Whirlpool Cabrio washer - Absolute piece of garbage! Doesn't clean clothes at all. Too bad there isn't a glass top to this machine where you can witness the inefficient operations as it goes through a cycle. How can a machine be energy efficient when a cycle takes an hour and a half? What a sad situation that this is made in America. I feel like such a sucker when I read all of these posts.

The washer does clean simple stains. The clothes end up all twisted (sleeves & pant legs). Antiperspirant gets transferred to dark clothing. Large loads do not get clean and the response from Whirlpool was run everything on hot and for longer than normal times. The enviro rating and low water usage claim has resulted in a machine that does NOT fully clean clothes. Look elsewhere and do not buy.

We have had this Cabrio washer/dryer pair for 8 years now. I didn't want to buy a front loader at the time since they were relatively new and was afraid to roll the dice. We saw the ads for this pair, the washer was the largest top loader at the time and didn't have the agitator (which I liked) so we bought them from Best Buy. I purchased the extended service plan (thank God) because we started having issues within the first month. First was the dryer, it was making a funny squeaking noise. We called to have it looked at and the tech said the drum was out of round. He ordered a new one and it showed up almost oblong. Returned it and got a second (same thing). We straightened it out and put it in.
Now I have had to repair the washers control panel myself, the dryer sounds like it is coming apart and sometimes runs for hours, and now the washer can't wash in any cycle but delicate because the drum bangs around and can't self balance any more. What junk!!! I know people that have purchased low end machines and have had no issues for decades, maybe a random belt or something simple. I wouldn't buy another Whirlpool set if they were the last manufacturer on the planet. They should be ashamed that they didn't recall these things for all the problems they had.

We purchased our first Whirlpool product, a washer, model WTW4800XQ 2 years ago. Started having problems with the clothes dripping wet after the wash cycle. Turns out the 2 year old washer needs a shift actuator and a wire harness that will cost close to $400 and take a week to obtain! I have had Kenmore appliances for the past 35 years. I've never been disappointed it their performance or longevity. Each appliance lasting 15+ years and in the case of my fridge, it lasted 30 years! I am very disappointed in Whirlpool and WILL NEVER purchase another whirlpool product.

My Whirlpool Cabrio washer (WTW6600SG2) is a money pit! After reading all of the nightmare stories concerning this washer one would think Whirlpool would offer a recall and try to correct their wrong doing. Do not buy a Whirlpool Cabrio. It was the worst decision I have ever made! Whirlpool does not stand behind their products. I can't believe they can get away with treating their customers so unfairly, taking their hard earned money for crap like this, then not offering to help after so many have had issues. The Cabrio is loud, doesn't get clothes clean, and is always flashing "UL" for uneven load (when it works at all). My local repairman has made many trips to fix my problem Cabrio. This time he is at a loss. I'll be buying a new washer and it will not be made by Whirlpool! Please, if you are reading this be forewarned!! You will regret your purchase if you buy a Whirlpool Cabrio.

I bought a pair front loading washer & Dryer May this year and took Delivery in June. First problem was with touch controls. I should have Known then it would be trouble, they replaced it then we went home to Fl. - Aug. Returned in Oct - used the machine eight times total and it locked up with our Clothes inside in water. Called for service, was told it would be a week before someone could come, then was told after four days it was the mother Board and it would take at least another week to get our clothes out. Their Service is the worst I ever have dealt with. The whole house - we Bought Whirlpool based on the Maytags we bought for our House in 2004. Never a problem but those Maytags were Maytag - not whirlpool. I would never buy any Whirlpool Appliances again. It is sad because I try to buy American made to support our fellow Brothers and sisters in the work Force but now I will buy made anywhere as long as it works and has reasonable service. Whirlpool is not the same as I Remember from years ago.

Now we are having another situation that it start the wash cycle but it won't finish and shows a code F35 or sud.

We purchased a higher end cabrio model only 3 years ago. Last year, on about every 5th cycle, the load would not spin at the end. I'd have to remove all the wet clothes, set it to drain and spin, start it and wait for it to hopefully kick in. When I do it right, it kicks into the spin mode. I had to quickly press start/stop to unlock the hatch and reload the soaking wet clothes and wait for it to spin properly. Yesterday the same thing happened again. This time, it did not kick in. I ended up flipping the washer over and taking a look underneath. I discovered that the motor was seized. It had lost all its lubricating oil and smoked the belt.
Now, my 3 year old washer is sitting in the driveway awaiting a trip to the dump since I got fed up and went out and purchased a new Samsung top loader. I emailed and called whirlpool with no luck. Not impressed. When I went out to buy a washer today the first thing I told the salesman was to stick anything with the name whirlpool out in the trash bin out back.

I purchased a new Whirlpool Cabrio set, in 2009. I bought the top loading washer, and matching dryer. Since 2009, I have had the washer serviced FIVE times. Bearings, water pump, F1, F2, ul codes, and a few other things, I honestly can't remember. I love this capacity. But that is all I love about this machine. Today, the water pump went out again. I have been reading online regarding loose coins making their way into the drain pump, the hose, and other parts of the washer. I am diligent about emptying my pockets, but, obviously, someone in the house is not. There should be a trap for the coins, buttons, and any other debris that passes through, but, clearly there is not, and it appears I am not the only one with this problem. I am so frustrated. I paid almost $3,000.00 for this set. It was my very first brand new set and I have had so many problems with this. With all of the problems and all of the complaints, and so many similar complaints, why is Whirlpool not acknowledging them? Why are they not doing anything about it? Side note, my dryer works fine.

It will just keep trying to spin, yet NOT spinning, then when you stop it, there is no choice to just spin again, you have to rinse and spin!! Unbelievable.... takes a whole evening to do one load of towels!!! (actually a whole evening to do 2 towels) I hate it!!! Not to mention, whatever they designed between the tub and the door, a rubber 'whatever' it is, is nothing but a catch for disgusting bacteria and slime. Considering the amount of wash I DON'T DO, this is unacceptable, even though I have bought and used the 'new washing machine' washing stuff!!! Honestly.... had a Maytag Neptune before this machine..... that is the way to go folks, pay a little more, but way more satisfied. Cleaned like a gem, unlike this whirlpool, cleaning is at best mediocre!!
Unfortunately, I broke it, asking it to wash huge 120 in round table cloths for my business, and heavy chair covers..... Had I have know.... can't even wash 2 towels in this new Whirlpool machine!! It is heading to the curb with all its disgusting places you have to clean, I will pay someone to take it away, seriously cost me a ton of money in re-spinning (or yeah, and re- rinsing, cause you can't just spin something), would have been better to fix my MAYTAG!!! I bought Whirlpool front load washer at Sears in June 27, 2012... (serial W104408696A) (W10409178A-SP). I had 6 episodes within a 1-year time that my clothes got burn holes and the inside of the washer. I would find a handful of gray powder after doing my laundry. The first time it happened, I thought that I left something inside my clothes that resulted to it, but I did nothing to contribute to the event. The second time it happened, I thought I'm putting the wrong setting, so I chose another setting to wash my clothes.
In that span of 1 year it was on and off happening. I read different reviews on this washer, and I am not the only one who's had this problem. Finally in 2013, before my warranty would expire, I requested for Whirlpool to fix the problem. Right away the tech told me that the problem was the glass covering, so they replaced it. Now my washer would not drain. I believe that this product does not belong in the market. If they knew what the problem was, they should have recalled it. I kept the sample of that gray powder.

Purchased a Whirlpool Cabrio Washer a few years back... Started getting F1 error message and just proceeded thru it like most did initially, but now has become pain in the rear just to do one load of laundry as we get the error 2-3 times when we start each load - then on every load w/ 21 minutes left on the cycle. From the looks of things online this is a chronic problem and should be fixed by manufacturer.
I called Whirlpool customer service and first person I talked with said they understand it is an issue but "no longer" are any recalls or reworks on that machine. I asked to speak w/ supervisor and sat on hold until I got one. Was then informed they do know it was a problem but was not something they could do anything about other than schedule a service company to come take a look. I specifically asked if there was at one time a recall or if they were fixing this issue for a while. She said "Yes, they took care of some of their customers but are no longer doing that for this model."
So basically because I didn't call in at the right time I need to fix my machine myself. I said it will be the last Whirlpool or Whirlpool associated appliance I ever purchase if this is the kind of customer service I can expect... The supervisor just said she was sorry to hear that and to have a nice day. Hopefully enough people read these reviews as I wish I would have before purchasing my Cabrio and don't buy Whirlpool.

We can't wash anything with strings such as hoodies, shirts or baby clothing with spaghetti straps or little dangle things; we have to use the laundry mat and come home & dry w/ my Cabrio steam dryer which I love. Most everything I have to use zipper net bags but even then things still can get destroyed, especially if a hole gets torn in the bag from the "wings" of the agitator as you will see in the below photograph.
I currently have & own an expensive washer I purchased from HHGregg by Whirlpool replacing a previous whirlpool I owned for 22 years! Yep, I'm wishing I had it back & put the $200 some needed to repair it! Please Whirlpool will you please do something & make this right once and for all. I don't have $900 for another washer. I just want to be able to use my washer without it destroying everything I own. I have darn photos of what this is doing and you wouldn't believe it. It took us an hour, yes an hour to untangle a top that became entangled in the flaps on the agitator. This is the worst design I have ever seen and needs to be recalled once and for all and either fixed or replaced with new machines of equal model with the agitation issues resolved or removed & with no issues or further costs to your customers!
Why would you honestly believe that an agitator with wings coming off the bottom that are not attached to the bottom would serve some type of positive purpose in cleaning clothing? All it is doing is tearing them to shreds, tangling them up, doing things to hoodies which make them unrecognizable after ripping the cords so hard out of the hoodies that I've seen them shred the material across the collar area and opening of the cording completely ruining hoodies ranging from $35-$75 a piece even after placing them in mesh bags! Why did we keep placing hoodies in the machine? Well with 4 children at times they just don't listen or get all the info as to what is going on with the machine as 3 were college kids coming home periodically & yes, to do their laundry.
Look, let's talk straight. You as a company from what I have learned from appliance salesmen locally and regionally, you knew this was wrong and knew this was your last ditch effort of an agitator before you knowingly knew you were going to an agitator-less unit on your washing machines & already had one ready to go out on the floors. I know that you Whirlpool CEO's knew this unit was a bad call but chose to ignore it. You had to know it because there was no way this could have passed quality control. It had to have failed sometime in its trials showing you the issues of the wings. Unless you never did any quality control on this unit and just rushed it through? Please to the CEO's of Whirlpool, I am asking you to make this right if not for good standing of your company do it at least for families like myself who can't afford to buy another machine and are now stuck with NEW machines yet going to Laundry mats.
This was to be my "last" washing machine I would buy hopefully. I am 54 and was not planning on buying another. How do you think this makes your company look???? I'm just so tired of dealing w/ Whirlpool to only hear I have to purchase a $400 extended warranty with no guarantee that they will fix the issue. If an attorney wants to step in & believes they can help us and maybe others then Yes please help us because this is absolutely ridiculous and is a product that needs to be recalled. We are out so much money now and like I said we are to the point we can't purchase another washer. We had to purchase all new appliances as they all began going bad around the same time.

Took the machine apart to fix and was originally told new parts will be delivered free of charge since this is a common occurrence. 5 weeks later and several phone calls, we were told the part is on back order and they do not make it anymore. Then they send an email to keep us as customers for 15% off. Ridiculous. It is only three years old and I have been having to go to the laundromat because I can't afford a service call and especially if it is what they say which costs almost much as the washer. We purchased the Cabrio Agi top loading washing machine in 2011 (3 years ago). After 2 years it started leaking from the plastic drum (Bearings?). Luckily we have it in the basement on concrete floor, so there was no damage, just frustration. This was poor purchase on our part. We should have searched for more reviews. The wash time is ridiculous; it is too long, an average of 50 minutes per load. I don't know about how clean the clothes were, I guess they were OK. I didn't notice a smell, or them looking 'dingy'. The Cabrio is a piece of junk if the bearings went out after 2 years?? We just purchased a heavy duty Speed Queen, top loading, agitator washer. My wife loves this, it's like the 'old' Maytag we had. I purchased the Whirlpool Cabrio top load washer and dryer a couple of years ago and have disliked the washer from the first wash. I have followed the instructions on how to load the washer which, first of all, takes more time than any other washer I have ever had to load. Second, the clothes come out so wrapped around each other that it's almost impossible to separate them. They are wrinkled to the point that the dryer can't even de-wrinkle them, and some have even been damaged. Third, the load doesn't smell fresh even though I have cleaned the washer as instructed. I agree with every negative review I have read on this product, and have been so disappointed with this purchase that I will never buy any Whirlpool product again.

We noticed a strange sound and some leaks a week ago and called in a technician recommended on the Whirlpool website. They were simply not interested. The online chat person sent me to the Whirlpool Customer Experience Team where I was told that I should buy an insurance plan to cover the costs of repairs. We purchased a Cabrio washer in August 2013, in early August 2014 we noticed that it was not getting all of the detergent out of the clothes (noticed it on the dark clothes after drying). We use less than the recommended amount of HE detergent and dilute it in the dispenser, also always use the extra rinse. We just had a Sears service man out at a $100 cost only to find out that he gets these calls all of the time and the machine is operating at the factory settings.
After reporting the problem to Whirlpool all I got was "we are sorry" and a link to how to operate the washer. In the demonstration video it clearly shows that the water level never covers the clothes. I know I'm old school but in my opinion the water should cover the clothes so it can properly wet and agitate the items in the washer. To say I am less than satisfied is a gross understatement. I'm out the cost of the washer plus an additional $100 and after a year of ownership and contacting Whirlpool less than a week after the factory warranty ran out all I get is an "I'm sorry you do not know how to operate a washer."

I just want to say that this washer is indeed a colossal waste of money. I bought an HE machine thinking I'd be environmentally responsible, but the amount of times I have to re-rinse clothes negates that. What's worse is that clothes come out dirtier than when they go in. That's right--just put a brand new set of sheets in the washer and when they came out, there were dissolved detergent marks and gray, linty patches all over them (this using warm water and a soft gel detergent)--resembling dirt you might get from hanging clothes on a mildew clothes line. I can't tell you how many times I need to re-run the drain and spin cycle. This wastes time, water and quality of life. I'd try to re-sell it on Craigslist but wouldn't want to subject anyone else to it--not fair even at $100!

My letter specifically said I did not expect customer resolution but wanted to express what a rotten product they produced and marketed. They called back leaving a message to the effect: "We apologize want to help you but need to speak in person. Please call [toll free number] and have your make and serial numbers available."
I called back, and after waiting on hold for 10 mins., the rep took my model and serial numbers, said, "Oh I see your letter. Please give me a moment to review it. I went to the Whirlpool website to chat with a representative and they are sorry but "unfortunately, we cannot guarantee there will be no repairs or parts replacements needed as components do deteriorate or fail on occasion due to factors over which we have no control" - they went on to say that since the washer is approximately 3 years old "there would be no assistance that we would be able to provide toward repairs". I agree that a class action suit should be considered since Whirlpool is taking no responsibility for a machine that costs too much - makes your clothes smell and lasts for such a short time. Now, our washer has quit working properly, the door locks and won't open on the washer and the repairman arrived today with parts to replace based on the code messages popping up on the washer screen. However, now, he's not certain if the motor has burned out or if it is some other problem. We also purchased a French door frig from Whirlpool barely 13 months ago (bottom freezer) and recently had to have that repaired when one of the electronic boards went out and the freezer quit working and icing up.
In both of these cases, the appliances started giving us problems just as soon as the warranties were up; what has happened to Whirlpool reliability and dependability of their products? We can't help but feel that our China-based parts are part of the change and will, in the future, not purchase any more Whirlpool products. Our 2005 whirlpool duet washer steel drum and plastic tub broke. My husband diagnosed the problem and opted to fix it to save money. The parts are under warranty but you still pay labor and technician visit running up to $250-$300. The plastic tub was obtained only if we paid for it $100 and the steel drum they sent under warranty. The plastic tub has a hole with a black plug and sensor in it. There is a discrepancy in the measurement of the old tub and new tub's hole that is slightly larger, therefore when installed a steady stream of water leaks out. I now have 3 plastic tubs as that was their solution, to send more of the same that did not measure correctly.
An investigation was done to determine they were the correct parts. As asked we had a whirlpool technician come to verify parts were correct and being installed correctly and the parts sent would not fix the machine due to the hole discrepancy. Many calls were made to whirlpool and they continue to give me the runaround. They now are not taking their technician's information. The technician has given the information to 3 sales reps in the new england area and made several phone calls to whirlpool and no one is willing to give us a solution.

We bought a Whirlpool washer (Model # WTW4900BWO) and dryer (#WED4850BW) and within 2 months I was having problems with the washer AND dryer. Every time I washed a load of clothes, the clothes would have some yucky stuff hanging all over it. I called Whirlpool and was told to try setting the washer on 1 Rinse with Softener even though I never use a liquid softener. Their suggestion did solve the problem, but why doesn't a brand-new washer work the way it's supposed to? A short time later, my dryer buzzer stopped working and the knob would not advance when set on the Energy Preferred setting. I called Whirlpool again and was told they did not have a service technician in the area where I lived and that it was not likely that one technician would come on the same day to service both machines.
I asked why they would sell their products in an area where they were not willing to service them and they said that is the choice of the store that sold it to me. Then they told me there was a service technician available about 40 miles away and they would fax the order to them so they could contact me. The technician who came did look at both machines and was able to determine that the control panel needed replacing on the dryer, but was not able to do anything about the Rinse Option problem on the washer. He suggested that I continue to follow the recommendation of Whirlpool as long as it works. I can do that, but I'm not happy that a new machine does not work the way it's supposed to.
He also recommended NOT using liquid laundry detergent or fabric softener in my washer because it contains animal fat and can build up and cause problems. Nowhere in the manual did it say that. He took the washer apart and showed me how it was already building up under the washer basket. I told the technician that my laundry has had an unpleasant odor to it when it comes out of the washer and even after it is dry. He said that might be because of the small amount of water that is used in the energy saving washer. If these problems cannot be resolved, I consider this washer to be a lemon and hope it will be replaced with a new one. If I had to do it all over again, I would buy a traditional washer. I liked the idea of conserving water, but not if my family's clothes stinks.

I have cleaned the washer with the recommended product on the clean washer setting, although now with the leak, that means a good floor mopping too!
I have contacted customer service about the leak since the machine is still under warranty - and they gave me a 4-hour window on a specified day for the service. I took the time off work and the technician failed to show. I called twice to follow up on his whereabouts and ETA. They did nothing except tell me to keep waiting. 45 minutes after the outside hour of arrival had passed, I called again. When I asked for a preferential booking (with a real time) to minimize taking more time off work, the manager said all she could do was give me another 4-hour window. My Cabrio washing machine is 3 years old, and is "working" the way it has been designed to work. It does not clean clothes and it consistently has a foul odor. Due to the odor, I must use the cleaning cycle with Affresh (pricey product) 3-4 times weekly. Even that is insufficient. Because it is in an indoor laundry area, the odor permeates the hallway and nearby bedrooms. The extra cleaning cycles are contrary to the "energy efficiency" of the washer, and detrimental to the severe drought conditions in California. When I contacted Whirlpool about my situation, they recommended I substitute bleach for the Affresh to keep the cost down.

If there had been a choice for no stars I would have given it none. I bought the Cabrio washer and dryer 2 years ago and been dissatisfied from the beginning. It was recommended to me by the repairman who gave me the bad news that my old Whirlpool was not repairable. I suspect that his recommendation came from the fact that it has a good record with regard to repairs and not that it did a good job cleaning clothes.
I thought that perhaps there was a learning curve and I would figure it out. Not so. This washer leaves stains, sometimes even not getting something thoroughly wet. The washer does not get clothes clean, especially whites. I have replaced two sets of white towels because they were never entirely clean and eventually became so dingy that I donated them to the Humane Society. I tried using Oxy Clean and even bleach, but nothing works in this washer. Any workout or sports clothes I soak first in the sink because not doing so results in smelly "cleaned" laundry that has to be repeatedly washed to remove any sweat odors. The final straw came when I washed a small fleece dog pad and it came out of the washer with one third of it not ever having touched water. I tried explaining these issues to Whirlpool customer service agents, who blithely informed me that Whirlpool can do nothing to help. So, I will donate this heap of metal to anyone who is willing to take it on and never purchase another Whirlpool product. Incidentally, I submitted this review to the whirlpool review site and they refused to publish it.

Had to pause it to add more water to & again to rinse it. Plus I had to mix my softener into a cup of water to add it on rinse because I forgot the rinse ball, unlike the old washer where I add into dispenser & forget about it. So unhappy & dissatisfied.

If I wanted a new microwave without the dust and ash, I had to call Whirlpool. Whirlpool is ALWAYS experiencing a high volume of calls.
Whirlpool states 7 - 14 days (unit on back order of course) for the microwave will arrive. 21 days later..no microwave. More high volume of calls... Whirpool state a repair center has received the microwave on July 31st and should have called me. Said repair center has no record of this transaction. Customer rep says my file is hard to understand (i.e. it is long). But they assure me they are "empowered to help me". Maybe they should look up that word.
Today...it is not Whirlpool customer service fault! No... It is being handled by a Product Replacement Specialist... Sadly they cannot provide me with any contact info for that "Specialist". They really don't make them like they use to, do they? This Whirlpool Cabrio aka Caprio has given us problems for the past 3 years, we've owned it for 5 years. It doesn't matter how much, or how little clothing you put in this washer machine. It will start going NUTS, Thudding, Banging against the inside of itself, completely out of whack, and then it will show a UL where the time is shown.
Every time we do laundry this happens, and we have to stick our hands in the hot water and reorganize the clothes, and pull more and more clothes out till there's only about 3 items of clothing left! This washer is GARBAGE! I advise people to keep away from it. The washer we had in the past lasted us years upon years. These washers of now in days are Crap Garbage. Keep the fancy tech look, and give me the old fashion Knobs ANY DAY! Whirlpool brand is Not what it once was.

There is almost NOTHING I like about my new $1000 Whirlpool Cabrio Platinum washing machine! The clothes don't get clean. Stains become PERMANENT because clothes are spun and matted so tightly together, the 2 inches of water allowed into the tub can't dissolve them. Fabric softener stays a gummy substance because it has to be SUCKED out of the dispenser, not sprinkled out with water.
I pin socks together to keep them in pairs, but this machine rips them apart and the safety pin end up in the bottom. My bathroom rugs are shredded. You can't add an extra item if you need to, because the tiny portion of water leaks out. There were DRY spots still on the sheets at the end of a cycle. This machine is an engineering nightmare, sort of like the Edsel. The only action programmed to clean the clothes is a wiggling motion on the floor of the tub. The tub spins so much, energy goes through the roof.
Man was given 3 survival elements to assure our existence on earth: water, air, and food. Why are engineers trying to faze out our use of water? This machine has dazzling looks, but NOTHING else. I am so sorry I didn't read all the reviews first. Who would ever think the environmentalists would inflict such pain on our basic domestic obligations! If I don't get my money back or a decent exchange at Sears where we bought it, I'm taking the machine to their parking lot and commencing a show with a baseball bat.

Even though we use the dark detergent on the dark clothes and program for an extra rinse cycle, the clothes come out with white powder all over them. They need to be washed again and sometimes again. Back ground & Information about problems: A) We purchased the Cabrio Model# WTW5840BW0 washer 8 months ago and it has been nothing but trouble. And yes I'm very busy in the summer - always on the go with school, kids, vacation, homework, finals, and work, etc. For the past 2.5 months. Started off by not spinning out, first problem. Does not fill up on deep washer cycle. Clothes come out as dirty as when I put them in. I have pictures. Some clothes never get wet; no water touches them (Small/Large loads). Now whites are coming out with yellow blotches on them. The clothes smell like Wet Dog - yes wet dog. I've used the Powerball cleaner three times in 8 months. Yes, a service man has been out. He recalibrated everything. Now it’s worse. He is/has ordered ALL new computer parts, and I do mean ALL. If you need to replace every computer part on a brand new machine, I feel as if this alone, is a red flag… Wouldn't you agree?
I'm not happy with your Whirlpool Cabrio Washer and no longer want this washer. Maybe a different one, but not this one! It has been nothing but a headache. What can be done? I've called Whirlpool USA 4-5 time being on endless hold @ the 800-253-1301 number and finally today is the first time talking to a rep. The young man was nice; however I'm still no closer to getting this machine fixed today! Ugh. I would not recommend the CABRIO WASHER to anyone at this point. You can understand, can't you? B) Sad ;-( I had to tell my husband he was right and I was wrong about the new washer, and not to mention the smell he has been complaining about. Yuck...
Explanation: I had washed towels in the new WHIRLPOOL and did not get around to folding them. Then after washing last night outside (yes outside) in the ole GE. I was folding the towels and happened to pick up the first set washed (Whirlpool); put them to my face and sniffed, yuck! WET DOG came to mind. Then sniffed the ones washed in the GE and he was right. I was wrong! Ugh... A $800+ Whirlpool is in the laundry room yet, I'm outside on the deck - again yes I'm hanging out with the mosquitoes on our deck washing clothes with the good ole GE. (It’s outside because it need a shutoff switch, or something like that.) Lesson learned the expensive way, don't buy a computerized Whirlpool washer. It's money down the drain... Needless to say I'm not happy at all with this product.

The machine is still under warranty so I called and I got an authorized repair person who came out and replaced the mixing valve.. then I went to wash clothes and yes all I got was cold water. The authorized repair person came out and could not figure why. He called Whirlpool tech dept and they told him it was working the way it was supposed to. In August of 2013 the lid on my Whirlpool Cabrio, model #WTW7800XW0 simply 'fell apart'. This washer was purchased from Lowe’s in Live Oak, Florida on August 23, 2010. Lowe’s put me in contact with the authorized repair service, A&E Factory Service. The A&E technician arrived and told me the hinges were the cause of the lid breaking apart. He ordered a new lid and new hinges. When the lid and hinges were delivered the technician came back to my home and looked at the hinges again and said they didn't 'look that bad' so he didn't bother even opening the box with the new hinges. He just put the new lid on and said I shouldn't have any further problem.
The total cost of the new lid, hinges and service call amounted to $385.50. Well, here it is - not even a year later and the same problem is back with me. Yesterday (July 23, 2014) I was doing a load of laundry. When the load was complete and the lid lock turned off - the lid actually sprung upward and now the lid won't close. It seems that Whirlpool is fully aware they either have a design flaw of defective lids and they are gouging the customers for their errors. The Cabrio model is supposed to be 'top of the line' - certainly not a cheap machine. I was, at least, happy with the performance of this machine cleaning my clothes properly but this lid problem is ridiculous. After about a couple months, the washer would be so stinking loud in the spin cycle, we would plan outside activities ha ha. Fast forward 2 years, the loud sound continues, but I've not had any problems. Then, I'm washing a load of bed sheets, and just happen to walk past the washer while it's spinning... I smelled something HOT and BURNING!
Sure enough, it was the washer! I hurried and stopped the spin and unplugged the machine. Opened the door to pull out my sheets, and white smoke comes pouring out of the machine. IT NEARLY STARTED A HOUSE FIRE. I was praising God I smelled the problem. Who knows what would have happened. So I call an appliance shop I trust. They send out a guy who tells me I might as well purchase a new machine because the bearing is bad, and the repair is going to cost $600+. Never again, Whirlpool. Never again. You don't endanger my family's safety in exchange for a quick buck on cheap parts. Ridiculous. And, now that I am reading all these reviews on this website about my washer, I am floored. We called Whirlpool, who were unwilling to do anything to rectify the situation, i.e., replace the washer, send a replacement part, give us a discount on the replacement part. We didn't buy the extended warranty because who would think that a brand new washer would crap out after 15 months... and there's only the two of us.

It is now three years old and has been repaired at least 4 times. Long story short... after hours & hours on the phone, along with many threats! (By the way I had to ask for a manager two times up the ladder for this to happen as they just kept repeating that it was out of warranty coverage). I also told them that I was going to have one of my company trucks deliver this machine to Sears lot, along with a paid person to inform every shopper of my plight with this washer and the lack of service from Sears and Whirlpool! Whirlpool finally agreed to pay for the parts but not the labor on this most current repair. (This time it is the transmission!! In the past it was the Hub, twice. The gear case twice and the belt a number of times).
I am now going back to Sears to request (that might not be the correct word) Demand, that they take care of the service bill for this machine. In between repairs, I have dealt with ongoing cleaning quality problems. This machine does not get clothes clean. I always have to wash them twice. This machine is loud. This machine does not use enough water to even dissolve the soap. So much for energy saving measures when you have to wash twice and still see soap and crud in the tub. Worst, worst, ever washing machine in my life!! By the way, I have an 8 year old Maytag too that I have never had to repair. Moral of the story, buy Maytag, or at least do not buy a Cabrio!!!!

After reading all of these reviews, I'm not surprised at the negative comments. My husband and I owned a Whirlpool washer and dryer for 25 years prior to them both dying the same summer four years ago. I absolutely would not purchase anything but another set of Whirlpool washer and dryer because of the longevity of our previous set.
We bought the Cabrio set 4 years ago this summer. After two years, we discovered it had a slow leak at the back hot water valve and underneath it somewhere when it spun and it had slowly leaked under the wall into our living room which eventually caused our hardwood floors to buckle. We had to replace the flooring in that section at a cost I will not even say and had a repairman come out and fix the lid lock, leak where for some reason there wasn't a washer in the valve area, underneath and the problem with the spin cycle. This was at a cost of around $200.00. Of course our one year warranty had run out.
The next year it did the SAME THING AGAIN!!! Although we caught it quicker, we STILL had to replace a small section of hardwood flooring and have the machine repaired yet again at the tune of approximately $200.00. Now, as I type, our machine has yet again flooded our laundry room one year later and I will have to call a repairman in the morning yet again! It's becoming an annual and costly thing!!!
I came across this site while looking to see if by chance this machine had been recalled and we would be able to get another one at no cost since we have already paid a fortune for the errors it has caused. I will be reporting to the Better Business Bureau and writing YET ANOTHER letter to the Whirlpool company with the hopes that they will recall this machine!! If enough people protest and report this shoddy workmanship, maybe they will!!!

Now after just two, repeat, two months of use, there is water all over the hardwood floors... The front door seal is gone to the tune of $100 but what about my floors!!!!!! I'm so discouraged after reading all the complaints that I'm falling out of my chair. Seal design has been the same on most all their front loaders. This was the third load today and the first one was towels, no damage, 2nd load whites and light underwear with some spotting, third load pair of pants and pair of shorts ruined. What is happening?

This washing machine is a piece of junk. It broke down exactly 2 days after the one year warranty expired. Home Depot said there was nothing they could do and Whirlpool said the same thing. This washing machine was not used on a weekly basis. It perhaps washed 20 loads during the course of the year. I had many issues with the sensors before it broke down completely. Sometimes, half the clothes would be dry after the entire cycle. I was so angry that I had a local independent contractor come in and look at it.
He said the motor was broken and needed to be replaced. So much for $700 down the drain. I will never buy a Whirlpool product again. This was the worst experience I've ever had with an appliance.

Whirlpool Cabrio - This expensive machine should be called the Presidential. First it spins, spins, spins. It sprays tiny amounts of water, so little, that there is 2 inches or less. There isn't enough water to cover the clothes so no agitator to stir and mix them. There are ridges on the bottom of the tub called aggrivators to twist everything into pretzels. This twisting spreads the dirt around, but does NOT remove it, the utter lack of water giving it no where to go. I use a hose to add extra water, and I hand soap dirty spots. I stop the "washer" frequently to hand rub and slop the clothes around and un-twist them.
Explain to me how running this machine 3 times plus adding water saves water and energy. I can't, in good conscience, sell this POS to someone else, and I can't afford something else. I sure miss my simple reliable old Maytag. I could say even more about this atrocity, but not now. I HATE THIS POS!

Had problems after the first 4 months - UL uneven load codes flashing up, and had to replace suspensions and bearings, boards, etc. Unfortunately within that 4 months I bought another Cabrio set to put in my vacation home. Started with the same issues and really hard to get a service technician to come out because of where we were located.
Customer service with Whirlpool sucks as well as Sears service. It is AMAZING to me that Whirlpool will NOT stand behind this product. The washer literally shook my home. 3 weeks later, the circuit board needs replacement (code F1). Estimate to repair - $325.00. The dryer is not working properly. I'm having to run the clothing thru 2 cycles.
Back to the washer. It shreds my towels. I've read where other consumers have had this same problem. These are expensive towels. The bearings gave out after 36 months of use, and our household comprises two adults in their mid-fifties. Estimated cost of the repair? $650! Why am I posting this here? Because two weeks ago, my daughter-in-law called to say that she'd so liked my machine when she visited in '09 - I'd had the thing for two weeks at that time - that she'd bought the WTW8500B and... the bearings were already giving out. I suggested she get the thing repaired, sell it immediately and replace it with an LG product, which is what I've done.
She has been put on a three-month waiting list for the repair, confirming my feeling that Whirlpool, as a whole, has gone down the tubes. Their service record is dreadful, with an excess of 20K complaints existing at various consumer agencies regarding ALL the Cabrio line, and their warranty, I've learned, is considered the worst in the industry. I was searching online and stumbled across this site. Funny that there were so many complaints about the "console" on the ovens, considering that my issue was with the console on a dryer I purchased. I have only had the dryer a year, and it stopped working. There is nothing else wrong with it, no codes, no problems with the lights, or anything else. A technician came out and found that it was a small plastic and metal "button" piece that helps the "press here: spot on the dryer panel to connect to the "start" button on the console. The little arm had broken and the switch no longer worked.
Figured we would have to purchase a new "button." NOPE, apparently we were told that we had to purchase a new console (over $200 dollars, close to $300 with shipping)???!!! We were also told that wear and tear can cause the issue. Wear and tear?? On a dryer that's maybe run once a week for about a year? Try again, I think I need my boots because it sounds like horse** to me.
I think I will pass this information along to people I know that are technicians so that they can let people know not to purchase from this company because they obviously aren't going to address the situation. I think I might also utilize social media to let people know so that they don't have to go through this much aggravation. I certainly don't know what we are going to do, since it took me a year to pay that dryer off, I can't afford another dryer at this time. I thought I'd spend the money get something good and it would last for years and years. Was I ever wrong. I bought the set and the extended warranty from Lowe's and my total with delivery was 2579.00. 20 days after the extended warranty expires (that I never used) the bearings on my Washer go bad. This thing in spin cycle sounds like a jet engine. I called to see if Lowe's would still honor my warranty because I never used it and they said no. I called Whirlpool and checked to see if there was a recall and they said no. I checked to see if there is anything they could do at all because this is a huge known issue and of course they said no. (Just look on YouTube for Whirlpool bearing replacement and the amount of views should indicate the amount of troubled users.)
Called a repair scheduled through Whirlpool's website to come look at it for a 75 dollar assessment and they said it would be about 500-550 to replace the outer tub - largely due to the fact it's labor intensive and the bearings are packed in the outer tub from the factory. I was like are you ** kidding me? I paid 1029 for the unit brand new in 2009 and 550 to fix? I said thank you to the repair guy and escorted him nicely out. Upon that I called back Whirlpool to tell them how displeased I am and how I will not be another product of theirs ever and mostly due to the fact they know this is a huge issue and won't do anything about it.
I will be going to Lowe's to see if the guy who sold me this pile of crap will work me a deal on another unit or set of another brand after I show him my receipt and express my displeasure with that product. If they won't do anything I will go to another store and spend my money elsewhere - I have choices and others do too. So if you are thinking about buying anything in the Cabrio line, don't. Go Samsung or LG - 10 year warranty straight from the manufacturer and costs 200-300 less than I paid for my washer dryer 5 years ago. We purchased a Whirlpool Cabrio washer & dryer in 2005. After CONTINUED issues with the washer during & after extended warranty, we decided to replace it in 2011. I'm not a fan of mismatched sets, so we also replaced the the dryer. After researching the WP Cabrio, we assumed that model was a fluke and reluctantly replaced with the Whirlpool Duet Set. Nearing our warranty expiration, our new washer has stalled for the 3rd time. Sears customer service has been absolutely dreadful since day 1. Original delivery was scheduled incorrectly, so we ended up picking it up. We then spent the next 3 months trying to get our military discount credited back. They promised at time of purchase it would be credited automatically.
After 2 hours wasted on the phone today, we are still without a working washer.. or even a date as to when it will be repaired. I was appalled at the condescending phone conversation I had with Sears rep. When service showed up last week, he knew immediately that 1 part was missing. He replaced the other 2 parts, and assured me he'd rush the 3rd part and come back out today. Had I not called, we would be receiving a phone call on Friday to say our part was backordered and not available until June. After a long and frustrating conversation, I was told we could have a "courtesy" $25 max a week for laundry, with a max of $100 per year. I was also told that it wasn't Sears fault the part wasn't ordered when I called the 1st time, and so the 21 day wait period didn't start until the service man caught the mistake. If we hit 21 days from that date, they supposedly will do some sort of swap.
I have confirmed with WP that the part is on back order, and frankly they didn't do anything either.. but the rep was much more apologetic. They couldn't do much because our warranty is through Sears and not them directly. My great niece is coming in 2 weeks for the 1st time since she was put on hospice, and I will be without a washer to clean her cloth diapers. She is on a very specific diet and has a feeding tube, so I will have to waste time hand washing clothes instead of savoring her visit. I will never shop at SEARS again. They have continued to go downhill with all the corporate changes. I left the corporate world a couple of years ago, and I can tell you that Sears doesn't take "no" or "sorry" from their vendors. I'm very upset and intend to take this to another level, which I rarely do.

I know if a dealer attempts 4 or more repairs on your car for the same problem unsuccessfully, it qualifies for the lemon law. $800 for a washing machine that dumps water all over my floor and no one can seem to fix it. Well I'm done, Whirlpool. Next time I will purchase a plain washer with no bells or whistles and it won't be made by Whirlpool!

Bought the washer from HH Gregg for over $560 12/2012. Turned on power 4/2014 and just heard clicking noises then nothing. Had to get technician. Paid for $75 service charge and waiting for cost of labor and part for the lid lock/latch assembly. I see a lot of complaints with this new machine. I bought a new one BECAUSE I did not want any problems with repairs. Whirlpool is ripping off the consumer passing out this piece of discombobulated metal, wires and electronics. An appliance like this should last AT LEAST 7 years without a problem. I wish there was a class action lawsuit and will be waiting to the day it surely comes.

I have had my washer dryer set for only 3 years and have all the problems that have already been posted. Whirlpool has no recall on this washer (Cabrio) and does not plan on helping out anybody in any way. Their solution is pay for everything out of pocket or buy their one year warranty for ironically the price of what a new motor, and any of the other common items that are breaking would cost. And this is only good for ONE year. With the history of this company I would expect this to last at least ten years or longer before we start discussing replacing anything. I also had a Maytag that I had a problem with and did not get anywhere with that either. Whirlpool/Maytag, you need to stand behind your product. Your name is not going to get you anywhere nowadays. This blog has a spot about legal representation. If you can help me, please contact me.

I am writing to you all today to urge you to not purchase Whirlpool products specifically Whirlpool 2-cu ft High-Efficiency Front-Load Washer. I purchased a front loader washing machine for our tenants through Sears back in June of 2013. When it was hooked up it had an error code on it so we contacted Sears and 3 weeks later they sent out a repairman telling us it needed a new motor (this machine had not even washed 1 load of laundry). They ordered the part and Sears paid 1200 to replace a part on an 800.00 washer.....yeah I know dumb right. Well the part replacement did not work. (Surprised) They ordered and delivered a new washer 1 month later....same error code. Let's try again with another washer......same error code. How about another one......water would not stop running into the machine because the sensor was broken. Wait we are not done how about another one.....same error code. No I am not kidding, 10 months later 5 washing machines and my tenants have yet to have been able to wash a single load of laundry.
I have been reimbursing my tenants every month for not having a washer for the past 10 months. I finally had Sears reimburse for the washer which they will pick up soon. I am out all the interest for the past 10 months for a product never used. To top it all off I called Whirlpool directly to see if they would be willing to at least give me a coupon for any amount toward the purchase of a different washer. They told me quote "We don't do anything to compensate our customer for their troubles." That is the icing on the cake folks!!! I will never purchase another Whirlpool product and I encourage you all to not as well. I want to show them how not caring for their customers can impact them. Please share if you can, but more importantly please pass the word!!!!!

We purchased a Whirlpool Cabrio washer brand new from Lowe's. It did great for about 6 months when a terrible grinding noise started. Then it also would not spin dry the clothes - they would come out completely soaked. Repair guy came out and fixed it. Lasted for about 1 year - same thing again. Lasted about 1.5 years this time and now the loud grinding is back and my wife - who I've heard cuss just a couple times in 20+ years - said, "This ** thing sucks. The clothes are soaked. I can't stand this washing machine." So, Off we go to buy a new machine. Definitely not a Whirlpool though. I'd give this machine 1 star because it does a decent job for a while but major repairs 3 times in five years is not what I deem an acceptable appliance.

I have had my Cabrio for a year now and quite frankly, I find more satisfaction taking all of my laundry to a local laundromat. There is no soak cycle and when you have a kid in sports, that doesn't help. There is no agitator, and I am now convinced that they were originally in all washers for a reason. My clothes have all worn out and are shredding, not to mention my very expensive bath towels that I am now cutting into rags. This was the worst purchase I have ever made in my life and will never even look at a Whirlpool again. When I bought my house, I had a Maytag that was 35 years old and it did a better job than the new Cabrio. Should have stuck with that brand!

The W/D combo-Cabrio is crap... Don't buy it. Salesperson @ Lowe's told us all washers moving away from the agitator to ones like this so we bought it. The washers does not clean everything - does not use enough water to clean - leaves your delicates so wrinkled and clothes in general "beat up". The dryer decides when it thinks your clothes are dry when they are actually still very wet... very noisy. Whirlpool must have sold out because quality integrity sure is gone.

One day after the one year warranty expired on my washer, the washer decided it was going to break continuously. Thank goodness I had the forethought to buy the extended warranty which is not something I always do... We've been married almost 39 years and have used nothing but Whirlpool for all the years, but after this would NEVER buy another Whirlpool appliance. The first time they came out, the washer would not rinse and spin out the water. One of their warranty people from Direct Maytag came out and fixed it. Although I never had an appliance repairman fix something and leave it in the middle of the floor when he was done. Then about 4 weeks later, all of a sudden, the washer was tripping the GFI.
It took a week to get a repairman out and in that week I could get 1 load of laundry done a day by waiting and keeping reset the GFI. The repairman came - a different man from the same company - and was told I wasn't supposed to have it on a GFI even though city ordinance requires it. The repairman put the washer through all the cycles and declared nothing wrong. I had an electrician come out and got rid of the GFI outlet. Okay fast forward about 3 weeks and surprise!! Washer not draining and spinning out water again. Repairman scheduled to come back Thursday. Ugh!! Not good with a 2-year-old in the house!!

I bought a whirlpool cabrio with high hopes. Unfortunately, it has been the worst washing machine I have ever had. Then I moved in with my fiance and he too had a cabrio. It too is a piece of junk - and brand new! Every load comes out with left over residue and the clothes look worse than before they went in! I have tried everything and I do mean everything! I'M 41 y.o. - I'M well aware of how to load a machine. I load it just the way the instructions say: as if there was an agitator there. I've tried using no laundry detergent or fabric softener - clothes still come out disgusting.
I've made sure the screens are clean, doing extra small loads, turning on the extra rinse, everything! I've called whirlpool, but there is no such thing as ''customer service" anymore. They just blamed me for not loading the clothes properly and blew me off. The machine becomes unbalanced very easily (it is leveled on the floor), sometimes the clothes are still soaking wet at the end of the cycle and sometimes all knotted up. This is a horrible machine!! I wish I could say it makes me feel better that I'M, by far, not the only one having issues with this piece of junk!

Have owned my Cabrio for 5 1/2 years. Within the 1st 60 days it wouldn't work due to an error code. This got fixed. 1.5 yrs later f1 kept showing up at 15 -18 minute left. Had to pause and restart. Called Whirlpool and said it would cost about $400. Forget that I dealt with it for another year or so. Checked online 6 months ago and seen a recall. Whirlpool said they will replace part, but I have to pay for repairman. Called the BBB and got this resolved at no cost. Now 90 days later it won't spin. Took machine apart and hub gear that goes over spider shaft, the teeth was worn. Also now noticed on the section of the metal spider shaft that the hub goes on was also worn down.
Hub slides over shaft and stays in place from the top to 3/4 of the way down. Then at the bottom of worn shaft is where this hub will spin around shaft (which is not what it's suppose to do). I look for a replacement shaft at 2 different parts direct sites. The Whirlpool parts direct site informed me why I could not find the part. It's part of the outer basket which means I have to shell out + $200 to fix this. Also noticing when had machine opened it had about the same amount of rust that my 20 year old Kenmore (Whirlpool model) had (that still worked) that I replaced with this more efficient Cabrio. Now 5 1/2 years later my machine is dismantled and I am going to the laundry mat.

The technician was nice enough to explain to me that it's a common problem with those machines. However, Whirlpool is not willing to stand by their product and repair it free of charge. Any other product would of been recalled and repaired. That goes for cars, baby products, and so on. But not Whirlpool, I called and spoke to Andrea in Michigan who told me that there is nothing that they are willing to do.

My daughter purchased a Cabrio washer and dryer a little over 2 years ago. About 6 months ago, the plastic washer lid began to warp and became difficult to close. It has since broken at the hinge and is close to being impossible to use. This is after 1 1/2 years of normal use. This is the response she received from Doris **, an e-Solutions Specialist from the Whirlpool Customer eXperience Center: "I am sorry to learn that your washer lid has warped and cracked. Once a product warranty has expired (1 year), any costs for maintenance, service, or component replacements are then within the owners' frame of responsibility." She went on to offer service, at my daughter's expense, from a Whirlpool technician. This is clearly a design flaw which Whirlpool needs to take responsibility for. I've read countless complaints about this same problem on several websites, with some independent technicians calling it a safety issue. Whirlpool needs to step up.

This happens all the time, requiring whole loads of clothes to be rewashed, sometimes more than once. This defeats the whole purpose of conserving water, which is reflected in our water bill. We also placed the laundry room on the second floor to make it easier for me with my disabilities. I am ready to pick up this stupid washing machine and pitch it in the junk pile! Soap on clothes so I have to redo ... except many times it takes forever to get the stupid machine to restart... Most times I end up rinsing things by hand in the sink. We are constantly itchy from soap residue. My clothes do not come out clean. Especially the towels. Clothes are not spun out as much as they should be... Have been doing it over again by hand many times... which is not good because They still have way too much water in them and it takes 2 -3 Times longer to dry them! I am so disappointed in this set.
I always thought Whirlpool was a great brand but, sadly, I was terribly mistaken. Never again. Finally got someone to say they have to replace all the controls. They say they will send parts but I have to pay someone to change it out... sounds like they admit there is a problem but will not accept full responsibility for it. I did not make the item so why do I have to pay to have it fixed? I believe they should issue a recall and make all of us believers in them again. I guess it's my fault for buying their product? Not more than a year and a half after spending thousands of dollars on their products the troubles started. I called the company and they sent someone out to look at it for repair. He vacuumed out the lines and kept restarting it over and over and eventually it started working again and they charged a hundred dollars and something and said there most likely be more problems since they have many calls on this issue.
Sure enough it started again and just kept retrying it over and over to get it to work again as well as vacuumed the lines again like he did. Now it's at the point it will not work no matter what. It just keeps flashing LD and shuts down. So I did a online search for other consumers having the same problem and was shocked by the amount of the same problem with others (search this model flashing LD and you will see for yourself). When I contacted Whirlpool they played dumb and lied right thru their teeth saying they have no issues with this model and refused to do anything.
I have since learned there has been court cases where the courts ruled against them saying that it was defective and had to notify consumers which they never did. Even when the repairman came out nothing was said. I have since learned that all they did was changed the name to a different model which is having the same problem (no kidding!!) and continued to rip the public off in the name of CORPORATE Greed!!!!! I advise everybody never to purchase a Whirlpool product ever again and maybe we can bankrupt them and put them out of business where they belong.
All the customer service agents deserve to be unemployed and suffering after long waits on the phone and then lying straight face to the consumers. Pure evil!!!! We all have to stick together and bring these criminals down. How can they say we have no issues when a simple search of Whirlpool Calypso problems with draining and flashing LD and shutting down. There are thousands of people complaining and no action is done. Shame on these people and their souls are lost forever. Never buy a Whirlpool product and tell everybody you know to stay away! They should have their ** and/or ** cut off and have to suffer the same way the struggling consumers are after scrounging up thousands of dollars for a 200-pound metal paper weight that ain't worth a damn!!!!
