I am a really easy customer and always give 5 stars to the products I purchased as long as it is OK or so so. Can you imagine how to make a mild person upset? Viasat did. If I can, I will give Viasat a negative star because I have never seen an American business make a profit like them. It ended up robbing people! I do not want to talk about their internet speed. You do not have many options when you live in the countryside. I just want to tell you my true experience with them. Be very careful about your final bill! Cancel one month in advance to avoid paying them a whole extra month that you do not need! They rob people without a doubt and the customer service is for their convenience and NOT for you.
To make a long story short. I purchased their product called Unlimited Gold 50 on October 28th, 2021 and it made the day 28th became the service activation day. They billed me on November 7th, 2021 for the period from October 28th to November 28th. After their three-month promotion price, I paid $222.66 in 2022 and $223.20 in 2023 monthly until I had to cancel this service five months earlier than the two-year contract ended. Yes, I agree to pay the five-month early cancellation fee. it is no problem because it is a normal way to do the early termination of the contract in the business field. 99.9% of businesses in America charge their customers reasonably but Viasat does not. They rob you at the end! They told me that they cannot control their computer.
The computers give them the authorization that they cannot change! I called them on May 28th, 2022 to cancel the service that it is the exact activation day 19 months ago. The customer agent told me that their billing department was not at work on that day and asked me to call the next day. I called again on May 29th and they told me my bill for the next period(May 28th to June 28th) was already generated by computer. They cannot change anything I must pay the extra month for the service I already cancelled. They said they cannot do anything on their side. And then they said they can give me 50% off if I decide to stay with their service. It is ridiculous, isn’t it? Hope my experience is helpful for your decision.

We paid a few months for nothing because do not have an internet, the email also can't work, it was no any speed...After a few months we are cancel the service but they charge us over 3000$ and after the returning the stuff they also charge us over 300$, it's not a internet company. It's a scammers, stay away from them, it's a lot of stress.

We had to sign up for Viasat (via the phone) in our new rural area because we had no choice but them for hi speed internet. We did not get that service. Instead, we got constant buffering and slow internet, and extremely intermittent wifi calling. IN ADDITION, THEY TOLD US WE COULD CANCEL AT ANY TIME! NOT TRUE—they never told us when you sign up there is a 2-year contract. We didn’t find that out until 2.5 months later when we called to cancel! So they don’t cancel the day you call. They wait until the NEXT BILLING PERIOD, which is yet another month you have to pay over $200 / month for crappy service PLUS a $330 penalty fee. DISHONEST COMPANY, TERRIBLE INTERNET SERVICE. Don’t bother. Find Freedom Fiber in your area or another Fiber company in your area like we did: 100 TIMES BETTER!!!!

When we first signed up in 2018 it was okay. Each year the service is slower and the price higher. Now we're paying $170 a month for service that basically stops on the 15th because of data caps. Extremely high price for half a month's service is unacceptable. I'm counting the days until rural internet is rolled out at my address.

First of all, I was calling to get Starlink when I was convinced by the salesman named Alex that it would take 6 months to get starlink and that starlink's sister service ViaSat was a much better deal because it had no upfront costs and I qualified for a free installation. Sounds great except that when I said to Alex I'd had experience with internet services like them in the past I had discovered that the speeds were not adequate for my needs. Alex assured me that if I wasn't satisfied the installer would take it back immediately and cancel services. I shouldn't have listened to Alex at all because sounds like it was all just a scam to get me to take viasat versus purchasing star link which I can tell probably by now is going to be better no matter what.
Immediately upon installation, I ran a speed test and was not satisfied. Installer didn't care and said he had to have a contract for cancelation. I called and explained, and after many debates I was told I would have to pay a $300 cancelation fee less than 24 hours after installation. Alex never mentioned a fee to cancel. In fact he assured me customer satisfaction at no cost to me. Now, I have taken multiple sales calls trying to convince me that I am going to pay the cancelation fee just for trying their services. Never again. I should have known when my salesperson's English was barely understandable. I will never do future business with this company and since they are trying to say Alex told me I would pay a $300 cancelation fee. Apparently, I never heard that. Was it the language barrier when they're rattling off so quick you have no idea what they said. But when you specifically ask, they don't say that. Order #**

I am hoping this helps others. We had limited choices as we are in a rural area. We choose Viasat and had NOTHING but disappointment. Our hotspots work better. We ended up paying $460 to cancel! We ended up going to Starlink, the BEST internet service I have ever had... and I think I've had most of them: Dish, Comcast, Coastinet, Direct TV, Spectrum, Verizon, Frontier, and Viasat.
The technician that came out from Viasat was extremely helpful, unfortunately, he could not help us as their service is so bad. Although we had problems from the beginning, with documented calls to Viasat, they are still charging us over $460 to cancel and refuse to waive any fees! Please stay away! Use your hotspot or get Starlink!

Updated on 05/03/2023: Was charged for a Tria even though I had returned all equipment and had the delivery receipt showing all 10 lbs of equipment had indeed arrived at their end. The charge happened on 3/20/23, I spent 3 days trying to get this error charge resolved and a refund back. Viasat stated they issued a refund on 3/24/23. Well now it’s 5/2/23, my bank has not received a refund to date. Viasat replied to my Better Business Bureau complaint that they issued the refund 3/24/23 and if I disagree, to send them all my statements as proof.
My bank says that’s ridiculous because they immediate send me notice once a refund posts to my account and said Viasat should provide their electronic refund transaction confirmation to prove they indeed issued a refund to the bank. I don’t seem to be the only ex-customer with this problem and now I am considering small claims court to get my money back. I also wonder why there isn’t any bigger coverage about consumers' problems with Viasat, as it seems to be a massive problem.
Original Review: Returned equipment and got charged $157.07 for supposedly not sending back the TRIA, which is a downright lie. I looked at the docs I had and discovered the following: When you return the equipment you get a tracking number, so go online and print the details which include delivery date etc and most importantly the WEIGHT of the package. The weight including the TRIA which is heavy will be 10lbs. Let that sink in, how can one not have sent the TRIA equipment (which they are claiming in my case), if there is a track # and details with 10 lbs of weight?
Everyone who has problems with Viasat/Exede pls file an official complaint with the BBB. These fraudulent charges and/or attempts to fraudulently charge people is wrong and Viasat must be held accountable for their shady business practices to the authorities. It only takes a few minutes to report them. Even after the fact you and with your money gone long ago, you can still file and demand an explanation from this company through a BBB complaint process. I am keeping a lookout for a class action lawsuit, I hope there will be one against them someday soon.

I have called several times to disconnect this service and they refused to stop my service. They have on record that I called many times to stop service and they still have been billing me for the last ten months when I don't even live at the address anymore. And after calling again they still did not stop the service. Now I have to go to the bank and press fraud charges for the last ten months and get my money back.

I called to complain and cancel my services and they will not let me out of my contract without an $800 fee. I told them it doesn't even work and I shouldn't be charged for services I can't even use and was hung up on by the service rep manager.

Their modem capabilities does not match what they claim online. I had to cancel and returned their equipment. But now they are claiming I did not return the equipment and are trying to charge me. This was after several calls reminding me to return the equipment and me saying each time that I’ve already returned it through UPS with the box and UPS sticker they provided. They explained they will be able to track it themselves. I haven’t heard from them for about 3 months and all of a sudden get an email saying they will deduct a payment using my last payment method. When I contacted them they say I did not return the modem. The modem was returned in the box they provided along with the power cord and the receiver from the satellite as instructed.

UPDATED 2/22/2023: After four phone calls and being DENIED an address to return my equipment at my own expense because I haven't received their box with a preprinted label, I'm finding that they will charge your card on file for the failure to return the equipment. If you dispute the charge with your credit card company, they send it to a collection agency stating you failed to return the equipment. This is 100% fraud. They refuse to give you a shipping address, refuse to give a tracking number for the box they say they sent by UPS stating they don't have that information but yet, they know the box went out...? How is that possible? All UPS shipments have a tracking number. They tell you to keep calling back to check on the box if you don't get it.
Four phone calls and no box for two accounts I'm trying to close out. I've even read complaints that others have confirmation they sent the equipment back with a UPS tracking number and delivery confirmation, and they deny receiving it and charge their card. If the charge is disputed, they send it to a collection agency. This company should be shut down. I asked about paying the 95.00 for their person to come remove my equipment and was told they only takes the part off of the satellite. I still have to return modem and cables in the "box" that they are mailing to me.
So, there is literally no way out of this situation unless your credit is bad and you don't care about a collection mark on your credit. I have 40 minutes of conversation recorded where I was denied a shipping address by an employee and a supervisor. I was denied a tracking number for the box they say they sent out. I will follow up because I'm sure my credit card will be billed as others have for equipment not returned.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: I cancelled my service on 12/28/2022. I obtained a confirmation number and was told my service would terminate at the end of my billing cycle on 1/23/2023. I was told I'd receive a box with a pre printed shipping label to return my equipment within 7-14 days, and informed if I failed to return equipment within sixty days, I'd be charged for it. I was advised if I didn't receive the box to call back. This raised a red flag, so I asked for the shipping address offering to pay for shipping in case I didn't receive the box. I was told they could not give me an address and the equipment had to be returned in their box with the pre printed label. I was told it would be shipped by UPS and my address was confirmed.
On 1/24/2023, my credit card was billed for another month of service. It was not cancelled on 1/23/2023 as stated. I had not used the service and unplugged it at the time I requested cancellation on 12/28/2022. So, I called on 1/24/2023 and was told that the confirmation of cancellation was in the system, but the order did not get put through and that I would receive a refund on my credit card within 7-14 days. I asked again about the box for equipment return and was assured it would be sent.
As of today, 2/21/2023, I have not received a refund or the box for returning my equipment. I called today and spoke to an agent and finally a supervisor. I recorded the 40 minute conversation. I was denied a shipping address to return my equipment. I was told by the supervisor the box was sent out by UPS on 2/6/2023 after being told it hadn't by the agent, but they could not and absolutely refused to provide me a tracking number. I was told they don't have access to that information. After reading many complaints, I'm finding that the goal is to charge you for failing to return the equipment which consist of around 320.00. I've made a total of 4 phone calls regarding this matter.
My mother passed away on 1/16/2023 and I've also had the same issue trying to return her equipment. Two accounts, two cancellations, no box sent for either account and refusal to give a shipping address to return equipment. This company is absolutely a fraud. Their contract states you can't ship the equipment to any address listed on their website or contract. It MUST be returned in their box that they send to you with a preprinted label. Yet, I'm sure my credit card will be billed for failure to return equipment as others have been from reviews I'm reading. BEWARE of this company. In addition to the internet being slow and just overall horrible, the customer service is an absolute nightmare.

Since we live in a rural area we did not have many choices and had Viasat for four years. Customer service was horrible. When you did get a representative they usually read from a script and they would always try to upsell you in order to solve an issue. I got the best service they had but half the time I was stuck with constant buffering and outages. One time we were down for almost a week and we were never reimbursed. I was always rebooting the device. But the worst was when we finally were able to disconnect this horrible service. We always paid a month in advance.
Our invoice was 324.00. My expectation was they would pro rate the cost and return 26 days on the invoice that WE ALREADY PAID. This is what I get for paying my bill on time. I was told "we cannot do that and will terminate your service at your next invoice and send the boxes for you to return the equipment and if you don't return the equipment within 30 days you will be charged for it. I was a good customer. Always paid on time. I don't understand why they are still in business!! Bad service. Worse business practices. Total bait and switch.

THE WORSE INTERNET AND CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! I lowered my bill because I was paying a high amount for service for almost a year that sucks and did not hold up to their advertising, couldn’t work from home, kids couldn't load homework, and you can’t stream on it. I had the highest package offered knowing my family needed it, WASTE OF MONEY! I lowered the bill, got the same service. 2 months went by with the new payment and they decided to pull the previous amount out of my account, told me their system didn’t recognize the change but did confirm the agent changed my package to lower amount.
I asked for the difference to be refunded back to my account, and was told no! They blamed me and said because I didn’t call before they took I couldn't get the difference back! They did offer 40.00 of the over 100 dollar difference. I will be filing a complaint with the attorney general who handle consumer laws. RUN! You’re better off using your hotspot on your phone. I canceled my service!!!

Our first disappointment was that we could not use our land line with Viasat, as there is a one-half second delay, making conversations impossible. We had to go back to Centurylink, meaning another $50 a month due to Viasat's poor service. Then we found that our cell phone service was the same, a half-second delay, meaning that we we had to turn off wifi assist, using our weak T-Mobile signal for mobile service. Then we found that television service was weak at best, with the spiraling arrow in the middle of the screen that I suggested to them should be their company logo. We do not watch a lot of TV, only turning the set on late in the day and turning it off around 8PM, but still, we get the emails advising us that we have used up our service around the tenth of the month. I refuse to buy more, as it appears to me to be their business plan is to nickel and dime us for more service.
I am not a big NFL fan but was interested in the Bengals-Chiefs game, send so looked forward to watching it, but service was so intermittent that I turned it off and listened to the game on SXM who provides reliable service. I complained to the Better Business Bureau after that, as I suspected their signal was deliberately compromised that night to sell more "high speed" service, making a windfall. They of course, never responded to the complaint.
Some things they cannot control, like weather outages and the fact that geosynchronous satellites are 22,000 miles over the equator, creating a signal delay, meaning they cannot be used for phone service or gaming. Sale people do not tell you that, at least on phone service. But understand that if they can provide "high speed" service to all of us for ten days out of the month, they can provide it for the whole month and choose not to, just to create more revenue. I suspect their internal sales goal is to get $300-$500 out of each customer each month. Cannot wait for Starlink.

I am four months shy from canceling this awful internet service. It costs a fortune for buffering. It is dreadfully aggravating to be out of “high-speed internet” after a few days. It is a rip-off. You would be better off without internet services than throwing your money away on this crap. Viasat does not warrant one star.

After I called the main company, they told me that what the sales person told me was not true and that they couldn't honor the word of the Sales person. So basically I lost my money and they didn't want to cancel the contract. Very, Very Bad! I do not recommend them and you can't trust anything the sales reps tell you. I told them when I agreed to the 2 yrs my exact word were, "Yes as long as the quality of service was as stated" - it was not. This is the most horrible internet experience I have ever encountered and if I could give negative stars, I would. I signed up for service in June of 2022. The speed was slow and the latency was not working for my home office. I cancelled my service in October of 2022 once I discovered a mobile hotspot was 10x faster and was a much cheaper option. They provided a box for equipment return with an image instruction sheet showing what equipment was to be returned and how to pack it in the box. It could not have been easier to follow. All equipment was packed up and shipped. I paid my last invoice and everything was done.
Fast-forward to Monday, January 16th, 2023. I received a phone call from a debt collector saying I had an outstanding balance for non-returned equipment. I immediately disputed that claim and called Viasat to see why my account had been sent to collections in the first place. They informed me that the modem (last item packed at the top of the box, first item to be seen when box was opened) was not returned. I protested and the put my account in as an “ESCALATION” to figure out what happened and why that item did not get scanned back in.
On Thursday, January 19th, 2023, Viasat debited the balance out of my account anyway!!! No phone call, no prior authorization, no contact whatsoever. I called immediately. The customer service operator stated that, since it had already been sent through as a debit, it could not be recalled. My immediate question, why was my account debited BEFORE the outcome of the conclusion of the internal “ESCALATION”? She did not have an answer.
On Monday, January 23rd, 2023, I received yet ANOTHER phone call from a debt collector asking how I wished to take care of the outstanding balance toward this account. I am beyond angry at this point. Save yourself the trouble, get a cellular signal booster for your home and work with a hotspot. My apologies if you see this review on multiple platforms. I plan on posting to as many as I can find.

Then there is the customer service...very friendly people, but the service does not equal the veneer of courtesy. I have been using Viasat for over 2 years now (because it's either them or Hughesnet) and started having issues with connectivity so I called customer service and the First Lady I spoke to was great. Tried to help me as much as she could then I spoke with the supervisor on duty and at that point was told flat out to stop using my gaming systems and was also told that the only type of special offers was for new customers only to upgrade so therefore was basically told they don’t care how long I’ve been with the company. If I wanted higher gb then I’d have to pay almost double what I pay now which it would go from 179 to almost 400 a month and even then using my game systems I’d be out of data within a week of my plan refreshing and they no longer have “so called” unlimited plans which were never unlimited to begin with….
When I first got the internet the guy told me that it would work with most games just not games that needed higher speeds like call of duty and games that are full on pvp online games And then tonight 1/1/23 was told by a supervisor to stop using my new ps5 system period 'cause it won’t work with their internet except maybe a week or 2 each month. Absolutely do not use Viasat if you don’t have to…. Still do not understand how this company is associated with the space program but yet can’t do better with internet services for its customers.

We were immediately charged for a full month. $266 which is absurd because we had to use our hot spots if we even wanted to watch a movie. I called to cancel and was explaining my issue. The supervisor literally hung up on me and noted that I was rude. Are you kidding me? He would not let me speak. He talked over me and would not hear a word I was saying!

I have been a Viasat customer for about 5 years. I live in rural NC and we have no wired internet or even cell service where we live. For many years I had Hughes Net and then I changed to Viasat. The service from Viasat was about as good as could be expected for standard satellite internet but a couple of months ago, I changed to Starlink and that is where my issues with Viasat arose.
When I left Hughes net, they asked for their router back and I expected that from Viasat. But it turns out that Viasat also wants part of the satellite dish back as well. However the dish was installed where I cannot reach it. And I am disabled and am not able to climb a ladder to get to the part that they want. So I spoke to them and they said that if I did not send that back, I would be billed. Or they could send a technician out to take the part if I paid a fee of $95. My years of faithfully paying the $180 a month fee and the fact that I am disabled did not change any of that. I STRONGLY suggest that anyone considering Viasat think twice. Hughes net has similar service and is easier to work with and more considerate of their customers. Or Starlink may be a good option too. But I would sure avoid Viasat.

What a total waste of money. You pay for a plan and when that runs out no more tv for you. What is the point of paying for internet if you can't stream your TV? When I spoke to a rep at Hulu she said the latency number has to be under 50 to stream and that the internet provider could lower that number. Well of course this crappy company is about money not service. My service lasts about a week before it does nothing but buffers. You pay a monthly charge for 1 week of service. Rip off. I cancelled this service when they didn't want to help with the latency issue. Held hostage by ** internet. Bbb should look into their business.

Long story short as I’m getting tired of typing all this over and over again, I was told by 2 different people on a recorded call that I could use my own modem so I didn’t have to rent theirs every month. After the absolutely terrible and lazy install, I went and picked up my own modem. I hooked it up and it didn’t work. I called them and was then told I couldn’t use my own modem. So already that’s straight-up fraud times two on their part. I called them to come have the dish moved as it was out in the front of my house above my garage, practically in my rain gutter. They gave me a 3-hour window for a couple days later. The person called me with 10 minutes left and said he wasn’t paid so he’s not coming.
After that and many calls back and forth I decided to cancel their services. I was then informed I would have to pay $360 to do so and climb onto my roof to take down their equipment and send it back (liability issue for sending an untrained person onto the roof to dismantle their equipment?) or pay another $95 for them to come get it. I informed them I never was told about that cancellation fee and contract and I never signed anything. I’ve escalated the issue up as far as I could without getting the BBB and a lawyer involved but that is where it’s at now. I absolutely do not recommend this company for any service and they honestly deserve to be shut down after this experience and reading thousands of others similar to mine. Do not use them!

We transferred our internet service to Viasat a few years ago, because they claimed to provide better and faster service than our current provider. We found out quickly that this wasn’t the case. The service wasn’t faster. In fact, at times it was slower connection speeds and we had numerous instances of no service at all. When we tried to cancel due to this, they said we would be charged a termination fee, so we stayed with them until moving out of the area at the end of July, 2022 - at which time we called to terminate our service and paid the termination fee. They mailed us a box to return our equipment. The box we received did not have a return label on it. We’ve reached out to Viasat numerous times over the past few months, in an effort to get the equipment returned.
We were told several times that they were going to mail a new box, which we never received. We also told Viasat representatives several times that we were concerned that they were going to charge us for equipment that we'd been desperately trying to return. On October 28, 2022, they attempted to withdraw $315.39 from our account for the equipment. We sent an email the same day, again requesting that they resolve the situation. We received confirmation that they had received the email and would respond within 48 hours. To date, we’ve gotten no response to the email requesting resolution. We also wrote a review on their Facebook page hoping this would elicit a response. They deleted the comment and blocked us from further comments on the page.
We noticed that there were many comments almost identical to ours. Most of those were deleted as well. We did have the opportunity to screenshot multiple other comments from customers that have had the same experiences as us. Some returned equipment and were still charged. Many complaining of no response from Customer Service. A couple of days ago we received a letter from a collection agency demanding payment. We’ve done everything we could to return their equipment and feel their business practices are fraudulent and predatory, preying on people that they feel can do nothing to stop them.

I signed up and have been unable to stream adequately before and after they throttle me each month. Ran a speed check and it's okay, but the latency is ridiculously high, no wonder I can't stream. I canceled service with them due to a separation from my husband and they charged me an early disconnection fee that I paid. Then they told me I would receive an equipment box to send back the equipment, but I was told that the piece on the actual satellite dish that they install would be retrieved by one of their technicians in the area, no problem.
I moved away and sent back the equipment with the box they gave me and now months later they charged my account stating I never returned the equipment and that their notes on the account say I told them I'm not responsible for the equipment and don't have to return it, which is an outright lie! I returned what they told me to return and now they are changing their words, saying I had to remove the piece of their satellite dish and send back as well. I can't reach the satellite and I don't know how to remove anything from it. I told them that's not my job and they said they would send someone out to remove it.
They have the worst customer service I've ever had to deal with and do not care about their customers. The supervisor I spoke with this morning by the name of Alain and wouldn't give me his last name or his boss's name until he finally told me. He was very dismissive of me. I paid them a lot of money when I had service with them and their service was horrible! I paid for the highest tier in order to work from home and I had to end up driving back into the office over an hour away during the pandemic.
This company has caused me so much stress and it's been several months since they last threatened to charge me for the equipment that I already returned! I have already put a complaint in with the BBB and of course Viasat told them I was rightfully being charged back then too, but they never charged me. Months later I wake up today to a $267 from them. How dare they do this to me when I did what they told me to do and returned the equipment in the box provided.

My ViaSat modem died so I call for a service appointment; this is after I spent an hour talking to technical support who finally agreed the modem stopped working. The service call was scheduled for within five days. On the fifth day, their field technical sent me a text stating that he doesn't have any equipment and would have to reschedule for another 5-day wait; silly of me to think a satellite internet company would have a spare modem around somewhere. I called Viasat to confirm this and said that I have no scheduled date for a service call. At this point, I am trying to restrain myself from pulling out the remaining few hairs on my head.
As it stands now, they have no equipment available and it's undermined when they will have the equipment and subsequently provide me with a service call. Fortunately, I recently received my Starlink package which works wonderfully, not even a hiccup setting it up. So whenever ViaSat has availability to service my location, I will use them as a backup ISP. But if you are searching for a new ISP provider, STAY AWAY FROM VIASAT!

I would give 0 stars for this review but the system will not take it. So they automatically get 1 star. Let me explain how these crooks do business. First, I've been a customer of Viasat for over 6 years. I've been on auto pay since the beginning so I've never had a past due bill. Beware, should you ever need to cancel their service, you must do it prior to your billing date. They will not disconnect your service in the middle of the month, unless you are past due. I called to cancel service because I have no use for it anymore now that my employer will no longer let me work from home.
I attempted to cancel in the middle of my billing cycle, and they refuse to disconnect and prorate the "pre-paid" month. They said it's in the fine print of the disconnection disclosure. I asked why they did not disclose this when I agreed to my contract and again said, because it's part of the disconnection disclosure. I asked for persons in higher positions that could make that decision, and wasn't able to get above manager level. I find this business practice extremely poor, unclear, and dishonest. I pray this eventually lands in court with a class action law firm. I would love to be part of that.
Without hesitation, I would recommend never placing your account on auto pay. The service is ok when comparing satellite internet service. It's slow - like all of them. The only one that's much faster and has no data caps is Starlink by SpaceX. Oh and Starlink only charges you for what you order. Disconnect whenever you want. Furthermore. I've been on a Viasat plan for years now that they no longer offer. It was to be a locked in price. Although they did honor that, my speeds dropped in the last two years. After several calls to Viasat about the lower speeds, I was told that my speeds are being throttled back because they want me to go on a new plan ($80.00 more a month to get the same speed and data I'm currently locked in to receive). Again - not very honest.
In conclusion, if you can't get any other internet, I guess this company will do in a pinch - but you better be careful cause this company has very slippery hands and will put it to you the first chance they get. If you're looking for fair internet service with a high price and shady customer service - this company is for you. If you're looking for exceptional satellite speeds at a reasonable price with excellent customer service, you should reach out and check Starlink. Even their RV service is faster and currently available without a wait, not to mention for just $10/month you can take the service with you wherever you go.

Then they charged me for Phone service and easy care plan that I had not asked for or been made aware of which added another $30 to the monthly bill. For a spotty service that caps you at 60GB and gives you lower speed after, it's horrible and the only thing keeping me is the 2 year contract cancelation penalty!

In three days 60 gig was used and we never was able to get a usable connection. My son had to get a hotel room in order to work because you wasn't able to get a continuous connection to work from our house while visiting. Customer service is a the worst. They cannot deliver what they promise.
Don't waste your money or time on their internet services because it does not work as promised. They lock you out of your payment method so you cannot change it so they can charge your card for the first month's bill (117.21) and then another 323.18 with no bill or explanation. I called billing and asked for a copy of the bill and was told after 45 minutes on the phone that management approved my request for a copy of the bill but it would still take 7 to 14 days to email a copy of that 323.18 bill. Speeds are amazingly slow at all times, anytime of the month. Most of the time we can barely stream, lots of loading. That is on a good day. We've used this service both for business (I'm an engineer) and streaming. Decided to switch to a cellular-based hotspot. The difference is incredible and it costs roughly 1/3 the price as Viasat. Here is why they are only getting 1 star: When I cancelled, they want me to return all the equipment I supposedly "purchased" or pay $300 which was how much I purchased everything for!!!! What??? And, $60 cancellation fee... What? I don't even have a contract because I paid for my service.
Clincher is they offered $50 off for 12 months when I tried to cancel... I refused. Then, they asked if I wanted to "hibernate" my account for $10/month. What?!?! Absolute ripoff in my opinion. I should have gone with HughesNet or any other service. Big NOTE: My Verizon hotspot will work pretty much anywhere there is some type of cell signal. Even 1 bar works. I called to ask why they say I used up all my 60gb of data in the first 10 days. The answer I got was that 80% of the high speed data was used on streaming. I think this data extender is untrue and **. They are taking advantage of the customers so they can sell more data. In my opinion, that is cheating the customer. Someone needs to hold this LYING THIVING Company accountable. We have Viasat Internet where we live (rural area). We do not have many things that are allowed to be on the ViaSat Wi-Fi. Everything (basically two TVs and a phone), the TVs are through Roku only which has data saver on running at 480 and 720 and are not ever running at the same time (we unplug them from the power cord); the phone has no apps but YouTube which is at the lowest quality with no updating or background allowed. These devices are never really ran because we work quite a few hours a day and when ran we do not watch anything that would have to be watched in high quality like 4k; all are completely disconnected from the Wi-Fi (to which the ViaSat App says nothing is on Wi-Fi); yet it still continues to somehow drain 10gb of data as we are not home.
Every time they up their Plans they up the amount of data they say we use per day without just cause. I truly think they price gouge for rural areas and that they lie to the regards of how much data is actually being used per day to their customers. Something needs to be done about this. I have called multiple times without any resolution. It is always a repeat of the same answers. They say devices that are fully disconnected from the power source and tv drained the data.

From day 1 though the internet just never worked for us. It was extremely slow and was disconnected often. I couldn't work from home like I was promised and ended up just using my mobile Hotspot to get anything done.
I thought maybe this was due to cloudy/rainy weather so I gave it time but even on the clearest days, it didn't work. About 10 days into our service I called them and was told we already used our data for the month. I was blown away. $150 monthly and we went through our data in the first week. The standard data was not capable of quality streaming on two devices so it became useless to me after less than a week.
Every time a storm passed I would lose internet service and it was very unreliable. The actual speed that I was getting was 50mbps which is much less than the 100mbps speed advertised. They do not offer trial period cancellation to try the service. If you cancel the next day because it’s not working properly, they will charge you the full $360 cancellation fee to the payment on file. My 5-or-so-year experience with Viasat/Excede tracks identically with other reviewers here:
1. Dreamy promises, seldom if ever delivered;
2. Positively abysmal--repeat: ABYSMAL--customer service via "offshore" call centers staffed by marginally English-speaking folks only capable of reciting scripts provided by the corporate wizards;
3. When the all-too-frequent outages occur, the Viasat customer is obligated to first navigate the Viasat customer service maze (see 2., above) to receive a "work order number," and then must then present that work order number to the customer service department of their "local retailer", itself of course saddled with its own issues and deficiencies. Though I live in Hawaii, the "local" retailer that Viasat assigned to me is in Alaska;
4. When the customer realizes the error of his or her ways and decides to cancel service, he or she is informed that they must climb up on their roof to dismantle the dish hardware--which Viasat installed--for return to Viasat.
Viasat's modus operandi seems emblematic of our brave new world's preference for appearance and profit over content and honesty. I would urge anyone considering Viasat as an internet provider to look elsewhere.

Noticed that things would slow if we "ran out of data." Another standard answer was "it's the weather." Note: it states that weather does not affect service on their website. I had a couple service calls over a few years. The technician would never show up in slotted time or even day. What I figured out in end is they do not have their own service people. They contract and don't even ask me how this works as they have a choice to choose your time slot if you call in. They tell you someone will be there at certain time and you are waiting.
1st couple times there was a decent contractor who tried to work with us and arrived in evening since they didn't make time scheduled by remote customer service person. Whenever I called, people were extremely nice...only reason I'm giving a 3 stars..but not 5 because I believe they are all in on the scam. Giving Speed 3 stars because when they didn't screw with cutting it off, it was fairly good. Last straw...mid to late January 2022. I am working from home and kid going to school because of a positive Covid test. Speeds tank and prevent me from attending a meeting remotely. Checked the app and it looks like we're out of data. Soooo...paid the astronomical rate for more...twice. Didn't help.
Was sucked up twice in a hurry, so I called tech support. They said weather. Weather cleared, problem did not (by the way they say weather does not affect service on their website right?). Called again. Tech scanned and found some problem with piece on satellite to be defective. Sending a service tech...tomorrow. I was home that day still, so...great. No show. Called 3 times that day and got runaround that they were having contractor call me. Then...the next day. Finally they say, "We don't have a contractor in your area." They need a couple days to sign contract with one. I called and got this same story 2 more times. Finally said...."You have your 72 hours and then I'm looking for other service." I actually gave them 48 more hours than that.
After that 120 hours, I did find another local carrier and set up appointment. Later that same day....a contractor calls coming from another state. I state no I do not need service. I call Viacrap to cancel and the person I talked to, Veronica, understood the situation. I said I want a refund because I am not getting good service because of the defective part and the length of time we couldn't get anyone here. I had service with them for 6 years. 200 bucks a month as I work from home. 14,000 USD. I paid this company 14,000 dollars for service that only worked for me because I work from 4 a.m. to noon when their speeds are reasonable. Afternoons and evenings this service slowed down so far that you could not do anything more than light browsing - even with the biggest package that they offered. Then I moved... I called to plan service disconnect as soon as I had a contract on my house. They informed me that I would have to CLIMB A 2 STORY HOUSE to retrieve something on the dish. Yep. I declined and said, "You can charge me for that part." I have all of the internal equipment boxed up and ready to send to you. Where do I send it? Their response "We will send you a box". No box arrived. I moved. I spoke with them to say "No box - please give me an address to return." "Sorry; we can't but give us a new address, we will ship a box."
I explain that I STILL HAVE THE ORIGINAL BOX. Their equipment is safe. No box arrives. I call. They say give it a few days. No box. They charge my credit card (understandably since by now it has been 2 months since I cancelled service). Today - 3.5 months after I disconnected service, I receive another call. Now, they have already charged me for the equipment and they have NEVER sent a box. They want their equipment. I tossed their equipment 2 weeks ago when I was cleaning because seriously???? Who keeps old, detached satellite equipment for over 3 months? HORRIBLE cancellation process.

Be careful when you do decide to cancel your service. Don't be talked into going into a hibernation plan because you may want to sign up again. The sales pitch is that it doesn't cost anything. The problem is you must remember to cancel before the hibernation period is over (six months later). They will send you a notice the day they bill your account. But even if you call in that day they tell you there is no way to get a refund for that month. They will cancel you starting next month. For me that is $186.00 for nothing. So Beware!!

When they give you 'free time' 3 am - 6am they all of a sudden have network issues. It feels like they disconnect the DNS server. Don't fall for the line they are putting up a new satellite up and speeds will be quicker. It is just to get you into a higher plan, and you cannot get back to your cheaper plan. This company in my experience is a rip off and dishonest. On December 8th I called Viasat to ask why I was being charge more money. A lady informed me that it was for cancellation. I set up the Viasat internet back in December 2020 & did a lot of research on the "best" satellite providers before purchasing the home. Being that I am self employed & work from home I needed to have good internet. Feeling confident about the service they were advertising I called & talked to an agent & was told to get unlimited for what I needed to do. I was never told what speeds were available in my area prior to enlisting their services & signing up for this plan. Almost 11 months later & over $2400 paid to viasat we made the decision to sell and move as I could no longer operate my business from home based on the very poor internet we were getting.
We were unable to stream shows, not have more than two devices online at a time, and surely had a hard time with my photography business in getting emails sent and images uploaded to client galleries. We sold the home & cancelled our service. My husband called to cancel. We get billed on the 8th & we cancelled on the 15th of November. We were billed for almost 30 days of not living there, up to the next billing cycle on the 8th of December. I called to ask why we're not given a proration & I was simply told it's not in the software that they are capable of prorating the bill. Then I got another bill which was a cancellation fee. I called to dispute it as we had already given them & extreme amount of money for a plan that we were not provided.
I disputed with "angel supervisor". I explained to angel that it is fraud to knowingly enter a client into a contract for something they can't provided. Yet the company still advised the "best" contract for me without telling me speed rates in my area & while still exclaiming that we would be able to stream and do all the work I needed. That was also not true & misleading me the consumer. They argued that because speeds are not guaranteed they owe me nothing. If that is the case, how can they even legally advertise speeds of up to 100 and sell consumers on that, nothing is guaranteed according to them.

Viasat is the true better-than-nothing option for rural users. Beyond that, expect only basic performance with near-useless bandwidth on the upstream side. My home security cameras were barely viewable, with near slide-show or total freeze frame rates. Also, Viasat is predatory in their contract practices. To "try" their service you have to buy into a 2-year contract. Also, they only accept auto-pay account arrangements. In my case, I terminated my service when finally getting Comcast to my home. Viasat took almost 2 months to send me a "return equipment" box and included the requirement that I go up on the roof and retrieve their microwave scoop off the dish!! Despite my same-day return (once I got my box) they charged me more money without explanation or permission a few days later. When the card was declined (I blocked it after closing the service) they immediately put me in collections!
Pros:
Better the Hughesnet satellite.
Good basic internet for web browsing and E-mail.
Passable downstream video streaming with occasional buffering on 720p or better, even on their "best" plan.
Cons:Useless upload bandwidth video for security cameras, Skype, Zoom, VOIP, or any 2-way real-time streaming.
Outages a couple times a year when they reset their Satellite "cells" to sync with your dish location.
Gaming? Forget it. Ping averages 690ms... You're dead before you even see the monster come into the room!
Predatory billing practices. Even if you pay in full upon termination, they can bill you again for any reason.

If it continues to be slow, they will send out another technician. If that fails to increase the speed, they will send out another technician. In other words, 4) There is nothing we can do to get out of our contract without paying the $180 early termination fee. Beware Viasat internet service, especially if you live remote in the country. Fine and dandy and eager with service to get you in to service--watch out trying to get OUT. First, due to remoteness in the Mendocino County, California area, few techies want to go at the meager pay they get to remove your satellite equipment, the receiver, the modem, the power cable. In my experience NONE wanted to deal with it.
I spent three days trying to get Viasat to respond to my end of service and removal of equipment. I was continually run around, not just by the robot answering system. There was no continuity on the problem. Yes, they'd get someone there, they said. "What if you don't," I asked. "We will," they said. "We'll call you tomorrow the details." Tomorrow came more than once with NO call whatever. Meanwhile, my timeline to getting out was shortening. Further, somehow thru the process I was told that if I did not return their equipment I'd be up for 300 bucks in extra charges. BUT they could not supply a techie to do the job--why? Because I was remote and no techie was getting enough out of viasat to do the job. What did viasat do? Delayed and obfuscated.
Next, I took matters into my own hands. "I would remove the equipment myself,' I said, and was then told, "Okay, we'll send you a recovery box, so take that stuff with you and then return it when you get there." I did this. Have had it lugged along and waiting for the recovery box. But ... no recovery box. So now, why folks? What's going on. "Oh, your equipment was so old you can throw it in the trash" is the answer. Meanwhile I paid out a guy 200 bucks to get the stuff down for me so I could send it. I'm out the bucks plus the day after day hassle. So I say if you're out there in the outback somewhere, as I was, eighteen miles from civilization, beware these people long on getting you in and very short on getting you out. Plus frankly, I paid way too much for way too little GB monthly. Go back to Viasat? No way.

Viasat is SCAMMING you! Like other reviewers I have found Viasat to be extremely lacking in service with many of the same complaints and disfunction. Unfortunately, like others, my choices were limited to non-existent. My internet needs are fairly low so without other options I gave it a try. I went with the “Silver” plan with a 60 Gig allotment. The main use for me was to stream music, retrieve email, listen to Podcasts, do a little surfing and shopping on Amazon (all low bandwidth functions). I don’t stream movies or download anything significant so 60 Gigs was more than enough (or so I thought). I was hoping the service would be good enough to allow for wi-fi calling with my iPhone, but alas the high latency made it unusable for that. It was able to send and receive my text messaging just fine so that along with email became my main way to communicate with the rest of the world.
I’ve been on the service for a year now. At first I never even bothered to check the online usage meter as it shouldn’t have even been a concern for my intended usage given 60 Gigs. Based on data I’ve used with other providers such as Comcast and other local ISPs 10 Gigs would be more than enough for me. Wow was I wrong! Not that I used more data than that, but that the plan would be sufficient. I quickly found their so called “meter” was for me off by at least a factor of 10. If I used 400 megabytes they would register 4 gigs. It was ridiculous. They showed me blowing through my 60 gigs in usually a couple of weeks even though I knew for a fact I hadn’t used anything close to that. So it would go into slow-mode after a couple of weeks. I basically just put up with it as even at their super-slow mode I could listen to a podcast. So I just put up with it. Once you go into their slow-down mode it is as bad or worse than dial-up. Next to useless.
They have a complete scam going on with their data plans. It is my opinion they have way oversold what they can provide in terms of bandwidth and so to compensate they “fix” the meter and actually provide half or less of what they promise. This isn’t just supposition. As far as the data usage it is actually fairly easy to monitor. My mesh network router system has very nice usage software for the router. It lists every single device (I have about a dozen) and what it is using, speed, performance etc. along with totals and sub-totals for any given period of time. It logs all the details. It reports back to me just about what I thought and expected. It won’t allow anything to join the network without my approval, so there aren’t any devices that I am not aware of gobbling up data as Viasat would like to have me believe. However, because the usage amounts were so egregiously different than what Viasat said I was using I wanted to confirm.
I installed another software package (PeakHour 4, for Mac) to monitor everything on my network. Then I set up a baseline and manually downloaded specific files that are known. It gave me real-life speeds, times, amounts, usages, quality etc of these downloads. Next I calculated stream rates and speeds for my music streaming service (Apple Music Service) I confirmed streaming usage from the Music service. Apple streams at 256 kbps consistently which is 115.2 megabytes per hour or 1 gig in 8.7 hours of constant streaming. Both my usage meters returned the same results as did my manual calculations. I am 100% completely confident in my usage.
My results. I won’t bore you with all the details but through the first 7 days of my usage period I have used an actual amount of of 2.1 gigs as reported by all my software logs and manual calculations. They all agree within a meg. I will add that I turned off or disconnected all devices other than my phone and laptop to ensure consistency and any unknowns that might sneak in. Viasat reported in the same period that I have used 34.6 gigs. (off and over-reported by a factor of 16). What a joke. I can stream a couple of hours of music and they will report back 5 gigs. As “Andrew of Holt” writes in his remarks “I consider Viasat's billing practices to be sneaky, underhanded deceptive and bordering on criminal.”
What are you going to do? Viasat makes all kinds of promises but doesn’t deliver. They actually knowingly cheat their customers with their usage reporting. I don’t mean this as a passing comment, they actually are committing fraud on a wholesale basis. I’m guessing they couldn’t stay in business otherwise and obviously in time services such as Starlink will come along and put them out of business. Not soon enough. I’ve considered starting up a class action lawsuit but that takes a lot of time and money and they know it. They know there isn’t much that will happen to them with these practices so they continue with them. Buyer beware.

Several complaints and one decent one.... The bill has constantly gone up since we signed a 2 year contract in March from 120 to 170 with no good explanation really.... We specifically requested NO landline but we were issued a phone number and paid for it for a couple of months before we noticed we had one and had to call 4 times to request to have the landline removed from our account, each time telling us they had removed it and we're gonna issue a refund... Which of course they did not.... And we still have the landline on our account, it's just the most miserable experience dealing with their customer service....
Finally enough was enough and we paid the early termination fee to get out of our contract.... The lone decent thing I will say is from about midnight to 5 a.m the speeds are fairly fast.... During the day it's insanely slow.... All in all I'm sure not everyone will have the negative experience we did but I would definitely tell someone to make absolute sure they are paying for what they signed up for if they go with Viasat.... We didn't and it cost us 50 dollars more per month and the price of early termination.

I live in a small town rural area. I used to have Dish as my internet provider but they only offered 2 mbps as the highest plan. I wanted more speed, so I searched online and found Viasat. I got their highest plan Unlimited Platinum 100. I paid $214 monthly for a service that was always having outages and super slow. But I tried to give it a chance so I waited a few months. Still annoyed with how many outages and slowness, I decided to downgrade my plan to their lowest plan. When I changed it, it went to never having internet even when I only have one device “connected”.
After waiting another month with the lowest plan, I had enough. I decided to cancel my service because I was literally just spending $214 for nothing. They didn’t even offer to waive the early termination fee even after I told them how the service never worked. I had to pay an ETA of $270, but I already had $148 in my account because remember I was paying $214 monthly. So my total for the ETA is $121. Lol Cheaper to cancel this plan than how much I was originally paying. What a joke. They tried to offer a discount for only 6 months LOL. Don’t get this service if you live in Mammoth, AZ. You’re better off flushing down your money down the toilet because that’s essentially what I did with Viasat. I lasted 6 months, the agent that disconnected my account started to talk super fast after I agreed to pay the ETA, ignoring what I was saying and hung up lol. I am disgusted with myself for wasting that much money on this service.

I purchased Viasat's internet product because the wife and kids need to do school while I work over the feeble CenturyLink DSL connection at 8mbs. While the speed of their highest rated plan with 100GB of data is more than acceptable we find ourselves still running out of data at the end of the month - even with all streaming running over the DSL connection. My kids know that after school gaming also runs better over the CenturyLink DSL connection.
To their credit their service has never been unavailable - yet. What concerns me most though is that the price of the plan has skyrocketed from the original $120 to $178 for the current billing month. Either United Fiber or Starlink will make it to my door soon and when one does I know that I will pay through the nose to cancel Viasat but then I'll never look back. I consider Viasat's billing practices to be sneaky, underhanded deceptive and bordering on criminal.

If you have any possible option avoid this company. Installation was a joke, they no showed/no called two separate times, when the first tech was there he barely looked around and said it wouldn't work (that was a week before I was moving in and working from home... on the Viasat internet we had had scheduled for a month or so when they ghosted us twice), when I started asking more questions about why he 'double checked' and realized that we could, in fact, install the internet, but that it would need to be a post in the front yard instead of the roof (so he wouldn't have the mats and I would have to reschedule installation). Unsightly and kind of a pain, but acceptable if it got us internet.
The second installer arrived a week or two later and had no problem putting it on the roof, sounds like the first guy just didn't want to waste his time. Internet was pretty poor, ANY sort of cloud cover or weather basically cut it off completely. Then there is the price. They absolutely gouged people throughout the pandemic because they knew people were often having to work from home and had to shell out. We paid $180 a month (we had the second tier), they jumped our price up 20% the second month of our service. I called when we moved to see about moving our service (we were moving to another place in the country) and she said they would end our contract and re-start it.
It is a two year contract, and you pay $15 per month for each month unused when you break the contract. She also said they couldn't guarantee pricing, she would have to check for my area. I asked her to check (the new place is like two miles from the place I was using Viasat), she checked and said the top tier was $150 a month. So. They were overcharging me $30+ a month for a smaller data cap. After that I checked every possible option to drop this godawful company, we eventually added a hotspot through AT&T and it is a quarter the price. We canceled our service, we have 30 days to return things to the company, but evidently their material and instructions take 2 weeks to arrive. 100% would suggest avoiding Viasat.

Satellite internet does not provide what they “market”. I’ve had Hughes Net before Viasat and it was beyond bad. There has to be something that can be done to provide reliable, affordable internet service to rural areas. If you live rural you are being discriminated against. We actually have high speed internet 5 miles up the road, but no one wants to service a rural area. They truly only look for the most customers in an area. If a company would provide fast, reliable service I guarantee the rural customers would pay it. Especially the business (farms) and families with school age children. With COVID here and not going away, reliable and affordable internet should be available to all. Satellite internet needs improving or done away with as it’s truly a racket.

I scheduled a new install with them for another home of mine, an hour after the technician is suppose to be here, I get a call, they can't do it today, maybe tomorrow.
If you're overbooked or short on staff, could have called me last night and rescheduled, not after I already took off work to be here and you're supposed to be here. Now I got to take off another day and hope they don't cancel again. This company sucks, if you have other options for different company use it. Wish I had other options. And I agree with other people's reviews. I have been a ViaSat customer since Dec. 2018 and only because it is one of the few rural internet providers available that offer the speeds I need to work from home, processing large files. Since 2018, I have had their contracted "tech" agents on site more times than I can recall, not counting the install which, by the way, on one such visit, I was told the dish was installed incorrectly. Two years after being installed. So they reinstalled the dish, left the original mounting equipment and never made good on ANY of their promises to have the roof damage repaired. So now the bracket just sits on my roof. Doing nothing.
Slow internet speeds aren't even the tip of this iceberg. My plan renews on the 24th of each month. I have the "Unlimited" Gold 50 Plan (the fastest plan available where I live in western Texas) and by the second week of my billing cycle, my speed is ALWAYS throttled. There are two adults in this home. We stream lightly, because we try to be mindful of the data we use so that we can both do our jobs. Neither of our phones are connected to the internet, neither of our tablets. Just two PCs (that are disconnected from the internet at the end of every work day) and an AppleTV that stays unplugged... LITERALLY unplugged from the wall... until we are ready to use it. Stone Age internet at its finest. I hate it.
Additionally, their call center is outsourced. I understand that businesses have to make money. But when I'm spending $170 +/- on an internet service that only works half of the time, my question is this: Where is ViaSat spending all the money they're supposedly saving by outsourcing their call center and their on-site tech agents (yeah... they contract with people who have base knowledge of this technology to install, repair, and maintain their contracts)? It CERTAINLY doesn't appear to be being spent on upgrading their technology to provide better, more reliable service. This leads me to believe that, like most businesses today, this organization has zero concern for their consumer, only their bottom line. I am sorry if this is your only avenue to internet access. I truly am. However, if it isn't, and you have options, I HIGHLY suggest you go with LITERALLY anyone else than ViaSat.

On line customer service has no knowledge and hangs up after long holds. I have been hung up on 8 times. Read this before joining VIASAT!!! -FOREWARNED is FAIR-WARNED- Imagine waking up on a Saturday morning and having $300 taken out of your bank account. That happened to me today, all because VIASAT has record that I've not returned my business account equipment. That is correct. I still have my equipment sitting in my kitchen waiting on a box to send it to them. We had a residential account and business account. VIASAT sent a box for us to return our residential equipment to our correct NC address right away but THEN they SENT a box in June to our northern Virginia address to send our business account equipment to, even though we no longer lived there.
After 3 more phone calls and nearly 3 hours of wasted time speaking with VIASAT customer service representatives VIASAT sent another box for us to send out our business equipment. THIS time they AGAIN sent it to our northern Virginia address, even though my wife had multiple lengthy conversations concerning which address the box should be sent to. After NOT receiving the box AGAIN for another 2 weeks my wife calls AGAIN to VIASAT to confirm we never received a box and VIASAT AGAIN said, "WE'RE SORRY for OUR MISTAKE, we will send you another box out;" which WE HAVE NEVER RECEIVED.
During the time from June to August each week we received harassing phone calls from VIASAT to question us and accuse us of keeping their equipment and informing we would be charged if it wasn't returned. Each time my wife had to explain the issue OVER AGAIN and readdress VIASAT's INCOMPETENCE and waste her personal time trying to fix an issue that VIASAT was causing. Finally after NEVER receiving a box from VIASAT on August 28th we wake up to $300 missing from our bank account, all because VIASAT employees CANNOT execute a simple request to send a box to the correct address.
Early today on a beautiful Saturday morning instead of enjoying time with my family I had to call VIASAT AGAIN to address their INCOMPETENCE and hope I received prompt customer service concerning my $300 being taken form me even though none of it was my fault. After waiting on hold I speak with a customer service representative who said we would NEVER have been charged if we had called and spoke with them. WHAT? After hearing that and knowing how many times my wife had called and spoken with them, it makes me think that the VIASAT customer service team has non-existent communication between their team members. To say I was upset is an understatement.
Then, when I asked about my refund of my money I was told, "We will send you another box and once we receive it we will then we will return your money." At this point in the conversation I realize I'm not going to receive the appropriate response I should have received concerning my money they took from me due to circumstances that VIASAT created. On top of that, I'm supposed to trust that the box will even arrive. IF this strategy is used as a way to make a solid increase on their bottom line and not a one off mistake then it is INGENIOUS. They send your box to an incorrect address, then have terrible communication between their customer service team to the point that it is frustrating to speak to them and then finally charge you missing equipment fee, INGENIOUS. Imagine how many people get frustrated to the point that they just let them have the money. WOW that is an INCREDIBLE bottom line BOOSTING scheme!
At my annoyance I asked to speak to a supervisor which I was then told they had no supervisors on duty but they would send my email to a corporate escalation email box. That is what I love the MOST about today's CORPORATE business world, there is never anyone ever available to speak with who has an IQ above 7 unless you can luck up and find a corporate executive's phone number. To say VIASAT has TERRIBLE customer service is stating it kindly. Someone in their training department needs to RETRAIN every phone representative in their organization. Their communication system needs a complete overhaul since no conversations are notated when you call concerning your account.
If you are looking for a corporate conglomerate that cares nothing about you as a customer and puts systems in place that allow them to STEAL from you even though you've done everything you can to ensure you are following their procedures other than doing their jobs for them then THIS is the company for you! To say I am completely disappointed in VIASAT's customer service doesn't begin to explain how I feel. If you want the same level of disappointment and don't mind having your money STOLEN then SIGN up with VIASAT...

I got Viasat because of the "high speed" promise that they had online. When it worked it was pretty fast but it didn't work most of the time. I have a business account so it is labeled as "unlimited" internet. WRONG!! It has very SLOW latency and causes multiple problems when video conferencing or trying to communicate with a server that is off site. The "allotment" of internet Megabits is eaten up in several days and I am put on LOW priority in the satellite and usually speeds near dial up. They also want to charge $175 dollars to come out and make any adjustments to make it work better. This should be free!!! They make you sign up for 2 years of service with a penalty if you cancel your service early. Of course they do that, as they KNOW that their system stinks.
The service cancellation requires you to send back their electronic equipment, a modem and a device on the satellite. NO problem, they send a box for me to ship it in and I would return it. NEVER got the box and the UPS tracking numbers show this. But they still billed me $325 for the equipment, even though it was THEIR fault. I talked to two people (one a supervisor) and they would not issue a credit until the equipment was received. They sent another box by ground UPS that will take at least a week to arrive and probably the same to ship back to them. So my money is tied up for at least 2 weeks, probably more like 3 or 4. I was told that I just had to understand that they had issues with the system and that a technician would be at my home on the 19th. When I asked how I could be assured that they would show up this time, not wanting to take off from work another day and them not show, I was told that I would just have to wait. My Viasat experience was a painful one, to say the least. I was a remote employee and moved to a rural area with only access to Satellite internet, so I wanted to go with the best option. I started with Viasat Home, but quickly realized I could not have internet calls, meetings or sync documents with my company. A tech came out to check the hardware and told me I should upgrade to Business as he knew that there weren't Business customers in the area and so I would have better and more consistent bandwidth. The only thing that changed is that I started paying almost $100/month more AND the 24 month contract started over (which I wasn't made aware of).
A situation arose where I had to move and was going to have a temporary hardship situation. I called to cancel and was advised of the early termination fee. I was told it would be processed immediately; it wasn't and I never received an invoice or communication, but it processed one month later. In fact, I have never received any kind of statement from them. They process the payment, send any email thanking me for the payment and then the next day they process the invoice...but don't notify me and I only see it if I log in. They also do not come to remove anything from the dish on the roof and I have been reaching out to them (3 times) explaining my situation, but they have not responded. If I ever have to go back to Satellite internet again, I will NOT go with Viasat, no matter what the circumstances are.

Speeds are slow BEFORE you reach your data cap, especially during daytime hours. Nighttime hours are actually pretty good (12am-8am) for satellite internet. There's a noticeable delay in voice only phone calls (ping rates over 900ms are expected for any satellite provider). You will generally find yourself explaining that you have satellite internet on every phone call - I personally get tired of explaining why my connection is bad, and having to repeat myself several times during the call.
With the ping rate so high, you will never game online - even though in ViaSat only tells you "some online games might not work" - ALL online games wont work. At max you need the ping below 100ms. The worst, and reason for my rating... "Unlimited" (100gb) Plan - costs $189 per month. While during the day you can expect 250 KB/s up to 1.5 MB/s speed... going over the 100gb however, I'm getting 50 KB/s speed. Repeat, 50 KB/s -- to make a comparison, SLOW dialup internet in 2000 was 56 KB/s, you could get 256 KB/s on DSL. That's DIALUP SPEEDS if you go past the 100gb plan for $189 a month. A 720p/1 hour video will cost you 1 GB of data. A 1080p/1 hour video will cost 1.5gb. 4K videos are about 7gb per hour - but you wont be streaming in 4K because you'll never get the speed to support it.
Last thing - WATCH YOUR BILL: I decided to upgrade my package to Unlimited Gold (or whatever they call it), you can do it through their app. The bill came around and they charged me double $378 for the month (I only had Unlimited speeds for a few days, since the billing period was ending soon) because I upgraded. I planned on taking a loss anyway but not two bills for the upgraded package I had for a couple days. The questionable part of that? I setup a card with a limit of $189 (price for one month). So the initial payment was denied and I manually made a single payment of $189... After I paid that, the extra bill disappeared, as if it wasn't even there. After paying $189, the bill went from $378 owed to $0 owed. Meaning they were planning on ripping me off, because only $189 was due. They were deliberately going to rip me off with a "billing error".

***WARNING*** Absolutely no recommendation for this internet provider. I signed up for the plan known as "unlimited" 25. Sounds simple right??? WRONG??? No plan could be further from unlimited. First of all the the plan offers the consumer 25mbps in speed for $75 a month which is very acceptable for rural areas. The problem is these speeds are not guaranteed and are subject to reduce depending on "network congestion" ((a term I heard a lot during the numerous troubleshooting calls)). I felt as though I spoke to the Viasat team more often than my own children which is crazy...
In the few months I was with Viasat I can count on one hand the number of days I could actually utilize my internet. I would call in, they would fix it, I would hang up, and then a few hours later back in the same boat. "Congestion" Occurred everyday from late afternoon till late evening. Literally everyday when I needed to use the internet it was congested and speeds would hault to the point of no use at all. At one point they told me I "ran out of data for the month"???? Really??? I mean we were 13 days into the month and I "ran out" of data in a plan called "UNLIMITED".... now they will tell you you still have unlimited data, but the truth of the matter is they slow your internet down so slow that you can't even send an email or receive a picture on your phone... so I guess technically it's "unlimited" however it limits you to no use.
I tried to exit my plan after voicing my frustrations first to a CRS, then to a Supervisor, and I ended up being charged $350 to cancel my internet with them. So here's the math. I paid $300 up from so as to not rent my modem. I paid $75 a month for internet I could not use. Then I paid $350 to cancel it. They got everything they wanted (which was my money), and I got nothing I wanted (which was functioning internet). Does this seem like an equitable trade??? Hell no.. Stay away from Viasat and DO NOT let them rob you like they did me...

I live in a rural area and a misleading internet search stated this company had a well rated consumer review for internet services. Since internet is very limited for those who live in "the woods", I decided why not. Huge mistake. The First issue was when the initial installation. They called me the day of approximately 2 hours prior to the time agreed upon and said their tech didn't have the proper equipment to install the dish. (who doesn't carry the equipment to install a dish which is your main job???) so it was rescheduled for the following day.
I never received a call from them to let me know they were on their way. I finally received a call at the very latest time they said they would be there and then told me it wouldn't be installed because they were running behind. Well that's day two that we had to rearrange our schedule for installation and it not be completed. I called, complained and said I wanted to cancel my services.
With a little bit of persuasion they got me to agree to give them "one more chance" and even offered a discount on the first bill. Uhh sucker am I. Anyways, they GUARANTEED it would be installed the following day between 2-5pm, like the prior two days. Well that day rolled around and I got a call at 10 am saying they were on the way.
When I told them no one was home because that wasn't the time set, they said they couldn't do another time because he wasn't the tech for my area and lived far away. Very annoying but managed to get them to install with my 14 year old instead of someone who was 18 years old. Ok, finally installed. Got home that evening after work and attempted to use this amazing internet promised.
I got nothing. Couldn't use my laptop, my kids couldn't use the gaming system. I was able to connect my phone, but it still "buffered" and didn't allow me to use it properly. I was done with them already. The following day at 630 am I called and cancelled my account. They said they cancelled it but I would be charged for the remaining months of the contract. Um, What?! I had this stupid internet for less than 24 hours and it didn't even hold up to their promised speeds or even minimal speeds.
So the agent spoke to the dispute department and said they would review the dispute and I would have to call back and see what they decided by the end of following week. Wow, long time to decided on their mistakes but ok. Fast forward to 4 days later, I was charged for the first month's bill. Called in and spoke to an agent, Alex ID: **, he stated that I would not receive a refund because I agreed to the contract despite their lack of commitment of the speeds or the fact that I had it for less than 24 hours.
I then mentioned the other few kickers I didn't mention yet. The contract didn't even have my name on it. It had someone else's name on it and their electronic signature. The contract wasn't even set to go over UNTIL after it was installed. When I advised him of that he stated that the person who signed me up told me about the contract so I knew about it.
Yeah with any agreement there is a contract BUT they only skim over it and don't give you the entire thing to read and agree to before signing. I was told to call back tomorrow to talk to someone who was above him. This is the most ridiculous "internet" provider that is out there. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone in this world.
Not sure who actually rates them as a good company. It appears legal action will have to take place if they don't agree to waive everything and refund me the amount already taken out. I originally obtained internet service from WildBlue Satellite. Wildblue was acquired by Viasat. My original account plan was for 15 GB usage for $ 90.51 per month. The cost was based solely on usage. I have retained the same plan since the initial installation. On 1 March 2021 my Visa account was charged $94.66 for my monthly fee for satellite internet usage. There was no explanation or notice in my account file for the additional charge. On 10 March I called the Viasat alleged customer service. As best I could understand the Latino customer service rep he indicated that the additional charge was some form of tax based on my leased equipment. I explained that I had no lease agreement with Viasat for the equipment and my payment was based solely on “usage”. He could not provide me any information as to what government entity the “tax” was being submitted to.
The only Terms and Agreement document I have is the original paperwork from my Wildblue installation. It does not mention any lease of equipment, charges for such leases or tax on the leases. I was never provided any changes to my agreement with Wildblue, when Viasat assumed the service. The Viasat web page contains the statement “After this first bill, your statement will include single-month charges only”, which is clearly false information. Viasat is a prime example of the current generation of tech companies that is totally void of any business ethics knowledge or practices. They have exported their customer service function to Monterey, Mexico. This allows them to pretend they offer customer service and pay a minimal price for it. In fact, any company that exports it customer service to a third world country that barely speaks English doesn’t give a damn about customer service.
The Viasat incompetence provides barriers to even getting to the “customer service”. The computer asked for my phone number. After entering my phone number 4 times it was rejected each time as invalid. I was then asked to enter my account number. It was rejected three times. I then had to wait for a customer rep to answer the call. Amazingly when he answered he already knew my name, phone number and account number! The Viasat web page/log in seems to get changed every 3 or 4 months. Each time it gets worse and slower. I suspect the “satellite” experts are trying to be software experts.
Every 3-4 months I get an error when I attempt to retrieve my email via my Wildblue email account. The error is that the Security certificate for the email site. “The site attempts to identify itself with invalid information” or the “Security certificate is expired”. In order to get my mail I must check off that “I confirm the security exception” each time I access my mail. When I complain the problem is corrected and then 2 –3 months later it happens again. What is so difficult about maintaining a valid website security certificate? I would surmise that Viasat would rather see Wildblue email, which they inherited from Wildblue, simply disappear and therefore provides no support to maintaining it.
In summary Viasat should be banned from the satellite business.

It’s been two days dealing with their customer service where they say they wish they could help but admit it takes days to get management to respond. They only offer to escalate issues with no resolution or refund. They’ve since emailed me twice saying that since my son had called trying to get his video games to work in November that’s why they’re charging us for failing for months because we must have only needed a different service provider for his gaming and their last email said they’re allowed to provide slow internet and still charge customers to cancel.
My internet did not work for months reliably at all. Slow would’ve been ok even. I hadn’t been able to work the hours I needed to from home with their internet service failing. I’m wondering how many customers there are who Viasat financially screwed over when they failed to provide reliable internet and then still charged them to cancel. Their reviews are crap and they’re pulling illegal crap. Especially during Covid this is unconscionable. How many have to have had it with this company to do a class action I’m wondering.

Where do I start. First I called them to cancel my service one month prior to selling my house. They canceled it that day leaving me with no internet for a month. When I realized what they did, they wanted me to sign for another 24 month agreement to reconnect the service. What?! Of course that made no sense and never heard an apology for the inconvenience they caused. Then I had to repeatedly called for the return equipment box. I could get every other package from every delivery company but for some reason I couldn't get their box. FINALLY, over a month of calling, I got the box. I returned the equipment in a timely manner and thought I was done with this company but no! I received a charge for $265. I called them that evening to understand the charge for equipment when I returned it. The rep confirmed that they received the equipment and I should receive a refund in the next 7-10 days.
After 14 days, I called back to see why I haven't received a refund. I was then told that I didn't return a piece from the satellite dish. What?! This wasn't in their return directions. And let's think about this.... They want people to climb on the roof to take a piece of the dish off?? I'm a single mom and don't even have a ladder high enough to get to the roof. DirecTV asks you to recycle their equipment and this company (associated through DirecTV) wants you to climb on a roof. This company tops my list as being one of the worst companies out there. I learned a $265 lesson and will NEVER be another customer of Viasat.
The suspect they won't be in business long considering they can't support basic internet service and provide the worst customer service. I'm writing this to help people make an informed decision before signing up for internet provider. If I could give them a negative star rating, I absolutely would. A one star rating is not the appropriate rating.

We have had service with this company since 12/2019. I decided to move away from our DSL provider because of the low speeds, and Viasat was one of only 2 other options. When I first did research on this company, we didn't find a lot of bad reviews at the time (apparently this site never showed up in my searches). When they hooked up, the tech was friendly and knowledgeable, and didn't give any impressions of being a horrible choice... That's where the good times ended with this. Since then, I've had to bump our service up to the max in our area, and increase our bill to a whopping $165 a month. And STILL, we get 1-2 weeks of good service before we top out. 2 Tv's and a computer, with occasional cellphones (2) on the network. This somehow equates to 200+GB a month in data use...
Friday, 2/4/21, our internet was completely shut off (not the normal .25mbps we get at the end of our billing cycle). I talked to their tech support, which told me our antenna wasn't aligned (had a re-alignment 2-weeks prior to this) and it would be 2-weeks to get someone out to fix it. I requested to elevate our situation with their supervisor, Pablo, who was even less helpful. They rely on a 3rd Party company to provide service, and they are absolutely unable to fix anything in less than 2-weeks... (Funny, the re-alignment took 48 hours for a tech to show up, definitely quick).
In addition, as it turns out, the dish isn't out of alignment... Today it's working again. For the entire time we've been with this company, we've gotten the runaround. They play games with their customers, push to go to higher contract tiers to fix ramped data usage and still throttle them down after a week or 2 into their cycle. No solutions, only pay more and that will fix it, then nothing gets fixed. Done with this company, and recommend others to stay clear of them! You're better off hotspotting off your cellphone than paying for this garbage! DON'T GET SERVICE WITH VIASAT! You will only regret it in the end!

I contacted Viasat for service and explained I needed unlimited data as I use it to stream and was informed that there plan was 25/Mbs unlimited for $100/mo for the first 3/mo then $150/mo. It would be a 24/mo contract. Of course I agreed. After a few days the installation was performed and after the installer left I was then emailed the details of my internet. This is where I found the hidden information that I was only allowed 60/GB per billing cycle after which once you exceed this they prioritize the data. What they actually do is throttle your service. Before HULU and Netflix worked only because we had not exceeded the 60/GB. Once the 60/GB was passed HULU will no longer load, Netflix picture is fuzzy or continues to buffer so if you don’t mind only being able to watch Disney for $150/mo plus the $7/mo for the Disney channel that’s fine but this internet is definitely not worth the money.
I was never informed of 60/GB cap per billing cycle and it’s apparent they do not inform anyone of this. I have since filed an FCC complaint for Breach of Contract. Save your money unless you desperately have to have internet. But I can tell you this much - I get better internet on my Verizon phone than Viasat and it’s cheaper.

We tried this provider and the customer service was ok. Had to get the modem/router replaced twice in a month, they said that wasn't normal and can confirm that another user had theirs for over a year no replacements. Luckily we didn't have to pay the service charges on either of those incidents(about $100). I wasn't sure of our data usage but quickly found out that we used the entire allowed amount in about 2 weeks and they didn't have a higher option for us. We have 2 tvs, 4 computers and 4 mobile devices that use data so our usage is almost 1T/month. I was turned off by the large cancellation charge and being told to ship back the equipment. I requested for pickup and was charged just under $100. We are lucky have a better option available to us but I do hope they get better data plans for future customers. Feeling ripped off isn't fun.

I would not even give one star but it required one to post this review. This company should seriously be ashamed charging the fees that they charge for this so called internet, (I pay 90 bucks a month) you will be so much better off using a hot spot from your phone. I will be paying to cancel my contract early. I should have known The day we had it installed.... The installer said it was only slow because it was cloudy outside. They advertise speeds that are not even close to what they say they will be and over the past two wks I have called four to five times because I can’t even check my email. I have absolutely no internet connection at times?
Technical support said last week they were aware of the issue. There was an outage near where we live and have people working on it, couple days later it worked and yup back out again today. I called once again to tell them. They said today, "Well there must be a storm headed your way because it says it’s out due to the weather condition," (absolutely clear day outside today). Living in an area without conventional internet or cable can be a challenge. There are few options when it comes to getting internet, and ALL OF THEM SUCK!!! Viasat has the highest data allowance, but it is also the most expensive. They say it's unlimited, and that they don't throttle your speed...but they do "prioritize" your use behind other customers that have not yet reached the, not data cap,..."suggested monthly consumption amount". So basically they don't like the terms, "throttled" or "data cap", but that's EXACTLY what they are. It’s a real shame that my first ever review I’m writing on this site is tragically negative. I would have written it on Google reviews if they were on there. Maybe Viasat is so bad they couldn’t even be posted on there. I have read some reviews at a couple of sites before dealing with this atrocious internet company and saw that they were very mixed. I wish I came across this site instead, I might have evaded these scammers! But even out of all the bad reviews I’ve read here (and ALL of them are bad), I haven’t read one that complains about the horrible experience I have unfortunately been subjected to with this company. So this will be the first of its kind. Let me explain.
So last Wednesday, I ordered and paid for the Viasat Internet installation, the Gold Plan, scheduled actually for today on Monday. Well, everything seemed fine and dandy, until I received an email reminder for the installation a couple of days after I ordered it (New Year’s). That email showed an incorrect address for which the service was to be installed. The incorrect address was wrong in ways that I couldn’t understand because when I initially told the representative my address who signed me up for the service, he said some of the numbers of the address wrong, I corrected him, and had him repeat it until it was right.
So how could they mess this up? So I went on the live chat to seek an immediate solution and was horrified to find out that I must cancel my account just to be able to correct my address and then reschedule the installation. I didn’t think this sounded right. So when I called and actually spoke with a representative over the phone, I was told that he would put it in the technician’s work order and on the day of installation when the tech calls me I could give them the right address. I hung up but I wasn’t satisfied with this answer because it contradicted what the other representative said in the live chat. So I called a second time and explained my issue all over again and this representative told me I indeed would have to cancel my account, but like the representative on the live chat, she assured me that I would not have to pay for the installation fee again.
So she transferred me to get this straightened out but I ended up talking to one of the most incompetent, unprofessional customer service representative I have ever spoken with in my whole life. This woman should not be working. This person sounded like she was really high and zoned out.... far out. After dealing with her nonsense she FINALLY transfers me (AGAIN!) to yet another customer representative who then informs me that the Sales Department is closed!!! I wasted up to 40 minutes trying to get a hold of them just to be told they were close all along! So I hang up, call back, explain all over again and get in touch with the supervisor. He reassures that the Sales Department was indeed closed.
So I called back again earlier today and just find out that I actually DO have to pay for the installation fee again!!!! That’s a load of **! So I go back to customer service and demand a refund, while letting them know I will never do business with these hacks again! But the representative claimed that he could not see any purchase of the installation on my closed account! So I demand to speak with the supervisor. The supervisor this time I think was different from before.
They sounded totally different. He explained that they can’t see everything on file for me because my service wasn’t installed and therefore was never even activated. But he said the refund was processed the day it was cancelled (even though I found it strange that he had to ask me when I cancelled because if he didn’t know when I cancelled how would he even know when I would get a refund at all?). He kept speaking over me and cutting me off, telling me that the refund will take up to 7 - 14 business days to go through.
Feeling defeated, I just decided to end the phone call as politely as I could (though I really wanted to curse him out like I did the customer service representatives the day I cancelled this crummy service). So what’s the moral of this story?: “VIASAT WILL CHEAT YOU OUT OF YOUR MONEY AND ALL SATELLITE INTERNET SUCK SO BAD IT AIN’T EVEN WORTH IT!!!” My only real solution to be able to get internet is to move out of the middle of nowhere!

I talked with two separate sales representatives to make sure I was getting the right plan for my needs. I spent quite a bit of time with each of them providing specific information of my use on the internet. Was told by both reps to get the Bronze plan. I used the service for 2 days only as it was worse than my cable service with 3 Mbs. Over the next 10 months I talked with several customer service reps and supervisors to stop my plan and get my $300.00 installation fee returned.
One supervisor who waived my contract also told me I should have never been sold this plan and that they have had other issues with improper sales information given to customers. After speaking with more than a dozen people the last rep told me the installation fee would not be refunded. This is such bad customer service given I had the equipment installed in good faith I was getting a good deal only to discover it was horrible. Still no willingness to refund the installation fees. Will never recommend this company to anyone!

Sales rep said Viasat streams movies & Zoom but it doesn't work reliably. When I'm on Zoom or Skype people say I look fuzzy or blurry. There are long audio delays--- someone's lip moves but you don't hear the word till 30 seconds or a minute later!! The internet connection is chronically unstable and can be fast and then so low that it renders no service and these variations can happen all in one day (i.e. 17 mbps in the morning and .78 in the same evening).
There is always an unsatisfactory signal to noise ratio (between 5-6) and always severely high latency (above 600 and sometimes 700). When your allotted data used up, your supposedly unlimited service slows way down - sometimes impossible to get connected and download anything. Technician has told us what the signal noise ratio should be and it is never in the right range. But when I call the company they tell me via phone that they have performed tests (remotely) and everything is fine. So they won't authorize a tech to come. I'm looking at other options.

Absolutely, the worst satellite service period. The rep misinformed me about how the service actually worked. Literally with one person using this service it lags. This company is a fraudulent provider, and actually signed a contract without my knowledge or permission. For what we pay for internet it is horrible to have the amount of "possible" coverage. Unless you really have zero choice, do not get this internet provider. They never informed us of the data limit, as you use the data it becomes slower over time. You will be either forced to use snail internet service, or buy into another plan which probably won't work either. Poor customer service, as well as poor internet service. I highly recommend looking around for some other alternative to this service.

My wife and I recently moved to a rural location just south of a major city in Texas. Given the area the only service providers are Viasat, Hughes Net and a few scattered fixed wireless providers, none of which can service our address. We chose Viasat because my wife is active duty military and needed access to work from home intermittently due to covid. We signed up for the Unlimited 30 plan. The first month our Data cap was hit in 10 days, and even inside of that window the service does not allow my wife to login to her desktop at work. Viasat also told us that we would see around 30mbps, I have yet to clock a speed above 9mpbs and we average about 2-5mbps download and about 0.5 upload. We also received our first bill outside of the promotional cycle and it was 168 dollars and change. We were quoted 150$ from the service.
The extra was 10$ for their modem and 8 dollars for a care plan which I didn't ask for. We were told by their representative that the care plan is in case anything goes wrong we wouldn't have to pay for a tech visit. How would it ever make sense to charge someone for a tech visit if the problem is with YOUR SERVICE. They also told us that the cancelation fee is 15$ for every unused month of service you have left on a ridiculous 2-year contract and actually asked, when we mentioned considering canceling, if we thought the cancelation fee was high enough to make us reconsider.
Using cancelation fees as a bludgeon against customers who have little to no other options in terms of service is just disgusting. It's a little ridiculous that in 2020 a company can capture an area and exploit and abuse its customers so viciously and still have a license from the FCC to conduct business. I would rate Viasat Negative stars if it would allow me. Avoid this company. It's not worth the headache or the hundreds of dollars it will inevitably cost you.

I purchased a 2 year contract with Viasat under the Gold "Unlimited" Plan. Let me be clear with you, since they will not... This is in NO WAY whatsoever an "unlimited" plan! I informed them (before I purchased) that I had 5 people in my house- with 2 of them online schooling right now, through the Covid-19 pandemic. I said I would absolutely need reliable internet service for this. They assured me that this plan would be perfect for my family. Then they roped me into a 2 year contract with the promise of delivering what we needed for services.
In literally 2 DAYS after acquiring their service, they informed me that we had already used all of our 100GBs for the whole month... And this was basic usage on our part, too... In 2 days... Which means now we cannot get an internet connection/homeschool/watch movies/make calls on our cell phones during "high congestion" hours... That means from 8am till at least 11pm, our service is completely useless, until the next month renews the new 100GBs- which then only lasts a few days..
On their contract they state that if you go over your 100GBs, they .."may prioritize your data behind other customers during network congestion, which will result in slower speeds...." This is a blatant LIE. The speeds don't just slow down- your access to any internet connection stops almost completely during 'high congestion' hours. You will NOT be able to get online until late late at night. Now the only time my children can get a reliable connection to homeschool is from 1am-5am....?!? And if I back out of this contract- they penalize me hundreds of dollars. They LIED to me about the service I would have, and when I called to complain, they said they could only offer me tips on how to conserve my GBs... That's it.. My children have no way to school now and I'm stuck with a service we can barely use for 2 years. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT PURCHASE VIASAT!
