eBay has just about everything for sale you can think of and more. This site gives the opportunity to sell and buy without leaving your home. Allows buyers and sellers a safe and secure platform to buy and sell around the world. eBay guarantees purchases. I have been a member since 2007, with no problems selling or with purchases. Overall a great experience.

I've had good and bad experience with eBay sellers. However this one is specific for seller named ANNASFACTORY which is a top rated seller. annasfactory. Located: Staten Island, NY, United States. Member since: Nov 15, 2012. Positive Feedback: 100%. In short: She sent me the wrong item (US to CH). eBay rule: if it's the seller's mistake, they need to refund the return shipping as well. I asked her and she confirmed 'only first class shipment'. When I told her that in Switzerland the cost is x CHF, she then said CHOOSE THE CHEAPEST (yes I got capital letters here and there). Item arrived to her but I heard nothing. Messaged her and she said she is waiting for eBay. I called eBay, who then confirmed that seller REFUSED to refund.
In the end eBay forced her to refund my item (good idea to pay with PayPal). HOWEVER. eBay apparently remove my negative feedback for her store. So that makes me wonder, how many other negative feedbacks were removed? Here's her message to me after the feedback was removed in Ebay: "Good try. Your negative is gone. Keep trying harder you might succeed." So much class.

On eBay I can usually find the items I want at great prices but shipping is usually a hassle. Often the items I order do not arrive by the estimated time and trying to track the shipment has proven to be difficult. The customer service has always been great as far as assisting with returns. Overall eBay is about average in comparison to other online retailers.

This is why I enjoy it, it has the common and the uncommon. Purchasing is easy as well as having the eBay quality of service, it is all good.

I have used eBay occasionally when they have items I can't find elsewhere. I find eBay more difficult to use than Amazon in general. I only had a problem with a purchase once but eBay wasn't at all helpful in resolving it, so I stick to small ticket items.

eBay erroneously billed me for their commission of merchandise they alleged I sold through them. Wouldn't correct the problem and insisted I owed the money. I had to hire an attorney to write eBay a letter before they would stop harassing me. I closed my account and will not do business with them again.

This was the second time I tried selling a bike on eBay. I should have learned from the first time, but I was in a desperate need to bring in some money. A "buyer" on eBay paid the money via Paypal and as soon as I notified him that I had shipped the bike, he put in a request for refund. I was stunned. He said that I had not advertised the bike correctly and I knew he was out to get my bike and his money back. Thank God I was able to intercept the bike via USPS but this cost me more money and I actually paid $70 of the shipping for the "buyer." Even after all of this happened, I called eBay, sent multiple messages, they refunded the "buyer" and even refunded him the shipping. Then, they said that I still owe them the seller fees of $43.
This is a very dangerous website and it needs to be shut down. Please do NOT sell on eBay. This is the second bike I lost money selling. The first bike I sold was a $3000 road bike, less than one year old. The "buyer" said after he received the bike that it had more scratches than I had said in the ad. He wanted $400 off the bike! I told him no and to send the bike back. Well, he sent it back and the frame of my bike was cracked!!! It cost me $400 to repair and I lost the shipping money as well. eBay would do nothing as they said I signed for the package. I hope all sellers are reading this and refuse to do business with this fraudulent company.

I have never ventured into the "selling" end of the pool with these folks as just too many restrictions for the genre of product I might be willing to sell. I can find relationships elsewhere with Benz centric people with vast amounts of product knowledge not generally found here. There very well may be some but perhaps not spent enough time searching and or cultivating. On the "BUY" side of things, I have been far more successful in multiple genres of merchandise in a spectrum from auto parts to specific m's casual sportswear. I know what I am looking for with a reasonable understanding of the quality/value relationship of the product (s) and pay almost instantly at the completion of the auction or whatever the buying proposition might be.
Seller ratings are very important so I respond in kind for a job well right down to the packing materials if they were over and above securing the item of purchase. It shows commitment to the transaction and in my opinion commitment should be rewarded in kind. The flip side is that I do use PayPal for all my purchases which does afford me some means of protection in the event the purchase goes south or the seller is found be wanting whether it's description, condition and or delivery time. Think I have only gone to Pay Pal arbitration once in ten years so a very good average on say a hundred or so units. By and large a happy Ebay BUYER.

I have been a buyer and seller on eBay for over 5 1/2 years. I have purchased goods for over thousands of dollars with them. Recently, I came across a potential criminal seller. They did not send me the item I ordered, but instead sent me a poisonous/toxic anthrax paper. They admitted to it through our messages, and said it was not meant to go to me. I advised eBay, & spent 2 hours of my time on the phone, while they transferred me from department to department. They never resolved my issue. They never suspended the seller's account. 2 supervisors claimed to have reported them but each time I get transferred they tell me that no one reported them.
I asked for a courtesy credit because of this inconvenience, possibility that my husband and I might get infected (it takes days to weeks to catch the infection), & they denied that too. They did NOTHING to keep me happy or resolve my issue. And for that, I will be closing my account. I do NOT recommend ebay.com. Poor customer service to say the least!

We sent a printer and monitor to eBay Valet to be sold on eBay. We had the items packaged by eBay Valet's FedEx pack and ship service. The monitor was rejected and returned to us by the eBay Expert Seller for "residue on screen". The "residue" on the monitor is some substance that was spilled on the screen either in transit or by the Expert Seller - the monitor was clean when we originally had it packaged at FedEx. The printer was also returned to us for not being testable due to shipment without cartridges... after eBay's own shipping service instructions specified that it must be shipped without cartridges.
To add insult to injury... actually, to be accurate, injury to insult... eBay Valet's seller returned the electronics to us in inadequate packaging - worn, unmarked boxes which split in transit, and flimsy bubble wrap totally inadequate for protection of heavy, delicate electronics. Neither box was marked "Fragile" or "Handle with care," or any other marking to indicate they contained electronics, and thus both were dumped haphazardly on our doorstep, the printer on its end. We originally sent both items in secure electronics boxes packed by FedEx staff.
The printer was returned to us in a sloppy single layer of bubble wrap. The printer housing is cracked in several places, control housing hanging off, and small inner pieces falling out, plus soaked by rain coming in the damaged box. When we sent them, both items were clean, tested as working, and in good condition. Now both items are damaged and unsellable, due to packing negligence and mishandling while in the "care" of eBay Valet's Expert Seller. Definitely not what we had bargained for. We would have done better to keep the electronics in our non-expert but diligent care!

I have been with eBay 15 years. 100% feedback. Mainly a buyer, but I have sold items in the past even cars, but NOW all of a sudden I sold an item 30 days ago for $220 my money was received instantly. I was happy. Good, fast, happy transaction, so decided to sell something else. I posted some shoes and got it sold for $43 + 13 shipping. And now when I went to shipping no money available, so when I called they "Your funds are pending in PayPal for up to 21 days."
This sucks... On top of the fact that they get 10% of what you sell, they have the gall to hold your money and what upsets me is without warning when posting, the least they can do is have a red alert when posting stating that my account will have a hold... And then I would not of been so upset. In the end I called and nothing, they see me black and white, they don't see the big picture of my case and what I am asking or saying, they just say that is a rule and "I am sorry." LET ME JUST SAY they lost a buyer, I will never buy from eBay again!! Nor sell. Very disappointed. It's better to use other free local service to sell. This one has no CUSTOMER SERVICE... Or customer appreciation!! To them you are just a number not a value customer that they want to make happy.

It is fun to bid on items and get interesting purchases. However, you are at the mercy of the sellers to accurately represent items and send with adequate packaging. Although most sellers give accurate descriptions and good pictures, and answer questions about products, unfortunately sometimes items are not in condition described or shipped with poor packaging and arrive damaged. Then most sellers do not offer returns so if there is a problem you are either stuck with item and sometimes an adjustment or even though a seller's site states no returns they will not give a refund unless you return item at your expense. But Customer Service can be helpful as well as resolution process if seller is willing. When it is good, it is very good and when bad it is awful.

SO they are illegal (I do not see what legislation can accept that someone (buyer) keeps the products and gets his money back.... while the seller lost his products and the cash for it), their practices unfair and immoral, and they try operate legit hiding under that "policy" lie!
Customer support poor, always have to call them... wait and have someone tell you that they totally understand "your frustration" but that they cannot do anything for you. Why? Because that is the policy. EBAY SHILL BIDDING COMPLAINTS - 19 ITEMS I SUPPOSEDLY PURCHASED INITIATED JUNE 23, 2017. STILL NO RESOLUTION JULY 31, 2017. When I suddenly won 13 items, all of which I had been outbid on, I knew something was wrong. I called and spoke to a woman who told me this was "shill bidding," a term I had never ever heard before. Since June 23, 2017, I have called eBay at 866-540-3229 on three separate occasions spending over ten hours on the phone reporting eBay sellers in India who are consistently using shill bidding to inflate the price that buyers pay. On June 23rd, they did this to me on 13 items. In less than a week, they claimed I won six other items that I had been outbid on. I have told the buyers that shill bidding is illegal. I told them I had already discussed this at length with eBay.
Still these sellers intimidated me by issuing unpaid item reports. I reluctantly paid for three items because I could no longer bid on anything. Although I was charged $15+ on each of these necklaces, if the shill bids are removed, I won most of them for $0.99. EBay still has not responded. EBay refuses to force the seller to sell me the necklace at the true price. And why should they? EBay benefits financially from shill bidding! My next plan is to contact PayPal. This has happened on 19 items in 38 days!! ALSO, ONCE A BUYER LISTS AN UNPAID ITEM REPORT YOU CAN NO LONGER LEAVE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK.
Ignorantly, I was holding off leaving negative feedback thinking eBay would resolve this obvious policy violation - All of the item number have been given to eBay twice. Start with PayPal transaction number Express Checkout Payment Sent (Unique Transaction ID # **); Australian Triplet Opal & Red Garnet 925 Sterling Silver Necklace 16- 18" Item # 222547774450.

He wanted to resolve as a "Not as Described" return. We agreed to disagree and send to the Resolution center for processing. An automation error sent this as a return accepted as "Not as Described". I contacted EBAY and they reviewed the case and determined that this should be handled as a return under my sellers listing. They told me, and sent an email to confirm their decision and state that they would contact the buyer to have him return the item. The next day I received an automated email indicating that I needed to send shipping expense to buyer and failure to do so would result in the buyer keeping the item and receiving a refund of purchase and shipping paid to me.
I immediately called EBAY and spoke to a Service Rep who reviewed the case and assured me that they would handle based upon the initial review and decision. I was told this would have to be reviewed and corrected by a supervisor. Supervisor called and informed me that he was re-reversing the decisions and that my case would be handled as a "Not as Described" case. I asked to have a manager call me to explain this mess and why it never made it to the Resolution Center where I could have provided additional documentation. No explanation was given as to what basis the multiple changes of judgement or how I was to proceed. I have not heard from any "manager" about this case and have sent the return shipping money to the buyer before EBAY refunds the purchase price, shipping expenses back to the buyer and tells them to keep the item.

In the meantime I bid on a few items and bought some on the purchase now format. I was given two coupons which I used and was having fun with this new idea of buying online. Then the day after I posted my fifth item I received an e-mail saying my account was suspended. Mind you that no one ever purchased anything from me.
I called up customer service immediately and was told I was suspended without appeal. Their reason was that the items I posted were high risk items; my sisters purse, an old model train locomotive, a roku 3 my mom bought and never used because she got Netflix, a used computer game card that was from my brother-in-law's computer, and a new suit jacket that I purchased at a second hand store at a good deal and wanted to flip. Isn't this what eBay people do? Anyways they closed my account permanently even when there was no foul play. They said that I was posting risky items. There was never a spot in their page that said anything about not being able to post items of the nature. The item that I won a bid on was paid within 3 minutes through my PayPal account as well as the other item I was able purchase in the buy now category.
What I'm getting at is that eBay is unfair and doesn't give people a chance, even when they haven't done a single thing wrong. My character is on the line because I had told lots of people to check out this little store I was trying to legitimately build up without any malicious intent. eBay has left me feeling low and dirty, I wish I would never have tried to deal with them and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. If nothing more than because of the way they can make a person feel so low. Companies have to look out for their interest which I understand but they should have a disclaimer warning people that they can be tossed out at their wish, and if they do MAKE IT EASY TO FIND, then I wouldn't feel so beat down.

They really could care less about the little seller who made eBay what is is today. I will never shop there again, it's Amazon all the way, where you're treated fair, with respect. After several phone call explaining why I had problems, trying to solve them, they never helped me. Just tried to have a reason to stop me from selling as they have gone (China) and new items, not the way it was! After selling since 2002 with 3,449 positive wonderful feedback selling fun items and men's clothing with several repeat customers and they never took the time to help me to hear me to hear my concerns!
I'm a Christian grandma who just wanted to make extra money for her kids, now I'm left with an investment of over five hundred items with nowhere to sell as of yet. They made mistakes by marking or red flagging my store when I was on vacation and marked it against me, so I had to call spend one hour on the phone. You hear, "Yeah everyone is calling. We have a problem with that"! Really??? May I give you a negative! You lost several buyers. Several sellers are moving elsewhere. You're going to fall very soon. I can only imagine as the way you treat the ones who make you $$$ is embarrassing and unjust, unfair.

I do this every couple of days. However, for the past couple weeks when my card is declined my eBay site crashes and is empty. I have no history, no purchases, no nothing. It has taken me hours on the phone with them to try to figure it out and still they cant. They dont know why. I have an account on eBay and have sold many things on there. The SELLERS are the ones who provide them with the merchandise to sell, and yet, their protection is for the Buyers. I have a no return policy on all of my eBay listings. My integrity is very important to me. I have a 100% rating on eBay, as a buyer AND as a seller. I have always been open, responsible, and efficient in handling any sale. The first time I took a chance and sold a high end telescope on eBay, we had used this same telescope the night before for Astrophotography. It was a beautiful telescope, and it was taken directly off the mount, and pictures were taken of the telescope just prior to packing for mailing. The Buyer receives the telescope, sends a picture to us showing the telescope, on an insufficient mount for the telescope's weight and size. I warned him that the mount was not sufficient and he quickly told me it was.
I'm not sure of the time frame, but thereafter, he contacted me and said he wasn't happy with the telescope because the focuser was bent, and he send a picture of a small scratch in the paint. He wanted money back from me for the problems he had stated. He also threatened to ruin my rating. I agreed to give him $50.00, just to keep everybody happy. Before I could send it to him, my husband got very ill and I had to take him to the ER. We were there all night. As soon as I got home, I went to give him his $50.00 back, only to find that he had already filed a complaint with eBay regarding return of all of his money and to return the telescope to us because of a bent focuser and a scratch in the paint.
I called eBay, item #**, on how to proceed with this complaint. They said that I would be allowed an appeal. I asked how to proceed. They instructed me to let the buyer send back the telescope so we could inspect it to see if there was, indeed, anything wrong with it. Then I would be given an opportunity to take pictures of its condition and turn them in to them so they had evidence to allow the appeal. I told them that I would not be paying for the shipping, that the buyer would have to. I did get the telescope, at which time I inspected it. There was NO VISIBLE SCRATCH in the paint, as was provided by the Buyer, and the Focuser? was NOT BENT. It has a set screw that has to be unlocked to operate the mechanism. It worked beautifully. BUT the Buyer HAD destroyed the telescope. All the optics were knocked loose. It was only in a shape of being parted out.
What eBay DID NOT tell me was that their offer of having an appeal was only to call them and they would decide if you would be GRANTED an appeal. They also DID NOT tell me that they would be returning money to the buyer before I was even given an appeal. Ebay prides themselves on protecting the buyers, NOT the sellers, who make all their money for them. If there was no sellers, there would be no items to buy. DON'T SELL ON EBAY!!! THIS BUYER HID BEHIND eBay policies. Where are the policies protecting the Sellers?

All's good when things flow, but once there's an issue, eBay pushes back. EBay isn't entirely transparent, and their vendors post items that reflect this. Vendors posts an item with an inaccurate description. EBay claims they'll "do something." Go back, and check, and the item is posted in a similar manner. Dispute, eBay claims it does NOT recognize an email it sends with an actual case number that includes the item being discussed/disputed is the item purchased from eBay? ANY excuse to avoid accountability because eBay CONFIRMS orders by sending you an email.

At the beginning of 2016 I decided to begin selling some items I had acquired through different means, such as yard sales, Facebook and other online sites that were created for such sales and also thrift store shopping. Over the years I had accumulated quite a few items. Most of them brand new merchandise still in the original packaging and numerous pieces of jewelry. So my wife talked me into selling some or most of these items on eBay. We needed to make some extra room in the house. Also, we really could use the extra cash to pay off some bills and basically take care of a few of our financial issues at the time. I finally got the opportunity and time one day to sit down and start an account on eBay as a seller. After opening my new account my wife and I had gone through some of the jewelry we had purchased earlier in the year at yard sales and other places. Every purchase was made legitimately.
We decided on my first item being a 14k gold and ruby ring, just a small man's band. So I posted it (she did) on eBay with an asking price of around 200 USD. We figured this was a fair price in comparison to the retail price of 1200 to 1600 USD. We didn't pay very much for it, so we thought we would pass on the deal at the same time quickly achieving our first goal amount to pay one of our bills. Finally it was posted. Time to wait for a buyer. Only 3 or 4 minutes passed when I received an email from eBay. When I opened this email expecting to see an interested buyer, I was shocked to see that eBay had suspended my account completely. I then sent a reply asking for clarification as to why they have suspended my account. What they told me was simply ridiculous.
They said they suspended my account because they were concerned for the public and their buyers. When I asked why I was told that it was because I was selling the ring for far less than its value. That is everything that he would tell me. My question is, why should it be a reason for concern, no matter what price I choose to sell my own property for to eBay. Why should they be able to suspend my account with underlying accusations of theft. Is it because they wouldn't make the amount they wanted to from my merchandise? I feel this is unfair to me as a new seller. How many others have they treated like this. I do not believe they should be able to run a business like this.

It's Seller security or Buyer security they love to remind you. There is no Seller security nor there is a Buyer security. If you a Seller you have to deal with scammers that register with eBay and PayPal and if you are a Buyer you deal with scammers as well. eBay's biggest thing when it comes to sales comes from Far East, China to say. Americans and Europeans avoid do anything with these Sellers and Buyers for it's always something... but eBay and PayPal allows them to have registered with CA or NJ and so address but post to unaware from Far East... Same with Buyers from Far East- they register with suites and always receive item "damaged" or "as not described."
They very easy learn tricks how to play the "game." This is very shaky place to buy or sell! They charge 10% from sale + 10% from shipping. You pay also 3-4% to PayPal. Poorly managed eBay's billing. It's a torture every month to "babysit" their billing. For some reason "mistakes" always benefit eBay! Needless to say that you have to deal with outsourced call centers in Philippines. eBay is a scheme to make money. People are allowed to sell whatever they want for whatever price they want and eBay takes a portion of every item sold, including a portion of the shipping. I shouldn't have to pay eBay fees 3 times for 1 item. On top of that they only care about their buyers not their sellers which makes NO sense since the sellers are the ones making them money. NO RETURNS means RETURNS ACCEPTED so don't bother selecting it, a case will be opened and you will have to pay for your item to be returned and refund the money.
If a buyer scams you or files false claims eBay doesn't care because the buyer is always right. Plus the rating system is rigged. You can only leave positive feedback for any buyer and any negative feedback left won't show up so you don't know who are bad and good buyers. The whole system is rigged and customer service is awful and absolutely no help. The last customer service person claimed they didn't have anybody higher up then stated you will need to speak to someone higher up... seriously? It honestly isn't worth the hassle. And I wonder if the bidding process is manipulated sometimes because there will be no bids then in the last minute people bid way out of line. Make it seem like to me that it is being used to inflate the costs of certain things. Also a lot of people price things way too high to start with.

I really like how cheap the items are compare to Amazon and the free shipping on most of the items that I buy. Also, the customer service is amazing and the sellers respond pretty fast. I wish the product selection was a bit more like on Amazon and other sites though. Also, most of the item that I buy are from China so they take weeks to come and sometimes the item arrive as damage or false advertisement. It's a pity some seller make you pay for the return shipping when the item is damage or they take really long to reply back. But sometimes the items arrive within a week or so. Also, the Paypal section usually respond pretty fast for me and if there is a need for a refund they work pretty fast. My experience is fairly good all in all.

There's so much great vintage stuff I can't find anywhere else for pretty low prices, and even when they're pricey it's still fair for such old things. Everything about eBay is good and I'm lucky I can get what I do. I quit paying through PayPal but that isn't eBay's fault.

eBay was easy to use and there are always many varieties of objects and things to look through. You can also track your packages and it's trustworthy with your card information. If a seller tries to scam you, they will help you get a refund and get your money back. Some users are very trustworthy and others aren't. People need to be honest about what they are selling such as makeup. They say it's real when in fact it's fake. Also, they sometimes can send you broken items even if they didn't list the item as broken.

I really like eBay. There are many different products to choose from. I have had wonderful experiences in dealing with customers from purchasing and also selling items on eBay. I have never experienced any returns or refunds needed. I also like the different categories and options on eBay. When you search for an item, you will find multiples of that item as well as many other items similar to that you were searching in the first place. You can browse for hours on eBay and find many things to buy. I wish eBay had a better system for purchasing right away though. The auctions can take a long time and you can never know the exact time the product will get to you. Sometimes the auctions end at a bad time of day or night and you can miss out on many opportunities.

eBay has a wide selection of products for everyone. Searching for a product is simple and easy to do. You simply search for an item or product category and all of the products offered through eBay shows up. You can purchase an item outright or bid on an item of interest. There are various payment options to choose from and each is secure. However, sellers on eBay can be located around the world so sometimes an item takes a while (several weeks) to arrive to you after you have purchased it. This can be frustrating to a consumer especially if you need the item right away or within the next few days.

I can reduce waste by purchasing used items and score a great deal, or I can buy new merchandise if I want. They have a great variety and I love the thousands of different categories they have and trying to purchase hard to find items. But I hate being sniped especially when you are the high bidder and you think you are going to win the auction and someone makes a bid one penny higher than you with no time left in the auction.

I like the ease of shopping from home and not fighting crowds in stores and there are so many items to purchase through eBay at a lower cost than in stores. There are always great deals on top of the already low prices offered on eBay. I also like that you can filter items to specifically meet the specifications to what you are looking for and you can put some or all of your items on a watch list to see if prices change at all or to just save for a later purchase date. I like that there is a wide variety of sellers on eBay and that you are able to leave feedback on items purchased. When purchasing items, you are able to use a PayPal account so that you do not have to directly input your bank information, thus preventing possible fraud issues.
There is a vast array of items to browse and I like the ease of navigation that the site has to offer. Sellers always shipped items in a timely manner and products always arrived in great condition. If there was ever any questions about a product, sellers always provided a courteous and timely response. Most items arrived on or before the expected arrival date. Very quick to receive payment as well as easy to pay using PayPal and quick shipment. The fun part is finding something and bidding on it. You watch the bidding process and hopefully you are the lowest bid. You can often get a great bargain. Also, selection choice is great and you can read reviews of buyers and sellers. Then you can sometimes run into something that you purchase not being exactly what you thought it would be. Ebay was a relatively simple and streamlined auctioning experience, although it is hard to filter through some lists of items. While I have been using the website for a while, I feel that it has remained a staple of my internet-buying group of sites. It has a wide variety of sellers, making it great for finding deals. Along with this, the layers of buyer and seller protection allow me to feel secure while shopping from largely unknown retailers. No problem with ebay. Earlier, I had many difficulties and much frustration for articles that I had bid on and lost due to automatic bidding that easily bumped me out of the process always at the last minute of each auction.

Also the company Is established and have watched it grown since joining in 1999. However the fees are way too high and it's hard to make any type of profit. This is the reason I've stopped selling so much. By the time I pay insertion fees, final value fees and PayPal, eBay is taking the bulk.

Good site with many different programs to buy from. Shipping at times is way too expensive but a lot of free shipping in some auctions. We also use Paypal to pay through our debit card within our local bank. Also we can check out the reviews to find how other people felt about a certain seller before you deal with them. Sometimes reviews are not correct and you can be misled about a seller's products. Also, items are wrongly listed and you receive things that are not as described but if anything is wrong you can send the item back for a full refund.

Easy to use fast purchases as described, quickly received. But, could get taken advantage of and have been ripped off in the past by a seller that sent an empty package. Then eBay has raised their list prices to the point where it is no longer worth the list price or hassle for me to try to sell my items as they take so much money off your sale that you have to jack your price way up. I like you can see what else the seller is selling or had sold in the past and I also enjoy the watchlist. I purchased a nutrition shake on eBay and was expecting 5 individual packets. Only 3 came and I challenged the seller and was sent the correct item. But I dislike the risk of being taken and having to challenge a seller. I had to challenge a seller when I did not receive an item. I had to fill out forms and was scared I was out the money. Due to eBay's policy of siding with the buyer, 99% of the time it seems, in a dispute. Not fun any longer. I don't trust selling anything on eBay unless it's for parts or repair in as-is condition. eBay allows a buyer to basically steal from a seller with their return policy. I have had two transactions end up to where the seller (myself in one case) ended up losing the sold item & having to refund the money or receiving back a different item that was shipped to the buyer after the buyer falsely claimed the item I sent to him was defective. He even sent it back in a new design of the packaging for the item. So it was obvious that he already had the item he purchased and was just looking to replace the broken one in his possession. That was in 2015 and I still have not sold anything on eBay to date.
The only thing that keeps me browsing the site as a buyer are the lower prices and variety of items listed on eBay. I find that the user interface is easy to use and eBay has some good guides on how to use the website and on most any specific item you are looking for.

eBay is a great online shop when you are looking for a bargain. Everything is sold on eBay, including cars. I feel that eBay is the knick knack store of the online world. You can find books, movies, trinkets, plates, jewelry, and any number of other items. The site provides a variety of ways to make a payment, and all of them are secure. I have been able to do research on items I own based on posts I found on eBay. There is a place to rate the seller and the item, providing feedback for other people that might purchase from the seller. But if you give a seller or buyer a bad review, that review seems to only affect their rating for a short period of time.
I got on eBay because they were the only place that was selling plates I wanted that were out of production. eBay is a bidding site and it seems there is a 50/50 chance that you will have to bid for the item instead of just buying it outright. There is anxiety of whether or not you will win the item you want but I like the system used to negotiate price. Also, when you do win the item, you have to pay for shipping. This is particularly frustrating since there are other online sites that provide the shipping for free. Also, you can more easily compare prices on other sites, and know whether or not you are getting a good deal. But I felt lucky that I was able to talk the seller down in price.
The seller had good reviews, and I received the package in the allotted amount of time. Since the items are secondhand, there is no way to guarantee the quality of the item you are purchasing, and the return policy seems to be based on each seller. But the plates were in great condition and were properly wrapped to ensure they made the journey safely. I am grateful to eBay for being the intermediary in the sale. I now have a complete set of dishes to host larger parties.

Most sellers do exactly as they are supposed to do, they ship and sell on time and send you what you've bid on. However, I dislike the occasional jerk seller who sends something that isn't exactly all it's advertised to be. I've also had a few sellers who added hidden shipping fees and were jerks about it. Some buyers did not ever pay and some of those were big ticket items. However, that is rather uncommon, thankfully. I also do not like that a seller can no longer leave negative feedback for a buyer who does not pay or does not fulfill their part of the deal. I have bought hundreds of items through eBay and have sold dozens of things as well. Most have been very positive experiences, with myself being surprised often by wonderful, friendly, lovely people who buy and sell. It's so much fun. Excellent experience overall.
