I’m 92 years old and I had experienced falling down and hurting my back. I thought a medical alert device might save my life and bought Splash. But I don’t use it except when I’m by myself at home. I feel more confident when I need to go out in the yard or the barn. I made one call when I needed some help getting up and they were very helpful. Although I don’t enjoy the device around my neck, it’s just a small consequence.

This GreatCall Splash 5Star with GoPlan is the best thing to come along since Peanut Butter!! I am so glad my neighbor friend told me about GreatCall. I was all set to sign up with Life Alert, at $69.99 a month for their Basic Med Alert service. GreatCall is so much better and at a fraction of the cost!! Now I hope it works as good as it showed in the videos.

My mother is 89 with arthritic hands. She fell and tried to use her GreatCall Splash. She was unable to press the button hard enough. We know she tried because there was blood all over the device from her cut fingers. I pressed it to make sure it was working and it was working. It is not that easy for an older person to use. She laid on the floor on her back for several hours until I stopped to check on her.
Eva, We are sorry to hear about your experience. We encourage all our uses to test the device upon completing activation to ensure that is manageable for their specific needs.

The people that I talked to at GreatCall were wonderful. As a matter of fact, I got a call from a man the other day telling me my debit card had run out in December, which I knew, and they gave me a new one. They didn't take anything out of my account for January and February, so he took it out for January, February, March. I've recommended it to my friend, and she actually immediately signed up.

I've had GreatCall Splash for over a year. I wear it all the time but I've never used it. I carry my cell phone in my pocket and then Splash alert and I always call my children when I need to. It’s just a little bit aggravating about having to charge it about every other day. But I would recommend Splash to anybody that needs it.

My GreatCall stays on the charger more than I wear it. However, I used it all day yesterday when I went to town so I had it on. I like the GPS part of it, since I go by myself sometimes. I don't use it every day but mostly if I'm traveling by myself. It's heavy to wear it hanging down. The only way that I can wear it comfortably and not bump it or get it in my way is just to hook it and wear it inside my bra. That's not gonna be the easiest way to get to it if I need it quickly but it's comforting to me to know it's there and I can take it with me.

I'm very happy and pleased with GreatCall Splash. I've recommended this device to several people. I live alone and I'm not getting younger and sometimes I'm afraid that I might accidentally press the button, but that hasn't happened yet. It's also less expensive than the one I had for my mother and that's ten or twelve years ago. I wear it on a gold chain around my neck everyday and charge it at night, and I have not had the misfortune to use it yet to call the police or ambulance. I live on a third-floor-walk up and we don't have elevators here. I have to walk up three flights of stairs and then down and if I fall down it would kill me so I'm glad to have it. They're also very efficient about updating their records, making sure that they know everything about me as far as how the authorities, police would get into my apartment. It's got a GPS system on it and that's really nice to know. I feel very secure having GreatCall.

My daughter lives ten miles away and my husband is now deceased so I got myself the GreatCall. I've been wearing mine to bed and I keep it on a leather string coz it doesn't cut into me so I wear it all the time and it rests right inside my clothes. I've heard from other people that some of their devices will go off if they're doing dishes or something. But this one, I don't even know I got it on. I just don't wear it in the shower and tie it on the shower door instead. It's good that I can get anybody when I want them. I test it out about once a month and demonstrated it to friends. In fact, my boyfriend got one too after I did. Everybody should have one and I wish they'd make some device for children too coz I have a great granddaughter I'm concerned about... And I could go for a smaller one too, like if they can make it prettier and smaller like a piece of jewelry...

I'm almost 80 years old and a few years ago I went down the basement steps on my back. The kids feel like since I'm here by myself, it's safer that I have a medical alert device. The first medical alert service I had, I started having some problems with it. They’d tell me one thing and then something else happens. It wouldn't work so I told them I was going to send it back. They were going to send me a new one but I didn't get it so I just filled out a form to send it back. I found the new device they sent on my front porch days later but I sent that back too. I wasn't satisfied with them. It was inside the house only and I couldn't get any help when I'm at a distance from the house.
But the GreatCall Splash works better. I’m in Richmond, Indiana and I go to my family doctors at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. It makes me feel much better being out on the road if something would happen, such as a flat tire or something. At my age, I couldn't change a flat tire so I need to get help. I’m pretty much at home but I keep it on me all the time around my neck and by my bedside. I haven't had to use it so far but it's handy and it's good to know it's right there with me.

GreatCall Splash is okay. I'm getting older and living by myself. With it, my family might feel a lot better, but not me. I haven't called on it and it's still running anyway. The team and I got along fine. My son helped set it up because I didn't quite understand all of it. Everything is fine except that if you screw up the piece you wear around your neck, you get a whole bunch of them hanging behind and it hangs down too low. I try to adjust that. I know how to change it, but then you get a gob behind after you adjust it and I don't like that. You can't cut that off because it unravels.

I called GreatCall and they said it was between Macy's and Walgreens, and I found it. It was real funny. However, I don't like the wristband and the one that goes around your neck. It's almost a year since I got GreatCall Splash and I thank God because so far I hadn't had to use it. I decided to get this device because three days after my husband passed away in April, I fell, cut my leg real bad, bust my head, and tore both of my arms in half. There was no way they could stitch the cut on my leg up because of my skin. I was taking aspirin and I had to stay off my foot for a while.
I also got this device for my daughter. She's handicapped and I'm having home help nurses to come out to check her vital signs, the pain, and things like that once in a while. The nurses were the people who suggested I get this alarm device. When I first set the device up the nurse was here to help. When we got it charged we called them and asked just to check it outside and inside the house. I understand that it works anywhere. I've been quite dizzy lately and I don't know the cause of it but I wake up staggering. Thankfully I haven't fallen yet. I keep my Greatcall alarm charged but there's no need at the moment.

I've fallen down enough and had to have my husband help me, but he wasn't always available. So in order to give him a little freedom to be able to leave me alone to go and do what he wants to, we bought a GreatCall Splash and a cellphone on me at all times. This way, he knows that while I have this around my neck and if I need help, I could get it by pressing the button. However, I think that it’s rather bulky, and inconvenient especially for a female. I think a male would have an easier time putting it on a belt buckle. I will have to take a necklace on, and it hangs off my bra inside my shirt. It’s always a lump underneath my bra, and if I go somewhere, I don’t know if people notice it or not. But if I have it turned to the outside, they’ll see the red light flashing, it’s kind of a pain in the **. I have difficulty keeping it on the chain and pinned to me all the time, and always seems to be in the way, but as long as it works if I need it, that’s all I care about.

I had another medical alert device earlier last year. I was so disappointed in it that I wanted to change. I fell one time out in the yard at the fence line, and I punched the button and they didn't even answer it. I had two real bad knees and I can't walk without a walker. I was also paying $50 a month and it wasn’t good for anything. So I tried switching to GreatCall. It makes it easier for me. Like where I'm at right now is down at the genealogical library, and I know if something happens here, if I need the paramedics or whatever, I can punch the button and they'll come in. It's one of the things that sold me - wherever I was, I was covered.
I've already used it once. When I needed them, they called paramedics. I stayed on the line with them until the paramedics got there. It worked out. The only thing is that I put it on when I get up in the morning and then put it in the charger when I go to bed. That's probably wrong because I should probably wear it all the time but it has to be charged once in a while. But I tell everybody that I see that with a fall, this is the kind to get.
Reviewed Feb. 10, 2015
Before getting GreatCall, I fell four times in one month. I went to the doctor and found out I had an imbalance in my ears which was causing this falling. I was falling so much and I was really scared. Meanwhile, a lot of my friends are breaking their hips. Three people I know have broken their hips and two others I know of had accidents where they hit their head and died. We also had major snowstorms and a lot of melting and ice and it's very scary to walk around outside. So I got this GreatCall Splash alert in the middle of December and I wear it around the house when I'm alone, especially when I go down to the basement. I also wear it when I go out, when I'm by myself in the car. I also wear it when I walk my dog because I'm always afraid I'm going to fall. I can fall on the ice. But I haven't fallen or been dizzy.
The only thing I have against it is it's very heavy to wear. It's also very noticeable because it's black. It's not like wearing a charm or a pendant. It's very obvious. By wearing it, you're telling people that you have problems and that you're relying on this in case you fall. It's giving a message that you have problems, that you have bad health. Thank goodness I've never used my medical alert -- never pushed the button because there's no need for it.

I’ve fallen in the shower and outside, and was unable to get up. I'm more confident now because I know no matter where I am, I can get help. My previous device was strictly for inside the house.
The only thing is that when I go to the bathroom at night and I'm charging it, I feel very insecure going down the dark hallway and into the bathroom without it because I've fallen in there. So what I've gotten into the habit of doing is picking up and putting it around my neck and I go to the bathroom. Then when I come back, I put it back in its cradle to charge it again. I don't know how long it takes to charge. I wear it all day and go to bed about ten, and then I charge it all night.

I live alone and I'm in my 80s. My family insisted that I get one. I had already gotten another alert system for my sister where if you fall, you can get help immediately. But that doesn't work for my lifestyle because I'm more independent. I go out the car, go to the grocery store, do short trips. But I don’t want to sit around 500 feet from the house all day. Then I saw an ad of GreatCall Splash Medical Alert on the TV. I chose to go with it because I thought it would give me more flexibility. My brother-in-law also got one for the same reason.
It's both pluses and minuses with this medical alert. I can see a real advantage if you're around in the area but not if you get out on the highway. I took a trip and drove down to West Virginia by myself. I knew where I was going. I knew all the protocols but as I was coming back, I pressed in twice onto the GreatCall Splash Medical Alert button because I wasn't convinced they knew where I was. The first time I pressed it going down, they got me almost to the spot but they couldn't quite find me. The second time, coming back, I called in again just to check if they could find me. They put me on a road called Great American and they said "you were on this particular road." I said, "Well, where am I in the road?" They said, "Well, we can't quite tell. You're someplace." This road was about 60 miles so that didn't help me much.
When I did those two calls as I was on the highway, the GreatCall Splash team was very annoyed at me. I didn't know any other way to check it. They said they can't do this so they hang up on me. How do you check something if you don't try it? So I wasn't happy with that because they couldn't find me. The other month, I had rested. I was out of range and it wouldn't work. It must be like the telephone where if you're out of range, your phone doesn't work. So right now I have mixed feelings about it.

So when I am not home with him and I have to run out, go to my therapy appointments, out in the yard or something, he wears it. And I know that if somebody is needed, he's got that on there and will alert whoever he needs to get a hold of. So far everything's been fine. And when he first tried using it, he did set it off once and they told us what he did wrong. It does make life a little bit easier. We've seen things on television a lot and everything about having one. Never thought we'd need it. But when we do have it, it's nice to know we have it. He charges it up like he's supposed to, knowing it's available to rely upon it if he needs it.

I’m glad I have it. It is very convenient and makes me feel secure. The GreatCall team has been very helpful when I have questions. I haven’t had to use it but it is a precaution for me to have that protection.

I was thinking about having one a long time because I never expected to live this long. One time I barely made it and called an ambulance. I thought that maybe it will be a good idea to have a medical device. I then saw GreatCall in one of the magazines and their price seems fair compared to some that are expensive. My girlfriend came and did the ordering. We were at the kitchen table and we had the phone on where everyone could speak and we were able to do it. I got everything in the mail and it's in my checking account. I leave it in my kitchen plugged in and it lights up. I received good service.

I wear my GreatCall all the time. Fortunately I haven't had to use it but I keep it with me and at night. I put it by my bed. I feel comfortable with it. I carry it everywhere I go. I wear mine in my jean pocket most of the time. I feel real safe with it and if I misplace it, I don't go to bed til I find it. I lost it one time and I couldn't find it. My son called in and they set it off for me. It was in my pocket in the closet. Very good experience and I'd recommend it.

My mother is 100 years old and she is here by herself sometimes, so we thought we need something to be more careful. Their staff was great. We filled out information needed for emergency over the phone and the interaction was fine. I'm glad she has it to use around her neck, that when she needs it she does have it. Help is just a push button away. My mother is a little bit more at ease knowing that she has GreatCall.

I used another service before but it only went 250 feet out of my house. I thought it would be a lot cheaper with GreatCall, but by the time everything got added on to it, it’s about the same price. I’m 81 years old and I live by myself with two dogs and two cats. I have my GreatCall in case I might need it. I charge it up at night, right close to my bed and put it in my pocket when I get up.

I wear it but I haven't had to use it, thank God. And my daughter is with me all the time. I'm 88 years old and have trouble with my balance. I'm glad to know it's there around my neck because I have fallen half a dozen times before and twice I have to lie quite a while before somebody was home. I really feel more secure with it.

I fell and broke my hip last summer, and I was in the nursing home for a while and I sure don't want to fall again that's why I got this. If I don't wear it, I have it in my pocket, in my bra, or in my purse. Sometimes I think it's a little big. I also don't like the chain with it so I bought a good silver chain to wear with it. I think a lot of people would like to have a better chain. That's my only concern. It's good not just in my house but in my yard. It's good everywhere, and that's what I like about it.

I have fallen several times and couldn't get up by myself that's why I needed GreatCall. But I'm having a great deal of trouble with this device because I find it quite heavy to wear around my neck and not everything I have has pockets. Most of my friends who had it wear their alert on a necklace but I just couldn't do that. But I'm more confident because I have it. And the one time I called, they were very prompt in getting the fireman to my house and that's my only experience so far. I would rate them great on service but mediocre or less on convenience because of the size and weight of this device.

I'm alone a lot of times and I always freak out. I also have asthma so if I should get an asthma attack and I'm in trouble, I'll have to use it. I really got it for situations when I'd be fearful like going to the movies which I could only do at night time. I have it on for safety in case someone would accost me. It's off when I'm in a house with an alarm system but when I'm out and about especially at night, I turn it on and have it with me. I rigged it up so it could be around my neck on a lanyard. What I like about it is I can go anywhere unlike some copycats which you have to be homebound. I can shut it off or have it on. It can be in my purse or I can put it around my neck and let it hang at times when I feel like I'm really scared.
When I set this up initially, it was late at night. I read the whole booklet twice to make sure that I'd be ready for any questions that they ask and when I called to set it up, there was a very nice gentleman that answered all of my questions. We got everything done except I needed some emergency phone numbers and things. So I had to call back in a day or two and do that. But everybody was very caring. Caring staff that wants to answer every question and will take as much time as you need to get your questions answered.

I already find it cumbersome to connect everything so I can wear it around my neck. It's not comfortable to wear. If you wear it outside your clothes, it's very ugly. I feel confident though when I have it but I don't put it on all the time.
Joan, We understand that everyone has their personal design preferences and are working hard to reduce the size for future designs while maintaining the integrity of the device functions. Thank you for your feedback.

I'm 74 and I've had a stroke, a heart attack, and colon cancer. My husband is 73 and he's deaf and mute. When I had the stroke, he didn't know what to do and so he went and got my son who is about five miles away. My son took me to the hospital, and I was lucky that I didn't have it worse than what it was. That's when my son and Tom said we were gonna get one of these devices. If I have one of these GreatCall things, then if something happens then my husband won't have to panic. All we have to do is press the button and an ambulance will come here.
We chose GreatCall because everyone else was so expensive. I really like the deal I got. The device is working great. The only thing is that when I put it on at night on the battery charger, it's behind my head and we have it plugged in. Maybe I should have gotten two of them, one for night and one for day.

GreatCall is just very great! I accidentally punched the button when I was down at the store one time getting in the car, and they said my first name and wanted to know if I was okay. I would like to suggest though that they make the things that go around the neck shorter for short people. Because I am very short, I just tuck it, pin it on my belt or around my waist and it's kind of uncomfortable. I'd rather hang it around my neck but it's a little awkward. Other than that, it's great. It's easy to set up and recharge, and I have a lot of friends that have one.
