When I found out that my company was preparing for a mass layoff I wanted to know my rights as an employee. I talked to an attorney on this site and they helped me identify the information I should look for in my contract and what questions I should ask in the event I was laid off.

Website offered a technical response for an appliance problem via email for $5.00. Once I signed up, gave credit card and listed problem. Expert did not answer question but wanted to call me for discussion for an additional $25.00. Would not approve phone call and after several attempts finally responded via email. Answer just confirmed my original question. Did not sign up for a recurring service but only for a one time answer.
Hello William,
Thanks for getting in touch with us about this. we're sorry to hear that you were unhappy with the service.
In looking into your account it appears that you were able to process your own refunds for the question, while we're sorry we couldn't help you resolve the issue any further, we're glad to see that the self refund feature was useful for you.
We will reach out to you privately to see if there is anything else that we can help you with but you can also reach out to us by email at support@justanswer.com or by phone at 1-800-590-5721 if either of those methods are more convenient for you.

My contact was made June 15 between 8-9 am. I got online with an attorney. (P ** in AZ). He asked for some detailed information. I sent him a question. The site then said he was busy. Then was redirected to an optional phone call. I thought I would be eventually talking to the same attorney he wasn't "busy" anymore. I was told it would be an extra $59 added to my original $30+. I agreed then found it was not the original attorney. He said he would cancel the $59 charge and I could talk to the original attorney. I tried to find out from him how I would get back to the original attorney. He gave no answer. There was no way for me to find the original attorney.
I clicked on tech support and You just get in an automatic loop "talking" to a supposed person, really a computer just asking the same stupid questions over and over to get you to an attorney, any attorney. I can see no option on the site to get my money back as they promise if you are not satisfied. Furthermore they start with saying it's a five dollar deposit but then all sorts of options pop-up and to continue on. It is not clear which option you are choosing. So apparently I accidentally chose the $30 plus option. I want every penny of anything I spent returned. I do not like this site. Feel it is purposely confusing but they feel you'll be happy if you get a decent answer So they run you through this game plan. They are no better than the fence company I'm going up against. What a waste of time and energy.
Hello Connie,
Thanks for getting in touch with us about this. I'm sorry to hear that you were having trouble staying connected with the Attorney that you had received a reply from.
We aren't able to locate an account with the information that you've provided to Consumer Affairs so we will be reaching out to you privately in order to gather that information.
Once we pull up the account, we can either get the refund processed for you or work to get you reconnected with the Expert.
In the mean time, if you'd like to reach out to our Customer Care team we can be reached using the Contact Us link at the top and bottom of any page. The email address is support@justanswer.com or by phone at 1-800-509-5721.

I was having a problem with my laptop. I searched for help in order to find an answer for my issue and I landed on a site called Just Answer which they can help on nearly anything so I asked a question for my problem, then they told I need to pay $5 to post the question. I paid the money. And when I got a reply from an expert about the issue I had, I was told that I needed to pay $37 to view my reply. It was too much for me and I left it, never saw my reply and lost my $5 and a couple days later, I check my bank account and I see that they have taken $37. And I don't know what to do now they have taken beyond my limit without my permission.
Hello Sese,
I'm sorry for any confusion about the good faith deposit. An initial $5 deposit is required at the time the question is posted and the balance of the question price is collected once an Expert responds to the question.
This information regarding the deposit is displayed on the page where the customer is prompted to submit their payment details and questions are posted only when the customer acknowledges and accepts the payment terms.
An Expert responded to your question which is why you received a charge for the balance due.
An overview of this process can be found on the How It Works page here: http://ww2.justanswer.com/how-justanswer-works
In looking at your account it appears that you were able to contact our Customer Care team and that the refund for both charges was processed the same day.

I have spent an hour trying to reach out to "JustAnswer". I thought I had contacted a tech for Canon but I got shuttled around to a site where I was quickly advised to pay $23.00 and then sat on hold for 20 min. The whole thing felt like a scam until I see all these other people have had the same experience. Hopefully you will straighten this out and return my $23.00.
Hello Linda,
We apologize for the confusion that you encountered. We do have technicians that can help you with a wide range of problems that might occur with Canon products but we are not affiliated with Canon.
At this time I can see that we've processed a refund for the charge back to your account and I will reach out to you privately to discuss any other account details.
Often the manufacturer will offer troubleshooting assistance or repair services free of charge for items still under warranty. You should be able to reach Canon on their Customer Support line at 1-800-652-2666.

They will not tell you the cost, just that you have to make a $5 deposit. The "chat" is some automated thing, not a person. I asked my question and the attorney told me he hurt his arm - they wanted me to pay $59 for a phone call. How many attorneys over there have bad arms, I wonder? I was told I have a response but I can't find one - I suppose I have to agree to something even more expensive. I was told the answer would come by email. I'm so sick of scams.

Maybe a difficult question in regards to a vehicle repair... but no response other than 2 questions asked by JustAnswer.com before a tech is suppose to respond... but this is the weekend. Lesson #1 for me... Always research the make, model and similar problems associated on a free forum before being snagged by outfits like this. #2 do not be mislead by a 7 day free trial as they will immediately want a credit card # and bill immediately. Thankfully mine was not a debit card and was billed through PayPal and believe me they (PayPal) heard about this one. Of course even then PayPal says I should try to resolve the issue with the service provider. Yeah, after reading some reviews on ConsumerAffairs... Good luck with that one... So either I resolve with PayPal or JustAnswer.com or the credit card co... but somebody ain't gonna get paid even if I have to cancel the credit card... A hard lesson learned.
Hello Gary,
I'm sorry about the confusion you experienced in posting your question to the site. I'll try and help clear a few things up here.
In looking at your account it does appear that a mechanic had replied to you about your Mitsubishi with a few trouble shooting question, however it doesn't appear that you had ever logged back in to reply to him.
Regarding the free trial, it does not appear that you had accepted the free trial offer, however, in order to do so we do require that customers link a valid payment method to their account before opting in.
I can assure you that we do stand behind our satisfaction guarantee and we have refunded the full deposit for the question back to your paypal account.

I had one simple question that I wanted to ask a lawyer. A lady came on the line and indicated she was going to connect me with a lawyer. I then saw a form that indicated that I needed to provide a $5.00 REFUNDABLE charge. That was a big mistake. I never received a $5.00 refund but instead I was charged $31.00 with no warning. I did not even wait for a response from this company because my phone rang right away from the Fraud Department at my credit card company. I hung up and declined the charge. They told me that I should close this credit card but I am traveling and need to use my card. I wish I would have closed it because now they have charged the card again which I will have to call back and decline the charge again. I would not use this company as they do not appear to be honest and up front. I should have had a choice if I wanted to pay $31.00 for simple advice. Very disappointed that I ever called this company.
Hello Edna,
I’m terribly sorry to hear about the confusion that you faced in posting a question to the site. Regarding the $5.00 deposit, an initial $5 deposit is required at the time the question is posted and the balance of the question price is collected once an Expert responds to the question.
This information regarding the deposit is displayed on the page where the customer is prompted to submit their payment details and questions are posted only when the customer acknowledges and accepts the payment terms.
An Expert responded to your question which is why you received a charge for the balance due, $31.00 in this case.
I hope this clears up the confusion about your charges.
At this time, since it seems you no longer need assistance from the attorney, we have closed your question and issued a refund for the charges that you incurred. You should see the funds back on your card in the next 3-5 business days at the most.
We will reach out to you privately to discuss any further details of your account.
Please let me know if you need any further assistance or if there are any other questions about the site that I can answer.

Firstly - About my rate of my experience. There is no provision for showing when an illegal act has been made upon any person, firm or corporation or I would have cited the law, and given a negative star rating. While viewing the JustAnswer website to understand how it worked, and various requirements of the site, plus unable to find any decent documentation of the complete 'wherewithal' I had to enter into the start of asking a question for a better understanding. Before I could even begin to see the setup I was required to put in my personal and financial information. I did see that they would charge $5.00 to enter into the site, but had seen where they claim there would not be a charge, or be given a refund if I was dissatisfied with the site, or response to my question. I did not worry about that part as I did not intend to ask any question, or use any of the so-called 'Experts' for additional charges.
I asked no question, or connected with any person, but was charged $28.00 for just going in to look things over. When I saw the charges on my credit card that were paid out, I attempted to file for a refund. There again I found a more serious problem with the website. There is no contact method unless a person becomes a member at which time the person must also enter their finance method. There is no manner provided for a person to contact any member of administration without first becoming a registered member, but the company has the ability to "steal" funds from that person.
Just because a person goes to the JustAnswer site is in no way any guaranteed intent to either join, or ask a question. It may also mean that they just want more information that any type of FAQ's can answer. JustAnswer should not be allowed, or have any provision where anyone must join and provide any financial information before having the provision for the person to ask questions of the Corporate administration. I can provide a copy of the charges leveled upon my credit card. No one should have to call for a refund. A mere contact statement should have the method to do so right in the website.

Original Review: May 19, 2017
I am feeling scammed. I have just sent my 5th email to JustAnswer customer service. In January I was having a computer/email problem that I couldn't resolve. I was looking for assistance and came across JustAnswer. So I decided to try them. I input my problem and the first thing they did was ask for 5 USD. I paid and tried to proceed but got nowhere fast. This may well have been a function of what was happening with internet services in my current country, rather than an issue with Just Answer.
However, I received absolutely no assistance with my problem and never went back to them. Recently I was checking my bank account and found JustAnswer had taken a further 35 USD out of my account for NO service and certainly without authorisation. Given that I had been unable to proceed with my request for assistance, this is, quite simply and completely, inappropriate.
I am currently attempting to get my money back but am getting the runaround. Initially, I was inundated with emails; 5 in the first 24 hours; with repetitive requests for the same information from different people. And one saying they "can't find my account." Well as far as I was aware I didn't have an account, so that is not a surprise, but they were still able withdrew money without authorisation and I want that money back. Since then I have heard nothing, now 2 days on. I don't know if this is a scam or simply a company with extremely poor business practices but I'm feeling absolutely conned. Since it was an unauthorised withdrawal for no service or product I have no receipt. The only thing I have is a copy of my bank account transaction receipt showing the withdrawal details.
Hello Diane,
We're very sorry for any frustration you've experienced. We checked your correspondence with our customer care team and found that your question was originally posted on a guest account. That means that the account did not have an email address, therefore you were unable to receive email notifications from our site when an Expert posted an answer for you.
We're very sorry it if feels like it took a while to have the issue resolved, it appears that it took a couple of email exchanges for the Customer Support team to get the necessary information in order to locate your account. At this time your account has been updated with your email information.
If there was any confusion about the charges on your account we can attempt to clear them up now. The full cost of your question would have been explained on the payment page. Customers can post their question with a $5 deposit, with the remainder deposit being charged when an Expert responds on your question page. A technician did respond to you which is why the remaining charge was processed.
We have refunded your payments and you should already see the funds back on your account.
We hope that we have addressed all of your concerns. If we can be of further assistance, please let us know. This is the link to our help center, http://ww2.justanswer.com/help.

I asked a question about my cat and a text chat came up. I didn't think much of it, and wondered if my question could be answered. They said they would charge me a fee of $5, which I didn't mind paying at the time, and the next thing I know, I have a $22 charge on my PayPal to them. What also seemed suspicious is I get an email that my PayPal acct password got changed. I immediately called PayPal to change my password. I don't think it was a coincidence since it happened all within a few minutes of my being charged the $22! Also, after I made the mistake and clicked OK to the $5 charge but charged $22, another page comes up as if payment wasn't paid. They were trying to charge me double!! VERY UNSATISFIED!!
Hello Ipolani,
Thanks for getting in touch with us about this, I'm sorry to hear about the confusion that you experienced.
The $5.00 deposit is the charge for posting the question and the remainder deposit is usually taken after the Expert responds.
In this case it appears that you requested a refund of the PayPal charges within 5 minutes, so when the Vet responded shortly after that and you tried to view the response, the funds had already been refunded and you were asked to post a deposit again.
We do hope that your cat is doing well and that you were able to get the veterinary assistance that you needed.

They show a picture of a tech and mention his credentials and show the with the number of satisfied customers he/she has had. At that stage I assumed he would respond to my questions after I submitted my credit card info. No way, it is mandatory that you join one of their monthly services to take the next step. Of course they tell you that you can cancel at any time but how many people forget to cancel when they no longer need the service. And I would probably be one of them. I don't do business that way and won't deal with companies that do.

This is resolved with a refund. However running an online business myself, the practice to automatically enroll someone in monthly membership using saved credit card info (without consent) is giving your website a bad name. Looking at the reviews, I am not the only one had this bad experience. After the trial ends, if someone is interested in using the service, they will sign up themselves. No one has that many questions needing expert opinions on monthly basis. I have changed the rating to 3 stars, thanks to the customer support resolving this in a quick manner.

They said they were sorry about any misunderstanding with the service or the billing, and that they would credit the charges. Apparently, they do want to keep a good reputation for conducting business in an honorable manner, thank you.

I had a question concerning a mantel clock and submitted my question when asked. Then they said they would find someone to answer and wanted to charge a $5 deposit or 'good faith' fee. I reluctantly gave a credit card no. with the understanding that the fee would be refunded if I didn't use the service. Next, I was told that I would be billed a $30 fee to have my question answered, but had the option of cancelling. I hit the cancel button and exited, but my credit card was charged the $5 fee, with no credit for it, and was also charged a $31 fee from Clock Fix.
I think it is wrong to conduct business in this way as we should have been told of the $31 charge earlier. I am going to call the credit card co. to dispute the bill and refuse to pay it. I tried calling the cust. service no. about the billing but the rep was apparently overseas. When she asked me to spell out my email address, the call disconnected. The date of service was 04/23/17. Thank you.

The problem was resolved very quickly to my satisfaction in a most courteous way.
Original Review: April 13, 2017
I tried to phone them but could not get through on both their phone numbers as it would not connect. I live in Israel but used a UK credit card. I am very concerned. On the 3rd April I asked a question and paid 25.51 shekels. I have just received my credit card statement and it shows an additional membership fee of 197 shekels and 2 days later a tech help fee of 154 shekels. I most certainly did not ask any further questions and I did not ask for any additional help nor to become a member. I have therefore been overcharged the sum of 351 shekels which I want refunded immediately. As I get my credit card statement once a month I would not be aware of these overcharges at the time.
Please deal with this problem immediately. I am very cross as I went by the ratings they had received before I used them. Someone in their company has put these additional charges without notifying me by email, fax or phone call. They have a referenced ** on my credit card so it was obviously activated by their California branch.

Customer service contacted me and resolved the issue. They explained that a bug was interfering with the system and incorrectly labeled the doctor as an endocrinologist
Original Review: April 12, 2017
I had recently requested the "expert" advice of a eye doctor and more specifically a retina specialist. I was put in touch with an individual that did a good job answering my questions. However, I became extremely alarmed as I realized that the doctor's name & profile picture was the exact same as an endocrinologist that I had asked advice from 18 months earlier. So, basically the same individual is an endocrinologist and retina specialist... really??? I contacted JustAnswer, they requested a snapshot of profiles... which I did. They have since not responded. So I am left disappointed and upset that I have wasted money on fraudulent experts provided on the site. I can't trust any of the advice I received... avoid at all costs.

I went online today to simply look up a definition of a term I had never heard of before (unremarkable cervix). I googled "unremarkable cervix" and someone else had already asked that question so I clicked on the site which was apparently JustAnswer. When I was reading on the page, a chat balloon came up and I told the person I was just looking for a definition and reading about it. They proceeded to ask me about if I had a doctor, normal pap, etc. which I found intrusive so I kept writing... "I've got great doctors. I'm good. Just looked up definition." Which in the comments of their page was pretty much being answered on their site already only I was being distracted from reading it by the chat person who was identified as a gynecological assistant.
Next the person proceeded to tell me to pay $5. I just clicked off the site and thought how laughable. I literally found their prying for info intrusive to what I was reading or trying to read but couldn't finish because of their persistent chat/questions and now when I'm looking on this site, it appears this JustAnswer site is totally scamming people.

I do not have one, I had "supposedly" been chatting online with a CSR, and when I couldn't submit the question because of the cell phone issue, I kept going back to the chat feature explaining I did not have a cell phone number to give them and couldn't submit the question. However, they did charge my Visa with two charges of $5.00 + $23.00 for the answer to the question I was unable to submit.
When I checked with them yesterday, they couldn't even find my email, they finally said, they had just created one for me and there was an answer waiting, so I would be charged. I never received any indication that my question had been submitted. Most unhappy with their website and their lack of customer service. I do not recommend anyone using them. Total of 51 dollars. I went for the PayPal option as I don’t wish to put my CC details online. Only to have the full balance of 51 dollars come up on the PayPal charge. I haven't yet received anything but immediately PayPal charge is reverted onscreen to the full amount. I didn't proceed as this is not what is the deal was when initially asking the question.
These sites are great if implemented correctly. I could probably have put my credit card details in and got the initial deposit of 5 dollars put through. Then who knows what would be charged to your CC after they have your details. Regardless of whether the answer to your question is good information or not. These sites do themselves no favors in a world of rip-offs, scams and sad stories of internet phishing. Mainly all semi-intelligent people in today's world have either been burned once or twice and are super cautious like myself or they are listening each night to similar stories of someone else's misfortune on the 6 o'clock news of just this type of scamming. I checked with the Clerk of Courts and was given the exact opposite information, one may file Formal Administration forms with the Clerk of Courts and they will be given to the judge. The issue is finding the forms and completing them correctly as well as following the necessary steps in Formal Administration, it is an involved process but the Clerk of Courts said the information is available at the law library and she has had one person who is not an attorney proceed. (I spoke with the Clerk of Courts in Martin County Florida.)
The expert insisted that the information given was correct, JustAnswers refunded their fee without hesitation which was commendable however I am unhappy at the expert's insistence that the information was accurate when clearly it is not. This seemed odd. I went back to my emails and saw I would be charged $76 on top of the $5. This is misleading. I checked my card info. It was correct. In fact, they took $5 out of it, despite saying I had to update my details. So I just wanted to cancel the account. I tried to use their chat, but it was unavailable last night and today. So the chat is unavailable but you can access their "experts." There is a button to cancel membership. Apparently if it does not appear then you don't have a membership. There is no button to cancel your account. You have to send them a message. They advise they usually reply in a few hours. They don't. I just want to make sure my account is closed from these pirates.
Hello Greg,
I'm sorry for the confusion about the good faith deposit. An initial $5 deposit is required at the time the question is posted and the balance of the question price is collected once an Expert responds to the question.
This information regarding the deposit is displayed on the page where the customer is prompted to submit their payment details and questions are posted only when the customer acknowledges and accepts the payment terms.
An Expert responded to your question which is why you received the email about the answer. We attempted to process a charge for the balance due, however, the payment failed for reasons we will disclose to you in private.
When posting a payment to the site, the Expert isn't paid unless you’re satisfied with the help received and rate the service accordingly.
An overview of this process can be found on the How It Works page here: http://ww2.justanswer.com/how-justanswer-works
At this time, the $5.00 charge has been refunded back to your card.

Updated on 09/24/2019: Originally a few years ago I had requested legal help, a small matter an inconvenience which received a cursory look and questionable answer from the merchant. Once I complained spending around $35, they offered not a reimbursement but a credit for another question. Two years later, I had a troubling issue with drainage in the kitchen sink. Immediately I was charged $5 + the remainder of around $12. I just figured I would work out this payment issue, after hoping to get a credible answer on my problem.
I had originally checked YouTube, Google the issue, etc.. and came to the conclusion that I had a blockage in the drainage from kitchen to the main sewer line. I requested help with Just Answers for a secondary opinion, laid out all the details, what I had done and was told it must be the garbage disposal. I am unsure but at this point I am more knowledgeable than the so called expert. At least so far received credited back for my expenses and received another freebie. At this point I hope to possibly regift this freebie since I have no confidence in Just Answers.
Original review: Contacted a few hours ago and added Amex card for $5 refundable deposit. I am a first time user, and all I wanted was an answer to a legal question. I provided my information, then email + created password probably for the answer, then a charge of $31. After processing the site led me to charges on a monthly basis, or our gold membership, or platinum yada yada. Hey all I wanted was one answer, not a membership to the club, with no way to opt out. Luckily, AMEX provided a fraud alert via text and would not pay until my consent. Since I have no clue as to why I cannot get one answer without joining the club, I opted out completely. Now I will advise if I ever see the $5 chargeback.

I instead upgraded to a phone call. While the doctor was kind and helpful, my first card was charged as well as the second card. Additionally, I was charged for an online answer I never received in addition to the upgrade preference of the phone call. This company should make their policies clear.
When I phoned about the problem, I was told I had to pay for the online answer, the deposit and the upgrade. Why would someone pay a 'deposit' which was not included in the payment when it went through? A deposit is a 'deposit' not an additional charge. And why would I pay for an online answer which was never given nor received because I upgraded service to a phone call. So THREE CHARGES for one answer. Will NOT be using this service again. I don't mind paying for something I have decided to pay but don't like being bamboozled into paying three times for one service which was never made clear in the beginning.

Before I could shake my head at the deception I had already entered my payment information. I immediately requested a refund. The only payment interaction was with JustAnswer.com. Seems like the route of hacking is pretty clear. Don't trust this site.

I made the mistake of trying JustAnswer and the "free" trial period cost me about 60 dollars so far. You have to pay $5 to sign up and they tell you they have a 30 day refund guarantee. But the "free" period ends after only 7 days and then you are charged the subscription price. I signed up for the cheapest rate and that is what I was charged the first month. Then the second month I was charged for the next highest rate. I never asked to change my membership and I would have canceled earlier if they had made it clear the free period was only 7 days. From the high number of complaints on this website alone I should never have clicked on the JustAnswer site and I will NEVER do it again. My advice is to stay away from them!!!
Hello Dan,
Thank you for getting in touch with us about this. We apologize for any confusion. In looking at your account it does not appear that any change has been made to your membership plan and it does not appear that you had contacted us regarding the membership.
We're sorry to hear that you want to turn off your membership feature. We have processed your request and moving forward, you will not see any recurring membership charges. Your account is now on a pay-per-question basis and you will only be charged when you post a question.
The recent charge made to your card has been canceled. The funds are made available to your bank the next business day, however, the bank may take 3-5 business days to release the funds back to your account depending on their policy.

The next morning I see an additional 23.00 charged, when I called customer service the woman told me that all this is explained in their website. I explained to her that this seemed misleading to me and she promptly told me that it was not that I just have not read their policies on their website. I am still not understanding why there is a 5.00 fee and then the next day a 23.00 fee. This just seems very deceptive to me. Why would it not be a 28.00 fee upfront? Be honest at what your product costs, do not bury it in your web pages for consumer to have to research before use.
Hello Bryan,

I used JustAnswer before and been happy. Not today! This time was a whole nother story. Bill an "Immigration attorney" Who could not be bothered to say hello... Which is a minor thing when you think about how important lawyers info is. He gave conflicting, contradictory advice, when I posed one simple question, which could have been answered with a simple answer. 3 quotes of him contradicting himself, and asking for clarification, led me to believe the guy is drunk.
I started to wonder... and saw that he only had 2 ratings. A 1 star and a 2 star... I have now been waiting 3 hours for clarification, again. Oh and to top it off, as I had good experience before, I paid the full amount by Paypal... for legal advice I do not care about $38, but I had no option to pay he $5 good faith payment. If you folks care about your reputation, get rid of this guy! Make good and I might come back, some of your folks are great.

Well, they only handle cases for actual discrimination and not only that, I needed mounds of evidence and paperwork which she failed, of course, to notify me of. The lawyer I paid $35 to speak with one time, claimed they handled hostile work environment claims too. He was very wrong. I would have been better off traipsing around town paying a consultation fee to an actual local attorney.

I exited JustAnswer.com (with no answer) and instead went directly to the TracFone website, and added time.
Next thing you know JustAnswer.com charged my checking account $5.00 even though I had never gotten an answer. JustAnswer.com kept sending me e-mails saying they have my answer, which of course I no longer need. Next thing you know JustAnswer.com charged me another $15.00 for the next 3 e-mails they sent me. Three days later JustAnswer.com charged me $30.00 for a membership. I complained to Chase and they stopped JustAnswer.com. JustAnswer.com sent me another e-mail saying they refunded my $. Right! Chase got it back for me. I tell everyone now, "Who knows what 8th grader is searching the web for your answer and telling you their PhD qualifications?" Don't do it.

I recently used the JustAnswer to solve a furnace problem. That worked fine. A week later my bank account was hit for a $38 charge while I was expecting $5. Seems they are not upfront about their charges. I was charged $5 for asking a question and then $23 for the answer and $10 for a membership, none of which was made clear. Upon calling they agreed to refund the $10, but told me the expert who answered my question would not be paid if they refunded the $23. I would not recommend them as they are not upfront about charges. During my Q&A I was repeatedly given the option to talk with the expert via phone instead of email for an additional $24, but somehow they don't feel they need to be explicit about the other charges.

Because my google ID is an iCloud email address they ended up resetting my iCloud password instead and without telling me they were about to do that. (Which is a nuisance since now I have to remember a new password.) By that point they'd charged $79 dollars to my credit card which I had to call an 800 number and spend about 10 minutes of time to get reversed (and I can't even make sure that's happened for a few days). In short I'd avoid this service because their site doesn't work correctly (you can't upload screen shots, for example, despite there being a button for it.) It generates lots of emails, wants to install software on your computer so they can control it remotely, and doesn't have people patient enough to really understand what your problem is before they attempt to fix it.

I have been trying the Just Answer (JA) membership since I needed to work on my vehicle and "having a mechanic by my side" (so to speak) could be very helpful. I wasn't sure how JA charged its customers and I had to cancel "a few times" for several reasons, leaving me with just the $34/membership charge. Here are some reasons I had to cancel:
I asked a question about how much it would cost to ask a question which, I thought was going to customer service but was directed to the mechanic instead. I never (and still have not) solved my mechanical vehicle issue (but still have not canceled my membership... Yet!). Customer service at Just Answer can be comparable to Comcast customer service! They hardly (or don't) get back to you if you email them a question. Most of the time you are just directed to another confusing web page. And, when you call... you're connected to someone in the Philippines (just like Comcast), who are very courteous people that like to continue repeating your question, thanking you and apologizing to the hilt... But cannot seem to grasp the ACTUAL QUESTION(S) you're asking. Very very frustrating!
I am willing to hold off on canceling (my membership) for the last time but, no one has gotten back to my email questions I've been sending the last couple of days. And, I am STILL not certain on how JA charges you! Didn't know about having to TIP the professional. Didn't know that your star rating/review affected payment, etc. This is JA's TERRIBLE web page for explaining HOW IT WORKS. I don't see anything about tipping, how you're billed (it says "NAME YOUR PRICE" Huh? Is this Priceline?). How long/many times you can talk to someone? Can you talk vs email your professional? How much is membership? What are these other charges for premium services? With membership? Without membership? How many questions are you allowed to ask? If so, how much? Ugh... You are directed to go here: http://ww2.justanswer.com/how-justanswer-works
So, even with a membership! It's a shame that JUST ANSWER'S CUSTOMER SERVICE (IF THEY HAVE ANY) CAN'T... JUST ANSWER OUR QUESTIONS about this service. Sorry everyone... I'm obviously frustrated because I'm STILL without my vehicle and when I reposted/restated my question (because I different pro to "try" and answer it), JUST ANSWER canceled it stating that I repeated my question! Ugh.

I requested help in June 2016 concerning washing machine repair and was very happy with the response and happy to pay for the service. I put the payment on a credit card, which I don't use very much and foolishly haven't checked closely over the past few months. On checking this month's statement I found that I have been charged a membership fee of $54.59 on 20 Sept 2016. I certainly did not want ongoing membership and never intentionally agreed to it! Presumably I never unchecked a box at some stage during the process.
I have yet to get home to check my past few months' statements but it looks like it's a monthly fee, so my simple question which I thought cost me around $30 has apparently cost me hundreds - so far. I have cancelled the membership today and really hoping they don't debit me again 20 October. I am very disappointed as I was initially very impressed with the service and thought it was a great idea and good value for money. As it turns out it would have been far cheaper for me to have a service technician come to my home and pay them to repair it.
I have requested that the membership fee be refunded and sincerely hope that JustAnswers does the right thing and complies with this. If so, I will be more than happy to accept that it was all just a misunderstanding and my own stupid fault for not looking into it carefully enough. If not, I will have to assume that they are deliberately trying to trick people out of their money.
PS. I have received an email whilst typing this advising that my "Plus Membership" has been cancelled. Worth noting that the only emails I have received from them prior to this one, was on 13/6/16 advising that "your answer is on it's way" . I have thoroughly checked my Inbox and found no other emails. If the service was legit I would have expected to receive an email welcoming to me to my Plus membership and confirming details of costs, benefits etc back in June.

It was so easy. I just googled them and found all answers I needed about my dog on a single page - http://www.justanswer.com/topics-akita/?problems. Would recommend this site to everyone who has real veterinary questions but don't have time or money to visit a vet.

My dog has been having issues that I won't go into right now, but I went to JustAnswer to get some help for him. The recommended price to answer his question was $28 and I thought that was reasonable so I paid it. While I was waiting for the vet to answer, a pop up window appeared in the corner. It was a vet tech asking several questions to clarify my initial post. She ended with a "Great! That will help the vet, but I just need a $15 deposit to secure your place." I knew JustAnswer had a deposit system, but it would be absorbed into the fee or refunded back.
Little did I know, JustAnswer just wanted my $15. It's been several days of communication with them now and they are telling me that I really didn't pay it, even though I provided proof from PayPal. I must have another JustAnswer account, or they don't know what happened and they can't help me. Bottom line, I had a question answered for $28 and it shows on my JustAnswer account, yet PayPal shows that there was clearly two transactions within minutes. One of $28 and one of $15. All I want is my $15 back. My theory is that the vet tech was for a different vet than the one who answered my question and that is who got my money.

Thank you for getting in touch with us about this and we apologize for the confusion. It looks like there was an error on PayPal's part in transferring this $15.00 payment to us and that is why we had issues locating the charge.

NEVER GOT THE ANSWER, AND STUPIDLY GAVE THEM THE VISA NUMBER AND PAID THEM. ALSO STUPID. I'd better get a REFUND! Acted like a scam to me. Ended up fixing my coffee maker myself with free info on the web.
Hello Renee,
Thank you for getting in touch with us about your recent experience on the site and I apologize for any frustration that you've experienced.
In looking into your account, I can see that there was not a reply to the question about your coffee maker. This is highly unusual given the average response time on the site is 6 minutes.
I will reach out to you about your account and we will go ahead and process a refund for the $5 deposit back to your card and you should see the credit back in the next 1-3 business days.

The medical answer I got was a direct copy and paste from Web MD. Followed by "Ask your doctor". The IT expert advised "Contact the manufacturer or return the tablet". You definitely don't need a PhD to come up with answers like these. I emailed JustAnswer that day saying, "The answers would only be helpful to a person with no problem solving skills whatsoever". They still billed me $40 per answer, though their website advertises in multiple places that you only pay the $5 good faith deposit unless you give the answer 3 or more stars. I gave them each one star. Being that I only have a BS in Biology, I would expect a medical doctor to give at least one piece of information that I didn't know. Having my card holder dispute charges as an unauthorized charge.

After visits by 2 plumbers I was at a loss as to why our Potterton Boiler stopped working consistently. I appreciate that sometimes it is hard to diagnose a fault without seeing it for yourself. But that is what these experts are there for right? I described the problem and that we had two plumbers who could not figure out the problem. I was asked to make a contribution before I could get the answer. I am not sure how much I said I would be willing to pay but next thing I know they have deducted £27. I still felt this was worth spending the money so I did not have to pay for more plumbers wasting my time. I got the answer from the 'expert' and called another plumber and paid him £95. I game him the 'experts' solution and he said that was not the problem.
Finally I went back to the manufacturer, paid for a one year equipment insurance (£300) and got the product specialist in. He resolved the problem in 30 minutes but the problem was not as identified by Justanswer.com. I went back to the 'expert' and told him the problem was fixed and it was not as identified by him. His reaction was, "Congratulations on getting your boiler fixed. You are not obliged to take my advice." That might be true if I wasn't paying for this advice but to get it wrong and still expect to be paid? They may be good experts helping people every 9 seconds or whatever they claim but my experience with Justanswer was very poor.

Buyer beware! JustAnswer.com does not advertise their prices upfront and deceptively lures consumers in with a $5.00 initial fee which can, as other reviewers have complained, can be quite expensive. To make it worse, they have a policy stating: "The funds are not transferred to the Expert's account until after the customer has given their answer a positive rating. Customers may request a prompt refund up to 30 days after payment if they have not given a positive rating and are unhappy with the answer."
But the consumer is asked to give a rating on the expert's answer, NOT on their satisfaction with JustAnswer.com or their billing practices. The way it is set up, I assume most people answer the question about the expert long before they see their bank statement and realize how much they've been charged. Just because someone is happy with an employee (or an associate) of a company, doesn't mean they are satisfied with company as a whole. People who have grievances with a company should be able to seek recourse. In other words, just because you like the answer doesn't mean you like the deceptive billing practice or the extremely high charges imposed without proper notification or justification.
Hello Bob,
Thanks for contacting JustAnswer.
An Expert responded to your question which is why you received a charge for the balance due. In looking at your question about the turn signal, it appears that you rated the response from the Mechanic as Excellent.

At that time I wanted to cancel before I got an answer but was locked in and they went ahead and charged the card the original $5.00 but then due to being locked in, they apparently need no further permission to continue. Being held prisoner and being a senior citizen was horrible. Unless this company makes you give permission on each charge before charged, do not go there and be trapped trying to make you spend more and more money joining them before you even got an answer to your question. Very bad setup. Like a steel trap. They sent an email that they charged me so I am a verified buyer... Reluctantly but hopefully they don't clean out my credit card. Trapping people is horrible.
Hello Judith, thank you for the feedback you have provided. We're very sorry if you felt you were bombarded with choices to join. I can confirm that you have not enrolled in any of our membership plans at this time.
When a customer posts a question on our site, there is a pricing page where they agree to our terms of service and how much they are willing to pay for a helpful answer. Customers using a credit card will generally be charged a $5 deposit, with the remainder amount being charged when an Expert responds on their question page. The funds are not transferred to the Expert's account until after the customer has given their answer a positive rating. Customers may request a prompt refund up to 30 days after payment if they have not given a positive rating and are unhappy with the answer.

I asked a question and received the pop-up window that said in big bold letters there would be a $5 fee for my question. I looked at my bank statement and there was a $29 fee charged before and in addition to the $5 fee. Customer service advised me that my question was answered and the fee was $34, the $5 was just a deposit.
I will never use the company again - they have broken my trust. Using misleading information in order to make money is not an ethical way to transact business. If they would have been upfront about the fee on the screen that asked me for my credit card information I would have been able to make an informed decision. I read the screens thinking there had to be more to it. I didn't see the $5 deposit, $34 per question rate anywhere! The problem isn't even the $34 per question. It is the deceptive practice to get the $34. Don't manipulate me out of my money, let me give it to you willingly. Bad business move on their part. You can give people their money back - but it is difficult to repair a reputation of being untrustworthy. I wish I would have read all of the other reviews before I clicked on their link.

This is the second time I used JustAnswer for my dogs. The first time was to diagnose Pigmentary Keratitis in my husky's eye. The travelling vet (we live in a remote location) didn't know what it was but the vet on JustAnswer correctly diagnosed it after I described what it looked like. She sent me photos to confirm. We ordered a homeopathic remedy based on her advice and the brown spot on her eye is shrinking.
This time I asked for advice for my Corgi who had lot of pain in her stomach. After a lot of questions to rule out serious things like an obstruction or piercing of the intestine, the vet gave me advice to put her on a fast for 24 hours and then start her on a rice diet. I'm happy to say Cinder recovered wonderfully. She's my "baby" and I was so worried so her recovery was such a relief. A few days later the same problem occurred and we now believe her usual high quality, dehydrated, raw dog food has been changed since the company was bought out, and she can't tolerate that food any longer.
I put her on a fast again like the vet suggested and kept her on brown rice and lentils (a complete protein when combined) for a few days, and have been gradually adding vegetables, chicken and a multi vitamin. I'll have to continue to give her homemade food or find a different brand for her now. We live in remote area, so I truly appreciate being able to get sound advice for my "fur kids" that I can rely on.

My HVAC contractor was of no help because he was interested in either selling a custom coil or a new air handler for $3700. Hello Robert,
Thank you for getting in touch with us about this.
An Expert responded to your question which is why you received a charge for the balance due, however, the Expert isn't paid unless you’re satisfied with the help received and rate the service accordingly.

I asked what to do if I canceled a loan within the 3 days to rescind it. It was a loan that paid off an investor and gave me cash out. I was told that if one entity holds onto the funds, it is no defense. She apologized. I could not believe that by following the law, I had no defense. I took the loan to another loan officer friend. He scrutinized the loan and found many infractions that make the loan document illegal. Now I must wait for my attorney to return from vacation. I was told that the 3-day rescind effort on my part should stick. His advice was directly contrary to the attorney who advised me.

I added the funds to my account and "unlocked" the answer. There was no answer provided. I attempted to contact someone from the site and was met with a $70 fee to ask a question. The "tutor assistant" is just a program that provides no valuable insight and just leads you to the same page to ask a question for a $70 fee. I would the $3.00 refunded to my Paypal account unless someone is able to get me the requested information in the next hour. Having had to pay in advance of receiving their so called "help", I complained and thankfully the payment was reimbursed to my credit card account. However, since then JustAnswer.com have been taking unauthorised payments from my credit card account on a random basis. I feel I have been ripped off by Just Answer. I found the website through a websearch for "online Neurologist". On the webpage link everything look professional. There were section under the question box, which provided details of several neurologists with good credentials. I proceeded with my question summary of my health problems and received a two sentence lazy answer which was vague, unhelpful and incorrect. Bearing in mind that the doctor was portrayed in emails and in several places on their website as being a neurologist, I proceeded to find out his credentials and found his profile on a websearch. He was not neurologist or specialist.
I complained that I specifically ask for a neurologist. And why is Just Answer advertising him as a neurologist in several places? I also complained to the doctor who answered the question. The doctor said that he was unaware that Just Answer were advertising him as a neurologist and that Just Answer forwarded this question to him. Customer service said that all their experts are qualified to answer questions and when I pushed about the false advertising, they were deflecting and never answered the question and said we will open your question up again.
So after sometime I received feedback from a new doctor being portrayed by Just Answer as a neurologist asking and proceeding to answer the question without any consent from me. And guess what, he wasn't a neurologist after a refined search leading to his profile page. Nothing would of indicate this during the process. The email I received stated him as a neurologist and also the website procedure page did.
I complained again both with the doctor and customer service. The doctor was unaware of the false advertising and tried his best to convince me he were a good doctor and became very pushy and somewhat bullish when I kept refusing his service and customer service kept stating that their experts were qualified and refused to answer falsely advertising him as a neurologist and said that I would have to resolve this complaint with the doctor.
After several mails with the doctor who was still trying to convince me and becoming somewhat aggressive finally gave up and said my question would be opened back up. Several emails to customer service revealed that they don't actually have any neurologist available at any time. And when I asked why they advertise and have profile picture and details of neurologist and then falsely portrayed doctors as specialist they refused to answer and for the last three days they are not answering my emails. So lessons have been learnt Just Answer falsely advertise specialist and falsely answer questions from specialist. They are financially benefiting from misleading credentials and information and false advertising. Stay away.
Hello Mariza, we're very sorry for any frustration. The site dual-categorized your question when it took longer than normal for an Expert to respond. This opened up your question to other doctors who are not neurologists. The non-neuralogist doctors who responded have opted out. There's a new reply from one of the Experts who is a verified neurologist, he goes by the name Neuro Doctor. You are welcome to work with the new Expert. Please let us know if you need further assistance.

I had hoped the diagnosis I received would resolve my problem but unfortunately only led me to spend more money and I still have the issue. My 2003 Honda Odyssey has been throwing codes P300 - P306 & P1399 which are random misfire codes and individual codes along with a transmission code. I have replaced the EGR valve and cleaned ports, replaced all spark plugs and coil packs prior to submitting my question. I also noted that I have a ticking sound while running.
The suggestion was that this was easy and the mechanic was surprised they missed this. He replied that I needed the valves adjusted. After having the valve adjustment done on all 24 valves it does sound quieter but it is still throwing the same codes shortly after starting especially if you left it parked and just idle. Well after paying the $28 for an answer I received an educated suggestion that unfortunately did not pay off. I don't disagree the valve adjustment was probably needed but now I spent the cost of a valve adjustment and the $28 for an answer and I am still back to square one.

The ConsumerAffairs reviews for JustAnswer look to me like they're being manipulated by JustAnswer. Any poor review is stamped with a big X and crossed out. Look at all the ones that are crossed out - I think those are the real ones. This company appears to pose as a regular Q & A board like hundreds of others you can view free. I went to see if I could clarify a Roku issue. I started reading through some comments - just as I'd done on other sites. Suddenly, up pops a chat box with a "Computer Technician Assistant" offering help. I entered my question and was then told that she'd put me in touch with a real Technician after I paid the 5$ fee. I was desperate for expert medical support; it was a Sunday. Sumi, my elderly Siamese mix had gone down to 4 lbs. She was just given a depo shot 1 week ago to lessen the drastic loss of fluids, thru diarrhea and vomiting. I was advised against feeding her chicken or any kind of fish as this was considered to aggravate the condition. Venison, duck, quail, turkey... None of these did she care for. On Sunday I was overwhelmed with helplessness, and needed to reach out. I went online and found your service.
Dr. ** was compassionate, professional and very clear as to what direction I should take. He suggested that her symptoms might in fact be more indicative of gastrointestinal tract lymphoma or severe inflammatory bowel disease, and that there were no dietary restrictions if this were so. I then offered her solid light tuna in olive oil and rice; she cried loudly as I spooned this onto her plate as she wanted it so badly. She ate everything. Her eyes looked bright again and she looked as if she had been restored mentally and perhaps physically too.
I then gave her some chicken and she ate that also with relish. She then wanted water, so I allowed her to go out to my covered lanai where there was a water dispenser. She drank. It was raining, but she did not seem to mind; she was under the protection of the roof so would not get wet. She did not ask to come back into the house, so I left her there. In the morning I found her body under a different lanai.
I was initially stunned and in pain then I felt a huge sense of gratitude that I had been able to offer her something at her last meal that she so enjoyed. That to me was a special privilege... and that would not have been possible had I not had the wonderful advice of Dr. **. I had an old watch that had previously defied identification; but with 'Mike' from JustAnswer together we chased down its identity and he was able to give me the independent 'tick' and valuation I needed to show others that the watch was a genuine article. I also liked the fact that with JustAnswer I could join up as a regular or keep my involvement on an 'as needs' basis which is what I prefer. This is a few times now that I've been able to use JustAnswer to clear up an antiques question - yes you have to pay for the appraisal and the item isn't worth it but without the appraisal I would never know.

Had a very positive experience! The first time I used Just Answer I had a legal question. My question was answered within the first 15 min. This saved me time, money and embarrassment to have to go out of my home for legal consultation. In fact to be honest it saved me 15,000.00 not getting into the legality of it. The sweet thing it only cost me 45.00 for my question answered in 15 min. Plus a tip I gave. The questions are answered from professionals whether it being a lawyer, tax consultant or a certified Public accountant, doctors, you name it they have the answer. After the first question was answered I thought I may as well try with my financial questions, so I used them two more times and was entirely impressed. Put it this way; for a small amount of money that it cost you have way more to lose if you don't trust these people! They are for real and I'm so happy I found them. I have already told many people!!!

Multiple advertisements proclaimed that SS recipients can increase their checks for the rest of their lives. Some are eligible for an advance payment of up to $60,000 in one check. Others are eligible for almost doubling of their usual SS checks lifetime. It was researched by "JustAnswer" and determined not true. The answers to my questions were not what I wanted to hear, but the attorney was just the messenger, not the adjudicator.

I had to make a new rule in Norton firewall. They allow traffic to and from the printer outside my network. I asked them if a firewall could cause the problem and he said no.
Hello Robin,
Thank you for getting in touch with us about your recent Experience on the site. We're sorry to hear that you were unhappy with the response from the Expert.
In looking into your conversation it appears that you posted a question to the site but it does not appear that you responded to the Expert with further information that was requested to finish trouble shooting. When troubleshooting a technical issue it can often be helpful for the technician to have as much information as possible in order to rule out some errors.
At this time we're gone ahead and closed the question and will process a refund for the charges. You should see the funds back on your card in the next 3-5 business days at the most.
Let us know if you need any further assistance.

My wife and I were trying to get our taxes filed this past week and a lot has changed over the past year in our lives and it was starting to get confusing as heck. We ended up googling and looking for more information and we came across JustAnswer. After a little bit of back and forth on the website and a phone call with one of the Accountants, we finally got everything wrapped up this past Friday, and then the accountant let us know that the filing deadline had actually been moved to Monday, so we were actually very much ahead of the ball and for less than $100 out the door. This was a heck of a deal and a lot of stress saved.

Canceled online 5 days after start. They did not email a confirmation. Took $31 out of account the day of inception. 7 days later another $36. Had only one question for attorney with no last name, who knows if he was licensed in California. Was told in login there was refund but instead it was the $36 charge. Called 800 number. Was located in Manilla, Philippines. Gave me San Francisco number. It was disconnected. I also had to make it very clear I was cancelling anything and everything and that they were to not buff my account again except for the credit that I have not seen yet. They were also only willing to give the credit for the $36 not the $31. Also the attorney was very aggressive about me writing a recommendation about him. Right now these people look like thieves and liars regarding billing and call center.
Hello Charles,
Thank you for getting in touch with us about this. We're sorry to hear that you were not happy with your recent experience on the site.
In looking into your account it appears that you posted a legal question on April 5th 2016 and opted into the membership at that point, which comes with a free week (7 day) trial.
It appears that you came back to the site and processed your own refund for the initial deposit for the first question, which may have been why we were unable to process the refund for you at that time as you had already processed your own refund using the Help page.
The attorney that you spoke with is licensed in both California and Georgia. In reviewing the conversation, it does not appear that you had replied to his initial response or request for further clarifying information.
At this time it appears that your account has been closed at your request and that all of the charges have been refunded to you.
Let us know if you need any further assistance.

The answer to my question was proper and appropriate. The charges, however, were exorbitant and excessive. I agreed to a $5 charge, and even gave a tip based upon the helpfulness of the "expert". Then, I found an additional charge on my credit card; one that I had not authorized. I will never use this service again, and will do everything I can to educate friends and colleagues.
Hello Richard,
Thanks for contacting JustAnswer.
An Expert responded to your question which is why you received a charge for the balance due, however, the Expert isn't paid unless you’re satisfied with the help received and rate the service accordingly.
An overview of this process can be found on the How It Works page here: http://ww2.justanswer.com/how-justanswer-works
I hope this clears up the confusion about your charges but please let me know if you have any questions or if I can be further assistance.

I asked a question under the free first question promotion and received a response for more information. I continued to provide info on a electrical problem with a Mazda van and kept getting more info needed responses. I then gave up and took the van into the shop. Got billing for $5.00 then $15.00 then three $20.00 monthly "membership" charges without any emails from them for the billing. Contacted them today and got two $20.00 refunds but could not get the other charges refunded. This company is a rip off and they charge you a membership fee even when they do not provide any answers. They just make up new ways of asking for more information. Do not get caught up in their billing scam. By the time you find out, they hit your credit card for $80.00!!
Hello David, we have reviewed your account and found that you agreed to pay for your first question (we do not have a 'first question is free' offer), and also that you enrolled in our monthly membership program. All of the charges on your account have been refunded for you. If you need further assistance, you are welcome to contact our customer support center at support@justanswer.com.

I was very happy with Dr. ** advice for my dog. I have not been getting anywhere with my local vet as to treating my dog. I have already passed on this site's details to a friend. I am really happy. Thank you again Dr. **.

I used the website a weekend ago to fix an issue with the ice-maker in my fridge. It was giving us ice that had a weird taste so I posted a question and the technician got back to me with a couple of suggestions about the filter, which I couldn't find and it turns out doesn't exist on this fridge. Then he sent me a video for how to take the ice maker out and gave me some suggestions for cleaning it. BINGO! That worked amazingly well!
About an hour later I had the ice maker cleaned, back in the fridge and making ice that now tastes like nothing, which is how it should taste. :) No need to call someone out from a service place and pay them for hours of their time and then pay for parts. No waiting around for hours myself waiting for someone to show up, just $40 and a screw-driver and now I look like a genius to my family. :)
