    This is the worse renters insurance you could get. They don’t want to pay claims, even when you submit everything they required to pay. I had feedback from others people about dealing with renters insurance and it was not that difficult. I sent proof of my lose and receipt and I was fully honest and they pay a third of my new laptop bought a year and a half ago. They make it to difficult for you to drop the claim. Not good!

    Fraud Company. Please stay away from it. They will make every effort to not pay you. They will not pick you call. They will close your claim without any resolution. They will ghost you. Waste of time and energy.

    I cannot being to express how disappointing my experience has been with Assurant. Despite holding renters insurance with Assurant for many years the one time I need them they have been cold, and unresponsive. A little over 2 weeks ago there was a water line break that caused water to pour into my apartment, ruining most of my belongings. It must have started early in the day because by the time I got home there were already parts of my ceiling on the ground. I have invested in nice items in my home and have provided ample documentation, video, pictures, and receipts.

    I am lucky my landlords and their insurance have been far more responsive, within 3 hours of finding the damage my landlords had SERVPRO in the space with fans mitigating further damage as much as they could. I put in my claim and was connected with my adjuster quickly, giving me hope this wouldn't result in such a terrible process. ServPro provided a quote to remove, clean, store, and return my items (a responsibility of Assurant) but despite them sending emails and leaving voicemails we have never gotten a response to this.

    I similarly got a quote from RestorTech who sent along the quote and left a voicemail for my adjuster, again nothing. I should note that professionals from both of these services have been shocked at the lack of help and responsiveness from Assurant, noting that they were putting my salvageable items in harms way as the entire home was affected. I have also offered to find independent contractors to assist in an effort to move the process quicker.

    With no response, I have been forced to pay out of pocket for individuals to help with the pack up of several areas as to not impede the progress of ServPro removing all the affected areas. I have also had to use PTO to continue packing items. My landlords insurance has already approved the repairs and cut them a check, at this time my salvaged belongings have been in my sons room as it was the one space that did not need walls removed (though all floors were removed) and I will need to move all items out so that repairs can begin. Despite both my adjusters and her supervisors voicemails claiming that calls after 4pm will be returned by 10am the next day, I have never received this courtesy. I have sent email after email without any response.

    I understand these things take time, I did not expect to have full answers at this time, but the lack of communication and guidance has left me at a loss particularly as their lack of communication has already resulted in delays in repairs. I have over 30k in items damaged/ruined and need to be able to start rebuilding my life. I am a single mom with 2 dogs (which they are aware), and despite Assurant being responsible for providing housing and boarding I have not taken advantage of this as I have other options with friends and family, so I am obviously not looking to nickel and dime them.

    The damage to my home and personal belongings and being displaced is traumatic enough, the amount of time I am now having to spend just with outreach is making a sad and stressful situation even worse. The last I was able to speak to my adjuster was last Tuesday when I just happened to get her on the phone after numerous calls, (both I and ServPro had left voicemails the previous week with no response) during this time she said "I am going to be honest. I don't have time to look at your claim today". She noted needing to catch up from the weekend and that I am not her only claim.

    While I understand this, the callous response did not give me any trust in the system, as she has already been not forthcoming about my coverage or helpful in providing updates or guidance on navigating things. It is also not very reassuring to hear the person in charge of helping you and moving the process along "doesn't have time" as I am left without a home or belongings.

    As I read reviews and others complaints online I become more and more fearful as people mention months or even years that it takes for them to resolve things with Assurant. I no longer have a safe place for my son, I do not have months to wait to put our lives back together. I feel I will also be in a position in which my home is repaired and I do not have belongings or even a bed to move back in. I cannot afford to replace items and simply trust Assurant will do the right thing. Doing the responsible thing in getting renters insurance (and staying on top of my coverage to ensure I am properly covered) has not benefited me in an incredible time of need. The only reason I have Assurant is because I have GEICO, I hope they reevaluate who they work with in the future.

    ⭐☆☆☆☆ One Star – Consumers Beware. Dealing with Assurant has been one of the most frustrating experiences I’ve ever had. After paying for renters insurance that is supposed to protect me, I filed a claim and was given a lowball settlement with no real explanation. I have called and called for weeks, asking to speak with a manager and my calls go unanswered. It feels like once they offer you an amount, they disappear and hope you’ll just accept it.

    Consumers are required to carry this insurance, yet when it comes time for Assurant to actually stand behind their policy, they dodge accountability. This company takes premiums faithfully but fails miserably at treating customers with fairness, respect, and transparency. I will be filing a formal complaint with my state’s Insurance Administration, and I strongly urge others to think twice before trusting Assurant with their coverage. Protect yourself — because Assurant won’t.

    My insurance adjuster is Logan **. I have tried to contact her numerous times. Constantly sending in the same documents she ask. I'm simply complying. I had a vandalism to my home back in June. Submitted all the paperwork and no response. Received a email back in August stating the determination will take 7-14 business days. Rather text than talk. Her supervisor never returns my calls. It's overwhelming to left on the back burner.

    I never had to go through this situation and being I work for a insurance company, I take full responsibility of my position and stay in contact w my members and good at following up as well. It's making me feel uneasy about who I choose for my insurance carrier and thinking on considering a change before my next premium payment comes out. It's not professional when lack of communication is given and unorganized. Constantly asking for paperwork I already submitted prior. I hate I even had to come on here to do this. But I am lost without anything at this moment.

    My experience has been extremely disappointing. My apartment was broken into....thousands upon thousands of dollars of my belongings were stolen. I am being treated like a fraud. They are denying my claim and are indirectly implying my claim is frivolous. My uncle and I were wrongfully thrown out because we got broke into and the apartment complex refused to pay for repairs. They billed us for the repairs.

    I deserve to have my claim paid. We no longer live there and I'm still paying on the policy just so there are no complications with the claim. This is not right to treat people this way....especially paying customers. We have now had to file with the DOI and now have to shell out money on an attorney. Avoid this insurance company at all costs.

    When I moved to a 14 story high rise apt bldg 3 years ago in downtown St Petersburg Florida, I knew that getting Renters Insurance should be the first thing I do. Plus I have had my car insured with GEICO for several years. Great customer service and great prices. My entire county is considered a "flood zone" but my immediate area is "low flood zone/ non evacuation zone". That doesn't comfort me at all. My furniture and art mean everything to me.     I’m extremely disappointed with my experience with Assurant. I filed a renters insurance claim after my car was broken into—already a frustrating and stressful situation. I submitted all requested documents to the adjuster assigned to my claim, Trianna M., and was expecting clear follow-through. Instead, without any phone call or explanation, she closed my claim. Her lack of communication and dismissive attitude were completely unprofessional. I reached back out to Assurant to get the claim reopened and was told someone would contact me within 48 hours. That never happened.

    I’m now left without any support or resolution. As a business owner, I understand the importance of customer service, and this has been unacceptable. If you’re considering Assurant for renters insurance, I strongly urge you to look elsewhere. It is nearly impossible to get a hold of your claims adjuster, and the overall service has been nothing short of terrible.

Assurant seems to be more familiar with the Apartment Buildings in Florida in terms of their Construction, and date built. When they are not sure, they will ask for a photo.     Worst customer service on phone and chat, won’t respond to emails…. After you cancel policy they will talk.. what a bunch of bums. I cancelled my policy and they didn’t cancel until the next day, ridiculous, called back twice, customer service very bad…. Overseas customer service.. 🤣🤡🤡🤡 finally cancelled my policy…. Charged me $51 for 2 months, cancels my payment, refunds my $51, 1 month later I get a email for a payment of $68…. Ridiculous, emailed the 7 times no response… finally cancelled my insurance, so I thought I cancelled, and they charge me $68 the next day, called in to complained, they said we never cancelled your policy, finally send me a email saying policy cancelled…. Spoke to a lady in Florida about my policy 2 months ago, she had a bad attitude… didn’t get her coffee that morning m, most of their customer service, in the Philippines or Latin America… no English speaking customer service…

    Assurant has taken an already stressful situation and made it even worse. Long story short my home flooded due to a busted pipe on Feb 20 which caused my family to have to live in a hotel. Per my insurance policy I am to be reimbursed for food/hotel. I've only received two reimbursements to date...it is now March 19th. I've submitted everything I was required to submit. We are still living in a hotel and have not received ANY updates on anything! Their customer service is nonexistent—they do not respond to texts, emails, or voicemails. You are left dealing with automated systems that provide no real assistance and no guidance on what steps to take.

    Unfortunately, because I have "insurance" I can't get any help for food/lodging from local resources. What is the point of having insurance if they refuse to uphold their end of the agreement? I only have Assurant Rental insurance because of Geico. Geico needs to reconsider being affiliated with this company in any way. I did a little research and there are so many people dealing with the same thing from this company. Some folks have been dealing with it going on a year now. If you are considering Assurant for rental insurance, I strongly advise looking elsewhere.

    I have been in contact with them since October 3. I have had 3 separate adjustors and only ever spoken to 1. When I filed my claim I hadn't heard from anyone in a month. When they switched me to a new adjustor Elizabeth it would take over a week to get a response if not 3 weeks. I was supposed to receive a check for $3000 for hotel and food while I was unable to even enter my own apartment. She only gave me a check for 1803 because of hotel and nothing more. I was told by Elizabeth she would review my receipts and raise the balance of the check to 3000 however she sent the check to the apartment anyways and I never received it. It was mailed December 12th and it is now January 20th.

    I was emailing, calling, and texting Elizabeth everyday the entire time and never got word back until January 3rd and it was an automated message saying they were closed for New Year's Day which it was 2 days after and that Elizabeth was no longer my adjustor. It was someone named Marquita. I have left multiple voicemails for her and her supervisor since then and still in the 17 days of attempting not reached out.

    This morning I started calling at 8am when they opened. I was put on hold for 15 minutes and then hung up on, had a gentleman tell me he would text and call adjustors until one responded and he sent me to one who did not pick up, then I was on the phone with a woman who gave me an attitude because the building was closed for the holiday today and no adjustors are even in the office so my calling for an hour and 20 minutes was for nothing because every representative had not told me the adjustors were off. I have done my due diligence and it has been for nothing so I would just like the check I was told and be done with this company for good. I have nowhere to live and enough on my plate than to have to deal with this any longer.

    My upstairs neighbor started a fire in their apartment and the sprinklers went off and flooded my apartment. It was horrible. My daughter and I are displaced for a few weeks while my apartment is being repaired. My neighbor upstairs has State Farm and I have Assurant. I was given the run around just to file a claim. The link they sent me to fill out didn’t work. I can’t get into my apartment so they say when I do take pictures of my damages. Any appliance that is damaged has to go to a repair shop and I must receive a slip stating the appliance is irreparable. Doesn’t matter that they were flooded with water. It’s not free to take to repair shop so I must pay and then they’ll reimburse me afterwards. I’m staying in a hotel and they would not pay for me to stay in a hotel. I had to pay for the hotel send them the receipt and then they paid me back. I had to borrow money to pay for the hotel.

    Be aware you have to pay for everything and anything you may need including groceries and they will pay you back. So on top of being displaced, I also had to pay upfront before I could get any help from Assurant. Meanwhile, my neighbor who has State Farm was issued a check for hotel stay, groceries and incidentals. Her insurance even called me to offer assistance should I need it when I am able to go back in my apartment. Big name insurance companies may charge more but they come through during a tragic event; it’s worth the money. I was so disappointed in Assurant and I have learned my lesson.

    Let’s see. After hurricane Helene we claimed a loss due to of power and food loss. We were first told someone would call us within 72 hours to discuss our claim. After 96 hours we call back and was told someone would call us within 48 hours. 72 hours later we call again only to be told that nobody would call us and that we we'll eventually get an email. Basically given the runaround meaning they scammed us for a monthly payment. Don’t walk. Run away from this company.

    I received a Notice of Cancellation of our policy AFTER my check was cashed. It was Saturday so I could not call to see what happened.     I am concerned that my policy explicitly states it doesn't cover damages from floods. It is well known that the complex I'm living in, Eatoncrest Apartments, can have major flooding in the Spring and Summer months from heavy rains.     Customer service was top tier. As soon as my claim was processed, I was contacted and connected with my adjuster. He called within the next 24-48 hours to get more details about my claim. He wasn’t able to talk to me because I was at work. He left a voice message and sent me an email to update me on the process. Once I submitted all requested documents I had my payout within a couple of days. Thank you.
