We decided to get a home warranty so we would have some extra insurance. We chose First American because our friend who has it was very happy with it and said she always had good results. Submitting a claim has always been very good and it's easy. They’ve always been very helpful. We’re elderly people and they’ve always been real good about helping us and talking clear about it. I’ve had good results with all of the technicians that they’ve sent. I like the way they call back real fast and the quality of work has always been good. We just had some electrical work done by a man over in Pine Bluff. He went overboard of helping us and explaining everything to us. I'm very satisfied with FirstAm.

First American Home warranty have been my main source for warranty services since I had my first home and the service response time have lowered my expectations in the last year. Within the last 6 months our response time for service have been over 30 days in time. This is unacceptable. I hope this complaint is leveled to the highest authority in this company.

I have called these people numerous times and paid several contractors to come out and look at the plumbing issues at my house. Not only have they sent me three different incompetent companies who didn't show up twice when I took off work to meet them, but they also DO NOT COVER anything other than a minor clog in your toilet. If there are "venting" issues or if the plumber deems a "foreign object" in your pipes then they do not cover it. A foreign object btw is anything lodged in your pipes. This is hands down the worst company in ANY industry I've ever dealt with in my life. Now, to top all of your frustrations off - NO ONE SPEAKS ENGLISH. EVERYONE HAS A THICK FOREIGN ACCENT. THIS COMPANY IS A JOKE!!! Now I have a toilet that won't flushed, paid for a new toilet when the old one wasn't broken, and no one seems to be able to help.

When we purchased the house, First American came with the warranty. After we had it and used it a few times, we thought it was beneficial to us. We own several properties and we found that it's easier and more cost efficient to have the warranty. We've had a good experience on most claims. First American covers what they say they're going to cover and usually we get a quick response with repairs. The reps are always very polite and trying to help. First American also does a good job of making sure that the technicians are reputable and honest. We've only had one bad situation with a plumber and we complained to First American. They put a complaint on our account and we don't have to use that plumber anymore. The quality of the works has always been good and if it's not, then First American lets us call them within 30 days and they'll come back out free of charge to us if the problem wasn't fixed.

In the 3 years we used this service they made us wait 80 days before they OK'd a new stove and another week to send us a check so my family had no stove for 3 months even though their 1st repairman said it needed to be replaced due to its age... over 50 years. We have had 3 repairmen they sent out not do a thing to repair the broken item but we had to pay them a 60 dollar fee. In each case we called someone right after and in each case that repairman fixed the item immediately. They are not a company I will ever work with again. Do not use this company. It wastes your money.

We've been very pleased with First American. It was the home warranty given when we bought our home about seven years ago and we've always had good service from them so we've always stuck with them. I've called them and I have also done claims submission online and either way, it was very efficient and I've never had any problems - the manner of filing is very easy. We've always had our claims settled very quickly too, and the people they send seem to do a very good job. We actually called them back and had additional things done that are not under warranty, which is nice. Never had a problem with any of the people they sent to us, and their work quality is good.

I've never had an issue with First American's claims representative. They've been courteous and helpful. Same with the repair tech people, except for the plumbers. I had plumbing issues and it was the only time I was disappointed. I had a washer that failed and the tech couldn't fix it so First American replaced it. I've had a refrigerator breakdown and they came and fixed it. So far I have no problems with the repairs. They fixed the problem and resolved the issue.

I felt that the plumbers were too lazy to get up underneath the house and deal with the problem. They weren't able to get to the problem without having to tear down a wall, which I totally refused. I thought it was ridiculous, which is something I would've had to pay for. The problem was a drain on the tub. There's a crawlspace on the house and I don't know why they couldn't do it. It's still an issue that needs to be resolved. I don't think I'll go through them to have it fixed.

My furnace broke in December 2015 and it took them 3 weeks to fix it!! Now I am having the same problem. It is broken again and it is 29 degrees out during the day and I am told it's not an emergency and that I have to wait. I am a single mom with a young child and a pet in the home! The rep from First American treated me like I don't matter and like my problem is just that, my problem. And the service company treated me like I was annoying them. First American does not have your best interest at heart, even though I am paying them to help me and their service providers don't care about you either! Find another company!!!

I bought my home in September. In November, the dishwasher began to leak. I opened a claim, and a repair company was sent on 27 November. Two weeks later, First American notified me that another company was taking over. Shortly before company #2 arrived, company #1 called saying they had the parts and wanted to install them, but when they heard that First American had switched to company #2, company #1 cancelled. To clear up the confusion, I called First American. The customer service department had various answers ranging from "I don't know" to "we're assigning someone to your case and that person will contact you within 48 hours." No contact was ever made. In the meantime, First American sent me an email authorizing a replacement part which was not even a part that addressed the dishwasher leak.

Yesterday, I received a letter stating that First American was reviewing the problem but it would take 30 days! Today is January 18, 2016, and I have not had use of my dishwasher since mid-November 2015. I haven't found one person at First American who has had any knowledge or ability to help me. Contacting them by phone is an arduous process involving long waits on hold, listening to a tape repeatedly telling me I can handle my account online. However, the online information lists my claim as having been resolved, which it most definitely is not. This is a simple appliance repair, apparently too complicated for First American to handle. Did I mention they sent me a bill for the service? They did. I would never use this company again, and have recommended to the four real estate agents involved in the purchase of my home they find another company to recommend.

My broker suggested two home warranty companies, one of which was First American. They were less expensive, and I am fully satisfied with my experience with them. Submitting the claim has been very good, it was just that the company that was supposed to come and fix the heating problem was not available, so I had to phone First American and they gave me another company, which was very good at fixing the problem. The technician, who was the owner of the company, was very good. It was an old system and the problem was not simple. But he knew perfectly what was going on. Overall, it has been excellent with First American.

I've submitted claims to them and I've gotten the proper people to come out and take care of the problem. The quality of the work that their technicians have performed has been very good. The same can be said about their rep who looked up my most recent claim for my water softener. She told me, however, that according to my policy, it was not covered. I've been a customer of First American for almost 19 years and have had an occasional problem but generally good service. I've got one claim in that nobody has called me back on and wrote it off to the holidays, so I haven't bothered calling. And on another one, the guy came out and there was a problem and he was going to get back to me and hasn't. Both of those claims were placed right before Christmas time, so I've given a little leeway. I would have expected to hear something from somebody but that's not the typical experience. Usually, this much time doesn't lapse. I've always had good luck with the people that they've sent out and have been generally happy.

I've always had a home warranty but I changed to First American seven years ago when we moved here. But now, I'm thinking very seriously about changing after there has been absolutely no interest in helping me. My washing machine had quit working and was turned in honestly on the 14th of December. They had sent one person out who went through the whole thing and apparently he couldn't do it. So then they sent a second person out but they wouldn't do it because the first guy has left the machine with some of the parts open on it. And so finally today, the guys from the first contractor came out and they put the parts back on the machine.

Now we're sitting here saying, "What is the next step? When will they ever get the thing fixed?" We haven't heard what they're going to do next and I can go on for a week on the stories we've heard of why they can't do it. I just want somebody to come out. We're spending $25 to $30 a week on quarters in the Washateria. I can understand and sympathize with them with the problem, but all they're doing about it is wait and when I call them, they put me on hold and hang up on me. I can't talk to anybody.

Heat pump died over weekend (Saturday), so contacted First American, and sure enough the earliest they could send somebody out was Monday morning. Contractor came out as scheduled, and he was very pleasant, and perhaps the only redeeming part of this whole experience. Contractor diagnosed that the compressor was shot, so it would need to be replaced. First American authorized the repair then and there, yet failed to order the parts.

Only in following up two days later with them they realized that the order hadn't been filled out. They sent it out on the following Thursday. They proceeded to tell me that the parts should arrive on Tuesday or Wednesday of the following week. The following week I called on Tuesday to find out if it had arrived. It had not. I called on Wednesday. Still no word, so I asked for them to track the package. Customer associate said he would reach out to whomever was delivering the parts (Carrier, I believe) and follow up with a phone call / e-mail. That never happened.

I called Thursday and nobody could tell me where the parts were, but that the contractor should be out Friday. On Friday (today), I call again, and parts are still not delivered. No idea where they are. No further assistance can be provided on their part. I would NOT buy from First American again, if I had a choice. This whole ordeal has left me with a bad taste in my mouth and buyer's remorse. Look elsewhere for home warranty.

We've had First American ever since we moved into the house and we've been here for 10 years. This is the only house I've had it on too. When we bought the house, the bank told us about them. Since I'm not mechanically inclined, though, it's cheaper to put it in the hands of someone that knows how to use it. So far, I'm pleased with the service that I've had with First American. There has only been one time that I didn't get the service that I needed readily on hand. It was when my heater went out and it took them 10 days to put a new unit in my house. I was taking care of my firstborn grandson and the house was super cold. But other than that, I love it and the people who have been sent out have all been courteous and willing to help.

I'm absolutely appalled with them!! Our air broke June 13, 2015. And when we made the claim, they tried to avoid fixing it! They sent 4 companies out waiting on the easiest fix. Our house was over 95 degrees inside with our dogs and cats. They finally halfway fixed it on July 29, 2015. They were told by multiple companies it needed to be replaced. We have gone through 4 "case managers" with no real customer service. My husband asked a supervisor (Brian) if the home warranty company was just trying to rig it together. Brian the supervisor said yes. We both couldn't believe he actually said that!!

My husband asked him again, "are you seriously telling me you're trying to rig it together?" And Brian the supervisor said yes again. Then one case manager said it was approved to be replaced. But here we are, January 14, 2016, and still nothing. We have gotten a lawyer involved and everything. We were told it was being replaced. Our current case manager refuses to contact us back. We have called, e-mailed, and sent letters! We are at a loss for how to continue dealing with them.

First American was recommended to us by my realtor when we bought the house. I know that home warranty through them isn't as inclusive but at least it gives some protection to a homebuyer because there's always going to be something that goes wrong with the house whether it's new or old. Submitting a claim is an easy and relatively painless process. I was all over the phone with just yes or no answers.

The technicians they sent out were all great. A technician who came to my house was very thorough in checking everything out. I had a relative here waiting for him and being that I wasn't able to be here, he called me and let me know everything that was going on step by step. I got my issue resolved. We even told a family friend, whom we sold a house to, to get a home warranty from First American because we cannot guarantee everything in the house. And when they had an issue there, they loved the claim process too. I'm glad that First American has done right to us and to a friend of a family.

The homeowner I rent from has First American for appliances and it has been one continued bad experience after another. First it is ridiculously difficult to get a hold of someone and when you finally do, the service support is disgraceful. Second the majority of the companies they contract to fix appliances are unskilled labor that do not fix the appliances, but continue just to replace parts, well beyond the cost replacing the appliance. I've spent over 80 hrs on the phone and waiting for technicians just to fix the heater and it's been over a month since we first contacted First American.

When our stove control panel needed to be replaced (most people would just replace the 30 yr old stove), it took 6 visits, 2 temp sensor replacements and then when the technician came out to put the controller in, he said it was the wrong one. After he left we read the instructions and it was actually the correct replacement so we just did it ourselves and it's worked ever since. Bottom line this company is a complete rip off - you have to start over again with every technician visit, 95% of the technicians are untrained/skilled, and they will just continue to schedule visits and collect $65 every time without any concern for the client not having heater for over a month... UNACCEPTABLE.

We’ve been using First American since we moved into the house in 2014. They’ve always been really good. Anytime we ever had a problem they took care of it, and we’ve always had everything that needed to be repaired through them repaired. It was the home warranty that was already on the house when we purchased the house and we kept it. If we were dissatisfied we wouldn’t pick them and we would have gone with somebody else because you get a ton of people sending you requests, but we’re satisfied with them and even if the other price is lower, it doesn’t matter.

I usually call when I submit my claims, but I have also submitted them online and it was just as easy, and surprising to me, I did get a callback around the same time usually from the company itself. I usually get a call that day, unless it’s at the end of the day, then I get it the next morning or so. And then whoever the contractor is, they call within a day or so and I’m always given the phone number for them if I need them sooner, so I’m very happy.

The contractors that they sent were usually excellent although the last group was pretty weird. They had to come out three times, but that’s because we needed a part. And they thought they fixed it and they didn’t so they had to come back, and then that’s when they found out they need to order a part and then they had to come back for the last time. But always it’s a different person who came back, which was very difficult because how do they know the turnover. How do we know what they needed to do? But the last guy who came did an excellent job and he had everything fixed. There was one time though when a contractor changed our garbage disposal and our sprayer doesn’t work now. I think it's ‘cause I didn’t hook it up, but I haven’t complained.

I wanted to make sure that I had some kind of warranty on my appliances in case something happened to them. Through someone who had First American insurance, I was told about their experience with them and that it was a good one and gave me some examples, so I thought I might do the same thing. Submitting a claim to them is pretty easy, I call the claims representative and they would send somebody to look into it. I didn't have any kind of claim to fill out. If they fix it then that was it. I pay the fee and that was all. With the technician, I just tell them what was going on and they would see if they could fix it. It was great. And the quality of the work was good. I would definitely tell people to look into First American. It’s a very good product to have for your warranties on your appliances that you have.

Thirteen years ago, my realtor recommended First American and I've been carrying it ever since. It's very good most of the time except for one time when it was less than great - I had an inferior technician come that time. But the one I had for my last claim was fantastic - he knew what was wrong and also found something else wrong with the appliance as well as one more part. I was very reassured by that repair which I think was very well done. I've been very pleased with First American and for a single, old lady, it's really a godsend.

I usually call them rather than going online when submitting a claim and it's really quick. I'll tell them what's going on, they open up a claim then they tell me who they're assigning it to and tell me if I dont hear from them within a day, call them back, but I usually hear back from the contractor, and they take care of it. They come to the house and we pay them the $60 deductible then they'll tell me what the problem is and fix it. All the technicians that have come by have been good; We haven't had anybody that worked on our house that didn't do a good job and so I'm happy with them.

I wasn't happy with Fidelity. My second to my last move, I switched to First American which was a gift and recommendation from my realtor. I've been very blessed. My brother-in-law did not have good luck with them in Texas. I'm in California and we've had good experiences with them. We had two houses on First American. One was our second home which we now live in, and the first house we sold last year. I’ve had one for ten years and this house that we’re in now has been with them since 2008. There have been so many interactions with the contractors that First American used and all have been excellent except for one. The contractor didn’t work well with us. We asked to be put on a list where we would not have to deal with that contractor again and they were good about following through on it.

When we were at odds with a claim, we worked with the manager and the supervisor and it was resolved in a positive way for us. The supervisor that we had when we were living up in Oakland was okay but the gal that we work with down here really went out of her way to make everything work. So overall, we're very happy with First American. I've recommended them again to my brother-in-law. It's important to have a home warranty especially since products are not made to last forever these days.

Their automated phone system is a joke which makes me go through cycles of people only to wait on hold forever with typically zero solution. Without an ounce of exaggeration I can tell you that I have spent literally HOURS on the phone with them in hopes of finding resolution for simple issues like getting my ice maker fixed. After 3 months and 8 visits from 2 different dispatched appliance repair companies, my ice maker is still broken but they don't seem to care. They have no problem collecting my money though. Once this issue is resolved I'll be canceling my membership and finding someone new. Do yourself a favor and run as fast as you can away from First American!

I've had First American for 16 years now. The previous homeowner had it and I just kept it when I bought the house. And so far, it's been a positive experience. When something goes wrong in my house, I'm able to get it taken care of. It used to be easier to talk to somebody when submitting a claim, but everybody's online now so everything's automated. The process is easy. I had two breakdowns at the same time. I had trouble eventually getting in touch with Sears so I contacted First American and told them that I was having problems and the next day, I was able to get in touch with Sears.

For my dryer, it took two weeks before somebody got here but it was non-emergency anyway. Once he was here, he knew exactly what the problem was and had it fixed in 20 minutes. The other one was my hot water heater which was a little more frustrating. It happened to break down on a Saturday but the claim didn't even go to them on Monday, and then they get two days to respond from that day. And then when he first came out, he didn't have the right parts. So, it took longer than I wanted to get my hot water back online. But once he fixed it, it was good and it's still working. I'm satisfied with the quality of the work that has been done so I'm keeping and planning to use them again, and would obviously recommend them.

Anytime you purchase a house, it's good to have a home warranty because anything can come up. I went with First American as my home warranty provider because somebody who is evidently one of their customers told me about them and I've been with them now for about three years. The last time I used their home warranty, it was for the heating in my house about two months ago and it wasn't too good. Submitting the claim with them was good and First American did what they had to do. But I'm very dissatisfied with the contractor who came out.

The contractor that they have on their program called me and set up an appointment, but they didn't show up at the time that they said they were going to show up. When they came out, they investigated to see what my problem was, which was that my thermostat was out. So they had to order and get it. Then they told me that somebody was going to contact me with scheduling for them to come back out to do that and this took some days. I hadn't heard from them, so I called them and they put me on another schedule for somebody to come out. Again, they didn't show up when they said they were supposed to show up. But once the technician came to our home, he did his job and the quality of the work that he performed was good once he did it. Also, my interactions with him were good.

It's only that the contractor was not reliable with setting up appointments. They need to be prompt when they give you a time. It went up about two or three hours from when they were supposed to be there. They didn't show up until almost eight hours. It had me wondering why they weren't coming. I don't have a problem with their giving me a schedule. I'll work with whatever schedule they give me. I took off the days that they said they were coming. But whatever schedule they give me, they should do that. But if they've got a scheduled appointment to come and see someone to do something, and if they're not going to make it, then it's up to them to call and tell me that they're going to be running late and what time they're going to get there, not me calling them. They have to let the customer know.

We had a plumbing leak several weeks after we remodeled and moved into our property. The leak occurred in our master bathroom which drained into our kitchen causing significant damage. It was a strong flowing leak and we called First American for service. They unfortunately couldn't get a vendor out to our property for 2 days. They offered us to go to an outside vendor not on their list to handle the claim and stated we would get reimbursed with prior authorization from them for the work needed for completion. We followed all steps correctly and called to receive authorization, which was approved, provided the invoice and work print up to them as requested.

It has now been over 2 months since we sent them the paperwork and they still have yet to reimburse us over $500. Myself and my assistant have called numerous times to check on the claim and we continue to get the runaround and excuses why the claim has yet to be paid. This weekend we now received a letter stating they are now requesting the actual pipe that was replaced for evidence so the claim can be paid. That was thrown away several months ago when our insurance adjuster gave us the bid for clean up and build back. Their lack of professionalism has baffled me and I have used them before with other purchases and referred them to countless clients and never had an experience like this before. I am extremely disappointed and frustrated with their lack of service and the amount of time to settle this claim!

First American had the most comprehensive plans and it's quick submitting a claim with them. If it's something that's an emergency, it takes a few days. But the longest that I've waited for something to get fixed was a week. The contract mentions that I don't get to pick the technicians that come to our home. But I'd like to get to pick who I want to work with because there are some local people who would probably work with them that they don't use. They keep going to the same people.

Though it was good with First American, what I don't like is the policy that each individual company has, like Sears. If I have someone come out to take a look at something before they came to it, I usually have them evaluate it so I can get a part number. That way it makes it easier for me to help the technician when he actually does come out. Usually, depending on who I go with, if a person comes out and fixes the problem temporarily, then they're going to charge me the $65 needed to come out even though they didn't do anything because when they show up, there's nothing wrong with my appliance at the time, like with my refrigerator.

I had to wait over a week for my refrigerator to get repaired, so that leaves me without a refrigerator for a week. So I called someone else to temporarily fix it. When the Sears tech finally came out, although my refrigerator wasn't actually broken at the time, he was going to charge me that money anyway. That's not cool. If there’s a tech with me ahead of time and I already have the part number that I need, the tech should be able to fix it.

Two weeks later and after multiple unanswered calls to First American (after sitting on hold 30 minutes to an hour each time) we finally hired our own person to come in and fix the AC as we couldn't take being without it any longer. A full three and a half weeks after our first contractor showed up, a second called to set up an appointment. That was no longer needed.

TO make things even worse, First American attempted to charge us with a Service Fee for no SERVICES rendered! Since then, I have received multiple bills requesting payment, and this is AFTER I have spent hours on the phone with their supervisors being assured this service charge was coming off my account. Today, I have called for a third time and the supervisor I spoke with informed me that if they set up a service call, whether any work is ever done, and AFTER I spent cash out of my pocket after spending money on a warranty, I still owe the service fee. This is the worst customer service I have ever received and recommend to anyone looking for a home warranty that they look somewhere else.

I have been a customer of First American for over 11 years. They have always been a bit challenging to work with but have usually taken care of the situation. That appears no longer the case. We had a simple washer failure at the beginning of November that believe it or not is still unresolved. First, there was a back ordered part (not First Ams fault, but they never followed up either). Then the part did not take care of the problem. The tech called them and recommended a new washer. He also said it was approved and to call First Am for details. We did and were told that we would get a replacement washer, but that we would get a call next Wednesday (one week) as their procurement department only worked one day a week.

To no surprise, no call. We have since called almost every day and received no callback. YOU CAN'T SPEAK TO ANYONE BECAUSE THERE IS A 30 TO 57 MINUTE WAIT TIME!!! We have been given the name of a claim Supervisor, Nicole **, and her extension. I have repeated called and left messages, but no return call. I am now looking at a legal remedy for this situation. I would advise anyone looking for a home warranty company to look elsewhere. First Am is no longer a reputable company.

I have had First American for over 3 years now. In the past, my experiences have all been very positive and issues were resolved in a timely manner. The last two cases, not at all. I had someone out to clean my heater and they said that they could not as it was missing a valve and also there were cracks which would cause carbon monoxide. They said while they could fix the missing piece, the heater would fail inspection and it would be a waste to put the part on. I opened an issue with First American and they sent out a repairman to look at it. After seeing the information written by the previous contractor, he left and said he would submit it to FA. He also said we would be waiting a while as their "Real Customers" come first and the warranty people come last.

We had to get some space heaters as we had temps that dipped into the 20s and snow. After 2 weeks of going back and forth with FA (at least 5 calls all ending with, "We are waiting to get the report back from the vendor.") as to when the tech would be out, they finally said that the case had been closed and rejected because of a missing piece. I finally posted on their Facebook page and had someone get back to me. I explained the issue and they asked me to send it a copy of the contractor’s diagnosis and they would review and get back to me. That was on Nov 17. The only contact I have had from them was over a week ago when they said that they had the invoice and would review it. They said it would take 2-3 days. It is now day 6 and they have stopped responding to my inquiries.

The second issue was for an over-the-counter microwave. Due to the model, it needed to go through Sears. We had an appointment (2 weeks after the issue was submitted). We were supposed to have the tech come out between 12-4. At 4, we called and we're told that the window was now 6-9 pm... At 8:45 we called and they said that the tech could not make it today. I asked when they could be out and they said, “2 more weeks on Christmas Eve.” I said, "What about tomorrow?" They said, "Well people already have appointments for tomorrow." I said, "Well I had an appointment for TODAY and you failed to show." They finally came out on Dec 23 and the tech said he could not find the model in his computer so he could not order any parts. I asked, “What is the next step?” He shrugged his shoulders and said he didn't know but he could ask his dispatcher.

After he was in his truck for about 5 min, he just drove off without telling us anything. I have submitted two requests through the email system on FA site asking what is the status... both times I get messages saying that they will be in touch with me within 24 hours. It has now been 6 days. All of my inquires are being ignored. I used to say positive things about this company, but no more!

I’ve had three different technicians and they’ve all been very thorough. It’s all been good experiences.

And then two weeks ago, the pilot had gone out in my unit. I had a serviceman come out because I couldn’t get First American to come out quickly enough. He started looking around, taking his time to figure out what was going on, until he told me it wasn’t the pilot going out and that I needed a whole new unit. I almost had a heart attack because I can’t afford to buy a new unit. Then he pointed out that with my policy, I may be able to. And so I called First American and they replaced my unit. They sent the same serviceman out again to put in the new unit. He was courteous and dependable. I paid the installation fee on a whole new unit, and overall that was just a great experience. It was what I purchased the policy for.

We purchased a warranty from this company when we bought our house earlier this year. Only one of the three claims we have made on this warranty only one was satisfactorily resolved and that was a fix for our refrigerator. The second claim was to fix the dishwasher and a leaking spigot outside the house. The company they hired sent a man who stole the spigot off our neighbor's house to "fix" ours which was still leaking and crooked when he left. First American refused to investigate the matter and told my husband "we only have your word as to what happened." They also refused to hire a different contract to complete the work and told us to "work with" the contract who hired the thief to get the problem fixed.

That contractor refused to return our calls after we told them we did not want the same technician working on our house. We ended up hiring a local contractor suggested by our neighbor, who is a contractor (the same neighbor whose spigot was stolen). That local contract was able to fix the problem within 30 minutes. First American's contractor took more than an hour to diagnose and then "fix" the problem. When the weather turned cold, we noticed the steam heat furnace was not putting out enough heat. We called First American and told them specifically that it was a steam heat system. Their contractor sent someone who's never worked on one of these systems. He told us there was nothing he could do because the system was too small for the house?!

After messing with the system he left. For the next several weeks we heard popping noises from the system that were not there before the repair man came. My husband came home yesterday to find the furnace no longer working, no heat in below-freezing weather and the catchment basin full of water. First American responded that they couldn't get anyone out that night. Luckily we had lots of blankets and three space heaters to keep the bedroom warm. They said their technician would call us at 10 am today. My husband had to call them because the contractor never called. First American put him on hold for 20 minutes twice before they hung up on him, twice. In order to make sure we had heat tonight we had to call another local company to fix the situation and pay for the repair out of our own pocket, again. Needless to say, when our contract with First American expires in 60 days we will not be renewing it. We are also considering legal action.

Some of their contractors we worked with were excellent, like with the plumbing situation we had, and we had just called them directly recently because we had a warranty with them on something we had. But the most recent thing I had was with our pest control, and the particular contractor didn't show up until way after the time they told us they were going to because the person that came never got the information from his own company. We purchased our home in April 2013 and became First American Home Warranty customers at that time. On November 5th of this year, our dishwasher went out. We noticed an electrical burn smell and called to place a claim. It took them a week to get someone out to look at it. That repairman took the dishwasher apart and noticed that the computer board had burned up and stated that the unit needed to be replaced. It took First American about three weeks after this first repairman left to contact us. In fact, we had to contact them. They stated this breakdown in communication was due to the fact that we did not have a claims representative. However, they also stated that they had called and emailed, which was not true.

Finally, when we were assigned a claims representative, Candace, after our dishwasher now being out of order for three weeks (over Thanksgiving holidays), she stated that parts had been ordered to repair the dishwasher. We were under the impression that the unit was being replaced as it is a safety hazard. Anyhow, the first repairman came back out with the parts and again stated that the unit needed to be replaced as it is a fire hazard, and that the parts that were ordered didn't even address the problem. He also stated that if First American did decide to order the correct parts to repair the unit, that his company would not perform the repair as they would be liable in case the unit caught fire.

After that repairman, we waited an additional week to finally get someone, Mariano, on the phone (we have never heard from Candace again), he stated that they would need to get a second opinion. My husband had to force him to find a repairman that could come out before the week of Christmas. Finally, a second repairman came out on December 15th to tell us that our unit is a fire hazard and needs to be replaced. Both my husband and myself have called First American multiple times a day and have yet to speak with anyone regarding this matter. It's upsetting that they have not been helpful at all.

But she just told me that they were good so I said "Okay let me just try them." And they have really been good. However I had one time that I had a problem. It was my air conditioner and the way the company that they sent out to me were trying to do it was unfair and it wasn't right. We basically suffered for about two weeks of dealing with the company and First American because, for whatever reason, they couldn't get the understanding that I know what it is because I've had the problem tested, and the other service guy, which wasn't on the contract, had already told me what it was.

They wanted me to put a whole new system in. I'm talking about a whole new system. I understand that if the house was 20, 30 years old and then they'd tell me something like that. But all this stuff is only 10 years old. It's not in bad shape, it's in good shape. Even the guy that did the check and everything said, "Man, all this stuff is in great shape. Only thing you need is the condenser, which is the blower for the air condition."

They want to change every single thing and I said "No, we're not going to do that." So I had the company to come out, one of their supervisors and the guy, and I told him, "This is what it is right here." So he came up and said, "Okay, that is the problem." He said, "That’s all we’ll do. We would just change this out." I’m just saying I just thought Home Shield should've maybe tried to work with me or tried to find somebody else to take care of that, and they didn't. That's the only problem that I had and that only bad experience was not gonna change my thought process of First American being good.

I submitted a claim for my GE Refrigerator - water & ice keeps clogging. I was told by Sears the contractor the ice maker was a covered item, the water line was NOT! They said FABP would NOT replace the door because the INSULATION inside the door was causing the line to freeze. And since the insulation isn't a covered item he could not replace the door even if the ice maker was COVERED. So a covered item will not be repaired because the water line is inside the door!! They also said it doesn't make sense but it's their policy so I'll be stuck with a broken ice maker that should be repaired but won't because it's inside of the door surrounded by insulation!! It's a sham, even when I was told by the representative the UPGRADED premium package would cover what the basic wouldn't!!

They had satisfaction ratings from the people who already had their service, so I talked to my mom about it and she took it out. My wife filed a claim and she told me it was extremely easy. She called them and made an appointment. They called my wife back and told her who would be coming for her request and when. I was here when the technician came. He fixed the washing machine and it's working great. We paid our $65 co-pay and the technician went on his way. We were extremely satisfied with our first experience with First American.

He may be mad at me because I just came from Mexico but if you look at me I don't even look Latino. So, I kicked the guy out of the house because I have better service than that. He said, "I can do that. I have to modify this and modify that. And listen, I'm gonna do it for twelve fifty and that's including fifteen percent off." I said, "Oh, yeah. Wow. Thank you very much." So I called First American and I told them about it. I said, "I don't want service from that people. I'm going to go to Sears and buy tap and you guys pay me for that and I'll put it all myself. It will cost me sixty dollars to do that." That was a really bad experience. Very negative.

If I have a water problem or whatever it is, they have somebody call me back within 24 hours. The only problem I have with them is when you call their 1800 number, they ask you 5 or 6 questions. "Give us your 10 digit contract number." I tell them what it is. "I didn't get that." They don't seem to understand what I'm trying to say. It's all pre-recorded. And then finally, "We'll connect you to the next available representative," and then it goes through okay. I don't know if the problem is on my line or their line.

After 7 calls to the First American Home Buyers Protection company and hours of holding they got the vendor on the phone and vendor showed up for 15 minutes and left. The assessment was difficult to obtain after 4 phone calls to the vendor, they made a quick negligent assessment. Warranty company would not resolve issue and we dispatched another vendor after no avail.

Our vendor made a different assessment and stipulated if the previous vendor made that repair it would of only benefited the vendor dispatched. Warranty company is a sham. They have made it impossible to resolve issues in a timely matter and tend to hire shady contractors. I'm a property manager and I understand repairs and they have yet to repair the issue after dispatching another vendor. The claims manager has been quoting contract terms, instead of their responsibility we pay them for. The items needing repair are covered under their warranty. Yet they are playing delay games and confusion by their staff to address any issues.

I have had this warranty for 6 months now. The first time I used them for a garbage disposal problem it took time to get it resolved... Resolve but took quite some time. It was not urgent so I was ok waiting. This time it's a fridge that stopped working. Made a request online at around 5 pm (Nov 30) on Monday. Claim automatically got assigned to a contractor and I left messages for the contractor. Contractor calls me back on Thurs saying that he can come on Monday. So 1 week for him to come and do the diagnosis and all this with no fridge at home. I would think a fridge is something that needs to be taken care of sooner. But not sure what to say. I have left messages with them (First American) again and am waiting to see what they do. Not expecting a lot.

So they are probably ok to use as far as you are in no hurry to have the issue taken care of and I am assuming this is the case with all home warranty companies. I am assuming if I were to not have a warranty and call a contractor directly by paying full service fee (which I think is usually around $75 to $100 an hour here in Bay Area) then it would be faster. But then that is without warranty service from anyone.

I was able to talk directly to the owner of the plumbing company and he got a service on Friday when at first it did appear that it was going to be after the weekend before anybody could take care of it.

The technician that came out told me our 15-yr-old water heater needs desperately to be replaced but there is no way within the First American system to be able to do that. The anticipated life of the water heater is 8 to 10 years, and more than one of the techs has told me this and same problem has happened several times. So, when a claim was made, First American tried to get a hold of me, so I was like, "Why are you guys calling me? There’s nothing I can do on my end. I am so far away. Our experience with First American Home Buyers is good. Submitting a claim was straightforward and not too difficult. They have an online process but I have only called in my claims. The claim representative are confident and know what they're talking about and always satisfy my requests. All the technicians that came out from the company are experienced and their work is good. I've never had to have anybody come back to repeat what they've done. They give the best service from the time I called for service request until they come to my home and fix the part. I'm happy with the service. But if I was to recommend an improvement, I would have a process to have emergency work on a request. Although they do have it I don't believe their response is as fast as it could be.

My refrigerator is still working but the motor is making a terrible sound and I lost $200 worth of food the last time. He replaced some wiring and got it working again. But the motor is still making that sound and he did come back out. The guy said that he can't do anything about the motor or the compressor until it goes completely out. There's something wrong with it but they won't do anything and that upset me. It took them a week to get out here and get it fixed. When I complained, Conway Appliance called and they try to be nice.

The we had plumber was nice and I don't understand why I haven't heard back in three weeks. I talked to a lady about it and she still haven't done anything. The handle will not stay on and so when I had to get water, I had to use needle-nose pliers to move it back and forth. I've got Thanksgiving coming up and it makes it very difficult trying to cook and using needle-nose pliers to turn the sink water off and on. The bathtub is still broken, too. It's not dripping as bad as it was but he said he put the order in and will be coming back to fix it. With the money I pay, I don't think I should have to live like this.

I have recommended First American to a friend in my own neighborhood and she went with First American instead of Home Shield. Up until this situation, I've been satisfied but this is ridiculous. When I have to deal with stuff like this, my blood pressure goes up. I should not have to do this. That's why I've got First American so I won't have weird people coming in my house and I don't have to worry about these things. But now it seems to turn so I'm not very happy. I'm very dissatisfied. They'll need to come out here and do something.

A water pipe broke inside the wall of our kitchen sink and we called to get First American to send a plumber out to our home. They said they would have someone call us in three hours due to the severity of the problem. We never received a call, so we called the next day and were told that they could not find a contractor and no one would be able to come out for at least three days and they did not consider our situation an emergency because we could cut the water off. My husband called back and argued that this was indeed an emergency since we could not use water in our kitchen sink and they finally called AZ Plumbing and Air Conditioning to come out. They sent someone the next day from the plumbing company and it got worse from there.

The plumber assessed the issue and said it would mean cutting through the exterior wall (warranty doesn't cover this), but he would submit his report and someone would get back in touch with us in a few hours. No one ever got back in touch with us from the warranty company. We called the warranty company and was informed that the plumber had not submitted a report and therefore there was nothing that could be done. It was 7 pm at this time. Next day we called warranty company and was informed that they would cover the plumbing repair but we needed to create access. We told them we would create access and the plumber could come immediately.

Warranty company called AZ Plumbing to inform them. AZ Plumbing called us and said they would be sending someone out. No one ever came. Basically buying a home warranty is a joke! You get the runaround with contractors and if they can't find one you are just screwed. Both First American Home Warranty Company and AZ Plumber provides terrible service. I would never recommend wasting money on a home warranty.

I submit a claim over the phone and it's easy, but some of the providers are not professional, I found, the office part of the repair service not the actual repairman. The representatives I speak to are usually courteous. The issues that I have with the office of the technician are that they don't answer the phone and their voicemail is full. They turned in a bill saying I did not pay but I did. The day that the serviceman was out there, I paid it with my credit card. And it showed up on my credit card bill so I knew it was paid, but I didn't know that instead of Infinity Appliance it came out as something else, which was completely wrong to me. I called and asked if I got a bill from First American because I didn't know that anybody was complaining when it wasn't paid. When I got the letter from First American then I called Infinity Appliance, they said they have to get back to me.

I asked about three or four days. I had to keep trying to reach them until finally they said they'll have to get back to me. And then it was a couple of days until they finally got back to us and said, "yeah, that's one of our companies," which I kind of doubt because when I looked it up it says it was a music company or something. I think they just paid one of their bills with that credit card because the technician did not give me a receipt. He said that they would email it and they did, and I just put it away and didn't think any more about it. And then I finally remembered that and I took a copy of it and faxed it to First American along with a letter and the details of what had happened, and all the times I'd tried to call.

First American said they would get back to that company and find out what happened, but I never heard any more until I got the third letter saying "final notice". I told them, "apparently, you didn't reach this company and I know they're hard to reach..." And they said they will try, and they did get in touch with them and verified that I did pay the day that the serviceman was out there, but I thought that was totally non-professional of that company to claim to be Infinity Appliance and then when it comes out, it's a totally different name. And they didn't even show that I paid, apparently, the main company, until I sent in that receipt showing that they had. I'll be happy if this doesn't happen again. Still, I did post on Facebook that First American is a company that I recommend. It's been great every time before.

Friday I came home to find water slowly leaking through my basement ceiling. It just wouldn't stop, and it had already done significant damage to the ceiling and wall. I called First American who said due to continuing damage it would be declared emergency repair and someone would call me to schedule an appointment 1st thing Saturday morning. No one called, so eventually I called the plumbing company they had told me would be here. The company said they were not told it was an emergency and would not come out until Monday. It took me 5 hours to finally get through the automated waiting system to talk to someone at First American. The system said someone would call in an hour, but I kept getting blank calls from them where no one was on the other end.

During this time I figured out how to shut off all the water to the house to stop the leaking. Finally, they told me they would cancel that company and send another 1st thing Sunday morning. Sunday came and no call for an appointment. I called the new company, and they said they told First American they do not work weekends and wouldn't be out until sometime on Monday at the earliest. I called First American again. This time it only took about an hour. They told me they have no partners who work weekends and I would have to find one myself. They then said I'd have to pay the cost upfront and try to get reimbursed later with a max authorization of $125. A plumber would have to call and get permission to break that limit. Most charge that much just to drive to the house and tell you they can't do anything.

I asked First American if I used their plumbers if they could promise one for Monday morning, and the rep told me no even though the complaint was filed Friday. I have been 3 days without a shower. I cannot make food for my kids. I can't even flush the toilets. 3 days worth of waste in those. If I turn the water back on it will start damaging my basement again and I can't even get them to promise me a plumber on Monday. I took off work for it, but I don't exactly have a large savings of vacation days when no one shows up. As of the time I submitted this I have not had anyone at my house to look at the damage, so I do not yet have a receipt for "verified buyer." That is the whole problem. I can't get anyone to my house to do anything.

I opened a claim this year, which has been a headache because of their very long wait times when we call them. It took 30 minutes to be able to get to talk to someone because they didn't have enough staff. Then I’ve had three separate techs come out to manage the same problem, and another claim that was taken since June and is still not closed yet. So, that one is a problem. Otherwise, they’re great. They do good quality work, and are always trustworthy to get the job done. I've had their services for about eight years and it has always worked out for me.

Submitting a claim used to be very good, but recently, it has been extremely bad. It takes them forever to get somebody out because they didn't have enough people who could come out in a timely fashion and provide the service. We had an electrical issue that took over a week before we could get somebody out. It wasn't even eligible for a claim because it ended up being something completely different. Then, we had a similar issue on my rental property where one of the outside faucets was leaking and somebody came out and did the repair. Then they went to my personal residence where we had a similar issue, and they said, "No, it wasn't covered". In the end, I don't know what's going to be covered and what's not. I'm thinking about trying to switch now because I'm really frustrated with the level of service that we're getting.

Last year, I wanted to replace a faucet in my kitchen and they said, "No, we're not going to replace that. We're just going to give you this cheap faucet" -- I don't know what it was, it wasn't even what we had. I thought they were going to replace a like product. I'm wondering what's going to happen when something major like an AC or something big goes out, which is why I have First American. I would not recommend them. Even though nothing is repaired, I still have to pay the service fee. First American should at least waive the fee. They're not going to pay a claim.

It could be very expensive, so I need to be able to plan those things out. So far so good with First American. I’ve had some issues a couple of times with the policy not covering everything that I had expected. It just covers the minimum and so I'm left with spending a whole lot of money trying to fix whatever goes wrong. At one time, a technician came over and didn’t fix the problem properly. I’ve had issues with quick and very easy fixes and I’m not really happy with the work in terms of how it was done. It could have been fixed better. Also, when reaching out to them, the menu is pretty long before I get to input my data and it takes a while. But the customer service are pretty good and I’m satisfied with First American. When we bought the house, the previous owners did the home warranty for the first year and we kept it because it was an older house and we'd have issues soon. But when I have to call them, the longest I've ever had to hold was for an hour. And we had problems with some of their repair companies. They're more difficult to work with. First American say they screen contractors very carefully, but they don't. It's good that their claims representatives were courteous however a couple of times, they switched us over to another repair company. We had a claim on the pool and their contractor wouldn't call me back. Then we had an air conditioning problem and we ended up paying the repairmen cash because they told us we're in the low priority or 8-10 days for our unit to get fixed.

If you look at what we paid for the last ten years versus what we would have paid to repair it out of pocket, it would have break even. But when you add up the cost per month and then the cost for the deductible on the repairs, we spent $10,000 for ten years. Then if you add up everything we've had done, I'm not even sure it would have been $10,000. And there was also one time when First American won't approve the recommendation of the repairman to get a new outdoor unit for our air conditioner. But with an older house, with an older air conditioner, with a pool, we’ll keep First American just because if there’s something really major, we’ll be glad we’ve got it.

I called 0645 Friday, it's now WEDNESDAY and nothing. After several messages on the site, that your 'claims' specialist is supposed to contact you within 24 hrs, no.... I have KIDS, no fridge, a mess, and the holidays with food defrosted and they send me back to the mainline when I ask for a manager.

So sick of it, they eventually offered to let me find my own repair guy, then tell me he has to call, be on hold, get the runaround and get permission, and it can only be for $125 limit seriously? No one wants to fix my fridge for that amount and go through crap phone calls and the part is more than that so I would have to fight for that?! And hope to get reimbursed? Awful company. I don't care how they keep the decent reviews on the first page. You find my order #. They keep changing it.

Yesterday our garbage disposal died as did the hot water recirculating pump. I called First American at 8:30am to file the claim, received a call from a plumber, (a top plumbing company in the area) who arrived at 11:00, replaced the disposal with an identical product, left to get a part for the recirculating pump and had that replaced by 12:30pm. The pump that he replaced, according to on-line reviews, is a better one than the contractor originally installed. Can't ask for more than that.
