I Googled my name and Mylife.com shows my name with a canceled check on it with my driver's license number and signature made out to another person who hasn't given them permission to release to the public. Is all of this legal and how did they get the bank electronic picture of the check. Can I or the other person named on the check sue them?

I heard about "MyLife" on a commercial while watching a Fox News program. I got curious and decided to take a look. I looked up an ex-girlfriend and come to find out, it's nothing more than another "look at someone's records for a fee" scam. While you can see a range score (ie-2.00 - 4.89) when you look up your name, just like other personal records searches, you have to pay a fee or pay for a membership in order to get the details. It's no different than other personal info searches that scam your curiosity to find out juicy details on someone. Also, this company and its founder has its own history of civil suits made against them for bad business ethics. It wouldn't surprise me if they end up on an episode of American Greed one day.

Do not touch that website, it's a joke and thank goodness I was not stupid enough to pay for information that you could get at a courthouse or request any day of the week. Companies like this prey on people's obsession to get gossip based personal information on others. And it's really stupid to have two pages where you have to confirm that information obtained in the report must not be used to smear or stalk anyone when the free version doesn't give you anything at all. Trust me folks, stay away from MyLife. It's a waste of time and it's a scam. I am so glad I did not fall for such BS.

A friend told me about her account created on MyLife. Basically, they lied about her and purchased info from several scam organizations. They create hysteria by claiming members have criminal or arrest records. She told me to look and sure enough, six members of my family and I had the same BS. None of us are criminals or have served jail time. It is a scam to get you scared, purchase an account, and I refuse to do. Use the opt out email feature (email to privacy@mylife.com and have them remove your account) and report them to BBB and review them. Their practices are unethical and illegal. Do not buy any membership.

Do not waste a dime on this company. Their call center staff is incompetent and trained to lie. Their supervisors are completely useless and initially refused to cancel my 'account'. NONE of the information about me on their website is correct. Worst of all, they've refused to refund my money, even after 'supervisors' promised 3 times that they would. It's been almost a month since the initial request. I am a single father with a 7-year-old daughter and on a tight budget. This company has caused irreparable harm and mental anguish to both myself and my daughter. I have contacted the ICO in London as well as the Attorney General in California. Did somebody say 'class action' lawsuit? Count me in. MyLife.com needs to be put out of business before they lie, cheat and steal from one more person.

I tried the $1 subscription, tried it out for a few minutes and was nothing as the product was described. I immediately cancelled my membership. I was yet charged again by this company $14.95 six weeks later. I called the number provided and had to participate in surveys, I simply wanted this taken care of. I was hung up on thirteen times. Spoke to a female rep who said she would not cancel my account and hung up the phone. Called back again. Spoke with a gentleman who confirmed my account was not cancelled nor was it noted I called to cancel. He did cancel. Asked for location of the company. He advised me they were located in the Philippines and offered no additional information with the exception my account was cancelled. They give you a trial period, but make you pay to keep a monitor or to correct much of the information that is wrong. The initial payment is much higher than they stated and then they billed me again a week later. That trial period is how these people make a killing because many people forget to shut off the auto renewal and they bill you for much more than stated. Then it’s too late. You shouldn’t have to pay so much to correct INCORRECT information about yourself.

A Class Action Lawsuit should be opened against this company. I just learned that it is reporting that I have a criminal record, and that is an absolute lie. I've never been arrested and am a law-abiding citizen. This is definitely slander. After reading the information on this site, you can see it is clearly done by total amateurs who don't know what they are doing. It is not professional. It reads like it is written by a 10-year-old child. If the information is not verified as being correct, it should not be posted on this site as being factual. And they even charge people to get these false reports from them. This site should be taken down for posting lies about people.

When I tried to cancel on the weekend, I noticed that I was now being charged for a full 3-month membership. When I called to cancel the membership, I was told I was too late, even though this was the first business day after the trial period ended. This place is a ripoff - make sure you cancel immediately if you get a trial membership. I will never use them again - one search cost $30.

Despite great effort to keep all personal info off any such sites, MyLife has me looking like a questionable thug! Red markings around potential legal troubles irk me most, but what you'd find there is one divorce record. My credit is and always has been excellent... In short, as far as their "reputation score", mine should be right at the top. I've been in the position to have blanket access to people's business that even a law enforcement officer could not get without a warrant, so this is pure bunk. I give MyLife a reputation score of 1, and that's simply because there isn't anything lower possible! This outfit needs to be shut down, at the minimum, and sued at best.

This site has information about me that is wrong, and the. They charge you to sign up to edit it but then keeps sending emails asking for personal details about your life, job, education, family, phone numbers and address etc and that would help raise your score and I just was naive as I am a senior citizen and I was worried that my reputation was being hurt in community. My credit score is excellent but apparently my reputation score is 1.8 out of 5! They listed details that are more than 20 years old and expect me to comment to raise protect my name when neighbors and colleagues look me up. I signed up for a week subscription for $1 and then canceled after my score didn’t change and I stupidly entered a lot of personal information. But my credit card was charged for 14.95 and I have no idea if it will keep being charged.

I am scared about the information they have and may use to scam me more. They published my email addresses and just had a ton of wrong information under my name. This is slanderous, extortion and senior scamming. I keep getting emails that people are reading my profile and I need to give them information about my neighbors to improve my associates! I live in a nice neighborhood and all many of my neighbors are listed as associates with bad reputation scores and I don’t even know who them, but doubt that they are low life’s. Once I found my listing I contacted the company to get off their registry. Note that I did NOT give them permission to mine, share let alone sell any of my information out there. Their claim is that they want to make it easier for people from your past to find you. Right. They don't give you an opt out. So don't fall for the "Well I will get a quick subscription to set this straight". They don't deal in "free". A gazillion reviews here attest to that AND when you sign up you have to agree to their terms. Once you do that you've signed a contract. That screws everything up.

So here is what I did. I sent an email to removalrequests at [the website in question] and asked to have my listing removed (include the listing link). Use a bogus email account since you don't want them to add your actual beloved email to their database (they sell that remember). You'll get a canned response stating that your Removal Request should be processed and completed within 7-10 business days. Within the hour you will get another email. That one is also canned but looks like customer service made more of an effort and they inform you that "Unfortunately the information on your Public Background page cannot be removed as it is gathered from public records, government, and other public sources for the purpose of helping people learn more about others for business, dating and other reasons." + some bla bla about how you can regain control by signing up. That's a contradiction. Don't get mad but get determined.

I then followed the steps provided on this YouTube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62NOuRk_FYc (I won't take 3 minutes but the steps are legit and get results) and filed complaints with both the BBB and the FTC. Depending on how much time you have you can also file a complaint with the CA Attorney General's office. Once you do that you get email confirmations and a case number. They will contact the business and all future resolution goes through messaging on their site. Keep using that goofy email since they warn you that the complaint info can be published. Keep the details limited and reference the initial email ref number mylife.com gave you (see above). State that you want the listing removed in perpetuity and no further direct contact from the company. 3 full days after that initial email I got a response through the BBB messaging system. The link had been removed. Voila.

Some channels suggest you call. That's great if you wanna yell at someone but there is no paper trail and that's a problem considering these guys can't be trusted at their verbal word considering the written version is already contradictory. They are located in CA. FYI, "The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) provides consumers with the right to opt out and stop businesses from selling their personal information. The CCPA opt out provision is one of several in California’s new privacy law that goes into effect on JANUARY 1, 2020 and will be enforced by the California Attorney General starting at the latest on July 1, 2020 per the SB 1121 amendments."

So they can mess with you and try to convince you to take control over your information (that they appropriated and disseminated without your consent), steal your money by charging you and making you accept the terms of service until then. The steps above is how you fight back. Extra note of warning: Creating a free account to change your data is super limited in scope and still forces you to accept their terms + if you check out their FAQs at https://www.mylife.com/help check out items #24 & #25 before you do:

    24. Does Purchasing a MyLife Membership allow me to remove the MyLife Profile about me? Purchasing a MyLife Membership does NOT allow you to remove any profile pages from the MyLife.com website. With a MyLife Premium Membership you can hide certain details from being shown publicly, but you are not permitted to delete or remove any pages.

    25. How much does it cost to remove the MyLife profile page about me? There is no charge for removing a MyLife Profile Page, but we do reserve the right to deny your removal request. This is a shady company, but what upset me the most is that my search results included access to all of my neighbors' profiles though I only searched my name. With one click, I could have all publicly filed information on each and every neighbor. One neighbor even had a red tag next to his name reading "Criminal records found." I am very friendly with this neighbor and his family. He is NOT listed as a sexual predator, so why does all his neighbors need to know he committed a crime? Who cares?

First of all, the quality of the information provided in a MyLife "background search" is very, very low. Search your own name to find out just how erroneous it can get. Second, the "free trial" they offer turns out to be difficult if not impossible to cancel. I ordered their 8 day "free trial," which gave a number to call if I elect to cancel before the end of the trial. I called before the trial period was up only to find out they had already charged my credit card for a full year subscription. Not a month, not three months, but a full year.

The "customer service rep" was, I assume, located in another country. She said, "NO," they could not refund my money. "You signed up for a full year, Ma'am," she said. I said, "Yes, you can refund my money. Your offer said you will, so please credit my account immediately for the amount you have withdrawn." She said, "I can't do that, but what I can do is modify your membership to one month, for $14.99, ok?" I said, "No, not OK. The deal was that before the 8 day trial was up, I could call to 'cancel'. Nothing in the description said that I could not cancel or that I had to pay for one month." Then she said, "The only thing I can do now is offer you a reduced price on the one month subscription, for $10. Ok?" "NO. Not ok," I said. "If you can reduce it to $10, you have the power to reduce it to zero, so please do that right now."

She put me on hold then, came back after several minutes, and said she would give me a refund. I asked her the amount. She quoted the full amount of $74.95. I said, "When will I see the credit on my account?" She said, "In several days," and claimed it was up to my bank, and then said, "Be sure not to stop payment with your bank as that could interfere with the refund process, ok?"

It's clear to me from this exchange that each of their poor little customer service reps are trained to perpetrate a scam. They are trained to straight up deny what the website offers, and to instead insist that we were somehow already informed or should have known that we were buying a year's membership and that any refund of that amount is not allowed, only a "modification of the membership," the minimum of which is one month at $14.99. With all the time and effort they put into this scamming and scam-training of their employees, why don't they just run a quality service?? I see no reviews of this company that do not consist of COMPLAINTS, all of which echo what I have noted here. Clearly, this is their "business model." Is this even legal??

They gather public information, attach it to your name without verification (with lots of mistakes--God help you if you have a common name), and present innocuous information as red flags on your reputation (traffic citations listed only as "criminal offense", etc.). They have done the same to your family members and neighbors and associate any "red marks" they think might possibly maybe be in their past with you. Then they use this claptrap of a profile to determine a "reputation score" for you that they publish to the world. It's defamatory. I called customer center. An man with thick Indian accent answered. I asked him, "Who gave them permission to reactive the membership?" He promised me that they will change it and they will "forever" charge me. In conclusion, the company hires Indian people to answer your questions with poor customer service skills. However, when I went back a second time, after refusing to join, my "score" was then 1.85. Clearly this was an attempt at manipulating / intimidating me to join, so as to correct my poor "score." I was looking for contact information about someone and this site popped up in my search. The site makes you wait while 'processing' your request, giving you a status while you wait implying that it is searching through tons of public and private records, then finally asks for your credit card information at the end of the search before revealing anything. It does give you some minimal information for free - along with a 'reputation score'. On a whim, I searched on my own name and found that it revealed neighbors I don't even know with court records affecting my "reputation score"! Also shows me 'related' to an ex-husband's ex-wife I have never met, shows incorrect past names (mis-spellings), and incorrect financial information (net worth and salary - which I don't care to expose anyway!)

I called the company and asked that I be removed from the site and was given a sales pitch and told that removing me would not correct information that is out there on other sites (duh)... but they finally acquiesced, I think. We'll see... they said it would take some time to process. Just confirms that there is a ton of misinformation out there on websites and you have to know your sources before relying on anything! First of all - the bad info on you is put there ON PURPOSE. You will have to pay for the rest of your life to "hide" it. Second: Once you give them the $1.00 fee (AND MAKE SURE YOU CLICK AT THAT TIME "DEACTIVATE AUTOMATIC RENEWAL") THAT $1.00 fee is how they grab your credit card number and charge it. I'm waiting to see if they charge me even though I deactivated the renew feature. After ONE day of use (I should have had 7 days) I was unable to login at all. THIS IS A COMMON SCAM: Grab $1 fee and then lockout your customer who has no idea this is a repeating charge. Even if you DID click "don't renew" as I did, they can still lock you out of the service you PAID FOR.

LESSON TO ALL OF YOU: These sites are here TO TAKE YOUR MONEY. Don't worry about reputation scores. Focus on your BBB rating, Yelp and DUNS Number for company credit score. Also - I have found that these companies are getting your info from FACEBOOK who makes money selling your info. STOP putting your personal info on facebook because hey - your REAL FRIENDS know you and anyone legit has a way to contact you. IN CLOSING: I'm watching this company and many others. The best you can do is hope for a class action lawsuit or for a change in laws.

HOW TO GET YOUR MONEY BACK FROM THESE SCAMMERS (and other sites like them) REPORT THE CARD YOU USED AS STOLEN - get a new one. Inconvenient yes, but do it. USE ONLY PREPAID CARDS online. Stop worrying "what people think of your report" because legit consumers and businesses should not be on these hokey online sites to background check you. You may have just lost some money if you paid into a site like this, and you did just what they wanted.

Best advice: no one really cares about your so-called "rating". If you're a business, worry about Yelp reviews and learn to build your business to attract quality customers. ALL OF THE INFO CHECK SITES ARE BOGUS - many are run by the same set of companies! Stop even CLICKING on their sites. Now, I'm waiting to see what MyLife.com is going to do with my investigation. I asked for a copy of their full report to be sent to me so I could verify it but they insisted I become a member first! It looks like they have just aggregated data from people with similar names. They claimed they could not do anything about the data since it was public records. The person I spoke with did not seem the least concerned that they had inaccurate data or that it was impacting a publicly posted "reputation score". Who knows what the impact has been when people see a low "reputation score"?

Then they make you go through this endless process of waiting to download your data. In order to correct the information they FALSELY publish to the world, you have to pay them a fee to join their website. I looked at my file and first they had me owning vehicles and property that are not mine, showing aliases I have never heard of, and criminal records that were clearly not mine. I called the company months ago and they were supposed to take my file down after I pointed the problems out. They did for about two weeks then it was back. I commented and asked them to clean it up. They said I had to but since none of the records are mine or where I live I have no standing to ask the clerks in the courthouses to even share data with me. None were mine except for a speeding ticket.

I have tried several times to get them to respond and correct the problems they have refused. Then they tried to charge me for another year after I canceled my account and had an email saying they did so. This site is poorly done, has no checks and balances, and lacks reasonable governance. When I saw that they had an amazing deal on their "service" ($1 for a short trial period), I couldn't help but sign up! But afterward, I realized it was a grave mistake. The information you receive about others isn't even accurate...assuming you even get any. The lack of information you find is alarming. You'll quickly find that it isn't worth your time or money. On top of that, they charge you a lot. After my $1 trial period ended, I got charged $25 every month. Actually, no. I got charged $40 because they would add another oddball charge later that month, every month and onwards. Such a scam. There are so many better things I could be spending my $40 on. This is not one of them.

Canceling your subscription, now that's an adventure! After going online and doing some research, I thought I had found the answer. But nope! It turns out that hitting a button that says it'll disable the renewal of your subscription doesn't actually disable it! And after calling them the first time, and getting nowhere, they actually ENABLED it again. Ugh, the nerve. Luckily, the second call when much better. I was actually able to get hold of a guy who seemed decent (and not rude). Before I knew it, both of the charges got refunded to me and my subscription was finally canceled...for good this time. I wish I had never signed up for this in the first place. At least next time I would've learned my lesson. This website is a joke, a scam, and should be taken down from the internet. Then they rated my reputation with a clock, with no backup to this decision, since they actually have no records about me. The reputation clock is also very prominent, so the buyer of the service can simply keep it as that, and get manipulated by a completely irrational result. I called them and got my dollar back, but as a regular person, meaning not being a lawyer, it looks like there is nothing that anyone can do to stop them on this business, which I personally consider illegal, since it's not a based on research and it doesn't have the permission of the people being searched on. This is the third time I have attempted to join MyLife and each time I am blocked from accessing my record/ account.

The lady I spoke with said that she updated my Reputation Score to 3.85 though I have yet to see it. I am frankly surprised that the Feds haven’t put MyLife.com out of business. It is the most corrupt business I have ever tried to work with or through. MyLife consistently posts bogus facts about people and they often don’t know it. I lost an employment opportunity last week because of the fraudulent information posted about me on MyLife.

I've not ever subscribed to this site, but ran across it and when I searched my name, it came up with the wrong last name, the correct address and a list of relatives that had none of my blood relations mentioned. My bio was completely wrong, except for my birthday, personal identifying information, which must make this garbage site a magnet for identity thieves. It gave a profile also for my husband, though claimed we were both single. The numerous errors on my profile indicate that most all of these profiles are garbage. MyLife needs to be put out of business. It's a total predatory garbage site. Don't trust one word on it.

MyLife.com is a total fraud! Most of the info in my profile is false. It says I have a criminal record and convictions which I do not. It also says I am connected to people that I am not. My rating is 2.17 and with all of the false negative info I believe this could be hurting my business as I am a freelancer and people can research me and see this before deciding to hire me or not. How can they be getting away with this?? And I would love to know if anyone has filed a class action lawsuit or anything I would join in on it. This site should be shut down immediately!!!

90% of the data on the site is complete nonsense because their data harvesting software is garbage. They will mix your data up with random strangers that used to live at your address, your neighbors, or anyone living near you. And if they had criminal records? It might just get tacked on to your profile. They pretend to care and offer a way to remove your profile from their site, but then demand monthly payments to hide it from their listings. This is straight up felony extortion. This company needs to be shut down and the CEO locked up.

Unfortunately, MyLife has TWO subscriptions and they hid the other one. I only signed up for ONE subscription, so I disabled that one. But they have cleverly hidden the other subscription and I hate to say it, I was bamboozled out of $19.95. I didn't sign up for 2 things, I signed up for ONE. I've never seen anything like this in all my life and I'm pretty cognizant how these subscriptions work. I should have looked more closely, but it will never happen again. Hopefully, other people will read this and not make the same mistake I made.

I paid $1.00 for 1 week then charged me the $1.00 but $24.95 & $26.95 for services I never asked for or received. I called to cancel after a long wait and was informed that by refund would come in 2-3 days. A few days later, they said the original person entered it incorrectly and it would be another 5-7 BUSINESS days. That's bull... I opened a PayPal resolution center complaint and posted a link from this site. I only wish I had done some homework before signing up for the MyLife service... WARNING STAY AWAY FROM MYLIFE.

I called to cancel after another 35 minute wait & was told by a Vel to wait for another 10 minutes for him to cancel. I will be watching my credit card for these credits as I don't trust this company at all. I told Vel I suggested he get a real job because I found many blogs on how bad this company was. I was told that the credit would take 5-7 days. Funny because it only took them 1 day to charge me.

When I called them they refused to refund my money???? Denied I had cancelled the account. I had not used the account since the trial period expired. Only reason I looked at it as it had my husband listed with criminal record... He does not and the record did not show anything. Total ripoff from a company taking advantage of public. Stay away. I had a one week trial membership. I signed up for that because I saw I had a “criminal alert” on their site that I knew was wrong - turned out it was for a ticket I received in 2000 for having muddy, and thus unreadable, license plates! I have never had a criminal record, just a speeding ticket when I was 16, (I am now 58), and a few parking tickets. They say they have a way that you can ask for things like this to be removed. I did this, but it was not removed. When I called Customer Service to inquire the representative was very unhelpful and bordered on rude. She said it would take longer to review. After this complaint my score inexplicably went down 13 points! (Could only have been retaliatory as nothing had changed.)

Additionally, the site had extensive wrong and/or extremely outdated information, including listing many individuals in my “Friends and Family” section that I have never heard of and stating that my ** friend, who is of the Baha’i faith, was ** and Christian. You are not allowed to correct any of this information, you can only “lock” it from public view, which I did. The next day is was all, again inexplicably, unlocked. I strongly suggest having nothing to do with MyLife. Don’t believe anything you see there or anything their personnel tell you.

I called for information on pricing purposes only. I asked about pricing and I was told it depends on where I live which makes no sense at all nor was it explained when I asked. I simply stated again, that I wanted more control over my @ MyLife page and didn't want to do a background report. She said in order to sign up I needed to do a background report on myself first then prices and options would pop up.

Nowhere on the Mylife site did it say what this rep was telling me. I told her I would call back another day because what I was seeing on the site was very different than what she was talking to me about. I wasn't getting my answers because my concern is they allow anyone to go on your page and write anything they want falsely and get away with it. So then they charge you however much to have control over what people write. Something's setting bells and red flags off in my head because the website and the rep I talked to were talking apples and oranges. I'm going to call back another day and ask questions. I would be very careful.

These people want to con you so they can charge high rates without your permission and use a fraudulent waiver to indemnify them of any wrongdoing while doing as they please with your credit card and so-called "reputation". Then when you call them out on it, they want to argue and tell you "Well, you signed up for the service" knowing full well the shadiness of it. It is more than obvious (and he even admitted it) that they deal with customers with the exact same complaint repeatedly on a daily basis. Hmmm...then maybe there is something wrong with THEM.

Total scam. My credit card was charged several times without my knowledge and had I known the truth about this "service" and their practices, I would never have ventured onto their site at their invitation. They are evil and I know I will have to cover the other end by notifying my credit card company not to accept any of their charges because I won't be able to trust they will not continue.

Stumbled upon MyLife by accident. Googled my friend's name to see if her Obituary had been listed yet. I was shocked at what MyLife showed on her, it was all FALSE. This prompted me to search my name, which turned up more falsehoods.... I called them to have my information removed, not even sure what it is because I refuse to pay them money. Shows that I have a negative review, an arrest, and a 1.8% rating. Nothing it displayed for free was correct.

On the first call, the recording said I was 18 in line, and hold time would be 28min, as soon as I was 1st in line, it disconnected. I called a 2nd time, recording also said I was 18 in line and there would be a 28 min wait. Upon 2nd call I actually got a person, very poor language, could not even understand her name as Shannon..I informed her how I came across the site, and got her Name & Operator #. I informed her that I was recording the call and want to have all of the false information removed. She told me I can NOT record the call, when I informed her that I was within my rights to record the call, as long as I informed her. She said "you can not do that and I won't help you" and hung up. It was Shannon, Operator # **.... If ConsumerAffairs & BBB does not address this, I am happy to join in a Class Action Lawsuit!!!

I'm currently looking for work and I was curious how my resume was being received by the on-line process. Making sure that I was able to overcome the initial resume formatting huddle complements of the technology of the Automated Tracking Systems. I was surprised I wasn't getting more responses. Then I find that some very malicious and totally false information was associated with my name after I typed it into a Google search. MyLife was the 1st site to pop up. To my shock and horror I was given a very low rating for reasons that were completely inaccurate and couldn't be justified in a common sense way let alone some complicated algorithm. It said that I had been arrested some 13 times in the last 15 years. I was floored.

It went further and stated that I associated with only known criminals. I own a sole proprietorship in Insurance and have never had an issue with customers or law enforcement. With the exception of one time that turned out to be a completely false charge. I even received a letter of apology from the District Attorney's office stating that, "In my case justice was not served." This entity had me down for 13 arrests, and all associates had been arrested and or served jail time. How this company remains in business is beyond normal. I called to have my information removed and receive a refund because you have to pay them to get this erroneous and damaging information taken off their internet site. They said they were giving me a refund and they did disable my information.

Still, haven't received my refund from the original charge of $26.99 then today I get hit again with a charge to my bank account. The problem is that once this misinformation and defamatory remarks are made online they are self-perpetuating. None of the volunteer work I do with the homeless is mentioned. None of my home ownership in Costa Mesa and Newport Beach CA are mentioned let alone the fact that my last name is very unusual and can't be blamed on some type of mistaken identity error. This leads me to believe that something has gone very wrong in corporate society. Because the culprit here is companies taking a sick or diseased idea to generate profits and applying poor skills to the problem.

The emphasis on quick returns using an unsustainable long term business model becomes terminal with the poor programming capabilities of the "whiz kids". I have yet to see one algorithm that does anything except take big data, stereotype behavior in a sloppy unsophisticated way that leads to invasion of privacy, misinformation, false results, and an utter lack of understanding behavior. This can't be useful. In the end, a generic conglomerate that develops this business model only negatively affects their own profits.
