A friend of mine had First American for a very long time. They’ve done good service with him. He’s only had a couple of instances that he had a problem where he had to wait too long for something to get fixed so I figured I would try First American first. Submitting a claim has been easy, but the people that they choose to use sometimes are not the most efficient.
The last technician that came out to do my air conditioning unit was very thorough. He knew what he was doing, but it took them longer than expected to get here, and also in fixing the problem. He’s supposed to be here today to fix my washer. I called them three days ago, and he told me he had to order the part. I decided to go upon myself and called the guy I used to use all the time. He said he can get it for me today and he can be here this morning.
So the difference between services is slightly ridiculous but that bothers me. The cost difference doesn’t bother me too much because it costs me $65 for First American but then I pay $50 a month for it, and if I’m only gonna spend $190 anyway, which is what it would cost me to fix my washer today with my guy, I wouldn’t even have to have a home warranty. I could have had it done that day instead of now it’s three days later and my guy would hopefully be here before 5:00. My guy can give me a time to be there and that seems to be my biggest problem with First American because I can’t take off work and give them a four-hour block of time that I can be at home.
They’ve been very nice speaking to me and professional. But the people that First American have chosen to be their contractors to get the job done have been slow. If they would allow the customers to find the vendors, it would probably be even better or at least for me. I have a bunch of people I used to use for all these things. Just like with the air conditioning company, I called to see how long it would take for them to get out here and they could have taken care of it in two days and it took a week and a half for First American's contractor to do it completely. They had to come back out and charge the system on a different day because they didn’t have the right stuff, and the same thing happened with the washing machine.

I've always been satisfied with First American. I call in when submitting a claim, then they call somebody and then they contact me. Usually, somebody comes over within four days. Also, my interactions with their reps have been great and I have recommended First American.

When I've had to file a claim to First American, I called them, put in payment, and told them what's wrong. Most of the techs they've sent were nice. But the bug people never showed up and we ended up having to switch companies. Other than that, everything else has been fine.

When we bought our home, we were told to get a home warranty and First American was recommended. We’ve once filed a claim over the phone and it was trouble-free. Everything was handled professionally and courteously. The claims representative was fantastic. She directed me as to what to do and it was handled exactly the way she said it would be. Everything worked out fine for us. The technician was exceptional. He came out twice - once to diagnose and once to repair. He was very knowledgeable and willing to speak on the issues, so I couldn't have asked for more. Topnotch quality as well so I'm very happy with the service and I would be quick to recommend it.

I live in Houston Texas and this is the worst company I have ever dealt with. They send unlicensed locksmith to my home. They charge a 65 co-pay but don't do the work. The contractors just leave. I'm going to sue First American Home Warranty for breach of contract. The plumber found a tiny leak, which he would not repair and said it was responsible for a 13,000 gallon water in one day. Turns out the water meter transmitter was bad. The appliance repairer would not fix the shaky washing machine suspension. The locksmith they sent to my home was not licensed. FAHW has been a disaster from day one.

Their contractors are rude. And then use excuses to get insurance out of having to do work. Their plumber says I had mold and could not work. I asked for 2nd opinion plumber, they refused. So got 2 other plumbers out of network. How funny that they say not a problem. Willing to fix leak. Not enough mold if any to be a problem. Both are 5* plumbing companies, say this. This insurance makes no sense. Not to fix leak first. Then if mold really found to take care of it. Sounds more sensible to me.

I've been with First American for four years. The first year was an auto renewal thing. And then, I've used them and for the most part, I'm satisfied. I submit claims online. And then, I wait for the contractor to contact me. If not, I'll reach out and see if I can get in touch with them and get things moving. The contractors have been very responsive. The people at First American are very accommodating when I call. They've sent out two guys for the most part. Because they are all warranty company and I call in a lot of contractors in my profession. However, I had a couple of problems where I've had issues getting reimbursed. But in the end, they worked it out. It just took a little effort to get to that point. I have recommended them to my father-in-law.

I had my home warranty with First American. In the beginning because there were no issues with my home everything was good. Once I had to file a claim it all went downhill from there. My heat pump system fan went out. They sent a contractor out to fix it. It took 3 visits due to misdiagnosis to get it back working. I call FAH to ask can they just send another contractor out because clearly these guys are guessing at the problem. No even though they had multiple complaints on this company.
Fast forward a month... the same issue. The fan is not moving on the heat pump. Instead of them sending another contractor which they call a re-call they wanted me to pay another fee. It's the same issue. I can see if it was another part on the heating/cooling system but it was the same issue. I just feel like that is ridiculous. Then they hit me with this horrible example. "Well if we send a contractor out because you said your refrigerator wasn't cooling then call back and say your refrigerator was leaking, it's the same thing. We would have to charge you again." Well Ma'am that's understandable because that's 2 different issues. This is the same one. It's like they're reading a script and all she kept saying was, "Yes Ma'am. I'm sorry to hear that. We'll do something about it." I just could not wrap my brain around why I have to pay another service fee when it's the same issue. I dropped them.

It was easy submitting a claim with First American and I had a very good interaction with the claims rep. When our AC unit went out the day after I bought the house, First American sent out a company that said that the AC unit needed a part and the repair would take two weeks. First American ended up firing that company and getting another one out right away to be able to fix our AC unit. The only issue I had so far was that they covered guaranteed work for 30 days and my AC went out again 35 days after, so that was 5 days beyond the coverage period. But the report that the company sent in to them actually shortened it by another day. The company had to go back out to my house to correct the problem, and they reported it as being fixed the day before. So, I had to pay another deductible, and it was after their stated 30-day time.

My daughter and son-in-law have First American. They had a couple of experiences and were positive on their plumbing. You never know what's gonna happen so I decided to get it, too. I submit claims over the phone and it's been good. Their claims representatives have all been good. One time, I didn't route the pre-recorded thing when I wanted to change plumbers. I hit zero which gave me an operator and that guy was receptive to what I wanted. He listened to me and followed up with it.
But submitting claims has been a little time-consuming. I've had two claims - one for air-conditioning and one for the lines going into my hot water heater. The first time on my air-conditioning, the guy came out back in September. It needed freon in my upstairs unit. The guy was a fast talker and all he wanted to do was sell me a whole new unit. He didn't want to add freon or try to repair anything so I paid him $65 for absolutely nothing. The next time, I waited a few months and had a different company that came out called All-Star Heat & Air. They fixed it and they didn't talk me into it, but I knew I needed service for my unit yearly so I signed up for a yearly service and they gave me a pretty good deal on that. I really like these people and I'm glad I ran into them. I'm sure I'll use them in the future.
With my hot water heater most recently, I had a pinhole in some lines going to the valve going through the heater. The people First American first tried to send out never called me. Also, I've not heard anything good about them in the community. I finally called them and it took about three days to ever get a response. It was a little too time-consuming to get that ball rolling. Then Above & Beyond Plumbing came out. The guy, Tim, called up and his guys came out when they said they would. That's all been positive. Everything's been good and the technicians have been wonderful for both my claims. It's been a worthwhile experience and I would do it again and I'll renew it this year. I would recommend the warranty to anybody because it's the peace of mind, if not anything else, and it's been a good value.

Bought Home Warranty with purchase of home. Contract# **. Tried to use the warranty 3 separate times. First time, called for repair of pool gear, the cost to have someone come look at it was same to have it repaired by existing pool guy. Canceled that request. The second claim was for some electrical work, they assigned a contractor who never called. I called them 2 other times and still no one ever called me. I called back and they said, "Oh we're so sorry this claim was canceled," so after 3 weeks and no contact they cancelled my claim because they said it was not covered but no one called to inform me. Had to pay out of pocket.
Third claim, our hot water heater went out on the weekend, called and they said, "We will have a contractor call you by Monday or Tuesday." For my family's sake I called contractor they assigned myself on Monday and he came out Monday afternoon, said, "Oh I'll have this fixed no prob." After collecting the $65 service fee and spending most of his time on his cell, he said he could not fix and would have to call the manufacturer for warranty info the next day (There was no way anything was under warranty. It was old). The next day nothing. I call him, he says he got a part and this would fix it. Came over, cut the drain pan under the water heater ($20 at Home Depot) to be able to get the old part out destroying the pan. The part did not work.
Then he informed me he may need to add a drip leg which is about $5 in pipe pieces from Home Depot. He would have to charge me $270 to install and it would not be covered under the warranty. Said he needed to call the manufacturer again but they were closed for the day so he would call the next day. Next day returns late in the day with another part still not working. Left promising to come back next day. I said OK. After 5 days with no hot water, I went outside the warranty and within 3 hours had it fixed and an hour later HOT WATER!
I called customer service although these processes who were not helpful at all and came to the realization that I needed to cancel the contract. After weeks of waiting and calling. They agreed to refund me $344.20. I had originally paid $535 and then another $65 to the UN-service guy. So total paid $600. They said even though they never provided me ANY services they could only refund me when I called to cancel no back any further. Even asked to just refund from the time I first tried to get service. They said no. And then said they had to also charge an additional $50 admin fee for cancelling. THIS COMPANY IS A SCAM AND HORRIBLE TO DO BUSINESS WITH. I am going to let all the realtors in my network know as well as escrow offices. Do not use. It is a scam.

I just closed on a condo last week, and lo and behold, the water heater is acting up. Called FAHW and submitted a claim. The rep assigned a plumber to the job. Two days pass. Plumber did not contact me at all. Called FAHW again; after 40 minutes on hold - first with Service, and then with Claims ("Disputes," I think it was), I was told that plumber was "inactive." Great. Only been two days. Then after holding for another half hour, total, was told that they couldn't find another plumber. I cancelled the whole request and have just called a REPUTABLE plumbing company to do the work. I'll have to pay out of pocket. This is "coverage"?

I have been a policyholder for several years, having paid premiums of $696 for 2016 and $708 for 2016. I recently made a claim for a broken temperature control switch on my washer. The claim was processed under my 2016 policy, as it occurred before the expiration date. When the assigned appliance contractor finally arrived, I paid his service fee of $65. I heard nothing for nearly two weeks. When I called, I was informed First American had concluded broken switch must have been caused by someone forcing it and, thus, not "normal wear and tear." Thus they said it is not covered. I believe every Real Estate Broker in the country should be aware how these people conduct business before they recommend this so-called "warranty" to anyone. I doubt whether this review will be posted, because it exposes what this coverage really is.

I've had a few home warranties through a competitor of theirs and received this through the purchase of my new home. I filed a claim for a leaking hot water heater, was given a contractor to replace it and scheduled a time to assess the problem very quickly. My contractor arrived and informed me of several other fees that were not covered under my warranty to modify my existing plumbing to use the water heater that they had to install. Those fees were more than a new water heater even cost. After calling First American to question the charges they stood by the contractor and also claimed it would be my responsibility to pay to have my own plumbing modified to use a water heater that I am not choosing.
I've filed this exact claim with other home warranty providers in the past and happily paid my service call fee but was not charged any additional fees myself. My fault is not with the contractor for having those fees, because I am a business owner myself and understand the cost of doing business, but if I charged any fee whatsoever for warranty work I would be put out of business. Get your checkbook out of you use First American. I will never use their service again, will immediate be returning to my old home warranty, and will not only never refer this home warranty to anyone but will strongly discourage everyone from using their service as well as inform my realtor who suggested this provider to me to use one of their competitors.

Submitting a claim to them is easy. I do it online and then I'd receive a call from the contractor the same day or the very next day, and it was quick. Their techs were very professional. They quickly knew what the issue was and got the work done. The quality of their repairs is as good as I can get. Lucky for me that the contractor worked really well with my schedule because I had to cancel twice for the work. The whole process has been super easy and fast. I have had no problems the first 2 years. However, my 3rd contract has proven they have changes their service. My stove went out Jan 30. It is now April and it is not fixed. The customer service said they can take as long as they need to and can come out when they want to. I have had 6 technician visits, 6 missed days from work, and still no repair, and it keeps getting worse. This is a 3 year old stove! Time for a new company. I think I have done my due diligence as a customer, by waiting through 5 hour appointment times for a technician that is always late. The customer service is rude, and not helpful. They appear to be interested in the bottom dollar and not their customers.

I have experienced the WORST customer service from the First American Home Warranty Company. I was lied to by multiple supervisors in the company, I was never once contacted back by any Manager even after leaving more than 5 voicemails (which is the only way to contact them apparently). I was given the runaround by every person that I spoke to and because of an error on the part of the company themselves I followed their instructions and then after I did they denied my claim based on the instructions that they gave me. I am now being forced to pay for a 1500 dollar repair on something that is covered under my warranty but was voided because of the action that I took based on what 2 different supervisors in the company informed me to do.
I never once received a callback from any staff member including my specific Claim review specialist who was assigned to my case. I spent over 25 hours on the phone never being able to get a hold of any of the people who were supposed to help me. I would not only never recommend this company to anyone but I would highly advise anyone who was thinking of using this warranty company to run in the opposite direction. I am disgusted by how I have been treated and the amount of disrespect I have received.

When attempting to use First American home warranty to troubleshoot and repair an air conditioning leak that was ruining a bedroom ceiling the claim was denied because of faulty installation. On review it was determined that I had indeed purchased the upgrade to the premier coverage that covers installation problems. So now most of if not all of the cost of the work was denied for "modifications". The technician was very good and I hope the problem is indeed fixed... but meanwhile I paid a $65 service call and a $764 bill for work done. The first attempt to use American Home warranty was for a water leak... The plumber told us all they will allow to be done is put a clamp on it and then due to the old condition of the pipes they more than likely will leak somewhere else. We had the whole house re-piped... $9000 plus a $65 service fee. So far not very happy with results.
UPDATED ON 04/24/2017: First American Home Warranty responded to my original review with simply a message "All is well." Yes the unit was repaired at a cost of $800 to repair not replace the drip lines. Not to mention that they changed their original improperly installed verbiage which would have been covered to "modified" which is not covered (I think because it is a made up phrase that could actually mean the equipment is not exactly in the same spot or condition that the unit was turned on). Look at the multiple reviews on here and make up your own mind.
Also they did not add to their response that they sent a letter saying the upper air conditioning is no longer covered until it is properly fixed and proof of which is presented to them. Retaliation for posting on here? They state that the unit was properly fixed even on here. Why no letter stating your upper air conditioning system is once again covered. Does anyone know if they are governed by the same state insurance board as say homeowners insurance??? Or are they governed by the Consumer Affairs type branch of state watchdogs or does it vary by state to state?

We've had a couple of claims with First American for some small things and they have handled it very well. The first claim that we had was for our range. A couple of the burners quit working. I've tried submitting claims online and it's a little bit limited with the choices. We've got a slide-in stove and oven and they only had a free-standing and a built-in in their options. It would be nice if they give you a dropdown menu to pick from and work your way through them. So, I called it in and calling seems to work a little easier. Then, it takes three or four days for someone to come out.
We also had a relay that went bad on our heating and air conditioning. It took seven days so it was kind of inconvenient especially when everything in the house is getting really humid and it took a week for it to dry out again. They call somebody off of your list of approved repair people, finally get it scheduled then it takes a few days. It also takes a couple of days for them to order the part. So, a couple of days here and there and you're up to a week. But it's gonna be the same no matter where you go and it's been not too bad.

But my most preferred option is online. Though they're very responsive when I called them. The time that the technicians come out depends on the severity of the issue. If it is something which I cannot live without, I would prefer that somebody comes within 24 hours or as soon as possible. The last time when I had issues I could live without headache, so 48 hours was okay. And the claims rep that I talked to was good. But the service fee of $75 is too high.

I put in a request for my air conditioning to be fixed. I was told that I would be contacted by their contractor. My dissatisfaction with their contractor aside, I called FAHW to ask what the next steps were for getting someone out to my property. The agent that I spoke with told me that she called the contractor. Was told that they would have to reschedule me. I found that unacceptable and asked her what the procedure is if I wanted a different contractor. She (without asking me) canceled the original service request and put another in. I then asked to speak to a supervisor. The agent advised that she could not transfer me and I would have to call back. When I questioned her, she became upset and told me that's all she could do for me.
I called back and asked for a supervisor. This agent was surprisingly able to transfer me. The supervisor stated that the other agent I spoke with wrote in the notes that she was able to get ahold of anyone at the company and left them a message. That is completely different from what she told me. Unfortunately, I am still waiting for my A/C to be fixed, and I've lost faith in my home warranty company. Do not get a policy from this company. Go with any other company than this one.

Original Review: April 13, 2017
I have been with this company for over ten years. They repair small problems but when it came to replacing the dishwasher which their technician recommended they did not do it. They told me to install a stop valve. It already has a stop valve. Then they were asking me to get a report from an independent plumber that the water pressure is correct. This has been going on for over a week. Don't know what they will say after I get the report. I got fed up, bought a dishwasher from Sears and cancelled the warranty. They don't want to spend for replacement.

Submitting a claim with First American was sometimes easy. But, it seems like whenever I call for air conditioning, it was always difficult. I've had First American for four years and one time they sent out a technician, who has always pushed the limit to call back and he'd say he'll come out but then he's not always on time. And he's like a smart aleck when he gets here. So I called and told the First American rep not to send him anymore. However, they said that I had to file a written claim and it somewhat upsets me. Another issue I had is that the costs keep going up. It started out at $50 then this year it became $75. I also didn't like all of the technology that you have to go through to speak to a live person. I'm old and I don't do well with these recorded things. My first experience with this place was quite awful. I called them on Sunday April 9th and spoke with a customer service rep that was extremely hard to understand. When I called I explained that my sump pump line running out to the ditch in the front yard was leaking water and creating a sink hole in front of my house. The guy I spoke with said it was covered under the home warranty but the sink hole would not be covered and of course I said that's not an issue at all. So they call a company and we set up for them to come out on Tuesday. Guy shows up and I hand him a check for $65 dollars because that's what is required per my home warranty. He goes out and digs up more dirt around where the sink hole is and confirms that it is leaking. He calls First American Home Warranty and is told that because the line is outside my house that is not covered.
So by this point I've now called off work to have this guy come out which cost me over $300 dollars on top of the $65 I just paid him all to be told its not covered. Now even though I was quite upset that 2 days prior I very clearly explained the situation and was told one thing and now being told another I decided to call to hopefully get whatever confusion cleared up. The first lady I spoke with was named Lilly and while she was not able to help much she did tell me that they would have another person come out for a second opinion and that I'd receive a phone call within 30 minutes or so and of course no one ever called. Later that afternoon I call back and spoke with a male this time. He was not professional whatsoever. He told me that I should of read my home warranty more closely and that there is nothing he can do to help me.
So I then spoke with a supervisor who's name was Manni. I asked him if his employee told me it's covered why are they not honoring that and he just kept telling me that he don't know why I was ever told that but there is nothing they can do. After several minutes of going back and forth he says they will return the $65 dollars which I still don't believe that is enough. All because an employee of First American Home Warranty does not know his job well enough and gave me wrong information. It's now costing me over $300 dollars from missing work on top of now I have to pay this company another $350. I don't ever write reviews on places or badmouth a company because most of the time it is out of their hands but my issue is that they should at least honor what they told me and fix the line but instead told me sorry about your luck. Think twice before going with this company.
We appreciate your feedback and look forward to being able to address your concerns directly with you.

The warranty company didn't care. Everyone I spoke with made up a new lie. My poor children and I are roasting and I have a baby! They don't care. It's been a week so far and I'm still waiting to hear from someone. Do not use this company! I've never experienced such horrible service and they sent out the bottom feeders to repair your broken appliances or in my case air.

I will not be renewing my contract with FAHW in June. I have been sent to the claims department to no avail. Dealt with a very rude rep who would call Fridays at 4:00 Arizona time. Most of the reps barely speak English and have no idea what is going on with a service issue. I waited 2 months for a simple refrigerator issue to be fixed, an entire month for a panel on my dishwasher to be fixed, air conditioning fixes that were just a band aids. I have chosen to deal directly with the contractors and have come to find out FAHW holds up repair approval for weeks. Even the contractors are frustrated. Time to shop for new warranty.

In November 2016 I attempted to contact a vendor to return to my site to finish the job he started. He refused. I contacted FAHW and they in turn contacted the vendor and he refused their request. I was told FAHW would try and find another vendor and I would be contacted. After 3 months I contacted FAHW once again. I then was contacted by a person named Melinda from Contractor Relations who informed me that since I did not contact the vendor within 30 days, I would have to open a new claim and pay a new service visit. I then called and spoke with a front line supervisor who said he understood and could see the notes in the file where I had followed their rules back in November. He would escalate my request to upper mgmt.
One week later after not hearing from him or FAHW I called back and was told by a Customer Relations Supervisor he could not see any notes in my record that I called one week ago. Nor could he see any record of my calls back in November. I am up for renewal of my home warranty – you can count on the fact it won't be FAHW. They do not seem to keep good records of when customers call in and what is said. They only seem interested in getting that first check and do not follow through on any customer issues.
My recommendations on anyone considering FAHW is to save your money and seek out a more reputable home warranty company. FAHW is one of the more cheaper companies, but as they say, "You get what you pay for". As for the vendors they have contracted for service, do it for the business because the higher grade companies do not need to.

First American Home Warranty is such a scam. They are truly a scam company. My husband and I do not recommend anyone to have this service. We have it and they did not service us the way they should. We call them regarding to our water heater issue. They sent out some unprofessional plumber guy who worked for Reilly plumbing Company to our house. The plumber called us and told us that he will be arrive from 10:00AM - 2PM however, he didn't show up to our house until 10:00PM (we had wasted our whole day waiting for this guy and frustrated of calling multiple time to the 1st American Home customer service). Not only that by the time he arrived, after diagnostic he told us that we needed to replace thermocouple and the funny thing was he didn't have any thermocouple part left in his car. He ran out of part and told us nothing he could do at the moment and left.
Before he left he told us that he did not work on Sunday but will contact his company to see if they can sent someone to our house on the next day to replace the part for us. However we didn't hear anything back from him as well as the First American Home. We had to end up calling other private plumber to fixed for us and paid them $250 for urgent service since we have a newborn baby at home (need hot water badly). Not only that, now we received an invoice bill from 1st American Home for a charge of $65. I understand that we still have to pay $65/service if they found no problem occur however there was something wrong with my water heater and they didn't have part to fix it. I don't want to pay $65 for unfinishing job. That's a scam!!!
First American Home Warranty is extremely scam and provide a extremely bad customer service. I don't think they even care what their customer review or talk about them!!! Again do not recommend to anyone and next time when I help my customer buy or sell the home. I myself would not recommend them to buy 1st American Home Warranty!

I went with First American after one of my friends told me to look into them. I've had some good and a couple of bad experiences with my claims. For the good ones, the people called me back right when they were supposed to and they came and solved the problem. The bad ones were when the technicians didn't fix the problem. First, one tech came out, didn't do anything but turn a little knob even though I told him the issue, and that didn’t sit well with me. The second one, somebody was sent for my water heater and then it took them three or four days to find somebody who could work on it. They sent a guy out who didn’t fully know about the brand of water heaters and the water heater is still not fixed. First American is easy to get ahold of but I don't like some of the people they send to me. Still, my interactions with them are usually good and I'm satisfied.

The service tech from First American came here to fix the dryer four times. The first time, the guy said he had to get a fuse for it. Then the second time he came back, put a fuse in and it was working fine. My aide went down and took the clothes that she had washed in the dryer. Then she said the dryer was not working right and the clothes were not dried. And then for the third time, the guy said that he brought another fuse with him. So he came out, looked at it and said I needed another kind of fuse 'cause something keeps blowing that fuse out. He came back out and put another fuse in. And then my aide put the clothes in the dryer and it's still not drying. We turned up the heat and put it on radiator and dried the clothes that way.
The fourth time they sent out this guy, he took the bottom part loose and said he found what it was. So my aide rewashed the clothes she had in the dryer from before and put them in the dryer again. And then she said the man doesn't know what he's doing. I called the troubleshooter and he said he'll call back in about 10 minutes. When he did, the aide answered the phone and said they're getting us a new dryer.
They have good service but it was hard to pinpoint what's wrong with the dryer and I'm getting tired waiting for it. It's been over a month now trying to fix the dryer and our clothes are not washed up. And then I heard some place that they give a voucher and I can go buy a dryer myself or they bring something else to my house. But I don't know about First American bringing it to my house. I don't want to receive refurbished because I'll have more problems than I had. I had a brand new refrigerator and something broke down in it after 10 years. So they came out here and gave me another refrigerator, but then I was having problems with it and have had to fix one time. There was no warranty on it.

I had a problem with my hot water heater and I called in on a Friday night, filed the claim, and the contractors came out Monday morning and took care of the problem. They were very good and easy to work with. So far, the quality was so good and the repair worked. Plus, it was very easy to call and make the claim. All I needed was my account number and the response was very quick especially for a weekend and non-business hours for the contractor. I'm sure had the claim been an emergency, First American would have addressed it even faster.

Our air conditioner stopped working December 24, 2016. First American recommended a company that came out in January, 2017 & replaced our compressor. Air conditioner still didn't work & the repair company couldn't figure out why & never showed up again. First American sent another company out... Expert AC Repair came out & replaced our thermostat. Air still didn't work, so they said we need a new coil. This is after countless days of taken off from work to meet them at our house... they never showed up when they said they would.
Expert AC has an F rating on BBB (First American is well aware of their rating, but continues to send them to clients' homes). When they do show up, they say it's too late in the day to start such a big job. First American offers no resolution. They say "we cannot switch repair companies, because Expert AC has our parts & they won't pay another company for additional parts." Well, here we are in April in Mississippi in 85+ heat with no air conditioning. It was a good idea to get a home warranty because it fills a spot of protection for consumers and sales people alike. I appreciated Chase, First American's representative. He was quick with answering the phone. I'm sure that everybody there is as good, but I feel a relationship with Chase. I don't see a point in making any changes unless there's something horrible that happens and the client doesn't get their satisfaction. Because it's my personal policy, I have a better feeling of being able to recommend him to my clients.
My recent claim was on the electricity. I had some electrical outlets throughout the house that was not working and I was having some flickering in my lights. It's an old home. It's a 1927 little bungalow and I'm not sure that all the wiring has been replaced. And of an overabundance of caution, to make sure that it is okay, so I didn't worry about an electrical fire. The people that were sent out were the people that we have used just like for home inspections when we're getting properties ready to sell. He was prompt, courteous and took care of the situation quickly. He explained what he’s doing for me. Everything has been done quickly and handled courteously and satisfactorily. We recommend them

I like the $65 co-pay in First American. I've used the service recently when I had a break in my water pipe in the ceiling and my garbage disposal which is the original, 26-year old, it rotted. I had to get a new one. The first guy that came to try to find the leak in the ceiling was very young. He was a short-term. And then the next guys that came to do the patching of the dry wall and the ceiling, did not bring any work equipment, drop cloth and a broom to seep up my floor. Luckily, I don't have a carpet and they made up a make-shift drop cloth out of cardboard that I had here. They didn't have all the equipment and the tools to clean. That also cost me two service calls.
I'm a senior citizen and there are some things I can't be doing. They said, "We'll just pack it." I said, "Aren't you going to move the couch?" because I have an all-olive couch. And I said, "Aren't you going to either cover that up or move it?" They said, "Well, it's heavy." And I said, "Well, I'll help you. Well drag it here into the kitchen." I helped them move that, swinging around to the kitchen.
I didn't know the warranties on these things. When I had the break in the water pipe which I've never had before because I'm the first owner of this house, they fixed the break. But what they don't tell customers is that they don't do any cosmetics, repairs afterwards. They are not responsible for mending the hole in the ceiling and painting the dry wall because I had acoustical ceilings. If you had a leak behind your toilet, they'll fix the leak but they're not responsible for any of the repairs to the wall. I understand that they're not responsible for second-hand damage. And I see and understand that now.
I have the premier, top-of-the-line policy and I've got a lot of things covered in my two-storey house. I had to include a crane for anything that would be done on the roof in case I ever have air conditioner problems. I'm glad I have it because I'm a senior. I am a professional girl but I don't know how to do these plumbing and electrical repairs. So I'd have to have somebody come. I keep a very neat house which looks like a model home every day. I have no children, no husband, just me and my two cats. I take great pride in my home, I have to live here and I need to have things right.

Also, when technicians came to work on the A/C or deal with the problem with the water heater, they seemed competent and were professional. On the whole, it’s a good deal. First American has done everything we’ve asked them to do and would resolve the situation for us. We get our money’s worth out of it.

When I bought the house that I am currently living in, the sellers offered First American to me as part of the purchase negotiation. When submitting claims, I just typically call them and tell them what the issue is. Then they assign me a technician and give the name and phone number. Sometimes, they would send a little picture of what the person’s gonna look like, and then they will say that the person will call within one to two days. If it’s an emergency, they usually call right away.
When we had a little leak in our bathroom sink, the plumber called us within a day and then came out. He wasn’t even there 30 minutes and fixed it. He was great. When my oven broke, I was fine with them replacing a part, but they couldn’t find the part for that particular model so they ended up giving me a new one. So, that’s pretty nice having something like that happen to you. And the work of every technician who's come to the house has been perfect. In fact, I even hired one of them to do work that was something else I wanted to have done. And he hardly charged me anything. It was really wonderful.
The communication with First American is excellent. I’m really picky about things and I have never ever had a problem with this company or the quality of the people that they send out. I wish they would offer more services like an Angie’s List type of thing though. Angie’s List is there, but I gotta sign up and I still don’t know all these people. I wish First American would have a separate business that we could tap into where they vetted the technicians that they hire and have a list of people who are available to them under specific types of things. As a woman who owns a home, there are certain things that I can fix. But I get a little leery having men come out to my home. I'm not comfortable and I gotta be careful. But if it was a recommendation, I wouldn’t hesitate at all. It would be worth it for me because I would have a sense of security and safety. And also, I know that they would do a good job at a low cost as well.
I have lived in a lot of places in the United States and Texas has got to be the worst place I've ever lived in in terms of the workmanship, the service, and the scams that go on here, especially in homeowners' shows. And so, it’s just a plethora of very bad things that go on. Now fortunately, it has not touched me. And I think a lot of it is because I do have this warranty. But my coworkers or friends that I have made since living here, the experiences that they’ve had in hiring subcontractors or third party to come in to work in their home has just been disastrous. It’s been plain fraud and horrid. So, that’s another reason why I really rely on the company to help me. I’m a big fan of First American and I’ve already recommended them a hundred times. They've been wonderful and I’m always gonna have them on any home I will have.

First American was recommended to us when we got our mortgage and we've been with them for two years. We stayed with them because of their service and the price. When I submit a claim I just call the 800-number and the representatives are great. But when we've had the air-conditioner guy out, which we all have a contract with, he was horrible. He came twice and first time, just put some Freon in it, told us there was a leak but that First American won't let him do anything that he had to try to just fill it up. And then, he could come back if I called him again.
So, a month later, I called him again and he came out and said that there was a leak and he was gonna order a part and fix it. Then he said his truck has broken down so he couldn't come. Then, his grandmother was sick and he couldn't come. And then, it was four different times he said he couldn't come and we never heard from him again.
Then we had the exterminator and they were amazing and wonderful. He came out within 24 hours so that was great. And then, our air-conditioner just recently went out again. So, I called First American and told him that I didn't want to deal with that guy that came out last summer that did nothing and they let me do an outside contractor with no issues and paid in full.
It was an easy process but it took a little bit of time, which, I understand there are some steps that has to be done for them to get that approved. But it would have been nice if they could've been faster because we were without air-conditioner for almost a week. If it was my stove, I could eat out every day and not be bothered. But trying to sleep in there when it's hot is not comfortable. But they've been great, so far. We haven't had any issues other than one and they took care of it.

So I went online, did a comparison on different home warranty companies and got First American.
I had to file a claim with a particular issue. I tried doing it on the phone because I wanted to verify coverage that wasn't explicit in the contract. But I could never get a hold of anybody so I went online. It was relatively easy to do it online and the guy that fixed my garage door was straightforward. He took a look at the product that just came apart and he was able to fix it. It couldn't be done in one stop because they don't have everything on the truck but that's the way it goes sometimes. I was a new home buyer and thought it would be important to have a backup for when things went bad. I was referred to First American back then and I've been with them ever since. They came out in a timely manner and worked on the problem in a timely way as well. They replaced my refrigerator before Christmas. Before that, they came out and worked on my air conditioning, but it’s gone kaplunk again. However, this is the first time that I've had a problem with them so I’m totally flabbergasted.
On the 28th of February, I made a claim for my stove. The young man came out, did a few things, and then abruptly left. And I asked him did I need to pay him right then. He said no. He had to order a part and he would bring it back the following Monday. This past Monday has been the fifth Monday that has passed. I've called the vendor over and over and left messages and messages because I've never been able to talk to anybody. And nobody has called me back.
The only somebody that’s called me back has been a representative from First American and that’s been about three times. The first time, they couldn’t get in touch with the vendor. The second time, they said that the vendor said that he would be getting the part and would come out. That hasn’t happened. And again, I've talked to somebody and they said that they were waiting on a part. It’s been over a month. I need to cook. I’m disabled, myself and my brother. And I rely mainly on the oven to cook because I can't really stand and cook at the stovetop. I don’t understand why nobody is calling me back from the vendor, and why it’s taking them so long to get the part. And so, I don’t know what to do at this point. I still have not gotten my stove fixed or an offer to replace it. When I mentioned to the young man from First American why didn’t they just go on and give me another stove, he just rambled around and didn’t address it specifically.

I'm having an issue with the claim for my washing machine that I placed five weeks ago. It's still not fixed. The original people that First American assigned the claim to were coming and I called them back to say I'm not there at that day and time. Then they never called me back. So I called First American again and they assigned me to someone else. They came out on a Sunday, charged me an extra $50, but I thought I'm okay with that if it gets my washing machine fixed. However, they said they needed to order a motherboard. I had to call First American and First American called them. Then I called First American again and wait on hold while they call the vendor. It was back and forth to get them to turn in my form. Finally they turned in the right form.
By next Wednesday, First American had placed the part, and according to them, it had been delivered to the vendor. But according to the vendor, they hadn’t seen it. On Thursday, the vendor still didn’t know where the part was at. First American gave them a tracking number but the vendor said they couldn’t find it. Friday came and they still couldn’t find it. The next week on Tuesday, I called again. The vendor said they still didn't have the part and I'm still going back and forth with First American and the vendor to follow up.
Two days later the vendor still didn’t have the part and my washing machine was still not fixed. I called First American again. So it took four weeks, two weeks of the vendor saying they can't find the part, for First American to order the part again. So all last week, I'm waiting for the part again to be done. It's still not. I still haven’t gotten it. I called yesterday. I was on hold for 30 minutes and finally my phone went click because after 30 minutes of being on hold my phone goes "you're done."
Two weeks ago, I was assigned a claims representative. I have yet to speak person to person to this person. She’s called and left a message twice and according to her voicemail she’s there until 5:00 o’clock Pacific time. So I'm calling at 2:30 in the afternoon Central Time and she’s not answering for two weeks. I'm going back and forth and this is ridiculous. And she was the second claims representative who was given to me because I never heard from the first person.
This is the fifth week since I called First American. For a good three weeks before that, I didn’t have the $65 to pay for someone to come out and pay my part of the warranty. So for me, this is the second month now with no washing machine. I've been going to the Washateria and to neighbors' and relatives’ houses to wash my clothes. And I have two girls in my house. They are still being potty trained and still wetting the bed. I'm washing sheets in the bathtub in the middle of the night because I don’t have a washing machine.
And this is the frustrating part. The vendor lost the part that First American ordered and First American was quick about it once, but I still don’t understand why I had to be the one to call back and forth to get the right form turned in and why I had to be the one to call and see if the part had been delivered. And if I had not called, First American would have never known that the vendor didn’t have the part or they lost it. First American never followed up with the vendor to see if they got the part. Nobody at First American is staying on top of the issue so I had to. So I'm the one having to do this back and forth over and over again and I'm wondering why am I paying First American a monthly fee when I'm doing all the work. It's ridiculous. For the amount of money just this year that I paid First American for the monthly fee plus the hundred dollars that I paid for them already, I could have bought a new washing machine.
For the past 10 years, First American has been been absolutely wonderful. I've called at 2:00 o’clock in the morning on a Saturday. If I had a problem with the automated response, I'm able to get a hold of somebody and they assign the issue to somebody. And one time I had an issue with the diagnosis of somebody they sent out, they sent somebody else. This is the first time I've had an issue. When somebody says "we're gonna assign you a claims representative," I expect the claims representative to do something. Nevertheless, I would recommend First American to a friend. I always have recommended them to people. They’ve gotten First American and they said it's great.

The last time, I had come home from the hospital and I had a small grandchild and my daughter. Then I had to replace a stove top which First American was willing to replace but what they sent me was sub-standard and I didn't like it. So I took the money and bought what I wanted. They also put the profile picture of the technician so I don't feel like other people are pretending to be them. The reps have been very helpful since they explained the policy and explained who is gonna come. The technician was also very good. He is knowledgeable, he knows what’s going on right away and he was able to fix the problem.

The home warranty came with the house when we purchased it. I had good service from them and we’ve renewed four times. I've had very good interactions with the reps on the phone. They're helpful most of the time. The claims process is not difficult at all but First American has no real computer support, and so, we run into a problem with computer access. We can't get an update, we can't get it fixed and there's no web access any longer. They don't really care about it. I'd prefer to do the claims online, but I'll have to adjust.
We had a problem with our switch sewage pump and they had to replace it. And at the same time, the washing machine was leaking. It still does but it hasn't been severe. They sent a couple of contractors that were displeased with their work, but they rectified it. Most of the service techs have told me "this will be covered by other insurances, but not by First American."

When I first got in my house, the lady that sold me the house kept First American going for another year. After that I took over. I have full coverage on all things in my house. Last month, I submitted a claim for my garage door. I called and they told me who would be coming and they'd be here but they couldn't put up a new door. They put some screws and it works good but he had me kind of skeptical when he said that he didn't know how long it would last. I know when something is wrong with one of my appliance and they couldn't fix it they'll just give me a new one and I need a new door for my garage. I was under the impression that it was covered.

American Home Shield kept going up with their rates every year, so it was time to switch out. And since First American offered the same thing as American Home Shield, I signed up with them. Whenever I submit a claim, I would just call First American, tell them the issue, and they will call somebody working in our area. And then, that contractor would call me, come out and I pay them the deductible and then it's fixed.
Last time I submitted a claim for plumbing because my shower was leaking. But the people that they called out were unprofessional. My appointment was between 8:00 and 12:00, but they didn't come until 9:00 at night because they were so busy and backed up. The guy basically rushed in at the job because they had to go and do something else at McDonalds. So, my thing for my shower for the hot and cold was backwards and I had to fix it myself. I'm a retired military so common courtesy goes a long way. So, if I can't make it right now, then I'll call you and let you know, "Sir, I'm backed up on an emergency job." But they never kept in contact with me. I had to call them three or four times.

One of my best friends had First American and he was telling me about it. So I got it when I bought my house. I also had one for my son’s house. My last claim with them was about three weeks ago. It was about my air conditioning. The first guy they had sent was the same guy that they sent last year when I had a similar problem. He really wanted to replace the unit but I didn’t think it needed to. First American told him they needed a second opinion, so they sent out this other company which was excellent. Their guy fixed it. He replaced a couple of parts and put a new thermostat, and everything seems to be fine.
Everything I’ve asked from First American, though it hasn’t been much, has always been handled well - fast and efficient. The only thing is I’d like some more English-speaking people. People who I don’t have to tell everything to twice. They’re very sweet people, but a lot of times they’re reading everything from script and I have to tell them two or three times why I'm calling. But outside of that, everything is fine. I have recommended three or four people who already had gotten through them.

I was with First American years ago when I had four houses then I quit with them. I went with Choice Home Warranty and they were horrible so I went back to First American Home Buyers because they did the job before. I normally do my claim online. I just plug into my computer and I submit my claim. But the claims that I had recently on this new contract, I did it over the phone. The claims representatives and technicians were friendly and professional but I called two times to get the diagnostics and the receipts sent to me regarding the washer/dryer in my house in Liberty Hill. They didn’t send me the receipts because I paid them over the phone and I called twice to get the diagnostic or what's the issue with the dryer sent as an email. But they went to the place on time and did take care of it, from this time, they were good.

When I bought my house, I asked that the sellers buy a home warranty for me. My Realtor showed me different plans and told me this was the best one in his estimation. I took his advice. My contract originated when I bought the house in 2010. And I have renewed the contract every year and upgraded it. I've had new things on it that I wanted to cover. And for the most part, my experience with this company has been good. I've recommended them to a lot of people. My brother has been a Realtor for 25 years and has a lot of clients that recommended this company to him. Submitting a claim is an easy process as long as I can get it submitted over the phone. Sometimes, it's a little bit harder to get to the end of it. If they ever decided to strictly use a computer, I wouldn't be able to do it anymore, because I can't use a computer.
I've had lots of claims. Generally, they are quick to respond. But I'm starting to have a little bit of trouble with getting things taken care of in a timely manner. I have a claim in right now and I'm having some problems. I have a second refrigerator that is covered. It is in my garage in South Texas and it's very hot down here. I called them a couple of weeks ago. I discovered that the refrigerator was not working. They sent someone out and he determined that. But he was unable to fix it and they would have to get someone who was more qualified with the problem. I had to wait for them to assign to someone else. In the beginning, I had better luck being able to request a certain contractor. But now, whoever is in line next, it's the one they call. They assigned it to Sears who always does a terrible job. I've never liked Sears. So, I'm unhappy about that.
When they told me that Sears was going to come out to fix the problem that the first contractor couldn't fix, I said, "No, I don't want Sears." And then, they supposedly tried to find someone else but couldn't, which I don't believe. Sears came on Monday and as usual, the man was not very friendly and was not very good at answering my questions. Kind of just threw it back at my lap. It was like, "I think it's a problem with your electrical outlets. So, you will have to call the company." I called them back, told them what he had told me. They said they had not gotten a report back from the Sears technician yet. And so, here I sit. They have not called me. I have not heard from the electrician asking to schedule a time. The longer I go, the more mold there's going to be in that refrigerator. And I shouldn't have to be chasing them like this. But I'm going to keep calling. I'm really frustrated with them right now.
I still will recommend them at this point. There had been hiccups here and there. But for the most part, they've been a good company. Some of the warranty companies are not very good at all, I hear people tell horror stories about what they've been through with the different companies. First American is a pretty good one. But it's getting harder to get the kind of service that I got when I started with them six years ago.

Someone that had First American home warranty told me about it and how they saved a lot of money on repairs. And I thought it might be a good idea to have one. Submitting a claim has been a good experience. I call them and they tell me who's going to fix it. The contractor then calls me and set up an appointment. The reps have been very nice and the service techs have been very helpful. They told me what was wrong and fixed it. They also told me what to do when it happens again. However, I had a rep who didn't speak English very well and I couldn't understand him. I asked him to get somebody that spoke English and he hung up on me. Then recently, my water heater went out. I had them come out and fix an oven which they did an excellent job on. But about four weeks ago, the person they sent to fix the shower broke it and I still haven’t got any response back from them. I called First American to let them know what happened through the automated system which is easy to use. I keep calling them and they say, “the person you need to talk to will call you when she has it resolved.”
The contractor who came out didn’t really understand the problem even though he called to ask and I explained it to him. He said, “Well, I need to see all the original parts for this to be able to know what’s wrong.” This house was built in 1994. I'm not so sure where, if there's any original. I told him, “You can tell it stripped.” He went and bought a part and came back and put it on so tight that it broke. You can turn it on only on super-hot and you can't turn it any other way. I have to either use the bathtub in this bathroom or go to my other bathroom and luckily, I have another shower.

When dealing with the claims rep, we're supposed to be going in quick, answered the questions and things I supposed to know, but it took them step-by-step. Then the technician who came was great. He explained to my wife what he was gonna do and then explained back to her what was wrong after he looked at it. The quality of the work was great, though there were some people who came in and took their time to fix it or we got to wait the next day to get parts and fix it. WORST COMPANY AND SERVICE EVER. I was told at time of renewal the only thing that was not going to be covered would be Washer & Dryer. Fridge broke down and they do not want to cover it. After talking to about 10 people in over 2 hours yesterday, I was told a supervisor would call me back before end of day... It has been over 30 hours and nobody called so I called back. Talked to 2 more people and the supervisor straight said 'it was a mistake but we can't fix it, we can sell you coverage for $90 extra but it won't cover this existing issue'.
I was lied to at time of renewal and yesterday when supposedly someone would call me back. The manager agreed they talk and read all that stuff during the renewal call because it is a contract... yet they don't want to go by the contract. They are not willing to pull up the call and verify I was lied to. I don't know if they work by commission or not but lying seems to be the company culture. I asked a few people and they have First American and said they were okay. Also, their prices were less expensive than the other one that I had. I submit my claims on the phone. The process is sometimes good and sometimes not so easy and it's difficult to get to people. But their claim reps are okay and most of the technicians have been good. One thing I really hate about First American is I have to take up whoever comes up on the board. They send whoever comes up on the computer. I think it's unfortunate that I have to have somebody different and I can't have back somebody that I thought did a really good job.
But a few of their technicians have not been great and I will not let them back in my house which I tell First American. Even if something's on the verge of not working, if they can give it a band-aid fix, that's what they are required to do. There have been a few times that something broke again six weeks after and they give you 30 days. Two weeks after that, it broke again and I have to pay another $60 or $70 and the $65 service call. That really makes me mad. Then, I've also had an experience with a repairman for one of my toilets where he fixed the inside tank mechanism with something that was not metal. It was plastic and six weeks after, it broke. There's nothing that they did to stand behind that.
I told First American to not send the people that fixed it the first time. Another company came out and they were great. Their guy is the one that told me that that's what they do and he replaced it with what it should have been replaced with, which was metal and it lasted. That's another thing I really do not like about this company. All their people are allowed to buy whatever they feel will fix it and they can buy the cheap stuff, which I'm sure most of them do. My contract is coming up for renewal and I have been considering changing. I'm not totally satisfied but that doesn't mean that all of the other companies now are all the same. They're sometimes fine and sometimes, I get a really good technician.

I switched to First American after we purchased a new house because they had a more competitive pricing as far as how much we were gonna have to spend to get the same coverage. I don’t like to do stuff online too much, so I just call their 800 number and give them the appliance or whatever it is that’s broken when I submit a claim. And then they give me my claim number and who I need to speak with, or the company calls me about a day later to set up an appointment. Their claims reps have been fine but the only negative that I have is it’s a little bit cumbersome to reach them. I have to go through multiple automated steps that most of the time don’t even recognize what I'm saying. So, that part is a little frustrating. But after that, once I get to speak with the rep, they’re great.
It's also been pleasant with their technicians. Usually, they're very knowledgeable and fix the problem within a reasonable amount of time. I have had to call one person back for a microwave claim, but it wasn’t the technician’s fault. It was the microwave acting up. However, I have had two issues that were not covered. One was on the pool and the other was a plumbing issue.

My husband and I had First American Home Buyer's home warranty - we would NOT recommend this company to anyone! They send out who they want to repair your issues - it's a small selected group of low rated nonprofessionals like Advanced Appliance Service of Winston Salem NC - they installed two outdoor faucets and within months they both leaked around the knobs! The cost of the faucets and labor was over $600 with us paying the $65 fee and when we called about them leaking we were told they only give a 30 day warranty! SO before letting any low rated unprofessional companies repair your issues make sure you're aware of their warranty policy! Most companies First American Home Buyer's home warranty company use only give a 30 DAY WARRANTY ON PARTS AND SERVICE!
We ask several times after being transferred countless times to so-called customer service reps if we could select a better company than Advanced Appliance Service of Winston Salem NC and was told no! But then offered by a so called customer service manager they could send a man whom we found out had been removed from the BBB for not having a LICENSE! The issues with this company goes on and on!

I recently submitted a claim for our refrigerator freezer drawer that would not close properly. It was an easy process and it was a good experience. I don't have a brand-new home and you get concerned about some of the things that could be expensive and having a home warranty makes things work out much better. I had a different company but they had increased their deductible. So, I was looking around for a comparable company and found First American. A little bit of internet research showed me they were a big company so I chose them.
In general, they're pretty good. I’ve had two claims where I didn’t have any trouble with. But this last time, they had picked somebody out of state though instead of locally here to fix my washing machine. It was completely a bad experience. After two weeks of waiting for them and not being able to get in touch with the company First American wanted me to use, I called back and said, "Look, all these phone number that you gave me are not valid anymore. They're not workable numbers. I'm concerned about that if I have a hard time finding them now, how am I going to find them if I'm not happy with them?" So, they said, "Well, you got to give them a chance." I said, "Well, can't you find somebody locally?" "Well, we can't now."
I understand all that. But it was not somebody I would have hired to come in and do the work. After three weeks of not having a clothes washer, I ended up pulling it apart, damaging the machine, putting it back together and it works and say, "Okay, they work so we don't have to fix it." And there you have it. So First American did what they're supposed to do but just a little concerning when a client tells them that they don't have a quality company. They tend to adhere to the rules and that's okay. Most cases might work out, but this particular case, it did not. That's not First American’s fault, that's the vendor's fault. But that's something that they should really pay attention to and not be using again.
First American is a first-class and professional company and they try hard to do what they can to satisfy the consumer and solve their problems. The only thing that I would do if I were them is to have listings of vendors in some of the smaller cities that might have local vendors instead of sourcing from a larger city that's far away.

I have tried a different home warranty company at one point but was not too keen on them. I signed up with First American and I have always had good results with them. Submitting a claim has been pretty good, too. However, I used to be able to get them to come out the next day, but now they have a 48-hour timeline and sometimes, that's not very good. I had a water damage in a rental property and they waited 48 hours while in the meantime, I could be getting mold or anything. I didn't like that. I should have made it more urgent to them and maybe they would have taken it. But the technicians who they send have been pretty good, though I had one who didn't find anything wrong and told me that I wasn't gonna be charged. However, I found out that First American charges me whether or not he does anything. But even when I have problems with First American, I'd still I recommend them because I know I can always get my problems resolved.

I've always been happy with First American. I've had my house since 2012 and it was offered to me as a home warranty. We get our money's worth every year. Any reasonably-priced home warranty on an older house is always going to be worth its money. If you don't have a home warranty, you're throwing money away. Because any minor repairs that you require in the course of the year are always going to be more than $60.
When submitting a claim, I find the online option faster and more user-friendly in terms of the speed and efficiency of the process. It's extremely straightforward. I go online and submit a claim. Usually, I've got somebody out to take care of it in 24 to 48 hours. And then, they bill me through First American or I write them a check at the time. I find the phone system to be a little dated. It even takes probably twice as long to place a claim that way. Quality-wise, short of replacing the systems that were in question, they've done everything they could. I've been very satisfied with both the level and breadth of service they provide. It's been a great experience and one that I can recommend.

I was living by myself and being on a fixed income, a home warranty comes in handy. I heard about First American from a co-worker when I did construction. He had the service and told me when his microwave was broken, First American came out to fix it. First American was the first home warranty provider that I’ve checked out and I signed up with them. Their claims reps are fine and it's pretty much easy to submit a claim. The first claim that I did was for my garage door. One of my springs got broken and I had to cover that myself. They came out and then the garage door worked for a couple of days. Then the other spring had to be fixed. I went for months and months without calling back because I thought I had to pay. And then somebody told me that if it doesn’t work, they’ll come back out so I decided to call back. They worked on the garage door opener and said it couldn’t be fixed, it had to be replaced.
Then I put in a claim for my dryer and the technician came out. The guy was so polite and really intelligent. He worked on my dryer and explained everything. I couldn’t have asked for a better person to come to my house and take care of something. I was really pleased with that. And when the technician came out for the furnace, that was good, too. I had to go out without heat for that whole weekend because it was zero degree, but I managed. And I was glad to get that fixed. First American has been good.

First American home warranty company is a company that does not care about their clients. Simply put they care about the first check that you sent to them to cover your appliances furnace and air conditioning after that they will not support their clients. What they will do is constantly send out technicians to attempt to repair your broken items. First technician will come out and repair the item. When you call First American back to tell them the item is not working they send out that same technician. When the same technician comes out for his second visit he called First American and says you can't find anything wrong with the item. First American then sends out a new technician and the new technician find something wrong replaces the part and when you find that part is still not working.
First American then calls another new technician. The new technician they send out find a new problem and he replaces a part. When the technician leaves that part is not working... First American then send out another technician. That technician finds another problem and either has to order a new part then comes back to replace the part, leaves and you find that the part is still not working!!! In the meantime you have lost well over 500.00 and food cost.
First American does not care. As a matter of fact one of the technician said there's nothing wrong with the refrigerator. So at this particular time we went out and we bought food the meat unknown to us froze then it defrosted then it re-froze. We took the meat out cooked it and became violently ill as a result. We noticed that the freezer portion of the refrigerator was not working again because our ice maker was dripping water...
Do not use this company. We do not want our refrigerator replaced. We simply want it repaired correctly and it has not been over at least seven attempts to fix it at least. The First American home warranty representatives are rude. They failed to support the client. They go only based on what the technicians tell them and each technician gets angry with the client when they have to return a second time. This company is a scam. You will not get any support nor will you get the help you need. I am not renewing my contract with this company and I'm going to alert all real estate agent that push this company when people buy new homes to not push them any longer. This is a horrible company. They are insensitive and they do not care about their clients.

To begin, I filed my claim on 1/28/17 for my HVAC condenser unit on the roof to be repaired. Today is 3/26/17 and remains unresolved due to inaction, non-correspondence, and failure to uphold the terms of purchased warranty by First American. The first repair service sent out, Platinum Repair, diagnosed the issue as a blown fuse. They simply replaced it and charged me the $65 service fee. (This is not the first time the fuse has been replaced). Within an hour, the heating went out and I contacted First American to service again with concerns Platinum Repair misdiagnosed. Platinum Repair was sent out for the 2nd time, again I expressed my concern that replacing the fuse was not the underlying problem. They added additional refrigerant and replaced the fuse. Within 15 mins the heat stopped working yet again.
After expressing my frustration to First American and the month that had passed, they sent out a second contractor. No Sweat Heating and Air reviewed the unit for about 2 hours without fixing it. They determined that it had been incorrectly serviced and damaged beyond repair. (The unit is possibly 10 years old). After NSHA filed a report with their findings with First American, I was informed a new condensing unit had been ordered under warranty. I set up an appointment to install for the following Monday. The Saturday before, I received a mailed letter from First American stating that there was work not covered by the warranty. No call, no email, no message on the online center, but a letter that takes days to be delivered. I was one day away from installing a unit that I believed to be under warranty only to be told by a letter that it wasn't.
Was I going to be left responsible for the bill after the contractor installed it? At no point did First American notify me that I would be responsible for these costs. For the past 2 weeks I have been trying to contact ANYONE to understand what is under warranty and what I am responsible for. I have called (3) claim resolution specialists a day, asked to be connected to supervisors only to be dropped into voicemail boxes, never had any calls returned, and barely any response every couple days from the claim specialist assigned to my claim by email.
When you ask anyone for a contact to customer service or where to file a complaint, they can only provide a PO Box. I have managed to get one email out of speaking to 20 employees to send any complaints or resolution to. No one is held accountable and they truly do not care about the "customer". I have seen more responses from First American on this website than my own claim on their website. I truly believe this company is a scam and it is laughable to suggest that this could be recommended to anyone.

First American Home Warranty gives me pretty good and dependable service. We have a couple of rentals that we have it on plus we have it on our home. Submitting claims is basically simple. When I call up there, most of the time I get the machine and it asks me questions. I tell them what's going on. It’s easier to call in than go online. They send it to one of their people that work for them then somebody calls me back within 24 hours and within the next day they'll set up an appointment. Some of the times it takes 48 hours for someone to call me back and then another day for them to come out.
The only thing that I didn't like was when I had real good air conditioner guy come out that I really liked. This one guy called me back the same day and came out the same day. So it was a day shorter than usual and he was really fast. Then I had another issue in another house with issues with the air. I tried to request that same person, but for a new issue, and they wouldn't let me do that.
However, I've spoken to a few of their representatives and they're polite. They tell you how everything works and the little cost that you have to pay. They confirm things with you if you had an issue. Most of the technicians are professional. They’re prompt and would usually call me 30 minutes before they head out. This is to give me a little bit of a window if I'm doing something else and I can get ready to meet them. I had one guy out, I guess he hadn't worked with the home warranties before. He was the only technician that didn’t give me a call. He was clueless and he had to keep calling back to his office. Other than that, most of them know what they're doing. All the work done was good. I would recommend them if somebody asked me. I’m a satisfied customer.

He came in and told us what he was going to do, and that it was going to be two days before he could get the part. Everything was done very timely. He came back with the part two days later. And he even called us before he came out here and told us he's on his way. He installed the part, the AC was fixed and they're done. It was great. My sister and a friend of ours are buying a house and we've already told them that they need to go ahead and get that insurance through First American.

The real estate agent had the one year home warranty built into the home sale and I am still within that one year mark. I am in my first claim with what we thought was an air conditioner drain line leak, it runs through the ceiling and behind the wall. So, we had to cut an access point to see what was going on. It turns out it was the toilet from the second floor that was leaking. So, we fixed that. However, I still got a hole in the ceiling which, apparently, another company was supposed to come by and patch up the dry wall. But still I haven't heard anything from them yet.
The claims process is easy. Just picking up the phone and making it happen that way. But in terms of promptness and follow through, they are a little lacking. It’s easy enough to get a hold of them. Sometimes, a little difficult to understand the individuals on the other end of the line. The claims representatives were polite and professional. We had two service techs come out for the issue that I had most recently. Where an air conditioner guy, and then a plumber come out. But overall, no real issues either way.

When we bought this house, it came with a 1-year warranty from First American. We've been with them for nine years now. When I submit a claim, I call and tell them what it is and whoever's coming to fix it would call the next day and tell me when they're coming. Also, their prices went down and they got a little more coverage which doesn't happen often. I've already been telling people that don't have a home warranty about First American.

We bought the house and since we were elderly it might be nice to have a little protection that wouldn't cost us an arm and a leg. We saw First American on TV and gave them a call and I liked what I heard and signed up with them. We just had our dryer fixed and they got our washer fixed. They got right to us, got a serious repairman and it got done. Everything went well. The technician was very nice and explained things to us, asking to check the hose as while he was in there because we've had the washer in a while. He said they all look good. We had a real nice experience with him. I haven't had any problems with it since he fixed it. We were pleased that they handled our claims as fast as they did. They were polite and courteous with us and didn't make us feel pressured. We’re very happy and satisfied with the work and with our dealings with them.

We have First American Home Warranty, our furnace wasn't working and they would not fix or replace it. They claimed that because it wasn't broken completely and that it will rain, it wasn't their problem. I explained to them that they basically don't care if it doesn't do its job but it turns on that's means it's good. They said yes. I called PG&E and they condemned the furnace and the warranty place still argued that it's not their problem after it was leaking CO2 into our home. The warranty only could offer a small payout that only covers 1/10th of the price to fix the furnace. Because they couldn't fix it according to them. Nor did they want to replace it.
I felt scammed. I had to fight with them for 3 months and had to call 4-5 times a week. Not worth the stress. They never kept record of my previous phone calls or records from the heating and air people they sent out. They had 3 different companies come to our house. All 3 said the unit needed to be replaced and wished me luck with this company. Very sad to see this company take advantage of people. The customer service isn't even in America, you get transferred to some other country. Highly disappointed. Don't waste your money.

There are multiple things that can go bad in a home as part of the cost of ownership. Being able to have some assistance in correcting those issues makes good business sense, and the amount of money paid for premiums can sometimes be offset by the ability to have an issue addressed. We've had First American for years and the claims process with them was easy. People would get back to me and the people who are going to address the issue would contact me and then I would arrange my time. We had a leak that I could not find in our shower that was going into our brand new kitchen. First American sent a plumber who found out that it was the valve stem behind the tile that needed to be repacked and addressed, which eliminated the problem. The quality of the repair is fantastic. Having them is absolutely the best homeownership decision that we've made.

The request is open, they sent the repair person, the repair person did such a horrible job on the Fridge Ice maker, attached see the pictures of all the back marks which was left, so unclean, don't even want to use the Fridge Ice maker now, since it's in such a bad state, he put his dirty hands in the ice maker while fixing, yuck. See the handles of the fridge as well the way it was left. First American Home Warranty is saying dispensing is not covered this is not covered all the fine prints. I am saying to them first see the how the job is done. It is made worse than what was before.
On the Microwave/Oven, the repair person came twice and he cannot repair it, wasted almost more than 2-3weeks, still not working. First American Home Warranty says, "We will replace." Ok. Thank you. Though I requested, "Can you please have Steel as oppose to Black, since the price on the replacement one is same for both the models." They say, "No, we cannot do." Even if there was price difference for 50-100$ I could have paid the difference though they say, "No we will just give you black color, that's it." So rude. I don't believe. I will be recommending this in future to any of any friends to get insurance from First American Home Warranty.

First American Home Warranty for one year was purchased for us by previous homeowners. The glass top to the electric stove cracked under normal cooking circumstances, put in a claim, First American scheduled a contractor to view the damage 8 days later, contractor took pictures and confirmed problem, First American called later that day to communicate claim was denied because they say it was an impact damage. I have confirmed with the contractor this was not in their report, First American has just decided on their own that this was an impact damage and not covered.
I've tried communicating with "customer service" people who just insist the contractor said it was an impact crack, which is just not true. I was able to send in my own pictures of the damage just after it occurred, heard nothing from First American until I called later, and they just said the claim was denied. The only thing is they said they'd buy me a new sink and then they decided they wouldn't because they said that it's old. I told them it's in bad shape and I can't even find stoppers for it. And they said, "Just because it's an old sink, doesn't mean we have to buy a new one." We decided to end our contract with First American Home Warranty after the first year, and stated that when they called for the renewal period. They said they would cancel the contract, but no written verification was ever received. We continued to get monthly billings, and disputed the billings through First American and the credit card company. Finally 6 months after the verbal cancellation we got an emailed confirmation of the cancellation stating that further payments were canceled as of that date and a $36.00 credit had been applied.
But 3 months later another bill appeared on our credit card statement showing a "rebill" for $36.00. Reaching a person by phone for this type of issue is difficult through their phone system, but a person named "Anthony" finally agreed that the billing was an "error" and we should wait 3-4 days for a credit to appear on our credit card. The lessons from this for us were: (1) Always insist on written confirmation immediately on ending a contract; (2) NEVER agree to automatic billing from a main credit card or bank account from companies like this. If such billing is required, always use a temporary credit card for that company's bills and cancel the credit card when the contract is over.

There were times we called them on a weekend and we got to wait until Monday when they get back to work, to take our claim information. But, everything's been really good with them. They give us an appointment date when we call them and they come out within the timeframe they say they will be.
We are 100% happy with the quality of their work. They point out what we need to do and I take care of whatever needs to be done. And we're very satisfied with the people when they come out to take care of our home. They have always been professional, polite, and courteous - the way I expect somebody to be when they come to the house. My wife feels really comfortable with them and she's never afraid to let one of them in even though she's all by herself. We hope they stay the same as they are in the past when they come to us for any kind of claim. And that they maintain their promptness and their courteousness. I bought my home seven years ago. The seller's realtor had thrown it in with the deal, that First American was included for a year of home warranty with our house that we bought. I continued it on. In the first year alone we used it for the furnace and the air conditioner and it saved us thousands of dollars. I decided to go ahead and keep First American with the home being almost 40 years old, and I've used it several times over the years.
The most recent claim was with my dishwasher. It stopped working, and the guy came and saw that it could not be fixed. I made a claim, and they paid for me to get a new dishwasher. It's a very easy process because I can just go online. Then a technician called the next day and set up an appointment. It only takes a few minutes and there's no follow up I have to do after making the claim. The electrician told me he was gonna replace it but didn't call back for a few weeks. I got hold of a claims rep and she called the electrician who came the very next day.
The technicians that came are always very polite and courteous. They know the warranty program very well, so they can tell me what's warranted and what's not. Their quality of work has been perfect. It's one of the better warranty programs just from the ease of access and the things that are covered, and the deductible is well worth having if one owns an older home. I'm very satisfied and I'd definitely gonna keep the warranty on the 25-year-old home that I'm buying this summer.

He identified the problem, but did not have the part on hand. He told me what needed to be fixed, but did not actually fix anything and still charged the fee. So, I was a little upset about that.
He said he was on vacation so he would not be able to come back out for another week so I did the work. I was already without the stove for a couple of days and we did not want to go another week. They could not find the board anymore and said the board would need to be refurbished. The engineer strongly advised against this as it said it will break again after a few weeks/months. The First Home warranty agent didn't care. They should have replaced the microwave. It ended up taking 3 months for the board to be replaced and put back in the microwave. I have 3 small children and First home warranty did not care that I had to wait this long for the repair. The renewal came through. The technician was very courteous and seemed to be knowledgeable. He knew what he was doing although I had never heard of the company he was with. That was my main concern - who the company that they would be sending out was because we used to have a maintenance agreement with a pretty large furnace and air conditioning company. I have been using First American for 10 years and it's hit or miss with them. The customer service people, generally, are hard to understand and they speak too fast. And our most recent claim is not good. It's still ongoing.
The appliance company that First American sent out did not call me back for weeks. And the first time I called First American about it, nobody did anything. The first rep who I spoke to did not do what he was supposed to do. Then they assigned it to another lady who was supposed to take it from there. When I left her messages, she never called me. They just said she was out of the office the week before. So then, I called back because nothing had happened. And I got another person who took care of it. He put me through a claims rep named Joseph and Joseph handled the claim. I'm two weeks out from that phone call and the contractor is finally coming tomorrow to fix my stove. But it's been nearly two months since the claim started. And two months is entirely too long to have a broken stove. It's so frustrating to spend the money for a warranty and then have to argue with them for 2 months to get my stove fixed. First American is not trying to deny the claim, it's just them trying to get somebody here to fix it.
The contractor's service rep said they were having trouble getting the parts. They called me yesterday and I told them that I needed to speak to First American, because I wasn't sure if they were supposed to come or not. Because as far as I knew, the parts were coming to my house. And the contractor's service rep called me back today and said that she talked to First American, and they were supposed to come and install them. This is the second time that I've had a major issue with one of the contractors that First American is using. I can't even find this contractor on the internet. There's no listing of him anywhere. So, I don't know how First American even found him. The first one was when my dryer was out of service. It took nearly three months trying to get it fixed because of the contractor failing to call back whenever they received parts. I told First American not to send them to my house ever again.

I'm a single parent. I've always had a home warranty and I learned about First American from a friend. I've had another home warranty wherein if you have two plumbing issues, they have to come out two different times. With First American, you can have up to fix or six claims per time. I always submit claims over the phone because I like to talk to somebody. The claims process is easy and automated. The claims reps are all real receptive and I can understand most of them. Occasionally, I get one who is hard to understand, but most of the time, they're great and apologetic for the problem. They also ask if I have other problems and say that I can have up to six claims for one tech on one call for one fee. Then they're insistent that the companies get back out and they take care of that. First American is dependable and reliable.
The service technicians are usually okay. I had claims for a swimming pool and kitchen sink plumbing. First American contacted service companies and let me know who they were on the same day. However, both of the service companies had to come back out a second time. The pool company is lacking in service techs and there are not that many pool companies in Midland, Texas. They're real short-handed and didn't get the job done at first. They used an apprentice and he didn't get the pipes totally sealed so the owner had to come back out and finish them. The quality of work was adequate, though.
For the plumbing part, the tech was probably in a hurry and he replaced the part of the pipe that went from under the sink, out towards the wall. So when it was still leaking the next day, he had to come back because he had missed that curve in the pipe and he had to replace where the P-trap is. The plumbing is always excellent because I always use Waters Edge and they're the best plumbers in my experience with the company. It's always the same guys over and over so I don't feel uncomfortable with them.

Well, I called First American as soon as I got home to let them know my furnace wasn't working so I need someone to come look at it. It is the middle of March but is extremely cold in Ohio right now, 20 degrees, feels like 4. They said someone would contact me within 24 to 48 hours. I explained that it is too cold in the house and we need heat sooner than that. The representative told me it is not considered an emergency. I explained to him how cold it is and after about 20 minutes of bickering they, First American, decided they would dispatch a company that would contact me within 8 hours. It has now been 13 hours, still do not have heat. I was able to put space heaters in one room and get the temperature up to 57. Thankfully my wife and son are now at school where it is warm. I am working from home with gloves that I have cut the finger tips off so I can type.
I could call someone else for service on my own but of course, they won't pay unless they select the service provider. Maybe today I'll get a call from someone. I would never buy a warranty through First American Home Warranty. A home warranty should at minimum keep people safe, a house without heat in these temperatures is not safe. Sure, I can call someone else and pay for it on my own but then the insurance company wins. That is how they make money, they collect premiums but don't pay out on claims. It's worse than a Ponzi scheme, at least the first investors get some money back in a Ponzi scheme!

I'm happy with the results given by First American. But while some of their contractors are good, some aren't that good. The temperature of my refrigerator was going nuts, the reset button was always on red, and the icemaker was no longer freezing. I called First American and they sent a vendor who told me that there's a very strong possibility that the control board is going haywire. The guy's English was terrible that I can hardly understand him. It was difficult communicating and I had to pry the information out of him. He was speaking in whispers and he didn't do anything. He came in, told me what could be wrong with it, and left. He didn't even charge me.
First American is unable to get a hold of the vendors. It would be like winning a lottery, if I get a hold of them. They're not answering the phone and still, it's not fixed. But the other two issues I had with my icemaker and garage furnace were taken care of immediately, with no problems at all. Those were just very simple, and smooth transactions. The people at First American are courteous professionals and overall good people.

This is my second time with First American and both have been very disappointing. Previously, I owned an 1920's craftsman style home so when the warranty was fairly useless (tech would come out and either claim something was not covered or stare at me with blank eyes because he didn't have a proper snake to unclog a pipe) I wrote it off on the age of the property. Second try turned out even worse. This time, I purchased a newer property and the warranty was part of the negotiation, so why not. The first time I filed a claim, it was denied due to some improper wiring. I paid $65 for the tech visit, which provided me with a ONE SENTENCE explanation for the denial, no suggestions, no nothing. Expensive, yes, but fine, things happen.
Remembering my previous experience though, I decided I will be probably better off not paying $65 for questionable service I received going forward and decided to cancel the policy. That took a little time and effort but I finally received my refund in the mail. Since it was less than expected, I contacted customer service and it turns out that I was charged a $140 claim cost related to the above mentioned claim. So basically, I ended up paying $205 for a half hour visit by a tech which provided me zero service. I reached out to customer service to try to understand how this pricing is anywhere near realistic and they just keep telling me that it's based on their negotiated price with the service provider. I will keep talking to them but I doubt I am getting any more of my money back. Beware.

Which I challenged and submitted a report proving it wrong. 2nd Contractor was vague and said that the switch to join wires missing -> Which was not missing but broken by fan motor due to "Wear & Tear", again claim denied falsely.
At the end I got completely frustrated and go it fixed using an outside contractor. As suspected L1 Terminal shorted out on the compressor, and compressor Fan needs to be replaced. When I reported this back to First AM, they started a new theory that since I got this fixed from outside they will not cover it, while they were OK to keep denying this for 1 month. Guys please dont waste your money, this will be a torture.

I put my claim through over the phone and they remember. They saw in the system where I've been a part of them. I told them what I was wanting as far as my claim. They went ahead and put me in the system. They treated me fine, even the guy that came out and serviced my call then. The quality of work was pretty good. So it’s the same steps that I had years ago and I've never had any problems out of it.

At first, I thought that First American doesn't need to use Sears as one of their contacts. We had somebody to come out two weeks ago and look at our washer. He had to order parts, which was fine. Then, they came in a couple of days ago. When we called, they said that they're already here. But they gave a 9-hour window between 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and that's not good because everybody's busy. And if I don't know what time, I don't know if they're gonna show up then. We can take two to four hours but not from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm. Another problem is they didn't call that they were coming until 5:30. By then, I had already called First American to send somebody else. But the other people that they have assigned are doing very well and it's Sears. Other than that, First American is all doing a good job by finding people. I would recommend them.

There was an incident where the electricity didn't work in half of my house. I had a friend that used to own an electric company and so he came over and tried to find the problem. In doing that, he undid some plugs and switches. He couldn't find the problem. He went to leave and he asked me if he should put it back the way it was. I said no because it'll make it easier for the people that come from the home warranty company. So I called First American then and they sent someone. The technician came in and saw the plug and the switches hanging out. He was very rude and he said, "We can't fix those. You've taken them apart." I explained to him that I had a friend come over who couldn't find the problem, and he continued to be rude. All he did was walk around and take pictures of each plug and switch. So I asked him to leave and he did.
Then I called First Warranty and every time I called them, I got somebody that was very hard to understand because of their language. I couldn't get any satisfaction. When I finally got a hold of First American, they told me to put everything back the way it was, take pictures that things were back and send the pictures to them and they would send somebody back again. So I did that and then they were gonna send the same company back. I told them not to send the same technician so they didn't, and it was very helpful. My heater went out at the same time so they sent somebody and that was fixed. I would recommend them to a friend.

We had them come out and fix our garage, and they were prompt. My husband gave them a call, and they set up a time. But then something came up so we had to postpone it, and they were very polite about it. Our garage is working now but I need to call them out again because it’s making a grinding, metal-on-metal sound. It was working fine when the tech left, but the next day, it started making this funny noise. But other than that, things are fine. They completed the work quickly and were very professional. And I’m sure as soon as I call them, they’ll come out. I would recommend First American.

I submit my claims with First American online if it's a simple problem that I know what’s wrong. The technicians have been absolutely wonderful. Everybody they've sent so far has been very informative, very easy to talk to, and they were not curt. Once they’ve really fixed an issue, then they're gone.
In our previous call two years ago, we had an issue with the air conditioner. Something wasn’t working right. We called them and they sent a gentleman out to work on the air conditioner. He ran through it and then told us that he'd check something else. He went over to the breaker box, and he looked at it and said it's not an air conditioner issue. It's our electrical in the box. So he said, "I can't fix it. I'll have to advise them. They’ll send out an electrician." He also said, "The next guy that comes, he's gonna charge you." They didn’t charge me for the service call. Somebody sent out an electrician and he replaced the breaker and it's all peachy. And we paid one service call, which was very awesome. We are very satisfied with that. It was very nice of them to only charge us one service call for totally two different companies. I was very appreciative of that.
I also had a water heater, which wasn’t doing something. They had to replace the water heater, but it turned out we had a leak. It was in the concrete, so that ended up costing a fortune for us. The guy who came out was very nice. They had to cut a little hole in the wall underneath the sink unit but they didn't close it up. When he was trying to drill it into the bathroom section, he must have drilled a hole into the wall. The hole is up at the ceiling line so it's not noticeable but it's still a hole. But other than that, they did a great job. They fixed the water leak and everything is peachy keen.
The only concern is that they did comment that the line going through the ceiling is lying in the trusses over the insulation. And my husband expressed the concern, "Are those lines exposed or they could possibly freeze in the ceiling?" The tech said, “Well, we checked them where we could.” It didn't freeze and pop yet but not that it couldn’t happen in the future. I am not in the position myself to climb up in our ceiling and cover it all. It might be worthwhile to get somebody getting up there and do it to prevent the freezing. Other than that, it's very good.

There are two different ways to submit a claim with First American. I can do it online where I can write out a little story if I need to, or I can do it over the phone and try to keep it short. There are a lot of prompts to go through but I get through it and sometimes I can get a live person. The ease depends on the type of emergency I have. If it’s something that needs quick attention, I’d prefer to do it on a phone call because the response on the e-mail or online could take a while and somebody might not see it. It’s a big company. I’d rather talk to a live person to get the ball rolling much quicker.
Most of the time, the claims representatives are courteous and able to answer all my questions. When we run into a problem, it usually is for scheduling and follow-up. We schedule and then the availability on the contractor would be another two to three days. There was one time where it took five days and I ended up fixing the problem myself, which I'm still going to maybe put some receipt in for possible reimbursement. The guy I talked to after was very thoughtful and nice with that regard. But as far as emergencies, they usually can have a contractor out within a 12 to 24-hour period. A non-emergency can take a little while. The work performed by the technicians has been really good.
First American's service is good. That’s why I've been with them for five years. I’ve had five years of contracts consecutively with them and not just the basic. They have the standard equal upgrade, first class upgrade, and it definitely helped me in my first year. It worked out when my air conditioning and furnace went out. And every other subsequent time except for a couple of little hiccups on the scheduling, emergencies were taken care of.
I travel and it’s worked for me. If a family member calls me when something breaks, I’ll make a phone call to First American and we’ll go from there and then I let my family know. For the most recent case, the hot water line that was above the water tank busted and it started spilling water into the garage. Luckily, my mother-in-law at that time happened to be doing laundry and she walked into the garage and looked up. I was miles away and my 70-year-old mother-in-law was helping me watch the house and she doesn’t know how to turn off the water when there’s a water leak, so I needed somebody to help. We had a neighbor help us but I needed somebody else to do the work because there’s no way I could be there to do it myself.
The people from First American were able to come within 18 hours, which was at 7:30 the next morning. They got it all fixed up, and everybody in the house was ready to roll again. They’re really responsive especially in emergencies. For the stuff that may not be emergencies, they may take a little bit of time so there’s a little trade-off there. Nonetheless, the people that do the work are doing a decent job. Within the last three months, I made five calls to the home warranty because some things started to pop off in the older house and each one was handled.

I had good luck with FAHW in a previous repair to the ice maker part of the fridge but this time the fridge was not cooling, food and milk were spoiling and tenants were irate. Filed the claim as required. They contacted their contractor and sent him out. So far so good. He shows up with no tools, no documents, no uniform, i.d. and had his own car not company truck. He took a few pictures, said it might be the door sealers (which they replaced a year ago), took down some numbers and left and said he'd be in touch. Neither I nor my property manager ever heard from him again. I sent emails to FAHW every day and said food was spoiling and he wasn't getting back to us. Each time the same answer: "We don't have his report yet so we can't do anything"!
After 3 days of spoiling food, we couldn't wait any longer and had it repaired by an outside contractor who came right away (with tools), deduced the fan needed replacement and fixed it. So I contacted their claims dept and said I wanted a waiver of the fee and a reimbursement of the repairs because I followed their procedures and they didn't deliver. She then read the contractor's report. The entire report was a series of lies. He said there was nothing wrong with the refrigerator! He said he got back to us (lie). He said he went by and we told him it was fixed and we refused service! Lie. So today the lady called me and balked at the reimbursement because "we don't pay for outside contractors". I replied I went through them and their contractor as required and they didn't deliver and lied about it. The jury is still out as she is asking her supervisor about the reimbursement. I gave her my prop mgr number so she could verify with him.

My sister had First American. We talked about it and I liked the idea, so we went ahead and bought. We had a difficulty with one claim that we had. Our ice maker went out, and there was nobody in our area to fix it. And to me, they totally dropped the ball because they didn't look outside the box. We're 30 miles from one big city and then everything else around us is about our size. But going North a little ways, 60 miles or so, there are other air conditioning people that do things, and we were able to find somebody ourselves about less than 100 miles from here. It took forever to get it settled because we'd gone out and found our own, but we didn't have a choice and we were told to. But that was the only problem I've had with First American.
The techs that were sent to our home have all been pretty good. The last one that I had was when I had a leak in one of my bathroom faucets. The tech came ready and was very professional. He had with him, everything needed to fix the faucet. He didn't have to leave and come back the next day, and I've had experiences like that outside of this company. He handled the job very well and I was very proud of him. First American seems to honor all of what's in our contract.

I have had 2 experiences with FAHW this year. Both were very bad. First in January my heater broke, and I called. It took them 7 days for them to get a contractor out there to fix it. I explained it was the middle of winter and there was a newborn baby in the house, and we needed heat. They did not care and would not escalate the service. Second was in early February. The faucet in the master bath broke. The handle fell off. You would think not a big problem. Well it was for the incompetent contractors they use. After the 3rd contractor came out to fix the faucet and 3 weeks later, they still had not fixed the problem. I sent out a real plumber, the same day I called him, and 30 minutes later the problem was fixed. This company has very long wait times on the phones, unreasonable amount of days to wait for a contractor.

But I've had to do one over the phone just because it was a little bit complicated and I couldn't get the tool to quite work. The quality of work has been a hit or miss, depending on which company they decide to contract out to. The ones they sent for my broken dishwasher and water heater were good, but the ones who came for my central air system have been terrible. I was into real estate for 20 some years and I refer First American to all my clients. So when I bought this home almost 13 years ago, of course, I wanted First American. I've had several claims over the 13 years in this house and I always call in. They've always been very helpful and it's been really great up until this last time we had a plumbing problem. They sent out a gentleman named Jim. It took a while to get him out here. He showed up in an old and beat-up pickup and came in with no tools. He had a wrench and a handful of Allen wrenches and he looked over everything and said he got to get permission to do the work and that it will take a couple of days. I already knew everyone that I ever used before went out to their truck and they would go ahead and call First American, tell them the problem and get authorization. Then, they'd come in and do the work.
But this man wasn't feeling good. I could tell he had a cold. He said he'd been sick and that he'd get back to me within a couple of days. But five days later, I still haven't heard from him. So I called him and I told him I've been waiting to hear from him. He's letting someone hang in the air for five days. I've got a leaky kitchen faucet and I've got to climb under my sink to turn the water on and off. He said he's doing the best he can but if it's not good enough then, I ought to get someone else. So, I called the home warranty company and they sent out a new technician. They came, went through everything and they were very polite and knowledgeable. They didn't have everything on the truck that they need so they went back in two days. They came back a second time, two of them, and they worked for almost three and a half hours. They got everything done and it's working perfectly.
I was really shocked over Jim cause First American has always sent out somebody that's been in the business. The second guy showed up with a plumbing truck and he's got all kinds of parts on his truck. But Jim in this old, rickety pickup with a handful of wrenches. I really was surprised that it was First American sending out this man. He was unprofessional and I did not get a feeling of confidence from him. But I was able to live with it. But if it had been in the middle of the winter and my heat was out, that would have never worked. I don't know how First American lined up the people that they go under contract with but Jim was one of the biggest losers I've ever seen. But everyone else through the years has been great. I forgive you for this one very bad mistake. I hate to complain and I've never had to before. I've always been very satisfied and they've always come back and checked in with me to see if everything went well.

The claim experience with First American has been good. However, the last episode wasn't that good as far as the job. I filed for a leaking faucet in my bathroom and it took them four tries to get out here to fix it. They sent three different plumbers and put holes in my holes. One of the plumbers dropped an antique glass ashtray off the window sill and he broke the toilet. It was a mess. So, I talked to the insurance agent and she said to make a note in my account so that if I ever have another plumbing issue, they won't send those people out. I told her that if they do, I'll send the people away and cancel my policy.
I understand their position where they couldn't send out somebody new after the guy already started because the plumbing company split it up. But I have no problem with First American. I continue to pay our copay and it hasn't gone up as bad as I had anticipated it would, so it's still within reason. I plan on keeping the home and the policy.

We recently signed with First American Home Warranty and all seem to be good until we had a problem with our home AC unit. We placed a call to First American Home Warranty and they set up it with the contractor NorthStar Mechanical (Dallas Texas) to come out. They told me "it was going to be a few hours and the tech would call you." Was more like 9 hours and the tech showed up at 8:30pm which was very strange? So the tech looks at the AC unit and tells me the blower motor is out. He then goes to his pickup (just a plain white truck?), grabs what looks like a used motor. All beat up looking and missing some paint. I questioned him about the motor and he tells me, "it looks this way because it was rolling around in the truck." Mmmm Ok that's good to know. NOT. So that problem got fixed, but wait there is more.
About a month later I'm having problems again with the AC unit. We placed another call to First American Home Warranty and ask that a different contractor be sent out, but nope they sent NorthStar Mechanical again. He checks the AC unit and tells me the entire upper unit will need to be replaced. Writes it up and leaves. Now I'm responsible for any upgrades and code requirements. So I call NorthStar Mechanical and talk to them about the upgrades and codes. Some of which I don't need because I'm not in the CITY but in the COUNTY which doesn't have the same code requirements. So we go back and forth talking trying to get it straightened out for 4 WEEKS. That's if you can get them on the phone (meaning I had no AC or Heat for 4 weeks). I even called the city inspector to verify this and gave NorthStar Mechanical his direct number and still got nowhere with this company.
It doesn't matter how you look at. The bottom line is poor customer service on both sides, because First American Home Warranty would not provide me with a different contractor even when we told them the problem is still not resolved after 4 weeks and all we did was complain about the company lack of customer service with the contractor. NorthStar Mechanical would not call me back to set forth on getting the problem resolved even after I provide them with the information. Also when calling NorthStar Mechanical their voice prompt tells you they are open 8am-5pm in my time zone but you can't get anyone on the phone after 4pm. Trust me we have tried for several days when they told us they would calls us back but never did.
If I treated my customers this way, well I wouldn't have any customers. Zero stars for both companies. We thought First American Home Warranty was the right way to go. Please review and do your homework better than me because you don't want to have to deal with this type of crap. So much for American made Companies around here.

However, when I submitted a claim for my ice making machine, I had some problems trying to get people understand what I was talking about because it's a commercial type of ice machine. Ice machines on ice boxes and refrigerators are a lot different than that. It took me a while to finally get through to the people at First American what I needed because they sent a couple of different stuff. Repair people would call me, I would tell them what I wanted, and they would say they can't work on my claim. I finally asked the lady to go back and look on the records and find the people that fixed the thing a couple years ago. They found their name and called them, and they came out and got it fixed.
Also, I'm getting concerned about the fees because when I started, it was around $49 per house call and now it's close to a $100. It's getting higher and higher every year. It's almost getting to the point where it may not be worthwhile having the insurance. Nevertheless, the service is good and I've had really good luck with them.

First American Home Warranty makes policy cancellation so difficult that it seems that they increase revenue by strong-arming clients into continuing policies they no longer want. They have now failed to cancel my policy after requests have been made both in writing and by phone. I have requested policy cancellation via phone at least five times over several years and have been told each time by rude call center personnel that cancellation must be in writing. I was told during the first call that cancellation could be made via e-mail. Each representative told me that they did not have that e-mail address and would not go look it up. The e-mail address is not listed anywhere on their website. The last representative finally gave me the e-mail address.
I then made a formal request to cancel my policy. I received a computer generated confirmation that the request was received, but the policy has not been cancelled and I have received no further communication from First American. I made a second request in writing and have also not received a response from First American. They have been billing my credit card for several years during this debacle and threaten to send you to collections if you don't pay for the policy that they are refusing to cancel while justifying it by claiming that your request was somehow not made in an acceptable manner (no acceptable manner seems to exist). To me, this borders on fraud.
Additionally, First American sent a letter SIX MONTHS after a service call was placed, claiming that I had not paid the $65 co-payment. I confirmed via phone twice with the contractor that they have been paid. First American continued to claim that I did not pay the $65 and threatened to report me to the credit bureaus.
Being a VERY busy professional person, it was not worth my time to further dispute the issue, so I double paid. The $65 call now cost me $130. This also seems like a company that is gaining revenue in a crooked manner by capitalizing on the knowledge that consumers only have so much time to fight with them. This issue started as an honest mistake by the contractor, however First American is so bureaucratic and has such awful customer service that they will make no real attempt to correct a problem once it occurs. I would highly recommend using a different company for your home warranty needs-- one that actually has empowered customer service agents with whom you can communicate.

I decided to get one because I wanted insurance on the appliances. It's hard to work on stuff by yourself nowadays. I call when I submit claims but they also have the online option. I was on hold for a while but that's understandable and whoever I talked to, they were courteous and professional. One claim was during Christmas day, my wife was cooking, had the oven going and the house was a little warm but it wasn't too bad. I turned my air conditioner on and it wasn't working. I called them but the contractor they had never called me back and they weren't aware of it. Luckily, it wasn't in the middle of summer with 100 degrees outside.
So I ended up calling back and they sent somebody else. The guy that came out here that time was great. He arrived on the same day, looked it over to diagnose the problem and he had the part and got it working the next day. It was a good experience and it was convenient because he lives a few miles down the road from me. So it all turned out good. The biggest problem that I have with First American is the type of people that they hire to do the work. They’re sometimes not very dependable. The first one that I got, I had to have my furnace replaced. They worked on it off and on for two weeks and still had to finally get somebody else to finish it up. They were respectable but they weren’t knowledgeable about what they were doing or they were too busy. My apartment has not been fixed and it's taking two weeks to do it, which is not very good. Then when you call the technicians to tell them that they need to get back out here, they'll say “We’ll be there at a certain time,” and they may show up the next day.
Everything else has been fine, other than not having competent people that you can depend on to do what they’re supposed to do. I would recommend First American to anybody, but they need to critique their workers. Also, they tend to listen to you, but it’s awfully hard to get a hold of them sometimes. Submitting a claim with First American is pretty easy. I usually talk to a machine but talking with their claims representatives has been positive. I just go with it on the phone and they give their reply after you've told them what the problem is. Then they would address the claim to the appropriate contractor. Then that person calls you and then they come out and hopefully fix it. The last claim that we put in was from a month ago and it was a bad experience. The faucet in the laundry room wasn’t working. The guy that came over claimed to be a plumber. I didn’t believe him. When the fellow doesn't have the right wrench and I have to go look for my toolbox to find it, you begin wondering. He said that the faucet is no good and we have to get a new one. We wanted a faucet that swivels and at a certain height so that we could put a bowl underneath and wash it in our laundry sink.
A week later, he called me back and said that the company would only pay for the lowest grade, builder’s grade faucet for a laundry room. I offered to buy the faucet myself and let him install it and he agreed. Then First American called and they won’t pay for the upgrade. Although I can't imagine it being that much more expensive even though I was willing to pay the difference of what they allow on the faucet and what I was willing to pay for. I said to them, "Now, you have someone come out and to do it." They said, "No, we don't pay that one. We'll just give you a thousand and we're done with that claim.” So, I got another technician to install it at my expense.
Most of the claims come through and with a little pressure, they’re able to get the job done. Generally, we don’t have that many things that are much of an upgrade. This one happened to be a little above upgrade. I've had them for 12 years now and extend it each time it was time to renew. However, I'm going to be very careful about renewing next time.

Our realtor booked our First American home warranty when we bought our house three years ago. Submitting a claim has been nothing short of great. I submitted claims twice over the phone and their representatives are a 10 out of 10. That's why I've renewed for two years in a row.

Our First American home warranty came with the house we bought in Abilene, Texas and we had a lot of success with it. We were very dissatisfied with another home warranty company which came with our house here in Liberty Hill. We researched on what our copay is and what the home warranty will cover, especially on air conditioning. First American covers freon whereas a lot of other home warranty providers do not. So, we switched to First American this year. We've only had to do one claim and that was for garbage disposal. The technician company that came to my home was called Country Boys Plumbing. The guy showed up with a new unit and I paid him the $65 and everything was good. Since the repair, we've had no problem. I would recommend First American.

We bought the house and my daughter, who's a realtor, insisted we buy homeowners warranty and we did that. We're very pleased with the first year we had with First American so, I renewed it again this year. I hope I'll keep on renewing it because it's much easier than me trying to fix things myself. Usually, for any problem I have, I submit claims by phone. The only problem I've had is when we had a clogged up line with our built-in vacuum system. The first people they've recommended to come out does electrical repair for motors. So when I called these guys, they said they're not the ones who should be coming out and they don't do things like that. And, First American didn't have anyone.
Then, I did some calling and found someone locally and I got a hold of them. I called back First American and told them about it and they said to have the service company come out. It was all taken care of and they did a great job of taking care of the problem. I've been very pleased. Sometimes you have to wait a week to get someone to come out but the people that do the work are sometimes pretty busy, too. You can't expect them to be out the next day. But they did as well as they can and those that they've set out, they're very professional.

The seller bought the warranty when I paid for the home. I had good luck the first time I called the company and had quick resolution. The problem is the 30 year old Whirlpool tub I called about in Dec 2016. The timer doesn't work and there is a leak. I have had a plumber come out and he contacted the manufacturer. The parts to repair this tub are no longer made. The manufacturer and the plumber have said that it would be unsafe to try to retrofit the tub with new plumbing and mechanics as suggested by the warranty company. I have explained this to the 3rd representative and she closed my service request because they won't replace the tub. I understand that replacing the tub is not their cost but they should at least pay a portion of the cost for parts and labor.
I opened a new service request saying that this was not completed to my satisfaction or even an attempt at working this out. This is the last email I received. "Good afternoon, Unfortunately we will not cover a portion or the entire replacement of the tub. We will not continue with the claim at this point since it has been determine the entire tub needs to be replace. We will only reimburse for the tech's diagnose. You can submit that invoice for reimbursement. Thank you."

The part (the pumper) that the tech put in doesn't seem to be that good of a model. The horsepower on it is the same as with what we had, but it makes a lot of noise. He got the job done, but we feel like a better product would do the job, as well as make less noise. Other than that, my experience with First American was pretty good, easy and simple. I still recommend them.

We worked with Old Republic and weren’t really happy with their service. So we talked to a First American rep and decided to give them a try. Their reps are friendly and are able to answer questions the best they can. Submitting a claim online is very easy, simply select what's needed to be done and roughly what the problem is. After the appointment is set up, I hear from the technicians within 12 hours so that's pretty quick and they are very courteous.
The most recent claim we had was for our washing machine. I had told the technicians that I noticed a rattling sound in the high spin of the washing machine. They came and they tried to recreate that and were unable to get the machine to give enough high spin so they ordered a new motor control board and then we waited for a couple of weeks. We had to leave work to meet another technician to install that board. Still unable to get it into high-speed spin so they ordered the main control board. The same process was repeated but it still didn’t fix the problem.
Then they sent another tech out but he could not find any problem at all so they switched companies and sent them out. They were on call number four now. The tech said the cause could be the wire harness and they were going to replace it. The same process of waiting for the part to be delivered then setting up a fifth appointment and we’re about two months into this. They came out and said they couldn't get it to go into high spin. So they were just about to order a new motor when I talked to the claims rep, Irene and asked how much we are going to spend and we haven’t even gotten to the main problem I called in about because we can’t recreate it.
At that point in time, they‘d spent over $1,000 on parts. There were some issues with the fact that they’d switched vendors and they hadn’t combined the totals. So one vendor had ordered the motor control board and the main control board. The other group ordered the wiring harness. I told them they are well more than what the machine’s value is. We ended up purchasing another machine ourselves then eventually have them cover the check to reimburse us. It took a lot of time away from work for multiple services and at some point in time, they should have cut bait really well before the fifth service call. That is the first frustrating experience we’ve had with First American. But we’ve been very happy with the service. They’ve always been very responsive, easy to work with and they've been efficient so we’ll continue to use them.

My wife wanted to get a home warranty to add security, so we had American Home Shield before and then we decided to try First American out. They started out really well, and I'm satisfied. I prefer calling them and placing a claim. The claim process is very easy, and they get in touch with me within 24-hours. Then they come and work depending on their schedule. Their representatives are friendly but they probably need to be more knowledgeable. They will tell me what is not covered, but if I ask them a little more in detail, then they don't know. The technicians do good work, and on my air conditioning system claim, I had a really good experience.
The only thing I have not been happy about is when the garage door technician came, he told me in a funny language that I need to pay a certain amount of money to add the hardware. And later on, I realized that the problem is that the people at First American need to be knowledgeable enough to tell me in detail why they are charging that. They just told me that it is a transfer fee, but then I figured out what it was. What happened was my garage door has two springs. One spring on the left side and another on the right side, and the technician who came converted it to one spring. So, they charged me $160 for conversion. If they told me upfront that he'd be doing a spring conversion, then I would have told them to find a technician who will give me the two-spring solution so I don't have to pay for the conversion. Other than that, everything is fine.

My claim was initiated on February 21st, and I am still trying to get an electrician assigned to my claim that will actually call me back and schedule an appointment. You know that part on their website where First American says you will be contacted by the assigned contractor in 48 hours? Not in my case. After repeated calls and email from me to the contractor without any reply, I reached out again to First American. They continually ask me to "wait four more hours and we will contact you" each time I call them, to try to get this resolved. They have never returned my call or sent me the email as promised.
Each day I call back in on their customer service line, today it has been twice, and still they have not figured out how to resolve this problem. It appears they only have one electrician under contract in my city of 80,000+ people. When I asked if I could use my own electrician, they said yes, but the dollar amount limit for diagnosis was extremely low. I don't know of a single electrician who would come out for that amount. So, in theory, these home warranty policies might look good. In reality, the home sellers paid for a service that I am not able to use. Sounds a little like theft to me to collect money for something they can't deliver.

The last technician who came out was excellent and I gave him an outstanding rating. He diagnosed the problem, told me he had to order the part, and that he'd be back within 48 hours. He returned in 24 hours and fixed the problem. He also discovered something wrong with the door that I hadn't even noticed and so he did some preventive work for me by doing the repair. I had their top of the line policy that covered more than anyone would need. Their customer care people will also tell one thing one time and the other time you call.
Even after putting my cancellation, they charged my credit card and continued service till the end of next month. I was asked what my problem was and my location as well to confirm that the provider would be nearby. In one case, the claims rep was having trouble finding someone to service a particular appliance. So she went out of her way to find someone. They had to come from Portland, so she coordinated that.
So, they got back to me and found someone to service my appliance quickly and I was very pleased. The technicians have been great, especially the guy that came to replace my water heater. He came out, diagnosed the problem, called to see if he could get the part. He left then came right back. He was done in a matter of hours. I asked First American if they would help to cover this cost when my house catches on fire, and they responded that they are only responsible for parts covered by the contract. In the meantime I had 2 inches of water in my basement. There was carpet and paneling down there that was going to be damaged with the water just sitting there. I was able to contact a local company to pump the water out of the basement to minimize the damage. Now First American says they will not pay for the water remediation. That I should of left it for 3 days and then MAYBE their plumber would of taken care of it. If your policy do not specifically state what is covered, then it is excluded. We told First American what was going on and they said they had no record that Appliance Guru has asked them to order that circuit board or that they have ordered the circuit board themselves; therefore, we wasted time. Either the boss at Appliance Guru dropped the ball completely or the technician never told him. I have no idea what caused the delay.
So we got a circuit board out to Appliance Guru and they scheduled an appointment, they came out and replaced the circuit board. The technician put it in then he turned the microwave on but it wouldn't work. It made a pop and then not even the clock would work. It seemed that whatever was originally wrong caused the first circuit board to go bad. But whenever they replaced the circuit board that didn't fix what was wrong. The technician went back and he said, "I'll report all this to the boss and we'll take care of it. We'll decide what the next best thing to do is."
First American then called me and said, "We've talked to Appliance Guru and we want to confirm that your problem was taken care of." I said, "If they told you the problem was taken care of, they lied to you because it still wasn't. More things are now wrong with the microwave than we started with the claim." I told First American that the technicians from Appliance Guru are incompetent and I never want them to be scheduled for our work again. I told them that one guy said, "We may have to replace the whole unit," but he was just the technician. Then First American told me that they'll send my complaint to First American's purchasing department and let them make the decision. They will replace my microwave next week.

Submitting a claim with First American Home was very easy and smooth. Jimmy the contractor is fabulous. Every bit of interaction with him has been A+. He came when he said he was going to come. He contacted me by text message which was excellent for me and I responded. He’s always pleasant and he did exactly what he said he was going to do, and also did it expeditiously. I’ve never had anything but an excellent experience. The quality of work is one hundred percent great. I’ve recommended this company to everybody that I can think of. I mention it all the time and tell everybody they need to get one of these.

Our First American warranty was given to us at closing when we purchased our home at no cost for a full year. We have submitted four claims and everything was good except for the last one which was in December. Our water heater went out so we had no hot water and when I called, the company they referred us to told us it would be five days before someone would come out. We couldn't do without hot water for that long so we cancelled the claim and just did it on our own. I understand when there are things that aren't emergencies that we have to wait but for something like heating, air conditioning or hot water, First American should have companies that are available 24/7. So that was a little disconcerting. But other than that, the technicians who came for our other claims have done excellent work for us. We've had great experience with them and the First American representatives. And we will renew even though we had that one bad experience.

We were living in our other house and there was an issue that happened. And we couldn’t find that same insurance company that we had. Then a friend said that she really like First American so we went with them. Things are always very smooth with them. The people that I've spoken with are professional and they try to get back to me in a timely manner. They’re usually quite informative and detailed as to what the process is step by step, and it always lines up exactly as they said. They always send people who are clearly qualified for what they’re doing in the area.
We’ve always been very pleased with the technicians that come out and they’ve been friendly. We like the quality of work and I’m always very impressed with what we get. They know what they’re talking about and there's no need to send somebody else to follow up for them to do something. It's money well spent and we don’t feel like money’s being wasted.
The company that I used last time for the plumbing claim I had did not come out as soon as First American had said. But it was over the holidays, so I understand some things get backed up at times. When they came out, they were a very professional company as well. Everything went smoothly. It’s always been a wonderful experience and we usually tell our family and friends when they have issues to get homeowners insurance to go with First American because we always have luck with them.

When I called First American, they explained everything and it sounded like a good opportunity. However, when I submitted a claim for the pool equipment, I spent a lot of time on the phone waiting. But the technicians that came were nice. It took a lot to get the job done but they did it.

They will never call you back when they say they will. The earliest they can schedule contractors for you is 4 days after you call, even if you have an emergency. I managed to find my own contractor to come within 2 hours of calling. Not sure why FAHW wasn't able to do the same after 48 hours of back and forth with them. First American is incompetent, dishonest, and inexperienced. Don't waste your time or money on these ** amateurs.

Our electrical outlet wasn’t working properly in the house. I submitted a claim to First American and it has been a good experience. I called and they sent out a certified repair service. The technician that came out was very satisfactory.
