A client referred me to First American and so far, with all the times that we've called them they've had very nice people come and take care of the problems. In my most recent claim which was for the air conditioner, the guy was very courteous and polite. He came very late on the day but was very prompt. The work seems fine as the AC is working now.

I'm a real estate agent so I refer and sign people up for home warranties and so, I decided to get one myself. I have other choices but because my friend used First American and her daughter also had them in her house, I went with them as well. However, she didn’t really have a good experience with it because she forgot that she had the insurance and she paid for her air conditioner even without calling them. NevertheIess, I submitted a claim for my water heater and it was excellent. They did a great job and were fast. I didn’t really go down there and looked at it but it seems okay. Every time I’ve ever had any kind of problems, they come right out and take care of it. It’s great and I’ve been very happy with them.

We've had First American for more than 18 years and they've been awesome. A lot of the claim submission is automated, but then, it'll tell me who's going to be the contractor and where the information is going to go. They’ll inform me that the contractor will call me and if within 24 hours they haven't, I have the option to contact the contractor (since First American will give me the contractor's number) or we could call back First American. I have a feeling that they do a good job screening whoever it is they contract because I've not had anybody that I've not been happy with that has come out and done the work.
I had a contractor come out a couple of times for our pool, change out our pumps and repair the piping problem. I had coolers where the controllers had gone bad and the contractors replaced it. The technicians were knowledgeable. However, a lot of times I get technicians that are doing a lot of troubleshooting that they sometimes feel they don't need to do but it may have meant they're not educated. I've been around construction all my life and have not had somebody come in and do shoddy stuff. They're professional and they get it done. Once or twice an item has failed right after within a day of the repair and I'll call it in, and they'll reopen it. I don't have to pay the 60 something bucks again which has been more than fair.

When we first bought the house, we got First American and we like the service they have so we decided to keep going with them. I needed repairs for the AC and the refrigerator and it was easy to file the claims. I first call them up, they answer in the first few minutes then keep up with me, tell me when they're gonna show up the first time, call me up in the morning and call me back when everything's done. Their claims reps were very nice and the techs were professional. They called, let us know when they were about to show up and when they got here, they called up, told us what was going on and then fixed the issue. First American has very good service and I will stay with them for a while.

This is our second year with First American. The first year was ok, but we only had one claim with them and it was a plumbing claim that was fine. Earlier this week, we filed a claim (actually for the same issue with our kitchen sink) and after not hearing from the assigned contractor for over two days, after several attempts from both the warranty company and ourselves, we called to request a new contractor. They tried to contact the plumbing company again without success and finally agreed to give us a new contractor. The second contractor (who was assigned as an emergency plumbing service) called around 12 and then we couldn't get ahold of them after 5 attempts at calling that same day.
Apparently a plumber they gave us after upgrading our situation to an emergency closes at 4 and is closed on the weekends. I called the warranty company AGAIN that afternoon, and got very poor customer service saying they did everything they were supposed to do on their end and that the plumbers confirmed they would be at our house first thing the next morning (but did not have a time window). After finally getting ahold of the plumbers that morning, they gave us a 12-4 window (which is impossible as we cleared our morning and have work and other responsibilities) and when that didn't work they said they could come the following Monday because they were closed on the weekend and it was a Friday.
When we called the warranty company AGAIN because at this point we just have to find our own plumber given our short time window, the supervisor expressed that this was not an emergency and that they would not be reimbursing an outside contractor. It should not take more than 5 days and hours of phone calls and complaints to get a relatively simple plumbing issue resolved. This is totally unacceptable and tells me that they just find the cheapest and lowest quality contractors they can find to save themselves money. I am so frustrated and feeling like this is a huge scam.

First American came with the house I bought back in 2007 and I kept them since. I’ve been able to do submit a claim online and they’ve been quick to respond. The reps were very professional and understanding. They do what they can to meet whatever need I’ve got at the time so I’ve been very happy. The technicians they always send out are also very professional and thorough. I haven’t had any issues about the quality of the work done. No call-backs or anything like that. I’ve been really pleased with First American.

A couple of things happened in the last two years since we bought our home and First American sent people out when they said they would. Those people were professional, courteous, and got everything resolved. There were no hitches or problems. The most recent claim had nothing to do with the tech that came out. The service guy was great and he fixed the burners on the stove top, but there was something wrong with the wiring and the stove would come on by itself.
We'd wake up in the middle of the night, smelling something burning and that was really scary. It's the main burner, the biggest one for cooking. There was no temperature on it if we turn it on low and it's glowing red. I burned a couple of things recently because something's still wrong with it. We don't know what it is and we're trying not to use it as much. It's not a fire hazard anymore so that's the important thing, but I'll be calling them to come out again. But other than that, it's been good every time and people have always been nice and helpful when I call. First American is a good company as they've always been very professional and efficient. We'll be staying with them.

Submitted claim on Saturday, contractor arrived and submitted report on Tuesday. Replacement part was ordered on Saturday, was told on Monday wrong part was ordered. Requested a cash out option and was told labor would not be part of the cash out option. On Tuesday called back to confirm cash out amount due to they did not know the part number or cost. Was told they did not have the labor cost (now it's going to be included) and could not give me the cash out option amount. They were going to check with the contractor for the labor cost. Was told I would get an email later on Tuesday confirming amount - didn't receive email.
Called on Wednesday and received the cash option amount of $584. The contractor and another HVAC contractor both estimated $1300. Was told reason it was much less is due to they receive discounts on parts and labor costs. I looked on the web and found the part (which was the wrong part to cost $824). I talked to a manager who gave me the same wrong part number they used to calculate parts cost. I truly believe they never had the right part. After an hour on the phone the manager increased my cash out option by $60 (service fee) and I accepted. Never again will I deal with so many incompetent people at First American Home Warranty.

If I put in a claim, it's attended to expediently, so I'm very satisfied with the service.

I had a home warranty before, but First American prices was a little bit cheap. When that home warranty expired, they set in to call me and everything worked out. I submitted a claim through the automated system and that part was easy, but I thought someone would be out the next day and they were not. It wasn’t assigned to anybody until I called back and got a live person on the line.
The person who came out was very knowledgeable and informative. He walked in my house and walked out because there was really nothing wrong. He showed me what was going on and what happened. Water was leaking into my downstairs bathroom from upstairs. Our shower curtain liner was on the outside of the tub, water ran down the liner, the crack by the tub and the tub was right over our vent and all the water goes through the vent. So if the liner had been in the tub, I wouldn’t have a need to call. I appreciated all of that and we paid him $65 for his knowledge. I really enjoy having my home warranty because, at times like that, someone else could come out and take you on a ride.

I have several friends with First American and they spoke highly about it, and I ended up signing with them in July last year. It's 100% customer satisfaction when submitting claims. This is my second time to submit a claim. I wasn't so lucky, it happened in one month, two ac with problems. But luckily, the second one wasn’t a big deal. The first one was some issue. We live in Texas so our AC is constantly running, so it happens. The guy came, fixed it right away and left. Now, it’s working perfectly and I'm happy. I would recommend them to other people for sure.

Placing a repair request is very simple and a return call from the contractor comes quickly. From that point on it is downhill. The personnel that you get to answer the phone for inquiries are not well trained and have bad attitudes. I have practically begged for assistance in resolving a dryer issue. The first time it took a month to get it fixed because they and the contractor failed to place the order and then failed to come out with the part without harassment from me.
I am now back in the same situation with the dryer again. Once again, the part did not get ordered until I called and ask what was the delay. Then there was no sense of customer service to say "I am sorry for the oversight, etc." You can send an email and they will respond with the same scripted response. I had requested to not have the same company come out to my house again and when they set it up, guess what, same company. It is beyond my comprehension how they are in business except that you are trapped with them for the year you paid for in advance.

We purchased a home warranty with our new house. Our water heater developed an internal leak and needed replaced. The technician who came out told us there would be $350 dollars in uncovered expenses. One those expenses is $80 to attach the gas line to the new unit. We contacted the company to request a payout to choose our own contractor, and they are not willing to give us enough money to purchase a new water heater. The contractor they are trying to force us to use is billing First American for supplies, and then charging us for labor. They do not care that their contractors are ripping off their customers.

We listed a home warranty in our contract as what we wanted to be able to make sure that things are gonna be covered if they went out. Submitting a claim to First American has been great. Our air-conditioner went out two days after we bought the house and everything was very easy. The only problem that I had was with the contractor. When he first came out, my husband was worried about it not being covered ‘cause we had just bought the house. He decided that if he told my husband it wasn’t covered, he would make more money off the deal. So he called us back and told us that it wasn’t covered. I called the company and they said, “We're gonna cover it, and we never told him that we weren’t gonna cover it”. So I didn’t like dealing with him from that time on because I felt like he was gonna lie to me about that. But so far, I haven’t had any problems after he installed everything and left.

We were moving into an older home and First American was recommended by our realtor. We've had other home warranty providers and so far, First American are the ones that seem to be true to their word. It's very easy filing a claim online. I can also call them for it which I prefer. Their reps are very enthusiastic though sometimes they can't answer our questions. We've used the technicians several times in the past and I liked 80% of the ones that they had recommended. I don't like some of the coverage that they do sometimes but I would definitely recommend First American. It's been a great experience with them.

This is all about red tape and long waits on the phone and long waits to get service. I won't do this again. When I sell my home next time and this is offered to the buyer it will be coming out of the realtor's commission... If I buy a home and this is offered my response will be far less than excited about it or positive. Why? Because now, when I need help with a problem it has been a painful unsatisfactory experience. I will probably end up paying for this out of my pocket as I can't really take much more of the hot weather without some cooling.

I used to have a home warranty before but I let it lapse. Then we started having some minor repairs that needed to be done so it was time to get another home warranty to help offset the costs. First American has been good about taking information and arranging for a serious technician to come and check out the problem. The process of claim submission is easy and it can be done either online or over the phone. I prefer the phone to speak to somebody. The techs who come are always respectful, call before they get here, and show up on time. Most of the guys don't speak good English and can only give very little information. They said they’ll contact the warranty company and will be in touch. Customer services could be a little better for communication with them. But they go in and do the work. I’ll recommend First American. They’re a good company.

I used to have First American in California fifteen years ago. I thought of getting it again to insure the appliances in my new home because all the appliances in it and the house itself are already 5 years old. I was afraid repair will be more costly if something could happen. Submitting a claim was fine and the technicians came all at perfect times. On the first month one of our toilets' handle suddenly broke so I used them thinking that I don't need to spend $65 on the toilet. I thought I was going to receive a brochure that can give me more information about the company since I don't know what is covered - I don't know what it used to be back in California. Despite that, I recommend them.

We had First American once, years ago, and when we decided to not keep our current warranty we went with them again. We just call them when we have a problem. The only thing that was out of their control was the contractor. Though they took care of the issue, the guy took almost 72 hours to respond. If I gave them 48 hours and they don't call me, I'm gonna call them as I'm the guy who follows up the calls. If they have said that they can't come for a few days, they should at least follow up - it shouldn't take 3 days to follow up with the phone call. My pump is too old and they had to order a new one, and it's just normal doing business that doesn't upset anyone. Once they get the part in, they came out, put it in and it worked well. They did the repair very properly.

Having a home warranty seemed like a good idea in the event there’d be a problem. When I bought the house, First American was mentioned so I proceeded with them. Submitting a claim was relatively simple and easy but when I was having this problem not getting addressed adequately from the repair agency, it was really frustrating because the reps said different things would happen. I also had another representative come saying they’d basically start again.
The technicians were professional and came on time. Within the scope of their troubleshooting procedures, the guy did what was expected. At the same time, he came out again and I explained some of the problems that were intermittent. My girlfriend had a problem very similar with the thermostat but he didn’t check it. Only in the third time that he came out did he acknowledge that it’s probably a thermostat problem.
I contacted some other repair agencies locally, and I was going to pay out of pocket for them to fix it because my house is in escrow now. I wanted to make sure that everything was working and in order. It's pretty cold at night and if the heater isn't going on and the thermostat says it is on that's not a pleasure. It's gone a bunch of times so I thought they would explore other options.
One of the guys I spoke to from the service agency that First American sent was fine. Then I had to speak to another person and in a roundabout way, he was doing what he could to talk me into buying a new furnace. He said, “Well, you know, these home-protecting companies don’t really approach things as comprehensibly as they could and we’ll be happy to show you a new furnace.” I told him the first thing is I need to be assured what the problem is if it's the furnace or the thermostat because a guy came out after I called First American another time and he replaced the thermostat and everything’s fine and dandy. I didn’t deal with that agency again because of my experience, but when they repaired it, it was going well.
The repair agency did it properly but it took them three times to correct the problem. The third time, I called and they said they weren’t going to come out. So I spoke to First American and then the company called me in a blinking of an eye.

We’ve had First American somewhere between 10-15 years. It was an extension that the sellers bought to protect us when we purchased the house in Sparks almost 15 years ago. Nothing bad has happened by having them so we continued with them. They have always been prompt and good though they're like any other business that keeps raising their prices. We've been with First American for a long time. When I have put in a claim or had a problem, I've had no problem with getting everything taken care of immediately. My last claim was for my air conditioner which I always get serviced every year so I had it checked. The gentleman said we needed it replaced along with the heating unit. So I called and First American sent out an inspector. He said there was absolutely nothing wrong with the air conditioner. Even though it's an older air conditioner, it's in very good condition so it saved me about $6,000. The young man was very informative, knew exactly what he was doing and very honest. First American is awesome and I really enjoy having them. They're very good at what they do. I refer to them as the elite group. Their customer service is awesome. They're very compassionate and knowledgeable about what they're doing. They listen and the questions that they ask me tells me that they know a lot about their work and their product, which to me, is very inviting. It makes me feel very safe and comfortable.
They seemed like a company that can satisfy and take care of my issues as they come. When my stove broke down, they replaced it without any issue, and I'm very happy. I filed a claim for my garage door opener recently. The gentleman came out and took care of it. He wanted to replace the unit but I don't know what he did because it started working again. Prior to that, they assigned me to a second opinion because they didn't want to replace it at this time. They wanted to see if they could fix the shortage that it had. It turned out that the only problem I had was that the garage company never contacted me. I even called them, and they never showed up. I don't blame First American for people that they work with as far as that and also, it was 200 miles away so I really understood them.
But when the gentleman took care of it, it has been working ever since so I left it alone. In fact, I talked to the young lady that was assigned to it, and I told her that I'm still happy with First American. I told her not to worry about it and she asked me to repeat that over the phone so it could be recorded and then she can close the claim. I also told her that if it breaks down again, I will contact them to start up the claim.

First American was offered to us when we bought the house and we've stayed with them for about four years now for security. Also, our HVAC equipment is old and we thought we'd stick with them until we need to replace that equipment. However, it requires a lot of nagging to get stuff done right with them. The trades that they have coming to the house don't come out with the mindset to fix anything. They come out with the mindset to collect their money, do a band-aid repair the best they can then get out of there. So it requires a number of service calls back to the house to get something actually done. And we had this happen twice when they came out and caused damage. They always scream, "We're not liable to repair that damage." But that's understood, that's what warranty companies do. Having a warranty program, you just have to understand that's how it's going to be.
For the most part, their work is from a band-aid to bad, not from a band-aid to good. Plus, one of the things that I don't like about it is when I've had numbers for companies, like air conditioning companies, and I've had three or four of them at the house, I don't have an option as a homeowner placing a claim to tell them who I want coming back to my house. They set it up with whoever they set it up with and then I have to call and beg them to send the company that I want. But it's part of the game, too. I'm not dissatisfied but I don't love them.

Will they ever replace it? Plumber at my house - needed 4 visits to get a flusher fixed (subsequently replaced by the cheapest and ugliest they could get). Valve on a faucet was "rigged" with clay to create a stop - really?!! Kitchen faucet was fixed and overturned, now I have water spraying out of the sink. And this is the result after 4 visits! Appliance repair - Range has a gas leak and oven doesn't keep heat. Over 3 months and still not fixed. Taken hours and hours off of work to meet with one technician after another - still not fixed. A gas leak!!! They really need to hire competent companies or make good on what they say and replace what needs to be replaced.

My experience with First American has been fair so far. The First American reps have always been friendly, and the technicians are always great. Their work has also always been great. All my claims have been properly taken care of, however, they claim to be 24 hours, but when something happens on the weekends, you can’t get anything done until Monday or Tuesday. Unfortunately, most of the things in my house went out on the weekend. They took my claim and wrote it up, but nobody could reach me mostly until Monday. In addition, most of my claims are done in a timely fashion, but sometimes, if I have something defective and after they came to see what it is and they don’t have parts, it might take a day or two. First American is one of the decent warranty companies in town, they’re not just timely sometimes.

I’ve been with First American for 12 years and have stayed with them because it's convenient. They get the technicians that I need who get my claims fixed. I don’t have to go trying to figure out who’s who. I call and tell First American the problem, they look and tell me who the contractor is, and usually the contractor calls me within the next day then they'd come out and we’d get the ball rolling.
This one claim I have has been really tricky because it took a while to get it fixed. This was probably one of the worst experiences in my 12 years with First American. The contractors came out May 30th and they came back out today and fixed the problem. But 15 minutes ago, I had to call them again and they came back out because something broke and the air conditioner still wasn’t working. I had to leave for work but I hope that when I come home tonight, it'll be working.
I thought at first it was the technician that caused the delay, but it was First American because when I called mid-June (June 6 or 7) since I hadn't heard anything, they said they'll check the technician's report and found that the technician did give one. They said the technician would call me and come out once they figured out how much money will be spent. I didn’t hear anything, so I called back. The guy looked and said there was no report. I said I just called two days ago. So they had to do it again then called me back and said the report was there, May 31st, and they must have lost it. Then they lost it again, so it was an issue with First American. The report took three to four times to get done and it’s what delayed the whole thing. It was a frustrating process because it’s always been smooth with my other claims. One time bad out of 12 years, I can deal with it. I know First American is great.

My only problem with them is that I used to pay $40-$42 a month. Now, I'm paying $50 so they're raising my rate up for whatever reason. Other than that, they're a good company. Their claim process is very good because I can submit a claim online. I don't have to call or wait and it works great. Their work is good and I'm satisfied with it. They always get everything fixed.

First American was recommended by our realtor and it's always a good experience when you call their claims representative. With the last claim for the air handler for the airconditioning, First American ended up having to send five different contractors out. It was the way that the house was built and the way that it was in there that they didn't want to do the work for they either weren't capable of doing it or they didn't wanna do it for the price that First American would pay them. But the main thing is it finally got resolved. When we have some problems, it always gets resolved.

First American is the best. I've been with them for at least 13 years and my service is outstanding. The value of the product I buy is excellent and it beats the others in the market. There's never any BS, but there's never any trouble getting the claim. Everybody is professional and they strive to meet the customers' needs. When the contractors show up, I'm sitting there ready with the deductible amount. But that's a reasonable expectation on their part as a service provider because I've said in my contract that I won't pay them when they get here and then they'd go from there.
It's an easy process to complain with them and in my recent claim, I've had more input than I ever had. It solidified what I knew about and had experienced with First American. They asked me to critique, go over my experience and they did what they said they were going to do. That's probably the biggest thing in a home warranty industry that gets the consumers - if somebody doesn't stand by their word, that they'd do what they say they're going to do.
My house, when we bought it, was aged. We live in East Texas, it's the deep South so it's hot early in the year and it stays hot late in the year. And our heating and air unit put in a lot of hours running. We've made a claim just about every year since we've been in this house because that unit has been here since '78. When we made the claim this year and the technician talked to First American, they didn't hem or haw. They said it's time to replace everything and it's going to cost me x number of dollars since it's not a cost in the contract. It was between $450 and $500 and that's a reasonable expectation on my part, too. There are things that have to be done that aren't covered in the contract but I've got all new hardware in my heating and cooling unit now and First American never griped or anything.
They did an excellent job and were very polite, punctual and called before they came. They explained all the work that they were going to do and after the fact explained what they did. That's great because I wasn't there, my wife was and she was trying to understand what went on so that she can tell me. And I don't care, I just wanted it fixed. The coverage is pretty good and I'm very happy with First American and my experience with them.

If I could give a zero rating I would do that!!! For the last 4 years I have had 4 new transformers for my air conditioner. Each time they send out a new hvac company and they tell me the same thing "the last guy did not install properly." I am now on hold for the 4th time because I keep getting disconnected. It is 113 degrees outside and they say I can have $60, "go buy a fan!" What!!! They just replaced it yesterday and 3 weeks previously. I am at my wit's end, dealing with this. I seriously am at a point that I don't know what to do anymore. I now am on 2 phones trying to get someone out before Monday. The technicians I have now are very knowledgeable because I get service up, and I'm satisfied with their work. However, I wasn't satisfied with the first three that came because they didn't know what they're doing. But despite that, I would recommend First American.

They only came and talk to me about what to fix without fixing anything. They don't take into consideration that people have jobs also. I called FA back to asked for a different contractor because I was not satisfied and they cannot do anything before talking to the original contractor. Customer's time does not mean anything to them.

Firstly, First American Home Warranty is a good company. My only complaint is the time it took to fix/replace my microwave oven. We were without a oven for approximately one month. After first calling in the claim, 1st American assigned a company that did not work on microwave ovens, therefore I had to contact the company again to refile another claim. After searching the area, they were able to find someone to come out to check my oven. I was told the company that found the problem would not be fixing or replacing the oven but the company that did not work on microwaves would be replacing the oven. This did not take place. The initial company that found the problem had to come back out to install the new oven after it was shipped to my address. We had the oven in our home for approximately a week before the original company came back out to install it. It should not have taken a month to fix/replace the appliance.

I went online to research First American after using another company whose service I didn’t care for. We've had a home warranty since we moved in this house, and because the house is getting older, I wanna continue with it. I liked the feedback from First American's customer service that customers had put online, so I went with them. I submitted a claim for the microwave and had a wonderful experience. They replaced my microwave with no questions because the service people told them it was defective. I also had a technician out here for the air conditioner, and everybody has been very professional in telling us everything that’s wrong with things and helping us out.
The only downside about the whole thing is the time that it took to get a technician out here. I understand it takes 24 to 48 hours for somebody to call us back. I ended up having to call them and they were getting ready to call me, but then it took them five days. They couldn’t get out here, so that was not acceptable. But it happened to be in the cooler time of the year, and that’s the only problem I've had. I wanna see how First American does if we do have a major problem.

On one occasion, a person came and he was able to take care of the issue.

I've had this warranty which came with my home for 4 years. We have paid them $119.00 a month for over 4 years. It's difficult to cancel and they auto review. I've had them out three times. They send completely incompetent people who are quick to collect their $60.00 whether they fix, diagnose or replace or not. In my case nothing gets fixed or replaced properly or equal to the covered item. They are impossible to deal with over the phone. After paying them over $5000 dollars in monthly fees they have only served to waste my time and have fixed nothing.
If you work or have little time, this company will cost you far more than monthly payments and wasted service fees. You will wait around all day and have no resolve. First American works with their contractors to provide the worst possible service and replaces your high end appliances with the lowest cost, lowest quality item made. You then elect to take a payment of 10% of what the actual replacement would be to just get something. Even that will be a nightmare. Try cancelling - another nightmare.
This company is abusive to the customer and I can't believe they are in business. It's the auto renewal, I'm sure. You would be far ahead to NOT have this service and the realtors should be informed. I can't write the details of each painful experience because I don't have the space. I'm so upset with this company. I feel they are the epitome of consumer fraud. I am filing a complaint with the State and I am trying to cancel my contract. I still have a leaky faucet, a nonworking refrigerator and a bandaged AC in addition to hours of total frustration and an economic loss of over $ 5000.00. Check out the BBB reviews on this company. I recently purchased a home and made the awful mistake to have this company as my warranty provider. Over a week ago, my AC unit would not work amidst a heat wave with temperatures nearly reaching 100 degrees. I was told that I would have the AC unit looked at by their contractor within two business days. I was never able to reach this contractor. Finally assigned to a new technician yesterday and was told that the service would be considered an emergency due to the dangerous temperatures in my home.
Called the new contractor today and was told that he could not set up an appointment because he was never sent the necessary information from First American. Spent more time on the phone with First American to have the information passed on. Contractor tells me on my call back that he is booked for the next three days. I have been forced to spend money on hotels because I have children living in the home and it is so unbearably hot that it is unsafe.
Last night, the thermostat in my home read 93 degrees. First American has offered me nothing for these troubles. I still do not have an appointment scheduled and have made so many phone calls to this company begging for help that I have lost count. I have been disconnected by employees several times for asking to speak to a supervisor and was most recently told that I can't speak to a supervisor because they are busy. I am at my wit's end. What should be an exciting and enjoyable time in my life has been completely ruined by this horrendous experience with First American. We recently rented a house where the landlord had a warranty with First American Home Buyer's Protection. I called First American to clear a simple blockage in two bathroom sinks. First American sent Revival Plumbing (WO#**) on 4/5/16. Revival charged a $65.00 service fee, cleared the blockage in one sink, but refused to work on the other sink without a separate work order. I asked First American to send another plumber to finish the job.
First American sent Abe's Plumbing (WO#**) on 4/11/16. Abe's was at the house for over 1-1/2 hours, couldn't clear the blockage, and recommended installing a clean-out for $485.00. I then called a plumber I had successfully used in the past, MM Plumbing, who quickly located an existing clean out, cleared the blockage, and charged me $90.00.
On April 16th, I requested in writing a full refund from First American. I have since called four times (4/27, 5/12, 5/17, 6/1). On 5/17, I was told the check was being processed and would be delivered within 5-7 business days. Having not received the check by 6/1, I called to follow-up, was placed on hold for almost an hour, and was told a check would be delivered within 5-7 business days. They gave me an assignment number for the work order and then told me who would be calling me within how much, and then they gave me their phone number in case they didn’t call. We had one incident with our washing machine where it was an older washer and they didn’t seem to be able to have a handle on fixing it, and it took an inordinate amount of time to have it fixed. We bought a new house and being responsible for the air conditioning, washer and dryer, refrigerator, fans, and everything else, it seemed smart to have a home warranty on top of the homeowners insurance. If something goes wrong with the homeowners insurance, it has such a big deductible that you have to come forth with before anything can be done that it puts you in a financial strap, whereas this is very reasonable.
I had another home warranty service before and had a disagreement with them. I researched First American and when I called and spoke with them, they made it very easy on me. They said that as long as my policy is paid and I have something that is covered, then they will take care of the problem one way or the other. They're not going to demand to see paperwork from something that's 10 years old to show that I've done any kind of maintenance. They'll either fix or replace it. That's easier compared to the other company that I had wanted that wanted us to show proof that we've kept our air conditioning records done, which I didn't want.
Submitting a claim is very easy. I could do it online but I still like that human touch and I generally just call in. The reps are always very polite and efficient. They take a quick look at my policy, tell me my work order number and what company is going to be calling me to go to the house within a few days, then let me know if I haven't heard from them within two business days. They do what they’re supposed to do.
We had different problems with something, so the tech has been out here several times. We're on a first name basis and he does a great job. He's very polite and professional. I've never had a problem with anything. Whether it's plumbing, electrical, or anything else, First American takes care of it and we're perfectly happy. The technician doesn't necessarily want to do the work, doesn't want to check something else while he's sitting even though we've got a claim in, takes too long to get out here, and doesn't eventually come or brings the wrong parts.
If we have trouble with a contractor, there should be a better way to flag that on our file that we never want to see that person again. We have multiple contracts with First American and we can get a contractor flagged on one contract, but we put in a claim on another contract and we get the same idiot out there again. A/C evap coil was leaking and required repair. This is supposedly covered by the First American warranty (that cost me $612/yr). The contractor gave me the cost of the 'noncovered' costs to complete the job as $1154. I knew immediately that this was not a fair price. I called an independent contractor to confirm the issue. He did confirm the diagnosis to be correct. The total cost for him to completely repair plus some small extras is $1250. I called First American to complain but they have no concern as to what the contractors they select to send out may charge for 'uncovered costs'. First American offers only $168 as the fair cash out to have another contractor perform the repair.
Hence, you are left with Hopson's choice - over pay for the unscrupulous contractors that First Warranty will send, or pay for the repair yourself. Please note that it appears First Warranty is fully aware of these issues and are completely 'lawyered up' to preclude any recourse you may hope to have. Ask customer service if it is OK to record any information they are giving you. Ask customer service to provide any information they are giving you in written form. They will assure you they have all conversations documented but they will not provide any to you.

When I asked why, they informed me that, per my contract, they didn't have to match the color/could give me any color they wanted. That was their reason, which is no good reason other than lousy customer service. I could understand if there was a cost difference, but there was NO cost difference. There was no reason for them not to switch the color for me when the cost was the same for them regardless, and of course the "cash out" option was only $883.52 (which wasn't enough to buy one and have my old one hauled off). They called with info of similar, but not identical brand/model/size of wall mounted over the stove microwave oven. I questioned why not same brand as I had. They assured me this was quite similar and would fit the bill. OR I could accept a cash payout, and assume cost of labor install for a kind I picked on my own. The $$ didn't come close to what an identical model would be. So I accepted the substitute, as I was assured it was close to the one I had.
AHA... Therein lies the problem... Technicians couldn't replace the new unit, as it was too big (deep) for the opening AND it needed a new venting hookup. When I called and explained this to FAHW, they say "it's customers responsibility to make do measuring to be ensure a proper fit. All FAHW can do is offer a similar style... Customer should not make assumption that it will fit." Now, would it not be reasonable to assume that if a company that was in the business of repairing/replacing appliances told an ordinary layperson that "this is quite similar" that the ordinary person would assume it was going to fit??? So if they were in the auto insurance business they'd replace a Cadillac engine with a Kia engine because they each make a car run?

First American sent repairmen to fix the problem five times and every time they said the problem was fixed and then the leaking started again. After the third time we had to replace our flooring and subflooring due to all of the damage at a cost of over $3,000. Then it started leaking again (we were told the third time if it happened again they would replace it). We explained that this would make the 4th repair on the same problem and that we had to replace our floor because of this issue and could not afford to replace the flooring again. They sent another repairman who said it was fixed and again it started leaking again. On this fifth time calling for the same problem I told them that 5 times for the same problem was enough and we needed a new unit.
They just kept telling me they would just keep fixing it until it would not run at all and it didn't matter that is was causing secondary damage. I spent over two hours on the phone trying to speak with a manager and was told they would not let me speak with a manager. They then told me to hire my own contractor and pay him for a second opinion and they might think about it. We have been paying them our premiums for years and have now spent about as much on service call deductibles that we could have bought two new units. This is hands down the worst customer service I have ever received. They not only did not help...five times over, they cost us an extra $3,000 and have been extremely rude on top of that. I can schedule something, add further comments and make a follow up there. Also, the technicians work with great quality. I’ve been very pleased with the product and happy to have them as a provider.

Also have some leaking in our shower due to cracked marble but it is considered a caulking issue, so I am supposed to caulk all the cracks in our marble floor. What the point of paying for warranty at closing if they do not fix anything? Ugggh... has been so frustrating working with this company. Will be changing soon.

We got First American with the house. The home warranty was a gift to us and First American was what our realtor ended up with. We submit claims online and the process is very easy. Almost all our interactions are with the service provider and our interactions with the technicians who come to our home have been fine. They are courteous, knowledgeable, and get the job done in a reasonable amount of time but I feel that the quality of the work they performed is about 80%.

I’ve been with First American for about four years now. It was chosen by the loan adviser because I purchased a home and had to have a warranty. In case something broke, I’d have to have insurance so everything worked out for me and I continued to take them along. I submit claims both online and over the phone. Online, it’s a very easy process except when the system freezes up. The claims reps have been good and really helpful and the technicians helpful. I had some problems with First American at the beginning, but after that, it’s been okay.

I used to have a different home warranty for two years and I don't think it's legit. Every time I call them out, they kept telling me I have to pay money out-of-pocket and it was a lot of money. I shouldn't have gotten that warranty. Then I read up online about First American. I like what they told me on the phone and email about the process if something breaks down. I tried them out and used them twice already and both on a weekend. Submitting a claim to them on a weekend is fine because I get an email right away. My husband said that the technicians were very nice, polite, they knew what they were doing, and they explained everything to him. First American is nothing like the other company that I had. It is an excellent company. I have been recommending them to other people.

Submitting a claim to First American was awesome. It was quick, easy and all online, which was nice. The technician was in and out relatively quickly. He seemed to know what he was talking about and figured out what the problem was. He took the piece of equipment that needed repairs and kept me updated as the repairs progressed.

Knowing that my brother had good experience with them, made us decide to purchase an insurance from them as well. Submitting a claim online was easy, I quickly got an email back saying it was referred to the plumbing company. The plumbing company contacted me the next morning and came out and repaired the issue. The technicians were very good, the quality of the work done was perfect. Everything was painless and easy - the way things should be when working with an insurance company.

First American was awesome. I’ve had about four techs come out here over the year for different issues and everybody was friendly. They’ve been there during the time they said they were and always gave a call 30 minutes before they get there. They’ve been good about explaining what was wrong and what needs to be done and showing me the part that was messed up. The claims representatives have been great too. The experience I had with First American was well worth the money and I’ve referred them to multiple people.

I’ve had First American for over 15 years since it was in the contract when I bought my house. It was a ten-year-old house and my broker recommended them. After the first year, I had some repairs done so I kept First American going. I usually submit claims over the phone. The reps ask pertinent questions and verify model numbers and tell me realistically when I’ll be contacted by the contractor and let me know what the status of things are. Half the time, I’m at home when the technicians come and half the time, my wife’s there and almost always, they’re very good. If anybody plans on keeping their house and appliance up-to-date, having First American is a good investment.

My husband usually does submit the claims because he's usually home, and the claims process has been positive as far as I know. Generally speaking, the technicians have been good. The only argument I would have is specific to the Sears technicians that came to the house, and not so much a problem with First American who took care of their end of it. We have a refrigerator ice maker that has been replaced. It's on its third time now and the first couple of times, they used renovated parts which didn't last very long. Then I did have one technician come in to do that exchange who wasn't really prepared to do the operation. He didn't have the part and he had to come back. Nonetheless, First American has been responsive and lives up to their end of the contract.

I got First American Home Warranty. They send people out when they’re supposed to and that’s what they’re there for. I'm happy with them except for one time. I have an air conditioner that their contractor Morgan Air was supposed to come out and fix it. They came out. The gentleman took the cover off the air conditioner, put his hands in there and broke some wires off. Then he took a picture of the broken wire and took it to the air conditioning place, and they said the air conditioning system worked fine. So they wouldn't pay for anybody to fix it. I was close to canceling the service at that point because that didn't make any sense. I’ve got two air conditioners in my house and I would like First American to fix my other air conditioner and I strongly advise not to go through Morgan Air again.

Everything went really smooth and the next thing I know, I had somebody contacted me later that day. All the technicians get the job done and do it very professionally. I usually never review much of anything but this company has performed so poorly, I needed to share. I did some research trying to find a home warranty company but obviously not enough. I have been a member of First Amer for less than a year. The first claim was for my oven keypad. The problem was fixed but if I never called the repair people, it would still not be fixed. And when I did call to ask when they were coming back to fix the problem, the repair person did not ever recall when he came to my house to diagnose the issue the first time. Truly mind boggling. The most recent issue was for my 21 year old washer which had a small leak. Again, if I never called the assigned repair person, they would have never come out. The repair person was clueless and misdiagnosed the issue 3 separate times. The final time he came out, he flooded my laundry room which leaked into the basement.
But the best part is the FAWC wanted nothing to do with the damage. They told me they are not responsible for contractor error. They finally sent out a very qualified repair person who told me the machine is not fixable and was never fixable and that the first repairman should have known this. I accepted a cash out offer from FAWC but they actually took a second co-pay out of my cash out offer. SO I basically paid two co-pays when FAWC should have covered the second co-pay to the second repairman. I believe that is in the contract that I am responsible for one copay. But, whenever I try to speak to somebody, they don't speak very good English and cannot help me. This company is a joke. They were quick to sell me the warranty with well spoken people but when it comes time for service or help, the company changes it's tune and you are dealing with people with no authority whatsoever.

Recently, the commode in the bathroom was loose and it was rocking, which was our fault because my husband has problems when he sits down. He has no good balance so it got loose. We submitted a claim to AHS and a plumbing company came out. The technician wound up tightening up the nuts and caulked the commode. AHS has been very good. My house is 16 years old, so it still has the original AC unit. When I bought the house, I didn't have the cash to completely overhaul it so I wanted a home warranty. First American had good reviews and it was a toss up between three companies. First American has the cheapest yearly rates and they had the lowest deductible so I went with them.
I recently submitted a claim for my dishwasher and I spoke to a representative in about 30 seconds after calling in. It was a five-minute conversation and he said, "Yup, you are covered." And it was a done deal. They had someone on scene in a day or two later. The person took pictures, got the serial and model numbers, etc. He was pretty knowledgeable. If I had another problem I would probably ask for him again if I could. He had to order parts and I know nothing is immediate. He came back and everything has been working fine. I have no complaints and I'm very satisfied. It was a pretty painless, quick, and efficient experience with First American.

Recently filed a claim with First American Home Warranty. The technician that showed up stated that only the evaporator coil needed to be replaced on my unit. First American decided that they wanted to replace the whole Air Handler which would cost me an additional $700 out of pocket expense for non covered costs. When I specifically asked a FAHW supervisor why they wouldn't just replace the evaporator coil the answer was that it was more cost effective for them to replace the air handler!!! How does that make sense?
On top of that dealing with the contractor admin office who were extremely rude and flat out would not explain the extra costs associated with the installation. I then asked FAHW to send a new contractor and they stated that regardless of who they sent then would only replace the entire Air Handler. In essence the true repair only costs me about $50 out of pocket yet FAHW had decided that it is better to replace entire Air Handler (unnecessary to fix problem) with an out of pocket expense for me of $700. I do not recommend anybody choosing a company who does not look out for their customers first!!! BEWARE!!!

The service of First American is a good deal. When you have a super expensive refrigerator go down and you get it covered for $50 or whatever the rate is, it's well worth it. It's super easy to submit a claim with them over the phone. It's usually very easy and pleasant with the claims reps. The technicians are often knowledgeable because we live in an old house and have premium appliances that only a few people are able to work on. The technicians that have come out are generally of two kinds: those dealing with appliances like kitchen appliances, and those dealing with plans like HVAC, the heating and cooling systems.
For the plan side of the house, the technicians that have come out are awesome, and the work they have done has been spot on and perfect most of the time. So if somebody comes out to fix our furnace, it's always correct, and they always know what they're doing and how to represent us back to the insurer. But on the appliance side, it's totally hit or miss. I just went through a process of having a technician come out who knew nothing about a dishwasher or the make and model of it, and ordered a bunch of parts that took an extra long time. Then a second technician came out who actually knew what he was looking at and sent all those parts back, and fixed our dishwasher in about five minutes. But that's not First American's fault necessarily, but just what consumers have to deal with.

All those statements and we have our insurance through. Submitting a claim is available online. That's where I did my last one which took only five minutes, so it's definitely easy to use. There have been a couple of issues over the years with who they dispatch out to us. But for the most part, everything is really good. My AC had evaporate coils leaks. With my home warranty, I have to pay extra $1,004.00 + $60 for service fee, while I got a local AC company to fix this and it cost me only $850. So I called to First American Home Buyers Protection explaining situation and requested to have another contractor but they didn't accept. First American gave me another option that I can cash out with the amount is $237.38 which they paid for. Part is $162.38 and labor is $135 ($237.38 is the amount after it's deducted $60 service fee), but I actually can get only about $172 after they minus extra amount about $65 that they said whatever fee that I don't understand. More important here, labor for replace an evaporator coil is only $135. It takes at least 4 hours for 2 people to finish the job. This makes no sense for 2 AC license people work in 4 hours to be paid $135.
I called to First American many times but no one can give me a right reason except they keep transfer me from departments to other departments so I was on the phone for hours but I couldn't find a final answer for this. They just only say it is what it is because of my non-cover cost (the cost of my contract $445 for 1 year). I claimed on February but till May, the issues haven't solve yet. I don't see a right reason for me to have a home warranty here but I cannot get the refund if I cancel my contract. Last summer, the tech who came out for a refrigerator repair wasn't so great. He wasn't very friendly and he had to come back out to the house four times. Anytime we would tell or ask him something, he was very combative and didn't want to hear what we had to say. However, the two technicians they sent out recently for the hot water tank have both been nice. In times we've had to have them come out, they've had to come out multiple times for a recurring issue or for the same problem. They don't really resolve it on the first visit. And then two years ago, one of our friends from Athens, Texas was touting them and I said, “Oh, I already use that service.” Submitting a claim has been good and easy. I like being able to do it on the internet and they respond the next day with letting me know that it’s filed. Some usually take a couple of days for the contractor to call us so fortunately, we haven’t had any emergency situation.
Once, they assigned us to a technician that didn’t work on a particular brand of washer. He called the service people at First American and they got me somebody else. There was a pretty good delay from that standpoint. They have a $60,000 fee that we cover apparently and some of the other services that are out there we’re obligated to pay a higher service fee. Consequently, it may be that they’re having to get service companies that would agree with that lower $65 fee and it might be affecting their selection of contractors.

I bought the house ten years ago and first had a company that our real estate people suggested. I didn't like the way it went so I decided to call and get another one. I went online, looked up, and went with First American. I liked the way they'd cover everything that we needed covered. I also had a pool at the house that I'm constantly having problems with and I wanted to find a company that's going to take care of it. I found that First American covers it so it was a lot easier then and I've stuck with them ever since.
We've had outstanding technicians. I wouldn't change or do anything any differently than what they've done because they've been wonderful. The two or three times that I've had them out here, they've been real patient about explaining everything. Even the last guy that was out here talked to me a little about what he was doing and why he was doing it. He also said that I can have them as many times out here as I need them and that they're happy to come out. So I was excited to find out that I don't have to wait until something actually breaks. I can call them and they will come out and take care of the problem.
We've had absolutely wonderful experiences with First American. I'm a little older and it's hard sometimes for me to find all the right little buttons and stuff when I file a claim. If anything changes, it's difficult for me to figure out what I need to do to straighten it out. I'm ecstatic about being able to know that I can just go online, click a button and First American will take care of me. I also love the service that they give because I don't have to wait more than two or three days at the most. If I have an emergency, they will send people right out here.

The list agent met a Electrician sent out by First Am HBP at the house in Central Oregon. He was disrespectful, he did not want to be there, he said he was too busy to give bid on electric items not covered. He said he signed up when business was slow and now that it is very busy... He said the home inspector was wrong about the GFI plugs being not correct/proper. We had a second electrician out at buyers' expense and he said the GFI plugs were not in proper areas and there were none in the garage. I think the service call should have been refunded but not offered. The list agent told the electrician she would not be able to recommend him if asked. I am sorry my buyers will have this for a year with this type of service.

This company offered me home warranty for my home. They asked what type of A/C unit I have and I told them heat pump. Well I had problems with my unit and it took them 4 days to get someone to call me. When that company called they scheduled an appointment and I took off work. The company then called me 30 minutes before they were supposed to be there and asked for directions. When I have them directions, they stated they wouldn't service my area. They told me I have to call the warranty company back. So I did. After about 15 times of calling and getting hung up on, I finally reached sometime. They told me that is the only company they have for my area and they would escalate my ticket to their manager and they would call back within 4 hours. 6 hours passed, no phone call.
I call back again, to find out they cancelled my ticket without calling me because they said they don't cover my type of unit (even though it was discussed during me getting the warranty). Come to find out, they input the wrong type of unit and had to create another work order. Went through the process again, to find out they have no one in my area to service my unit. I was so upset I told them to cancel my contract because I was still within my 30 day grace period. They had no problem with that and told me I have to send an email stating I want to cancel and I would be refunded in 48 hours. So I did and received a confirmation letter. That has been over a week with no reimbursement. I called today to find out that it is still in a cancellation process. He informed me that it could take up to 30 days for me to get my money back. This is unacceptable! Please don't get caught in this company's trap!

They are quick to respond. The longest wait is usually 48 hours, not counting weekends. I'm a very satisfied customer. However, on the second claim, when the contractor was here, they were doing the toilet. They didn't fold it down before they left, but they came back literally within about a half hour after we called them.

I've had First American for about 20 years now and I am happy with them. Submitting a claim is very simple. I call them up, and they listen to what my problem is and they find the appropriate workman to take care of it. They provided the service that they said they would as far as covering those particular appliances and home areas that I have listed under the plan. They have been very responsive relative to securing the appropriate workman to take care of whatever problem I call them about, and their technicians have been very professional. They did what needed to be done to correct the problem.
So far, their first attempts to correct any problem we've had with our appliances were successful. But, I think that they certainly could maintain their price level as opposed to going up as they have done, because there are other companies out there that provide similar services for a lower price than what they do. If they want to stay competitive, they need to take a look at that.

On Feb 2, 2016 we called about our heater failing. First contractor came out, reviewed the heater and claimed it was working fine, but that our vents were cutting off airflow. So I bought and replaced the filter of the intake vent. This did not solve the problem. Contractor returned and then determined it was a rusty Igniter element. He left, ordered the part, and after I handled all the calls, finally was authorized to replace it. It seemed that the contractor and AHW never seem to communicate in a timely manner. So with the new igniter, and 3rd visit, and now the contractor says the housing is leaking (our heater is on the roof so rainfall caused the Igniter to rust). On top of that the contractor claims he is not authorized to work on Hydronic Heaters.
So now 2nd HVAC firm comes out, inspects the unit, determines a new unit is needed and leaves. Weeks go by and we learn the unit is so dated they don't make a replacement. Though the contractor makes a second visit with a partner to explore other options? So after I host 5 visits, we learn from AHW that they would like to propose a cash payout, of $736.25. A new heater (and ours is a Heater/AC combo unit) runs closer to 5000.00 alone, and could easily be double that.
So why do I have a home insurance plan who doesn't seem to care that for 3 months I HAVE NO HEAT, and running space heaters and gas fireplaces to stay warm, and then low balls us with a $736 cash out. While I understand that the heater unit was not brand new, and maybe their algorithm for cash out factors in depreciation, what I don't understand is how this company has no provisions for a situation where the customer is spending $$ to heat a home, while this firm and their contractors do nothing. I don't know where to go at this point. I called their 800 line, and got nowhere. I even asked this case to be escalated, and nothing has happened. The irony is that this all occurred at the time our annual insurance policy with them was due for renewal - and I got more calls from their sales people about renewing than I did about how our heater situation was going.

First American customer service is pretty good I should say. Their response time and customer care is very good. But the deal starts to break once the contractors step in. They exploit every bit of it and unfortunately FA plays into it. We had an issue with the garage door that the motor stopped working. We made a claim and they had me schedule an appointment with a contractor (Garage Door Medics). The contractor comes in, doesn't even touches a thing and says the spring is broken and it costs me $499 and it will not be covered by the insurance. I asked him about the motor and his response is "Please give me 5 minutes while I talk to somebody". He talks to somebody on the phone and comes back and says the motor can be replaced and that could be covered but 499 is absolutely out of my pocket plus the $65 visiting fees. I didn't like the response or could trust the guy, hence I contacted First American and asked for a second opinion.
The next day a new contractor from Exit Garage Door turns up and he touched a little and said the spring's broken and it would cost me $425. I started asking him questions on what needs to be replaced and he said he has to get on a phone call first and left for his truck. Returns after 30 mins and says 425 for the spring, etc and for the motor it's $350. This is my very hard-earned money and I think I have a right to ask any questions before I pay them my money. And just because I asked for a second opinion First American declined my claim. Do we call this fair business practices? Is this the way to handle a customer. Do I have to sell kidneys to afford a contractor? I feel helpless and exploited and probably I don't have a choice but to pay them $1000 or perhaps $10000 to get the garage door fixed. Very disappointed.

I called them and I was told he'd be here before four o’clock. Nobody called and he never came. The next day, the second technician came together with the one that was supposed to come the first day. I chased him away. I told him he let me wait without calling to tell me he couldn't make it. Then the second technician tried to fix the dishwasher. He replaced every possible part in the machine but he could not get it to work.
I had to call First American again. I talked to somebody that barely spoke English again. Every time, I had to go through the same baloney. The computer did not understand my address and it took forever to get to talk to somebody. And when I talk to somebody they're in no position to give me a decent answer. Submitting a claim whether online or over the phone was very easy, and their customer service has always been very helpful and friendly. Dealing with technicians is where we ran into a little bit of an issue. It’s hit or miss, and sometimes I’ve had to have them come out several times. On my recent claim, they were just rude and condescending when I first placed my claim with them. The pool repairs was bare minimum - only the filter was replaced, instead of the whole section, and that's why the issue kept happening again.
The contractor made me feel like an idiot or I've done something wrong just for placing a claim. I would have changed the call to ask First American to send somebody else out but I was desperate. It's been a problem that I've had two previous pool services fixed in the last year. It was over the 30 days so we couldn't call them back. The work done by the plumber that First American sent out was good. However, when I bought the policy I was not aware of what they were gonna cover. When people apply for an insurance policy, they should take more time in explaining in detail what it covers and what it doesn't rather than just quickly read off the script and say "Look, if you have to upgrade, we don't cover stuff like that". I feel that what I paid for the policy could have been better. I had a water heater underneath the house, but they no longer make that size so I had to get a taller water heater. But the new one wouldn't fit under the house, so I had to have it put outside and I had to buy a hut, etc. I understand upgrades aren't covered but I don't know why it didn't cover a water heater that they don't make anymore. So I had a $1,500 out-of-pocket expense.
I had to stay on top of the claim to make sure it got done because that could mean longer time with no water heater instead of what could be three days. I called every hour to get updated and find out where they're at because they gotta call the company I used to supply the water heater. It happened on a Sunday and it took all of that day for me to follow up. They came out on a Monday to look at it and said, "Well, we can't do anything today. We may be back in a couple of days." I had to push the claim to get their paperwork ready so they could put the water heater in the next day.

We moved into our home 3 months ago, and recently noticed water leaking into the basement from the dishwasher. I decided to utilize the home warranty we got and opened up a claim online. Two days went by and I didn't hear anything from FA, so I called the contractor they assigned like it said to do on the FA website. After being on the phone with them for a good 10 minutes, they told me they couldn't help me and to call FA back to have my appointment scheduled. Called FA, and they said they have to schedule the appointment (then why does it tell you to call the contractor on the website???). They asked how I filed my claim. When I told them online, they responded with "Oh, well if you would have called we would have scheduled your appointment right away." Sooo... online claim-filing is apparently useless.
Scheduled a week out for a tech from Sears to come look at the dishwasher. That day came (3pm-6pm window), and after 5 pm I got an automated call from Sears to reschedule. When I called they told me the tech had an emergency and we had to reschedule. Got hung up on. Called back and got someone to schedule... another week out. Tech showed up, and recommended dishwasher for replacement. We contacted FA with the current model, etc. of the dishwasher we had (a higher end Kenmore), and they came back wanting to replace it with a very basic model Amana. Their website, emails, etc. state that they provide a replacement with similar features, and it was nowhere close to our current one. So we asked them to try again. Came back with a Kenmore that had a couple features, but once again nowhere near what is there.
We ended up going with the 3rd choice they gave because it was the closest of the 3. Still doesn't have everything our current one does, but better than them paying us a little over $300 to replace it ourselves (since they don't pay retail you don't get retail). Got an automated call late at night a couple days later that it would be delivered 7am-11am the next morning. Delivery company brings it in, decides that we don't have standard plumbing for the hookups, and they won't be liable for installing the new dishwasher. Left it sitting in our kitchen. My husband called FA back and we are currently waiting on them to attempt to schedule a plumber to install it. Claim opened 3/21... it is now 4/15 and we are still without a dishwasher. For a family of 5, it takes a good deal of time for us to hand wash everything, and who knows when it will be resolved. My first experience with FA has not been a pleasant one.

I looked for a home warranty to release some of the financial pressure and stress associated with having to deal with appliance and plumbing repairs. Submitting the claim is a fairly simple process. It's the actual going through the claim and the contractors that's tough. When initially filing the claim, you speak with a claims representative. They take all the information as far as what type of problem it is, whether it's plumbing or appliances. If it's appliance then what type of appliance it is and all that stuff so they can handle it with the contractor.
I've had many interactions with the contractors that came out. In general, the contractors are very low quality. The work could definitely be a lot better. I've had some really good ones, but most of the ones that are contracted with First American are unfortunately not the highest from a professional standpoint. Either they pay them very little or don't have very good contractors at all. Or if they were to get better contractors, they’d have to pay more so it’s something that probably don't look good from a revenue standpoint on their end.
If you're willing to work and fight tooth and nail for what you deserve in the claim process and you're detail-oriented, then I would definitely recommend First American. But if you're going through a claim and you're not willing to fight through what you deserve and follow up to make sure the contractors actually do their job, then make sure that you don't go with them because you're only going to be wasting money. I would still recommend First American to people, but it's not one of those warranties where a bunch of people come and hold your hand through the whole process. It’s a work kind of warranty.

I had another warranty before First American but I caught a couple of the people they were sending over lying to me about something they're going to do, etc. With First American, I've never had any issues. I've had a few different technicians sent to my home and all of them have been very nice guys. They do a good job and they are very good people. First American has been very quick to help me for any questions I have. They'd give me the phone number of the person they're going to send out, and they'd say, “Yes, I gave them your information. Give them an hour and call them and see,” before the technicians even call me.

My son uses First American way before I did. I thought it was a good idea to have this protection and so I went with them. I’ve had nothing but good to say about not only the people that I submit the claim to but the people they’ve sent to do work. The only thing that really bothers me is sometimes they take up to 24 hours to notify somebody. But other than that, I'm perfectly satisfied. Everyone I have dealt with has been very polite. The quality of work is amazing. I’m a real stickler for time. If I'm told 8 o’clock, I’d expect at 8 o’clock. The tech gave me a time and he was there before the time he gave me. The work was done in a very neat and timely manner.

First American had good ratings over other providers so I went with them. I'm very pleased that their claims process is easy and they always handle it very quickly. Also, I have nothing but positive things to say about their claims rep. I'm happy with them. Regarding the technicians, I've been pleased with all of them except the one from Presidio Plumbing. I told First American that if ever that plumber come back, I would cancel my contract. They told me that there is no way they could make a note of that so I need to tell them when I call for plumbing not to send that guy. He was unpleasant, weird and he gave my phone number out to someone who knew a lady who used to be a renter in my condo. The guy texted me all sorts of stuff the night after the plumber was here.
And the strange thing was on the receipt that I got from the plumber, where he had my phone number, he had the wrong phone number down. It looked like it had been changed to a different number. So if anybody comes back and say, “You must have given him the number,” he could say, “Oh well, I had it wrong.” However, he had to call me again the next day over something that he did not do that he was supposed to and he had the right number. It was stupid stuff and was shady and freaky. I said that he's the one that told me that he would come. I said to him that my garbage disposal was leaking. He checked it and he that it's broken and has a crack. I asked if he could fix it but he said he can't because it was an emergency call. I said it wasn't.
I called First American and they said that he should fix and replace it. They called and told him that he had to replace it. He came back and he was not happy about that. But he did replace it. Anyway, First American has taken really good care of me. It's just that one plumber. He's been here once before and I didn’t like the work he did. I didn’t like him at all. Everything else has been fine.

First American Home Buyers Protection is closer to us, it's legit and the service is very good. They were very fast and reliable when we filed a claim. The reps were very friendly, courteous and very professional. The techs are above average, try to do their best, and I don't remember them not calling or showing up on time. I would highly recommend First American. We are very happy with them.

One of my neighbors knew about home buyers protection and advised that we should get it. Also, it was to avoid big expenses when big ticket items went out. Submitting a claim was good most of the time but I had a bad experience just last month. I did it over the phone and the big problem is I couldn’t understand most of the reps. I guess they've outsourced that to another country. I talked to several men and I just couldn’t hardly understand them. Finally, I had a lady named Mildred and I could really understand her well. The work done had terrible quality. That’s why I had to keep calling. The service contractor was a Bosnian man and I couldn’t understand him either. The dishwasher had a leak and it wasn’t even two years old. The contractor replaced the seal or gasket that goes all around the front but it kept leaking.
Long story short, the last time he was here, he said, “You need a new dishwasher.” I really didn’t think I did but I was tired of messing with him. I then called back to First American and they got somebody from Sears out here. He knew the problem right away. The whole problem was the Bosnian guy had put the gasket in upside down. The Sears guy turned the gasket around, it didn’t leak, and everything was fine. Most of the time I was happy with First American. It was last time that took a month to get everything resolved. That was just so bad. Other than that, I'm happy with First American most of the time.

Calling First American Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 5:00 in North America is fine but if it's the weekend or beyond those hours, they transfer the calls to a call center overseas and I go into a world of HELL. It's painful. If I call, all they do is complain about more stuff. Life would be good if First American will fix the call center on the weekend and after 5 o'clock.

After asking the first representative on Sunday when placing the new claim for service on my saltwater pool if the specific component was covered and being told yes, they assigned my claim to someone named John who owned the AAA company. He calls me back and yells at me after I sent him the email of my pool equipment... Tried to cancel him with a representative Monday night who refused to do so and who got me so angry I finally told him I would have to hang up!
Finally, reassigned to another company on Wednesday, Elite, who won't call me or First Am back. It is now well over 48 hrs ago, but now First Am employee Mario refuses to call anyone else or give me an approved list so I can get someone out here. But he did offer to cancel the claim but when I asked to be transferred to get my money back for the whole year said, "Can't do it either, you have to write." Then when I asked for a supervisor today, Mario ABSOLUTELY REFUSED to transfer me to a supervisor and said he "couldn't promise" one would call me back... When I asked for the name of the CEO, he didn't know it.
Most frustrating experience... If you're thinking of using them don't. They mocked me on the phone by telling me my getting angry at him was bad for my health when he refused to get his supervisor, they refused to respond to reasonable requests such as who is the CEO so I can sue them for emotional abuse and failing to fulfill their contract... I would never in a million years recommend this company to anyone, except maybe my worst enemy!

We've got a rental property and we wanted to have a home warranty on it. We had a different warranty provider and had quite a number of problems with them such as getting them to deal with a broken washer in a timely manner. That was hard for the tenant and it made us feel like a deadbeat landlord. The people that they sent out weren't solving the problem and they had to come out numerous times, but nothing was ever fixed. Trying to get them to replace the washer when they said it couldn’t be fixed ended up taking six months. But with First American, we've been fine. It's gone all right with their technicians.

It can't get better than that. Also, all the technicians sent to my home have been good. I really am pleased with this company, and would recommend them.

First American was recommended to us. When we submit a claim online, they take it and turn it over to whoever the company is that they’re going to send out. They’ve got different companies for different things that might go wrong. They usually call us within 24 hours to confirm and set a time that they’re coming out. When they come out, we pay them $65 and they fix whatever needs fixing. They’ve been very professional. They’ve even replaced the washer for us with a brand-new one. The quality of their work has been excellent and we’ve always had great service. We would not consider making any changes because we don’t have problems. And if we don’t have problems, if it’s not broke, we don’t change it. We would recommend First American to our neighbors.

I've had First American out three to four times total. It's not always the response I would like, but they’ve been pretty quick about giving me a response back when I submit a claim.Talking with the claims rep has been pretty good. I've had a couple of instances when they weren’t as knowledgeable about the existing contract as they might have been, and so it caused some confusion with what is covered by the technician. In one episode, I was having a refrigerator repair. The technician insisted that it was not covered by the contract, and the associate at First American said that it was. After about an hour of discussion, they called back and told the technician not to fix it because they think they were wrong. Claims are handled in a timely manner but some of the options are limited. For instance, they’ve always sent Sears, and I've had countless experience with them. I haven't tried requesting anyone different. In general, the quality of their work has been good.

Having First American is smart because it's like renter's insurance, but better. First time we bought it, paid the year price. And then two months later, our compressor went out on our air conditioning unit and saved us a ton of money. I work for a maintenance program so I had one of our HVAC techs come over and look and he said it's gonna be about $3,500. I called the warranty company and told them about it. They sent a guy out, it was $66. I saved over $3,000 just in two months of being with them. So we just kept it and it's definitely worth it. The work they did has been good and 100% professional.
However, getting in contact is aggravating because sometimes I'm on the phone for an hour or more and I don't have that kind of time during the day to sit on the phone. Being an electrician, it's hard to give that time. But other times, it's been quick and I'm on the phone five or 10 minutes and I've already got the problem solved and they're sending somebody out. So I've been telling people that when they buy a new home, that they need to look into First American. It's definitely worth looking into.

If you submit the claim after hours there's this prompting thing or if you don't want to go through the prompts, you can talk to a person or you can submit it online. All of which are easy. They give the name of the people who are gonna take the claim and say that they're gonna call within 24 to 48 hours but they also give the contact information so that you can call earlier if you would like. Then usually they give a phone number for their system that you can follow-up with. Moreover, the technicians have always been really good. April 4, 2016, my toilet started leaking. So my husband turned the water at the source. The water didn't turn off. So I turned the water off at the street. This is an emergency because my family can't go without water. I have already called the warranty company and they tell me it will be 24 hours before they can get someone to come out. Really that is not an emergency response time. The first company they had assigned didn't even know they had been assigned to my problem, plus when I called them they couldn't come out till 4 days later. I kept calling the warranty company. Finally they had someone who could come out the next day in the late afternoon. Now they have him waiting a whole hour to get approval to do the work. Really, does anyone know what the word emergency means?
The reps kept apologizing and that they understood. No they didn't understand. They kept giving me the runaround. No one there was willing to put me through to someone who had any authority. My toilet still isn't fixed and my water is still off because I don't want to cause any further damage to my home. Oh and I had to pay for a hotel because I couldn't cook or shower or go to the bathroom in my own home.
This isn't the only issue I have had with them. March 21, 2016 called in to the warranty company. We just moved into this home and my washer and dryer decide not to work after being in storage for 6 months. So I call First American Home Buyer Protection company. They send someone out fairly quickly being this wasn't an emergency or anything. Some parts on both washer and dryer need to be replaced. Oh and he has the parts but the warranty company wants his company to use their supplier and they will be shipped to the repair company. That was 3 weeks ago. My washer and dryer still are not working.
The major problem is after a week my husband calls the repair company to see what's going and they inform him that the warranty company was supposed to order the parts, which they didn't. So my husband calls the warranty company and they were oh so sorry that they didn't get around to ordering the parts. Meanwhile I have had to go the laundry mat to do laundry. It's the fact that there is no sense of urgency or concern, just blatant apathy for our problems.

When we bought our house, the previous owners had provided a year of First American and we had kept it because our air conditioner's old and is going to die. I submit a claim online most of the time and don't have any issues with it. Most of the technicians they've sent have been very good. We've only had a bad experience with a plumber, but it wasn't a big deal. However, it seems like every time I put in a claim, something is not covered. For example, the kitchen sink was stopped completely and the plumber came out. Once he had to go up on the roof and go through the trap to release it, it no longer was covered. The garage door opener is another example where they took care of the motor but not the springs. They would take care of the big issue, but these little issues were not covered for. That seemed really stupid to me.

First American is one of the first home warranty companies that I know that are very reliable and fast. Whenever you need something, they always get you accommodated.
