A/C unit went down 6/9/16 and we immediately submitted a claim to FAHW. After multiple contractors were assigned who were unqualified to work on our Carrier system, we finally had a diagnosis after a week. The motherboard had gone bad. FAHW of course refused to cover this part so we were $950 out of pocket at this point. After replacing the board, the unit still did not work and we were told that the compressor was bad.
After 2 weeks of calling daily to FAHW, they tell us they won't pay for it because it should still be under factory warranty. Carrier would not release a warranty part to the contractor they assigned so they had to get yet another contractor. He said that the entire outdoor unit would have to be replaced, which would have to go through FAHW and Carrier. We would still be expected to pay the labor. Now a week later neither FAHW or the contractor will return our calls. Now at 28 days without A/C with heat indices over 100 every day. I want to spread the word about FAHW to people online as well as our local realtors and mortgage brokers which we work closely with to make sure they stop recommending First American. Worst customer service and most dismissive people we have every dealt with.

We bought 1 year home warranty when we bought our house. This spring, we experienced water leaking in our basement. I called and file a claim. The company sent the plumber out. They took a look at the water pile and told me it wasn't plumbing issue and took my $65 check and left! I still have this issues after month. Then when I called my Ever Dry service they came and told me that I had a leak in my water pile! I called First American, they told me that they didn't have any report for the claim!?? And they couldn't do anything for me! And I had to open new claim and pay another $65 for the same issue! Also I was told it wasn't First American fault since they didn't know anything about the plumber!!!??? I DO NOT recommend this service!

Submitting a claim online was simple enough . The only problem I have is remembering the make and model of my appliances but I've bypassed that. The first time I did it I thought I had to know it then I went down a little bit more and it’s not necessarily so. So the first time wasn’t as straightforward as one would want.
Technicians come and do their job. When I had to get my AC replaced, they told me what was wrong with it and they couldn't fix it, then we just dealt with it. But the technicians have all been pleasant enough. When I had to get my oven replaced finding a replacement was fairly difficult as it's not being made anymore. The time was drawn out, I forgot about it and then First American wanted to close that claim. I did get the money for it but the money didn't cover the actual cost of the oven because they purchase everything wholesale. When we do it retail it just doesn't compute, there's a difference there.

I advise caution when dealing with these folks. We paid monthly fees for more than 4 years. There was usually red tape / bureaucracy to deal with, and oftentimes the repair service provided was slow and mediocre. We recently canceled the contract after having an emergency service claim rejected for what seemed to be an arbitrary, capricious, and unreasonable basis. I suggest that anyone considering First American to take the monthly premiums and set them aside in an emergency repair fund. You will save money in the long run and have the flexibility to get repairs done when they are needed, using contractors that are known and reliable.

I called First American when my dishwasher wasn't working, and they came out, looked at it, and said, "You need a new one". Then, they brought a new one out. I've been with them for eight years and a half and they are prompt. They take care of things within two days, and the service is great. I recommend them. People here have companies that don’t stand behind what they say. And I tell them, “Well, mine does!”

First American is very affordable and it’s been great with problems such as our air conditioner. I haven’t had any problems submitting a claim - it’s very easy. Their reps were always courteous. They’ve been great and I enjoy working with them. We’ve had a couple of problems with some of the technicians though, but when I called back to the person I talked to about the claim, they were resolved very quickly.

My realtor recommended First American to me. She had dealt with them before and gave a very high recommendation. I followed her advice and I've been with First American for about four or five years now. When I first bought my home or my condo, there were appliances that I didn't know what condition they were in since I didn't buy those appliances. So, I felt better about having a warranty because of that.
Submitting a claim was a pretty smooth and easy process. I called the number that's listed and things get done pretty quickly. I haven't had any problems. I've submitted several claims already and every time I've submitted a claim, it's worked out. The claims rep always took care of my problems and all the issues have been resolved within a very timely manner. The technicians have been really good. They have always contacted me within 24 hours like they said. And they have always taken care of the problem and scheduling appointments with them is very easy, too. First American provide a very good service and the quality of the work is great.

First AM had changed the contractor to Sears. The Sears technician came promptly at the appointed time and completed the repair. I am thoroughly impressed with professional quality of Sears technicians
First American should maintain contractors of Sears quality so that customers will get better service.

This company was recommended by my Title Company, Hexter Fair First American for my home warranty needs. Hence I had purchased their home warranty protection for my home. I had raised my first complaint on June 25, 2016 regarding my microwave repair. Within two hours the company had assigned a contractor and sent me an email confirmation. I was very happy with the prompt response of the company.
I waited for two days but the contractor (Any All Appliance Repair) had not called me to fix the appointment for repair. I called him and left couple of voicemails but he did not returned my calls. I had called First American customer service on June 28, 2016 explaining to them that the contractor had not called me and neither replied to my calls. Then the executive had informed me that he shall escalate the problem to their customer resolution expert and they shall call me within 24 hours with a solution. As promised their resolution expert had called me on June 29, 2016 explaining that all other contractors could not able to give any appointment and informed me that Any All Appliance Repair will come to my home on July 1, 2016 (between 2 to 3 PM). I had confirmed the appointment with the resolution expert.
I took half a day leave on July 1 to meet the technician of Any All Appliance Repair and he did not showed up. As usual he did not responded to my calls. I just wasted my entire afternoon waiting for this technician to turn up. On July 2, 2016 I spent nearly 2 hours (9 AM to 11 AM) with First American customer service rep explaining the problem (3 calls to their call center and every time I need to explain the whole story) and strangely no executive could able to give a proper answer on why the technician had not honored his appointment. Now the customer care executive had set up a new appointment for repair of my microwave with Sears on July 5th between 1 to 5 PM.
I am seriously disappointed with this entire process of First Am in handling my service request. They need to seriously look into their contractor list and review what sort of customer service are they providing to their customers since any bad service by them will affect the image of First Am and not the contractor. Hope First Am shall look into this complaint seriously and shall respond with their action plan to ensure that future customers are not affected like me.

When we bought our house, it was a short sale. The people that did the closing recommended First American Home Buyers Protection and we had to purchase that on our own. We've been with them for three years since we wanted to make sure that things would be covered because we couldn't really afford to go buy new stuff. We had to go through talking to people when we submitted claims to them, but it was usually quick. Their technicians all charge us $60 and do what they can. Their work had been good, though. When we had some problems with the pipe of our septic tank, First American Home Buyers Protection told us that it wasn't covered, so we had to get that done by ourselves. Other than that, First American is doing all right and we've had a good experience with them.

Long story short: I have First American Home Warranty, FAHW with premium service to include coverage of my heating and air. My furnace was replaced and I had to pay a $65 service fee plus I owe $875 to the heating company. Per a local heating and air company the estimated cost of replacing a 66,000BTU Payne PG8JAA024070 gas furnace (which is what I have), is about $1,600. Considering I pay a monthly insurance fee, a service call fee and now have to pay almost $900, I would have been better off not having a home warranty policy and pay for this out of pocket.
Here are the details of my experience: I submitted a claim because my heater wasn't working properly. The heating company came out to assess the problem and recommended I replace the furnace. They submitted their paperwork to First American Home Warranty and after about a week they sent me an email to let me know the replacement was approved and furnace was ordered. The day the heating company replaced the furnace they also emailed me an invoice showing I owe $875, which is for various materials and "modifications". Shouldn't I be presented with an estimate before anyone approves the services? I think FAHW skipped this step. I messaged them but they haven't replied. I'd like to know what their procedures are so I know whether or not they did me wrong. Please contact me to resolve this.

Twice I have been given incorrect information over the phone by an associate. The first time I was told an electrical fixture was covered, then as I proceeded with my claim, was told that it was not. Today, I was told my garbage disposal was covered but would require a second opinion from another technician. I asked to speak to a manager who, after a long wait time, told me that was not the case but that the process could still take upwards of a couple of weeks to get the tech out ($60 service call fee of course), then order the parts to fix or replace once they receive his diagnosis.
Maybe for a large very expensive repair, this warranty is worthwhile but for the most part I have found they make it as inconvenient and painful as possible to get work done. The electrician sent out for my first issue never even got back to the company until numerous calls were made asking to please submit his paperwork. Save your money and do not use this home warranty company.

We've been loyal customers of First American since 2003 when we purchased our home. In the past claims have been submitted and taken care of in a timely manner. Our current claim however, involving a plumbing leak resulting in flooding our finished basement has been completely botched. We are on day 7 since submitting our claim. Day 3 of a 2nd contractor being assigned and no appointment has been scheduled to resolve the matter. Unfortunately, the smell of standing water and whatever might be growing is too much for us to live in our home and it appears we might have to pay someone to come do the job out of pocket before any additional permanent damages are done. Seriously considering other home warranty options as this has been more of a hassle than benefit.

The absolute worst company I have ever dealt with. This is their game... send incompetent technicians, charge you $75-85 to tell you the problem is something unrelated and not covered. They hope that you, the home owner, don't have a clue about basic electrical work, plumbing, or really any common sense. Next, they bounce you around from customer service rep to customer service rep, each one contradicting the other on what is actually covered. Mind you - they provide you with a contract so you can see. And they hope you're not smart enough to read it.
Then! When you fight the claim, they tell you that you need to hire a contractor, provide 3 written estimates of what the problem is... And submit via fax to them. Don't fax them. Ever. They will confirm receipt of the fax and it mysteriously disappears (this happened 2-3 times on 3 claims...) Now! They'll send out another contractor. But only after you argue for 2 months. But guess what? They expect you to pay them $75/85 as well. If by some miracle this contractor isn't in their pocket, they confirm the problem. Accept the job, and then realize how little First American is willing to pay.
What happens next? They add a line in the repair description about it touching against something they don't cover... And force you to take the payout! Which isn't even enough to cover the issue yet alone the repairs needed from the shifty contractors. First American customer service says they'll send you out a Check. Fine. Follow up with them 2 weeks later? They have no idea what you're talking about, another 2 week process. Then they want to short the Checks less the cost of both of the contractors they sent out... AFTER you already paid them. Sneaky sneaky.
You make 3 days worth of phone calls and emails to your assigned rep with no response... But you're smart and put a read receipt on them... So you know it's been reviewed. They never call or email back. You get a supervisor. They don't care. They're continuing to double bill you for the contractors. You get a customer advocacy team... After 4 days, 6 emails later? You finally get the refund adjusted... But they still want to bill you double for the first incompetent contractor.
Another round of phone calls and emails, and you get that fee back - but they want to charge you $10 for some unknown reason, you finally give up after that point. This happened for 4/4 claims. Customer service has no clue what they are doing. Claims specialists never return calls or emails in hopes you give up. And it takes 4 months to resolve an issue. Absolute worst company to deal with.

I'm with First American for 8 years. They were good until recently. Lately it has gone bad. This time was the worst. My garbage disposal wasn't working. I took 4 calls to start a claim. The call quality was too bad. Then I filed claim online. Got confirmation but did not get a call from service company (Perfect Plumbing Sewer and Drain) for 2 days. When I called they finally located service request and gave appt two days later. Then they didn't show up for appointment. They did not answer phone call either. Called First American again and after two hours of wait/talk they found another contractor and rescheduled after two more days. They wouldn't let me hire a contractor who would come sooner. Their service is too bad. Totally inconsiderate. I will cancel the service after the issue is fixed.

When we bought our house ten years ago, our realtor gave us First American Home Buyers Protection the first year. It seemed like a good thing so we decided to stay with them. Our experience in filing claims with them has been good. Their reps were very good and most of their technicians have been very efficient. I had a bit of a problem though with the communication with one or two of the contractors over the years but First American was always very helpful in resolving any problems. So far, their work has been satisfactory and I'm very satisfied with them. The company has been very helpful, efficient and their communication level is very good.

I agree with other negative reviewers that sub-par companies are dispatched to do band-aid repairs that do not last. I have not had the same representative from First American during the process and have cannot even estimate the number of phone calls back and forth with multiple reps and no resolution. My family has had no refrigerator for 3 months. In the heat of the summer we have no cold anything. I never get the same rep, solution, or answer. They call me, I call the people I am instructed to call, and I am told by others it is not my place to make calls. First American is no help. You are better off with no insurance as at least if I did not have the coverage I would have just solved my own problem. At this point I have paid for repairs that did not work and wasted countless hours on the phone. No return calls, reimbursements, or fixed appliance. Go elsewhere for your Home Warranty needs.

I bought my house in April 2016 and within 60 days there was a leak from the second floor bathroom to the first floor walkway. I called them for the first time and it was 22 minutes before I talked to someone. They stated they would fix the leak but will not fix the damages that the leak caused. They sent out a plumbing company 5 days later. They put in 4 holes in my ceiling and I paid my 65 fee and they said it's a gasket. They did not fix the holes after they left so I called First American back and they stated when they receive the report from the plumbing company they will fix the holes.
When my kids came home from vacation a week later and went to take a bath the first floor flooded to the basement!!! I call First American back and after another 20 minute wait for an employee (Louis) employee I. D ** states that I need to fill out paper work and they will investigate the problem. I stated "who is coming here now to fix this" and he stated "no one". "Are you kidding me?" I asked them to man up and fix this today because it's their fault for sending a company out who obviously did not do their job. He stated "I'm sorry but no". So please do not use this company. They are garbage. Save it and find someone who looks out for the home buyer and not behind tape.

Had I written this review 3 weeks ago I would have given them top rating. Each time we called, they sent good technicians and handled the claim quickly. Three weeks ago our a/c went out. The tech said the unit needed replacing. Here we are 3 weeks later and no a/c. We are unable to reach the company and the tech said they have complaints about the service for a/c repair constantly. It's in the upper 90's with heat index well into the 100's and we have been without a/c for 3 weeks and we're told the a/c is still in route to the repair business. We will be dropping their contract if we ever receive our a/c. Don't be fooled... for quick inexpensive repairs they are good, but for big repairs they seem to have no time limit.

Submitting a claim with First American is very easy. I go into the web or call their number to make the complaint and then one or two days later, somebody calls back, and contractor was assigned. I only had one problem with one technician but that got resolved. However, the company is in business to do the cheapest possible repair that they can do and sometimes I feel that the quality of the actual products they used to do the repair could've been better. But I'm happy with First American. The whole experience with them is very easy.

I have a problem with a recent claim with First American Home Buyers Protection. They sent out a plumber and as he was replacing a filter in the shower, he pulled so hard resulting to loose pipes. At first, we thought maybe it was just air in the lines, but it’s not. Every time we flush the toilet or run the shower, it just goes, “Rumm, rumm, rumm,”. So, I had to call them back. They sent another plumber but he said unless we tear out the walls, they can’t fix those loose pipes. So right now, we haven't had anything fixed yet and we don’t know where the phone number is to the first guy. Other than this, usually, with most of our claims, the contractors come out here and fix stuff and we’re good with it.

We have a couple of properties that are out of state from where we live. And so, having someone that I could call with problems when something came up was really something I wanted. Looking for a home warranty turned out to be a very good thing that I did. The previous company I was using found some reason not to help us every time something happened. We have a duplex in Oklahoma City and the water heater ruptured and they wouldn't cover it because they found sediment in the water tank. I told them that we're insuring three properties with them and if they don't wanna do them anymore then just continue that way. I called around. I found out that American Home Shield doesn't cover tankless water heaters which we have in our house and they find every reason not to take care of a claim. Then I found First American on the internet and I went with them.
Submitting a claim with First American was a pretty easy process. I prefer to talk to somebody rather than do it online. My mother is in one of the houses and she really can't deal with this stuff. She's in her late 70s and when the air conditioning went out, she can't handle a lot of heat. They jumped on it and made it a priority. They got right on it so I'm very happy with them.
Just recently, one of the tenants in our duplex said that his dishwasher wasn't working because the inside had worn away. First American came out and said it needed to be replaced. They ordered a new one and when they came out to install it, they said that the supply line valve was not new enough. They won't touch it until we replace the supply line. They came back out after we got a plumber to fix the supply line for the dishwasher and then they said that the kitchen tile is too high and they can't get it out of there. So they had to take the dishwasher back twice because the tenant wouldn't leave them in the middle of their kitchen. It would be great if they would look at the whole thing one time when they're doing an install like that and determine what we need to do ahead of time.
The technicians have been pretty good, although I've noticed a pattern where they will typically find some reason where there's things that need to be done that I have to pay for in addition to what was covered. That seems to be almost the standard so I'm a little wary of that. But other than that, everybody's been friendly and easy to work with. They show up when they say they're gonna show up and they're excellent.

It's common sense for whoever has the home to have a home warranty on it too. I talked with a couple of home warranty providers and chose the one with better options and more options. I went with First American and submitting a claim with them was an easy process. I like the way they do it but sometimes it's getting with the representative and talking to them is tough because I would stay on the line forever. But they're good. In a day or two maximum, we get a phone call from the contractor.
However, I had a bad experience with one contractor. He came into my house, looked then ran off. I wasn't home and he dropped one on my wife. Then he ran his mouth and used an "F" word. I told First American to not send anymore that contractor to my house. But most of the other technicians look nice and white, come out clean-cut and are good people which made me feel better. All the people around me knew we are happy with the home warranty we have. I have recommended it and a few of them went with the same company.

It took me a month to get a part for my dryer. The first company that came was absolutely ridiculous and I suggest they take them off the list. A guy came in and told me it was a heating element, which I told him that’s what it was when I called. Then he said, "Well, I don't have one on my truck so it's gonna take a while." So, he leaves and a week later, calls and says he got the part, and schedules me for another week in advance. At that point, I called my rep and she called another company and had it fixed. I had a water heater checked and I also had water in the pane upstairs. When I called, they got right on it, and they sent somebody out. I had something else done and everything was right up to par.
When I call, I speak to an actual representative. Their reps are real good. I don't want to fool with the automated system. All I have are initials for my name and that's a problem with an automated system. Moreover, the technicians have always been nice and fair. I have FAHB. I've used them for 3 different appliances, 2/3 calls the first person they sent out failed. One was the garbage disposal. The guy "fixed" it. Then in like 32 days it went out again. Because it was more than 30 days, I had to pay again. It cost me more than if I didn't have a warranty and just replaced the thing. Second fail was my air conditioner. It wasn't cooling, so I had them send someone out. The guy was supposed to be here from 12-4pm. After me calling twice, he finally showed up at 8pm! He said I was low on freon. I knew it had to be more than that seeing as the unit had been serviced less than a yr ago. So I called my own people that I trust. Even though it's only been a week since the FAHB person came out, I am low on freon again! My guy said I have a leaky coil and honestly the whole unit needs to be replaced.
I called FAHB to see if I could have my guy do it and bill them. They said there was no way. My only choice is to have them send someone back out of their choosing. Which if it like previous issues, they will just patch it up and in 30 days, I'll be paying out of my pocket again. Not to mention the time I have to take off work every time! I'm 100% that after they send someone out and they don't fix the problem, I will be canceling my HBW and taking that $500 and putting it towards my guy fixing to replace it. I would rather pay to have my guy replace it and know he will do it right, than to keep wasting my time and money.

There was no compensation offered other than "you can buy a portable cooling unit and we'll reimburse you $150." I have a 1800 sq ft house. That won't do anything for my family of 6, including an elder with a disability, a newborn and 2 small children. Now our family has to pay out of pocket for a hotel room to accommodate our family due to FAHB's negligence. As soon as this claim is complete, I will be cancelling our service and will be looking for a new warranty service that actually does what they say. Our family places maybe 1 claim a year. $55/month * 5.5 years = over $3,000 in premiums paid. All for nothing. BUYER BEWARE. I'll be posting this review on the Better Business Bureau and every other social media platform available.

I called First American and reported as an emergency. They did not relay the message to a plumbing company as an emergency. They came the following day. I had water on the first floor of my home. First American did nothing about the situation. The plumbing company had no resolution and did absolutely nothing.

The people from First American come do their work and they do it right. My wife's the one that calls them to request for things. The claims process has gone smoothly for her. The technicians did quality work and we’ve had no problem in that regard. They did what they said they were gonna do. We had a little challenge, but it wasn’t the repair person’s fault. The factory supplier sent in the wrong part and so we had to order another. They did a good job, we’ve been very happy and we recommend it to a friend.

Not only has my service request not been resolved after First American picked an incompetent contractor, they closed the service request before it was completed because it never was. Maybe they do this to keep their numbers in order. Either way, my Claims "Specialist" will not return my emails and I've called multiple times with no response. I was put on hold for 45 minutes only to receive an email stating they will call me in 24 hours (while I was still on hold). So long story short, it's been nearly 3 months and my refrigerator and dishwasher are still broke. Wouldn't recommend this company to anyone.

Have three claims submitted and no resolution. The technician they send have no idea about what they are talking. First claim - In one bathroom cold was not coming in one tap. Technician resolution: water from fresh water supply is blocked, so not covered by "First American Home Buyers Protection." Called a local plumber, came same day said the flask is blocked changed it and everything is working (had to pay from pocket). "First American Home Buyers Protection" did not refund me, rather were sending my case to collector agency for not paying them for the visit. The technician said he cannot fix and I got it fixed and paid for something I am already paying you guys, still I am the one should be paying.
Second Claim - washer was running the last cycle. Technician resolution : there is some ball bearing that need to be changed, so place ordered for that. One week later the part came. Received call from technician that he is there and started asking questions about where the washer was. I told him in cabinet, then he realizes he needs two people for this job. They give me appointment for 4 days later. He comes in opens the machine and then tells me that there is one more part that is broken, he need to order that part too. Resolution : Today it is 3 weeks I still have no resolution on my washer. I have a one year old baby at home, we are washing clothes at local laundry.
Third Claim: At same time my water heater broke. Technician resolution : First technician comes and just says he cannot fix it. Some other company is assigned, they visit and say that drum needs to be replaced. So I called the "First American Home Buyers Protection" to verify who is going to buy and they said they have not heard back from the technician yet so they cannot say anything, so told me that today is Monday afternoon and I should call back on Wednesday afternoon so they can let me know what is going on my claim.

They’ll inform me that the contractor will call me and if within 24 hours they haven't, I have the option to contact the contractor (since First American will give me the contractor's number) or we could call back First American. I have a feeling that they do a good job screening whoever it is they contract because I've not had anybody that I've not been happy with that has come out and done the work.
I had a contractor come out a couple of times for our pool, change out our pumps and repair the piping problem. I had coolers where the controllers had gone bad and the contractors replaced it. The technicians were knowledgeable. However, a lot of times I get technicians that are doing a lot of troubleshooting that they sometimes feel they don't need to do but it may have meant they're not educated. I've been around construction all my life and have not had somebody come in and do shoddy stuff. They're professional and they get it done. Once or twice an item has failed right after within a day of the repair and I'll call it in, and they'll reopen it. I don't have to pay the 60 something bucks again which has been more than fair.

This is our second year with First American. The first year was ok, but we only had one claim with them and it was a plumbing claim that was fine. Earlier this week, we filed a claim (actually for the same issue with our kitchen sink) and after not hearing from the assigned contractor for over two days, after several attempts from both the warranty company and ourselves, we called to request a new contractor. They tried to contact the plumbing company again without success and finally agreed to give us a new contractor. The second contractor (who was assigned as an emergency plumbing service) called around 12 and then we couldn't get ahold of them after 5 attempts at calling that same day.
Apparently a plumber they gave us after upgrading our situation to an emergency closes at 4 and is closed on the weekends. I called the warranty company AGAIN that afternoon, and got very poor customer service saying they did everything they were supposed to do on their end and that the plumbers confirmed they would be at our house first thing the next morning (but did not have a time window). After finally getting ahold of the plumbers that morning, they gave us a 12-4 window (which is impossible as we cleared our morning and have work and other responsibilities) and when that didn't work they said they could come the following Monday because they were closed on the weekend and it was a Friday.
When we called the warranty company AGAIN because at this point we just have to find our own plumber given our short time window, the supervisor expressed that this was not an emergency and that they would not be reimbursing an outside contractor. It should not take more than 5 days and hours of phone calls and complaints to get a relatively simple plumbing issue resolved. This is totally unacceptable and tells me that they just find the cheapest and lowest quality contractors they can find to save themselves money. I am so frustrated and feeling like this is a huge scam.

A couple of things happened in the last two years since we bought our home and First American sent people out when they said they would. Those people were professional, courteous, and got everything resolved. There were no hitches or problems. The most recent claim had nothing to do with the tech that came out. The service guy was great and he fixed the burners on the stove top, but there was something wrong with the wiring and the stove would come on by itself.
We'd wake up in the middle of the night, smelling something burning and that was really scary. It's the main burner, the biggest one for cooking. There was no temperature on it if we turn it on low and it's glowing red. I burned a couple of things recently because something's still wrong with it. We don't know what it is and we're trying not to use it as much. It's not a fire hazard anymore so that's the important thing, but I'll be calling them to come out again. But other than that, it's been good every time and people have always been nice and helpful when I call. First American is a good company as they've always been very professional and efficient. Was told they did not have the labor cost (now it's going to be included) and could not give me the cash out option amount. They were going to check with the contractor for the labor cost. Was told I would get an email later on Tuesday confirming amount - didn't receive email.
Called on Wednesday and received the cash option amount of $584. The contractor and another HVAC contractor both estimated $1300. Was told reason it was much less is due to they receive discounts on parts and labor costs. I looked on the web and found the part (which was the wrong part to cost $824). I talked to a manager who gave me the same wrong part number they used to calculate parts cost. I truly believe they never had the right part. It wasn’t assigned to anybody until I called back and got a live person on the line.
The person who came out was very knowledgeable and informative. He walked in my house and walked out because there was really nothing wrong. He showed me what was going on and what happened. Water was leaking into my downstairs bathroom from upstairs. Our shower curtain liner was on the outside of the tub, water ran down the liner, the crack by the tub and the tub was right over our vent and all the water goes through the vent. So if the liner had been in the tub, I wouldn’t have a need to call. I appreciated all of that and we paid him $65 for his knowledge. Placing a repair request is very simple and a return call from the contractor comes quickly. From that point on it is downhill. The personnel that you get to answer the phone for inquiries are not well trained and have bad attitudes. I have practically begged for assistance in resolving a dryer issue. The first time it took a month to get it fixed because they and the contractor failed to place the order and then failed to come out with the part without harassment from me.
I am now back in the same situation with the dryer again. Once again, the part did not get ordered until I called and ask what was the delay. Then there was no sense of customer service to say "I am sorry for the oversight, etc." You can send an email and they will respond with the same scripted response. I had requested to not have the same company come out to my house again and when they set it up, guess what, same company. Having a home warranty seemed like a good idea in the event there’d be a problem. When I bought the house, First American was mentioned so I proceeded with them. Submitting a claim was relatively simple and easy but when I was having this problem not getting addressed adequately from the repair agency, it was really frustrating because the reps said different things would happen. I also had another representative come saying they’d basically start again.
The technicians were professional and came on time. Within the scope of their troubleshooting procedures, the guy did what was expected. At the same time, he came out again and I explained some of the problems that were intermittent. My girlfriend had a problem very similar with the thermostat but he didn’t check it. Only in the third time that he came out did he acknowledge that it’s probably a thermostat problem.
I contacted some other repair agencies locally, and I was going to pay out of pocket for them to fix it because my house is in escrow now. I wanted to make sure that everything was working and in order. It's pretty cold at night and if the heater isn't going on and the thermostat says it is on that's not a pleasure. It's gone a bunch of times so I thought they would explore other options.
One of the guys I spoke to from the service agency that First American sent was fine. Then I had to speak to another person and in a roundabout way, he was doing what he could to talk me into buying a new furnace. He said, “Well, you know, these home-protecting companies don’t really approach things as comprehensibly as they could and we’ll be happy to show you a new furnace.” I told him the first thing is I need to be assured what the problem is if it's the furnace or the thermostat because a guy came out after I called First American another time and he replaced the thermostat and everything’s fine and dandy. I didn’t deal with that agency again because of my experience, but when they repaired it, it was going well.
The repair agency did it properly but it took them three times to correct the problem. The third time, I called and they said they weren’t going to come out. So I spoke to First American and then the company called me in a blinking of an eye.

They listen and the questions that they ask me tells me that they know a lot about their work and their product, which to me, is very inviting. It makes me feel very safe and comfortable.
They seemed like a company that can satisfy and take care of my issues as they come. When my stove broke down, they replaced it without any issue, and I'm very happy. I filed a claim for my garage door opener recently. The gentleman came out and took care of it. He wanted to replace the unit but I don't know what he did because it started working again. Prior to that, they assigned me to a second opinion because they didn't want to replace it at this time. They wanted to see if they could fix the shortage that it had. It turned out that the only problem I had was that the garage company never contacted me. I even called them, and they never showed up. I don't blame First American for people that they work with as far as that and also, it was 200 miles away so I really understood them.
But when the gentleman took care of it, it has been working ever since so I left it alone. In fact, I talked to the young lady that was assigned to it, and I told her that I'm still happy with First American. I told her not to worry about it and she asked me to repeat that over the phone so it could be recorded and then she can close the claim. First American was offered to us when we bought the house and we've stayed with them for about four years now for security. Also, our HVAC equipment is old and we thought we'd stick with them until we need to replace that equipment. However, it requires a lot of nagging to get stuff done right with them. The trades that they have coming to the house don't come out with the mindset to fix anything. They come out with the mindset to collect their money, do a band-aid repair the best they can then get out of there. So it requires a number of service calls back to the house to get something actually done. And we had this happen twice when they came out and caused damage. They always scream, "We're not liable to repair that damage." But that's understood, that's what warranty companies do. Having a warranty program, you just have to understand that's how it's going to be.
For the most part, their work is from a band-aid to bad, not from a band-aid to good. Plus, one of the things that I don't like about it is when I've had numbers for companies, like air conditioning companies, and I've had three or four of them at the house, I don't have an option as a homeowner placing a claim to tell them who I want coming back to my house. They set it up with whoever they set it up with and then I have to call and beg them to send the company that I want. But it's part of the game, too. I'm not dissatisfied but I don't love them.

I have two homes - both with First American Home Buyers Warranty. I have never been so disappointed! First home, a rental, plumber came to fix garbage disposal 3 times and now it is still broken. Will they ever replace it? Plumber at my house - needed 4 visits to get a flusher fixed (subsequently replaced by the cheapest and ugliest they could get). Valve on a faucet was "rigged" with clay to create a stop - really?!! Kitchen faucet was fixed and overturned, now I have water spraying out of the sink. And this is the result after 4 visits! Appliance repair - Range has a gas leak and oven doesn't keep heat. Over 3 months and still not fixed. Taken hours and hours off of work to meet with one technician after another - still not fixed. A gas leak!!! They really need to hire competent companies or make good on what they say and replace what needs to be replaced.

My experience with First American has been fair so far. The First American reps have always been friendly, and the technicians are always great. Their work has also always been great. All my claims have been properly taken care of, however, they claim to be 24 hours, but when something happens on the weekends, you can’t get anything done until Monday or Tuesday. Unfortunately, most of the things in my house went out on the weekend. They took my claim and wrote it up, but nobody could reach me mostly until Monday. In addition, most of my claims are done in a timely fashion, but sometimes, if I have something defective and after they came to see what it is and they don’t have parts, it might take a day or two. First American is one of the decent warranty companies in town, they’re not just timely sometimes.

I’ve been with First American for 12 years and have stayed with them because it's convenient. They get the technicians that I need who get my claims fixed. I don’t have to go trying to figure out who’s who. I call and tell First American the problem, they look and tell me who the contractor is, and usually the contractor calls me within the next day then they'd come out and we’d get the ball rolling.
This one claim I have has been really tricky because it took a while to get it fixed. This was probably one of the worst experiences in my 12 years with First American. The contractors came out May 30th and they came back out today and fixed the problem. But 15 minutes ago, I had to call them again and they came back out because something broke and the air conditioner still wasn’t working. I had to leave for work but I hope that when I come home tonight, it'll be working.
I thought at first it was the technician that caused the delay, but it was First American because when I called mid-June (June 6 or 7) since I hadn't heard anything, they said they'll check the technician's report and found that the technician did give one. They said the technician would call me and come out once they figured out how much money will be spent. I didn’t hear anything, so I called back. The guy looked and said there was no report. I said I just called two days ago. So they had to do it again then called me back and said the report was there, May 31st, and they must have lost it. Then they lost it again, so it was an issue with First American. The report took three to four times to get done and it’s what delayed the whole thing. It was a frustrating process because it’s always been smooth with my other claims. One time bad out of 12 years, I can deal with it. I know First American is great.

First American was recommended by our realtor and it's always a good experience when you call their claims representative. With the last claim for the air handler for the airconditioning, First American ended up having to send five different contractors out. It was the way that the house was built and the way that it was in there that they didn't want to do the work for they either weren't capable of doing it or they didn't wanna do it for the price that First American would pay them. But the main thing is it finally got resolved. When we have some problems, it always gets resolved.

First American is the best. I've been with them for at least 13 years and my service is outstanding. The value of the product I buy is excellent and it beats the others in the market. There's never any BS, but there's never any trouble getting the claim. Everybody is professional and they strive to meet the customers' needs. When the contractors show up, I'm sitting there ready with the deductible amount. But that's a reasonable expectation on their part as a service provider because I've said in my contract that I won't pay them when they get here and then they'd go from there.
It's an easy process to complain with them and in my recent claim, I've had more input than I ever had. It solidified what I knew about and had experienced with First American. They asked me to critique, go over my experience and they did what they said they were going to do. That's probably the biggest thing in a home warranty industry that gets the consumers - if somebody doesn't stand by their word, that they'd do what they say they're going to do.
My house, when we bought it, was aged. We live in East Texas, it's the deep South so it's hot early in the year and it stays hot late in the year. And our heating and air unit put in a lot of hours running. We've made a claim just about every year since we've been in this house because that unit has been here since '78. When we made the claim this year and the technician talked to First American, they didn't hem or haw. They said it's time to replace everything and it's going to cost me x number of dollars since it's not a cost in the contract. It was between $450 and $500 and that's a reasonable expectation on my part, too. There are things that have to be done that aren't covered in the contract but I've got all new hardware in my heating and cooling unit now and First American never griped or anything.
They did an excellent job and were very polite, punctual and called before they came. They explained all the work that they were going to do and after the fact explained what they did. That's great because I wasn't there, my wife was and she was trying to understand what went on so that she can tell me. And I don't care, I just wanted it fixed. The coverage is pretty good and I'm very happy with First American and my experience with them.

After first calling in the claim, 1st American assigned a company that did not work on microwave ovens, therefore I had to contact the company again to refile another claim. After searching the area, they were able to find someone to come out to check my oven. I was told the company that found the problem would not be fixing or replacing the oven but the company that did not work on microwaves would be replacing the oven. This did not take place. The initial company that found the problem had to come back out to install the new oven after it was shipped to my address. We had the oven in our home for approximately a week before the original company came back out to install it. It should not have taken a month to fix/replace the appliance.

They replaced my microwave with no questions because the service people told them it was defective. I also had a technician out here for the air conditioner, and everybody has been very professional in telling us everything that’s wrong with things and helping us out.
The only downside about the whole thing is the time that it took to get a technician out here. I understand it takes 24 to 48 hours for somebody to call us back. I ended up having to call them and they were getting ready to call me, but then it took them five days. They couldn’t get out here, so that was not acceptable. They send completely incompetent people who are quick to collect their $60.00 whether they fix, diagnose or replace or not. In my case nothing gets fixed or replaced properly or equal to the covered item. They are impossible to deal with over the phone. After paying them over $5000 dollars in monthly fees they have only served to waste my time and have fixed nothing.
If you work or have little time, this company will cost you far more than monthly payments and wasted service fees. You will wait around all day and have no resolve. First American works with their contractors to provide the worst possible service and replaces your high end appliances with the lowest cost, lowest quality item made. You then elect to take a payment of 10% of what the actual replacement would be to just get something. Even that will be a nightmare. Try cancelling - another nightmare.
This company is abusive to the customer and I can't believe they are in business. It's the auto renewal, I'm sure. You would be far ahead to NOT have this service and the realtors should be informed. I asked First American to send another plumber to finish the job.
First American sent Abe's Plumbing (WO#**) on 4/11/16. Abe's was at the house for over 1-1/2 hours, couldn't clear the blockage, and recommended installing a clean-out for $485.00. I then called a plumber I had successfully used in the past, MM Plumbing, who quickly located an existing clean out, cleared the blockage, and charged me $90.00.
On April 16th, I requested in writing a full refund from First American. I have since called four times (4/27, 5/12, 5/17, 6/1). They gave me an assignment number for the work order and then told me who would be calling me within how much, and then they gave me their phone number in case they didn’t call. We had one incident with our washing machine where it was an older washer and they didn’t seem to be able to have a handle on fixing it, and it took an inordinate amount of time to have it fixed. We bought a new house and being responsible for the air conditioning, washer and dryer, refrigerator, fans, and everything else, it seemed smart to have a home warranty on top of the homeowners insurance. If something goes wrong with the homeowners insurance, it has such a big deductible that you have to come forth with before anything can be done that it puts you in a financial strap, whereas this is very reasonable.
I had another home warranty service before and had a disagreement with them. I researched First American and when I called and spoke with them, they made it very easy on me. They said that as long as my policy is paid and I have something that is covered, then they will take care of the problem one way or the other. They're not going to demand to see paperwork from something that's 10 years old to show that I've done any kind of maintenance. They'll either fix or replace it. That's easier compared to the other company that I had wanted that wanted us to show proof that we've kept our air conditioning records done, which I didn't want.
Submitting a claim is very easy. I could do it online but I still like that human touch and I generally just call in. The reps are always very polite and efficient. They take a quick look at my policy, tell me my work order number and what company is going to be calling me to go to the house within a few days, then let me know if I haven't heard from them within two business days. They do what they’re supposed to do.
We had different problems with something, so the tech has been out here several times. We're on a first name basis and he does a great job. He's very polite and professional. I've never had a problem with anything. Whether it's plumbing, electrical, or anything else, First American takes care of it and we're perfectly happy. The technician doesn't necessarily want to do the work, doesn't want to check something else while he's sitting even though we've got a claim in, takes too long to get out here, and doesn't eventually come or brings the wrong parts.
If we have trouble with a contractor, there should be a better way to flag that on our file that we never want to see that person again. We have multiple contracts with First American and we can get a contractor flagged on one contract, but we put in a claim on another contract and we get the same idiot out there again. A/C evap coil was leaking and required repair. This is supposedly covered by the First American warranty (that cost me $612/yr). The contractor gave me the cost of the 'noncovered' costs to complete the job as $1154. I knew immediately that this was not a fair price. I called an independent contractor to confirm the issue. He did confirm the diagnosis to be correct. The total cost for him to completely repair plus some small extras is $1250. I called First American to complain but they have no concern as to what the contractors they select to send out may charge for 'uncovered costs'. First American offers only $168 as the fair cash out to have another contractor perform the repair.
Hence, you are left with Hopson's choice - over pay for the unscrupulous contractors that First Warranty will send, or pay for the repair yourself. Please note that it appears First Warranty is fully aware of these issues and are completely 'lawyered up' to preclude any recourse you may hope to have. Ask customer service if it is OK to record any information they are giving you. Ask customer service to provide any information they are giving you in written form. They will assure you they have all conversations documented but they will not provide any to you.

That was their reason, which is no good reason other than lousy customer service. I could understand if there was a cost difference, but there was NO cost difference. There was no reason for them not to switch the color for me when the cost was the same for them regardless, and of course the "cash out" option was only $883.52 (which wasn't enough to buy one and have my old one hauled off). AHA... Therein lies the problem... Technicians couldn't replace the new unit, as it was too big (deep) for the opening AND it needed a new venting hookup. When I called and explained this to FAHW, they say "it's customers responsibility to make do measuring to be ensure a proper fit. All FAHW can do is offer a similar style... Customer should not make assumption that it will fit." Now, would it not be reasonable to assume that if a company that was in the business of repairing/replacing appliances told an ordinary layperson that "this is quite similar" that the ordinary person would assume it was going to fit??? So if they were in the auto insurance business they'd replace a Cadillac engine with a Kia engine because they each make a car run?

Then when I bought my condo, I got them again. When I bought a house for my parents, I got First American for them as well. It's very easy to submit a claim which I usually do over the phone. I've always had very brief and to the point conversations with their sales rep. I've only had one claim at the condo and one at my home, but anytime I've called, they told me which contractor was going to contact me and these contractors contacted me either that day or the next. Then, the technicians who come are very professional and perform excellent work. It's been exceptional service by First American.

I never complain but the service we have received from this company has been so bad I feel like I need to warn people. We have a refrigerator/freezer that started leaking. First American sent repairmen to fix the problem five times and every time they said the problem was fixed and then the leaking started again. After the third time we had to replace our flooring and subflooring due to all of the damage at a cost of over $3,000. Then it started leaking again (we were told the third time if it happened again they would replace it). We explained that this would make the 4th repair on the same problem and that we had to replace our floor because of this issue and could not afford to replace the flooring again. They sent another repairman who said it was fixed and again it started leaking again. On this fifth time calling for the same problem I told them that 5 times for the same problem was enough and we needed a new unit.
They just kept telling me they would just keep fixing it until it would not run at all and it didn't matter that is was causing secondary damage. I spent over two hours on the phone trying to speak with a manager and was told they would not let me speak with a manager. They then told me to hire my own contractor and pay him for a second opinion and they might think about it. We have been paying them our premiums for years and have now spent about as much on service call deductibles that we could have bought two new units. This is hands down the worst customer service I have ever received. They not only did not help...five times over, they cost us an extra $3,000 and have been extremely rude on top of that. Not only would I never recommend them to anyone...I will do my best to let everyone know what kind of company they are and how unfairly they treat their long time customers.

I file claims over the phone and it's usually pretty easy. I have had a little trouble over the years but nothing that hasn't been worked out through the district managers' help. My husband usually does submit the claims because he's usually home, and the claims process has been positive as far as I know. Generally speaking, the technicians have been good. The only argument I would have is specific to the Sears technicians that came to the house, and not so much a problem with First American who took care of their end of it. We have a refrigerator ice maker that has been replaced. It's on its third time now and the first couple of times, they used renovated parts which didn't last very long. I usually never review much of anything but this company has performed so poorly, I needed to share. I did some research trying to find a home warranty company but obviously not enough. I have been a member of First Amer for less than a year. The first claim was for my oven keypad. The problem was fixed but if I never called the repair people, it would still not be fixed. And when I did call to ask when they were coming back to fix the problem, the repair person did not ever recall when he came to my house to diagnose the issue the first time. Truly mind boggling. The most recent issue was for my 21 year old washer which had a small leak. Again, if I never called the assigned repair person, they would have never come out. The repair person was clueless and misdiagnosed the issue 3 separate times. The final time he came out, he flooded my laundry room which leaked into the basement.
But the best part is the FAWC wanted nothing to do with the damage. They told me they are not responsible for contractor error. They finally sent out a very qualified repair person who told me the machine is not fixable and was never fixable and that the first repairman should have known this. I accepted a cash out offer from FAWC but they actually took a second co-pay out of my cash out offer. SO I basically paid two co-pays when FAWC should have covered the second co-pay to the second repairman. I believe that is in the contract that I am responsible for one copay. But, whenever I try to speak to somebody, they don't speak very good English and cannot help me. This company is a joke. They were quick to sell me the warranty with well spoken people but when it comes time for service or help, the company changes it's tune and you are dealing with people with no authority whatsoever.

Recently filed a claim with First American Home Warranty. The technician that showed up stated that only the evaporator coil needed to be replaced on my unit. First American decided that they wanted to replace the whole Air Handler which would cost me an additional $700 out of pocket expense for non covered costs. When I specifically asked a FAHW supervisor why they wouldn't just replace the evaporator coil the answer was that it was more cost effective for them to replace the air handler!!! How does that make sense?
On top of that dealing with the contractor admin office who were extremely rude and flat out would not explain the extra costs associated with the installation. I then asked FAHW to send a new contractor and they stated that regardless of who they sent then would only replace the entire Air Handler. In essence the true repair only costs me about $50 out of pocket yet FAHW had decided that it is better to replace entire Air Handler (unnecessary to fix problem) with an out of pocket expense for me of $700. I do not recommend anybody choosing a company who does not look out for their customers first!!! BEWARE!!!

The service of First American is a good deal. When you have a super expensive refrigerator go down and you get it covered for $50 or whatever the rate is, it's well worth it. It's super easy to submit a claim with them over the phone. It's usually very easy and pleasant with the claims reps. The technicians are often knowledgeable because we live in an old house and have premium appliances that only a few people are able to work on. The technicians that have come out are generally of two kinds: those dealing with appliances like kitchen appliances, and those dealing with plans like HVAC, the heating and cooling systems.
For the plan side of the house, the technicians that have come out are awesome, and the work they have done has been spot on and perfect most of the time. So if somebody comes out to fix our furnace, it's always correct, and they always know what they're doing and how to represent us back to the insurer. But on the appliance side, it's totally hit or miss. I just went through a process of having a technician come out who knew nothing about a dishwasher or the make and model of it, and ordered a bunch of parts that took an extra long time. Then a second technician came out who actually knew what he was looking at and sent all those parts back, and fixed our dishwasher in about five minutes. But that's not First American's fault necessarily, but just what consumers have to deal with.

So I called to First American Home Buyers Protection explaining situation and requested to have another contractor but they didn't accept. First American gave me another option that I can cash out with the amount is $237.38 which they paid for. Part is $162.38 and labor is $135 ($237.38 is the amount after it's deducted $60 service fee), but I actually can get only about $172 after they minus extra amount about $65 that they said whatever fee that I don't understand. More important here, labor for replace an evaporator coil is only $135. It takes at least 4 hours for 2 people to finish the job. This makes no sense for 2 AC license people work in 4 hours to be paid $135.
I called to First American many times but no one can give me a right reason except they keep transfer me from departments to other departments so I was on the phone for hours but I couldn't find a final answer for this. They just only say it is what it is because of my non-cover cost (the cost of my contract $445 for 1 year). I claimed on February but till May, the issues haven't solve yet. My daughter had First American and liked it. She thought it was fantastic, and I thought it was great. I've had no issues with them, and it was very easy when I filed a claim. I've had a couple of claims and every time, their reps have been courteous in taking care of them and answered all questions. A couple of the people First American used have not been the best, but we got through it. However, the last one, Vantage Plumbing, was the worst. I'd never use them again.
They came out three times to determine if the hot water heater was bad and First American approved for a new one. We were painting our house when the guys from Vantage Plumbing came. Instead of calling their people to help take the hot water heater down and put the new one up, they grabbed my painters without my knowledge and used them to haul the heater up and down. When I asked for a credit for that, they said no along with a few other things. I don’t appreciate people taking my workers and using them so they can save money.

First American Home Buyers Protection was recommended to us when we bought our house. It’s been easy to file claims with them, and my interactions with the technicians that they've sent out have been great. I had one poor experience last year, but my most recent experience was fantastic. The gentleman that was sent out for my heating and air conditioning did a fantastic job. It was very difficult for him to find out exactly what the issue was. He actually spent several hours, ended up having to leave, and came back the next day, which was a Saturday morning and spent the entire day there getting it fixed. It was incredible and helpful.

When I bought the home, the real estate agent we bought it from said it's practice to give a year of their coverage as part of the closing, and that's where we got First American. I submitted a claim over the phone. However, there were a couple of times when I was sure I had trouble understanding what was being asked because of the rep's accent, plus I have a little bit of hearing loss. Nonetheless, everybody stayed pleasant, and it went good. The technician was professional. He showed up, looked at the refrigerator, and told me right there that what he had to replace won't be available because of the age of the refrigerator. Apparently, it was something they weren't even allowed to work on anymore, so it was declared a loss after a quick inspection. Even so, it was a good experience, and I didn't have any problems.

My only complaint would be sometimes when I have an emergency situation, it always happens on a Friday after 5, and they can't get somebody out in an emergency and I have to wait until Monday. But First American is a great thing. I pay for the warranty and usually have something go wrong in my house. That makes it worth the money. We like the peace of mind that it gives.

When we bought a home, someone recommended First American's service. And then two years ago, one of our friends from Athens, Texas was touting them and I said, “Oh, I already use that service.” Submitting a claim has been good and easy. I like being able to do it on the internet and they respond the next day with letting me know that it’s filed. Some usually take a couple of days for the contractor to call us so fortunately, we haven’t had any emergency situation.
Once, they assigned us to a technician that didn’t work on a particular brand of washer. He called the service people at First American and they got me somebody else. There was a pretty good delay from that standpoint. They have a $60,000 fee that we cover apparently and some of the other services that are out there we’re obligated to pay a higher service fee. Consequently, it may be that they’re having to get service companies that would agree with that lower $65 fee and it might be affecting their selection of contractors.

I bought the house ten years ago and first had a company that our real estate people suggested. I didn't like the way it went so I decided to call and get another one. I went online, looked up, and went with First American. I liked the way they'd cover everything that we needed covered. I also had a pool at the house that I'm constantly having problems with and I wanted to find a company that's going to take care of it. I found that First American covers it so it was a lot easier then and I've stuck with them ever since.
We've had outstanding technicians. I wouldn't change or do anything any differently than what they've done because they've been wonderful. The two or three times that I've had them out here, they've been real patient about explaining everything. Even the last guy that was out here talked to me a little about what he was doing and why he was doing it. He also said that I can have them as many times out here as I need them and that they're happy to come out. So I was excited to find out that I don't have to wait until something actually breaks. I can call them and they will come out and take care of the problem.
We've had absolutely wonderful experiences with First American. I'm a little older and it's hard sometimes for me to find all the right little buttons and stuff when I file a claim. If anything changes, it's difficult for me to figure out what I need to do to straighten it out. I'm ecstatic about being able to know that I can just go online, click a button and First American will take care of me. I also love the service that they give because I don't have to wait more than two or three days at the most. If I have an emergency, they will send people right out here.

This company offered me home warranty for my home. They asked what type of A/C unit I have and I told them heat pump. Well I had problems with my unit and it took them 4 days to get someone to call me. When that company called they scheduled an appointment and I took off work. The company then called me 30 minutes before they were supposed to be there and asked for directions. When I have them directions, they stated they wouldn't service my area. They told me I have to call the warranty company back. So I did. After about 15 times of calling and getting hung up on, I finally reached sometime. They told me that is the only company they have for my area and they would escalate my ticket to their manager and they would call back within 4 hours. 6 hours passed, no phone call.
I call back again, to find out they cancelled my ticket without calling me because they said they don't cover my type of unit (even though it was discussed during me getting the warranty). Come to find out, they input the wrong type of unit and had to create another work order. Went through the process again, to find out they have no one in my area to service my unit. I was so upset I told them to cancel my contract because I was still within my 30 day grace period. They had no problem with that and told me I have to send an email stating I want to cancel and I would be refunded in 48 hours. So I did and received a confirmation letter. That has been over a week with no reimbursement. I called today to find out that it is still in a cancellation process. He informed me that it could take up to 30 days for me to get my money back. This is unacceptable! Please don't get caught in this company's trap!

I call them up, and they listen to what my problem is and they find the appropriate workman to take care of it. They provided the service that they said they would as far as covering those particular appliances and home areas that I have listed under the plan. They have been very responsive relative to securing the appropriate workman to take care of whatever problem I call them about, and their technicians have been very professional. They did what needed to be done to correct the problem.
So far, their first attempts to correct any problem we've had with our appliances were successful. But, I think that they certainly could maintain their price level as opposed to going up as they have done, because there are other companies out there that provide similar services for a lower price than what they do. If they want to stay competitive, they need to take a look at that.

On Feb 2, 2016 we called about our heater failing. First contractor came out, reviewed the heater and claimed it was working fine, but that our vents were cutting off airflow. So I bought and replaced the filter of the intake vent. This did not solve the problem. Contractor returned and then determined it was a rusty Igniter element. He left, ordered the part, and after I handled all the calls, finally was authorized to replace it. It seemed that the contractor and AHW never seem to communicate in a timely manner. So with the new igniter, and 3rd visit, and now the contractor says the housing is leaking (our heater is on the roof so rainfall caused the Igniter to rust). On top of that the contractor claims he is not authorized to work on Hydronic Heaters.
So now 2nd HVAC firm comes out, inspects the unit, determines a new unit is needed and leaves. Weeks go by and we learn the unit is so dated they don't make a replacement. Though the contractor makes a second visit with a partner to explore other options? So after I host 5 visits, we learn from AHW that they would like to propose a cash payout, of $736.25. A new heater (and ours is a Heater/AC combo unit) runs closer to 5000.00 alone, and could easily be double that.
So why do I have a home insurance plan who doesn't seem to care that for 3 months I HAVE NO HEAT, and running space heaters and gas fireplaces to stay warm, and then low balls us with a $736 cash out. While I understand that the heater unit was not brand new, and maybe their algorithm for cash out factors in depreciation, what I don't understand is how this company has no provisions for a situation where the customer is spending $$ to heat a home, while this firm and their contractors do nothing. I don't know where to go at this point. I called their 800 line, and got nowhere. I even asked this case to be escalated, and nothing has happened. The irony is that this all occurred at the time our annual insurance policy with them was due for renewal - and I got more calls from their sales people about renewing than I did about how our heater situation was going.

First American customer service is pretty good I should say. Their response time and customer care is very good. But the deal starts to break once the contractors step in. They exploit every bit of it and unfortunately FA plays into it. We had an issue with the garage door that the motor stopped working. We made a claim and they had me schedule an appointment with a contractor (Garage Door Medics). The contractor comes in, doesn't even touches a thing and says the spring is broken and it costs me $499 and it will not be covered by the insurance. I asked him about the motor and his response is "Please give me 5 minutes while I talk to somebody". He talks to somebody on the phone and comes back and says the motor can be replaced and that could be covered but 499 is absolutely out of my pocket plus the $65 visiting fees. I didn't like the response or could trust the guy, hence I contacted First American and asked for a second opinion.
The next day a new contractor from Exit Garage Door turns up and he touched a little and said the spring's broken and it would cost me $425. I started asking him questions on what needs to be replaced and he said he has to get on a phone call first and left for his truck. Returns after 30 mins and says 425 for the spring, etc and for the motor it's $350. This is my very hard-earned money and I think I have a right to ask any questions before I pay them my money. And just because I asked for a second opinion First American declined my claim. Do we call this fair business practices? Is this the way to handle a customer. Do I have to sell kidneys to afford a contractor? I feel helpless and exploited and probably I don't have a choice but to pay them $1000 or perhaps $10000 to get the garage door fixed. Very disappointed.

I called them and I was told he'd be here before four o’clock. Nobody called and he never came. The next day, the second technician came together with the one that was supposed to come the first day. I chased him away. I told him he let me wait without calling to tell me he couldn't make it. Then the second technician tried to fix the dishwasher. He replaced every possible part in the machine but he could not get it to work.
I had to call First American again. I talked to somebody that barely spoke English again. Every time, I had to go through the same baloney.
