They would not honor the driver course certificate discount saying it goes by the policy renewal date not the date on the certificate. We're veterans who have been customers for decades. They do not care for veterans.

USAA went to crap after being with them for almost 20 years. They charged us 3x what competition was charging for home owners yes about 2k extra for less coverage. Then the claims process on a vehicle I got scammed and caught them. The comps they used for other cars were scrap vehicles. Yes I proved that. They comped a recent sale that was towed away not running and another with significant damage. Compared to mine that was in great shape. They are disgusting and I moved all my auto and homeowners and saved money doing it. Still waiting 2 years on a claim they did not do all the adjustment work on and they blame me for not calling more often to complain l.

I have been a customer with USAA for over 37 years, and they hired a third party to deal with towing my car by the name of Agero. Agero hired a tow company by the name of Emerald Valley Towing who came to tow my vehicle and damaged my vehicle costing me over $1500 in repairs! I sent Agero pictures and even asked the towing company for some help, only to be met with a defensive and verbally abusive owner at Emeral Valley Towing who said that he would NOT show the dashcam video that he had which would have proven how they loaded my vehicle to be towed to my mechanic.
My mechanic received my vehicle and immediately called me to ask if the vehicle was making grinding noises before it was towed, and I told him no. I filed a claim with USAA and the claim was denied by their third-party towing company Agero without any evidence of an investigation! USAA used to have great customer service a few years ago, now all they have are people who don't want to make any effort to help their customers. I would not recommend USAA to anyone!

Don't believe the phony service hype by USAA. I have had their auto insurance on 2 new cars in CA for over 10 years, never had a claim and pay nearly $4k yearly. An idiot in my parking garage hit my car while I was going 3mph. USAA claims was a total nightmare. The so called adjuster was finally fired by USAA but his manager in AZ wasn't much better. They never return phone calls ever. The online claims message system is a joke. Not to mention the endless phone tree's and authentication process.
Then like clockwork they reported the accident to lexisnexus who then reported it on my Carfax. They said I wasn't at fault since the other vehicle entered my right of way. I am STILL 6 mo later trying to get diminished value (legal in CA) to cover the reduced value of my car because no one want's a bad carfax as the car dealer told me last week. I have nothing positive to say about USAA especially the total lack of ownership of the people that work there and hide behind a gigantic impossible phone system. I am cancelling myself.

I was in a accident with a USAA customer about a month ago, she backed into my car (a red mustang) and tried to push it, talked to the insurance representative Carolina **. The first couple days everything was going fine until I submitted pictures and caught her in a lie, spoke with her manager Jesse, he tried to cover it up after a couple weeks later, a video was sent showing I m constantly blowing the horn, but they stated I m blowing the horn constantly but she already backed out, make it makes sense, eventually found out everything was a lie, customer that was driving the vehicle, Carolina ** stated never received my photo and etc, the incident report (I work for the police the department, I would have seen it at hand), They let it slipped out after a couple of weeks back and forth nonstop.
I m a ** middle age man driving a customize mustang and she's a older ** woman driving a Chevy terrain, I didn't believe the issue of race and age would play a factor, I just can't believe people would still have that mindset of ignorance but I forgot you can't take it out of them. All you can do is pray for them and advise others don't do business with them.

On my birthday, a woman hit my car left a note with her name and number and not her insurance information because she was trying not to use them so she can save money on her deductible. Once I did get ahold of her, she argued with me of what part of my car she hit and then refused to tell me her insurance information, so I called the police. The police did get her insurance information from her and she was USAA.
My entire experience with USAA has been the worst experience I've had with customer service probably in the last 10 to 15 years. Their agents, even though I am the "victim" of this circumstance treated me like I was below average intelligence and had a completely condescending tone during every phone call. They will tell you everything they won't fix without ever seeing your car and without the AutoShop ever seeing your car. I would never use the AutoShop that they recommend due to the fact that they will make judgment calls of what they will and won't fix without ever seeing your car. The agent that spoke with me was named Ronald. And his boss was a woman who I don't remember her name, but I tried to call her just to get a different agent.
I didn't even ask for the supervisor, I just asked if I could speak to an agent that wouldn't talk to me in a disrespectful, condescending tone like I am stupid and the supervisor refused to transfer the claim to anyone else, because she fully supported how he talked to me and also agreed that they can make decisions of what they don't have to fix without ever seeing the car and without the auto body shop ever seeing the car. I have no idea how this company still operates but obviously it's all about the money and just screwing people over. I really hope this insurance company fails and the 2 people that I spoke with understand what the word condescending means someday in their lives.

I am a policy owner and have a open claim. Adjuster hasn't called us back and check seems to be maybe lost in mail... As a policy owner I should be able to call and speak to someone but they cannot "authenticate" me even with my policy number, social etc, etc and so I cannot even contact someone on my policy I pay for. What service! Was told I could write a letter and they will get back to me...

Settlements are fair, but the adjusters don't treat policyholders with respect, nor do they listen to policyholder statements. They put their own interpretation onto situations without looking at all the facts. Adjusters take the easy way out instead of conducting a thorough investigation. They ignore policyholder questions, and refuse to explain their process for determining fault. They don't consider state laws either, and refuse to speak to witnesses even when available. I've had three claims over the last decade, and each time I've been treated as if I were a liar and cheat.
First time I was t-boned by someone running a red light, and USAA acted like I was the one who ran the light. Second time my car was broken into, and USAA tried to blame me for the damages. This last time they're refusing to consider any liability on the other driver's fault, even though I've pointed out multiple factors that increased his liability. Throughout the process the agents have treated me with contempt and disrespect, despite my clean driving record for nearly 30 years.

Customer (no longer members) for about 40 years, after needing to wait until I was commissioned to get it. I maintained the highest level of coverage for the entire period as a 'just in case' something bad happened. Well, it did. USAA just settled for six figures after five and a half years of delay, denial, and slow roll. That was only after filing a lawsuit for 'breach of contract.' I was hit from behind at a red light by an underinsured driver. I received a small settlement from the driver and needed that to reimburse the Veterans Administration and my required lawyer for the associated medical care; USAA refused to pay for even acupuncture for pain management because, according to the adjuster, 'Couldn't read the doctor's notes,' or words to that effect.
I am looking at neurosurgery and likely orthopedic surgery soon; I've been using PT and acupuncture since the accident just to function. My quality of life has declined significantly, and I can't perform the contortionist routine needed to get into a sedan anymore. My regular exercise routine, post 34 years of military service, is impossible; I cancelled my gym membership, and walking over a quarter mile causes significant pain. This situation has really destroyed my travel and retirement plans. There was an auto vandalism claim in 2017 or 2018; the adjuster subtly blamed me for attempted fraud. I had to speak with his boss to stop the accusation and get the car repaired. This should have been a warning for me. The wonderful advertising campaign about taking care of military and their families is a complete fabrication, at least in my case.
The claims process is a horror show. All my old military friends say they "fired them" as their insurer. Bottom line: Don't believe the advertising, and ignore the new CEO's letter to members (customers) and employees. Yes, it is lower cost than some, but in my experience, they won't honor a contract with you. They are a poster example of 'you get what you pay for.' Their slogan should change to: "Nothing is too good for our military customers and their families—so nothing is what they'll get!" Go in with your eyes open; I've been with them for 40 years and am now shopping for another company. How will they treat you?

All insurance is a society scam and I wouldn't pay if it was not a legal requirement. This review is not reflective of only USAA, but if somebody reads this, hopefully it will help educate you. I needed a windshield replacement for a 4Runner. A valid expectation is that a vehicle should be restored to the same condition in which it was prior to incident, and that it should be 100% covered, considering the fact that I pay for full coverage. However, that is not the case. Restoring my windshield to its original state requires OEM glass, OEM moldings and a re-calibration of the sensors.
USAA would only cover me the cost of replacing with an aftermarket unit. Aftermarket glass is NOT restoring the windshield to its original state, and most aftermarket units have sealing and calibration issues. Therefore, I essentially was paying a full coverage premium for sub-par parts and labor replacement. Talk about a scam and I'm the sucker! I didn't settle for this and still went with OEM glass, moldings and calibration. I did end up getting only partial coverage. I will give credit where credit is due. The USAA rep I dealt with did give me a fair estimate quote for reimbursement, that was slightly higher than the quotes I obtained myself for aftermarket replacement. So the representative I feel did what they could considering the confines of a system that is intended to purely profit the company with no care of consideration to the circumstances of the consumer.
These systems are not only the fault of USAA. It's all insurance. However, people need to stop following blindly to insurance's stupid advertisements and paying premiums for a sense of security. The moment I pay off my 4Runner, I will reduce the coverage to the minimum and the amount I save, continue to invest in my own emergency funds. Invest and save into yourself when at all possible, not some company with the hope they will have your back. At the end of the day, they care about padding their wallets, and don't give two shits about you.

I have been a USAA customer on and off for 19 years. Wayne Peacock is out of touch with his clients and employees. USAA opted for some hokey crummy low budget digital verification service which makes it impossible to communicate with USAA. God forbid you need them. Multifactor identification is a great buzz word but I guess you don't know your veteran customers very well. Face ID and biometrics is also STUPID because I suspect USAA doesn't protect this data internally and will not tell us when they are hacked. Claims Department is unavailable nights, weekends, mornings, afternoons and they play this four minute essay on their service plans and how to call the manager who is not responsive. Going back to AAA. There was no cost savings.

Easily the worst customer service of any company with whom I've ever done business. They require a PIN for login as well as an online ID, neither of which have ever worked for me. Every time I've tried to contact them for anything I've had to reset my password, online ID, and/or PIN number. It literally takes hours of frustration to get anything accomplished.
I filed one claim with them and when I was dealing with the claims department (a man named Courtney) I was talked down to, and cut short in the middle of me describing the accident. He was extremely rude and his exact words were, "EXCUSE ME...Mr. (My name), when are you going to get to the point? Does this story have an end?"
The app logs me out automatically and asks for different login information each time. I then request my online ID and it tells me what my online ID is, but then after I enter it again, it says the online ID (that they just sent me) is not correct. I'm cancelling my service with USAA and will happily go back to paying $80 more per month for GEICO to avoid the frustration of dealing with this incompetent bunch. NEVER AGAIN dealing with USAA.

USAA was good when they were a credit union with MEMBERS. Now they are a bank with SUBJECTS and you really feel the difference. It seems they just want to extract everything they can from subjects while giving nothing back. If you do have an issue (as when my vehicle, with DV plates, in a Disabled Space, with me barely able to hobble, was vandalized while parked - ostensibly a hate crime under federal law), USAA not only did nothing to help - they bent over backwards to make things worse. So rather than have someone in your corner in your hour of need, you have someone actively working against you. Disappointing.

After not quite 60 years with USAA, they cancelled me. Got out of the hospital and combing thru a full 5 gallon bucket of mail found a batch of cancellation notices. They didn't call me!! (Many days I couldn't answer tho.) I guess us old elderly members aren't important to their decisions in the new USAA corporate expanse. I should have paid more attention to their legal problems and $ consequences the last few years. I guess corporate profits and expansion have become their goals rather than service to us. It's a shame!! What a genuine disappointment for those of us that pointed fellow service members to USAA. ---> WON'T BE DOING THAT ANYMORE <---

My husband and I have been loyal USAA members for over 20 years as of 2025. We have become completely dissatisfied with everything from their banking to their insurance within the past few years. We have canceled our auto and homeowners policies through them as they are OVER twice as expensive as other reputable companies. They claim to offer better coverage and payouts yet the one time in 20 years in which we recently tried to file a claim it was denied. By switching companies to State Farm, we are saving over $400 per month in home and auto insurance. I wish we would have switched years ago and not wasted our money.
Furthermore, we recently had fraudulent charges posted to our bank account. USAA took months to "resolve" the issue. Finally, they told us the activity was not fraudulent and refused to refund us the money. I'm still unsure how they came to this conclusion as it was never explained to us how they thought the series of charges made on my debit card at vending machines in Maryland were somehow we made by me while I was located in Wyoming and hadn't visited MD for a decade. In conclusion, save yourself some money and hassle and go to another company who doesn't pretend it's serving military members while gauging them instead.

I have been a loyal USAA customer for over 11 years. Back then, the service was outstanding — I could call and speak with a real person who understood what it meant to serve Veterans and their families. They were helpful, responsive, and truly seemed to have our backs. Unfortunately, that has changed. Over the past couple of years, USAA has stopped being the company I trusted. Trying to get someone on the phone now is a frustrating maze of automated menus. When you finally do reach someone, the support feels rushed and impersonal.
The final straw for me was a recent flood claim on my homeowner's policy. I was shocked to find out that damage from groundwater wasn’t covered — something I wasn’t made aware of when I bought the policy. It felt like a bait-and-switch. USAA no longer seems to serve Veterans — it serves shareholders. I’m deeply disappointed to see a company that once stood for something meaningful become just another corporate entity putting profits over people.

The value that they assigned to my car, which their customer totalled, was reasonable, and then they deducted almost $2000 from that for "mileage" (my car had a totally normal amount of mileage for its age) and "existing damage". They refuse to negotiate or show any documentation that shows how they decided on those deductions, just saying "it's not an exact science".
They also had Copart pick up my car without authorization, from the garage where it had been towed. I had specifically told USAA that it was NOT authorized until we agreed on an amount, and they took it anyway. Then they blame the garage for "not telling them" that it wasn't authorized - but the garage says they DID tell them and they took it anyway. I'm inclined to believe the garage. Their whole attitude is basically, we do what we want, we don't care about you, you take the amount of money we offer and that's it. Unless you take them to court (which of course most of us can't afford to do), you don't seem to have any recourse. I hate them and I wish I had never had to deal with them.

Good luck getting to talk to a human. My auto insurance claim experience was dreadful. My biggest complaint was with an annuity I had for 7 years. When the term ended and I requested my money they dragged their feet for 6 weeks at a time when I desperately needed the money. This was despite numerous phone calls and false assurances on when I would receive MY MONEY. I can’t express in words how unhappy I am with USAA.

I had a USAA insured guy back into my JEEP SUV. After the police report it was determined that he was at fault. He gave me a copy of his USAA insurance ID. I was told by my insurance company (Farmers) to get an estimate. I went to my Jeep dealer and asked them for two references who do body works on Jeeps. I went to one of businesses and got an estimate but they told me that they no longer do not do business with USAA. How can I get my SUV fixed if the body service company refuses the USAA.
The guy who has fault has USAA auto insurance. USAA has a bad reputation and auto shops are refusing to do business with them. I am going to go back to Farmers and tell them what's going on. IF I can't find an acceptable auto shop to accept USAA I have to go to Farmers and ask them what to do. Since the accident was not my fault I am sure Farmers will not want to pay. I am caught in the middle here because apparently USAA cannot do business with these shops which were recommended by my Jeep dealership. This is BS.

I have been a member of USAA for 27 years, but for the last 6 months, something has changed - USAA doesn't care about us veterans anymore and I am now going to close my accounts. Forgive me, but this rating is going to take a while. A few weeks ago, USAA called me (came up as USAA on phone) to ask me if I had zelle'd $5000 to someone in Chicago. I said no, of course not. The USAA rep then said that the same person had hacked into my account and disputed all of my outgoing payments for bills, including my mortgage, credit card and utility bills. The USAA rep listed all of the amounts that were in dispute and then listed all of my accounts with the current balances.
In order to fix what the hacker had done, they issued a $5000 credit. The USAA rep then told me that part of the problem was a payment that had gone through Cash App, which my husband had used previously to sell a car, and to fix that problem, part of the credit had to be sent to Cash App. $2400 of the credit was sent through to Cash App. Of course, my emotions were high, and I was freaking out that none of my bills had been paid and someone stole $5000, and this wonderful USAA rep was fixing everything. In the next 5 minutes though, things got very hinky. The USAA rep tried to send the remaining $2600 through Cash App, but it was denied as a suspicious transfer, which of course the USAA rep said was fine, they were working with Cash App on the back end and they would transfer it through Zelle/Venmo (can't remember which), and they got an additional $50, but after several minutes of "suspicious" trials, the USAA rep then said "to fix the remainder of the account you will have to go to a local bank".
BIG RED FLAG - so I immediately hung up and called USAA back directly and talked to someone in the fraud department. That USAA rep told me that it was not USAA that had called me, that there were hackers that could spoof their phone number. I told the real USAA rep that the hacker was already in my account, they saw all of my info, so the Real rep told me to change my passwords, which I did immediately. He then said he would dispute the payments to Cash App and Zelle/Venmo. My accounts were then put on lockdown just in case the hacker was still in the account and could do more damage. I asked him if I should file a report with the police, but he said it was not necessary as USAA was handling everything. And that $5000 credit that was in my account? Well, that was actually my money. The hacker transferred $5000 out of my savings to my checking account but made it look like it was a credit that USAA posted.
I felt a little better since USAA could tell that it was not a random credit. Since my account was in lockdown, my husband and I had to use credit cards to pay for everything. We didn't hear anything for a few days, so I called to find out what was going on. The fraud rep that I was transferred to said the first fraud rep did not dispute the charge to Cash App, so she had to do it, and she didn't know why the account was in lockdown, so she unlocked it. She then advised me to close the accounts and open new checking and savings accounts, which I did. This process took several days and when I called USAA to link my current debit card with the new account, I was told they couldn't do that, that a new card had to be issued. Why didn't they tell me that when I opened a new account! Then I was told I would have to pay a rush fee of $20 if I wanted the cards faster.
While this is going on, I get a notice from USAA that the transfers to Cash App of $2400 and the zelle/venmo charge of $50 were valid and not fraud - ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!! I called USAA and the Rep - very rude in a very sweet way - proceeded to tell me that USAA is not able to retrieve the funds from Cash App and that it was my fault for allowing the hacker access to my account and transferring the money voluntarily. She said there were security features in place that I did not follow - and I said "what security features? USAA called me, knew everything about my account". She said - you gave them your login and password - I said I most certainly did not - they were already in my account. She was very rude, snooty and clearly did not care that I am now crying, angry and scared that my family just lost $2400!
I asked her how the hell am I supposed to get my $2400 back? She hemmed and hawed - she obviously didn't know. So I immediately hung up and told my husband to file a dispute with Cash App. Cash App told my husband that USAA does this a lot - and since we didn't file the dispute immediately, we probably weren't going to get the money, so thanks USAA for lying to me and saying not to worry about it.
But there's more - I have a previous history with USAA and their fraud department. A few months ago, my husband bought a car for $4500 cash. I notified USAA that I needed a higher ATM withdrawal amount for that day and my limit was increased to $4500. I went to Wells Fargo to withdraw the cash (USAA doesn't have local ATMs) but their limit was $1000, so I went to a 7/11 and started withdrawing $250 at a time (limit per time). The 2nd time I tried, the card was declined - I "assumed" it was the machine so I left and went to another local bank. I tried to use the ATM but was declined 2 more times, so I called USAA. The rep said that my account was in lockdown because there were suspicious withdrawals. I informed the rep that I had increased my limit for the day so why was my account in lockdown? She said, yes, she could see that and couldn't give me an answer.
I was then told that I would have to wait 3 days for my account to be reviewed - "NOT GOING TO HAPPEN" I said and you better transfer me to a manager, so she put me on hold for 2 hours and when I finally talked to a manager she said that the only department that could help me was the fraud department so I was put on hold for another hour and when the rep from the fraud department got on the phone, she said that she didn't know why my account was put in lockdown when I clearly had made arrangements to have a larger withdrawal limit. It took her 20 minutes to unlock the account and oh by the way "thank you for your service and your 27 years with us". Goodbye USAA - all you have done for me in the last 6 months is lose my money and make me cry.

DISABLED VETERANS BEWARE!!!! I became a USAA member when I joined the Marine Corps over 20 years ago. During that time I have never had a claim and have bundled multiple policies through them. Recently, I filed a claim and was told that they were not going to cover it. They left a message informing me of this decision and asked me to call them to discuss it further. I have tried to reach out to my claims agent by phone and through direct messaging, however he will not return any of my messages. I am not upset about them not covering my claim, I am upset in how they are treating a loyal customer of 20 years. They have been taking my money for over 20 years and do not have the courtesy to return my messages.
Additionally, I have had issues with the autopay feature where USAA changes the the account that I want to have the money taken from to a card that is expired that is still linked to the account. I have tried to remove the card to no avail. Since they change the account to be paid from an expired card the transaction is obviously not going to go through, so USAA charges me extra for a late payment fee. I am changing companies to GEICO. They have lower rates for similar coverage. I recommend veterans and military members look at other providers. This company does not value veterans, or its customers.

After 18 years of being a loyal USAA customer, we find ourselves grappling with a frustrating experience that has left us questioning whether it’s time to part ways. Throughout our relationship, USAA has been a dependable ally, standing by us during tough times. We’ve always appreciated that support—until now. Recently, my husband received a notification indicating that our car insurance payment was due on a specific date. Naturally, he made my payment right on time, only to discover that our policy was canceled regardless. It seems that even when we follow the instructions provided by the app, we can still end up in a bind. To add insult to injury, he was informed that we could not simply reinstate our policy but would instead need to start a new one—with a hefty down payment that feels more like a ransom than a routine process.
It’s ironic that after nearly two decades of loyalty, we are now faced with policies that seem to have shifted away from supporting military families. It’s as if the rules have changed overnight, and we are left wondering if USAA still values the relationships it has built over the years. If this is the new norm, we will have to consider moving our two insurance policies and eight family bank accounts elsewhere. I sincerely hope USAA can find a way to resolve this hiccup and restore some of the faith we once had in them. Until then, we are left feeling disappointed and ready to explore other options. In short, we loved USAA, but I’m not sure they still have our best interests at heart.

Absolutely Horrible Claims Experience — USAA Has Lost My Trust. I’ve never been more disappointed with a company than I am with USAA’s insurance claims department. What I experienced was nothing short of deplorable customer service from start to finish. Despite repeated follow-ups, my calls were ignored or not returned, and I was constantly given the runaround. I was told multiple times that “the check was in the mail,” only to find out days later that this wasn’t true. These weren’t simple delays or misunderstandings — these were blatant lies. It's unacceptable from any company, but especially one that claims to serve military families with integrity.
Their lack of communication, transparency, and accountability made an already stressful situation infinitely worse. This entire experience has made it painfully clear that USAA does not value its customers, and I can honestly say I hope I never have to do business with them again in any capacity. If you're considering USAA for insurance, I strongly urge you to reconsider. What was once a trusted name has clearly lost its way.

I'm not surprised that the reviews for the last few months are reflecting disapproval and disappointment for USAA. I too am angered by their recent changes in their services. They have almost tripled my auto insurance payments! It seems that they are making the service members, veterans and their family members pay for any financial losses that the company may have undergone. I live in Florida so everything is going up, but this is ridiculous!

I am beyond frustrated with USAA and feel compelled to share my experience publicly so others are aware of what’s happening. Last November, I was involved in two accidents in about a week. I promptly reported both incidents to USAA and provided photos as requested. USAA told me they couldn’t determine which accident caused the most damage and instructed me to take my vehicle to a repair shop for further assessment. The repair shop reviewed the photos and my car and confirmed that the majority of the damage was from the second accident, which carried a lower deductible. Based on this, I paid the required deductible and expected USAA to handle the rest.
Instead, USAA has refused to pay the remaining balance to the repair shop. Now, both the shop and USAA are contacting me repeatedly, despite the fact that I have done everything required on my end. This situation has become a huge source of stress and wasted time. To make matters worse, when I called USAA for help, they refused to speak with me because I didn’t have my PIN number. I asked for alternative ways to verify my identity, but was met with a rigid, lengthy process and zero flexibility. The representative was rude, talked over me, and ultimately hung up.
I have always paid my premiums and followed every instruction, yet USAA has made it impossible to resolve this claim. I’ve heard from others that USAA’s service has declined, but I didn’t want to believe it until now. Sadly, my experience confirms it. If you’re considering USAA, be warned: their customer service and claims handling have deteriorated significantly. I am at my limit with this company.

My recent experience with USAA has been profoundly disappointing and unacceptable, permanently altering my opinion of the company and discouraging me from ever becoming their customer. For context, I am the son of a veteran who had been a loyal USAA customer for many years before his passing. My negative experience began in December 2024, when a driver fell asleep at the wheel and drove through both my yard and my neighbor's property, causing thousands of dollars in damages. Because the driver responsible was insured by USAA, I promptly reached out to file a claim for reimbursement of the damages incurred.
When I initially filed the claim, I clearly communicated not just the damage to my own property, but also to my neighbor's yard and a nearby telephone pole owned by the local utility company. My intention was to ensure the agent understood that multiple parties had been affected by this incident. After taking my statement, the agent informed me I would hear back from them within approximately one week. However, after waiting nearly two weeks without any update, I followed up with USAA myself, only to be told they were still finalizing details. Ultimately, it took over a month from my initial submission for USAA to send me a check covering the damages I suffered. Had this been the end of my experience, I would have been mildly irritated by the lengthy delay but generally satisfied. Unfortunately, it was only the beginning.
Several weeks after receiving and cashing the reimbursement check from USAA, I discovered—without any prior notice or explanation—that the check had been voided. After two hours on the phone, being transferred among multiple representatives, I was informed that I would have to wait an additional two days for the adjuster to return to the office and clarify the issue. When the adjuster finally contacted me, she explained that USAA had mistakenly issued my payment prematurely, without first contacting the other affected parties for their damage estimates—even though I had explicitly informed the initial agent about these parties. The adjuster attributed this oversight to a "technical error" on their end.
I was then assured the adjuster would promptly reach out to the other affected parties to obtain their damage estimates. Yet, after another month passed without updates, I contacted her again. I learned that the electric company had not provided their damage estimate, and worse, that the adjuster had not even contacted my neighbor because she "didn't know how to reach them." I was never asked for my neighbor’s contact information, leaving me to personally facilitate the connection between my neighbor and USAA. Additionally, I had to follow up with the electric company myself to expedite their damage estimate submission. Looking back, it is astonishing to me that I had to take on tasks clearly within USAA's responsibility, such as contacting my neighbor and the electric company. These unnecessary burdens significantly prolonged an already frustrating situation.
Unfortunately, even after all parties submitted their damage estimates, USAA still required over a week to process everything and provide final reimbursement figures. What followed was even more frustrating. The USAA agent informed me that, due to the policyholder's insufficient coverage limits, I would only receive reimbursement for roughly 70% of the damages I incurred. They explained that the combined damages to my property, my neighbor's property, and the electric company's property exceeded the policy limits, resulting in a partial reimbursement for my losses.
At this point, I expressed interest in possibly pursuing the policyholder directly for the remaining damages, given that USAA was unable to fully compensate me due to their client's inadequate coverage. When I explained that I needed time to consult my attorney before deciding how to proceed, USAA responded with subtle threats. They cautioned me that if I pursued legal action against their client, they would have no choice but to defend their policyholder by hiring legal representation, potentially resulting in lengthy delays and additional costs for everyone involved.
After consulting my attorney, I now face a difficult choice: either incur significant legal fees, court costs, and personal time pursuing the policyholder for what is rightfully owed to me, or accept USAA's insufficient offer and absorb a substantial financial loss from an incident that was entirely someone else's fault. It is bewildering and frustrating that USAA would aggressively defend a policyholder who is severely underinsured, effectively penalizing victims like myself who have suffered substantial losses.
Moreover, I struggle to understand USAA's incentive structure—why would policyholders ever opt for higher coverage limits if the company will defend them vigorously regardless of their inadequate coverage, prolonging the process and making it extremely difficult for victims to receive fair compensation? In summary, this experience has severely undermined my trust in USAA. Their lack of communication, internal errors, excessive delays, and unwillingness to fairly compensate damages have left me deeply dissatisfied and thoroughly deterred from ever becoming a customer.

USAA to be a "value" based auto insurance company. A couple of years ago (2021) they bought NOBLR, pay as you drive company, that based premiums on the monthly mileage AND your safe driving habits, that used s Cell Phone App to track criteria such as use of phone when driving, stopping... As a retired person, no accidents or tickets in 40 yrs and driving about 3,000 miles per year, it was a good program. Customer service and coverage were about same as USAA. USAA just dropped NOBLR, because NOBLR was too "efficient", i.e., cost-effective, as they did not have the "bloated" overhead of USAA.
I have been with USAA for about 55 yrs for home/auto/personal in about 5 different states--no accidents, 1 minor wind claim. I knew USAA would raise NOBLR's rates after they bought them, based on their history with other businesses such as Investments, auto buying, banking, etc. (and told NOBLR) It now happened. NOBLR is gone in April. My auto insurance of $846/yr due to low driving and good driving habits=less risk (makes sense) is now $1,700/yr with a "whopping" $84/yr savings from my HomeOwners insurance! That also went up, and with less coverage than with NOBLR (a USAA company) AND with the USAASafePilot Miles program.
I was told the reason USAA did not keep NOBLR was because USAA was not capable of integrating their Cell Phone application with that of USAA (which does not surprise me), but, in reality, it's because USAA has become so inefficient in with its operations, it did could not compete. Granted, ALL insurance companies are expensive now, USAA has a fairly good claims record, is rated A++, but it tends to over insure coverage, and then discount quotes to "bundle" home/auto/? to get to a desired, relatively competitive price. Noblr would probably need to raise rates also, However, why it costs 100% more for auto insurance for USAA is probably because they need to cover more the overhead and costs for other business operations that are not run efficiently as they should be? Perhaps USAA should sub-contract to Elon Musk/DOGE for awhile?

I was wrong. My adjustor was out sick allegedly off and on for weeks. This made it very hard to get my process going and to hear back about updates. Frequently I was left out of the know, important details were not relayed to me and when I called asking why that was my adjustor blatantly lied to me saying she already tried calling me and I didn't answer. I immediately felt back and went to my missed calls, voicemail, and even in the trash to see if I had missed it. I had not missed that call and have received calls in the past. When I told her this, she kept insisting it was my fault, and I didn't call her back. It got so frustrating, and my mom felt they were trying to lie to me because of how young l was. She had to call and argue with the adjustor over this issue.
The only person who helped in any way was Jennifer, and she was only calling because Catherine was sick and never called or messaged me back. I think this process took probably double as long as it should have, I was lied to and accused of lying. Clearly this issue is still bothersome after so much time has passed. We received no apologies and little understanding from my adjustor and thought deeply about switching companies. My experience with USAA has been nothing short of a nightmare. After being involved in an accident on September 4, 2024, where a USAA-insured driver was found at fault, I expected a professional and timely resolution of my claim. Instead, I have endured five months of delays, mismanagement, and outright negligence, leaving me with mounting financial and emotional burdens.
The handling of my claim was riddled with incompetence from the start. USAA repeatedly failed to adhere to industry standards and regulations. Their representatives, including the assigned adjuster, provided inconsistent information, delayed inspections, and ultimately declared my car a total loss based on erroneous calculations. Despite assurances that this designation was a mistake, USAA failed to correct their records, perpetuating the confusion and delaying the resolution further.
Throughout this ordeal, communication with USAA has been a constant challenge. Reaching a knowledgeable representative has been nearly impossible. On several occasions, I was redirected to individuals or departments that had no authority or context to resolve my claim. Attempts to escalate the matter to a supervisor were met with either indifference or outright disregard.
USAA’s refusal to cover necessary costs, such as towing, storage fees, and a rental car, has caused severe financial strain. My vehicle, a Rolls Royce Wraith, remains disassembled and immobile at the body shop, accruing thousands of dollars in storage fees due to USAA's inaction. To make matters worse, USAA repossessed the rental car they initially provided, leaving me without transportation and forcing me to bear additional costs out of pocket.
Perhaps most concerning is USAA’s apparent disregard for ethical practices. During a conversation with a representative, I was informed that the at-fault driver had been involved in another accident three weeks after mine. This blatant violation of privacy laws not only highlights their unprofessionalism but also suggests a deeper failure to manage claims fairly and equitably.
In summary, USAA has demonstrated a complete lack of professionalism, transparency, and accountability throughout the claims process. Their handling of my case has caused significant financial loss, emotional distress, and unnecessary strain on my family and business. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend USAA to anyone seeking reliable or ethical insurance services. This experience has been a clear demonstration of how an insurance company should not operate. If you value your time, money, and peace of mind, I strongly advise against trusting USAA with your insurance needs.

USAA claims that it’s not their responsibility because their insured client was on company time when she went to buy breakfast at Chick-fil-A and got in the accident. They clearly don’t care about anyone being inconvenienced. So my son and his wife have lost time and money because of having to navigate with one car. You can call and leave message after message and no one returns your calls.

HIRE A LAWYER IF YOU HAVE TO DEAL WITH USAA AND AVOID CLAIMS REP ALISON **!! Oct 20, 2021, a USAA policyholder slammed into the back of my minivan while we were stopped at a bus stop on the way to school. The policyholder, 100% at fault, totaled my car injuring me and my two children, age 12 and 14. Alison ** of USAA refused to contact us until Oct 26, 6 days after the accident despite us being the victims. Over the past 3 years my children and I have had numerous medical issues from the high-speed impact itself as well as mental distress, like PTSD, from the traumatic experience. I called Ms. ** on Oct 4, 2024, and left a voicemail asking where to submit our final claims as both of my children had most likely stopped growing and their back and hip pain had mostly subsided.
Ms. ** sent me an email advising me to email our final claims to email address, **. Oct 21, 2024, I submitted all final claims to the email address. Oct 22, Ms. ** called and left me a voicemail asking me to call her to discuss my claim but didn’t leave her phone number or ext. Ms. ** then emailed me after her voicemail confirming that she received my claim and would extend the coverage for my children and me to cover the expenses and asked me to call her but did not leave her number or ext.
On Oct 23, I emailed and called Ms. ** with the details she requested from her email and asked for her phone number and ext. From Oct 24-29, I emailed and called Ms. ** every day asking for her to confirm my email and return my call and also left a voicemail for her manager, Adam. Oct 29, I emailed and called Ms. ** again, asking her to confirm my email and return my call and told her that if she continued to ignore me as a victim, I would file a complaint with the BBB, Consumer Affairs, and the South Carolina Dept of Insurance. I also left a voicemail for her manager, Adam, again. No response from Ms. ** or Adam since Oct 22.

I’m incredibly disappointed with USAA’s auto and home insurance services. Despite being a loyal customer who has paid thousands, my recent experiences have been beyond frustrating. Their customer service is terrible—representatives are dismissive, unhelpful, and even disrespectful. On multiple occasions, I've been misled and deceived, only to have my calls abruptly ended when I asked to speak to a supervisor. This level of service is unacceptable.
Trying to cancel my policies has been a nightmare. Instead of making it easy, USAA has thrown numerous obstacles in my way, making an already stressful situation even worse. Unfortunately, I have no choice but to voice my frustration here because I doubt they’ll take any action. I just want to cancel my policy and be done with them. USAA prides itself on serving those who serve, but my experience has left me feeling undervalued and disrespected. I hope they address these issues and improve their customer service, but I won't hold my breath. Save yourself the hassle and look elsewhere for insurance.

As a veteran, I feel violated by this company that is supposedly for the military community. I trusted and believed all the commercials where they steer you toward that belief. First of all, auto insurance nearly double what my husband and I (both veterans) got offered from a company that has no ties to military community. Secondly, I got a balance transfer credit card. I am fully aware that I will incur a balance transfer fee. That is standard protocol. What is NOT STANDARD PROTOCOL is the first statement I just received is 500.00 for one month. They MAKE YOU PAY the entire balance transfer fee on first bill. Normally, the fee is put into the entire amount owed. I just called and spoke to a representative and told her how unhappy we are with this company. Told her I would like to stay on the line when she hangs up so I can take the survey that was offered to me while on hold. She said, "Sure," and hung up on me. Well, now here I am.

She was not living in home, had her own car in her own place and her own job. When they would not remove her from my policy, I decided it was time to move on and canceled my policy and closed my accounts.
I live in Florida and insurance rates are skyrocketing and just plain insane so I tried to give you USAA another shot. I set up an auto insurance policy over a weekend paid my first payment and then I tried to get a homeowners policy. Due to my location, they were not able to help me over the weekend only to find out they are not ensuring homes in my area. Without a bundling discount, the rates were not gonna be any better than any currently with Florida Farm Bureau. I canceled my policy that same day.
My original payment on this policy of $267.79 was pending at the time I canceled my new policy. The charge went through my bank, so I called USAA to find out about my refund. I was informed that back in 2016. I had an outstanding balance on my old policy ironically for $267.79. I am being told I will not get a refund that was applied to a debt that was owed, even though it was paid for my new policy that had been canceled. I’m not providing FREE advertisement for USAA As I wanna make sure, I let everybody that I can know about their shady practices. Utterly dishonest & irresponsible employees, a website that is nearly non-functional, and an obvious company policy that they will accumulate as much money from their customer as they possibly can, ethics & legality be damned.
Specifically, I interacted with Wendy & Patricia from customer service, each of whom exhibited a core dishonesty &, with Patricia, a nasty, arrogant attitude. Wendy told us that USAA needed a specific document to resolve this issue. I provided that document the same day, and never heard back from Wendy (she assured me that she would call back the following Monday). Now I sit here today getting a run-around and backsass from Patricia, who refused to transfer me to Wendy, and is now making Wendy into a liar, claiming that USAA now needs 5 separate documents instead of the 1 that Wendy had asked for in order to resolve the issue. When Patricia refused to identify herself and started with the backsass, I instructed her to transfer me to her supervisor. Patricia then put me on hold for ~50 minutes and then hung up.

This is referred to as "discovery obstruction" or "withholding of evidence," and this unethical practice is often used to avoid paying out higher costs, and pressured the insured into taking a lesser value than their vehicle is worth. Also, they said I had "accident forgiveness," and my insurance would not go up, but it did go up from $90 to $110, even though I went from a BMW 5-series to an older model Subaru Impreza. I have never been more frustrated. We have insurance bundled on everything from house to cars to homeowners insurance. We called months ago to add our daughter’s renters insurance for her first apartment. When she had to change unit numbers, we thought it would be a simple call… It is turned into seven calls —45 minutes each because each representative is trained differently, told differently—-there is zero consistency with their knowledge. The first representative could not simply change the unit number and had to write up an entirely new policy. Then try to get a manager on the phone because our monthly cost tripled with no explanation. Later I found out it’s because she wrote it under my daughter's name and not under me with a bundle discount… Then she didn’t put the correct dates. We had to call back again. Then that person realized she didn’t cancel the first one and we had two policies on two different apartments.
Then we called back, they put the wrong names on that policy. Then when you call, it is so frustrating to simply get through—you give them a phone pin, a code, then they ask you three security questions but if you don’t know your “username” online which I never go online to login. they can’t help you. So six security questions…? Really? There is absolutely no common sense or consistent training.

I have had USAA for both renters and auto insurance for several years and they were great. Up until I filed a claim for an accident that they deemed I was at fault for. I filed the claim, and then using the online portal was greeted with a "go pick up your rental" after grabbing my rental (which was a seamless process) my adjuster reached out to me the following day. On that phone call they were taken aback that I had gotten a rental already stating that I was not authorized to do so.... even though the app had me go do it.
They then proceed to get my statement and said they would grab the other driver's statement (who was driving a work truck). After grabbing that driver's statement they told me that I was at fault and that the other driver stated I was wrong and then the adjuster AGREED WITH THE OTHER DRIVER. I failed to miss the point where the insurance company I paid to represent me would not do the due diligence to find fault. Especially in a he said / he said situation. Did we audit the company's GPS data? Nope. Did we ask for dash footage from the company? Nope. The driver said I was wrong so I must be wrong. Frustrating to say the least.
However my main problem is with the rental car. I tried to return it several times as the shop I was using to fix the vehicle was going to give me one. Enterprise stated that I could not return it until USAA talked to them. On 07/05 the Enterprise calls me and goes "oh by the way you have been charged since 07/01 USAA refuses to pay any more." I go to my claim portal and there is nothing stating I needed to return my rental or that I was going to be charged. I contacted my adjuster who then proceeded escalate and berate me on the phone stating I obviously should know better. I asked for help and she said "managers would approve the extension but trust me no manager would ever approve yours." What a piss poor representation of customer service. I in good faith can not trust this company any longer.

This means I would have been $12,500 ahead if I did self insured instead of insuring with USAA. My claims have been very painful. For my stolen tires, the assessor said they were not stolen but friend prank, when my vehicle was stolen in Naples Italy I had to prove the location of my second key. For when I my parked car was hit in the parking lot I had to prove fault and damages. For when my car broke down (with tow service) I had to wait 8 hours in 115F temperature. The truth here is this company will totally disregard you even if their insured is at fault. They will give you the run around about not being able to reach their insured, after your insurance company does their work for them and they admit fault they will still not pay the claim. They will want you to go to their Inspection centers and hope you get a fair diagnosis. Their insureds will lie, they will lie and they do not care what they have done to your life. I had an older car, paid for, but still in very good running condition.
After being hit in the rear at a stopped light my car just stopped running within 72 hours. They told me to call them back if anything changed before I was reached by the adjusters, so I called them and told them, they did everything but call me a liar and have told me if I want them to pay for my bumper I have to take it to their collision centers. As for USAA their lack of concern to make me whole and lack of professionalism as adjusters speaks volumes about them as people they do not even come out and put eyes on the vehicle, how can you do your job if you are not putting eyes on? They have left it to me now to tow my car into a shop if I choose and pay for a diagnosis, again someone else doing their job for them. I called in again to get someone to expedite a transfer and they wouldn't transfer me to a rep until I stated what I was calling for, but despite me shouting into the phone they couldn't seem to pick up anything from me and kept on ranting their automated message.
Then the lady who finally picked up said she would "warm" transfer me this time and that it would be only 2 min. (Why then wasn't it that way for me the first time?!) Well, I have now been on hold for another 15 min and there does not seem to be any intention of picking up, again. They probably are over there twiddling their thumbs or having an extended lunch break. Bottom line is, USAA SUCKS AND I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND NOT USING THEM!!!!

I was recently involved in a car accident. I'm a USAA member, that was hit by another USAA Member. A car swerved into my vehicle on the highway as my brother and I was driving home. We tapped bumpers twice (the initial hit was to my passenger front tire fender, and front center bumper) as the driver was trying to correct itself as if it was going to stop on the highway before the driver realized where we were to then drive to pull to the side of the highway. Clear night and there wasn't any rain or adverse driving conditions to warrant an accident.
When we pulled over, the woman who hit me was slurring words and tried to brush off the incident as nothing. I smelled alcohol on her breath. As I walked around the car I noticed to driver passenger front tire damage, then the scrapes to my front bumper from the second tap. She had scratches to her center bumper and damage to rear driver tire fender area. She didn't want to call the police, but I had already dialed 911. It took Dekalb County PD a whole week to produce a police report holding up my medical treatments from my attorneys.
I filed claims for the accident with my insurance and the other driver a fellow USAA member. Lisa J from USAA called me. I told her I couldn't start pain treatments from my attorneys until I got the police report. My injuries were really strong headaches and tensed/tight upper shoulders. Waiting on a police report I'm taking muscle relaxers and pain meds daily to get through the pain. Lisa J said USAA would give me $3500 to help me out. That was really thoughtful of USAA. She never mentioned it was a settlement for bodily injuries. I wouldn't have taken it. I had two friends who we in accidents who weren't hurt at all. USAA helped them out with almost $7000. Both of them are **.
I only want my car repaired, USAA didn't fully repair my entire front bumper only the damages to the front passenger side. Why was I offered a low amount? Because I was **? Lisa J said it was fair. It doesn't feel fair. I hope I never have another accident. I feel Lisa J took advantage of my not knowing of process. Her manager Will isn't any better. The dry remarks further fueled my frustrations. His lack of empathy or sympathy made me feel some kind of way about it all... This is my opinion of how USAA treated me. I'm still a member per my family. I just wanted to share my experience.

Run as Fast as You Can. My experience with USAA has been an absolute nightmare, and I urge everyone to avoid this company at all costs. Their mishandling of claims and blatant lack of accountability is shocking.
1. Unbelievable Incompetence: When my vehicle was stolen, USAA falsely claimed it was recovered within 7 hours. This was a blatant lie. It took over 20 days for any meaningful action, and their adjuster only contacted me after I repeatedly reached out.
2. Total Communication Breakdown: USAA's communication is non-existent. My emails and calls went unanswered for weeks. When I finally received a response, it was a denial letter filled with baseless claims of negligence and wear and tear, despite USAA lacking the complete service records from the dealership.
3. Ignored at Every Level: I escalated my concerns to multiple levels within USAA. My emails to the adjuster were ignored. My follow-ups with the supervisor were ignored. Even my emails to the CEO, Mr. Wayne Peacock, were ignored. This shows a complete lack of respect and accountability from the top down.
4. Cover-Up Tactics: Instead of addressing the real issues, USAA chose to ignore my complaints entirely. This is nothing short of a cover-up to avoid taking responsibility for their mistakes. Their behavior is unacceptable and shows a complete disregard for their customers.
5. Don't Be Fooled: USAA might claim to offer great service, but don’t let them fool you. My experience has been nothing but lies, delays, and disrespect. They are not worth your time, money, or trust.

As a matter of fact Stephanie **, a claims supervisor, told my wife that she does not return phone calls. She has definitely proved that. That statement alone proves how arrogant she is. Beyond disgusted. This company has tried to stiff me twice now when I had claims on insurance! We had a very simple claim (went on road trip, 18-wheeler kicked up a bunch of rocks that hit our vehicle, 1 cracked the windshield and one small dent in the hood). The adjuster was aggressive, repeating questions over and over. She would repeat back wrong information as if trying to trick you or asking for very specific details as if she was trying to trick you into answering in very specific ways. She grilled my husband and I both in separate phone calls as if it was a murder investigation and we were suspects!
It was so unnerving and strange! Terrible experience with the adjuster's name is Amera. You could hear this under tone in her voice as if she was angry, annoyed and didn't believe what you were saying. I felt very attacked and cornered for something so simple as rocks! Asking for tiny details that are hard to remember when you're driving on a major highway in traffic, following a GPS in an area that you don't know. She was asking things like how long had I been behind the semi-truck... for how many minutes. Why would I remember a detail like that? Cars come and go on the interstate. I don't pay attention to how long I am behind cars when driving hundreds of miles on a road trip???
You should never feel that the SERVICE you pay for is putting you on trial for reporting simple rock damage! We have been loyal customers for 15 years paying thousands of dollars to them. They tried to give us the run around and say that the rock damage was collision because some of the rocks bounced and didn't just fly through the air like a missile - thus making it my fault! What a strange statement - whether several of the rocks bounced versus flew like a "missile" would equate to one being considered collision. Have you ever seen an 18-wheeler kick up a bunch of rocks off the shoulder of the road??? They all bounce all over the place and some fly, some bounce....
Additionally, The manager won't call us back. After 4 hours on the phone talking to 5 different people - they are going to honor our windshield coverage to replace the windshield but still no word on the dent. TERRIBLE stressful experience - taking up throughout our work day! We are still waiting for the insurance claims manager to call us back. We have both spent hours on this and feel completely slighted for a service that we are paying for! Feels very crooked and back handed - I am going to look at switching to someone else and stopping all my accounts with them. I've now lost all confidence in their ability to provide a service.

After 62 Years of Loyal Membership, I Was Dumped by USAA. In January of 2022, we made the mistake of moving from Florida to North Carolina, adding many thousands of dollars to our taxes and causing USAA to dump our auto insurance into a North Carolina high-risk pool and cancel our umbrella insurance. We now have about 40% of our old liability insurance coverage for about 150% of the old cost. Moreover, this new insurance was sold by the USAA Agency, which, I believe, means that they collect a commission on the insurance which they no longer provide. Here is the story, based on my experiences, perceptions, conclusions, and opinion.
When my auto insurance in North Carolina renewed for the six months from Jan 5 to Jul 5, 2022, it had Part A Liability coverage of 500k/1,000k/100k. This coverage was renewed for the six-month periods beginning, Jul 5, 2022, and Jan 5, 2023. In May of 2023, I received a renewal notice for the period beginning Jul 5, 2023, with Part A coverages of 100k/300k/50k for, roughly, the same premium as the previous much-larger coverage. This dramatic change was not accompanied by any notification or explanation, except the standard form letter saying my rates had changed. I called USAA and was told that, since I now lived in North Carolina (which I had done for 18 months!), they had to put me in the North Carolina Reinsurance Facility (NCRF) where the new 100/300/50 coverages were the highest allowed.
After many hours of discussion with various USAA representatives, combined with research on the NCRF, I formed the opinion that, for unknown reasons, USAA chose to cede my auto insurance to the NCRF without any notification or consultation with me. No one at USAA could find any record of why or how this decision was made, and they even admitted that I received no notification because of IT problems. I escalated my complaint three levels to a very senior complaint-handler who spent most of an hour researching my case. Her conclusion was that nothing could be done, to which see added, “This really sucks!” She promised to forward the case “to the CEO” with a strong recommendation for some action. I heard nothing in well over a month and followed up with a letter to the CEO of USAA. This generated a phone call from another complaint-handler who told me, once more, that nothing could be done.
The next shoe to drop was the notification of nonrenewal and cancellation of my $5M umbrella policy when it expired on Jan 20, 2024, because I no longer carried USAA auto insurance on my car! A perfect Catch 22. The trifecta is that I was transferred to the USAA Insurance Agency, where they wrote new auto insurance, umbrella insurance, and excess umbrella insurance for me with other insurance companies, probably collecting a fee or commission from my new carriers. So, that is how we now have about 40% of our old liability insurance coverage for about 150% of the old cost. It is saddening to see one of the finest service organizations in my lifetime become another bureaucratic morass. I recommend that USAA change their motto from, “We know what it means to serve” to “We used to know what it means to serve.”

Title: Disappointing Experience with USAA Claims Department. My recent encounter with USAA's claims department following an accident left me deeply dissatisfied. Despite the clarity of fault and the honesty of the at-fault driver, who accepted full responsibility from the outset, navigating the claims process proved to be an arduous ordeal. Following a thorough assessment, my vehicle was deemed a total loss. Naturally, I requested that the provided comparables be rerun with parameters specific to my locale and the fiscal quarter, ensuring the most accurate valuation. However, USAA flatly denied this request and remained unresponsive to my inquiries.
Their refusal to accommodate such a reasonable request placed an undue burden on me, the party at loss. Instead of addressing my concerns and striving for fairness, they opted to shift the burden of proof onto me, effectively disregarding the importance of accuracy and transparency in their processes. This experience highlights a concerning aspect of USAA's operational procedures, which seem to prioritize bureaucracy over customer satisfaction. By denying a straightforward request to rerun comparables with more relevant parameters, they perpetuate a stigma of big business taking advantage of everyday people.
In conclusion, my interaction with USAA's claims department left me disillusioned and frustrated. Their unwillingness to entertain a reasonable request undermines trust and reinforces the perception of corporate indifference to the plight of individuals. As consumers, we deserve better treatment and a more empathetic approach from our insurance providers.

To begin, I changed to USAA based on their rates for service members, and the recommendations of others. The first claim I filed with them, many years ago, went so smoothly I transferred all of my autos to them, as well as homeowners, around a dozen different policies. Apparently, at some point, something changed. Their usual customer service folks are still wonderful, but the claims department has become an absolute nightmare. It used to seem like they were looking for any excuse for your claim to go through, now it is the opposite. I don't have time to recount the entire nightmare, but in short, my truck was stolen, and recovered damaged.
I had been assured throughout the 6 month nightmare that I would not have to pay the deductible, only to find out at the last moment that I would, and receiving a check that would not cover the repairs and me not being in a position to afford the difference and am now without transportation and unable to work. Previously, they turned down a claim on my car that was stolen by a volunteer with my non-profit, since at one time she had permission to drive it, unless I could afford the attorney's fees to file a civil suit against her. When my business was scammed and had to shut down, several former employees took advantage of the situation to steal whatever they could from my property on their way out. I lost another truck, and a car.
I recovered the car at great personal and legal risk out of desperation. It had been crashed at some point by the person who took it, and I filed a claim, which is still open, since again, I can't afford the deductible. And so the car sits. I didn't even bother with the other truck. All their crap about supporting vets has become just marketing bs, they are just like any other insurance company, their only goal is to charge as much as possible and pay as little as possible, and I can no longer in good conscious recommend them at all. I will be finding a new provider ASAP.

Somehow, USAA filed the claim against one of my cars which hasn't been out of my garage in months, let alone out of state. I've lost track of how much time I've spent trying to resolve the issue and the claim still shows up on my account. It's been almost 2 months. They need some government oversight.

Review: I had the unfortunate experience of dealing with USAA after my daughter's car accident. I cannot stress enough how dishonest and deceitful their tactics have been throughout the entire claims process. To provide some context, my daughter had just purchased her first car, which she saved up for two long years to finally purchase. She was driving cautiously and responsibly when the USAA insured driver ran a stop sign, causing a severe collision. It was a traumatic experience for her, with both physical and emotional consequences.
Despite clear evidence indicating their insured driver's fault, multiple USAA adjusters shamelessly turned the tables on my daughter, blaming her for the collision in order to evade their responsibility to repair her vehicle. Their conduct was appalling, taking advantage of a young, trusting (in honesty is the best policy) driver and attempting to shirk their financial obligations.
Throughout the claims process, the USAA adjuster consistently demonstrated a complete disregard for their duty to act in good faith. They utilized deceptive tactics and attempted to intimidate and manipulate my daughter into accepting liability for an accident that was clearly not her fault. They used every trick in the book to avoid covering the repair costs, effectively robbing her of the money she had spent so long diligently saving in order to purchase her first car (having purchased less than 2 weeks before USAA insured failing to yeild right of way, ran a stop sign causing the collision).
Furthermore, when we attempted to discuss the situation with their representatives, we were met with condescending attitudes and dismissive behavior. They lacked basic empathy and failed to address our concerns, leaving us feeling unheard and betrayed. The lasting impact of this ordeal on my daughter's confidence and trust cannot be overstated. It is disheartening to witness an insurance company, whose primary purpose is to provide reliable coverage, resort to such corrupt practices to avoid fulfilling their obligations.
I strongly caution anyone seeking insurance coverage to steer clear of USAA. Their lack of integrity, their dishonesty, and outright manipulation make them unfit to be trusted with providing genuine care and financial protection in the event of an accident. Save yourself the headaches, frustration, and potentially devastating financial consequences—look elsewhere for a reputable insurance provider.

My daughter has her car insured by USAA, with the policy called garage car, as she is in the military and on duty overseas. Last year, when I insured her car. I was informed that if I was going to use the car for any reason, I should call USAA and let USAA know when the car left the garage and when it returned to the garage. As the car had come from another state, the DMV requested to see the car, it was mandatory to go to the DMV driving the car and with all the documents requested on the list provided by DMV. I called 06/30/2023 USAA insurance, and informed them that, I was leaving with the car to go to DMV. When I got back home, I called and said the car was back in the garage. I did as USAA requested.
A month later, I received an outrageous bill saying that since the car was removed from the garage and USAA were not notified, the premium had been increased. It took me an hour and a half on the phone to resolve this issue. Due to negligence committed by a USAA employee who ignored and refrained from entering my phone calls 06/30/23 information into the system. The problem was solved. The Policy would expire in December 2023. In October 2023, I received an email notifying me of the next renewal, which would be in December. I called USAA in November, and the renewal from December 2023 - June 2024 was done and paid in full, $342.73, on November 9, 2023. Checking my emails recently I found one from USAA charging $104.65, this charge made no sense.
Today 05/01/24 I called to find out the reason for the charges. To my surprise, I was informed that the premium had been adjusted because the car had been removed from the garage since December. As? I explained that my daughter is still on the military base abroad, I have my car, and my husband has his. I work at home. After a long conversation the associate told me that the premium had changed and could be $2,912.59. And he would help me. I was choked. I asked the associate about the car's mileage and was told that the mileage in the USAA system had been reset. This would be proof that the car had been in the garage since 06/30/23 after DMV inspection. I was perplexed, how they could want to gain customers' trust and portray them as liars, cheats and dishonest.
That doesn't make sense, I would call it bad faith. And I had already informed the mileage before and after when the car was removed from the garage to go to the DMV 06/30/2023, and this car never left the garage again. Today 01/05/24 I went to the car and provided customer service and the mileage again. After a long conversation, the associate of USAA offered me to pay a reduced price for the insurance of US$601.68 Which I had already paid in November for the December renewal of the policy for 6 months total of total balance of $342.73. But the suggestion for the associate was. This amount would pay for the month of December only. The month of January would cost $104.65 billed per email. And there would be a balance of $258.95. I was frustrated. I did not understand why. The associate decided to transfer me to billing department. My daughter is still on a military base abroad.
The billing department told me that, they contact USAA deployment department, who said they were informed that my daughter had returned in December 2023. Really!!!! It’s pathetic. These people are not qualified to verify overseas orders that have not even been given to the military yet. This is ridiculous. It's completely disrespectful and even hilarious if it weren't so serious. My response to all of this; The lie, the abuse, the disrespect for the consumer have reached the top. Everyone knows what they don't know, they invent everything to not do the job right.
I was forced to pay $258.95 to insure this car from February to May. All the money paid in November for the 6-month renewal was left for December, with the excuse that my daughter is here. I paid because this car is tied to a contract with the bank. And the responsibilities that this involves, insurers are aware of. All confidence in USAA auto insurance went down the drain. The interesting that all excuses are convenient for them. Anyone above at USAA auto insurance care about this???

I have been a member with USAA for nearly 10 years now. I have received exceptional service in the past, but recently I am very disappointed with their service. My vehicle was deemed a total loss 3 times during my claim/repairs, it has been in repair status for 3 months, I was only reimbursed for 6 days of rental coverage, the adjusters including the manager are unresponsive and communication is unnecessarily drawn out. USAA refused to communicate with the mechanical shop and the body shop, which made my life very difficult.
I was doing their work to ensure the parties are getting paid, that my vehicle is being moved from shop to shop, and I had to frequently call USAA to receive any kind of status update. At one point they actually closed my claim as "resolved" simply because they claimed I was not responding... I was furious about that. They reopened my claim a day later because I was checking emails, the claims communication center and my phone daily.
Meanwhile, I signed a new lease when I was informed the first time that my vehicle is totaled, moved out of state and now have to have my vehicle shipped to me. From all USAA employees in the claim process, I feel ignored, misinformed, and not treated as a valued customer. I am writing this review because trying to resolve this matter internally has led to no results and at this point, I do not recommend USAA to potential new members, especially when I am paying $250 monthly to be insured for anything that may come my way...

I kept the policy until today 12/20/23. I noticed my policy increased more than $100 this was the second time this occurred because they said I had speeding tickets. Lies I had a seat belt violation and had zero points. This horrible insurance company increased my premium because of a hit and run accident that was beyond my control. I got a policy from All State for $113 per month with renters policy. To add insult to injury when I called to cancel the policy I was transferred 3 times and told to call back. Most unprofessional and unacceptable experience I’ve had with an insurance company. They’ve had my car for months, said they were going to fix it but then said the engine was messed up and refused to fix it until I had it replaced (engine didn’t stop working until after the wreck). Then they total it and send it to another company but wanted to give me a third of the value of the vehicle which was shady so I naturally disagreed so they back step and say, "Oh I guess, it’s not totaled out of pettiness and want to tow it back to a shop to have it repaired but of course it can’t be repaired until they fix the engine." USAA used to be a good company but now it’s all about corporate greed. Thankfully I’ve already stopped about 20 people from joining USAA and quite a few others to change over because these guys are crooks.

I've been a USAA member for 30+ years, and have had a few claims over the years. I recently hit a deer, and I have 0 deductible on comprehensive coverage, first off they tried to send a check based only on pictures submitted by me when I just wanted to take it to a shop and them fix, the assessment from the shop matched the amount they wanted to issue for a check closely. Then a week later with no contact from USAA or the shop, I called the shop and was informed that my vehicle was totaled and a write-off, so I contacted usaa and they told me that they were going to total it and give me about 40% of the vehicle value, take it or leave it. But my adjuster was on vacation, I attempted to contact USAA both through the app and phone, for a full week without response.
Today I finally got a response from a new adjuster and supposedly it was never totaled. Nobody seems to know what is going on. I've driven the vehicle over 300 miles trying to get it fixed at this point. I'm probably going to have to hire a lawyer to get anything done. All I want is my vehicle fixed. They seem to think paying me triple the cost of the damage but ⅔ less than the value of the vehicle is a good decision. Absolutely won't recommend them for anyone.

This company has really taken a turn for the worse in customer service. I recently had a claim with them after someone ran a stop sign and hit me. They decided the fault was 70/30. I wasn’t happy about it but just wanted my car fixed…. After I dropped my car off, it was determined the parts would take some time to come in.
For that reason I got my car back and returned the rental to save rental coverage time. USAA said they would update my reservation and that when I drop my car back off once parts are in, Enterprise would have my reservation. I was stuck at Enterprise for about 2 hours trying to get ahold of my adjuster or anyone that could fix my reservation. During this time, they were investigating the accident and would give me an update of whose at fault. It took me 21 days to finally get ahold of my adjuster who obviously hadn’t looked into it at all. I could hear her reading what it was she was suppose to do. This went on for 20 min as she worked through it.
Finally!!!! I get my car fixed and returned to me. I then wanted to put a diminished value claim in. Took almost a month to get ahold of my adjuster to get the paperwork. I asked her how to return it and she said there should be instructions on the form…there wasn’t. I uploaded the forms in portal and emailed them as well. This was in August. It's now December. I cannot explain the amount of times I have called, messaged, left VMs etc… Nothing. After contacting the BBB I finally get a message from Sean, a customer advocate. Shortly after, my adjuster sent me a short message saying my paperwork was submitted and that she will reach out “by Monday” letting me know the status of it.
Monday came and went, no update. Sean says he will look into my claim and reach out to me NLT 11/30, never did. I highly recommend young service members stay away from this company. I’ve been a customer since 2008 and this company has completely changed. If they are doing this to me, I’m sure young service members are being done the same way.

I switched to USAA early 2022 from ALLSTATE who I had for 25-30 years. I never pay bills late. 3 times in 9 months, USAA could not put our payment through. Twice they cancelled our auto insurance & reported a lapse to DMV which caused our payment to almost double. My husband called several times to make sure I could handle business because his travel & work environment make it almost impossible. Each time I tried I was denied & told he had to call because he is the Military Sponsor. I was able to take care of business maybe twice. We have $4,500 deposited into our account the first day of every month. Our bills do not come to $3,000. Plenty of money to cover our bills yet 3 times they said our payment was denied????
I pay all of my bills by AUTOPAY for 20-25 years with no issues by any companies. I have been married 30 years with no late payments. I caught one of the times they said Autopay did not work & gave them another credit card - with no balance to use if one did not go through (my husband had a day off & gave them permission to talk to me). It happened two more times. It was hard to catch right off because the amount of our bills vary by $300-$400. One time they would not work with me & by the time my husband arrived home at midnight it was too late for him to call.
I tried several times but was told they needed to talk to the Military Sponsor. By the time he could contact them there was a significant lapse in our insurance which affected our credit rating & caused our premium to go much higher. They just did it again. We caught the mistake right after Thanksgiving. They cancelled us the day after Thanksgiving with no notification whatsoever. STRIKE 3 - they are out. I found out our premium is going to almost double & our credit rating dipped. WE WENT THROUGH EVERY FORM OF COMMUNICATION ON OUR PHONES, SPAM FOLDRRS, JUNK, ETC. Nothing from USAA. No mail - nothing. My husband is an 80% disabled veteran & was in the NAVY 22 1/2 years. This is not how you treat a veteran who participated in conflicts.
USAA is exactly like DMV - they feel they are God. They do not listen or try to resolve or help you. I had Allstate for 25-30 years. Not once did they have issues with AUTOPAY & I never had a lapse in my AUTO insurance. I understand USAA had the worst financial issues in the history of USAA in 2022. Ripping off Vets is not a good practice to recoup a business’ problems. I saw in Consumer Reports that USAA was the best auto insurance hands down so I switched from Allstate to USAA. Worse mistake I made that impacted our credit rating & impacted our standing with DMV.
Many other people are having similar issues with USAA all related to USAA receiving funds from claims from other companies & sitting on the funds or similar issues with payments & cancelling insurance in order to receive higher premiums. HOW LONG WILL USAA BE ALLOWED TO LET THESE PRACTICES AWFUL PRACTICES BE PART OF HOW THEY DO DAILY BUSINESS? Customer Service pretty much just says “Oh Well, Have A Nice Day.” Not with USAA being your insurance provider - you will never have a nice day & if you do it will not be long before they did not receive for payment & cancel you. I never ever had these type of issues with any of companies I chose to do business.

After 50 years of being a USAA policy holder, I am ready to go elsewhere. I recently had a horrible experience trying to get my auto comprehensive coverage applied. It's not that I don't know they have lots of policy rules, it's that THEY don't understand them all, and worse, they do not communicate the claims process clearly to the customer. Not one of the now 6 people I spoke to seemed interested in helping me through the complicated process. They hassled me to make decisions without sufficient information, and forced a result I did not want. And after writing to the company, I found that the "advocate adviser" does not advocate for the policyholder, but simply backs up the corporate chain of command. I had to pay out of pocket for something that should have been covered. But the "rules" were never clearly communicated.

Years ago they faulted me for an accident where a high schooler backed directly in front of me without first looking because he was in a hurry to make a deposit for his store (this was at a mall), even left his car without moving it out of the way first, and ran to the edge of the mall parking lot to make the deposit for his store! And yet they faulted me for the accident WITHOUT EVEN NOTIFYING ME OR TALKING TO ME ABOUT IT AND RAISED MY RATE!
I know this was years ago, but for them to raise my auto rate now when I have NO TICKETS OR ACCIDENTS as much almost by half is ludicrous. They discriminate against women, or at least against me. I will look for other insurance. Just because others have accidents and tickets does not mean they have to raise EVERYONE'S rate! They won't budge at all. Take your business somewhere else! Everything proceeded smoothly until they decided to give me the runaround in repairing my car or compensating me for its worth. The adjuster was nowhere to be found, and it took me a couple of months to receive any response from them. They informed me that my car was a total loss and provided a specific amount they were willing to pay for it via email, stating that I could dispute it if I could find a car in the same category with the same mileage within a 100-mile radius. Unfortunately, I couldn't find an exact match, but I did find a vehicle that was one year older and one year newer, so I disputed the price they were offering.
They assured me they would get back to me in a couple of weeks, but I never heard from them again. Frustrated, I took the step of filing a complaint against them with the Texas Department of Insurance and the Office of the Attorney General. However, I received no assistance beyond the insurance company responding to me and denying my dispute without providing any tangible reasoning. This was after three months of back-and-forth since my car accident, with no access to a replacement vehicle or rental car.
Now, it has been five months, and they are attempting to push the responsibility onto my own insurance. These actions indicate that these individuals are playing games with people's lives, and there seems to be no one holding them accountable. It is disheartening to realize that we live in a country that is supposed to protect average citizens from being taken advantage of by large companies like USAA, but this has proven to be far from the truth. I make this assertion using common experience. I’ve been driving rideshare in my touristy town for over 8 years (12,000 plus trips) and given the time (11:30pm) and location (Downtown Nashville) no one with insurance and a valid driver’s license would leave the scene of an accident unless they were intoxicated. My phone number has changed. I cannot access my online account due to change. USAA wants to text me a verification text BUT! They do not have my current number on file. If text sent, message will go to my "old" cell phone which was my company cell phone for the past 10 years. I need to send USAA a copy of my driver's license to USAA via postal service for verification of who I am. Easier for me to subscribe to a new provider at comparable rate. USAA already has my name, SS#, DOB, address... Sending drivers "for identity protection". I am receiving quotes now from other providers as I type.

GET AN ATTORNEY! I have USAA. I was rear ended - just a somewhat minor accident so I figured it wasn’t worth getting an attorney. I quickly figured out they don’t care about you AT ALL. First! Filing a claim easy peasy but trying to get them to do anything at all afterwards was like pulling teeth on a live bear. They don’t return phone calls, they don’t return emails, they have some sort of contact email system like a message board that they don’t read nor return emails. It was literally easier to deal directly with the other driver's insurance. Everything was how can they get away with NOT paying or minimizing how much to pay me. I had full coverage, a lot of extras and everything they use to not pay or minimize how much was fine print that is not in your contract. Seriously I’m canceling my policy and going to the the insurance the guy that hit me has. But end of the day - all I learned was no matter how small - get an attorney.

Our vehicle was labeled "totaled" due to natural causes. With the exception of a minor hiccup by our USAA adjuster, that held up the process one week, we were satisfied with USAA auto claims service provided. CCC One provided us a Fair Market Value that was fair and Co-Part provided quick service on documentation requirements with reliable texts keeping us up-to-date. Why the Four-Stars? USAA "Your Claim" page on our on-line account was not kept as current as we had hoped...Would much rather use the on-line informational service than spend time talking to a Representative, who too USAA's credit, did return calls almost immediately which was nice.....Happy to be a USAA Member.

I’ve been a member of USAA for almost 10 years. The customer services and support were amazing. However, in the last year the quality of customer care has diminished dramatically. In 2022 I filed a claim for food loss from power outage, no problem. I filed a claim for theft from my property, no problem. When I moved and had to get renters insurance through them, I was denied due to the claims. I had to go elsewhere for it.
On my move I experienced a blowout on my truck which was fully loaded with household goods pulling a trailer and had 3 car seats in the backseat with 3 sleeping little ones, this happened at 12:30am, I called roadside assistance, it took almost 2 hours to get a rude young man that didn’t even have the proper tools and wanted me to unload my children on the side of the road and unpack the stuff as well so he could use MY tools, I told him if he didn’t have the tools he needed to leave. He either took my hubcap or threw it in the ditch, I called roadside assistance again, told them what happened.
They said they’d try and find someone else, I got a call back from them an hour later wanting to know if they could wait till morning so they could find someone, I explained to them I’d already been sitting on the side of the road for 4 hours with 4 sleeping children in the car. Asked to speak to supervisor, supervisor said she’d get someone out as soon as she could. An hour later an old man showed up and again didn’t have the proper tools, but at least he had the tools and knowledge to get the tire changed and told me where I could find replacement tires.
In May 2023, my wife wrecked her minivan, I had to continually call to find out the status of the claim. I was always told they’d check and call me back, they never did. After I finally had enough I asked for supervisor, who was out of town. I finally got hold of a woman that found the van, emailed me the paperwork work releasing the van for salvage as they claimed it was a write off. This finally happened in July, yes it took me 3 months to get a claim settled and I had to do all the leg work.
I was recently scammed by a woman I thought I could trust and ended up $2700 in the hole, my social security check didn’t cover the loss, and I finally settled it on the first. But it left me short for bills, my AMEX card which is a secured credit card, has a past due amount of $15, in the time I’ve been with USAA I’ve never missed a payment. I got 2 letters in the mail demanding payment. I called and was told they were trying to collect a debt, I told the woman to close the account take the $15 and put the rest in my checking account, to which I was told I couldn’t close the account until it was paid up. When I do pay the $15 I will close both cards, I will open an account elsewhere and move my direct deposit to new bank. And then will cut my ties with USAA for good.

Their phone tree is not user friendly. I was trying transfer money. My first call was fine but it took 20 minutes to get thru the tree. On following calls for a smaller transfer I had a member specialist who would not transfer the remaining money. She put a hold on it. I asked why the bulk (4 /5 th)’s was transferred with no problem. She became combative as I was demanding why the other money went through. I ask for her supervisor. She stated she didn’t have one and hung up. I have proceeded to transfer the money by doing under 5k transfers myself. I have been a member for 43 years. I have banking, insurance products, and annuities. I have a credit rating 800+, I would think I’m a preferred member. Now with their rating of an F and the $140M lawsuit maybe it’s time to leave this dinosaur. I’m a loyal person. What will my next call be like?…How long does it take to get through the phone tree to talk to someone?

Living in Florida, you would think that an insurance company that caters to veterans' needs and services to this country, that your rates would or should be cheaper right? NOT! I have an excellent driving record, no accidents, no citations, a car that is paid off and 7 years old, but when hurricanes hit this state and neither your property (house/car) is damaged, you still will pay premiums that are ungodly! Look for another insurance company, but stay away from USAA. They are rip offs.

I've been a USAA auto policy holder for decades. Decades. Recently my auto-pay stopped working. First, the notifications of the auto-pay issue were only sent to my husband despite the payments coming from account. The system should notify both of the drivers on the account, especially the one that has the car titles in their name. How male biased. Second, the policy was closed, but also allowed me to make a payment. How can you accept my money but tell me 12 days later that I don't have one? Third, they are now making us pay $1,000 more a year because we are a risk for non-payment. Do you know why our payments were late? Their auto-pay system has no way to tell you that your credit card number is out of date, even when you make a manual payment. So, now I am a "risk", but you can cancel my policy at anytime due to your system. Anytime. This has been a horrible experience.

When I called about the rental NO ONE WOULD PICK UP FOR several hours, accident was ruled not my fault, but because the other person would not accept fault, I had to pay for my own repairs. Tinaya, my claims person, told me the other person was avoiding them, and after some time I would get repaid. 2 months later, I get a random message stating the other person states it was not his fault, so he is off the hook to pay, remember we are both USAA members. I took photos, uploaded the receipt, spent hours calling, and all the other person had to do was say "nope not me" and just like that I had to cover my own repairs... USAA bad correspondence, I will be looking for a more fair and honest insurance company.

My name is Tyanna H. I am a USAA customer for a very long time. This lady does not deserve her job. She was in the customer service number 210-531-8722. Thursday, Aug 3rd 2023 at 11 or 12:00 Eastern Standard Time, I was on the line with a rep in the billing department About my final bill for my auto insurance policy from 2021. She sounded like she was frustrated with me like she didn't feel like answering my questions about my balance for my auto policy. She kept asking me, "What do you want me to tell you? I'm not understanding your question. What do you want to know," and then saying, "There's a lot I see on the screen," being very sarcastic when I asked her what she sees.
Then she try to redirect me to the website and told me that I can look at my bill and it will show me a breakdown on there when it's her job to tell me and all I wanted was to know what the 395 entailed because of rep before her told me that there was 140.00 expiration fee included according to the rep I spoke to before her who transferred me to her. After I finally got a little information from her it was like resistant I felt like she was on the defense with me because she was very dismissive and I believe it's because they were getting ready to close because I asked her a question she put me on hold and then transferred me and the offices were closed!
I didn't get anyone. I was very upset. I don't know what her name was but I spoke to her right before the offices closed for the night. I would like to complain about her. She doesn't deserve her job. If she's going to be transferring someone knowing it won't go nowhere that's call avoidance. I should know I've worked in the call center for over 20 years. Her mannerism was very rude and unprofessional. If a customer asks you what do you see you don't respond back with, "I see a lot of stuff." She completely avoided doing her job all because they were closing. She unnecessarily transferred me. That's considered call avoidance at the call center I work for and customer negligence.

USAA is the worst insurance company and I would recommend no one giving them their business. They are great at providing quick and easy insurance online and have a relatively good banking system. However, when my wife and I had an auto claim, it was the worst experience I have ever had with a company. USAA got a quick valuation report and made a low ball settlement offer. Over the next multiple months, USAA failed to respond to items, lied about what was within the valuation report (for example, the report said there was a reduction of cost because of condition, but their adjuster said it was because they were backing out dealership overhead and profit, which is not supported by the policy), failed to respond in writing to additional comparisons, and failed to respond to new information. It was an awful experience and because of it, I changed all of my insurances to other companies and am in the process of switching banks.
USAA did not do the right thing and stood by their terrible customer service. The claims experience was 0/100 and was incredibly frustrating. USAA claims to live up its values and my personal experience was that they did not. They are a great company if you never have a claim, but their claims experience was horrendous. I strongly recommend that no one use this company for their insurance business.

We are on the Safe Pilot program, which is supposed to provide a discount with careful driving. Upon the last renewal, we were supposed to get a 23% discount, but the rates were raised due to what the rep said was an increase for all members. My next renewal is at the end of this month. Earned a 19% discount, but our rate went from $123 to $158! I contacted another company and was prepared to switch but the USAA rep said I would have to pay for July. We highly regret doing business with this company and are switching as soon as possible. Company has a lot of nerve saying it will give veterans a fair share.

Very bad.... probably my worst insurance experience ever. You can never really know an insurance company until you need to file a claim. For years we have paid our premiums on time every time for our home and auto insurance. A woman side swiped my husband in our van, totalling it, and we had to file a claim to represent us in this accident. At first, during the initial call re: the claim, USAA was responsive and assisted in acquiring a rental car (I work as a nurse and have to drive freq for work) when the other driver's insurance agency was difficult to reach. When you call after that initial notification, no one is answering the phone and you get a recording saying that someone will call you back within 24 hours. With my rental car due back today, and still no resolution to a replacement vehicle they are not returning our call from yesterday nor answering calls today.
I understand insurance policies and the verbage they use and I recognize that I will not receive what my car was actually worth; but they have deducted so much from my car, which was in excellent condition with excellent tires, no wrecks, no damage, everything in pristine working order, cleaner and more maintained than any other replacements that I have looked at, (and it's been many) but (does have high mileage which they deducted $5000 for, ok, I get that) but they've deducted another $2500 for which the rep has not been able to tell us what for.
Instead he said "no that's not a deduction, that's a credit to the value of your vehicle" and when it was pointed out to be a deduction on the paperwork that we were sent, he changed it to "that's because the dealership has to make it ready" which 1) my vehicle is totaled and 2) if they're discussing a new vehicle, the dealership factors that in themselves so they shouldn't be deducting that from our payout. We asked for the deductions to be explained, which in the initial conversation we were kindly assured that they would do, and we can not get them to return our calls now.
To summarize. The payout is ridiculously low with no one willing and/or having the knowledge to explain the details of the pay off. The reps are not knowledgeable about the adjuster decisions and yet there is not a way to speak to the group making that decision without going through the rep which won't return your call. The customer service of the claims department is a joke, and just when you need them, they aren't available. Their voice mails assure you that they will return your call within 24 hours, even the managers VM claim that, which is an out and out lie. Initially we were told to supply receipts for the 2 week old run flat tires and brakes that we had just purchased which we did and they claim they never received then claimed it was already in the payoff amount. Avoid them, this insurance company is very shady....

This is the most incompetent insurance company I’ve ever dealt with. My car was hit by one of their members and is still not fixed nearly 3 months later. Their excuse is that they don’t have their member's statement. If they’re handling getting their member's statement like they did mine then I’m not surprised. They made ZERO effort to get my statement, didn’t reach out once. The only reason they have my statement is because I called over and over and over leaving multiple messages, that were never responded to. I finally got through to a person after many tries and gave them my statement even though they weren’t the person that was in charge of this claim. I would caution anyone against using USAA for their insurance seeing as how they clearly have no intention of paying out for a claim.

I was in an accident that I was not at fault and my car was determined a total loss. USAA uses CCC One, which is just a software program, to determine the value of my vehicle. Someone, no one will tell me who, input incorrect information into the system so the amount that the computer has come up with for a value of my vehicle is about 6k too low. I have called and called and messaged and called the adjuster to let them know what they have wrong about my vehicle but no one will return any calls or return any messages on the portal.
I have been with USAA for 21 years and they have really gone down the drain. I have asked to talk to a manager several times and I have explained that they do not have accurate information about my vehicle in CCC One so it is causing my car value to be way too low. They don't do anything. It is putting me in a huge financial hardship because I need the money that they owe me for my total loss. Now, I don't have the money or the car and no one cares enough to pick up the phone and talk to me about it. My accident was almost a month ago. They used to be the best. That is no longer the case.

That is Bunk! I was setting up a quote for my car insurance and talked to four different customer service reps. Three of them were nice, I explained I had raised my nephew since he was 15 and he lived with me and I am co-owner of his car. Three of them tried to verify him, and had problems with the system and the third one said I would have to talk to the banking department.
When I was handed off they knew nothing about how to do it! She handed me back to customer service and again went thru all the info they needed and then she asked me if I had a guardian paper. I told her he was 24 years old (she knew at the start) And I no longer needed one, I had the power of attorney because he is a special needs person and he is 24. His car is in my and his name and I provide more than 75% of his expenses. She kept insisting he did not qualify. I told her fine I am unhappy and will answer the survey when she hangs up. She never hung up and put me on hold for over an hour. I finally gave up! Somebody is either pulling my chain or they don't know what they are doing! My car was totaled in a tornado on Feb 26, 2023. USAA wrote checks to the lienholder and to me for the remainder. I instructed them to deposit it into my account via ACH. They simply dropped the check in the mail without notifying us that there was a problem with the ACH. (The problem was that they put my husband's name on the check, since he is the veteran, and tried to deposit it into my account, which only has my name on it, and is the account where they deduct the payments every month.) They never asked me for the account number because they already had it, but they took it upon themselves to put my husband's name on the ACH.
The check took two weeks to get to me, meanwhile they only authorize a rental car for 7 days. So they left me with no car because they did not ACH the payment nor did they even send the check with a tracking number! Just put a stamp on it and good luck getting it. The lienholder was not so lucky. Today is March 23rd and they still haven't received their payoff check, and are telling me that they will deduct another car payment from my account if they don't get it.
I called USAA numerous times about this, and sometimes get customer agents who don't know what they're doing or who are rude. It turns out that they sent the check to the wrong address. This Monday I told them to void that check and write a new one, and I gave them the correct address to send it to. Today is Thursday and I had to call 3 times to talk to someone who, after a long wait on hold, finally figured out that they never voided the check or issued a new one. One last complaint - Every time I call they ask a million unnecessary questions to verify your identity and then send a code to your phone. It seems like their goal is to frustrate their customers - Seriously. I'm switching auto insurance companies as soon as this is resolved. Don't use USAA.

To say that it was a frustrating nightmare rectifying this error is an understatement. To add to my frustration there is no one available to speak with at USAA during the weekend. I will absolutely commend the claims adjuster that resolved the situation was is knowledgeable and patient.
My frustration is compounded in that I am receiving statements pertaining to my auto insurance bill being due when I have confirmation that it was paid in full with my VISA card account. I keep getting email and iPhone message that the bill is due. It being the weekend there is no one at USAA to resolve this issue. It would have been wonderful if USAA could have sent a claims adjuster to my home instead of requesting me to take photos via an app that I do not understand how to complete. I needed to schedule an appointment at a USAA approved body shop to complete the appraisal. At age 78 this is not convenient for me, but I must comply. I simply wish the USAA would have one individual to keep you advised regarding the status of your claim.
