So far, I'm not impressed with GreatCall. I downloaded the app from the Apple Store and received "Error Message 500" several times when I tried to connect. The Customer Service person was helpful enough and told me that it would take 2-3 business days to resolve the issue. Incredible! I will not recommend this company or its products to anyone.

I love the device. However, the accessory clip that attaches to the back of the device needs to be made out of metal. The small plastic piece that holds the clip to the main part of the accessory clip breaks too easily. Your supplier needs to be notified that this is an issue for your customers. This could cause someone to lose their device.

Last year I couldn’t walk for a couple of months. My legs were all swelled up so I thought I’d better get a medical alert device because I can’t rely on cell phones or land phones that much. Though I never have used it, the people at GreatCall are there and answer instantly. And the best part is the price. Most of the others ones are $35.

I am 90 years old and live by myself so I have GreatCall. It is comfortable to wear and easy to use. All you have to do is push a button. One time I was doing something and accidentally hit the button and the voice came and it shocked me. They asked if I was alright. That's how accurate they are. I would recommend it to anybody.

I haven't had to use my GreatCall for an emergency but when I check in to see that it's working, somebody always answers so I am satisfied. Every now and then it beeps and goes off, and then it comes back on and says Welcome and it's just kind of disconcerting.

I like GreatCall Splash. I had to get a different lanyard to put it on around my neck. I'm not afraid to walk or go downstairs anymore because I keep it around my neck. I really, really like it a lot. I should have done this a long time ago. I was just too, "Nah, I don't need it. I'll be fine, and dah, dah, dah." But no...I now appreciate it a whole lot and I'm glad I got it. I wish I had gotten it sooner. I have recommended GreatCall to a friend. She's a couple of years older than me and I told her that she and her husband needed one, and she said okay. I'd be happy if my review is going to help another senior citizen out there.

I recommend it to everybody I see because in the first place, it's not just local, it goes out. Secondly, I recently accidentally dropped it and my cell phone in the washing machine and it ruined my phone but it didn't do a thing to my GreatCall alarm. When they say it's water proof, it's water proof. I just love it! And another thing about it, they don't have those big old boxes that go with so many controls on them, because I have tried one or two medical alerts previously and they can't compare with Greatcall. I think it's fantastic.

I carry it around my neck and it's there. Sometimes the red light was showing and flashing instead of the green one and this happened a couple of times. I called their office and I was in the customer service and he told me what to do to get it working properly again. I've had fine service so far so I can't complain. Originally I have a few things that bothered me when I was getting it set up. Luckily I haven't had an emergency. I'm assuming that it's all in place in case I need it. Periodically I do check to see that we're connected, so to speak, in case of emergency.

I live alone so Greatcall gives me more peace of mind. One time when I pressed the button accidentally when I was cleaning, they answered and they asked me if there's emergency and I told her no, I just pressed it against the snow. They were real nice about it. I don't have a home phone so I feel good because I don't have to have that because I got this and this is less expensive than having a home phone! What I don't like though is the amount of time I have to charge it because I feel a little unsafe about charging it. I feel a little bit uncomfortable when I sleep at night without it.

The new Splash model works well as did the older unit but it has some Issues.
The Charger: The new charging station is unique and is not compatible with standard USB charging. It Requires that you be in a location where 120 volt AC wall plugins are available. So you cannot charge it in the car or from your computer - Big inconvenience! Secret note, there IS a micro USB charging connector located under a sealed panel just below the two charging pins. You have to pry off the panel to access it and the unit is probably no longer waterproof and that may void the warranty.
Battery Life: The battery life for the Splash unit [about three days] is about half that of the older model [ 6 to 7 days].
Design: The older model had a place to attach a lanyard loop string on the main body of the unit so that you could hang it around your neck. The new Splash unit forces you to attach a very bulky belt clip to the unit and attach the neck lanyard to the belt clip. The belt clip increases the unit thickness by 50% and has some very uncomfortable protrusions.
I still use it because it is the best system out there right now but these issues need to be addressed in future releases.

GreatCall Splash saved my life the first 12 hours I bought it. I thought I wouldn’t make it to the hospital without it and I was there for 30 days. I got the alert device because I live alone since my wife passed away a couple of years ago and I ride the motorcycle a lot so I like the idea of being able to contact somebody if I go down. I take my GreatCall Splash everywhere - restaurants, doctor visits, meeting with friends, markets, stores. Thank God I don't have to use it yet. I hope the moment that I need it, Greatcall is going to be there. The only concern that I have is when I push the button, they would know where I am even if I don't talk (right?). The reason why I bought it is for my son who has a problem. I can protect him but he cannot protect me. He gets nervous sometimes and he doesn’t know how to react well. I'm concerned that if something happens to me I hope he knows how to talk to the people at Greatcall...and if he cannot, I hope Greatcall can help him right away. I hope that he can talk at that moment because he gets nervous and paranoid sometimes whenever something happens to me. I'm recommending it to everybody. Their monthly service is not that bad but I hope they don't increase the fee.

I don't actually need a medical alert device at the moment because I'm very fit. However, there's always a possibility that I'll fall so I got GreatCall. It's very easy to use though I'm forgetting to put it in the charger overnight and I'm wondering how long the battery lasts. I clip it to my belt or I'd pop it in my pocket whereas the other systems have got this great big thing sitting beside your telephone. Also, price-wise, it's good compared to others. It's marvelous. I have put leaflets around in our library downstairs so, hopefully, people pick them up and read about GreatCall. I recommended it to a very dear friend and they also bought it.

Getting GreatCall was a good decision. I never had to use it yet but I find it convenient. Since having it I have fewer worries -- I keep it by the bed so if I have to use it, it's right there. It sits by my bed or I carry it in a pocket or in my purse.

I thought the necklace (black cord) was ugly. I changed mine and used one of my silver chains. It's much smaller and more feminine. I would like it better if the actual unit was smaller, but I can live with this size. I don't notice it when it's on so I use it regularly.

GreatCall Splash is great. This morning I had it with me when I bumped against the cabinet as I was walking by, and dropped it. It came off, slipped and fell and came on immediately. I told the girl, whoever was calling me, what happened, that it came on, on its own. It worked just fine. One of my friends in Stinnett had this medical alert device and she suggested that I get it too. I've never really liked it because I've never used it. It's too big to go around your neck or wrist so I just clip it on the side of my large slacks. I haven't ever had to use it yet. I've recommended it to three women that live here in this retirement center where I'm at and I know that one of them is going to buy it.

1st monitor activated 11/29/'13. Oct. '14, the clip broke and there was no way to attach the monitor to pants. Reimburse thru plan from Walmart. 2nd one purchased 12/14/'14. CLIP broke in Jan.'15. Very poor CLIP...no way to attach it. When CLIP was opened to put on belt, it stays in the stretch position. When taken off the belt, it does not return to closed. There is no 'spring' action. Walmart did not have a replacement plan. After talking to Great Call, I was given a link which was no good. so I could not buy a replacement plan on new one.
The CHARGER is inferior to the first one we received. The monitor wouldn't fit in charger. I put a rubber band on to hold it against charger. Now, the monitor can only be carried in my husband's pocket. If he falls, is he going to remember where it is? Up to this point, it has been visible. KEY CHAIN worked good but the clasp to hook on belt loop was too small, so we took a key ring and put it on the belt loop, then clipped the clasp to the belt loop and monitor hung down to the pocket. We felt that was the best solution. However, after everything broke off at once, he carries it in his pocket. Recommendations: Go back to the charger that we first had. Improve that clip with spring action and stronger plastic.
Kathleen, Thank you for feedback, we count on our customers to let us know what is not working for them. In reviewing our current clip, I have found that it does maintain the spring action unless it is stretched back in a manner that exceeds the flexibility of the clip. If the clip is not compromised, then the device, with the clip attached will rest in the charging cradle with no problem and will not prevent the device from being charged. The clip is designed so that you do not need to pull it back and open it in order to slide it onto a belt or clothing.

I got a medical alert device because I kept falling. I once fell and laid on the bathroom floor for three hours before a neighbor heard me. When the paramedics came, they were advertising this alert. I’m very happy to have this and it’s a lifesaver. I don’t wear it though because it’s too heavy. I called one day and I asked the girl if I could go down to the $14 one and she told me no. She said that you took out this program and that’s what you have to go by. They charge me 16 something last month.

I like GreatCall a lot better compared to a different medical device that I used and also because it has the GPS system. I feel more freedom in moving around in and out of my apartment. I’m an 84-year old elderly with some health problems, who live alone, so I decided to get one. They’ve been good to me and I don’t have any problems with them. The only thing I don’t like is that it’s so big. Wish I could wear it around my neck; instead I have to carry it in my pocket. If I don’t have pockets I’m in trouble so that is a little inconvenient.

I'm a diabetic and I passed out a few times so I needed a medical alert device. I was on First Alert before, but that only reaches to four hundred feet from the base unit and I live in an apartment building, so if I go to the library or to play or listen to music, which is down on the first floor and I'm on the seventh floor, it didn't work. I saw the ad for GreatCall Splash and I thought, "Looks like a good deal to me." Now I have fewer worries knowing my alert device reaches farther. The people at GreatCall have always been very helpful, because I've called a couple of times when I was probably forty miles away from home and they could tell me exactly where it was, which made me feel real good.
I just clip the medical alert device on my blouse or my T-shirt, so it's right in front and it's visible to everybody. I've told everybody here that if I start acting funny, like my blood sugar is going low, to push that green button...You'll get an ambulance quick. They're a great company and you've got a great person representing the company, John Walsh. He was part of the reason that I felt comfortable getting this one, because I've watched his TV show for so many years and he's done so much good. He seems like a very honest, upfront person. I just thought, "Well, if he's going to represent this product, it's got to be a good one." I have recommended it to a few people around here. It's been great and I'm very happy with it.

I've had no problems at all getting any questions answered or to order any extra things that I wanted. Being a woman, I didn't like the lanyard cause it was a little short and I don't have pockets all the time. It’s too big to wear it as a watch so I bought a gold chain and I made it long enough that I can tuck it into my brassiere. The good thing about it is I haven't had to use it. I already recommended it.

I haven’t had to use it, thank goodness, but I feel a lot more secure now. Took me a while to get used to it but it don't bother me anymore and I wear it a lot.

GreatCall Splash is okay. I'm getting older and living by myself. With it, my family might feel a lot better, but not me. I haven't called on it and it's still running anyway. The team and I got along fine. My son helped set it up because I didn't quite understand all of it. Everything is fine except that if you screw up the piece you wear around your neck, you get a whole bunch of them hanging behind and it hangs down too low. I try to adjust that. I know how to change it, but then you get a gob behind after you adjust it and I don't like that. You can't cut that off because it unravels.

I called GreatCall and they said it was between Macy's and Walgreens, and I found it. It was real funny. However, I don't like the wristband and the one that goes around your neck. It goes clear down to my navel and dangles around. I wish I could hook it around my neck instead of putting the rope around my neck. GreatCall is great whenever I call them, but isn’t the best little piece of equipment.

It's almost a year since I got GreatCall Splash and I thank God because so far I hadn't had to use it. I decided to get this device because three days after my husband passed away in April, I fell, cut my leg real bad, bust my head, and tore both of my arms in half. There was no way they could stitch the cut on my leg up because of my skin. I was taking aspirin and I had to stay off my foot for a while.
I also got this device for my daughter. She's handicapped and I'm having home help nurses to come out to check her vital signs, the pain, and things like that once in a while. The nurses were the people who suggested I get this alarm device. When I first set the device up the nurse was here to help. When we got it charged we called them and asked just to check it outside and inside the house. I understand that it works anywhere. I've been quite dizzy lately and I don't know the cause of it but I wake up staggering. Thankfully I haven't fallen yet. I keep my Greatcall alarm charged but there's no need at the moment.

So in order to give him a little freedom to be able to leave me alone to go and do what he wants to, we bought a GreatCall Splash and a cellphone on me at all times. This way, he knows that while I have this around my neck and if I need help, I could get it by pressing the button. However, I think that it’s rather bulky, and inconvenient especially for a female. I think a male would have an easier time putting it on a belt buckle. I will have to take a necklace on, and it hangs off my bra inside my shirt. It’s always a lump underneath my bra, and if I go somewhere, I don’t know if people notice it or not. But if I have it turned to the outside, they’ll see the red light flashing, it’s kind of a pain in the **. I had another medical alert device earlier last year. I was so disappointed in it that I wanted to change. I fell one time out in the yard at the fence line, and I punched the button and they didn't even answer it. I had two real bad knees and I can't walk without a walker. I was also paying $50 a month and it wasn’t good for anything. So I tried switching to GreatCall. It makes it easier for me. Like where I'm at right now is down at the genealogical library, and I know if something happens here, if I need the paramedics or whatever, I can punch the button and they'll come in. It's one of the things that sold me - wherever I was, I was covered.
I've already used it once. When I needed them, they called paramedics. I stayed on the line with them until the paramedics got there. It worked out. The only thing is that I put it on when I get up in the morning and then put it in the charger when I go to bed. That's probably wrong because I should probably wear it all the time but it has to be charged once in a while. But I tell everybody that I see that with a fall, this is the kind to get.

Before getting GreatCall, I fell four times in one month. I went to the doctor and found out I had an imbalance in my ears which was causing this falling. I was falling so much and I was really scared. Meanwhile, a lot of my friends are breaking their hips. Three people I know have broken their hips and two others I know of had accidents where they hit their head and died. We also had major snowstorms and a lot of melting and ice and it's very scary to walk around outside. So I got this GreatCall Splash alert in the middle of December and I wear it around the house when I'm alone, especially when I go down to the basement. I also wear it when I go out, when I'm by myself in the car. I also wear it when I walk my dog because I'm always afraid I'm going to fall. I can fall on the ice. But I haven't fallen or been dizzy.
The only thing I have against it is it's very heavy to wear. It's also very noticeable because it's black. It's not like wearing a charm or a pendant. It's very obvious. By wearing it, you're telling people that you have problems and that you're relying on this in case you fall. It's giving a message that you have problems, that you have bad health. Thank goodness I've never used my medical alert -- never pushed the button because there's no need for it.

The only thing is that when I go to the bathroom at night and I'm charging it, I feel very insecure going down the dark hallway and into the bathroom without it because I've fallen in there. So what I've gotten into the habit of doing is picking up and putting it around my neck and I go to the bathroom. Then when I come back, I put it back in its cradle to charge it again. I live alone and I'm in my 80s. My family insisted that I get one. I had already gotten another alert system for my sister where if you fall, you can get help immediately. But that doesn't work for my lifestyle because I'm more independent. I go out the car, go to the grocery store, do short trips. But I don’t want to sit around 500 feet from the house all day. Then I saw an ad of GreatCall Splash Medical Alert on the TV. I chose to go with it because I thought it would give me more flexibility. My brother-in-law also got one for the same reason.
It's both pluses and minuses with this medical alert. I can see a real advantage if you're around in the area but not if you get out on the highway. I took a trip and drove down to West Virginia by myself. I knew where I was going. I knew all the protocols but as I was coming back, I pressed in twice onto the GreatCall Splash Medical Alert button because I wasn't convinced they knew where I was. The first time I pressed it going down, they got me almost to the spot but they couldn't quite find me. The second time, coming back, I called in again just to check if they could find me. They put me on a road called Great American and they said "you were on this particular road." I said, "Well, where am I in the road?" They said, "Well, we can't quite tell. You're someplace." This road was about 60 miles so that didn't help me much.
When I did those two calls as I was on the highway, the GreatCall Splash team was very annoyed at me. I didn't know any other way to check it. They said they can't do this so they hang up on me. How do you check something if you don't try it? So I wasn't happy with that because they couldn't find me. The other month, I had rested. I was out of range and it wouldn't work. It must be like the telephone where if you're out of range, your phone doesn't work. So right now I have mixed feelings about it.
Margaret, You are correct that the Splash device uses cell towers so that you can connect to someone and speak with them through the device. If wireless coverage is not available then you cannot be connected. We are sorry that we were unable to get an approximate fix on your location while you were driving on the freeway. Had there been an emergency that you were reporting, we would ask follow up questions to help narrow down your location.
