Whirlpool Cabrio HE washing machine - I was very excited when buying this product. It never really washed clothes thoroughly. I kept getting strange stains on them and even after emptying it as soon as it finally was able to finish a load without saying UL constantly... the clothes would stink. I'm sick I ever bought it! Plus, it rusts terrible.

Called 8/24/15 - spoke with representative about our two year old washer. Nothing Whirlpool can or will do.They have no other complaints about rust inside the lid and inside rim at bleach dispenser nor chipping of paint from lid. When asking the Whirlpool representative about the rust, he assured us there were no other complaints. This is hard to believe since our recent research clearly shows that other brands have had to replace tops due to rust. As for clothes not cleaning, no response to this issue. Whirlpool has not trained salespersons and therefore at the mercy of Lowe's hard sales tactics and we were very delinquent in researching numerous complaints before purchasing Whirlpool Cabrio Platinum Model WTW8240YWD - Ranked lowest possible from ConsumerAffairs with hundreds of complaints.

Whirlpool should be ashamed of product - clothes do not come clean, there is no soak cycle, no way to open mid cycle without losing all water, washer smells horribly, must be cleaned - are you kidding? Who cleans the washer that is supposed to clean clothes with a special cleaner?? We understand safety issues of water in open machine, wonder if Whirlpool understands the need to have a 'soak' feature to clean clothes.

Undereducated buyers like us and the totally undereducated salesperson at Lowe's were obviously a horrible combination. It was all about sales for them. No one mentioned and we had no clue that the huge drum would not clean clothes even using less water than a traditional machine. We thought 'platinum' meant a high quality machine. It clearly was a cleverly used buzz word for sales not a premier cleaning machine. Never, never, never purchasing Whirpool anything again. Wonder if Whirlpool cares, if they read the ConsumerAffairs reports, if they respond. Our hard-earned money is wasted. Our clothes are dirty, the washer smells, and the top is rusting out!

My husband and I, purchased this washer on November last year, I used twice before and I noticed that the clothes felt hot, but the cycle was COLD water. Now use it again until June 2015. In every cycle the clothes were hot, I started calling to get an appointment in June at the 1800-253-1301, but the system was down twice. Then in July then again the system was down, then August 10, system was down. I did not wait more and called back the next day, August 11, got appointment for the 20. A technician came, he told me that the hoses was switched, but I know the hoses was installed correctly, my husband was here at the installation. He knows the proper installation of the washers.

I purchased this washing machine December 16, 2011. I paid $737.07 for this machine. 14 months later I had to repair the top of it which cost me $255 for the lid which the plastic around the lid was cracked. I had to pay $136 installation fee and two years later the exact same thing happened again, the plastic cracked. I have contacted Whirlpool which took a complaint - said that was all they could do. I've contacted the store where I purchased it, they can do nothing. I read online there are many complaints about the lid on this washing machine. It should've been a recall. I will never purchase a Whirlpool product again. I will not pay to have it repaired again. I will give it away and purchase something else not whirlpool and not from Lowe's. I expected some kind of compensation from whirlpool on this. I have all my receipts.

Have had this washer for one year. Clothes have never been clean since day one. Dark clothes come out with white marks all over. Having to use an extra rinse cycle or set on bulky items - what's the point of a high efficiency appliance? Still not clean after that anyways. Stains such as chocolate and toothpaste still remain after washing and my husband complains of finding small holes in his clothes. Lid needs to be left open at all times or you get a funky smell. I am using the HE liquid detergent, even tried a cold water product for cold washes. I hate this washer. Wish I had my 20 year old Kenmore still.

Finally, machine could not work as far as warranty was expired. The Sears technician made very quick overlook and told that probably engine was gone and advised to buy a new machine, as repairing parts are not available in Canada. He charged me 96 dollars for that.

I don't recommend this product to anyone. When you try to clean the washer it leaks out the bottom. After 2 years of use it now beeps 9 - 10 times and I have to reset it after each beep to get it to run. Then in the middle of the rinse cycle it does the same thing all over again. What a piece of junk. Plus it does not rinse well at all. Leaves a white residue on my blankets. NOT recommended at all.

Rust around the inside of the top of the washer. They do not use stainless for this part of the washer. It is some sort of cheap tin material that will rust in less than the first year. They have gone cheap on building but still think their products are worth the expensive price they ask. Do yourself a favor, pop the lid and look under what they do best to hide and also they removed the pop down door on the dryers so you cannot vacuum out the excess lint build up. Tragic lint gets hot and starts to burn in the gas models and stink. They should be ashamed of themselves. They have bought up most of their competition and now they have gone cheap on product production but not on price.

If you are considering a Cabrio washing machine, save yourself the aggravation and buy something else. I purchased a Cabrio model WTW5640X from Lowe's 2 years ago. It has been one disappointment after another. First, the clothes were coming out really wrinkled and not fully rinsed. I now routinely use the extra rinse cycle. I also started washing very small loads with hardly any soap (and yes, I use the HE detergent). That works for me, but it's not practical for a household of more than 2.

This machine is also not for anyone with kids or who expects to remove routine soils. It doesn't clean well. White socks start looking dingy after a few washes, and even the hot cycle with bleach doesn't get whites white. Now, the washer has started shutting off with the clothes still soaking wet. I can press the Drain & Spin cycle to get it finish the job, but that adds another 13 minutes to the 63 minutes it already takes for a regular cycle with the extra rinse. I so wish I had not replaced my 15 year old Kenmore.

Bought this model from Bad Boy in 2006 and just after the warranty ended the problems began. We kept getting the F1 error code so with a little internet research we found it was a known problem with Whirlpool. I contacted them and was told they knew nothing about this issue being nationwide, however I emailed them copies of the complaints and responses. They sent out a technician who had to replace the motherboard free of charge. Next issue was a loud noise coming from washer sounding like a jet plane taking off. Hubby ripped machine apart to find the bearings blown apart and in tiny pieces. We ordered new ones and also found that when the new ones arrived they came with a tube of grease and a sealer to use so water would not get in later and cause more problems. Funny there was no sealer on the original bearings.

Next the lid lock finally failed, ordered a new one but did NOT install it back into the machine, now it sits beside the machine. In case it fails again we will have total access to the laundry this time. Finally the UL error code keeps coming up. I refuse to put any more money into this machine again so I am allowing hubby to fix it if he chooses, whichever way he wants as long as no money is involved. So right now we have bungee cords holding the suspension rods tight to help with the uneven load code coming up all the time. Personal thoughts - DO NOT BUY WHIRLPOOL washer/dryers. They are crap and the company just does not care and they try to lie their way out of repairs if people have not done their homework.

A call to Whirlpool resulted in a quote for circa $350 for a service call. That's a 1/3rd of the original value (includes a 12 month warranty). And it's just over a year old!!! We had a problem with the Maytag Neptune that ended in a class action suit and now this replacement machine seems to be even worse. I purchased the Cabrio washer and dryer and paid for the extended warranty from Lowe's about 5 years ago. After about a year, the washer had problems with excessive vibration and noise. Under Lowe's warranty, a repairman came and adjusted the level. He came out several more times and made other adjustments, replaced the drum, then bearings and raised the level again. He said he could not declare the washer a lemon, even though it was because they were told this was taboo. They were instructed to do whatever they could to keep the washer going throughout the life of the warranty. Now the washer stops mid-cycle and an fl or f1 error code appears on the control board. I contacted Customer Service who said I can purchase another extended warranty for over $300 or pay their repairman for the visit including parts and labor. What I paid for the extended warranty and to purchase a new one would pay for a new washer.

Secondly the "Normal" setting will not allow you to spin on low, your choice is high or no spin. High tangles your pants, slacks, shirts, etc. No spin leaves them soaking wet. Also it's a water safer but never, never, never covers the clothes in water, and sometimes they don't come out smelling so clean. I don't save water if I have to rewash two or three times. Absolutely hate this washing machine. When I get enough money I am going back to the old agitator model and not any Whirlpool either. To start off, with this problem, it is causing me more water, and electricity that should not have to be wasted if the machine worked properly. I called the place where I got the machine, and was told to give Whirlpool a call. I did this, and was told that there was nothing that could be done, and if I would like to schedule an appointment for a tech to come out and work on it, they could do that. I did not have any problems (wash 3-4 loads/week), pleased with the washing until July 2015 when the machine was spinning out of control and the machine moved approx. 1 foot across the floor (thank goodness I did not have it on a pedestal as it may have tipped over). I canceled the run. This was a fine washables load of 5 sweaters placed on a medium spin.

Scheduled the Whirlpool authorized service tech to come out and fix. He indicated there is extensive repair required and would cost approx. $1800. And indicated he has seen this failure before and it is due to the plastic parts inside. Also, he has seen these washers last about 5-7 years before replacement. Wow, last washer I had was a Maytag and it lasted 15 years costing 1/3 the price of the Whirlpool Duet. Now perplexed on what to buy, called Whirlpool Customer Experience Center to register my complaint and asked if there were any updates to the product that would avoid this failure. By doing thorough research on this issue I can see the problem is in a "known defective" control board (part #W10130544). This part has even been replaced by Whirlpool with a new control board costing around $300 for just the part. After calling for repair service, two people (1 agent and 1 supervisor) refused to acknowledge any known issues with this part and further refused to any type of repair or replacement of the part. It is impossible for anyone in that position to not have knowledge of this problem. Simply look on the internet for a countless number of people with this very same complaint.

Even though my washer is eight years old it has had very little use. There are only two grown adults in this household and the machine has never been abused or overused. It still looks new. It leaks out the front of the front loading door (yes, I clean it as advised, including leaving door open to air dry etc). I am a retired senior citizen and my wife and I spend 6 months of the year in Florida so the washer has barely been used since we are barely home and it's not like we are trying to wash load after load of heavily soiled items daily. I would not recommend this product at all!! The repair people said it would cost approximately $300 to fix and offered a plan to fix it for $350 with a 1 year warranty. Why should I bother to do either if I will have to do same after 1 year? This machine is barely used and broke?!

The customer service people were not helpful and seemed only interested selling me the repair plan to fix what should not need fixing. So, to recap - I bought the machine in 9/13 then went to Florida from 10/13 to 4/14 (so it was used 1 month). Then, it was used from 4/14 until 10/14 (6 months). I returned from Florida this year in April 2015 and it started leaking in June 2015 (2 months). So, my machine has been used for a grand total of 9 months and it is already broken!!! Stay far away. Whirlpool should come and replace this machine for us for free if they care anything about customer service and senior citizens but clearly they do not. I bought a commercial coin operator washer (Whirlpool washer model CAE2743BQ) for $800 and after using it for 4 months the washer stop working. The main board panel lights turned all and the washer did not start. Called Whirlpool several times and nobody could help me and told me to look online for a distribution center to get parts. The customer service only knew about regular washers not coin operator. The washer had only 3 months warranty from Home Depot and I was supposed to pay for all the repairs and Whirlpool would pay for parts.

So far I spend $400 in repairs and the certified technicians could not repair the washer. They replaced the actuator shift, the main board etc, etc and nothing. The technicians reset the washer at least 10 times, calling Whirlpool tech support and the washer worked for one load and the main board lights stayed on all over again, the start button did not work. I sent a letter to the warranty department that I got online and they told me to call the same 1800 that I had called at least 50 times in the past year. Now it has been more than one year and the machine is defective. Technician said could be the soap that my tenants are using, or overloading the washer or an electric problem that they cannot identify. I gave up... I will not buy a coin operator heavy duty washer from them again. I requested a return authorization for a defective product and I did not get anywhere. Thanks.

This machine (WTW8040DW) has been a problem from the start. The loads, especially towels, sheets, and jeans, never stop cycling between rinse and spin. Keeps cycling from 18 down to 12 back up to 18 minutes to go etc. I guess the load may be out of balance but there is no indicator of an out of balance load. For a high-efficiency model, we waste more water than our previous machine and never had this kind of problem. We let a load of sheets run for 3 hours just to see how long it would take... and I suspect it would still be running if we didn't stop it and try to re-balance it. Had to do that 3 times before it would actually spin out correctly. Whirlpool should get it together and make a model that just works. Too much reliance on the computer and all the sensors and just plain doesn't work.

During our first year the machine worked OK, but three months after warranty expiration (12 month warranty), the sensors seems to go wonky and it no longer worked (at 15 months of age). We paid about $95 in the Minneapolis area for a service call. The repairman had to call Whirlpool from our home to inquire about the sequence of flashing lights on the sensor. After getting off the phone he told us he thought he knew the problem, but could not guarantee that the $200+ part he suggested ordering would solve the problem. The installation would require additional labor charges, of course.

I reported the incident to the manager of the repair service and was told the repairman was expert in Whirlpools but this did not further inspire confidence. We were not willing to sink this amount into the machine, so ditched it and bought a top-loading inexpensive Roeper. The top-loading machine definitely appears harder on the clothes than the front loading Whirlpool, but it gets the clothes cleaner and has been problem-free so far.

We purchased a Whirlpool Cabrio about 3 years ago. Have never really like it. It doesn't add enough water to the wash cycle unless you use the "bulky" setting, which fills the tub up the entire way, so wastes water. It would have been nice to choose your water level like you could on the old machines. Now it won't drain completely and won't spin totally. I've tried using the drain/spin cycle 2-3 times extra and it still won't spin all the water out. I've noticed that there is still water in the drum, you can hear it slosh when you move the drum, so I wonder - has anyone ever been told there is a filter in there somewhere that might be clogged keeping it from draining completely?

My husband thinks that maybe all the water in the bottom of the drum is not letting it spin because it's throwing it off balance. And yes, it stops before the cycle is complete and just sits there and blinks and you have to unplug it to clear the cycle. What a pain. We will never again buy a Whirlpool and I absolutely do not recommend Whirlpool washers. I have a Maytag as well and have not yet had problems with it. Bought it at the same time we bought the Cabrio (2 households). At least the water levels in the Maytag are a little more normal. You can wash more than 1 pair of jeans and get them clean in the Maytag. For those of you with the problem of the clothes not smelling clean - try running the clean cycle with a cup of bleach about once a week. No clothes in it - just a cup of bleach in the bleach dispenser and nothing else. Works for us.

I unplugged / plugged in the machine, took off the top & checked connections, and let it sit overnight. I could not get it working. Speaking to a local repair technician via phone, he indicated it is likely the control board. Whirlpool changed that part from part number W10406632 to part number W10427967. My sister needed a new washer and after telling her the problems with the Whirlpool; she purchased an LG. I have told many people that have purchased an agitator free machine to stock up on Affresh or one of the other tub cleaners... you need them to keep the odor from getting into your "clean?" clothes. I cannot wait to sell this washer or give it away!!

On the 18th I called to confirm a time and the company that whirlpool subcontracts in San Antonio, said they had no appointment for that day and the soonest they could get out here was June 1. I contacted Whirlpool to let them know this wasn't acceptable and I received many apologies and "I understand how you feels". I asked how is it you have one company in all of San Antonio to service our dryer? Again more apologies. Then I asked since when does only apologizing and saying, "I understand your feeling", be the end all of your customer service? This washer is going back. It simply will not spin the water out of the clothes. It says it gets clothes drier than a conventional washer, but I have not found that to be true. I have to use the drain/spin cycle over and over and still the clothes are wet. I had the repair crew out and they were able to get it to spin out a very small load consisting of two sheets and two towels. Other than that, it does not spin out water.

It is also very difficult to load if you attempt to leave the center open as they recommend. The cycles are very long. Not being able to look inside without pausing it and waiting for it to unlock is also a huge hassle. I am getting one with a glass top so I can see what is going on. If you leave it open for too long, it cancels the cycle and drains all the water, and you have to start over which is another problem because all your detergent just got drained out before the load gets going. It uses so little water on most of the cycles that the clothes get totally tangled up with one another. I think you should be able to choose the water level manually. I am all for saving water but if I want more water from time to time, this does not allow you to do that. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!

We have had a Whirlpool dishwasher for about 2.5 years and have been happy with how it cleans dishes. About a year ago we replaced our counter top and in the process had to adjust the bend in the mountain brackets that attach the dishwasher to the underside of the counter. This requires flexing the thin piece of aluminum at the perforated line. In the process, one of the brackets snapped. The other was barely still intact and broke several months later. I tried jerry-rigging them, but eventually decided to replace them and called Whirlpool customer service to ask for replacement parts.

Unfortunately, Whirlpool wanted to charge me $10.50 apiece and another $9.00 for shipping and handling. These parts could not cost more than a few cents apiece. I was shocked that they would charge me $30.00 to replace these flawed parts. Never have I had such and experience with any customer service department. The three people I spoke with were all rude and unapologetic about my situation. Two blamed it on the install...I've installed plenty of dishwashers and never had any problems in the past. Even if it was a failure on my behalf, the simple replacement of the parts for a reasonable charge would have been fine by me.

I told them I'd be happy to pay a few dollars and to pay the full shipping fee (which was also high, in my opinion), but they refused to meet me halfway. I can only think that this is part of their business plan...make dishwashers with sub-par parts, and then over charge for the replacement parts when they fail. Well, I re-upped my jerry-rigging efforts and have improved the engineering of the faulty part. Save my $30. But Whirlpool will never again get my business and I'll be sure to steer clients and friends away from this brand as well.

The Whirlpool delivery team and the service team can't seem to coordinate a time together for the replacement. We had to make a first appointment for the service guy to uninstall the old unit, the second appt for the delivery guy to drop off the new unit and pick up the old and a 3rd appt to install the new unit. Each appt has a 4 hour wait window. This is their standard procedure, which is totally inconvenient to customers.

To make matter worse, the delivery guy came too early for a condo delivery (before 9 AM) and told us he will be back the next day. And he didn't show up. It looks like now we actually have to have 5 appts (including the 2 missed appts by their delivery guy) to have the washer replaced. All the time I wasted waiting for this delivery is worth more than the washer itself. What would be 4 hours X 5 appts = 20 hours. This is the worst customer experience ever. Here is what I wrote to Whirlpool: Model: WTW7800XWO, Serial number: C02670320. I purchased the 4.6 Cu. Ft. Cabrio Platinum Top Load Washer in June 2010. The washer lid has broken 3 times now. It's snapping by the hinges. I have been charged about $300 per lid. I believe the hinges are not durable enough to support the weight of the glass lid. I have read hundreds of reviews regarding the same model and issues, I also have a friend who has the same model and is experiencing the same issues and has had to replace the lid twice now. I'm disappointed that Whirlpool has not taken accountability for this and either issue a recall or replace the lid at no charge to the customer. If there has been so many complaints, why hasn't Whirlpool taken action on this? I am requesting that the Whirlpool Headquarters address this issue immediately.

When I called customer service to complain about this issue, the rep informed me that they have never heard about this issue before. From all the reviews I have read online, it seems that customer service is telling them the same thing. By not addressing this defect, Whirlpool will lose thousands of customers. This is not the way to retain or have returning customers. This is the first time I have purchased a Whirlpool appliance. I will not be a returning customer if this matter is not resolved.

They do not stand behind their product and refuse to acknowledge what is a common issue. PISS POOR and will NOT give me a number to a higher up. Absolute disgrace!!!

UPDATED ON 10/28/2015: This is an update to my previous review. 1st, I contacted Whirlpool who was absolutely NO help whatsoever and the person I spoke to refused to put me through to higher ups on the food chain. I was wrong in my previous review when I stated that we purchased the washer & dryer 4 yrs ago. It was purchased in January 2012. Started making noise in 2014 and has progressively turned into the sound of a freight train. I also failed to mention the stench that comes from this machine. It has also got to the point where it quits with 10 minutes to go in every wash.

Whirlpool did send out a "Whirlpool certified technician", which they paid for, who stated this has been a common issue with these and other models of Whirlpool Cabrio wash machines. Says in his 3 yrs with the company he has seen and diagnosed over 30 machines with basically the same issues (bearings are SHOT) and Whirlpool refuses to accept any responsibility for the defective design and that, in his opinion, they should've never been released. He gave me an estimate of $257.13 to repair. We decided to go ahead with the repair and technician came out only to tell me that there has been a "re-work" in the design of the replacement parts as Whirlpool realized they were faulty.

So I now have to wait for the NEW designed replacement parts to come in as they are back ordered. WTF does that mean??? Shouldn't there be a RE-CALL and shouldn't they accept responsibility for this??? This has been, without a doubt, the most disappointment we've had with any purchase of a NEW appliance or, anything else for that matter, in our lives. After reading through some of these same complaints I'm wondering if this machine is nothing, but a money pit and what's going to go wrong next. We also purchased the Cabrio dryer at the same time and have had no issues with it as of this time, but I assure you, I wait with baited breath. Their customer service department is piss poor AT BEST!! Please, stay away from ALL Whirlpool appliances in the future.

The repair person ordered two parts to fix it (they took the control panel off the order for some reason). They sent a second inept person to try and install the part they did send and it did not work (He was the most condescending person I have ever met but that is another story.). Of course it did not work and they actually have to replace the control panel AND the electrical panel (which as you know was ordered by the original tech, but taken off the order by who knows?). Now they are telling me that the part that they should have ordered 2 weeks ago is on back order until sometime in May. All I am getting from Whirlpool is lip service and they honestly do not care one tiny little bit that I have a dryer under warranty that will not have been working now for close to six weeks. This is unacceptable business practices.

For the record I bought the unit at LOWE'S and they too refuse to stand behind the product. Basically told me tough they have nothing to do with it. I also purchased an $8000 Kitchenaid (Whirlpool) Refrigerator 5 years ago and the control panel went out about 4 years later. They stopped making the part and I have to THROW away an $8000 refrigerator because they don't make the part for it.

As evidenced above, Whirlpool products do not stand the test of time and when they do break (even under warranty), they cannot fix them in a timely manner or at all in the case of the refrig (not under warranty). I caution every reader of this diatribe to choose wisely WHERE you purchase your appliances and carefully select a brand other than Whirlpool (and its brand affiliates of Kitchenaid, Jenn-air, Amana and certain Kenmore products).

The agitator would spin but the tub just sat there.

Now came the difficult part. I told them I was quite sure about my diagnostic that it needed a new tub and told them I could send them a video (I even posted a video on Facebook and Twitter). But they said they would have to send a man out at $180 to make sure! After several days of back and forth conversations, someone at Whirlpool finally saw the video and agreed to send us a new tub. I haven't gotten it yet but have heard through the grapevine that these tubs were supposed to be replaced if rusted because of the quality of metal used? So other than pulling a few teeth and needing to replace the tub, our washer has been a pretty good machine.

8 cu. ft. Cabrio® High-Efficiency Top Load Washer with Steam - I bought a new washer. It did a poor job rinsing and spinning dry. Whirlpool customer threatened me that a service charge may be charge if the repairman came out and found nothing wrong. After calling three times I ordered a repairman out. The repairman explained that only way to prevent soap residue on your "clean" clothes is to use the "bulky" and "deep water" options. Also don't use high spin or when it spins your clothes dry, it leaves them in a tangled mess that requires ironing to remove the wrinkles. This washer is not ready for the market and must be removed until they can perfect it. It cost me $200 to return and exchange this model for the Front Load Duet, which works excellent. Whirlpool should be ashamed to have ever put this machine on the market.

WTW4950XW2 - I purchased My whirlpool washing machine wtw4950xw2 from best buy in 03/30 2013 and it just stop working after 3 yrs. The manufacture warranty was only good for 1 year. I think companies does that on purpose because they know these new equipments are not going to last. I think before they use to have at least a 3 yr or better warranty on appliances. First it started making this loud sound when on the spin cycle, so I had a repair guy come out. He told me that the bearings needed replaced so (how does bearings goes out in 3 yrs). I asked how much will it be to replace parts/labor. The Parts cost $250 and the labor is $200. I might as well buy a new washing machine.

I am so disgusted with this machine. My previous Whirlpool, which was not the new modernized, I had for at least 12 years and also I bought a whirlpool dryer. My Dryer stills works after 15 yrs. I'm going to try to hold on to the dryer until the long haul. I wish I just would have gotten my old washing machine fixed. Now I'm looking for a new washer and I wont be doing a whirlpool or anything with a push to start - just a plain old agitator, no sensing mechanism, just basic.

I have had the Whirlpool Cabrio a couple years now and haven't had any mechanical problems but the washing stinks!!! I have grin and beared it for two years pulling clothes out that are tangled and not even wet enough that I am finally fed up. This washing machine is a piece of crap. If you wash dark clothes 9 out of 10 times you can pull them out and see dry spots on them. I hate the fact that it saves on water and uses less water. Great, you're saving my water bill but destroying my clothes so I don't see a win-win with this washer. It's awful, don't buy a Whirlpool. I repeat, don't buy a Whirlpool!!!

It literally twist the clothes so tangled it can't even get them clean. Nothing smells clean because it can't wash because there is no water. I regularly clean the washer with the washing machine cleaner but that does nothing for its overall awful performance. If you are set on buying one of these please call me because I would love to get rid of this piece of crap!!!

Purchased a Whirlpool Cabrio washer with the glass lid. This is not a good washer to buy! The clothes do not get clean. Have to set it to "bulk" to get enough water to even cover clothes. Biggest issue is the lid. I have had to order a new one as it cracked on both sides back by control panel. I took the old lid off and discovered why the lid cracked. I have read many complaints about this same issue and everyone said Whirlpool would do nothing about it or even acknowledge there was a problem.

Here is the problem. On each side there is a spring to hold the lid up while in the open position. The lid is plastic. When I tried to push those lid pins down with the lid off they would not go down. The springs are too strong for the plastic. When the lid is down the springs are trying to hold the lid up, so they are pushing against the plastic. Given time the springs win out against the plastic and the lid cracks and breaks. I am just a simple housewife and I figured this out! I hope that every manufacturer that is making glass top lids STOPS making them out of plastic, uses metal instead, uses a spring that is not as strong, or foregoes the current design and comes up with something that is better. It is for certain that I will never buy another Whirlpool appliance!

Purchased this beautiful sleek Cabrio washer in May 2012 from "Appliance Smart", with its modern looking glass top, it looked so nice. The washer itself works ok for now, but it does unbalance a lot, thats not main issue. We deal with that. The poor design of holding that sleek glass top in is the problem. After a little over two years, it started cracking at the hinge that is just mounted in Plastic which holds the whole lid down, including the heavy glass. The glass started raising up, causing steam to escape. The lid is rubbing and very difficult to open. Appliance Smart is gone now.. We called the service repair person about 6 months ago, he looked at it, said its a problem that is not covered on our warranty and it would be approx $350.00 to repair!!

So today, tomorrow or next week it will stop working because the lid is popping off! Its a terrible design, dont be fooled by its sleek look. The manufacturer takes no responsibility for this major design flaw. Beware, the very thing you need to be fixed wont be covered under warranty, lemon law, or just good customer service. We have owned several Whirlpool appliances and doubt that we will own one again, due to the way this issue was handled by Whirlpool.

Please do not buy any Whirlpool Cabrio washing machine or dryer. We purchased our Whirlpool Cabrio washer/dryer set in 2006/2007 and paid close to two grand for them. The washing machine worked fine for the first year and a half. Then we started getting F1 error codes. I called and Whirlpool said that the main board would need to be replaced for $400. We held off until 2012. In 2011 the washer finished a cycle and the lid would not open. The lid lock did not retract back into place. I tried everything.

Eventually I ended up forcing the lid open and cracking the PLASTIC lid lock. In 2012 I had someone come out and replace the main board. It worked fine for about a month, then one day I was home doing laundry and all of a sudden I heard a loud bang. I look in my laundry room to find the washer destroyed and leaking water everywhere. We replaced our Whirlpool Cabrio Washing machine in August 2012 for a new Samsung front loader.

That was just the washer. The dryer worked OK till 2013. The dryer finished a cycle normally. When I put a new load in and started it, no noise came from the dryer and it was not spinning or heating. I called Whirlpool and they said that a fuse would need to be replaced and that it would cost 350 dollars to be replaced. In September 2013 we replaced our Whirlpool Cabrio Dryer with a new Samsung.

Everything must be sorted into the smallest loads possible and even then the clothes don't clean because they beehive into a ball and do not agitate. Technician says the machine cannot be fixed and simply recommends it be trashed (it is 1 1/2 years old). Technician recommends going back to front loaders where at least the clothes agitate. In 2011 we bought a Whirlpool Washer (WTW4950XW). We had a one year warranty. There have been problems ever since we bought it. Of course it is no longer under warranty. In the last few months we have encountered brown spots on clothing. The washer has always spent an inordinate amount of time Scanning. It does not matter how much I readjust the load. I ALWAYS must do an extra Spin and Drain. Sometimes Rinse and Drain helps...sometimes not. Sometimes the machine indicates it MIGHT be finished washing but only the clothing on the bottom of the load is damp. It does not rinse the soap out. Recently when I washed my husband's coat several times -- he had to finally hang it in the shower when he bathed to get the soap out.

We had repairmen out once when we had the warranty. They said the drainage hose was wrong. We adjusted that. I called Whirlpool more than once about our problems. They said they could not help because we had no warranty. OK. One young lady said we could get a 5 year warranty for $353. For $499 we might get a machine without all the 747 dials and tweets and fewer government, EPA amenities. What's wrong with this picture? My old washer lasted 30 years. We are very, very sorry we did not repair it. All I want is a washer that will provide me with clean clothing, towels, sheets and blankets in a timely manner. That does not seem to me to be too much to expect. I am considering a washboard! Or the shower for ALL my laundry! I am angry and frustrated. I always considered Whirlpool a good brand.

I washed my clothes at my daughter's house for a week and dried them at home. Within the week the dryer quit.

Not having the money to repair both machines, my son gifted me a set of top loading washer/dryer. Again Whirlpool. In a week we had repair service out. They replaced everything possible and it still didn't work right. Since the 90 days from purchase was approaching we returned it to the store and they had Whirlpool send us a brand new dryer. This one worked for a month then stopped spinning. I haven't called for service yet because now with 3 broken machines I am so disgusted. When I think about them I feel like I am going to puke. Each cycle had to be manually started by pressing the pause button, raising the washer lid, and then pressing the pause button again. I purchased this washer and at the same time had gotten a puppy, I only mention the puppy because she is the one who kept getting blamed for what was happening to my clothes. I NEVER thought that it was my washing machine that was ruining my clothing, until I finally opened the door one day and my shirt was hanging from the top of the washer opening, and suddenly it all made sense! I kept thinking that the puppy was chewing my clothes but it is actually the washer that is sucking my clothing into the opening of the washer and when it gets stuck and the rest of the garment keeps spinning, it creates a "burn" in the clothing. I found out the hard way that Whirlpool will just blame the consumer for not knowing how to properly follow washing instructions, or their instructions, and will not take any sort of responsibility for it being the washer itself!

I wrote to them after my father passed away and I washed his sweater in the washer and it got caught in the washer and ruined it. They blamed me for it and basically said I did not follow the proper washing instructions. I have been washing clothes for over 20 years and I know how to do laundry. I have read every inch of the owners manual and NOTHING tells you that during the wash cycle, your clothes may become sucked into the opening and ruined! So I went online to see if this was happening to anyone else and I was amazed at how many people this is actually happening to! There should have been a recall on these washers and I am amazed there has not been some sort of class action lawsuit.
