    Purchased a $.95 single time look up and only ever input credit card info for a 1 time purchase. Later was billed $25 for a subscription. I called Spokeo, immediately canceled my account, and addressed the charge to which they said there was nothing they could do. After some more speaking, I was offered a prorated return of $9.98. I inquired why the return was less than half of the subscription cost when I had canceled my subscription the day it was started. I was told this is because I still had access to my account for a few more weeks. I explained that I have no desire to have an account at all and am not interested in a few more weeks of access.

    The agent on the phone said that she can’t do an accurate prorate and to take it or leave it, so I regretfully took the minimal return. This sort of customer care is unlike any I have received before in similar situations dealing with Amazon Prime or Hulu both of which I have been able to cancel in the past with a full refund on the grounds that I never used them. All in all I would not recommend this service to anyone who doesn’t intend on using it very frequently and meriting the $25 per month charge.

    I attempted to look up one person's phone number for .95 cents. Spokeo promised a 7 Day Satisfaction guarantee. The problem is, you don't find out it was a SCAM until you get your credit card bill 30 to 45 days later. I complained to my credit card company & they reversed the charges and credited my account. However, Spokeo aggressively contacted my credit card company and attempted to recover their money, and my credit card company charged me again! ADVICE - Complain to Spokeo immediately upon seeing your bill. COMPLAIN IN WRITING & KEEP YOUR EMAIL!! You will need this for proof down the road when your credit card company rebills you due to Spokeo's aggressive tactics!

    I purchased the 7 day premium trial Jan 28th. Of course I forgot when the trial was over. I cancelled on March 11 and was refunded a small part of the current charge. To my surprise I found out there were duplicate charges on another one of my credit cards, for which I have no explanation how they got that information.

    If you are not an actual free service do not claim that you are. Spokeo says it is free to search, that is true but that is as far as free goes. In implying free i would expect the results from the search would be included. A 7 day free trial is not in fact free. If you charge a debit card you are forcing a person into a commitment that does cost money therefore nothing here is free. When i google reverse phone lookup if i see a free reverse lookup to be exactly that. I expect the results back to be free. Otherwise i will be better off paying the dmv for the information ane showing my id. Spokeo is not a free service in not enough of a way to be the #1 google spot for a free service. Take free out of your advertising because giving you my debit card # cost me something, my time and my financial institutions time which i will pay for in the form of fees

    I purchased a report from them for $.95. Within a few days, I received a charge of $19.95 on my credit card. I called their customer service department to ask what the charge was about and they informed me that my purchase allowed them to sign me up for a monthly program at $19.95/mo and the charge was my 1st month's billing. If there is a notice of this authorization on their web site, it must be hidden or difficult to find. I did not see it.

    I felt like I was dealing with a used car sales manager trying to get this charge removed from my card and the 'membership' cancelled. The scheme goes like this: No refund because I agreed to their terms. Then they agreed to refund around $7 and cancel the subscription the next mo. I refused this offer and asked to escalate this issue to a supervisor. After waiting on hold, the representative told me I would only receive the $7 refund. I told them this was unacceptable and that I would dispute the charge with my credit card company and they (Spokeo) could deal with them. I was put on hold again and when the rep returned he told me the charge was being removed and the membership cancelled. I did receive an email confirmation of the cancellation. Beware of dealing with Spokeo.

    This morning I got a couple of inappropriate text messages from a number I don't know so I was trying to see if I can find any information on Google about that phone number. The only information I could find is the town that the number is coming from. Then I saw a Spokeo ad saying find the owner of any cell phone number so I clicked on the link and it took me to the Spokeo homepage where it already showed the number I was looking up typed in and had the name supposed owner's name and all the information starred out because it was saying I needed to pay to see the information.

    So I paid and got my confirmation and click to the page where I'm supposed to see all this information and every column said no information found. So I wasted money because the only information it showed was the town which I had already found on Google. Then I'm annoyed but think hey I may as well look over the site while I have the discounted sign up rate (it said in a few days It'd charge me the full $20 a mo every mo unless I cancel). So I go to try to look up my own name and it says I have to pay again because apparently when I paid for it it was just for that phone number and i got no information anyway. It's useless you can find the same amount of information on Google for free.

    I needed to do a background check on one tenant and decided to use that site. After purchasing the report for $.95 and paying to print it ($.50) I found a charge on my card of $24.95 a few days later. Apparently, this site uses my card to change for membership I never applied for. BEWARE of this fraud and NEVER give them your card number. I found this site and it looks like a letter to FTC and Attorney General needs to be submitted to close this fraud.

    I paid .95 to check out a phone number on 3/17/2019. I received an alert from American Express 3/24 regarding a pending charge from Spokeo.com for $24.95! This is very upsetting - the charge is unauthorized and spokeo.com kept my credit card information! I searched online and found out there is subscription service that gets renewed until canceled. Sure enough, I logged into my account at spokeo.com and realized that I have that service. I canceled the subscription service which I never ordered and was not aware of.

    It is very sneaky for spokeo.com to charge one time customers for monthly subscription service that was never ordered. Additionally the subscription service charge did not start with the one time purchase charge date. It started a week later. I would likely not have noticed the charge if AX had not alerted me of this card not present online transaction.

    This website is dangerous and creepy. On it, anyone has access to personal information. Although it is not always correct, there's usually at least an address and this is not ok. I went to this site to remove listings about me and my family and my LITTLE BROTHER was on it. He was NINE at the time and this site could have given someone the information they needed to kidnap him. Please, this site needs to be boycotted or shut down.

    Very deceitful billing process... Do not sign up. They sneak the charges onto your credit card bill, and if you have a lot of charges, you may not notice their sneaky little $25 dollar charge for a few months... That's how they get you...

    I don't know how or why a company like this is allowed to attempt to compile or provide private information about people, especially since the info they provide is so far from reality it makes no sense. If lawmakers cared about anything but enriching themselves this kind of scam would be shut down and the people behind it would be doing some jail time.

    This company gets paid to post private, public information about people without their knowledge or consent. It is a sickening invasion of privacy and they should be shut down. They have my court records listed and absolutely refuse to take it down unless I have my record expunged, which I am not in a financial position to do right now. They are basically forcing me to expunge my record when I can't, holding my privacy hostage at their disposal, not caring at all about how this affects me. The public no longer has control about their own private information being given out. Thanks to companies like this and it needs to stop. I would encourage anyone and everyone to pursue legal action against this company for clear invasions on their privacy.

    I paid for full membership on Spokeo because a particular phone number has been harassing one of my children and none of us recognized the phone number. I got minimal to zero info after paying for their membership fee (despite paying the extra fee for court and personal records). Curious as to how accurate the information was that I had just paid for, I decided to look myself up. To say my information is WILDLY INACCURATE is a gross understatement! The only thing this site got correct was my address and email. It claims I am single, have no children, no known relatives, am on no social media sites nor can they find any info that links my email to any websites, that I make a whopping $90,000-$110,000 a year??? (Dang... taxes must be really high in this State cause I make maybe a third of that).

    I would love to know where they got all the BOGUS information from that I just paid money for? This site is nothing more than a scam. I also looked up my Father to see if his information was correct and they only got his address right. They have no record of him marrying my Mother, that he had any children (he had 4), nor that he passed away on February 28th of last year. This site is an absolute disgrace!

    Signed up for the trial period and the information that they reported was highly inaccurate and incomplete. I am sure this is to get you to invest further. Canceled the service within the time period specified and apparently it was not received and continued to charge me for additional months. Called to cancel which they did but no consideration on the previous month charges. This is where they make their money. Beware and do not give them your credit card information.

    Why is Spokeo.com listing people's home addresses? I have a restraining order right now and would prefer my address not be known so that someone violent doesn't find me. This violation of privacy is disgraceful, disgusting, and downright dangerous. Although I believe in God, I am not Christian, which they listed me as. They also listed an incorrect salary under my name. I am now worried about an interview I have on Friday because if the manager decides to do a search about my name, it will paint me in a bad light. Spokeo.com should be boycotted along with any website that intrudes on the lives of others; I'm hoping they are eventually shut down forever. Thank you for reading this message.

    I received an email from Spokeo today. They claim to be refunding $199.50 in addition to $19.95 that they claim to have previously refunded me, but that I never received. They will not tell me the email address associated with this mysterious account but have been charging my card for one month shy of a year. Perhaps they refunded him or her the money. Please be careful with this site. There has never been any activity on this account since it was set up, but I was charged for almost a year. I am very dismayed and scared by this. I am awaiting further response to my questions and I will be filing a complaint with the FTC in hopes of keeping this type of thing from occurring again.

    I used Spokeo to search a phone number one time, at a charge of $0.95, I was fairly thorough in making sure I wasn't enrolling in a subscription because I know how these sites usually work. Two months later I realize they've charged me $20 the past two months. I called them to request a refund, they told me they would only be able to refund me $15 of the $40 charged. I never once used the service between the initial search and now, so it would be ridiculous to charge me for a service I never used. I ended up asking to speak to someone higher up, and THEN they were able to refund the full amount, I never even ended up speaking to someone higher up than the initial customer service representative. Always go up the ladder! Never again will I use Spokeo, though.

    I needed to find a single phone number for my aunt to notify her of my mother's death. They did give me the right number and I thought I was paying $19.95 for a single use. I realized 2 months later that they were charging my credit card $19.95 monthly when I had no idea I had signed up for a useless subscription. Don't use this service.

    I was Googling my address when I spotted Spokeo. I noticed they had misinformation about my residence. I called and tried to get them to correct the information, but they continue to report two people living at my address who have never lived at my address. They said that they would and wait a couple of day, but nothing has happened. Spokeo simply picks up unsubstantiated information and publishes it. I feel violated. Those people could be identity thieves. I am the homeowner. Spokeo should have verified this information with me before reporting it. Spokeo should not be allowed to publish incorrect information that can put the public in possible danger. Those people could be criminals.

    I've seen Spokeo.com pop up often while I was searching for genealogical info and I simply ignored it. Today it popped up while I was looking at something entirely different and showed information that I knew was totally incorrect. So I started checking using family members. An off-spring listed as living at this address -> not for the last 10 years. Mother-in-law living both here and out-of-state -> dead for over 8 years. Father-in-law living bot here -> never happened and dead 12 years. My wife and I are listed at a previous address -> 38 years ago. The list goes on and on. Why? Because they are using web bots (robots, aka web crawler or web spider) to search the web and collect data. Right or wrong. Real or fake. Doesn't matter. You can do better on your own and make better connections. If you think their "service" is worth paying for, you are prime for any of the Nigerian scams going around.

    I did a cell number search for .95. Nowhere was there anything stating I was subscribing to their service. Eight days later there was a $24.95 charge on my credit card for monthly service. I called the company to request a refund which was denied. They offered me a 40% refund. The info I received was not accurate. I found better info with a free google search. This company is charging for outdated info and for subscription service when there is nothing about being subscribed when you pay the 95 for a single search.

    This is intentional and they make their money by scamming everyone that orders a single .95 search. Avoid Spokeo.com at all costs because you will get ripped off a week later by them adding a charge for searches that you will never use because they never send you any info or statement. They just throw in that charge and if you don’t check out the charges on your card you’ll never know they’ve done it. I imagine they make a lot of illegal money doing this because the average person won’t notice the reoccurring charge till 2-3 months later. When you call for a refund they refuse. I wish there was a way to shut this company down because nothing about this operation is legitimate.

    I used Spokeo to do a reverse search on a phone number that I wanted to see if it was legit. I found spokeo on Google search and came up with Spokeo. I've never tried it before but said for $0.95 I could be a one-time deal and it's all I was just paying for a one-time thing and after being charged 24.95 three times I finally noticed on my account that I was being charged. Call the 1-800 number. I didn't get through. Second time they said they're in a business wide meeting. For the third time I did get through. Talk to a guy named Steve and told Steve straight up what happened. I never ask for my money back but I told him told him exactly what happened and Steve just kept trying to upsell me to do more and I told him, "I'm trying to be nice here, just get me done with this," and eventually he did. He said he's going to email me a confirmation.

    All I can say is that I feel like I got scammed on this for sure if it did say I definitely missed it on where it said it's going to sign me up for subscription 24.95 a month. $75 mistake here and I'm paying the price and a lot of you will be like me. You won't be looking this stuff up until after you got scammed so best of luck for those who check it out first. Thank you.

    I purchased a one time report for $1.95 on top of which they have added $0.95, which is OK. But then I was surprised to find out months later that I've been paying $19.95 every month for a subscription I did not authorize. There was not a single email or mail on this from them. I clearly remember there was nothing that mentioned it was a trial. The customer service was rude when discussing this. I asked him why there is no monthly statement for their service, which would have caught my eye way before if it was the case. He kept telling me the monthly statement is the charge I see in my credit card. This was absolutely ridiculous. So, stay away from this company altogether.

    Beware of the Spokeo Deception. I performed and paid for a single phone # search through the Spokeo site several months ago, and just noticed on my bank statement a reoccurring monthly charge of $19.95. At that time there was no indication that by performing a single search that I was signing up for a monthly subscription. If they had, I would have never used Spokeo. They make way more money using this deception than being upfront and honest with the consumer.

    In order to research a renter I authorized Spokeo to charge $0.95 on my credit card. I stopped navigating their web pages when they asked for more money. A subsequent fraud alert from my bank turned out be due to the fact that Spokeo had started a yearly charge of $24.95 on my credit card.

    Used this site for a reverse search which provided me no information whatsoever on the individual I was looking up. Not only that they charged .99 which ok no big deal. They didn’t make clear that after so many days they rolled it to a monthly subscription that charges $19.95! Imagine my surprise when I was billed by them yesterday! So I called customer service and got a run around first of the usual “you still have access for x number of days! But your account is cancelled”. I reiterated I wanted a refund, I didn’t care to use their service again and that they weren’t clear it was a subscription I was going to be billed for.

    To which they offered a partial refund of their shortest package but refused to do a refund still. I explained again I had no use for their service (since it didn’t help at all anyway) and they literally billed me yesterday so there’s no reason for them not to refund. But no they won’t budge on it and also the refund takes several days to process. I should see it by 10/10. Funny how they can take the money so quick, refuse to return it all and then take ages to do some pitiful partial refund. Avoid their service at all costs. It isn’t actually helpful at all, they just want your money.

    This company is a SCAM. This is the email I received from this company. "A Spokeo Single Search Report for "name" was purchased on your account for $1.95. This allows you to view the "name" profile page on the Spokeo website indefinitely for a one-time charge. You can log back in to your account at any time to check for updates to the "name" listing. A PDF purchase would send the desired information to the user's email, which can be accessed off of the Spokeo website. A PDF has not yet been purchased on your account."

    So, basically after you research and find your name and purchase the initial part that profile page just gives you your name, phone number, and email address. For you to get more information like court records/public information you have to additionally pay more money. How much who knows? This reminds me of a movie where a guy goes in a bar, ask for information and gives the bartender $20.00 then keeps giving him $20.00 more until he finally gets his answer after like $300.00 bucks. Additionally, they had me as a female and not male. And when I spoke to an agent from the company they couldn't even answer my question. This gives you an idea where they're getting your information from, the garbage. Please think twice before using this site.

    I had very bad experience with this site last night. My girlfriend searched my name and Spokeo had me "married" to a lady I had never met nor had contact with. This situation has caused me much anguish and ridicule and was charged with being a Liar by my girlfriend. I called their "Customer Care" line this morning and voiced my concern this incorrect information had caused me and demanded a letter of explanation and also asked to have this lady's name removed from my profile. They said they would get back to me within 72 hours. This is the most embarrassing and humiliating experiences I have lived through. And, I did not cause it!!!

    Phone numbers and info isn't up to date. Found info I was looking for on a free site. Had Spokeo subscription two days. Asked for refund. They would only refund 40 percent. COMPLETE RIP OFF. Save your money. Look elsewhere.

    NEVER EVER ORDER FROM THIS OUTFIT... Fraudulent operations. 1. The service is a joke - you get more from googling a person. 2. Provides no information - and then requests more payments and payment options for further report - you order that report - and they cannot even find family members or addresses which are reported in valid operations. 3. BeenVerified and USA people search provide 10 x the information at less cost. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. These people will steal your credit card number and there is no way to delete it in their own system. They will charge you - for services not provided and in advance for six months at a time. The owners are thieves. Anyone can make millions doing this.

    Stay away from this site. They are crooks! I agreed to a one time fee ($9.85), but was never informed or read anything about being billed monthly. The next month I had a credit charge for $19.95 that they couldn't explain, and the initial charge of $9.85. After calling to complain, they agreed to refunding me $29.80, but never did. Furthermore, the information they provided was vague and inaccurate.

    I paid the .97 cents to look up one number. Nowhere did it mention I was now subscribed to their service. I did not authorize any further charges. Two days later they removed $24.95 from my bank account without any explanation. I've had to change my debit card and I did put a fraud alert against them with my bank. They are nothing more than filthy thieves. Do yourself a favor and stay far, far away from them.

    By giving your info to get a phone number's info you will then be automatically billed for 2 services. One is called connections for $9.85 without even knowing... Scam. The other is for $19.95 for 100 searches with is also a scam without knowing. Serious. This is the worst scam I have ever seen. Do not give them any info. You will not be able to fix this. Example... On my 5/10/2018 used the service. My total was .95 cents for just looking up a phone number. 6/4/2018 was billed 19.95. For what I have no idea... 6/09/2018 was billed 9.85. On 7/5/2018 was billed 19.95. On 7/9/2018 was billed 9.85. On 7/22/2018 was billed 19.95. Wtf. How do you explain that. No lie.

    I wish I had found ConsumerAffairs reviews on Spokeo before I purchased a subscription so I could search. I purchased a basic package, plus the Court records. After unsuccessfully searching for the person I bought the subscription to check out, I did a search on myself, a few family members, and friends. While Spokeo did show some accurate info (current address on myself), it also had a ton of inaccurate info. That included a photo of me (it wasn't me), lots of phone numbers that have never been mine (not even the correct state), email addresses that weren't mine, social accounts that weren't mine, addresses that I never lived at (not even once), and the list goes on.

    This continued with everyone that I knew and searched... most of it was inaccurate. So that gave me zero confidence that even if I got results on the person I was searching that I didn't actually know, the results wouldn't even be accurate. Huge waste of money. Everything I saw about myself is already online for free, and I paid for a bunch of other information that wasn't even correct. Save yourself the hassle, do NOT purchase Spokeo.

    I contacted customer service for Spokeo.com because this site provides caller ID services to several cell phones. My business phone number comes up on those caller IDs as a former owner. I asked if there is a way that they could update their database with the correct information as this has been ongoing for months. They advised me that they could not update my phone number with the correct information. I then asked if I was a customer and paid them to provide current information on that phone number what information would they provide. The number can easily be verified as my business number through the white pages or a simple Google search.

    They replied that they would provide the outdated information that they have on file and I would then be responsible for paying for their service of providing me with the most current information that they have (even though it is out of date and I could obtain the correct information for free on my own). I highly advise that you do not waste your money doing business with this rip off company that has zero customer service. All of the data that they provide for a fee is easily accessible for free through a Google search. Also, their database is not kept current, so in reality you would be giving them free money to pay for incorrect information. This company has no concern for its customers and it has outgrown its use by robbing its customers of their hard earned money.

    Although it took a bit of time, that included discussions with supervisors at several levels and multiple telephone calls, I was able to secure a full refund. This was only achieved with quite a bit of persistence and time on my part. Nevertheless, I must give Spokeo some credit. This admittedly came to resolution with their assistance.

    Use this service... beware. They have a very straightforward policy. When you use a trial subscription, you consent to an auto pay policy. If you fail to cancel this subscription you will be billed until doing so. Like others who have commented. They will resolve some billing issues if you take the time to call and challenge them. Here is my warning: if you fail to spot these charges in a timely way you will be responsible and they will not reverse charges. They will only reverse charges which are contestable with the assistance of your credit card company or bank. Visa for example will not contest charges over 120 days. In other words if your payment method will help contest they will cooperate. If you have no assistance from your financial partner you will be politely told to shove it.

    My personal information is posted to Spokeo and I would like it removed. I followed the instructions under Privacy, which was to copy and paste the URL of my profile to the page, enter my email address (which made me apprehensive) and click that I wasn't a robot to complete. The process will not complete. It continues to refresh the "are you a robot" question. I would like my information remove immediately and indefinitely.

    Joined Spokeo for 1 reason, to get my girlfriend's address in order to send her flowers for Valentine's Day without me having to ask her what the address is (complete spoiler). Looked up her name on Google and Spokeo was the first site that popped up. Said her info was updated that very day and asked me for $0.97 to provide me with what I required, so ok, was worth it. Gave them the requested money, next page requires a monthly membership that is on me to cancel, but it gets better. Above I mentioned it said her info was updated the day I asked, it was at least two years old. I know this for two reasons. 1) I helped her move into the apartment she's at (who looks at addresses then), 2) the deal breaker...called to complain and they told me it was outdated by 2 yrs.

    Warning to everyone who is looking to do a background check on someone. Make sure you check the website fully because I used a website called Spokeo. I was charged money to get information about someone and 95% of the information was wrong. So I called customer service for them to say I could not get my money back and in my case I feel when a company portray himself as being able giving accurate information and they are not able to do that they should refund the money or not portray themselves as being able to give accurate information. But to be clear this is only my personal experience and my feelings and I’m not saying to not use this site. Again I’m only saying to check out any website 100% that charges money.

    I paid .95 cents for the 7 day trial. If you don't cancel by 7 days, a $19.95 charge is placed on your account. I cancelled via email with my account number and name. They sent an additional email requesting more information... last 4 digits of card used, email address (duh, it was on my email), name associate with account (duh, it was on my email). In the meantime, the 7 days went by and the charge was put on my account for $19.95.

    When I CALLED to dispute and ask for charges to be reversed, he said he could only credit me $7.95. I said NO, give me someone with more authority and he came back and said the full amount would be reversed in 7-10 days. LESSON LEARNED: THEY ARE ALL ABOUT SNEAKING THE MONTHLY CHARGE IN. IF YOU ARE NOT ON TOP OF THIS, THEY BENEFIT. I told the guy helping me, Matthew, how deceitful the service is and how they need to change. He claimed that my husband's name was on the account, but I used my debit card with my name, my email. Not my problem they converted the names.

    I looked up myself and my family members here just to see how accurate it was. Almost nothing was correct. They couldn't even get my birthday right, which is very public on my social media profiles. They had several wrong numbers and random addresses listed, they put people I have never even heard of as my relatives, and couldn't find any of my social media profiles even though I have a pretty uncommon name and several public profiles. Stupid service and a ripoff. What the hell are they using to verify this crap?

    I searched myself and almost 80% of everything they had for me was untrue. I have never lived in California, never heard of some of the supposed family members, don't have any kind of criminal record, phone numbers were incorrect, etc. When I called to get it removed and my "membership" canceled, I got Shea on the line. She was very rude, just wanted to get me off the phone. Now when I want to complain, I have to set up an "account" with more of my personal information. Spokeo is a scam.

    I in recent months use the service they advertise that charges would only be $12 a month but then they turn around and charge you 40 to $50 for one search. I then called the company and cancelled my subscription to their service and they told me that I had one year to use the service but they did not tell me about the reoccurring charges that I would be receiving without my permission so of course they charged my account again and again taking money out without my consent. I cancelled again and told them not to be taking money out of my account anymore. Hopefully they will listen and this does not occur again because then I will have to go to the bank and be issued a new card just to get these people off my back. Spokeo is just a rip-off and a scam. I would not recommend it to anyone.

    Spokeo website is selling people's information that 'maybe' had been obtained without any permission or disclosures, and try to overcharge users with any remorse. My experience, they try to change my plan from $24.95 for 4000 searches to 5000 records at $495 per month. Besides Their platform is a joke. Don't keep records from searches done. GO FIGURE, obsolete data, bad emails, phone numbers that don't work. Also you can't find anywhere on your account your payment history. The customer service is as bad as their website, including David 'the supervisor'. Once I started complaining he sent me to several operators.

    The information on this site is completely inaccurate. I have spoken to a guy named Joosh about the information they have and how it was obtained. Completely untrue. The information, addresses etc. were NEVER used by the people they had them attached to. Some they intermixed and had people faces attached to names that were NOT even them. This site is NOTHING more than a SCAM. Let's not even get into the charging. It say $1.00 then charge you $30.00. Someone needs to investigate and shut down this site. It's a SCAM!!!

    Tested the site by looking up my husband, it gave me his correct name, age, former addresses, gave me a couple of emails, BUT TWO that I know for a fact is used by him quite often and has for years, never showed up. The most recent information was 2009??? And they say "full report," but you click on an email... And it's another "full report" for 9.99?? Come on. Very misleading. Biggest waste of 20 bucks. The information was sent to another email.

    I have written several times requesting that my mother be removed from Spokeo.com and provided a copy of her death certification, but now there is NO address that I can write and mail the death certificate to as well as trying to get my name removed again.     I searched for one person and I know all details about him - address, age, emails, telephone. Spokeo didn't even find his Facebook profile - and I know he has one. Because we are friends on Facebook. When I tried to immediately cancel the subscription I was charged for the full 6 months! They make it look like the fee is charged monthly, yet they take all 6 months at once. I don't want access for 6 months because they are useless - I want my money back!

    I needed to try and find some classmates for a high school reunion, so I signed up for the one-month access subscription to Spokeo. I was able to find some useful information, and Spokeo helped me locate contact information for quite a few people. However, more than half of the e-mail addresses listed were invalid or closed accounts. The main reason for my dissatisfaction with Spokeo was that they limit your monthly searches to 100. I don't recall seeing that anywhere when I committed to pay for a month of access. Apparently you can pay more for a higher level of subscription with higher search limits, but again, that information was not readily displayed when I signed up. When I contacted Spokeo Customer Service about this, they were kind enough to reset my monthly limit so I could do a few more searches.

    Read the fine print carefully. You can pay for one search, but then you are automatically enrolled for a $20 per month subscription unless YOU cancel it. Buyer beware! Also, information is not always accurate. We were researching a phone number that is listed under our names. Any carrier listed did not own that account. Still do not know where that phone number came from, but we are pretty sure we are not paying for it.

    I used Spokeo once in 2013 and signed up for what I believed was a three month account at $14.95. It turns out that the billing structure is they bill you this amount every three months indefinitely. This company is absolutely vile and made no offer of restitution. Their business model is to rope consumers into these ongoing charges. The search information isn't even correct anyway.

    I created a Spokeo account not knowing it would immediately charge my credit card. I cancelled my account immediately after I realized it couldn't provide the service I needed. I called to get a refund the same day and was told it is a prepaid service and I can't get a refund after I cancelled the same day. It's not worth the money and the site gives old info. I definitely would not recommend.

    On the website it states 4.95 a month for 6 month trial but it doesn't tell you that they charge upfront for the 6 months. I couldn't search anything because the website kept taking me to the home screen and saying the site was unavailable. They debited my card 29.60 so I called ten mins later to inquire about and the guy was like, "We charge upfront but it says monthly cause that would be the monthly breakdown" so I told him to cancel the subscription and he did but he said they could only refund me 11.88. He had no answer for why he could only refund me 11.88 even though I told I wasn't even able to use the site and the site didn't state upfront charge for the 6 month membership. I definitely wish I had searched this company before trying to use it.

    When I first searched for a person's name, I had made a serious double typo resulting in a name, which could not possibly exist, yet Spokeo came up with a positive search result and immediately asked for money to view it despite advertising the service as being "free". Needless to say I did not accept this obviously dishonest offer. At a later date I searched for an email address, and another typo had sneaked in, where the email domain name was misspelled. Again, the result was positive. This aroused my suspicion, so I did searches for email addresses made up from entirely random characters and numbers, and, you guessed it, in every single case there was a positive search result asking me to sign up for a "trial" by entering my credit card details. As I knew, that the search results were clearly incorrect, I also felt, that the site could not be trusted, so I did not subscribe.

    After waiting for several months I repeated the random character search with identical false results. If something looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and waddles like a duck, it surely is a duck! Spokeo.com surely uses false advertising, fake positive search results and animated but not real time search progress indicators on the web page to sucker unsuspecting people into signing up for a service designed to help itself to the subscriber's money, even if there was no real search result.

    In my eyes this is clearly fraudulent behavior resulting in huge numbers of useless subscriptions, which only can be cancelled after actively complaining and publicising the problems (Refer to the numerous complaints on your own pages from people being automatically enrolled in monthly subscriptions, even if the service was cancelled in time. Also note the machine-personalized scripted form letters in response to every single complaint to Spokeo.com - this looks like just paying lip service and hoping, the problem would go away by itself).

    Although probably there are many real search results, the potentially high number of intentionally fake results speaks for itself. Most phishing sites work this way, and it is highly unlikely for the unethical behavior of this site to be caused by a one-off software bug, because not only is it going on for a long time, but any system administrator worth his or her salt should have spotted this "defect" a long time ago. Maybe it is time for a class action lawsuit. I attached one screenshot of one of my "random character" searches as a proof of the problem. I also encourage other users to perform similar tests, take screenshots and compile a dossier this way to force Spokeo.com to either clean up their act or face the consequences. Spokeo acts almost like a scam and phishing site with thin legalistic excuses.

    How I wish I'd read through the reviews here before I chose to use the allegedly, specially-priced, .95 for seven days, scam-service, Spokeo, online. Next thing I knew, my debit card was charged $19.95 for another month's service! I hadn't authorized this nor ordered a monthly service. Long story shortened--had to cancel my card, still waiting for my new card. Spokeo refused to reimburse me stating that it was mentioned in the ad that it would continue with a 19.95 debit EVERY month. Funny. I never saw that at all. People, read about these so-called 'helpful' services before you do like I did, & have to get a new number with all the other hassles involved & losing $19.95 per month.

    Last search for individual brought up dead person. File was useless. Would be better value if there was a intercept to ask if that was what was willing to pay for, before having charge put through, giving report. Less disappointment. Why pay when you don't know if wrong person or not?

    The search site seems about average to any other. I renewed my membership and it still showed that I had not paid. Maybe being more attentive to customer details would resolve this issue. If I can't use the system till your bookkeeping error is resolved, how come my membership date did not forward to when I could use the site. A little nuance that irritates customers.

    Overcharges for services not requested. We were charged $0.95 for a telephone number that did not work. Subsequential charges of $19.95, $9.95 and additional subscription charge of $19.95. Total ($29.85). The subscription cancellation did not work on their website. Finally, reached customer service by the number on our Visa statement and hopefully we will receive a refund of $19.85. This company is a ripoff and we are concerned they will continue to charge our account for no services.

    DO NOT SIGN UP FOR SPOKEO. Like a few other reviews I signed up for the service back in April. We are adoption and I've moved so many times I can't recall all my address. Yes, they accurately provided the information I needed, but at too high a cost of annoyance. I did know that it was a recurring service but somehow I canceled one thing and not the other so got charged in May & June anyway. Called told them I wanted all services cancelled. Now I've been charged in July. I hate canceling my debit card but I'm thinking that might be the only way to get rid of these vultures. These sorts of services should be a one time charge not a recurring service. But maybe that is the only way they make their money is by STEALING $20 from people. Choose a different service for acquiring background info.

    When I used your product I did receive the information I needed, but when I went to unsubscribe from your service the links didn't work and it was difficult to say the least. I thought I had done that. Then months later I discovered you had continued to hit my credit card with fees of ~$10 and $20 randomly for months... My bad. When I finally called, based on the number on my bank statement - NOT on your website, a fairly gracious CSR agreed to stop the account and offered to refund the last payment extracted. If anyone mentions SPOKEO to me I will be happy to tell them how aggressive and immoral you are. Business like yours should be illegal. Not because of the service you provide but by the vigorish you extract for so little.

    (After my ordeal with Spokeo.com I find that Spokeo.com was charged a fine by the FTC. So beware.) I originally started at this website to look for myself and what info what out there. I saw that they had 30 day free trial so I wanted to try. As soon as I finish entering my credit card info, I see on my account info that I will be charged 4.95 for a service that claimed to be free. But that was just the beginning, seeing that receipt should've alarmed me but instead I emailed them and I cancelled my "recurring" monthly charge.

    I only received an email about my cancellation receipt. I have still not received ANY feedback and their supposedly 24/7 hotline always seems to be "busy" or have a "busy" tone. I had to check my bank account and it was overdrawn... Spokeo charged me 29.70 when they said it was FREE. I still have yet to get a response and every time I call I get hung up on after hearing the busy tone. Do NOT USE THIS SITE.

    I previously subscribed to Spokeo.com. I had to cancel subscription due to unforeseen personal issues. I've recently renewed subscription but I am now very disappointed.     3 months ago while applying for jobs my husband signed up for this service for what he thought was $2.95. We were billed another $16.95 and although he has a record, nothing showed up! Unhappy, hubby called and spoke to an agent about the $16.95 charge which they said they would refund and cancel the service. Not only did they not cancel the service, they continued charging us, for NOTHING, not 1 piece of info!

    I called again and strangely enough they didn't have record of us calling the 1st time, nor the cancellation! So, over $60 in the hole and no information on his background check, which we know is not squeaky clean! Just waiting for the 10th of June to deal with this mess again. Do not use this company! My husband is calling again and again until we get a representative that will refund our money! Now we know better...

    I purchased what was supposed to be 1 day use for $1.99. No e-mail confirmation with information about what I purchased. I got a bill on my credit card for $19.99. I thought it was just for that month... bad enough. Next month I got billed for another $19.99. I called and was told that I had purchased a 7 day trial with automatic subscription. They would NOT refund any of my money. That's a lot of money considering all I wanted to do was look up one person. If they would have even refunded part of it, I wouldn't be writing a bad review.     Thought the service would be helpful, enticed by a discounted 6 month plan offer, but disappointed with the limitation that were described upfront. Basically I realized that the system is not counted searches that one person really has in mind, but any profile opening is considered a search. So when I am looking for a common name, and a laundry list appear as a result of a search, I need to open several profiles to figure out whether it is the person I am looking for. All those count as one search each. I was blocked after 100 (per month but reached much earlier) and asked to upgrade and pay more...

    Quite deceptive. I managed to find 3 names (with 100 profiles opened) :( and need to wait for next month to get another shot at it unless I pay more. Not at all what I expected and I have no idea yet whether the information I found is accurate or not. I do not recommend it for somewhat common names searches. Unusual name searches may work better.

    I received a response from Eli **, a Customer Care Supervisor at Spokeo apologizing for "any confusion" regarding their quotas, and explaining that the 200 search quota is an upgrade that was available AFTER I purchased my initial subscription of the Premium Plan, (which had no mention of a 20 search limit.) And they did issue me a refund, for which I am grateful. He also said that Spokeo is now using a Universal Quota, which hopefully will keep down the confusion and let customers know exactly what they are getting for their money.

    I might try Spokeo out again in the future if they keep their "All Access Plan". If I do, I'll review again. For now, I'll update my star-rating for my refund.

    On Sept. 6, 2016, I signed up on the Spokeo website for what was represented as an "all access" 6-month search plan for $29.70. Soon after I entered the site, I discovered that I was only able to access the e-mail search, and would have to pay extra for any other searches that I wanted to make. I immediately emailed Spokeo an email that began, "Good Evening, a few minutes ago I signed up for a plan which was represented as if it was an 'all access plan'." I explained in the email that since I didn't get what I thought I was buying, I wanted to cancel the membership, expecting that my $29.70 would be refunded. However, later that night, I received a reply from Spokeo that they had disabled the automatic renewal, but that they had not generated a refund.

    I was not very interested in email searches, and the Plan Specifications for the Premium Plan that I bought gave me 200 searches, so on 10/27/2016 I went ahead and added the Name Search also for an additional $17.15, thinking that at least maybe I could find some old friends. For the first few searches everything went fine, until November 1, when I had done 20 Name Searches. Then I got a message that I could only do 20. I sent a message to Spokeo, asking why I could only do 20 Name searches when my plan specified that I could do 200? The reply from the Spokeo representative said: Their subscriptions are initially offered for a "single search type." My subscription allows a quota of 20 searches per month. "If additional search types are needed, you can purchase them at a prorated cost. In addition, we show that this account did not have a 200-Email Search service."

    The next day, on 11/3/2016 I emailed Spokeo back and told them that I wasn't trying to be difficult, but a mistake had been made on my account, and I would appreciate it if someone would look it over and fix it. I had a screenshot of the Plan Specification that was in effect when I bought the membership to Spokeo. It showed 200 E-Mail Searches per Month. I also had a screenshot of the Plan Specification that described the Premium plan on THAT VERY DAY, and it showed 20 searches EACH to NAME, EMAIL, PHONE, and ADDRESS. It was described as an "ALL-IN-ONE-BUNDLE". In response, Spokeo's email back to me said, "Upon review of the account I can confirm that the Name Search subscription purchased on the account was for a limit of 20 searches," and basically repeated what the previous email had said.

    I was so frustrated with this bunch! There seemed to be no way in heck to get them to listen, to look, or to even TRY and understand logic. But on February 27, 2017, I thought I'd try ONE MORE TIME. I sent a message and just said, "I know what I paid for, I know what I was supposed to get, I know what I didn't get, and somebody there needs to do their job and look at what I'm saying!" I sent both screenshots again, and told them that I paid for 200 searches. I did not get them. The plan was changed. But I did not receive the benefits of the new plan either, SO, I actually paid a total of $46.85 for 20 e-mail searches per month + 20 name searches per month. AND IF Spokeo still insists that my plan did not include the 200 name searches per month, but instead was the new Premium Plan, which included 20 Name, Email, Phone and Address searches, then please refund me my $17.15 that I paid for the Name Search add-on to my plan.

    Spokeo promptly refunded me the $17.15, which means that they FINALLY understood that they had changed their plan, but they didn't give ME the plan I paid for. Even after they changed to the “All Access Plan” I could only perform 20 Email and 20 Name searches per month. This was a total ripoff, and one of the most frustrating experiences with a business’s customer support that I have ever had.

    When I first noticed a charge of $19.95 to Spokeo on my Visa statement today, I didn't even know what Spokeo was. I had to call the company to find out, and discovered I had been enrolled into a monthly subscription after paying 95 cents to look up one number on Sept. 14, 2016. I guess I didn't realize I was signing up for a 7-day free trial that would automatically convert to a monthly subscription if I didn't cancel it within a week. I am embarrassed to admit that I didn't catch that recurring monthly charge of $19.95 from Spokeo on my credit card for 7 months.

    My story does have a happy ending, though, with the company ultimately refunding the full $139.65 I had been charged since September. I'm rating the customer service 4 instead of 5 stars, because it took me three phone calls with three different customer service representatives to reach that result. The woman with whom I spoke during my initial call told me I was stuck with the charges, but that I would have access to the service for the rest of the month I had paid for (through April 21). When I asked if she could please refund at least some of what I had paid for the service I didn't realize I had and that I had only used that one time in September, she told me the best she could do was refund $9.98.

    I decided I might as well get some use out of the service I'd paid for by doing some searches tonight, but I kept being told on the website that I would have to pay for them. I made another phone call to find out why, and this customer service representative said that, because I'd been refunded $9.98, my access had been cut off as of today. I asked if she could do anything to at least give me the access I'd been told I'd have for the remainder of the billing cycle, and she said she would discuss it with a supervisor.

    While I was on hold, I decided to search the Internet to see what kind of experience others had had with Spokeo, which led me to this site. One of the first reviews was from someone who had the same story as me (unnoticed recurring monthly charges of $19.95 for a subscription he didn't realize he had), but who had been given a full refund of all monthly charges. When the customer service rep came back on the line to tell me that she could do the searches I had tried to do for me, I pointed out the review I'd just read. I told her I didn't really need to search anything and would rather be given a full refund like the man who wrote the review. Back to the supervisor she went, and she came back with an offer of a refund for February and March. I asked if she could do better and she threw in January.

    After I hung up, I read more reviews and discovered from a review posted less than a month ago that someone else who was unknowingly charged $19.95/month for TWO YEARS for a Spokeo subscription she didn't realize she had was given a full refund of all charges she'd paid. I called Spokeo a third time, explained my situation to a very pleasant representative named Rose, read her the review of the woman who was refunded two years worth of charges, and said that I would like to receive the same level of customer service as the reviewer and be given a full refund. Off she went to consult with her supervisor and, lo and behold, she came back and told me they would refund all of my charges going back to September.

    The moral of my long-winded story is to be persistent and say that you would like to receive the same high level of courtesy and customer service that the people who had written positive reviews were given (arming yourself with at least one or two to read to them) - AND - be sure you know exactly what you are getting yourself into when you do your initial search on Spokeo!

    Was actually given a refund for the full two years this card and as my husband pays the bills, I had no idea about this charge. I don't know if I just didn't read the fine print in the agreement or not, but I complained to Spokeo and asked that two years of monthly payments be refunded. The company could see that I'd never accessed their services during that period and refunded the entire amount without a hassle. I was amazed at this level of customer service and have complete faith in their trustworthiness. Outstanding customer service. I won't hesitate to do business with them in the future.

    I tried one of the trial plans. There was no information on that was available, and I cancelled within the required time. It supposedly cancelled the plan, I was charged for the initial search. Now I found out I have been paying for it for the past 2 months. Bad business model, when they tell you it is cancelled and it has not been.

    I signed up for to look something up one time. Spokeo instead charged me $19.95 and $9.85 for continuing a subscription I did not sign up for. My experience is the same as at least five other users during the month of March 2017 alone. And these five people are the ones who took the time and trouble to write a review. Luckily, I challenged this with my credit card company and was able to have the charges reversed. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

    Without realizing that I was being charged month after month, which was my own fault by not checking my statements regularly, they still refunded me the entire amount of all those charges, without any argument and I appreciated that. The lady on the phone was very friendly and helpful and I didn't expect that either when I made that phone call. I really don't enjoy making these types of phone calls. I can't give them a 5 star review however. Simply because their pricing information (last year, maybe now it's better) is not very clear to me. Oh well, live and learn.     Everything on there was useless. I already knew everything that was shown and the information provided was completely out of date. I made an account on some sites it claimed to look up using my email and names and everything and it still couldn't find it. I don't think they actually search through what they claim to search. I wish I could get my money back but I know they will just call me or something and try to talk for hours convincing me it's a good site but it's crap. Total rip off.

    Spokeo service is dishonest and tricks you into spending money for no results!! They tricked me into paying for information after showing me a free report that didn't have what I was looking for. But after I pay for it and followed the link, there was less information there than I saw in the free results they sent me. It said in the free results that if I pay, they would show me the name of the person with that phone if it's available. But in the report I paid for, there's not even a field for the person's name. Instead, they asked me to pay more money for what I thought I already paid for. How can the possibly NOT know that there is no more information before tricking me into paying? Sites like this should be against the law. They just take advantage of people.

    I am horrified by the experience I have had with Spokeo and what I have been able to research online in regards to their business practices. In Oct of '16 I used the site for a one time search of a phone number for .95. I did not agree to a subscription/membership/monthly charges or authorize any of those things. For 5 months I was charged 19.95 a month for a membership I didn't sign up for. I made the mistake of not reading through my charges in detail. However I did not agree to sign up for this membership.

    After multiple failed attempts to contact Spokeo in an effort to have this resolved at the source I filed a fraud claim with my bank to have the roughly $100 credited. Spokeo credited 2 charges and my bank is holding me responsible for the remainder because Spokeo is claiming they have documentation showing I authorized those charges. It defies logic that I would pay a flat rate fee of .95 for a phone number, knowing that I am now signed up for a 7 week trial that then turns into a subscription or membership. Had that been the case, I would have instead chosen the subscription at $4.95 a month. Neither my bank nor Spokeo can provide me with the above mentioned documentation proving that I authorized these charges.

    Since my bank is no longer able to help me, I again contacted a supervisor at Spokeo. I am now told there is nothing they can to do access the account or process anything for 90 days since I initiated a fraud charge. They said I can have my bank contact them again. However they will still affirm that I authorized the charges. So now, I basically have no recourse. Here is what makes this a scam:

    All charges on the bank statement (verified by the bank) are showing as "One Time Charges". Had this been a subscription I agreed to, one would think they would show up as "recurring" charges. I was told no one can touch my account while the fraud charge is in place. However Spokeo WAS able to credit me for 2 of the 5 charges while this process has been underway. Not once have I received a receipt, confirmation email regarding my subscription or any acknowledgment of the service I have signed up for. Most companies typically want to thank you for your business and acknowledge the transaction. Failing to do so implies that they do not want to remind you or even acknowledge what has been processed.

    Each month as the one time charge of 19.95 went through, Spokeo tried to charge a duplicate amount of 19.95, so basically double charge in one day. My bank denied the second charges each month. I have no active login or login information. How can I have an active subscription without the ability to access my membership, that I supposedly set up? If I received a credit for 2 of the 5 payments, acknowledging they were not authorized, how then can you justify the remaining 3 payments and imply those are valid?

    I'm not posting this under the assumption that this is going to get fixed because quite frankly I'm sure they make a massive amount of money off of this scam. I just hope people read this in the future and stay far away from the site. I'm sending this same information to the Better Business Bureau in hopes that they will be aware of what is going on with this company. After contacting Spokeo there should have been some type of resolution, especially considering I have yet to access my account or even utilize the service.

    I needed to search a troubled boy in our class to see what all he is involved in online. I searched his name AND email. It didn't even know he was alive and had an inaccurate address for his parents. Then I searched myself for kicks. It didn't know I was alive either! I have multiple social accounts through my email and am a legal resident of the U.S. I was BORN HERE! But for $13, my search produced... "0 results"!     In the late 1980s, hurricanes had torn our Caribbean island to pieces. Business closed, friends left for a better life. A good friend of ours left for better places and we went to Cal.     When I searched myself on Spokeo by address, the info listed was completely inaccurate!! Although the site does state that accuracy is not guaranteed, Spokeo listed a deceased person living at my address, a person who was a previous resident currently living there, and listed my name 3 times!! I rent this property, and I am the only one living there... I have been so far unsuccessful in removing the inaccurate info from my address listing, even though I followed all directions... Don't know what to do about it.

Perhaps filtering by last known cities would help because there are so many of them and it leads to wasted searches. The site said I could try it for free for 30 days but demanded a credit card number, then denied me because there was only $100 of available credit on the card that I used (which I deliberately used). If it's "free", why did they care if I didn't have enough credit to cover more than 3 months of access? If an actual charge is attempted and denied, then simply cancel my service but if they REALLY weren't going to charge me for 30 days, then there should not have been a problem. The whole thing just felt really shady to me!

    I paid for a Spokeo membership to look up numbers and/or names and unfortunately am not getting what I have paid for. Most of the numbers I have looked up give me no information. And sadly, I have used google and received better information - and Google is free. As for the names, I have frequently received incorrect information.     At first, very please with their service. I paid about $40 every 6 months and happy. All of a sudden, I was billed into their costly enterprise service for businesses. I am retired and don't nor ever have had a business. In attempts to sort this out, the representative said I would have to pay the additional amount and when expires, would go back to regular fee. And yet, it was NOT cancelled and at the end of the 6 month period, I was billed once again for the high business rate. I didn't know how to fight this and in order to maintain my $40 service, I decided to pay the much higher amount. I estimated Spokeo charged me roughly about $1,000. A complaint official can see all this documented in my account.

    I vaguely remember visiting Spokeo.com to have a one-time phone number search done. It cost $1.95. Subsequently, since April 2016 my credit card has been charged 19.95/month from this company without my knowledge or consent. If there was small print somewhere that I missed, it was done in a very unethical and not upfront manner. I do not have any use for a monthly subscription to a search company and would never have knowingly agreed to pay for one. I have paid $200.00 to them for NOTHING. I have never used them again. This is infuriating to me. I have reported their charges as fraudulent to my credit card company.

    What a terrible way to do business! From reading other reviews, it seems like they offer a valuable service to some who may need searches. I am not one of those people. Why do they have to be so sneaky and unethical? They need to refund my money or I will be writing reviews to inform the public of their scam on every online forum I can find. Shameful!!
