If you want to sell your items internationally on Etsy beware, open my Etsy shop 2015 and had no any problem with my any customers. They send me an email from Etsy one night 2018 and they said this. (After a close review of your account, my team and I have determined that your items and business do not meet our Seller Policy and we can no longer accommodate your business on Etsy. As a result, your account has been closed.) This was a big shock after all my work and time gone for one night email. The Etsy management is authoritarian and arbitrary.

I signed up for a new storefront to sell many items in my vintage collection, outside of eBay and Craigslist. Nothing I could see from the Seller Agreement bylaw that they charge per-click fees for promoting items. And there were no options in my account listings or marketing etc. for modifying these fees, which another section of the Seller Agreement had claimed could be changed. After one week of setup, my jaw dropped as read my first billing statement. $15 promotion fees charged to each of the 20 vintage items I'd already listed! I got stiffed with a whopping $300 Seller setup, instead me MAKING profit off my first sales. Bottom line, Etsy is very deceiving and misleading with their Seller setup and shop fees. Even eBay doesn't charge that much to Sellers. Just ridiculous.
Updated on 03/26/2018: I signed up a new storefront for my vintage and antique inventory. Read through the entire Seller setup and disclosures just fine. Understood the small listings fees ($0.20 per) as is standard with most online resellers including eBay. In process of finalization, read, acknowledged, and accepted the listings fees which totaled about $13.88.
The very next week I get a notification from my bank about two separate charges of $67 and $37 for additional seller fees. Which I presumed to be a billing mistake. Looked into my account to find Etsy had charged me the premium listings fees which I never selected nor authorized. Billing me $115 for total setup. Called them about it, but no answer. Emailed their support which took 1 week for them to respond "abnormally high call or email volume". To go back/forth with 'Ashley' who insisted they don't issue refunds for any mistakes or technical errors with their site and seller accounts. What a load of crap. So basically they can mischarge or overcharge the customer or seller and just get away with it. Not happening. Contacted my bank about the charges and they promptly credited my account. And effectively CLOSED my seller account.

Furniture purchase from an Etsy seller called the WoodworkerUK. Nothing but a nightmare and Etsy are so unsupportive of customers backing their dubious sellers instead. This was a £928 transaction. The review I posted on Etsy says it all. "Despite me providing exact measurements, this furniture arrived far too big for the space I had specified. I had been promised that the benches would slide under the table but they don't as they are the same length as the table. Bespoke? No not at all. To add to the issue both benches have significant lateral movement This has become by far the worst purchase I have made ever in my life. It was to be used for a unique family event at Easter and now that is ruined. The after sales support has been woeful with no replies for days now from Mr ** - he doesn't seem to care."

An email came to me saying my shop was closed and they will hold my money for 180 days, while at the meantime they reserve the right to refund the customer. EXCUSE ME? I PAID $30 DOLLAR FOR SHIPPING, AND $300 IS BEING HELD BY YOU GUYS. ETSY IS A SCAM WEBSITE.

I tried Etsy in 2015. I didn't sell anything and people didn't even know I existed. It says you have to spend lots of time (months) to build up rep on their website to sell. How silly. I don't have months to sell my stuff. I sell faster on Craigslist! I've tried ever since then to close my account and everyday I receive harassing emails from them saying I owe them money. I haven't used my account! They keep saying I owe them money for opening an account with them. How ridiculous! I never used my account. Nowhere when I signed up did it say I owed money to open an account with them. I told them to close my account years ago and I keep getting the same emails with different dates. The reps won't do anything. Don't try this website at all!!!

I purchased a knife from some outfit called Uneekitemz which is part of ETSY. After no notifications from him (the owner), and only after I made inquiries directly to the owner, did I finally receive the item. It was totally defective. I wrote to him demanding to return the item. I did get a refund along with a series of insults, personal threats, threats to my business and livelihood and unbelievable rudeness, crassness and vulgarity of the highest order. I don't know how ETSY works. However, I will not allow myself to be treated in such a manner. This man, and it appears the company (Etsy) too engages in fraud and deceit. Someone should shut it down.
I am in the process of filing complaints with the Attorney's General's Offices in New York and Oregon. I don't think I have ever encountered a more contemptible, disgusting, vile person than I have with the gentleman who runs that store with Etsy. Moreover, trying to reach ETSY is a nightmare. Fraud, dishonesty and disgusting behavior are something the public should not have to put up with or tolerate. I am going to inform every website and review platform I can find and state the facts as they transpired. I would strongly suggest that whomever runs Etsy do something about this person, and their company too, before there is an even greater loss of even more business. I see from the various reviews out there that many people have complained about ETSY. I hope you will do something to rectify this situation.

I purchased a dress for $102. I bought it on December 28, 2017. It is now February 21, 2018 and I still have not received my item. I contacted the seller and she claimed that she doesn’t have a tracking number. When I escalated the case on Etsy customer service, the seller gave a picture of a receipt that package was sent but can’t say where it is. Etsy closed the case because as long as the seller shows a receipt they cannot do anything. I looked at other reviews from this seller and majority of the customers have gone through the same thing. They buy items but not all has received them. Not fair! Etsy should ban these type of sellers.

I contacted Etsy to find out specific details and I received a similar e-mail reply. I do NOT want to buy anything the website! Therefore, I attempted to close my account for (shopping/buying) items on Etsy and I received a message stating that I could NOT close my account because I owe a bill. I returned the order and Robin still refused to refund my order and Etsy actually closed the case with no refund. I had to file a few complaints against her because she wanted to scam me. The seller ignored my first emails and few after. After several months of fighting, I got a partial refund. All the seller did, was claim abuse after scamming me, and reversal of blame. I still yet to get a full refund... I would stay clear from Hancock's Embroidery on Etsy. I now will shop at Skarten.com for Embroidery needs.

I am writing to express my concern with the fraudulent practices committed by the Etsy.com Website. I entered an agreement with Etsy INC that I would pay for each click through to my list of items for sale with the opportunity to sell these items. However, Etsy modified its policy sometime last year without notifying me and required a bank account to be linked to their site so they can collect payment if necessary.
Since I was not notified of this change and did not update my settings they stopped the ability for customers to purchase any items I have for sale. However, they did not also stop the viewing and click through ability for the customer. I was not in arrears with payment and unknowingly paid for these fees without the understanding that I could not sell them.
This caused a breach of contract where they were not providing the ability to sell but were a still collecting their fees. This means that they continued to charge me fees but I had no ability to recoup my costs through the sale of my items. This is an imbalance in the agreement. I am sure I am not the only seller on ETSY.com who has been defrauded by them. I would like the Department of Consumer Affairs to review this and provide assistance where I (and possibly others) can recoup the fees collected during this time. I would also request that the States Attorney General look into this for possible illegalities.

I sold a bracelet through my new Etsy shop - my customer paid a reduced rate for international tracked and signed with Royal Mail. I offered a reduced rate as a service to help international customers. I paid the extra. I notified her. I had put a little gift inside. I sent the tracking updates regularly to the customer updating her and answering her many messages straight away every time as part of my customer service.
The letter reached USA quickly then continued to bounce between 2 states for days. It was attempted to be delivered 3 times and it is currently still being tracked on route in USA. I have had to wait 3 weeks plus to claim through Royal Mail. They just kept informing me it will get there. The customer opened a case against me despite me sending her my proof of postage and regularly tracking the item for her and I was asked to provide Etsy all my proof of posting which I did. The customer stated in the case that she had been informed by USPS that the tracking number was for someone else. This however was untrue. It was her tracking number and the receipt confirmed it. Despite me informing Etsy of this fact they did nothing whatsoever to support me as a seller. She sent me very angry messages.
I contacted Etsy and they just sent a email to say, “Sorry that your customer has taken her misplaced anger out on you for something strange that has happened with your post!” And asked me to sort it out with the customer. So far asking me to sort it out with the customer was my support from Etsy my seller protection. Stuck in a case the only way available to me to close the case was to refund the customer as per Etsy policies so I refunded her despite the item still being tracked. The customer at this point had lied in the case stating it was the wrong tracking and this was accepted by Etsy despite my proof. The case was then closed.
I emailed Etsy asking what I would do if the customer left me a bad review regarding this and they did not reply to my email. A few days later sure enough I received a 1* review which read *not received my item. Seller not refunded me.* I emailed her to ask why she had left the review as she had received a refund and she was very aggressive and said she would find any way to report my business threatening me and stating she did not receive a refund. I sent her my proof of the refund issued. I received no reply.
I promptly emailed Etsy and got a basic reply highlighting the fact that I should sort it out with the buyer and if she had not received her refund to give her a link which they enclosed in the email. I was not assisted or supported by Etsy in any way. They told me to flag the review which I did and if it was covered by their policies they would look into it. The policies do not contain anything concerning a customer lying. Etsy know that the customer received a refund yet they have not removed this review that states she never received a refund. Etsy allowed a detrimental review that was a lie. I was not supported as a seller whatsoever and Etsy is a platform which allows sellers to be exploited.
They allowed a customer to leave abusive messages a customer who threatened to do anything to report my business. I have no faith in this company whatsoever and have removed my listings pending leaving Etsy. My proof of postage meant nothing to Etsy. Despite stating that it was required for seller protection I received no seller protection in this instance. I was also having to wait over 6 days to receive my money after a sale despite the website stating 3-5 days. When I confronted them regarding this they said they had issues.

Wow, there are so many negative reviews here on Etsy! I think Etsy can work on a lot of things to improve their selling platform such as their search bar. It's very difficult to find what I am looking for, as a lot of not accurate items are coming up. The best thing to do IMHO is to find good quality shops with high star ratings and stay with them. I bought several items from Tuareg jewelry as I am fond of ethnic and vintage jewelry! This shop owner always gives me better prices with over 150 5 star ratings. Also I have very good experiences with some of the Indian shops where I buy decorative blankets from. Again I only choose to do business with 5 star ratings, and that works for me. No experience yet with Etsy support or problems until now after being a customer for 4 years.

Bottom line: Etsy imho is no longer a viable place to shop. In earlier days I enjoyed purchasing unique, home-made or custom made items. Now the site seems to me to be loaded with over-priced mass-produced stuff. Adding insult to injury, Etsy does not protect its buyers - unlike eBay which is terrific in that regard. So why on earth shop Etsy, except for maybe inexpensive items, if you have money to burn. On Dec 2, 2017, I ordered custom-made felt slippers from on overseas shop. The seller advertised their goods as 'Handmade, Made to order'. That's why I shopped there; I am a hard-to-find 9 1/2 AA - which I made perfectly clear: "My foot size, US measurement: 9 1/2 AA; I have a fairly high instep; definitely NOT flat." Why she asked about instep is beyond me. Slippers are flat.
The slippers that arrived - January 8, 2018 - would be too big for an elephant! I suspect not handmade, and definitely not custom-made. Nor do they look like the image posted. I was SO SO deflated when they arrived, and then angry. I wrote to the seller; no response. So I left a negative review. That got attention; however, the seller wanted me to ship the package back - my expense - and either get my money back ($52; a lot to me), or let her try again. I decided to cut my losses. But not before filing a complaint at Etsy, and uploading photos. But Etsy does not get involved. My guess is that this site will fade... as it should.

I told the seller she should check her merchandise before sending out and she should have the items picked up because I am disabled and walk with a cane and unable to get to the post office. I posted something on Facebook on a group I am in. I had several girls message me with similar problems with her. I was told to check all the bags. All 4 are poor workmanship. I spent 8 hrs giving them photographic proof that I make all my products. Truth be told, I never made much money on Etsy and so the $200/yr sales loss is not very much but the attitude from Etsy management and personnel is truly astonishing. I signed up to become a Seller and the hoops they wanted me to jump thru were over the top unreasonable. I also sell on eBay with no problems like I encountered with Etsy. I signed up as a business as Etsy allows. I'm a S-Corp. All monies earned from eBay & Etsy are deposited into by Biz bank account and I report & pay taxes on them so I used my Federal ID# as they allow. However... They wanted all my personal information! DOB, last 4 digit of my social, home address... You know, all the information that someone needs to steal your identity! Been there done that so I refused to give them my personal info. If you've ever dealt with that, it is a nightmare! I am now dealing with identity theft of my deceased mother-in-law... She passed in 2015!!!
When they could not identify who I was personally they raked me over the coals with wanting a copy of my Drivers License!! AGAIN all the personal information they need to steal my identity! What is the purpose of signing up as a legitimate legal business to protect myself personally only to give ALL their employees who will have access to ALL my information? With all the useless laws guarding our privacy where do you think identity theft comes from? It is sometimes collected and stolen by employees who use or sell it to others. I know firsthand this happens all the time. Friend of a friend works for DMV! Unbelievable what these people can do!
Anyway... I gave them my Corporate ID# with the California website link to check me out. I gave them my Federal ID# to check me out with the Internal Revenue Service that I pay my taxes to. (Most sellers don't report their income, I DO.) I gave them my eBay store name which is the same store name I used to sign up with Etsy and a link to check out my perfect positive feedback for the last 2 years I have sold on eBay. They have my PayPal account that is attached to my Biz bank account and they wanted a credit card to back up any payment, okay I provided that too! They never took the time to check out any of this information to verify I am legitimate, instead they required me to show them my Biz bank statement with my Biz name and my personal name on it!!
So now I would have to call my bank and ask them to also add my personal name to my Corporation name on the bank statement?? Do they just think up this crap... As this is not even real. I've been very successfully self-employed since 1985 and have never had to jump thru hoops like this except to qualify for a home mortgage and that was easier to do as all the documents were real... Not creating new ones adding names to it!!! I would not want my personal name showing on my CORPORATION bank statement. We are a CORPORATION that has legal ramifications when you start to mix it up like that.
You don't commingle ANYTHING personal with a Corporation as it is easy for some slick attorney to pierce the Corporate veil! Then you become personally responsible! A friend told me, that if there is a box for these robots to check off that's what they do. They didn't even look at any of the information I provided... Instead they read the box and it didn't fit! I checked them out too. Etsy has been "criticized for their unsafe handling of personal information"!!! So what does that tell you?
When I finally gave up and said "sorry your loss, we won't be doing business together so please remove all my information including my email from your system"... This was their reply. "Thanks for contacting us. We take the privacy of our community seriously. We have permanently closed your account and are in the process of deleting information to the extent permitted. We may be required to retain some information for legal, regulatory, tax, security, or compliance reasons".
REALLY!!! Deleted to the extent permitted? Required to retain some information?? For what? See this is what I am talking about... There is no reason to retain a darn thing of mine as we never did any business!!! Glad I never gave any personal information!! As an Antique & Collectible collector for over 45 years, a Dealer for over 30 years, a Certified Appraiser of Antiques, Collectibles & Personal Property for over 18 years, I would have been an asset to sell on their website! At least the descriptions I write are accurate & true. Oh Well!! Sad to say but I had to give them one star when I wanted to give zero! Morons.

When it specifically had a shipping date and time to my address. Anyway, I wanted a refund for the purpose of I was expecting a package at my door not "digital files". The customer service lady was rude. And I am getting my money back by filing a dispute through my credit card company, which I shouldn't have to bother doing if this company was a honest for their customers' company. I still am in disbelief. I paid shipping for an Email of "digital files" to be sent to me!!??

I bought a sweater and it was not shipped 7 days after my order. I was trying to get the sweater before Christmas and it said 4-6 days shipping. I emailed saying this needs to be shipped. It’s a Christmas present and asking when it’ll be shipped. Whoever emailed back said “first off why are you yelling?”... in an email they’re yelling at me for yelling and was very snippy about shipping. It’s not any way to treat a customer and I will never purchase from them again. It’s inexcusable to treat a customer that way and I was just trying to ask and understand why my item hasn’t been shipped out 7 days later, especially during a holiday season where gifts need to be sent out ASAP! Very disappointed and will never buy from them again. Etsy, you can thank whoever your very rude customer service people are.

I stumbled upon Etsy from Google when I was trying to get a gift for my wife of our wedding vows. Before that I had never heard of this site but saw it had good reviews so I proceeded. I found something I thought my wife would enjoy so I started looking at the information and I figured maybe I had to show proof of payment before I put mine and my wife’s vows in like some sites I’ve used before required. Just like that $115 gone. No code to track my order, no email verification, and nothing in recent purchases. The site should require you to register to make an order rather than allow whoever to take your money with no receipt. I now hate this site and I will not recommend this site to anybody.

Etsy closed my store after three months of charging me for listings and advertising. The day after my first sale they closed the store and will keep the money for 180 days. Imagine if my sale was thousands instead of 50 bucks. Claimed my merch was not vintage or something. All my items were at least 25 years old and most were mid-century or older. Fake Rolexes are being sold on there as "homage" items. No justice for a guy trying to help his son with college expenses with a little side business.

I think this company is super shady. It engages in false advertisement and unfair business practices. This is how I know. I recently opened up a shop on Etsy. I did some research on what other sellers sell. I used the pictures from my suppliers. I saw that this is what many sellers did on Etsy. My store started to generate more activities in the 2nd month. I was pretty good at digital marketing. I managed to get few of my products to the 1st page of the Etsy SEO. :)
Just when that happened and out of nowhere, I got an email from Etsy saying that they are closing down my store because I violated one of their policies. But here is the thing. There are many big sellers on the platform who are selling the same products and using the same product photos I used. Some of them had million dollars worth of sale transactions and tens of thousands of clients. These sellers claim that items are handmade when in fact they are massively manufactured cheaply in Asia. But these stores are okay.
So I thought to myself of why Etsy would bother to shut down my tiny insignificant store that generated only 65 sales in 2 months, claiming that I violated their policy while let those big stores run free. If they are cracking down on sellers who violated their policies, why did they come after me while let go of those sellers who engage in false advertisements, charge people 50x+ margin, and generate million dollar revenues. It doesn't seem a lot of logical sense.
I suspect that this company let the bigger shops go free because they don't want their marketplace to be flooded with a lot of sellers selling the same items (quality control). They don't want to become like Ebay. They are afraid that when their marketplace is flooded with small sellers selling the exact same thing, people will go to Ebay and other places to buy. I suspect what this company wants to do is that they want to keep the few top sellers and players in each selling categories that generate the most revenue and traffic while keep some small fishes around. They weed out smaller and new sellers who are using supplier pictures or provides ** quality products because they know buyers can easily do a Google image search to find the source of these products.
Etsy also permits some of those big stores to charge customers a ridiculous amount of money and scamming people millions of dollars on misleading and false advertisement while they know that these shops are violating their policies, selling products that are not handmade. So it intentionally singles out newer sellers and smaller shops and get rid of them while keep the big shops around because they generate most traffic and sales. I wrote an email back to Etsy and send them pictures links of two big stores who are selling the same thing. They said they will investigate. It has been days and these stores are still selling their supposedly "handmade products".
Also, I saw people selling fake Chanel logo earrings and copies of Hermes Kelly Bags. I was like what!? Violating other brand names trademark is actually illegal. They are not cracking down on those stores but went after my tiny store. Etsy's platform is flooded with international sellers from India, Asia, etc. Since labor in these countries are cheap, these foreign sellers are driving out American sellers. Many of these foreign sellers are selling the same exact products. Many of us have had unpleasant experiences with this company. Writing your experience on Consumer Affairs won't do much. Reporting them to Hermes, Chanel, and other brands for trademark and copyright infringement. Let the big companies' legal team deal with them. Etsy advertises itself as a place that sells handmade, craft supplies, and vintages. It is a big BS.
Report their shady practices to Federal Trade Commission and local state attorney. Because it has ruined many middle class Americans' lives by closing their stores without explanation and warnings. I am not talking about myself. What I made on Etsy is not even enough to cover my one month's rent. There are many hardworking Americans who spent years working on their Etsy shop and rely on Etsy for their sole income. Many of these people had their shops shut down for no reason without any warning. I think shutting down businesses without warnings, even though businesses can prove that they comply with Etsy's policies is actually illegal. Check with your state attorney's office.

I had an Etsy store for 10 months and every month my store made more and more money. I was paying Etsy over $675.00 per month in fees when out of the blue they closed my store. The email I received told me that Non-Christian items were no longer acceptable to be sold on ETSY. A couple pictures of hand carved Wands with large Crystals on the ends and a picture of a wooden Box with a hand carved wooden Pentacle were attached to the email.
I was informed that now that ETSY had been purchased when it went public, the new owners had the right to exclude any and all non-Christian items or stores selling items not in line with the Christian Faith. I have a B.A. in Fashion Design and an M.A in Fine Art. My work was popular and I had a real following, but this is Donald Trump's USA now, we're only living in it. I am actually GLAD that they decided to show their true faces to me.
I am already almost finished setting up my new store with NO limits and my OWN Website Design. My husband has a Masters from M.I.T., and he had already been loading a separate drive with everything, like all our photos, my long descriptions, weights, measurements, client profiles and all the wonderful Gifts I send out to all my customers for every order all the time. This helps me to Not give the same type or the same gifts to my regulars. I cannot tell you what a slap in the face it was to have my store closed, but NEW DOORS painted in Bright Colors Open to those willing to step out of the Swamp called ETSY. I have never in my life written a negative review, but I think this needs to be said. Etsy has some of the worst customer service I have ever witnessed. I recently went on to buy a couple Christmas gifts and got all the way to checkout before I received a notice that my account was suspended. I was shocked as I haven't been on the site in at least a year. Thinking it was a mistake, I reached out to support on Etsy. They explained to me that I would need to scan them a copy of photo ID to verify my identity on my credit card (even though it was an old card and obviously not one I wanted to use). I explained that as they already had all of my billing and credit card information, I didn't feel comfortable sending my photo ID as well because that just seems sketchy. I asked if they had other ways of verifying because I have never had this issue with any other company. Instead of offering another solution, they told me that was the only option.
As I had found the same items at better prices elsewhere I didn't feel the need to support a company that put in so little effort. I replied simply asking that they cancel my account as I no longer needed the items. I was annoyed when a day later I went to check and found my account had been deactivated, but they couldn't be bothered to send an email confirming that they had done so. I decided to take their survey that follows the Etsy support emails and detailed my disappointment with the support I was given. Etsy couldn't even find the time to follow up after receiving a complaint. Their lack of empathy, help and interest in a customer astounds me. I have never witnessed a company so happy to drive customers away. Yes, I may not have been on the site in a year, but you can be sure I will be telling all of my friends who are active on the site of the fantastic deals and service I found elsewhere.

My complaint is that my shop was also shut down even though I was never notified and my shop is independent of my husband's. I have separate bank account, credit card, etc. The only thing in common was we had the isp because we are on the same server.
I sent Etsy countless emails to explain and sent proof that my account was separate but all I got was boilerplate messages that appeared computer generated. I requested a phone call and an appeal. 5 days later, I got an email that said decision was final and now I am suspended forever. The seller assured me that I would get my item with no problems exactly the way I ordered them. Upon receiving my items the bathing suit broke as soon as I was trying it on and it was not even close to the measurements we discussed or that were advertised. I opened a case and proved my case above and beyond but because the tag on the inside of the swimsuit said the size I ordered they refused to side with the buyer... So moral of the story is they can send you any size they want as long as the size on the merchandise says what you ordered...
If the listing says bust is up to 40 inches and they send you a 22 inch bust, as long as the tag says extra large like you ordered they will not offer buyer Protection no matter how much you can prove the bust is only 22 inches and not the 40 inches you were promised... On top of that because they took so long to close the case I was not allowed to leave a review for the seller... After receiving zero response I reached out to Etsy for help. Despite admitting they could see that the seller wasn’t responding and that their shop was closed they said they wouldn’t help until over three weeks later due to the sellers “shop policies”. I have been on Etsy for years and have five star rating. I make corsets and chokers and now am launching a new line. I get the client's measurements in order to start sewing their order, I am a USA designer and work from the USA. So here is where I had a issue. Etsy integrity team accused me of not designing my pieces because they saw a corset that looks like mine on Alibaba. (Anyone that knows about the internet many of the Alibaba factories are overseas and some of those factories copy many of the products on the net and make a cheaper version).
That said I sent Etsy proof of my work via photos. I sent pictures of my corset unsewn still in pattern cut form, steel rods inserts I use, my machines, and more, and instead of looking at the facts that are being presented, I got insulted by someone named Niko's from their integrity team and they want me to take everything down from my site even pieces that are only on my site, that have not been taken from a copycat.
My testimonials versus the stars on the overseas corset are way different. Like I said I have 5 stars and these other factories have 1 to 3 because they use plastic and not steel. the second thing is I stand by that these are my designs and I don't have control over who copycats them. But the proof is in the pudding! I have sent this team so much proof, I even sent testimonies that copycats have on their websites and again their testimonials fall short compared to the ones on my site. But the integrity team never looked at the proof I sent them and automatically sided with Alibaba only because they saw a photo a vendor from overseas posted on the Alibaba site, so they automatically side with the big corporation and don't protect their sellers.
I went as far as to find others that are going through issues with the copycats (that by the way go as far as to steal our photos). Anyway I sent the Etsy team a link from a vendor on Alibaba that the photo belongs to a Etsy vendor. How do I know, I know the Etsy vendors work and the photo on Alibaba has the Etsy vendors watermark on the photo which shows the photo was stolen from overseas, and that got ignored but the Etsy team and he proceeded to insult me. I have not gotten help, I got chopped at the knees by this integrity team. There was no investigation, they found a photo on Alibaba that is all over the internet of my design and that was enough for this Niko guy to call me names in spite of all the proof I provided.
Also what does this say about Etsy's belief in their handmade designer and artist. Because it seems like they don't feel you can make work that is amazing, and I say that because of the doubt he showed when he took the vendors side that is on Alibaba only because of the photo he had posted without any further proof verses me that I provided a lot of proof. There is more injustice in Etsy, but it is just so much to write. I will however be filing a formal complaint against Etsy because insulted me calling me a liar and thief is crossing the line. Anyone that knows me knows I have been honest, I will also be making a short film on me cutting my corsets.
Below are only 2 photos out of many that I sent Etsy. The 2 below show my hand holding up the steel boning that I use and holding a front panel to my corset my corset has 6 panels in the front and 6 in the back, but they never took this in consideration to reinstate my shop. I even complied with taking down a couple of things they told me to take down so that can reinstate me and now they are saying I did not take them down when I did.

Came across this review site searching for something else, and was surprised to see the multiple negative reviews about Etsy. Etsy isn't perfect--nothing is--but they're protective of both buyers and sellers, which I appreciate. I've been a seller on Etsy for two years, and have made several purchases through Etsy stores. In my experience, Etsy is courteous and has many benefits over some other large online shop platforms. Their fees are reasonable. If you use Etsy Direct, your purchases and sales are all protected. The fees include, at no extra charge, a professional accounting system for your records and tax purposes. You can print professional packing slips and receipts for all orders. You can use Etsy shipping labels, which provides your customers with a discount over retail shipping, tracking, and the option to purchase shipping insurance with each purchase.
You can promote with sales and coupons and in several other ways. Several negative reviews I read cannot be true, or are outright deceptive. Etsy does not hold your money for the first 90 days. If you do not pay your shipping and transaction fees when you go over your credit amount, they will of course wait for you to pay what you owe them before disbursing your payment. I always pay the fees as soon as the funds are available, which is the next business day, because I do not want to have to deal with credit, personally. If these reviews from stores and buyers are true, which I have my doubts, then there is a lot they are not telling about what actually happened. If a store is shut down, that would be from many customer complaints, not just one or two. Some of the customer reviews here are not right, either.
If the seller's description of the product or shipping time was inaccurate, Etsy would side with the buyer. Some international buyers try to coerce shops into marking a purchase as a "gift" so they will not have to pay customs duties. Then if the seller doesn't do that, they will leave a low review because they didn't help them cheat. Some buyers try to get a product for free, because they can get away with that on other platforms. If they can prove their claim, they will get a refund. If not, they won't, and that is as it should be. The protection needs to be on both sides of the transaction. That is why I appreciate Etsy's policies. I notice a lot of the negative reviews are trying to tell people to buy and sell on Amazon instead. Makes me wonder how many of them are paid trolls.

After checking the shipping periods I realised the seller was being less than honest and opened a case. The seller had not provided a tracking number, yet after less than a day Etsy customer support person decided in their favour.
When I queried the decision it became clear that they hadn't conducted any investigations and I had simply been sent a 'form' response. When I queried it again, I was sent another form response, this time mentioning a tracking number which didn't exist. I have just contacted them a third time and received the same response. Where do I begin? Etsy is sold as a crafter/dealer centric "community " where sellers of handmade and vintage goods meet with like-minded buyers. They provide a "forum" for questions and discussions about the Etsy experience but that is where their customer service ends. People with valid grievances are kicked off the forum right and left (I myself am banned for pointing out several fallacies). Now I'm faced with a review extortion by a buyer who has had 4 items for 5 weeks, wants money off and wants to keep the items! If I don't comply Etsy will allow her to whack me with a bad review for each item. There is no preemptive action I can take short of allowing this buyer to rip me off by refunding her and allowing her to keep 400.00 worth of my merchandise. Merchandise she says is defective... But wants to keep.
The review process is skewed anyway. Buyers have to wait 19 days to leave a review and even a deliriously happy customer will have moved on by then. But... Etsy also allows buyers to EDIT their reviews for 100 days. So you're basically held in limbo for 100 days after making a sale. This is frankly intolerable. Stay away from Etsy. It's a money funnel right into their pockets. Not yours.

The site concept in itself is cool however if a user gives a negative review they delete it! I reviewed a user because the shipping took over a month and gave my honest opinion! I gave credit to the user for replying quickly and quick shipment out and then stated that it needs to be posted. Shipping takes over a month! I explained how I was now out the money because the gift I had ordered was not there for the event in which I needed it to be... I receive a long email from the user displaying how upset she was. I Gave an honest review. I then received another email as depicted below stating that my review had been deleted! The only grounds for deleting it is that it was negative. So be careful of ordering off of Etsy! You never know if a service is good or not because they delete all the bad reviews!

I will not use Etsy again. I ordered an item from Canada and was told the shipping would be £14.25. I ordered and then had a note from the post office to say I had to collect and pay an additional £12.40 in customs charges. This is something the seller did not make me aware of and would not refund. Therefore I am allowing the item to be just shipped back to her so that I do not collect and pay the extra fee. If I had the item would have cost me more than double what it was worth! Not happy as now she will only refund the item price and not the £14.25 shipping and therefore I have paid that money for nothing. ALL BUYERS BEWARE.

I ordered a maternity gown for photos from Miss Madison Photo Shop. The gown received was not remotely close to what was depicted in the photos. The color was wrong, it had exposed slapstick, frayed edges, and looked cheap. Their policy states you can return in 14 days. The shop would not allow me to, for no given reason. I then filed a complaint with Etsy. In the meantime, I posted a review on MissMadisonPhotoProp's website. The owner, Sunny **, proceeded to email me and threaten my career of working with autistic kids with her husband who is a federal agent. I provided Etsy with this conversation as further proof. Etsy then sided with this company, stating I tried on the dress, therefore it had been worn and I couldn't return. Don't expect Etsy to help the consumer. I provided more than enough evidence, I was personally threatened, I had to purchase a second dress, and I'm out $236.

After being an Etsy seller since 2005 I just had my store permanently closed for reason of a few claims being opened, mainly because buyers have no idea they are opening a claim simply by asking a question. Literally, only a handful of customers’ items became delayed after several family tragedies hit me all at once. We are taking a 3 months’ span here out of 12 years on Etsy. Did they care -- of course not. Just an excuse to exert power. Got behind on a few orders, and refunded a few, always immediately. I always kept great communication with the buyers and took care of my responsibility to them. My store's policy stated clearly, custom items may be delayed longer than expected. I had a perfect reputation up until then. Nonetheless I took care to get back on track. Lo and behold a guy from Spain who had trouble reading English got impatient.
Etsy support says they are closing my shop permanently. However, I had just gotten two orders that needed filling -- $300.00 worth of custom leather work. Etsy refused to give me "MY" money paid to me from those customers. Claiming they needed to hold it in case something was returned. Now never once did I ever mistreat a customer. It was all there in messages. My shop policy said 7-day return on custom items. Yet Etsy says they will hold my money 6 months -- hmmm. I had to put the money out for materials, pay shipping and my Etsy fees. Etsy support does not care, they just keep repeating that policy crap over and over, claiming they will not respond further to my request for my money. Sorry but isn't that stealing? I agree with another person on here who mentioned Etsy not caring about the homemade artisan, only their cheap overseas commercial product vendors.
It's a joke they get away with what they do with a 1-star rating. Yes, Etsy has a 1-star rating on every review site. It is at their digression to up and close a shop you work hard on establishing. They don't hold stock in it and they are not a partner, why it's legal for them to do this, since they are literally only an advertising venue? They claim it is to protect sellers. From what? I read on here and other reviews they don't do that either. Since this happened to me I've read several small businesses claiming very similar situations. Sorry but Etsy is too big for its britches -- You need to go Etsy, you are a sham of a company who has ousted all of your American handmade artists for cheaply made crap from overseas. I use only top quality leathers in my work, yet I see Asian shops selling leather bracelets made from PU leather.
Ok well guess what? PU leather doesn't just stink, but lo and behold, it's not leather! It's imitation leather, however none of them state this. How many consumers know that? Why can they even use the word leather without place imitation or faults in front of it. Why buy a one of a kind handmade leather bracelet from me for $50. When you can get a genuine piece of crap made from imitation leather for $5. I am seeking advice from a lawyer because I feel the severity of damage against the small American businesses Etsy has caused is reason to take action against them. If I fall behind in orders or things go awry that is "my" issue, it's "my" business.
It is up to me to fix it, and to have an opportunity to do that without having Etsy stepping in and tell me 12 years of hard work doesn't matter. Had consumers been ripped-off or cheated, then yes, by all means shut me down, but that was not the case here, really a minor infraction when you consider it in the grand scheme. The fact that Etsy thinks they can play judge, jury, and executioner is wrong all the way around. Regardless of what their wordy, ridiculously, absurd policies are saying this is an injustice and a bad business practice. Cutting the throats of small business who they made their billions from. Someone needs to see this practice they have of controlling someone's livelihood when they don't have any stock in it should be against the law period. There has to be something somewhere that states they are crossing a legal line with their procedures, excuses and policies.

They will close your shop and all the fees that you paid per listing to update in your shop will not be returned to you. I had 2 working shops that did very well - over 1500 sales a year with an income of more than 90k a year and was just very profitable to Etsy with all the sales... I have had the absolute WORST experience with Etsy with them holding my money. I understand if you are a seller under 90 days but my account has been verified and not the first time I've sold. I have so many orders to where I reach my threshold on shipping credit and have to pay well over $100 because of the amount of orders I have. I have close to 30 sales going to the US and overseas. I don't have the money and as I've told them. I can't pay you until you pay me! And why can't you just take the money out of what you are holding.
Every time I call or email customer service, I get called or emailed with a different disbursement date. Then I've read customer reviews and now terrified because a lot are awful. They operate as though they run this company with 3 employees out of a barn. If you ask for a manager or a supervisor, "they will see if they can find someone". You are left just stuck in the middle with no resolve with customers awaiting products that they paid for along with shipping they also paid for while they sit up and hold your money then lie to you about disbursement dates.
Everyone has the same textbook speech when you call to inquire or complain and they email the same textbook response. Etsy does not care about their customer base at all. This is the worse online selling experience I have ever encountered and I will never do business with them again. The worse part is you just have to sit here and hope and wait and there is nothing you can do about it and nobody does anything about them with all the complaints I have read.

I am a little bit recognized, so I mentioned my books/awards because Etsy deals with a LOT of talented artists and unfortunately the untalented, unsympathetic, callous employee in Etsy's offices do not have the brains to recognize that when they disregard these artists that they burn their own livelihoods to the ground. What I believe is that because so many of their executives have left over the years the ones that have stayed in their Brooklyn offices believe that because they "stuck with Etsy" that they can treat sellers and buyers the way that they want to because every new executive that comes on board is looking to those that have been there like they are the glue that holds the HOUSE OF SAND together.
Now look at that picture and laugh instead of being angry. It's like looking at another toddler in the sandbox who throws sand in your face by putting his hand in the bucket he is holding and going through the hole in the bottom of it to the sandbox floor thinking he has a great shiny red bucket but you see him as an idiot that just got sand in your eyes while showing off a defective bucket. That's Etsy! A defective bucket located in a rat-infested and bed-bug infested city. I'll never live there! So, here we are - Etsy complainers and "FEEBAYERS." We have a LOT to offer as artists/artisans so WHY are we wasting our time with venues that cripple our time(?) What say we - tell all and take flight. Etsy is on a witch hunt suspending the accounts of the most successful designers on their platform. I have been designing Renaissance and Historical costumes since 1999. Our line was so successful from the start, that I dedicated my time in full to our business and my two daughters joined me shortly thereafter. Through the years, the demand continued to grow. We then set up a shop in India since we were unable to find a manufacturer in the US that was willing to work with a small business such as ours and most smaller sewing companies had already gone belly up. As our designs became more and more popular, other shops starting making variations of the design and Chinese sellers started flooding the market with obviously cheap versions. The only visible difference online was our photographs in which model and musician Kara Markley graced our designs.
Fashion can be copied but not photographs. We were able to take down those sellers who were trying to use our photographs and that gave us the unique look of our store. When Etsy opened its doors to designers who were in our situation and were having their products manufactured by other companies, we joined them. This happened in 2012. The difference with us was that we own our shop in India, so we have 100% control over quality and how the costumes are made. No sooner had we reached 8000 sales and got a notice congratulating us, the presumptuous "integrity" department contacted us asking to tell them how to make our best design giving them full details. No designer will ever disclose that information.
I told them I would be happy to send them the details of how we make a less popular dress but they insisted on the one design and told me that our business did not meet Etsy's business requirements since we didn't design or make the items in our store. I told them, as I had before that I designed them. At this point, a gal or guy named Nico told me that our items were mass produced and sold all over the internet and as an example sent me a link to our own store in Etsy and to our store in Amazon. She/he did not give me the chance to tell her/him that she had sent me a link to our own store elsewhere because she said they were done with us and would not look at our emails again. Etsy has no clue of what their business is doing... or the so called "integrity" dept. has gone off a tangent believing themselves to be God.
On the one hand they opened their doors to companies like ours then they shut us down because we are too successful and our costumes are sold in other platforms by us and are copied by other sellers. All in all, Etsy ended up being a waste of time for us. The path they are taking will continue their downfall because they will lose designers who are successful to companies less self-righteous, like Amazon and the New eBay. eBay, by the way, did the same thing before and they almost went down. The new management in eBay had the presence of mind to realize their mistake and corrected it, thus keeping a lot of their top sellers but not before losing some of their best. I read the blog by Deborah Lindquist, one of the top wedding dress/accessories and eco aware designers, internationally recognized as such.
They kicked her out too! You can find her story in her website's blog. Other platforms are benefiting from Etsy's unbelievably bad move from a business standpoint. Many designers are moving to Shopify and to Amazon. I am waiting for the day in which Amazon will open up a section for designers much like what Etsy claims to be but is not. The market is lacking in the uniqueness of individual creativeness as Chinese goods invade the market. Hopefully, Amazon would be able to recognize the distinction between mass produced and small designers who make more than one of the same item as the big ones do.

I have been an Etsy shop owner since 2009 and have a perfect track record with Etsy. I have always followed the rules and only sold handmade goods in my shop, unlike other shops that buy cheap stuff from China and resale them at super low prices, claiming to be handmade. I have hundreds of awesome reviews left by satisfied customers. When Etsy announced it was offering wholesale opportunities for "ALL" shop owners, I immediately applied. Without any sort of explanation, my shop was rejected. Here is the email I received: "After a review of your application we feel your business is not the right fit for the buyers on Etsy Wholesale. To protect the integrity of our marketplace, we’re unable to disclose our review criteria. At this time, we do not require additional information to reconsider your application. We wish you success with your growing business. All the best, Clark Etsy Wholesale"
I truly feel that this is discrimination. Everyone who owns an Etsy shop should have an equal opportunity to do wholesale. I am very disappointed in Etsy over this. And they can't even tell me why my shop has been rejected when I have done nothing to break the rules. Why offer this to everyone if you are not going to give everyone an equal opportunity? I have never felt so limited by Etsy in my business endeavors and discriminated against. How many other Etsy shop owners feel the same as I do? So I requested that I would like to escalate this to their supervisor or someone of higher authority. This is the final response that I got: "I understand that this is not the desired resolution. However, this decision remains final. Because we've provided all of the information that we're able to share, my team and I will be unable to respond to any further emails on the subject. Best regards, Taylor Etsy Wholesale"
WOW... just WOW. Thanks for rejecting my application, for not answering my questions, for no logical explanation of why my handmade products are being rejected by your wholesale GANGSTA market, for basically discrimination against "certain unworthy" Etsy shops. I am super disappointed in Etsy and this is making me want to close shop. Especially after reading all of the horror stories on here about shops getting shut down without warning, funds seized and no explanation of why. How unprofessional is that?! It's a good thing I decided to open my own webstore independent of Etsy because apparently, it's a sinking ship. For many years I have had trouble with Etsy, mainly communication. Not being able to log in then getting inane "solutions" that did not work, I'd just go round and round in an endless loop of changing passwords, still not being able to log in and being advised to change password again, If you cannot log in you cannot communicate your issues, their whole attitude was, "we don't care". So I did not deal with them for years. Then I wanted to buy a pair of shoes for a special occasion and found what I thought were perfect in a store called Vodum. Well I was wrong! The first communication with Vodum was "nice" polite, etc however all ensuing attempts at communication yielded an attitude of, "You stupid customer, read the website". Read the website as I may I STILL cannot find a size guide. Ask as I did I was frustrated with non answers and evasions.
In the end I foolishly took a chance, ordered the shoes, paid the money. I had recently bought a pair of shoes sized US 7.5 and they fitted me fine. When the shoes finally arrived from Vodum I could not get even half of my foot in the shoe. I asked to return and was smugly told, "You should have read the returns policy". On going back to the site I find a very well hidden returns policy which even when I found it is fairly ambiguous. Item finally arrived 10 days late. Buyer immediately found that the lamp was made of Pine, not Teak as stated in Seller's Ad Title. Teak is significantly more valuable than Pine. Seller never questioned the type of wood at any time, suggesting that he knowingly misrepresented lamp or had questions about its actual material. Seller refused return since ad description stated that item was light colored wood and did not restate TEAK as in the title. Seller then adopted a hostile position in multiple emails to Seller. ETSY intervened but did not require Seller to provide a Prepaid return shipping label even though they determined that Seller is 100% liable for misrepresenting the lamp.
Since return shipping is more than 60% of item and Seller has shown hostility toward Buyer, Buyer cannot depend upon Seller's integrity to refund all return costs. Buyer refused to return item unless Seller provided a Pre-paid Shipping Label. Neither ETSY nor Seller, "WhatsOnTheMantel", responded to Buyer's demand. By Seller's logic: FOR SALE: 2002 BUICK REGAL. I had no relationship with their shop whatsoever. They also decided to hold my remaining funds from my sales for 180 days, even though all my final merchandise was delivered with proof of tracking. It should be illegal to hold funds for that amount of time when everything has been delivered and accepted. Sellers, if you are relying on Etsy for your only income, please beware that they can shut you down without any warning and for any reason. They don't even give you the courtesy of a warning and also refuse to discuss the problem to find a solution.
Not to mention that they have no phone number to call with questions, they will only call you after you have sent an email and even then you are not allowed to speak with the "higher ups" who make these decisions. Etsy is not a marketplace for finding unique handcrafted items. A majority of the listings are resellers in all categories that buy cheap from China and pass off their products as handmade or vintage. Prices are so low for these items that a person handcrafting the same item, even if materials were bought at wholesale, could never produce the product for the same price. Maybe handcrafted it no longer desirable, or maybe Etsy is too beholding to its shareholder to keep profits high. Whichever the reason, the vision Etsy started with as being a selling platform for artisan crafters has been replaced with an eBay like platform and a race to the bottom with the lowest prices and skill be damned. In May of 2017, Etsy sent us a letter that said if we got 1 negative review, or had a case opened against us, then we would be suspended and our money held for 120 days.
I had made the mistake, of writing Etsy in November about some concerns, and asking about making the shipping time on the invoices longer. They said that it would not change and just to be sure to tell our customers that we had a long wait. We did this. We told each person that we were 14 weeks out on orders, as well as put it in the listings, shipping pages and policies. Well, one day, someone did not contact us first about their order, and just opened a case. That was it. Our shop and our money was gone. How does someone run a $40,000+ a month business and then snap, nothing? How do we pay our employees and our bills?
Etsy has ruined us. They just do not care. They lost $2,000+ a month in fees just from us. Not to mention, all of the other people that have left because of the new checkout policies. It's ok for a person with a hobby, it's not good for someone who wants to really make it. From other things I've read online, it's only a matter of time before they go belly up too.

Contacted them back 8 times without a reply. Found a message machine that just says leave a message online so you don't even know if it is actually this company. Etsy is no eBay. There is no real recourse with them. So you are out of luck and money if there is an issue. Do not buy from Etsy or their vendor bestnamenecklace.

On Jun 13 I ordered the three insulated beach bags. The same day I received a confirmation of purchase stating the order # and that processing time is 3-5 business days. As I have been accustomed to getting a secondary email for shipped orders on other ETSY transactions and had never had issues before, I awaited my package, thinking it would arrive within a month or so. On July 11, 2017 I realized I had not received the bags and went searching for the email with a tracking number or any information regarding the shipping process. I found the email with the tracking information, clicked on the link and noticed it stated it had been delivered on Jun 26.
This surprised me for a few reasons. First of all I did not receive an email when stating my order had been shipped and secondly 90% of my ETSY transactions were a ‘sign on receipt of product’ transaction meaning more often than not I had to go to the Fed Ex or Post office and sign for them as I am rarely home upon delivery. It turns out this time Fed Ex left the package there as it was not sent as a ‘sign upon receipt’ package. At this point I follow ETSY’s prompts and confirm it is the correct address, yes it is. I contact the seller and she states the following “Unfortunately there isn't a lot I can do on my end. Once it is given to the carrier I don't have any say or control over what happens. They are responsible for it at that point. I would recommend contacting FedEx with the tracking number and seeing if they can help find it!”
So, I follow what has been asked of me despite the discouragement that the seller came across not interested in helping locate my items. Fed Ex’s response was that because it was past a two week window of their delivery date on file I was unable to open a complaint, however the seller could in order to recoup her money. I explained to the woman that I was out the money and not the seller, she told me that because I was not the shipper there is nothing I could do and to contact the seller as it is their responsibility. I contacted the seller again outlining this and requesting a solution and was again directed to put in my own claim. ETSY has also been less than helpful, claiming it is not expected that the seller reimburse me or send another product out but that they ‘hope’ we can work it out. There seems to be little accountability for the seller here.
Here are a few ways this could have been remedied: I should have received an email stating the item had been shipped. Receiving some type of compensation seeing as the seller is able to make an insurance claim recouping most if not all of her money. However I am out both money AND the product itself. ETSY having a policy that orders over X amount of dollars (for example $25-30) require a signature upon pick up. With less than three weeks until my wedding I have had to search for someone else with a similar product, pay again and hope I can get my money back. Not only is it frustrating that I have to start over with the gifts, I am out of money and time but that there was no compassion from the seller at all, not even to meet me half way. I definitely would not purchase from this person again and IF I ever purchase from ETSY sellers at all I will make sure they are ‘sign upon receipt’ type packages.

I was a successful seller on Etsy for 2 years with my mom and sister. Out of the sudden someone flagged my listing. I e-mailed Integrity department to find out why this happened and how to fix that. Instead of an answer I received generic and vague e-mail saying our shop does not qualify for etsy market. No explanation. Nothing. There was a point saying that we might have lied about our store location or size of our business!!! And we disclosed all information about us. Even address, links to our other web pages. We thought etsy is a cozy and frank community. In fact, it is an abusive corporation that wants your money and makes re-sellers flourish while abusing small business.
We were selling handmade jewelry and accessories. We did everything by ourselves. The e-mail said that our store will be deleted in one month. I asked for detailed information. Account was instantly suspended and money frozen. Etsy took our money (they did not refund money we spent on listings-around 100$). I had to cancel 3 orders. I still hoped this is a misunderstanding. Later it turned out my partner is blocked as well! She was using the same computer from time to time. We also work in the same building. She was contacting etsy support as well. They responded that she is banned because of overlapping information between our accounts.
We tried to explain we are separate people. She did not have a store. She was just shopping on etsy. Yet, we all got blocked. We asked what should one do if s/he lived in a household with people who have other etsy accounts. Not even stores!!! No response, no explanation. 2 years down the drain!!! Integrity department is not trying to help anyone. Etsy support is not supportive or nice. Etsy can destroy your store anytime without any explanation. They can make you feel like a criminal without you even violating any policies. Just because they like playing God. My advice to all of you - do not open stores there. If you can buy directly from a seller or on other site - please do. Because one day a seller can get closed without any reason, lose clients. Before that paying thousands of $ for etsy in taxes and ad fees. This is a horrible company with abysmal, usually non-existent customer service.

In 2013 Etsy changed its platform from one who allows artists to sell handmade crafts and art to one where anyone can sell anything. This opened the doors to vendors from China, Taiwan, and Timbuktu. You may end up waiting months for an item to arrive, if it does. I ordered cabinet handles that were not as described - pieces that were a "set" to fit together. I'd asked the seller about some specifics about the items, the height, if they were meant for drawers. I was assured they'd "work perfectly." They arrived with pieces packaged differently, by different manufacturers and would not fit. The screws were too short, the finishes didn't match, not a set. I had to pay to ship them back before I could get a refund and could not get my shipping charges of $13.60 refunded.
The seller claimed she never received the items back (I had proof of delivery). I did finally get a refund nagging "Etsy Support" which is really nonexistent. I don't know why I should be out over $13 due to seller misrepresentation. When I asked why she assured me they'd work, she said, "I never checked", listing was incorrect. I want my $13.60 refunded. The support personnel don't have any authority to do anything to resolve an issue. It's buyer and seller beware. You could be dealing with someone on the other side of the world with no protection. Don't spend money you don't mind losing.

I have been a seller on Etsy since 2010. I considered myself successful, since my sales had reached at least $1,000 a month for 2 or more years... consistently. In Oct. 2016, my sales became nearly non-existent. This abrupt halt in sales forced me into foreclosure on my home, and I nearly lost my car. In April, 2017, I received an email from Etsy stating they had been conducting "experiments" on shops. The email referenced an Announcement in the forums. When I went to the forums, I was horrified to find out that many sellers were experiencing the same thing. We were given no notice, we continued to list and renew items, while sales dwindled. To be told 6 months later seems criminal. Many successful sellers have reported being homeless when these "experiments" cost them what had been a consistent income. I was not receiving the services I paid for.
I have since learned that Etsy manipulates search, hijacks links that people pay to promote their listings, and they suspended nearly 60,000 shops that refused to accept the Etsy payment processor (these shops preferred PayPal as their processor). These shops were suspended before their listing expired, therefore, they were not able to receive the service they had paid for. Etsy has begun the practice of showing other seller items on OUR listings, stripping our shops of all branding we have been "taught" to achieve. Etsy has ignored the pleas of the sellers, and has begun closing any negative threads and permanently muting sellers who voice their complaints. Etsy's actions have had a serious effect on the livelihoods of experienced sellers. Buyer complaints also fill the forums, as the cart is impossible to work with. How can they continue to get away with this?

Etsy, customer service allows this bully buyer to dictate their actions and have suspended my store. The buyer received a refund even though I did not receive the brooch I had sold them. It's been agonizing for over a month. I want to end this matter and have refunded their shipping. Now buyer tells ETSY to keep my store closed until I get the brooch. It's been over a month and I did not get brooch - I don't even want it back because I just want to carry on. ETSY customer service rarely communicates with me and follows the bullying directions of the buyer. I've had an Etsy shop since the middle of 2013 and have sold over 2,000+ items and have an overall rating of 4.8 stars. Suddenly, my shop was shut down this year because of one "non-delivery" case that was opened against my shop. The item was delivered to the customer and when I tried to contact Etsy they told me "too bad" and they were unwilling to work with me again. For someone who has invested $1,000's of dollars in my company have a prescience on Etsy you would think they would at least give me an explanation as to why an item that was delivered to my customer would be the reason for my shop to be shut down.
At this point, Etsy has not responded to ANY of my emails or phone calls since this time and has told me they will be holding onto all of my funds for 6 months! Overall, since Etsy has gone public as a company I have seen a huge decline in their customer service for both their buyers and sellers. After being a faithful Etsy seller for six years I was suddenly kicked off. They informed me that I was kicked off for knowing my daughter who had been kicked off. My daughter was kicked off for following ThreeBirdNest's example and selling manufactured goods. My daughter researched and saw that manufactured goods are now allowed, but was kicked off for selling them.
Etsy did reinstate my account but then I was promptly attacked by a member that bought an item, forced a return then returned a box of rags! I had a no return policy so I had sent a check to our landlord after selling the item. The funds were yanked out of my account, I was prosecuted for writing bad checks, was sentenced to jail time and my daughter and I have homeless ever since.
I attempted to get my store back up and running after we started living in a motel, but my store name has disappeared from search results, my Facebook page has too and I do not show up in Etsy's search either. Etsy ruined my life for no reason. For those of you who think I should go get a job I am by the way in a wheelchair for life and have been turned down twice for Social Security benefits. Anyone who does business with Etsy is contributing to a company that is very cruel and unfair.

Etsy is solely interested in its own bottom line, hence the mass layoffs and stock plummets of late. If you're thinking of becoming a seller on Etsy, understand that they are not helpful in any situation. All is left in the hands of the buyer and even in the case of an unfair review (as I was left 2, tried to contact the buyers to make them happy as is suggested by Etsy, but I went ignored), they side with the buyer, UNLESS the buyer is slandering the "Etsy" name. Then, all bets are off and they will go to the end of the earth to clear their own name, not yours. Fees are high. SEO knowledge is a must as this is not the simple platform of years ago. They will also shut your store with no warning for any reason they deem fit. This was done to me twice as I was accused of not creating my own items (which are completely unique and one of a kind, not mass produced).
I had to photograph my work space, supplies and step by step creation of the product to prove that I do in fact DO exactly as I state, I hand sew them. I create my own graphic designs as well with 3 software programs. Suddenly a popular design I had in my shop started showing up in shops!! A "graphic designer" shop had stolen the exact design off my shirt and was selling it as their own so people could mass produce MY design that I created! I contacted Etsy and they literally gave me a vague answer that it was "hearsay" more or less. When I stated I was going to look into my legal rights when they would not help me, my shop was revoked and closed with no warning. So now you need to be worried about others stealing your designs. From speaking to other shop owners, I've learned there are so many massive pitfalls to this site, ones I wasn't even aware of. I wouldn't want to support an organization that is clearly biased.
Many, many of the shops are simply reselling mass produced items that are not handmade, but this is overlooked because they sell such a high volume and that benefits Etsy's bottom line. Moral of the story, apply to Amazon Handmade. They may be more expensive in fees at the moment, but they are the next massive retailer and they will overtake Etsy in the next year or so. And the exposure of Amazon is something Etsy simply can't compete with. And if Amazon isn't the place for you, find other outlets. Etsy has zero interests in its "artists" (I use that term loosely because if you look up some of the items in the baby category, you can see multiple of the literal exact same item in various shops, hence nobody was creative and made that item), only its own bottom line.
Updated on 12/03/2017: I had a very successful shop on Etsy for years and was a consumer and supporter of small businesses and often shopped. I design my own clothing with 3 graphic software programs. I then saw my original design popping up in other shops. Contacted Etsy and was told I needed to prove it was my original design. How I could do that, I have no clue other than to reflect the time it was first listed for sale versus the other shops. Then I was accused of not hand embellishing items. I sent them all required documentation and photographs depicting my process, my workspace, my supplies. I have noticed that the large shops with mass produced items from overseas (that also operate with a few different names, same photos, different logos) were popping up all over with huge sales numbers.
So I dared to inquire about this. I was not answered and my shop was suddenly shut down. I inquired to have it reopen being that I have a 5 star review rating and was told my "approval rating is low and poses a risk to their market" and "we will no longer be responding to you". Seriously??? I would put that into plain English and say Etsy was caught with its pants down and doesn't want to be called on it. I'm starting to think possibly a class action lawsuit could arise at some point. I've been hearing this story far too often lately. Moral is, stay away from Etsy. They look out for their own bottom line only at any cost.

HORRIBLE transaction. Awful experience. Customer service, non-existent. First time, last time shopping with this seller. I left a gentle message with my order (Etsy Hieroglyphic Rubber Roller Stamp) about no huge boxes, or damage to the item. I added a please, and a smiley face, doing what I could because electronic communication is all we have on ETSY. Well, this seller clearly had a meltdown based on previous complaints about damaged orders, (which they didn't hesitate to mention to me). As a seller, you are selling yourself not just the item. Thin skin and selling do not go together. These are uncertain times for Americans economically speaking. So I don't care if it's 14.00 dollars OR .14 cents, there's a realistic expectation to be shown appreciation as a valued, paying customer. In other words, goods and services with a smile, (not a bad attitude, and complaints about previous buyers that have nothing to do with me).
I would've asked for a full refund, but that'd prolong interaction and frustration. Lesson learned, moving on. There are other vendors to shop with. I like supporting small business owners and do so when I can. Shipping was slow which concerned me too. They used "pre-shipping". 2 business days came and went, and the tracking showed "Awaiting Item"'. For these 2 reasons I do not recommend this seller. 0 Stars. It's plain, in ratio, most people only speak when they have a grievance. This leads to a society where the satisfied could have negative changes come about to satisfy the few who complained. I've used Etsy for only a year, but in that time I furnished a bedroom at one home, and most an entire house at another... from queen bed frames to coffee table and end tables, to cutting boards. And for me anyway, the system worked. Of the 40 or so transactions, I had an issue with only one, the seller didn't deliver after a bit over 3 months. The reasoning was they had their first baby. I created a dispute just to protect myself but had good faith they would deliver.
Etsy gave a deadline, they promised to it... and didn't deliver... so Etsy automatically closed the case and refunded me. That's life. Obviously as a buyer I was satisfied. I'm sure the seller feels he was treated unfairly. *Shrug*. 3 months is a risky position for the buyer to be out $800, so I'm pleased that Etsy had my back just in case it became never. But back to the good news, the sellers I met are great people with great skills. I truly hope Etsy treats both parties fairly. I have been selling handmade products on this site for almost 2 years now and Etsy has made thousands of dollars off the top of my sales and offered very little to no help to either myself or buyers. The platform is very restrictive in the way of listing items for sale with multiple buying options such as size, color, style, etc. This forces you to re-list the same item in different ways to allow the customer to choose extra buying options in which you as the seller are charged additional fees for each listing. There are lots of hidden costs like restocking fees, processing fees, product listing fees, etc. then they also skim 3.5% of your sales off the top but offer little to no help on the back end.
Out of the thousands of positive sales I've made I have had a few "hard to deal with buyers." (You can't please everyone 100% of the time.) I chose to refund instead of deal with some of these hard to please customers; and Etsy allowed them to leave completely false reviews saying they never received the product as if they had been scammed but in reality they were refunded in full. When I reported this to Etsy and let them know the situation they did nothing and allowed the few bogus reviews to stay on my profile. Then later despite my still overall 5 star review status they suspended my buying and selling privileges due to those same false reviews. I asked them to please look into the history of the few bad reviews I received and they will see the efforts I put forth to try to work with these customers.
They refused to even look any deeper into the matter and only based their decision solely on these few reviews. I had almost 300 active sales in process when they shut down my account and it's restricted most of my privileges like access to listings, pictures, shipping labels, etc. It makes getting these last orders out extremely difficult not to mention the panic it caused and floods of emails with my customers asking if I was still open and what happened to my online shop? I'm now having to redo my entire website from scratch on another platform which has turned out to be a blessing in disguise. I would strongly urge new sellers to get off of Etsy as soon as possible or not start with them to begin with. Horrible, horrible people running this company.

Etsy opened the doors to mass-produced factory merchandise in 2013 to feed their greed. The plan since this happened is to cater to Chinese Factories and Corporations while squeezing out Independent Shops. The perpetual format and platform changes (before sellers can absorb the last change, POOF, another major change) are insane. Etsy keeps forcing fewer payment options, and consolidating shipping, payment processing to be more and more controlled by Etsy. With all of the manufactured garbage they allow to be sold that are copies, fakes, and things that have never seen a human hand, true Artisans and Crafters have little chance of making a living.
For me, I went from making over $60,000.00 a year to $119.20 in one shop and $8,100.00 in my second shop. It is near impossible to get my items seen when Chinese Shops use every keyword under the sun, even though it has nothing to do with the item they are selling. Shops list thousands of products that are mass produced and cheap. They dominate the Search returns so the little shop that lists a dozen new items will never be seen.
The cheap cost of the Chinese Factory pieces has also driven away business for true hand-made Artisans. When a necklace is $2.50 and it doesn't even tell the Buyer that it is coming from China, then they see a true handmade item for $65.00, you can see how it devalues the quality and time that unique art takes to make. If you are serious about selling your art or crafts... Create your own website so you have control over it. Artisans are closing their shops and leaving in droves so much so that it's called the "Great Etsy Exodus"... Don't open a shop just to give 1/3 of your revenue to support a greedy corporation and foreign manufacturers. Don't do it.

It looked nothing like the picture and I immediately started crying because it was to be my engagement ring. I immediately contacted the seller, GloriousJewelOnline, and advised of my concerns. He proceeded to tell me that I should have said "Hello" before starting the conversation, told me I was wrong about my ring being of power quality than the picture, and told me to "Show it to my friends. They'll tell me that it's high quality". Needless to say, my fiance was so angry when he saw it he almost threw it.
We requested to return the item, the seller refused. We opened a dispute, uploaded pictures, and won. We were told that it was over and we didn't have to do anything further. I start receiving message after message from the seller, telling me to return the ring "As it's only fair". He then continues to message me to the point where I feel overwhelmed even being on that site. I message Etsy, they tell me that I don't have to talk to him again or send anything, but there is no way to block a person. So I stop going on there... And today, for some stupid reason I pulled up their website and saw a new message, dated 3.21.17. The seller had threatened me with having police show up at my home because I will not respond to him.

My first purchase on Etsy was furniture and it was damaged. The box looked like it had been around the world a couple times and the item was packed poorly. Etsy sends email for customer to give a review long before item arrived. Nothing in email says there is a time limit of 60 days from purchase to give a review which only seems to have the purpose of enabling a seller to run out the clock. Seller (I.A.Decor/SunnyBrook Furniture) gets in claim process with shipper and shipper drags feet eventually denying claim which will only run out the clock on any recourse or review. Emails to Etsy only respond with "we can't help you". Shipper denies responsibility, seller denies responsibility while Etsy is missing in action. The only purpose in a website like Etsy is to manage a fair market place. It is now clear that's not what they want. Stay away!

I have been a seller on Etsy for over 3 years with a 5 star rating. All my customers had been wonderful telling me how much they love my product, quality, etc., until this person opened a case against me over a month after receiving their item with all kinds of made up, false accusations about the item. They didn't even have to provide proof of their accusations and the Etsy representative sided with them and I had to give a full refund. The Etsy representative wouldn't even answer my questions about seller protection/shop policies which were totally bypassed and ignored. I am in shock at how horribly I was treated and how easily I was scammed. I will no longer be selling on Etsy as there is NO seller protection.

I've been selling on Etsy for nearly three years and I'm a five star shop. I had a personal conversation with someone concerning religion... nothing nasty or demeaning... the other person was rude and put my particular faith down. Etsy decided to ban me from the Forums indefinitely as if they give a ** about their members in the first place.
This site is rapidly going downhill and treating their sellers like crap with perpetual format changes, forced payment options, and unfair dispute settlements usually favoring the buyer over the seller. And, with all of the manufactured garbage they allow to be sold, true artisans and crafters have little chance of making any real money.
If you are serious about selling your art or crafts... create your own website so you have control over it. Etsy no longer cares about true artisans and crafters anymore... they make more money off of reproduced pieces of junk that are often knockoffs copied from the smaller shops. Folks are closing their shops and leaving in droves so much so that it's called the "Great Etsy Exodus"... Don't open a shop there unless you enjoy giving 1/3 of your revenue to support a messed up management system and foreign manufacturers.

A woman selling a counterfeit product and another one giving inaccurate measurements and refusing to understand how measurements are important. She should have shown, with pictures, where she measured the purse. Sloppy salesmanship!!! Annoying shopping because of each seller has own policies and do not give refunds for immediate returns. I do not recommend Etsy. Pay the full price and buy from a place where you can return the item if you are unhappy.

Unless you open a "Case REVIEW" with ETSY before 60 days after your order, they will not let you open one if your item arrives after that, for example custom furniture that takes sometimes months to make and ship. ALSO if you use PayPal, they won't let you open a case, they tell you to go to Paypal to file your complaint. This company is NOT buyer friendly at all, it does not compare to eBay... BEWARE.

Getting this fixed is proving to be a nightmare. Their customer service is so deeply buried it's practically nonexistent. I never received any email explanation for why I was suspended and am unable to open a new account because they even blocked my freaking IP address.
My receipt on Etsy says unpaid even though my PayPal has paid it and sent me a receipt. They're hardcore and for some reason don't want to take my money which I've been giving plenty of for some time. I'm baffled. Hello, I'm shocked after 8 years of selling on Etsy to find my shops permanently suspend. Etsy didn't listen to my side of the story, I was harassed by a buyer, having the man get my email address, send me disgusting messages & pictures. He was a disgruntled buyer who ended up leaving me a bad review & why? Because I told the sick pervert not to contact me anymore, after I did so, that when it all started. I replied to this man using a few choice words, well thinking I was only defending myself, I got terminated from Etsy!
At this day & age it's ok for a man to harass a woman! Instead of Etsy helping me, they suspended me! Etsy was a problem from the very start from no customers, to opening up the marketplace for all foreign junk. A vintage site? Where is the vintage, it's all retailers. What vintage site removes the antique section? Their new categories are a joke! Who wants to buy a 20 year old toy ball?
As for buyers, if they have a problem, forget it, it's a nightmare. Their main target is someone living a perfect life, a woman who has nothing else to do but, plan a wedding, have a baby, cook, decorate & organize a house with an endless supply of money to spend. What fantasy land do they live in? The employees stink, they know nothing. They also don't know a vintage item from new, the site is such a joke. Real antique collectors & dealers are laughing. Their search system is ridiculous, who has time to look through 250 pages of junk. I hope many people file a class action lawsuit against Etsy & they go out of business.

I use different platforms to sell my items, but the big mistake was to bet on ETSY. They enable people to offer handicrafts personally by them. But this is not so. There are many sellers who do not sell their products, resell foreign goods. There is nothing worse when you correct a given platform with buyers. Although it is against their rules Etsy a blind eye because otherwise you will fail. I think it's time to change its policy and give people legally sellers of foreign goods to sell on their platform because they already do.
The problem is that this company employs super incompetent and spiteful people who do not have a human attitude towards anyone. Employees choose who to sell and who is not. Stupid employees of this company closed profiles without warning, indicating the reason - that the goods are not manufactured by vendors. At the same time there are thousands of such vendors. I hope soon this company to fail because they are despicable and devious people with unsubstantiated claims. Their policy is one, and reality another. Curse them a thousand times and I wish them the most miserable existence. Please if anyone knows where can be made a formal complaint from this company to share it! Please if anyone knows which institution can test this firm also share it. I'm ready to destroy them as they destroyed me.

This is so frustrating that I often stop looking for things and just leave the Etsy site. Also, sellers list things in inaccurate locations, which results in the same problem as above. For example, if you look for "toddler headbands", you also get barrettes, infant hair accessories, and completely unrelated items. ETSY, PLEASE MAKE YOUR SELLERS CLEAN UP THEIR LISTINGS. Well that all changed in November 2016. My account was suspended. They said one of my items were not handmade and I needed to take them off. I agreed even though they were handmade because it was my busy season and I was back in business. The last week of December I was completely shut down because they claimed another item was not handmade when in fact they were!
I emailed their "integrity" department said I can prove that I make all the items in my shop and integrity dept said it didn't matter that they could shut me down as per their terms and conditions. I gave them a list of over 7,000 items I found which were the exact same I was shut down for!! "Integrity Dept" said that I should report them. Well there was one company with 180,000 sales selling the same item I was closed for. I have reported this shop every day for the past 2 months and yet they are still selling. Did the Etsy integrity dept not easily find this shop? How when they had so many sales! Was it because they promote their items and pay for Etsy advertising? Wouldn't that be considered discrimination? They have ignored every question I have had as to why this person can sell and I couldn't.
Not only did I lose my entire business, but I lost all of my feedback, listing fees, pictures and descriptions of some of my items but most importantly I lost my income. Then I get a call from my sister that Etsy shut her shop down because "an account related to this one was shut down for policy violations". She had nothing to do with my account at all!
So fast forward to February 2017. I opened a new shop under a different name selling all different items. I only put up the stuff I had recently finished making and once again I was shut down because I had a shop that was recently shut down so now I lost more money. I have read that they can find you through your IP address, either way I am finished with Etsy. You are taking a gamble. They can shut you down without a valid reason or explanation. That seems cheap, but if you list over 100 items the price adds up. I am charged a base fee of 15% of what I sell automatically at the end of the month. In addition, they collect a 3% processing fee. Altogether I pay 20% of the total cost. In other words, I would have to raise my prices by at least 20% to earn back what I am being charged. Etsy Inc. will deactivate items at their digression and I still had to pay the fees. They are really dirty about that. It seemed to be going so well I took the profit I had made and invested a ton of money into a huge assortment of craft supplies, a Circuit, heat press machine and everything I thought I could possibly need for a successful Etsy business.
Everything seemed to be going smoothly until Christmas season hit. My biggest seller is hand painted ornaments. I had 1 initial complaint due to a lost package (not surprising with how hectic USPS can get during holiday season). I resent the lost packages completely free and gave the buyer a full refund. A few weeks later, I had another issue with a lost package. A case was open & I received an email from Etsy my shop had been permanently suspended due to 2 recent cases. I tracked the 2nd package and it showed as delivered!!
I contacted Etsy regarding this and was basically told, "Too bad." I contacted the buyer and after giving me the runaround finally admitted she had spent too much on Christmas gifts and was just looking for a refund (& essentially free item). I screenshot this and sent to Etsy -- yet again was basically told, "Too bad." They are also holding my funds (which was several thousand dollars) for 6 months. Keep in mind I shipped out approx. 80 packages throughout Dec and received numerous 5 star reviews. None of this was even considered. My shop was closed not due to problems with products, copyright or other issues as I've seen other complaints about. It was closed simply for 1 lost package I corrected (& over compensated for), and 1 package falsely claimed as not delivered by someone trying to scam for free item.
I have tried countless times contacting them with no response. I had way over 100 listings they kept all listing fees and paid advertising. I've invested a ton of time, effort and money in this shop for it to unreasonably be shut down. Of course the more packages you ship, the higher the chance something will be lost (especially during holidays). I did not have all of the descriptions saved on all of these listings. So now will have to start completely over with measurements, etc.
I read another review "don't put all of your eggs in one basket" and that is something I agree with. I never dreamed my Etsy shop would be closed so unexpectedly over such menial things. I had no warning whatsoever. Now I'm out of a lot of shipping, supplies, etc I will not see payment for 6 months. Most importantly out a LOT of time. Not only time making products, but time invested in my fruitless efforts of contacting Etsy and debating over this decision, to no avail. If you are considering selling online -- do not waste your time here!

I placed an order, then was contacted by the seller to say the order did not go through. I tried to explain I had a confirmation but she insisted I must do it again, which I did. As it turns out the original did go through but with another seller for the same item. And then that order took 30 days for me to receive it as it was missent. So now I have 2 identical items and paid for 2, and I only need 1. Etsy will hold no responsibility for the double order, only giving the same not really our responsibility answer as described by others. My advice is not to shop Etsy.

They are very very rude in and not professional. To have a business that you can communicate with is asinine. I have been on eBay for years... when there is a problem you can speak to a human... may have to get through a language barrier... but they are human. Esty seem as though they do not want to make money... shutting people down when they are generating money on items they are truly making. What gives Etsy the right to think one is not making them. I was shut down as well as many other and they made money on me as well. I made the wigs I sell and the jewelry earrings. But you know... their lack of professionalism will eventually catch up with them. And yes I know many of the people selling on Etsy. I know first hand they are resellers. They stopped my income this Xmas as well. But it is ALL good. Etsy days are numbered. I am actually glad to be rid of them. Go to Bonanza.com... good site.

I informed Etsy what this seller had done.
Etsy sent me a email totally ignoring the facts and tells me the item must have been damaged in shipping. Etsy has no intention on taking any action regarding the seller and the fact I was injured. Etsy has a terrible system where they protect the sellers and not the buyers. I lost several $$$ because Etsy would NOT help me get my money back for a damaged item shipped to me. My advice: AVOID ETSY. Find the seller and the item - message the seller directly and buy from their website if you must. I refuse to support such a terrible business.

They were mailed out 11/28, tracking was provided and anticipated delivery was 12/2. 12/9 I contacted the local post office and placed tracking on the item stating it was missing. I also went online and placed tracking with email and text updates. On 12/10 I submitted a missing mail request. I contacted the seller explaining what was going on and her response was "once it's shipped the seller is not responsible." She would not believe that I submitted tracking requests and called the post office stating "tracking is not showing, that there was a call made and asked to track" even though I submitted screenshots of the confirmations to her. Then her response became "it went missing somewhere near you." Missing is missing regardless.
I paid for an item and did not receive it. I requested a refund or a replacement item and her response was "personalized orders are not refundable." I contacted Etsy and they stated that there was nothing they could do because once it is shipped all the seller has to do is provide tracking and they're in the clear. I also submitted a complaint and request for refund through PayPal and have yet to hear back.

I purchased a dress and shirt from a seller at Etsy. She made these items and sent to me. I told her what size and she insisted I give her my measurements. I gave. She made. They were the wrong size. I couldn’t get the dress over my hips to try on… and the shirt was skin tight. I contacted her for fix. She agreed to fix… it cost me almost $100.00 to send back to her, while it only cost her $30.00 to send to me. She wanted me to pay for the return back to me after she fixed. I told her I would give her the $30.00 and let her send rather than I pay outrageous charges to have it picked up... She acknowledged that she received my goods, but never contacted me to send back. I contacted her many times and no response.
After a few months, I filed a complaint with Etsy. They contacted me as if they were we concerned and wanted to help, but each update they gave me was the same as before. It was like a robot was sending the messages. They never responded to anything I said during the resolution process. They finally decided that since I won’t cooperate, they will block me from the website and close my case. Prior to April 2016 of this year, I was making an extremely comfortable living with my Etsy shop, which has been opened since 2011. So comfortable, in fact, that I quit my "day job" completely and my entire household could live off of my Etsy income alone. Unfortunately, as of April 2016, Etsy implemented extreme algorithm changes that essentially "spread the love". In other words, despite good pictures, good SEO, or good tags and titles, you can be pushed down by Etsy in search in order to give other sellers a chance to sell, who may have horrible pictures, horrible tags and titles, etc. This has caused most Etsy shops, including my own, to lose somewhere between 40 to 60 percent of their revenue. Successful sellers are now having to go find outside work because Etsy is artificially manipulating the search algorithm to fit their own agenda.
To say this has been devastating would be an understatement. The sudden loss in revenue caused me to get behind in every bill I have, and I lost my home. Luckily, I was able to find a small place just before I was expelled onto the street with my family. My savings, my nest egg, everything is gone. I had to find outside full time work for the first time in years. It barely pays half of what I was making on Etsy prior to these changes. To make this even worse, Etsy refuses to acknowledges that they have actually changed or done anything to the search algorithm. So while there are hundreds of sellers drowning and losing their livelihoods, Etsy keeps dropping benefits and forcing you to purchase them if you want even a chance of being seen in search. It's so sketchy, so vile, and now I've had to start all over from the ground up on other sites, including my own website.

After opening case with Etsy.com as seller was rude, would not admit any mistake in measurements or do a partial refund. I have been waiting for a decision for soon 1 month. Etsy has been asking for pictures from me non-stop with no decision made. I suppose they just mean to ask me for pictures 10,000 times without making any decision. Would advise not to buy from Etsy.com as it's hard to get any refund if item is not as described.
Seller policies are also return item at own cost even if item is not as described, that's just own loss to buyer then and no risk for seller to just send out any rubbish product. If one uses PayPal to pay maybe there is means of recourse to get money back. I'm not sure just guessing, but if via Etsy.com money is probably gone forever if order goes wrong and seller is dishonest. Ebay is really much better so is Amazon.com.

Much like Etsy's relationship with its buyers, they treat their sellers with just as much neglect. Setting up an account is easy and the site looks very inviting with its sea of "successful" sellers. But don't be fooled by this mask. Etsy has a reputation for ignoring their buyers and neglecting their sellers. When it comes to provably false reviews and policy violations, Etsy is the first to refuse to enforce their own policies. Contacting the support team for any problems you may have is also a challenge. After opening 33 tickets on their support page and sending 21 emails to their support team, eventually (2 weeks later) I get a response from "Kieth" whose response in short was basically, "we don't care, hope you understand." If you are looking for a selling platform I strongly advise looking anywhere else or seriously consider your own website and investing google ads. My shop was shut down like so many other complaints on here. They said "it was due to a copyright issue". Well, what if you know the items in question are in fact not copyright, if you can't actually find it, the person claiming it doesn't respond, and changes their email to anonymous. Etsy doesn't ask you anything. They just take "someone's" word for it. That "someone could be a competitor trying to get rid of you, your ex friend, boyfriend or anyone really. You could stop reading this and go put someone and their shop through the ringer, and the third time they will be closed. That's it. What a horrible way to conduct a business, no integrity at all. Etsy has no idea who they are or what they stand for. Also, I feel as though it's kind of a scam too. They took my digital files. I am a graphic designer who paints one of a kind unique clip art, that can be used to make invitations, and so much more.
They probably just target people and take their stuff. As if I have time to check their listings to see if they are reselling stuff. I seriously doubt they just discard it. Why would they say it's their intellectual property??? It's because they take it. They also take your last sales in which I could care less, because it was that big of a deposit coming my way. What they do is take your money, and claim you still owe them for the listings. As if to say because of this one person that keeps stalking my shop, then I guess that means all of my listings are fraudulent. What a joke this company is. I read some reviews last night below me and one person said, she seen many other stores selling the exact same thing. Well guess what... me too. That's the lack of integrity I am talking about.
If you’re really concerned about a copyright such as "kill this cup not my vibe" and "Drink up Buttercup" but yet you can go to their site and search drink up buttercup motivational water bottle SVG (it's for cutting machines) still dozens of sellers selling it, why is that you might ask? It's because it's not a copyright item. Don't waste your time selling on here. They can just decide when to pull the plug as they say. Luckily I had great teachers that always told me to back up my work and I will be creating my own site. I have a mini following now due to my social media accounts. PayPal is always an option. I am moving on and taking this mishap as a lesson learned to not necessarily rely on these online companies in which you technically don't own your store they do. They even go as far as to block you from posting on the forums while they ban you so that you can't share it with anyone.
I will use one of the computers from somewhere and make an account to let my voice be heard. This is ridiculous. They never asked me for proof on my side nor did they show proof of copyright, in which they should have to because they are in business to help others make one themselves. So they have it all wrong. It is 2016 people. Do things just because they can and Etsy needs to get some integrity and clean up their "copyright issues" in which they are not on top of. They don't really care, go on their site and look up Elsa from Frozen or when Pokemon was huge that should be one of their departments if they really care weeding out that kind of stuff. You wonder why they don't do that it's because they don't care, they have gotten too big to care about the lil' guy. Oh well moving on to my other sites I sell on with better reviews and nowhere near the amount of complaints Etsy has. I hope they get sued.
Hopefully this helps someone if only one, that's good enough for me?? At first I was upset. Now I am grateful that this happened when it did! Most importantly don't ever put all your eggs in one basket. Luckily my Mac saves everything in the trash and I have files that I thought were lost. Shame on you Etsy for your lack of integrity and horrible way on conducting business. Just prepare yourself because one day you may log in and find the message below and then what do you do? Always have a backup plan. I also shared the picture of my banner as proof that I had a shop because once they wipe your shop off the face of the earth your reviews go along with them so make sure you record them for your records too so you have them to show if need be one day. If this post only helps one individual I will be happy with that just one person that I have helped.

This review is regarding the actual Etsy online shop company, not the many sellers that use the vehicle to sell their products. I've only had good experiences with the sellers. The Etsy company is at best DMCA troll lackeys and at worst, scammers of their own sellers and those who use their service to sell products. They issue "warnings" to sellers about their products that other companies and copyright holders claim to "infringe" on their holdings even when said item may be a resell of a used vintage (1970) item (completely legal), and offer no recourse and vague legal path to lift the warning. The seller on Etsy is at the mercy of the copyright holders whose lawyers (many which are keyword bots) are more interested in issuing warnings to abuse DMCA instead of treating each unique case on a case by case basis.
Etsy, instead of protecting their customer (the sellers who use their service and pay their fees) will close down your accounts after these warning with no refund on the listing fees, even then 1: you've complied with the copyright holder and modified the item to lift the complaint, and 2: when the complaint is completely bogus such as on a vintage item that is merely being resold. The problem with Etsy's treatment of their sellers become especially problematic when some of these copyright holdings are completely unpredictable without an army of copyright lawyers researching the item you want to make and sell may "infringe" on the thousands of copyright holdings of thousands of companies.
So if you want to sell fan made items about some popular movie, it becomes not a matter of if you’re be issued a warning, but when – and when your store will rack up enough of these "warnings" that Etsy will close your account and make off with ALL the listing fees you've spent. If you're thinking about using Etsy to sell, DON'T. Use some other service that actually treat you like a real customer instead of a potential fee slave. Use a service that doesn't charge you list fees until you've sold the item.

Etsy seller messed over the wrong chick by selling and taking payment for products she didn't even have! On Sept. 26th I purchased 5 personalized water bottles for my bridesmaids gift packages and the seller advertised that this product would ship within 1-2 weeks. No problem as I didn't need them until November 3rd. 3 weeks after my purchase, while wondering why I hadn't received anything I log onto Etsy to check on the status. Well, what do you know? The seller sent me an email an hour before I logged in to check the status, and she says "sorry for the delay but I haven't received the bottle from the warehouse yet but that they should be ready to be shipped on October 31st." Then she offered a refund if that wasn't going to work. Are you kidding me! She let 3 weeks go by before informing me she didn't have the items I paid for, when she advertised them to be shipped within 1-2 weeks.
I was annoyed but I really needed to bottled and informed her that is really cutting it close for me as I needed them just a few days after she stated she would ship them. Not to mention she still didn't have them so how could she even assure me they'd get shipped then? I reminded her of how she advertised these products and requested that she expedite the shipping on October 31, at no extra cost to me. I kept my reply simple and polite and I have screenshots of all correspondence to prove it. She then replied that she understood my concern but that it was out of her hands, did not address my expedited shipping request, and again asked if I wanted a refund.
Well for one thing, it was in her hands as she had no business advertising, selling, and taking payment for a product that she didn't even have the materials to make. Second, she didn't even care that I was still willing to make this work by offering a solution. She wasted 3 weeks of my time by not notifying me of the situation sooner and blew me off by suggesting I cancel. So, I told her to cancel my order. Then later I get my refund statement and she had the nerve to charge me a fee that she deducted from my refund. The fee wasn't much, but it set me off that I was getting charged for her incompetence!
So I decided to give her a review. Before I wrote the review I decided to sort through her reviews as she had 4.5 stars. I knew there was no way she could be that good with how she jerked me around. As I dug deep into her reviews, I found several 1 star reviews where she replied to them as if it was the consumers fault each time. That did not set right with me because of how she didn't assume responsibility for not fulfilling her side of the obligation with our transaction and blew me off. So when I reviewed her, I posted our convo to prove I wasn't lying or at fault like she made the others look. She got pissed and had Etsy remove my review. Wow, she couldn't deal with being called out. I'm so pissed with Etsy by protecting her from a bad review when she was clearly at fault and where was the protection for the honest consumer who was mislead?
Then she had the nerve to send me a message about having my review deleted due to the content, where only truth was revealed, and stated that she was confused about my review because I didn't give her the opportunity to work this out for me. This poor, delusional woman forgot that I kept a copy of our correspondence which showed I did give her a chance to make it work by offering a reasonable solution for her carelessness. She blew me off and only suggested I cancel.
Yes, they were only water bottles and yes, the fee wasn't much but it's the principle that she simply didn't care about how she ruined my plans. So I escalated my complaint to Etsy and expressed my disappointment in them for protecting her by deleting a truthful review. By the way, I also googled Etsy complaints and I was astonished by how many people had unresolved Etsy complaints. So we'll see how Etsy now handles this from here. So when you hear the phrase "Don't mess with Texas," believe it because this Texas girl is not going to lay down and accept being treated like this.

For the second time in 2 years, Etsy requested photos and explanations of how I make my own products. The first time everything was approved. Now, they are claiming that they can not verify that my products are handmade since I have a shop and I have 4 part time employees, all of which is accepted practices according to their rules. I complied with all of their requests for information and photos with dates in the pictures, and they say it can not be verified that I make or design all of my products. I design all of my products and always have done so. I draw the designs for embroidery and screen printing and all of my appliques. I even make my own patterns... I use no blank products or blank clothing like so many others on Etsy are doing. They just embellish other garments that are made in mass produced factories. I have never done this.
All of my baby garments are made in the US by myself and my employees assist with the sewing and shipping. They still closed the store with no option of speaking with a supervisor or anyone else. I do not appreciate being called a liar when I am doing more handmade work than most of the people on Etsy. This is absolutely appalling. I believe they are just looking for accounts with more sales and Jocelyn has to find stores to close in order to maintain her job. It is really completely unjust and disgusting.

I recently opened my seller's account with Etsy. I have spent countless amount of hours listing my items not to mention paying 0.20 cents a listing which adds up when you have thousands of listing. I woke up today and logged in my account and BOOM! YOUR ACCOUNT HAS BEEN SUSPENDED!!! I did not get an email explaining why either like they said I would. Now, my account is new and I have not sold anything for anyone to complain. I have sent Etsy over 40 emails and they just won't respond to me in any way. BAD COMPANY.

Etsy is a horrible place to have a business. One good thing I will say about them though is they are good at stopping scams. After trying to sell my phone from my Etsy shop there was a transaction that took place, which took them about 4 days to verify. During the four days I was agitated and emailed customer support several times with no reply from them. Some of the emails I sent to customer support stated how frustrated I was with them and that I couldn't believe the lack of customer service they offered since they never responded to me.
Shortly after those emails were sent they removed my listings saying they were investigating my account and then they suspended my shop. During this, I was not notified although the message in my shop stated that they sent me an email stating what was wrong and how the issue could be fixed. I later contacted customer support to advise them I never received the email they claim to have sent... and of course customer support did not respond.
