They Scammed me out 29.95. I never signed up and won't give me a refund. I'm going to call them every day for a year and tell them how shady they are. They said they issued the refund and lied once again.

Wouldn't let me cancel my 7 day trial which led to a monthly subscription of $29.95. I would not recommend them as I will be canceling my card. I am also angry about the customer service being not existent. I wish someone could take this website down.

I did not receive the promised information, and no refund will be considered. Spokeo is predatory and not customer-focused. You should contest the credit card payment. They claim they are fair, but that is a blatant lie.

Couple years ago, I agreed to & purchased a one-time lookup through Spokeo, NOTHING MORE & these crooks helped themselves to $25/mo of my money for more than a year! No wonder they don’t give review options on any of their sites & has to be done 3rd party…they know they’re a bunch of thieves!

This begins with a lie. NOTHING is free here and all is deception. "Google" should have some scruples and not permit "sites" on their portal. Contrary to their claim, this site provides NO FREE INFORMATION WHATEVER on information for which you are searching. Their $ terms are deceptive as well. You can rest assured, here, that your are wasting both your time and money. Furthermore, I am truly saddened that the web continues to permit deceptive sites to continue.

The information on Spokeo is 95% inaccurate. They listed a person from clear across the country with my last name as my relatives and I don't know that person at all. My address was wrong, phone number, and everything. I'll never use spokeo again.

Limited, outdated and same repetitive information. Additional charges if you want further information and you still may not receive information they imply is available. After realizing this is a waste of time and money I decided to cancel. Should be easy with one click but was not an option. Took about 10 min to finally close account.

Bought a 0.95$ report, they hid that it's also a $30 membership. I found out about this after they already charged me. Then you try to cancel it on their website and there is literally no option to cancel.

After participating in a sale Spokeo was having, I decided why not. Purchased a cheap subscription with the intent of canceling after I found was I was looking for. But to my surprise, I could not find anywhere to cancel the subscription on their website via android chrome browser. So I set a reminder for a notification 2 days before billing. Not only did I not receive this notification, but was also charged 2 days before my billing date. I was very agitated and called customer service to cancel my subscription and get a refund. I almost didn't get a full refund, but after explaining my frustration and some patience I was able to get my full refund. I DO NOT suggest using this platform for any reason whatsoever!

I recently used Spokeo to run a single report on someone, but it turned out to be the wrong person. I attempted another report, unaware that Spokeo had quietly signed me up for a subscription. If I had actually purchased a subscription, why would I be paying for individual reports in the first place? Unfortunately, I didn’t notice the charges until a full year later—$29.95 deducted from my account every month, totaling $359. When I contacted customer service, the initial “solution” offered was a single month’s refund. After pushing back, they increased it to $89.95. When I requested the full refund and asked to speak to a manager, I was told I would receive a call within 24–48 hours. The manager eventually called, only to offer an additional $29.95. In the end, I recovered $119.90—still leaving me out $240 for a service I never used.
I never logged in, never ran a search, and never benefited from this subscription in any way. That alone should clearly demonstrate it was an accidental enrollment. Yet Spokeo chose not to make it right. To make matters worse, during my final call, the agent I spoke with—Nicholas, reference ID **—abruptly ended the conversation by saying, “Since I cannot do anything else for you, I am going to end this call,” and then immediately hung up. This was not only unprofessional but also reflective of how little regard they have for customer concerns.
Their business model relies heavily on misleading sign-ups and hoping customers won’t notice recurring charges. I’m usually very cautious about subscriptions, but their tactics are deceptive enough to slip by even someone like me. Stay far away from this company. Spokeo is not interested in serving people—they are focused solely on their bottom line, even if it means tricking consumers into subscriptions they never intended to purchase.

No I'm not a customer of Spokeo, someone used my phone while looking up numbers and didn't cancel is my understanding and now I'm stuck with the bill and what looks to be a subscription. Because of my background I do not use nor need to use these scam companies, that hope and pray you forget to cancel after using a service that's sub par.

Spokeo is a complete waste of time - while it advertises it is a free service, far from it. Searching takes forever and not worth the time and effort spent. At the end of their 20-minute process, it claims to have found the information you are looking for and shows no result unless you pay a fee. Can you say SCAM?

They tell you it's 95 cents to do a search then they want to charge you over $20, I believe it was $29, for a subscription that is hard to cancel. Like many websites this is just a ploy to make you spend your money needlessly. This is nothing more than a scam to steal your money through a subscription that's hard to cancel but in the end they still get your $29 instead of the offered surge price of $0.95. I always steer clear of businesses like this because it's obvious they're trying to scam your money.

I would give them less then one star but I can't. They are crooked as hell and nothing but a scam site. They don't give you anything. When you do buy one of their background or info spreads it's worthless knowledge achievable with a standard Google search. Do not let these crooks get your card info at all.

The free trial gave me almost no information. The information I was looking for was more money but you don't find that out until you get to the page telling you almost nothing. Then they charge you $30. for a subscription. The only notice I received of any charge is shown. And yes, I do believe this is a scam.

I used Spokeo to find someone who was stealing from my family. I paid for the free trial to see what I could find. I also did searches of people I know, and I know all their correct information. I was surprised of how much information, including my own, that was all incorrect. So much old info like addresses, phone numbers, even other states where I have lived and others I know, who do not live at any of the addresses I found. So disappointed, so the person I was searching for, how would I know the info is even correct? So I canceled my subscription, and then I was charged $30.00 for the month. I can't rely on them to provide the right info. I was only refunded a partial amount that they charged me. I wouldn't recommend spokeo at all. There are many other sites to choose from, so if you are looking for updated information on people, I'd suggest using a different service.

Terrible scam website. I paid 95 cents for ONE thing I was looking for.. ended up getting charged almost $30 to my card at 2 in the morning mind you.. I tried to log into my account to cancel the apparent subscription but suddenly, oh? They can't find my account. Convenient, huh? Thank God my bank flagged it as fraud and closed my card.

You can tell how much of a scam a company is by their deceptive tactics used in getting your business. I signed up to get a single phone number and ended up with $29.56 taken out of my account. But the real deception came when trying to "cancel" my "subscription". When they bury any links, you know it's a scam. I went searching on the site to get a receipt. The search failed. It is a website only focused on selling their cache of data - not providing information to the "customer" about their account. The 1 result I got on my search was useless and wrong.

I’ve used this site multiple times against my better judgment, because every single time the same thing happens. You try to cancel your subscription and you can’t do it on the website or it says you don’t have an active account. You reached out to customer care the day after you get the trial to cancel it and they can’t find your account either. But best believe after seven days they will charge your bank account without a doubt never fails.
They should be ashamed of themselves for this. Not to mention the shady way they try to reel you in only for you to find out after you pay for a trial or a regular subscription that is unless you’ve used them before, but they only give you the brief details on the report. You have to pay extra for every little single thing you want to know and it’s just ridiculous. The world is so full of money, hungry greedy people and scams, and these gluttonous people jump right in there with them. Shame on this company. I hope when they open their box of cereal to eat breakfast in the morning they find weevils in it, you know after they’ve taken a few bites

Bait and Switch! Non helpful customer service and deceptive website. They operate in a very scam-like way. I paid for the .95 cent 7 day trial and then noticed right away that I was also charged for a $19.95 apparently for a report that was not included with the trial. I immediately reached out to them via phone to request a refund since it was something that I did not want and did not access.
Their website is very deceptive and confusing. It is very unclear as to what is included with the trial offer and prompts you to click on a link that services with an extra charge. I spoke with customer service and told them that I must have accidentally clicked on a service with an additional charge and she told me that it was not refundable. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told no one was available. I did receive a call back but the supervisor who did not try to help me at all and basically said he could not give me a refund and wanted to show me how to access the report that I did not want. I reiterated to him that I didn't want the report and I wasn't going to use it. I only wanted the .95 cent 7 day trial offer. He basically said that he was ending the call and hung up on me.

Watch for FIRST TIME TRIAL for .95 CENTS! I found the person I was looking for and thought great price for one-time usage. Didn't see the first time trial for .95 cents. I bought it for .95 cents. Then, 8 days later, they charged me 29.95. READ and DOUBLE CHECK SITES LIKE THIS ONE! They shouldn't be allowed to do the first time trial or have prices for one-time usage.

I got the cheap one week trial and didn't find anything useful so I wanted to cancel and I couldn't find it in time to not incur the $30 charge. I tried again, took me about 20-30 minutes to find it - it's buried in the manage account area. I called and talked to Priscilla (agent ID **) and at first she was only authorized to give $11 - I told her that wasn't acceptable and she immediately went and talked to someone to get the full amount refunded. She was kind and polite - I think the customer service reps probably get a lot of calls like mine and I bet it's awful. Priscilla was calm and clear. I know it's common for businesses to hide the cancellation. Its a practice that should have been made illegal had we had adequate leadership in the US. But alas, here we are yet again bending over for corporate greed. Cancelling a service should be just as easy as it was to sign up - PERIOD.

Well I purchased Spokeo to look up my girlfriend's social media platforms to make sure she didn't have any dating sites and it gave me all her old ones from 14years ago. I then searched myself and it says I have none. I have a buuuuunch! Every home that was listed had names on there that I've never heard before in my life living with me. My 21 year old son is 29 on there with no social platforms and he has 7 and the list goes on..Total rip off and this site can ruin a relationship for inaccurate results and misinformation. I am going to the BBB with this because my personal information is false on here

Well, I was a victim of the old Spokeo scam, too. I had them research a certain piece of information and they provided it and I was charged $.95 which I was happy to pay, but then eight days later I am very unhappy to say that I get a notice that I am being charged $29.95. I immediately called Spokeo to find out what this charge is for and they said it is for the subscription service that I signed up for. Big problem. I never, I repeat, never, never authorized signing up for a subscription.
Spokeo Customer Service said they would refund the $29.95 and cancel the subscription. But by the time we got around to verifying that the money was going to be refunded to me, they were only saying they were refunding $11.98. I asked why they’re not refunding the entire amount and they basically just said it was their policy, and I just let it go at that because I am not in the mood to have the aggravation of arguing with people that I know already from the way they insidiously went from a $29.95 refund to a refund of $11.98.
So this was a painful lesson learned expensively, and I am putting this review out here in the hopes that before you use Spokeo you’ll see this review and know that there is a very good chance you’re going to get ripped off for a subscription that you never authorized. And I suggest doing a Google search for “Spokeo scams,“ and you will see that this very thing that I have described has happened to many other people.
And beware, when speaking to Customer service at first, they are very nice nice and say, "Oh we’ll refund the $29.95 and cancel your subscription, and then very insidiously. It moves into a section of the conversation where they’re mentioning, “I have processed that refund of $11.98.” You see, it goes from an initial putting you at ease by saying that they’re refunding the full amount of $29.95, and then it just kind of easily segues into them saying they’re processing a refund for a different amount. It was at this point that I knew that I had been scammed, and I knew it would be fruitless to try and talk to them any further, so I just let it go at that. But obviously, I’m not letting it go at that because I am letting you, the reader of this review, to have the benefit hopefully beforehand, or if you’re seeing this after you’ve already been scammed, just know that it happens to everybody.
It’s no excuse and I’m hoping that eventually enough reviews like this are going to attract the attention of the Federal Trade Commission and something will be done to compel by law that Spokeo will have to stop these secret subscriptions they sign you up for. Think about it, if I were the only one reporting this scam, it could be my fault for having done something stupid, and hitting the wrong button, but I don’t think so because I’m very careful about things like that, and the fact that there are many, many reviews just like this out there on various platforms, should show that there is definitely a pattern here.
For a really quick summary of how many complaints there have been on this exact scam, go to Google and choose the artificial intelligence (AI) search option, and put in as your search query something to the effect of, “Does Spokeo have a record of many complaints from many customers concerning being charged for subscriptions that the customer never authorized?”
