We just got a high-end Jenn-Air double oven (JJW2827WS). We were so excited about the options and its handsome looks. But we started cooking and while using the timer and bake options, we discovered a sequence of temperature changes and timer use, the E1 error comes up. You must turn off the power to reset this error. They replaced the keypad (ECC unit) which caused many new problems to occur (like locking the bottom oven permanently). The old panel went back in. Turns out this is problem is typical in this model (a bug in the software)!! Jenn-Air is made by Whirlpool (KitchenAid). The last KitchenAid oven was returned due to malfunctions! I am avoiding KitchenAid, now...

I was cooking with two burners on. I heard an electrical pop, with the stove circuit breaking off. My husband took the top off, to discover under the control panel, by the left burner, the manufacturer had taped the positive and negative wires together. The red and black wires were taped separately then taped together.
It looks as though over time, since they get hot, the taped melded together, causing the electrical short. I will bet all stoves of this model were taped together the same way. We do not use our stove on a regular basis, or it probably would have happened sooner. The stove is about 5 years old. We thought at first it was the left front burner, since that is where the sparks and smoke came out.
My husband took off the entire surface to discover what the wiring problem was. He is an electrician, so he was able to fix it. He also said that if I had been touching any metal on the stove, I may have been electrocuted, from the 240 amp. Other consumer may not be so lucky!

On April 10, 2010, I used my range to cook noodles. I used the power burner that is located on the front left side on the range. I turned off the noodles and moved the pan to the back burner. I then picked up my 18-month-old baby and reached up, accidentally touching the calf of his leg to the front of the stove between the control knobs. The front part of the stove was so hot that it gave my son second-degree burns on his calf. The burn goes from below the knee to the top of the ankle. He has been in terrible pain.
I have had the stove for a few months and did not know that the front of the stove get so hot. I understand the top being hot due to the fire, but the front of stove being hot was not brought to my attention until this incident. I think there should be a warning and the power burner should be located at the back of the stove. I am very concerned that this may happen to someone else.

After 11 months of owning my Whirlpool Gold self-cleaning oven, I finally used the self-cleaning and the front glass of the oven shattered. Whirlpool replaced at their expense; however, in month 23 of owning, I used it again and the thermostat blew. I called Whirlpool and they won't help me. The technician informed me these ovens are defective and if we use the self-cleaning again, there is nothing they can do. What's the point! I have paid over $300 to make repairs to a 23-month-old oven. This is ridiculous.

We updated our kitchen, replaced all major kitchen appliances in November 2009. All are stainless steel Whirlpool. I chose Whirlpool because of our good experience with that brand in the past. The ones replaced were Whirlpool. NOW for the nightmare, Whirlpool range model #RF263LXTS, serial #RY4623966. The top cooking elements are coil type. The coil cooking elements are not the problem. When the oven is in use, the entire top surface gets so hot you cannot touch it for 2 SECONDS! This range has NO insulation, none, that would prevent this from happening.
I called Whirlpool, told Nacole, Babs, Sam and Jim all the same thing about my VERY hot surface range, all the time making notes as we spoke. They all said this was normal with this model! They were very rude and seemed to not care. You do not have to be a rocket scientist to know when something is dangerously too hot. What good is a Warranty when the Company will not honor it? I got no help from them but I have not given up yet. I can't believe a company like Whirlpool sells such poor, actually worse than that, quality products now.

I purchased a Whirlpool, stainless steel package for my kitchen. The range has not worked since we receive it. Everything in the oven burns. Two different service companies replaced everything in the oven that can be replaced.
The service tech was told by one of the Whirlpool service technical reps to go to the store and buy a cake mix and bake it to see what the oven is doing. I called them after service representative's visit number 6. I was told that I would receive a call in 24-48 hours to make arrangements... to puck-up the stove. Needless to say, I have not heard from anyone. I guess I will call them again and again.

I purchased a KitchenAid Gas Range from the Coop store in Fredericton in late 2006. The oven did not work properly from day 1. I phoned the Coop store and they told me to phone someone who only did commercial work. When I phoned the Coop back, they told me to call Whirlpool. When I called Whirlpool, it turned out that although they sell the ranges in Fredericton, they have no one to service them. They did not offer any alternative. Finally, after writing letters to their senior officials, they suggested I get somebody to come in and they would reimburse me. I did this and they partially fixed the problem.
I submitted the receipt but never heard back from Whirlpool. After years of the oven partially working (it did work reasonably well, just occasionally not starting), it gave up the ghost on Christmas Day 2009. I contacted Whirlpool again and they told me to phone one dealer who did not service Gas ranges, and another who did not service our area, finally admitting they had no one to service this area so go find someone myself. I did this and a technician came in and thought he knew what was wrong. He called Whirlpool to order the part but they wouldn't let him talk to their technical support as he wasn't an authorized dealer. He said I would have to order the part myself and told me to ask for a Solenoid Gas Valve. I did this and they sent out a part.
I called the technician again and he couldn't get back for a month. When he did come back, he told me they had sent the wrong part. I phoned again and this time, the parts guy brought up a parts schematic and I was able to identify the right part to him. They sent that out and he installed it and it seems to be working. They wouldn't let me send back the previous part because it was over 30 days. All told the oven has been out of service for 4 months since I bought it and I have spent in excess of 900 dollars on service and parts for something that should have been fixed on day 1. I don't feel they should be selling items in areas where they don't service them, and if they do, they should make the buyer aware that they don't offer service in the area.

In November I purchased a Whirlpool flattop electric range. The service tech just left again. The oven was running about 20 degrees too hot. Everything burns on the bottom, and the turkey dried out. The flattop burners run either hotter or they shut off as, the tech says, they are supposed to. How are you supposed to simmer anything if the burner is either hot or cool? There is no adjustment that can be made, I was told. I guess no one at Whirlpool uses the ranges to cook much or tests their products.
My stainless steel front has rust on it already. Luckily, that can be replaced and does not interfere with cooking. I replaced our older Whirlpool flattop range for this one because I wanted it stainless, but that one worked perfect. I called the place where I bought it from and Whirlpool, but both were no help at all. I cant cook or bake on my new range, what good is it to me? Maybe companies should stand by their products. I'm getting tired of throwing away burnt food.

In December of 2009, I noticed a strong odor coming from my Whirlpool Gas Range when I used the oven. Sometimes the odor appeared to be stronger than others. I thought maybe the odor would go away, so I continued to use the range. On January 3, 2010, I started feeling as if I was coming down with the flu. I had shortness of breath, extreme fatigue, and chest pains. I remained home from work trying to recuperate thinking I had the flu. I didn't go out of the house, thinking that staying home, cooking my own food (baking), and resting would help me feel better. I did not feel better, I felt worse, but I did not have a cold or the flu.
On January 5, 2010, I went to the hospital ER with complaints of shortness of breath, chest pain and body aches. After numerous tests, the ER doctor felt that maybe I was developing some strain of the flu. Even though I literally begged for more tests, I was released with discharge paperwork indicating a possible 'cardiac' problem or possible 'blood clot' either in the lungs or near the heart. I was put on bed rest. I remained out of work until Jan. 11, 2010. I saw the Cardiologist, but no tests were conducted because my blood pressure had elevated to high levels. It was feared that I would have a stroke on the stress machine, so the cardiologist put me on high blood pressure meds and sent me home.
I returned home, only to go straight to work each day and come straight home. It took everything in me to make it to work each day. After taking the 5 days off from work without pay (Jan. 4-8), I couldn't afford to take more time off. I was completely exhausted each day, coming home to 'bake' dinner in my Whirlpool Oven. After seeing the cardiologist on Jan. 7th, on or about Jan. 10-11 I developed a dry, chronic cough, which occurred throughout the day and most of the night. I still had extreme fatigue and shortness of breath, and headache. However, I still did not have the flu or a cold.
It was around the Jan. 15, that I stopped cooking as I was too fatigued to do so because I stayed up most nights coughing so much. I thought that maybe the High Blood pressure medication (Lisinopril) was making me cough, so I went back to the Cardiologist on or about Jan. 26. The cardiologist changed my HB meds from Lisinopril to Benicar. However, I didn't take Benicar that night because I was instructed to start it the next day. On the night of Jan. 26th, I noticed my face starting to swell.
On Jan. 27th, my face was swollen even more and even though I was no longer taking Lisinopril, I was still coughing. Immediately after getting off work on Jan. 27th, I went to the walk-in clinic, Take Care Clinic at Walgreens. I was diagnosed with Upper Respiratory Infection and Allergic Rhinitis. I was placed on steroids, Prednisone and a prescription cough medicine.
On Sat. Jan. 30, I started feeling better and decided to cook myself dinner, in my Whirlpool Gas Oven. I immediately noticed the odor coming from the oven. I decided to try the oven once more on Monday, Feb. 1 to see if I smelled the odor. I did. So I called my Gas Company, Austell Natural Gas and asked for someone to come check the oven because I 'thought' I had a possible gas leak. When the technician checked the oven, the buzzer from his machine went off immediately. He told me (and left documentation stating) that there was not a gas leak but rather a high level of Carbon Monoxide coming from my oven when it was in use. He recommended that I not turn the oven back on and to call the manufacturer, Whirlpool for resolution. I did just that.
On Tuesday, Feb. 2, I contacted Whirpool. I was connected with Monica ** in the 'safety' department of Whirpool. I explained (in detail) what Austell Gas had detected with the Gas Range. I provided all information, model number, serial number, etc. Monica stated that they would have to send out a technician from a subcontractor company to 'check' the gas range and assess whether the range could be repaired. If it could not be repaired, Monica ** stated that it would be replaced. She stated that given the nature of the problem, I would not be charged for anything. I explained to the Whirpool Representative, Monica Alridge, that I had been back and forward to the ER, the Cardiologist, clinic etc. and that I had lost a lot of time off from work (without pay).
I asked her if there was a way for Whirlpool to simply replace the range, as it would give me peace of mind and as well could give Whirpool peace of mind knowing that the defective or faulty range had been replaced. She declined to offer me this. I was told that I would be contacted by the subcontractor, A&E Appliances to set up an appointment for them to come to my home to access the problem. Monica recommended that I contact my Primary Care Physician and ask to be tested for Carbon Monoxide Poisoning/Exposure. I did just that.
I contacted my Primary Care Physician and was tested for CO Poisoning at the hospital. I had a blood gas test with carboxyhemoglobin conducted on Feb. 4 and 5. The test results appeared to be within normal range. I am thankful that the tests came back normal. However, I wish I had this test done on Jan. 5, when I went to the ER. Had I known that I was exposed to Carbon Monoxide, I would have been able to tell the doctors and ER nurses, and they would have been able to give me the blood gas test with carboxyhemoglobin test then.
On Feb. 5, the technician from A & E factory services was sent out by Whirlpool. The technician tested my gas range and stated that he did find a carbon monoxide leak coming from the oven. He stated that he opened the vent to allow more air to pass through for more ventilation on the oven. He did not test the oven while it was preheating but rather after it had been on for quite some time. He told me that the oven was completely fixed and safe to use. I told the technician that I still smelled the same strong odor coming from the oven. The technician stated that due to his 'allergies' he couldn't smell anything.Because I was still concerned, particularly because I could still smell the strong odor, I called back to Whirlpool and spoke again with Monica**.
I told her that I appreciated them sending someone out to repair the range, but could still smell the strong odor coming from the oven when I turned it on. I advised Ms. Monica ** that I noticed where Dave from A & E had billed Whirlpool for the work he conducted at a rate of $163.00. I asked her from a consumer safety perspective, and from better business practices, would it not have been more conducive to simply 'replace' the oven, rather than paying for costly repairs? I did not mean to offend her, but she immediately became defensive and rude with me.
I told her that because I could still smell the strong odor coming from the oven, I would need to follow up and have the oven checked once more to give me peace of mind. I advised her that I thought with all of the problems, doctor's visits, ER visits, days off from work (without pay), numerous calls to her office, it was an inconvenience to me as a customer to have to follow up once again to have the oven checked.
Monica ** was non-responsive and did not ever offer to simply replace the oven. I ended my call with Ms. **/Whirpool and immediately called Austell Gas Company and requested that they please come back out to recheck the oven. I explained that since I had first called them on Monday, Feb. 1, I had contacted Whirpool and they had sent out A & E Appliances to repair the carbon monoxide leak. The technician from Austell Gas Company checked my Whirlpool Oven and found that it still has extremely high levels of carbon monoxide. He recommended that I not use the oven, but if I insisted on using it, he recommended that the doors and the windows in my home be open. He stated that at such high levels, if anyone were to stand next to the oven, they would surely be affected. While he was testing the oven, he literally had to move away from the kitchen as he stated it was burning his nose.
He wrote up his findings and left paperwork indicating that during the preheating of the oven, that is when the CO levels are extremely high, so high it set off his alarm, which continued to alarm. At this point, I have an beautiful Whirlpool Gas Range, that I am literally afraid to use. Although my health issues appear to be much better than earlier in the month of January, I have not had any cardiac or heart related issues prior to all of this happening. I've never had a blood clot, I don't smoke, and have not been on high blood pressure medications.
I am thankful that I found the Carbon Monoxide leak. However, I feel that Whirlpool has taken minimal action to resolve this issue. I understand that 'repairing' products is the norm. However, when you are speaking of Carbon Monoxide leaks, which could ultimately cause death or severe injury or brain damage from long term effects, I do not feel that simply attempting to repair or fix a CO leak is feasible. Paying $163 for a repair that obviously did not fix the problem, is not conducive to me as a consumer, as my health and my life still remains at risk. Nor is a $163 repair that did not fix the problem, a good business move for Whirlpool.
I am very dissatisfied at how Whirlpool has handled this entire ordeal. I am disappointed in the way in which they treated me as a customer. All of my appliances are Whirlpool appliances and have been for years. This is a very poor way to treat customers, as my life is literally at stake here. I was treated as if I was just another number. I do not believe they understand or even care about the severity of the problem. My health, my life and well-being are at stake and Ms. Monica **/Whirlpool simply could care less. They attempted to quickly 'fix' a problem that has not been fixed.
They were willing to risk the possibility of wasting $163 on a repair (that didn't fix the problem), than simply replacing the faulty Gas Range/Oven to ensure my safety and well-being. I wish I had known that the oven was leaking Carbon Monoxide when I went to the Emergency Room on Jan. 5th and even when I went to the Walk-In Clinic and the Cardiologist. I am confident that Carbon Monoxide would have been detected in my system. I have never felt such disorientation, discomfort, fatigue, chest pain and shortness of breath before (in my entire life).
It scares me to think that I still have this defective range even in my home. I feel unsafe and I am concerned about how many other consumers out there may be going through the same thing, but are unaware to even mention or ask their doctors to be tested for Carbon Monoxide Poisoning. This is a very serious matter, that Whirlpool doesn't seem to care much about. Perhaps, had I died in my home, they may have taken this matter a little more seriously. I am very disappointed.

I can't believe that Whirlpool claims they have no problems with any of their stoves. I also have called them 5 times. Our stove locked up when using the self-cleaning. They finally agreed to pay for all parts, but not labor. After calling one of Whirlpool's approved repair places, 4 house calls and nothing being fixed, I called back and told them to take the company off their approved list because they don't know how to repair anything right at our house. We have burnt our leg on it. We did a temperature test on the out side of the oven door at 450 for 45 minutes and it shot up to 201 degrees just on the outside. We are concerned for our grand-baby of touching or falling next to it.
I have called and talked with the property manager with my concern on this and he did not care. He said that the appliance guy said the oven was workable, but when they came out to test it, they said yes it does get hot but it seems to be working okay. I have gone round and around with Jomba at this company. I ended up taking that stove out, storing it in the garage and replace it with another stove that is safer. In the tenant right act book, it says that the landlord needs to provide safe appliances and that is not happening in our case.

We wrote a letter this morning to the complaint department of Whirlpool describing the dilemma we are in concerning built-in electric ovens we bought from them for our new condo seven years ago:
Basically, aside from a few minor problems in seven years, in 2009, we began to experience major problems such as the malfunctioning of the control board. At first the trouble was sporadic: Periodically, the digital temp readout would not show themselves; I could neither choose the baking temp for cakes or puddings nor could I lower temps at the end of baking. Next, we could no activate the timer, so food was under or overcooked. And then came the biggest problem: we could neither turn the ovens on or off. This destroyed any planning time for cooking. For example, I would defrost meat or chicken only to find that the ovens were not working.
We lived this way approximately three months when we were finally and truly upset with the product because we could no longer plan or prepare for important holidays. We found a local Whirlpool dealer who sent a "repair" person. As seniors, who use all Whirlpool products in our kitchen, we were overwhelmed to learn that the control board would have to be replaced and not repaired for $300. And worse, we would need to wait three to four months for the replacement. A four-month turnaround is a very poor business operation, but we had no recourse. And finally today, this morning the repair person arrived with the $300 control board replacement, only to dismantle the face panel and find a ribbon cable (that supplies power and signal to the control board) dried and cracked! Guess what? This can't be fixed. We would have to replace it.
When we add insult to injury, we exceed our budget over $500. The insulting situation we are in now is whether to accept poor quality parts to repair our eight year old ovens or throw out the ovens and replace them with another brand. We were not aware that when parts break down, they cannot be repaired. They need to be "replaced" instead.

On June 24, 2009, I purchased a Whirlpool stove (Model #: WFG114SVBO Serial 3: VEY0504134) from Midway Appliance in Victorville, CA. On January 5th of 2010, I smelled a gas leak coming from the stove and reported it to Midway. They told me they couldn't do anything about it until the following Wednesday (13th of Jan). On Sunday, the 11th, our stove caught fire while we were making breakfast for our kids. I then went to tell Midway about it and they said that they were going to send someone out to see it on Monday.
Then an inexperienced technician said it was caused by the grease on the stove. I never knew that grease could cause such an extreme heat that would burn the burners when the stove is fairly new. They refused to take care of it and said they had only been dealing with Whirlpool for about a year and that their products were bad anyways. I purchased range #WFE361LVSO on 10/1/09. It did not keep the correct oven temperature. I ordered service call. They came out on 10/31 and had to order parts. The parts finally came on Nov 10. Service was supposed to be here between 8-12. They showed up at 6 p.m. (I took a day off for nothing). They replaced the temperature sensor and computer panel. This seemed to work for a little while. On December 20th, the problem reared its ugly head again. I called Whirlpool (Nicole). She agreed that the unit should be replaced.
I didn't hear from anyone within 24 hours so I called again - the response was "Nicole didn't put that in the notes". It was a complete run-around 3 days before Christmas. They finally informed me that I'd get my new stove in 7-10 business days. That's just perfect as I was having 20 people to my house for Christmas dinner - the new stove would be here by New Year's! In a desperate attempt, I called the manager at Lowe's (where I purchased the unit) in Dayville, CT in the hopes that maybe he could intervene on my behalf w/ Whirlpool. He told me to get a return authorization number from them and he'd deliver a new unit that afternoon! Great, I thought.
I called Whirlpool back. Their response was that it was IMPOSSIBLE to give me an RA number. I called Lowe's back - he called them and got the same response. Manager at Lowe's was so disgusted with them that he had a new unit delivered to me the next day. New unit wasn't much better than the first. However, I made it through Christmas dinner even though I had to stand in front of the stove the whole time the meals were in the oven so the temperature didn't go up to 500 degrees (I had to keep opening the door to cool it off).
Lowe's called the day after Christmas to make sure everything was okay - they delivered yet another new range on 12/27. Range #3 was okay for a week - same problem. You can set the temp on 350 deg; top temp in oven is anywhere between 250 deg and 325 deg and then it will suddenly rise to 400 deg. I called Whirlpool again - Reena, the supervisor, told me the temp needed to be "re-calibrated" and told me to look at the manual. I argued that the temperature swing was too erratic - she ordered yet another service call (great, another day off). She refused to allow me to talk w/ HER supervisor. I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!

I bought a Whirlpool electric double wall oven. One of the reasons I bought it was that both ovens had a self-cleaning cycle. Every single time I use the self-cleaning cycle, something breaks. If I clean the top oven, the heat would melt the circuitry in the control panel on top of the oven and render it inoperable. I would have to have a service call. So, I stopped running the self-clean and did it the old-fashioned way. The last service tech we had said that the oven should never be self-cleaned as the heat always caused problems. I wrote to Whirlpool several times (to the attention of the President by name) and got no response. The last straw was this week when I ran the self-clean on the bottom oven. I thought that the distance between the bottom oven and control panel would save the control panel and it did. However, it ruined the heating element and now that oven will not heat up. A service tech told us that it would be expensive and be a two-person job as the oven would have to be pulled out of the wall to be repaired. We have decided to replace the unit but I wanted others to know that this product has bad design and that Whirlpool has no interest in standing behind its products. We will be looking at GE, Bosch or Electrolux.

I just want to report that whoever designed the grates for the Whirlpool gas cooktops never used one in their life. The sauce pans and the pots rock from side to side because the grates are not flat. They are higher right over the center of the burner. I called and the tech arrived the next day. He could not believe it and we agreed that this was not safe for hot liquids in pots or pans. He called it in and they sent me another set of grates. They were the very same way. A few days later, we were visiting some friends who just built a new home and used the top line gas cooktop by Whirlpool. Guess what? The grates were not level and had the same problem as mine. Whirlpool is not interested in hearing anymore about it. I just wanted to let people know, if you are thinking about buying a Whirlpool gas cooktop, take your pots and pans to the store with you to make sure they sit level and flat on the one you are buying.

I cleaned by brand new Whirlpool oven for the first time and the glass door became permanently stained with grease. This is a defect in this model #gfe461lvs0. Whirlpool said that this does occur and because it is cosmetic and not a functional defect they would not take it back. They sent someone to replace the glass. They told me to use a store product rather than use the self cleaning device to prevent this from occurring again. This is crazy. They are also sending me $75 and extending the warranty for a year BUT ONLY ON A FUNCTIONING DEFECT, NOT ON THIS PROBLEM OF THE DOOR BECOMING FILTHY PERMANENTLY. Our Whirlpool gas range keeps turning itself on without a person realizing that it has happened. The knobs are on the front of the unit and if your body passes it by, it can turn on the gas without knowing. We came home from being out the other day and smelt gas in the house. It was caused from the Whirlpool Gold Gas Range leaking gas after one of the knobs had been accidentally brushed past it. Knobs should either be put on top of the range or a safety device designed to prevent this accident from happening.Luckily, we got the gas turned off in time to avoid a disaster.

My problem is that every time that I use my stove, the knobs in front of the stove move when I'm not even aware. When I start to smell gas is when I noticed that I must have gotten too close to the knobs and turn them on with my body. If I were to ever design a stove, I would put the knobs right on top of the stove itself and nobody can get hurt this way. Even a child is able to turn on the stove. This is very dangerous. I am sure you had other customers complaining about this. If not, then I think it's a good idea to have a different design in the future for the safety of your customers. It is very annoying every time this happens to me or someone else in my family.

My experience tonight with my Whirlpool gas range prompted me to write to tell you that I think the Whirlpool makes the worst appliances. I built a new home 3 years ago and had a Whirlpool gas range and dishwasher. Right from the beginning, my stove didn't work right - the ignitor for the oven was defective and wouldn't turn on when I was ready to bake or cook and had to be replaced by a local firm. The part he got from Whirlpool did not fix the problem. He got another part - still not resolved. Finally after many phone calls and complaints to Whirlpool, they finally came and fixed it again about 6 months ago. All was ok until tonight when I was trying to bake Christmas cookies. The oven wouldn't go on again! Apparently, the part they replaced has bitten the dust. Whirlpool has all my complaints and service calls. I dislike their customer service so much; I don't even want to call them again.
I made a long story short, but I believe I got a "lemon" stove and it should have been replaced. I see others have had no better luck with their appliances. With such an unreliable stove, I will probably go out and buy another brand and hope this one goes in the junk heap where it belongs. My dishwasher is just ok - had to have that repaired once also. 3-year-old appliances should not be this troublesome, unless they are so poorly made.

I tried to grab the turkey and boiling liquid splashed out of the pan and onto my arm. I have been making turkeys of this size for years and never has an oven rack not supported it or pulled out of the side tracks like that. So, I used just the top part of the oven until yesterday, when the top control panel issued error codes E6 (red LED) and F2 (blue LED). I checked the fuse in the master fuse box and the oven fuse is not thrown and the lights in the oven still work. I've been on the phone from 9:00 to 10:15 this morning (mainly on hold) trying to report the problem to Whirlpool.
The answering service was located in Texas and the woman was truly trying her best. I received the name of a "local" service, which is not local to me for I'm 18 miles from town in Tomales, CA. The earliest time for an appointment is next Wednesday. I'm retired from the computer industry and using my background in computer circuitry. In 2002, I purchased a Whirlpool Gold range from Sears Canada. After about 1 year of operation, the stove timer displayed an error message indicating the timer had failed - of course, the 1 year warranty was expired. The local dealer for Whirlpool replaced the timer at a cost of $300.00. A month later, the timer failed again and was replaced by the local dealer at no cost to me.
At this time, the local dealer suggested I contact Whirlpool to establish a record of the problem I was having and I did so. I should point out that even though the timer failed, the top portion of the stove continued to operate - only, the oven was unusable. A year later, the same error message indicated the timer had once again failed. On each of the failure occasions, I contacted Whirlpool to ask them if this was a recurring problem with this stove model and they denied there was.
At this point, I am fairly certain that there is a problem in the wiring with this stove that is causing the timer to fail but do not have the resources or the ability to find that problem. Once again, when I contacted Whirlpool, they stated there was nothing they could do. At this point, I feel that I must cut my losses and purchase a new stove of a different manufacturer. I would like to advise anyone else considering a Whirlpool product to avoid Whirlpool ranges.

Our Whirlpool gas range (model number SF114PXSQ0) began beeping and displaying an "F5" error code for no apparent reason. When the panel is reset, the error code returns within 5 minutes. This range is only 2 or 3 years old and it has been used less than 20 times. Behind the control panel, on the back side of the printed circuit board, I noticed that the connecting pins of the processor are covered with corrosion.
It seems to me that the corrosion on the board is the result of a manufacturing defect. Circuit board corrosion is caused by a combination of ionic contamination and moisture in the presence of an applied voltage. Under these conditions, an electrochemical process forms dendrites, which then short circuit components on the board. Although the presence of moisture and voltage is unavoidable in this application, ionic contamination of circuit boards is typically the result of improper cleaning and/or handling by its manufacturer.
The cost of a new control board is $177.85. However, I am very hesitant about buying (another) one of these boards for several reasons. First, appliance repair websites as well as ConsumerAffairs.com are flooded with complaints involving faulty control boards in Whirlpool appliances (according to Whirlpool, these are only "occasionally failures"). Second, many of the complainants state that they have had to replace their faulty control boards two or more times before eventually giving up and buying a new appliance. Lastly, Whirlpool denies that there are any problems with their products.

I used the other 3 burners. After a few months of not using that burner, I decided to try it. I lit it and tried to boil water on it. I went to the bathroom and back in about 5 minutes. My house reeks of gas. I immediately turned the stove off, and opened all the windows, to air out the house, and get rid of the smell. I tried another, and I saw flames coming from under the seal of one of the burners. I immediately turned that one off.
I phoned the gas company to check the unit out. They came and determined that the unit is not safe to use. I contacted Sears, and they said the unit is not under any warranty. I contacted the customer service for Maytag, which is Whirlpool. I contacted Eva through their 866 number. She arranged for a WinServ tech to check out the range. The tech came and inspected the unit. He determined three of the burners were burnt out and corroded. There were corroded holes in the burners, which were allowing gas to escape. I think, that an low quality parts were used in producing this, and could have been catastrophic.
Eva has agreed to repair the product. I waited for two weeks, which is the time frame set by WinServ. That's how long it will take for us to get the necessary parts. I called WinServ on the 10th day, to check on the schedule for the service. I was then informed, that Whirlpool is not going to pay for the repair. I was very upset to hear that a large company, who made a defective product, cannot repair the unit. I had to spend $1,500 for a new range. I could not cook for three weeks. We started with having problems with the way it baked and the fact that you couldn't push in the timer to get more than seconds at a time. The first repairman broke the timer loose and said that I should expect a longer heating time and to allow about 10 minutes after the temperature showed the temp to be where I had set it.
Then, the first time I ran the oven cleaner, it leaked smoke out the vent and turned the top oven plate a burned brown which I could not remove and the oven glass door leaked smoke between the layers, made brown stripes on the glass and turned the glass a greenish color. The oven overheated, burning the food that was cooking in the oven and causing the house to be filled with smoke. I had a repairman come out to correct the problem. The oven worked again for a little over a year after that and now (out of warranty) the oven will not light.
I had a repairman come out to tell me that the module sensor needed to be replaced. This did not correct the problem and the oven will still not light. I have contacted Whirlpool on two separate occasions, to discuss this issue with them with little assistance. As a matter of fact, the second time I spoke with their customer service rep, she just sat silently while on the phone after I finished speaking. I would have to say, "Hello" several times to make sure she was still there since she made no comment after speaking myself.
The only thing she did say was that she was sorry and that she understood. She offered me a 10% family discount to purchase another oven. I asked to speak with her manager and she said that she was sorry as well and that the oven shouldn't have broken after only 2 1/2 years, two different times but that there wasn't anything they could do and that just happened sometimes and she was sorry. She offered me the 10% discount as well, to purchase another stove and said that Whirlpool stood behind their products.
I asked her if I corrected the problem with the oven that I have now and it broke again in a short amount of time, were they going to stand behind their product? She said that she couldn't guarantee anything. Not really sure what to do but don't think I will be purchasing another Whirlpool appliance again. When my husband said we have finally ordered a new stove since we did not hear from them and asked if they would just send us a check for the parts, so we could apply that money to the new stove (I know that was ridiculous but what did we have to lose at this point?!), he was told if we had purchased a Whirlpool or Maytag that they might have been able to do something for us. We weren't even using the broiler element and we have never used the self-cleaning feature. My husband was able to get the food out, but when he closed the door, it locked and the element was still on and would not shut off. We had to go outside and down to the cellar to turn off the breaker to shut it off. By that time, the entire wall around the oven was hot to the touch and the odor of melted plastic was overwhelming. It took three hours for the oven and wall around it to cool off. We tried to turn it on again later but an error message came up and the top element came on, and the door was still locked.
We have service scheduled for Monday, but I don't trust the oven now and will probably try to come up with the money to buy a new one. The oven should have some kind of safety on it that would have automatically shut it off in this situation. The whole incident was very scary. I just cringe when I think if that had happened to one of my daughters and we weren't home. We would have had a fire on our hands. The oven is out of warranty, but is not more than eight years old or so. Since I can't get the oven door opened, I am unsure of the exact model number of the oven. The users' manual lists ten model numbers. RBS240PD is the first one listed. After reading all the other consumer complaints, we are not going to bother with having the oven serviced. The newest issue is the oven won't relight after it is warm. The tech was just here in October 08. The tech contacted Whirlpool & they can't guarantee what is wrong but want me to buy replacement parts that cost $300 plus the cost of labor. Parts include Igniter, DSI Board & Clock assembly due to flickering. The oven is still fairly new. One would expect it to last at least 5 years. I've already spent over $200 in service calls on a new oven. There has been ongoing problems since I bought it. Cost $355.04 Again I wrote Whirlpool and again same response: no warranty. 9-23-08, cleaned oven. Set time 2 hrs. 30 min. Tried to heat oven two days later, again no heat. FOUR times since purchase we've had this same problem in oven less than 5 years old. Total we've spent: $666.39. Phoned Whirlpool last week and Supervisor I'd asked for in Customer Service Dept. finally offered me 30% credit toward new Whirlpool oven. This oven we have now is a lemon and 30% is not acceptable, in our opinion.

Purchased a Whirlpool Gold Accubake gas range. After a few weeks the oven would not light. Repair replaced control panel. Then the oven began to overheat and would not shut off. I had to pull unit out to reach gas valve. I called Whirlpool and complained this was a fire hazard and they agreed to replace the range with a new one.
New one came and guess what? After a few weeks it too began to overheat. Control panel was replaced but oven continues to act eratically and never keeps correct temperature. Whirlpool offered to repair but I requested a refund because I do not trust this unit in my home. They refused. I also filed a complaint with the U.S. Product Safety Commission with no result.

I had purchased a Whirlpool Oven and Microwave/Hood combo when I purchased our home. The original cooking equipment was bad, and we purchased this equipment as soon as we moved in. This was in 2005, February. Since then the oven control had broke twice. Once the company had covered the parts and labor, but with in 10 months it failed. Then the part was not covered under warranty. I had to pay $150 with shipping and tax to fix it.
Soon after that the microwave went dead. I have not fixed this yet, but now both items are useless. We paid over 1200 dollars for new cooking appliances, close to 200 dollars in repairs, and they are not even three yrs old and now I am looking to replace them again. The Model #'s are:
Oven GY398LXPT00 Serial XS1110404
Microwave MH3185XPT Serial TR R4412075
Now I am looking to replace these appliances. We cannot cook food for ourselves or the children. This is a cost burden that should not happen. We purchased these pieces for a high cost, now have to shell out money we can not afford.

When you bake something the oven shuts down without notice and if you're not watching it you don't know how long it's been off.
We have had the new control board less than 1 year and now it looks like I neen a new one again. This is unacceptable.

We purchased our cook top stove in Feb 2005 and have had nothing but problems with it since we purchased it. The very first time I ran my self cleaning oven, the ceramic cook top cracked, [they] replaced it, I didn't use my self cleaning oven again for 2 years because I was afraid it would crack again, but I had no choice when my daughter spilled something in the bottom of the oven, but it didn't crack I was so happy, but 2 days later when I used my oven to bake a pie crusts, I check on the crust by opening the door and when I closed it lightly, there was pop and the top had cracked again.
When my husband called because the first time it cracked the lady at the customer service said it has a 5 year warranty on it not to worry if it cracks it will be repaired at no charge, but when he called and mentioned the 5 year warranty, he was told no its only for the parts, not the service call or labor. WE would have to pay for that which would be about $75 or more. My husband told her we don't have $75 to get it repaired she said sorry nothing can be done. My husband is a disabled vet who works full time to support a family of 5 on. I can not believe a company with a reputation like doesn't stand behind what your products or warranty.
This is the second time we have ran our self clean oven and both times, the cook top cracked. So now our stove has gone from a simple hair line crack down the middle to 5 pieces where we have had to cook on it in order to feed our children. There is obviously a flaw in this stove if every time I use the self clean function on the stove it cracks the cook top. [They] should recall these stoves before some one or a child gets seriously injured or killed. Thank you
WE paid almost $400.00 for this stove and they expect us to pay for the labor and repair for a flaw in their range.

I bought Whirlpool gas range model #SF262LXSW in early Nov. of 2006. Since then, it has needed 3 repairs. I never needed one repair on my old 25 year old range.
While under warranty, the oven wouldn't heat up and needed a new gas valve. The repair man told me that very seldom happened and the part would have to be sent for. Because of the wait,I was upset with the company that I bought the range from and they extended my warranty for one year beyond the manufacturer's warranty. Good thing! I had to have the timer fixed because it stopped working correctly and the broiler would light for a minute and shut off for a minute and continued doing this for about 6-8 minutes before it would stay lit. Both repairs were covered under the extended warranty. Now I worry about what's going to go wrong after the warranty is expired in 2 months. While living on a fixed income as a senior, that's a real concern for me.
There were no physical or economic damage, only the future worry.

I purchased all new whirlpool appliances through Lowes, for a kitchen remodel. I had the appliances delivered approx. 1 month after purchase, as I felt this is when we would be ready for install. It actually took 2 months for install. When we put the appliances into place we noticed the front of the stove had a metal strip at the bottom that was made wrong, and protruded. We took pictures and showed Lowes, who gave us the phone # for whirlpool to call.
We call and have never been treated so poorly. We were told that because we purchased the appliances more than 30 days ago we were stuck with them. The rep. said as long as the door opened it was not their problem. If we wanted them to come out and correct the problem we would have to pay. What really made me mad is that we would have to pay for the parts that whirlpool screwed up!
After 15 mins. of heated conversation with the rep. I asked for a number or place to write a complaint. She said there was no one higher up that her. Her word was final. You would think for good will, after I made this major purchase, they would fix what they should have made correct the first time. By doing this they could fix the problem with quality control. When I cut my hand on the corner of the stove, I should have returned it then. Footnote: Lowes has been great in helping to secure a door that is not made so poorly for us.

I bought a Combination Microwave/Hood Model MH3184XPS-3 in April of 2006. Since then, the grill has popped off twice. The plastic has broken around the screw that is used to attach the grill to the top of the Microwave. The first it was under warranty - no problem. They shipped the part directly to me and gave me the option of installing it myself or having a service technician come out. I opted for the service tech, and watched him install it, very simple.
It now has popped off again, after warranty, and while they will provide me with a part, they won't ship it directly to me and insist that I pay a technician to install it. I suspect the cost of the part will be hidden in the tech's fees. Their customer service is horrible. I will never buy from Whirlpool again, even though they also offered me a 15% discount on future purchases. What is the point if the product keeps falling apart?
Expecting to pay $100 more in service technician fees and lose a day from work. Already spent 1 1/2 hours on the phone with Whirlpool customer service.

We purchased a new house in July of 2005 the appliances were all Kitchen Aid Architect series, including a 30 wall oven. We did not move into the house until December of '05, in December of '06, my wife used the Self Cleaning feature after a busy holiday (this is not the first electric self-cleaning oven we have owned) this was only the second or third cleaning. We went to use the oven and it would not heat (just as I have read about in your column).
We called the store that supplied the appliances sorry, out of warranty the repairman came out, diagnosed the problem bad T.O.D. About 200.00 later, oven was fixed he said the oven got too hot, but the cleaning cycle time and temp. is pre-set so... we have been very hesitant to use the self-clean function. Well...after cleaning the oven only two times since Dec.'06, it did it again.
I called the store again, and asked if they have had any other calls about problems "why no, we have never heard of that'. The repairman came out, we showed him the old repair order and defective part.He checked the part. This is a 130 Degree(C) switch, they (Kitchen Aid) have had so many problems that they are now making the ovens with a 30 degree (C) higher tempurature T.O.D.switch.
We have ordered a bunch of the new switches, but they have been back-ordered for 3 months, I called Wirlpool/Kitchen-Aid,Costumer Service and they assured me that they have no record of any problems what-so-ever. I decided to search the internet for problems... didn't take long. I just got a call, the new part should be in this week.

The plastic is cracking at two different places on the door and not because of misues on my part. I am the only one that uses it. The plastic is defective from type of plastic used or from how the door was assembled. Whirlpool needs to investigate this defect.
I am not using any longer because there was evidence of leakage coming from these cracks. I called and spoke to a rep months ago and mentioned my concern with microwave rays seeping and expected Whirlpool to investigate. On Mother's Day, 2008, my son gave me a new Accubake Whirlpool Electric Self Cleaning Range Model RF362LXTT3. Right away, I noticed that the dual burners were much slower than my old 20 year old stove. I timed the speed of the burners using exact parameters for each test. Boiling two quarters of water on the left burner took 27 minutes and boiling two quarts of water on the right burner took 16 minutes. I called Whirlpool and they sent out a repairman. The repairman replaced the elements, and much to my chagrin, the right burner now took 30 minutes to boil 2 quarts of water, but the left burner was improved to 19 minutes.
I called the service rep and he came out again and replaced the right burner again. Still couldn't get it back to the original 16 minutes, but did improve it to 21 minutes. Not really acceptable, but I am getting tired of service calls, so I have settled for the time. Then when I attempted to use the self clean feature on very mild soil the oven did not heat hot enough to burn the soil to a white ash. It just simply baked the soil onto the interior of the oven and no amount of additional cleaning will get the soil off. Whirlpool said i should have personally cleaned the oven before I used the self cleaning feature. In all the years of having self cleaning ovens, I have never had to manually clean an oven before I used the self cleaning feature.
Then this past week end I attempted to bake cupcakes for a birthday party. I used two identical pans, filled with the same batter, and baked on the same oven rack. The cupcakes on the left of the rack did not rise. The cupcakes on the right of the rack rose beautifully. Called Whirlpool again. By now I am very agitated and want my range replaced. Of course, Whirlpool does not replace ovens, they only repair. So they send the service rep out again. He does a test on the temperature of the oven and finds that it continually shuts on and off It was set at 350, turned off at 358, turned on at 310, turned off at 390 turned on at 331, turned off at 399 turned on at 342. The rep asked me what I wanted to do. I said I wanted a new range, so he called Whirlpool and recommended that they replace the range. They told him to have me call Customer Service. When I did, I was again told that they do not replace ranges.
So tomorrow, the service rep comes again. I have now had a total of seven service calls, and tomorrow will make number 8. Each service call requires me to take off work, and wait four hours for the rep to arrive and then whatever time it takes for him to diagnose and/or attempt to fix the problem. I agree with everyone else on this site that I will never purchase anything Whirlpool, Maytag or Kenmore (since they are all part of the same company) again.
The service that Whirlpool offers after the sale is lacking and it cannot be economically feasible for Whirlpool to continue to send out reps to repair defective products so many times. My $800 range has surely by this time cost them more in service calls and parts than the original purchase price. I simply want a new range. Is there a lemon law on appliances? If not, there really should be.

They came over yesterday, it will cost about $300.00 to fix, the good news is that I should not use the self cleaning function, use easy off instead, is the recommendation of the guy that was here.
I'm in my 60's the idea of having a self cleaning oven is that i don't have to get on my bad knees to do it. We bought a whirlpool gold slide in gas range in august of 2005. Right after we hooked it up we smelled a strong gas odor- a warranty service call revealed it was a faulty connection piece on the range.
A few months later the door would not open after I performed a self cleaning function, a warranty service call revealed it was a faulty thermostat on the range. Again while under warranty, the electronic touch pad control quit functioning. Again a warranty repair call indicated it was a faulty part and it was replaced.
Currently the range is not longer working (06/12/08) because my repairman states the control panel is not functioning again. The repairman also states that the warranty repairman was rough and broke one end piece re-installing the panel and did not apply adhesive correctly to the back of the laminated touch pad. The current repair will cost $369. for a new panel and plastic end piece and a 90 day warranty. I called customer service at whirlpool and they stated the electronic part is warranted for only 30 days. The customer service rep. was completely indifferent to my grief.

I purchased an over the range microwave made by Whirlpool in July of 2007 which acted up a bit when it was first installed (the touch screen wouldn't respond when I touched it) but after about 24-48 hours it worked. Since then the screen worked on-again off-again until October (nearly 4 months ago) when I called for a repair. Since then, whirlpool has sent out two different repair companies. I have stayed home from work, and therefore lost money, 9 or 10 times for repair men to come to my house. Whirlpool refuses to replace my microwave and insists that I keep allowing the repair companies to attempt to repair my appliance until they can confirm that it is not repairable.
The problem here is that Whirlpool keeps shipping the repair companies broken parts, and the repair companies don't check their parts (even though I have requested them to) until they arrive at my house and dismantle my microwave. I am stuck in a catch 22. If the repair company fixes my microwave then that's fine, but I cannot get a new microwave unless they say that mine is unrepairable. The repair company cannot say that my microwave is not repairable until they replace the part that they think is broken. They cannot replace the broken part unless whirlpool sends it to them in one piece.
The first repair company I dealt with had poor customer service on the telephone, and instead of contacting whirlpool to request proper packaging on their parts, they made me do it. When I contacted Whirlpool, they told me that they don't ship parts to repair companies, and recommended a different company as the solution. I have since learned that Whirlpool does ship parts for repairs, as the supervisor at whirlpool today offered to do exactly what I requested two months ago: make sure the parts are packaged properly so that they arrive safely. If they had done that at the time I requested, I would have been able to go to work 5 more days, and would possibly have had a functioning microwave before Thanksgiving. They will not tell me how many times they will ship a broken part or how long I have to wait before they put customer service first and give me an operating appliance. They have offered to extend the warranty for 6 more months, which seems only fair sine the microwave had been out of service for 4 months and I do not see a light at the end of the tunnel yet.
I have lost at least $1500 that I would have earned had I been able to work the 9 days that I missed.

We then attempted another service call to try to remedy this problem. Upon checking if the repair had solved my problem, which it didn't, my daughter was accidently burned on this door. I immediately called Whirlpool and talked with their safety department. A new unit was sent to me. It, however, has the same exact problem. The lower oven door still gets hot enough to burn someone. When I called Whirlpool to report a continued problem, they basically told me too bad, as far as they were concerned it was fixed. This, even though the new unit had the same problem as the first. They will not refund my $1200.00. I am so afraid someone is going to be seriously burned.
I am now out $1200.00 for the cost of the oven, plus any money that I will spend on a replacement. Not to mention the danger to my famiy. This is a serious hazard.
