Extremely pleased with all dealings with First American. Also with L and S Heat and Air Conditioning. Both were very professional and helpful. L and S had to make another trip due to waiting for a part, which was only a few days. The gentlemen that came out were nice and well-mannered. I renewed my contract with First American because of the way they handled everything from the beginning.

A year ago, our washing machine started acting up, so we called First American. They're pretty quick in reaching out to a technician. They had someone come out and look at the unit. He told me what it needed which would be about $900. He submitted it to First American and they ended up agreeing. They wanted to repair it and I was really surprised. They spent $900 to repair the washing machine. We could've bought a washer and dryer for $900. Other than that, I'm very satisfied with First American.

First American has been very good with me. Every time that I called for something, they sent somebody out and took care of it. I had an oven that went out and they tried to fix it. They ordered the parts they needed and it was about a month before it got fixed, but they fixed it. Everything they do is pretty good.

I had a bad experience with the home warranty provider that we had before so I wanted to change. I did some research online and there were some good reviews about First American so I decided to give them a try. I have submitted a claim for a dryer and it was great. It was on a Saturday and I was very impressed with the speed of them contacting me. Within a couple of hours, the contractor called and we set up the appointment. The technician who came was awesome and very professional. We're thinking about putting another home under First American.

I was unhappy with my current home warranty, and my father has First American so I went with them. It was easy and simple to submit a claim - I've only made one so far. I think with any home warranty, the most important thing is not necessarily the home warranty, but the vendors that they contract with. The vendor for our claim was great and contacted me immediately to set up the appointment and they did a good job. I really appreciate that they are using good quality vendors. They're not the cheapest home warranty out there but one gets what one pays for. The experience with First American is of good quality, easy, and convenient.

We had a pretty terrible experience with another home warranty company and we heard about First American from a friend who had them. When we submit a claim over the phone, we usually get a call back within about 24 hours from the company that’s gonna complete the service. We haven’t ever had any problems and the companies always called us back. They usually always come on time and the work done is usually perfect, too. We’re very satisfied with First American.

The air conditioner went out and First American came and repaired it. I submitted the claim on the phone and didn’t have any problems at all, it was so easy. The technician was very good too. It's great to have that type of insurance.

The process to get things fixed and resolved is a very slow process. As the customer, you are in the middle. I called regarding my HVAC. The appointment was scheduled in a timely manner. A very rude person from Metro Air (Atlanta GA) came to service my air. He started by saying, "I don't have all day". It's 09:30 in the morning. The day just started. He supposedly diagnosed the problem as needing a timer replaced on the fan, he wrote on the invoice, the time needed to be replaced. When he reported the issues to First American, he added on additional problems that needed to be fixed. None of that information was on the invoice. None of that information was discussed while he was at my home. Furthermore, I was told, I had to pay an additional $100 to cover the things that were not listed on my invoice.
First American did not try to help me solve the issue. I realize the services are contracted out, however, it is my expectation that First American would try to look out for the best interest of their customers. First American immediately took a hands off approach leaving me, the customer, in the middle. First American promises answers in 2 to 3 business days. I have had two claims and 2 to 3 business days really mean 8 to 14 days. I will not be renewing this policy, neither would I recommend this company for a policy. I am still waiting to hear back from First American. Yet, the Rude Service Tech from North Metro Air in the Atlanta Area came out on November 3, 2016 and it is now November 8, 2016. I have made multiple calls to First American. I have even reached out to North Metro Air, and I am still waiting for an answer. Yet the technician was given the cash payment of $65 upon his arrival.

I have a technician coming out to my house today. Submitting a claim online was pretty quick as I don't need to wait around. I've been doing it online for my last couple of claims. The technician that came out a few weeks back was a good plumber. Quality of work has been good so far.

First American was great and nice to work with. They did exactly what I expected them to do but the contractor they used is the one we were unhappy with. It took the contractor three times of coming out to fix the issue.

By no means is the faulty equipment their fault, but how they handled the service requests is. My wife and have 2 children (toddler and an infant), and recently purchased our first home together. When the fridge broke down they sent out a contractor, who came in jeans and t shirt, looked at the fridge for 10 minutes and said. "It's a Freon leak, I need to send this back to FAHBP to see what they will approve, either a fix or new unit."
Months went by with no contact until I reached out. The contractor said they turned in the paperwork right after and I needed to contact FAHBP, ok fine. I do and sure enough it was approved for junk out, but no one called/emailed/snail mailed, smoke signaled/anything. With 2 very young children in the house we had already bought a new fridge as waiting was not an option. Luckily we had the means to do so.
Now, a couple weeks ago, a bubble appeared in our basement ceiling. Right under the kitchen sink, I wonder what that is. Sure enough it's a leak and it's spreading. So I put in for an emergency service as water is leaking through a built in light fixture. The email says I'll be contacted within 24 hours for emergency service, but also says "during normal business hours". I submitted on a Saturday night I figured we might have to wait until Monday to hear back. With minimal sink use and bucket, this is acceptable.
Monday comes and by mid afternoon I have not heard anything from the contractor (Elevated Management and Construction LLC) so I shoot off a quick email to check and see if they have received the request. It bounces back as undeliverable because the system says the email doesn't exist. Late afternoon and still nothing so I call the number provided, a message reads "Sorry the voicemail box is full, goodbye" and hangs up. Seems like a fake company or one that went of business, either way it certainly doesn't help me out.
So I call FAHBP to try and get things moving. 3 disconnected calls spread over 5 different reps and I still no closer to having my problem even looked at let alone fixed. This is the stuff that gives home warranty a bad name. Terribly frustrated and disappointed. I have sent a message in their online home center as well, let's see which gets a quicker response.

We got free home warranty for a year when we bought our home in 2004. I liked the idea of having that kind of security so I have continued it over the years. Overall it's not bad, but it's not perfect. About a year and half ago, my water heater broke and I needed repair or replacement. They sent a guy from Triple S Plumbing, and he told me it was going to cost me over $200 for him to do it. I said it's replacement but he said I have to pay for any adjustments that have to be made. So, I wound up having to pay over $200 to have my water heater replaced.
Then about two weeks ago, I called to have my master bath sink repaired. It had come loose and it needed to have some of the stuff underneath replaced. They sent the same guy and he started out by telling me it was going to cost me $500, because he had to replace both of the fixtures in both sinks. I said I can't do it and he said he can't fix it because it doesn’t come with the part, and that I have to buy one that has the part. He said they're expensive and it'd be $500 for both of them. I said I can't do it so miraculously he hacked something together and he got it to where it wasn’t wobbling anymore. I tried to be very nice because he clearly had a temper from the first time I had an experience with him. So I was really uncomfortable being with him alone in my house.
I've had a pretty good experience with First American, but I don’t like that company. I told them the last time I had Triple S Plumbing that I didn’t wanna deal with that company, and that’s who they sent back this time. When I complained to them about the first time, they were not on my side. They told me I could go pay somebody else to replace it. At that time, I started looking around at other companies because I didn’t feel they helped me at all in that situation and it cost me a lot of money, and I wasn’t happy at all. But it's hard to change to somebody else and I accepted that until they sent the same guy over. Now if I have another plumbing problem, I don’t want that guy coming to my house especially when I'm home alone.

Our realtor offered First American which was the best home warranty to go with for our home. We would normally call in to submit a claim because if we need somebody, I'm not waiting online to see if somebody is gonna answer on the other end. My complaint would be that the contractor that we were given had three days to contact us to make an appointment or we could call him back right away, which we did because we did not wanna wait for days for the plumbing issue. That’s something that First American should have been more active with instead of leaving it up to us. But the only tech that we've had to deal with so far was very nice to work with. He followed through, came back the next day just like he said and cleaned up the mess after.

I didn’t have any problems with First American ‘til the last claim I filed a few weeks ago. The people that they got for the furnace didn’t want to show up or call. We submitted our claim on a Wednesday, and that’s when they were supposed to come. One guy did come and told me what was the matter with it. He said, “I’ll be back tomorrow to fix it and bring the part.” Well, he never showed up or called. So I had finally called First American and they got a hold of them. When they finally came to fix it, it was 10 after 10:00 that night. He fixed it and I paid him $95. I hope that if anything happens again, First American will send me somebody else because I don’t want to fool with those people. Other than that, First American is fine and everything’s been perfect. They took care of the problem.

First American warranty came with the house and we kept on renewing it. With them, we've had very good claims experiences in the past. My wife does all the claim filing and she really likes the company. We used them a week ago for our hot water heater and the response was prompt. The contractors had to come back again because a part had to be ordered but they were professional and did a very good job. It was dealt with right away, so I'm very pleased. I recommend First American all the time.

They were on time, very polite and they did their job. It was very good. I had no complaints.

I’ve been with First American for about six years. I usually get responded to fairly quickly when I submit a claim and depending on whether it’s an emergency or not, they send somebody out with quick order. I’ve had to wait upon occasion once for a heater and once for an air conditioning fix, but it’s real good in general. They're great and I appreciate the service. The experience I’ve had has been reassuring and I’m not anxious about something going wrong.

The warranty company "repaired" a dishwasher less than six weeks ago and charged me the $65 fee for the service. It took them two visits to get it corrected and last night the same problem started again -- the dishwasher ran all night. When I called to schedule a repair of their repair they indicated I would be charged the $65 again for repairing the same problem they fixed and charged me for in September. Outrageous.

I used to work in escrow and the buyers or sellers would purchase First American. I like them more than others because they gave better customer service and they had a better premium. I've submitted a claim online and over the phone for my dishwasher and I got what I needed on both times. I heard back from their technicians within a few hours after my initial call. However, I wasn't happy with one technician who came since he told me things to do that didn't make any sense. Also, they were supposed to call back but they never did. So I called and made another order and I got a different person. He was on time, very friendly, and helpful. He came back and installed the parts that they told him to order, and we had no problems. He did a good job. I'd recommend First American.

We've already used First American and we've had pretty good luck with them. However, the first technician who came out to fix our heater didn't do a good job at all. He spent 15 minutes on it then another person came out. They didn’t put the face plate back on the heater and neither did they do anything to it inside. Neither one of them knew what they were doing or cared. We had to call and get a third person to get the heating system fixed and finally turn on. This third guy was real good. It was nice that the American program that they had listened to our complaints and went ahead and let us follow up with another guy that fixed it all. First American should be careful on who they recommend or who works for them because they are a dime a dozen. Some of them do not do what they’re going to do. If the homeowner doesn’t know any better they would probably not report it.

I’ve had good results from having First American. I was told about them when I bought the house and I've submitted claims both over the phone and online. Online is faster, though, because they get back in touch with me quick and I don’t have to be on hold. All contractors have been fine except there was one problem I had with Service Pro. They came out, found a circuit breaker, flipped the switch, and still charged me $65. I think that the circuit breaker thing was too simple and I even gave the guy a clue. I told him that it’s the easiest money he's gonna make all day yet he still charged me. I was disappointed in that one and I called to get it refunded, but First American said that I had to get refunded from them and they wouldn’t do it. Some others came out to dig something and I paid them $65 and they got it accomplished. Even so, First American has consideration, care for customer and excellent customer service.

I wanted to protect everything in the house and I got First American. I didn’t have an issue with the one claim I had with them. A guy came out to check something on our refrigerator. He was prompt, very courteous, nice, and knowledgeable. It was a great experience. Additionally, when I called First American and told them my issues, they gave me a number to call after hours so that I could get somebody quicker. They try to get somebody within 24 hours if my refrigerator goes out at night or over the weekend, which is not bad. My future son-in-law got the protection plan too and it really paid off big time. His unit went out less than three weeks after he had the plan and it saved him money big time. It was all worth it. I have recommended First American to other people.

First American came in when we bought the house and they’ve been prompt on their response when I submit a claim over the phone. Most of my interactions with the technicians were good. They got to send somebody based on what the manufacturer of the equipment is because not everybody can fix everything. In some cases, people said they could but when they came out, they obviously couldn't. I worked in repairing equipment all my life, so I knew when somebody was telling me things that weren’t right. Some of them who we've had didn’t know what the hell they were doing and we simply had to go get somebody else because somebody else was always provided.
The only real complaint along these lines is that their subcontractors were more interested in selling us the product than they were on fixing the problem on a few occasions. But we bypassed that and we got what we needed to get done. First American works with me, so I'm still willing to work with them. They have been fair to us, and we've been a good customer of theirs. I'd recommend them.

Received a year of warranty service when I purchased a house in 2010, and initially was pleased with service. Moved, rented out first house and added a second house in 2012. Still had no complaints, every claim I submitted was resolved within a day even for emergencies. Then about 2 years ago service really went down the drain. In the service calls I have placed since then either I have had to find a contractor because they couldn't find one to work after hours, or it took more than 2 days for a contractor to contact me.
They replaced a broken dishwasher (it took 2 weeks) with what they called a "comparable model" that is smaller, more expensive and harder to use (the racks are closer together not allowing for tall items like baking sheets to be washed). The service fee has gone up $30 in two years, and will rise again if I were to renew for another year. The customer service when you call in is good, and they do try to accommodate you when you call. However the value just isn't there in my opinion.

We submit a claim over the phone and their claims representatives are great. They'd ask a couple of quick questions and then dispatch to a service provider which would take 24 hours to get back. The service provider that came out for our refrigerator wasn't the best. Then they sent another person out from the same company to figure it out. They had to order a part and then a new person came out who was knowledgeable on what was going on. However, I was disappointed with how it was resolved. First American was offered by the seller of the home that we purchased. We've been so happy with them since and we have been staying with them for almost 20 years. We haven’t had too many problems but the dryer wasn’t drying and it turned out to be the heating element had just gone. Thankfully, it was minor. It’s just nice to know that First Americans' there.
The only major thing we've ever had was with a Jenn-Air stove cooktop. When you try to light the stove, it wouldn't stop clicking the whole time you’re cooking. It's a safety issue. They're all sparking. The technician said this model was not the greatest model because if it gets wet, there's going to be dust in there. He said it's always going to have this problem. It was really costly, such that it was more cost-effective for them just to put a different cooktop than to try and find they don't make the same parts for it anymore.
First American weighed it all out. They just decided it was better, more cost-effective to change it out. I told them, "I'm good with keeping my Jenn-Air." They said, "Sorry, that will not work for us." I thought they're going to cancel us but they didn't. I apologized, saying I didn't really want to make a claim like this. Their staff said, "That's what we do. We try to repair or replace parts, but if we can't and none of the above works, then that's our promise. We will make sure that you have a like item replaced." I was so grateful. I told her I'm very happy with my new stove.
First Americans had very good, honest people come out. We try hard not to call them unless we absolutely have to. Jerry, one of the technicians, was always very pleasant. Overall, I've just been very, very pleased. First American always responds within 24 hours. They've got us already a work order number. We have always told them it's not an emergency, only just as soon as they can get the technicians and they did that's why we love this company.
I'm very thankful that they still let us renew even though we've had a few claims throughout the years. We make our premium through the automatic so they know they always get their money. We're just very happy. I have no complaints at all. They're a great company to deal with. They do what they commit to. They keep their promise of taking care of us and they really do. I've been very, very happy overall of their outstanding service and their professionalism through the years. They were friendly, dependable, loyal, very, very good company to deal with. I am very satisfied.

I had a problem right away when we discovered that the air conditioner wasn't working, and it's very warm there in the summertime. I called the realtor, who put me in touch with First American. I usually call them and it's easy to get in touch with them. They set up something and give us the phone number of the contractor and the contractor calls us. If we have a problem they will look into it and let us know. Their claims rep know what's going on.
We've had a couple of bad technicians but for the most part, they're good. One guy tried to rip us off. He was saying things that weren't true. They deny it and they had somebody else come out and get it fixed which was a really easy fix. The other guy was trying to say we needed a whole new something so I told them that he was dishonest. He's now hopefully dropped from that company. And, if something is done and then it didn't work, they will come back out and they'll take care of it. They're very reliable and very good. When we bought the house, our realtor said that we’d get a policy from First American. My husband said yes to getting the coverage and our realtor took care of it from that point. And I’ve continued with it because it helped us out. So far, it’s been pretty good. This summer I gave them a call because I noticed that the AC wasn’t cooling as well as it was earlier. It keeps getting warmer and the AC was just running. So they made the arrangements and the guy they used for the HVAC called me within about 24 hours. They were out within a day or two after that, so it was pretty quick. He found the problem and fixed it in one visit. It turned out to be a simple cover on where you actually put the freon in. It had developed a crack and was allowing freon to leak out. So they topped me up and put a new cap on there. It was a simple fix and the AC started cooling better again.
The group that First American sent out here was the same one that they sent a year before. We've had a couple of problems with the heat and AC and they did a very good job. They were quick and friendly. They took care of it and found the problem right away. Overall, my experience has been very good. The first few claims we had were easy and the most recent was for the ceiling fan. They responded back that there was no one that they can find to do a repair and they would allow us $125 to find someone to do the repair. I can't find anybody to do a repair either so I don't know if they would replace the fan and I'm stuck. I can't do what they themselves said they couldn't do so therefore, there is no resolution to the issue. Everything had gone smoothly with the exception of the ceiling fan. I bought my house 5 years ago and have what was listed as an updated kitchen with “high end” appliances. This translate to Viking appliances. With the purchase of the house I also received a home warranty with First American. I have chosen to continue to pay for this home warranty for the peace of mind that I had knowing if something went wrong with these “high end” appliances I would be covered. Well, this past year I had to place a call on my double oven. The end result is that they are not able to repair the unit. Therefore they offered me a replacement oven. I knew they do not guarantee an exact replacement. However I didn’t realize that they only offer the cheapest oven that meets the basic functionality that is being replaced.
They have partnered with Sears and only offer the cheapest brand that is listed on the sears.com website. I have accepted their buyout option which is based on negotiated rates so it is even lower than what is listed on the Sears website. I will need to spend 4X the amount they are giving me to replace my oven... Therefore if you have a house with higher end appliances I don’t think First American is worth the annual insurance fee.

Submitting a claim to First American is usually okay. The people that I spoke to were nice. They give me a phone number and I call it whoever it is. Sometimes it takes a little longer than I would like to have it. Then some time ago I had trouble with the ice maker and the problem seemed to be coming back so that wasn't very good. But lately, everybody who came here was fine and the last one that worked on my refrigerator was very good. We were always glad to have them and we always renewed the contract whenever it came up. I would recommend them.

My daughter had heard about First American and got that for me. The process of submitting a claim with them was fairly easy. The first technician that came here was very helpful. It happened on a Friday and the technician wasnt sure if they could get the replacement compressor. But, he did expedite the process and had it here by saturday which was great because it was 90 degrees in the house. I also called First American the other day because I wasn't getting the cool air in the bedroom. The company that came out checked everything including the filter. He washed the filter for me, but he told me that it wasn't enough. It turns out that the filter was not allowing air to go through, so he asked me to throw it out and just get the regular filters that come with my size, which I did. Overalll, the quality of the work they've done was good.

Acquiring a home warranty is a lot less hassle, so we like it. We've been with First American for a number of different properties, and they were recommended by one of the real estate agents. So far, so good when submitting a claim. Mostly, I just telephone. There are a couple of times when the people at First American don't know a hundred percent what you're trying to ask them to have fixed, but otherwise, in 8 out of 10 times, they do. The claims representatives are usually very helpful, even when they don't know what they're talking about. About 90 percent of the contractors are awesome. However, one of them was horrible, and First American has done a good job of making sure they're never sent to my house again. The work that's been done is of high quality, and I feel great about it.

I bought a home that was out of warranty and I know how repairs can be costly on homes that are a few years old. So I thought it would be a good idea to have a home warranty in case something goes bad. A friend of mine recommended First American. His mother uses it. When I had an electrical problem with the circuit breaker that kept tripping, I went to First American's website and put in a request for service. There were a few questions to answer for them to know what kind of technician to send out and within a few hours, I got a response that a tech from a certain company would be contacting me within 48 hours to set up an appointment.
It so happened that the breaker wasn’t tripping when the technician came out. But we tried to figure out what was wrong. He had to do and replace some things that might be causing the problem. He made the best effort to figure out what’s wrong and so far, there hasn’t been any problems since then. First American has met all my expectations.

I was buying a house and my brother told me about First American. I had another home warranty then that was charging me $100 each time a tech came out. I went with First American because the rate was cheaper and it seemed to give the same thing. When I had a plumbing leak, the techs that initially came to my home were horrible. The leak was from the bathroom upstairs but they went downstairs, used the snake and I believe they hit a line and broke it, but they said they didn't. I called and told the contractor that my basement was totally flooded which had never happened before. This was on a Saturday and they said they will send somebody out but they only did on Monday.
When they came out, they repaired what made the damage but swore that it wasn't their fault. To this date, I've had to pay for all the expenses out of my pocket because my warranty people only want to pay so much. They said that they would've reimbursed me for whatever I had to pay but I couldn't get the contractor to send me a copy of the bill and they didn't leave the part. I asked for the part back but the contractor never gave it back. They said it was in the man's car but then three days later they told me it had been thrown away. They never worked with me at all. So I got stuck with the fee which wasn't fair to me.
I talked to First American and told them what was going on and they informed me that the contractor was responsible, that I could talk to the contractor, get their insurance information and go from there. When I called the contractor, they never gave me their insurance information. It was a big hassle. I never called First America back ‘cause I figured they had nothing else to do with it. It was the only one problem that I had. Hopefully, it won't happen again.
My experience with First American is great but I really wish they would have a policy in place for when the contractor does something wrong that causes another problem in one's house, they have to be liable. Otherwise, it falls back on First American and it makes them look bad because they are the ones recommending these contractors. I'm talking about $10,000 that I have to come out of my pocket for.

When we bought our first home, the sellers offered First American as a benefit, and we stayed with it ever since. I listed my issue on the internet. It was handled there, and it was very easy. The contractor that came was Town and Country and they're outstanding. They reached out to me after they received the information from First American, and set up an appointment. The next day, they took the time to come out, even on a weekend, for our broken down air conditioning. Their communication was excellent. They followed through and came back to make sure that the furnace was working properly.
Previously, I had Grandpa's Plumbing come out for something, and they were another fantastic family-run business. They're outstanding in their work and communication. My experiences with this company have almost always been bad. I live in Texas and have a rental property in Tennessee. I usually only hear from my property manager when something bad happens. Each time I've dealt with them their response time has been very slow. Last time I actually had to pay for a hotel for my tenant because it was so hot outside.
When I decided to cancel my contract with them, I called and spoke to customer service where I was told to make my request in writing via email. At this time I instructed the agent to remove my credit card number from the system because this card was maxed out. The agent agreed to do so and I proceeded to write the request in the form of an email as directed. I sent the email right away for which there was no response. Later that month I was checking my credit card account where I discovered that another payment had come out along with an additional charge because I had now gone over the credit limit.
When I called the home warranty customer service department I was told that this process takes 30 days and that they would refund the money that was deducted from my credit card account at the end of the 30 days. I told them that they were not supposed to take another payment out and that I had even told the agent to take my credit card number out so this would not happen. He simply told me that they did not receive my cancellation email and that I should look for the response email. I had no response email from them, however I did have the email that I had initially sent them. I asked what they were going to do about the over limit charge I received from my credit card company to which he replied that that's not their responsibility and they would not be willing to pay that.
I recommend to all people who are canceling their service with this company that not only do you tell them to take your credit card number out of the system and email them your cancellation email, but also call your credit card company and instruct them to deny any further charges to this company so they cannot do this to you.

The service tech told me that it was a fuse that went out. We've only had a problem with one person they sent out, and that's been a few years ago. It was actually a service rep from Sears and more of a language barrier issue. But they sent someone else out and fixed the situation. I was very happy with their work. We had another home warranty before First American and I didn't like dealing with them. The person that owned the house before we did said that First American was a good company when she had them. I filed a claim to fix the hot tub and I recommended a guy to First American to do it. We had somebody working on the hot tub because we paid out of our pocket first until we got the insurance. Once we got the home warranty, it seemed like he didn't want to deal with us anymore. He took his time and I would not use that guy again. He told us that he could fix it and he didn't. So we're not gonna mess with it anymore. We decided we're just gonna use it til it breaks and then we're just gonna get rid of it and buy a new one. That's the first claim that we've had through First American.
When I had the difficulty hearing back from the pool tech, First American was right on it. They were on it pretty quick. As soon as First American got a hold of the tech, they finally showed up out here. Like my previous home warranty, it wasn't a good experience with First American either. They charged me a full year upfront when I told them I was only gonna do it monthly. They took the $960 out of my account and basically left me in the negative in my account. And it took almost two weeks to get my money back. They said they had it set up for month to month. But one of the managers went back in and did something and changed it. And I said, "Well, nobody gave him authorization to do that. I did not say that I wanted to pay for the full year upfront." Some people don't have $960 in their account at one time. So that's a lot of loyalty right there - to stay with somebody when they screw up that bad.

They went outside to check the water pressure and the water meter to see if there was a leak, because if there was in some place, the water meter would be moving. They did these things that the previous person didn’t.
Their work quality was good and they did not fix it on the spot. They told me what the problem was and what they have to do it. It just so happens we were leaving on a four-day vacation the following day. They said they would reschedule it. And the day after we got back, they came and had the supplies that they needed. They got the proper steel because they had to pull the toilet which is mounted on the wall. It's a little trickier to put on because it hangs. My covered water heater broke. Submitted a claim; 3 days later after I had to call the provider, they sent a contractor out. He basically said he couldn't fix it; had to check with what the laws were for legal clearance limits. I would think a licensed plumber would know this? He said he would write up the report to Worst American. 3 days later, no report; Worst American says to contact the contractor, contractor business takes another couple days, several calls with Worst American; on hold for literally HOURS. Turns out the heater replacement is too expensive; and now a week and a half without HOT WATER for my family (2 Kids 6/4), we try to get the cash out option... "Which could be MUCH less than retail"... read fine print. We take that, someone who we spoke with said they would waive the contract fee. (I got billed, had to pay.) The retail price for the heater was about $1400. (Ventless.) We got a check for about $1600.
There is no way any business would be able to replace heater. Bottom line, Worst American is cheap yes; but you get what you pay for. NO customer service. They "employ" the cheapest contractors that don't know what they are doing, and just play the system to get paid. The guy who came out basically got the service fee check to say it needs to be replaced and I'm not doing it. He played the system, and Worst American is a poor warranty service company. This was my 3rd and final item with them. The first 2 were sub-standard in service as well; but not as important as having hot water; so played less in my utter frustration with Worst American Home Warranty. Like most insurances; when it's time to pay the piper; they make it so difficult and find exclusions of why they won't pay; or pay much less than you would expect. I will not be renewing my contract.

When I got my broiler repaired, I had to go through a few people that work on it and they have to send in their information then say what the next step is. My realtor mentioned about First American when I bought the house four years ago. I went online and reviewed the offering that they had at that time and thought it was a pretty good deal. That's why I purchased the policy. I owned homes before and found that acquiring a home warranty was a good strategy in the event of unforeseen circumstances that amount to lots of dollars.
Submitting the claim was very easy. I just called the number and they contact a vendor on my behalf. And then, the vendor comes out and I pay the fee. They take care of the business. I've used it three times in the last four years. Once on the water heater and they replaced the whole thing and I was charged a nominal fee. And the last time for a plumbing leak that developed in one of my bathrooms. They're very helpful. They took care of the information. They confirmed who I am and where I'm located, gave me the name of the vendor and their phone number just in case I don't hear from them directly, I can call them up. And then, from there the vendor comes out, collects the payment and does the work.
On the last service call, we had a plumbing issue and the agent did not have the equipment with him in which to do the credit card transaction for the $65 fee that was due. So I gave him a check made out to the company that was called, "Habit Plumbing" and everything was hunky-dory. And then, about a week ago, I got a letter from First American saying they had no record of mine ever having paid. And they asked me to provide proof of payment. So I had to go and get a copy of my check that was canceled and write down all the information and put it in the envelope and mail it back to First American. Between First American and their vendor, somebody dropped the ball. It was an inconvenience and it cost me about $55. I never heard back, so I assumed that they resolved their issue without my further input.

Then you can connect the person, which will make it faster. I had an excellent experience with the technicians. They found the problem and tried to fix it. Then they explain to you what they are doing and why they've found this. The last time they came was for the washing machine. They had to order the part, and then came back and put it on. Our electrician indicated we had a leaky pipe under the house. Given the house is over 100 years old we weren't surprised, but given we just bought the house and would have requested its repair during that process we're glad to have the warranty. Being our first foray with making a claim, we wondered how it would go, but were pleased with the online process and ease of scheduling a tech.
The tech arrived in the window agreed to, but started out rude as I opened the door. I can get over that, people have bad days or different personalities. Then he wouldn't crawl into the crawl space to see the actual crack in the drain pipe and demanded we have HVAC remove all our duct work so he could have access. I get that to an extent, I didn't think all the duct work needed to be moved, but I'm not a professional. Funny thing though, we have had an electrician rewiring our house, under the house a lot over three weeks... He's the one who told us we had the leak. He never requested or expressed any concern with the duct work. Then the tech told me something about coverage that I wanted to check with First American about and was extremely upset when I told him I wanted to talk to them before signing his work order - to begin work. Then he just left.
When I called First American the person wouldn't do anything until they got the technician's report but told me they could request the same company send someone else once they get the report. I asked what other companies in the area are on their list to use because we have a great plumber who's already familiar with the house. I didn't even ask for the list of technicians, but to know if our plumber was on the list. They wouldn't even tell me that stating company policy and liability.
How are we expected to work with a company that gives no information and relies only on the word of technician who clearly is unable to discuss or work with clients? Should we allow someone who won't even crawl to see the problem, who's rude, who storms off back into our home because the warranty company won't give any information? It's clear First American deals with this a lot. The call center professional and supervisor were on the defense from the onset of the call and defending a technician that's giving them a bad name. They were not apologetic or accommodating in any way.

They will always come back with some reason that they are not responsible for replacing your appliance - usually saying it was misused (how do you misuse a refrigerator?). They make us jump through hoops each time we put in a claim. We have to prove we didn't misuse our refrigerator/microwave/air conditioning, etc. We reported our microwave being broken on 8/29. It is 10/13 and we are still fighting them. It is extremely frustrating and surely other home warranty companies are not as bad as this.

When we bought the house, the sellers gave us a list of people that we could get a home warranty with and we did reviews and researched on it from various places and saw that First American had really good reviews. We submit all of our claims with them over the phone, though we have done it online once and both experiences were great and timely. Their claims reps were professional and friendly. They were very attentive to what the issue was and were quick. It felt like there was a sense of urgency even though we had to wait 24 hours for what company will come out. Their technicians were polite and very professional, but the last one who came out was not. Other than that, First Am is a great business to work with. I just renewed, and I am gonna renew with them again in the future.

I was looking for a home warranty online and saw what First American covered and their reviews were pretty good overall, keeping in mind that most of the reviews are written by people that are pissed off. It's easy to file a claim, and I normally do it online. Their reps were very courteous and were able to answer my questions when I talk to them.
In addition, the technicians who came out did their job well. However, the people that they were sending out to my house for the air conditioning weren't compliant with State laws as far as identifying their air conditioning license on the vehicle that they came out with. The people who are coming out are in their personal cars, which is not legal in Texas. The name of the company and the Texas air conditioning license number are required to be on the vehicles. Anyway, the techs that came never got to actually fix the problem because I just did a cash-out and had somebody I knew take care of the problem.
I've always had great vendors, but I was a little shaky on the air conditioning vendor. I've had electricians, plumbers, and appliance repair people come out and no complaints on any of them. If anything, I was impressed on the quality of work that they did. I'm very happy with First American. It gives me peace of mind and I haven't been really disappointed by them. They seem to be doing a good job.

I was talking with my friend and he recently bought a home. He was telling me he got a home warranty so that's when I got curious. First American was the provider that he got, so he provided their information and we went with them. I submitted a claim myself for the plumbing in one of the bathrooms and it went very well. I had called instead of going online, so they helped me and made the appointment. They also directed me to the website for me to sign up and they told me that I could just do the claims online which was an easier thing to do.
The two technicians contracted by First American came and they tried to fix whatever needed to fix. They couldn't do it at the moment because they said the toilet needed to be changed. They said that they would call the insurance and that I should wait for them to call me. The next day they contacted me letting me know that the insurance had approved the claim. They came back another day and they did the replacement. First American has been very quick in responding to any concern. It's been a good experience so far and I'm happy with their service.

Signed up for First American and spent $400 a year on the warranty. When we went to use them, they did not have any contractors that would work for them in our area. We had to find our own contractors to do the work and pay out of pocket beforehand. Most contractors told us they weren't working with First American because First American always denies people's claims and it was giving their business poor ratings. We needed electrical work done that according to our warranty was covered, but First American denied us. They gave us some terrible excuse but from what contractors have told us, it was more than likely denied because of the cost. They then closed our account without even notifying us, erasing and record that we had had the claim in the first place. This business is a sham and completely unprofessional. Do not use it.

First American was one of the warranties offered to us when we were buying the house. I went with them because I was able to understand their brochure really well while the other ones were a bit more complicated. We called in when the toilet flooded and the process was easy. They listened to our issue, quick to respond, and sent out a technician.
The technician was nice and on time. He did his job, but didn't completely fix the issue. The guy told me that the sewer systems here aren't the same as in San Jose. The sewers here don't have a slant in the pipes so we can't put toilet paper in the toilet, which is ridiculous and doesn't make sense to me. My mom lives here in Tracy, and everybody uses toilet paper and puts it in the toilet. That's why I didn't care for the technician. We just keep checking the sewer making sure it is clear. But I'm sure that if something comes up, First American will be helpful.

Very disappointed. No stars. I purchased a home warranty for one year, including the optional A/C coverage. Living in Northern California, where temperatures reach over 100 degrees, my air conditioner inevitably failed. I filed a claim with the company, who then assigned the repair to a non-local service provider. The third party service provider never responded or contacted me within the time promised and never returned the numerous voice mail messages I placed. I again contacted First American Home Buyers Protection, who again promised to get the issue resolved, but I did not hear from them again. This dragged on for over a month and I ended up repairing the A/C myself, at my own expense (after having no A/C for over a month in over 100 degree temperatures).
I then received a notice in the mail, requesting I renew my contract. I found this laughable, or course, and also irritating. I called the company and spoke to three customer service members, asking to be reimbursed for the one year fee I had paid, after the company failed to hold up their end of the contract. The first two employees simply transferred me to someone else and the last one stated I should have cancelled my contract if I was not happy. The employee told me I would not be reimbursed but could not explain why. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was transferred to a voicemail machine. I left a message, but unfortunately, I am not expecting a call back. Very disappointed. Not only did I not get what paid for, but I wasted money, time, and frustration, trying to get them to fulfill the contract. Once again, the old saying is true. If you want it done right, you have to do it yourself. Please steer clear, buyers!

When I purchased this house in 2012, my sales agent recommended First American to me. Filing the claim was pretty easy. I just go to the website and then follow the instructions - submit a request, describe the symptom, put contact information, and submit. Usually, they'll get back to me within a day. So it's pretty easy to set up the appointment and to get in contact with them.
The reps called me several times asking if everything has been taken care of. Or to tell me if some claims where it's not covered by the warranty. They're pretty courteous and professional. The technicians are pretty informative, and they did very good work. Sometimes they will tell me whether or not the repair is covered by the warranty or not. And if not, will just make the decision on the spot. The quality of work is pretty good. But sometimes if the work is not complete or a reoccurring issue happen within 30 days, I call them back and they would contact the technician. And then they send them back to get the issues resolved. So overall, the interaction is pretty good, and they make sure that they get the job done.

It’s computerized now and our claims seem to go through with no problems. It used to be that I would talk to somebody, but the last time it went directly to a recording and it took the information and passed it on to the person that was gonna come out and check everything. Sometimes it takes a while to get somebody out but that’s usually in the dead of winter if people have something go wrong. I had two issues that came up in month 10 of 12 for our home warranty that was provided when we purchased our home. Both claims were filed in July. The first was for our built-in microwave which was shorting out. We had the tech come out the day after the claim was filed only to tell us there was nothing they could do until parts were ordered. I wanted WEEKS and did not get a response from 1st American. I called without being able to get through to anyone due to excessive (over an hour) wait times and emailed several times without a response. I finally got through to a rep and asked what that status was. The response I got was "well it is an older unit and we can't find any parts". I then prompted if they would be replacing the unit then as specified in the contract, they then found a part on eBay that they could attempt to order.
I told them to order the part which they did. However, when the part came in and the tech came back the part was obviously used and had broken pieces. The second claim, which is still ongoing is for our garage door opener. The contract says that it covers the opened, springs, hinges and lift arms. The contractor came out the first time and said they could not proceed due to the door not being up to code. When they called 1st American for next steps they told the contractor that this is not covered. I got home after the contractor left and reviewed the contract which says they will allow up to $250 to bring something up to code. I had to call 1st American AGAIN and wait on hold for what is now hours worth of my time.
When I finally got through this time I spoke to a rep who is obviously reading from a script and had to look at the contract to confirm this detail. This alone would have been except when the contract was there they were told this was not a covered cost. Having this figured out they said they would get the contractor back out to start repairs. Again the contractor had to come out (which took another 3 weeks, several calls and emails because the original person I talked to did not actually dispatch the contractor). The contractor said they would submit their invoice for approval and then begin work.
After another week without a response from anyone I called the contractor who said they were still waiting on 1st American. I then called them AGAIN and waited on hold AGAIN and was not able to get through so I emailed their customer support again. I received a response that everything was approved and they would send the contractor back out (I have this in writing). I then hear nothing and follow up again and was told that now they are denying half of the invoice because they do not cover "armature kits" which according to the manufacturer of the part said it the hinges (which per the contract are covered) and the hardware needed to install the hinges. They do not sell just the hinges without the hardware. At this point I got back in touch with 1st American who told me that it is still not covered but they cannot show me anywhere in writing where it says that this is not covered.

Our HVAC guy told us First American was a good investment. We call in, give their employees our account number and they are always really easy to talk to. They get somebody out pretty quick, get our case assigned and scheduled really fast, so they make my claim submission easy.
JT&K came out most recently and fixed some clogged drain issues. They were super courteous and called to tell me when they would be over before they came and said, "Hey, I know our appointment is in about half an hour. So, I'm on my way." And I said, "You can come in whenever you want." So, he was really excited to get in early and stay on top of schedule so he wouldn't be running behind anywhere else. Working with JT&K has been really positive, the work was great. Plus, the home warranty is affordable. As far as communicating, staying on top of things and keeping me informed, First American has been outstanding. I always call when I submit a claim because I'm not a computer person. The people have been very friendly on the other end. I would get the referral within 24 hours like they say from the vendor and they would call. Lately, I had them call me up if the vendor had left to make sure that he was done. Also, someone would call back if I wasn't getting the service from the vendors like I should.
My experience has been really good, except I have claim for a stove that took eight months. They were trying to repair the stove and they would put a part of it, but when they left, the part wasn't working. Two other different vendors came to my home and they also weren't able to repair the merchandise. The third guy did, and then they would order a part which would take three weeks. First American would always call in between that time to find out what's going on. Right now it's still not done, and the bottom line for the stove is they're supposed to be replacing it. First American came with my wife's house when she bought it. She had one year service and she kept it up. She's never had a problem with the service and if something happens, they're responsive in making sure claims are entertained. Whenever I have a claim, I call them and they get information from me.
I've done it online before but it's nice to be able to talk to a person because sometimes I don't seem to communicate well. Also, some of the things that you need to put a claim on needs a little bit more explanation than what you could put in a drop-down box. Then they find a contractor who comes out and looks at it. I get a confirmation usually from the vendor and they will let me know that they're coming out at whatever time, which is great because it's nice not having to take a whole day off for a service tech to come out for no reason. They get here and do what they're supposed to do. They'll tell us if a part is defective and call for authorization to fix or replace it. If it's over a certain threshold, they'll apologize and inform us that they're not going to replace or repair that. They also advise us to get back with the warranty company to know what we need to do next. Then I get a survey afterwards.
The last time we did that was when we had a washer go out on us. The only hiccup was when the company came out to look at it, they told us that First American wasn't going to cover it because the value of the item exceeded a certain threshold. But they said the unit will be replaced so I was waiting for somebody to call me. I didn't realize that this got entered on the electronic side and I had to login and accept something on the website. So I sat around for three or four days not knowing that I had to go on the website to click on something. When I called, somebody told me about it but nobody followed up with me in between that point. However, it's a minor thing which resulted only to a delay in ordering the item for a day or so. So if a replacement happens and somebody has to go online to do it, and I'm used to using the phone, it might be a good idea to give a courtesy call or something. But the quality of their work is 10 out of 10. Everything's excellent and we're happy with them. It's worth it.
We appreciate your business, Justin!

I heard about First American from my daughter-in-law. She worked in the journal industry and made me aware that one of the divisions of her company was First American warranty. I've been a customer of theirs for nine and a half years. I have enjoyed their service and their attention to detail. The price point is a little lower than market average, and they have responded and taken good care of me once I knew the system. Submitting a claim over the phone is difficult. You must have a good cup of coffee, a good phone connection and patience. Normal time is about 40 minutes to get through to a person. But the claims reps have been knowledgeable. They listen, which in today's market is not an attribute that is found real often. They listen to my problem then they start and confirm my coverage. Then they get back in a matter of a few moments and let me know what they’re doing, and that procedure has worked real well.
The only time that I've had real problems with them was their selection of one company that did my heating and air conditioning. This was an ongoing thing for over two and a half months and before it was over with, there were three companies involved where there should've only been one company involved. The packet that I sent them was about three-quarters of an inch thick, which is notepad notes and it's a chronological history. One of the things that developed out of that was that they approved for me to go out and buy an AC conditioner for my room. Later, it was discovered that at other parts of the United States they refer to a window unit as something different. I didn't know they were talking about a window unit.
I have health conditions and I do not handle heat. When something goes out on Thursday, I see a technician on Monday and that's from the local contractor. That's outside of their hands. Then he will turn it into his working company so that they can send their repair people out two days later. If there's any sudden desire for a part, I’m ordering a part the following Thursday or Friday after the problem occurred. This is all related to this one company and two other companies that got involved with the same problem. But First American stayed with me, worked with me, listened to my complaints, got a hold of the owner of the company and supported me all the way. Because the owner was their major contractor in this area, they saw that he and his people were not doing me right. They stayed on him, got it resolved and took care of me. I couldn’t ask for much more.
I also called with a plumbing problem to replace a garbage disposal. I can go buy them for $110, and a service call is $65. This one's already been replaced once so it's a case of unplugging it, taking both hands and twisting the entire garbage disposal until it becomes unattached. But at 68 years old, it is hard to bend over after sitting on the floor and sticking my head into the cabinet underneath the sink to unscrew a garbage disposal. When I called it in, I told First American what my problem was and they verified coverage. The local technician at the shop that was doing the plumbing work reached me. I told them which part was defective, what size motor it was and what size garbage disposal. The man was over here the next day and he had the new one in his box in his truck. He was in and gone within 30 minutes. That's how it was supposed to work from the very beginning and a few times it's happened like that.
One time my well water quit, and since I had taken extra coverage to have the well pump covered, First American referred me to a local contractor that does their work for them. I called up the number that morning and a woman answered the phone. She was just as nice and she said it was her husband that used to do that work for them. He hadn't done anything like that in about four years. I found a new man here, locally about 20 miles away. He came out, did all the service, and he talked to them. He said that after they've pulled 300 and some odd pieces of pipe out of the well, they don't just replace one piece with a new part and put an old part back in and lower it back down to the bottom. Reluctantly, First American looked into it and they covered it. Overall I've recommended them to family members and to neighbors.

When I called in, they came quickly and understood my needs and got the process going. When I called in the second time to find out what was going on, there was a mixed up since there's one claim that was put, then another claim was supposed to be cancelled, and the other one was supposedly for them. I got First American because of their price and submitting a claim with them was very easy. I did it on the phone and my experience with their claims rep was great. I was told to wait for the call from the technician. When the technician came, we figured out the problem in ten minutes and he replaced the outlet. Everything went very smoothly.

Our oven stopped working almost a month ago. I put in the initial claim on September 8, 2016. The repair company designated by First American Home Buyers called me in 2 days. They said it would be September 20th before they could come out. On the 20th, the technician determined that our heating element needed to be replaced. They called me this morning and said the next date they could come out would be October 7th. You don't realize how much you use your oven until you don't have it for a month.
Initially I placed the fault on the company contracted and not First American. I called First American this morning and was told that the best thing I could do is just wait for the October 7th appointment. What if it is more than the heating element? The technician didn't even pull the oven out. I purchased a home warranty with the hope that for paying my monthly fee and a deductible per claim, that my house would be serviced and repaired in a timely fashion. I would advise against using this company. Also be warned that many of the reviews are not from real customers. This one is. Be warned!

We were looking for a cheaper plan that would cover everything but yet not kill us and we found First American. Some service providers had a higher service fee but with comparable coverage. There's one company that you pay a little more but they will replace the unit easier than this company will. It's not my situation yet because I haven't had the need to replace one but it's a concern. If my AC unit goes out, are they gonna just deal with it? Their people have come out and serviced it twice.
The first time, last year, I thought they were a phenomenal company, but they ended up wiring it. They didn't fix the electrical problem so they had to come back out after the summer season started kicking in. The second technician who came noticed the backward wiring and said that it wasn't helping me. We added something to help us make them more efficient. And its a good thing to have but it needs to be wired right to help. If its not wired right, then my house do not have enough AC units.
It was a bad weekend probably all over the country so it was hard to get anybody to come right away. I wasn't too pleased but, overall, I understood it because everybody's units were going out and they were lying on the streets around here. It is their responsibility and not mine to sort out their priorities. They gave me the number but they said they can't do any more. For me, however you always can do something.

We've used First American's home warranty service for about four years. I submit claims over the phone and it was good and easy enough when we do. The latest claim that I had was for the air conditioning, and it was pleasant experience with the technician. He wasn't able to fix the problem in one day, and the time frame of when he would be back depended as well on the company, and not just on him. After the repair was done, I had air conditioning. Overall, it was good with First American, and I was satisfied with them.

What a horrible experience. My AC broke and after a few weeks of no updates I reached out to FirstAm. The next seven weeks were spent trying to get them to order the parts and to get the contractor to respond. Customer service was useless. They wasted weeks because no one there was following up. The contractors would not respond and not would take a week to get anything to happen. I asked to replace the contractor and they refused. My 13 year old dog had a heat stroke form the 95+ degree temps in the house. All of this was preventable by simply having someone at FirstAm follow up and make a decision to replace the contractor so we could move forward.

First American sends licensed people to fix an item, but they don't always know the product. One of them said that it was missing a piece and the warranty wouldn't cover it. The technician was very polite and professional. But I could tell that he didn't know the product. Though this is not First American's fault because these home protection plans use the same appliance or air conditioning people.
I called another person to fix this particular item. It turned out there was no piece missing, but that it needed a brand new timer. I paid this person and the item was fixed. I called First American and told them that there was nothing missing and that I paid for it to be fixed myself. I also told them that they need to have better people to fix these top-brand items. They asked me to send them the bill and they reimbursed me. No other home protection plan has ever done that. First American was very fair and I never expected nor asked them to reimburse me. I've had another company who just didn't handle a claim very professionally and made me wait six months because they couldn't fix the item and I ended up getting the item replaced.
Overall, I'm very, very happy with the service. Not only do their service calls cost less money than the other company, they were very fair because I didn't ask for any money, but they reimbursed me which another company would not have even offered. It was very upfront and honest on their behalf and they treat their customer fairly. I'm a real estate agent and in every house that I represent the buyer or the seller, I always recommend them to have First American home protection plan.

So, I got to see before continuing how reliable First American was. It's all been pretty good. We had an icemaker go in our refrigerator and that was resolved. We recently had a problem with the blower in the furnace and his response time was good. It was almost the end of the business day following my request for service but the technician called to advise that he couldn't get to it for a couple of days and that he would be here as soon as he could. When he first came, he had determined that a part had to be replaced. The part was unique and had to be ordered and they sent him the wrong part. I offered to give him the co-pay, but he refused. He said he would collect from me once he gets the job done. I've been very pleased, others would have wanted to get paid upfront.
It took a couple of days to get it resolved but the workmanship appears to be fine. What he did was something I couldn't have done. He exceeded my expectations given the condition. He even put his gauges on the system to be sure that there wasn't any other problem with the air conditioning. First American has done what I've expected them to do. I usually call in to submit a claim. The people there are fine, but the whole process is too slow, though every home warranty company is. When our freezer went out, the process took forever and we had to throw hundreds of dollar's worth of food away because whoever they get to do the work, is just too slow and there's too much paperwork. It's ridiculous. It would usually take the technicians to come out here up to a week. I'd try to contact them, but it's still generally several days before they even get out here.
The technicians were in and out. I called for three different appliances at one time. The freezer was the very first thing that I ever called on. But the latest call was when they came out and looked at my refrigerator and found out that a part had quit working. They also looked at my washer. During that time, I had to be careful and do the low cycle because the cabinet had come undone from the washer itself. Then they looked at my big freezer which they had replaced earlier in the year. They told me they had to get certain parts for them and that they would be back. They knew what to get to secure it back on. But when they came out, they charged me another $16 because they said that this had gone over $1,000 doing it.
The people were nice, but it should not take that long to get a part from anywhere in the United States because they do overnight deliveries. So those parts they put in and the time they spent was not $1,000. My experience with my freezer was ridiculous. I had to keep calling them to ask what was going on and they could care less since it was a weekend. I had to call and ask for the supervisor to get something done on getting that replaced. It took them days and days to get it out here which was frustrating. I do like the people, but I don't like their timing. My refrigerator quit cooling and I had to get service ASAP. I had dealt with an ice maker issue a few years ago and I knew there was not a repair company in my area that was contracted with First American. I know that you have to wait for First American to assign it to a company and then wait for a call, so you can be told that the repair company does not work on my brand of refrigerator. In an effort to save my food, I called several repair companies and found one that would come out but they would not deal with a home warranty company. After I got the repair service out to the house, I did contact First American and to date whoever is supposed to be handling my claim has never contacted me. They claim to cover my Viking Refrigerator but they don't have any contractors in my area. When I say I can't get a response, I mean no one has called me or even bothered to review my claim and say no. In the meantime, I am without a working refrigerator.
This is the second time this has happened to me. The last problem was a claim regarding my washing machine and when I finally got the person handling the claim on the phone, she told me she was going out of town for a few days and my claim would not be assigned to someone else to handle. I did have a claim a few years ago that was handled properly. This company has no way to deal with an emergency problem, or no way to deal with repairs/replacement of appliances if they don't have a contractor in your area.
Updated on 01/05/2017: Let me just say that I have had some good experiences with First American, but, if they don't have a contracted repair service for the brand of appliance you own, you will never get it resolved. My refrigerator went out in September. I had to go with a repair service that was not contracted because First American did not have a contracted repair service in my area. The repairman could not locate the part and was told that it is no longer made by Viking. He talked to the claims rep a couple of times but got tired of dealing with them and since he is not contracted, he has no reason to deal with them. I have been told by the claims person that First American can get the part, which I doubt, and as soon as they can find out how much it cost to install the part, they will issue a check.
Obviously, I gave up and bought a new refrigerator and just want a fair settlement from First American. I have talked to the repair service and to the other 4 repair services in my area and they will not and I mean "will not" deal with any home warranty companies. It is now 4 months later and I still don't have a fair settlement, as a matter of fact, I have no settlement. If you decide to buy insurance from First American, make sure they have contracted repair services that can work on every appliance they cover for you. Otherwise, you will be in my shoes. The first few times the claim person called, she called when she said she would, but when this became a problem, she only calls when I get ugly. I don't think I will ever get a settlement, so I would say, buyer beware.

We bought our policy with First American when we purchased our house in December. Submitting a claim with them has been frustrating. Sometimes, it takes an enormous amount of time to stay on the phone to put in a claim. I filed four claims with them. One is for a plumber to come out, which went out good. They sent some techs out who didn’t know what they were doing, however, once they realized that the techs didn’t know what they were doing, they said they'll send out one of their more experienced techs. Sure enough, a tech came within 40 minutes. He had it all figured out for me. He pressured everything, changed pipes, and put in all the seals. He knew what he was doing, and he made sure that there would be no issues. I haven’t had a problem since.
I had another service call for a light fixture, which is, by far, the one that I’m most frustrated with. I have a light switch inside the house. All of my exterior lights come on with this one switch. I told them that two of the lights are not coming on. They sent a representative out on a Wednesday. He checks everything and then told me that since it’s too late in the afternoon, he is going to come back the next day. But he never showed up. I get a call from the company on Friday. They said they’re going to send another tech out the next Tuesday. He comes back out and told me that there was power going to these light poles but one of them has a broken socket. He has to get back and have to socket it up. Before he left, he said he’s going to order the parts.
I hear nothing until the last week of July. Then in mid-August, I get another letter telling me the company has been approved to do the repairs. So, I called the company and said I got this email. And then, they told me that First American denied the claims and I am going to pay them for their actual repairs. So it hasn’t been great for me. I still have an open call for sensors for my oven. The oven heats too fast and it’s a computerized system so it has to have all the sensors and everything to make it work properly. It has been open for over a month, and someone called me last Thursday to tell me that the company is waiting on the parts.

I have many properties covered and have used them for many years but I am at the end of my rope with this company. I have had a leaking water heater for 6 weeks and have spent 10+ hours on the phone (forever on hold) trying to get it resolved. I am on hold as we speak (47 minutes so far). The plumber they assigned spent 2 minutes looking at the water heater to decide that it had to be replaced. But FAHW will only cover the tank, but they require that the 8 year old unit be upgraded to the current code.
The current code adjustments are not covered and I have to pay for those service out of pocket. While they use their national buying power to keep the cost of the tank low, the upgrades that they require are not based on their buying power and they then allow the plumber charge whatever price they want. In short FAHM is offering to pay the plumber $355 to install the new water heater and I get to pay $900 for the "upgrades." This is nothing more than a shell game to shift the major expense to the homeowner.
To make matters worst, this has been going on for 6 weeks and the leak stopped 4 weeks ago, and I still cannot get them to get the plumber back to explain why it no longer leaks or if the replacement is really required. I am sure this is the business plan for all of these types of companies, but I refuse to put more money in their pocket. They're very polite and nice. The last technician that came was awesome and did a tremendous job. He brought some information for us on buying filters that would help us out.
I had a negative experience last year though where I had an issue in getting somebody to come to my house and do the repair. First American was extremely responsive and was willing to give enough data every time I have a question. The biggest holdup has been primarily with the contractors that are assigned to the issues that I’m experiencing. When I open up a claim, the contractor would reach out within the next 24 to 48 hours in reference to the work order. I tend to have to be proactive with that. They give me the contact information of that contractor and I have to reach out to them to schedule for someone to come out to the house to look at the issue.
I had a few claims and that experience has been somewhat consistent, usually because of the nature of the fixes that are required. So, in the winter, furnace repairs tend to be more prevalent and then, in the summer, air-conditioning repairs. It’s more of a communication thing to me but to know that someone’s paying attention or is planning on following up with me would be nice. It’s generally more difficult to manage. But the website’s pretty intuitive and friendly to use. The communication through their message board is nice and they’re pretty responsive there. First American has been great.

First American was offered to me when I purchased the condominium and I looked it over and it's good. It has increased in payments and the deductible has increased, but as far as overall package, it has worked fine. The only issue I have out of all the times that I've ever called is my refrigerator water dispensing unit because every year, it seems to go out. This last year, I didn't bother calling because I had to use First American multiple times in it. I can only use plumbing and it doesn't take care of it. I have to go to an appliance and I didn't wanna pay double deductibles at that time. The plumber came in and he was really good at what he did. The only issue was he couldn't get to where one of the leaks were and I had to have somebody come in and remove a two by six before he could do anything. That was one experience that bothered me but things seemed to be taken care of.
The other is that when I bought the property, which was appraised, I never touched my water heater and one of the pipes that go in broke and I called a plumber. At that time, for whatever reason, I changed the contracts with different people from time to time and First American does. So I had this plumbing come out and the guy opened up the door, looked at the water heater and he said that he's sorry, can't help, and that it's not legal. I told him I haven't done anything and I bought it like that but he still said he can't do anything and left. What's illegal was the vent tube that wasn't put in right so I had to do that part of the plumbing by myself to fix it. It was one of those metal type hoses that leaked and was spraying out water. I turned off the water and my older son here who's a truck driver fixed it for me. I was upset about that because it would've been very easy for the guy to put and I couldn't understand why he couldn't fix the hose.
The guy took a picture from his van when that happened four years ago, but now, the water heater is working fine. I had another leak but I didn't even bother calling anybody and I went ahead and did what my son said. I go to the valve, turn it off, and redo the pipe. But it did damage to the wall because the hot water was leaking out all night with a spray and it put a hole right through the wall.
Another problem I had was the overflow for the air conditioning. The air conditioner doesn't have water in it and I need to have a drain for it because of condensation. When I bought the place, I didn't realize it but we noticed that there was leaking in the garage. Another set of plumbers came in and all they did was pound a big hole in the garage with a hammer and said that it wasn't a pipe that's the problem. It's coming from the condensation and it was a plug where the condensation runs off into an outlet that was underneath my sink. They don't fix anything but knocked a big hole in it to see where it was and say that it's our responsibility since all they do is fix the plumbing. So I called the insurance and they said that it's correct and if they have to get in there, then I'm responsible for fixing the drywall above the garage.
Still, First American is good and it saved me a lot of money. I wish they wouldn't change the contractors too much and keep the contractors a little bit longer. I'd like to see J.O. Plumbing again because the guy was really, really good and it was a good clean truck. I could tell that was very professional. I'm old and retired, so that makes a difference in how I judge people. When they come in and I see an old rattle truck and the guy comes out and doesn't seem to know what he's doing but he fixes it, I don't really wanna call them back.

To start, the warranty fails to cover basic installation. Again, this is a warranty company who fails to cover the costs associated with removing a faulty part, and replacing said faulty part. I spoke with the contractor and he explained how the scheme works. The company pays $150 dollars for the contractor to come to the location, however, $65 of that amount is paid by the consumer, me. The contractor creates a ticket of items to be repaired, and submits it for approval. The ticket does not list installation of the part, but instead, lists modification of a particular component. NO OTHER AC REPAIR PERSON CALLS IT A MODIFICATION. Here is how the scheme works. To save the home warranty company, the contractor simply has to say that the basic installation requires something more, regardless of how minor that something is.
For example, in order to install, in my case, an evaporator coil, experts (AC repair persons) have stated that welding and sizing of any and all copper fittings is always required for a general installation for said coil. There will never be a situation where an installation does not require that the part be adjusted to fit properly. If this is typical of all installation, why not call it an installation instead of calling it a modification to justify coverage. So my question to the company was what do they cover. Well, they don't cover removing the Freon to do the repair. They don't replace the Freon after the repair. All this is extra. So what do they cover. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, especially if the manufacturer's warranty covers the part. None of this information is provided to you when you sign up for the plan.
Additionally, they say they cover the recharging of the unit, but you have to pay for the Freon. Then what is covered? I have been told nothing but lies as to what is covered, and who should pay for what. I am going to file a complaint with the attorney general as well. Because I am pretty sure they are selling these policies with minimal disclosures, and when the consumers elect to use their services, they send "their preferred" contractor to help save them money. You can't use your own contractor, until they send their first, which requires that you pay $65.00. My repair costs $350. since it is under the manufacturer's warranty and Rheem pays for the part. I will have to pay $415 total for the repair. What is the amount that the warranty group says they will pay, none of the $415. It is a scam.

We had a home warranty before and I wasn't happy with it. What I read about First American online made me comfortable with them, which made me switch to them. I just tell their claims representative what was wrong and they tell me which contractor is coming and give me their number so I can reach the contractor if they don't call. We had a leak in the water pipes as well as problems in our water heater, wherein one of the two heating elements was burnt out. First American sent a plumber, then a water detection company, then another plumber who could fix the leak.
I was very pleased with the plumbing company. The water detection had marked two places and the guy dug in the one place and couldn't find leak. So he called the water detection place back which then sent out two more guys. They got their equipment out and dug under the laundry tub first, which is on the other side of the wall from the fridge, then under the fridge. That's where the leak was found.

When I bought the house, the realtors provided me with a policy from First American without me paying for it, which was nice. It was not even a month later when I had a garage snap and the motor went out all at the same time, so I submitted a claim with them. I'm a single father with three daughters. My twins are 10 and my oldest is 14. I'm a UPS driver, and I work late hours. I live in a good neighborhood but I still wouldn't like to have my house unsecured, and with all the personal items and then an easy access for breaking in through the door, it was very concerning for me to have the garage door open.
It happened at 11:30 in the morning, and it took them the next morning to come out to fix it, which is still very prompt. They were on point with everything because as soon as I made the call, within two hours, I got a phone call from the people who will come out saying that they got the phone call. I explained the situation to them, and they said they are going to try to get someone out that day, but if not, it'll be the first thing the following morning. In fact, I went up the priority because they were very slammed for that rest of the week. They did what they said. They couldn’t get me that day, so the next morning, it was taken care of. The claim was made and it was very fast. They were really prompt, and the policy I have really helped out.
I also tried to claim something else, and it didn’t work because it was within the fine line of what was covered and what isn't. The ice machine on my fridge was leaking and was pumping out ice without me touching any buttons. The home warranty will not cover the icemaker or the exterior door, but it would cover the refrigerator, so I was baffled. However, I understood as soon as the rep explained that the policy only covers the fridge, not the mechanism or anything else. That was a little aggravating, but I was very satisfied with the garage door situation.

Initially, my experience with First American was pretty good but it's getting a little difficult. I put in a claim for my air conditioner and someone came out. But the air conditioner still wasn’t working after they replaced the unit. So, I had to put in another claim and the company that was going to fix it was charging me about $1200, so I ended up finding someone else to fix it for me. And just recently, I had to submit my receipt to see if First American will still cover the air conditioner. They said they were going to have to drop the air conditioner because it wasn’t working. There's a lot of hoops right now.

My fridge failed last weekend (9 days ago) and I called in a claim to First American. I was told they would send someone out. He arrived on Tuesday at noon and after a short time said the problem was with my sealed system and he couldn't fix it. He said the compressor would need to be replaced. The next day I called First American about it and they said that he just didn't know how to fix it and that they would send someone else. Why did they send someone who didn't know how to fix my fridge (and neither he nor his dispatcher could speak English well enough to answer a simple yes or no question).
It took TWO days for them to assign a new contractor, and their rep told me that was because they had to make sure to find someone who could work on my kind of fridge (nothing special about my fridge). The new guy called me, was courteous, and ASKED me what type of fridge I had and then told me he did not work on that brand! He said they never told him what type the fridge was. So the First American rep had lied when he said they had confirmed. Then they assigned this to ANOTHER company. She called and told me they could not come on Friday or Saturday, and didn't work on Sunday so it would be Monday. Then the call dropped and she never called me back. Now it's Monday and STILL nobody has shown up. When I called again today, she tells me they can try to assign it to ANOTHER company! This level of incompetence is unbelievable. I was on the phone with them for another 57 minutes today with NO results.

My wife brought First American to my attention and I put it off because I thought it's throwing away money. Then my wife and I sat down when our neighbor’s hot water heater went out and cost her about 600 bucks to have a new one put in but because she has the insurance, in two days they had hers done. So, we got a hold of First American. After signing up with them, I thought we can go for 3-4 years and nothing’s going to happen. Well, that's not true because six months in, our dishwasher went out so I called and they sent out a repairman. Shortly after, the repairman got here and said the dishwasher was not repairable and that he would have to get a hold of First American, and they would get back to me.
It wasn’t even three hours later when they got back to let me know what was going on. Then they got back to me two days later and asked if I want a check or if I want to handle it myself. I told them that we'll handle it ourselves because we wanted black and they were offering some other color. They gave us a check, and then they sent somebody out and they put the dishwasher in for us. We were ecstatic and it works fantastic. It's a great experience.

I bought the policy from First American after the purchase of my home and this is my second year with them. I’m a realtor and they market to my office. I originally chose them because they had pest treatment included. I haven’t used the pest treatment, though. It has been very easy to file claims with them. The rep that takes care of my office for real estate purposes is great, easy to get in touch with, and follows up very well. The technicians they sent have been fine, however, on the July 4th weekend, an HVAC technician wanted to charge me $200 instead of the actual amount that I was supposed to pay because it was a holiday. I then hung up to check a few things and with my rep, and when I called back about 30 minutes later, they wouldn’t answer. They obviously didn’t want to work that day. I had to call somebody else to come out, and First American took care of me on that. I also made them aware that I don't want to keep that contractor on the list.

This letter is to notify you of the terrible support I have had to date with your company. We purchased a home warranty with your company upon the recommendation of my mother, who is a real estate agent and recommended your company. In good faith, we requested a home warranty and asked that our garage refrigerator and freezer be included in the contract. Your salesperson assured us it was included. When we received the booklet, we glanced through and it appeared to us that it was covered based on seeing it listed on one of the covered pages.
Now, let's fast forward to our refrigerator not working. We contacted the support number and they sent a technician out to inspect. He advised us that the unit wasn't worth repairing and that he had bad news as the unit wasn't covered by our warranty. I couldn't believe what he was saying and called your company. The person on the phone indicated to me that it was not covered and had me look elsewhere in the book to discover that it had not been set up correctly.
I then got frustrated and asked to speak to a supervisor, who told us we weren't covered but that they would reimburse the money we had paid to the technician. She suggested we speak to sales about the error and said she would warm transfer us over. Instead, I ended up in someone's voicemail! I left a message indicating we were expecting a warm transfer and to please call back along with the reason for our call. That call was never returned! We went on a long vacation and upon our return discovered the check for reimbursement of the service was in the mail along with a letter stating that your company had been trying to contact us and since they were unsuccessful were closing out the claim. We were never contacted!

Does not cover complete costs (not even half) of major failures. Fine for small jobs (e.g., spray for spiders if you are willing to pay $60 a month plus pay $60 for service fees) but the minute something bigger goes wrong, you're shelling out hundreds (if not thousands of dollars). A $1,300 water heater replacement cost $700 out of pocket on top of the $60 a month we pay for the warranty and the $60 service call fee. Go somewhere else. I am happy with First American Home Buyers Protection. Their claim process is very simple and easy to do. We've had our first home warranty in a suburb in San Antonio. But now we have them in Texas Hill Country, an hour away from San Antonio. First American does really well in the metropolis setting and in suburbs but when you get more than 60 miles outside of the major city, it's hard to find the contractor from them.
Over 95% of the time, they have been fantastic. There were only two occasions that I can think of that we had contractors that we got confuse when we are available then. The time that they said would come kept going two weeks later. We had a contractor come in and repair that caused another difficulty. Then we had to put in a claim of that part and had it linked back to the other one. The second they sent in was fabulous. He gave us the print out each time because there were several things that had to be done. It was for a washing machine, when he fixed the area that needed to be fixed and reset the motherboard, the motherboard went out. So then we had to wait for another motherboard to come in.

I normally submit claims after-hours, so I do it through the automated system. I’ve never had any problems with it. The technician that came out for the air conditioning recently was from Middleton Heating and Air. He didn’t do enough. He seemed like he was very tired and he just wanted to get it over with. He said I needed some Freon. I asked him if he would check the attic, make sure the ducts wasn’t clogged up or anything. He went up there but his visit was very short-lived. I’m sure he didn’t look at anything. I have two attics. So he only went up one.
When you’re under warranty, you also want them to go ahead and check. They're already here and I’m already paying $60 anyway. So I shouldn’t have to keep asking them. They should just go ahead and do it. He saw that it needed two cans of Freon. But he was telling me this as if he doesn't need to do anything. The temperature is about the same in the rooms. It didn’t change anything. Was it because we sit on a corner lot and the sun is beaming directly on our house? I feel like he was just very short with me.

So, I got rid of them after a bit and I went with First American. I’m not sorry and they haven’t tried to shaft me at all.
One night, my roommate and I had pipes backed up in the two toilets and we had to get a plumber. The first plumber couldn’t repair it and I paid $65. Then I asked that they sent out another plumber because I had to get the thing fixed and no one would believe the mess that was there. But they couldn’t fix it again because they didn’t have an outlet. So the manager of my mobile home park said there's a guy he calls whenever he has a problem. He came out and got the job done. However, he's not part of the First American network so I had to pay $160.
The only thing I really hate is the recordings as it sounds like they’re idiots. They ask all those stupid questions and I feel like screaming. They don’t know what a human is and all I want is to get things done. I don’t want any recordings asking stupid questions until I finally get the choice to select the one I need which is always at the end of the list. Chase Bank's recording is also bad and these recordings are enough to make me want to kill someone. Even so, I would not hesitate to go with First American and if I live long enough to sell my place and buy something else, I’ll probably continue with them.

Our previous home warranty company's coverage wasn't as good so we decided to look for something else, then some friends of ours recommended First American. However, First American was not helpful at all. When my washing machine broke, the first gentleman that I spoke to told me to add a claim and a company was going to come out. I called to see if somebody could come sooner because the washing machine was locked with the clothes in it and we could not get it out, but the gentleman that I spoke to was very rude and he cancelled the appointment that it had placed for me through the phone and scheduled someone else. That company wasn't taking calls, so after the fourth company First American finally found somebody that could come out but it would still be a couple of days.
Then after that company came out, they came back to get the washing machine because they couldn't fix it at my home. So we called, but they said that they would have an answer for me within 48 hours on whether or not my washer would be fixed or replaced. When I called back after 48 hours, they told me it's going to take another 48 hours. I haven't had a washing machine for three weeks at this point, so it was ridiculous.
When they decided that they will replace my washing machine instead of repairing it, they told me that it would be another seven to ten business days before I could get the new washing machine. I told them that still didn't work, so they said, "Well, here is the model number of what we're gonna send you. If there's anything wrong, then please call us back and let us know." So we looked up the model number and we told them that our unit is stacked. That's the only way it goes in our house. It can't be done in a different way because of the previous owners built it that way. We looked that up and we called them back and told them that it wasn't compatible because it was a completely different brand than what we had and it could not be stacked. However, they told me compatibility was not one of the things that they look for. In another seven to ten business days, they could send me a cash out option check.
I kept trying to tell them I have three teenage kids and a four-year-old. I watch kids all day and my house is always full of people. My stove can be taken away from me before the washing machine. I have other ways to cook, but I don't have other ways to do laundry. For the amount of money I paid First American, it was extremely inconvenient and they didn't care. They told me this is the way it works no matter what. I told them that whenever I tried to get down to get on the ball and do something about my issue. I said, "In a couple of weeks after this issue is closed, somebody's gonna call me to do a survey about your customer service and you do not want to know what I'm gonna say." We've had 7 service visits, none of which have resolved the broken dishwasher. It took about a month for them to replace washing machine after they fired the first service person. That went better than the other claim placed at the same time.
This new service person came out and found one issue needing fixing EACH TIME, times 5 weeks, even to the extent of a new motor, which of course didn't fix it. After the next call, they said they would call us back in 24/48 hrs. They didn't call. It was kind of stupid but otherwise it's pretty straightforward. Now I was surprised how smooth it went last time because I didn't talk to a person. I just did it all on the internet, it took five minutes. I've recommended them several times so far.

I needed a simple repair on my dishwasher so I submitted a request. I never got a phone call, email or any notification from First American Home Buyers OR the repair contractor that they had scheduled an appointment on a Wednesday afternoon. Had I known I would have taken off work and been at my house, but because I didn't know I found a note on my door that they missed me. I called the repair company to reschedule and the next appointment they had was 2 weeks away. I did not want to wait and because this was not my fault I called First American Home Buyers to see if they could find a different contractor who could come sooner. The first customer service lady put me on hold for 20 minutes before I was somehow "disconnected". I called back and another (or maybe the same) lady hung up on me after I explained the issue.
I called again and this time the guy seemed very helpful. He put me on hold for another 20 minutes while he called contractors. Finally he found a contractor and said that he scheduled an appointment for me for the next Tuesday between 12 and 4pm. I confirmed multiple times with him that the appointment was scheduled and I didn't need to do anything else. On Tuesday, I took off work and waited 4 hours for the guy to arrive. Closer to 4 he had not shown up so I called and discovered that First American never actually scheduled anything. My dishwasher has not yet been repaired. To make it worse, I cannot find any email address or contact info of who to call to make a complaint or figure out why the issues have occurred.

I submit my claim over the phone where you can use the automated system. But the automated system is terrible. It doesn’t hear what you’re saying. I wind up having to try and get a hold of a customer service rep to be able to submit my claim. I submitted a claim two weeks ago for my refrigerator. And I finally have had the guy come out yesterday to take a look at it. But he said it’s not repairable. The tech was very courteous and apologized for the fact that whoever I talked to last Friday did not put the work order in so he had come over since nobody showed up during the timeframe that they said that they were gonna be there. He was very nice. I just haven’t heard back from anybody yet.

It was very easy submitting a claim with First American. I did it online, had someone call me, and they came right out. They did excellent work and I love the experience. It is a good program for someone like me with a lower income who can't afford to go out and replace something because the other insurance won't cover it.

I reported a broken AC on June 28th. It is now August 29th, and the AC is still not fixed! I have a tenant in this property who has not paid the rent and I can't blame them because it's inhumane to have somebody in the south live without an AC. I spent $1,100 on electrical upgrades that their contractor told me was necessary before fixing the covered repairs to the AC unit, yet a week later, I still don't have an appointment for the repairs to be completed. First American has horrible customer service and has gone back on their word many times. Saying they would cover the cost of replacement, then calling the contractor to try to wicked out of covering the replacement.
For this issue, I have called over 25 times. Every time, I have waited for over 35 minutes before I get to talk to a customer service representative who knows nothing about the issue. They assign you a case representative - never called me back until exactly two months after I placed a claim. They don't hire enough customer service Representatives. I'm so tired of these companies paid CEOs so much money and skimping on the people that take care of their customers. No company should have a way in policy of more than 30 minutes like they seem to do. Do yourself a favor and find another home warranty company. So far, I am out $2400 and stand to be sued by my tenant. Thanks to First American. I have another house with another Home Warranty company, and I have had no problems with them, plus, they are far less expensive than First American Home Warranty.

Working with the claims rep was a good experience. Plus, the work of the technicians has been great. A lot of people are really down on home warranties for some reason, saying that they refuse to fix anything because it's too old. I tell everybody that they should call First American because I haven't had that experience and everything I've called to First American has been fixed.
We appreciate your feedback, Sherry.

All my claims to First American had been responded to very quickly with reputable technicians. Most of the works done were very good while some of the plumbers that came out have been unable to take care of a blockage. They kept telling me I have rips but there are no rips anywhere near my house. A lot of them wanted to sell me other services over and beyond what First American provided. But overall, they're a very good and responsive company. There have been a couple of times that have been very emotional to me and they've been very good and empathetic about dealing with that. I had a flood in my kitchen that just was unbelievable because I just replaced all the cabinets in my kitchen. It had to be ripped apart to get to the flooded areas and it was more than I could deal with. First American handled it every well with very good technicians.

I recently purchased a home and our realtor suggested First American to us. We knew the realtor very closely and this is our first time buying a home, so we went with the advice given. I submitted a claim and it went very smoothly. I looked online first and couldn't figure it out, so I called in and the rep helped me through everything really quickly. It only took a couple minutes. The first contractor they assigned to the house never contacted me. I tried contacting him and he never got back, but as soon as I contacted First American about it, they got another one right out. The contractor was terrific. He fixed everything right there on the spot. I haven't had any problems with what was fixed since then, and in fact, I haven't had any problems with First American.

I'd done some research about home warranties and heard about First American through one of my coworkers. I've had their policy since June and my experience so far has been wonderful. I submitted claims online and found their website easy to navigate. The first claim I had was for the Vent-A-Hood range. The technician came to assess the problem and told me what the issue was. He called the company, got it off right away, came back the next week and replaced the fan in the Vent-A-Hood.

There’s one plumbing company that I have told First American I don’t even want to deal with ‘cause every time they come here, it just doesn’t work. It was the same issue for a washer twice and we have a $65 co-pay. My husband knows how to do all that stuff and he said that it needed more than that and the guy said no. Then a couple of months later, the same leak happened again. We had to call up our local plumber here and have him fix it correctly. Right now, I don’t know if I’m gonna renew with First American because I understand that the annual rate has gone up. My sister told me that her renewal came up and it was almost $700 a year. It's $500 right now and it’s bad enough as it is. So when my renewal comes up, I’m either gonna drop them or go to another company and see what they’re charging. I haven’t used $500 worth of work for me to decide paying that kind of money out.

My realtor told me about First American and submitting a claim to them goes very smoothly most of the time. However, the last claim has been quite an ordeal. It’s for my dishwasher and they sent out Eurocare. They’ve come out many times and they fix it but then it breaks again and they fix it some more. They replace a part and it breaks again. On the third time after it broke, they couldn’t figure out how to fix it. So then somebody else had to come out. A&G Appliance rep came out yesterday to see what they could do but he couldn’t figure out how to fix it anymore. Now I’m waiting for a call from First American but it’s been almost three months and I would like to get a new dishwasher.

My wife and I have had a contract with First American since we purchased our home in 2013. We only had to use their service a few times for the ice maker and garbage disposal, nothing major. When our AC stopped working this past June, we gave them a call. Of course we're thinking, "finally, all this money we've been paying is going to pay off..." Wrong!
The contractor they sent came out at their "First Available" appointment, which was over a week away. When they finally showed up, they said it was a compressor, which had to be ordered from First American. They ordered the part and waited a week for it to come in. Then we had to schedule another appointment. You guessed it... Another week away! Mind you, this is July in North Carolina now.
They finally show up for the 2nd appointment, "Oops, the other employee that came out the first time ordered the wrong part!" Now they have to order the replacement part and wait for it to come in, again! When they finally got the correct part, and I waited for my appointment of course, they showed up to fix our AC! My wife and I were literally jumping for joy. Finally we get some AC... 6 weeks into our issue. With the correct part finally installed, the contractor left our house. I turned down the AC to 72 degrees and waited for some relief! 8 hours later... Nothing!
I call the contractor, wait for another appointment, just to find out the replacement part is burnt out. The contractor literally says to my wife that he wished the home warranty companies would send the good replacement parts instead of sending the cheap crappy ones. "UGHHHHHH... So, let's order another part, and wait for it to come in..." Schedule another appointment when it finally comes in for the 3rd time!
After about the 3rd day in a row of 100 degree temperatures I decide it can't hurt to get a 2nd opinion, right? Good thing I did because the issue was a clogged line the entire time, and that blown part that they had to reorder. It's been cooling my house for over a month now! When I contacted American Home Buyers Protection to see if I would be reimbursed the $483 that I paid out to have the issue fixed, I couldn't even get a response! Not even an apology and explanation of why they couldn't cover it. Almost 2 entire months without AC in the dead of the summer, and I'd probably still be without if I left it up to them! Do not waste your money with this company! All they care about it getting the job done for as cheap as possible, and it shows. I called to cancel my contract today, and they didn't even ask why. They did however send me a 2nd bill for the job that was never completed, haha. What a joke!

When my AC stopped and won’t work any more, I submitted a claim for a minor repair and the technician who came was knowledgeable, professional, and on time. He fixed it and I had it working in the next day. First American provided the service that they said they would and I was very satisfied.

My friend had First American, and she said that it was great for her because whenever anything happens, she was able to call someone through them. It was also less expensive than when something would just break down. I started looking into it, and she said First American seems to be the best one. I've filed a claim online for the drain, and over the phone for the air conditioning system. It's very simple. The rep was very professional, and asked the correct questions because I had no idea how to explain everything. The technicians were very professional as well. I didn't have any issues with them.
The one that came to fix the AC explained the process, and was very good about calling me before he arrived. I explained to him that I have three pit bulls, so that I can secure them, and letting me know when he was going to walk into the house or leave. I really appreciated that. He figured out the problem right away, took the piece, and then came back with the correct piece to fix it. That was really quick too. He did caution me when he took it and said that it may take him a little bit long to find it but he was able to get it right away. It was like a week turnaround. It worked perfectly, and he did a great job. I've recommended First American to my family members.
We appreciate your business, Edith.

Well, I did last night! 08-25-2016: Set up this new account. With more than a month's worth of wasted time and energy, calling my claim manager, the air conditioning is still not fixed. In fact, the 08-08-2016 Purchase Order is STILL pending as of this date. More than a month of 100 to 108 degrees weather... stripping wallpaper and painting in an 88 degree house... So many phone calls to First American, I've lost count. Take my advice: FIND ANOTHER HOME WARRANTY COMPANY! First American Warranty Company, is not concerned about service or communication. ie. Do not expect a timely response to your telephone calls, service or repairs...

When I originally signed up, most things were covered. Then I got a notice that now almost nothing is - no component that is likely to break anyway. And they outsourced their call centers to overseas so it is impossible to get in touch with anyone who speaks understandable English. I won't continue doing business with them and do not recommend anyone else to sign up or continue with them.

After that I tried calling the contractor and he never responded back. I called First American and they contacted him and also asked him to call and give me or them an update. But no response from him. Today - August 25th, I called him again but no luck. Called First American and they said they received a report from him saying the motor was short circuit due to rain/storm so my claim was denied. After 11 days, only after I called they mentioned the report. I have 3 other contracts with First American and am planning to cancel all of them. I can't even believe the service and explanation given to me after 11 days. Waste of time and money.

I have been a customer of First American Home Warranty for over five years and the customer service has deteriorated each year. If you call them with a problem expect to be put on hold for 20 to 30 minutes. Recently in June of this year I experienced a problem with my free standing ice maker. A service technician was sent out who had no knowledge of ice makers. He said the company Marvel was out of business and he would have trouble finding parts. The company is not out of business and the product is sold at Home Depot. He returned a second and still was unable to fix it. First American was notified that the unit was too old and could not be repaired. First American then sent out another tech. This time from Sears. He spent an hour looking at the unit and finally confessed he had never worked on an ice maker and did not have a clue as what to do.
I called First American and was told to get my own repair person. I did this and this company notified First American that the unit could not be repaired and would cost $2040 plus tax and installation. After six phone calls to First I was informed that the small print in my limited coverage to $1,000 and there would be a deduction of close to $400 for the service calls previous made by the technicians who did not know what they were doing. This whole process took over two months and I still have not received any payment from them. This is a very difficult company to deal with and I advise you not to do so.

We called after our dishwasher broke six weeks ago. It took 10 days for them to get a contractor to the house. After he submitted his order for a part and we verified over the phone with the company, we have gotten five different answers as to what the holdup is. Each time we call, the customer service rep is either unable to tell us whether the part was ordered or tells us that it was indeed ordered and is shipping. We had yet another agent indicate that there was nothing in the file for this claim.
It has now been four weeks since the contractor left our house and there has been no calls from the home warranty agency. Again, when we initiate phone call we get unclear and contradictory answers. What makes this even worse is that we had another claim a few months ago with a broken garbage disposal. Again, it not only took two weeks for the contractor to get out, but again three more weeks for the company to determine what the contractor already determined, let alone order the device. There was also no phone contact on their end and no clarity with regard to how they were going to handle this. We will certainly not renew as this is not a reputable company.

First American came with the home when I bought it 19 years ago. I just sold that home and bought a new one, and I requested my realtor to get First American as my home warranty company. However, I don’t think any of the warranty companies are really great. In fact, in the 19 years, I switched to another company which I felt was even more inferior, so I went back to First American. It really was the lesser of the possible evils available to me. Submitting a claim with First American is fairly easy. To get a quality person out in an expedited manner is rather difficult. None of them come out quickly. They get the job done, but the work is done at the cheapest possible level. Whatever is broken will wind up getting fixed but I wouldn’t rave about any of them. However, I think it’s better than nothing which is why I continue to use them. They're average, at best, which is better than nothing.

I have yet to get a call. This insurance is less expensive than others but you get what you pay for and I plan to replace this company at the end of my contracts.

I call whenever I have a claim and let First American know what is wrong and then they have somebody call me back to schedule a time for the maintenance person to come over. We have called twice - once for the furnace and once for the air conditioner. After the repair, we ended up not using the furnace for the rest of the year because our electric bill is $500 so we don’t know if it actually works. We use the ceiling heater instead. Then our air conditioner didn’t work and First American had someone out to fix it. It works fine now.
