed unless I cancel. This site should be put out of business. It's a major corrupt scam. Wish I didn't have to give it a star to rate it!

While I did use a Spokeo search years ago (one of the $.95 ones), I do NOT have a subscription or current account, nor do I want or would I ever want one. Nor do I do a recent search using the service. While scanning my credit card transactions on my statement, I noticed a line item for $29.40, which I NEVER authorized. I would NEVER use this company again and am currently working with my credit card company to get the charge removed as disputed. I tried calling the 800 number listed on the transaction, but it is never answered, just a recording. This company must make a business out of fraudulent transactions.

There's no fool like an old fool. How can I have been so stupid? I paid, as I thought $0.99c for a one-off telephone number search. Just checked my bank account today to find that I have been signed up without my knowledge to a monthly subscription of $19.95. I have tried to contact Spokeo by email without success to query the matter. I'm not so sure that I ever will. It seems that there's always someone out there clever enough to come up with a scheme to part ordinary, decent unsuspecting people from their money. Nice work if you can get it. I wish I had read the reviews before I put my foot in their trap. Do not be taken in by this scam.

Information promised was misleading and unavailable. The 100% satisfaction money back promise is a scam. They flatly refused to credit back the cost of the search that provided NO information! It was only .95 but if they can scam a million people look what they have made! THIS COMPANY IS A COMPLETE FRAUD AND LIE! DON'T GET TAKEN LIKE I DID!

I used once and expected to pay. That happened BUT now I can't get them to cancel my membership. I WARN YOU. DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THIS COMPANY. YOU WILL REGRET IT. You just can't contact them and communication via email is ignored. They keep billing me monthly on my credit card, and I can't get them to stop. Spokeo will not listen to you. This site should be taken down! I signed up for it with a 30 day trial and one week later they charged me and won't give me my money. How can they charge me for something I had 30 days to decided if I wanted it. Pretty sad that's how they make their money by ripping off hard working Americans. Don't use this site!!

I went online for one person's address. They charged for a month but said I could cancel right away - no charge. The address they gave me was old. I cancelled then. I was chgd 17.95 anyway because they told me I had signed up for a social media svc!

Who would really pay 19.95 a month so they could look up someone's phone number? This company preys on all of us that are too busy and have multiple card users not looking carefully at their credit card bills. I admit, I am an idiot for not immediately checking this item on my statement. I filed the bills away thinking "oh that must be for ...", "I will check next month." Finally, I sat down and made the call. I never remember signing up for this. Once I tried to locate someone and thought I was paying $7. What a scam!!! Funny how quickly they cancelled my "subscription"!! It is their standard business practice. NEVER use this company!!! I learned the hard way. Hopefully I won't be so stupid next time.

Spokeo has an advertisement stated they can search social media sites for specific email addresses. I entered one in the free search engine. The result was 17 hits. To see the results it was $15 for a monthly subscription. I paid the money, and all of a sudden, there were no results for that address. So, I tried my own email address..... nothing. I know what social media sites I'm on. It didn't even show one.

Clicked free for 7 days and then automatic re occurring charge of $21.00 per month. Discovered after 3 months and could not get refund. Need to read the fine print. I would not recommend this site to anyone who is looking and searching for a phone number.

When searching for information on a phone number I came across Spokeo. Their website showed that they had the name of the person who owns the number but it was blurred and the ad said "see results with a trial membership." So I signed up and once my card was processed I was shown that they had no information. I then called customer service who just gave me some double talk and said that they wouldn't charge anymore but would not refund my money. Lucky it was only .95.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! I signed up for a one time service I needed and then cancelled. Spokeo continued to charge my cc. After speaking to customer service I was told that by registering my account other services (Friends of Spokeo Services) were attached but not all were not cancelled. I requested a refund and the rep said that could not be done and could not give a reason, even though I am sure they could tell that the account had not been used except for the initial inquiry. After asking to speak to a supervisor, I was told they could refund my cc only $7.00... Really after charging 3 times that amount. Such a rip off.

I used them for one account for a charge of less than $2.00. Without further notice they then began charging my credit card for $27.85 a month. When I finally realized what they were doing, I called to challenge the charges. A very nice rep explained they could only reimburse my credit card for 1/2 of the 4 months of charges. When I became pretty aggressive, she told me they just were not able to do full reimbursement. When I pushed harder, she said she would talk to a supervisor. After being on hold for only a couple of minutes, she returned and agreed to reimburse the entire amount. Caution - they are not as upfront as they should be on their practice of charging your credit card even though you are not using their service.

They charge me over $70 in monthly fees when I was only aware of a $.95 trial. It's ridiculous. When I asked to be refunded I was only given $30. Terrible. If you don't cancel the trial within one week they charge you monthly, as well as some friends fee, that was not mentioned in the beginning.

Spokeo was charging me for services I did not request. I stopped the charge on my credit card for one of the "accidental" accounts, and they blocked my access to a subscription that was paid 6 months in advance. I called and emailed them to no avail. They are crooks.

10 days ago I signed up to Spokeo and paid $14.85. All I wanted was to pin down who owned an email address. Their system suggested they had a result. So I paid. Then I discovered that everything is an add-on. So that $14.85 pays for nothing at all. But it is deliberately made to confuse users too. I complained. Several times. CS took a week to reply and then didn't offer to solve the problem. I don't trust them. I wouldn't trust them not to keep taking money from my account. They are fraudsters. And they are being reported to my bank, VISA and the federal authorities although I'm a Brit.

I requested a search of a person for .95 and never requested a subscription. According to the representative, there was information indicating that unless you go back and cancel, there is an automatic subscription of $19.95. I cancelled the subscription after seeing the charge and advised I would not receive a refund. I believe this is deceptive as they could see no other inquiries were made and I believe they use this form of deception to elicit unwanted business form them. In addition, the information received on the one person requested was poor information.

I decided to use Spokeo to look up some phone numbers & addresses. So I signed for a trial membership. The information was incomplete. Every time I tried to retrieve the information, Spokeo charged an additional fee. Got tired of this and decided to forget it. They charged two different fees. Cancelled everything (so I thought) a few days later. Told I would not be billed again. A month later was billed $9.95 for a "Friends" account which I never signed up for. Supposedly I have cancelled a second time. Won't pay anymore fees to them.

Be very careful of this company/website. I looked up a neighbors address to send a card. I paid for a one-time fee to see the actual address. NEVER saw any information about joining or being part of a trial until charges (19.95) appeared on my credit card. Very unethical... scavengers at every opportunity. My Visa was charged $19.95. I called 800-699-4264 for a refund. Supposedly I did a trial a few months ago, but didn't cancel so I they started an automatic monthly fee of $19.95. They said they'd refund me $10, but after I threatened to report them to the BBB and call my bank, they put me on hold, 'spoke with their supervisor', and came back and said they would refund me the whole $19.95. Who pays 20 bucks a month to look up phone numbers anyway?

I used Spokeo to confirm address on one person, but there's nothing in their reply that I did not already know. It was a .95 cent trial, which I went online and cancelled. They billed me January 22nd for $19.95 and followed that with a monthly charge for 'Friends of Spokeo' services for $18.95 on the 15th of every month.

Spokeo advertises that "You will not be billed for 30 days." 5 days after not liking the service, I went through the bs of removing my name from their listings. And it has just turned 30 days and Spokeo has charged me 3 times in the 30 days. These people are using false advertising to lure people in. Today I had to shut down my banking account because they tried to hit it again. The bank is pursuing you, Spokeo, for fraudulent charges. I will continue to update Consumer Affairs about these criminal actions taking place with Spokeo.

Someone used my card and information to do a search of someone I don't know. My card was charged 19.95 and then my bank had to pay because that money was not there so insufficient funds of 32.00 and then 6 over draft fees of 5.00 were charged. So now I'm in the hole with my bank by 86.00 and all that Spokeo will pay us 16.00 - wow for someone hacking my information. They are cheap and low down. They should be sued for all they have. They are not professional at all.

I have used the Spokeo.com service twice. I paid $9.95 for each lookup (by phone number). The first time, the returned name and location of the person was wrong. The second time, no name was returned but the location was wrong. At the very least, Spokeo relies on very thin data, or at worst they are conjuring imaginary data. At the very least Spokeo should bill only if useful information was actually obtained in their search. However, they give no heads-up as to the information they can provide. I simply cannot recommend Spokeo. You will likely waste your money and you will not get the information you wanted. Stay away. Please.

Earlier this year I went online to order a report. The cost was $4.95. The report had NO useful information. Somehow that would up as an $18.95 unauthorized change to my credit card for several months. Spokeo customer service is only available from 6 am to 5 pm PST. Makes it kind of hard to call from home. The upshot is some ** story that I signed up for a 30 day trial and the initial charge was $0.95. So not what I recall. I am getting $18.95 plus $14 back from these scumbags and will NEVER do business with them again. If you are smart -- stay away from Spokeo.

System keeps replying "cannot find user information." I had all the information required: email, full name on credit card, date subscription purchased & last 4 digits of credit card used to purchase - all of it correct. I had the original receipt of purchase and I have only one credit card... Luckily I had written down the password and when I gained entry to the account all the exact information I was putting in to be reminded of my password was right there under my profile... so why am I told "cannot find user information"? Also the phone number I traced info on "only" brought back a "location" - no name, no address as advertising says/leads you to believe. Just a city and state - period.

This service is a total rip-off. I received a text from an unknown number that had me concerned so I entered it into the reverse phone service to see if I could find out where it was from. Spokeo checked off one by one that it had obtained information regarding this number as far as owner etc. At that point I figured it was worth the money finding out who had sent this text. As soon as I paid the results popped up and the only information provided was the carrier.

Spokeo.com -- the only way they get your details is if you tap in your email address, which is linked to Facebook and many other social sites. Don't put in your name, address or anything else in the search bar. Like everyone else has said, this site is a scam site. Don't give them your money.

I tried to make an account for the advertised price of $0.95 cents. When I tried to get into my account, the error message I received was "Email address INVALID". Since I needed this information right away, I tried to sign up again, using my alternate email address. The only offer I received this time was a "$4.95 a month for 3 months." I went ahead and purchased it. When I tried to log on, I was given the SAME ERROR MESSAGE. I called the company, but they were closed.
A few days later I received a message from them (cut/pasted from the email): "Dear **, Spokeo has been experiencing problems with new account password creation. We apologize for any inconvenience and frustration this has caused. Please follow the link below to log in to Spokeo with this temporary password: Visit https://www.spokeo.com/login or click the button below. Enter your temporary login credentials. Your login is ** and your temporary password is **. Once logged in, click 'Account' in the top right hand corner of the screen. On the account page, click 'change password' under 'Account Info'."
After noticing I was billed for BOTH accounts, I called the Customer Service, and was given the run-a-round. They would not refund my full amount, only partial refund - AND, I WAS NOT ALLOWED TO SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR!! Very bummed about this. This company has no INTEGRITY. Their mistake cost me $$. I only wanted to look up one phone number. Their ad said to look up one number would be .99 for a 7 day trial. I looked up one number. There was no information so I called and canceled, talking to someone outside of the US. She reassured I would only be changed the 7 day trial fee. I was charged 19.95 for a membership. I called but they never had any record of my calling. She would take off the 9.95 and only charge me 10.00. So I paid 10.00 for nothing on Spokeo.

I have been using Spokeo recently and decided to search myself to see what is seen by those possibly searching me. I was so shocked to read the misinformation I became livid! I called the customer service for Spokeo and was coolly apologized to, but no attempt to correct nor questions asked on how to correct these gross errors. I do NOT recommend this service if you are interested in accuracy re those who you are searching! If you have any doubt search yourself as I did and be prepared for a big unpleasant surprise! I had some suspicions with a new neighbor. For my own personal knowledge I just wanted to know if there may be anything online to be found about this person. Google could not even locate this individuals name. So Spokeo.com claimed to have 100+ possible criminal court documents listed with the name and address I was searching. I paid for the subscription, then paid for the court document search and zero was found. I then paid for something else and zero was found. I went one step further and decided to search a person I know personally (my ex husband) who do have a long record. I was again informed the Records found in his name were long, but guess what? Zero records were found... SCAM. Do not waste your $$$.

All my personal information are posted on their website and their partner websites without my authorization. All these information have been affected my life directly. I had followed their instructions to remove/opt out my listings one by one as they posted 4-5 listings related to me on their websites. I received a couple email confirmation of removal request. I checked a weeks and 2 weeks later, they are still on their websites. In fact, they have never been removed. I went on their website and tried to remove them again and there was error message stating that listing removal is limited. This is ridiculous as it has been wasting my time and violate my privacy and profession.

Always, a error message shows up as: "Removing Your Listing from Spokeo.In order to prevent abuse, we must limit the frequency of automated privacy requests." I didn't authorize anyone to post my personal information. Now, I cannot even remove them online. If anyone see this review and know the solution, please contact me. I used their white pages and must have needed to pay a fee; they did not bill me, so a late fee and another month's charges showed up on my credit card. The credit card company notified me, since I have still not received a bill. $50 buck is a pretty expensive lesson to learn. Has anybody been successful in getting their money back from Spokeo? MAD.

You will be charged SEPARATELY for each search i.e. name, email, user id, phone, address, historical search. $49.95 buys you only 50 phone number searches or whichever search you pick on your first time through. Thereafter you must purchase each of the other searches as a separate transaction @ 14.95 and it must be a purchased as a recurring charge to your credit card. I cannot believe this company is still in business with these unfair and deceptive practices. Makes me sick!

It advertises false hopes of finding what you need with simply entering an email or phone number, etc. It says it will only cost you X amount of money and, next thing you know, with their loopholes it charges your card 23 dollars for something you can look up on Google for free so not worth it!!! I signed up for a one time name search for .94, what I got was a secret Friends of Spokeo subscription for $18.95. When I noticed this charge on my bank statement today I promptly called them with my cancellation number. I was informed by the young lady at Spokeo that the day I cancelled my subscription there was a bug in their system and I hadn't cancelled what I thought I did. Sorry no refund for me because I should have known that email cancellation confirmation wasn't real. I did finally get a partial refund of $9.47... But I will never do business with them again.

I signed up for a "trial" of the premium service which cost $0.95. My search yielded no results so I cancelled the trial. Due to extensive travel for work I only noticed 3 months later that Spokeo had been deducting 18.95 from my account for a "Friends" service of some kind I have never heard of, never mind signed up for! I didn't not receive any written confirmation that I had been subscribed to this service and I never received any billing notifications of this service. In fact I had no written or verbal communication from the company at all!
This "service" is just a front to sneak money from people's accounts in the hopes they won't notice. It is absolutely shocking that they are not required (if indeed they are not) to inform you of any billing or services you are subscribed to. After sitting on hold for 20 minutes I was put through to a customer service agent and refunded after I cited their "100% satisfaction guaranteed or your money back" policy. I am very careful online exactly for this reason. This level of slippery, shady behavior is truly special on the "low" scale.

I subscribed to Spokeo, cancelled the same day. I was not aware there were different types of subscriptions - my cancellation was only for one type. My account was drafted after the trial. This service only allows a few searches per month, not worth the money. If you try it and want to cancel be sure to cancel everything won't happen to you.

Today is March and my cc was charged $18.95?? When I called in today to inquire about it they said I only cancelled the people search, and that I never cancelled for friends search?? I mean robbery at its best!! Don't waste your money as the information they provide with searches is free information you can get on google!!!! Spokeo got my credit card info and started taking 17.95 per month out of my account. I called them and they said they were a collection company and collected money for others (like PayPal). They refused to tell me what the billing was for and I would have to call my credit card company. I did and they immediately canceled my cc number, locking my funds until I got my new cc number in the mail... that took two weeks. Thanks Spokeo, you screwed me good for those two weeks as I work 450 miles from home and had no money.

This company really screws you. They advertise a low amount for one month of service. You sign up and the price goes from like $6.95 a month to almost $24 a month for a year. Of course it is in all small print, almost hidden that when you sign up for what you think is one month, it is actually for a year and the premium price per month. Then the 3-4 email addresses that they gave me were not correct. They cancelled my account but I still have to pay almost $24 for a little over an hour of useless usage. THIS SITE IS WORTHLESS, I AM GOING TO FIGHT THIS AS FAR AND AS LONG AS I CAN.

I signed up for a one time search of a name with phone number and address and they proceeded to charge me $19.95 per month for a service I never ordered nor was informed about. It took several months before I noticed the continuing charge. I called and canceled the subscription but they would not give me a refund. I called my credit card company who canceled the charges. Beware of doing any business with this company.

Used their service once. Did not get ANY information. Canceled. Then got a bill for $19.95. Called them and they agreed to drop it to $4.95. Told them I was going to file complaints with BBB, the state and put a hold on the bank card. They then agreed to waive all charges.

I just want to tell everyone to stay away from Spokeo, their service and customer service are a joke. I paid to be shown at the very least the name of the owner of a phone number that had been calling me, it wasn't a telemarketer it was just a person trying to buy my computer. Spokeo after being paid of course took me to a page where the only information displayed was THE PHONE NUMBER THAT I HAD GIVEN THEM!!!! Are you kidding me? There was no name, address, relatives, social media info or anything of the like - all those were blank...so Spokeo charges to take you to a blank page? SCAM.

Do not use this company under any circumstances. I bought a name search, which didn't help me all the much, and in the process the company signed me, without my knowledge, up for a 7 day free trial. After 7 days, and again without my knowledge, they converted my free trial to a $19.95 monthly subscription. Giving them your credit card info is dangerous.

Two years ago I searched for a number using this site's ".99 cent One Day Trial," but found out yesterday that wasn't the case when I noticed an odd transaction on my bank statement. I called the company and they reimbursed me $23.70 for a "Six Month Subscription" and finally cancelled it after I argued that I never signed up for it. They assured me there were no other payments taken. That's when I went to the bank and found out they had been debiting my account every six months since August 2013. The bank is currently working on the situation, but honestly don't expect anything more than the "confirmed subscription cancellation" and one reimbursement charge. With business practices like these there's no telling how much money they've ripped people off for.

I was an early subscriber to their service. I very rarely used their service, but maintained my subscription for the occasional use and because they didn't offer my package anymore. A year ago I spoke with a representative because I couldn't figure out my password (because I used it so rarely), and she was great, very friendly and very helpful. She told me to hang on to my subscription because they don't offer it anymore.
In December of 2014, I had my wallet stolen. I had to replace my credit cards. I just called Spokeo to update my credit card information and was told they "do not have the ability to update credit card information" and I would have to sign up for a new account. This sounded like a ploy to get an early subscriber to their service out of a preexisting plan and into a new, more expensive plan. I asked to speak to a supervisor.
After a few minutes, a supervisor named RJ got on the phone and told me that they do not have the "ABILITY" to update credit cards and I would have to sign up for one of their new, more expensive plans. I explained to him that they obviously had the "ABILITY" to update my credit card (they are an online business and they take credit card information all the time), but that they have decided to devalue any relationship they've had with previous, early subscribers to their business. Basically, they have no loyalty to customers who have been loyal to them.
I guess Spokeo has grown so much they don't need or want their old customers who helped them get where they are. They are very clearly trying to get early subscribers out of their old plans and into more expensive new plans. This smacks of slimy, big business tactics and in the current online world that is built on customer service and personal relationships, they are clearly showing they don't value their long term customers. With the cost of customer acquisition and customer retention, along with the value of referrals and word of mouth advertising, Spokeo has failed in showing any value to their long term customers.
As previously stated, I rarely used the service. They were basically getting free money from me every year for a service I didn't use. I simply maintained it because of the occasional use and because of the plan I was on due to being an early subscriber. Part of the reason I rarely used it was because the service was not that good. The information the offered in searches was hit and miss at best. Most of the information was far too outdated to be of any use. In fact, in the several years I subscribed to their service, I believe only one or two of my searches ever produced any current or accurate information. With that batting average, their current prices are a complete waste of money. Save yourself some money and do a basic internet or white pages search on your own. If you do decide to pay for a search service, use a different company who values their relationships with their customers.

I was supposed to be charged 18.95. During my trial week I wrote them and asked for a refund. I looked at my bank statement and realized they withdrew $60 out of my account this month. I hadn't even noticed! I called them. They have issued the last $20 withdrawal back to me. I spoke to a woman named Shannon and she claims she can't see where else they took the money. But I can have my bank call them and we can do a conference call. So ridiculous.

This is a rip off company. WAS told I would be charged .99 cents for a search that I was never able to contact the person. Called and cancelled, was told it would be cancelled after 7 days. Never worry to look at statements from the bank, however today I found that I have been charged $14.95 for over 7 months. Called the company and was told they could only reverse 1 month. The bank also stated that I have to resolve it with Spokeo. Problem that I would just pay my credit card and don't check the charges monthly. This is a rip off company. I don't even know the other company that my money was going to - S PK *BZSHARK 8006491390.CA.

I have been scammed by Spokeo. I applied for a onetime charge to look up a phone number. (I never made the requested phone number, by the way. ) I have been charged $18.95 and also $19.95 for two months running. When I called and asked about the double dipping from my checking account I was told I agreed to a second service called Friends of Spokeo.
I did not agree to that service as I saw no such service listed. The operator said that nevertheless, whether I had seen it or not, I agreed to it. I was told I could go to the Spokeo website and find the enrollment page and see the proof of it. I would not do that as I would have to reenroll to find it. They would allow no reimbursement of any charges.

My housekeeper was a no show. I had only her phone number. I tried reverse lookup, was hijacked by Spokeo, who led me to believe they had the information I was seeking. Feeling desperate, I gave them my credit card number. They in turn had no other information than the phone number that I gave them, NO ADDRESS, NO NAME. Nothing.
For nothing they billed my credit card $1.21 and gave me seven free days of Spokeo service. Further, if I fail to cancel this free service in 7 days they automatically bill my credit card $14.95 per month. It seems to be an AMERICAN company and I gathered they were searching in nc? I am in Victoria B.C. Very scammish.

I looked up a name. Then it said the charge was 95 cents. I had no problem with the 95 cents but after I put in my information, it said it was $19.95 a month! I deleted all my information but it kept it and charged my account. I never confirmed. Now I guess I will have to go through Visa to stop Spokeo from charging me monthly. I will get my money back. The phone number stays busy.

Spokeo advertise $3.95 for a 6-month membership. So when you submit your financial information, they take $23.95 from you. It's fraud and it's wrong, not to mention it's false advertising. How many people do they do this to? They're basically scamming everyone that signs up.

Used their service for a one-time reverse phone number look up. Got put into a monthly automated billing on my credit card without my authorization ($19.95/mo). Have been billed 5x so far. Very difficult to get this cancelled. Not a reputable business.
