My Whirlpool 30" slide in range was already installed in my new home that we moved into September of 2011. I had continuous problems with burning food. I could never simmer on cooktop or roast in the oven without food burning. Fields of Orlando, FL came in before my one year was up and stated that there was nothing wrong with stove - that was how it worked. Dummy me. However, I had two of the same type ranges at the same time - one in Boca Raton, FL and one in Jones Mills, PA from 1995 to 2001. I never had this problem. I called Whirlpool again in 2013. They said they would send someone out to investigate at a cost of $140 or $160. I declined because I didn't want to pay to have them tell me the same thing. I have had so much burnt food including the time that an hour before my guests were to arrive I had to start a new dinner.
Even my husband questioned my problem. However, he agreed that same heavy pans, same procedure - but a different stove was the problem. New Year's I managed my traditional pork and sauerkraut by turning on oven at 325 degrees for a half hour, then turning it off for a half hour or more. This was after I cut off the burnt outside of the roast and started with a new clean roaster (oven was set at 325 degrees). Last week, we bought a replacement (not a Whirlpool) for our 2 year old Whirlpool and guess what. It simmers and bakes just as it should. The Whirlpool was definitely not suited to purpose.

A 12 year old built in double convection oven that has a retail cost of $4500.00 has its control pad discontinued. I cannot repair my investment. I spoke to the executive offices & they arrogantly told me that they only have to make parts for the length of the warranty. "Suppose you had a 12 year old Honda that they discontinued a critical part would you feel swindled", I asked. "We don't make cars" was the response from the executive customer care agent. I just replaced our Whirlpool Accubake Double Wall oven, model RBD305PDS14, because it fried the control panel after being put on self clean. This was the second time this has happened and I have probably only used the self clean feature three times since we purchased the oven. I'm not a specialist in defective product design, but having a control panel burn up two out of three times when the self clean is used suggests a significant problem. I refused to pay to have it replaced again and obviously did not replace it with another Whirlpool product or any other brand associated with the company. I see that this problem has a long history dating back quite a few years with Whirlpool doing little or nothing to resolve the issue. (They just deny any knowledge about any defect in the design.) Fool me once, shame on you! Fool me twice shame on me!

We purchased a Whirlpool gas range on 12/3/11. It was to be delivered later that month and days before delivery we received a call the stove was damaged. They asked if we wanted it and could get it at a reduced price. We said no, we wanted a new one and that one was delivered on 1/4/12. This stove has had many service calls to fix the ignite for the oven. The ignite and a circuit board for this problem has been replaced many times. The smell of gas in the house is terrible from the many times you try to light the oven. This problem has happened many times when a family event was going to be done (Thanksgiving, making Christmas cookies). It is also very poor advertisement for the company and stove to have this happen when there are so many people around. They will have a tendency to spread the word by mouth. PS: When we called (12-13-13), the woman stated after 4 calls for the same thing there should be a replacement or a refund of money (All the calls have been for the same thing OVEN IGNITE and GAS SMELL).

Whirlpool Gold Freestanding Accu bake Duo FIRE HAZZARD - We bought our house August 2013 and we were SO happy to see the stainless steel appliances and we thought Whirlpool was a good brand that our grandparents stood behind for years (they obviously haven't bought from them in 50+ years... times must have changed for the worse). Anyway, I got all moved in and was fixing supper and noticed how REALLY dark and greasy the oven was. I could barely see inside because the coating of grime was so thick that it dimmed the light by being so thick over the glass bulb cover. I immediately thought "Wow... the past homeowners were nasty and lazy because they have this nice self-cleaning oven and don't even bother to clean it." I noticed it smelled slightly like it had a gas leak somewhere when it was preheating but it cooked the supper okay that night.
Because it was hotter than a jungle in NC in the summer heat of August, I decided to wait until winter to use the self-clean... thought it would "warm" the house as it got rid of the gunk, right? I kept using the dark coated oven about a total of 25 times and always noticed the faint gas smell at first when it would preheat. I thought maybe it was SO dirty that the oven seal wasn't working right and since it was now November, I figured I should just run the self clean cycle and maybe it would make it run properly as it was REALLY dirty and the igniter or something may actually be clogged. I figured it would probably stink a little at first when it started the cleaning cycle because of the excess build up but it needed cleaning so bad that I cleaned it...
The smoke alarms started to go off, we just disconnected them for peace and quiet... Our throats and eyes were burning and it smelled more like plastic burning... FOR HOURS it was horrible! The walls and the Terracotta tile floor were flaming hot!!! The next morning the house actually smelled like it had caught on fire and it stayed that way for weeks!
The oven was very clean inside after the cleaning BUT the oven is now totally useless! It will not stay lit. I have never been able to use it again as it will not come up to temperature... just clicks over and over and hisses trying to light. I tried again today and it started LOUDLY hissing like a big open gas pipe was on in there and I got scared and cut it off. THANK GOD it went off!
I have been reading similar complaints about Whirlpool Gold ovens for a couple hours now and I am truly scared to use this oven now. After reading the comments of the hundreds of dollars it will take to get it to bake again and how most people STILL had the same reoccurring issues and NO help from Whirlpool... Well I decided to share my experience in hopes that if anyone else is reading this... and I am sorry to say... Well... you are not imagining the problem either. We never read these blogs like this BEFORE we buy or use our appliances, only AFTER something scares the crap out of you and you look for a recall.
If I could afford to sue Whirlpool for a replacement then I would. I wish everyone could afford to sue Whirlpool for their unresolved issues that have cost them unnecessary expenses due to the customer loyalty we have had for Whirlpool as we used to be taught "You get what you pay for" and "Do not go with an off brand because those companies go out of business when you need them to repair or service stuff". Am I the only one that was taught this? Times are very hard now and the economy is getting worse and now we have to be screwed by big companies like Whirlpool getting rich off of hardworking people and they do not care enough o help pay for the poor workmanship issues they are making.
Shame on you, Whirlpool. I am taking the rest of the day to read reviews on a replacement stove so I can get this "ticking time-bomb" out of my new home. I too have read enough about the same oven that others have had worse memories than I did. I will not waste anymore of our hard-earned money on Whirlpool ovens. You have to decide what is good for you....

My double ovens were locked and I could not open them. A repair man came, undid the latch, but did not have the replacement part. He ordered it and came back two weeks later to replace the latch. I paid the required $159.00 for the service call. In the meantime, I could use the bottom oven without any problem. He replaced the latch and discovered it was defective. In removing it, he damaged the "ribbon" in the control panel. He came back and put in a new latch, but now neither of the ovens would work because the control panel was inoperative.
An attempt was made to order the control panel, but the control panel is no longer made. Instead, an attempt was made to repair the control panel. This took 4 weeks, and meant that I did not have an oven for Thanksgiving and had to totally rearrange my plans. Now I am told that the panel is not fixable and the best they can do is offer me a "prorate" on a new oven in which I would be charged $1374.00. I find this outrageous. Except for the latch, an easily repaired mechanical problem, the ovens were in excellent working order. Now I am being told that due to the problem caused by their repair person, I must pay $1374.00. I spoke to Stephen **, their customer service supervisor, who said that I have no further recourse with the company and there is no one else I can speak to regarding this problem.

I have purchased 2 Ikea/Whirlpool ovens in 2011 from Ikea in Canada. I have used the self clean feature on both ovens and both ovens quit completely and the doors stayed locked. This problem is discussed hundreds of times on the internet for Whirlpool, Ikea and Kitchen Aid ovens. Since they are all made by Whirlpool they are all very similar or exactly the same in some cases, as is the problem. I have discussed this with Ikea and they have said they didn't know about the problem but would help to get it fixed to my satisfaction. I have had Whirlpool authorized service repair both ovens but after trying the self clean feature again, same problem.
During one of my conversations with an Ikea representative on the phone, she contacted Whirlpool and was told that if the oven was repaired 3 times and deemed by the service technician as unrepairable, Whirlpool would do a buyback. In other words according to Ikea, Whirlpool would take the oven and pay me what I paid for the oven. Well after contacting the authorized service dept (not Whirlpool itself) for the third time, they did some investigation with Whirlpool about the problem. To his and my amazement, Whirlpool has come up with a fix as of October 2013. The technician ordered the new "kit" and installed it in both ovens. I have since tried the self clean in one oven and this time it worked. For the information of others, Whirlpool has the kit and in it is an instruction sheet with pictures as to how to replace and install all the parts in the kit.
I watched the installation, quite a process. From the instruction sheet there is a number on it. Here is the number - w10625529 rev. A 10/13. This is an "instruction sheet for Ikea TOD (thermal overload device) service kit". I have looked at many of the service parts diagrams on the internet for many different current models of Ikea, Whirlpool and Kitchen Aid ovens and in most cases almost all the inside parts are the same or very very similar which leads me to the conclusion that this service kit may work in most of these ovens to correct the same problem, but I suggest checking with the appropriate service people before taking my word for it. My observation is that the kit moves the "TOD" off the top of the metal plate of the oven and onto a new bracket which the tech thought it was to get it further away from heat (this I'm not sure of since I'm not an expert). He also suggested that this kit may also be designed to allow more air flow around the oven.
My only concern after having the self clean feature finally work is the heat produced inside the kitchen cabinet in which the oven is installed. Approximately an hour and a half after turning the self clean on, I felt the side of the cabinet between it and the fridge (open space), and at one area of the wood cabinet I could not hold my hand on the cabinet as it was too very hot. I will be checking the inside of the cabinet for signs of excess heat and if I see any evidence, I will again call the service people. Since the elements were not on when I checked this, I assume the self clean had finished the heat cycle and was in the process of cooling down. When I test the other oven, I will make sure the elements are still on as I can see them thru the glass door.
When I checked the temperature of the outside wood cabinet using a laser thermometer, the outside wood registered 64 degrees C or 142 F approximately. Not sure what the inside temperature was as the oven was still in place. Hopefully I will not get a higher reading when the self clean is at its maximum temperature in the cleaning cycle. Will the oven create any problems in the future for the cabinet, I hope not but time will tell. For clarification, the cabinets were built by a kitchen cabinet company using the instruction sheet that came with the ovens.
I hope some of this will be of help to some of the hundreds of people who have posted this very same problem on the internet. When you have paid for an appliance you wanted because of the features it came with, it should provide you with what you paid for and not constantly break down. I'm lucky as they came with a 5-year warranty so it hasn't cost me anything yet and hopefully won't in the future. Good luck to all in getting this resolved for all of you.

I had an electrical fire at the back of the stove where the power cable connects. The stove is not repairable and is no longer made. Whirlpool is only offering to refund what I paid for the stove three years ago but this will not cover the cost of a replacement today. The best I can find is $1000-$1500 more plus installation cost. It has to be gas/duel fuel, 36" wide and in black as my range hood is black to match. I have no available money to upgrade and no working stove. I am frustrated that they say they cannot give me a replacement or allow me to find a replacement when it is their faulty product causing me an unnecessary expense, not to mention my home could have burned down! I also have a problem with my dishwasher and my washing machine.
I am very disappointed with Whirlpool and I won't trust their brand ever again. Anyone know how I can fight them on this? Is it acceptable to leave a family with no means of cooking! I really don't have a spare cent right now and am just keeping our mortgage paid. This does not seem like a fair way for Whirlpool to behave. Ikea have said that Whirlpool has to take responsibility as it was their item and that sounds fair to me.

We purchased Whirlpool Gold Accubake, double ovens (gas) in 2005. Since then, we have experienced identical failures (8 to date) during the self-cleaning cycle in which the high temperature burns out the thermal fuse of the ovens. This requires two Sears technicians to repair the unit (it requires two technicians to pull the oven out as the fuse location is in the back of the unit) and leaves us without use of both ovens for approximately 2 weeks (scheduling parts delivery and technicians through Sears home repair is not an expedient process).
After checking other consumer product websites, it has become clear to me that there is a known design defect with these ovens in which the thermal fuse is not adequately insulated from the high temperatures during self clean; it therefore trips and burns out during the self-clean cycle. While not having access to ovens for about two weeks/year on average may sound acceptable to Sears, the reality is that the problem has escalated in frequency since purchase. In 2013, we are going on our third repair of the same problem (that makes 6 weeks of non-usable oven time in one year) and Sears will not consider replacing the unit, despite: 1) our obvious dissatisfaction with a lemon unit, 2) a well documented history of the defect with this particular Whirlpool oven and 3) an ongoing and escalating repair cost to Sears (it is under their extended warranty so the repair cost is on them although we did pay for this service up front on our appliances).
I would stay away from not only Whirlpool appliances but also Sears as there doesn't seem to be any regard for the customer experience and taking care of a product problem (the right way) with a known defect. Sears has an opportunity to make this problem go away quite easily and retain a customer - fix the problem permanently or just replace the defective unit. Unfortunately, my experience to date with Sears standing behind the products they sell provides me with little confidence that either will happen.

I purchased Whirlpool 6.2ct electric range on 3/16/2013 from Lowe's, Fremont, CA. I tried to bake my cake on 11/19/2013, and preheat it to 400F degree. When the temperature achieved to 400 degree, I put my cake in not even 5 minutes and go to dining room to pick up something. When I turn around, I saw the oven window is so bright and I open the door right away, it has fire from the left side bottom. I turn off the power right away but still has big fire. So I use the fire extinguisher to get the fire off.
I went to Lowe's to complain, this product is still under the manufacture warranty and I also purchased two years extended warranty from the store. Lowe's sent the 3rd party technician over to check, they open the bottom element and insist I drop something to catch on fire. He tried 350F degree is working. But the fact is, there's nothing dropped, no oil, water or and any ingredients, only fire extinguisher powder all over the bottom. Technician put back the cover, I asked him, "How do I clean up the bottom extinguisher mess?" He said, "You don't need to, just clean the top," and won't try 400F degree for me since the top didn't clean up. I asked him, I am so fear to use it now, you asked me to clean it up and try again. I only use my oven to bake cakes, cookies, and muffins, and that day the cake even not still raise yet. How could it catch on fire? Is this product defective? I doubt it.
I also called Whirlpool, they said most likely it's short circuit. They only provide the repair, unless it can't be repaired, then they replace it. Manufacturer also told me that my temperature is high. I don't think so. I have no problem to use any oven in 425-450 in the past. If this is high, why your stove has function to that high degree? I am so upset with both services. From my concern, nothing dropped to bottom and caught on fire. They all refused to replace the new one and asked me to continue using it. I really don't feel confident to use this one and don't know who can help me to replace it.

I am furious that both Whirlpool and Ikea (where we purchased the electric oven) keep completely silent on this issue, not bothering to tell homeowners to use this function at their own risk. Two years ago, we bought a Whirlpool gas range, model WFG361LVQ2. The range-top grates were porcelain-coated, smooth and shiny. The range itself has worked flawlessly (Admittedly, it gets only light use in our elderly household, which consists of me and my wife). The only complaint I have is that the porcelain on the grates is failing. On one of the grates, it's flaking off where the flame contacts with it during cooking (Photos attached). On another two, the porcelain has developed a surface roughness that's clearly a prelude to same type of damage as the first. The fourth grate still appears to be intact. The differences in damage is no doubt due to the different amount of use that each receives.
When I called Whirlpool, a supervisor there told me that grates have no specific life expectancy, and that is true for plain metal grates as well has porcelain-coated grates. She also said that some chemicals can penetrate the porcelain and shorten its life. I told her we didn't use any chemicals on the grates, but only rarely used common kitchen scouring powder, and I can't imagine the powder or the chlorine in the powder could do that kind of damage.
When I asked what it would cost to replace the four grates, she said $187. I told her the entire stove cost about $500, and it didn't make sense to pay almost $200 to buy grates every two years for the next thirty years. I told her that the grates on our previous (non-Whirlpool) range lasted the life of the range - about forty years. So I declined to purchase new grates, despite her offer of a one-time discount of 25%. Though the grates are becoming eyesores, they're still perfectly usable. So I'll hang onto them until I can find some bare metal ones to replace them.

I called Lowe's and told them I couldn't trust the oven not to do it again (after several times of it happening and resetting the circuit breaker). This would be a disaster if it happened during the holidays when I cook for 20 or more people. Lowe's manager said they wanted me to feel comfortable so they replaced the entire range.
GUESS WHAT... 2 weeks after having the new one... same problem. I set the thermostat to 400 degrees and when it got to 390, I saw the light blinking. Waiting 10 more mins, nothing changed. I have placed a loaf of bread near it only to have it melt down the side. The burner didn't look hot at all. This was at least 15 min. after turning off the burner. I Purchased a Whirlpool ceramic top self-cleaning oven & side-by-side refrigerator from Sears. I just want to share my experience. I do not have the exact year I purchased them. Too bad I was not aware of this site but after a year with the refrigerator I knew I would not buy another side-by-side and not a Whirlpool. The refrigerator motor runs too loud, the ice maker was forever stopping even during the summer. If you cleared the ice jams it would not reset for hours. The ice maker was replaced under warranty but it still jams; however now when you clear the ice from the trays it produces ice quickly.
The temperature in the oven seems to be off now. I purchased a oven thermometer and to verify the temp and they are never the same. But my major concern now is the self cleaning feature. The front door is Yellow and unsightly from the self cleaning cycle. As I sit here typing, I hope the oven does not start a fire it is very hot. This is the last time I intend to use the self cleaning cycle again because I feel it should not be this hot. The ceramic top is hot enough to burn if you touch it. Strangely I checked the oven storage drawer and metal pans in them were okay. Cabinets beside the oven were just a little warm. But This customer will not purchase Whirlpool again.

I have owned an Accubake gas range since April 2012. The range is 3 months out of warranty, and the oven will not light... just a clicking sound and gas pouring into the oven. I have also had problems with the burners being turned on by brushing against against the knobs. I have a note by the stove to remind myself to check that the knobs are in the OFF position. My 1 year old grandson turned the burner on just by touching the knob... NO SAFETY FEATURES!!! I haven't checked to see what a repair is going to cost me, but if it is several hundred dollars, I will just replace this piece of junk. It is very sad that a costly brand new appliance only comes with a one year warranty. I will never ever buy another Whirlpool appliance!!

Whirlpool Accubake Gas stove/oven - Several times now, in the year and a half that I've owned this appliance, I've had issues with the knobs easily being turned on. The pilot never lights, and gas leaks horribly. One day I decided to take my daughter to the park and we'd ran into the kitchen to grab a few drinks. A few hours later when we came home, I barely got the key in the door when I smelled gas. I left the door wide open and stepped inside the house and saw the not one, but two knobs had somehow been turned on. I'm assuming that when my daughter and I grabbed our drinks, one or both of us must have barely bumped the knobs. We had to stand outside and leave the front door open for over an hour to air out the house!
I've found that I literally have to keep the knobs off the stove to prevent the gas from leaking in our home and someone passing out. NEVER in a million years would I have made such a huge purchase (and yes, it's a huge purchase for a single mother!) on something that's used on a daily basis if I had known what a danger it could be. I almost forgot to add, that the stove top grill began rusting the first time I washed them off and the oven often does not light and we have to leave the drip pan unscrewed in order to light the pilot.

I am a senior who has not used the Whirlpool Range installed by the builder in 2007 very much. First of all, I did not like the way the covered jets hid the lighted jets when they were turned on low. Then about 8 months ago, I smelled gas and no one had used the range. I checked the knobs and one was turned slightly without any gas lit. I know that for years the companies were required to have push-in knob before you could turn them for safety reasons (especially children). These knobs barely push in before turning so that they can easily be accidentally brushed against and leak gas, which is exactly what happened to me again today.
My daughter was visiting. Neither of us had used the range and when she left, I sat in my living room and smelled gas. I immediately checked the range and the small front jet was turned slightly on. The odor was so strong that I know it had to have been on for some time. It's been an hour and I'm still airing out the house. I have used gas ranges for over fifty years and never had a problem such as this. I'm thankful that I do not have issues with my sense of smell. Otherwise, I would not be sitting here writing this.

I just bought a house that has one of these ranges, and it was getting the F2 message. I found the problem. There is NO ventilation behind the electronic control so when the oven heats up, the control board gets too hot and throws the F2 code. That would indicate a bad temp sensor or bad board, but really it's the heat shield on the back. I've removed the metal plate from behind the control panel and it works fine now. I'm considering drilling some vent holes and adding some insulation behind the control.

I bought a new Whirlpool electric range in the spring of 2008 and purchased the extended warranty from Leon's. The oven worked fine for the first three & 1/2 years, but then the bottom element in the oven seemed to have stopped working. The top element would still come on, in an effort to keep the oven at temperature, but was not effective.
I called in a repair. The technician showed up, turned the oven on, noted that the bottom element did not come on properly & replaced the motherboard in the control panel with no further diagnosis. The oven worked for approximately 9 months and then the problem recurred. I called in another warranty repair. This time when the technician showed up, he turned the oven on & told me he was going to order a new bottom element, which he installed about a week later, again, with no further diagnosis.
Now, here we are again, one month off warranty and 6 mos since the last repair, and again, the bottom element in the oven is not working correctly. I reported the issue & my dissatisfaction to Whirlpool and was basically told, "How sad, too bad - hardware components fail and there's nothing we are going to do about it." Seriously? This range is just barely 5 years old and has a history of repeated problems with the "bake" function - obviously, something is defective in this product.
I can see it, if I had not had any problems until this point, but when the same issue keeps coming up & obviously has not been correctly diagnosed and repaired, I would think they would have enough integrity to offer some kind of help or solution. Given the history here, it's highly unlikely that I'm going to be willing to spend big bucks on another attempted repair that, in all likelihood, will be merely a short term band-aid, so I'll probably have to buy another new range - which I can't really afford right now. Trust me, it will not be a Whirlpool & it will not be from Leon's.

I purchased from Sears in 2011. We were advised to purchase the extended warranty, use the product for a period of 4 or 5 months, then cancel that warranty and a balance refund will be issued. We did. Looking back now, we're glad we did cancel that extended warranty due to the fact this range began throwing out the F2 code error with that continuous beeping after the warranty would have expired anyway. Does anyone else see a problem with placement of the electronic control panel directly above the venting for the oven? I'm no brainiac, but logic tells me this type of electronic is not designed to withstand the heat emitted from the oven vent repeatedly. I have to flip the circuit breaker off to get it to stop! Only way to shut it up. Entire control panel is rendered useless during these episodes and it doesn't happen every time, very random.
I was hoping this to be my last range before a retirement environment (<6 years). Whirlpool USED to be the appliance to own, but those days are LONG over. What a pile of junk assembled with foreign electronic parts designed to fail. And WHO are your engineers that design this crap? Oh, yes, the ones that you pay to increase YOUR profit margin by using substandard parts and design. Does Whirlpool really believe "main street" Americans are going to fall for that expensive repair trap? Nope. My money is good everywhere and that's where I'll be spending it. I advise anyone reading these reviews to consider anything else other than a Whirlpool product. They do not stand behind their product and do not value you, the customer. The only thing they are good about is the purchase transaction, taking your payment in other words. OVERPRICED JUNK!

I contacted an appliance company who came out for $95.00 and used some type of spray looking device to check for leakage or bubbles to tell us we had no problem. Our warranty was only good for the one year. The appliance company ripped us off and Whirlpool was a bad deal. After reading of all the complaints of Whirlpool, I will not buy Whirlpool ever again. Over the last 3 years, the self-cleaning oven has decided to lock the door and clean itself with my food still inside on five different occasions. There is no way to override the lock. We have to shut off the electric power completely then wait for the oven to cool down before we can open the door and remove the charcoal substances! This happened once while a member of our fire department was here for dinner.
This is one of the most frustrating and dangerous events ever! Please, please, please do not purchase a Whirlpool self-cleaning oven! I will never purchase one again. I was so excited to have a glass top stove and the first time this happened, I thought it was just a freak occurrence. But it is happening again and again. Pressing start did nothing and the oven door was locked as though it was in the self-clean cycle. We had to trip the circuit breaker to turn the oven off and allow the door to open. The food inside was ruined. After three episodes in one week, I scheduled a service call through the Whirlpool website. When the repairman came, he determined the electronic circuit board was faulty. His suggestion was that I buy a new stove since the repair would cost $425 (the part itself was $280). Not wanting to replace a stove that wasn't 2 years old, I went ahead with the repair.
I called Whirlpool to lodge a complaint and although the customer service rep was polite, he basically told me that all electronic appliances fail sooner or later and the company will not stand behind this appliance because it's out of its 12-month warranty and I didn't buy the extended warranty. He also told me the company doesn't have any record of this being a common problem or excessive complaints about these ranges. But I see many people on this site with the same problem. I purchased a new home and then purchased 4 appliances, all Whirlpool Gold. In less than a year, the stove's electronic ignition and the microwave hood keypad went out. Since they were under warranty, a repairman replaced a bunch of parts and now they are working fine. One month after the refrigerator was out of warranty, the water line to the ice cube maker split about an inch and a half and water would spew out onto the hardwood floor under the unit. We were on vacation for all that month and didn't see any damage until one day there was a puddle in front of the refrigerator. When we pulled it out, we saw that the floor was ruined under the unit, the cabinet next to it black with mold and of course, the line had to be replaced.
Whirlpool wasn't interested in the fact that the refrigerator had probably still been under warranty when the split occurred, only that we hadn't reported it before the warranty expired. Next to go was the water seal that goes on the inside of the door of the dishwasher. I was running it about a month after the refrigerator debacle and water came spewing out of the side. The seal had come out and nothing was stopping the water from exiting out the side of the door. That's 4 for 4 in less than 15 months. I will never buy a Whirlpool product. I called Whirlpool and they pretty much told me they'll get to me when they can but it was the holiday. So I understood that it would be a few days. I had a technician come out to my house on December 27 and tell me that he needed to order a fuse. He called all over the state to find one but no one had one so he put it as an emergency. The technician did everything he could to accommodate me but could only do so much. So I waited and waited but heard nothing.
Today, January 3, I called the department to see when my part was going to be here and they tell me January 10 - unacceptable. I called the management team and spoke with Tiffany who pretty much just told me, "Sorry. You have to wait five business days to find out if the part is available. If not, then we can discuss sending new ovens." Why would we have to wait five business days from January 3 when it was ordered on December 27? Look, I'm a very reasonable woman and this is the first time I have ever complained online about a company. But I have gone 10 days without an oven and I have a family that I cook for daily.
My ovens are four months old so this should not be happening. And when it does, there should be parts to fix it or a replacement on hand because no family should have to go without an oven when they just paid a ** load of money for it. Customer Service should be a little more sympathetic and a little less about business because at the end of the day, they're not the ones suffering, we are. Also if this part is on back order, that tells me that this probably happens often. Maybe Whirlpool should recall this oven model because whoever heard of an oven overheating? Get it together. A couple of years ago I replaced my Whirlpool gas range because after seven years, the house was growing a gas smell that was becoming stronger. I called the gas company and they determined that it was the oven and not their problem. I called an appliance person who could not find the leak but charged me for the service call. Before I had him leave though, I called the gas company back and had the two talk. There was a conflict with their assessments. The service guy left frustrated. The gas company guy came back and again checked and told me that the oven is definitely leaking. He told me they use instruments, not soap, to determine leaks. With this, I was mad at the appliance company.
After voicing my frustration, they were going to allow me to purchase a similar new Whirlpool freestanding gas range at a discount and deliver it for free. I relented and spent close to $600 for the new range. After installation, I realized that the quality was cheaper than my old one. The metal rods in the oven racks are thinner and less of them so they are further apart. The cooktop grates are already wearing and chipping. But the thing that has irked me the most is the burners. You can't adjust them to low for a long simmer because the flame goes out, not immediately, but when you're not around to watch it; and the whole house smells of gas fumes! I called the appliance store and they said that because I didn't buy an extended warranty and that a year has already passed, I would have to pay for the service charge.
I called Whirlpool and they said that they have not encountered this problem with their stoves yet. Even while on the phone, I could turn every burner on separately and the flame would go out in a circular motion as I turned the knob to low. The people are very curt and offered no help at all so calling them is extremely useless. This range is definitely a lemon. Too bad, there aren't avenues to make them replace it. I am angry, disappointed, and disgusted. Are you listening, Whirlpool? Never again. May your company go down the drain.

Buyers beware of Whirlpool ovens! We bought a Whirlpool Built-In Electric Oven in August 2008. Fifteen months later, I decided to clean the oven for the first time and when I turned it on the auto-clean, the entire control panel went dark. The technician said he has seen this problem several times in such ovens and was able to repair the oven. I called Whirlpool and they had not heard of this being a common problem.
Last week, the air blower wasn't functioning and had to be replaced. I called Whirlpool again and told them about this second incident in a 4 year old oven that is not used frequently. I told them their quality assurance people and/or engineers need to re-evaluate their products. My lesson learned is that I will never purchase another Whirlpool or Whirlpool related product.

Do not buy Whirlpool appliances! Save yourself the trouble. I have a Whirlpool free-standing gas range that I bought when I purchased my house in June 2008. Just the other day, the oven stopped working. When I went to turn the oven on, I can hear a clicking sound but the burners in the oven do not ignite. I called Whirlpool and they offered to send someone out to fix the problem. By the time someone comes out and charges me for parts, labor, etc, I will probably have paid half of what I paid for the range when it was new! I also had the same thing happen with a Frigidaire refrigerator last year! The bottom line is that brand name appliances are not built the way they used to be. I am actually looking at buying a Samsung or some other model and try my chances with them!

We purchased a Whirlpool AccuBake oven in 2005. I think we used the self-cleaning feature about 3 times. The reason I mention this is it may be a possible cause to the frightening experience we had on August 15, 2012. My wife was cooking on the stove top when suddenly we heard loud electrical explosions coming from the back of the oven. We soon saw long arcing bolts of sparks shooting out the back, and my wife was terrified and didn't know what to do. I told her and my son to stay away from it. I ran to the circuit breaker box and turned off the breaker. We then looked in the back of the oven and it was on fire. I ran around looking for a fire extinguisher but my son managed to put the fire out. We called Whirlpool up and explained what had happened. They immediately sent someone out to look at it.
I was very impressed at how fast they got someone out there. Whirlpool sent two technicians to look at the damage. After they were done inspecting, they told my wife that the problem is loose connections on Whirlpool's side and not the feed and it had a damaged control board and that this is the fault of Whirlpool. He was very polite to us and apologized for any inconvenience. After a week had passed, no one called us, so my wife called and talked to some woman representative at Whirlpool. She told my wife that the report she got said that the oven had loose connection on the feed side from where we bought the oven and we should deal with them. My wife couldn't believe her ears and said, "No, that's not what the technician told us," and the woman continued to talk and my wife said, "Wait, slow down." The woman replied, "Oh, am I going too fast for you? Well, I guess I have to talk slower then," in a sarcastic tone.
My wife then called the technician who wrote the report and explained what the representative had told her, and his reply was, "I can't believe she said that. I am not happy about this, that is not what I wrote in my report. Don't worry, I will personally take care of this." Again, the technician was civil and polite. After two days passed, my wife talked to the same woman again but this time she changed her story. She never apologized and said, "It looks like in this report that the connections were loose to the control board. Since the oven is 7 years old and accounting for depreciation, Whirlpool is offering to you a total of $59." My wife said, "Really, $59? How long is the life expectancy of these ovens?" She told her, "10 years." My wife said, "10 years? Well, ours only lasted 7 and you are giving us $59 after we were almost killed and my home could have burnt down to the ground?" She said, "That is our offer."
I called Whirlpool back and asked to talk with the safety supervisor and it was a woman again. Was it the same woman? It could have been the same woman my wife talked to, I was not sure. I asked her, "When is it appropriate to issue a recall on a product? Our oven was defective at purchase." She said, "You are the only complaint we had on this oven, so no recall is necessary." "Yes," I said, "but since it has been proven this is the fault of Whirlpool, I would expect at least a working oven from Whirlpool." I also told her the technician told my wife that "Whirlpool should be bending over backwards for you," and she said, "I apologize for the technician's remarks." I told her that I was dissatisfied and she will be hearing from me in the future. I did some looking on the internet and I found that KitchenAid which is made from Whirlpool had issues with a particular oven which was found that when the self-cleaning feature was used, it would heat up the control board, and since most people don't use the self-cleaning feature that often, it would take a very long time to develop. I thought that loose connections and heat are a bad recipe for disaster, and that quality control negligence and inferior components are to blame.
Considering the past history and track record of class action lawsuits and appliance malfunctions such as the control board on their dishwashers, I believe it is all connected and related to my problem. Sorry but $59 isn't going to buy me a decent toaster oven, let alone a real oven. That oven should have lasted over 10 years and considering the possible damage and deaths that could have occurred, you would think that it would be in Whirlpool's best interest to address this problem and "bend over backwards" for anyone who had the misfortune of purchasing this mickey-moused nightmare of a disaster-waiting-to-happen problem. It's not so much the money. What if a small child touches an oven as it conducts 220 volts then shocks into a child's heart to ground? What a ticking time bomb this oven is. As far as I am concerned, I don't want a dangerous oven like this in my home and Whirlpool needs to take some lessons in public relations.

I bought a house and for the first time in my life, I was able to afford and buy all new Whirlpool appliances at Sears. I worked so hard all my life and was so happy I could get new appliances when I was almost 50 years old. Up until then, I could only afford to get used appliances. Even then I had to finance them with a credit card, only to be so sad and disappointed. They are without a doubt the ** junk I have ever had. I wish I could have all my old appliances back.
My new Whirlpool flat top oven burns everything and has ruined all my pots and pans. I do canning every year and it has ruined my very old and heavy pressure cookers. Even when you turn the heat all the way to low, it burns everything. I called the manufacturer and they say they do not have to disclose that it will ruin your pressure cookers or burn everything. I am very angry I bought any Whirlpool appliances. I also got a new washer and dryer; they are junk too. They don't clean my clothes like my old washer and everything is so wrinkled up when it comes out of the dryer. I need to iron everything. I have never seen anything like it.
I also bought a Whirlpool hot water tank that has now gone out 2 times in 5 years because the thermostat burns out. I pray it doesn't burn my house down one of these days. One of the times it went out, I was about 10 feet away from it and it literally blew up and about gave me a heart attack. It was so loud and scared the bejezzers out of me.
Whirlpool, you suck. I have told everyone I can tell how much junk your appliances are. Your company should have to be accountable for selling people such **! I would sure like to be paid not only for the cost of these junky appliances but also all my quality pressure cookers, ruined clothes and distress this has caused me. They have no consequences. They have gotten away with ripping people off and giving a lot of us tons of stress, stress, stress, and anxiety, not to mention all the financial cost. Thanks, Whirlpool, you piece of junk! I think if I had not worked so hard to finally get what I thought at the time were high quality new appliances, I wouldn't be so affected but I don't have the money now to get new quality appliances. Whirlpool took my hard earned money for their junk.

We bought a Whirlpool cook stove with a black top in 2009 and this year, in 2011, while cooking a pot of stew, the stove top burner began to make loud popping sounds. When I went to check it out, there was smoke coming out from under the pan and pieces of glass that had exploded out in small chunks. When calling the customer service line at Whirlpool, they told us that it was no longer under warranty and could not be of help. Their only explanation was that they would only cover a new stove top if it had cracked or broken this way when putting a cold pot on a hot burner. They said their technician could tell if this was why the shards of glass were exploded from the burner.

I have only cleaned the oven one time in five years. It is very clean. I picked this stove out and paid $900.00, because I liked the style and everything about it. Product would work fine whenever he came out. Finally, it acted up in May of this year while the product was still under warranty and while the service tech was here. The tech replaced the circuit board. One month later, I'm still having trouble replacing igniter. Four days ago, I'm still having trouble. This stove stinks. The service tech said the boards are a common problem. Two years later, when using the self-cleaning mode, the door was locked and the board was out again. So this must be the issue because that is the same problem that happened the first time. This must be a design flaw! The board cannot handle the heat generated in self-clean mode. Way to go Whirlpool, put the board near the oven door where it is subjected to extreme heat and melts!

We purchased our brand new home ten years ago and we were thrilled it had a double wall oven unit that I had always dreamed of owning. Well, the first time I used the self-cleaning mode that dream became a nightmare! The oven was in cleaning mode and I was so happy as I had never had a self-cleaner before! When the cleaning was done, the door remained locked and the control panel was not working. After making sure it was cooled the next day, I called for warranty repair. They came out and fixed it and apologized for the inconvenience. I was thinking it was just a glitch and went on with life.
Due to my husband’s business, we only live in the house part time as we do extensive traveling. My children are grown, so my cooking is mainly holidays and birthdays when we all get together. Since it is used so seldom, the need to clean is not as often as others might be. The next two times I cleaned it the same thing happened. The third time they came out they informed me that it was getting too hot in the cleaning mode and the steam was going into the computer panel and melting the electrical wire. They also said I would no longer be under warranty and from now on it would be my issue. The next two times I cleaned the oven, I did so the old fashioned way and skipped the self-cleaning.
This week my oven started beeping and giving me a code and will not work. I called my trusted repair man and this is what I learned. The computer board is probably toasted. They no longer make the board, so he will have to send it out to be rebuilt. This will take 10 to 14 days and the cost will be somewhere in the neighborhood of $650.00! Are you kidding me?! How is this my issue? I have checked faithfully every few months, assuming that others are having the same issues, and that Whirlpool would be doing the right thing and recalling these ovens. Stupid me! This last time I had not even used the oven in three days and it still went out? I am old enough to remember when the first place you went to look for appliances was Whirlpool because they were good, they lasted and the company stood behind them. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. From now on they will be the last place I look! I’m not sure what is going to happen, but I can assure you I am not spending $650 to repair this piece of crap!

Whirlpool’s customer service is one of the worst I have encountered. They consider a 6-7 year old $1500.00 range to be old! I said to her, “Wow, if the population was to throw their Whirlpool appliances into the landfills after 7 years, this would be quite a horrendous situation.” I think it's disgusting for a company to build appliances with a shelf life of 6-7 years and with only a 1-year warranty! What a horrible brand! I will never buy another Whirlpool brand product ever again. You spend $1500.00 on a range oven and then around 5 to 7 years the control board blows out and costs another $500.00 to replace plus a service agents fee to remove and install.
I asked the Whirlpool agent if I could get the control board discounted and she refused and said, “I am sorry, we are unable to help you.” Pathetic! Their cost on these boards is around $120.00 or so. I was told by an appliance service rep they could discount that $500.00 board even half and still make a decent profit. Do not ever buy Whirlpool. Go with other brands instead. Their customer service policies are horrible. Your hard-earned money will be buying an appliance with a 6 to 7-year shelf life before major repairs.

First, let me say we are so lucky and blessed to get home in time to prevent my home from burning. My Whirlpool range, model 4rf364pxk0, apparently decided to turn itself on (no one home) and grew hotter and hotter. It obviously burned out the thermostat because it was way hotter than cleaning mode. The key pad was melted and sagging inward the control panel warped, heat pouring from it. The racks and interior were glowing orange! My back splash tile blackened and cracked! The oven door locked! Oven hood ruined although it probably saved my cabinets! We hit the breaker! There was so much heat you could feel it on the outside of the exterior wall of the house 30 minutes later!
The clean up to my kitchen has been horrible. Black soot and strange greasy film on everything and the stench has been toxic enough to give my husband a raw throat and myself a migraine! Oh and here is the ironic part - my husband was bringing me home from a hospital stay from high blood pressure! It would be almost comic if it wasn't so darn scary! We purchased our home in 5/09. Within a month, we had to replace the defective gas valve due to inefficient burning. Our house smelled like gas each time we used the oven. It was under warranty at that time so Whirlpool replaced it. It is now 5/12 and out of warranty. We called a local independent technician who informed us the oven wouldn't turn on due to another issue with the gas valve, the same one that had been replaced shortly after we moved in. He went to his local supplier to purchase the gas valve to be informed that they couldn't seem to keep this particular gas valve in stock, simply because it's a reoccurring known issue and Whirlpool needed to do something about it.
So, this technician encouraged me to call Whirlpool. I called the 1-800 number, spoke to 3 different people and was constantly informed that since it was out of warranty they would do absolutely nothing! Again, I was informed that this gas valve is a reoccurring known problem with Whirlpool so perhaps they should consider looking into this issue. The last person I spoke to was a bit snide and just kept saying "It is past your warranty, we will do absolutely nothing to help you, and sorry you are having that problem. We are not aware of this reoccurring gas valve issue. Have a good day!”
Whirlpool, do you understand your reputation is at risk when you don't want to stand behind your parts that should work after 3 years! Should a brand new part not work properly after a month? Should another service call have to be made after 3 years? Sounds like a quality issue, something Whirlpool needs to investigate especially after a local supplier states they sell this particular gas valve all the time due to a reoccurring issue.

I recently just purchased a new home with an upgrade provided by the builder (which I paid), kitchen appliances to Whirlpool Gold package. 2 weeks from the time the house closed escrow, I used my Whirlpool Gold Accu Bake wall oven self-clean feature. I set it for 2 1/2 hours, which is not even a full cycle of 4 hours. I noticed after 2 hours that the oven shut down. The oven exhaust was hot and the panel control as well, (almost burned my hand). No power and door locked. After a week of waiting to cool down hoping it will unlock and turn back on, it didn't. I called the builder and Whirlpool. Of course, the builder said to call Whirlpool. They registered my oven and set an appointment.
The contractor (A&E) came to take a look at my oven and assumed that it was just thermal fuse. He was explaining that the oven does heat up and shut down. Probably after this repair, this will happen again. He replaced the thermal fuse and tried to turn on the oven. The house electric breaker is working, but the oven still did not turn on. So this time, he checked the control board and said that it is dead and will have to order. I am tired of having an oven for 2 weeks only and already have this issue. I did find out as well online that Whirlpool do have several complaints regarding their self-cleaning oven.
I want to either just replace the whole oven or give me cash so I can replace the Whirlpool and buy another brand. I don't see the point of having a self-cleaning oven if this will heat up and shut down the unit or get a suggestion not to use the self-cleaning feature anymore so it won't break. I think this is a design issue and Whirlpool is not taking the responsibility to fix the design to start.

Although we live in Canada, we purchased our slide-in oven at Sears Roebuck in Buffalo, NY only because of the size availability only in the US (actually, the unit was manufactured in Canada as we found out later!). Obviously, this created another problem since the unit was not underwritten by Canadian Electric codes, Sears Canada repair would not touch it! Once installed, it worked great until the first problem with the oven quitting after self-cleaning. It is the second time in 3 years that both the thermostat and the sensor went in this RBS245 slide-in oven. Once the self-clean cycle completes (quite smelly!) and cools, the oven does not operate rendering the oven useless.
First time, in 2009, Sears repair only suggested (since they would not do repair on it for reasons stated above) which parts could be faulty: Timer, sensor, thermostat or elements. It was thought to be the electronic timer unit, which was replaced at a $215 (needlessly) because that was OK. Both thermostat and sensor cost $150. Even the elements were replaced, $52. The second time, just a week ago, exactly the same happened. I replaced the 2 items: Sensor and thermostat at a cost of $154 and the oven worked fine again. I called both Whirlpool US and Canada, but no one could/would give any answers why this happens.
So far, it cost $600 in parts to repair! This is nonsense from a company that has had good reputation and record. Obviously, that is changing! The outside of the door gets brown also when using the self-cleaning oven. We thought we would have this range for a long time as we had a Whirlpool range before which lasted 20 years. I will never buy a Whirlpool product again and we have had a lot of them.
e can't afford to buy a new one so we are stuck with this one with all its problems. Whirlpool just gives you the runaround when you call. When they brought the range, the self-cleaning oven part wasn't even hooked up so they had to come back and fix it. I can't believe they don't have more recalls on these. I have only had this for 4 years.

Not only is it a fire hazard, my walls are hot to the touch. It is frustrating. There is no override of the clean mode. We bought a new Whirlpool gold gas stove. We had just finished redoing our complete kitchen, and thought it would be nice to replace appliances. I thought Whirlpool had a reputable name and good service record, but clearly, I should have checked. Three months after installing the stove, the handle pulled right off the door. We called the service tech who came in, took the door apart, and replaced the handle, but for some reason, installed different and incorrect screws for the door. Over the next 7 or 8 months, the handle pulled off twice more, and we repeated the cycle.
At this point in time, we had been experiencing a situation where the stove would shut itself off. Bear in mind, it is less than 18 months old. Even now, the oven heats, and mid way through cooking anything, it decides to shut itself off. Clearly, there are issues with Whirlpool products, and when I called them, they want to do nothing about it. They jockey me around, from one service person to the next, frustrating me as I have to retell the issues to each new individual, and then they only tell me a replaced board, which would cost more than $600, is the way to go. I've had this stove for 2 years, and it is seriously the biggest piece of garbage anyone ever put out on the market.
Apparently there are no recalls on it, and so apparently, Whirlpool is more interested in ripping off their customers, than standing behind their product. I am currently seeking permission in a local paper to write a public service piece. I hope people will read it, and avoid this company at all costs. I hope whirlpool enjoys it. I don't know how they have turned a blind eye to all these complaints. As far as what I have read, with regards to other whirlpool problems, exploding glass, dangerous fumes, etc. They should be investigated, because what they are pulling off is criminal. If I want someone to steal from me, I'll leave my doors open, and let them come take me for what I have. I don't need to support a company that is stealing from me, while they wear smile on their face.

The Whirlpool authorized service agent said it needed a control board which would cost $650 to install. The repair company found one for less--only $300. After reading all of the other complaints about these ranges, we've decided not to repair it and will probably have to replace it soon. Whirlpool dispatched a technician and said nothing was wrong. Dec 2007 during a dinner party the oven again went out of control, raised the temperature on it's own and burned the dinner. I purchased our brand new double ovens on 9/27/11. I was happy until 11/3/11 when the inside glass exploded, shooting shards of it all over our kitchen during the self-cleaning cycle. I immediately called Kitchen Aide's corporate office in Michigan. She said that she could send a technician out to access the damages but didn't see that this was a product issue. Like I don't know how to properly push buttons to self clean!
The technician came out the next day and said that he was only authorized to replace the glass, nothing else. He couldn't tell me why it shattered, he thought perhaps there was a bubble in the glass during manufacturing. I said I think it needs a whole new door at the very least, but more likely a new unit. I just paid $3000 for what will be a refurbished oven after one month of use.
Today, I called once again to tell them that I am not satisfied with new glass, not to mention my oven is unusable in its current state and still has glass sipping out. I spoke to a woman in their "safety committee" department, who told me that Whirlpool's warranty is replacement of broken parts, nothing more, and since only one pane of glass broke and not the door physically, they couldn't authorize a new door or new oven. Mind you, that we still don't know why it broke, was it just faulty glass or could it be a heating problem? She didn't care, only that they could only repair the glass. I asked if the glass could be overnighted since I have been without an oven for four days now. She said that she had no way of doing that, so I asked if I could speak to the parts department and she said I could not, that only techs could contact them. I asked if she could do anything for me? Could she assure me that it would be fixed within the week? No. Could she assure me that it would be fixed by Thanksgiving? No.
Whirlpool's policy clearly is that once you purchase their products, they have no intentions of listening to their customer's complaints or concerns only to do the very minimum required.

Fortunately, Whirlpool agreed to repair the appliances at no charge because it was so close to the end of the warranty. I told her how dissatisfied I was that the stove is only 2 years old and the most important part (the buttons) stopped working and they only cover this for one year. I purchased a gas range with JDR8895 last 09/06/2007 at Home Depot in Metro Denver for approximately $1700.00. I will make my final payment on my Home Depot account next month. I was preparing dinner last September 10, 2011. I had the pans on the cooktop, one on the right rear and one on the left front burners. This was the set up because the right front burner has stopped working some time ago. Both burners were on a low setting as I was simmering pasta sauce and just warming water as I was later going to boil it for the noodles. I was in my living room when I started to smell something odd. When I approached my kitchen, there was a fire coming from the rear of the cooktop and beneath the three burner knobs. It smelled like an electrical fire. I immediately turned off the burners with my hand wrapped in a towel and started putting out the fire by hitting it with the towel and blowing. The towel caught on fire. I grabbed my fire extinguisher and was ready to spray when finally, it looked like it burned out.
The smell in my home is terrible, when I tried to test the lower burner it looked like it was catching on fire underneath the knob as well, so i immediately turned it off and batted it with a towel. I'm not sure what happened here. I will make my final payment on this range next month and had the previous range in here since 1977 and that still worked fine. I spent a small fortune on this Jenn-Air, only to have it catch on fire that could have potentially burned my house down.
On various web sites including consumer affairs, JDR8895 has many reports of fires. If this is a known problem, why has it not been addressed as a recall? My 9-year old was making soup the day before while I was in the living room. This could of easily happened to her! It is a very dangerous situation to put your consumers in!
Whirlpool Corporation contacted the appliance repair company, Columbine Appliances, to inform them that they would only be covering the cost of their visit and not the cost of the parts to be replaced in the range (the ones that caught on fire). Through Columbine Appliance, Whirlpool wanted to inform me that "this is not a safety hazard and that it was my fault as I got water in the control knobs". This is not true. If I did, I was not aware and was unable to find any literature about that being a safety hazard or that it could cause a fire.
I have found and have forwarded to the CPSC many instances of this exact problem, often when the range was not even in use and are happening to other consumers. I am working on combining the data, contacting the other consumers and have since refused service on the range by Columbine Appliances. Whirlpool only tried to contact me after I left them a message regarding the status of the range and that I had no interest in paying for what I viewed as a defect in their range and a "safety hazard". I found a news story of this range going up in flames.
It's unbelievable that this company continues to stand behind this product and blame these fires on the consumers' actions. I am disabled and have an oxygen machine in my home. I have no desire to have this unit catch on fire again and potentially die, especially since water does, on occasion, end up on cooktops. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

We purchased our Whirlpool ceramic top convection range about six years ago. I love it and it has been great but yesterday, my husband was watching TV and he noticed a sound coming from the stove that sounded like bacon frying.
We had not used the oven or the stove for the past three days and the controls were all in the off position but we noticed a burn mark appeared at the top of the oven door and began to spread. I opened the door and looked at the underside of the top edge of the stove and noticed it was glowing as if a fire was inside. We quickly moved it out and unplugged it. The burn mark is about the size of a dime and right down to the metal.

I purchased a Whirlpool wall oven Model RBS275PVQ in August '09 for a summer home that is used only for 4-5 months of the year. After one cleaning of the oven, the thermostat blew and the oven would not heat. The recommended service company from Whirlpool was A&E. The serviceman informed me that the thermostat is a continual problem in burning out if the temperature gets too high. He showed me that the replacement thermostat was different from the one that came with the oven as they now have replaced them due to the problem. Whirlpool customer relations told me the oven is out of warranty and the bill for $195 to fix the unit is my expense. The Whirlpool built-in single oven model RBS305PDSB12 is a fire hazard! I was baking a pizza, at 425 degrees, for my grandkids and went to check its status with four minutes remaining. I realized the door was locked and the upper element was on, like it had gone into a self clean mode. The cancel control would not work. I had to turn circuit breaker off to prevent a fire. Pizza burned and smoke filled the house. I sent kids and dogs outside till danger passed. I stood with fire extinguisher for sometime.
I have baked pizzas before in this oven. The next day, I turned circuit breaker on and the top element started heating up again. It sounds like the control panel needs to be replaced but that is not a safe option. I have not contacted Whirlpool as per listed comments (they sound unresponsive) and the warranty period has expired.
I will replace my oven due to safety concerns, but not purchase a Whirlpool product. I would like to buy American but need a safe product. All my other kitchen appliances are Whirlpool. Total fear gripped me. I live in the country and we are in a drought. I was fearful that the house, forest, and distant neighbors' homes would burn before a potential fire could be controlled. I purchased a Whirlpool double electric built oven about 7-8 years ago - infrequently used - electronic control panel stopped working. The Whirlpool repairman stated that (a) parts are no longer manufactured, (b) rebuilt electronic control panel will not carry warranty, and (c) cost to repair is $583.00 in addition to the $85.00 service call charge already paid. The code problem (F2-E6) reported as the error code apparently is a common malfunction, suggesting manufacturing defect. I suspect the part is not being manufactured at this time to force people to buy a new appliance rather than have Whirlpool accept responsibility for defective electronics to begin with and replace them under the extended warranty program. Internet documents many complaints about this specific code, which indicates that the electronic control panel is broken. Our oven has less than 200 hours of use on it in 7 years and should not have suffered an electronics failure.

I own a Whirlpool model RF263LXTS Bisque Electric Range. I find that it is hazardous to use the stove top because there are no indicator lights on each individual burner knob to show which burner is on. As a result, I have experienced some accidents that could have been prevented if there were lights to show which burner was on.
First, a dish shattered when it was placed on a front burner that was unknowingly turned on. The cook thought she had turned on the back burner, but there was no light to indicate that. Small pieces of glass from the dish flew several feet when placed on the front burner that was hot. The second incident was similar, but the hot shattered glass burned and shards of glass were embedded in the carpet. The entire kitchen carpet had to be replaced. It was fortunate that no one was standing near it at the time, as this may have caused severe physical harm. The third incident was caused when a front burner was unknowingly turned on when it should have been the back burner. Again, glass from the platter shattered and flew onto the new carpet, leaving burn marks.
We would like to see a recall for this product because of the potential safety hazards that exist.

I purchased several Whirlpool appliances (dishwasher, electric cooktop and electric oven) as part of a kitchen remodel two years ago. The dishwasher and cooktop have given us no problems to date, but the oven... where to begin. One week after it was installed, the time that had been set started flashing and we (my wife and I) couldn't get it to reset using the controls on the front panel. Several calls to the company and two weeks later, a representative of A&E Factory service was at our door to perform warranty covered service. Turns out the enter button was broken and needed to be replaced. A&E ordered it and a week later it was replaced. Total downtime 3 weeks. Needless to say, our three young children were none too happy with our limited dinner offering courtesy of the down oven.
11 months after installing the oven (and one month after our warranty had expired), we realized we needed to clean our oven. So we decided to use the self-cleaning feature and see what our now relatively new oven could do. Two hours into the process, the display screen goes blank, cleaning has stopped, and upon inspection I can't even touch the front panel as burns would surely have occurred. The next morning I called Whirlpool and complained that the oven has eaten itself the first time the cleaning cycle has ever been used and begged for some assistance with the costs that are surely about to rack up based upon the expired warranty. They pointed me to A&E again.
One week later, A&E is on the scene. After inspection the technician concludes that the plastic casing around the control buttons has melted causing the machine to shut itself down. Post inspection the technician postulates that the product is poorly designed and I should expect failures in the future if additional plastic parts are supplied. Cost of A&E coming out to deliver this good news $90. The parts that needed to be replaced $175. Mind you, the oven was $400 new. A&E orders the part and will be back in 10 days to install. Frustrated, I called Whirlpool back and described what has happened. They graciously agreed to cover the costs of the parts and provided me with a 6-month service agreement so that I can make sure the oven properly functions once the new parts are installed.
At this time, I expressed my concerns based upon the information that the technician shared about the design and the fact that the plastic button casings are not capable of withstanding the temperatures that an oven on self-clean produces. Again the Whirlpool representative stepped up and assured me that should the parts fail again, they would replace the entire oven. Yeah!!! This is the exact answer I want to hear. So now all I have to do is keep my kids fed until the new parts are installed. Two and 1/2 weeks after the oven goes down, it is back up again. At this point my first inclination is to fire that bad boy back up and see if failure is as assured as the A&E technician believes it to be. However, I have a six month service agreement and why rush things. Plus we are just getting into summer and why would I want to heat my house just to pay to have the air conditioner cool it. And so, I wait.
Fast forward to Sept. 25th, 2010. I am concerned that I have waited too long for the colder weather and the test of the self-cleaning feature. I called Whirlpool Saturday morning and they confirmed that the contract is still good for another five weeks. At this point I asked to confirm that the offer to replace the oven is still valid and the company rep stated that she won't comment, and we should run the cycle and see what happens first. This is not encouraging. Anyway, the kids are gone for the day... it's cool outside... This seems like the perfect opportunity.
I wiped out the oven and returned it to an almost new appearance, then set the controls for self-clean. Three hours later the house smells horrendous, but it seems to be holding up. Fifteen minutes after that I looked back and the control screen has gone blank again. Damn! I went to check the control panel and almost gave myself third degree burns. I was curious as to how hot it has reached and put a meat thermometer, and it raced past the 200 degree mark. I called Whirlpool and got another rep and explained what has happened. Again I inquired about the promised replacement. The rep told me she can't discuss that until A&E ascertains what has occurred.
I scheduled their visit for Tuesday, September 28, 2010. Luckily, the same technician from A&E showed up and he and I reminisced about his last visit. He asked me the particulars about how this failure came about and I provided them. He then proceeded to quickly identify that the casings have again melted causing the shutdown. During this work, he told me of two other similar models in the area that have experienced this same failure. Again, asserting that the design is bad and that the casing should never have been plastic (plastic melts too easy, he says). He ordered the replacement part, now free of charge courtesy of the Service Contract provided by Whirlpool, and scheduled another appointment a week from now to install it. I told him that I hope that we are installing a new oven and not replacement parts. He wished me good luck and told me he'll see me in a week. A week will actually be 10 days since the oven quit. The kids are not going to be happy!
Now the moment of dread... I called Whirlpool to discuss what has happened. As I had feared, the rep that I was connected with indicated that her system showed no record of any offer to replace the oven should it have failed again for the exact same reason. She also added that it is their policy that items that exhibit a pattern of continued failure are not eligible until they fail three times, and I clearly don't qualify as this is only my second failure. I then asked to be connected to the rep that had helped me approximately five months previously. She indicated that that can not be done. I then inquired as to whether or not their system requires that the notes that are left regarding each customer interaction be assigned to a particular customer service individual, and she indicates yes, but that I will not be allowed to talk with that person. I then requested to talk with a supervisor. She was happy to get rid of me and transferred the call.
The supervisor Dave, company ID ** (or so he said), then proceeded to listen to my oral history of the above. After I was through, he confirmed that they will not be replacing my oven. I asked him why the rep five months ago would have told me specifically that this would be the plan should another failure occur. He said he can't speculate as to why that rep made such an offer. I asked whether or not he intended to talk with her and find out why she would have done such a thing. His response... "I will look into it." I then asked what he plans on doing should A&E fix it next week and it fails again. His response... "We will deal with it should we have to at that time." But he went further, "but I will tell you that we would not be replacing it then either."
He was getting very annoyed with me and you can tell it in the tone of his voice and his eagerness to cut me off when I attempted to question the inconsistencies in the statements made by other Whirlpool reps. I probed on and asked what is Whirlpool's policy on replacing items that exhibit a consistent pattern of failure. His answer... "That is confidential company information and will not be shared." Nice job Mr. Customer Service professional. So now I am left to wait my ten days. My kids are going to be mad. I am mad, but I am clear on one thing... Whirlpool no longer cares!

I was visiting my parents and cooking dinner when the oven's self-clean function activated and the door locked. We didn't realize it until we started smelling smoke and then discovered that we couldn't turn it off, even after following all the steps listed in the owner's manual. Our only option was to shut off the circuit breaker. The heat was so intense that we had to clear out the cupboards above the oven for fear the items there would burn, melt or explode. The next morning, we turned the circuit on again and found that the display worked but the oven never heated up. Whirlpool's customer service rep said, "I'm tired of the thousands of calls I get from people who use the self-clean function and afterwards their oven doesn't work. If you buy an oven, you should expect it to work."
She passed me along to a safety supervisor who arranged for a free service call from a (not-so) local company. He diagnosed a bad fan, thermostat and front panel display for a total of $565 in parts or $950 for a replacement oven. I called the safety supervisor back and told him that Whirlpool's own rep had commented on how many calls she had for this exact issue as well as the great number of complaints on the web. His response, "Don't believe everything you see on the internet." He also indicated that they had no intention of doing anything more for us. In early March 2010 (less than 4 1/2 years old), I had problems with an error code of E6- F2. I found a website called Appliancepartspros.com and the volunteer experts helped diagnose the problem. However, it started working again. Then in May 2010 it did the same thing, only this time the display did NOT flash an error code but went blank. After flipping the circuit breaker and waiting 2 days, it came on with a code of PF (power failure), which reset when I hit the oven button. I knew it would be a matter of time and I would lose it completely.
As of today, August 10, 2010, my oven shut down completely. It has a blank display screen and the buttons beep when I touch them, but nothing is working to get it started again, so I guess it is time to replace the part. My dilemma is that I have it narrowed down to either the control panel or the control board. The price of the parts are $168 and $177 plus tax. I was going to buy both and replace the one that fixes the problem. HOWEVER, the business stated that because the parts are electronic, they can NOT be returned. I am doing much research on this issue in an attempt to help me narrow down the part because I do NOT have the funds to buy both parts.

I cannot place a 10" or 12" iron skillet on the burners evenly. I have to physically hold on to the handle of any pot, pan or skillet when stirring to prevent the vessel from flying off the range altogether. This is a dangerous situation. I am not happy at all with this product. I have waited a long time to be able to purchase a new range and this is very disappointing. Do you have any alternative eyes to offer for this range? Cast iron, plain black, would be preferable to these. Please contact me as soon as possible regarding this matter.

We bought a Whirlpool slide in electric 30 inch range with the smooth glass top. We bought it on sale five years ago.Recently, while chicken was in the oven on bake, I could not open the oven door. No matter what I did, the door would not open. It was a weekend and I found a site online where I could e-mail a question to a tech. His answer was to cancel the bake cycle, put the oven on the clean cycle, let it run a few minutes and cancel it and the door would open. When I got the door open, the chick was practically burned to a crisp. This has happened four other times. The last time was the broiler. It seems that the oven or broiler goes into the clean mode on its own. I feel this is a fire hazard. I am going to replace the stove but feel Whirlpool should look into the matter and possibly compensate me some towards a new stove. Thank you for your assistance.

We purchased this home 6 months ago. The previous owners had renewed the kitchen approximately 3 years earlier. All Whirlpool (refrigerator, built-in oven and dishwasher). The built-in oven self-cleaning had to be repaired because of the way the oven operates and overheats (they say it isn't a design flaw), but I beg to differ because it has been "fixed" but we can no longer use the self-clean portion. I called and complained and ultimately was repaid by Whirlpool for the cost of the repair.
Today, I went to use my dishwasher and "nothing". So I called my repairman and he said it was in the panel. I again called Whirlpool Customer Service and because I am out of warranty by 1.5 years, they will not replace the part. First of all, this dishwasher is only 2.5 years old. It should not be requiring replacement at this point anyway. The rep told me that had it only been 1 year out of warranty, they might have been able to help me. I am so disappointed with Whirlpool. I would not recommend nor purchase their product in the future.

I bought my mom a glass top range from Whirlpool through Lowe's. She was cooking and set a cover on the other side of the stove and the glass top exploded (luckily underneath the cover) in perfect half circle shaped just like the cover shattering the top. It is about one and a half years old so it is not under warranty.
When talking to Whirlpool service (since the service call people wanted us to pay them $100 just for the information on whether it was covered under warranty and/or what the replacement actions were) they told me that placing a hot item on a cold glass service equates to user operation failure, as you can't place a hot object on a cold glass surface. This is a glass top range designed for that specific use isn't it. I read through the user manual and there is no warning against putting a hot device on any other part of the stove top, none at all.
I bought my mom something. I don't expect her life to be in danger for using it in what should be a common way.
Obviously, this is a very common issue and they are putting people's lives in danger in a way that should never happen. I hope there is a way to get back at these people somehow. I am not happy that my elderly mother could have been seriously injured for something like this. The cost of replacing the part is $370 for the part, plus shipping, handling, and labor. I would imagine this is as, if not more, expensive than the stove cost itself which is over $600.
I guess I will just have to get a new range altogether, without a glass top. This is unbelievable.

We just got a high-end Jenn-Air double oven (JJW2827WS). We were so excited about the options and its handsome looks. But we started cooking and while using the timer and bake options, we discovered a sequence of temperature changes and timer use, the E1 error comes up. You must turn off the power to reset this error. They replaced the keypad (ECC unit) which caused many new problems to occur (like locking the bottom oven permanently). The old panel went back in. Turns out this is problem is typical in this model (a bug in the software)!! Jenn-Air is made by Whirlpool (KitchenAid). The last KitchenAid oven was returned due to malfunctions! I was cooking with two burners on. I heard an electrical pop, with the stove circuit breaking off. My husband took the top off, to discover under the control panel, by the left burner, the manufacturer had taped the positive and negative wires together. The red and black wires were taped separately then taped together.
It looks as though over time, since they get hot, the taped melded together, causing the electrical short. I will bet all stoves of this model were taped together the same way. We do not use our stove on a regular basis, or it probably would have happened sooner. The stove is about 5 years old. We thought at first it was the left front burner, since that is where the sparks and smoke came out.
My husband took off the entire surface to discover what the wiring problem was. He is an electrician, so he was able to fix it. He also said that if I had been touching any metal on the stove, I may have been electrocuted, from the 240 amp. Other consumer may not be so lucky!

On April 10, 2010, I used my range to cook noodles. I used the power burner that is located on the front left side on the range. I turned off the noodles and moved the pan to the back burner. I then picked up my 18-month-old baby and reached up, accidentally touching the calf of his leg to the front of the stove between the control knobs. The front part of the stove was so hot that it gave my son second-degree burns on his calf. The burn goes from below the knee to the top of the ankle. He has been in terrible pain.
I have had the stove for a few months and did not know that the front of the stove get so hot. I understand the top being hot due to the fire, but the front of stove being hot was not brought to my attention until this incident. I think there should be a warning and the power burner should be located at the back of the stove. I am very concerned that this may happen to someone else.

We updated our kitchen, replaced all major kitchen appliances in November 2009. All are stainless steel Whirlpool. I chose Whirlpool because of our good experience with that brand in the past. The ones replaced were Whirlpool. NOW for the nightmare, Whirlpool range model #RF263LXTS, serial #RY4623966. The top cooking elements are coil type. The coil cooking elements are not the problem. When the oven is in use, the entire top surface gets so hot you cannot touch it for 2 SECONDS! This range has NO insulation, none, that would prevent this from happening.
I called Whirlpool, told Nacole, Babs, Sam and Jim all the same thing about my VERY hot surface range, all the time making notes as we spoke. They all said this was normal with this model! They were very rude and seemed to not care. You do not have to be a rocket scientist to know when something is dangerously too hot. What good is a Warranty when the Company will not honor it? I got no help from them but I have not given up yet. I can't believe a company like Whirlpool sells such poor, actually worse than that, quality products now.

I called them after service representative's visit number 6. I was told that I would receive a call in 24-48 hours to make arrangements... to puck-up the stove. I purchased a KitchenAid Gas Range from the Coop store in Fredericton in late 2006. The oven did not work properly from day 1. I phoned the Coop store and they told me to phone someone who only did commercial work. When I phoned the Coop back, they told me to call Whirlpool. When I called Whirlpool, it turned out that although they sell the ranges in Fredericton, they have no one to service them. They did not offer any alternative. Finally, after writing letters to their senior officials, they suggested I get somebody to come in and they would reimburse me. I did this and they partially fixed the problem.
I submitted the receipt but never heard back from Whirlpool. After years of the oven partially working (it did work reasonably well, just occasionally not starting), it gave up the ghost on Christmas Day 2009. I contacted Whirlpool again and they told me to phone one dealer who did not service Gas ranges, and another who did not service our area, finally admitting they had no one to service this area so go find someone myself. I did this and a technician came in and thought he knew what was wrong. He called Whirlpool to order the part but they wouldn't let him talk to their technical support as he wasn't an authorized dealer. He said I would have to order the part myself and told me to ask for a Solenoid Gas Valve. I did this and they sent out a part.
I called the technician again and he couldn't get back for a month. When he did come back, he told me they had sent the wrong part. I phoned again and this time, the parts guy brought up a parts schematic and I was able to identify the right part to him. They sent that out and he installed it and it seems to be working. They wouldn't let me send back the previous part because it was over 30 days. All told the oven has been out of service for 4 months since I bought it and I have spent in excess of 900 dollars on service and parts for something that should have been fixed on day 1. I don't feel they should be selling items in areas where they don't service them, and if they do, they should make the buyer aware that they don't offer service in the area.

The flattop burners run either hotter or they shut off as, the tech says, they are supposed to. How are you supposed to simmer anything if the burner is either hot or cool? There is no adjustment that can be made, I was told. I guess no one at Whirlpool uses the ranges to cook much or tests their products.
My stainless steel front has rust on it already. Luckily, that can be replaced and does not interfere with cooking. I replaced our older Whirlpool flattop range for this one because I wanted it stainless, but that one worked perfect. In December of 2009, I noticed a strong odor coming from my Whirlpool Gas Range when I used the oven. Sometimes the odor appeared to be stronger than others. I thought maybe the odor would go away, so I continued to use the range. On January 3, 2010, I started feeling as if I was coming down with the flu. I had shortness of breath, extreme fatigue, and chest pains. I remained home from work trying to recuperate thinking I had the flu. I didn't go out of the house, thinking that staying home, cooking my own food (baking), and resting would help me feel better. I did not feel better, I felt worse, but I did not have a cold or the flu.
On January 5, 2010, I went to the hospital ER with complaints of shortness of breath, chest pain and body aches. After numerous tests, the ER doctor felt that maybe I was developing some strain of the flu. Even though I literally begged for more tests, I was released with discharge paperwork indicating a possible 'cardiac' problem or possible 'blood clot' either in the lungs or near the heart. I was put on bed rest. I remained out of work until Jan. 11, 2010. I saw the Cardiologist, but no tests were conducted because my blood pressure had elevated to high levels. It was feared that I would have a stroke on the stress machine, so the cardiologist put me on high blood pressure meds and sent me home.
I returned home, only to go straight to work each day and come straight home. It took everything in me to make it to work each day. After taking the 5 days off from work without pay (Jan. 4-8), I couldn't afford to take more time off. I was completely exhausted each day, coming home to 'bake' dinner in my Whirlpool Oven. After seeing the cardiologist on Jan. 7th, on or about Jan. 10-11 I developed a dry, chronic cough, which occurred throughout the day and most of the night. I still had extreme fatigue and shortness of breath, and headache. However, I still did not have the flu or a cold.
It was around the Jan. 15, that I stopped cooking as I was too fatigued to do so because I stayed up most nights coughing so much. I thought that maybe the High Blood pressure medication (Lisinopril) was making me cough, so I went back to the Cardiologist on or about Jan. 26. The cardiologist changed my HB meds from Lisinopril to Benicar. However, I didn't take Benicar that night because I was instructed to start it the next day. On the night of Jan. 26th, I noticed my face starting to swell.
On Jan. 27th, my face was swollen even more and even though I was no longer taking Lisinopril, I was still coughing. Immediately after getting off work on Jan. 27th, I went to the walk-in clinic, Take Care Clinic at Walgreens. I was diagnosed with Upper Respiratory Infection and Allergic Rhinitis. I was placed on steroids, Prednisone and a prescription cough medicine.
On Sat. Jan. 30, I started feeling better and decided to cook myself dinner, in my Whirlpool Gas Oven. I immediately noticed the odor coming from the oven. I decided to try the oven once more on Monday, Feb. 1 to see if I smelled the odor. I did. So I called my Gas Company, Austell Natural Gas and asked for someone to come check the oven because I 'thought' I had a possible gas leak. When the technician checked the oven, the buzzer from his machine went off immediately. He told me (and left documentation stating) that there was not a gas leak but rather a high level of Carbon Monoxide coming from my oven when it was in use. He recommended that I not turn the oven back on and to call the manufacturer, Whirlpool for resolution. I did just that.
On Tuesday, Feb. 2, I contacted Whirpool. I was connected with Monica ** in the 'safety' department of Whirpool. I explained (in detail) what Austell Gas had detected with the Gas Range. I provided all information, model number, serial number, etc. Monica stated that they would have to send out a technician from a subcontractor company to 'check' the gas range and assess whether the range could be repaired. If it could not be repaired, Monica ** stated that it would be replaced. She stated that given the nature of the problem, I would not be charged for anything. I explained to the Whirpool Representative, Monica Alridge, that I had been back and forward to the ER, the Cardiologist, clinic etc. and that I had lost a lot of time off from work (without pay).
I asked her if there was a way for Whirlpool to simply replace the range, as it would give me peace of mind and as well could give Whirpool peace of mind knowing that the defective or faulty range had been replaced. She declined to offer me this. I was told that I would be contacted by the subcontractor, A&E Appliances to set up an appointment for them to come to my home to access the problem. Monica recommended that I contact my Primary Care Physician and ask to be tested for Carbon Monoxide Poisoning/Exposure. I did just that.
I contacted my Primary Care Physician and was tested for CO Poisoning at the hospital. I had a blood gas test with carboxyhemoglobin conducted on Feb. 4 and 5. The test results appeared to be within normal range. I am thankful that the tests came back normal. However, I wish I had this test done on Jan. 5, when I went to the ER. Had I known that I was exposed to Carbon Monoxide, I would have been able to tell the doctors and ER nurses, and they would have been able to give me the blood gas test with carboxyhemoglobin test then.
On Feb. 5, the technician from A & E factory services was sent out by Whirlpool. The technician tested my gas range and stated that he did find a carbon monoxide leak coming from the oven. He stated that he opened the vent to allow more air to pass through for more ventilation on the oven. He did not test the oven while it was preheating but rather after it had been on for quite some time. He told me that the oven was completely fixed and safe to use. I told the technician that I still smelled the same strong odor coming from the oven. The technician stated that due to his 'allergies' he couldn't smell anything.Because I was still concerned, particularly because I could still smell the strong odor, I called back to Whirlpool and spoke again with Monica**.
I told her that I appreciated them sending someone out to repair the range, but could still smell the strong odor coming from the oven when I turned it on. I advised Ms. Monica ** that I noticed where Dave from A & E had billed Whirlpool for the work he conducted at a rate of $163.00. I asked her from a consumer safety perspective, and from better business practices, would it not have been more conducive to simply 'replace' the oven, rather than paying for costly repairs? I did not mean to offend her, but she immediately became defensive and rude with me.
I told her that because I could still smell the strong odor coming from the oven, I would need to follow up and have the oven checked once more to give me peace of mind. I advised her that I thought with all of the problems, doctor's visits, ER visits, days off from work (without pay), numerous calls to her office, it was an inconvenience to me as a customer to have to follow up once again to have the oven checked.
Monica ** was non-responsive and did not ever offer to simply replace the oven. I ended my call with Ms. **/Whirpool and immediately called Austell Gas Company and requested that they please come back out to recheck the oven. I explained that since I had first called them on Monday, Feb. 1, I had contacted Whirpool and they had sent out A & E Appliances to repair the carbon monoxide leak. The technician from Austell Gas Company checked my Whirlpool Oven and found that it still has extremely high levels of carbon monoxide. He recommended that I not use the oven, but if I insisted on using it, he recommended that the doors and the windows in my home be open. He stated that at such high levels, if anyone were to stand next to the oven, they would surely be affected. While he was testing the oven, he literally had to move away from the kitchen as he stated it was burning his nose.
He wrote up his findings and left paperwork indicating that during the preheating of the oven, that is when the CO levels are extremely high, so high it set off his alarm, which continued to alarm. At this point, I have an beautiful Whirlpool Gas Range, that I am literally afraid to use. Although my health issues appear to be much better than earlier in the month of January, I have not had any cardiac or heart related issues prior to all of this happening. I've never had a blood clot, I don't smoke, and have not been on high blood pressure medications.
I am thankful that I found the Carbon Monoxide leak. However, I feel that Whirlpool has taken minimal action to resolve this issue. I understand that 'repairing' products is the norm. However, when you are speaking of Carbon Monoxide leaks, which could ultimately cause death or severe injury or brain damage from long term effects, I do not feel that simply attempting to repair or fix a CO leak is feasible. Paying $163 for a repair that obviously did not fix the problem, is not conducive to me as a consumer, as my health and my life still remains at risk. Nor is a $163 repair that did not fix the problem, a good business move for Whirlpool.
I am very dissatisfied at how Whirlpool has handled this entire ordeal. I am disappointed in the way in which they treated me as a customer. All of my appliances are Whirlpool appliances and have been for years. This is a very poor way to treat customers, as my life is literally at stake here. I was treated as if I was just another number. I do not believe they understand or even care about the severity of the problem. My health, my life and well-being are at stake and Ms. Monica **/Whirlpool simply could care less. They attempted to quickly 'fix' a problem that has not been fixed.
They were willing to risk the possibility of wasting $163 on a repair (that didn't fix the problem), than simply replacing the faulty Gas Range/Oven to ensure my safety and well-being. I wish I had known that the oven was leaking Carbon Monoxide when I went to the Emergency Room on Jan. 5th and even when I went to the Walk-In Clinic and the Cardiologist. I am confident that Carbon Monoxide would have been detected in my system. I have never felt such disorientation, discomfort, fatigue, chest pain and shortness of breath before (in my entire life).
It scares me to think that I still have this defective range even in my home. I feel unsafe and I am concerned about how many other consumers out there may be going through the same thing, but are unaware to even mention or ask their doctors to be tested for Carbon Monoxide Poisoning. This is a very serious matter, that Whirlpool doesn't seem to care much about. Perhaps, had I died in my home, they may have taken this matter a little more seriously. I am very disappointed.

We wrote a letter this morning to the complaint department of Whirlpool describing the dilemma we are in concerning built-in electric ovens we bought from them for our new condo seven years ago:
Basically, aside from a few minor problems in seven years, in 2009, we began to experience major problems such as the malfunctioning of the control board. At first the trouble was sporadic: Periodically, the digital temp readout would not show themselves; I could neither choose the baking temp for cakes or puddings nor could I lower temps at the end of baking. Next, we could no activate the timer, so food was under or overcooked. And then came the biggest problem: we could neither turn the ovens on or off. This destroyed any planning time for cooking. For example, I would defrost meat or chicken only to find that the ovens were not working.
We lived this way approximately three months when we were finally and truly upset with the product because we could no longer plan or prepare for important holidays. We found a local Whirlpool dealer who sent a "repair" person. As seniors, who use all Whirlpool products in our kitchen, we were overwhelmed to learn that the control board would have to be replaced and not repaired for $300. And worse, we would need to wait three to four months for the replacement. A four-month turnaround is a very poor business operation, but we had no recourse. And finally today, this morning the repair person arrived with the $300 control board replacement, only to dismantle the face panel and find a ribbon cable (that supplies power and signal to the control board) dried and cracked! Guess what? This can't be fixed. We would have to replace it.
When we add insult to injury, we exceed our budget over $500. The insulting situation we are in now is whether to accept poor quality parts to repair our eight year old ovens or throw out the ovens and replace them with another brand. We were not aware that when parts break down, they cannot be repaired. They need to be "replaced" instead.

On January 5th of 2010, I smelled a gas leak coming from the stove and reported it to Midway. They told me they couldn't do anything about it until the following Wednesday (13th of Jan). On Sunday, the 11th, our stove caught fire while we were making breakfast for our kids. I then went to tell Midway about it and they said that they were going to send someone out to see it on Monday.
Then an inexperienced technician said it was caused by the grease on the stove. I never knew that grease could cause such an extreme heat that would burn the burners when the stove is fairly new. They refused to take care of it and said they had only been dealing with Whirlpool for about a year and that their products were bad anyways. Why would you sell a product that has problems that can burn your house down? Now, I called Whirlpool and they will take another week to get us a stove IF they say that it was caused by the gas leak.
