I started getting charges to my credit card from Spokeo in July, 2014. When I called them to find out what the charges were for, I was advised I had signed up for a "person location service." I asked them for proof of my sign up for this service. They advised me "it did not work that way". I cancelled the service immediately. I ended up with this probably unscrupulous company by going to a legitimate webpage called White Pages and when I couldn't find the person I was looking for, saw lower down the page, a way to search further. I had no idea it would mean I was "subscribed" and signed up, and charged $19.95 US a month. BEWARE!

I was curious and signed up for what I assumed was a free trial. Unfortunately, I ended up paying for 6 months of service for something I will NEVER use. There are also a lot of "extra" fees that the consumer will be hit with. Very displeased!

I signed up for a one time search and 7 day trial. I did NOT even find complete information on the one person I searched for. I cancelled the remaining "subscriptions" and have been billed TWO more times for a monthly charge of 18.95 that is nonrefundable. They are a complete rip off and scam. DO NOT USE....

I simply wanted the basic service for $.95. My credit card was charged that, PLUS 2 charges for 19.95 and a third charge was coming for $18.95. Why?? In calling them, they had all these complicated reasons, supposedly clearly outlined on their site. Being a reasonably intelligent person, I NEVER saw these "clear" instructions. In calling them they said they had removed every charge, except $.95.

I logged in and tried to do a search, it came back with all general information, nothing specific, as it claimed it would do. When I called the following day for a refund, which it is stated on the site I would receive a full refund, the gentleman on the other end said all he could refund me was $20.00, I paid $35.85. This is a ripoff company and I would not recommend it to anyone. If you cannot do what you are claiming, then it should be deemed illegal to claim it! Plain and simple.

I have a phone number from 2008 and did not want to try to use it due to possibly now being for someone else. I started to use Spokeo and thought I had backed out. I was charged the fee, called the card holder who would contest the charge and suggested I get a new account number. I was able to get through to Spokeo customer service rep who reversed the charge, sent a confirming email plus a second email saying subscription cancelled. Taylor could not have been more professional and attentive.

Spokeo generates lies. Mislead as follows
2. Claimed to have names and addresses of a specific phone number that after I paid they did not have.
3. The little information they provided was wrong.
4. For myself, they were 30 miles off on the area I lived in one case and 800 miles off in the other case.

I have just discovered Spokeo has been deducting the $14.85 from my PayPal for the past 2 years. I have requested a list of charges from PayPal against my account to determine if they have deducted additional charges as it seems others have had this occur. The subscription default on PayPal is to not notify you of subscription charges unless you change this default. So I never received any notifications these amounts were being deducted. I just happened to see the most recent charge on PayPal while looking for another transaction. I was not aware of signing up for anything on this site.
I have received emails from PayPal and Spokeo in response to my inquiry about this subscription, and both tell me the subscription is canceled, effective March 2015. Spokeo basically told me I must have signed up for it, and tough luck on the past charges but did not answer my request for verification that I actually signed up and agreed to this subscription. Any input/direction for receiving a refund on these charges would be helpful. When I mentioned this to my husband, he remembered receiving an email from Spokeo in the past few months prompting him to find out if randlandtv was having an affair. I am not sure if anyone else has also had similar emails sent to their S/O - friends, etc.

I am looking for a family member. Spokeo.com pops up and says it has found a person with that name, and in the area of state I know she is living in. It gives me an old address where I know this family member did live with an old email address she used. I sign up for $39.95. I search and I cannot find any evidence of where to find her now. So for another $9.95 I will get more in depth official State documentation. I tried the update and it switches to 400 miles away with a different middle name to someone I do not know. I continue to try different parts of their, Spokeo.com's website only to be offered more ways to look for more money! It is a scam and a trap!

I used Spokeo once and they charged me about $50 for that one time use. Then they charged me $19.95/per month which they took from my credit card for more than a year. When I bought the charges, I called the company to reverse the charges. They would not and said that I signed for their monthly service which I did not. It was a one time use and I paid for it! There was no need for them to recharge me each month. This company needs to be investigated and protect us consumers from these fraudulent charges.

I ordered a report as the search had a column "the results include" which had phone number checked off. Under the same column it had other things listed under "may also include". I highlighted the button for the report only, a cheaper price for a trial membership was an option. After submitting my payment information, I received a message stating what I was charged, which was a third price less than the report only and more than the trial membership report price, also stating that I was a Premium member. I first checked the report, as finding the phone number was urgent and the report did not have a phone number.
I signed out (you create an account to view the results online) and did the search again, this time taking screen shots to show the search page with the phone number checked as well as the page with the report prices listed and called the Customer Care number listed on their email with the receipt for the report charge. You have to choose billing or tech support so I chose billing. The rep listened, said he was taking notes, and went through each concern. He even went to the search pages to see that it stated that the phone number was checked as available. He gave me his supervisor's email to email the screen shots to his supervisor and gave me a refund. My emails to the supervisor were returned as undeliverable.
I called Customer Care again and spoke with a different rep that said that that email address might not be able to accept images. I explained that that was the whole point of the email and explained that the website was showing inaccurate results. He then said that the small print states that not all information is available (which isn't true). I said that they were doing false advertising and he then said that I needed to speak with their legal department and wanted to give me yet another email address. I responded that I didn't trust that email to work and wasn't going to waste more time dealing with them and would instead do a review online.
I am going to keep an eye on my credit card statement. I also went back to their site, logged in, and took screen shots to show that I am not suppose to be subscribed to anything. I will keep the messages that my emails were undeliverable as well as my receipts. The irony is that they now have my name, current phone and email address for their database!
