First American was helpful. Even though we had to go back and forth a couple of times on some details it’s what I expected from the insurance claims. We’re able to use a technician that we want to use locally because of the timeframe and the job and everything went well.

This is a TERRIBLE company. I had an American Home Shield warranty for years. I moved to another state and as part of the close received a First American Home Warranty. I filed a claim for my dishwasher and the contracting company they assigned it to came by 2 days later. The guy asked me for the user's guide so he can better understand how the dishwasher should work. After looking at his phone for 5 mins, decided they needed to order a part and it would take 3 weeks to get in. 6 weeks later, I heard nothing from either the contractor or First American. I called several times and asked that they assign it to someone else.
During the 6th week after 5 calls, someone, Yvonne **, from first American finally called back and told me they just placed an order for the part and when it comes in, the contractor will come out to put it in. That can be another 1, 2 or even 6 weeks. My other option is to pay for a part that I never received and then I would have to buy a new dishwasher to keep my warranty which was paid for a year. And if the contractor destroys my floors because they are incompetent, the warranty company is not in any way responsible. I never had an issue with my old warranty company but First American is the WORST company I've ever had to deal with. Their main purpose is to get consumer's money while not providing any service.

First Repairman out stated he would order part... never did. Paid a second repairman to look at washer again, he couldn't fix machine. He filed for new washer, but we still do not have washer after waiting over week. All indications are it will be a whole week longer to finally get washer. They are stating they will replace with smaller capacity and not exact machine. This is not what the commercials advertise. They advertise quick results. It will be a month before washer finally gets replaced. Very unhappy dissatisfied customer.

We know from past experience that if you got to pay out of pocket for things that go wrong, it can be a huge expense. The reviews for First American stated that their response time was quick and the results were satisfactory. We signed up and for the most part, the claims process is pretty quick. We’ve had about half a dozen claims over the years, and usually they get back to it within a day or two, with a person who's going to come take a look, and usually the things would be fixed within a couple of weeks. We used to call and then speak with them directly, and then they developed that phone interaction system. When we call on the phone, everything’s responsive. They’ve been pretty nice, too.
We had one issue with my refrigerator. It was a little hectic at first, because they said they couldn't find the part, so we had to find it. Ultimately, they located it and everything got settled. The technicians have all been great, except when we first got it nine years ago. We had a guy come over, and we came to find out he was overcharging for what he was doing, so he lost his contract with First American.
The last time, we had a guy come and work on our washer. We have a stackable washer dryer with the dryer being on top, and his boss told him that he had to remove the dryer to work on the washer. They sent a solo technician, and then he was asking my husband to help him move the dryer off the washer. They should have sent two people if that was the case. The homeowner should not be involved in lifting. Other than that, everything’s been good. It’s been worthwhile to be sure because things go amiss that you never think would happen. We recommended First American to our friends living in Florida, and they signed up for it as well based on what we had to say.

Submitting a claim with First American has been an easy process. Just call the number, tell them what the problem is and they take down the information. The reps have been professional, and whoever they have on contract, gets back in touch with us and set the times and the date. A group of technicians seemed to come more often than not because we seem to have more plumbing issues than anything else and they’re always professional. They seemed to be pretty quick at what they’re at and about. I’m very satisfied and I have recommended First American.

My friend said First American was pretty good with them, so I assumed they would be the same with me. And they have been so far. I submit my claims over the phone and my interactions with their reps have been decent. The technician who came the first time I had a problem did a very good job. The second time I contacted them though, they didn't cover the problem I had.

I have been using them for 5 years now. For the first 4 years I had the first class upgrade. This year though I didn't go for the first class upgrade. So when I put in a request in September I didn’t expect to be working without a microwave and taking time off work and scheduling and rescheduling appointments for more than 2 months now. No one calls you to inform you about any changes, the vendors are really mean, and incompetitive because they come and check and don’t provide the correct diagnosis.
After which we ordered the new machine which is not even close to the price of the original. I was then assigned the same contractor to do the installation. After waiting and waiting for a call I finally called Active Appliances and they said they don’t do installation. Then I called FAHW and informed them and they didn’t check this ahead of time. SO they then asked me to call them the next day. I called again the next day and they assigned another contractor. This contractor has scheduled 2 appointments and not showed up to either. Their customer service sucks too. So all in all I’d say a bad company to work with. My first bad experience with them was when they sent us a contractor for a plumbing issue and they guy put a clamp on a leak and was going to leave, till I raised heaven and hell and complained and complained for him to do his job right.
Updated on 11/16/2017: The person who finally showed up to fix the microwave then tells me that it won’t fit in the space I have. When they asked me to check if it would fit I measured it out but how was I supposed to know if the new brackets of a machine I have never seen before is supposed to fit or not in the space given? I measured the space the microwave would take and it is supposed to fit in the space I have and now the person says I need to get a tile cutter out to cut out the tile to fit my microwave. PATHETIC service. I hope people realize that it’s useless to hire such incompetent people.

The gas company told us that we had a leak so we submitted a claim on 11/1/17. They told us that they couldn't get someone to come out for a week. We waited an entire week having no hot water and no heat. My husband also had to take off from work to wait. Well, they sent the wrong type of company. We called back immediately and they scheduled another company to come out. He took off from work again and the guy said he didn't bring the right equipment and he had to come back the next day. The next day he called and said he couldn't come. The day after that he came and said that there was no leak. The gas company came back out and said that there was a leak. We called First American back and we've gotten the run around ever since. We have 5 children and I'm pregnant. Our house is freezing and it's extremely inconvenient to boil water for 7 people to take baths every day.
This stress has caused me to have issues with my blood pressure. In all of my pregnancies, I've never had an issue with blood pressure. They do not care at all. Each time we call, they say someone will call us back but no one does. I called today and spoke with several people. I requested a supervisor and waited on hold for 20 minutes only for the supervisor to tell me that my case was escalated and even he could not touch it. Apparently, I can only speak to ONE person in the company. Alexandra ** who does not call us back. And even though this "supervisor" claims not to be able to access my file, he tried to get me to fix it myself and get reimbursed $150 and pay the rest out of pocket.
EVERY employee that we've spoken with has tried to get us to do this! Why would I ever consider paying out of pocket for something that is covered under my warranty? I would NEVER use this company again. I plan to write a review every place I can find to warn people about this company. I've already contacted the BBB and the next stop is the news. After all the other reviews that I've read, I know this is their practice. Anything to avoid paying a claim. They can try to get out of this all they want, but now my goal in life is so make sure everyone knows how horrible this company is.
We appreciate your feedback and look forward to being able to address your concerns directly with you.

I had American Home Shield and they really pissed me off. It so happened that First American had sent me a letter about a week earlier so I went with them. They did a pretty good job on my claim though there was a little bit of confusion. When I called in my request, they told me that they’d be in touch with me in 48 hours. 48 hours went by and I called and they told me it generally takes at least 72 hours. 72 hours went by and they still haven’t been touch with me and it was not a weekend. So I called again. They said they should be getting in touch with me shortly. They put me on hold and I tried to call them on the phone. And about the time I hung up with them, they called and set up an appointment for the next day.
The man come out and did a reasonable job. He double checked to make sure I didn’t have a dead short on my wire and assured me that I didn’t. He also told me that one of the problems I had was a loose connection on a light fixture and he was not able to fix it because they only come to the junction box. They don’t work on the light fixture itself. But he was respectful and I paid him $75. As long as they do a good job, I’m happy.

These creeps have left me with no functioning hot water heater for nearly a week now! The "technician" they sent out told us that having to crank the thermostat all the way to high and the pilot light self extinguishing, and having to be manually relit more than 20 times in 3 days is "normal behavior". In any residential installation, if you set the thermostat to maximum, it can cause scalding and burns, our water heater set at max produces water at 101 degrees, but then immediately extinguishes the pilot light!
First American uses low budget unskilled contractors who have no clue what they are doing. We paid for a "first class upgrade" on our home warranty, the most expensive home warranty they sell... And we've gotten NOTHING from it. I have a severe medical condition that requires hydrotherapy for pain control, I have been left with no hot water for DAYS and DAYS, and when you call First American, you only ever get a call center person who reads a script and tells you the same answers over and over, they never can think outside the box or answer a question that isn't on their script. Avoid First American Home Warranty at all costs, they are criminals and should be exposed for the frauds that they are!

I had another plan and wasn’t happy with it so I reached out via social media and a realtor friend told me about First American. She thought it was the best plan out there so I went with it. I like that First American Home Warranty is slightly less expensive. I’ve only had it used once and everything went well. It was very easy submitting a claim. I did it online. The technicians were great, too. They were very respectful and showed up on time. They handled the job very quickly and they didn’t mind me asking a few questions.

This is my second year since I have been using the First American Home Warranty. In July 2017 we requested for maintenance of the Air Conditioning and they sent someone to check. The guy told us he couldn't fix it and we need to call them to get an Electrician. Having no AC in the middle of summer is so hard and we called them and told them what the guy told us. They sent other technicians and the technicians easily fixed the issue. We paid the call fee. But after that I have been receiving calls and letters saying I am delinquent in my call fee payment. At the beginning I thought it was an error until I received a letter from a collection agency. Then I called them on 11/11/2017 and the lady told me it was two orders and I paid just for one.
I tried to explain to her and she was so tired of me even before I said anything. I was so embarrassed and disappointed. She didn't want to listen to me and I asked if I can talk to someone. She said 'since you are not going away I will transfer you to someone'. I was waiting for 40 minutes and she hanged the phone. I was disappointed because of two things. First, I was asked to pay twice for just one service; second the way the lady treated me was so embarrassing. If they have the call record they can check. They fixed everything very good and I don't have any complaint on their technicians, but the customer service need to be checked.

I placed a call on Friday at noon after I realized that my furnace was not working properly. I have called them back several times and they are still looking for someone to come and fix it. This is now Monday night and I still don't have a serviceman scheduled. They said that they have expedited my order but I will have to call them back to see what is going on as they can not make outbound calls. So I am cold, not happy and don't understand what is going on. I really hope my pipes don't freeze or I will have even a bigger problem.

My wife and I have been using First American Home Warranty for the past 10 months, knowing that our furnace was 35 years old and our water heater was 10 years old. When both finally went out in the middle of October, we called First American to make our claims. First American then contacted the contractors, of which are given 24 hours to call. After not hearing from the water heater company for 24 hours, we decided to call them. We played phone tag for about 3 days. Finally when someone did come over, the one-person company told us that he could not do it because we had a crawl space and it required a two man job. SO WHY DID FIRST AMERICAN SEND SOMEONE out to our house that could NOT do the job? Well, long story short, we still paid the guy $65 and later $75 that was taken out our cash-out for about 15 minutes of work. The guy came out to our house knowing he could not do the job and was out to make a quick buck.
So another water heater company was then contracted (Crown Plumbing in Colorado) and they sent a bid to First American for $2900 (natural gas) and $3900 (tankless), of which First American was only going to give around $515 to (which means thousands out of our pocket!). So we just decided to get a cash out in the amount of $440 which barely covered the water heater and had a neighbor install it. Trying to get the cash out from First American was a long process since every time we called, the cash-out amount was different (originally it was $515 then it went down to $490 then $440 b/c of the $75 diagnostic fee to the first water heater company that came out). With the furnace company, it took them 1.5 months to complete the project which was a very long time frame.
Long story short, First American was a very difficult company to work with because their contractors were not capable of doing the job. Also, First American did a poor job of communicating because the amount they said they were paying the contractors was different than what the contractor said. First American was supposed to give the furnace people $1050, but in turn, only gave them $590 and would not show me the bid because it was between "First American and the contractor."

I was looking for a different home warranty and my realtor recommended First American so I got them. I just call their 1-800 number when submitting a claim and I give them my information on what the claim was about. It’s simple and very easy for me. The technician who came was cordial and business-like. He was punctual and took care of the problem. I don’t have a leak anymore and I’m very satisfied with them up to this point.

The last time I put in a claim, it was the vendor that was the problem. First American ended up contacting them, and then turned around and gave me a number to contact if they don’t show up. I did this and the contractor said I was still scheduled and he was still on his way. Then he called me up real late at night after I waited all day long and had been out of work, and he told me that he had a bad day so he wouldn't be able to make it that night. I told him it was a hell of a thing to be telling me that late at night, especially when I just put over $1000 dollars’ worth of groceries in the refrigerator that he was supposed to be fixing.
But for the most part, the ones that I’ve had have been pleasant. They have the proper uniforms on and they’ve always been clean. They tell me everything they’re doing and what they’ve got going. I’ve never had to call them back out to redo anything. There were a couple of times that there was a couple of people whom I prefer not to deal with anymore as far as personal goes, but overall, the company’s been really good to me. That’s why I’ve kept them for over 20 years and I have definitely recommended them in the past. I have a couple of my friends who had just bought homes. I told them they needed to look into a home warranty and when they asked, I told them who I’ve got and that I’ve always had good luck with First American.
My only problem with First American is my premium is going up every year. Also the fee that I have to pay for when the vendors come out is steadily jumping. If my premiums go up, my initial fees shouldn’t have to go up. I can understand the per diem part of it because as the world turns, things go up. It’s not like I’ve got a contract saying that this is a definite thing, but mine started out at $30 dollars initial pay, and now it’s up to $75 dollars. A lot of people don’t have $75 dollars in their pocket. When I had somebody come out to fix my washing machine, he charged me $75 dollars. I found out it’s not but a $10 dollar part, so if I had done the work myself it would have been $10 bucks.

We have had American Warranty for 6 years using them for two properties... and while the peace of mind was enjoyed most of the time, it was misplaced. For fixtures, they want to replace mid to high grade faucets with non-matching, inferior quality. Call line is absolutely horrible - rude and unhelpful, so you use online where they take your money, and then later advise AFTER the contractor showed up... "Oh, that is not covered." You may ask how you can request help online, get it and then find out they won't cover something - simple... You select "other" in the pull-down menu and type in the description of service and they don't read it... they just send someone out and then bill you the entire amount.
They did fine with a hot water heater. POOR on microwave fix, refrigerator fix, and faucet fixes. As an example, our bathroom tub faucet breaks. We ask for service. Plumbing company were responsive. They needed to order the part. We wait. Plumbing guy calls and says that they can replace but with chrome (we have brushed nickel). That dog is not going to hunt! He agrees and orders new part. We wait weeks. Then we call and are told Home Warranty canceled. What? They insist on replacing with a mismatched chrome piece that is poor grade.
Refrigerator water dispenser is broken. We call and they send out SEARS who can't make it for 3 weeks. They come out and order a part. We rebook to return 18 days later. They call the day off and say they have to cancel and next appt is 14 days later. They call and cancel then too. Then we call American to complain about service. They look into the files and then says the dispenser is not covered, so "too bad." We asked why would we be going through this for over a month. Person on phone says "When you select 'Other' and add the description, we don't read the description." We are now out of pocket for the service. We paid $95 in addition to the regular payments. It is truly a shell game. It is a racket. The good thing about them is over time you will be introduced to their contractors who will do the work cheaper, easier and with better service than American Warranty. Maybe use them for the short term but get in and then do yourself a favor, GET OUT!

It’s been one year since we bought the house but we didn’t move into it until January. We’ve submitted a few claims which were easy to do. I call them and tell them the issue. One time, it was after hours and they said they wouldn’t be able to assign the claim until the morning when the office is opened since it was plumbing related. Usually, the contractor would respond back and then set up a time within 24-48 hours. We had to replace our hot water heater and had we not had the warranty provided by the previous owners, it would have been very expensive for us to do. It’s like a lifespan and it broke. They said it wasn’t worth fixing and made more sense to replace it.
We renewed our contract with them for another year. In terms of the renewal process, they could have made things a bit easier to understand since the plan that we had is different from the plans that we could renew for and there wasn’t an explanation as to why. The name and its coverage is something different. We can’t renew that plan, we have to buy a different one. They could have been more helpful had they explained that in the documentation that they provided. But other than that, I recommended First American to my family recently.

The realtor I was using has a warranty through First American as well so she recommended them. I submitted a claim online at midnight because the hot water heater had gone off. It didn’t take two minutes to file and by 8:00am the next morning, a local representative contacted me and had the repair set up that day. It was an easy and very efficient process. The reps were very nice. The technician reached out and got it all completed that day. He also did a follow-up to make sure that everything was fine. In addition, if I ever needed anything, I definitely feel comfortable reaching out to them solely if it was something that my warranty doesn’t cover. Our real estate agent bought us First American's first-year policy when we bought our home and I renewed it last August before it expired. And I'm glad I did that because my vacuum system went out and that was a $450 bill. Although the issue wasn't critical, the mechanic still came out within a couple of days and repaired it. He was very cordial and he told me the motor was burned out. Coincidentally, the company that First American worked with is a representative of the manufacturer of my vacuum cleaner so the mechanic had the motor in his truck. That was easy 'cause I didn't have to order it. He replaced the motor, cleaned things up and did a little extra.
I had another incident last year too with the furnace and it wasn't that big of a deal, but it was covered under the policy. After that, I moved into the house and there was some minor malfunction where there was a loose wire somewhere and the technician just tightened it up so that was easy. First American got the work done and it's been all good. We live in Bend, Oregon which is not in a major metropolitan area and not a heavily populated area, but First American seems to have covered well their connections with the right contractors so they get the job done. I've recommended them to a friend and he bought the policy a month.

I initiated a service request, but the contractor provided could not perform the work in a timely manner. I first called in to get a quicker turn time with another contractor, or use an outside vendor. It took 45 min before reaching someone. The representative first seemed very helpful and promised she would be following up with me in about 30-45 minutes. I never received a callback and reached out again. After another 30 min wait the 2nd representative said he couldn't do anything to help and I must have gotten misinformation from the last person. I asked if there were other options or a manager to speak with to help as the 1st rep told me we would be doing when she called me back, but instead he just repeated there was nothing to do and no one he could transfer me to.
Having to wait 5 calendar days for someone to come out to the home to work on repairs that are immediate are bad enough, but having to spend hours on the phone to get little to know help from customer service only makes it worse. I work in real estate and will not purchase myself or refer any clients to use AHW again.

I had to rent a fridge for a month while I was waiting 43 days for mine to be fixed and when I asked about reimbursement they told me no because I was supposed to get an authorization first. I guess not having a fridge is totally acceptable even though I called the company daily to ask what my status of a contractor was.
Fast forward to today 11/9/2017 and my fridge is still broke because the contractor couldn't leave a message like a professional. I suggest you spend your money elsewhere. I'm just waiting for this contract to expire so I can go to Home Warranty of America like I have for my other houses. I don't know who they pick for their contractors but they're not professionals at all. One of the contractors stopped returning phone calls to me and to the company but when my fridge broke again they tried to refer me to him again. When my water heater went out the guy they sent was extremely rude but this won't change the way this company does business. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND FIND A BETTER WARRANTY COMPANY!
We appreciate your feedback and look forward to being able to address your concerns directly with you.

I bought a house and the previous owner had First American. He said, “It’s paid for, and it’s good for so many more months, and you’re welcome to it.” So I took it and I’ve been with First American for about 17 years and I never had any problem with them at all. They’ve always been very good, very quick and had proper people to come to the house. I usually submit my claim over the phone. They would ask me what I needed and how I wanted it to be done. And they would give me my claim number. They’d also give me the name and telephone number of the person that should be contacted.
The last claim that I had was for the garage door, and the contractor came very quickly and told me what was wrong with it, what would take to fix it and what he was able to do and what he could not do. The contractors have been good except for one and I talked to them about it and they refunded my money from him. In 17 years, that’s pretty good to have just one bad experience. They’re very helpful and professional.

We've been using First American since we bought the house, and I've made three claims in those five years. They were all good. I was there for my first claim and I had no problem. For the other one, my son was at home and he took care of everything. So, I just called them to be there and paid whatever we had to pay. Everything went very smoothly. First American is a good company to depend on.

First American is very reliable and we’ve kept them for 18 years now. It's fairly easy to submit a claim with them. We do a simple phone call usually and the representatives are very nice and helpful. The technicians are mostly helpful as well. I don't think we had a bad one who came. The only thing is that their rate goes up. When we first got the warranty, it was either $35 or $50. Now, it’s nearly double. But we still think it’s a fair bargain. Our daughter has a home warranty from another company, and it’s right about the same thing. But she's had a few complaints with hers and it was taking them more than a week to get out there, while the longest we’ve ever had to wait with First American is about 48 hours or so.

First American came as the warranty given to us to pay for with our home purchase. When I submitted a claim online, it was easy except for the part where they couldn't get anyone out to fix the problem for three weeks. So I called to ask about it and they checked if they could find someone sooner. They said they couldn't but they told me I could try finding someone and they would reimburse me. I had to talk to them about that process because I had to pay for it and get reimbursed but it worked out really well and I was pleasantly surprised. The only thing that bothers me is that there's a toilet that's super old and is not even up to the low flush standard but First American would do whatever they could to fix it instead of replacing it. That may be part of the warranty company because they don't want to pay the prices but it would be nice if they replaced that old thing instead. Other than that, the warranty has a reasonable coverage.

We've had a couple of claims for the past five years and First American was good. They're quick to respond and any issues have all been mitigated as we filed a claim. However, it wasn't clear that refrigerators are not appliances in the home whenever I signed up for the home warranty program. In my mind, they're an appliance because of the appliance section when buying a refrigerator, but it wasn't clear that they're not covered. But it eventually got cleared up.
But we weren't very satisfied with how the technicians approached the repair for our AC unit. It had overflowed because there was not an overflow switch installed initially on the pan of the air conditioner. When the water was collecting in the pan, the auto shut-off switch was not there to engage and turn off the air conditioner, and the pipe was plugged, that would drain the water that was there. We had water damage in the house and different secondary issues. But when they came out to fix the AC issue, it was more of a patch type situation than a fix. And whenever we got over that hurdle, there was a discrepancy in the pricing or how much the switch should be and the installation of the switch versus what it could be if we did it ourselves. So we got that fixed. I'm generally satisfied with the experience and I'll continue using First American for the time being.

Over the course of years, things would break down and I’d have to go out and get one or have it repaired. Sometimes, the repair costs would be just as much as having to buy one. I wanted to find a service that will allow me to keep my appliances longer than most and allow me to not incur unexpected large expenses. I looked into acquiring a home warranty and the only company I’ve heard of was American Home Shield but I just read too many bad reviews on them.
Then I found First American Home Warranty through reading some of the comments people had said about them. They have to go out and hire contractors to service all these things so they must do a good job in obtaining reputable companies that come out and service the appliances. Submitting a claim is very easy but it would be even faster if I were to use their website. I've gone out on their website recently and it looked very user-friendly but I love to speak to people so I call. They always follow up wherein they email a service order based on what we talked about.
However, when I call them, they normally tell me that it might be a day or so before the tech can get to me so it might take them a while to work. Having somebody that I could reach and who'd come out right then would improve their service. But I'm extremely happy with them. They have delivered quality service at an extremely affordable price. I’ve recommended two people to them and they’ve bought the service as well.

I have been with First American for a couple of months. My most recent claim was electrical. One of the switch plates blew out, so I couldn't run the washer, dryer, and the lights. Submitting the claim went very quickly. I called in, explained my situation, and everybody was helpful. The gentleman I spoke with said he would take care of it. He gave me the name of an electrical company, who in turn, called me the same day and they were out here a day or two later. The electrician came out and he took quite a while to check everything out and figured out what the problem was and put a new switch plate. I'm pleased with the way they responded and the assistance that they gave me. I look forward to keeping them a while.

We used to be with American Home Shield and we were happy with them. We felt like it was a good thing to have in place in case we have something break or just kind of a safety net. First American home came to us for free for the first year as it was included in the sale of the home, thanks to our Realtor. She really liked First American better than AHS and she said that she had heard from customers that First American covered more things. I've called before but my husband goes online when we submit a claim. He likes to do it via the internet and I like to deal with a person. We had something go wrong with our air conditioner and they came out. They were nice, polite and helpful. Everyone was friendly and professional at First American and they seemed to be pretty efficient as much as possible in getting someone out to resolve issues that we call about .
However, we're looking into other companies again because we're up for renewal and so, even though we like them, we're looking at money because paying insurance on healthcare and lots of other things are a bit expensive. We would like to see if we can beat their price with somebody else. And so we're shopping around not because of any bad experience that we've had with them, but because we need to find ways to save money. Other than that, we've had a positive experience in our time with them and I would definitely recommend them to a friend. In fact, when we found out that First American covered a little bit more, we passed that on to people so that they would know. I feel like that's a benefit going in.

I have always been a believer in home warranties. We had Service America in Florida for about 40 years and we had tremendous success with them. When we had a problem, which was rare since we constantly upgrade appliances, they took care of it a 100%. They have the same replacement policy where if an item is not repairable, it's replaced for the brand new one of comparable quality. We recently moved to California and unfortunately, they do not have anything out in California. I asked my son for recommendation and he said that out of two to choose from, First American would be his choice. And we went with them. They also have a replacement policy and we took advantage of it with one occasion. Every other thing they fixed perfectly. With the wine cooler however, it took longer than I anticipated for them to fulfill the repair. I reported it and they told me that I would be contacted by Active Appliances within 48 hours.
It was the latter part of the 48 hours that they contacted me, which I was a little bit disappointed with. And they set me up for an appointment roughly 10 days away from that telephone call. It wasn’t an emergency repair as it's a wine cooler, but if it were to be a refrigerator I hope they would act a lot faster than they did. So, there were all kinds of expensive wines in there and I have nowhere to put them. And the rep just told me she’s sorry and that’s the best she can do for me. To which I replied, “If you get a cancellation, please put me in… then call me and say, “We move you up to” and tell me within the day". It never happened. And then, a very nice young man came, named Freddie. He was proficient, he was in the company for only about a year but he knew what he was doing. Being knowledgeable about these things myself, I have figured out that it was the thermostat. But I also knew it was not a repair I could do. And so I watch him do it, and it was quite involved.
He was here for roughly 30 minutes and had to dismantle 50% of the wine cooler to get to where the thermostat was and determine for sure it was the thermostat which he did. Then comes the bad news and I expected it immediately that he was not going to have the part on his truck. It was another at least 10 days waiting for that part to come in. I also got a call from First American directly asking me if the repair was completed and I told them very nicely that it wasn’t and they needed to order the part. And the rep said, “We give our contractors 30 days to do a repair. So, I will be back in touch with you if anything is not taken place by 30 days". Truthfully, First American did their part. It was Active Appliances that had the problem getting the part and finding the time to send Freddie here.
After 10 full days or more, I got a call from Active Appliances that the part had come and they scheduled Freddie for the following week to put it in. The window for him to come was 8:00 to 5:00, at 5:30 I called their number but it's already on service for the weekend, and then Freddie showed up very late at 6:00. It took him another 45 minutes to do the repair but he did an excellent job and I thanked him for his hard work to get it done

I’ve been with First American for about six years. It was given to me as an option when I bought my house and the seller covered the first year for me. Four years ago, customer service was not as good. It would take about five days to find out who was going to fix the problem. But it's much better now. For the most recent years, it’s been very effective. They call right away and they take care of the problem within 48 hours. And the reps have been fantastic. Also, 90% of the technicians who have come were nice people. They really care about the problem and they give some follow up. The 10% just want to fix the problem and get out of there. I already know most of the providers, so I just really call the company and tell them what I think about the specific company and sometimes they just directly contact them.
Their customer service is very good. They always call me back and they try to find out what the problem is. I pay $600 a year and a fee of $70 dollars now. There are a lot of small prints about what can be fixed and what cannot, and chunk of money goes to when something big needs to be fixed. So, it should be a little bit more explanatory or easier to read. But overall, it has been great. I’m happy and I will keep First American for now.

It's such a shame to have to write a review like for a home warranty company, because really, you give them money every year, and never use them, so then after 4-5 years, to need them and be disappointed, is a frustrating experience, and makes me feel like I have been throwing my money away for all this time. The staff, whilst they do try to be nice and customer service centric, they fail miserably at solving the problem. They have some terrible local contractors that they use, who really don't know what they are doing.
We are now 8 weeks into a broken dishwasher claim. The pump has been replaced twice (keep in mind that it never worked after originally being "fixed"), then the home warranty company took over ordering the parts from the contractor, and they ordered the wrong part and send the contractor out here with it. There goes another two weeks. Now they are waiting until they get another report in from the contractor before determining whether they are going to order the correct part or not. To go 8 weeks without a dishwasher, when you have a home warranty company, is pretty appalling.
Here's the bottom line, if your time doesn't matter to you, then there is definitely a benefit in having a home warranty company, because I can guarantee you, a new dishwasher, or just the 5 plumber callouts that have happened, would cost a lot more than what our annual policy costs. However, my time matters to me, and if I didn't have the home warranty company, I would have scrapped the dishwasher after the first non-fix, and just bought a new one. It would have cost me a lot more than my policy, but it would give me back 7-8 hours a week of my life that I have spent doing washing up for a family of 4 over the past 6 weeks. I highly recommend testing out a home warranty company to see if it's right for you, just don't choose this one.

Save your money. You are better off keeping your ~500 or whatever you paid for the warranty and buying something new when it breaks. By the time you go through multiple service visits. Pay their additional service visit fee. You end up with something that's probably going to break again soon and a bunch of wasted time. I would never recommend a home warranty from First American to anyone.

I've been a customer of First American for a long time. My sister had their home warranty so I thought having one was a good thing. I had the policy when we lived in Tennessee and continued it here in Florida. I had a different company when I bought the house because it had a plan on it. However, I wasn't happy with it and so I went back to First American. Sometimes, submitting a claim is a little difficult. I had one claim with them since I've lived in this house. The latest claim was the slowest of all. The servicemen came and they had to order parts. It took over a week to get those and it was slow in communicating back and forth. With the home warranty company, I always got a different person and it was hard to get a follow up on it.
The technician only came once. He came in, did the work and that was all the interaction we had. It was impossible to communicate by phone. We got him but to follow up calls with him, we only got an answering machine and never heard from him again. The quality of the work done was fine. But whenever he did the work and left, it was very noisy. Now, there's no noise but he didn't return to check it.
My plan was changed and there is a limit on what they will pay for repair or replacement. I'm paying $50 a month which is $600 a year. The limit's $1,500 and if they will only cover that amount, then I'm having a project for $900, then I'm having a project for $900. If there was no past record then it's not even worth the money that I pay every month to have the policy.

We had a cooling issue with the fridge of our rental property. The contractor came out two business days later. A part needed to be ordered and we did not receive a call that the part came in over a week later. I called the contractor and he said the part arrived the day before - not sure why they didn't call to schedule coming back out.
In the interim of getting in touch with him, I called First American because I was dissatisfied with the delay, and was pretty much told that it's the contractor's fault and there was nothing they could do. I asked to speak with a manager and was put on hold and then disconnected. They told me an advocate from First American would be assigned to my case, who didn't call me for several more days. By then the part was replaced.
A few weeks later, the same issue with the fridge happened again. The same contractor was sent out and went to the wrong house and then left because no one answered (it was the wrong house!) Instead of leaving me a voicemail, no one contacted me until I called asking what happened. He came out the next day and after telling him he was at the wrong house, he arrived and replaced another part. Two weeks later, same problem recurred. Same guy went to the wrong house again and didn't contact me at all. When I called the service company, I was told no one could go out again until the following Monday. Another part needed to be ordered and was told 2-3 days. It's been 2 days and still no call.
When I called First American when this third incident happened, I was told it was on the contractor and again there was nothing more they could do. I demanded to speak with a manager and the person told me she would transfer me but that a manager would not tell me anything different. I was transferred and after being on hold over 10 minutes, I gave up. I left a message for this so-called advocate and a week later have still not heard back. This company has awful customer service when an issue arises and they take no responsibility for any problems. They blame it all on contractors and don't seem to care at all about their customer's experience. Will definitely not be renewing for another year.

I've been with them for about eight years and submitting a claim has been very easy. The reps are very easy to talk to and they get back to you. I'm very pleased. I mostly had good experiences with their technicians although there were a couple of times that were not so great.
There was a guy who gave me the feeling that he didn't want to be there and didn't want to be bothered going under my house to check the plumbing. I ended up having to hire another plumber out of pocket who was able to just look at it. He didn't even go under the house and said that my problem was I needed a bigger pipe. That time we were replacing the washer and when they hooked it up, it was too strong for my pipes.
That kind of upset me because I wasted a lot of money and time. My tenants were without a washer and dryer for a while. Another time, I had somebody repair something, and I had to have it repaired again by somebody else. Also, I haven't had anything replaced brand new. They say they can't fix something and there's a little bit of the fine print that it's not covered. Other than those, First American gives me and my tenants a good feeling that if anything goes wrong, they just call and someone will come out and fix it for $65. They work in a timely manner which is nice and I have recommended them to friends.

I selected First American Home Warranty when I first moved into my home (built in the 1860s) because they were the coverage suggested by my real estate agent. The first year I had coverage, First American was great -- very responsive when I had a pipe burst in the basement and covered the repair without any pushback -- and based on that good experience, I opted to pay the $410/year for continued coverage. Since then, the service has been horrendous. Last year, I had to make multiple phone calls in order for an HVAC person to come to my home (the contractor was phenomenal -- Moad -- but First American stalled with dispatching the company even though it was in the 30s and was an emergency).
What pushed me to create an account here and write a review is what has transpired the last two days. On Monday, 10/30/17, I made a claim that my heat was not working. Almost immediately, First American contacted me to say that a contractor was dispatched and that I could expect a call within two business days. No one called, and this morning (11/1) it was a brisk 40 degrees inside my home. I attempted to contact the contractor, but no one answered, so I followed up with First American as 48 hours had passed since my report.
It turns out that at some point between 10/30/17 and 11/1/17, the contractor was marked as "Closed-Completed" by First American. The gentleman I spoke to over the phone was apologetic, and said he could send someone in the next two business days. Not good enough. I kept pushing until he finally said someone would call in the next 24 hours. Still not good enough, but better than no one.
I expected that because First American closed a claim that was never addressed that the company would for sure cover the $95.00 service fee. They refused, until I pushed, and was told they'd cover 1/2 of the service fee. At this point I have spent $410.00 in the annual feel + $47.50 + missed time at work to deal with First American because I don't have heat in my home. Do yourself a favor and find your own decent contractors or find a better warranty company. The hassle of working with First American and their obscene service fee (on top of the annual fee) is not worth it.

I own a rental and I have a tenant, and it works better if things go with a home warranty rather than me furnishing from scratch. I used another home warranty before and they always had a reason why they wouldn't approve what was being done, but First American was easy to work with. I’ve been with them for about five years and I’ve used them with other houses that I had. Submitting a claim was another plus. Although I had to wait on the phone like everybody else, it was no more than 10 minutes and it wasn't as long as the other companies that I used. They were always able to answer my questions and if they weren’t, they would make an effort to find out what the information is.
Also, I just had a claim and a technician was there today to check the air conditioning. It was warmer than usual and my tenant couldn't get the air going. But the technician told us that he had to clean the evaporator coil and that wasn't included in the warranty. So, it would still cost me a whole lot more versus the $75 service fee. There was also one contractor which I requested that First American put a note down that I don't want to see anymore. But the technicians were okay for the most part and I've been happy with the results.

BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY. IT IS A SCAM OPERATION. We have had service with First American since January 2017 and since then I have only had issues with them. Not one satisfied job performed by the contractors of this Company. We pay a service fee every month and whenever we call for the service the contractors charge us another $65.00 just to let us know that the job is not covered by insurance. This is the most ridiculous Company I have ever dealt with. Just last week we requested a plumber to fix a rocking toilet and leak in ceiling. The contractor (Master Plumbing) misses the appointment without even informing us. We waited from 9 am to 1 pm and they did not even have courtesy to call and let us know that they won't be coming.
When they do show up after 2 days, the plumber cuts through the ceiling to find the leak and is unable to diagnose the problem. He then tells us to watch for the leak ourselves and leaves the ceiling open. On the toilet he advises us that the flange needs to be changed. It is a very labor intensive and expensive job which is not true. The plumber creates more issues than what we originally called for. The toilet now has a leak which was not there before. We have since then called First American and Master Plumbing to fix the problem the plumber has created. We are still waiting on them. We have an ailing parent in the house who is on dialysis. We explained First American and Master Plumbing as to how important it is for a dialysis patient to have access to a functional bathroom, but they are insensitive to your situation.
Customer service is at its worst. We have tried to call the Escalation Department to have our issues resolved. We have been hung up upon several times. When we do get across a representative they tell us that the issues are not covered under the plan. They tell us that the plumber ASSUMES that the shower pan is leaking and will not be covered under the plan. They are working on assumptions and hence will not fix the issue. The toilet flange only costs $12.00 but they will not replace it. It is the same story every time. Nothing ever seems to be covered under the plan and we have to call outside contractors to do the job.
At this point we very frustrated with this Company and we wanted potential customers to be aware of this scam operation. It is not worth your time and money to be dealing with them. You buy Insurance for peace of mind and not to be harassed by a bunch of representatives and contractors who do not know their jobs and responsibilities. We have cancelled our Contract with them and so have our other friends and family.

Our warranty with First American came with the house when we bought it so we kept that and we've have them for about seven years now. Submitting claims have been easy and I’ve done it both online and by phone. They've always been timely, dependable, and they take care of their customers. My most recent claim was for my refrigerator and the heater in the house that went out. Their rep told me that the person from Sears would be contacting me on a certain day and that they would schedule the appointment. When the technician came out, he was very nice, pretty knowledgeable and he took care of the problem.

I've been with First American for three years now. My sister, who is a realtor, recommended First American to the prior owners of the house I bought from her. I then kept the contract because I wanted to make sure that I didn't have any issues since I've seen a lot of people that buy houses and then have major expenses afterwards. Submitting a claim with them was more personal in the first two years. I had many small claims and submitting them has been very easy. You would call somebody and you ask questions. For example, I wasn't really sure if something was covered or not so I asked them. Now, it's an automated system and it's not personal anymore.
The last technician that came out to our house was really good. However, after they called me when I submitted the claim, they told me that they were going to come two weeks out because they didn't have time. The storm was coming then, and they never called me and they didn't tell me when they'd come. Luckily, I had somebody home. The problem was then resolved and the unit has been good since. I will recommend First American.

We were purchasing a home and we thought that having a home warranty would be a good idea. So, we got First American Home Warranty and have been with them for 15 years. Submitting a claim is also easy. I just log in, file the claim, put down what's wrong and then a day or two later, the contractor calls me. The technicians are fine and they usually send somebody who is an appliance person. However, I have the washer that’s not fixed but it’s recent. It would be better if I wouldn’t have to follow up and initiate another phone call to reiterate what I had filed originally. But overall, they are great to work with.

I am a first time homeowner and I decided to go with First American Home Warranty last year, which was considered then the best in class. Little did I know my woes will only increase with this company. Today I am a very dissatisfied customer and the warranty team handling my claim has given me enough mental trauma. Details of my claim case: We had a slow flow in our hot water side in our kitchen faucet, and we called First American team and raised this issue on Sep 18 2017.
Visit 1 from the contractor: Diagnosed as some issue with the angle stop on the hot water side. Visit 2: Another contractor came and fixed the hot water angle stop, which WORSENED whatever flow we had left on the hot water reducing it to almost negligible. And resulted in WATER LEAKS from below under the cabinet. Visit 3: Another contractor diagnosed it as a faucet issue and said to replace the faucet.
Visit 4: Another contractor came and said there is issue with the faucet AS WELL AS angle stop on the cold water side - which was a new diagnosis. Even though our home currently has nickel brushed extendable faucet with 2 types of water sprays, First American said they will only give us chrome non-extendable faucet which doesn't go with our kitchen appliances and devalues our property. So we offered we would like to go for a cash out option, where the value of the cash out is a fair valuation of the faucet price and the installation price. OR we were ok with a cash out of the faucet price only if First American is willing to cover installation.
A few days ago on 10/23 - First American’s claim rep managing our case said they can do both and asked us what option we would like. Today on 10/27 - when we said we want cash out option - they said it is not an option and were not able to give any valid reasons why. So after more than 6 weeks, approximately 30 + calls, today we are back to square one, and now dealing with First American and their contractors has introduced so many new problems in our kitchen => no water on hot water side, very low flow on cold water side and leakage from the bottom of the sink. Forget about solving our problems, we cannot use our kitchen faucet anymore and have to carry water from our restroom. And we have a newborn in the house. Worst customer service ever.

She’s been a long-time customer and she placed a claim for the plumbing to replace the water heater. The reps were very friendly and their interaction was very cordial. The plumbers were also very professional and on the up and up. Everything’s working perfectly and our tenant is happy, which is always important. In fact, we renewed a lease with him and he’s been a very good tenant. When something is dripping or something is wrong, he lets us know right away because he knows that it can get out of hand right away. Our experience with First American was very professional and the plumbing company that was sent out was top-notch. They were knowledgeable and the job was done fairly quickly, so we're happy with that.

My Realtor whom I trust likes First American and I've always had First American when I sold or bought a home. Having a home warranty gives me some protection, and I just felt that was important. Submitting a claim is easy. I do it over the phone and the claims reps that I talk to are generally pleasant. About 10 years ago, I had a couple of claims in a condominium where I had a floor replaced in the bathroom and my air conditioner was replaced. That was good. And one time, probably 10 or 12 years ago, I had a dishwasher replaced but I didn’t want the quality of the dishwasher they wanted because they give you the lowest priced dishwasher. I wanted a nicer dishwasher, so they gave me an allowance that I could spend and get myself a better dishwasher which is fair.
The last technician who came was for a garage door opener. We just moved in here about a year ago. Before I realized the garage door openers were covered, our spring broke and so I had called someone else and spent $200 or $300 on replacing the spring and getting it all set up. And then most recently, a few months ago, we had some trouble with the garage. The door would go up and down like it had a short in it. I called First American and when the technician came out, he looked it all over. He wanted to replace the spring, but I told him that I just replaced the spring and it’s perfectly fine.
The tech wanted to make adjustments, but the adjustments weren’t covered so I chose not to do anything. He lubricated it and it works fine. I felt like he was just trying to get some more money out of me and I didn’t want to do that. It’s very irksome when some things are covered, and some are not. Adjusting the garage door for my $75 service call should be covered but it wasn’t. That was irritating to me.
Other than that, I'm happy with their service. It’s a backup I'm comfortable with. Right now, I’m in a house where we just remodeled entirely and I have all brand new appliances. Most of them are covered but the refrigerator and washer and dryer are an extra charge. I had a problem with my washer and dryer because it wasn’t covered. The previous owner bought the policy and it said it was a first class upgrade, so I assumed it covered everything. However, it didn’t cover my washer and dryer. So, when I went to renew the policy, I added the washer and dryer. I chose not to put the refrigerator on there because the refrigerator is brand new but when it gets a little older, I’ll put it on. To me, it’s a better value to do the First American than it is to buy a Sears plan.

We were told to get one of our own & they would reimbursement of up to $200. Seriously? What HVAC contractor will do any work for $200? After getting a contractor to come out & give us an estimate of what it would cost to fix the issue (which was just the fan motor) we opted to fix it ourselves. FAHW has REFUSED to reimburse us for the cost of the part---all because my husband did the work as we could not afford the $450 for the contractor to do the job which only took 15 minutes. I had made a call to see if we could have our own person to come and look at the problem because the fix was going to be really easy. First American then suggested that we have one of their service people come out so that they can make sure that it was fixed properly. Within 24 hours, the service representative had called to make an appointment. The technicians were very responsive, and within in a couple of days, the water heater guy was here. The AC guy took a little bit longer to come, but the AC was working. There was just a minor issue with it that we needed to have looked at. Both techs have been great, timely and have fixed the issues.

That was during the summer time so when it starts getting a bit colder here in the next two months, I will call them to send someone out. On the other hand, submitting a claim was an easy process. He just put in two little different clips at the bottom and they wouldn't stay in place because of the old worn out gasket. AHS sent a different company out and they took care of the job. So I ended up calling them and have had them since. They repaired our refrigerator, washer dryer, dishwasher, air conditioners and heater and every time I submitted a claim, I called in. I wanted a person and didn’t want to go online but they always asked me if I did. Sometimes, I couldn’t understand them on the phone but sometimes, the customer service was more English speaking and they were good.
The technicians were professional and very friendly. I've never come across anyone that was rude yet. They tell you every step of the way. First American was fast and they spoiled me for so long that I now expect that when I call, I have somebody out there within the next day. Though I don’t agree with the price going up and I’m sure that it can get cheaper, I stick with someone who has treated me right. I really like them and I recommended them to a lot of people.

They originally said they would replace the dryer if they could not find the part after 21 days but called and asked for another 48 hours and that was 2 weeks ago. Today they called again and asked for another 48 hours. The Dryer is old and so they have been searching for a part for 48 days. We’ve been passed from Rep to Rep and no one ever seems to know what the last Rep has done, Even though they have each Rep claims that they have put extensive notes in their system. My gas was shut off Sept. 18th because of a gas leak in the house which was "covered" by First American. I needed a plumber but they sent a heating and air man. Called again for a plumber. He started the work, but First American wouldn't pay him because he "charged too much." They assigned another plumber. He was a no show after an appointment was made and didn't return calls. He had an F rating by the BBB. Assigned a 4th person. He came but said he couldn't fix the leak because insulation in attic had to be removed which of course wasn't covered. I talked to First American and they wouldn't even have someone look at the heating cooling unit to replace it without me spending quite a bit of money to remove the insulation and put it back with no guarantee the leak would be fixed and the gas turned back on (The unit is 30 years old). I got no help from First American other than them saying, "I'll call back tomorrow to check."
I have a notebook with pages of notes where I talked to them, but really got no help. After dealing with this for a month, no gas, no heat, I had the old gas unit taken out and replaced with an electric unit. It cost me 5300.00 out of my pocket to get this replaced. After paying premiums every month for almost 10 years to cover everything in my house I still ended up spending 5300.00 to fix this problem. They are great for little things, but for expensive things that they "cover" they really don't want to fix them or replace them. I will not recommend this company if you are spending money each month for peace of mind on things like heating and air, extensive plumbing repairs, etc. You will be disappointed. I am looking for a new home warranty company now as this is the second time this has happened with an expensive repair. I am now out 5300.00 on a heater that was "covered."

When I bought my new home, I received a one-year warranty with First American from my home builder. Prior to that, unfortunately, I was with American Home Shield who's like the worst warranty company that ever lived. It left a bad taste in my mouth. Fortunately, First American came with the new home that I bought. They sent me somebody quickly, took care of my problem at my standard rate with no issues. Because of the hurricane, a lot of stuff got in our plumbing line. It was 163-mile wind blowing at my house but our house is built for category three. We had about 20 shingles damaged and got that fixed. But I may have a backup starting and they came out and did the Roto-Rooter job. The guy they sent was great and did a great job. I called then they had him out the next day.
The plumbing guy was as nice as he could be. It's good. Another cute little story that goes with it, we have two cats and they both love to get into my wife's bathroom. One of them got a hold of her wedding ring and the wedding ring disappeared for six months. We searched the entire house but could not find it. She was heartbroken. So, we went out and got her another one for her birthday. When the guy from the plumbing company came out to service the drain, when he pulled out our washing machine, lo and behold, there was her ring. The cat carried it all the way from across the house. I couldn't move the washing machine because I'm 67 but the service guy did a great job.
I'm very pleased so far. It happened to be time for my renewal, so I did renew. Hopefully, I don't need them this year. I hate it when people say, "You're wasting money." "Well, it's better than having a big problem." So, it's not waste. It's for peace of mind. They have a great response time, great service and great price. I couldn't ask for more. I already have recommended it to two of my neighbors.

So, I called them back and they said that I have to pay again. I told them that I’m not gonna pay it. The guy didn’t fix it, so they need to send somebody else out to fix it. They did send somebody else out but it was early December before it finally got fixed. I was not happy about that. The last two guys who came were excellent, though, and the heater has worked ever since.
Recently, I called in for the sink and then nobody came. So, I called again about two or three weeks later and a guy called me right back and he came out. He unclogged the drain because it was clogged but he said the reason it was leaking is that there was a hole in the underneath part of the sink. He said he'd turned in the paperwork and he has to check to see whether or not First American was going to pay to have a new sink put in. It’s been about three weeks now and I've not heard anything.
If I call and First American say that they’ve solved the problem because they’ve heard from somebody, call that person or get somebody new out and don’t leave it to me to do it. First American wanted me to call the contractor but that’s what I pay them for.

Is this normal for how your staff is taught to treat someone who was the victim of ID theft and card fraud? What a very poor reflection on your company.

First American Home Warranty is all talk and no action. Bought a new condo and with it came a First American Home Warranty policy and a refrigerator that will not take any adjustment in temperature. Filed a claim and they coordinated two service providers to come out to service on two different Saturdays. Both were in and out in 10 minutes as they stated they were not qualified to work on the Samsung model. Both reported back to First American Home Warranty why they could not service.
Then I get a call from Michelle ** of the Customer Advocacy Department who states she will take care of me from that point out. She stated the unit was still under manufacture warranty and to call Samsung for service. So I did and Samsung stated IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. Two weeks later I get an email that they cannot find anyone to work on the unit so they stated I needed to find someone myself. This is a perfect example of why these warranty companies are nothing but a ripoff and a way to get your money. They promise the world and never deliver. Stay away from these crooks.

I wasn’t getting justice from the home warranty that I had for about 10. I had Sears for the appliances and Era Insurance for the home warranty. I paid them for over 10 years for nothing because they never serviced anything. And so I tried First American, I heard about them from a friend of mine and also I saw some advertisements on TV. They seemed to be more on it compared to those I previously had but, to a certain degree, I still don’t feel more secure with First American.
I bought this house 15 years ago and I was always told that if nothing broke I need not fix it. Also, I had the air conditioner working fine for 15 years, and I had it serviced and cleaned. And then, we had a power surge the 22nd of July and it wouldn't come back on. I called First American but they told me they didn't approve it because it was struck by lightning. They consider the power surge struck by lightning which they do not cover. There's nothing burnt. It just blotted out the whole neighborhood. We had no electricity for about four hours. And when it came back on, everything was working fine except the air conditioner. When I called my home warranty insurance, they told me it was out of the service date, that it outlived its warranty. Neither insurance company offered me a solution or even tried to help.
So these things happened, which were beyond my control, and the response I got from them was so negative. The only reason I'm staying and keeping the insurance is because the repairs they have done were on point, on time and everything was taken care of. They repaired my refrigerator and the garbage disposal. When I had problems with the sewer line, I called them and asked for the gentleman that repaired the garbage disposal. And when I got him on the phone, he politely cast me out because there was another plumber coming and it would defeat his work. Other than that, First American has been most accommodating. They were very pleasant and they go out of their way to help. I'd recommend them to a friend.

I thought a few things will happen and a lot of parts in our home will have something wrong. We'll have some things for repair so I should take the extra steps with a home warranty. Things are going okay with First American Home Warranty. The first claim I had was a couple of months back. There was something with the dishwasher. The technicians had some trouble and they had to come out two to three times to get it fixed. The last claim was the water heater. It was leaking so I called them and they sent out somebody to repair it. They offered to replace it at a particular cost but I chose the pay-out option to get the cheaper price. They were charging extra for the unit for installation. I searched a little bit on the website. The system is working out fine now. Overall, my experience with First American was fine but they should take a little bit more off of the price.

First American has possibly the worst customer service I've ever dealt with. First of all, in my experience they have used absolute bargain-bin contractors who can't be troubled to show up half the time, and when they do they do terrible work. My most recent episode came when a plumbing issue came up. I believe I called on Wednesday, October 11 to make my claim. The appointment was scheduled for Monday between 1 and 5. Contractor didn't show. Rescheduled for Wednesday, October 18 between 9 and 1. Contractor didn't show. When I would call contractor for updates, the lady kept claiming they were "on their way" and when I kept calling back she blocked my calls.
I called First American about this, and they called on my behalf and got a response that the contractor would arrive between 1 and 5 (haven't showed as of 3 pm). I asked First American if I could choose a plumber that I know and work with locally, and they refused. Keep in mind that I have been at home not working for 2 days now, and First American's response was to wait until 5 and if they haven't showed yet, First American will choose a different contractor. Yeah, so I have been at home now for 2+ days due to the unprofessional plumber First American selected, and they can't even make it right by letting me choose my professional.
Also on the call I was transferred 3 times with huge wait times and the 3rd time I wasn't even told that I was being transferred. Their response each time was clearly read off a queue card or memorized, and they failed to LISTEN to me once. As an accountant, I can appreciate that First American is trying to make a high margin by utilizing the cheapest contractors possible. However, if someone has been at home for 2 days due to the unprofessional contractor, you really should make an exception. Nobody cared who I talked to on the phone, and they never apologized - they just said "I understand". Once again - worst customer service ever!!!

I had a terrible experience with First American because it took too long to get the air conditioning fixed in our rental property. We called on a Wednesday night and the technician showed up the next day and said that the compressor needs to be replaced. The next Tuesday I called the technician to find out when the compressor was going to be in. He didn’t know when and said that First American was the one that ordered it. I called First American and the rep said that they were waiting on my approval for them to go ahead because there was $150 for the uncovered charges. So I'm glad I called and I paid that.
We had lost four or five days because the day when the technician came out, I thought the unit should have been ordered the next morning and I should have had a phone call saying that First American was waiting for my approval. It took another 10 days before we got the unit. There was poor communication but the contractor that First American used was very good. As soon as the unit arrived, he was right over here and installed it.
The AC went out seven or eight years ago on my personal house but it happened a lot faster and went great on other times that I called. I also had a problem with the HVAC a few months ago. I paid the contractor but I started getting calls from collection. I called First American and said I paid it. I was able to research it and found the credit card where the charge was on. Then I got something in the mail the other day saying it's been paid.

My realtor introduced First American Home Warranty to me. It’s the second time that I’ve submitted a claim to them and the online process was easy since their website was easy to navigate. However, it took three days for First American to answer. They never assigned a contractor too so I ended up calling them. Their rep said my claim was still being processed and it seemed that he didn’t know what he was doing. Unlike my first claim, this experience wasn’t good.
We got a contractor assigned the same day. The first time the tech came out, a lady called me and scheduled the service the next day but that was fine. The rep was fine too. However, Ormando, the guy who came out, acted like he didn't know what he was doing or he didn't want to do whatever work that he was doing. He didn't touch anything. He just stood there and looked at the shower, then went downstairs and looked where the leak was coming from. He then said that he didn't have the authority to drill through sidings and he only had the authority to drill through drywall.
He called the company and told them that he would have to drill through siding. The company then sent out some restoration people and one person asked me if Ormando tried some things. I told him all the guy did was stand there. I also said, "I'm not a plumber but I know that normally, plumbers would check the shower head or check where the shower comes on or check the drain." He asked if the guy checked any of them and I said no. I ended up having to call back on Friday. The contractor sent someone out on Monday to check the issue. The person found the issue right away and fixed it. He was good and very thorough. He also knew what he was doing.

The rep who I talked to was a little bit hard to understand because the first language is not English. They contacted a plumbing company, the plumber came and did a spectacular job of unclogging the sink. I was very pleased. So, when I put in another work order for my dishwasher that doesn't work, I thought I would have the same service experience. They sent out an appliance company, a representative came to look at the dishwasher and figured out it needed a certain part, which he didn't have. He told me it would take five to seven days before the part would come in. That was two and a half weeks ago and I still haven't heard from the appliance company.
I've called First American back, made my complaint and I'm still waiting on a resolution. I tried to call the appliance company myself and all I get is voicemail. I called First American on Saturday to follow up and the agent I talked to had the same experience as I did. She tried to call the appliance repair company and all she got was a voicemail. In addition, the appliance repair people were not professional, unlike the plumbers. My experience the first time was great but the second time was awful. It was terrible because I called them and put in the claim on August 30th and they didn’t call until about nine days later and I was on vacation in Mexico. And then they scheduled a time, and then they said, “Well, the tech had some emergency, reschedule.” But any time you call them, you just get a voicemail. You can never get through to them.
So, I called First American and they called them to see what was going on. They too got put into voicemail. So, they got me someone who was local, and that didn’t take long at all. The next day he came over, checked everything, made a replacement, put in more freon and then we were fine. And while some of the claims had been perfect, there was one or two that we had a problem with.
We were having trouble with a washing machine a couple of years ago. Somebody came out that First American recommended. The tech said a certain part was needed and then we never heard back from that company again. We also called several times. The last ones we had were perfect, though. We had a clogged sink line and a washing machine line about five months ago and the techs cleaned them out. Then, we had a problem the next day and the company came right back out and took care of it. The techs were also very competent. We’re satisfied with their work. First American was a part of my home purchase 22 years ago and I've filed about 15 claims over the years. I had a refrigerator, a stove, and a washing machine go out, and they took care of those. I let them buy me another stove and I did that on the refrigerator as well because what they considered comparable was not. I bought the refrigerator because it had two crisper drawers and a gallery drawer, but they didn’t think that the gallery drawer was necessary. The most recent one was the washing machine. I let them replace the washing machine but I didn’t accurately figure the cubic inches of the washer and they replaced it with a much smaller one. I have a laundry room that has water heater faucet, so it's got to be one unit and they tried to replace it with two - a washer and a dryer. There weren't even hookups in the house so that has been problematic.
I've had lots of good experiences as well and I haven't been disappointed in any of their contractors. It was weird the first time that they decided to replace something rather than repair it because when that happens the contractor leaves. This last time they're also buying me out on my kitchen faucet because it was leaking and I decided that it was going to be more costly to repair than to replace it. I didn't want to replace it with the one that's there. I wanted a different style so they sent me the money back. Someone gave me an estimate which I thought was a firm one. It's still leaking but we're being very careful because somehow it's controllable.
When I came back, there was an additional charge that I've never heard of topped on for the technicians and the diagnostics. I thought when I paid the service fee, I've already paid for that, so that gave me a bad feeling and uneasiness. I have two different customer service people working with me and then they came up with two different numbers. My background is in accounting, so that’s kind of weird. But with all that considered, I would still recommend First American, but my recommendation is a little less wholehearted. Overall, First American has pretty comprehensive care and it’s pretty easy to navigate.

WOW!!! Worst experience I've had with a company of any kind in my life. I file the claim 4 days ago that my A/C has stopped working. I'm assigned a contractor in a city 3 hours away from me. Contractor given 48 hrs to contact me, never happened. I try to contact the contractor upwards of 30 times at various numbers given. The contractor is called MPA Plumbing and Air btw. So the 48 hours is up, try to call the warranty co, and these guys will not give up on making me use this worthless contractor. They say there is absolutely no one else I can use. No way for me to get it done myself and get reimbursed. So the basic reality is, since there is no available reliable contractor to use, I'm just SOL, and don't get to have the work done I guess.
Meanwhile I'm four days in a 90 degree house with no A/C. I've finally given up on this warranty company. Just had a local contractor out to tell me my unit will have to be replaced. $9500 dollars out of pocket. The warranty, thus far, has benefited me in no way whatsoever, and refused to recognize they had a contractor that could not be used. I will definitely be posting reviews everywhere I can find to post one.

The warranty was recommended by one of the real estate professionals we've worked with. We looked into them and we've had them for two years now. Submitting a claim is the easiest part. You place a phone call then they take and validate your info, who you are, what you are, and making sure that they’re talking to the right people. They're very quick, they work with you and they have a process in place as far as an escalation or anything of that nature.
The repairs that we've asked them to provide have been taken care of too. We've had technicians come out for the same problem with the dishwasher three times. There were some concerns because the technicians had to repeatedly come out and that took time from the tenants because they are working people. They have to schedule the visits and some time off too. But the technicians were prompt and they have gotten the problem resolved. I've only faced them to pay the deductible but I’m overall satisfied with the services.

Predatory business that take advantage for their customer base almost to the point it like a scam. All contractors that are assigned take a minimum of two visits in order to repair an issue. You can only report up to four issues with any trade per service request. Every service request costs an additional service fee of $75 in addition to the initial payment of ~$600 for a year of coverage.
Any work completed only has a warranty of thirty days. Business vouches only for it contractors and always sides with the contractor. The policyholder is responsible to prove a contractor failed to provide proper service within thirty days. Every issue reported in the service request will need to fail completely in order to be serviced or it will be deemed as a 'non mechanical failure' and will not be repaired/replaced. If an item can be replaced it will only be replaced with a industry standard basic equivalent. Any brand names or extras are considered upgrades and will not be approved by the business.

We've always had home warranty. The one that we had prior to First American was really bad. So when our contract ended, we decided we were going to look for another company. Theresa from First American answered my call. I had a lot of reservations based on our experience from our previous homeowner warranty, and she assured me that First American is different, so we had a conversation. It took two months for me to decide to go with First American because there was also another one that we were eyeing that had a good rating, American Home Shield.
So far, we are pleased with our experience with First American. Though we are not 100 percent pleased because of the urgency of the repair, they expedited one of our claims which was for the water heater when it died. That was during the winter and we couldn't take a shower. We had to go to the gym. But as far as our pool pump being serviced, I don't know how many pool service providers they have a contract with in Fulton, California where we live, but that seems to be a problem. We live in a very hot climate that if the pool pump is not working, we could really get some allergies. Also, when our refrigerator died, it needed to have the control board changed so we had to wait. Luckily we have another refrigerator in the garage. But if I didn't have any refrigerator, all this stuff would have gone bad. First American should really expedite as far as service for the refrigerator, because there's a lot of food that can go bad.
Nevertheless, the people who First American hires or have a contract with are good except for one, West Pools. The technician told First American that somebody was loosening the bolts because we had to call in twice for our pool pump. That was so offensive for him to accuse. He didn't say the homeowner but somebody. It's just me and my husband here, so it has to be either my husband and I or the pool guy who comes and service our pool. So when I placed another service to have our pool pump serviced because it was really not working correctly, I told them that I didn't like that guy who came and serviced. But overall, we're happy with the service that we've gotten from First American. It's just the timing of the service, but otherwise we're happy.

When I submitted a claim for my garage door, the office got a hold of the technicians right away. They came out and fixed it and it's been working ever since. The representative was really nice and the service was great. I just renewed it for another year.

When I purchased my home four years ago, I purchased a policy with First American Home Buyers, and I have been happy with their service over the years. However, when my kitchen refrigerator stopped working in late July 2017, I went through a nightmare with the company. Repairmen from two different companies evaluated the problem, sent for a part, then returned to realize the part didn't work. First American's policy is not to replace an appliance if it can be fixed. I told the various reps whom I spoke with over the next two months that I was a disabled senior. I do not drive, and was dependent on friends to bring needed food. First American was unresponsive to my situation, and only gave me the funds to purchase a new refrigerator when the fifth repairman could not get the machine running. I am appalled by the insensitivity and lack of responsiveness. It makes me wary of renewing the contract next summer.

First American's home warranty is fantastic and we absolutely love it. My realtor showed me different warranty providers and I chose First American which I thought was the best. When I submitted a claim recently, that was the second time that I had filed a claim with them, and it was simple and massively easy. I did it over the phone because I wanted to ask questions about whether or not the problem would be covered. I had a perfect time dealing with the representative. The technician who came out was quick, and extremely nice and personable. But we found out that the issue with the shower was not covered, so he didn’t get to do anything about it and I had to take it to a different direction. But the tech explained to us the reason that it wasn’t covered and we understood completely. Despite that, it was still a great experience. I have already suggested First American to some people and I would recommend them to all my friends.

The representatives with FAHW are friendly, but getting them to answer you is almost impossible when you have a problem. The biggest issue, however, is that if you live in a smaller market, finding any sort of reputable or reliable contractor to perform the work is nearly impossible. They will assign someone who is supposed to contact you, and they will a) not contact you, b) contact you and not show up, c) show up and not fix the problem, d) repeatedly order parts that never fix the problem, e) waste hours of your time, or f) all of the above. Often the answer is "f".
Sadly, FAHW does little to address the problem unless you figure out how to work the system. It took me over three hours on the phone one night to complain about a microwave that hadn't been fixed after 2 months and 4 tries by Sears before they finally got me to a local representative who was able to settle the account by offering to buy out the microwave coverage at their cost, then issue me a check so I could buy one and have it installed on my own, and then they would cover it as a new appliance in the house once installed.
Most recently, I had a garage door repair that took nearly a month to have anyone acknowledge my existence, and FAHW finally agreed to let me hire my own contractor (who fixed the problem in two days), and then I paid them and FAHW is now twiddling their thumbs to reimburse me the amount of the repairs minus the service fee, even though I followed every single step verbatim. I would highly recommend looking for another home warranty company with better customer service and a better network of repair professionals (professionals being the keyword there).
We appreciate your feedback and look forward to being able to address your concerns directly with you.

I'm a Realtor and I use First American a lot. They have the best value for the money. It’s never easy to submit a claim, but you just have to be persistent, because there aren't a lot of contractors that want to work for them. I live 45 minutes outside of Downtown Cincinnati and they're telling me they can't find anybody to service an air conditioning unit. But once they get them there, they’ve all been good. The quality of the work is excellent. It's a good warranty overall and I recommend it to people.

My biggest concern with First American is the warranty and I was pretty upset. If they fix something, it's only good for 30 days and if it turns up 31 days later, I’ve got to pay another $75 for it even if it's not fixed, which makes no sense to me. That’s what they tried to do to me when they fixed the plumbing issues until 32 days later. By that time, I’ve got to fix the original installation that they didn't fix right, and when I called back, they said it would be another $75. That's when I told the lady rep to go to hell, to be honest. That was my first claim and probably the last because I'll never renew it.

I received a warranty from First American Home Warranty from my seller when I purchased a home. The air conditioning quit working right after I moved in. FAHW sent out a contractor who told me that they tried to get a new part but couldn't ever get FAHW to approve the appropriate part. They finally gave up and refused to continue as they said they didn't want to put in a part that was not comparable to the existing part. FAHW sent out another contractor. This was in August 2017 in Arkansas and we are both almost 80 with health problems. After approximately 3 weeks, and several calls from us and our real estate agent to many different representatives, they finally approved a part and got it fixed.
In the meantime, the rep handling my claim named Camila told me to go and get a fan and a portable room air conditioner and assured me that I would be reimbursed as soon as they received the receipts. I did purchase these two items and sent her the receipts. The fan receipt was sent August 29th and it was received by FAHW. I sent the portable air conditioner receipt around the 4th of Sept. I received an email on Sept. 14th asking me to send another copy of the receipts as they couldn't read the name of the air conditioner on the receipt. I sent another copy of both receipts. She closed the case even after I told her I had not got the reimbursement. She did not follow up to make sure I got the reimbursement after she assured me I would get reimbursed. I got the air conditioner on clearance at a greatly reduced price trying to keep these costs down.
The reps I contacted kept telling me to send the receipts although I had sent them. I sent them two more times to different reps that I contacted. The last rep stayed on the phone with me while I sent them to make sure they were received. I had to change the size of the receipts in order for them to be received by him. He said he had them and could read them and he was sending them to Accounting for approval and I would receive a check within 7 to 10 days. Since that time I have called two more times and have received different answers, both ending in the statement that it has NOW been approved and I would receive a check with 7 to 10 days. I had reservations about making these purchases due to the fact that FAHW has not handled my claim efficiently. But, we were suffering from the heat and needed some relief. This experience has been very stressful and I would not recommend them. I am still waiting on reimbursement.

I’m an agent and I use First American. I call the head of their claims department and it's wonderful. For our last claim, we couldn’t get a contractor who’s under their recommendation. The one they wanted to send me didn’t show up and his mailbox was full and we couldn’t get them to answer. So I got a different contractor outside their recommendation and what they paid me certainly didn’t cover what the contractor charged, but at least I got it done. Previously, I had a contractor come at the wrong time. Time has come for First American to realize that they have to get different contractors. I understand that part of the problem in getting a different contractor is they don’t want to pay the price. It’s all business but it needs to be done. I’m going to continue to use them, though.

When I re-upped, I had to change my email account in order to do it online and it's better to submit a claim online. I don't feel that their representatives are very helpful. It's a younger group and when they speak to me, they are not very polite. I'm glad that I can now do it online and submit my claim anytime. If something happens with the dishwasher, I could submit a claim right away. It's helpful that I'm not put on hold and it's immediate. I'm not a computer person and would rather speak to a person, so it's interesting how that worked out.
But all the techs that were sent to me were great and got the part fixed. Nothing has broken down after they fixed it. The techs were also polite. So far I've had a dishwasher, dryer, and water heater repaired. The only difficulty I had was with the dishwasher. I had to wait for a month. Nevertheless, I always recommend First American, even to strangers. I think it's important, not everybody has money put away for these emergencies and sometimes they happen one after another.

I simply either call them or wait to have the vendor call me and within a short period of time, the claim will be handled and typically resolved rather quickly. The work that their techs do is adequate and gets completed with nothing left undone. So far, First American is doing what they say they’re going to do. Water not filling correctly, and washing cycle, hardly moving to wash the clothes. I contacted the company and was sent unprofessional service people, who did not know how to fix LG washing machine. I have a couple of parts replaced by one company and it did not fix the problem.
After at least 5 companies visiting my home, First American recommended that I get a service person on my own and pay the fee out of pocket, which I did. I got an LG certified technician, who told me that the GEARS need replacing, the agitation of the machine is hardly working, which causes the clothes not to be washed correctly, I sometimes need to run the machine 3 times for one load otherwise it would be a sanitary problem. I faxed over the report, still First American Home Warranty refuses to fix the machine and is telling me that it's a COSMETIC problem.
First American is not standing behind their contract and to me it is breach of their contract, which is a BAD FAITH contract. I feel they try to get out of fixing and/or replacing appliances, especially, name brand one. I am still struggling with my wash on a daily basis, I run the machine 3 - 4 times for one load. We bought a home in Sept 2016. Our seller bought a policy for our home to give us peace of mind about the functionality of the major systems. First, our water heater went out. Our family of 6 was without hot water in the winter for 10 days. It took FOREVER to find a service provider and FOREVER to get the parts ordered after having to fight to get a covered item approved. Second, on August 7, 2017, our upstairs HVAC unit stopped cooling. We reported the outage to FAHW that day and again waited FOREVER to get a service representative to examine the system even though they dispatched a provider THAT DAY. Finally on August 24 (3 weeks later), someone came and looked at it. They turned in their findings to FAHW, FAHW ordered the parts and sent us a confirmation email to let us know. There was no mention of anything not being covered in the repairs.
On September 21st, 7 weeks after the initial report, the technician got the parts and came to finally fix our system. After he was done, he informed us that we owed him an additional $240 for non-covered parts. We knew nothing about the non-covered parts. Our technician showed us his documentation that showed FAHW does not pay for and send parts UNTIL THE CUSTOMER HAS AGREED TO PAY for non-covered charges. This is a no-brainer. The customer should be able to choose if they can spend that extra money, right? FAHW doesn't think so. They think it is perfectly acceptable to force their customers to pay hidden charges without ANY warning at all.
This spending put our family in a bind. FAHW refunded our $65 service call fee. Basically what this means is that they chose to spend our money for us. This amounts to fraud and theft. Don't fall into the trap of using this company because you think it will save you thousands. The stress and the headaches are NOT worth the trouble they have caused us! I welcome any questions for anyone who might want to know more. I am happy to share my experience!

Now I have an electrical issue, they sent an electrician. The tech/owner of the company had no clue how to diagnose the issue. Took service fee and left. My uncle came over to swap out the bad outlet that was causing the issue. If I wanted to pay vendors to not do the work and take the service fee I could do that on my own. When I called to complain they read off what their vendor said he did and closed the claim with no resolution. He got paid for what he said he did but didn't and they didn't question him at all.

I had an excellent interaction with the tech who came. They sent the same person for both the looking at and the repair of the icemaker. Being totally blind, I was glad that they did that and he had put on the invoice that I was totally blind so in case they'd send somebody that was different, that person would know. One person said it was because the footings were different for the patio than the rest of the house. The patio was built with the house, under the same roof and concrete as the rest of the house.
If you call to speak to a supervisor they transfer you to another team member. You come out better letting your contract cancel for non payment because they will not refund you any money - they charge $50 for admin fees to cancel a contract. This is copied from the website: To be covered, Items must be installed for diagnosis and located within the confines of the perimeter of the foundation of the primary living quarters or garage (except well pump, septic tank, sewage ejector pump, pressure regulator, air conditioning and pool/spa equipment; when applicable).

I have started telling people about my experience with them versus the other company that I had.

A home warranty is a good investment when you don’t have the money to get certain appliances. I got my home warranty from First American Home Buyers Protection based on the recommendation of my daughter. My overall experience in submitting a claim with First American was great. The techs were great and they came right on out and performed well. They even saw other things that had to be fixed.
But my refrigerator was the worst problem. It kept breaking down in different parts. I've had it serviced five or six times and this last time took a toll. The ref has been out of here since the end of July and the techs couldn’t find a part. At one point, I asked First American why it was taking them so long to replace my ref and they told me that they had to do all they could to try to solve the problem before they could replace the item. Since they can’t get the part and there's nothing they can do about this, they’re going to replace my ref and I’m waiting for them to call me. Other than that, First American has been okay and has done a good job.

We already had a program on our old house with Sears and it was more expensive than I wanted it to be. We heard about First American through our realtor and found that it could be purchased for a decent price, so we told the realtor to go ahead and do it. When I filed a claim, I talked to one of the appraisers who were assigning it. The young lady was going to assign it to Sears, but said it would be too far out. She assigned it to a company that was located in East Tennessee, but the company called and asked where we're located. I told them and they said they'll have to reassign the claim to their other office, which is 50 miles away, 'cause they were 130 miles away. I spoke with First American and they said they can assign it to Sears because this other company is not going to be able to service us, but it will take about a week.
We waited, Sears came out, and we got fantastic service. We've used Sears before and they had fantastic service. As usual, when something is acting up, we call a repairman. We heard noises, but by the time he arrived, something has changed. He did a diagnostic and said he could find nothing wrong with the system. We still have the same noises, but he never heard them. The actual service was great and the gentleman was very knowledgeable, but he didn’t do a thing, except listen to the unit and use a sensor to determine the temperature in the freezer and in the refrigerator. He said they're fine, but the coils were dirty and cleaning them doesn't come with the service, so we had to do it.
We also had a claim for the air conditioner. First American assigned it to a company that was 30 miles away, which is in the service area. A gentleman and his helper came out, went right in, opened the case surrounding the air conditioner compressor, and replaced the capacitor. The gentleman was very knowledgeable and the AC has worked fine since. Overall, First American is a very good company and very responsive to the claims.

Our old warranty was expiring so I shopped around and got First American because of their price and name. I spoke with their claims representative when I submitted a claim, and it was quick and easy. The technician canceled on one of the appointments so that was a pain. He no-showed and then he called and rescheduled after he missed the appointment. First American sent a different person the second time. He was fine and he did the job. It’s been a good experience overall.

I called the First American Home Warranty company for service. Both my wife and I were off for 9 days straight and thought we could get this resolved during that time. We were offered a date of service a week and a half later. I asked for them to find another service provider who could do the work this week. They assigned our case to another provider and said they had 2 days to call us. I called them and left a message the next two days. I finally got to speak to the new provider on the 4th day and their response was "we do not service your area." The warranty company did not call us back nor did the service company.
I called the warranty company on day 6, wasted over an hour of my time talking to 3 people to get a service out to the house. I spoke to Johnathon, a supposed supervisor, and he told me he had a call into another company and he would be calling them in 2 hours if they did not respond. I asked to be called back after that and he agreed. "Big Surprise", no callback. I have been without an oven for 7 days now. All of their literature says they will set up a convenient time to get us service. I guess they mean convenient for them! I have used other home warranty companies in the past with no issues. I found their people to be very unhelpful and very uncaring. What a poor way to run a business. Ironically I received a renewal notice in the mail today. What a joke.

Where do I begin. If you have only filed a claim on the phone, stop there. I do them online now so I can have a record of all the replies they send. I requested that my AC be serviced as my house would not cool under 79. They came and said, "You have a leak" and all they could do is add Freon and see how long it takes to leak back out. Contractor said, "It could be months and that's what FAHW" counts on. That way they don't have to cover anything else. Well my house cooled for about 1 week and same problem occurred. I resubmitted my claim and they sent another guy out. He said no leak but didn't check anything. He said the air feels cool so it must not be a leak. I resubmitted again and was called for service the day before hurricane Harvey was going to hit.
When I called FAHW after the hurricane they said, "We called the contractor and they should be calling you." Well no one called and I asked for the number. They sent me the contractor's phone number and it was a disconnected line. I called FAHW again and they sent out a new company. They came yesterday and said, "You probably have a leak but the pressure doesn't give FAHW reason to fix." He said, "They have a quota that they try to meet and if it cost more they deny." This is why I now submit online, I am sending BBB a copy of my thread messages with them and hope they can do something. I have 2 months left on my contract and will be glad not to have to deal with them. The sales people paint a pretty picture of coverage but when it comes down to it, if it's not a cheap fix it will not be done. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.

My realtor recommended getting a warranty on the appliances that were in an older home that I purchased two years ago. I submit my First American claims over the phone and their reps are very good. Plus, I’ve had good technicians. They take care in explaining the parts and listening to what the issues are. My experience with First American has been well, except for the last one. They faltered in not letting me know that they were disconnecting the sprinkler system until I found out. It wasn't until the third time that they came back and replaced the condenser that they decided to disconnect without saying anything. Other than that, everything else was handled well.

I filed a claim with First American through their automated system by calling their toll-free number. I'm talking to a computer the whole time and that’s probably one of the hardest things to do. It usually takes three tries before they just give you an option of pressing a number instead. They’ll give me some options on whether it's plumbing or appliances. I select which one I need and they set up a claim with the local contractor.

I've only had anything but problems anytime I have to call them when something breaks. My AC has gone out for a second time within a few months of each other and today they hung up on me twice and told my husband and I two different things when we spoke to them on the phone. The first contractor they contacted, no one could even get a hold of him. After that they wouldn't get anyone out here until NEXT WEEK. I have medical conditions and a dog with a thick fur coat. It's over 90 outside and 84 in the house. They refused to find anyone that could come out sooner. After being hung up on multiple times. I am done with these people. I will NOT be renewing my contract with them and will take my business elsewhere.

I bought a home where the previous owner already used First American Home Warranty. On the phone, I looked at a couple of other warranty companies and the prices all seemed the same. I stuck with First American since I already came through with them. When I submit a claim, they’re very fast and I like them. I call them up and let them know what's going on and they look at my warranty to see if it's covered. Then they’d let me know if there is a charge and they’d give me the number of the person that they're sending out as well as contact that person themselves. Once they do all that, the company calls me and schedules the appointment.
The claims reps were always very professional and so far, the technicians that they sent out to me have all been great. But I had one that’s bad and he was on his cellphone and busy having personal calls while working on my stuff. The next time I had an issue, I asked First American to send somebody else out and that’s what they did. Nevertheless, the quality of the work was very good. We're very happy with First American Home Warranty and I plan on keeping them.

First American was part of the contract that came with our house. I've had another home warranty in the past and I like First American better because they use small businesses instead of big ones that do everything. Small businesses are easier to get out and seem more receptive to what I had to say. We've had them for three months now and we've already submitted a claim. I did it online and it was easy. The overall experience has been wonderful.

I’ve interacted with the claims reps a couple of times and they were nice, which only goes so far. Their contractor came out and I already knew what the problem was. It's a warranty water heater and they contacted the manufacturer and said that they’d be giving hold of me within 24 hours. I still haven’t heard anything from them and it's been three days that I don’t have any hot water. I thought that I'd at least get a phone call by yesterday. Now I would have to get my colleague in and see what's going on. I hate to make three phone calls for one situation but I have to. I don’t like bugging people and I pay good money for this service from First American every month. The overall experience with them was pretty good except I still haven’t gotten any satisfaction on my call.

We've always had a home warranty whenever we owned a house. It’s like life insurance or auto insurance. You have to buy insurance if you own a house or a car, or if you get married. We might have had a warranty with First American for our previous house and they were good then. Anyway, we took our friend’s word about First American and got insurance for our current house from them. Submitting a claim with First American wasn’t too difficult. I just called and told them what was going on and they relayed this to the contractor that they picked. The technicians were very good, helpful and friendly. They introduced themselves, looked at things, and explained what they were going to do. Everything has been great with the work done.

Well I have a 2 year old fridge. I have had First American the whole time I have had it. In July it broke. I called First American and they sent Sears out. Sears said it needed a new compressor. Then the next time they came out they said, "No you need a whole new fridge." First American then said they need a second opinion. The second opinion told them the fridge needed replaced but the parts are under a manufacturer's warranty. First American tells me now that since the parts are under warranty I need to go through Kenmore.
Kenmore me no and that I have to go through First American. I called First American again and they said that they will not replace the fridge because of the manufacture warranty. But I asked, "Well you are supposed to cover labor and the warranty only covers parts." They said that's not their problem. If this is true why would First American allow me to pay for them to come out and why do I have coverage on a fridge that they won't cover. I feel totally taken advantage of by my home warranty.

I am blown away by all the positive reviews... They MUST be paid reviews by First American. My experience so far has been absolutely horrible. From what they're willing to repair to the terrible attitude of the claims person and her supervisor telling me that she is the highest level I could speak to within the entire company. I have a 20 year old refrigerator that is on the verge of dying - nothing works (from the refrigerator stuck on freezing temperature, ice maker, ice and water dispenser not working, and the incredible noise it makes). They refuse to fix anything except the temperature sensor. They sent 2 incompetent contractors who fix appliances on the side (they have full time jobs). It's been over a month since the problem was reported and nothing has been fixed. Other insurance companies would have replaced the refrigerator.

Every time I call I get someone who barely speaks English and goes out of their way to make the claim difficult. With almost every claim I have submitted, the first contractor that is assigned to my claim has not been capable/willing to perform the work needed. With one exception every claim has required at least 2 separate appointments and 2 different contractors to come out and get my claim resolved. The only way anything gets resolved is when an adjuster in the United States is assigned the claim, even getting that done is like pulling teeth. Most recently I had "Karla at ext. **" assigned to my claim. I left her a message on 9-12-17 and without a return phone call she closed out my claim. I have attempted to contact her 2 more times, and have still not received a phone call back. I am currently waiting for a phone call back from her supervisor.

He would be here in a week, they would contact me for an appointment. After several days I finally hear from the servicing company and the user setting the appointment sound like she is talking into a poor speakerphone. Finally an appointment, The day arrives for my appointment, between 11 and 2. I receive a call around 2:30 explaining the technician had a flat tire and he will be "a little late" he arrives at 7 pm. After 45 minutes he determines it is a Thermal fuse for the dryer. He explains my machine is a "crappy Korean made machine" and he does not carry the part. He will need to order the part. While he is describing the part I find it online and could of had the part in hand by Monday, it was less than $15.
The technician scribbles what he has done and explained I need to sign and give him a check for $75. The technician leaves and I never hear from him again. Finally a week later I call the fine people at First American expecting some assistance, RECEIVED NONE! I was informed the part was scheduled to arrive on Friday. Now it is Monday. The issue has been on going for 17 days. I have called the service company and never receive a call back. I have contacted the Warranty company and the claim was escalated to a "Specialist". The "specialist" called and left a message, that they contacted the Servicer and has not had a response.
I have called and talk with several people and am unable to get any assistance. Save your money DO not pay these clowns anything. So after I finally get someone to answer me they say "Well, we can wait on this technician or we can have a new company contact you!" I asked if the warranty covers it and the lady told me there was no problem. But when the technicians came, they told me the warranty doesn't cover the issue. They didn't tell me that and then they were supposed to give me my $75 back. Otherwise, filing a claim with them is easy. All the other times were fine too. The technicians came in, did the work and got it down.
