Don't even try to cancel your policy. It's harder than pulling teeth. The model they use is you sign up with insurance through the parent company "Mercury Insurance" and once you have your policy, they assign you to a local Agent. The local Agent IS NOT MERCURY. They are privately owned insurance companies. Dealing with the local insurance agent is a NIGHTMARE! It almost seems like they work out of a basement at their parents' house. The runaround and headaches with trying to do anything with your policy is an absolute nightmare! STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS... Spend the extra $50 and go with ANY OTHER insurance company. DISASTER they are!

So my vehicle was involved in an accident early May of this year. I filed a claim and was okay with Mercury not paying for any damages or covering the cost on MY vehicle because the driver was not under my insurance policy. Totally acceptable and I agreed with that. 2 weeks later I receive a call from Enterprise saying Mercury had put in a request for me to get a rental due to the loss my car. I confirmed with them that it was true and was told it was and that it would be covered $30/day. I agreed and picked up the car two days later than when I was first notified.

A week and a half in, I receive a call from Enterprise telling me that Mercury had rejected the claim they had put in for me to get this car and that I would have to pay out of pocket. I was pissed of course and called Mercury asking them the deal. I finally got a response from Tomm ** who told me, "Oh we assumed you knew it wasn't covered after we said your car wasn't covered". You assumed I knew? When the rental is calling me 2 weeks after the fact you told me my car wasn't covered but didn't decide to mention the fact of the rental policy. The managers are STRAIGHT UP RUDE as is already and are trying to say I'm taking advantage of a situation that I now might have to pay $700 out of my own pocket?! I have proof from the rental where they have on paper stating Mercury called in this rental for me which they are trying to claim they never did. Should never get insurance from here or trust people who owe 27 million for defrauding people.

I’m so beyond disappointed on how Mercury is handling my claim. One of their claim holders ran a stop sign and slammed into my brand new vehicle. Being my only vehicle it has cause me so much hardship and out of pocket expenses that they have prolonged and are trying to find ever reason not to cover. The police report puts their driver at fault. I don’t know what else they need to know. They need to cover this accident. My accident was 03/08/2019 and still nothing to be resolved... After reading hundreds of reviews this seems to be their MO. Something has to be done about this. Mercury cannot be doing this to innocent individuals who have had their lives turned upside down due to one of their claim holder's negligence... I will not stop till I have this company audited for the elongated waiting times they make people for a settlement. All I want is to be reimbursed for my out of pocket expenses.

I am changing insurance companies after being with Mercury Insurance for years and have never made claim. My son had an accident and the response from our agent assigned to the case was very poor. Poor response, communication and very poor advocacy. We were the only ones who took any pictures and had a witness.

So the other insurance company, Allstate contacted us within hours, advocating for their client. We called our agent Mercury over 20 times in three days, no response, when we finally did get through on the 4th day she said sorry, she was out. She said wanted to talk to our son, who was in school. She said she would be in until 4:45 pm. We called at 3:45 pm for every 15 minutes, no answer, nor forwarding phone. Then she called the next day during school and said, well the other person said it was our son's fault and she seemed rushed, ready to close it out and just settle, determine that from the go get.

We said we had a witness who contradicted the other driver. The witness told us she had not talked to him and then this morning she called and in a rush said she determined it was 100% our son's fault and when what did she base this one. She really did not have an explanation. She just wanted to move on to her next case. So we will switch insurance companies as this is incompetent, no advocacy and will only cost us more $s and if you really need help from your insurance company you will not get it with Mercury.

My mother is elderly 83 years old, I have to assist her with her affairs, including business. She’s had Mercury for a number of years. Never had to file a claim, until December 2018. She was not at fault for the accident. Unfortunately, was referred to a terrible health clinic for treatment. To date, the claim has not been settled because the clinic has basically closed down, and Mercury insists they can’t give her more than $1,000.00 because she has no proof of medical treatment. Before the clinic closed, they provided proof her visitations. They didn’t provide the actual records showing the type of treatment or costs. I don’t know why it should matter, they know she went several times. Ultimately, my mom will be responsible for her medical bills. As well as any continued pain or suffering.

I actually asked to speak with a supervisor. The claim adjuster, Kristie referred me to Gina ** who was the most rude person I’ve ever had the displeasure of speaking with. She accused us of falsifying the treatment ledger for my mom. How insulting! This company provided horrific customer service. These people shouldn’t even be employed in a customer service capacity. My active claim with date of loss, 12/20/2018 is going on 3 months for a minor accident where I am the victim. The Mercury claims associate who was assigned to me has not resolved or given me any updates for my claim unless I call him about it. He then states he sent me an email on 3/1/2019 which I didnt get and stated we have to wait for Formosa Insurance to respond. He then quickly gave me the Formosa Insurance information so I can make a call doing his job, stating he cannot call everyday on this issue.

Obviously no one can call every day, but is this how Mercury Insurance teaches their associates to speak to and treat their clients? Try not paying your monthly premiums and see how quickly you will be contacted. I filed a complaint with Mercury requesting contact from a supervisor who understands customer service and how to resolve this matter. Also to prove customer satisfaction comments are actually read and responded to. I have yet to be contacted.

I was badgered because I had 2 cars at a jobsite in Sonoma County to do fire reconstruction. My other two cars were parked at my house miles away and one more at a small airport so I could commute home in my plane. They found this unacceptable and were reluctant to insure me (basically being suspicious) and my agent & I had to explain my situation more than once in writing before they would accept my explanation. Then upon 6 month renewal, I had to fill out forms explaining who did and did not live at the two addresses where my vehicles were parked.

When I was late receiving and returning one of these because I was away from the mailbox, I received a cancelation notice. I had to have my agent intervene. They acted like I was trying to get away with something. I've never before had to explain myself with any other companies for the exact situation (working away from home). I guess I was too truthful with them. So now, they're outta here.

Mercury Insurance is one of the most dishonest, unethical, cheapest, ugly companies in America. More than a year and a half ago, I was rear-ended hard by one of their policyholders, and torpedoed a couple of lanes over into a County truck. I was hurt, my car demolished, and all witnesses, photos, and CHP attributed liability to the Mercury policyholder, who in addition was using a cell phone. Still, Mercury hasn’t paid and today made an absurd offer of ten thousand for medical bills, injuries, and then there’s the totaled car… along with two years of extra trauma from their withholding resolution. I should receive damages for having to deal with Mercury, and all persons and lawyers with whom I’ve spoken confirm the same as Mercury’s awful reputation.

The Jeep then went into a guard rail. The impact shot my truck into the guard rail. The woman never applied brakes. She hit the Cherokee so hard it knocked the rear wheel assembly off the vehicle and shot it into me 6 feet away then hit the rail. I took my truck to a body shop and the damage is over $7,000 dollars to mine. The Cherokee was a total loss, the drivers 2018 Nissan suv is a total loss. Mercury said mine would be a total loss also.

My Tacoma blue books for over $6,000 not counting the topper which was destroyed, the custom rims, stereo and front windshield I bought and had installed. Mercury is telling me all that included my truck is only worth $2,700. The average price of a 2004 Tacoma in San Diego is $6,000. Even their estimator told me he knows Tacoma’s hold their value better than any small truck and all the options is put on must be included in totaling the vehicle out. Now they want to ignore my phone calls and act like I’m responsible for the accident. Only thing to do is sue their client.

There has to be cheaper insurance. I will shop for new insurance next year. But other than that it is an easy process to make payments.

I had an auto insurance policy with Mercury for nearly two years. Today, I received a letter that my policy had been canceled due to lack of payment. As far as I knew, my account had been on auto-pay and drafting just fine. After reaching out to the company, they informed me that a customer support agent had taken my account off of auto-pay during a previous call. This was not made clear to me and I received no related notifications or warnings before my account was canceled. Mercury refused to reinstate my account (even after I offered to pay the missed payments in full), reduce the remainder they said I owed, or help me in any way whatsoever.

The way Mercury handled this case is insanely irresponsible for an insurance company. Had I been pulled over in the past week or two, I would have lost my car. All because a customer support agent didn't clearly inform me that they were taking me off auto-pay. I had been a consistent customers, fine credit, no accidents, valid licenses, etc. There is no reason on earth I should have been treated this way. If you're ever so unlucky to end up circumstance to a clerical error on Mercury's part, they will do absolutely nothing for you and leave you at risk of driving around without insurance.

I’ve probably used about $500 worth of claims for 3 tows and locking my keys in the car. So I’ve paid tens of thousands of dollars to receive $500 worth of service. I get one speeding ticket, just one, 80 in a 55 zone on a backroad to Vegas and Mercury is choosing to ** me by increasing my monthly premium but almost 50%! Yes I take responsibility for my ticket, but for a company I have been loyal to, to turn around and decide they are going to increase my premium that much because they can... it just doesn’t sit well with me. As a customer I feel unappreciated and used for the amount of money I’ve paid over the many years. I highly don’t recommend this company to anyone and will be writing on every site possible to make sure I share my experience.

Almost forgot, I called in to Mercury just to kindly ask for a phone/fax number and or address to their legal department and was told by Katie she wasn’t allowed to give me that information and she was going to transfer me to customer service. Now we all know what happened in customers service right? Long waiting, being transferred from here to there, being “accidentally” hung up on, yeah, no thank you! I have had Mercury insurance for several years now and fortunately have not needed them until recently. And, since accidents are not something I am usually involved in I do not have comprehensive coverage. I got into an incident recently and the person who hit my car and I have vastly different explanations as to what happened. I was going across a street from an alley onto an alley and was more than halfway across the street when I was hit by a truck. The other driver and I were unhurt and we exchanged insurance and driver's license info. I spoke with Mercury almost immediately to start a claim and was told a claim's adjuster would contact me in the next day or two.

The next afternoon the Mercury insurance adjuster called me Brett **. He asked me to explain what happened and immediately he tells me I am at fault. The problem with that is he was not comprehending what actually happened and where, although I was explaining it simply and precisely. It was on a residential street off a Main Street in Los Angeles I had stopped while in a one way, east to west, alley (heading west). Then proceeded to Cross the residential street to get to the next alley (the entrance to my doctor's parking area is off the alley). The residential street runs North/South, The adjuster Brett kept asking me if I was going north or south. I kept explaining to him that I was heading west, that I was CROSSING the residential street. It took Brett ** more than 20 minutes to understand where my car was going and where.

Initially, when I first Told Brett ** what happened he immediately tells me I am at fault for the incident. This without his understanding of what happened and the details of the situation in actually. After 45 minutes on the phone with Brett, he tells me we do have a case and that once they hear from the other driver's insurance we will need to go to arbitration and that can take a few weeks to schedule. About 10 days after speaking with Brett **, I get a phone message from him saying they are not going to arbitration and that they are citing me as the responsible party. Citing as California Vehicle code. Which I looked up and it states the term highway. Well, we were not anywhere near a highway. Then, when I called Brett ** to discuss the code he cited, he tried to backtrack without further explanation and told me that if I was not going to cut him off and he hung up the phone.

I called back to speak to his claims supervisor a woman named Denise. She was completely defensive from the start and even after she got the damage report from my car and the other driver's car showing that it would have been impossible for me to have hit him as he hit the driver side front quarter panel and the side of the front bumper with the back quarter panel and back wheel of the passenger side of his truck. Then when I told her about the wording of the code cited, she told "a highway can mean any road traveled on". I asked her where on the code record she saw that and could she send it to me at which point I was told by Denise that she wasn't there to send information to me and if I wanted to I could look it up myself and she told me she "has been an adjuster for over 29 years" and that the facts of how each car was impacted didn't matter.

She was completely rude and defensive. And Mercury insurance has been totally unprofessional and not looking out for my best interest or defending the facts of the situation. They would rather not defend their customers and are around to incur as little cost as possible especially when that means defending their client base. SAVE YOURSELF THE AGGRAVATION AND UNPROFESSIONAL ATTITUDE AND GET YOUR INSURANCE ELSEWHERE. They have a medium-low to low rating across the board anyway. And they have earned it.

We had Mercury Insurance for all of our cars for many years, I believe more than two decades. We were happy with them for a long time, but things have changed greatly and not for the better. We added on our daughter, a new driver, for coverage, and of course, our rates rose dramatically. We get that. She had two minor accidents. The first one happened in the college parking lot where she tapped a parked car. She waited till the other owner returned to her car because she is honest. The other one involved a lane change that was considered her fault.

But here's what we are so upset over: Early this year she left the country for a study abroad program for 4 months. I called the insurance agent whose been handling our account for years and asked if we could temporarily remove her from coverage. The agent (I won't name her here because of my husband's request) asked me when she would be back. I told her she was booked for a return flight on the 3rd of May and I would let her know when she returned. Didn't seem to be a problem and it saved us over a $1,000 so seemed like the right thing to do.

So the day our daughter returned from England, my husband called to reactivate her under our insurance. We were told that because she had 3 accidents, that we could not. She only had two. They recorded the parking lot incident twice under different days. We could only put her back on if we purchased a special rider costing us over a thousand extra a month which we deemed ridiculous. Although my husband is protective over this agent, she clearly lied, telling him that I said that our daughter would not be back for a year. Why would I have said such a thing? She'd asked for a specific date which I gave her. I'm not sure why this even matters exactly, other than I believe that one of the accidents would have been over three years ago if there's was more time allotted. Anyway, they wouldn't budge on things, so we have left Mercury. For good.

Even before this recent change of events, I was none too happy. About two years ago we donated one of our older cars after purchasing a new used car. I thought it would make our rates go down. Make sense, right? But no, our rates went up. One of the reasons for the rising cost, if I understand correctly, is that they could then assign whichever vehicle they wanted to whichever driver they wanted regardless of which one of us was actually driving each car the most. So naturally, they assigned our highest priced vehicle to our daughter, the highest risk driver in the family, even though she never drives it. We had no say in the matter where in previous years we could declare which one of us drive which. In addition, their rates have just generally gone up.

Anyway, we've now switched to Triple A insurance, and they seem happy to have us. Discovered that they are actually a non-profit of sorts and that there may be a return of some funds at the end of the year. We haven't been on long so I can't speak to that, nor to how good or bad their service really is. There was a hiccup with AAA losing the photos of our vehicles after we brought them in for pictures per AAA's request. It looked like they were going to actually close our account. We had to return for more pictures. So I guess they are not perfect either. Maybe none of these insurance companies are. But I will say that our rates have actually gone down overall with the switch, so maybe it was a good thing that Mercury dropped our daughter.

I still resent the whole way that they did things, though. If they had said that if we suspended her service they would not put her back on without a special rider, then we wouldn't have chosen to do so. I thought that agents were there to help you figure things out and work in both the customer's and the company's best interests. But apparently not. This agent worked only for Mercury's bottom line with no regard to treating their customer's fairly and honestly. I was tricked and unfairly treated!

A client of Mercury Auto Insurance hit my parked car in a parking lot, left a fake business card to make it appear as though he was leaving his information, leading me on a 3 day chase to find him. I obtained a rental car while my car was in the shop being fixed. Out of pocket expenses that I, MYSELF had to pay for insurance on the rental car was $79.96. I spoke with Mercury several times explaining that I should not incur these out of pocket expenses due to THEIR slimeball of a client hitting my car and running. They were uncooperative, non understanding and unwilling to accommodate or help in ANY way, simply saying over and over “we aren’t responsible for gas and insurance on rental vehicles”.

Instead of swallowing their pride, actually being helpful and doing the right thing by paying me the $79.96, which to me is a good chunk of change, but to them is pocket change, I’m here giving fair warning to others who unfortunately have to deal with them. AVOID them at all costs. Unwilling to help, unprofessional and unethical. I currently have a renters insurance policy through Mercury, but will now be seeking a BETTER and more ETHICAL insurance provider ASAP.

However my policy was not 30 days old before they sent a letter saying they were gonna be dropping my policy, due to inaccurate documentation. I sent in everything they asked for. They would not keep me as a client, saying they could not verify my address, but I receive mail at the same address! I felt like they just took my money. We have canceled all 3 of our insurance policies with Mercury (2 auto and 1 homeowner's) because of the terrible customer service experience we've had. It's unacceptable that our claim wasn't approved and paid out as it should have been based on the water damage and burst pipe under the crawlspace in our bathroom. I have a high degree of confidence that both your restoration company and your field inspector get incentives from Mercury to deny claims and avoid payouts in cases where damage has been incurred by your customers.

Both of them were taking pictures of areas not even related to burst pipe under the house below my bathroom floor, where the pinhole leak was actually found by the plumber. We had been Mercury customers for 15 years, and saw no appreciation for our loyalty. Good riddance to your shady insurance company. I've given you a 1 star review on Yelp, ConsumerAffairs and other sites and will discourage any of my friends/family from using Mercury Insurance in the future.

I had an outstanding relationship with Mercury Insurance company and my overall experience with them was very good. Making payments was easy and they had the SR22 policy for those who need SR22.

But my insurance agency had a difficult time renewing my auto insurance with Mercury Insurance company. My insurance agent was trying to renew my policy online and Mercury wasn't allowing it. I then asked to see the envelope and was told they would send me a copy rather than the original as it wasn't available. The copied envelope had a stamp affixed that I have never seen or used before. I have used only one stamp for several years; an American flag, forever stamp that I purchase in blocks of forty or fifty at a time. Neither my wife or I have ever used the stamp on the envelope.

It's obvious that an employee has tried to cover up the fact that Mercury received my premium payment on time by taking a Mercury envelope, placing a stamp on it and passing it off as the one I sent them. The result of all this has cost me $20,000 to pay off my car with my bank as the car was a total loss. This is a clear case of fraud. Mercury has been unresponsive to the matter, apparently unconcerned that they have an employee who would engage in an illegal act.

We pay a low amount for 3 vehicles and they are all fully covered. Most other companies charges very large amounts for multiple cars fully insured, but Mercury has worked with us. The process was pretty simple. We just went in and talked to someone and they worked with us and gave us a good quote that we were comfortable paying. When we have questions about our policy they do a very good job about explaining to us and working with us to resolve any issues. Very happy and satisfied.

But I have seen many commercials for how Mercury gives bonus checks to those that do not crash. And I don't like the fact that our state does not qualify to receive these checks. I have been a safe driver and would love to be rewarded for that. I don't think it's fair that they offer this in only certain states. They should offer it to all safe drivers no matter what state they live in. This alone makes me rethink staying with the insurance agency.

I can pick out the place to fix my car and if I want to get a payout don't give me a payout instead of fixing my car. However, when you get an accident one time they raise your premiums really high. $30 more and I don't like that. They should really do forgive this on accidents the first time. There is not one little issue that can I recall, where I have had negative repercussion due to the service of Mercury. However, I would like to see greater benefits for good driver consistency. It's nice to know that driving safe can lead to tangible (specifically money back) REWARDS. This is an incentive for the company and policyholder, and will probably save lives. I think all companies should engage in this type of policies. First time ever I had occasion to use roadside assistance. What a terrible experience it has been! My van broke down and I needed to have it towed. Mercury rep told me that since the distance was more than 15 miles, I would have to pay for the additional distance. I asked how much it would be and was told it would be $60. I asked if I could pay it after reaching the destination. The answer was: "Sure, no problem." When I reached the destination the driver demanded $200 in cash. He would not take credit card and he would not take no for an answer. He would just run away with my car unless I paid him. Called Mercury. Spoke to the supervisor named Jonathan.

He said that $60 was a special price available only if I had paid by credit card at the moment it was offered. Since I chose to pay at the destination, I was on my own. I would have to pay whatever the driver demanded. That is how it always works. Why I was not told about it upfront? He had no answer and was not bothered with this "minor detail." The driver would not release the car before getting the payment in cash. Once he got it, he left the car in the middle of the street and ran away. I had to ask neighbors help to push it to my driveway. I have been with Mercury for a long time. But all this time I was just paying the premium. Today I needed to use one of the services that I had paid for. And what a terrible experience it was.

Had an unfortunate incident, where a family member ran into our house with her car, and she was insured by Mercury Insurance. She called them, and I called my homeowners just to report the information. When she got off the phone with her representative, I asked her what they said about our house damage. She said they didn't mention it. UH... what??! I asked her to call them back and during that conversation, they told her they may not cover our house damage. Excuse me?!! Then my husband called them, and we waited... and waited... and waited for a return call. None came. He called them back and finally got a 'live' person and was told that since it was Saturday, there was nobody we could talk to and that we should try again on Monday. What the heck??!! Accidents only happen Monday thru Friday, 9-5?

Monday came -- no call. We called them again and were told that they didn't have any adjusters for this, as they were auto insurance, and we would need to use our homeowners insurance company. What a crock! Our agent said this is just a game they play, especially since they also provide homeowners insurance - and my relative had both thru them. Our agent also said that if they didn't have any adjusters -- then it was up to THEM to hire one and not make us file a claim. But, given the runaround we had already received, we went ahead and used our insurance company, which meant we would be out our deductible to begin with. Not happy!

Our insurance company handled everything because Mercury was totally useless. They kept sending us letters telling us they didn't know if they would approve the claim and were 'working on it'. Another game no doubt. The accident happened in October and in March (yup -- 5 months later!), we received a letter from yet asking us to sign off on a certain dollar amount for the claim, and stated if we did, we could not push for any additional dollars. The amount they wanted us to agree to was less than the repairs, and did not include our deductible. Our insurance adjuster said it was yet another game and not to sign. Our adjuster handled it from there and was able to secure the proper amount. WHAT A PAIN! I have no idea why anyone would use this sham of a company.

It has been a full month since the accident and have received no compensation, a lot of drama, and continued excuses of why they are shirking their fiduciary responsibility in which their client pays for in order to handle this. In my opinion this company is fraudulent in their business practices.

My 2012 Honda Pilot was parked in a parking lot when someone hit it from behind. The driver in a very polite way gave copy of his insurance and driving license. I called the Mercury and reported the Claim, After a week I got a mail asking me to wait, they are going to check with other driver. I called them back as I didn't hear anything in three weeks. The lady, in a very disrespectful attitude told me that "where is your address, I will introduce to a collision center as long as I know at which city do you live". This was the most foolish question. If you did not know my city how did you send me the mail. I took my car to the Cooks Collision and they estimated the damage. After a week I got another email from Mercury; they denies the full or partial payment. They think I have made this story and the damage had been from days back in my car. Now, I mad, can't go to sleep. How such a big company can steal workers money. I am really frustrated.

For more than 3 months since the collision Mercury representatives, Elsa ** and Phillis kept saying they were unable to contact the driver who hit my car, despite the fact that I had provided them his driver license, vehicle type, VIN number, insurance card and cell phone telephone. The collision occurred in September 2017, and it's now mid-December. I called every week asking them the status of my claim, they just kept saying they are still trying to contact the driver but refused to tell me how they try to contact him. They also refused to tell me how long I would have to wait. This is completely unbelievable and unacceptable. Worse than dealing with a government agency! I am furious!

How can we do that not knowing how much this is costing me??? Isn't this crazy!!! It has been 4 mos. in total, back at square 1... Absolutely a horrible experience.

We had water damage in the master bath when a shower arm broke. It broke because I adjusted the nozzle to make the water force lighter. UPSTAIRS DAMAGE: The damage was in the master bath shower wall, the master bedroom wall, carpets. And the damage went down one wall and across another wall. DOWNSTAIRS DAMAGE: The ceilings and 4 walls directly below the water damage above, a built in floor-to-ceiling wood pantry, the pantry doors, the adjoining walls around the pantry and wood flooring and baseboards. The adjacent bathroom 3 more walls and ceilings and alcove tiles.

We contacted a local water damage company, Kade, instead of using Mercury's preferred vendor - Servpro. We didn't go with Servpro because they had horrible reviews. The Mercury Insurance inspector came out, did a quick review, left and then came back with a bid that was nowhere near the cost to cover the damages. He would not return phone calls or emails. The Mercury agent refused to use email because he told me: I get 60 emails a day, I can't answer them.

THREE INDEPENDENT BIDS: Everything was done on Mercury's terms. They wanted to wear me out. He processed the claim and came back with zero additional funds. In other words, the total cost would not exceed the deductible. The 3 independent contractors came in between $25,000 to $30,000 of additional damages. For example, Mercury said we could just dry out the carpet upstairs and replace a PORTION of the carpet in the master bedroom. And leave the other existing. Over half the carpet was damaged in there yet they we were supposed to 'cut and paste' some new vs. old. There is no way that carpet would match, let alone be safe.

I know our house very well. One, we've lived in it 37 years. We've remodeled it twice. The second remodel was the 2nd story. We remodeled our house and I worked directly with the architect that took my plans and put them into a rendering. When the Mercury inspector came out, he spent about 30 minutes, if that inspecting our house. Made a quick lap around the house, then BAM, out the door. Then he went back and submitted the claim and came back with his analysis. Our deductible would not be met - based on HIS estimated. He was not using CALIFORNIA LABOR RATES for the subs we need to hire.

There is no way. Materials and labor are higher in CA. We got (3) separate bids like we always do for our work at our building or home. Our independent bids exceed Mercury's by $20,000 to $30,000 for total cost (including deductible). For example, there is no way to rebuild a floor to ceiling solid wood pantry, paint it and replace necessary hardware using California licensed labor. Yet the Mercury bid came in less than $500. I dare any California homeowner to find a licensed contractor with great skills to do that kind of work.

I contacted the supervisor of our inspector at Mercury and he ignored me. Then I contacted the Department of Insurance and they agreed with Mercury. Yet, the rep from the Department of Insurance had NEVER reviewed my case the first time. I know that, because I contacted him again and asked to reopen the claim. The same Dept. of Insurance rep asked me to send him the same documents again because he wasn't aware of some info. I told him the info was in there. He finally admitted that he had not reviewed them in depth. I also submitted the 3 bids for the damages as well as extensive photographs to the Dept. of Insurance. Apparently, The Department of Insurance suggested that Mercury come back out one more time. It took NINE MONTHS before Mercury sent out the agent again.

And guess what they did? The same inspector made a nominal additional payment in order to exceed my deductible. In other words, they would increase my premiums (penalizing) me for going to the Department of Insurance. And pay in excess of the deductible - but just enough to get us off their backs. Not based on the actual cost of the damages. I was advised to contact a lawyer. But why should I have to? The terms of the policy were not met. Mercury dragged its feet - for almost a year. They evaluated the claim again, only at the request of the Department of Insurance.

The second time the inspector came out, he brought his own Mercury contractor. We were all together in the upstairs master bedroom and bathroom same as they inspected the house. But when they came back down, they did not follow us into the kitchen meeting area where we started. Instead, they were having a pow wow down the hall and out of view. After a few minutes, I finally went back to find them WHISPERING. I asked why they needed to whisper and have a private meeting. They got a bit rattled and joined us.

After one year of hassles, the same adjuster said he would resubmit the claim. Even though he was no longer an adjuster. He told me with a smug look: I got promoted. Yep, Mercury promotes those adjusters that drag their feet and get claims lowballed or denied. That's job security for Mercury. Forget about the terms of the policy and the actual damages. We ended up getting addition payment of just under $3000 for our initial claim. That's $20,000-$25,000 less than the repair estimates we got.

Of course our premiums went up: Just over $3,000. So, we were penalized for reopening the claim. Yet our contractors came in with bids well over Mercury's definition of damages. As a final disclaimer: My husband and I own a life and health insurance agency. We do know about insurance. Not, we're not experts in homeowner's insurance but oftentimes, we hear the horror stories of underpaid homeowner's claims.

And finally: the reason why we were so adamant about our claim with Mercury. It wasn't the first time we had damages with them. Just the year before, we had water damage from the upstairs second bathroom. It was Christmastime and the water went down the wall of a downstairs bedroom. We called Mercury and an inspector name Matt came out. He taped off the area he said was damaged and marked it with orange tape, if I recall. It was taped off. Based on his assessment. He estimated the damages to be under $500. Well, turns out the damages were $1,500.00.

A week later, we had guests visiting from Thailand. Half of the closet wall and the adjoining ceiling collapsed. Yep. Fortunately the drywall didn't hit them. We had (3) contractors come out and bid to replace the drywall and paint. The bid came in less than our deductible. That's why we have been so prudent. Mercury lowballed the SCOPE on the first claim. And they did it again on the second claim.

Our deductible was and is: $5,000. When we contacted our agent who sold us the policy for the second claim. The agent OWNS a huge casualty agency. We have mutual insurance related friends. But we've known him for years so he oversaw both claims enough to be dangerous. He said, "Why did you guys get a $5,000 deductible?" We reminded him that he suggested the high deductible. We have plenty of photos that we've taken at the time of the damage as well as the work in progress.

We ended up being hit by a car right on our front bumper driving our Toyota Corolla. We drove the car home after accident. One of the appraisers from Mercury came out to look at It and said it was not totaled so we can be fixed. Six days later we get a call from Natalie Extension **. Natalie says, "I know you haven't spoken to me before I've been out. We really need to get this taken care of because you're in a rental car???" I said, "Yes ma'am. I've been calling the insurance company from the other driver but they're not answering." She said, "You need to find somewhere for us to take the car now while we're on the phone because if I hang up the phone I'm going to have to close your case." I said, "OK let me call my husband because he wanted to send it to Toyota." She then said, "Do they fix the cars?" I said, "I don't know. Let me look it up." She said, "Hold up. Give me the number. I'll call your husband."

She said she tried to call and he didn't answer the phone so I was like I don't know what to do (mind me I'm in pain). She said, "Whatever you need to do it needs to be done before I hang up." She started telling me about two companies they was affiliated with them. I said, "What are their names so I can look it up." She said, "We don't have that time. Once I hang up I'm going to close the case." To make a long story short I trusted them to take my car to the shop. Not even three days later I get a phone call saying that I need to come and grab my things.

Mercury stole my car. They claimed it was totaled. My husband looked on his phone for the sixth and she never called him while he was at work. I called and spoke to Mr. Mike ** and he basically made me feel like I did something wrong. I've been having full coverage hundred dollar deductible forever and with Mercury. It's so not worth it. So I recently got into an accident 1 day ago on October 8th. The agent I originally spoke to about my accident approved my claim and ordered a tow truck company to pick up my vehicle to take it to the Mercury collisions center. The next day I get a phone call from Rebecca ** around 1 pm and from the start it seemed like an interrogation to find a reason not to honor my claim. She didn't bother to ask me how I was doing or if I was okay. She did ask me if I hit someone else, how many people I had with me and even questioned if I was on the policy, and then asked me if was using the vehicle for work. She did tell me I don't get a rental car.

So I explained to her that the accident occurred while I was delivering groceries to an elderly lady because that's what I do on the weekends. Because I get compensated for charity work I guess they can't honor my claim. As soon as I mentioned delivering groceries she said she'll have to talk to her supervisor Crystal because she's pretty sure I'm not covered while working. I was a little confused as she hung up. I tried calling her on two different occasions at 2:30 pm and 4 pm but she didn't answer. I left a message with her and her supervisor but received no callback or anything. We'll see what happens tomorrow and we're skeptical about continuing to hold insurance with mercury. It was ugly feeling after being in an accident and it got even uglier knowing that they treat their customers this way. I wish I would've saw these reviews earlier because I'm obviously not the only person they've done this to.

An update after I received a phone call today 10/10/2017 almost 24 hours after speaking with Rebecca ** she called me back. First thing she says is "I need a recorded statement saying you were working". Really? I've given two statements and I have no need to move further with another statement so you can fabricate some story to get you out of honoring my policy and claim. I then began to tell her that I don't want another phone call from you until you have an answer for in regards to my claim. So she hung up. Let's see what happens now.

An update on 10/11/2017 - Okay so I took the initiative to contact the corporate office because I wasn't getting anywhere and Rebecca ** she is never in the office to answer the phone or she's screening her calls. The representative from the corporate office called Crystal the supervisor whom I left a message for and never got a return call until now. She was a little more polite than Rebecca ** but it's very difficult to tell if she's being genuine or just trying to get me off her back. She said she's still waiting for her manager to make a decision on my claim and explained to me that she would keep me posted. She later called me back towards the end of the day to tell me she still didn't get any feedback from her manager. So as of now we have gotten nowhere and are now going on to day 4. Let's see what happens now.

After 10 yrs with Mercury and no claims, another person severely damaged my car while I was inside shopping at our local grocery store. The damage was all along the driver side of my car, the impact of her Mercedes moved my car and damaged the door on the passenger side. The other drivers tail light was left embedded into my car. The driver waited and had me paged inside the store. To make a long story short, Mercury handled the whole transaction - or so I thought. I had to return the car since the passenger side was not completed. In fact it was never marked by either Insurance Investigator - the other being Allstate.I was told by Mercury to prepay the additional car rental for the passenger side repair, and I would get reimbursed.

Well 324.00 later and 15 months later and I am still waiting for reimbursement. Meanwhile I canceled Mercury, wrote to them 4 times, wrote to Allstate as well as the Insurance Commissioner. Mercury kept blaming Allstate for the long wait. Allstate never responded to my correspondence and the Insurance Commissioner's office wrote to me that Mercury was working on it and awaiting response from Allstate. Here I am 15 months later still out $324.00 and I am on Social Security.

One month after the 2nd repair I went to Jiffy Lube for my regular oil change and was told I had an oil leak. I told them what happened and the suggestion was that the impact of the Mercedes moving my car up on the shopping cart railing could have done it, since they knew I never had an oil leak prior. Plus her tail lights were embedded into and below the drivers side of the car. I do not have the money to pay for more car rentals and not get reimbursed. The Allstate Claims Adjuster came to take photos of the car and the first thing he did is to remove the taillight before taking the photos. I made him aware of it and he told me that would not make any difference. But I had taken photos prior to him arriving. When the Allstate people phoned me for a report she told me they have to report this to the DMV, I told them it was ok since I was not in fault. Recently I found out that this has not been reported. All I really care about is the monies owed to me.

On 5/26/2017 I was sideswiped and it was a hit and run. My vehicle was towed to 1st Certified Collision Center in Riverside, CA 92501. The vehicle was scheduled to be completed June 9th. But I was notified that my vehicle failed the alignment inspection and they had to reorder parts. This caused an alarm in my mind so I notified who I thought was my claims adjuster Angel **, but come to find out he was not. I was told by the body shop that my vehicle would be done on Monday. I didn't get a call until about 3 p.m. that my vehicle would be done at 5 p.m. I was told by Angel who is in fact Mercury's rental agent that I was allowed to pick it up the next morning.

So Tuesday June 13th at 9:45 am as they drove my vehicle out the first thing I noticed while I was inside the office, was that my vehicle is making a noise, my vehicle has never made that noise before. I made sure to tell the gentleman ** (from 1st Certified). I also called Angel and let him know that I did not feel comfortable taking my vehicle. I was very apprehensive and I did mention to him the only peace of mind I have is the fact that I am getting a second opinion scheduled Wednesday 14th at Volkswagen dealership. I took my vehicle in Volkswagen for a safety test the alignment for the front tires did not pass. It failed the alignment test. They also were able to find out where that noise was coming from and it was coming from something called the pulley that they stated they would have to replace now. This job alone would cost 800 plus dollars and the alignment would be $109.

I called Angel right away let him know the situation and he informed me that he is not my claim adjuster. Mind you I've been talking to this man off and on since my vehicle is in the shop so I assumed he was my claim adjuster. My previous agent Robert who I first initially signed up with Mercury Insurance with informed me to call his partner ** who is currently handling my policy. At this point I will not lie I am 100% irate, a 100% pissed off, a 100% frustrated. Joe asked me to calm down at this point. I told him I cannot calm down. He stated he will contact my claim adjuster who is **. This is the first time I hear of **. Again I will not lie, he probably did call me on the day of the accident after everything was taken care of. He did not set everything in motion.

Another agent started the procedure so if he called me it was to tell me that he received that information and that he was my claims adjuster I cannot recall I was just in the accident. ** wants to take my vehicle back to the body shop that falsely handed my vehicle over back to me with the impression that it had pass alignment inspection. I have the paperwork to prove it. I also have paperwork to prove that VW ran the alignment inspection and my vehicle failed. ** was rude and unprofessional speaking to me as if I was a family member, basically calling me a liar and telling me I did not need to involve Robert who I felt comfortable with, who was as I stated previously my agent and who also gave me permission to contact him if I needed any assistance. I have tried to call Mercury to file a complaint and was unsuccessful. As a paying customer this company has not protected my best interest or my safety.

My vehicle in the long run can suffer more issues with the tires being unaligned and that noise coming from my vehicle that was never there before, I did leave out the fact that I had to speak to a Sam ** who I was on the phone with for over an hour while I was at the Volkswagen dealership. Explain to him the situation he told me that the pulley issue was a maintenance issue which in fact is not true and basically said I had to pay out of pocket for that, he also spoke to the consultant that helped me at Volkswagen, he spoke to the mechanic at Volkswagen all on my cellphone and still did not give me any options to help me as a customer. I am exhausted and would appreciate if Mercury corrected the situation.

I had over $90,000 in medical expenses for my injuries, no one hurt in truck that hit me, however Mercury didn't have to pay for medical, only $3700 for my totaled car and repairs to the truck. I got 1 point for the accident and Mercury raised my insurance $200/yr for the accident and penalized me for driving more than 2000 miles in a year in the used replacement car. I was told ALL insurances in California were raising their rates. I reduced coverage to PL/PD and will be leaving California before end of year. I am a 45 year old female with Zero moving violations or any infractions, ever. I've been with Mercury for many years and like most people here my rates go up every year even though I've had no tickets or accidents. That, not being frustrating enough, my daughter moved out in January when she turned 18 years old. She never got a permit and did not want to drive. After she started driving and got her driver's license she had a car with her own insurance at her new residence. Mercury assessed that she had my address on her driver's license, they raised my insurance from 1000 every 6 months to $3,000 every 6 months. That was just to add a driver to my policy. I informed them that she did not live here.

They said I had to get her to change her driver's license address or provide them with proof that she's covered with her own policy. She is over 18, she is an adult and I should not have to go around proving that she doesn't live here as opposed to them proving that she does. It's very unprofessional. I could go on and on about an accident I was in that they even said they knew it was not my fault, but they were electing not to pay any of the damages using the uninsured motorist that I pay for. Worst company ever. Please shop elsewhere. They definitely operate very sketchy business. I'm waiting for them to send me a prorated amount for my daughter not living here and charging me for her portion. I have switch to State Farm. Will see if they can treat me better. But in the meantime, I will be searching for a good attorney. This is ridiculous. They should not be allowed to do this to anyone!

Been faithful customer for 23 years. NEVER filed a home claim. Had a flood that ruined half my home. It's been 1 month as of yesterday and we still do not have a confirmed $ amount from Mercury. I had one of their agents hang up on me because after numerous phone calls, she finally called me back and I told her she needs to do her job. She hung up and I was assigned another adjuster. New adjuster doesn't like my contractor and because of it, this whole thing keeps getting delayed. My contractor that I have chosen is pushy and detailed and the only one fighting for my home to be put back together. They are doing everything they could to save themselves a few hundred $ while we sit and wait. They originally called ServPro out to dry out my solid wood floors. Dry out was not done proper and mold was created. Mercury wouldn't stand up for me, rather they stood behind their contractor (ServPro).

After 3 contractors confirmed ServPro ruined my floor, Mercury was more concerned about going over the limited amount on my mold policy than they were about live fungus growing in my home. The mold was only created because THEIR contractor didn't properly dry my floor. It's been one thing after another. My beautiful solid oak floors have been taken out and we are now living on slab. Mercury should of made me feel taken care of and protected. All they have done was give us grief, and continue to do so. Good luck on trying to call someone. IF you get a hold of anyone, consider yourself lucky. It takes a day or two to get a return phone call with the excuse that "they are really busy". When this is all said and done. I am considering seeking legal action. They make me feel like I'm trying to return a pair of shoes that I have worn everyday for 2 years. Disgusted how I have been treated.

Mercury is the worst insurance you can ever experience. They only take your money premium after premium for years but if the time comes where you need them, they suddenly find an excuse or a way to tell you that you are not covered. Honestly, this happened with me and with one of my friends. I had renter's insurance for my apartment because it was required by my landlord and was paying for it for two years and when I had a water leak that had damages that was valued to $1700 they initially refused to pay and denied the claim, and came up with weird explanations that did not make sense.

It took me months of aggravation, phone calls, emails to various persons in the company and finally when I was about to take the case to court they decide to pay some of it. I totally lost confidence and respect to this company and I have no trust especially after being a loyal customer and having three cars insured with them as well for 5 years. I switched to another company right away and I am even saving around $50 dollars a month.

Find an insurance company that has its own sales rep as Mercury does not and anyone can sell its products whether they are trained or not and these sales reps have to learn about so many different insurance companies that they get confused and give you the consumer wrong information that will come back to haunt you once you need help. My advice is to find an insurance with its own sales reps that work for one insurance company only and this way it is more controlled and you are given proper customer service and reliable information.

Upon cancelling my policy, Mercury charged me an excessive fee and penalized me for shopping around. What a terrible company and terrible customer service. I pleaded with them to refund my money and prorate the 4 days I had used the policy, but they rudely declined and just stated their terrible policy. Stay away from Mercury!

Our house has a leak in the wall, Mercury's claim adjuster, the plumber and recovery team all said how were we to know there is a leak in the wall. Mercury said we have no claim. Since I do not have rental car coverage under my auto policy, I was required to deal with the responsible party's insurance company - Mercury Insurance. First, my claims representative at Mercury was switched (without any type of notification to me), the new rep didn't think anything was owed during our first conversation, the check was sent to an incorrect address, the reimbursement letter was incorrect, and communication had to be kept with the claim rep's supervisor (whom was the only one that would pick up a phone).

My total reimbursement was around 1/3 of the out-of-pocket expense that I paid for a REASONABLE rental car. In order to pursue the remainder, Mercury has demanded that a small claims case be made against their driver before they would get involved any further. This was a ridiculous experience, second-rate customer service, and a reason to appreciate the quality of service that I have with STATE FARM. I would not wish Mercury Insurance upon anyone.

I called customer service and was told that my 'discount' was removed because they never received proof of prior insurance. Really? I was never ASKED for proof of prior insurance. OK. So I emailed them their docs. They tell me it's too late to change my bill for $195 because there's no possible way to change that once it's been billed and they're going to take that out of my account no matter what so I complain because basically I'm spending an extra $100 for absolutely NOTHING. Next someone named "Onika" tells me that my rate will be lowered afterwards to $76/month so I'm happy and hang up.

Then I get a voicemail from underwriting so I call back. My docs I submitted aren't accepted because I started my policy with Mercury 2 days before my old policy expired. WHAT? That makes no sense. They tell me I can remedy that by sending my prior, PRIOR insurance declaration page. So I scramble to find that and I send it. Then I call back, YET AGAIN, and the person I talk to says that the new docs I submitted aren't any good and my rate will still go up to $115 a month and I can't get my extra $100 back. So, I tell him that I spoke with ONEIKA who assured me my rate would go down to $76/month after this month's bill. "I don't know what she was talking about. They gave the quote on phone (They call me after I left my number on some website) so I couldn't prove they ever said 100$/month. After I found out I tried to switch to other companies, but Mercury just never picks up phones, and when they finally did, they said I should send an email and didn't tell me which address I should send it to and what to say in the email, until I asked. No response after sending the email until I send another to ask when can I have the insurance cancelled, and their reply was that I have to inform them 5-10 days in advance. That means I have to pay another 170$. Anyway I'll try my best to stop it as soon as possible. Remember to AVOID MERCURY next time!

I am so glad I don't have Mercury Insurance. I was involved in an accident with a driver having Mercury Insurance and was insured. They have done everything possible to get out of paying the claim saying that my doctor was overcharging (false) and I must of had a pre-existing condition (not true). They say I should not have been insured and have offered only a very small amount towards bills. I am disgusted with them. They do everything possible to get out of paying a claim. My insurance company is the best. Maybe I pay they are always very fair in handling any claim.

Beware. What a shady, unprofessional company. Purchased homeowner's coverage. Paid faithfully for years without ever filing claim. Had a minor water leak, fixed the leak without a claim; they would not have covered the amount anyway. 2 months later the tenants said they thought maybe there was mold from the leak. Mold inspection, which I paid for, says maybe there is. Same day as I received the result I opened a claim. Mercury will not assist as they state I needed to report within 1 week of the loss. a) My policy doesn't say "1 week", it says promptly when I know there's an occurrence. b) The occurrence isn't the water leak, it's the possibility of mold. Disappointed that Mercury will not stand behind the policy they wrote me. I will be changing companies ASAP.

We cancelled our insurance on time as requested by them (3 days prior) and Mercury tried twice to get the money from my bank causing me a 2 times overdraft fees ($68) and also hiding in their contracts - they charged me 10% "penalty" when I went to switch insurance more affordable and better coverage for less than they were charging me. Their agent "forgot" to mention this when we open the policy. It's not that we suppose to read the contract but at least when they sold to somebody a new policy THEY ARE IN THE OBLIGATION to tell you that if you cancel, there will impose a penalty, like when they told you about the coverage, price and term. I submitted a complaint with the State of California and waiting for a response. Terrible customer service when you call to their 800' number, you are transferred so many times that you get frustrated. A good tactic to feel helpless and just pay them that money (the 10% penalty).

I had a full coverage auto policy which included personal and commercial coverage. My car was repossessed by Uber/Bama Commercial Leasing (which is also a HUGE SCAM, DO NOT DO IT). The insurance company STILL drafted out a payment when my policy had been cancelled. They are saying that the policy charges a 10% fee of the unused portion of the policy. I had ONE month left and 145$ was paid and I am getting 4.55$ cents back.

I was also lied to about my policy being completely cancelled, my bank account ACH set up, it was coming from the wrong account, and I also am very confused as to how I am charged for a policy I CANCELLED and I don't have a car to be covered. I thought by law, I could not be charged for a full coverage policy unless I had a car. On top of it, I asked for proof of the policy breakdown and they said I would receive an email in 3 business days to see what the breakdown was. They refused to tell me over the phone. This company lies, deceives and steals money.

I had a Mercury auto policy recommended by a super flaky broker who I have since stopped doing business with. After a year of coverage, and absolutely zero incidents that would cause my premium to rise, I moved to a new apartment and started getting all these letters saying I had to exclude my roommate as an eligible driver of my car (apparently because he has a poor driving record). Even though I had lived with a boyfriend for the first full year of my policy who had a bad driving record and never had to exclude him! So, I exclude him, and my policy goes up anyway by $40!! Again, my driving record is perfect, so this made absolutely no sense. Then to top it all off, I get another series of letters saying I have to exclude using my car for business purposes, which incidentally, is 95% of what I use my car for.

So I get fed up and cancel my policy. 3 days after I receive confirmation that my policy is cancelled, Mercury direct debits my account for $121. I call my brokerage and they explain the charge was already in the pipeline, but not to worry, I will get a refund check. Just got the check... for $86!! Apparently they charge a cancellation fee! So I'm $35 poorer AFTER cancelling my policy because Mercury just went into my account and took what they wanted. Buyer beware of Mercury in general and any brokerage who recommends them and doesn't disclose their sheisty business practices upfront. If you cancel with them, you better also immediately cancel direct debit AND deny them any further access to your bank account!

My son slid off the road and the car free fell about 4 feet into a ditch. The engine mounts failed as did 2 of the 4 struts (shock, springs). Flat tires, car all bashed in. Mercury used body and fender inspectors and only checked mechanical parts when they later failed - and claimed it was not accident related. So we've sued them and finding this is a business practice which we are trying to stop.

I had an accident and the other driver has Mercury Insurance. This person made an illegal U-Turn without using any directional lights from the right lane all the way to the opposite traffic, who does that?! I was on the left lane going about 10 miles/hr on a street when all of a sudden I see her car coming towards me without any notice. I immediately put the breaks on my car and tried to avoid her but she was determined to do this crazy U-Turn. Traveling to other countries, you can see this type of behavior on drivers, doing crazy left turns and U-Turns that cover 2 to 3 lanes but this is the USA! Come on!

Anyways, after I gave my recorded statement to my insurance and called Mercury to give all my information. The claim specialist Brielle ** provided me with the claim number, sent me to a collision center to get an estimate and apologized for what happened to me. She also asked me that how severe were my damages. She explained the insured had very limited liability and they wanted to make sure Mercury was going to be able to make the payment for my accident. I sent all the pictures to both of the insurances showing the accident but after a couple of days my insurance told me that Mercury didn't want to accept liability. The other driver completely lied. Mercury insurance said that she had to go with what her insurer said and denied the claim.

Obviously, they don't want to pay for the damages and even though this person calls herself a claim agent, she obviously doesn't want to do her job properly. The pictures show everything clearly but she's just going with what her insured said. Very disappointing at Mercury insurance. This company doesn't really want to be responsible for what happened, they just want to avoid paying when their insured is at fault. Now, I have to wait for the claim to go to arbitration. I'm pretty sure the arbitrator is going to make a decision right away based on the pictures. Even my claim specialist from my insurance told me that the pictures are pretty straight forward and show that I'm not at fault.

Also, my claim representative tried talking to the Mercury claim representative Brielle but she was uncooperative. The other person lied saying that she made a turn from the left lane, if that would have been the case, the accident pictures would be very different! I just don't understand why Mercury insurance is lingering this issue. If you have an option to choose insurances, please do not use this company. They obviously are poorly trained and don't know how to solve a claim. I don't know how this claim representative sleeps at night knowing of what she does for a living.

We have been with Mercury Insurance for twenty years (home, rental property, auto) but have never had a claim. Recently our car was rear ended and Mercury is handling this. It has been a complete disaster. They took a long time to assign an adjuster who was quite uncommunicative. It took over two weeks to have someone look at the car to determine if it can be repaired. After many cancellations someone was able to see the car and we were told that it will be totaled and we will be contacted in 1 day to discuss settlement. No one has called in a week. This insurance company can collect your money but don't expect anything when you actually need them. I intend to pull all my insurance accounts from Mercury soon. This insurance company is unfit for any business. Should be avoided at all costs.

I have been informed that until their policyholder verbally contacts them to give his side of the story they will not process the claim. In the meantime, I am without a drivable vehicle. Their guidelines clearly are what gives consumers a rotten experience with insurance.

Some property/casualty survey company demanded to see inside building or would be canceled. Let him in. He found a very old water stain on ceiling tile. He left. I asked what would happen next. He said none of my business. Received a letter April 12, 2016 regarding the water stain. Have to have a licensed contractor inspect roof. Was told if not done in a month would cancel.

I want to Cancel all policies with Mercury which is over 11,000.00 a year. Can not get an answer or have been lied to from the beginning. Why the inspection to begin with. Edward ** from property casualty was rude and say it was none of my business really. Mercury said they can't help. The underwriter said "get more bids". Really this has being going on for three months. The broker has never in 40 yrs dealing with Mercury ever heard of this. I have been with Mercury for a few years. No problem unless you actually need their assistance! I had an accident in July 2015 and I specifically told my claims adjuster it was not my fault, and if the other driver did not say it was my fault and HIS insurance contacts ME to follow up on the claim why would Mercury insist it was my fault and pay out to the other driver. And then continuously calls me afterwards to rush me to get my car fix or to tell him where to send the money so I can just go on my own time and pay my deductible.

Now March 2016 with another accident; hit and run; one week following the incident the adjuster had not called me and then today they did. WHY? Because the person who I found that hit my car and lied about it (it was in my office complex parking lot so not hard to find the other driver). Insurance company called her first so then she chooses to call me back after I had left her a message prior wondering why I had nobody contact me. Horrible!!! I recently purchased a auto policy for our daughter online with Mercury Insurance. (The "front" company was Insurance Answer Center.) After a long, detailed process, the company found us a great rate, $650.00 for a six month policy. Unfortunately, we were being set up for the first phase of this scam. We paid the entire premium that day by credit card, and thought everything was taken care of. 2 weeks later, we receive a bill in the mail for $2,200.00 and a "deposit" of $650.00. Obvious bait and switch!!! I immediately called other insurance companies, and acquired a rate of almost 1/2 that of Mercury ($1,320.00 with State Farm). I canceled the policy that day and started our new insurance with the carrier.

Phase II of the scam: After having to make several phone calls to Mercury, I was finally issued a refund for the policy. You can imagine how surprised I was to see a refund of $310.00. I like to think of myself as a fair individual, and I didn't expect a full refund, as I did have their coverage for a month. (In retrospect, however, I did not know about the scam until I received the bill, which wasted 2 weeks.) That being said, I will absorb the one month. Unfortunately, I received less than 1/2 of the paid premium for one month's service. When I contacted Mercury, they tried to blame it on the "Insurance answer center." Bottom line is I paid someone's commission for an obvious bait and switch routine. We all work hard for our money. TAKE MY WARNING AND SAVE YOURSELF A LOT OF TIME AND AGGRAVATION. Stay as far away from this scam as you can. There is a reason they have 1.something stars!!! Shop elsewhere.
