What is Assurant Phone Insurance?

Assurant Phone Insurance helps customers protect their cell phones. A manufacturer’s warranty usually only covers hardware malfunctions and manufacturer defects, and they typically only last for the first year of your device’s life. If anything happens outside of those issues or that time frame, your warranty won’t help you.

Assurant offers protection plans that cover a variety of potential situations. This includes incidents like theft or loss, issues like water damage or cracks and hardware issues. This coverage provides financial protection if something happens to your phone, which is crucial as cellphones become more expensive.

Assurant is not available to purchase on its own. The company’s insurance plans are only available through the mobile carriers it’s partnered with. Contact your provider to ask about availability and learn about plans and pricing.

Assurant plans

Nearly a dozen carriers work with Assurant, and each has its own Assurant plans and offerings. For example, Xfinity has one plan for iPhone users and another for Android users. T-Mobile, on the other hand, has basic and 360-degree plans that cover both iPhone and Android.

A basic plan covers hardware issues once the manufacturer warranty expires. It also covers accidental damage, loss or theft. Some providers may require a deductible or service fee for specific repairs. Advanced coverage includes AppleCare services (for Apple devices) and tech support, such as Tech PHD or Pocket Geek.

    5-star results (full trade-in value + $5). 1-star automatic status communication (No automatic communication or status update from Assurant after I shipped my phone via UPS). 5-star Customer Service (after contacting Assurant regarding my phone status). Recommended service improvements:

    1. Provide customers with automatic status update after the phone is received by Assurant by the shipper. Remind customers that processing may require up to 10 business days.

    2. Instruct customers on how to properly video/photo/snapshot their phone condition prior to shipping, to avoid disagreements about phone condition and assessed trade-in value.

    3. After the phone is processed, please let the customer know what will happen to their PERSONAL phone in the future (recycled for materials or repackaged/shipped/resold for developing countries/continents?)

      I had an extremely positive experience getting my phone screen fixed. It was super quick. Insurance company was so helpful as well as the people helping me at the screen repair store. It was close to home and they were able to schedule my appointment for drop off within the hour of doing so. Was fixed super fast and they notified me promptly it was ready for pickup. I really appreciate all of the help from Xfinity, Assurant as well as from the Batteries Plus workers who serviced my phone for repair. We had a minor confusion with my iCloud account, but it was nobody’s fault-just a little glitch that didn’t last long and fixed itself once we tried it again. No incentive was given for this review. Just the incentive to give a positive review where positive feedback is deserved. Thank you again!

      Surprisingly for my 1st time using insurance for a cellular phone/device, the wait although took a little longer than I had initially thought wasn't too long, maybe 1, 2 weeks max for the replacement device and as I use my phone for work, daily communication, and side jobs etc, this wasn't too long of a wait overall to be honest. It was definitely worth the $99-100 replacement cost/insurance payment especially considering the alternative of $200 or so to pay off the device through the local Xfinity store. Shipping the old device after transferring data and doing a factory reset on it was helpful because I forgot they paid for the return label which made the process easier. For this service in particular I would actually highly recommend it especially with the price I personally pay being $6/mo for each of both phones on top of the $60/mo phone plan really isn't too bad all things considered where we are.       I had my cellphone slip out of my hand and chipped my screen making it hard to use. I use my cellphone for everything to include my business, so it is critical for me to have a fully functioning cellphone because my business and income depend on it. My claims experience with Assurant was awesome. The website was easy to use. It had several locations and times for me to pick from to repair the screen on my cellphone. I chose Batteries Plus in Tampa for a same day repair. I submitted my claim only at 6 p.m. on a Friday night and I was in the repair shop at 7 p.m. to get the repair done.

      It only took Evan less than 40 minutes to replace my screen. The new screen is better than the factory original. Evan was courteous, professional, and helpful. I really think he takes pride in his work because his store is clean and very well organized. Plus, he took time to explain everything he did. The repair shop was easy to find and see from the road. It is on street level and has plenty of parking.

      I've paid my monthly fee with Assurant for years. Finally had to file a claim, paid my deductible, was sent a refurbished device, I followed their instructions for return and dropped the broken phone off with USPS to be shipped back to them. Now 3 months later they are claiming they never received the device and are charging me a large fee for the device even though I did everything I was supposed to do on my side. I've tried to work this out with them, and requested they alter the claim to a missing phone claim, since they also cover missing phones, and they refuse. Feels like a scam, pay for insurance in case your phone breaks, but when you have to use it they still charge you full price and will not work with you at all even though all their instructions were followed for return. Horrible company, horrible experience.

      I would be very wary of buying phone insurance through Assurant. My son lost his phone 6 days ago. I filed a lost phone claim through their app, and it required a verification text be sent, but was trying to send the text to the lost phone. Obviously that would not work since we did not have access to it because it was lost. I changed the contact number to my number, not realizing this was changing which phone the claim was being filed on. The app did not make it clear, but that was my mistake. My phone, which was still in my possession, was blocked the next day which was a Sunday. I realized what was going on and by Monday had canceled the claim and requested my phone be unblocked. I was told that the unblock request was processed and my phone would be unblocked and usable within 24 hours. It wasn't.

      I called the next evening to find out what the status was and was told it was still blocked, but would be unblocked by the next evening. It wasn't. I did not call the next day because I needed a break from dealing with their extremely rude and unhelpful "customer service" representatives. By the fifth day of my phone not working, I called again since it had definitely been 2-3 business days since the unblock request was submitted and there should be no reason why it was still blocked. The replacement device also arrived via UPS that day and I refused delivery as I was told to do.

      When I spoke to the Assurant representative, she told me that the unblock requests that were submitted before basically didn't matter because nothing would be processed until they received the replacement device back (I was previously told that would not be the case), and that I might have troubles even with that because I should not have actually refused the delivery, but should have accepted delivery and then sent it back via USPS. I then talked to another Assurant rep later in the day who told me that my phone would be unblocked by the end of the day. It was not. Then today, I had a supervisor from Assurant call me to tell my that the phone was unblocked so I should just need to turn the phone off and back on and it should connect to the network. That did not work.

      I called my carrier to troubleshoot the problem and they said it was still locked by Assurant. We called Assurant to find out what was going on and after being hung up on by 3 separate Assurant representatives, the rep we finally spoke with said that there was no unblock order previously submitted and it was just submitted today and I would have to wait another 2-3 business days until my phone was unblocked. Today is day six of the phone being blocked with no end in sight. I've been told so much contradicting information and do not trust this company and will be canceling our policies on all 9 lines on our plan. This is one of the worst experiences I've had with a company.

      I have had insurance for my son's phone for up to 5 years, paid it on time, and it shows on the bill, and when I filed the claim after T-Mobile bought US Cellular. I was told that his phone had been retired. Now, when I try to get a replacement, I’ve been dealing with them for over 12 days, and they constantly tell me they can’t find it or that when they do find it, it’s under review terrible customer service. I cannot track it on their website because it keeps telling me there’s no such number with a claim on it. I’ve had to call the 866 number at least seven or eight times, spoke to two managers who had to do a three-way call with US Cellular to find a way to get in to my account, and now I’m told that it’s under review again, and my son has been without this phone for this long.

      I highly recommend Assurant Insurance for your mobile device. This has been the worst year for me with phones. I had a screen replaced and now a lost phone. They fixed both fast and easy.       I've been a long time customer with Tmobile. Hel my insurance since the note 8 ultra. 10 years strong. Never missed a payment. Their new AI system is shit. I finally got through after going into Tmobile & got hung up on. After 2 hours in store, I got told my claim was under review. It was gonna be 5 days till they give me an answer. Just got told today they're not covering it. I have 360 coverage. Never missed a payment. This company has went downhill the last 4 years. I have 2 hours of calls recorded of them telling me I'm not covered, but I have the coverage & it's always been paid. There's a photo of the back. I'm not pulling the front off for fear it'll get worse.
