How does HireAHelper work?
Instead of just hiring a random mover in your city or asking your friends to help move all of your stuff, you can use HireAHelper to find vetted companies that have good reviews from previous customers and meet your budgetary needs.
HireAHelper’s online platform lets you choose whether you need help with just loading and unloading or you need movers with a truck. Enter details, including the loading date, the ZIP code you’re moving from and the ZIP code you’re moving to, in order to see quotes. HireAHelper then shows you companies you can book, their prices and verified reviews.
HireAHelper moving services
Here are the differences between the two types of services offered by HireAHelper:
- Hybrid move (labor only): You hire helpers for loading and unloading, but you secure and drive your own moving truck. Hybrid moves are easy to plan and much less expensive than full-service moves.
- Full-service move (movers and truck): You hire a moving company with a truck. Full-service movers assist with loading, transportation and unloading. Packing services may be available. Getting a quote can take longer; you may need to speak with a representative over the phone.
You need a credit card to book with HireAHelper. Once you book a company with HireAHelper, you get contact information. You can contact the company or wait for it to contact you within 24 hours to confirm scheduling and details. You will not be charged for your move until one day before the moving date. You can cancel at no charge up to 48 hours before the move start time.
HireAHelper cost
The average cost for a hybrid move (labor and transportation) through HireAHelper is $910. The cost of a mover depends on multiple factors, like move size, inventory weight, timing, location and add-on services (packing, storage, specialty items).
The table below shows estimates for hybrid and full-service moves of various distances. These estimates are based on aggregated, real-world move data from HireAHelper’s moving cost calculator. For the most accurate, up-to-date pricing information, request quotes directly from HireAHelper.
| Move distance | Hybrid move | Full-service move |
|---|---|---|
| Local move | $523 | $1,300 |
| Medium-distance move | $826 | $3,000 |
| Long-distance move | $2,171 | $6,000 |
| Average cost | $910 | $2,568 |

I had a very disappointing experience using HireAHelper and feel it is important to share the details so that others can make an informed decision. The first moving company I booked through the platform failed to respond to appointment confirmations, requiring me to find a replacement mover. The second company that I hired demonstrated a lack of professionalism and care, which resulted in significant damage to my household belongings. During the move, one of the crew repeatedly asked for items from my home, packed the trailer improperly by placing clearly marked fragile items at the bottom of the load, and stood on a light-colored couch, causing damage that could easily have been avoided. I provided more than enough moving blankets for the furniture, most of which were not used.
I had also purchased moving insurance through a provider recommended through the platform. Despite clearly communicating the coverage I required, the insurer issued the wrong policy. The company later acknowledged its mistake and refunded the premium in full. When I subsequently filed a claim under HireAHelper's Loss & Damage Guarantee, my experience was equally frustrating. My shipment was being transported to Canada, and due to transit and customs delays, I was unable to discover and report the damage within the required timeframe. My claim was denied, in part, because HireAHelper took the position that the U-Pack trailer I used did not qualify as a covered moving vehicle. This was surprising given that U-Pack is a well-established provider specializing in household moves. HireaHelper will not cover moves done using U-Pack so beware!
In my view, important limitations regarding coverage for U-Pack trailers and cross-border moves to Canada were not adequately disclosed during the booking process. Had these restrictions been clearly communicated, I would have made different decisions regarding my move and insurance coverage. As a result, I am now pursuing other avenues to recover the costs associated with the substantial damage caused during the move. My overall experience was that responsibility was shifted between multiple parties, leaving me without a satisfactory resolution despite significant losses. Hire a Helper did all they can to absolve themselves of blame despite all the issues being with their recommended service providers.
Based on my experience, I would encourage anyone considering this platform to carefully review all coverage terms, exclusions, and limitations in advance, particularly if using U-Pack services or moving internationally. You will not be covered and you're better off going elsewhere. I would also recommend comparing options with established moving companies directly before making a decision. Hire a Helper pose as being on your side upfront, but as soon as there's an issue they wipe their hands clean. Beware.

We are sorry your move did not go as expected and appreciate you sharing your experience. Our Service Guarantee and claim valuation process requires both loading and unloading to be booked and performed through our platform to qualify for coverage. We understand this was frustrating and encourage you to contact us at (800) 995-5003 or customerservice@hireahelper.com to discuss your experience further.

I called them to help with a move by unloading my 12" POD container, picking up several large appliances from my home and a queen sized bed plus additional boxes, and moving them all to my new home. They booked a 16" truck for all of this and it already had someone else's belongings in it when it arrived to the PODS location. I had to leave back several large appliances and then hire a different mover and pay even more money for them to move said appliances. This company did nothing to help at all but offer a $75 credit (that was less than .015% of the cost of the move). I would never call this company to help with my move ever again. They don't care about the customer at all.

We are sorry to hear your move did not go as expected. Our records show a 24' truck was provided to accommodate your move, which exceeded the originally booked truck size. We want to ensure every customer has a positive experience and would welcome the opportunity to discuss this further. Please reach out at (800) 995-5003 or customerservice@hireahelper.com.

We used Hire A Helper. Brad called a couple of times and each time had a different story. We are moving long distance and need everything loaded into pods. For some reason when Brad called back he thought we had a Uhaul. Then when he arrived he said we would have extra room in each pod. After dealing with his arrogance of being the best mover(which he is a hard worker, but not the best I've seen), at the end he said we should have a uhaul as a backup. For a professional mover, I'm surprised to say the least that we went from one extreme to the other. They were supposed to have 2 people for 3 hours, and they had 3 people for 7 hours. Most of this was because of all of the smoke breaks and the fact that Brad had to micromanage two great helpers.
Brad, instead of telling customers to stay out of your way when you arrive, I suggest you take some time and explain to your customers the process. Being a people person can go a long way. Right after they left I took pictures of the two pods they loaded. There is a hand truck the the bottom edge with a piece of foam laying on my leather couch. I'm not sure what shape my belongings will be in when they arrive, but I feel like there will be a claim files with hire a helper when I unload.

My experience was less than pleasant. On moving day, the helpers were on time. Within the first 30 minutes of the move, I felt like one of the workers was moving slowly but I didn’t question it. He asked shortly after to use my restroom. I agreed, of course, so he apparently wasn’t feeling well (that could’ve been why he was moving slowly or not) because he was in the restroom for an hour and a half doing #2.
The other worker was left to move everything by himself. I booked 2 hours. There was no way one worker could’ve moved everything alone in that timeframe and I wasn’t going to book for additional time. I had a 20 hr drive ahead of me, so it resulted in me having to assist him in moving my items, including heavy items as well. We moved one small sofa and boxes from the 3rd floor. I have video and audio proof of this occurrence from my buildings camera and the cameras inside of my apartment.
Once the young man was done, there was 30 or so minutes left in my time frame, so he helped move a desk and a few other small items. He did apologize and I genuinely felt bad for him not feeling well. He stated he had food poisoning but I wasn’t sure if that was the case or if he had a virus, so I hired cleaners to clean and disinfect my restroom. I didn’t ask anyone to pay for this, I didn’t ask to be reimbursed, I would’ve just appreciated my couch being replaced, but unfortunately, I will have to dispute the moving services with my bank since I didn’t get what I paid for, which were 2 movers for 2 hours.
At the beginning of the move, the couch was dropped on the top of the door on the 2nd floor as they were going down the steps, and it punctured the arm of the couch. My claim for a repair was denied because a furniture pad wasn’t available, although I doubt it could’ve stopped the couch from slipping and falling on a door from above. Rules are rules so a $50 “courtesy” payment was offered, which would do me no good because I am moving 20 hours away and the $50 won’t fix the tear in my couch that’s now in storage.
In addition to this issue, the person I spoke with via email proceeded to do an entire back and forth with me regarding being refunded for the service I DIDN'T receive after offering me $150. Then wanted to know why it wasn’t good enough as if I would want $150 after I didn’t receive the service I paid for and I had to help move my things from the 3rd floor alongside the one helper left in order to use my 2 hour time slot because I had a strict schedule due to me having to drive 20 hours and not knowing when or if the young man would be ok to finish the move. The location is in MN, dated for 5/8/2026. 2 workers scheduled. Paid $419 total.

We greatly appreciate you taking the time to outline your experience, Neshia. A strict schedule requires everything to run smoothly. Having to manage the highly uncomfortable reality of a sick worker in your space, and then stepping in to assist is an incredibly draining way to start a move. Your account is currently under review. Please reply to our latest email so we can continue working to better understand your expectations and address these concerns with you.

It snowed. The truck company didn't have the truck because it snowed. The snowball effect was that I had to cancel the movers as well with less than 48 hours notice. It wasn't my fault that the trucking company didn't have the truck. It wasn't my fault that it snowed. But HireAHelper already charged my card!!! I have to pay a fee to switch moving dates or I get charged because I have a job and can't call during business hours early enough to cancel or I get charged the entire moving fee to cancel the job! The movers don't answer the phone because they are moving. HireAHelper doesn't pay the movers for the cancellation. They pocket the fee for being a middle man. This isn't right!
Best advice I have is don't schedule a mover more than the 48 hours in advance unless you know there won't be any natural disasters, inclement weather, truck issues, life issues, or any problems at all. Charging people early for not having done any moving service at all is ridiculous! HireAHelper encourages you to contact the movers if there is any problem. They don't advertise their phone number or email. They send about 5 to 7 emails with only one of them having the cancellation policy on it. Unscrupulous! Oh and HireAHelper is owned by Porch Moving Group. By the time you actually get in contact with someone who can cancel a move, your card has already been charged!

We are sorry to hear how the unexpected snowstorm impacted your moving timeline. During the disruption, we worked to locate a replacement crew for when your truck became available, while honoring your original booking rate. Per your request, we have since processed a full $249.60 refund (arriving in 3–5 business days). We appreciate your feedback as we continue to improve our communication and the customer experience during these types of unexpected delays.

I hired Chris Moving through HireAHelper only to notice the scent of ** as soon as they walked up. I had been outside unloading the POD for awhile so I knew the scent was coming from them as I did not smell it until they arrived. The scent also went away when they left. The only things I needed help with was a couple larger items that went upstairs that I could not handle myself.
Against my better judgment I let them start the job as I was in a time crunch because the POD was being picked up the following morning. About 10 minutes after starting they wanted to take apart the one piece washer/dryer set. I did not want them to as I did not trust them to put it back together correctly since they were under the influence. After arguing with them for a few minutes I asked them to leave as I did not appreciate them showing up high! I contacted HireAHelper and they refused to refund my $ since I had no proof. Now why would I be lying when I had to hire another company to come out to finish the job??? HireAHelper claims they do background checks however that has nothing to do with the day of the job!

We understand why this situation caused concern and appreciate you bringing it to our attention. After this matter was reported, the service provider advised that the crew completed post-incident drug testing with negative results. Concerns regarding onsite professionalism are documented and reviewed carefully, and customer feedback remains an important part of evaluating provider performance and accountability.

Save yourself the grief of using these folks. They will break your belongings and then blame you. They loaded heavier boxes and furniture on top of lighter items in cardboard boxes. Then insult you with a damage offer.

It’s disappointing to hear about your experience with the movers you found through our site. While the moving crew operates independently of HireAHelper, we take reports of poor service seriously. We’d like to review your case and the offer you received. Could you please share your order number or contact details so we can locate your account? We want to look into this further for you.

Think hard before hiring! We did PODS and they recommended HireAHelper. Two people showed and supposedly handled our property with care. NOT. They put a king mattress in front of a mess of heavy and fragile boxes so we wouldn't know. Crushed boxes, dented file cabinet, antique cabinet wood veneer missing on bottom, etc. We had bought insurance and they said we had to have known when it was packed. Really? Do not use them in Atlanta. In Ventura, they are great!

We understand how frustrating it can be to discover damage while unpacking and appreciate you sharing your experience. Damage claims are reviewed according to the coverage purchased and the reporting requirements provided before service. Concerns regarding how items were loaded and protected have been documented and addressed directly with the service provider. Thank you again for your feedback as it helps us continue improving the customer experience across our marketplace.

Avoid like the plague. Used this service for a recent move with Rat Pack moving containers. Rat Pack referred me to Hire A Helper to hire people to load and unload my containers for an August, 2025 move from NJ to FL. In Florida 3 men showed up in an Uber. When they were getting towards the end one young guy asked for a garbage bag. I noticed him tying it up and said not to as I would put more paper in the bag. He said he would do it and I said no I would do it. He was being a little too insistent. I took the bag from him, it was one of the large black construction bags. I put the bag away and waited till they left.
When I opened it there were several articles of my son's designer clothing (who recently passed away) and liquor he was trying to steal. About $650 worth. I still don't know if more is missing. One of the guys was dripping in sweat and laid down on the brand new carpet in the bedroom. It was a very hot and humid day and of course the house was cool with the ac running. I had given them $40 each as a tip. Hire a Helper did refund the tip money. However Hire A Helper is refusing to refund the whole amount. Jody's service said they would be willing to refund me back what they were paid by Hire A Helper. I believe HAH takes 30% as their fee. HAH claims I hired Jody's they did not. If I paid HAH how can they claim this? Just horrible customer service. They take no accountability for the people THEY RECOMMEND. I would NEVER RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY. They are just the worse.

We sincerely regret the frustration and worry you experienced during your move. While the movers you hired are independent service providers and not our employees, we hold all companies on our platform to high standards. As your banking institution has already granted your chargeback and returned your payment in full, the financial aspect of this dispute is now resolved. We appreciate your patience throughout this process and wish you a peaceful transition to your new home.

By far the worst movers I have ever experienced in my life! These are scammers! I booked movers through their services and customer service it’s terrible. The movers showed up 2 hours late and even when I explicitly explained to them that I needed my furniture protected, the older man that assisted in the mover disregarded everything and loaded furniture inside the truck with no plastic protection. They also left items behind and refused to load them into the truck and I have been dealing with the aftermath ever since. I do not recommend these services in the future and not worth the price.
They refused to guarantee to come back to fix this mess and all they cared about was that I would pay for entire service. They didn’t even give me any refunds and I will be fighting these charges with my credit card company as I do not agree to pay for this terrible service. They didn’t fulfill their service and made my experience a horrible and stressful one. I’m beyond disappointed.

The worst experience ever! I thought they would be good after Penske told me they were 5 star review on Google! I didn’t look into it. My husband and I were in a hurry to move out of our house so we booked them without reading any reviews. I’m here today to let people know. Do not use this company unless you like your stuff broken, and they will blame you when their employees are the ones that brake your belongings! Basically they disassembled a full sectional down to nothing and we have no way to put it back together and they will not take any credibility for it saying they will just let their movers know for the future!
Why would anybody take a whole couch apart piece by piece? I told them that we had already unhooked the pieces that needed to come apart. All they had to do was load it up in the truck instead they took it apart piece by piece! They bent our flat screen TV because they tied the ties around it too tight. They broke two lamps and one cabinet. The company does not care about your belongings. They are literally money hungry idiots!

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We aren’t able to identify your order from this review, but we’d like the chance to look into what occurred. Please reply with your order number or the name and email used so we can review the service and address your concerns.

HireAHelper is a complete grift of a "scheduling" vendor. They trick you into an "estimate" but if you overestimate the time and labor needed, they'll steal that overestimated total from you too. It's all your responsibility to estimate correctly.. otherwise they'll force you into the extra charges you agreed to... though it's a dirty trick. Always read the fine print with these types.
I estimated 4 hours with 3 movers. The job took half that long. The moving company itself was great (Lucky Movers in Los Angeles, CA). I'd be happy to compensate them well with tip. I did ask them if they'd accompany me to another site for the additional 2 hrs of labor, but they refused citing another job they needed to get to at 3pm. How did they have another job at 3pm when I had them scheduled until 5pm, if they were to fill all 4 hrs? So, I called HireAHelper to question the charges.. as I thought it was an estimate with final billing based on the amount of labor used. Not so. I was to pay $750 total for 2 hours of 3 men moving my family's belongings from a storage room inside a building into a moving truck outside. Not complicated and the movers were great and fast. But $750? And they could only stay 2 hrs?
HireAHelper refused to work with me and immediately charged the $750 after I told them I was disputing such a large amount.. this was while they told me they would not charge me until a supervisor called me the next day. Awful, horrible experience with HireAHelper specifically. They will have a 1 star review on every site I can find. That's for sure. These people should be shut down.

Hire A Helper - movers damaged every single piece of furniture and used less than 5 packing blankets when packing up an entire large POD and 26’ U-Haul. We provided over 30 packing blankets as well as comforters, heavy duty cardboard boxes, packing plastic wrap, hundreds of feet in visqueen (heavy duty plastic), bubble wrap, ratchet straps and bungee cords. They used none of it. They were over 2 hrs late and damaged not only my front porch, but also every single piece of furniture. Instead of using the protective materials they just threw them into the POD and truck and now refuse to take responsibility for their inability to do the job they were hired for.
I would recommend you hire any other moving company or hourly movers. There is a complete and total lack of accountability and the only compensation they tried to offer was a refund without addressing the well over $10k in damage to every single piece of furniture. In order to get the refund they want us to sign a non-waiver absolving them of any responsibility for the damage and that we will not speak of this horrible experience to anyone. Clearly we chose not to sign their waiver and I will be writing a review and telling anyone who will listen. If you want your furniture to arrive at your new location undamaged I would recommend anyone else. Maggie’s Movers and Buzzy Bee were the two companies hired through Hire A Helper. At this time all three companies are absolute junk.

The movers into my pod broke two pieces of antique furniture because they didn’t take the drawers out. They were rushing to get done within an hour. I paid for two hours. On the other end, a guy referred by HireaHelper was shady. Changed his name to his phone number. I tried to call the initial number he called me from. It went nowhere. The one guy who was at the pod also tried to call him with no answer. The second mover guy went to the store, that guy never came back. Ghosted us.
I had to the first mover load which took a lot longer because it was me. I tipped him well because he waited for me. I didn’t know they don’t pay the guys if I am late! 2 hours is 2 hours to me. They should get paid from the time I am supposed to be there. I tipped him more than they pay him. Then this guy said they would charge me more because it took longer! I flipped.
The guy kept gaslighting me trying to make this my fault and that I had to pay more. After I had talked to HIREAHELPER (who also did not answer the phone), he sent me a nasty text, to which I replied “I already paid them in cash more than you pay them.” I will never use a company referred by HIREAHELPER again. My experience with HireAHelper was absolutely terrible. When the two movers finally arrived—over an hour late—they didn’t even know who they were supposed to help. They were about to assist the wrong person until I had to speak up and direct them myself. That was the first red flag. They showed up in a small car with no tools, no equipment, and no supplies— completely unprepared for any issues that might arise. It was clear they weren’t professionals, just two guys thrown into the job without any coordination or care.
To make things worse, they rushed through unloading my belongings and finished in under an hour. Yet, I was still charged for the full two hours. There was no offer to adjust the price or make it right. It felt like a scam. The whole experience was frustrating, careless, and unprofessional from beginning to end. I expected reliable help, not confusion, delays, and overcharging. I will never use HireAHelper again and will strongly advise anyone I know to stay away. This was the worst moving assistance I’ve ever received.

We’re happy we could help locate assistance on short notice. Same-day bookings have no set arrival time, and all labor-only services include a two-hour minimum. The arrival mix-up likely came from contacting several crews to fulfill your request. Thank you for your feedback. We will share this information with all appropriate teams and work to improve our last-minute booking procedures.

Most expensive "help" I've ever received. Planned a move from NC to IL. We rented a truck and vehicle tow, only to arrive for pickup to discover that the tow was not available. Consequently, we had to procure another moving truck & tow, which meant our departure was delayed. We contacted Hire-A-Helper to advise that we would be about two hours late, to which the mover advised that was fine. At no point was it mentioned that there was a cutoff time for service that day. About an hour later I received a call from the broker advising that our help had to be rescheduled. The initial cost for two local helpers, unloading only, for two hours (the minimum required to book) was $319. The fee to reschedule the move to the next day was $90. Ultimately I paid $420 for less than 1-hour of move assistance. This is a service I would never use again, and if I did, definitely not through a broker where the communication is inconsistent with the movers.

We know delays like this can create unexpected complications and appreciate how disruptive they can be during a move. Since movers are scheduled based on committed time slots, significant changes often require rescheduling to avoid impacting other customers. We aim to provide clear notice of these terms at every stage and are here to assist you throughout your move. I had "American Movers" and it was awesome at first with professionalism and integrity to the company. BUTTT my TV was dropped by one of the movers and I lost over $550 dollars due to this movers from their site not indicating that TVs need to be boxed but getting an email from the insurance rep saying it does.
You pay for professionalism from these movers when you hire movers to tell you if things will get damaged which that was never told when things were being packed and moved. Me spending over $900 to this company was "NOT" worth my money. You rely on movers to not break any items and wait for their team to help move things. This company had the nerves to offer me out of "GOODWILL GESTURE" $24 - $75 dollars. To not report what has happened to me and everyone has a right to know!
This is ridiculous and insulting. Do not do business with this company. Their claims site doesn't stipulate that a TV needs to be boxed. BUT then again you do pay for professionalism of the movers to let you know what needs to be done. This was a complete "FAIL!" All in all I lost over $1400 since now I have to buy a TV. I'm a Veteran and to all out there please go elsewhere and save yourself the frustration. Showing proof of the PDF that I refused to sign to so I can keep my mouth shut for $75 dollars I'd rather help other Americans out so you don't go through the money lost. Truly Disappointed and frustrated.

This service was recommended by 1-800-Pack-Rat, a pod company, to assist in my move with third party movers to load and unload the POD. I hired their services for $278 for the from destination load and $256 for the to destination unload. The first inkling of issues was when I tried several times and unsuccessfully to communicate with the company scheduled for the loading. After two days and with a little over a week left to load and experiencing the lack of communication, I cancelled and found a different company to do the work. I decided to keep the unloading appointment. Using Pack-Rat was a mistake and keeping Hire a Helper (HAH) compounded the mistake. The first problem was that Pack-Rat failed to keep their promised and paid for delivery time. The delivery time was 8:30 and I scheduled the helper crew for that time. The delivery was not done till 10:30 am which essentially exhausted the time allocated for the helpers work.
At 9:15 am, the crew chief for the helpers told me to call Hire a Helper and to ask them to reschedule for later in the day. He told me they were leaving for their next job. I called HaH and without any hesitation, the lady on the phone told me that I will have to pay the $256 to the current crew even when they did absolutely nothing. Additionally, she stated that I will have to pay a rescheduling fee of $84 and another $256 for a new crew. I told her no but hell no. Also, I asked her to call the crew and to tell them to get back to my apartment building to wait out the remainder of the time left that they were paid for. HaH supposedly work in close concert with Pack-Rat to provide a service yet in the two separate cases I hired them for there were issues.
Is it Pack-Rat failing to keep their commitment HaH’s fault? No it was not… but to charge such an expensive re-scheduling and then gouge me for the same amount twice while working closely with the company that recommended them is a predatory, lousy business practice as well as bordering on unethical. While it is up to the reader to use them for whatever reason, I will never use them again even if it means a cheaper price.

We understand how upsetting this was and appreciate you sharing these details. While HireAHelper doesn’t manage container delivery schedules, we’d like to review your order and any related charges. Please call 800-995-5003 or email support@hireahelper.com so we can look into this further with you.

Do not hire this company! They will scam you to book more hours than they know you will need and will not refund you for unused time. They had me hire for 3 hours and the movers showed up for 45 mins. They also will not compensate anything if the moving company they contract breaks all of your furniture and mishandles everything. This company is a huge scam and please look at reddit stories before believing any good reviews.

UPDATE 4/12/25. A representative of Hire-A-Helper did respond to my review and did explain that we were not informed of the service provider's policy so in good faith, they did issue us a refund of the unused hour. We received the refund within a day or 2 of their response to our review. For that reason, I am upgrading my review from 1 star to 3 stars.
Original Review: April 8, 2025
We hired 3 men for 3 hours through Hire A Helper for our move from FL to WI and they billed us for 4 hours, saying they would not refund us the unused hour. CAUTION: Always just ask for the minimum of 2 hours so you don't get ripped off like we did. We were going to use them for our final move in Wisconsin but will never use them again. Right on their website, they say average movers time is 3 hours but they bill you in increments of 2 hours. How convenient for this company to make an extra $150 on each customer! Do you enjoy being ripped off? We don't either so stay away from this company! The sad thing is, is that we had used them several times beforehand and they were always very good and honest. It's a shame they have gone so far downhill.

Your service was booked and reconfirmed to have three movers for a total of four hours. However, we failed to inform you of the service provider's policy which limits the ability to refund unused time. This policy assures you the crew for the full window of time you request, but if the job gets done early, it can often feel unfair. As a gesture of good faith, we have provided a refund for the additional hour and sent over an updated receipt.

Updated on 04/03/2025: Nothing has improved our rating! I would still advise do not hire this company. The email to respond to Hire a Helper is not legitimate. They will not let email go thru to customerservice@hah.com. Keep getting notified delivery incomplete, recipient server did not accept our requests to connect.! Also when you call the 800-995-5003 it goes right to leave a msg they will call back. That never happens! When you send out mail to the address the Better Business Bureau has on file for them it comes back not a legitimate address. DO NOT USE ANYONE UNDER THE HIRE A HELPER LOGO...Its will be a nightmare. I will post any updates if they become available. We will still take this to the next level that our attorney advises.
Original Review: Hire A Helper is refusing to do only $100.00 for our bad experience. They dropped a $2500.00 TV and put it on the truck like nothing happened. We lost the TV as well as other pieces due to how the truck was loaded. The TV was only a year old as was furniture. I have receipts. Some furniture was taken off in pieces. I am showing some pics here. This is what we went thru with them.
What a nightmare! It started when our scheduled day for packers was not scheduled correctly. We had a freight truck delivered but no packers to come load our truck. You found packers to come load our trailer going to the Seattle Wa area after several phone calls. The trailer was put in storage securely locked in the Seattle area until we were able to find a permanent home. We recently found a home, had our trailer delivered only to find substantial damage had occurred.
When we attempted to open the trailer we found that the steel bars that held the plywood boards in place was jammed. When we were able to unjam the steel bars, because nothing had been tied down and secured everything shifted forward which could have injured the people opening the trailer. You will be able to see it in the photos. Not only were tie downs not used the moving pads purchased to cover furniture were not used. Everything came falling down when the plywood boards were removed. It was heartbreaking to find the amount of damage inside the trailer.
Photos will show items that were taken off the trailer in pieces and the amount of gauged damage that occurred from not using tie downs or moving pads. The movers that came to unload the trailer kept asking “WHO LOADED THIS!” They had to be extremely careful as they tried to remove items so that nothing heavy came crashing down on them. It was like a jigsaw puzzle. Not only is there multiple damage that occurred but we found we are missing items that were never put in the trailer. The men who were loading our truck in Florida needed additional time to complete the job. We approved and paid the additional fees to find later the incompetent job that we approved and paid an additional fee for.
Due to the incompetent job that was done in Florida loading the trailer everything shifted and the packers who were unloading our trailer had to move very slow for safety reasons which caused additional time that we had to approve and pay additional fees. I feel we should be reimbursed for the additional fees that we incurred due to the incompetent job done in Florida.
In addition please note because of how poorly they packed the trailer we lost our new Samsung Smart TV that was damaged and no longer works. Furniture was broken because of how they loaded heavy boxes on fragile furniture, also many heavy boxes and totes were stacked to the roof, unsecured causing many pieces to collapse. Our king mattress was damaged because they did not cover the mattress with the plastic cover that was provided and the mattress was not secured properly.
We are providing pictures of damages and a list of what we know for sure are missing. We have many additional items that have gauges, scratches, and chunks missing out of them that we are not listing. We used Hire a Helper when we moved from Michigan to Florida. We were extremely happy with Hire a Helper both the team in Michigan that loaded our trailer and the team in Florida that unloaded our trailer. We really don’t know what changed but this has been a nightmare. We really are not comfortable with recommending Hire a Helper at this time.

We’re deeply sorry to hear about the challenges you faced. Your claim submission was fully reviewed and claim compensation consideration was limited as your account did not qualify for transit coverage. To note, we are an online marketplace that helps you compare and hire local moving labor providers. The service provider you hired is not employed by HireAHelper, nor is HireAHelper contracting this Helper on your behalf. When able, please reach out to me directly at Ryan.Newsom@HireAHelper.com.

Shady company... HireAHelper states that they provide complementary damage protection at $.60 per pound. I paid an extra $47.99 for the "move protection fee" and they still maintain they are only responsible to pay out $.60 per pound so don't pay for the "move protection fee". In addition, in order to get the meager payout they require you to sign a release that amongst other things requires you to "refrain from making negative, critical, or disparaging commentary, written or spoken, regarding HireAHelper LLC and its officers, directors, agents, and corporate affiliates." I suspect this is why they are rated so highly.

The Move Protection Fee includes customer support, payment security, and a backup booking guarantee but does not alter the standard damage coverage of $0.60 per pound. Additional coverage, called "Porch Damage Coverage," is available for those seeking a higher level of protection. We regret any confusion that occurred and will work to improve clarity moving forward.
If you have any additional questions, please reach out to us at customerservice@hah.com. We are always happy to assist.

This is a warning not to use Hire A Helper. They contracted negligent movers who did not wrap and blanket several pieces of nice furniture prior to packing it into a Pod. In short, their response was that I should have supervised the entire move. The damage did not happen in transit. There is additional structural damage to which I had to submit TWO estimates for repairs, and then they will only pay half now and half later...expecting me to front the payment. Don't be fooled by the great sales people... If you have a claim it will be a nightmare. Hire your moving company directly! NOTE: This site will not let me add any more pictures; but if you saw the way they packed the PODs you would never use them.

We used HireAHelper for our move. It seemed great but once we arrived at our new home, it was discovered how poorly the crew packed our truck. They did not put ANY of our bed frames or rails together, no parts in baggies, nothing. It was a nightmare trying to figure out which rails & parts went to which bed. They also did not wrap a lot that should have been wrapped & results in A LOT of items being scratched, damaged or completely broken. Our $2k+ outdoor dining table was scratched up so badly, there is metal showing through every single one of our 6 chairs & table. I went to file a claim with HireAHelper & they said they could not offer me anything because we used U-Pack through ABF Freight which is considered a freight truck, not a moving truck apparently & voids any claims. They also verbally told me that 1 dozen moving blankets & 2 reams of plastic wrap should be good for our size move.
When I filed the claim, they told me our claim also was not covered due to lack of supplies provided, which I bought the amount of supplies THEIR team instructed me to buy when I called several times to ensure I was all set to go. They find any way they can to get out of holding themselves accountable for any damage. We have so much scratched up furniture, multiple broken shelves, & bed frames that I am truly concerned if they are stable now, all thanks to HireAHelper. I would not recommend using them. They ended up offering me $100 for the thousands of dollars of damage caused by their team's poor packing. Instead, I would recommend you use a mover who will load and unload you on our departure & arrival as they will take more liability & responsibility to truly pack your truck properly since they are doing both sides of your move.

If you could rate this company a zero I would!!!! My experience with this moving company was nothing short of a nightmare filled with lies and deception. They recommended through PODS. But my experience was absolutely the worst!!! Roaches could hire people move your things more professionally. I was given an estimate for 2 hours of labor cost 750.00 and fees and was charged for 4 hours 1400.00. I called them to voice my concerns about the third party company and they brushed me off. Both laborers that were sent to my home took 20 minute poop breaks and I was charged for the time that each of them took for their much needed bathroom reprieves. The had no comment other than to tell me to reach out to the company.
Every time I called HireAHelper with concerns they were unresponsive and downright rude. From what I have been told they charge like three or 4 times what a moving company would charge you directly and turn around and only pay the third party company a very small fraction of the money they receive to do absolutely nothing. Their services is absolutely worthless and take money from the real workers. And if you purchase insurance through them forget it. Your claim for damages will be denied and they will offer you $100.00 for you to sign a legal release... They are the worst company I have ever dealt with!!!!

Beware of this company! Their policies are against you if you do happen to have damage come from improper packing like I did. Truck was packed like a bunch of toddlers did the job. I filed a claim and they had a gazillion and one reason to not compensate me for the damage. I used blankets, but apparently not enough. I had to use a freight trailer, but apparently that's not covered. I did a cross country move, which took longer than 10 days. And they had the audacity to say I took too long to file a claim. Then to top it all off they offered $75 for the over $3,000 of damages. What a joke

This company is absolutely criminal. They charge a flat fee which is normal for a moving company. However; if you prepay for additional time outside of the flat fee they don’t refund the money. They also make you communicate directly with the subcontracted company. Even though they are the ones accepting payment. It’s modern day robbery with no repercussions. It’s not worth my time to go after a company for a few hundred dollars, but do yourself a favor, hire direct and put this company in the trash where they belong.

They broke a $2,000 vase, many small dish items, my Vizio TV 55 in shattered, they shattered my antique table that had glass on it. All because they packed it incorrectly and were in a hurry and were throwing my things everywhere in that truck. When I arrived in Texas from Salt Lake even the two movers that helped me unload couldn't believe how the truck looked. The pricing for additional hours is misleading. Default booking is displayed as 2 movers for 2 hours, with $ fee per additional hour. Additional hour fee looks reasonable but is actually billed per mover per hour, i.e. double the rate displayed. Our $260 for 2 movers, 2 hours quickly became $500 with an additional hour. We booked the top recommended choice with tons of great reviews. The company was poor in communication. Coordinator said movers would come with a hand truck, but they arrived with nothing. The movers were inefficient, worked at a leisurely pace, and became annoyed when I assisted. Two professional movers took 3 hours to load a small NYC 1BR into a POD, of which my wife and I unloaded at our destination within 1 hour.

THIS COMPANY IS CRIMINAL! So to start off, the sales woman gave me a quote on the phone for $325, then said, "Oh sorry. Actually it's $480." .. When I asked why she said because she needs to hire “Professional movers”, when I pushed the issue and asked, "Aren’t they all professional movers," she changed it again and said, "Oh I actually found another for $445." .. She then proceeded to tell me that she is scheduling 3 hours and if I need more time it’s an extra $120 an hour. Then the movers get here, they are amazing, it took them exactly 2 hours.
After the move was done, I went online to give them a nice review and that's when I noticed my bill (my mistake for not checking this sooner) .. Their minimum is for 2 hours and the sales woman added an extra hour for $120. She didn’t ask me if I wanted the extra hour. She didn’t give me an option. She just decided for herself to charge me an extra $120 for an hour that I didn’t need knowing that I would not be able to get it refunded and knowing that if the movers went over the minimum they could have added the extra hour then. I called customer service to explain the mistake and they refuse to refund. I have clear proof from my security camera that the movers were only here for 2 hours and that their minimum is only 2 hours. DO NOT USE HIRE A HELPER!!!! Such a scam. Just call the movers directly, I highly recommend Crocs Movers, they were great.
