I am in contact with the BBB and an attorney for double charges that should not have occurred. I had to change my billing address four separate times and even then, their autopay option, which was forced upon me because apparently there is no choice in the matter, did not go through and I was charged a late fee every other week. Now that I cancelled my insurance, I am being charged another exorbitant late fee, supposedly for previous "late" fee occurrences. I made manual payments for every single one of these charges. Every time I attempted to contact their call center, I was hung up on, excused away, and then ultimately told that they had no supervisors to assist them and that they would attempt to contact me in a few days. I would only recommend this company to people I don't like.

By far the worst company ever to have disability with. My case worker was giving inaccurate information. They took forever to pay me. I will be checking to see if I could change to Aflac beginning of next year. Being on maternity leave and dealing with this ** company was not fun at all. Thank goodness I have a wonderful support system.

The international savings plan from MetLife is one of the worst plans on earth with Highest fund management charges and ridiculous conditions. You will have to pay a minimum of 4-6% annually on all the charges to MetLife and your chances of earning starts only if you gain more than 7% every year. Now on top of this please note that if you plan to exit before the full term they will take away a minimum of 50% of your hard earned investment and call it as surrender charges. By far this is the worst policy I have ever seen and please do note that while selling the plan they won't reveal you any costs or conditions. Better Read the T&C's correctly if you don't want to be trapped.

They're definitely NOT Aflac. I purchased MetLife Critical Illness coverage via my employer. I had to be approved for coverage. I was informed that it was MetLife not my employer who did the approval. I thought ok, good. They never asked for my medical history. I had double mastectomy the prior year and still under doctors care.
Falling further behind in my bills, I decided to file a claim July 2018. I faxed in original pathology reports as requested. It is now Sept and no decision. I did call mid Aug. The rep said they ordered more medical records for review pre existing. I commented MetLife approved me. She said my company approved me. My employer does not pay the claims. They're not underwriters. She stated they weren't underwriters. Any insurance company has underwriting department. I worked insurance claims for 10 years. Cancer center sent records Aug 27th. It is now 9/5/18, still waiting. I was approved for them to receive premium. I asked before filing the claim was there any other paperwork/questionnaire to complete. The response was no.

The critical care insurance was sold based upon coverage like “heart by-pass” where critical care would have to take place. I was told that the coverage would be provided for other “like conditions”. I had open heart surgery to replace a heart valve and when I processed the claim, it was denied. They had no issues with cashing my checks for the premiums but refused to take care of me when it counted and was needed.

MetLife is a company that does not truly value customers as they claim to. I was with MetLife for 10 years and am truly appalled at the treatment I received. After purchasing a new car I was told that my insurance was all set and I was covered with the new vehicle. Despite being told that information, someone canceled my insurance leaving me without any coverage. I was not notified about my lack of insurance until the RMV contacted me to let me know. Once I called MetLife to sort the issue the rep that helped me would not answer my call and would instantly forward me to a different local agency. Despite my pleas and explanations MetLife said there was nothing they could and left my insurance canceled forcing me to switch to another company. I am not a problematic driver and have never even gotten a speeding ticket. If you want to save yourself from a company that does not value you then do not open a policy with MetLife.

I am set up for auto-pay. I have always paid manually until this past week while having eye surgery. Auto pay set on the 29th. They did not deduct payment & charged me on 8-1 a $25 late fee. They refuse to credit when I had to pay manually. Service rep could not explain why they didn’t deduct with auto pay. But refused to credit late charge. Worst customer service ever. Rude and would not let me talk to a supervisor. Basically they stole $25 from me. I have never missed a payment & always pay early. This time I had to rely on autopay, they messed up and I got shafted! I would like help in resolution.

While preparing to retire and get all my documents in order, I called Brighthouse. The first day I called 6 different numbers because the system kept telling me I was in the wrong place. Finally got through only to be told I needed to be transferred again. On hold for 48 minutes. Received the paperwork necessary and then needed a number on the form in order to complete it. Called again - 52 minutes this time - hung up - called again and transferred three times. Still don't have the information and it is a simple question in order to complete their paperwork. Currently on hold again for the last 63 minutes and still no one answers. Three days to get something answered. Do they have only one real, live person available?

I cancelled my policy with MetLife on 6/11/2018. I understood that they would have to take the June payment from my paycheck because I was doing payroll deduct. They took partial payment on 6/29/2018 and sent a letter stating that they would take the rest on 7/13/2018. I check my pay stub on 7/12/2018 to find out that they took 725.00 from my paycheck. So I called and spoke with someone in payroll deduct and was informed that they should have cancelled the payroll deduct but they didn't so it was their mistake, but they won't be able to get my money back to me until the end of July.
It was so quick for them to snatch it from my check but they are dragging their feet to give me my money back. I was even told that for me to contact my payroll at work to see if they can give me the money, what!!! It was not my job's fault. As soon as I cancelled the policy everything should have cancelled with it. What the hell!!! I do not recommend MetLife to anyone. If you receive things in the mail saying that they are a great insurance company that is all lies. Do not trust them.

I paid quarterly payments for long term care starting age 33. At 47 after I had moved to another city. MetLife did not record my new address in their system correctly while they accepted payments from my new online banking account. When a family member was going through cancer I was reminded I had missed some payments and contacted MetLife to catch up. I had not heard from them in over a year, but my checks were clearing. When I called I learned my policy had been cancelled and they were sending my cancellation notice to an old address.
As I fit in the window under my policy to do reapply I did, to catch up and pay what was due to get reinstated. However, MetLife used the same health conditions I had at 33, same height and weight, to decline me at age 47, saying they didn't know at 33 I had those the way I had enrolled at the time. In the same time frame as I had been cancelled MetLife ended their long term care benefit options, and were not accepting new clients. 14 years of quarterly payments down the drain. If only karma would remembers MetLife and their descendants when they least expect it for scamming people. Unless you plan to sit at one address all your life, one bank, one zip code, don't pay a penny for MetLife products or services.

I have been with MetLife tor over 30 years! As long as you have no claims all is good! Every time I submitted a claim they are always looking for ways to reject it! I recently filed a claim for sump pump failure, sewer seepage, & broken window in window well. Because the window well window was broke due to ground water they will not cover anything! I have sump pump failure insurance!
This is totally unacceptable in my opinion as all I wanted covered was the wall board replacement, carpet and vanity in bathroom and payment for having commercial co dry the basement out so we could salvage as much as possible! We removed the carpet and padding ourselves and we also cut off 13 inches of wallboard to avoid traveling up the wall and creating mold & mildew! We did everything we could to salvage as much as possible! We worked night and day for 3 days straight! They don’t really care about you just the money you pay for high premiums!!!

I was with MetLife for over 3 years and everything was ok till I switched to another insurance company in April 2018. I was supposed to get two checks back for a car and a home policy. The smallest check was for $34 dollars and I got it in no time. The second check was for $880 dollars, it has been over 2 months from early April 2018 to 06/20/2018 and I have not received it yet. I have called them in five different times, every time I called is a different story from the representatives.
This ** sucks, they are playing with my escrow money. I am very disappointed and very surprised that a company like MetLife will do some ** like this. I am so happy I left them, I went to another insurance company and I was able to saved $1000 per year for my home insurance and my auto policy cost me less as well for a better coverage. I will never do business again with liars and dishonest people that gave me a different story every time I called. I just hope they won't do the same ** when a customer has a claim to fix a $50K or $100K vehicle.

I am due two separate life insurance payouts from MetLife. They did pay the funeral home promptly. Once I notified them of my benefit they sent documentation to send back which I did. The first excuse was that they were confused by two payouts even though each account is separate numbers. They didn't call to clarify, I discovered by calling them. Next MetLife had that I and my deceased husband worked at the same location, this has never been the case. Again I discovered by calling them. Then one payment went to their TCA account instead of my bank as I selected. I then had to call the TCA # and a check is mailed to me (what we wanted to avoid).
The other payout they have now said there is confusion over the dates of policy payment so I had to get my employer involved. It is still not resolved after 30 days. Other insurer policies did not have the TCA issue and the payments arrived as described. For this reason I would not ever have MetLife life insurance as it puts the payee in an unfair and delayed position.

On April 5, 2018, I was involved in a traffic accident in which my vehicle was rear-ended by another while I was stopped at a traffic light, resulting in my colliding into the car in front of me. Of the three vehicles involved, two of the drivers (myself and the woman in front of me) were covered by Commerce Insurance. The vehicle which caused the accident was insured by Metropolitan (the son of the car owner was driving). My insurance company handled the claim promptly, with respect to helpful assistance in the aftermath, collecting data/statements, arriving at a damage estimate (my car was a total loss), and paying out the claim. The day after the accident, I phoned Metropolitan in response to a request for contact and made a full statement. I was provided a claim number and the name of an adjuster.
The only thing I needed to rely on Metropolitan for was covering my rental while I searched for a new vehicle (once my car was declared a total loss). My initial adjuster quoted me the daily rental charge they cover should liability be accepted, and I rented a small vehicle within those parameters. While the rental was being used, I was informed Metropolitan was ‘investigating the claim’ (keep in mind, my vehicle and the one in front of me were at a dead stop); I was informed on various occasions of numerous issues with the investigation which prevented them from accepting liability and covering my rental at that time, was asked to be patient and if it was not settled by the time I returned the rental to pay out of pocket and submit a receipt for reimbursement.
Ultimately, this was what I had to do, and on 4/24 emailed the adjuster a receipt for $464.75. Since this time, I was informed twice that they were still investigating, and subsequently that there was a new investigation, this time to determine whether the driver of their covered vehicle was registered. At that point I was told that while clearly the other driver (the one who hit me), was liable, this new investigation still needed to be completed prior to any reimbursement being made. I was then referred to a new adjuster (who for some reason I am unclear on took over the case), who I contacted and spoke to on two occasions.
On both she informed me that the investigation was ongoing, and when we last spoke (2+ weeks back), I was told that there was a claim meeting that Friday and she would get back to me with an update. I received no update, nor have I been reimbursed, so I called Metropolitan again today. My new adjuster was unavailable, so I initially spoke with another claims rep who indicated that the claim notes indicated they were still awaiting a statement. When I asked to speak with a supervisor I was informed they were gone for the day. I was transferred to a member of my adjuster’s ‘team’ who informed me that there were ‘serious coverage issues’ and that they could not commit to any form of reimbursement at this time. As a result, I would have to wait as they are ‘actively working on it’.
It has been roughly two months now since the accident. I have been in a new vehicle since 4/24, and at this point am still waiting for resolution to two separate investigations of an accident for which liability could not be more evident (the police officer at the scene took about 30 seconds to declare the driver who struck my car at fault, and he admitted to the fact). I have had to deal with two separate adjusters, through phone and email correspondence, paid more than $450 out of pocket, have met every requirement and request of Metropolitan personnel, and continue to have my reimbursement delayed.
At this point, I cannot help but feel that resolution is being delayed unnecessarily, and I am simply being given the run-around from a large company who feels they have all the power in this matter. I would hate to think how long this issue would have been delayed and how many adjusters and investigations would have been required if the driver of the insured vehicle were not so clearly at fault. Needless to say, Metropolitan will not be on my list of potential insurers when my own policy requires renewal, and I finally determined my experiences should be shared in order that others can take them into consideration in determining who they will choose to meet their own insurance needs. I will post a follow-up to this review if and when my claim is resolved.

As of April first I cancelled my homeowners and auto insurance with MetLife. I have yet to receive a final bill and statement of account. Instead of communicating with about the matter they have sent my unexplained bill to a collection agency that are now threatening me. MetLife has consistently raised my premiums regardless of the fact that I have never made a claim with them. This was over the course of five years. This must be standard procedure when they lose a valuable customer and guaranteeing that they will never bother with them again.

I have had a wonderful time using MetLife as my provider. I don't think they go above and beyond in any way, but I will always appreciate how very easy it is to do business with them. It has all been a very easy process. It's a whole life policy, not term, so once I got it set up, locked in at a good rate while I was in my 20s, it runs smoothly with automatic payments each month, and each year I get a statement of its earnings. I don't even have to think about it, which is nice. But it might be nice to be able to have some control. For example, if I could annually or biannually be made aware of investment opportunities that could be used to increase the size of the policy at a faster rate.

Trying to get another insurance would be extremely expensive for my age group. But I would expect a little more communication with MetLife. I have had a term life insurance policy with MetLife since 1978. The monthly premium was $25 for 37 years. A week ago I received a letter saying I needed to pay $360 to keep my insurance. I called and found out they had used up the cash value of my policy to pay for increasing administrative costs and that I should have increased my premium.
I asked why I was never notified over years to increase the premium and they said they send a yearly printout and I said that never said I should increase payment. I said the print out of a record of my years payments and "the cash value is... if you stop making payment, the policy will be worth..." They said could have figured it out if I did the math and if I couldn't they have people who could help. I said I certainly COULD do the math IF I had known for 37 years that I NEEDED TO! VERY disreputable company!! I am now exploring new company since I checked online and hard to find ANY positive reviews of the company!!

MetLife was recommended to us by a friend over thirty years ago. The agent Asked what we wanted so she could meet our need. We explained we were younger at the time and wanted something with a large payout if one of us were to die but would like something that would also grow through the years that we could cash in when we were old if we needed more money to subsidize our income. She was patient and went over several policies and we chose one. We are very happy with our policies with MetLife. Our policies have increased in cash in value greatly through the years. We have reached our golden years but have no need in cashing the policies in at this time. We now receive quartet dividends although we still pay a yearly fee of around five hundred dollar.

They go above and beyond to help you and meet your needs when they can. I like that everything is easy when it comes to this company. Any issues I have or customer service they help me out right away and have no problems helping me when I need it. They go the extra way to take care of me every time. I also like that I can change my policy when I need to and I get updates on my policy all the time. This company has more compassionate than a lot of other companies out there.

My parents had them for policies so I chose them as well. They never had any problems or issues with them and I have never had any problems with them or any errors in billing. They have never taken any unauthorized payments out or anything. They have good customer service. The policy is clear and easy to understand. I feel certain they would cover my family if something happened to me without any issues or problems or hassles. They are easy to deal with and they offer flexible and reasonable payment options. They also have a nice clear website that is easy to navigate. They are good the way they are but the customer service call times could be a bit shorter and a one-call resolution model would be ideal. Hate getting bounced around to different people when I call there for a question or a concern.

I currently have auto insurance with MetLife which is who my agent recommended to go with. We have been with MetLife for around 5 years and have never had a claim. In fact we haven’t had a claim in over 20 years with any insurance company. My wife recently had a small accident where she backed into another car and pushed in the fog light of the other vehicle. Upon talking with the MetLife auto insurance adjuster I explained that before this claim was paid I would like to be notified because I would most likely pay this claim out of pocket. I was told by MetLife that it would be fine to do this.
The adjuster told me she would call me back once they knew what the total cost would be and this could take a few weeks. About a month passed and I realized I had not heard back from MetLife. I decided to call and find out why I had not received a return call and was told the claim was paid. This was very frustrating to me because I was told that nothing could be done and the claim was already settled. To make matters worse my deductible is $500 and the claim was for $503. So as you can imagine my frustration with this company is huge. This is not a company I would recommend and will be going elsewhere with my insurance needs.

The policy was issue in 1960 when I was a baby. In 2000 all the policies were turn into stocks. I ask them about it and they told me I didn't have any and they could have been cash out by a 3rd part. I told them there was no 3rd party and wanted to know where they are. They told me they could give that info. They just give you excuses hoping you will be happy getting what they are offering you. When I ask them for a copy of my policy they told me they stop giving them in 1984 then they wanted to charge me $25 to get it. Well they finally gave it to me. I am the only one now on the policy before it was my dad and me. I would never recommend this company. They are crooks.

I told them I got it in minutes and it was done. They don't have a social security number associated with the account I need to talk to normal customer service and have it added. Um, the site requested the social security number when I created it. Being Friday I had to wait till Monday to call "normal support."
"Normal" support had no clue what web tech was talking about so contacted them and then forwarded me to them. I was then told: They needed to open a trouble ticket and it would take 3 days to go through. I could call back then and they would fix it. Um, I'm talking to web support, who the he.. do you need to open a ticket to? So I wrote the Email "contact us" address to complain. 3 almost 4 days into a "it takes 1-2 business days to respond" told me I need to talk to web tech. My response was, "Are you freaking kidding me. They are the ones that keep blowing me off.
3 days into a 1-2 business days to respond they asked for about 9 things. All which were readily available on my account using the information already provided so I responded with just the policy number and said if they can't get the rest using it I'm still talking to the wrong people. In the end, I paid $14,800 in 31 months for insurance while I was busy sending my boys off to the Marines, and focused on getting my business off the ground. Did they care or offer me any money back? Sure... 2 months payment. Their legal argument... "we sent you a bill way back in December, once a year, with a little tiny number in the lower right hand corner that showed the new increase". First, let me say that MetLife reps are very friendly when selling you a policy but become very cold when you attempt to receive payments on the policy. Indeed the job of a MetLife rep at payment time is to deny you payment. I purchased AARP MetLife LTC some 20 years ago on the advice of a friend who worked for the company. I read the contract when it came and thought I understood it. I would advise anyone considering any company's LTC to allow someone in the health field or a lawyer to read any insurance contract. You have so many days to cancel your contract if you do not think the contract is fair. Had I done this I would not have lost 20 years of payments to this company.
When I sought payment for home care I was denied. I had a health care company president read the contract and she concluded it was unbelievably unfair and written so as to deny payment. You must almost be in a coma before payment is granted. All other LTC contracts (according to my health care person who reviewed the MetLife contract) consider bathing and transferring two separate items. Some even include cooking meals and cleaning as an ADL. MetLife does not. I needed assistance for dressing, meal cooking, shopping, transport to MD appts. and other issues and was told I did not. This was based on their own appraisal of me by their own RN.
A METLIFE physician reads the request and decides - after never seeing you - that the best doctors in Boston are incorrect. The MetLife rep tells me that the MD's reports do not indicate I need help with the ADL's (Activities of Daily Living). The MetLife rep does not tell me that the Md must clearly state in the words of the contract what help you need - that a medical reports from many doctors saying that I had serious medical issues was not enough. After almost of year of appeals and denials, I canceled the policy. I only wish I had never purchased it.

I have been trying to get a payout for my mom's long term care insurance. I have called many times and every time I call I never get the same answer. The Agent assigned to me seems to be incompetent. She has given me deadlines several times and has never met them on her end. One time was four weeks late. She was honest and told me she forgot about the case. Since then I have been told three times that I would have a check. All three times there is some problem that I am not notified of. The latest is information that MetLife has been sent twice.
While on the phone I looked up the email and read the info the rep said we were missing. It is now July 3rd, I was told by my assigned agent I would have a check by early to mid April. I am three months past what I was told. I am extremely frustrated and upset I have to go through this when MetLife has all the information they need. I keep getting a new excuse every time I call the company. It takes a lot to get me angry but MetLife has done it.
MetLife employees do not care about the people they service, bottom line. They are there to collect a salary, and get in and out of the workday with as little effort as possible. Of all the people I have talked none of them give the impression of caring about people. Insurance is a business that deals with the care and service of people, and no on cares about people. Especially the agent that is assigned the case. How can you forget about a case? How can you tell a customer they will have something three times and not come through three times? How can you ask for information, be sent the information and not realize you have the information? How can need more information for case, and NOT contact the people for the information when they have called multiple times? I have even asked what can I do to speed this process up and not a word was said about not having information.
It is baffling to me is how a company can expect the customers to pay the premium on time in full. But not even come close to getting claims processed in an efficient quick manner, or honor the deadlines the company sets. I am at a loss of how MetLife can operate like this. It takes a lot for me to lose my cool but I have done it with the reps on the phone. The one I talked to I used poor language and raised my voice with. She did not deserve that. She was not listening, or willing to check and was disrespectful but she did not deserve to be treated how I treated her.
I hope something can be done soon. We started the process in January, it is now July and I have no promise of resolution. My expectations for MetLife or any company are simple: Honesty, Integrity, Great communication, To be treated with respect, Efficient process of business. MetLife has not met any of these simple expectations. I hope it changes in the future.

So I ask for someone that speaks clearer and I am transferred to another part of the world and it is not much better. I try to explain what I need and it takes about 45 minutes as I had to spell my name 13 times and my address is taking 15 times to get right. So I ask a manager to get me to America... after all I live here and that is where MetLife is... The call transfer took another 35 minutes and the person I got could not help with life insurance questions. They put me on hold 17 minutes and the person that came on could not help with all my policies... only the whole life. So I get transferred and I get to the original person from two hours ago... In a far away land where they do not speak english. I have to give him all my info again to even be sent to a place to help me.
20 minutes later the interrogation has ended and I am switched. I come back to America... I'm so happy... But the person does not deal with life insurance. I have seen this play before. 15 minutes later a person who is a woman comes on... she is rude as all hell. She says I am speaking too fast. She then says be calm... She tells me she is trying to help me. She is so slow that 30 minutes have gone by and she is looking at each policy like the fbi. I try to help her and she keeps saying please be quiet sir. I ask for a full value loan on my policy and finally she is able to put it through.
So I then say, "Ok go to the next policy" and she tells me she can only put through one loan over the phone and then everything has to be in writing with forms she will send me... I explain that I have 16 policies for 20 years and I need some money and I can not wait for all the paperwork to go through. She says she can only do one loan and in fact there is a cap of only 20,000 dollars anyway. So I said, "I have 225k there why only 20k at a time?" And she says those are the rules. So I give metlife my money and when I need it back then the rules prohibit me from doing anything with my money for at least 15 days... if not more. This is not what I signed up for.
I have many policies and I may need a loan on any one or more of them... I can not keep going through this hell. So I am now writing the state insurance dept as I have recorded the last 4 phone transfers and the people trying to understand me. By the way I graduated with a masters and I speak perfectly as I was born here in America. I was not able to buy the things I needed for summer and this was not supposed to be the case... it is my money after all. It is 16 days and still no money has arrived... I lost the deposit on the car I tried to buy and my son lost the house he was buying as he did not have the down payment in time. I have closed all my annuities and looking to close all the insurance policies and go elsewhere. They do not care about customers at all.

We have had a relationship with MetLife for more than 20 years that is about to end. I have my auto policy (five cars and four drivers), my homeowners policy and two life insurance policies (for my wife and myself) with MetLife. I would guess over the course of these 20+ years in our relationship I have sent MetLife $80,000 - $100,000 in premiums. Last year we added a couple newer cars to our Auto Policy and removed an older one. At that time my premium went up (as I expected) about $1000 per year. In January it went up another $150 per year.
Earlier this month I got an email notification that I received a new auto insurance document. I took a look at it and saw my auto insurance was going up about another $1000 per year to $4844 per year. I have been driving since I turned 16 with no accidents and no tickets. My wife, additionally has an impeccable driving record. My oldest daughter (now 24) has never had a ticket and had one fender bender more than 3 years ago. My youngest daughter (now 21) has never had a ticket and was sitting at a stop light about a year ago when an older gentleman in a Tesla rear-ended her at a high rate of speed, totaling my car. He thought the car would stop for him; go figure. She has never been in an at-fault accident either.
So of course I called MetLife to see what's up with all the hikes. I called and spoke to Mark earlier this week and he told me the rate increase was due to my oldest daughter's fender bender more than three years ago. I expressed how I found that very odd and unreasonable. He said, and I'll use the exact term, "That's just a MetLife rule." I jokingly said, "It's a MetLife rule to screw life long customers for an accident that occurred 3+ years ago?" I found that hard to believe. But he said the only thing he could suggest would be for me to take a Defensive Driver course, get the certificate, send it to MetLife so I could get a 5% discount. Again, I laughed. After 40+ years of accident free driving I have neither the time nor the need for such a course.
Interestingly, a day or two later I got a real letter from MetLife saying you are indeed jacking my rates and I have the opportunity to protest this by going through some process with the State of Maryland. The letter also states, and I quote, "The actual reason or reasons for the increase are: ... Incidents and/or conditions that impacted the premium include: Christine **'s activity: NOT at fault accident on 05/03/2016 (Claimant Vehicle Rear-ended Insured) & Driver licensed less than 5 years with activity. Seriously??? She was rear-ended by a filthy rich nitwit sitting at a stoplight (luckily uninjured) but hit hard enough to total my good car that I had to fight USAA insurance for months to get settled and because of that, my rates are skyrocketing? Great rule MetLife!
So, I called MetLife again last night angered that Mark gave me a different reason than the letter did. The young lady I spoke to last night had an odd name I can't recall but after having me on hold for a bit said, the reason my rates are going up is because everyone in the area is having a rate increase (you know actuarial stuff). So, Met Life has provided me three different reasons as to why my rates are skyrocketing since mid last year; none of them seem valid.
My answer to that is good riddance MetLife. I am awaiting a call from a MetLife supervisor to verbally voice the points above. If there is a customer retention person or department or someone from MetLife that deals with Better Business Bureau complaints, I'd love for you to send this info to them and escalate this to MetLife management because the rate increases are unfounded and ludicrous in my opinion. If any of the reasons I have been given are MetLife rules, I speculate you won't be a very successful business much longer.
I wanted to get my thoughts down in writing for a Better Business Bureau report I intend to file when I have a few minutes. I'd love to hear from someone with stature and tenure at MetLife to explain this increase to me rationally. There are dozens of insurance companies that would appreciate my business at a reasonable price. I have a couple quotes already that prove MetLife is attempting to gouge me; a 20+ year customer that always pays on time and is essentially claim free. As I told the young lady last night, I'll be happy to take MetLife's call anytime to discuss in the hopes of hearing some ethical reasonable reply. She said I would hear back within 24 hours. Looking forward to the call.

I purchased a whole life policy for both my husband and myself about 8 years ago. I have continued to pay on these policies every month through an automatic deduction set up at the time of purchase. I just happened to notice on a form that was sent that the terms of the policy were changed so that at the age of 90 my policy would no longer have a payout! If I didn't inadvertently become aware of the change in my policy my policies would be worthless if we lived past 90.
I contacted my agent and he contacted Metlife first regarding my policy. Metlife claimed I was late on payments so they changed the terms of the policy. My agent informed them I had an automatic deduction - they tried to do it with my husband's policy as well. They are impossible to reach and their customer service is nonexistent. They lack integrity in their operations. I truly regret doing business with them and fear my family will some day have trouble collecting on our policies. I do not recommend using this company.

They failed to put in a lower control arm and bail joint ordered in writing to pick up the car 1800 miles away while ordered by her Doctor to stay on bed rest or they would pull the rental. She picked up the car against my wishes. Car was all over the road, lost control twice on this trip and ended up on my orders to stop and take to shop. Found ball joint and lower control arm never replaced but claimed alignment was good, not possible. Was claims manager car was unsafe.
MetLife takes no ownership of this as expected. It is their DRP shop- makes them look bad. Car now is total loss per them. As a widow I had no idea the lengths MetLife would go to. They find new reasons to stall paying beneficiary. They make me relive weekly how my husband died. He passed Toxicology reports. Doctors reports. And yet they want me to fill out a blank authorization so they can look into his entire medical history since birth! Questions like does he have aids? Autoimmune diseases. Alcohol abuse, psychiatric problems, drug abuse. HOW DARE THEY defamate my husband's character. He died in a tragic car accident. None of those questions have any relevance to my husband's death. None of their business!!!
He was a good husband and God fearing man. And METLIFE wants to take away his dignity, his privacy and his last gesture was to care for his wife if he ever died. My employer has a group insurance plan with MetLife, so I gave them a call to see if I could get my auto insurance reduced. After a lengthy conversation with the sales representative, asking him as many questions I could think of, we came to the conclusion I could save about $50 a month by switching from my current auto insurance provider. Having received the quote from them, I went forward and canceled my plan with my current provider. After I already canceled, a day later I received a call from my sales rep who claimed that someone made a mistake, and even with my group discount, my insurance would be close to 25% more expensive than the program I had. Thankfully, I was able to cancel and my previous provider was able to reinstate the same day.
However, that didn't keep MetLife from taking a piece of my paycheck two weeks later (after receiving confirmation that I canceled my policy within 24 hours of it being opened). Then when I called my sales rep, he wouldn't return any of my calls. Absolutely terrible service. I had to call someone else and it took them two weeks to send me money that they shouldn't have taken in the first place. Now, after all of this, I received a letter from the Department of Revenue indicating that they received notification that I canceled my insurance and was uninsured and that my license will be suspended in the coming weeks. I am certain that I am insured. I'm lead to believe by MetLife's terrible communication practices that they reported this -- although I can't really say for certain. However, I can say that I will never recommend MetLife to anyone.

My husband converted his MetLife term life policy to whole life last winter. We paid our initial bill. Then we waited. And waited. And waited some more. Never got the next quarterly bill. Instead we got a late notice. My husband called, irate. MetLife supposedly mailed us our bill. We just never got it. A fluke? Maybe the first time. Since last winter we have NEVER ONCE received an actual statement. What we have received are 3 late notices. Last week (Jan 5th, 2017) we were once again waiting for our quarterly bill. My husband called and was advised it was mailed in NOVEMBER! They promised they'd mail another bill immediately.
One week later, no bill. I called, and was told by the CS rep that it was mailed to our address (I confirmed that they do have our correct address) and blamed it on the USPS. I am city mail carrier for said organization, and know first hand that (1) the mail can be slow and (2) the mail can be lost, missorted etc. But to blame for never received bills on the USPS was too much. I lost it. I could not believe that such a well known company would play the blame game and engage in finger pointing. I told her how disgusted we were, and that if we don't receive our bill by this upcoming Tuesday (Monday being MLK Jr day) we would immediately cancel the policy. Never again MetLife. Avoid at all costs. It's just not worth it.

My wife and I got MetLife "Flexible Premium Universal Life" policies in 1986. The agent suggested these were great policies because the policy could increase in value over time. The sales pitch was extremely deceptive. After paying premiums for many years (approximately 29 years overall), at age 70, the premiums started to increase "because of age". I was told that it costs more to administrate a policy after age 70. Why? We received a letter that the plan was deficient and money was required to keep it in effect. It was determined that we had a cash value of less than $300. So, we paid the difference and increased the monthly premium to over a $100 more per month.
Now, we are deficient again and the monthly premium is to go up another $80/mo. The premiums are now more than my mortgage payment was. A MetLife customer service representative stated that premiums will continue to increase until age 95. The cash value will continue to be near zero, but the death benefit would be $70,000. If we pay less than the adjusted premium, the policy would be terminated as we have already received notices even though make the required monthly payments via auto payment.
It gets better. After a very extended conversation, the customer service rep stated there was another option. This did not come up years ago when we had a similar conversation. I could keep the policy in effect because "MetLife offers a reduced paid-up option less loans and withdrawals." I have no loans or withdrawals. I would have to file a form to accept a much reduced amount at death (less that if I had put this into a simple savings, no interest account). So, we chose to take this option as opposed to being bled dry financially. Not so fast. We received another letter explaining the opt out provisions. To date, the plan does not qualify. Here is an excerpt quoted from the letter:
"We reviewed your policy and determined that as of December 5, 2016, the policy is not eligible for the option as there is a $929.46 shortage in the cumulative planned premium. In order to be eligible for this option, you must send the $929.46 shortage by January 8, 2017 to the address below: MetLife. PO Box 371351. Pittsburgh PA 15250 7351. To maintain eligibility, you must pay the monthly planned premium of $929.46 beginning no later than February 8, 2017. You must continue to pay by the 8th of each month until you receive the notice that your policy will lapse.
"The Notification of Pending Lapse will confirm the policy eligibility. If these requirements are met, and no loans or partial cash withdrawals are taken, the policy will lapse and be placed on this option in approximately 7 months. The Endorsement will be mailed to you to keep with your policy. The death benefit is equal to the net cumulative premiums paid at the time the policy lapses. The policy will no longer have a cash value, cannot be surrendered, and will only be payable upon the insured's death. As of December 5, 2016, the total net premiums paid into the policy equal $26,098.92."
The cash value of this policy as of this date is $178. 73. I ask the MetLife rep to explain the terms in the letter. My question was, am I to pay $929.46 by Jan, 2017 and then another $929.46 per month for another "approximately" 7 months to have $26,098.92 paid to my estate on my death? The answer was affirmative. That's over another $7,500. I have paid premiums taken directly from our checking account for years. When advised I was deficient, we paid the balance and increased the premium. In the past several years, we have paid over $2,100 annually. This has turned into a money pit with no bottom.
On each of the calls to MetLife customer service, the reps have stated the agents misrepresented the policy and this policy is not longer sold. But it was a plan devised by MetLife and MetLife continues to bleed the customers knowing it was a bad product. Yet MetLife, for those in this plan, continues to reap the profits off the backs of the elderly. It is not until life insurance can no longer be gotten that they drop the hammer. The MetLife customer service reps did offer a bit of advice. I could contact a MetLife agent and see if I could get a lesser valued policy. And my response was that I should trust MetLife or one of their agents? When we opted for MetLife life insurance, we felt that this was an honorable company. It appears now that the company is trying to get customers with this policy to default because they can no longer afford it on a fixed retired income. Great for the bottom line, bad for the people that believed in them.

I'm being harassed and told I will due if cancer. The CEO Steve Kandarian and the entire executive office and fraud department know about me, yet they won't sit down and as I offered solutions to their problems. They plan on laundering money. Being a victim of this crime is the most cruel horrific experience you could imagine. No death is worse that the one I am experiencing. Every day of my life I live in total fear. I am being stalked. The reason I was harassed is because MetLife hoped I would collect on my ex-husband after they killed him. They told me I wasn't a true American if I said no. I was beaten, raped, had my car stolen, all my belongings taken and I was illegally detained by organized crime because I said no.
They thought they could treat me like a prostitute. I contacted the FBI. They haven't done anything. They told me to go to Manhattan. I did. MetLife turned me away stating that I had to make an appointment. I call often and they tell me Kandarian will call me if he wishes to, which he never does. After going to the FBI, they yelled at me and said I am a person who lacks credibility. They told me never to come back. Every day I am getting harassed. I'm told I will die of cancer or another means by 2016 and that the police and American public are too complacent to care. No human being should ever be treated this way. What happened to me makes Hitler look like an angel. If MetLife going to put a hit on someone put a hit on someone. Don't torture them. MetLife is committing crimes against humanity. They are a truly terrible company.
I know you won't publish this. I wish someone would please pay attention to what I am saying. They are drugging people and forcing them to sign these policies, then killing people in the most heinous disgusting ways. No one will ever know the nightmare I am going thru. I have a tattoo on my arm and even that doesn't help. It reads: Life Insurance Fraud. I wrote some laws to prevent this crime. The complacency in the govt and in Wall St and with other people is astounding. Does anyone realize they don't actually have to kill people? I wrote some laws and ideas about it. Well, people will earn the future they want which is a future of thousands and thousands of more people getting killed, because no one wants to do anything about it! It could even be your daughter.

I spent considerable time on the phone with "customer service" people, attempting to get my questions answered but was put on hold for long periods and shuffled from one to another. She mailed it to me and after filling in the required information, mailed it to MetLife.
Some time later I received a letter stating the policy had "matured" last June (with no notification to me at any time) and the money placed in unclaimed funds less than a week later. RUN, don't walk away from MetLife. My mother (died 1/5/15) and had some small amount of money in the three departments (divisions) listed in the subject line. It has been a nightmare dealing with them. Phone calls that seem to go nowhere. Forms which require gold medallion signatures, information I really couldn't comprehend from one of the divisions which was sending her a small amount each month, then decided to take it back (seems it wasn't really an annuity, but some sort of pension issue), but they only took back a few months. On the same day I finally received the Life Insurance check (approximately $3800), I received the papers (once again) to complete (once again) to receive the life insurance check. As per usual, after a phone call, I was told they were having difficulty.
Most recently I sent in the Computershare paperwork (gold medallion signature required), copy of trust, paperwork for a substitute W-9 form, a death certificate (I can't even remember who needed what and where it went but I sent lots of documents). Apparently, on the Computershare paperwork, I neglected to fill in a date about the trust. Back to square one. They won't send the papers back to me to fill in that date and they want $50 from me if I don't get another gold medallion signature (which is a pain in the neck) -- and I still have to fill in all the paperwork yet again (for $973). I'm thinking my mother's estate will just contribute that to the State of California.
I still haven't even begun to deal with whatever annuity is there. No single person at MetLife understands the different departments; however, they all very nicely offer to transfer you to another person who very nicely "reads the rules." In fact, they refer to "rules" quite a bit in their phone conversations. In handling my mother's estate, I dealt easily with selling her house, some largish Morgan Stanley and Charles Schwab accounts and the State of California. MetLife is a company I would strongly caution against.

Policy cancels (on its own) by age 80 yrs. for me and 70 yrs. for my spouse. (So I guess I need to die before then in order to receive my funds.) Policy payout reduces by 50% (on its own) by your 20 yr. mark within policy. So my 1 million dollar policy becomes a 500k policy by time I'm in my mid 50s. (So now I guess I need to die by time I reach my mid 50s if I want my family to receive the amount I've been paying into for the past years.) I'm completely shocked and disappointed that this company's practices is still going strong. I highly suggest all that brought into this fairytale to request a review of what your policy really gets you before it's too late. Currently I'm looking into finding a new plan with someone else as well as other options.

My policy is through my employer and I've bought up as high as I could to increase it. As the economy was "tanking" my employer had to cut costs: dropped health and dental insurance, removed vacation and sick pay, laid off a lot of personnel and cut the hours of those of us who were left. Life insurance however is 1 area he kept. He said the company is quite good, and willing to work with us.
