The only thing that mom Thelma ** does not seem to like is that the device is heavier than the LifeLine she had before. The only thing I am uncomfortable with is that my mom has to take it off to charge it. I understand that it has to be charged but my mom will lay it down beside the charger without charging it and then she has to wait until I get there to check on her to charge it plus wait for the charge to complete. During this time she does not have it on her person. If she falls it won't detect the fall while it is not around her neck. It seems to me there should be some way around this problem. She has some dementia and I worry when I see the device is low on battery or I go to her house and find it on the table beside her. Is there a wrist band that works and is waterproof that will give the same service? I could be happy and recommend the service if these issues were addressed. Thanks.

I got my mother a Jitterbug in 2003, and she's loved it. Mother has severe dementia, and the simplicity of the phone was wonderful. However, about 30 days ago, she dropped her phone in a puddle, and it was destroyed. I ordered a new Jitterbug for her at a cost of about $100. I did not enable the 5Star emergency feature because I knew she'd push it. Well... She does push it, and a question appears on the screen "5Star not activated. Do you wish to call 911? Y? or N?" The police have been out four times, and the last time, suggested I try to deactivate that feature. I called and was unable to do that, but was told so I decided to switch services, get her a new phone. I have been on hold for 25 minutes. Not a happy customer.
Ms. Smith, We are sorry about the wait time. Our call volume has increased faster than we can fill the seats to answer the calls. Please keep in ind that we are available everyday, including holidays and weekends, between 4am and 11pm pacific time. The hold time is significantly lower in the early morning and evening. If you have not already spoken with us, please call when it is most convenient. -Abel, GreatCall Operations

Without a doubt, these are the biggest crooks in town. Great Call advertises itself as a combination cell phone/medical alert device, with monthly plans starting at $14.99. Once you buy the phone, you'll find out that if you want the medical alert working, you'll have to go with the $39.99 plan as a minimum. When you get the bill, the final amount will be close to $55.00! On my phone, the medical alert stopped working and I didn't find out about it until 2 weeks went by. They even tried to bill me for this time period.
Then, the phone stopped receiving text messages. At this same time, my landlord was texting all his tenants, telling them to call an emergency locksmith immediately. (His son had gotten badly addicted to meth and was burglarizing the apartments with a cohort. They had the keys to all the apartments.) Thanks to Great Call, I could've lost all my valuables, including my car. Worse still, I could've been the victim of a home-invasion style robbery. Thanks, Great Call!

I love the GreatCall 5 Star Service, but I've had SEVERAL problems with the belt clip that is no longer called a belt clip because of the problems. I've broken several of them and nearly lost my device twice. I believe I've gone through about 5 of the clips. Some were free of charge and some I've had to pay for at $10.00 a piece. Two were broken while attached to my belt before a warning was attached saying not to use them as a belt clip. The second time the device itself broke where it attaches to the clip and I had the device itself replaced. One clip was broken while clipping it on my T shirt collar and one was broken while wearing it on my wrist band. I'm 75 years old, so I don't believe I'm physically abusing them. PLEASE design a stronger metal clip and device part it clips to. Thank you for your kind attention to this matter.
David, We have two clips, one is a belt/accessory clip and the one that says "not to be used as a belt clip" is specifically for use with the wristband. We hope that this helps to clear up your concern.

I have been receiving pictures that I took with my phone that are being sent to my phone. I have never texted or shared pictures with anyone. I have called them several times about this problem. For some reason I receive 10 free text per month. Last month there were 14 used and I was charged forty cents, which they credited back to my account. This month (I have 12 days left). It shows I have used 11. Each time I've called have told them to block all text to and from our phones, (BOY THAT WORKED WELL). I have most likely spent over two hours on the phone, getting through to someone to talk to, explaining my problem, waiting for them to check it out, and trying to resolve it. Yesterday after spending close to an hour, I elected to have a tech call me back. They said one would call me in 24 to 48 hours. The last time I was told this it took over a week to receive their call. Great Call my **!!!

I do not recommend this company. I purchased a phone for my father. The sales staff was very convincing. Once my father received the phone (he recently lost most of his vision) he didn't understand how to use it. Customer service never picked up and when they did, their system was not working and the operators could not hear me. I tried to send an email to the one email address on their site pr@greatcall.com and it bounced back.
Vanessa, Please use the "Contact Us" feature on the website and select "Customer Service" from the drop down menu, the PR email that you have referenced is clearly marked for "Press Inquiries" and the individuals that would receive this would not have the ability to access your customer account. You can also call us at 1-800-733-6632, we are available everyday between 4am and 11pm pacific time. We look forward to assisting you.
Update: Vanessa, We have located your account and have determined that you were able to connect to a representative over the phone. We also show that a Customer Service supervisor has graciously offered to call and assist your father with his phone. We know that not a lot of companies would offer to do this and hope that we can assist him with getting acclimated to his first smart phone.

I like having my Splash. It just gives me more security knowing in case something happens I'll get a quick response. I have a habit of falling for one thing. I've got a walker now, but I still have issues about which causes my falling seizures. I know the Splash doesn't cost much money but words alone can't explain because my friend also has the same kind. It's waterproof as well. You can go outdoors when it's sunny. It won't get banged against something because I don't even know if it could stand the impact. I hope it doesn't have to go through that test to find out though. Overall, I would highly recommend it. This was a good investment.

I'm happy to say I haven't had to use my Splash other than the test call when I first got it. I'm elderly, I live alone and I have some medical problems. There are three major suppliers of this kind of a device, and I didn't like being tied to a contract within a year. I like that it's very small and I can wear it on my wrist or around my neck. It has a GPS system so I'm not tied to the phone as a base to switch emergency calls. When I first set it up and activated it, I had to make a test call and they immediately asked if everything was all right. They said, "I see that you're in your home." They again had me repeat at the end that I was fine, that it was a test call. I go out and I keep it on the charger at night right next to the bed because I can reach 9-1-1. It’s good for emergency if you think somebody’s breaking in the house and things like that. I spoke to one of my neighbor’s and she also just got a Splash.

I am considered as a fall risk and I have a very bad back. I don't have anyone here most of the time that could get to me if I needed help because my husband has dementia. That's why my daughter picked GreatCall Splash for me. I have one complaint about it though. It does not hang right on you without the button getting pushed all the time. Every time I lean up against the sink or up against the washer or dryer, the button gets pushed. I've had to make some new things to fasten onto. But it gives me more confidence in getting a hold of somebody if needed.

One winter, I broke my ankle and I had nothing on me to call for help. That was when I decided to have a medical alert device. Originally, I went with Lifeline but it is very restrictive - you can only go a hundred yards around your home. I had Greatcall Splash because I needed a device that would allow me more independence, comfort, and still feel safe. It is pretty convenient - I have the charger by my bed and then when I get up, I put the device on. I like that my children can find me if I am in trouble. I have not used it yet, thank God. But, I love it and I recommend it to everybody, especially to older people.

GreatCall is a heck of a lot nicer than ADT which I was with for years. The fact that I can talk to somebody has been great, and it's small enough to sit in the pocket. It doesn’t take up that much room. I’m charging it all night long when I need to, I put it in my pocket, and off I go. I always have somebody with me. I’m very, very pleased with it so I can’t say enough about it.
I know a couple of people who have turned around and bought them too. I'm a senior citizen living alone. I had fallen and broke my hip. I was out of the perimeter and for me to know whether or not they've got my signal, I got my neighbor to come over and I gave her the button and I said, "Push the button and an ID key will come on.” I asked them if they got my signal and they said yes. The thing that sold me on it really is the fact that I have seen John Walsh over the years and what he’s gone through with his son’s experience. Who else could you trust any better than John Walsh? So that’s why I went over to GreatCall.
I had a recent interaction from someone at GreatCall who made a little mistake. I called because I have a 24-hour, seven days a week for a doctor or a nurse, and that's what I called to get and the guy didn't understand and he sent the ambulance. But that's okay. The firemen were really all great and they took me out to the emergency room anyway, so it worked out all right. But other than that, I like that GreatCall Splash just gives me the ease of living; knowing that I've got somebody at my fingertips. I think they're local. This last one, I had a rash. I still do. I'm still in bed with it. They notified my son and my daughter at the same time. That helps, too, so I don’t have to have the cost of flying. This one calls, and that one calls, so that was that. My kids are having a ball with the free apps too. I'm just very happy with it. It's fantastic.

I constantly have terrible vertigo; in fact, I just had a very lengthy vertigo test this morning and my doctors are trying to get to the bottom of it. So because I've had several falls or near-falls, my husband felt that it would be a good idea that I had something that in case I was out and fell, I could call for help. Plus I have other multiple health issues that make it a little harder for me to get around than a normal person. My husband is very caring and he makes sure that I wear my GreatCall necklace when I'm out and about. I do wear it since I take my bath in the morning and I don't take it off until I put my pajamas on at night.
If I'm ever out driving or out in the yard, I can call for help if I need to. It makes me feel more secure. I just fit it around my neck and don't think about it. It doesn't bother me. We have recommended GreatCall Splash to other people who may be living alone. My husband has an aunt who's going to be 92 in June. Of course, he recommended it to her because she still lives alone. We also do recommend it in our Sunday school class; there are a lot of senior adults there, and he told them about it.

Everyday, I'm concerned about my age and the fact that I'm living alone led me to need a medical alert device. A year ago, I tripped in my house and fell. I was okay but I realized that my nearest phone was in the next room on the wall, and the other phones were in the bedroom – that’s what made me think I needed something. Several of my friends had gotten GreatCall so I went with this and have recommended it to numerous people. Since using GreatCall Splash, I feel more secure though I haven’t needed it and I take it with me at all times. I live in an independent living community, and I wish I had a way to convince other people to use it. Most of them don't seem to care, so that's the way it is. I read through it and gave it to my daughter and we just decided that we were going to try it. I get it in its charger every night. I like carrying it in my pants pocket as long as I have a pocket and if I don't I have the necklace. I bought a necklace that I put it on and I wear it on me inside. The other night a voice came on. I picked it up and pressed the button and a gentleman answered and seemed to know nothing about this call I had in the middle of the night. He asked if I there was an emergency or was I alright and I said I was. I am satisfied with it knowing that if I press the button somebody is there.

I haven't needed to use GreatCall for an emergency. I just keep it with me wherever I go and I keep the battery up. My son has one also and he did have to use it. I'm 88 and I live alone, so I have been considering for a long time that I probably should have a medical alert device, and I have people who have been nagging me about why I haven't done something about it. So I researched all of them and I decided that this was best for me because it covers a large area if I went out with it. I knew I could take it with me wherever I went.
Before using GreatCall Splash, I haven't used another medical alert device. I have friends who have all different kinds. But most of them just cover them in their home and immediately near their home. But I go a distance away from home. And since I don't drive anymore, I walk to the store, bank or post office, which is about three and a half blocks from here. So I'm out there walking. I'm not within the house area, that's why I decided that this one was better for me because it has a GPS and I could push that button wherever I happen to be.
I carry it with me and I don't wear it around my neck because it's a little too heavy and bulky, so I usually have it with me within reach. I was told that they have something that could be worn like a bracelet but I didn't check into that yet. I have recommended it to my son and he got it. And then just recently, I recommended it to my friend who lives in Ohio and he got it. I told him to be sure to tell the company that I recommended it because I understand I get a reward for it. So we'll see what happens.

I know he's busy so instead of continually putting the burden onto him and making him feel guilty when I say something, I just decided to go this route of having a medical alert device which would be a lot more reliable.
Since having GreatCall I feel a lot more independent because I know it can reach places that a device which had a home base wouldn't be able to reach. That's what I wanted because my hometown is about three and a half hours from here and I travel there quite a bit. There are certain restrictions that I have with my life with my medical problems. It's the way some upgrades like this device has which makes it a lot easier to use. For instance, I go back on the app probably two or three times a week to check and make sure everything's okay and everything's operating well. It seems to be doing that. Having the app available is nice because you don't have to make any cell phone calls. You just go in your phone. So far I haven't had any problems with GreatCall Splash. It's my first medical alert service, though I am somewhat familiar with some of the older ones. My mother, when she was still alive, had one of the ones that they had to come in and modify her landline and she was restricted to just around the house area. I like Greatcall because it's wireless. A lot of people are restricted to around their house and that wasn't what I wanted, so this one is fabulous for me. My biggest concern more than anything else is when I retired, I lived by myself and just wasn't around a lot of people. I am in a big apartment complex and only have one person living below me and if something happens then, how would I have ever contacted anybody?
I've had one interaction with the GreatCall team by accident. I had it clipped on my belt and was bagging groceries, and I must have inadvertently pushed the button. I didn't realize it the first second or two. The team was friendly and courteous. I explained to them what had happened and that I had no problems. I was safe around a lot of people. After that I was a lot more careful with it.

I was always concerned of falling and not being able to get to a phone. Since using GreatCall, I never feel alone. One time, I accidentally pressed on it. Before I could say anything, they were right there, which is a lot faster than on the telephone. I was very pleased with that. The device is also comfortable and easy to use. I get up in the morning to get it off my charger and put it around my neck, take my shower and I have it nearby in case I fall in the tub. But I don't wear it there because I don't want the cord to get all wet. I feel very, very good and safe about it. I have and I would recommend it.

I just have it on in case and I'm still on a cane so that's really what I still depend on more than having to call for help because I'm still working on balance and physical therapy. I'd recommend it. There are so many people that need it and so many people I've talked to because of the fact that it's actually GPS. Tried it again, same thing. I started panicking again and said to the customer service man on the line from Great Call, “what do I do, what do I do”. He disconnected the phone call. I called the company, told them, “I want to return this product”. I returned it.
It has been in their warehouse for 5 days now. They have not even processed it yet. It takes 21 days from the time it is processed for your payment to go back to your card. I cannot even get another one from a good company until I get my refund back from them because I am on a fixed income. I have called every day to try to speed up the process but with no luck. I am going to put in a dispute with my credit card company to get my money back. It could sit in their warehouse forever. Every time I call, I am on hold for at least 10 min. I hooked to the phone and I could hear it from ground level but if I was outside, no one could hear it or down in the basement so it really was not that useful. It actually was also more than what I was paying for so with all those things, the switch to Splash was kind of a no-brainer.
With them, I feel like I can be more independent. I can go out by myself and know that my family doesn't have to worry about me. The only problem I have with it is I have not been able to do much online because my hands don't work. I just have never had any occasion that I had to use it but if such thing came up then I would really appreciate it. I keep it in my pocket and it’s secured in there with a fastener. I have learned to be sure that the button is towards my body because one time I leaned against something and accidentally pressed the button.

So far, I'm not impressed with GreatCall. I downloaded the app from the Apple Store and received "Error Message 500" several times when I tried to connect. The Customer Service person was helpful enough and told me that it would take 2-3 business days to resolve the issue. Incredible! I will not recommend this company or its products to anyone.

I love the device. However, the accessory clip that attaches to the back of the device needs to be made out of metal. The small plastic piece that holds the clip to the main part of the accessory clip breaks too easily. Your supplier needs to be notified that this is an issue for your customers. This could cause someone to lose their device.

I like GreatCall Splash. I had to get a different lanyard to put it on around my neck. I'm not afraid to walk or go downstairs anymore because I keep it around my neck. I really, really like it a lot. I should have done this a long time ago. I was just too, "Nah, I don't need it. I'll be fine, and dah, dah, dah." But no...I now appreciate it a whole lot and I'm glad I got it. I wish I had gotten it sooner. I have recommended GreatCall to a friend. I recommend it to everybody I see because in the first place, it's not just local, it goes out. Secondly, I recently accidentally dropped it and my cell phone in the washing machine and it ruined my phone but it didn't do a thing to my GreatCall alarm. When they say it's water proof, it's water proof. I just love it! And another thing about it, they don't have those big old boxes that go with so many controls on them, because I have tried one or two medical alerts previously and they can't compare with Greatcall. I think it's fantastic.

I called their office and I was in the customer service and he told me what to do to get it working properly again. I've had fine service so far so I can't complain. Originally I have a few things that bothered me when I was getting it set up. Luckily I haven't had an emergency. I'm assuming that it's all in place in case I need it. Periodically I do check to see that we're connected, so to speak, in case of emergency.

They were real nice about it. I don't have a home phone so I feel good because I don't have to have that because I got this and this is less expensive than having a home phone! The new Splash model works well as did the older unit but it has some Issues.
The Charger: The new charging station is unique and is not compatible with standard USB charging. It Requires that you be in a location where 120 volt AC wall plugins are available. So you cannot charge it in the car or from your computer - Big inconvenience! Secret note, there IS a micro USB charging connector located under a sealed panel just below the two charging pins. You have to pry off the panel to access it and the unit is probably no longer waterproof and that may void the warranty.
Battery Life: The battery life for the Splash unit [about three days] is about half that of the older model [ 6 to 7 days].
Design: The older model had a place to attach a lanyard loop string on the main body of the unit so that you could hang it around your neck. The new Splash unit forces you to attach a very bulky belt clip to the unit and attach the neck lanyard to the belt clip. The belt clip increases the unit thickness by 50% and has some very uncomfortable protrusions.
I still use it because it is the best system out there right now but these issues need to be addressed in future releases.

The reason why I bought it is for my son who has a problem. I can protect him but he cannot protect me. He gets nervous sometimes and he doesn’t know how to react well. I'm concerned that if something happens to me I hope he knows how to talk to the people at Greatcall...and if he cannot, I hope Greatcall can help him right away. It's very easy to use though I'm forgetting to put it in the charger overnight and I'm wondering how long the battery lasts. I clip it to my belt or I'd pop it in my pocket whereas the other systems have got this great big thing sitting beside your telephone. Also, price-wise, it's good compared to others. It's marvelous. I told the girl, whoever was calling me, what happened, that it came on, on its own. It worked just fine. One of my friends in Stinnett had this medical alert device and she suggested that I get it too. I've never really liked it because I've never used it. It's too big to go around your neck or wrist so I just clip it on the side of my large slacks. I haven't ever had to use it yet. I've recommended it to three women that live here in this retirement center where I'm at and I know that one of them is going to buy it.

1st monitor activated 11/29/'13. Oct. '14, the clip broke and there was no way to attach the monitor to pants. Reimburse thru plan from Walmart. 2nd one purchased 12/14/'14. CLIP broke in Jan.'15. Very poor CLIP...no way to attach it. When CLIP was opened to put on belt, it stays in the stretch position. When taken off the belt, it does not return to closed. There is no 'spring' action. Walmart did not have a replacement plan. After talking to Great Call, I was given a link which was no good. so I could not buy a replacement plan on new one.
The CHARGER is inferior to the first one we received. The monitor wouldn't fit in charger. I put a rubber band on to hold it against charger. Now, the monitor can only be carried in my husband's pocket. If he falls, is he going to remember where it is? Up to this point, it has been visible. KEY CHAIN worked good but the clasp to hook on belt loop was too small, so we took a key ring and put it on the belt loop, then clipped the clasp to the belt loop and monitor hung down to the pocket. We felt that was the best solution. However, after everything broke off at once, he carries it in his pocket. Recommendations: Go back to the charger that we first had. Improve that clip with spring action and stronger plastic.
Kathleen, Thank you for feedback, we count on our customers to let us know what is not working for them. In reviewing our current clip, I have found that it does maintain the spring action unless it is stretched back in a manner that exceeds the flexibility of the clip. If the clip is not compromised, then the device, with the clip attached will rest in the charging cradle with no problem and will not prevent the device from being charged. The clip is designed so that you do not need to pull it back and open it in order to slide it onto a belt or clothing.

I'm a diabetic and I passed out a few times so I needed a medical alert device. I was on First Alert before, but that only reaches to four hundred feet from the base unit and I live in an apartment building, so if I go to the library or to play or listen to music, which is down on the first floor and I'm on the seventh floor, it didn't work. I saw the ad for GreatCall Splash and I thought, "Looks like a good deal to me." Now I have fewer worries knowing my alert device reaches farther. The people at GreatCall have always been very helpful, because I've called a couple of times when I was probably forty miles away from home and they could tell me exactly where it was, which made me feel real good.
I just clip the medical alert device on my blouse or my T-shirt, so it's right in front and it's visible to everybody. I've told everybody here that if I start acting funny, like my blood sugar is going low, to push that green button...You'll get an ambulance quick. They're a great company and you've got a great person representing the company, John Walsh. He was part of the reason that I felt comfortable getting this one, because I've watched his TV show for so many years and he's done so much good. He seems like a very honest, upfront person. Being a woman, I didn't like the lanyard cause it was a little short and I don't have pockets all the time.
