I ordered William Morris fabric from ONSUKA in UK but it was not what it showed on the page and terrible cutting. She doesn't have a sense at all. I can't use this for anything. I wanted to leave a review but can't do this. I think the seller is controlling this so she did this intentionally. I asked Etsy how I can leave a review but they don't help me at all. I noticed I can see only 5 stars there. Have you seen numbers except for 5 stars? Beware!

My shop was closed by Etsy and they owe me money. There is a positive balance left in my Etsy shop account. All outstanding orders were completed and I have not received any complaints from those buyers. One month after my shop was closed I still did not receive my funds. After contacting Etsy support to inquire about my missing funds, it was stated those funds will be held for 6 months. When I try to reach out to Etsy support I receive an automated answer that has nothing to do with the questions I ask. It is near impossible to get a hold of a live person.
Did you know Etsy illegally emptied thousands of sellers' bank accounts in February of 2019? Yup! That happened, Google search it! And since they've closed my account, I am unable to remove my banking information off their site. I do not trust Etsy and I will never use their selling platform again. I do not recommend opening a shop on Etsy. Do yourself a favor and open your own website instead. At least then you won't be able to get shut down overnight, your bank account won't be hacked and you'll be just as successful without having to give your hard earned money away to an untrustworthy 3rd party.

I don't what is up with my order now and this website is very shady. Highly highly recommend avoiding this website.

3 years ago, I acquired a business which included an Etsy shop. Etsy refused to transfer the business to me, citing a clause in their T&C saying that shops cannot be transferred. Fair enough. So, I've never been able to get control of this shop. Moreover, they banned a completely unrelated shop, I guess because they detected that I was logging in from the same computer as a banned shop. At this point, I have never sold or even listed a single item on Etsy in my life, ever. Now, 3 years later, they are trying to collect $86 that they say I owe them. I said that, since they never transferred control to me, I don't owe that money. They say that my payment details are on that account, and I need to pay them. So they want me to pay $86 for something I have never used. Here's a snippet of their email:
"For this reason, we cannot allow you to assume control of this Etsy account, even if the original account holder approved this transfer. To clarify, as you did not create this account, we cannot allow you to assume responsibility for it going forward. Please also note that, according to Etsy’s Terms of Use, “the person whose billing information is on the account will ultimately be responsible for all activity.” You’re welcome to read our complete Terms of Use here: **. Since your billing information is currently on file on the account, that means you're responsible for any outstanding issues or charges." Note that the wording is that "they cannot allow me to assume responsibility" for the account, (I've never been able to access the account) and yet they want me to pay. How does that even work? This doesn't seem very customer-centric to me. My summary: stay away from these shysters.

I purchased a piece of jewelry the first of Feb for a gift. Several weeks later I tried to find out where the item was because it still had not arrived. A week went by before the merchant provided a bogus tracking. When I complained about the bogus tracking, they provided another tracking that simply stopped tracking short of actually delivering the item weeks ago. With no further information available, I asked the merchant for a refund and they have refused. I asked Etsy to get involved and they simply said an investigation needs to take place. I said that an investigation needed to take place weeks ago when I first alerted them of the failure to deliver. Now, there has been no response. I purchased 5 items through Etsy and had problems with three of the items.
I don't know what kind of due diligence Etsy does (or does not), but whatever it is, it's failing. Based upon my experience, I would avoid this site at all costs because if you have problems, they will not help you resolve it and based on my experience, there will be problems 60% of the time! What kind of business can create a website for other people to sell their stuff, then not perform and the website that represents them (and takes your money) has zero accountability for performance. I plan to meet with my friend the District Attorney next week about the complete lack of accountability to see what we can do to make an example of these clowns for the future.

I have submitted several inquiries as to a missing payment on an order that I fulfilled in good faith and still have not received a response. I didn't pay my account in hopes that I would get a response unsuccessfully. So I paid my bill and removed all of my inventory from the site as I do not need to do business with a business that will not answer inquiries. Very poor communication policies.

I ordered a platform bedframe from an Etsy vendor called Peace Love Wood and I would not recommend working with these guys. I placed the order in mid December and the Etsy site stated the bed frame would ship in 3-5 weeks. It felt like every time I tried to follow up on when the bed would actually ship I kept getting put off with “we’re hoping to ship it next week but can’t guarantee anything.” It was after about three times and into February that I threatened to cancel the order and it wasn’t until then that they actually got in gear with getting the bed finished.
When the bed arrived a piece of the hardware was turned so the rail couldn’t accept one of the legs. A friend tried to turn the piece and I even took it to a hardware store but they couldn’t fix it either. I was told by the vendor that it must have shifted during shipping. There is no way something that tight could have jiggled out of place during shipping. I was also told by the vendor that it was an easy fix and to use the Allen wrench provided to insert it into a tiny hole on the side to make the adjustment. This guidance makes no sense because there is no small hole on the side. Basically it wasn’t their problem.
I contacted the Etsy resolution team and they were worthless and absolutely no help at all. They closed the case without intervening or helping the consumer. Overall my experience working with this vendor and Etsy was such a horrible experience that I will never buy anything from Etsy again. I spent $729.00 on this bed that is defective and am now out that money.

Before you consider buying something from the Etsy's shady sellers or dealing with Etsy, please read the following! I have purchased an antique clock from a seller a week ago. I knew that the clock was in not-working condition as she has specified in the item description provided on Etsy. Therefore, I have no claims regarding the matter. However, when the clock arrived and I took it out from the box, I found inside a piece with visibly smashed metal structure. I was unable to position it on a table because the clock metal frame is warped, thus, unbalanced.
I contacted the seller, informed her that I would like to ship her the item because the condition of the clock is not as she described. She stated that the clock was in perfect condition and it was the fault of the post office employees who ruined the item. She refused to take the clock back, insisted ME to go to the post office and file the insurance claim if I want my money back.
Today morning out of interest I took the clock to the clock repair specialist. He stated that the clock has been damaged before it left the seller’s facility. Also, according to the specialist’s opinion, one shall use a heavy duty hammer to do such a damage to the metal structure of the clock. Therefore, the post office where the seller “sent” me so kindly to, has nothing to do with the damage. The seller sells junk staff and makes her money in deceitful way - by misleading customers, providing false descriptions, and blaming the USPS for negligence and carelessness.
The most interesting is that after reading the Etsy’s Policy, I found that the buyer’s rights are not protected by Etsy. They are concerned only about the sellers – because it is a seller who makes them business. Take look at the ETSY’s policy. Click “Seller” and then “Buyer.” JUST COMPARE. LOL. Once you do, you’ll agree with me that Etsy, in contrary to eBay, attracts scammers and dishonest sellers.
A friend of mine had akin situation two months ago. She ordered an antique lamp from a seller from Belgium who posted beautiful pictures of the lamp and, of course, perfectly composed description of the item. My friend’s mistake was that she did not pay attention to one little thing: the lamp was photographed just from one angle. The lamp arrived broken. The back of the lamp the seller failed to provide the photos of was broken and beyond repairs.
That seller was smarter than mine though. He insured the lamp for the amount of $700.00 (almost three times more than the price he sold the lamp to my friend for), refunded my friend the amount paid immediately and politely asked for the pictures he needed for the insurance claim. Also, he kindly offered her to leave the lamp where she was or throw it away. For the purpose of finding the truth, we took the lamp to the repair shop in Manhattan. The guys just laughed at her and said that to make this type of damage one would need to use a heavy duty metal tool and purposefully damaged the thing.
I must say that I’ve been ordering different things from eBay for years. Nothing like the described above ever took place. 99% of the sellers were honest and reliable. I do not remember when I returned a purchase last time. I have never received an item “damaged by postal office” from any of the eBay sellers. I might not like a piece and return it. But never returned due to the “damage.” It is because the eBay really cares about its reputation, good name, and equally protects the rights of sellers and buyers.
Etsy keeps losing its reputation. Probably because they are too greedy for money and allow anyone sell anything without checking the sellers’ good standing. The Etsy’s policy is “SINK OR SWIM,” because they fail to compete with eBay and Amazon, and the only mean to survive is letting such thing happen. Sink or swim, right?

Trying to get a refund has been the worst experience I have ever had when ordering online. The procedure is so confusing and such a long process that I think Etsy assumes we will all give up on trying. Well, I am not even if it takes 6 months. There are thousands of sellers actively offering mass-produced commercially available products on Etsy whilst claiming they are 'handmade' products. This is fraud! I have reported countless products and sellers to Etsy, and have had long (pointless) email conversations with their Integrity team (who are meant to police what is being sold) but it appears that Etsy simply do not care. This can only be labelled as fraudulent selling, since it is offering products which are not what they claim to be. Etsy need to be fined and shut down until they clean up their marketplace. I will certainly never purchase from Etsy since they cannot be trusted, and advise others to avoid them too.

Many days later I contacted again. Nothing. Of course it said I can leave a review on Feb. 15th. I still have no product and have heard nothing. The charge is on my card.
I tried to submit a review and open a case but navigating their website to do so is a joke. No email...no number. I found one on the internet but it is a recording telling you to use the website. When I try to submit a review I choose one star and try to click submit and nothing. The website doesn't even let me submit a review! I am now going to have to go to the bank and contest the charge. I’ve used Etsy almost a decade, and hadn’t had a problem until now. I ordered an item from overseas. Item was lost in the mail. Etsy refused to even TRY to help locate item or help seller/me find a resolution. Etsy and seller both told me that they hope that I find the item. I paid for an item I never received — seller didn’t help at all, Etsy didn’t help at all. Etsy’s reply: “We don’t hold sellers responsible for items shipped. So long as a seller ships the item, even if buyer never receives the item, seller is in the right. Buyer gets no refund on shipping or items never received. Shipped items don’t have any insurance and buyer alone is responsible for eating costs of items lost in the mail.”

1 star because there isn't a zero star. I ordered a wall map for a special wedding anniversary, I was very clear with text I want on the map - one line and names, that's it. The seller messed up font on names and where he put them and sent a proof. I asked for a change, again with very detailed directions. He failed to follow directions again for a second time. I explained one more time patiently and asked if they can still ship the map on time and offered to pay for expedited shipping, and he snapped at me, cancelled my order and was very rude and unprofessional. He refunded my money, but I lost a week, have no gift for my husband and walked away totally let down by Etsy.
Talking to Etsy customer service was nothing but a waste of time. They couldn't even flag PizelRomance so that others don't have to deal with the pain. I hear a lot of complaining about what is wrong with Etsy. I've been a seller for over 10 years - a reputable seller with thousands of positive feedback addressing the quality of product, responsible shipping and responsive customer service. I have a few things to say in defense of the many wonderful buyers and sellers on Etsy. Then I'll honestly review Etsy itself.
FOR SELLERS: If you are going to sell on any site you had better prepare yourself. I studied business in college and have years of experience but you don't need a degree. There are a myriad of ways to study the market, make a business plan and perfect your skills. Start with your local library if you are into DIY or take a course online. I draw on lots of information to make certain I know what the market is for my product, pursue advertising, fair pricing and to make certain I am 100% transparent in my transactions.
I also apply those same goals as a buyer. While no business is perfect, what you put into it is what you get out of it so I work on my relationship with Etsy. There are shops on Etsy who are sloppy in presentation, don't give enough information, are not informative nor transparent in their listings, post terrible photos and absolutely nothing is done professionally. Etsy makes its process for opening a shop easy to follow but there is so very much more to it than just filling in forms.
If you want an honest review of your shop and have a desire to fulfill its potential, hire someone who can assess your plan before opening and give helpful feedback. It should be your goal to seek education. Before opening my shop I sought advice from an attorney, financial planner and other professionals. I wanted to be the best I could be and they helped me achieve that. Also, if you have never drawn up a business plan, it is a free service through the Small Business Administration. Finally, be prepared to have losses. That is what the Profit and Loss portion of your business taxes is for. You are not going to win every time. If your time is worth more than the loss, it really is not a loss to make the choice to move on. Keep good records so you can back up any claims you make to the IRS.
FOR BUYERS: Every buyer has a responsibility to take the time to read a shop's policies, convey any questions to the seller and thoroughly assess the shop and product. I know there are legitimate buyer concerns and many have had bad experiences, even so many have had positive experiences but why do the complaints seem louder than the positive feedback? Informed buyers need to look for informed sellers. Hold the seller responsible for delivering what they say they will deliver and let them know you are a savvy, serious, informed buyer. If the seller has any interest in their shop, they will respond immediately to fulfill what they promised you. Speak with authority but don't be aggressive; be kind with your words and politely address the problem after having thoroughly thought through your response. Don't speak off-the-cuff - not many people are successful at speaking impulsively.
Treat the seller as you want to be treated, with respect. I have cancelled orders and processed refunds to people who are rude and disrespectful. I politely tell them I can't fulfill their order and then I immediately process a refund. If you are buying from an artist ask LOTS of questions and be certain you listen carefully to their answers. If your gut tells you there is reason to distrust, move on. Most reputable artists will have lots of information to back up their ability to deliver. Ask what their turnaround time is, read all feedback, bring your expectations to their attention. If you are buying collectibles or supplies know your product. Many are the times people have made impulsive choices only to regret them later. Most shops are small and can't offer refunds so be sure to read the refund policy. If it does not suit you, move on.
RE: ETSY: I identified Etsy's shortcomings years ago, some have been eliminated while others remain and I work around them. No business, no buyer, no seller is perfect. Etsy still stands as the most innovative online venue in the U.S. There are plenty of other venues but they are not as successful nor do they have the customer base. So it is in any seller's best interest to learn what they can and cannot expect from Etsy. Their customer service department is not good at responding to individual questions or complaints but to be fair, a lot of those complaints could be alleviated if buyers and sellers would just treat each other as they want to be treated and if they both took their respective aims seriously. That means preparing to be a wise consumer and a responsible seller. It is ridiculous to expect Etsy to field a lot of complaints.
Ask yourself first if there is something you could have done better. Etsy could do a better job of servicing sellers but if you are a seller you'd better be prepared to operate independent of Etsy's involvement. Let's face it, they have a huge investment in growth, innovation and investors. So perhaps they don't focus as much growth and innovation in the area of customer service. Instead, they have succinct directives for finding your way through the mazes within Etsy. Read them, study them, apply them. Then there is the Etsy community. It works when people put their heads together and share information on how to fix things. Etsy reads the community forums and keeps a finger on the pulse of both the buying and selling communities. As I stated before, it is not a perfect system, but it is a workable if you apply yourself.

So I had a shop with ETSY, that I run for 2 years. By no means it was profitable, because they will charge you for a listing, regardless of if it will be sold or not. So you will just keep on paying and paying and paying, and maybe once in a while, maybe someone will buy something. Once a customer bought something from me. Shipping was overseas, so she waited for 3 month to claim that the item was never received. To make my sales, I had to list lowest possible fees, which makes me ship economy.
The buyer lied, opened a request as not received. So guess what? They just go ahead and disable my account. No warnings, no contacting me, nothing. Amazing!!! They were taking my money for 2 years, and when something was actually sold, instead of sending me my money, they disabled my account and run away with my money. So the summary, if you want to use ETSY as a seller, basically, expect to never see your money, because first dishonest (or smart) buyer and you will lose both your product and your money. However, if you are a buyer, by all means, cheat and lie, you will receive the product, then refund. And on top of everything the buyer will be punished.

I purchased an item from their seller CircaTrends on Monday 1/21/19. The seller's listing stated it would ship in one to two days. The seller printed the shipping label on Tuesday 1/22/19. Thursday 1/24/19 the USPS tracking said USPS awaiting item. I emailed the seller two times about when this would ship. The seller never responded. Saturday morning 1/26/19 USPS tracking still said USPS awaiting item. I emailed Etsy customer service since the seller does not respond to emails. I wanted to cancel the order and get a full refund. Etsy without asking me first, refunded me on their own and said I could keep the item. They did not take the money from the seller. I have told Etsy several times I did not want THEIR refund. I wanted the refund from the SELLER and I no longer wanted the item.
I did not refuse the item delivery, because that would allow the seller to sell it again and gain more profit. I left the seller a low rating. The seller responded with a lie and said the item shipped on Tuesday 1/22/19 and also said I was "desperate". USPS tracking clearly shows the item was shipped later on Saturday 1/26/19. Etsy will not allow me to respond to his lie because my rating was less than three stars.
I asked Etsy to take down the seller's response with the lie and libelous comment. They refused. The seller then sent me five harassing emails one calling me a liar through Etsy which is against their policies. Etsy refuses to do anything about that. I have asked Etsy to take back their refund and for the seller to provide a prepaid return shipping label and for the seller to refund my money. They refuse to do that. So it is obvious their "courtesy" refund was to keep me quiet and to keep their seller in good standing. It is obvious Etsy gives preferential treatment to their sellers.

I became a new seller with Etsy recently - and man, what a convoluted experience so far. It's relatively easy to list and set up shop - but if you have a problem or questions about the process...forget it. No one responded to the hold on the payment that I was supposed to receive for an order, and I wanted to get the item off FAST - that's what customers typically want. But only after repeated attempts to contact them, did I get a reply, and still waiting for that payment (which you can set up to occur daily, ideally). I can see why people are going to places like Poshmark or other sites that have appeared. I used to really like Etsy, but now as a seller, I'm not sold. In fact, I may have to close my shop because I simply don't have the time to try and "figure out" all the inner workings of their site/policies or hope to get assistance when something is unclear or goes awry.

Etsy has changed my life for the better. I am now selling on Etsy full time and making more than many of my peers are. It's only a good site for sellers IF you fully read the seller handbook and work hard at running your shop. It isn't a "list and get rich" website - you need to put a lot of work into making your shop appealing for customers. However, Etsy provides buyers that wouldn't otherwise find me on another site or my own. Their search tool, commercials/marketing, and reputation attracts buyers and makes it easy for them to find items like mine! If you have had a bad experience as a seller, I would suggest doing more research into SEO, marketing, photography, and more. I ordered $216 in fabric to be sent to her. They arrived 6 weeks later in a different design. Texted her that that’s not the design agreed upon and she stated that she would correct the mistake “free of charge”. I spent $35 to ship them back to her. Weeks later she sent me tracking and said they were perfect. Never arrived. FedEx lost the package.
Then the nightmare really begins. I’ve invested about $935 and she didn’t insure the package. How a business owner could take a chance if mailing something of that value is beyond comprehension. She’s then rude and defensive and takes absolutely no responsibility for her misjudgment. She even tried blaming me for the carrier she chose and the size box. Of course, when I asked for her to showed me in the conversation where I asked for that, she couldn’t.
I did receive the cost of labor back on my account due to protection through PayPal, but I’m still out $235. I finally got her to agree to reimburse me some on the cost (due to getting $100 back from FedEx) and my return shipping, but when I sent her the request for funds (advised by PayPal and Etsy), she filed harassment with Etsy. I have went back and forth with Etsy and they’ve read all of our conversations. I’ve never been ugly or disrespectful. All they stated was of course I wasn’t and there’s nothing they can do but make notes on her file. This was a lot of time, money, and effort wasted. Sellers only have to prove paying for postage of mailing a product. They do not have to provide that confirmation receipt when the product is actually dropped off and mailed. I even paid for $43 in tracking and signature. Seller did not have to provide proof of mailing my package. Of purchasing tracking and signature. So when my package didn’t show up, and there was no item to track, and when the post office the seller did not have to provide proof of mailing my package. Of purchasing tracking and signature. So when my package didn’t show up, and there was no item to track, and when the post office the seller used, doesn’t even have the tracking number in their system... Etsy will close your escalated case and tell you to take it up with postal services.
Now I know why these sellers can keep having problems with non-delivered products. Because they don’t have to show proof. So good luck if your purchase goes right. But you are out of luck and the money when it doesn’t. Etsy does not stand behind the buyer even when there is an easy way for them to prove that the product was never mailed out. Etsy just washes their hands off it and blocks you and then you can’t even dispute it. You can’t even submit your proof again. I wish I would have read the reviews of the seller I dealt with before I made my purchase. Because that’s when I realize this has been an ongoing problem with the same seller. And she is still able to sell items on Etsy because they are not held accountable for obvious theft. They can take your money, but they are not obligated to mail out your product.

I contacted Etsy concerning a seller who admitted to me their charms were not authentic Pandora beads. When I asked to confirm they were authentic the seller said, "Of course not at that price." There are others on Etsy too that are selling copies of Pandora charms. I brought this to the attention of Etsy three times before they answered me. I was told they would do nothing because the complaint had to come from Pandora itself. If this happened on eBay the seller would be gone.
I contacted Pandora and their legal team got involved and they went after this seller however the seller is still there. Very poor handling of fraudulent items. Then I had a problem with another seller who has now bad mouthed this seller on this site. Etsy allowed attacks against a seller to appear on their site for a year and did nothing until recently. This kind of information should never be allowed to be shown on a sellers store and is unfair attacks. I also find they have a nonexistent shipping policy. I sell on eBay and have three days to ship or I get a bad mark. Many of the sellers on Etsy take a week or more just to get the item shipped and most of the time you cannot track it. eBay cares about their sellers and customers and is a valued site. Esty should be brought down.

5 stars for a job well done in customer service via disputes. After a grueling 6 month investigation Etsy removed a Seller who was falsely attacking my store and items by posting false statements. This egregious Seller believes that the rules of good and fair business behavior do not apply to them. I blocked the Seller on both Etsy and eBay and hoped that they would leave me alone. The Seller was buying my items on eBay and re-selling them on Etsy at triple the price which is the reason I blocked the Seller before selling on Etsy. When I started selling on Etsy the Seller attacked me for being a competitor with many predatory tactics to have me removed but it all backfired on the Seller. Interesting how my items were not fake until I started selling on Etsy. The Seller had their spouse/family and friends cyber bully me because I was competition to Seller's inferior items and yes those people (spouse/family and friends) were removed off Etsy as well.
Had it not been for the honesty of a buyer who reported the Seller's misdeeds to me I would have been blindsided. The Seller went after the buyer who reported the Seller by messaging and calling the buyer vicious names. The Seller was removed for selling fake merchandise and misuse of campaigning misrepresentations. The Seller is as phony as their fake items. Unfortunately, the Seller has now moved onto eBay where they changed their store name the day they were booted off Etsy which looks very suspicious and I see it as a RED flag. If you do buy any Disney charms on eBay from this Seller just give them the soap and water test and if the patina washes away then it is recast/painted/inked and it's FAKE.
The audacity to project their lies onto me was very scary and to accuse Etsy of removing them without warning is ridiculous. Etsy did give fair warning and guidance and I believe they would never just kick anyone off without provocation which the Seller repeatedly did daily for 6 months which was strange. I never attacked the Seller but I defended myself and I believed that blocking them would prevent an ugly situation but the Seller was constantly stalking me which was more tax strange and very creepy. It's so laughable the way the Seller falsely claims that they were the victim. The blocking feature on Etsy needs to be more ironclad to prevent this awful situation from happening ever again. I wonder how many other sellers this Seller had booted off Etsy and eBay because of their lies? Justice was served by Etsy.

Etsy is an online marketplace that carries some unusual and artistic items. Where their business model falls apart is that they either don't disclose or very poorly disclose the location of individual sellers and the associated shipping durations. I ordered an item from a seller on December 6, paying $16 shipping on a $50 item and expecting the item to easily get to me in Houston, TX by the Christmas holiday. The seller's shipping policies say he'll get it shipped within a day or so. Nowhere did he disclose that he is located in Sochi, Russia and this item will easily take 4-6 weeks to ship. It finally arrived on January 18, 2019.
When I asked for a refund on the exorbitant shipping charge the seller maintained he did nothing wrong and his website now does list Russia as the point of origin if you place the item in the shopping cart. I elevated my complaint to Etsy who completely ignored the issue and said it looks like the item has shipped so no issues. For a website based in the U.S. (that's what the .com means) this is pretty sad. eBay and Amazon seem to have no trouble properly disclosing when a buyer is located overseas and to expect shipping delays. Will never shop at Etsy again.

Etsy allowed at least one fake user and fake shop onto its site during the 2018 holiday season, and probably many more. The user in my case was /people/ForeverPopShop (and also a random string of characters that escapes me). The seller/shop was gone only a day or two after Christmas, with my $25 (and probably more from others) in hand. This is criminal negligence. To say that the transaction is between me and the seller is one thing -- but to take a cut of fraudulent transactions without doing anything to prevent scammers from registering on the site is legally questionable. Others who have experienced the same, please comment or review.

I sold a late 1800's real garnet bracelet of museum quality. The buyer messaged me that it was gorgeous, but didn't fit yet never asked for an exchange. The size was clearly listed and this bracelet was described extremely accurately along with like 10 pictures in natural light. My policies state exchanges only, yet to please read and ask all questions before purchase. A month later she opens a case against me. I offered an exchange, but she refused. I refused and stood by my policies. I had corresponded throughout the case. She left me a nasty review and called me vulgar names in her case correspondence to me. She even changed it from not fitting to bent and damaged. I have proof all the way to the post office.
On Christmas day, I got a reminder to respond!!! I had been responding. Next I know this Drew Character steps in from Etsy and states she is to receive a full refund and I should send an address label which I should purchase through Etsy. I pleaded to investigate it further and even tried calling, but the number had disappeared from my account in help through the holidays and I could not get through to anyone. He never contacted me back to hear my side and when I finally got through and talked to someone, they said they would pass it on to Drew and ask him to investigate it further. This didn't happen. I have already been scammed on eBay and is why I tried Etsy.
I was excited to get my first few sales and only put the best of my best on there. Now, I am aware that scammers prey on newbies and although I am not new to selling, I was new to Etsy, therefore a target. I had refunded a scammer on eBay just to have them keep my jewelry. I wasn't going to get ripped off again. I paid my fee to Etsy, closed my PayPal account and my bank account along with my card. Yes, I did this as not to get taken again. This Drew from Etsy had already suspended my account after threatening me if I didn't refund her within so many days.
Next, I get an email that my bill has been paid for my listed items and they have reopened my account. I told them to close it as I do not want to deal with a company that doesn't protect their sellers. They issued her a full refund and she has kept this item as I suspected she would. I cannot close my account because they now say I owe the amount they refunded her.
If anyone is interested in getting a class suit against them, I am game because no way are they getting another dime from me. The company is a scam. I have researched all over the internet and found literally mega stories from both sellers and buyer's getting screwed by this company. I feel someone on the inside is getting a kickback on these scams. Perhaps they should in fact be investigated themselves. I've done a bit of investigating on my own. They may keep my shop open, but I am going to delete what I can of my items from it, so the only next move is to dispute anything sent to collections as they are most definitely fraudulent, at least some of them in charge. They had me totally stressed out all through the holidays. I am an honest hard working person. This is so unfair, but lesson learned. I will build my own platform website and not make others rich off my hard work.

It is important to know what Etsy is before you purchase. Etsy isn't a seller, they are simply a marketplace platform for people to list their items for sale. When you purchase, you are not purchasing from Etsy, you are purchasing from a direct person who made that particular item. I see many reviewers upset that Etsy didn't give them a refund or calling them a scam. Keep in mind, they facilitate the sale, they are NOT the seller. Blame your bad experiences on the particular shop or sellers, not Etsy as a whole.

Etsy is a really great venue for purchasing hand-made or vintage items. I have literally made thousands of purchases on Etsy. However, you have to be smart about it. Do NOT rely on Etsy's case system when things go wrong. Always pay via PayPal or use a credit card (preferably both). Etsy may tell you they can't help if an item is lost in the mail, but PayPal will require the seller to provide proof of delivery (not proof of shipping, which is useless). I actually won't buy from shops that do not accept PayPal, as I consider credit card chargebacks a last resort. Using PayPal funded by a credit card gives you two layers of protection against items not received or items not as described. If you bear this in mind, Etsy is a safe venue to buy from and you can find really great, unique and creative items there.

I bought and paid for with my credit card a ring from this site on September 30th 2018 and it is November 8 2018 I still haven't received it. I was told by the jeweller it would take a little over a month to get it. It's been two and a half. I disputed it through Etsy following their procedures going by what they have written on their site and they ask them for proof of shipment. The jeweller presented a receipt only with my first name and a CA and in Etsy terms of use it says, "You need an address to prove it's being shipped to the location," which I copied and pasted in a comment but Etsy thought that was good enough and closed my case. With the comment sometimes things get lost in the mail or is delayed. If it's lost it's the seller's responsibility to make a vendor claim against the shipping company and they have to refund the buyer.
I then called my credit card company up and started a dispute with them against Etsy. The credit card company would know the legal procedures to take. Etsy holds the buyers totally responsible for everything and say they have no responsibility even though they are the third party involved. Which makes them an accessory to the fraud.
Bad business. I will never use their site again and like what I'm doing now I'll continue to do and let people know they suck. "BEWARE OF FRAUD". Help others and report it. Take action. I would hope law enforcement would charge Etsy with false advertisement. My next step is to inform the C.R.T.C. They govern the telecommunications in Canada. I'm just glad they didn't take me for a lot of money $75. I feel sorry for those who lost more hence why I'm writing this.
Credit card companies should stop payments to any businesses suspected of fraud and protected their customers. If they would have informed me that this company was doing this I wouldn't of bought anything through them. This is why we need to inform the credit card companies. I have read a lot on here that had the same problems and if I would have known I wouldn't of do business with them. Then another 3% plus $0.25 to process your payment. Customer side. I purchased an item. 3 days later I went to review the product again and the seller had disappeared from the website. I sent and inquire to the seller and got the Etsy customer service team. They don’t even know how their own system works. This was their response when I followed the on screen directions of asking the seller a question: Occasionally, a shop's visibility might be affected by clerical, personal reasons, or holidays. Rest assured that they can still fulfill orders, participate in cases, and communicate with buyers.
If you haven't already done so, we first suggest contacting the seller directly via Conversations, our marketplace's messaging system. To send a conversation to your seller, visit You > Purchases and reviews and click "Contact The Shop" on the right side of the transaction information. Keep in mind this is how I got to the customer care team in the first place. Then they told me I had to wait till the ship date before I can file a claim. Yet this is the message I get when I click on the member. “Uh oh! Sorry, the member you are looking for does not exist.” They don’t care about their users. Stay away. There is no buyer protection. Too bad the seller spoiled this for shopping there. This star supposedly has a 5-star rating - really? If this person is having health or other issues, maybe they should close their shop. Out of regard for this seller, I'm not going to indicate the Etsy store -- hopefully I'll be refunded my money.

I purchased two animal tags from StampedJust4You. She said she shipped it on October 15 but I never received it. When I contacted her she just told me it was my problem and she was defensive and argumentative. Etsy itself told me that since she has a tracking number for the item it is my problem. They consider it delivered and the responsibility of the consumer as soon as a tracking number is generated. When I contacted USPS they told me a label was created for it but it was never shipped. So I am screwed out of my money, the seller doesn't care and neither does Etsy. I feel bad for any quality craftsmen that use Etsy but I will never buy from them again. What a scam they are running.

I bought a pair of Mr. and Mrs. couple pajamas for my son and his fiancé for Christmas. My son is in the military and is rarely home for the holidays so this is going to be a special Christmas. My son picked these pajamas out as the ones he wanted for Christmas. I was a little skeptical about buying as they have a no return policy. Against my better judgment, I ordered the pajamas. The medium sized pajamas were clearly a large but because my son wanted them I ordered another set of $80.00 pajamas in a smaller size.
Today a review site popped up on my phone for Etsy. I gave them a 2 star review and noted my frustration at not being able to return the first set. They were not personalized in any way and there is no reason they shouldn’t be able to be returned. But I was willing to let it go and just buy the second set. Well when they read my review they canceled my second order saying they were unable to fulfill my order! They even wrote happy Sunday :)) in the email they sent canceling my order. Few minutes later I received a message saying my shipping would cost $180, because it was heavy and shipped to New York state. The purchase price for furniture was $145. I asked to honor free shipping. The seller said they couldn't due to the shipping information was provided by Etsy. They offered to cancel my purchase and refund the money, both buyer and seller agreed to cancel. Well, Etsy charged me a fee and deducted from my refund. HORRIBLE WEBSITE! STAY AWAY!!!!

It was a bit depressing to read all 1 star reviews and I wonder if anyone writes positive reviews here... I am 5 star Etsy seller and buyer also on occasions when something really unusual catches my eye. ** Etsy store which I represent isn't the old one and I am working very hard to get more customers (I can guarantee your 100% satisfaction) and take pride of what I make and sell as it's a solid ground to my mission to revival of Victorian afternoon tea ceremony tradition and it's centerpiece - tiered bone china cake stand. Etsy in this case is a selling platform where my voice could be heard and what I make could be seen and bought around the Globe. That is a very positive point and important one as well.
When so many people had bad experiences with Etsy I would think that many of you actually had bad experiences with so many bad sellers. But trust me there are so many creative, talented and really dedicated to their art and craft people among Etsy sellers who will melt your heart with unusual things they make and rely on YOU - their customers to support their craft by buying it and allow them to create even better things. You, possibly, were not lucky enough yet to come across them.
As on any selling site, you have to look at seller's previous reviews which reflects their selling experience and their personal customer service as well as customer's satisfaction. I can't comment on official Etsy responses and dealing with every individual cases (and not going to try that) but seller is the person who has to be contacted first and trust me we do care about our shops brand and make everything possible to solve the problems which occur between us and our customers. If third party is involved into the caused problems, every Etsy shop has POLICIES about third party involvement. AS a CUSTOMER you have to just read them and understand what sellers base their actions on.
I hope this review will bring a bit of brightness among gloomy negative reviews. Pursue your rights as a customer (that is paramount) but don't make your final opinion and leave it negative one based on one bad shopping experience with one not very professional seller. You've tried the rest... Now try the best. ** Etsy store will give you warm homely welcome as it says on a tin. Put your feet back and enjoy nice cup of tea and let me do the work.

I do not even know where to begin, but Etsy is absolutely horrible to its sellers. I am kicking myself for wasting the last year of my life working hard on my shop and making a full-time income, because now all of my eggs are in Etsy's basket. If you are considering selling for them: DON'T. Not only do their fees keep going up and up, they are starting to get more controlling. You used to be able to pay your bill whenever you wanted, now they take it out of your pay automatically.
Have an outstanding balance? No problem, they'll just suspend your entire shop. Want to pay that balance? Well, you can't, because they only let you pay on the first of the month. Order lost in the mail? Great, send a replacement, that's what the customer wants. Etsy: nope, we're going to withdraw a bunch of money from your account even though you already sent them a replacement. You can work it out with them to get the money back, good luck. Etsy is terrible and their staff does not care about you at all.

I placed an order to have my grandchildren's faces put on $20 bills for Christmas from Dollar Artist with Etsy. When I placed the order I must’ve clicked the wrong box because I received an email from them saying that I would be receiving it in digital form and I would have to print it out myself. I contacted the vendor and asked if they could change it so I could have the dollar bills mailed to me directly because I don’t have a two-sided printer. I immediately received an email saying that they canceled my order, and told me I had wasted their time and asked me why did I checked the wrong box?
I went on Etsy‘s website to try to contact their customer service department and it took forever to figure out how to send them an email. I don’t know if I’ll ever hear back from them. But now that I see all of these negative reviews about it see I really wish I had looked here first, I never would’ve ordered anything from them in the first place. I went back to the Etsy website to read the reviews on this Dollar Artist person and every review looked too good to be true, makes me wonder if they are fudged.

Recently, I tried to purchase jewelry from "AntiquesinPA." Red flags should have gone up when, after contacting the seller about purchasing, she raised the price $10. I paid and expected to receive my item. When after nearly a week an half of the item being in a "Not Shipped" status, I tried contacting the seller who simply didn't respond.
What makes this worse is that Etsy forces the buyer to wait 10 days or so before requesting a refund. This should be automatic if a buyer's item hasn't shipped after 3 days. Worse, after opening a "case" with Etsy, it was stated that I would have to wait another 10 days, if not refunded by the seller. If the seller refused to refund my money (now going on a month), then I could escalate this to the Dispute & Resolution Dept.
This is NOT how good business is handled. Etsy HAS a responsibility to monitor their sellers and issue refunds on behalf of deadbeat sellers to THEIR consumers who are using THEIR platform to do business. I ended up having to go through my own bank to get a refund since it became clear that Etsy was only going to drag their feet with nothing ever getting accomplished. From now on, I will be using Amazon for online purchases as I know that this platform truly monitors their seller's behaviors and enforce strict penalties on deadbeat sellers. I ALWAYS get my product from Amazon and have never had these kinds of ridiculous issues as a buyer.

I should have looked up reviews on Esty before ordering from them for the first time. If I had, I NEVER would have ordered from them based on consumer complaints - of which there are MANY!! I emailed Etsy - the ONLY way to contact them explaining in great detail the problems I was having with an order I had JUST placed. I received an email from Etsy/Ulysses - quite long winded - but it did NOT address the problem. Instead, for all intents and purposes, I was redirected to contact the "seller" directly. It's hard to believe Etsy/Ulysses even read my complaint/inquiry since they referred to things in their response that had nothing to do with what I was asking for. Canned response? Most likely.
In today's world, with shopping literally at our fingertips, there's much competition in the marketplace. Etsy happens to ranks high in SEO, so their site popped up - SKIP them and continue down the Google page and find another online retailer who will actually SUPPORT customers. We - CUSTOMERS - are everything to retailers. Doesn't seem to mean Etsy gives a hoot about their customers - no phone number, no chat box - just canned emails. Never again will I order from them. And I hope people are reading this review before ordering ANYTHING from Etsy. You will find what you're looking for on another site, who will value you as a customer and employ decent Customer Service!!

I’ve been buying on Etsy.com since 2012. There are many wonderful items, and professional sellers who understand the world of E-commerce. I recently have purchased many tools and supplies in “Jewelry & findings” where I have encountered the worst customer service and online etiquette. Normally it is customary to ship within three days of payment. I have had packages sent 10 days or longer, had to ask when are you shipping my item. The worst communication, from sellers. They will print the shipping label and not ship.
I understand a curve on custom made items, however the Seller should be in communication instead of making customers wait. In this category I only shop on Etsy I when I cannot find it on eBay or Amazon. I started selling online in 1997, had a successful 10 year run. I know what is expected of a good Seller. These clearly were dollar store quality and not “HANDMADE”, which is what ETSY is SUPPOSED to be all about! I immediately notified this seller of my dissatisfaction and was told that they get the mugs from China, and then they decorate them. That’s NOT a “HANDMADE” mug in my book! They had no explanation for how it was packaged and shipped already broken. They simply ignored my question about this in their response. They told me they would ship another mug as replacement.
I responded that I would hope it would be quick shipped as I was now only a few days away from the event I had purchased these mugs for. They now said that I clearly couldn’t be made happy (why is that?) so they would refund my money instead. I told them if they mailed me a return label, I would ship back the mugs, as I was NOT looking for a freebie! They ignored that as well. I then proceeded to leave them my one star feedback saying ONLY THE TRUTH, which is that they present their product as “HANDMADE”, which it is NOT, and I had been shipped a defective mug, which was packaged by them like this. I contacted Etsy and explained the situation and had the tracking number. Etsy told me that because it was international they couldn’t do anything about it! What?! Then why do they have international sellers if they can’t assist in international seller fraud? They said they understand this is an issue with Etsy and they’ll working on it, but in the meantime they can’t do anything about it. So basically the buyers are unaware that they are at the mercy of unscrupulous international sellers on Etsy. And Etsy just says, tough luck.

Here's a newsflash Etsy, we are tired of you making a living off of our hard work and do not have time to spy on our neighbors! I've had 2 listings removed because the first one gave a history of Scrimshaw and now a second Scrimshaw listing because I listed it as bone Scrimshaw and forgot to add the word ox in front of bone!?
So now a lack of one word and even mentioning Scrimshaw history justifies Etsy to not only remove my listings but to then have the audacity to threaten me and say that they will close my shop for an offense I NEVER COMMITTED!?? This is why we good sellers are fleeing Etsy and I have already reopened my shop on eBay. As a seller the only way to get a phone number is to say you want to close your account. Then you will receive a call back from someone who cannot answer any of your questions but promises you will receive an email from "someone" who can. But never does.

I purchased a ring, back in August, that was advertised and described as "genuine moissanite" & "14k gold". I had plenty of communication with the seller before purchase, asked plenty of questions, and to be honest, I almost did not buy from him because he kept bugging me asking "when you buy ring now ok I make you very good ring you buy now". I understood that he was in India and there was a bit of a language barrier. At the time he only had a few sales, and nothing stood out as far as him being a dishonest seller. So, I purchased the ring. I had reservations, but, being that I had been buying on Etsy for nearly ten years, and even briefly had a shop where I sold a few antiques and vintage pieces, I believed that Etsy was reputable, and actually backed their buyers as eBay does... WRONG!!!
I received the ring after two weeks - not bad coming from India - and before I had even opened the cheap ring box completely, knew I had been swindled out of $300.00. The ring was of 'gumball machine' quality, being bright brassy gold, nothing at all CLOSE to looking like all of my other 14k (and even 10k gold)... not even close. The stone was supposed to be genuine moissanite. I immediately contacted seller, and told him that I would return the ring to him and that I would like to have my money refunded. I was immediately met with "ring is not fake, I not refund you money. You go any jeweler. They tell you ring not fake" - so I did just that, taking the ring to two separate jewelers who confirmed both the stone and the gold were fake, using professional equipment.
I then attempted to open a "item not as described" case, but had to get a "call back" from Etsy. The lady I spoke to was very polite and assured me that they would rectify the problem - only I had to wait 7 days from when the item was scheduled to arrive before I could open a case or even leave feedback. She told me to contact PayPal in the meantime, just to make sure they are aware of what was going on. So I did. I took pics, opened the case, and waited for a response from Etsy and the seller. He then contacted me and said to return the ring and he would refund me.
Well, it took three attempts to get the correct and full name and shipping address. Which took about three to five days. I finally got the information so I could complete the customs forms, sent it expedited (5-7 day delivery), and he did confirm that he had received it (it arrived in 6 days), and told me that he would refund me $270.00 on Tuesday - this was on Thursday - first of all, I paid $280.00 for the ring, plus $20.00 shipping, and another $30.00 to send it back to India. Why if he had received it, do I have to wait almost another week for him to refund me?
So, I again contacted Etsy. The lady on the phone this time (this was the third woman I had spoken to over the course of the two month long ordeal), told me that someone from some sort of other department would contact me by email and that she could not issue refunds. I checked my email for days without a single word from Etsy. Then on day three with absolutely no email or communication from them, I managed to find an entire series of messages on my "open case" page, that I had NO IDEA EVEN EXISTED!!! My heart sank when I saw that they had closed my case, completely unbeknownst to me!! There was also a message from "Montgomery from Etsy" stating that since I used PayPal to purchase, that they could not refund me. Great, I'm out $330.00 with nothing to show, and my of course our vow renewal ceremony had passed and I had no ring, so that was ruined. I contacted PayPal again, and had my refund within and hour!!
I thank God that I DID pay through PayPal, who had my back and got my money back!! In over ten years buying on eBay, I have had only one item not show up (from China), and I contacted eBay, and had my refund within a few hours. Needless to say, I will stick with eBay, who actually backs their buyers, and where you can actually talk to a LIVE HUMAN- they have excellent customer service, and you are protected in the event that an item is grossly misrepresented, or item not received. I had made plenty of purchases on Etsy over the past 7 years, but thankfully, in the last three or four years, I rarely ever bought anything on there as I mainly shop on eBay.
I will never purchase on Etsy again, needless to say, and have closed my shop and my entire account altogether, and I informed them of this fact and also that I will let everyone I know, about the nightmare I experienced on Etsy. I left the page up so that I could show my husband the correspondence in my "open case" page today, and, lo and behold, they had deleted all the messages!!! Yes, believe the hundreds and hundreds of people who say that they delete messages/negative reviews/comments in forums/ etc, because it is absolutely true - I saw it first hand.
If you do take the risk and actually buy on this vile platform, PLEASE make sure that you purchase through PayPal, print out any correspondence (or do a screenshot from your phone), and be sure to file a complaint with the attorney general in both your state, and also the attorney general New York, where they are located. Do not let them steal your hard earned money!! Good luck to all sellers and buyers who have had/are having problems with this despicable company!!

If you buy anything, then know that Etsy has a "free of all our sins" policy. They do not have your back when your item is never shipped to you. They are crooked and will make both parties suffer while they reap the whatever % they get from every purchase. Customer service can't help either and they tell you that everything is out of their hands. A fast food delivery service has better customer service in ensuring you get what you pay for.

Sellers are losing more and more options about their shop. Everything is under the control of Etsy, and in the benefit of Etsy. We used to be able to choose our shop policies. Etsy has changed our days we require returns or refunds, but that is not my primary complaint. Sellers bend over backwards, when they believe in the philosophy that the customer is always right. We try our best to please everyone regardless. Returns and refunds are no longer considered full refunds unless you include shipping. It is now considered a partial refund, unless you include shipping costs, often times shipping upgrades of priority a buyer chose at check out.
Now, once you return something, you are wide open, vulnerable to abuse by sellers because you cannot close a transaction that was returned. Most of us sellers have policies that exclude shipping in returns and refunds because we would have major losses if we offered that to customers who receive and don't like and want to return an item. Etsy won't refund us our shipping we pay twice on until they are refunded first by USPS, so why do we have to be vulnerable to manipulation and intimidation, because our case is now left open, including ratings, if we do not agree to give shipping back on an item a buyer chooses to return.
This was never the case in the many years I was with Etsy, and I doubt Etsy would leave themselves so open for such loss with shipping costs, in an online consumer driven shop where customers see and choose to keep or return? This leaves us sellers wide open to bad ratings that are now an arduous ordeal of emails and Etsy misunderstandings, and "sorry." We sellers no longer have the ability to protect ourselves from those who would intimidate, and abuse our shop policies because we cannot enforce them now that we cannot close out our cases as "fully refunded" unless their shipping is also included. This is new, and with every change that only benefits Etsy, to get more buyers, we see they do not care about their sellers and how the changes affect them.
Who is paying Etsy's billion dollar business? Sellers, who have absolutely no choice nor control over their shops, and are now subject to the whims and manipulations of sellers who can buy, use, and return items, if we do not refund 100% of shipping. Outrageous unethical business practices, as we see Etsy becoming too big and more concerned about making more and more on the backs of little mom and pop shops. I am so close to being done with this Etsy abuse, which only cares about their own billions, and not us sellers, who have lost even the ability to protect ourselves from being manipulated by buyers, unless we do exactly what the buyer wants, even if they abuse your shop policies.
Shop policies have no meaning anymore, anyone can bad rate you unless you give back the shipping, which I am sure Etsy would not do if they were a shop. Totally disgusted with Etsy, sellers should take several days a month together and shut down their sites to show Etsy that we will not line their pockets with our $100 a month in monthly charges to have no choice over our own shops. Unethical business practices Etsy needs to rethink. Give us our choices back to use PayPal if we choose, our days of return time in our policies, our "close cancelled orders" regardless if shipping is refunded or not, as it used to be for many years. What gave them the idea to put sellers at the mercy of buyers? I have no clue.

I found some fabric that I wanted to purchase on Etsy. The seller Fabric Universe had one price for the swatch which was $1.00, there was no price for yardage. So... I purchased 20 yards. The seller contacted me and told me that was the swatch price ($1.00) and the price is for the fabric per yard is $5.99. I told the seller that $5.99 was not listed and that I should get the fabric for a $1.00 a yard. The owner did offer me a refund. I told the owner I wanted the fabric. So... I contacted Etsy and put a dispute in about this situation.
In the dispute I told the them that there was only one price for the fabric. I was offered a refund by the owner BUT... I WANT THE FABRIC... AND THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT!!! Etsy made their decision then sided with the seller. To be honest I should have got the fabric... it was the seller's fault that they misrepresented the price on the fabric. I did get my refund. I will not be buying anything from Etsy in the near future. They need to understand that the customer is always right. No wonder they have low customer ratings... shame on them.

I am an Etsy seller. Being a part of the Etsy family by nature defines us as a small business. It is a broker site for HANDMADE sellers. I had a customer receive a broken cord with one of our lamps. She had ordered before, so as an apology and a gift, I gave her an upgraded dimmer cord to replace the broken one (which was really a USPS damage issue, nonetheless I really do CUSTOMER CARE). The customer complained that it was a "dirty electricity" cord and wanted me to exchange it for a standard one. We use UL Listed cords that have Cal Prop 68 labels when necessary, and this is simply not a dirty electrical part. PERIOD. So I asked her to pay to ship the cord back. No response. She opened a claim on all her orders, even past ones that she had left 5 star reviews on and went back in and changed the reviews to one star.
We settled and I agreed to allow her to just return the last order for a full refund and even to refund her return shipping! After all was completed, the cases were closed BY THE CUSTOMER, Etsy suspended my account, leaving me unable to ship existing orders of innocent customers! They want me to refund the customer, but I have not only fully refunded her, there is no way to refund MORE than what she paid! When I asked Etsy how to do this, they said to write her a check or send it via PayPal. How would THAT be tracked??? Apparently they mistakenly thought I was to refund the other orders as well, even though the customer has said that she doesn't want that and closed the cases. I have been locked out of my seller account and there is nothing I can do to rectify it. No way to reach the admin for the case - he cannot receive inbound calls or emails. Huh???
I was raised with a "the customer is always right" mentality, but also not to be taken advantage. Customers can open cases WITHOUT input from the sellers. Customer Care folks have NEVER physically had to face a seller or buyer in their lives. The human element is non-existent for a broker site that represents ARTISTS AND HANDMADE SELLERS! HOW CAN THIS POSSIBLY WORK? Etsy is riddled with sellers who lie and do not make their items. You can even see the exact same photos of items across multiple shops representing items that are clearly made in China. We ourselves have over 75 shops selling items that we handmake and it is clear that they have not made a paper airplane let alone some of the tool and time intensive items that we do. Etsy is now a publicly traded company and have lost all the goodness that made them what they WERE.

On 11/13/2017 I first Contacted 'Geek Chimp Designs' from Etsy to update my website menu as I wanted it to be 'fancy and interactive'. We agreed on a price of $125 for this task. After a couple weeks, I was told to get my menu to function as I would like I would need to rebuild my website as the current coding and modules were not compatible. They claimed my previous developer didn't have the coding done correctly so they could fix that along with a new design for me. So while I did get a menu for my website, it was ultimately boring, plain and did not do what was originally agreed due, which I was told was due to my site and such which is why I ultimately agreed for the site update.
On 11/26/2017 I hired 'Geek Chimp Designs' from Etsy to redesign my website for $1,100 with a due date of it being completed within 4 weeks. This price included not only a new site, but the menu as functioning as originally agreed when I hired them. I accepted the offer for my site to be redone, have the coding fixed & have my menu working as discussed. It's nearly a year later & I have nothing to show for it except the (incomplete) menu design.
I have over 500 messages on Etsy with this seller in regards to asking for updates & proof of progress, such as screenshots, that were never provided. (Oh wait, I had a template I said I liked - but was never applied using my site content, just a basic template which I later discovered was not even custom made for me, but found elsewhere on the internet and I was provided a screenshot of how my new menu was looking in the design... The design I never ultimately saw). There was always an excuse. I was consistently told that I would see something by X date or it would be completed by X date. The date would come & nothing would be done & another date was pushed back. I tried to continue working with them, expressed my frustration multiple times to no avail.
Finally, I reached out to Etsy to help resolve this issue as this was the platform I hired the seller on & they claimed too much time had passed and they would not help me despite the fact this was an on-going project that was not delivered. They said to keep working with the seller (I have a copy of the email). The fact that this was on their platform and they would not even investigate to see that this was an ongoing project and not a "one time purchase and done" transaction I certainly expected a little more support as a buyer. Of course, I got no help. I continued to try & work with the seller hoping for some results. BUYERS BEWARE! ETSY WILL NOT HELP YOU WHEN YOU ARE BEING SCAMMED!

Buyer beware; we spent $300 for bangles that costs $3 to make and they don't even fit.
She wants us to pay additional monies to both ship the wrong order back to order and to pay for the new order to come. Outright ridiculous. Don't waste your time shopping on Etsy because trying to get in contact with someone to complain is not going to happen. I placed an order on March 15 from a UK vendor that was projected to be shipped on March 29th. I contacted the vendor in June and still received no response. Etsy now has no option to resolve the issue because their website says too much time has elapsed as if they have zero accountability to the customers after 100 days even though they encourage customers to resolve these issues with the vendor. No company that allows customers to be billed before an item ships is not liable or responsible for ensuring delivery or reconciliation if a vendor does not hold up their end of the deal. This is theft and Etsy is enabling it.

Hi there! I've run my Etsy shop since October 31st, 2014. I have almost 15k sales and a 5-star rating. I understand that some of you have had bad experiences, and I am SO VERY SORRY for that, However most of the sellers on Etsy work incredibly hard to provide the BEST experience possible for buyers. Yes, there are scam artists on any site. If you have issues, you can file a claim with Etsy. If Etsy cannot help you, you can file a credit card chargeback. Paying with PayPal can also add an extra layer of protection. Sometimes credit card companies deny a chargeback, due to not understanding the full situation. Persistence in asking to speak to a manager through the credit card company can certainly help, as well as accounting out an issue and sending it via email and speaking to someone on the phone, after you submit a chargeback.
Just as much as there are scam sellers, shops also encounter scam buyers. So it's honestly a two-way street. (That's not to say that sellers should ever accuse buyers of scamming or treat them straight away as scammers.) It sucks when it happens on either side, especially because we'd like to believe Etsy as a whole, is about connecting people and celebrating handmade items.
I adore the platform and have only ever had the best buying and selling experiences. My customers are incredibly and normally when there is an issue with an order, I'm able to resolve it right away, without anyone getting upset. We just need to remember that there are people behind each computer and regardless of the situation, as an Etsy seller, it's our job and responsibility to help our customers, no matter the situation.
I hope this helps explain how Etsy works and how to help facilitate the best experience possible. IN terms of scam shops, a lot of shops selling Disney/Marvel and other copyrighted material, tend to be shops that either get shut down or scam customers. They are selling items with artwork that does not belong to them. If you try to avoid shops like that, it should also help ensure you won't be scammed.
As far as faking reviews or sales, it isn't very possible or something that would actually be cost effective. Etsy takes money from every sale, and they monitor sales/reviews to ensure people are not purchasing items from the same location. If a shop has hundreds/thousands of sales, there is a very high chance that those are legitimate sales and reviews. <3 <3 I hope this helps! <3 <3

I have read a lot of really bad reviews about Etsy, but just wanted to say, each Etsy shop is separate from the next. Read each individual shop's reviews carefully to see how each individual runs their shop. Sometimes a shop will have items that fall apart even if they're pricey, other times items will be inexpensive but nice quality. Sometimes shops will not refund money for problems, other times shops are happy to refund money and go above and beyond. Just go to the shop you're thinking about purchasing from and look over all of their reviews so you know which ones you should and shouldn't shop from.

I bought a bracelet that was supposed to be 10 carat gold. When I received it, it appeared to be fake, based on its deep yellow color. Seller continues to claim not receiving it after three weeks have passed. Unfortunately shipping services at my grocery store didn't provide me with a tracking number. I escalated the situation to Etsy, who were of little if any help. I don't have the bracelet and I am out $57 for a bracelet that looked cheap enough to have gotten as a prize from a vending machine.
Based on this experience, I have to question the type of sellers that are on Etsy. This seller using broken English claimed in her responses to have a large physical store, but when I searched for Blusom on Google, there was no indication whatsoever that Blusom has any physical store. Their website is powered by Etsy and nearly all pronouns used in the site are "I," not "we." My best assumption is it's one person purporting to be a large business. Yes, many sellers on Etsy likely are individuals, not truly companies. But if that's the case, don't claim to be a real store when you're really just one person.

DO NOT be fooled by the shops on here that have thousands of sales and 5 star reviews, the scam artists on that site know how to create very convincing fake profiles and fake orders and fake reviews. I have been scammed twice now in the past few months and have sorely learned my lesson about this careless site. Etsy DOES not care about you or your money. When you get scammed they tell the seller to just take a photo of a package with your name on it and they will close the case??!! WHAT!!! How absurd.
I got scammed by two shops offering custom made clothing and alterations. They kept my money and I am still have a claim through PayPal. The con artist on here will tell you it takes weeks to get your order done, then they pretend it is lost in the mail and that they lost the tracking information, they also close their shops temporarily and put notes out there that they are "moving" shop or "someone is sick". PLEASE do NOT give this site your hard earned money, they allow ANYONE on there and the con artists are VERY convincing.

I had set up my Etsy shop no problem and all was working fine with a number of sales each month. To boost sales I was offered a one month trial of online Google ads. I could set my daily spend limit, but absolutely it was just for one month. So I gave it a go. At the end of the month, although I didn't get any extra sales, I paid the bill including the additional cost of the Google ads.
At the end of the following month, my bill included more Google ads. I contacted Etsy to complain but had no response. Yes you guessed it, the following month even more Google ads costs. I complained again saying this was outside what had been agreed, but got no response. All Etsy did was suspend my shop as I hadn't paid their fraudulent invoices. It is fraud and it is criminal. Do not sell on Etsy as they cannot be trusted. So I am setting up my own website to sell my goods and will organize my own Google ads. Beware, Etsy are nothing but con merchants and never respond to complaints or queries.

On May 7th 2018 I purchased two T-shirts from Etsy. Two weeks goes by and no shipment notification. So I emailed Etsy. Two days later (May 22nd) a woman name Liliana replied back saying that the batch they received wasn't all that great. That's why they didn't ship them out. Liliana said she'll refund me in a few days, it's on her "to do list." Weeks and weeks goes by and still nothing. I was frustrated 'cause they got my money and I've got nothing. I've been lied to. After the nonsense runaround with ETSY I was fed up. On June 26 I've decided to file a dispute with them. My bank was very caring and understanding.
First, they deposited the money back into my account and secondly, they will further investigate. What do you know, two and half weeks later (July 15th) I've received an email from Liliana apologizing how terribly sorry they are and will refund me right away as of that day. Liliana claims in her email that they have stop selling those t-shirts I've wanted prior to me putting in my order and her "assistant" have marked my order as "complete." I call it bull. Just lies on top of lies. Liliana can't keep her story straight. They think I'm just some random John Doe and take advantage of but I'm not. I work hard for my money and so should they.
I am very grateful that my bank got my money back. After this incident I decided to write this review on them on my experiences. For those of you that haven't received your refund(s), notify your bank and file a "dispute" but don't wait long 'cause you only have a small window. Not one personal email pertaining to my account, not one communication as to when I might receive my refunds... nothing. For years I have been fortunate that the items I purchased through Etsy have been legit and I was not ripped off. Everything was great until 2 months ago when I purchased an $800 custom wig from a shop called Vivid Couture Wigs. The shop owner whose name is Antwane was very responsive and super polite, helpful and friendly. He assured me that my order would arrive before June 7th. A few days before the 7th, I was on Etsy and I went to look at his shop to get ideas for my next wig but could not do so. I kept getting a message saying the shop was gone. I began to panic. I started to look up his website and that too was gone. I checked his Facebook and that was also gone. I felt like I was going to be sick.
I remember he had emailed me from a personal email so I emailed him back there and he was quick to respond and assured me that Etsy closed his shop for some unknown reason but that he was cooperating with them to get everything back up and running. He told me he couldn’t access his customer orders to ship anything out but that he would do so as soon as he could. I emailed Etsy immediately after and they told me that they couldn’t disclose the reasons for why they closed his shop but that he has full access to his account and can still send out his orders for delivery. I went to email Antwane back and now he won’t answer me at all. I try every day. He won’t say a word to me.
Etsy will not allow me to file a claim against him until the 13th of June which is crazy considering he might be long gone by then and I could be out my $800. I did not pay with PayPal so I’m scared my purchase is not protected. Etsy just tells me to wait and then file a claim and they will hopefully be able to get this resolved. That’s just not good enough! And how long will I have to wait after I file the claim? Their customer service has not been the most clear. I see many conflicting things so I have no idea how this is going to conclude but I know I’m devastated and out $800! Never again will I make a large purchase like this from Etsy. I’ll stick to orders under $50 from now on.

I returned both items for refund at high shipping costs crossing customs in UK. I want others to know I simply had a seller harass me about a review I posted and needed the parent company Etsy to know about it. This was my first time to ever have a complaint about a product or seller while using Etsy. I have made over 20 purchases. You cannot contact Etsy directly. You have to “open a case” against a seller and the only two options for opening a case are (1) the item did not arrive or (2) the item was damaged when it arrived.
Another issue I discovered when trying to post my review is that Etsy only allows you to attach pictures if you’re posting a 5 star review. Trying to find a way to contact Etsy is time consuming and very frustrating in that it is hidden in lots of verbiage. Once you do contact them you must carefully monitor your phone calls because if you miss that call you go back on a 24 hour waiting list. Heads up, if you even find a “drop down menu” with the choice of “request a phone call,” (I could not despite reading and reread in their instructions on a separate page) and you get an e-mail reply you have only 15 minutes to be available after receiving the response to catch that call. I found that doing business with this company was truly too time consuming and frustrating to continue giving them my business.

I have used Etsy for well over a decade. In all that time, after over a thousand purchases, I have only had to open a case once for non-delivery. Otherwise, any issues I've had have been handled professionally by the sellers. People need to understand that these are real people fulfilling their orders. Etsy doesn't produce and ship products, PEOPLE do. On occasion, shops run by resellers slip through, because unfortunately, there is no jury process or vetting of sellers done by Etsy.
However, my experiences buying from this site have been largely positive. You will find items there that you can't find elsewhere, and you get to "meet" the people making them. You are supporting small businesses and artisans. Because of this, you shouldn't expect your shopping experience here to be like that on Amazon, etc. You are NOT buying from a huge company with no face. Perhaps consider these things before rushing to leave scathing reviews about how "bad" Etsy is. Common sense and reading listings and terms of use would save a lot of you some time in the long run.

And then the site wont take the promo codes. The biggest lie I found on the site besides it wont take any promo put on the section by the item you want to purchase. They have Free Shipping. This was this past Wednesday the 4th of April. I tried putting in the free shipping code on every item I purchased. They separate item from item just as they have the promo code and free shipping code done separately with the item.
So at the very end you dont save one penny and the shipping is outrageous more than the items put together. eBay used to have all their items in one bill now you have to pay them separately. It's nothing but a hassle and makes you not want to shop online anymore. The items I got one pair earrings from Etsy yesterday they scabbed my ears up the first time wearing them they were suppose to have gold coatings too. And my item today on eBay was so tiny when I told the computers search that I wanted a large pendant. It is so tiny you barely see it. Another Item located in the US not far from where I live, avg processing time (1-2) weeks, bought more than a month ago, was just shipped to me 3 days ago (has not arrived yet obviously), after sending going back and forth with the shop, item will need to be refunded, since it won't arrive by the time that I require it. I gave a very fair review of 3/5, and sent her a private message that her service was lacking, and she needs to not be so offended when a customer has an issue. She posted a reply that I verbally attacked her! I have been trying and trying to contact Etsy to have this post removed, as it is simply not how it went down, but the link they provide for a phone call takes you to a "not found" notice, and their online "help" consists of clicking around and around, only to be sent to forums and "helpful Q and A"s. If you do, the chance is that you would end up paying substantially less for your goods. Tell your family and friends about this too.
Etsy allows sellers to claim items are "handmade", when in fact, majority of the merchandise sold on their platform are massively manufactured and can be found for 1/5 to 1/50 price on Aliexpress.com and Ebay.com: accessories, bags, jewelry, and the list goes on. A piece of jewelry you buy for 1.00 or 2.00 on Aliexpress or eBay can be resold on Etsy for 50+. Many of the more savvy sellers retake pictures of their items so it is harder for buyers to perform image search. Their advertising is highly misleading.
On a personal note, I am surprised that Etsy has managed to get away this far and not come under any serious scrutiny by American consumers, media, and government regulatory authorities. I believe it is only a matter of time before their false and misleading advertising will get exposed to the mass American consumers.

I just got ripped off from this store. Their Items there are fake. They will get away with everything on ETSY. Please do not shop there. You will be sorry at the end. Etsy Protects CROOKED SELLERS. Please. This is a Warning. Once you get caught in their trap they win and you lose as a buyer. Do not shop not even at this crooked shop I am mentioning here... They got away with a purchase I made and they won't refund. Beware. Etsy Protects Crooked Sellers. Not Buyers. This was the worst experience I went through with this site. I ended closing my account as well.

This company closed my account due to items not being handmade. My items were not listed as handmade. There are hundreds of items sold on their website that are not handmade. I shipped my items sold through them and all items have been received by the buyers. They claim to be holding my money for 160 days and will not give it to me. I have a right to the money I earned.

My daughter's shop was closed suddenly 4 days ago and with NO warning and with NO explanation provided - just a closure based on "multiple violations" that were unspecified and unexplained. Etsy will shut down a business with no warning, no prior notice, and they will not communicate with you beforehand or afterward regarding their problem with your shop. In some cases, they may have had a past complaint about specific items on your page, and they had one complaint with my daughter over a tea cup on her page back in 2017. She immediately REMOVED the cup from her page, although other sellers on Etsy were selling the exact same cup and similar cups to the one she was trying to sell. Etsy took the suspension off her account.
On this occasion, Etsy just permanently shut her account down without making any explanation whatsoever, and upon investigation, we found that Etsy reserves the right to shut your shop down with no notice and no reason in their terms and conditions. My daughter is guessing that the reason her shop was permanently closed was because she put some party supplies on her page. However, she reviewed other shops beforehand and obtained similar party supplies from the same supplier whose merchandise other sellers on Etsy are currently selling from. In fact, we found thousands of the same type of party supplies on Etsy that appear to be the same merchandise. But the bottom line is, my daughter woke up one day and she was just suddenly put out of business with no warning and no notice.
It's a very unfair and heinous way for this company to treat its sellers and it is inexcusable. Etsy could easily set out a written policy in which Etsy communicates with the Seller and provide a set number of occasions in which it lodges complaints about a Sellers' practices before permanently shutting down a shop. In that way, the warning process will provide the Seller with an opportunity to salvage the business the Seller has built. Etsy also should be required to COMMUNICATE with the Seller so that there is an understanding of exactly what complaints Etsy has and what should be done to appease Etsy. In this instance, when my daughter contacted Etsy, she was met with rudeness, hostility and no advice whatsoever as to what the problem was. She followed up with a written email asking what she has done for Etsy to permanently close her shop down, and Etsy has failed and refuse to respond in any manner.
There needs to be government and other regulation over online companies like Etsy to protect the Sellers as well as the Buyers from this type of cruel treatment. There were Buyers communicating with my daughter about her merchandise, some of whom are friends and family, and it is humiliating to have to tell them that she has been put out of business. I know I will never again use an Etsy seller or purchase anything connected in any way with Etsy or its sellers, and I will spend the remainder of my life telling any and everyone who will listen what happened to my daughter. It is very devastating to be treated in such an inhumane way, to be humiliated publicly, and to be put out of a business you dearly loved in this manner.
No brick and mortar company would be allowed to do this to so many people - especially the number of people that Etsy has shut down - without answering to a higher authority and having a much larger complaint than one previous incident over a tea cup and a complaint about $3.00 party straws that many other people are also selling. In my opinion, it is ridiculous that Etsy is allowed to run rampant in this way and it hurts me to see a member of my family be treated this way.

The most poorly handled transaction I have ever seen and make sure you all read the fine print very clearly because their return policy if you try to even see if the item works is there is no return policy. As I found out recently!! So now I have a $50 piece that will not adhere to the wall (when other pieces do) and neither Etsy nor single stone studios will stand behind their product. I would encourage you all to look elsewhere because these are very cheaply made and the owner is every bit as cheap.

Etsy is acting absolutely ridiculous. I have recently opened a second shop on the same account with exactly the same bank info, and on the 18th of March had my first sale in this shop. At first Etsy tells me that my funds will be available on the 21st. Then two days later for some unfathomable reason it tells me it will be the 26th. I bet that there will be more changes, comes the 26th. The buyer used Etsy Direct Checkout. But even if the buyer uses Paypal, Etsy steps in and takes full control of the funds, presumably for the seller's convenience so the funds are accessible in the same place. No convenience here as the funds are held for a length of time at Etsy even if the seller has had Paypal account for a long time. Etsy is inventing more reasons to sit on your funds longer while using them interest-free, which is completely unacceptable. Will be on the lookout for the alternatives.

I ordered 2 clocks from IGBY Unique. They are so unique and beautiful. This will be my go to gift forever. I have also spoken with Sarah the owner and she was so thrilled that I enjoyed her product. She even sent a note with my purchase. THIS WAS THE BEST GIFT EVER.

I ordered dishes which according to my receipt I could return within 14 days. I refused the item, returned it, have a tracking number AND Etsy says they will not refund the money. I am working with my credit card company, but in the meantime, I think people should know that Etsy is a poorly run organization.

I recently purchased a custom print from Cedar Woodworks via Etsy. It was my first experience from buying through them. When the item arrived it was of very poor quality (nothing like the pictures on the website or the mock-up the store sent me). I complained to the seller who was most unhelpful, I pointed out that the picture he used when enlarged was not adequate quality the resulting image was all pixelated and blurry (none of the details could be seen). The seller refused to accept the item back. I then contacted Etsy who are totally biased on behalf of their sellers. They refused to help.
When I went to leave a bad review to warn other purchasers I learned that because my review was not 5 stars I would not be able to upload pictures proving how bad this item was!!! I am now out of pocket with an item which I do not want and all it is good for is firewood. I had other items in my wishlist which I was looking forward to buying in the next few months but I will never buy through Etsy again.

This is a devastating thing happen to me in Etsy on 14th of March, 2018 in the middle of the night. I started as a genuine craftsmen in Etsy and found success there with my portfolio and all. Thing went well when I found out there is this store, that obviously doing way much more business with drop shipping item from China. Using copy paste product image where you can easily google search by right clicking. The price is multiplied 3 fold or more. The seller been doing well and gain quite a lot of sales without getting in trouble.
And so, as a genuine craftsmen, I found this is unacceptable since the price is obviously hiked~ So I started a 2nd similar store, hoping to counter his method by drop shipping and sourcing service in a more acceptable pricing and proven quality that I provide a actual snapshot of the product. An improved version of service in that manner. And in the end, 2 months of route planning and improvement, while I have my first client, my account was permanently banned. INCLUDING my main store. Without any prior notice or chance to appeal, it's gone. With some project even going on halfway with my clients. Below is their reason:
"Per our Terms of Use, we reserve the right to terminate a member’s privileges at any time, for any reason. As we believe your account presents too high of a risk to continue to sell, my team and I have elected to revoke your account privileges permanently. Please do not open any new accounts on Etsy. They will be closed immediately and without notice."
So fine, I didn't check the rule properly since the other shop didn't get closed down. Even I get banned I accept it but, if that store still allow to continue with the same business operation, then where is the justice of this? Even my genuine handmade store is gone and unable to appeal, no reason is accepted even I have zero complaint and good customer relationship. This is Etsy, spitting their power inhumane toward anyone who doesn't live up to their rules. One mistake, everything you build up is just gone with their click of a button. I will await and see if they take any action toward that dishonest store. Until justice is done, I will keep watching.
