My husband got to know about First American from a customer. Some of our claims worked very well but the one for the refrigerator was really bad. The fridge was out between Thanksgiving to Christmas. Their contractor didn't leave the house until they get paid and one time when we weren't home, my 14-year old son had paid one of the First American guys the $65 he said we didn't pay. Otherwise, they're very good, and they do good quality work. We are happy with First American, and always recommend them.

I've had First American for the first year that I had my house and I had a couple of things done by them and they were very good at it, so I renewed again. It was really simple to submit a claim - I go online, choose exactly what the work is and they’ll usually set me up with an appointment and get the contact the next day by a contractor to do the work. The latest contractor that came out for my AC was really nice and informative. He let me know everything I needed to know about what was wrong and he kept me well-informed and he got the job done quickly. The quality of the work that was done was great.

Submitting a claim whether online or over the phone was very easy, and their customer service has always been very helpful and friendly. Dealing with technicians is where we ran into a little bit of an issue. It’s hit or miss, and sometimes I’ve had to have them come out several times. On my recent claim, they were just rude and condescending when I first placed my claim with them. The pool repairs was bare minimum - only the filter was replaced, instead of the whole section, and that's why the issue kept happening again.
The contractor made me feel like an idiot or I've done something wrong just for placing a claim. I would have changed the call to ask First American to send somebody else out but I was desperate. It's been a problem that I've had two previous pool services fixed in the last year. It was over the 30 days so we couldn't call them back. I've had my house and pool for a long time, I've had my warranty for 13 years, stuff break and it's out of my control. The contractor made it sound like I wasn't doing my part as a homeowner.

The work done by the plumber that First American sent out was good. However, when I bought the policy I was not aware of what they were gonna cover. When people apply for an insurance policy, they should take more time in explaining in detail what it covers and what it doesn't rather than just quickly read off the script and say "Look, if you have to upgrade, we don't cover stuff like that". I feel that what I paid for the policy could have been better. I had a water heater underneath the house, but they no longer make that size so I had to get a taller water heater. But the new one wouldn't fit under the house, so I had to have it put outside and I had to buy a hut, etc. I understand upgrades aren't covered but I don't know why it didn't cover a water heater that they don't make anymore. So I had a $1,500 out-of-pocket expense.
I had to stay on top of the claim to make sure it got done because that could mean longer time with no water heater instead of what could be three days. I called every hour to get updated and find out where they're at because they gotta call the company I used to supply the water heater. It happened on a Sunday and it took all of that day for me to follow up. They came out on a Monday to look at it and said, "Well, we can't do anything today. We may be back in a couple of days." I had to push the claim to get their paperwork ready so they could put the water heater in the next day.

My real estate agent bought a home warranty service for me from First American when I bought the house. I was concerned that there would be things that needed to be fixed, and there have been a couple, so it worked out in my favor. It has been pretty good. The reps have been very courteous and helpful, and the technicians have been great at explaining what the situation is and getting the work done. The only problem I had was with the refrigerator, and that was with Sears, not First American, because they didn't have the right person come out the first time. I had to have somebody come out a second time. But that aside, I would recommend First American.

We moved into our home 3 months ago, and recently noticed water leaking into the basement from the dishwasher. I decided to utilize the home warranty we got and opened up a claim online. Two days went by and I didn't hear anything from FA, so I called the contractor they assigned like it said to do on the FA website. After being on the phone with them for a good 10 minutes, they told me they couldn't help me and to call FA back to have my appointment scheduled. Called FA, and they said they have to schedule the appointment (then why does it tell you to call the contractor on the website???). They asked how I filed my claim. When I told them online, they responded with "Oh, well if you would have called we would have scheduled your appointment right away." Sooo... online claim-filing is apparently useless.
Scheduled a week out for a tech from Sears to come look at the dishwasher. That day came (3pm-6pm window), and after 5 pm I got an automated call from Sears to reschedule. When I called they told me the tech had an emergency and we had to reschedule. Got hung up on. Called back and got someone to schedule... another week out. Tech showed up, and recommended dishwasher for replacement. We contacted FA with the current model, etc. of the dishwasher we had (a higher end Kenmore), and they came back wanting to replace it with a very basic model Amana. Their website, emails, etc. state that they provide a replacement with similar features, and it was nowhere close to our current one. So we asked them to try again. Came back with a Kenmore that had a couple features, but once again nowhere near what is there.
We ended up going with the 3rd choice they gave because it was the closest of the 3. Still doesn't have everything our current one does, but better than them paying us a little over $300 to replace it ourselves (since they don't pay retail you don't get retail). Got an automated call late at night a couple days later that it would be delivered 7am-11am the next morning. Delivery company brings it in, decides that we don't have standard plumbing for the hookups, and they won't be liable for installing the new dishwasher. Left it sitting in our kitchen. My husband called FA back and we are currently waiting on them to attempt to schedule a plumber to install it. Claim opened 3/21... it is now 4/15 and we are still without a dishwasher. For a family of 5, it takes a good deal of time for us to hand wash everything, and who knows when it will be resolved. My first experience with FA has not been a pleasant one.

I've lived in my home for just under two years. I have had five issues that were supposed to be covered under my homeowner's warranty. To date, one claim was partially satisfied, but only after a three-month period and multiple calls/emails. The contractors they have sent were adequate, but difficult to get scheduled. It takes a long time to get someone out and, unfortunately, in each case, more work needed to be done that required more money out of my pocket. For instance, I got $600 toward a water heater replacement that, when said and done, cost me an additional $1400. Money and time are important to me, but not to First American. I've paid for a policy that doesn't actually do what it needs to do. It looks good, but they are not helpful. Mostly what I hear from customer service is, "I'm sorry..."

The sellers of our current home had a First American warranty, and we continued it. The claims process is easy. The techs were professional and competent, and did their job well. Everything is working out the way it's supposed to. When there's a problem, I call and they send a competent technician to take care of it.

My five-year-old water heater stopped heating water. I called First American and they gave me a company who was nearby but the company's rating wasn’t good. I called them back and asked if there was an alternative company and they gave me another one who is even closer, a local here in Williamsburg. I looked them up and they had good ratings so I called and got an appointment with them and they came out as they had promised. The thermostat needed to be replaced. The repair gentleman was very cordial and efficient. He had it done in no time and our water was back to being hot again.

First American was good to work with. It's easy doing the claim submission online. Good customer service. However, I'm not crazy about the technicians. I have no choice to pick someone I'm comfortable with, but use who they choose for me. The installers do what they need to and don’t care about anything else.

We bought our home and my realtor provided a year's worth of insurance with First American and we've stuck with them. Everything's fair, we've had good service and have nothing negative to say about them. Filing a claim is quick, easy, and effective. Dealing with First American with the five claims we've submitted were very beneficial and successful. All the techs that came and the work done were good. The First America rep was professional when I phone in my fifth claim. However, it took a little bit longer before I've been contacted by the independent contractors.

I've had First American in California before and when I came down here in Texas, I picked it back up and renewed. The claims process is very easy. Usually, I call and tell them what's wrong. That same day, they may try to get someone out. If not, First American give my name to the contractor and in two days, the contractor is usually out to deal with the issue. So far, the technician that comes and the work he's done seem to be alright.

When we purchased the house four years ago, our agent introduced us to First American and I was satisfied with the previous things the company had to take care of, so we renewed with them. We had few claims but whatever we had we always submitted by the phone and there was a response within 24 hours. Then when an appointment was called, people always showed up within 24 hours as well. So within 48 hours, the issues were addressed. The techs were professional, courteous and always whatever they said they're worth. Overall, I had satisfaction.

It was pretty straightforward to submit a claim with First American. I did it over the phone and the voice prompts took me through everything. The technician came when he said he will and did the work that he was supposed to. If they didn't do the work I would have done it, and the work they have done was much better than what I would have been able to do. It would have been nice if the process was a little faster, but I understand that it took a little longer since I submitted the claim over a weekend.

Technician was on time and professional. He did several checks on our dryer. It has been taking a long time to dry and the low setting seemed to hardly work. He said that the diagnostics checked out and showed me the element heating up. He said it could possibly be the vent pipe and told me how to test it myself. So bottom line is while they were nice and professional I still have the same issue.

This has to be the worst warranty company ever. Paid for a home warranty and they can never get a tech. out to cover the service or service area. It will take over a month to find a tech. or just told to try and find my own. I pay for a service for a reason. Had refrigerator go out in August of 2015 and it took November of 2015 to get it fixed. Now my dryer heating element went out and I'm told it could take over a month to get somebody to look at it. Will be cancelling this warranty and finding a new company that actually cares about their customers!

Our realtor got First American for us when we moved in this house. We've had them for almost 13 years now and we haven't been disappointed yet. Thank you for being a loyal customer, Susan.

I went with First American because they covered pools. I've submitted five claims, three of them went very well. The last two claims have not been completely resolved and it's been several months now. One was submitted online and other one was submitted over the phone. The rep on the phone was perfectly fine and did a good job. The technician came out for one of the last two issues and he's the same technician that's supposed to be working on both of the issues but he seems to be missing in action, so First American is trying to resolve that.

First American Home Buyers Protection was the insurance that was used when we bought our house and I'm extremely happy with them. They're very prompt. It was very simple filing a claim over the phone. Their rep was amazing, very professional and straight to the point. It felt good that somebody was on our side versus us trying to prove a point about what was going on. The tech they sent had been here before. After everything was said and done, he came in like there was nothing going on. When he did the work, he was great but he lacked customer service. At the end of the day, it was the fact that taking it to that point was a little too extreme. In the future, that'll be something that First American needs to look for because every technician and company is not the same and they need to make sure that the company that they're bringing in are professional.

I looked for a home warranty to release some of the financial pressure and stress associated with having to deal with appliance and plumbing repairs. Submitting the claim is a fairly simple process. It's the actual going through the claim and the contractors that's tough. When initially filing the claim, you speak with a claims representative. They take all the information as far as what type of problem it is, whether it's plumbing or appliances. If it's appliance then what type of appliance it is and all that stuff so they can handle it with the contractor.
I've had many interactions with the contractors that came out. In general, the contractors are very low quality. The work could definitely be a lot better. I've had some really good ones, but most of the ones that are contracted with First American are unfortunately not the highest from a professional standpoint. Either they pay them very little or don't have very good contractors at all. Or if they were to get better contractors, they’d have to pay more so it’s something that probably don't look good from a revenue standpoint on their end.
If you're willing to work and fight tooth and nail for what you deserve in the claim process and you're detail-oriented, then I would definitely recommend First American. But if you're going through a claim and you're not willing to fight through what you deserve and follow up to make sure the contractors actually do their job, then make sure that you don't go with them because you're only going to be wasting money. I would still recommend First American to people, but it's not one of those warranties where a bunch of people come and hold your hand through the whole process. It’s a work kind of warranty.

I had another warranty before First American but I caught a couple of the people they were sending over lying to me about something they're going to do, etc. With First American, I've never had any issues. I've had a few different technicians sent to my home and all of them have been very nice guys. They do a good job and they are very good people. First American has been very quick to help me for any questions I have. They'd give me the phone number of the person they're going to send out, and they'd say, “Yes, I gave them your information. Give them an hour and call them and see,” before the technicians even call me.

My son uses First American way before I did. I thought it was a good idea to have this protection and so I went with them. I’ve had nothing but good to say about not only the people that I submit the claim to but the people they’ve sent to do work. The only thing that really bothers me is sometimes they take up to 24 hours to notify somebody. But other than that, I'm perfectly satisfied. Everyone I have dealt with has been very polite. The quality of work is amazing. I’m a real stickler for time. If I'm told 8 o’clock, I’d expect at 8 o’clock. The tech gave me a time and he was there before the time he gave me. The work was done in a very neat and timely manner.

First American had good ratings over other providers so I went with them. I'm very pleased that their claims process is easy and they always handle it very quickly. Also, I have nothing but positive things to say about their claims rep. I'm happy with them. Regarding the technicians, I've been pleased with all of them except the one from Presidio Plumbing. I told First American that if ever that plumber come back, I would cancel my contract. They told me that there is no way they could make a note of that so I need to tell them when I call for plumbing not to send that guy. He was unpleasant, weird and he gave my phone number out to someone who knew a lady who used to be a renter in my condo. The guy texted me all sorts of stuff the night after the plumber was here.
And the strange thing was on the receipt that I got from the plumber, where he had my phone number, he had the wrong phone number down. It looked like it had been changed to a different number. So if anybody comes back and say, “You must have given him the number,” he could say, “Oh well, I had it wrong.” However, he had to call me again the next day over something that he did not do that he was supposed to and he had the right number. It was stupid stuff and was shady and freaky. I said that he's the one that told me that he would come. I said to him that my garbage disposal was leaking. He checked it and he that it's broken and has a crack. I asked if he could fix it but he said he can't because it was an emergency call. I said it wasn't.
I called First American and they said that he should fix and replace it. They called and told him that he had to replace it. He came back and he was not happy about that. But he did replace it. Anyway, First American has taken really good care of me. It's just that one plumber. He's been here once before and I didn’t like the work he did. I didn’t like him at all. Everything else has been fine.

One of my neighbors knew about home buyers protection and advised that we should get it. Also, it was to avoid big expenses when big ticket items went out. Submitting a claim was good most of the time but I had a bad experience just last month. I did it over the phone and the big problem is I couldn’t understand most of the reps. I guess they've outsourced that to another country. I talked to several men and I just couldn’t hardly understand them. Finally, I had a lady named Mildred and I could really understand her well. The work done had terrible quality. That’s why I had to keep calling. The service contractor was a Bosnian man and I couldn’t understand him either. The dishwasher had a leak and it wasn’t even two years old. The contractor replaced the seal or gasket that goes all around the front but it kept leaking.
Long story short, the last time he was here, he said, “You need a new dishwasher.” I really didn’t think I did but I was tired of messing with him. I then called back to First American and they got somebody from Sears out here. He knew the problem right away. The whole problem was the Bosnian guy had put the gasket in upside down. The Sears guy turned the gasket around, it didn’t leak, and everything was fine. Most of the time I was happy with First American. It was last time that took a month to get everything resolved. That was just so bad. Other than that, I'm happy with First American most of the time.

After asking the first representative on Sunday when placing the new claim for service on my saltwater pool if the specific component was covered and being told yes, they assigned my claim to someone named John who owned the AAA company. He calls me back and yells at me after I sent him the email of my pool equipment... Tried to cancel him with a representative Monday night who refused to do so and who got me so angry I finally told him I would have to hang up!
Finally, reassigned to another company on Wednesday, Elite, who won't call me or First Am back. It is now well over 48 hrs ago, but now First Am employee Mario refuses to call anyone else or give me an approved list so I can get someone out here. But he did offer to cancel the claim but when I asked to be transferred to get my money back for the whole year said, "Can't do it either, you have to write." Then when I asked for a supervisor today, Mario ABSOLUTELY REFUSED to transfer me to a supervisor and said he "couldn't promise" one would call me back... When I asked for the name of the CEO, he didn't know it.
Most frustrating experience... If you're thinking of using them don't. They mocked me on the phone by telling me my getting angry at him was bad for my health when he refused to get his supervisor, they refused to respond to reasonable requests such as who is the CEO so I can sue them for emotional abuse and failing to fulfill their contract... I would never in a million years recommend this company to anyone, except maybe my worst enemy!

I've had a couple of instances when they weren’t as knowledgeable about the existing contract as they might have been, and so it caused some confusion with what is covered by the technician. In one episode, I was having a refrigerator repair. The technician insisted that it was not covered by the contract, and the associate at First American said that it was. After about an hour of discussion, they called back and told the technician not to fix it because they think they were wrong. Claims are handled in a timely manner but some of the options are limited. For instance, they’ve always sent Sears, and I've had countless experience with them. Having First American is smart because it's like renter's insurance, but better. First time we bought it, paid the year price. And then two months later, our compressor went out on our air conditioning unit and saved us a ton of money. I work for a maintenance program so I had one of our HVAC techs come over and look and he said it's gonna be about $3,500. I called the warranty company and told them about it. They sent a guy out, it was $66. I saved over $3,000 just in two months of being with them. So we just kept it and it's definitely worth it. The work they did has been good and 100% professional.
However, getting in contact is aggravating because sometimes I'm on the phone for an hour or more and I don't have that kind of time during the day to sit on the phone. Being an electrician, it's hard to give that time. But other times, it's been quick and I'm on the phone five or 10 minutes and I've already got the problem solved and they're sending somebody out. April 4, 2016, my toilet started leaking. So my husband turned the water at the source. The water didn't turn off. So I turned the water off at the street. This is an emergency because my family can't go without water. I have already called the warranty company and they tell me it will be 24 hours before they can get someone to come out. Really that is not an emergency response time. The first company they had assigned didn't even know they had been assigned to my problem, plus when I called them they couldn't come out till 4 days later. I kept calling the warranty company. Finally they had someone who could come out the next day in the late afternoon. Now they have him waiting a whole hour to get approval to do the work. Really, does anyone know what the word emergency means?
The reps kept apologizing and that they understood. No they didn't understand. They kept giving me the runaround. No one there was willing to put me through to someone who had any authority. My toilet still isn't fixed and my water is still off because I don't want to cause any further damage to my home. Oh and I had to pay for a hotel because I couldn't cook or shower or go to the bathroom in my own home.
This isn't the only issue I have had with them. March 21, 2016 called in to the warranty company. We just moved into this home and my washer and dryer decide not to work after being in storage for 6 months. So I call First American Home Buyer Protection company. They send someone out fairly quickly being this wasn't an emergency or anything. Some parts on both washer and dryer need to be replaced. Oh and he has the parts but the warranty company wants his company to use their supplier and they will be shipped to the repair company. That was 3 weeks ago. My washer and dryer still are not working.
The major problem is after a week my husband calls the repair company to see what's going and they inform him that the warranty company was supposed to order the parts, which they didn't. So my husband calls the warranty company and they were oh so sorry that they didn't get around to ordering the parts. Meanwhile I have had to go the laundry mat to do laundry. It's the fact that there is no sense of urgency or concern, just blatant apathy for our problems.

When we bought our house, the previous owners had provided a year of First American and we had kept it because our air conditioner's old and is going to die. I submit a claim online most of the time and don't have any issues with it. Most of the technicians they've sent have been very good. We've only had a bad experience with a plumber, but it wasn't a big deal. However, it seems like every time I put in a claim, something is not covered. For example, the kitchen sink was stopped completely and the plumber came out. Once he had to go up on the roof and go through the trap to release it, it no longer was covered. The garage door opener is another example where they took care of the motor but not the springs. They would take care of the big issue, but these little issues were not covered for. That seemed really stupid to me.

I'm not the type of person who believes in home warranties because sometimes they don't want to come and end up leaving you to deal with a lot of stuff. But I got a house which wasn't brand new, and I didn't know what problems that home had in the past so I got a home warranty to be safe. First American is one of the first home warranty companies that I know that are very reliable and fast. Whenever you need something, they always get you accommodated. They have excellent claims process with professional and friendly techs. There have been a few occasions where they needed to come back, like in the last claim I had where I called because my dryer is still making a noise, and I'm still waiting for their call. But apart from that, service is fair.

This company has SERIOUS SYSTEMIC FLAWS which end up costing customers A LOT of time, frustration, and in the case for customers who do not stand up for themselves, MONEY. I am not an unreasonable person, but this company has me at my wit's end. This is the first ever negative review I write - that says a whole lot! 2 out of 3 of the claims I filed during the one year I had this warranty resulted in major headaches, hassles, and A LOT of wasted time dealing with extremely long hold periods and unprofessional, UNPLEASANT representatives.
The first time they PAID THE CONTRACTOR AND BILLED ME ALTHOUGH THE WORK WAS NEVER COMPLETED (contractor came out, looked at our roof, said he'd be back to complete the work, and never came back). When I called to resolve it, they were extremely rude and GAVE ME THE BURDEN OF PROOF, telling me to pay another contractor to give me written proof that the work had not been done (Hello! How about asking contractor for a signed invoice where customer verifies work was done?). To top it all off, I was on hold for at least 50 minutes (per phone call - it took at least 2 separate calls to finally resolve it) and the customer service representatives (and supervisor) were incredibly unpleasant, impatient, and unwilling to work with me in the process.
The second time, I put in a work order for my air conditioner and IT TOOK ALMOST THREE MONTHS for it to finally be completed. I paid the contractor upon completion, and First American BILLED ME AGAIN because they had no record of my payment! Again, putting in due diligence on their end to track down my payment, they said it would be easier if I drove to an office supply store and paid for fax service to send them my copy of the invoice - really? Easier for them for sure, but not for me! This company has some deep, systematic flaws and customer service (dare I say, satisfaction) has nothing to do with it. I cannot believe they are getting away with treating customers like this!

For my hot water heater, he just walked in, took a picture of the label and said, "You need to replace it." They were trumping up all these charges over $500 out-of-pocket to replace the hot water heater, so I had them come back out and assess the elements. And then I did the cash-out and did it on my own. In the end, their contractor did not perform the work so I hired somebody else.

Also, the quality of the work has always been good. However I had a disagreement with the cost involved in some of the repairs where the repair company was from some distance away. I knew that there were closer companies and it would be less expensive, travel-wise, for First American to use the closer companies. Despite that, First American’s policy required that certain companies be called to the do the work.
In addition, I had one disagreement with the technician. We had a ceiling fan go out and it had remote control. The policy said that remote controls were not covered. My argument was that the only way this fan worked was with the remote control and it could not work manually or with a light switch. The disagreement was never solved so I gave up on it.

I was with this company for over 3 years. I only used them a few times. Stopped up drain, garage door opener. But what I noticed is they use substandard vendors, and when you call in, the wait time is unacceptable. Their representatives' first language is not English. They are rude and not customer oriented. My last experience was I had no hot water. It was during a windy time in L.A. The vendor Four Elements Plumbing, came out the next afternoon, gave me a hour ahead of time call as I'd requested to leave work, lit the pilot. That night no hot water. I called FAH and was told by the supervisor, Brandon **, ext **, that he did not deem it an emergency, even though I would have to take off work another day to deal with this.
Next morning I called Four Elements and was told that they were scheduled for the day and I would be able to get a 1-5 p.m. window. I explained that was unacceptable to me as I needed to get into work that day. I was told they would try. I went to breakfast and received a phone call that they were at my house. I told the rep from Four Seasons that I would be about an hour. He said no worries. When I arrived at the house they were there. It was three this time. They brought a supervisor. (For a water heater.) I tried to explain that I thought it was more to it than the pilot to which I received dirty looks and rude comments. Basically, mind your own business. And was also told that they can't just give me a new hot water heater, they have to go through the process. Okay. That's fine, I explained. But if a new hot water heater was needed, I'd like to upgrade to a tankless one.
They lit the pilot and I was told they were taking lunch. (REALLY?) They were gone for over 2 hours. I called their office and was told by their personnel that she would try to find them. The supervisor returned shortly thereafter alone. I asked him why he had taken over 2 hours to which he replied it was his time, and they had waited for me for over an hour that morning. I told him he was a jerk. He went into my backyard, came back out, got in his truck, made a phone call, and when I asked him if he was going to finish the job he told me no. Not today. I called FAH and after 20 minutes wait for a supervisor, explained the situation, to which he was unapologetic.
I requested my $65 back and was told he could not do that. I asked that my contract be terminated. He said he couldn't do that either. I cancelled via email this morning. FAH is a lousy company, with lousy customer service and lousy vendors. I'd rather take my chances and find my own vendors from here on out. I may try American Home Shield, but I'm wary of using any other of these programs after this. BEWARE!!!

I clearly have not had the same experience some of you guys have. I have had home warranties in the past and after having some health issues decided I was going to purchase one again. In fact, I purchased one on both of my homes. This company is by far the most expensive. They will be upfront about that. However, they say you are buying their great customer service. I understand that each company is different however when shopping please be aware that with this company they will not approve the service work immediately. With other companies, someone comes out, they diagnose the problem, call it in, get it approved, and fix the problem. This company does not do that. They require the company to come out, leave, send in a report within 2 days, and then if they approve it, they order parts and then come back.
This means that the consumer MUST spend at least 2 days at home with a tech. But more importantly it will be a minimum of 1 week and "up to 4 weeks" (if they have to get parts) to get the item fixed. The company has 2 days to call you, it took him 3 days to show up, it will take 2 days for him to submit the report, a day to get the parts (however, I was just told it will take up to 3 weeks to find a part and since it can be fixed they will not replace it), it takes another 2 days to get them back. Now this was a minor appliance. I guess I can live without a microwave for a month. However, what if it was a pipe leak, electrical problem, hot water heater, or worse an AC unit in the middle of our 110 degree summers?
As for that customer service you are buying... when I called to find out how and what we need to do to speed this up as I had to take a day off of work thinking we were going to resolve this today, they definitely did NOT provide good customer service. I was transfer 4 times and everyone told me they are so sorry, but this is company policy and can't help. Plus every time you are transferred you are put on hold for 10+ minutes. I am trying very hard to not sound like someone who is just complaining but, instead, I just thinking consumers need to know that this is a major difference from other companies.

This is HUGE LOOPHOLE permitting the warranty company the choice of declining the claim based on the convenient Pre-Existing Conditions clause. The homeowner will find his word against the home warranty's service technician. Certainly, the homeowner will lose if the technician finds a pre-existing condition or other unforeseen situation, as the warranty company always goes with the word of their technician!

Two weeks later after calling again was told it was not a warranty item. I complained a second time, told them the anode was bad and needs replacement along with heater. They sent the same plumber out. He then changed out thermostat. Heater may be working but cannot run long enough due to the odors from a failed anode. Called again. Was told smells are not covered. I explained that the anode is part of the hot water heater. The purpose is to provide Cathodic protection. When failed it generates hydrogen sulfide gas (odors).
First American Home Buyers Protection is not a reputable company. They are not willing to provide the needed repairs as outlined in their protection brochure or policy. I wish I could supply an air sample. No one can enter the bathroom if the hot water is run for 30 seconds. The odor lingers, taking several minutes to vacate using a fan. The representative said that the original plumber would not replace the anode, so if it cannot be done, then the unit should be replaced. Sending a second plumber out will do no good if they do not replace the anode. The anode is a $22 to 25 part, which can be easily replaced from the top.

This is by far the worst experience we have ever had with a company. Called Friday 3-18 at noon our time because our garage door had broken and would not always close. This happened right after I had a local heating company tune up our furnace. Heating company tells us that the heat exchanger is cracked and leaking carbon monoxide into the house, so of course they red-tag the furnace. Red-tag means that unit is unsafe and cannot be used. Rep was aware that we had NO HEAT when I called on Friday and was aware that garage could not be closed and therefore I was unable to provide my family with a safe warm place to live. Rep assures me that I will be contacted and someone will be out A.S.A.P. to fix garage door because we couldn't close it. I guess my idea of A.S.A.P. is different from theirs because 24 hours later my garage is still broken and I had yet to talk to a repair person.
I call First American back and they tell me that they don't have a company that works on garage doors, but it is covered... What? You couldn't tell me that when I filed the claim on the phone the day before? Ok, I figure whatever. Called and had a local company out to repair it at my own cost and have been assured that what I have paid out of pocket will be reimbursed via check 7 to 14 days after they process the claim form that I can't find to print out and fax the invoice along with the form back to them.
Now to the furnace... NO HEAT when I called in and filed the claim. It's cold out and we have small children. Nobody called us until MONDAY MORNING to get out to fix furnace. Remember I told the rep exactly what was wrong with furnace, that it came from a very reputable local service company. They send somebody out who spends almost 3 hours to verify that the exchanger was cracked and there was carbon monoxide coming back through the vents. Now he has to send a report back to First American and wait for them to approve the repair (replacement of furnace) Keep in mind that this is all stuff I had already told them. I could have easily faxed them the report and recommendation from the company we had service the furnace in the first place. Instead they waste time and do it this way.
Monday was day 4 with NO HEAT. Temps are in the 30s at night and mid 50s during the day. My house is FREEZING. After talking with them several times today I have been informed that it will take 24 to 48 hours for them to buy the furnace and another 24 to 48 hours for them to ship it to their contractor to install it. We have another 2 to 4 days with no heat. Today is day 5 with no heat. The only answers I get from their "Customer Service" are them telling me to be patient and "we will get to you when we get to you." I was hung up on, placed on hold for twenty minutes waiting to speak to somebody. All I want is a working furnace so I can keep my family warm. Is that such a terrible thing to ask for? Apparently it is if you are dealing with First American.

Meanwhile we considering to cancel this contract.

After submitting a claim on Thursday, 3/10/16 the contractor came in and made an online order for the broken part for the washer machine on Monday, 3/14/16. He told me that it usually takes 3-5 business days to get a part. I called him on Friday 3/18/16 to heard he didn't get the part yet, and hopefully on next Monday he will get it. I waited with patience till Tuesday 3/22/16, the contractor didn't get the part YET after 5 business days passed already, so called to First American to check what is going on.
The representative told me that no one didn't see the online order for the broken part, so he just submitted the order for a process! NO ONE CHECKED ONLINE ORDERS FOR MORE THAN A WEEK! And now I have to wait additional 5 business days to get the part, and I have two kids at home and a lot of laundry! I requested to be transferred to the manager/supervisor, was on hold for 46 minutes, and then they just hanged up the phone. No manager to answer the phone, no solutions to resolve their mistakes (like to send the part by next day shipping), nothing... I think they hoped I will forget about the claim and will not call to check the issue, so they can save money by not ordering the part. Such a poor customer service. Would not recommend to anyone.

First American was the warranty company for the house that we bought in California. They had the same coverage with other warranty companies but their yearly rate and service charge were much less. The only problem is when I called them this morning, I was a little bummed because they upped their service fee from $75 to $95 in Virginia but they said that's because they're choosing higher quality people who are doing the work in Virginia, which I understand. It still didn't make it as wonderful but other than that, I'm very happy with it. It's come in handy and I have recommended them to other people a lot.

I really have no complaints about First Americans' service. However, I just found out the hard way that when you request service on line, it not checked to be certain that the service requested is covered. Therefore you will end up paying the service charge for not receiving service. AND I didn't even get a receipt for the service charge that I paid for.

The convenience of having a warranty seems better than not having some type of protection at all. We were told about First American by the person who sold the house, and First American's response had been great. I called several other people and couldn't even get a call back. They didn't tell me exactly what they do. But with First American, the person who picked up the phone talked to me like I was already a member.
When my air conditioner went out one summer, it took forever for someone to get out. The person said that they can't go out until 3 three weeks, but she said she was going to expedite things and someone came within two days. The guy who came was the same guy who fixed my dishwasher and he did a wonderful job. He is personable, and explained everything that was happening. He gave me some suggestions of some more things that I needed to get fixed around the house which he didn't even have to do. He asked me if I wanted to go ahead and look at it and when I said no, he told me I could do it myself and told me what to do. The last time I called was about the garage door. They sent me a company and the company didn't work out. So they sent another person out to have it done. I’ve always been satisfied with all the work that everybody that First American sent out to us. I would recommend them all the time.

I have First American since I bought my house and that's some 14 years. At the time, I was really young and my agent said that this was the best way because if I can't fix something and I'm in a budget it can cost me. It was $40 for a service call back then so if anything ever goes out, it's going to cost me more to have a particular person come to my home. First American also gives me the peace of mind that I don't have to pay an arm and a leg to get something fixed and repaired. And the company has surprised me. They've replaced things and I love it.
It's much easier to submit a claim with them now. I'm very old school because I still call although I know there are other avenues. But even if I call, they're still quick so I like it. The reps are very nice, polite, understanding and cooperative. First American also takes responsibility for the people they send out. The technicians have been great, and the ones who haven't been, I never see them again. I love the way they take responsibility for cleaning stuff they have done and they're quick and ready to go. The quality of their work is also very good. I'm very happy with the company and I enjoy their service and how they work. I've stayed with them because it's been a great experience. I recommend them to everyone I know and always tell them, "Hey, if you don't have it, you should get it".

When we purchased the house, we got a three-year warranty on the house and it was about to expire. It had helped out as far as ACs and water heaters breaking, so we decided to extend it. Submitting claims with First American is easy. They're always nice and straightforward. Depending on which company was coming, our experiences with the technicians vary. I've had technicians that show and I've had to cash out on one of the claims where they gave the rest of the money so I could fix it myself because the technicians were that unreliable. And then I've also had really good technicians. It would be nice if First American have a well technician in the valley.

We've had to use First American for 3 separate claims on a home we purchased in 2015. The first claim took more than 3 months to complete, without determining the issue. We've had two additional claims that are currently pending. The contractors assigned lack professionalism. They promise to be at your home at a certain time, yet have failed to arrive on time. They do not call or notify you when they are delayed. It has taken several calls to their customer service and the issues have not been resolved. I will not renew my contract with them or refer them to anyone. We have not seen the benefit of having a protection plan.

I've been in my house for 28 years and have First American all along. I absolutely would not change. It doesn't matter if it's a problem with the pool, the washer and dryer, the stove or the refrigerator. I don't have that worry who to call and how much it is going to cost. They take perfect care of me. I would call them and they'd send someone to come. That person calls me, makes the appointment, and everything is taken care of. If it's not repairable, they replace it.
Everyone they sent out has been good except for the last plumber. He was horrible. He said that the problem will cost me $7000 but I didn't believe him. I ended up calling another company and paid them out of my pocket - they took care of the issue. I called First American and let them know what happened and they got part of my money back. Last January, our heat pump wasn’t working and it was cold in the house. I called First American and all I got was a recording. The automated recording asked what the problem was and I said, "No heat, no heat" but the system could not understand me. It finally said that it couldn't find anybody and to call back the next day. I was not happy but I can understand because it was cold and there were people that have problems in the cold so we had to talk to the computer but we don't want to talk to a computer.
We had to go out and buy a wood stove, so at least we'd have some heat. We had the fireplace then the wood burner and it got warmer but not much. I called back the next day and it said, “If you don’t hear from us within 24 hours, call us back.” So I called back the next day and they answered, gave us a work order number and somebody showed up the next day. They needed some parts and got it fixed. We went two and a half days without much heat.
Last week we had a water leak in the basement. I called them and they came out the next day. The turnaround time was much better this time. Their reps have been courteous and friendly but I don’t mean to be nasty or prejudiced, but they need to get people that speak English because I can’t understand some of them. But if it's with some agent, then we can talk clearly what's the problem. The technicians that came to our home were friendly and answered all our questions. However, I had a problem with the technician last time for my heating and cooling. They checked everything and it was not fixed so I had to call them again and the timeframe they provided was a little longer. There was no heat in the house and I had to suffer in the cold. I've had First American since 2008 and stayed with them for years because whenever I have to call them, they come out and I don't get a big headache from it. I call and tell them what's wrong, and they come out and fix or replace the unit that's not working. When I first moved into this house, I got the home warranty established on it. A week or so later, the water heater went out. I wanted a bigger water heater and they sent me a check and said, "This is how much we're gonna cover. You go buy whatever it is you want." At the time, I had nine people living in the house, with four bathrooms and two kitchens, so I needed a lot of hot water. So I went from a 45 gallon to an 80 gallon water heater.
But sometimes it takes a little longer than I would like to get things back to normal. I had a refrigerator in my kitchen that was out of commission for a month and I wasn't happy about that. And then the people that delivered the refrigerator were not the people that were supposed to install the refrigerator. They said they couldn't bring the refrigerator into our house because they're not allowed to take it out of the box, and because of the size of the box, it wouldn't come through the door, so it has to go in our garage. I said, "Fine, I'll take it out of the box," but they'll have to put it in the house, not in the garage. Finally, they took it out of the box but by then I was upset over that. Then it took almost a week for the person who puts the handles on the refrigerator, puts it in place, and hooks the little water pipe up to the back to come out.
And I've had two refrigerators that have been replaced by First American, and both of them took from a month to a month and a half to get back in running order. That's ridiculous! The first one was my garage refrigerator. There had been an electrical fire in the freezer compartment and the guy came out, took the ref apart, and then said, "I'm not putting this back together. You can't use this refrigerator." The refrigerator part worked fine, but I said okay. But the ref was left all torn up for a week and a half.
Then the home warranty called and asked me to measure where the refrigerator is going. I said I don't need to measure it since the size of it doesn't matter, even if it's different. But they insisted that I needed to measure, so I did a fake measurement to comply. When they actually came out and delivered the refrigerator, they brought a whole different refrigerator because they couldn't come up with the size that we had, so they had to go with the next size bigger. It was frustrating because it was a month and a half that that refrigerator was out of commission.
When the third refrigerator under my warranty wasn't working, the guy came out, walked in with the part and replaced it, and the refrigerator worked fine. I'm glad he replaced the part. But the refrigerator is very old so eventually, it's going to go out. And then, we might have to again deal with a month and a half without a refrigerator.
So I think First American needs to do something with their prioritization. A refrigerator is an essential piece of equipment in the house. It keeps the family's food. When it's a kitchen refrigerator, there should be a priority to it, but First American doesn't seem to think so because both two out of the three refrigerators that I had worked on were kitchen refrigerators. My mother and father-in-law lived downstairs in our house. They're all my appliances and covered under my warranty, but it's her kitchen, so she had to come upstairs, go out into the garage where the spare refrigerator is to get to her things, and that's not convenient at all.
They eventually did replace one of the refrigerators and fix the other one, but it took a week or more to get a technician to even come out and look at the refrigerator. I asked the lady rep if they had a date sooner than that, and she said, "No, sir." So they need to put a priority where a service technician comes out in a couple of days to fix the refrigerator if it's completely out of service and not cooling. I was trying to tell that to the rep on the phone and she said, "There's nothing I can do, sir." I've got one refrigerator left that's old and hopefully I don't have to replace that one for a while.
So those two instances with refrigerator problems were terrible. But they've done other things where they've been good and either fixed or replaced the unit right away. In the last house that I lived in, we had a problem with our dishwasher and the guy came out, looked at it, and said, "This is broken. We can't fix this," and a week later, we had a new dishwasher.

Since November of 2015, I've been with First American, and I’ve only submitted one claim, which is for a refrigerator. It was fairly easy and the technicians were rude. They broke something and they said it was because it was installed incorrectly. And because they say it was installed incorrectly, First American said they’re not responsible for fixing that and neither is the company. I had a friend do it exactly the way it was and it's working fine, but I thought it was pretty crappy.
First American sent one company who said the issue was with the compressor, but they don’t work on those. They then sent another company to replace the compressor, and the technician said it’s the motherboard and not the compressor, so they brought a motherboard, put it in, and then said that I need a new compressor. I told him that it was what the first company said. He said he wasn’t able to tell that until he had power. It didn’t have power and I asked how was he able to say it didn’t need it if it didn’t have power. He was idiotic, was making things up as he went along, had an attitude and I didn’t appreciate it. Overall, my experience with First American was okay, but I never want that contractor company in my house again.

The only experience, out of a dozen, that I was really disappointed with happened about seven or eight years ago. My oven went out and it took about three months to get it repaired. They were waiting for a part which took them a very long time to get. First American wasn’t willing to buy me a new oven so that was very difficult. When we bought the condo, we had asked for some things to be replaced, and they bought a warranty from First American for us instead. We had some good and some bad experiences with submission of claims. The good, there is a phenomenal employee who can get things done remarkably well. Normally when we call in, they will say they'll get back to us, and they don't necessarily do so. But when I give this employee a call, someone gets back to us, and that has been great.
One of the other issues that I have is that First American tends to go with the Sears repair as their first go-to ones, which we've had nothing but bad luck every single time. We had a dryer they had to come in on, and the first time they came, the guy explained something, said that he wasn't going to touch it, and then left. We called again and then they sent somebody else who looked at it and didn't do anything. So they called another technician who started making a list of things that needed to be done, and ended up replacing it.
Also, with Sears, they always call me, and not my tenant, even though I gave them my tenant's name and number so they can arrange for things. Then they'll just make up their own time as to when they're going to send the repairman even if I don't have anybody available for that. I live in a different city, so it's not always easy for me to get there. The quality of the work has been good, but my exception has been Sears. Usually it will start with Sears and then they will give up, and someone else will come in to take care of things and get it done really well. We had Bob's Appliance do a great job for us. A plumber also came in and did some stuff for us. Sears has been my only objection. Overall, it's good, but have patience.

The lady that sold us the house back in 2001 has First American and she talked about how it worked and how convenient it was when something breaks down. For a whole year, they had me round and round with my range. They're not local so we have to wait two weeks for an appointment and they were very rude. They ruined my Thanksgiving, my Christmas and New Year. They never got the range fixed. So I went to somebody else and they told me there was nothing they could do but replace the whole thing.
My second bad experience was with the swimming pool equipment. One guy came out and told me that I have to redo my whole electricity when it really wasn't the issue. Finally, somebody else came and they realized that the pump was no good. So they replaced the pump, and everything's working fine ever since. I spent $180 out of my pocket getting another pump, and I also spent $600 on running new electricity from the main box to where the pump is at. I called to try to get reimbursed and their staff said they never authorized it, so there was nothing I was able to do. But so far, the quality of the work has been okay.

First American isn't as bad as all the reviews, although their services are not always good on average. I've had some bad experiences with some of the companies that they contract with, but it eventually gets resolved. Also, I like the fact that First American doesn't continue to charge me for the same issue that's not resolved. I file a claim online, and it's good. However, I wish there were more options to make a choice, as opposed to just getting whoever is next on the list. But the process itself is very easy. The techs have been very good, professional, and informative. I've only had maybe three bad experiences.
I had an issue that took me several times to resolve. I had an arcing transformer on my electrical box, and various options were provided that didn't address the problem at all. It was very scary, and no one caught that until the third electrician came in. He immediately said I've got a problem where all the switches are, and replaced it. Everything has been fine since then. I think about this issue that might have caused a fire, and I'm really unhappy with the first two electricians who said there was nothing that could be done about it and that it was to be expected. That was the bad experience. But, it ended good. I've had that on a number of occasions, with the few little issues that I've had, but the problems were resolved and I was very happy with that.
Hopefully in the future, the ability of the insurance to weed out the bad service providers gets a little better. I know they can't do that a lot, especially if people like me don't say it. Overall, it's been very easy, convenient, relatively inexpensive, depending on the issue, and I'm happy. I not only went ahead and continued the policy for the second year, but I also added other things to the policy because I was so happy with the service I got.

Submitting claims to First American is fairly simple, however, getting them or their contractor to call us back seems to be where the issue lies. Most times, we get an email that says the contractor will call us within 48 hours, and it takes right at the two-day mark. Like this past time, our AC went out and we didn’t have any heat; two days without it with a brand new baby is super tough. We feel like the 48-hour thing is a bit extreme and that needs to be addressed. Suppose with anything, if it’s bad enough to where somebody’s calling to get warranty work done, it’s a big deal. But on a good note, the technicians have all been standup guys, super honest, and very detailed. The quality of their work has been real good. We weren't sure about some of the aspects of the house we bought. It was a move up for us and there's a whole lot of things that we weren't used to managing, and we thought that the extra expense per year might be worth it and it turns out that that’s been exactly the case. It's relatively easy to submit a claim to First American. My wife is usually the one that calls when we do have a reason to call, but she hasn’t experienced any kind of difficulty at all. The folks that are working on the other end and providing the service under the umbrella organization have always been timely. All of them have been professional.
The technician listened to what we described as the symptoms for this or that item that needed attention. We had a couple of service calls on the central heating and air unit so simple repairs were made. We never felt like we happened to do anything that wasn’t called for. And the biggest benefit to us this year was that the service technician was able to put the faulty unit in an emergency mode in order to provide us some heat and comfort, which is a step above and beyond. It was greatly welcomed but I knew what he was doing and really helped us out. The replacement unit that was installed earlier this year is working without any trouble. We're quite happy with First American and we've recommended that other people look into it because it has been a blessing to us.

We have held a First American Warranty for three years in our current home. Often we have had trouble getting a prompt response to send out a vendor - plumber, heating expert or otherwise. However, our current situation has extended well beyond unacceptable to Kafka-esque levels of incompetence and ludicrous non responsiveness. Simply put we have been without a functional oven for over two months (initial claim filed January 12, 2016). As a family with three small children we rely on that oven. And First American has STILL not sent an appropriate technician with the right part to fix it. I don't even know where to begin with all the problems.
First of course are the interminable wait times when calling, a routine 30-45 minutes on hold. We've even been hung up on twice which means we have to start over (they never take our number like other companies service centers). I'd estimate a total hold time of over four hours for this one claim. Second, even after explaining the issue it still had taken over a week for First American to send a technician. Third, even when we've warned them that our oven requires a non-generic custom part they haven't ordered it. Fourth and finally, they have sent out ill equipped technicians three times despite our repeated instruction for a specialist with the custom part.
And after all our calls and pleas (and even their acknowledgement that the claim must be addressed) there has been zero urgency from First American to address the fact that WE HAVE NOT HAD A WORKING OVEN FOR TWO MONTHS! I'm truly exasperated by this level of negligence and cannot wait for my term to end to switch to a different vendor.

But, I had an issue with the one who came to fix the dishwasher. I requested for him not to come back to our house and they sent a different rep to fix the dishwasher. Other than that, it was fine. I haven't had any issue with the quality of work that was performed. When I call, they take care of the situation quickly and I don't ever have a problem that is prolonged. I have recommended the company because I haven’t had a big issue with them.

I got First American so that I'm covered in case any major things happen that might cost me a lot of money like a heater or air conditioner. All worked out good when I submitted a claim. They were very professional. In fact I used them last week and they sent out a plumber. He came when he said he would come. They made it all happen really nice and they were polite. However, their claims process is a bit difficult for me. They sent me a book before however, when I cleaned up my office and moved paperwork and stuff around, I couldn't find that book. I didn't remember what their company name was. So, it took me quite a while to get a hold of them.
I looked at my contacts on my cellphone and there was home warranty. I called and it turned out it was the home warranty I got in 2010 when I first bought the house which I let it go a year after. I did some more looking and I found another home warranty and I tried that. And luckily enough, I found the right one. Had I not done that, I don't know if I could have ever contact them again because I never received an email. So now I got a backup plan if I can't find the book that they mailed me. I would make a folder and put everything with their company in that folder. And if anything ever happened that I had to get a hold of them, I could go to that folder and pull up their phone number and call. I'd recommend them in a heartbeat.

So when I moved, I got First American when I purchased a home about nine years ago and continued it right along. I've submitted three or four claims with them and never had a problem. Everything's been done beautifully. I get a call back from the people that are going to tell me when they're coming.
The reps and technicians have been very nice. They come out and do the work right the first time. In fact, the last guy who had come over here got inside the unit itself and looked around. We turned it on and he checked to make sure there was no leak on it. I had them come out once that had to do something with my stove where the guy was able to identify the problem and fixed it within 20 minutes. Also, I've never had anybody come out with a bad attitude and they don't overcharge me or try to sell me stuff that I don't need which is a big plus in today's world. Then I called the home warranty. They said it should be 72 hours instead of 48 hours. So, I wait one more day. Called contractor, nobody answered. Called home warranty again. They sent a note to contractor.
Next morning, contractor called me and said they didn't know until saw the note. Since the contractor is only working one day per week in the area, the earliest they can do is next week. I called the home warranty to see if they have another contractor in the area can do service early but they refused to change contractor, and said will try to call back us in 2 days. First American's claims rep is always friendly and helpful. They're great people who’ve always been there. They’ve been reliable and they work fast. When we have a problem, we get things fixed pretty quick and it only costs us about $50 at the shop. However, there was one problem where the technician screwed me and First American didn't do anything about it. I was going through chemotherapy for cancer and we had a problem with the air conditioning. The guy came out, said "this is what needs to be done" and came back out. Apparently, he didn’t do it. He just worked a way around it. Said we needed to have a new concrete pad underneath the units outside because they weren’t high enough. We said we don’t need it, but they charged us for it anyway.
We had another problem later on and there was somebody who came out and fixed it. And we had another problem and a different company came out and said, “They didn’t do any of that stuff. You need to get your money back.” Then we called First American and they said, “Well, the technicians said they did and you say they didn’t.” I got stuck holding the bag. On Superbowl Sunday my oven locked and would no longer open, turn down or turn off which I was told could cause a fire and needed to be looked at right away. I called the warranty company and they sent a tech out who determined the motherboard was fried and the part was no longer available for purchase. They recommended not using the stove until it was fixed/replaced. It ended up taking 3 days before the tech even sent in my paperwork so we could move forward with the replacement. American Home Warranty then sent me a link to view and accept my replacement.
I called the Warranty company and specifically asked if the unit would fit. The operator from American Home Warranty assured me that it would fit as they base the dimensions off of the old unit. With that in mind I accepted it as we have 4 kids and being without a stove/oven for even a day is very hard, hence why we have a home warranty for "Peace of mind".
Sears dropped off the new unit on the next Saturday, and the tech came to install the unit on Tuesday, February 23rd 2016. They removed the old unit from the wall and measured it, only to find out it was 29 1/8 in width, not 30 W like the prior technician had stated and put on the work order. The tech then told us we need to pay him $325.00 in order for him to cut the counter and make the unit fit. I have made several calls and talked to several supervisors at American Home Warranty and they all refuse to replace or pay for the unit installation saying they are not responsible for modifications. We are a family of 2 adults and 4 children with a brand new stove in the kitchen that the warranty company I thought was suppose to give us peace of mind refuses to replace the oven with a model that fits, or pay for the installation of the new unit.
I have never been so disgusted about a company. After calling more supervisors I was told by Mario (employee **) that he was as high up as I could get and that I am on my own for the installation cost associated with replacing the oven they shipped to replace my old unit. I will not be renewing or giving this place a dime as I feel like I was scammed and they did not resolve my issue nor care to discuss it with me anymore. I feel the company is trying to deceive people into adding more work for their contractor's "Custom" work, which would not needed if they sent the correct size which they had known from the original unit. I am not an appliance man, nor do I want to unplug, disconnected the unit from the wall as I'm not versed in that line of work.

My HVAC went out 12/20/15. It's now 2/20/16 and we are still sitting without a working HVAC. We waited two months for the technician to order a part that they told us from day one they would not be able to locate. I pushed FAH continuously to try to find the part themselves but they refused. First citing that they did not have a part number and then telling us that the technician never communicated. They were not going to be able to find it. None of it makes sense - why do you need the part number only to sit on it for weeks?
When I finally asked to be transferred to a supervisor, they suddenly decided to order the part (which came in less than a week - so we waited for 2 months for nothing). I still asked to be transferred and was hung up on. So the part comes in and is installed (I guess). The technician tells me that the problem was misdiagnosed. After 5 visits, it is a leak and not the part (or at least what the prior two techs did probably made the part go out). I've now paid several hundred dollars to have nothing work. They assigned a new technician who has not contacted us in a week. I get a call every Tuesday (like clockwork) that says nothing. I will be canceling after this finally gets resolved. My fear is if I cancel now, they will find a way to not fix the HVAC. Stay away from these warranties - nothing but a pain.

Their claims representative were knowledgeable, kept me abreast as to who else I'm going to be dealing with and if I had any problems, they’ll inform me to call back so they can be aware of what the situation was and they’ll try to rectify it. The technician came out extremely late but I was happy with the service and he was knowledgeable, very professional and did a good job. Overall, everything worked out for the best. I'm happy and satisfied. If I had to use them again, I would.

I changed from American Home Shield to First American and didn’t have as many out-of-pocket expenses. I also know Michelle and she’s wonderful so we decided to change over. I’m a realtor so I use First American a lot. The claims reps were outstanding. I had a water heater that needed to be replaced. The technician came out, looked at it promptly and they’re replacing it today. I was just surprised that we had a $250 charge to replace certain lines on our condo to upgrade. But the property manager said everything’s going great and they’re very nice.

The experience with First American has been good for me. The technicians that came to my home did a good job. The only problem I had was when we were out at Glendale California, they had contracted with some real crooks. I caught them at several things trying to rip us off. They charged for two central air-conditioning units and tried to put the second one in on the roof next to the first one which made no sense to me. I don't know if First American did anything with them because they came out once and I refused to have them service me. But all in all, First American was very responsive and I'm glad to have them with me.

We submitted a claim with First American last year. Our hot water line got a leak and the water was everywhere. I called First American and submitted the claim but that took too long so we just went ahead and called the plumber out and got it fixed. I also submitted a claim on some electrical problems. It was a holiday and as soon as the holiday was over, we got a call from the contractor and they came out and fixed it. We were very happy.
Their rep was very nice and helpful. She did put me on hold to research when I called and said, “You know, I didn’t get to call back within the end of the business day...” Then she came back and explained to me everything. And the contractor was very knowledgeable, very nice and personable. I'm very satisfied with his work. Our experience was excellent.

On several occasions submitting a claim to First American has been pretty good, but on one or two occasions it was absolutely terrible. It took over a month and a half to get our cooler fixed during the summer. That was a year ago. They kept arguing over whether or not to fix it or replace it, and they finally put new parts in it. They had two different outfits that’s come out here and they look at it and leave. And somebody else has looked at it and left, and nobody would do anything. They're also more expensive than a couple of companies that I have talked to some friends about. But First American's people on the phone have always been nice and courteous, and in my most recent experience, the guy took care of business like he was supposed to and fixed whatever needed to be fixed and left.

We had First American on a previous home we owned, and that was due to a past realtor we worked with. Submitting our latest claim with them was fairly painless. There were no problems at all with the claims representative over the phone. I called and got the process started, and someone came out the same day and solved the problem, so it was fine. The technician sent to our home was helpful and the quality of the work he performed was fine.

WORST COMPANY!!! I have filed one claim with this company and it has been a nightmare. I have a barely functioning cooktop that they have said they are unable to repair. My current cooktop is a JennAir, a higher end appliance company, as evidenced by any of their new appliances on the market today. Unfortunately, the repairman sent out to service my cooktop was unable to find the serial number and therefore no parts can be ordered. The offered replacement was the cheapest (and worst looking) possible cooktop. According to this company, they only need to match the number of burners, color, and BTUs (which is also not determined because they do not have the serial number). Additionally, they will not install the cheap new cooktop because they don't cover any of the auxiliary problems that arise with installation, like making sure the hole in my granite countertops is the right size. That part is my problem.
After speaking to an installer I learned the cost of installation will be more than the cash option offered by First American. It's a racket! The amount offered just happens to be the same amount as the insurance cost me in the first place. If my car insurance company worked like this and I had a BMW, would they be able to replace it with a Kia because it has 4 wheels, a steering wheel and it's white??? The purpose of insurance should be to cover the value of what you have. It should not be to replace it with the cheapest piece of crap on the market and run off laughing all the way to the bank! I would rather they just fix my old appliance. It is not the fault of the customer they are unable to do so. I would caution anyone thinking about purchasing insurance from this company. Perhaps another company is more honest. I will be filing a complaint with my state regulators.

When we bought our home, First American was on it so we kept it. Their claims process has been easy. We just call over the phone, tell them the problem and the next day, somebody calls us to schedule an appointment to fix it. We had no problems with their claims rep as well. When we called the company, they were really nice. So far, the only claims we had were the garbage disposal and the washing machine. It was an excellent experience with the former, but we’re having a little problem with the company that First American hired for the latter. The washing machine has been broken for over a week and the one who’s supposed to be taking care of it is somewhere else.
He came to the house for the first time over a month ago. He fixed the machine and said, “You have a year warranty.” We were not happy with that fix and the technician, though. We didn’t hear from this person at all until we made a couple phone calls and left messages. Several days later he called and said it was going to be two more days before he could come to the house. And then he had to order the part and it took over a week to get it before he could fix the washing machine. I’m 69 years old and I have to wash clothes every two days which is hard. Then three weeks after the repair, the same problem happened and now, we can’t get him over here to fix it. We’ll be calling First American this morning to tell them about it.
Overall, First American has been a good company and we haven’t had any problems with them, but we had a bad experience with the technician that they sent over the house. That’s not their fault, but they need to be stricter to make sure the customer is happy about it. They should make sure the contractor calls the customer in 24 hours and say, “Hey, I’d be there in three days or in four days.”

First American is worth the price we pay for the warranty. Sometimes I order the appointment online, then the other times I've called and both times, it was easy. We've had a few issues with our furnace (we have a boiler for our heat) that's been taken care of. The technicians that worked on our furnace were courteous, professional and knew what they were doing. Then there's an icemaker in our kitchen that we're having issues with. The technician has been out a few times to try to fix it and so far, it's not working. But as far as the warranty, they've been doing everything they should.

First American has been very good. I renew with them every year and have them for five years now. It has been worth the money because I've had some repairs that exceeded what I've paid for two years' worth of contracts. I've submitted claims over the phone or online to figure out where something will fall, but that has been pretty good. I had a few issues with some of the contractors but for the most part, my experience has been good and I have recommended them.

I heard from my boss the experience he had in dealing with First American so I chose them. They have great customer service. My claim was executed in a very timely manner, and I'm really happy with the service. The technician was also very professional and knew exactly what he was doing and fixed my problem within 45 minutes to an hour when I was actually told from previous HVAC companies that I needed to have the unit replaced, which wasn't the case at all. I'm glad that he could help me out. I liked that the contractor out of Decatur, Alabama contacted me and said he was going to be there at my house at 9:00 that morning, and he came in ahead of schedule. And a lot of contractors will do that - they’ll call you the morning up and say, "can you try it about afternoon,” even though you’ve already got time and taken off work. And, on a scale of 1 to 10, their work quality is absolutely a 10.
Glad we could be of service, Jason!

A fellow was sent by First American for my garage door opener before and he was nice and took care of it. I was impressed, so I stayed with them. I've had two things fixed through FirstAm. I had some difficulties with it the second time for my washing machine, but I made sure that everything does go real smooth, although it took me quite a while to get somebody out here. Having said that, both technicians did an excellent job. The first one really impressed me and the second was tired when he got here, but he also did a wonderful job. They both have wonderful personalities. I've been with First American for over three years and I've been happy.
