I ordered a wedding cake topper, the seller (Lasaredwithlove) just placed it between two pieces of cardboard and shipped it like that without writing fragile or don't bend. (Not that would have helped, it should have been packaged better.) When I received the product, it was broken. The seller was rude and I was getting nowhere with the seller so I opened a case with Etsy. Etsy said the seller cannot be held responsible. Really???!!! So I can send a product just by putting some tape around cardboard and if it is broken it is not my fault... really? And the seller of course did not insure the product because I didn't request that.

Sellers, beware! If you have nice stuff to sell, don't go to Etsy. There are much better places to list your products. It takes a lot of time and efforts to start selling on Etsy and build your reputation, and one day these unprofessional people will simply shut down your store because of a jealous competitor. Seems like Etsy "professionals" have no clue in the products listed and sold at their marketplace. Horrible customer/seller support, they coming up with nonsense reasons not to re-open your store. Don't waste your time!

I'm very much into planning and bullet journals, so I buy a lot of stationary items. Etsy is wonderful if you don't want the run-of-the-mill generic items that are bought at your local stores. They have great custom items that are very unique. With that said, I submitted a decent order to ** (who specializes in washi tape, stationary items and such). In the shipping tab, she states that she will ship her items between 1-3 business days. Great! I make my purchase. It was a Tuesday, and by Friday I haven't received a shipping confirmation email.
My items were still in Hawaii. Okay, no big deal, I'll just email her. No response. 2 days goes by and still nothing. I email a 2nd time. Again, I get no response. 4 days rolls by and I finally email Etsy and want to cancel my order and request a refund. Lo and behold, within a few hours I get a refund! Obviously this person (Nancy) deliberately ignored my order and ignored my emails, and continued to keep my money.
I had to request to get my money back... Wouldn't you just refund it back immediately if you didn't want to do business with me? Despite the rave reviews and 5 stars, this seller is a poor excuse for a business person. I have never met her, interacted with her, or bought anything from her outside of this transaction and she treats random customers like this! It's ok though, I believe in Karma...

I've purchased from several different sellers and have had a wonderful experience all the way around. Lunch totes, badge/ID lanyards, clothespin bags, purses, etc! The items are higher quality because they aren't mass produced. The sellers actually care about their customers. Speedy, more than reasonable rates on shipping, carefully packaged, fast/friendly responses from sellers when you have a question. Custom orders are received lightning fast. Add to cart. Enter payment/shipping info. Done. Unless they offer custom work, then you contact the seller and they work hard to accommodate you. It's an awesome place to shop. The sellers are great and the products the same.

I have purchased several items from this group, from Minion shoes to a phone case. The items shipped timely. Both items were beautiful but neither lasted very long. Shoes paint wore off within 5 times wearing it and phone case cracked within 2 months, and I haven't dropped the phone. I will use the site for beautiful items but I will not expect top quality.

We had been selling for over 1.7 years on Etsy. We had a 5 star (perfect rating) and never not resolved cases with our buyers, but this one buyer (who obviously received their package, but wanted to get it free) complained and complained to Etsy. We stood our ground (proved our case - with tracking number and all) and defended our policies. Etsy admin said none of what we showed was valid (which it was if they had taken the time to actually do their job and look compare the receipts and tracking number) and our policies meant nothing.
But alas, they said "since you won't refund the buyer we are suspending the shop." After that we contacted corporate and went up the chain, which before we could get an answer from the people who mattered and could most likely do their job. The admin DELETED our account (to cover their ass most likely). We called many times (and lost lots of money waiting) and their answer was "It's suspicious and we are looking into it", but nothing came of it. Lesson learned the VERY HARD way, if you don't do what ETSY says and give buyers free product you might well lose your store and livelihood. DO NOT MAKE A STORE WITH ETSY, HELL don't even buy from them (unless you want to support companies who can do this to good people)!!! CROOKS AND INCOMPETENTS!

I ordered a dress from Etsy and after a week I noticed I hadn't received a notification that it had been dispatched. I contacted them and they advised they had been at a wedding the past few days and had a closed down and had a backlog of orders. They said they would ship out asap. I questioned why it took so long and they basically said they had 3-5 days to pack the order (which was not noted in their shipping information on their website). Noting that it was the 5th day she replied back again and said we will pack it today. I know that if I had not of contacted them, my order would not have been sent that day.
I then realised with this delay, it was going to be a further 10-14 business days and it was going to cut it fine as the dress was for me to wear as a bridesmaid in NZ and I would need it altered before I left which I had allowed at least 5-6 days to get it altered before flying out. I complained and told them they needed to pay for the express shipping as I was not advised it would take a week to even dispatch. They then retorted that as I had said F&CK in my email they cancelled the order and refused to admit any fault of their own even though they admitted they had shut down for a few days.
I read their shipping information before placing the order which did not note packing/dispatching timeframes, but sadly it only makes mention of it once you have paid for the order of course - although I can't confirm that it says that as I did not see anything to that effect. Either way, they did not apologise or do anything to assist and only say that I had to pay express - probably a scam so they can get everyone to pay express shipping. What kind of company actually takes 3-5 days to pack an order? Not good enough these days. I have since read many many bad reviews about this company. Will be interesting to see if I get my money back anytime soon.

I am both an Etsy customer and a customer to the shops on Etsy. It's a little odd to me that Etsy would seem this many poor reviews but I guess more people are motivated to leave bad reviews than good so this seems a little inaccurate. People who purchase on Etsy should review the shop they are purchasing from. You can easily see the stores reviews as well as the number of items this store has sold. The specific items they have sold and year in which they opened the store are also readily available. Etsy does have support and I have had to request a phone call at least a dozen times so they have ALWAYS called back in an hour or less which is what they assure you they will do.
Furthermore, anyone, buyer or seller can go to Etsy forums and ask advice (buyer or seller). You can read what other topics the Etsy community is interested in and it's probably one of the most awesome forums I have ever experienced. What I would say is that there is not too much stock on these poor reviews because although I don't agree with everything Etsy does this is a little much. To confirm I am in fact an Etsy customer my username is ** on Etsy.

This is completely not true, when I asked what lead them to believe this I was told again that they had sufficient evidence that my account was linked and that they would not reply again! Completely rude and shocking that they can get away with this. I wish I had seen these reviews before I had put so much effort into my shop only to be closed by a rude, unhelpful, crazy company like Etsy. So if you're thinking about opening a shop please save yourself the hassle and DO NOT do it. They are holding 4700 for 4 months and they will not answer a single email. Very true, and the most overlooked or discounted fact about Etsy is that the seller has absolutely no control over their store. I had a very and experience after selling for almost a year, I encountered a tough client who, even after three months of making changes and accommodating her, was not happy with the outcome that she approved in the first place, and she filed a complaint against my store, and Etsy shut it down! I mean, where is the loyalty to the seller here, just the word of any random customer can cause your livelihood to stop? I was contemplating quitting my day job but thank god I didn't cause where would I be!!?
There is no place to call and talk about the issue, the customer service reps call you upon request and like government employees, say that they don't know anything and cannot answer any questions. It's quite sad that anyone, and I mean anyone, can complain about you and shut your business down, makes a seller feel cheated, really. Not to mention they charged me for hundreds of items listed on my account, and closed it without a second place and of course, I don't get that money back!

Let me just start off with I was a seller on etsy.com. My brother in law had helped me and my wife set up an Etsy account to help us make extra money for our family. We had our shop open for about 1 1/2 months making a little over $1000 the first month and on our way to $1500 the next month. Then Etsy suspended our account because my brother in law's site had a claim against it. They are claiming that we are the same, but he is in CO and we are in TX with separate emails, bank accounts and everything. The only tie is that he helped us set up our site and he is my brother in law. Now they won't even talk to me and you cannot talk to anyone everything in done by email. So I was forced to either refund the outstanding orders we still had or fill them, out of our pocket. Let me just say that they have $683.53 of money that I may or may not ever see. I will never sell or buy on Etsy ever...

I purchased this listing from this seller on June 10th from Etsy **. I was then put on a three month payment plan that is outlined in this email message to me: "Hi. Thanks for letting me know. That is the Silver E-commerce design package: **. This package can be split into two or three monthly payments. You can of course pay the amount sooner otherwise there needs to be at least one payment made each month. You choose the amount of payments (2 or 3 in this case) and the amount will be split evenly. There is a processing fee of $20 / 15 applied on top of the total amount of layaway payment plan commissions. Your website will become active before you pay the entire amount but if for some reason you fail to make the full payment it will deactivate completely. To start simply let me know the amount of payments you wish to make and I will publish a listing for you. After that I will provide a questionnaire to fill out and secure your slot."
I agreed to this and purchased her package through Etsy. I then gave her all of the information that she needed to design my site and even asked her if there was anything else that she needed from me and she said no. She never showed me anything or told me to make another payment. So I figured that she was still working on my site. She then announced on July 18th that my site has been completed. She sent me an uncustomized site that looked nothing like the ones she advertises. It looked like a shell.
She then expected me to make payments toward that. I told her that I wanted a refund. She said no and because it's considered a service Etsy says that they can't get involved because it's not a product. She advertises great sites in her listing and provides you with not even half of what she advertises. All the sites in her listing can't be pulled up on Google. She doesn't use a business address or a full first and last name. She only uses pictures that hide her face.

I have been an Etsy seller for somewhere near ten years and operate two vintage shops. I have read through some of the reviews left here for Etsy, and I am saddened to read about the service that some of the buyers have been subjected to. The lack of support that Etsy provides (no contact phone number, the delay in responding to issues for sellers and buyers and, reportedly never responding in some cases, etc.) is disturbing. The recent payment processing issues have also been a nightmare for many sellers and buyers. My sales transactions were not involved in that fiasco, however, as I use stand alone Paypal only and do not use Etsy's payment processing plan. Then, there was a recent billing/payment fiasco with Etsy where many buyers were charged multiple times. Etsy stated these fiasco issues were a fault of its payment processor, Worldpay.
In the ten years I have been a seller at Etsy, I have read many horror stories in the forums. However, having been in the legal profession for a very long time, I realize there are always at least two sides to every story (and sometimes three or four sides). In the forum complaints, we only hear one side of the story, and most readers of those complaints immediately make a judgment based upon the one side of the story they hear. While I am sure that some bad transactions do occur, and while there probably are some bad sellers at Etsy, I believe most sellers at Etsy are honest and reputable and care about their customers and about making things as right as possible.
I know, too, that many buyers simply make purchases without first reading the descriptions and the sellers' policies. Failing to do that does cause some problems for the buyers which then falls back upon the sellers. It is always the sellers' responsibility to have policies in place and to write accurate descriptions of what they are selling. Buyers also have a responsibility to read the descriptions and the policies and to always ask questions prior to purchase, if they have any question at all about the thing they are considering purchasing.
Many buyers seem to blame Etsy as a whole when their transaction goes bad. They fail to realize that Etsy is like a mall, and sellers are individual shop owners within the mall. Likewise, just because one seller might be a bad one, that does not mean all sellers are bad. There are many good ones. I have had two shops for as far back as ten years. During this time, I have sold somewhere near 2,000 items. Not once have I ever had a problem with USPS delaying the delivery. I have never had one single item delivered in a damaged or broken state because I pack as if there will be no tomorrow.
I have never had a customer make a claim for an item not being as described. I have an excellent rating from my Buyers who have purchased through my Etsy shop. This is all because I care about my customers and what I sell to them. I simply would ask that buyers not blame all sellers for their bad experience with one bad seller. I would also ask that buyers not blame Etsy generally when they have a bad experience.
There are flaws and faults with Etsy, however, which I give a 4-star rating. There are several issues with Etsy that needs to be fixed. The most critical issue of all is that Etsy needs a phone number where it can be reached. This business of having to call Etsy and leave a message to request a call-back is hogwash. If someone is handling my money, I insist on being able to talk to that entity that manages my money, and this is not possible with Etsy (thus the reason I use only stand alone Paypal for my payment processor). And, of course, we all know the issue of the re-sellers of mass made items on Etsy which are neither handmade nor vintage. We also know the issue of the infringements that are made where sellers sell the trademarked and copyrighted items.
Overall, though, I write this review to ask that buyers read the descriptions and policies prior to purchasing. I ask that all concerned keep in mind that the complaints you hear are not just one-sided stories. I ask that you remember that the fault of one bad seller is not necessarily the fault of Etsy itself, nor is it the fault of all sellers at Etsy. If you are a seller who has a problem with Etsy's payment processing, and you still have the option to use stand alone Paypal, you may consider switching back to that (and I promise you that you will not miss out on any sales as a result of Paypal only).
All of my listings advise the buyers that I can turn DC on for them to use it if they prefer that rather than Paypal, and not one has ever asked me to switch to DC for them to pay. I have, perhaps, had the best summer of selling in my ten years at Etsy, and that is all Paypal sales. I would also ask that sellers always communicate with your buyers and remember the importance of timely shipping and good packing in order to try to get your buyers' purchases to them timely and safely. As for the Etsy issues I have mentioned, we can continue to contain the hope in our human hearts that those issues will someday be resolved.

Avoid etsy!! I hate having to say this as both buyer & seller on there as I like to support the handmade businesses on there and have purchase unique thongs. But if you get scammed by a seller you can then expect the same from etsy... I purchased two swimwear items from a shop called Columbian swimwear. I was told items would take up to 20 days. They never came so I contacted seller over a tracking number he said he would get it. Went back next day after to check for it, seller had closed his shop down so I opened case. Seller replied once I have. Today received package, 32 days later, containing one wrong item & one missing. He also postage declaration shows he posted it 2 weeks later than what he declared to etsy.
You are unable to upload images you attach in case center, a woman who I spoke with from etsy said no other reports of this problem. I reported (a lie!) There are forums complaining of same problem). They now want be to wait a unlimited amount of time for a decision, after escalating my case. From what I can see this is happening a lot. Sellers ripping buyers off then either shutting their shop or etsy closing the shop down when buyers complain. And then etsy will tell them as the shop no longer exists they can't refund them!! This will mean I've been scammed by 60... Please avoid people.

The title says it all. After a decade of selling on Etsy they closed us down for "intellectual property infringement" for a design that as of today is being sold by hundreds of customers in one variation or another. I contacted them and told them this is a huge hit. This is over a third of my family income. That over the course of ten years we have established many repeat customers, wholesale accounts, designed and filled custom orders, and have one after another positive reviews coming in daily. And like I said before, the design that was the problem is being sold by hundreds of other sellers. This is the scenario every single time I have been "reported". I go and search and right there in front of me are hundreds of similar designs.
When I asked them why is it my listing catches heat but there are still literally hundreds of the same design out there the only response I received was along the lines of "we assure you that you are not being singled out and there will be no more responses to your emails." Oh and they threw in there "to not open another Etsy account as this is a serious violation and could lead to all associated shops being shut down." Well you know what? They already shut all my shops down... and my daughter's shop and my stepdaughter's shop. So not only has this affected me the "guilty" party but a few innocent bystanders that happen to have the unfortunate circumstance of sharing a computer/router with me.
I am furious at how this was handled and there is no recourse. I was told that all the information was in the email that was sent to me and if I wanted to contact the holder of the rights I could. But even if it was a mistake or I was cleared that they most likely wouldn't open my shops back up. I am simply blown away that a company that is as well known would conduct business in such an amateur and juvenile manner. I have seen this happen to other sellers that deal primarily in customized textiles over the years. I always felt that I was in danger. I just never imagined that they would just shut me down after ten years and tons of positive reviews. It's heart wrenching to have your shop shut down but still have positive reviews rolling in. And then to search and find the exact or even worse, blatantly infringed designs being sold.
I don't think there is anyone who researches these cases. It seems if you are bold enough to blatantly lie, research, and fill in the proper information that corresponds then they look at it like "looks good to me" and there's a strike against you. Nothing else would make any sense. If it was legitimately the rights holder then wouldn't they have every listing taken down and not just a few at random? My advice: if you're making anything over a few hundred bucks a week then move on. Forget them because Etsy does not care about its sellers one single bit.

I have been a buyer and seller on ETSY since 2008. Recently in July 2016, Etsy has double billed customers using Worldpay as their Payment processor. Etsy then went on to spread these double billing issues out so it was not obvious at first. Charges would return again hitting the merchant (FVF) and customer with up to several weeks in between.
Customers would leave negative feedback (the feedback rating is a bunch of one way crap in favor of the customer regardless of the truth in the transaction) against the shop - which is not ETSY. Etsy hosts seller shops and forces shops to lose business reputation and money because Etsy will not offer customer service lines when their payment processor goes down and double charges, triple charges or steals money from shop accounts.
ETSY FORUMS suck - the censors are alive and well in there. The outcry was so furious that admin pinned 2 topics relating to the recent Worldpay Etsy debacle unleashed a firestorm of furious customers and left shops with no way to refund customers. This has continued to drag on well beyond JULY 4th 2016. The two topics were: "Why I am I double charged?" and "Why are payments processing beyond 48 hours?" MOST payment processors can do this in MINUTES not days. This is a new turn of events since the Worldpay issue. Some processing times are over 10 days long. Check the forums. That is, if you can locate the now UNPINNED topics relating to these and more supposed bugs that hit all around the same time as the Worldpay theft of customers and shops.
Anyone daring to speak up and out against the shady business practices asking where refunds are after over 2 months are deleted from the forums - closed - and the person is then censored in time out by Etsy moderators who are a bunch of ignorant indie children ill-equipped to handle the fiscal responsibilities of thousands of customers. Later, there have been numerous reports of third charges for a single purpose though etsy and world pay claim this was resolved as of 7/26. It is now 8/11 and none of this has been fully resolved.
Customers and shop owners have been told to email Etsy support for help regarding their double charges and lack of refunds along with payment processing in excess of 48 hours. The person has to call a number - leave a message - and WAIT until someone calls back. Many never received a callback and when reporting it in the forum, were replied to by moderators that they had received their email and will follow up accordingly as detailed in that email. The thread was then shut down and buried. Other threads were then posted detailing that this is a lie and Etsy never sent a follow-up email nor did they resolve anything. Again these reports in the forums are shut down. Etsy has NO CUSTOMER SERVICE phone number.
If ANYONE dares to speak out about the lack of transparency and demand answers, they will get an email sent to their account that prevents them from participating in the forum. If you visit the forum you will see this block: "You don't have permission to participate in this discussion." Etsy sucks. They are being sued for a lack of transparency by those who bought stock and did not realize Etsy does and currently still permits copyright protected items in knock-off shops. Big names like Disney, Marvel, etc., are all over the site and Etsy ignores this, claiming the only one able to remove such shops is the copyright holder. This way they are again - not responsible - and are making money off the backs of major companies while claiming ignorance as a defense.
Article posted by shops and customers surrounding this **: Does anyone have orders processing? - one shop posts: One bug report thread starting July 01, 2016 with 17,495 responses, 776 Pages and counting, as well as numerous other threads with people having the same type of issues and this hasn’t been sorted out yet? Another post: Keeping in mind that banks/credit cards do fraud checks usually in a matter of seconds... Before the Worldpay/DC disaster it seemed like the majority of payments went through without so much as a hiccup, with a small number reported in the forums as being held for hours (not days) for fraud reviews. Then the crap hit the WP/DC fan.
After Etsy said it was all resolved, sellers are still reporting payment delays of up to 7 days (last time I looked). But Etsy's answer to this is it's normal for payments to be held for 48+ hours for fraud review. So, what changed between pre-fan crap and post fan crap that has now made the fraud review affect so many more sellers, and take nearly a week to resolve in some cases? And seems to be affecting only sellers with DC. I call bullpucky. The only common denominator, is the Worldpay/DC disaster. I am calling a class action suit lawyer today

I ordered a $400 ring on Etsy and had numerous issues with the seller "Holzringshop", such as poor or no communication, a whopping 4 and half month long wait time, and severe unprofessionalism. Etsy refused to let me refund the purchase even though I had not received my item and furthermore would not allow me to leave a review to warn his other potential customers. Suffice it to say, I won't be shopping with Etsy anymore.

I guess happybugdigital is very busy for the holidays. I tried calling customer support AGAIN with Etsy and no avail. The woman did call and left me a message. The email I received from Etsy said this was a digital purchase (whatever that is - explain before purchase because I don't know what this is). All I want is my order - just ship it... more importantly, but good luck getting a live person at Etsy. Etsy, you are not what everyone makes you out to be. I will NEVER NEVER use either incompetent company. I will make sure many people are aware not to use either happybugdigital or etsy. What goes around comes around. Etsy's policy for problems with other sellers is "work it out with the seller!" This is so unprofessional to tell people to solve the problem themselves! My shop was reported repeatedly by another seller who sells similar items. Etsy does not investigate the claim. They just remove the listing, and tell you to "work it out" with the person who complained. After several reports, (even though they were false) my shop was shut down without warning, or specific reason. They tell me I can appeal, but there is no link to file a claim. All I could do is send an email, which got me a response for denial to reopen again with no specific reasoning. Basically because someone else said I did something (that I didn't do) so, I got punished for it. Again, they told me to "work it out" with the person who made the claim. Ha! The person who made the claim made it their personal goal to shut me down! How would THAT help??

I have purchased a dress and earrings from separate shops on this site. The custom dress I spent nearly $200 on came shipped in a plastic shopping bag. It arrived late because the shop owner did not ship when she said she did according to USPS even though she had me pay an additional $40 for shipping. When I reached out to get information about when my package would arrive all communication stopped. I reached out to Etsy who offer no assistance. Their customer service and case system is a joke. Eventually I received the dress which was nothing like what was advertise. It was several different pieces of material stitch together and the front of the dress was exactly 2 feet longer than the back which was floor length if you can imagine.
The dress was useless and not functional as a dress. I would be walking on 2 ft of material. It was also dirty and smelled terrible. I was so upset. I threatened to file charges and it was only then that I received a refund from the shop owner who claimed to be out of the country which is why she was not responding. Even after this ordeal I gave Etsy another chance ordering a pair of what was supposed to be gold earrings.
When the package arrived. I was so disappointed that the earrings were ill-shaped, broken and definitely not gold. It was yellow wire hanger bent to shape and not attached to the hook that would go in the ear. I immediately contacted the shop owner. 2 weeks went by with no response. I contacted Etsy to open a case. Sent pictures to show it was not what the seller is advertising and I also left a negative but honest review. Etsy did not help me at all. The seller contacted me after 3 weeks and stated she was going to issue a refund, however since I left a negative review she changed her mind. I sent this message to Etsy and still they refused to intervene. I would never shop here again because they allow sellers to use their platform to scam and rip people off and you have no recourse.

I had cancelled 3 purchases on Etsy.com, and the vendors had graciously processed the cancellations. I knew I might have to wait a little longer for the refund to arrive as Etsy was having problems with its third party payment processor. I needed the funds and was checking my account frequently to see whether they'd arrived. Saturday July 16, I woke up to find out that all three charges had been DEBITED - not refunded - to my account. I had paid for all three cancelled purchases twice, without authorization.
I tried to contact Etsy. Their site does not make it easy to find help. A maze of dropdown menus that didn't apply to my concern led me to a form I could fill out to contact them via email. Phone response was available after 10 am, in a couple of hours. I filled out forms for both, then an extra email for good measure. I wanted this resolved urgently. My bank said they wouldn't start an investigation until I'd talked to Etsy. I continued to try and contact Etsy. I even signed up for Twitter to ask for action. Still nothing. Bank said "It will be faster just to get the seller to automatically reverse the charges." Not in this case.
I did receive a couple of emails from Etsy. All three told me my case had been "escalated" and I'd hear back "soon", that they aim to respond "within 24 hours". It's been more than 24 hours, and, of course, no response. I did not get the impression that they thought the damage to my bank account was serious. Meanwhile, I will have NSF charges to fight as I seriously could not afford charges to my account - that's why I didn't authorize any. The support person on Twitter directed me to a "bug fix" thread, which did not contain an adequate explanation or a solution. It certainly did not contain an apology. The most recent update says to wait, and that they are working on it. This is woefully inadequate. Other customers report not being able to buy food, or being stranded on their travels because of these unauthorized charges.
I felt that this company did not at all take seriously the fact that they had put me and other customers in such a compromising position. They gave no information other than "we're working on it", and a reference to a practice that did not seem at all related. (Pending charges for authorization of accounts... Not the same as double charging.) I was told that I would be contacted "soon", and was not contacted. I would rather be able to phone someone and talk to a real person to get an urgent concern resolved.
I'd prefer to buy from companies that: a) have solid, secure payment systems that do not debit my account without authorization; b) process payments and refunds instantly; c) are easy to contact with concerns, preferably including a phone number; d) take my concerns seriously and have policies that allow for real solutions. Finally I prefer friendly customer service, but would settle for competent. Etsy provides none of the above qualities or services. I adore the vendors and love supporting small businesses. It is unfortunate that in order to do so, I have to deal with a very large business that has no respect for the customer.

I have been a seller on Etsy for 2 years now. This is how I make a living, selling custom illustrated shoes. WHEN a technical issues arises which is very frequently, there is no way to get help. There are 2 options to make it appear you have support. One is "write an email to Etsy". The last email I wrote to them took 8 days to respond. 4 others went unanswered altogether. These were inquiries about a customer of mine, and we need help right away. I lost a couple hundred dollars due to Etsy's lack of communication.
The next option is to "request a phone call". This option is deactivated when they have a high number of calls. As you can imagine, the button to request a call is inactive 70% of the time. Once you do get someone on the phone, the only thing they have to power to do is tell you "I will escalate this to the right department." They will not work with you to fix ANY problem on the phone. Their only job is to put out fires and send the problem somewhere else. They say they will contact you to follow up, which of course does not happen. I have requested a call countless times, my issues were NEVER resolved by Etsy. Their real only policy for support is to pass the buck and blame someone else.
2 days ago I got an email from Etsy saying that I have too many orders open and threatened to hold my funds for 130 days, and that I need to step up my customer service or they will suspend my account. I would never recommend buying anything that cost more than ten dollars on Etsy, and then only if you could afford to throw the ten dollars away. I bought an expensive, hand-made rug which started to fall apart and look worn and shabby after just a few months. Before buying it, I contacted the seller and told her exactly where and how the rug would be used in my home. She assured me that the rug was made to last. Well, it wasn't but that's not the issue I had with Etsy – buyer beware, I fault myself. (FYI, the seller offered to try to repair the rug, but it's very heavy and I'd have to ship it across the country – too expensive! AND there's not much you can do for a worn-out looking rug.)
My problem is this: at the time I received the rug, it looked beautiful and well-made and I left an extremely positive review. There is no mechanism on Etsy for revising or deleting a review. I spoke with someone at Etsy and told them that I did not want my positive review to mislead someone into buying this rug that they would be wasting their money, too. (It cost A LOT of money!) Etsy's customer service rep basically said "too bad". So I closed my account. I have purchased a lot of nice things on Etsy, too, things that lasted, so I'll miss being able to shop there. I just feel it's not worth the risk, especially on more expensive items. And I am worried that someone will read my review and make a purchase based on it.

I've ordered from here several times, but confess I rarely use it due to these issues below. However, that considered, I've had more disappointments with Etsy than any other online retailer - and I do a lot of my shopping online. First, if you see something on Etsy that you like, type the same product or info into Google and you might find that it's not as unique as the seller claims it is. I almost bought a jacked up price ring but was lucky and the seller incorrectly listed my size when she didn't stock it. Annoying but, sure, we're all human. Found the same item on Amazon and a few other retailers!
Products - You might get lucky and find something unique and genuine. However, note that some sellers will buy in bulk and just hype up prices while claiming "handmade". Especially where jewelry is concerned (Yes, it might say 'handmade', but not by them). Again, check Google and other seller websites. I don't feel that Etsy does any quality control at all.
Customer Service. Well, what customer service? You can open a case but sellers can close the same case by simply refunding or cancelling something. Does Etsy monitor such sellers? I did find a great deal of speedy replies and help in the forums. That's how I learned that one of my failed purchases was never shipped based on the status of the USPS tracking. Maybe the seller hoped I'd forget and wanted to keep the money past the point where I could do much. Who knows.
Sellers. Again, this is my experiences talking. One word? Frustrating. Hit or miss where honesty is concerned as well. The ones I've had problems with were average Joe IQ - and I'm being kind. I ordered a Toothless (How to Train Your Dragon) necklace and the seller obviously didn't want to ship it. Perhaps she messed up the listing price or something as she still sells them but hyped the price another $10 since I purchased! 2 weeks - not shipped, no contact. I contacted to ask what was happening, and was told it would ship right away. Looked like that was solved. Roll on 2 weeks later I suddenly remembered this necklace out of the blue and checked the tracking - Tracking said "pre-shipment" information sent but was never physically sent. Same as it was when she first "shipped" the item.
The seller gave abrupt replies over messaging, and I became annoyed at chasing a product I'd paid money for only to get these short, **, unhelpful answers, no compromise or anything, so I gave her the 1 star I think she honestly deserved. She gave a warped response to my feedback saying (quote): "I was incredibly kind to this customer repeatedly, doing what I could to fix the problem and staying in contact with updates". Laughable! Note she only replied those 2 occasions that I contacted her, each a single line response, no explanation, no effort, no compromise. Etsy doesn't let you follow up on the seller feedback so make sure you get your point across first time around. I would have liked to state that she was anything but helpful via messaging and did nothing to fix anything, just (eventually) refunded.
A long time ago I reserved something with this seller and within a day or two they sold it. She was aware when I would be making the purchase but probably just wanted to sell it asap. So, don't expect much and you won't be disappointed. I think Etsy is much more 1-on-1 than most online retailers and as the saying goes 'there's nowt strange as folk'. If you have a problem with a seller as I did, and you can't reach a resolution, discuss with your bank. I did not get anywhere looking for a chat or number for Etsy. I thank the helpful forum faeries on there but I think they are helping Etsy when it honestly doesn't deserve it.

When arrived, they were a bit large so the representative said to mail them back with a shoe that fit her, so she could match them. I never received any new sneakers, nor my wife's one good shoe. I've tried corresponding several times via email with no response. This has been close to a year.

I had a trace on the package and the post office said it was delivered. Etsy still drag around for a couple weeks then threatened the seller to remove his account. How does that get my money back? I had to take it to the credit card co and wait another month after wasting my time with Etsy CS. Can you get some good deals here... yes. Can you get ripped off... yes. Will Etsy help? They didn't help me. Just wasted my time. This is why sellers come to Etsy... most on Etsy are eBay rejects.

If you have an issue, Etsy does not support you in the least. Approach every transaction as though you're willing to risk the money. I bought $60 worth of merchandise from a woman who ended up being psychotic -- clearly shown in my email exchanges with her. She took my $ and sent me something completely different from what I ordered. Despite repeated requests to Etsy to help, and providing massive amounts of evidence to support my claim, Etsy did not respond to my requests for review and eventually told me that my case was solved. What?
Furthermore, their search functions on the site are a joke. Plan to spend lots of time going through pages and pages of duplicate items. I've contacted them multiple times to question functions on the site. They are always quick to respond, but with incorrect information that is later refuted by another Etsy person. Etsy started out as a great idea, but apparently greed and poor management rule these days.

Ordered as a present for a 21st birthday. I will be giving the gift as it was requested, but not what I was expecting. Firstly, I ordered it on 25/4/16 and it wasn't dispatched until 3/5/16. 8 days is a long time to take to dispatch an order. Secondly, very poor contents which I didn't think matched the description - a box containing 6 sheets of writing paper, a flimsy guide book which was not the best quality, ink, pen, nib and a pen holder - cost £55.00 (I would have paid £20 max if I'd seen it first). Thirdly, postage was charged at £8.00. It actually cost £2.85, as printed on the stamp. Even if you added the cost of the brown padded envelope this is a very inflated postage price. Someone is doing very well out of all of this. Overall, not very impressed.

Be warned before making a big purchase off of Etsy. I feel misled and scammed by a seller who didn't give me what we ordered! I will only purchase items now from a trusted seller. This was a very expensive gift from my teen daughter and husband - 395.00. Seller got upset after my honest, personal review. I did not receive what I thought I was getting. Seller admitted they reused their pictures. I thought I was getting the item as advertised and in the pictures, nowhere in their listing did they state item in pictures are examples of their work. Also stated no returns or refunds. ONLY stated AFTER I left a honest and personal review of what I purchased that they would've offered a refund. Well do you offer returns or refunds or pick and choose?
She offered a change (not sure what was meant by a "change". Being told by other artists hard to do on this type of completed item) but after being condescending and comparing Etsy to Walmart policy (really) I knew what I was dealing with. Stated I was "petty" for her lack of thought and workmanship? No thought or effort in my opinion went into their work.
After further research on both eBay and Etsy realized this is common practice for this seller. Two people bought the "same" item (Same pictures on two different sites, obviously two different items). One from eBay, the other on Etsy. My point don't lie and be honest in a listing which is Etsy's policy, if you're a seller. Not good business practice!
Seller got upset over my review over what WE purchased! My right as a consumer. I didn't contact them because I thought I had no recourse as stated in all of their listings, no refunds or returns. I figured that I had NO resolution, case opened with Etsy. Etsy PER THEIR POLICY told me to contact seller after a case was opened to try to resolve. Seller asked me to stop messaging her...
Now forced to go through other channels to resolve this. I sent several messages. All saved before making the purchase. Have pictures off of eBay and Etsy with evidence that seller is pulling a bait and switch and has nowhere in their listing that item will not be the exact item you'll receive. Listing from my order and seller's other listings are saved as well to show this. Find someone you are comfortable and trust! Thankfully I found both. I will not do any further business on Etsy! Lesson learned!

Some sellers are TRULY good on Etsy. I just bought a wedding dress and a shawl with them - both great value and exactly as described - beautiful. Sadly though my latest purchase were two bangles which were supposed to be 'gold plated brass and gemstones' from ** - the things which arrived looked like the image of the items I bought in only the loosest sense. They were light as - well plastic - no way were they brass and gemstones. There was a bubble in one of the 'gems' - clearly plastic crap. Instead of apologising, Etsy instead accused ME of trying to EXTORT the seller when I messaged her and told her to refund me the item + shipping since it was NOT as described! This is incredible. The seller has agreed after my chasing her AGAIN to refund the items but NOT THE SHIPPING which from UK to NY is EXPENSIVE.
Etsy does not care. I used PayPal to which I shall try and look for help but Etsy simply went on about how reviews cannot be dependent on resolutions or some crap. Of COURSE reviews should be based on the outcome - so if she had apologised and agreed to a full refund I might have given her a better review. As it is ** has accused me of having a 'poor, threatening tone' - and I cannot review until May 6th. Further I read that unfavourable reviews can and are deleted by Etsy - so be warned. There ARE good shops on Etsy but it's impossible to know which because bad reviews are deleted and shops use stock images. If you could hold my bangles you would die laughing. They are like toys for toddlers NOT 'handmade gemstone jewellery' as they should be based on her description and the $70 I paid for them! Sick.
Such a shame as I will never buy from Etsy again despite my good experiences - this bad experience is, judging from the multitude of bad reviews on here and other customer sites NOT an exception but more like the rule. Etsy clearly doesn't care about fraudulent sellers but prefers to accuse BUYERS of trying to use EXTORTION! Images below show the bubble in the 'Blue Quartz',the weak colour saturation in the 'Pink Tourmaline' and, how TINY they are compared to a chapstick! They literally bruised my small hand when I tried them on! They are fit for children's cheap toys only! This is what they are described as - **. Buyer beware.

I purchased a Herkimer diamond bracelet from Darla from beadingbamma on March 20, 2016 and paid $6 extra to upgrade it to a thicker chain and another $6 to upgrade the lobster clasp to a box clasp. I sent Darla 3 separate convos specifically stating that the clasp has to be as strong and secure as possible. The bracelet arrived a week later with a broken, bent clasp that wouldn't stay locked. Immediately upon opening the package and seeing the clasp I sent Darla a convo telling her the clasp is broken and doesn't stay locked. She told me to return the bracelet and she would replace the clasp with a standard lobster clasp. Since it was obvious to me that Darla and I don't share the same definition of a strong, secure clasp, and since I had already waited a week for this bracelet, and returning it would mean another 2-3 weeks before I received it back, I offered to take it to a local jeweler to see if he could repair the clasp.
The jeweler adjusted the clasp but the adjustment didn't hold. He told me the clasp was defective and cheap and would not hold up to regular use. He then showed me another box clasp that was at least 4 times as thick as the clasp Darla gave me. I stood in the jewelry store and compared the 2 clasps and realized this seller either didn't understand the meaning of a secure clasp or didn't care. I told the jeweler to remove the broken clasp and install the new, secure clasp. Later I sent Darla a convo with pics of the new clasp and asked her if she would please credit my account for the $6 she had charged me to upgrade the clasp and for a portion of the money I paid the jeweler for the new clasp. I explained to her that I was afraid to return the bracelet to her to change the clasp because I had clearly requested a secure clasp and she sent the bracelet with a broken clasp instead.
Darla flatly refused, called me a liar, denied the clasp she sent was broken, told me I didn't know how to work a box clasp (particularly funny since I have other jewelry with the same kind of clasp) and accused me of harassing and threatening her. She then offered an $8 credit, and since she owed me $6 for the broken box clasp that left $2 towards the cost of the new clasp, which was $20. I told her this was unfair, as it would cost her much more than $8 if I returned the bracelet to her. "So why not meet me halfway and I'll take care of it. I thought this was a win-win for us both."
I had planned to leave my review the day I received the bracelet and rather than leave a negative review I asked the seller if we could please resolve this before I left an honest review of this transaction. This resulted in the seller accusing me of extortion. Truthfully seller has very few sales and less than half of her buyers left reviews, so I didn't want to add a negative review, which would stand out like a sore thumb. I contacted Etsy for help and was advised to open a case against seller, which I did.
Fast forward to weeks later. I had supplied every bit of info and supporting pics and convos Etsy requested and even lowered the amount of the credit I was asking for. Seller's response was to copy and paste the same accusations that I was lying, harassing and threatening her. Seller also said she had the same clasp the jeweler gave me. When I asked her (repeatedly) why she hadn't given me the thicker clasp to begin with, she refused to answer. I asked that same question at least 3 times and Darla never answered me.
All I wanted was a resolution that was fair to both of us. If I returned the bracelet, seller would have had to credit me $6 for the box clasp and pay the shipping both ways (another $6). So it would have cost her $12 plus whatever she paid for the lobster clasp (maybe $1), so her out of pocket would probably have been $13. I originally asked for a credit of $20, which I felt was fair to us both. I then lowered it to $18 and then lowered it again to $16. Seller continued to flatly refuse and accuse me of stealing, lying, etc. I spoke to Etsy by phone several times and each time they told me there's nothing they can do, it's up to the seller. So why tell me to open a case? And then suddenly, like many other buyers posting here, I received an email from Etsy telling me because I fixed the broken clasp myself the case is closed and I should continue dealing directly with the seller.
Most of Etsy's emailed responses to me were obviously cut and pasted. Not only did they ignore the facts but why tell me to open a case and then tell me there's nothing they can do if the seller won't cooperate? Etsy has gone downhill fast and I think they'll probably be gone soon. The complaints from buyers and sellers on this website alone are astounding. No business that operates like this can last, especially with heavy hitters, who understand the meaning of good customer service, right on their tail. Etsy has become a joke. My advice: Walk away from them. You can find much of their stuff on other sites. And especially avoid Darla from beadingbamma who in my experience is one of the nastiest, most unprofessional business owners I have ever dealt with. My goal in posting this is to help someone else avoid these businesses and these problems. Hope this helps to do that.

When I contacted the seller they told me that they would send me a free necklace that would be 18 inches and that they looked into the issue and one of their new people had mistaken my chain length. The next chain I received was also 16 inches and I placed both the chains next to my first initial purchase to show the difference in length.
The seller then told me to send back the last two necklaces and they would compensate me with a bigger necklace and a free chain that would both be 18 inches. I sent back the necklaces and decided to rate them on the Etsy page and I gave them one star because of the situation. They told me unless I change my review they would not be helping me so I went ahead and changed it. Once that review became permanent they decided to write me to tell me that the two necklaces I sent back were actually both 18 inches and not 16 inches which is a lot because I have proof that it's not and they're saying they have proof that it is but they are using two completely different necklaces. Does anyone feel like Etsy is just a place for deadbeats and losers to open up shops, only to drop the ball completely and mishandle online transactions? I've had to open a case TWICE for two separate sellers of Etsy because they are pulling the typical BS that I've been noticing lately. Allow me to give you an example: You purchase an item and expect it to be shipped within a timely manner, since the description of the item clearly states: "ready to ship in 3-5 business days". A week goes by, and the seller finally creates a shipping label for it.
For any of you not in the know, this merely means they printed the damn thing out but haven't anything else yet. Another week goes by, and another... then you're left wondering, where the hell is my item? So you contact the seller. Nothing. Contact the seller again? Nothing. You open up an Etsy case, and after more than a MONTH has gone by, the seller finally responds, says nothing, but issues a refund. So my question to Etsy is this: why do you allow deadbeats like this to exist on your site? Why isn't something more serious done about the piss poor nature of how this is handled? It angers me beyond belief that someone can be holding onto my money and take their sweet ass time to ship out my item.

After a week, I contacted her and she claimed post offices never scan in items, only scan them when about to be delivered. I have been buying online since 2001 and knew that was untrue. She said she would check her post office on her end.
After a week of hearing nothing, I emailed her and she had not checked with her post office. She finally said she checked and did not know anything yet. At the 3 week mark, I advised I wanted a refund. She tried to get me to take another painting from her site which I was not interested in. She then claimed she had no money and would have to sell something to get me a refund. Meanwhile, I am constantly checking her sales and some of the items are very expensive and add up to way more than my painting. She says she will refund one day and then does not and then a week after that refunds the smallest of the payments.
I inquired about the balance of $175 and she promises to refund it the Monday of the next week. That Monday comes and goes and no refund so I open a case with my credit card company. Finally she refunds the balance and then sends me an email that the shipping label was destroyed but the post office sending it back to her. She stated she would not resell it to me when she received it back. Tracking still had no other detail than shipping label printed. Just a note one of her paintings she currently has listed said it sold before. I think she sells perfume bottles and hats and ships them but I think the paintings never leave her house. The leggings were cheap, mass produced and with tags inside that read "Made in China". Thin fabric and poor stitching. The company accepted returns but the package had to be shipped to England for $30. My total loss for postage was over $40.
Etsy does not have customer service and they do not respond to emails. The worse part is that Etsy does not allow you to post a review of the company if you return the items. So it would appear that this company, Rainbow Rules, does not have any bad reviews. When in fact, you are not allowed by Etsy to post a negative review if you are unsatisfied with the item(s). On December 7th I ordered a pipe lamp from a seller on Etsy, I explained I needed the lamp before Christmas 2015 and paid the fee. Usually when I buy something on Etsy, I am given a tracking number for my purchases. The only thing different with this specific transaction was that the seller said "Thank you for your purchase" and nothing, no tracking but since it was a busy month I thought the tracking info would come in a separate email.
When the 15th came around I contacted the seller about the tracking and the fact that nothing was in the mail. The seller did not contact me. I realized that I had no control over the situation and that nothing was happening. Christmas came and went. I thought well maybe this item got caught in the mail but all I saw was a bogus email on the sellers actual Etsy shop site that said the item went out from California on December 7th, 2015. If this was true I would have had the lamp. At this time I decided it was time to open a case with Etsy.
I opened my case and emailed the seller, I also opened a case with Paypal. Nothing happened, the seller never contacted me. I got on Twitter to find out if I could tweet to Chad Dickerson, the CEO of Etsy, who has a FB page and a Twitter page. I emailed him. I also followed Etsy policy about emailing and having someone call back. I contacted Twitter via Etsy customer service VIA DM. I was frantic. In the meantime the Etsy team closed the case because all of a sudden the lamp arrived? The seller emailed me and said "just return it". At my EXPENSE? NO. I had been abused already. I tweeted, emailed, did everything I could to advise them. I this is based in principle and that. Why should I pay for a return? Really???
Finally Etsy, agreed and reimbursed me my money. I am appalled and this is the 3rd bad experience I have had on Etsy, and do not want to deal with them anymore so I closed my account. Customer service is severely lacking and I think it's the worst place to buy. I have had numerous experiences and Etsy, does not stand by the customer. When I complained in a forum they deleted my post. I will never shop with them again. I realize there are a lot of sellers who are great but there has to be another way and I am going to find it. They will not be getting my business anymore. My business with them goes back to 2009, 6 years. When they first opened bought so many items, got ripped off a few times but liked the site. They offer absolutely no assistance. Good bye and good riddance.

I ordered two shirts from Lindsay ** from the store LINDSxoPRESSES. I sent her my two designs to print on the shirts and she agreed. When I got the shirts, I was terrified. She completely changed my fonts and did not use my file! She also did not follow my placement diagram and made up her own. Lindsay's defense was how she thought the shirts looked nice and she stood behind the quality. Um... Who cares if the shirts are in good quality? The point is that she DID NOT follow my designs! If there were issues using my designs, she could have told me, but nope. No communication.
She initially offered me a full refund, and that she would send me a shipping label and I would ship the items back. However, then it occurred to her that I'm in Canada and she's in the USA, meaning she cannot create a shipping label. I quoted her the cost to ship back as per the Canada Post website. She immediately backed out of paying for shipping, and said if I want a full refund, I would have to pay for the returned shipping myself. How the heck is it fair? I asked for bread and she gave me fish, so why should I be out of money on the returned shipping? Since I would not ship the items back, she only gave me a partial refund, not the full.

We took them to a local retailer and this was verified. I tried to send the retail site emails. I was sent an email with a link for the seller but it didn't work. I sent several emails to the Etsy and they were never acknowledged. I understand there are different sellers but Etsy never contacted me concerning my requests. I ordered a handmade rustic table and bench from a seller on Etsy August 16, 2016. The guy who was making the furniture kept stalling and stalling with one excuse after another. Since the proceeds were going to a charity dealing with autism in Fresno, CA I had more patience than I would have normally. By the time the bench was shipped then the table top two weeks after it was already November and whatever recourse I had via Etsy was over. When the furniture arrived it was not the specs I had given him...none of it would fit in my small dining area. The seller refused to refund me saying "You got your table, now get lost." I filed a case with the Better Business Bureau but Etsy refused to reimburse me. Luckily I do have everything in writing because the seller would only communicate via text message.
Most recently, I found his father on Google+ and have spoken to him and exchanged emails. Still, no reimbursement of my $480.00 five months after paying the seller. Etsy does not protect their buyers like eBay does. This was a horrible and expensive lesson to learn! I thought "Wow, win-win...I get a cool table and bench and the proceeds go to charity." I was duped and so were other people on Etsy except they complained early enough and got their money back.

I ordered it on Jan. 20 and it finally came April 3. I ordered a regular crewneck sweater but they sent me a crop sweater. When I contacted the shop, I received a rude reply. For what I paid for, it really wasn't worth it. The owners handle business very unprofessionally. Waste of $40. Don't make my mistake. On top of that, many parts of the Etsy website don't work. Once again I have received an email from the Etsy gods telling me my account has been suspended. They mirror the email, as I can see here, that many vendors receive. Here we are, Christmas season, and obviously Etsy has received a complaint that an item wasn't handmade. Strangely enough there are other shops who have very similar items to mine and they are open.
It has been my experience that making a complaint to Etsy is an excellent way to knock out your competitors for weeks. This is not the first time I have been through this with Etsy. When I first opened the shop back in October 2012 the same thing happened and I was closed down for 5 weeks... all of December and the first week in January. I am very careful in how I post photos and they are nothing you wouldn't see displayed in a department store. That is not the case with many shops on Etsy and as long as no one plays snitch on the neighbor they can continue on.
I have been impatient I admit through these experiences with Etsy, however, we are now at the end of the rope. As a senior I cannot afford to have my income which often isn't much, however, it makes a difference to come to a halt at someone's whimsy. I was in convo with someone who wished to purchase a gift from my shop for Christmas and now cannot since it doesn't show the shop as existing. So much for spending my first year tweeting up to 8 hours per day to get the shop noticed. This year has been a bad consumer year and now this. We get to the point when divorce is necessary... even with Etsy. To add insult to injury when you are contacted by Etsy informing you that your whole shop has been suspended you are not told which item they are focusing on. In the past I found if you were able to verify the status of one item, they then chose another and another. The same with photos as I have a mature audience shop.

Etsy is a marketplace with specific policies about what can be sold, and we take these policies very seriously. All items for sale must fit into one of our three main categories - Handmade, Vintage, and Craft Supplies. Upon review of your account, we found the following non-qualifying items: Commercial or resold items listed in our Handmade category. All items that you list in our Handmade category must created by you, the seller, or a member of your shop. As a result of this, we are unable to approve your shop for selling on Etsy. We've been selling on Etsy for years. But this year we sold the most ever. I think 300 sales in 2 months. Everything was fine. But buyers began being... Finicky. Customers were writing in their notes things like "I need this in four days" (The shipping info is contained in our listings... Which are made to order and custom.) When the customer was contacted to rush the order... They never responded. If they received it in say 5 days... They'd write a bad review. Or lie about delivery. When it can be verified thru USPS. We even had a customer open a non delivery case when they received their item... Which was verified thru usps confirmation and the case was closed by etsy.
Several customers ordered handmade custom items and had them shipped to the wrong/old address. Usps delivery confirmation said... Addressee moved without a forwarding address and one the address was too old to forward. Both customers wanted another one sent to their correct addresses... Immediately. Not after receiving the package back to us... And resending. And they refused to pay additional shipping.
Both then filed non deliveries. We can only ship to the address the customer provides for seller protection. Both packages finally made it back to our shop and ready to reship. Listings were made for reshipping... But both customers refuse. Etsy has yet to decide. But has sent us warnings on how they will close our shop as we had too many nondeliveries.
The icing on the cake is a customer filed a non delivery. Before the ship date??? Why does Etsy system allow this??? Again... More threatening emails from Etsy. We explained to the customer on this that we cannot proceed with their custom order unless the customer closes the complaint because Etsy can side with the customer and we will be without product and money. Customer refused... So we had no choice but to refund. Then... More threatening emails from Etsy on how we have too many non deliveries and they can close us. Please do. We were recently accepted in Amazons handmade and are done with etsy and their crazy customers.

I sold a pretty brown wool blanket that had three brown bands dark to light at each end. I supplied 7 pictures total and stated to the buyer that the blanket was "completely out of square". The purchase was made on August 19th delivered on 0824. On September 2nd I received an email from the buyer asking for a refund because of the out of squareness and she stated "the vintage wool blanket had an odor". Given the buyer was made clearly aware of the out of squareness of the blanket and since I know the lengths I go to ensuring the cleanliness and freshness of my linens. Whatever odor it had was very minor and associated with what is to be expected with the purchase of a vintage wool blanket. For these lukewarm reasons I denied the refund but did offer a store credit for the amount of the purchase.
So the buyer's first email was on 0902, and my reply was on 0903. The next I hear from the buyer is seven days after my reply on 0910. In this email the buyer writes quite a bit of information about how she is entitled to a refund, and disputing the possible fixes I had posed in the prior email before she states matter of factly that the blanket has a hole in it and is moth eaten. She then goes on to tell me all the ways she can destroy me with bad reviews, creating something called a "case" with Etsy, of which I knew nothing about. She wraps up the email giving me the two options she has chosen to offer me to obtain the one resolution acceptable to her, a refund. She states "we can do this the easy way or the hard way". So before I even know what's going on, I learn that I have been found guilty by Etsy of selling an item that differs significantly from the item listed, and I am being bullied by Etsy to refund the buyer.
The buyer obviously familiar with how Etsy cases work since she knew the terminology enjoyed private conversations with the arbitrator to explain how side of the dispute, whereas I had NO opportunity to speak with him one on one AT ALL before or after the case was decided. It was painfully obvious how biased The Drew Character was against me judging by how I was railroaded and shut out with no compunction whatsoever. Without being given any information my store was semi-shut down approx 24 hours later.
Because of the lack of any regulatory involvement or any common sense or professional business people at the helm, Etsy finds it perfectly fair and reasonable to hear one side of a dispute and then make a judgement. Consequently, the buyer neglects to tell the ignorant of how to conduct a fraud investigation or arbitrate a dispute arbitrator Drew that she only reported damage to the blanket after her refund request was denied. That she managed to somehow forget to include in her original refund request email that I committed a very serious offense, guaranteed to result in a refund, the selling of a concealed damaged item.
She also neglected to or lied that she had the blanket from August 24th until September 10th to complain about the blanket with a hole in it and moth damage that I had bold faced lied to her about it being in "breech and blemish" free. All she complained about originally was about an odor and its out of squareness that she was told about presale. Nor did she point out that it wasn't until eight days after her first email about the refund request did she mention the damage halfway through this 2nd email, 17 days after having the blanket did she complain about damage.
In the time after the determination was made I entered all the facts committed by the buyer to expose how things really went down. Drew advised thanks for the info and the pics but it's not going to make us reconsider doing any investigating into your stated facts. Drew also stated several times that if I did not refund the buyer by 1015 Etsy was going to refund the buyer. Once I replied "yes, Etsy IS going to have to refund the buyer because it's not coming out of my pocket". Well somehow "Etsy is going to pay the buyer" was code for "we are going to forcibly refund the buyer by taking money out of your checking account without your knowledge or permission". I kid you not. By doing this I was overdrafted $40.
The best part is that when the buyer sees the FACTS I've entered into the case and she decides to address why she waited eight days after she reports two different not refund worthy issues before reporting the blanket had damage. She says she waited to report the damage because she had no idea I was going to escalate the issue like I had and that she was just trying to do what she could to protect my shop reputation hoping not to have to write a bad review. Also she obviously feels far superior that us, narcissism goes hand and hand with sociopathy. So yep here I am. I only now know the futile nature of my relationship with Etsy getting back on track and that operating at this exceptionally low level of business conduct is how they choose to go system wide, my situation is not a one-off. Their sellers are rude and charge way over shipping cost to ship items out 7 days from your purchased item. That's what happened to me. Not only that they were rude about it when I inquired about it. Etsy seems to hide from the customers too. You can't convo them unless you open a case. Sellers should not be allowed to pick and choose their shipping date. They should have a time limit and Etsy should have a customer service department.

I purchased a pair of $250 pink emerald handcrafted earrings. At least I think they were pink emerald, but I am not certain now, as the stones faded from a light peach to cloudy white. I did a little research on gemology forums and blogs, and read varying information about pink emerald and how it fades when exposed to sunlight. I contacted the seller and asked her if the earrings were heat-treated and explained that they had faded noticeably and lost color and should I have expected this, and not have worn them in the daytime?
She referred to 'internet rumors' of this gemstone fading and said she really didn't understand what I was asking. It seemed that she was unaccountably dismissive and rather unhelpful. At this point I thought it fair to leave a review detailing my experience (not only this correspondence and the gems losing luster and color, but that when I received the earrings, one of the gemstones fell out of the setting, so I had to return it to her for repair). I am not pleased with this purchase, and I am not happy that I cannot leave a review as it's been over 60 days. A 60-day window for a review is a complete joke, as it does not take into account durability of what should be durable item.
If this were an isolated negative experience I would not have come here to complain, but this was the most expensive purchase that did not meet my expectations. I have purchased less expensive items that fell apart, but IMO, a $250 pair of earrings should be quality and these were not. I believe that ETSY is a scam and I advise everyone not to buy from this site as there is not enough customer support. Reading these complaints, it seems that there is not enough support for sellers, either. All around a bad experience for EVERYONE.

I purchased a $328 bag from a seller in Italy via Etsy. The bag was handmade, leather, and SUPPOSED to be high quality. I bought the bag for a trip to Europe and Africa. Before I even made it out of the US, the bag started to rip. I took all non-essentials out of the bag and basically had a wallet and passports and phone in the bag even though it is a huge purse/overnight bag. I sent the seller pics while at JFK getting ready to board the plane. He apologized and asked for me to send it back to fix. He assured me it would not break completely. When I landed in Spain about 8 hours later, I was waiting for my luggage to come down the carousel and picked up my bag, and the strap came off completely. I barely had anything in it and it had a big hole where the strap was. Again, I emailed the seller, he apologized and asked me to return the bag.
I explained that I would be out of the country for a few weeks and would send it upon my return to the US but now I was going to have to buy another purse as I only brought one bag and was without one. I tried to send the bag from Italy near the end of my trip but was on a limited time schedule and I don't speak Italian and was only there for 3 days (2 of which were the weekend). Also, I heard some horror stories about the mail system in Italy and didn't feel comfortable sending an expensive item especially without speaking the language and not be able to explain how and where I wanted it sent. When I got back to the US, I sent the bag back registered and insured. It took a while in Italian customs to get to the seller but eventually did. Since I could track it, I knew the seller received it but after about 3-4 days he had not notified me so I wrote to see if he, in fact, got it.
He said he had but now suddenly he said he needed to calculate the fees to send me the bag initially, to pick it up from customs AND his ETSY fees, and then would give me the difference. I immediately replied that I did not think that was fair as I returned the bag due to no fault of my own and that I should be refunded the full amount and the $49 I paid to return it.
Long story short, I started a case with Etsy and it's been a nightmare. It's like I'm a criminal defense lawyer for myself. The seller has made all kinds of accusations and lies. He even claims the item arrived back him soaking wet, even though he NEVER mentioned this to me. If it arrived ruined (which I know it did not) and he told me I could have filed a claim with USPS as I sent it registered and insured. The USPS stated that every person who touched the bag had to sign for it.
Etsy support/help have been useless so far. They basically have said that if the seller doesn't want to issue a refund they cannot make him. So now I'm out almost $400 and have NOTHING and he has ALL my money PLUS the bag. Also, Etsy has all their fees. So, I am the only one who is out. This is the worst shopping experience I have ever had. I will not be using Etsy again and will be telling everyone I know to stay away as well. How is it right that Etsy and the seller have all my money/goods and I have nothing?!

This is very disappointing. Amazon has done something right by giving you fast shipping and great customer service with communication which Etsy does not have. Etsy has truly horrible customer service. Although I love their items, the only way to contact them is through an email or to open "a case" on their site. You are not allowed to "open a case" about an item until a month's time after your purchase. I have ordered two items through Etsy now, been charged from them, contacted the seller, and still did not receive my items on time. This company has grown large enough by now to at least have a 1-800 customer support number. I will not be doing business with them again and do not recommend purchasing anything through them. However, you cannot request customer support, a return phone call, or even contact the seller without the correct email. You cannot get a password reset, or even change your email because the original email is wrong and it is impossible to change.
It is a vicious circle and there is no way to correct it via their website or contact Etsy to correct it because it will keep sending the resets to the NON-EXISTENT email. I have no way of informing them of this. Etsy has one of the worst customer support systems on the planet, and with the volume of business that runs through there, they should be investigated by the FTC for their failure to provide adequate consumer support. I opened my Etsy store, Vintage Vixen's Attic years ago. I had used the name in the early 1990s in some brick and mortar stores in NJ. Last week I got a email from the owner of Vintage Vixen Clothing complaining I was infringing on her trademark, which dates from what I saw from 2015, well after my usage began. She rudely claimed I had one week to change MY name. The 2 names are not the SAME - do not show up in the same google search of each name and no reviews have been posted claiming anyone has been confused between the 2 names. Her store has 4k listings, mine 30. Hers is a typical retail vintage store, where mine PLAINLY states mine is to sell off the estate of my aunt, who was a Broadway actress in the 1920's. Really, anyone confused here?
When I told her that I felt her demand was out of line and wrong and refused, plus informed her that due to being elderly and dealing with an illness that I was closing my shop in 2 weeks at the end of the month, she insisted she had the right to demand I change it in a week. I refused, as this would make it impossible for my customers to find me. She decided to act like a bully and complain to Etsy. Etsy sent me a notice saying there had been a complaint and I had one week to change my shop name. Seems they don't care who is right, only who complains first. I asked their legal dept to look into this to insure this person had a valid claim and was told they do not do this and can't give any legal opinion, just act on the complaint regardless of merit. Guess when you are paying fees on 4k plus listings, you have a lot more rights than when you have 30.

I mean, are you serious? I opened my store on April and you saw that now? Last but not least, a month ago, I check my Etsy bill and I realise that they had charged me 10 euros without a reason. I send a message to customer care to ask why and NO ONE ANSWER, although I paid the bill! Then I asked them if I can to open a new one with handmade peelings. Here is their answer:
To clarify, since your selling privileges have been suspended in this account for violating our policies, you may not create any new Etsy accounts, regardless of the content of the shop. Any new shops that are opened will be suspended without notice. We are unable to reconsider this decision, and this email constitutes our final communication on this matter.
Will make them really rich. PAY ATTENTION GUYS: DO NOT OPEN A SHOP ON ETSY, AND IF YOU WANT TO BUY SOMETHING, CONTACT THE SELLER FOR ANOTHER PAYMENT METHOD. Don't make Etsy rich. They are for the garbage!

They claim that my rating are below standard, 5.41% of your transactions had defects. A months ago, 12% of my transactions had defects and I call them to appeal of how so many unreasonable reason of why so many item end up in my transaction defect report that badly damage my seller rating? They Claim that whenever buyer opens a dispute item end up in defective report until issues are resolve. I try to reason and appeal to them that money has been full refunded, buyer gets to kept the items. Buyer claim item not received because my item listing shipping time frame not yet met and how is that even consider defective items. Guess what they say? They say sometime the system has error.. LOL!
Issues has been resolve and they did remove few of the items in the defective reports which lower my transaction defective items to 5.43%. When I check again in seller dashboard, two of them items are suppose to be removed because issue has been resolve with the buyer, never removed it and that's how my rating stuck at 5.43% defective items. The Day they Close my account without warning by saying "eBay expect seller to have to defective items below 5% in order to sell on eBay." Now if they remove two of the unreasonable items, that would bring the rating down 5%. Are you people seeing what's going on? How deceiving they are, the kinds of excuse after excuses to remove seller's account when you try to reason with them. Unbelievable indeed!
At the Same time, My Etsy account was removed along with eBay, Haha! Wow, Unbelievable by saying I am not allow to sell DVD in the handmade department when I actually listed in the craft other's made that allow any item to be sold. You can check Etsy's terms of service. I try to email Etsy to give me a call regarding why they close my account, no return phone. Can you believe that? They claim I am not allow to sell DVD yet so many DVD items for sale on Etsy in all department and Why me? I didn't scam, mistreat buyers, Refund to buyer if item not received, courtesy. I couldn't think of any reason why they would close my account. I pay their fees and listing fees accordingly. If DVD is not allow to sold on Etsy then Etsy should remove all DVD sellers right? But Why Me? Something fishy is really going on.
Then I found out that eBay and Etsy are sister company. Seems like they are acting like dictator with any excuse to close anyone's account as they feel fit, unbelievable. Ebay Break all kinds of TOS, So many of their representative are not even aware of their own Terms of service guideline. Sometime seller knows more about their policy than the people working there. Sometime you asked the question, they don't even know how to answer you, twist and turn for excuse, sounds more like program machine.
Both eBay and Etsy Close at the same time and days, Wow... LOL! I must really scam and cheated eBay for this kinds of without warning suspension behavior right folks or it could be some powerful people on the top that dislike someone that speak against them or try to reason with them. I am just speculating, You tell me folks! Do I deserve this kind of treatment? Who are these eCommerce big boys to state that we the seller are a risk to their business and while they break all the TOS and get away with it. If it's weren't for sellers, who's going to buy from them?

I am here to tell you about my Etsy experience both as a seller and as a buyer. I have been selling on Etsy since it started. It literally changed my life, and the lives of so many others. I have to apologize TO EVERYONE on this feed who has been outright beat by Etsy sellers. However, I am noticing, that a lot of the things people are complaining about are not very creative items, and sort of run of the mill craft. Like rag banners, flamingo cake toppers, and Walmart fleece accent pillows. There are so many amazing unique items on Etsy. I spent years thinking up designs that would stand out in this marketplace. I wanted items that would have a low impact on the environment and huge impact on the customers life.
I am a seller who has sold nearly 2000 items. BUT!!! My feedback turnout has been about 50%. A lot of my buyers are from Google, and those people are usually one timers. But, I even have them coming back raving about my shop. If I cannot get my supplies locally, I have an account where I purchase my supplies from other Etsians. I have NEVER had a bad incident to date and I have been purchasing since approx 2008. There are VERY good dedicated shops on Etsy. But, even like any other website or even marketplace, you MUST do your research as a buyer. If you feel that want a little bit of extra protection, then you even have the option to checkout using Paypal. BECAUSE PAYPAL will most certainly get you your money.
I am human, and I ship, I have had a couple of things break in transit. I have never made my customers wait for their money, or fight for a dispute. I love my shop and value my customer. For me I feel that this experience has enriched my life so I show gratuity for my customer. Seeing these reviews truly saddens me after dedicating years to selling in this marketplace. But I assure new customers, if you do a small amount of research, and looking at key information right in the shop you want to buy from you can easily spot the good sellers. And I guarantee there are MORE GOOD SELLERS THAN THERE ARE BAD ONES LURKING.
Etsy proactively goes after shops. Once there is a complaint put in, you are given a reasonable amount of time to fix the situation, or the seller risks losing their shop. Look at the amount of sales the store has and compare this to the amount of feedback. Read the feedback, and go back a few pages or read it all. Look around on Social Media. History will usually help you identify the good sellers. I just want to point out, this same thing can happen anywhere. It can happen on Amazon. It can happen on a private website. I have had a horrible experience dealing with a website that appeared to be reputable, and it wound up being an individual with a professional looking website, and in this case, there was no feedback or records of sales to rely on.
We as shoppers have a responsibility to make educated purchases also. If you shop from Etsy you should look for quality items, GOOD HANDMADE Things are NOT cheap. If it seems too good to be true, it's a good indicator that the seller is either desperate or unsure about their skills. Like I said, I am sorry that these shoppers had this experience. I wish they had found our shop. Don't write off Etsy, because Etsy was founded by good, dedicated people like myself and I believe we make up a majority of this marketplace.

Etsy has no ground for business owners when it comes to complaints from customers. They tell you to put up store policies, that they will abide by the shop policy. This is NOT the case! Prime example, we had some people purchase custom furniture from us. Right away custom orders have no refund. The products shipped, one arrived damaged. All of our packages are insured for full value. The customer wanted to get a refund. We explained that the refund would not happen. The package was insured and to have Fedex pay them for the problem.
They kept persisting for weeks. We offered to remake the table, and even ship a product for free just to cool the waters. They refused, demanding a full refund. Etsy got involved and issued a full refund to the customer, $700 we were out for the order + materials and shipping for the goods they received. So we were out over $1200 just because Etsy would not stand behind the store policies and shop owners. SHAME ON ETSY AND THE PEOPLE THAT WORK IN THAT DEPARTMENT.

My custom order plush came just prior to Christmas 2015, a true miracle considering I had given up on it ever arriving (it was ordered Aug 2014). It was accompanied by an apologetic note from the seller and a free plushie given in good faith. I really did appreciate this gesture. Each plush was individually and lovingly wrapped.
I am very happy with the quality of the materials and the workmanship. I understand that it was a more complicated job than usual as it was a custom plush, but I would have been less enraged with the wait had the delay been communicated by the seller earlier.
Overall, just glad I didn't get ripped off in the end!

Etsy ruled that the POST was at fault! And again did nothing for me. They are thieves the whole lot of them and I am closing my account with Etsy. Go Ebay! This is not a secure place to buy! They will not help you trust me. It was 2 weeks of pure hell.
Updated on 08/19/2015: Seller said she was sorry and wanted to issue refund. She agreed at first to a full refund, then a day later she said sorry she didn't have the money to do full refund. Then I had to involve the Etsy resolve team because she refused me a full refund. I had screenshots of her conversation where she admitted 4 different times the box was too large but she had to make some money on this deal and it was insane for me to ask for full refund! Etsy trust and safety are worthless! After all the evidence I showed them with screenshots and pictures of the box and item, they side with her because she proved she mailed item to me. What?! That was all she had to do and they blamed my postal service for messing up package.
Week later I bought similar item from eBay from Belgium and guess what? Got here just fine - packaged great - delivered by same postal service. THis gal in France ripped me off! SHe wanted me to spend 73 more dollars to ship it back then she would issue full refund but not the 73 it cost me to ship back. How nuts is that? No support, Etsy sides with this dishonest crook. Will never shop there again. Had to open case with my CC to get the rest of my money as Paypal was only able to obtain a little over half. Still left me 50 short. Never do business on here. Got to EBAY!

In mid-June I have purchased a handmade pillow from Etsy shop BlanketsByNaomi. The shop didn't state any specific shipping policies listed so I assumed it would take maybe a couple of days to ship it. Turned out that with Etsy, you can't assume. The seller lied to Etsy by stating that the pillow was shipped on the 7th of July. According to the USPS website, it was shipped a week later. I finally received said pillow ONE MONTH after having paid for it.
The pillow has finally arrived, in a grease-stained box. It wasn't even wrapped or enclosed in a plastic bag, none of the above. The workmanship was of a poor quality. Imagine a white-and-pink fabric sewn with a dark thread, done by hand. The dark thread was popping out all over. On one side, the pillow was sewn to close, again by hand and with the same thread, from the outside. The filling was uneven that contributed to the odd shape of the product. It looked horrible.
In retrospect, I remembered that the listing had only one picture displayed; the description stated "handmade." At the time of purchase I assumed that a sewing machine and a matching thread would be used in the pillow production. Nothing can be further from the truth. The picture posted in the listing was obviously not of the actual pillow that I finally received.
I went back to the listing and read the seller's Return Policy. It stated something about exchange within 7 days. Why in the world would the seller think that I wanted yet another sloppy product? After this pillow experience, I don't want anything from this shop. I want my money back. The seller didn't cooperate so I had no other choice as to reluctantly escalate my disappointment. I filed a Not As Described case on Etsy site that has gotten me precisely nowhere. The case was decided in my favor yet no money in sight. Then I filed same with PayPal, with the same effect. Only when I filed a chargeback with the credit card I paid for said pillow, I did receive my money back.
FYI: should you have a bad experience with an Etsy seller, you can simultaneously file a case, leave a negative feedback aka review, and file a chargeback. Yes to all of the above, done consecutively. My opinion: I will never buy anything handmade from Etsy. Should you decide to go ahead & buy anyway, you'd be taking chances.

I ordered a high chair banner for my daughter's 1st birthday from StrangersAndPilgrims via Etsy. The photo on the site appeared pink and white. When I received the item in the mail it was not the same colors. I contacted the shop and communicated this with her and she requested a photo be sent of the product. (The top photo is the shop's picture and the bottom is the photo I took once out of the package.) When I did, she did not see any difference. I then reached out to my personal social media account and was flooded with people telling me indeed the products were very different.
She does not have any sort of return policy listed on her site and when asked for a refund she refused stating that if I paid for it to be mailed back to her she would meet me in the middle and fix it. However, I thought the entire banner needed to be redone. After asking her several more times for a refund she refused over and over stating that she was going over and beyond customer service by fixing something she didn't even think needed to be fixed. I found this business owner to be completely unprofessional. I cannot even leave a response/review on the product to warn others of what they might be getting themselves into.

First order according to UPS could not be delivered because of an address problem. Unfortunately I made a second order before I received the first then my problems started when I had to deal with the owner of the shop. This guy was a real jerk. He went on to criticize my displeasure with him that I had emotional problems and did not know how to address an envelope - none which was true.
My opinion - this was the worst experience of my life when it came to ordering a small product on the Internet. Bottom line - I finally got my problem to resolve but I had to get PayPal involved and when I finally jump through enough hoops with Etsy I finally got my money returned due to no help from customer service. You have to email them then after filling out a lengthy form wait on a call back from their customer service department. No way to get directly a hold of them over the phone - just a joke. Had to make over 20 emails to seller and customer service bowl to finally get my money back.
I'm going to probably have to get a new email address because seller continues to harass me. Beware. You might have an experience like I did with some nut that has your address and email. Very disappointed. Will never purchase another item through this company. Canceled my account but they told me when I cancel the account will not block any emails. Again beware of this rip off.

I emailed Etsy to say I was very disappointed in the quality of it for the money I had paid for it. I was told to wipe it with soap and water which would help. There was no change in it after I had done this. I am very upset and disappointed in this item and would strongly advise people not to buy it. Finally, Flinn responded, said that the shoes were 'returned to sender' again - this is impossible in Australia, because parcel delivery pick up warrants a number of notifications/reminders and I never even received one. I purchase online often and have never had this problem.
After being ignored again for weeks and weeks, Flinn finally responded and she said they refunded my money on PayPal, however this also never happened. I am unable to leave review on the store page to warn others and Etsy Support have done nothing to assist me. Now, the store are RESELLING the shoes that I purchased and never paid for! She had numerous open orders which she abandoned after they shut her down. I have been open less than a year and did not have the funds to refund her customers to hope they would reopen my account.
They are now holding funds hostage so I cannot even close my shop. I am totally screwed and my all 5 star customers now think I did something wrong. I cannot believe this is legal even though they say they can shut you down for any reason. Just because they put it in a contract does not mean it is legal. Saying something in a contract does not supersede consumer or supreme court law. They also kept all of my just renewed fees. After several emails, Etsy management stepped in halfway into the case. I had to open a 2nd case through Paypal to finally get my money back.
What was worse was that Bar argent continued to sell that fake silver bracelet under that "Napier" heading with no penalty or investigation from Etsy. Bar argent hand makes their silver jewelry so they are very aware of the metal content. Etsy's policy says that if a case is not resolved in 365 days, then Etsy will refund the money! Etsy has guidelines for categories that it applies in haphazard manner. They "ban" metaphysical items, yet allow them. How does that work? Who knows? Etsy acts Gestapo like and closes some sites down, while allowing others to remain open that are in violation, not only of Etsy, but of U.S. Dept Of Health & Human Services and other agencies, when a metaphysical seller does not include a legally mandated disclosure, such as: "This item is sold only to those 18 yrs. or older and for entertainment purposes only. No medical claims are made that would violate or supercede a physicians diagnosis."
These are legal requirements Etsy ignores. Their customer service is abysmal and their policies allow illegal claims, items and their customer service is extremely poor, unresponsive, and their management and staff seem totally out of touch, both legally and ethically with the common legal requirements and they act with discriminatory ability that amounts to throwing out some, allowing others to operate openly when the violations are in most cases, much worse. One day, I was unceremoniously shut down for selling a plain, blue kraft bag. Yes. A plain blue bag. At the time of the shut down, I had 26 open orders and $782 in my payment account from orders I'd received over the weekend. Etsy has not sent my money leaving me without money to ship my orders or buy supplies.
They have no problem taking their average of $400 a month they made from my fees, but are holding my hard earned money hostage. Do not sell on Etsy. Open your store on your own site. I got a hold of the vendor the next morning and they assured me they would cancel one of the orders and refund my card. Words cannot express how upset I am at Etsy. I have been a seller on their site for almost 3 years and have 5 out of 5 star ratings. Today, I have discovered that they had suspended my account for not being in compliance with their rules... that my items were NOT handmade. Well, when I first started selling on Etsy, their definition of handmade included anything that had energy work added to it. I also do hand make 99% of my items and add energy work to 100% of them, so I still am technically in compliance. Anyways, upon receiving the email of all my listings suspended, I asked for a return of the insertion fees (over $22 as I had over 100 items listed for sale), and they had responded that they do not give refunds to items that are not in compliance with their rules (which all are still technically).
So basically, they change their rules and hide behind an invalid reason as to why they get to keep your money, which is still technically THEFT and FRAUD. I am disappointed beyond words. I put so much hard work into my shop as a lot of other sellers have, only to have what I have left, stolen from me under, in their eyes, a "justifiable" reason. There is also no number to call them directly for customer support, as you have to request a call from them. Even so, the call is from a different branch of Etsy and only relay messages to the person who suspended the account.

Etsy has compromised their original integrity and values. I first discovered Etsy around 2010, which coincided with me deciding to redecorate my apt. with only custom and handmade items. I had a wonderful experience as a buyer. Everyone was making unique awesome stuff, the sellers were courteous. It was a joy to participate in the design of custom-made items. I loved Etsy! Fast forward to 2015. I rarely buy anything from Etsy. It's a hassle to sift through all the sub-par items and find the true gems. Their search functions, well, suck! I have never had a negative experience as a buyer. I do have an Etsy store to this date has made $23. Yeah! But it's more like my creative outlet. Some of my posts in the forums were removed mainly because I called out the low tier stores reselling stuff from China and the obvious copyright and trademark infringers. And I did not even call them out by name.
I also have written more than once that Etsy will tank when Amazon Handmade launches. Now many of the shops in my favorites aren't there anymore. They have closed up shop and gone elsewhere. The real true honest craftspeople and artisans are LEAVING! The people who built Etsy. Etsy bites the hand that feeds it. And to Chad Dickerson, Etsy is/was more than just Etsy's API and platform. Without the people, what good is the platform? Dickerson talks the talk, if you watch interviews with him, but he clearly doesn't walk the walk. I researched it. Dickerson's Etsy stock is valued at around 71 million dollars (I guess that's if the stock doesn't tank before he can cash out). People who understand integrity and values know that compromising them is not an option. And they are cognizant of what happens if you do.

After trying several times, the site kept doing this, and I had maaaany items that had expired recently. At first it took Etsy four days to send a reply, which did not help; almost like they did not read the e-mail. Over the three or so weeks I sent a few other pleas for help, as my customers could not see almost 100 of my items; and they obviously would not have been able to purchase them.
The last person to "help" did reply once a day, however, she did not solve the problem. Her last e-mail said the problem was no longer an issue, when she had not solved a thing, not even crediting my account for several items that had been renewed twice, due to this technical difficulty. My last contact with ** asked her to forward my request for help to a manager or to send my phone number, since she was unable to solve the issue. I have not heard anything more.

Once I realized it I emailed all three of the sellers with a change of address. Two of them answered immediately and shipped their items to my new address. One of the sellers was **. She never called me at all even after 9 days and 3 emails until I engaged ETSY's support system and she responded immediately (sarcastically) and told me she would not sell me the item I had purchased and was giving me a full refund. She made that decision she said because in my last email I told her I felt she was neither responsible nor professional.
She had been listed as having sent the item but with no details so I had to assume that she had sent the item to the wrong address and needed to figure how to resolve the problem. Stopping the sale on her part is in my mind a cop-out. She wrote that she had had a family emergency that prevented her from contacting me. I've had my own practice for many years and even when there were acute problems in my personal life my business still had to be on the front burner. I owed that to my clients. She flooded my reviews with this utter nonsense. I had many positive reviews from this woman so it was obvious she was only trying to make trouble. I contacted Etsy with email proof that she was attempting to get me to go around them and they would not even reply back. They refused to remove her nasty, slanderous reviews.
I am shutting down my shop and would not advise anyone to sell for Etsy. Sellers are not treated fairly. There is no customer service. They will not get back with you when you have a problem. They allow buyers to bully sellers. Buyers can flag shops and have them removed for no reason. There are thousands of items that violate Etsy's policies that are offered for sale and never removed. Items and shops are only removed when buyers or rival sellers unfairly flag them because Etsy's workers are too lazy to do their jobs. If you have a problem, no one will help you. It's pathetic. I would definitely recommend eBay over Etsy any day. Etsy's selling fees are also higher than eBay's.
